Harappa And Mexican Civilization Essay
Last night I dreamed that I went back in time, as I walked around I saw people farming wheat and
barley as well as growing dates and melons. In the city there were artist making art using copper,
bronze, ivory and wood. I learned that they were the first to make cotton cloth. Traders were trading
goods with the traders from Egypt and Mesopotamia. I asked a woman in a red dress if she could tell
me a little about her land. She told me that this society was called the Harappa and Mohrenjo Daro
society. I asked how organized her government was. She said that the government was very strong and
organized. The cities were well planned right down to the water and sewer system. The people were an
educated and religious people. They had developed their own system of writing that was done on clay
tablets, statues and other remains. Her society worshipped a mother goddess. They were polytheists;
they believed the buffalo and bull was sacred. They treated their animals special. I saw some graves
that were filled with offerings like food and weapons. She told me that they thought the dead might
need these in an afterlife. I thanked her and she was on her way.
In my dream, I made my way to another group of ancient settlers. They were nomads. They traveled
across the mountain range of northeastern Asia into the land of Harappa/Mohenjo Daro the land that I
had already been to. After conquering ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Analysis Of Dave Barry s Guys Vs.
A short essay Guys vs. Men written by Dave Barry, presents Dave s perception on the difference
between Guys and Men . Dave presents his essay in a comical way that generalizes the men vs. guys
and also gender biased generalization. Dave argues that men hold too much of responsibilities and
many expectations in which guys do not and they live happier life. One of the methods he uses to
support his argument is a comparison. Other method he uses is the description of how he views men
vs. guys and gives his perspective. And the last method he uses to further his argument is the use of
hyperbole, exaggeration through out the essay.
First method of development Dave uses to further his argument is a comparision and gender biased
generalization. His temptation to buy new and unnecessary things just because he is a guy can be
compared when he compares females urge to rearrange furniture with males urge of using newest and
latest technical equipments. Dave separates guys and women by giving their choice that is somewhat
statistically true, that women are more interested in decorating house oppose to buying latest version
of technical items. Dave s use of logos play significant role here to support his argument. Not only he
compares guys and women, but also guys with his auxiliary dog. (919). He compares that guys do not
follow rules even though they know they are not suppose to do things they do, just like his small
auxiliary backup dog. Dave is saying that his

Navigation and Pose Estimation Theory
Basic Theory In the previous chapter, we introduce about the indoor positioning system techniques
and the research directions. In this chapter we will describe the basic theory related with the
navigation and pose estimation systems for example, the coordinate system, the dead reckoning
method, the characteristic of Wi Fi radio signal propagation etc. For all of the basic ideas are very
important thing to understanding the configuration of our research as follow;
2.1 The Local Coordinate system The coordinate system was used to defined in local area
environment name is the Cartesian coordinate system refer to [55]. It can be referenced by placing the
origin to the local point consist with 3 reference axis, there are axis is directed to the vertical, axis is
pointed to the north and axis is directed to the east, see in figure 1. Figure 1 The Cartesian coordinate
system.
The plane is the horizontal plane and the vertical plane is defined perpendicular to the ellipsoid such a
coordinate system is also called a local horizontal coordinate system. From figure 1. can be described,
the projection point whose coordinates in global and local coordinate system are and respectively, one
has relation of as follow: (2.1)
Where the is the azimuth angle measure from the north clockwise, is the zenith distance that mean the
angle the vertical and the radian and r is the radian of the in the local system.

Upheaval and Renewal in Egypt and Syria
According to Cleveland, the concept of upheval and renewal can be considered a common feature for
the countries in the Middle East in the 1970s. After the formation of independent states, one can notice
a general tendence in Arab republics towards the consolidation of their power. This essay aims at
comparing and contrasting this process in Egypt and Syria starting from 1970, year in which both
countries saw the coming into power of new leaders, Anwar Sadat and Hafiz Al Asad, and a
subsequent change from the previous regime s policies. Given the shortage of space and the
complexity of the matter, the focus will be only on the most evident aspects of authoritarian power
consolidation under those two leaders without going too much into ... Show more content on

In Syria, Al Asad used the Ba th party for the same purpose. Under his direct control, it indoctrinates
the population into the cult of his personality and the principles of his regime. The Ba th was a critical
actor in the reproduction of the system s populist identity . Being in the party was the only way to
access higher education and to find a good job given the complex networ of Ba thist patronage that
starting from the president unrolled downwards covering all areas of society. There was no room for
opposition at all. This system lasted until the end of the Cold War, when in order to adapt to the
democratisation trend and avoid Western powers criticism, the regime introduced parliamentary
elections in 1990 involving for the first time a small number of private sectors representative from
outside the Ba th. But most of the seats were won by the party after an expected triumph. The
following year elections were called for the presidency and Al Asad started his fourth mandate with
99.8% of votes . This democratic changes were introduced fairly late compared to the Egypt s ones,
but they had the same cosmetic features.
Though they both were put in power by the military, Al Asad and Sadat, in order to consolidate their
power, walked opposite ways to their relationship with the army. The Syrian President relied mostly

Demographic Transition Stages
Global population; it s what has been mystifying and engaging our human geographers for centuries.
In fact, the various stages of the demographic transition have shown what the population is acting as
now, and how it will change in the future. Starting right here in the United States, we are having a very
successful time maintaining a small growth population. Our 1.83 child per woman ratio is slightly
below the zero growth 2.03, but our population continues to grow because of our governmental
decision to approve immigration into the country. Because of this vital decision, it allows our
population to continually grow. Now, back to the demographic transition stages. The United States is
currently in Stage 4 along with many other Developed European

The Myers Briggs Profile Is Bases
The Neo Freudian theorist on which on which the Myers Briggs profile is bases is Carl Gustav Jung.
Born in 1875 he was a Swiss psychiatrist and psychotherapist who founded analytical psychology, of
which Jung decided the central concept to be individualism. He thought that there were four basic
principal functions by which we see the world, sensation, intuition, feeling, and thinking. He claimed
that we use one of those senses is what we use most of the time. Each of the eight letters stand for
different things in the Myers Briggs profile. The letter E represents Extraversion. Which are basically
extraverts, people that are go getters in life, life working in large groups, have lots of friends, and are
easily excited by being around other people. The letter I stands for Introversion. Which are introverts,
people who are calm, reserved, take the time to reflect on ideas that explain the outside world. The
letter N represents Intuition. Intuitive type may be concerned with what is new and doing new and
different things. They see the big picture of things and are constantly brain storming ideas. They
would also rather gain understanding through insight than through hands on experiences. The Letter S
stand for sensing. People that are sensing are really concerned with what they can actually see in front
of them and approach situations with their eyes open to the facts. The letter F represents Feeling, they
are people that wear their hearts on their sleeves. They

Rhino Poaching Essay
Poaching of Rhinos: A Growing Transnational Crime Industry
In 2011, the West African black rhino was declared extinct by the IUCN (International Union for
Conservation and Nature). Now all five rhino species left are in the endangers list (Poaching: The
Statistics). The reason the rhino population has nearly been driven to extinction is due to poaching.
The rhinos are being hunted and killed for their horns, which is a valued ingredient used in traditional
Asian medicines (Poaching of Rhinos in the Spotlight). In this essay, I will explore why the rhinos are
being poached, the overall impact of poaching in the rhino population, and what the authorities are
doing to deal with this profitable transnational crime industry.
At the beginning of the twentieth century, the rhino ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One being that the horns along with elephant tusks are used to create handles of daggers. This
however mostly happened in the 70 s and 80 s in Yamen (Shivamber). Another reason is that due to its
high value, wealthy individuals now use it as a status symbol (PoachingStatistics). This is because
rhino horn is more expensive than most things out there. For example, one kilo of marijuana is rated at
about $5,060, one kilo of gold at about $42, 972, and a kilo of cocaine at about $48,885. However, the
value of a kilo of rhino horn is about $100,000. It is estimated that one rhino horn can produce about
$1 million dollars. This is the reason being why this is such a profitable businesses for many crime
organizations (Shivamber).
Since 2008, Poachers have killed more than 5,940 African rhinos. According to the IUCN and the
African Rhino Specialist Group (AfRSG), 1,338 rhinos were killed across Africa by in 2015, making
it a higher increase for the sixth year in a row (Poaching Statistics). The countries affected by this are
mainly Kenya, Mozambique, South Africa, Democratic Republic of Congo, and Zimbabwe

Tsar Nicholas II And The Russo-Japanese War
The two essays I have selected take different approaches concerning Tsar Nicholas II and his decision
making process. The two men take not only different approaches to the tsar but arrive at different
conclusions. Rotem Kowner s essay, Nicholas II and the Japanese body: Images and decision making
on the eve of the Russo Japanese War, examines Nicholas s attitude toward the Japanese and how it
affected his decision. Raymond Esthus s essay, Nicholas II and the Russo Japanese War, shows
Nicholas s commitment to autocracy and a stubborn resolve to defend Russia s honor. Ethmus
dismisses the idea of Nicholas being weak minded and easily led. It was the mismanagement of the
administration that caused Nicholas to misread the political realities the Russian nation was
encountering. The Russians were not aware of the threat they were to the Japanese, as the Russians
pushed for the completion of the Trans Siberian Railway. Russia s management of the situation was an
idea of avoiding a conflict Kowner sees the increasing strain on the relationship between Japan and
Russia as the tsar meddled with the work of the ministries in the capital. While Ethmus sees the
administration as mismanaging the situation, Kowner would agree with the tsar misreading the crisis
but not where the mismanagement came from. He places the blame directly on the tsar. Had the tsar
realized the full military potential of his enemy, Russia could have prepared better for war, and
strategic decisions, such

The Bolsheviks and the Tragedy of the October Revolution...
The Bolsheviks and the Tragedy of the October Revolution
The majority of the people are with us. The majority of the working and oppressed people all over the
world are with us. Ours is the cause of justice. Our victory is assured. 1
October was a classic coup d état, the capture of governmental power by a small minority, carried out
without mass engagement. 2
The October Revolution was perhaps the most momentous event of the twentieth century. It led to the
creation of the Soviet Union, the first avowedly Communist nation in history, which was to become a
global superpower, an inspiration to many, an object of the hatred of many more. Possibly more
important was the role the memory of the October Revolution played in the ... Show more content on

The October Revolution was interpreted quite differently by those hostile to the Communist leaders of
the Soviet Union. In their top down histories of the Russian Revolution the common people appeared
as the passive objects of the evil machinations of the Bolsheviks. 4 The Bolsheviks cynically adopted
populist and anarchist slogans in order to recruit the masses as foot soldiers in their own quest for
power. If any apparent support for the October Revolution was seen among the masses, it was the
product of ignorance, skilled propaganda and a supple improvisation by the Bolsheviks themselves,
who transformed their elite operation into a temporary mass organization 5 to seduce the Russian
masses. The socialist reality of October was imaginary, and the Revolution itself was an amateur
police operation masked with expert propaganda to give an appearance of proletarian legitimacy 6
Both of these interpretations are heavily politicized. The former s purpose was to establish the
legitimacy of the Soviet Union as the genuine embodiment of the will of the Russian Proletariat, the
authentic People s State. The latter was meant to strip the USSR of that legitimacy and expose the
oppressive and unpopular dictatorship that ruled the country with an iron fist. As is not uncommon in
such situations, both of these interpretations

The Effects Of Media On Young Girls Around The World
Everyday television, film, advertisement and music industries deliver contradicting messages to young
girls around the world, especially in well technology developed nations like US. They create mayhem
and confusion among adolescents, who are trying to find themselves, fit in and safely pass into
womanhood stage. At home and school girls are being taught how important it is to obtain education,
career, learn responsibilities as well as how to become great mothers and wives, take care of the house
and act like ladies. But as soon as they turn on TV, open a magazine or log into the Internet they are
being taken for a roller coaster ride, which may seem like a lot of fun at first, but going further it
becomes a struggle and pulls teens further and further away from their culture and values presented by
loved ones. They are being flooded with fake images of happiness achieved by purchasing a certain
product, ability to fit in by wearing fashionable clothes and leaving a moment without worrying about
the consequences that will follow reckless behavior. Media are guilty of supplying young minds with
garbage just to make a quick dollar and don t care about the future of next generations. In my essay I
would like to provide some examples how television, film, ads and music create whirlwinds of
emotional and cultural contradictions in young girls. To begin, worldwide phenomenon American Pie
tells a story of four teenage boys, who enter a pact to lose their virginity by prom night

Wegmans, The Middle Atlantic Grocery Chain
Introduction
Wegmans, the middle Atlantic grocery chain, has demonstrated a great deal of success in just less than
100 years of operating. In those 100 or so years, Wegmans has become one of the most respected and
successful grocers in that region, if not the country. The reason for this success is the commitment that
Wegmans has put in place. Wegmans follows an extremely detailed plan, that allows for them to have
a great grasp on what sort of inventory the stores need to keep on hand. Wegmans also is a leader in
the area of sustainability. As Wegmans continues growing their footprint, they will continue to
implement these processes and continue to be a leader in the grocery industry.
Process Management Since Wegmans Food Markets, Inc. was founded in 1916 as the Rochester Fruit
and Vegetable Company by John Wegman the company has grown to be one of the largest privately
owned companies in the United States (Ezzedan, Hyde, Laurin, 2006, p. 298). The highly ranked
company, based in Rochester, New York, has branched out into other major cities in the New York,
New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Virginia areas. Recognized by Fortune magazine as a best company to
work for, a single Wegmans superstore typically employs five hundred to six hundred employees
(Stevenson, 2015, p. 33). Wegmans success is built on continual business process management.
Wegmans uses this process to implement innovative efforts to provide the highest quality of meat
products. According to Stevenson

Excellence in Customer Service Organisations Often Fail...

Work Related Project
Question 1
Excellence in customer service is the objective of all organisations wishing to be successful. However,
there is often a gap between customer expectations and management perceptions of customer
expectations. Organisations often fail to get close to their customers and correctly read their
expectations.
Other reasons for customer service problems include: * not listening to or collecting information from
customers * poor, or no, focus on the actual design of processes to turn identified customer needs into
products and services * gaps between what the organisation intends to produce for its customers and
what its systems do actually produce * gaps between what the system is ... Show more content on

Segmentation is usually done to understand the needs of customers more elaborately or distinctly.
When asking customers for their input or feedback, they need to feel as if their opinions matter, they
are more likely to continue supporting the organisation if they feel their feedback has been taken
seriously and into consideration. Listening to the customer and acting timely on their feedback is
important for the organisation, failing to understand a customer s needs can result in widespread
negative comments about the organisation and the loss of customers and potential customers.
By not listening to customers and understanding what they need from a product or service will not
allow the organisation to maintain its effectiveness in the market place, producing poor quality
products or service and effecting overall profitability for the organisation.
Each organisation needs to develop and establish procedures, standards and guidelines for customer
service requirements and communicate these to all staff.
By establishing courses of action to accomplish specific goals, utilising information and data obtained
through feedback will assist in identifying and acting upon the customer s needs. These may be
established through strategic or action plans that identifies the customer s need, arranges for, and
obtains resources needed to accomplish the desired goals and objectives. By collecting information
and data, planning areas for improvement that will improve the final

In an article from the website, Science Daily, researchers have discovered more evidence to support
the theory of the Milky Way growing from the middle and spreading outwards over time. This
evidence came from the current Gaia ESO project that was created by the European Space Agency.
After reading this article, I realized just how important this information could be. I want to know how
the Milky Way was created, because then I will be able to find out more information about how my
home, Earth, was created as well. I also really enjoy the topic of astronomy, so when I was looking for

The thin bands are generally young with spiral arms, young stars, giant molecular clouds (University
of Cambridge, 2014). The thick band is older since it has stars with a lower metallicity. Given the
study done in Chile, there were several conclusions made. First, that the thin disk stars all had similar
metallicity even though there ages spanned over 8 billion years. Second, that stars older than 9 billion
years had a very low metallicity, and this was described as a steep decline (University of Cambridge,
2014). However, given these two conclusions, the study also found that there are stars that are young
with a low metallicity as well, meaning that the study is not completely cut and dry, so to speak. There
is no distinguishable evidence that would allow researchers to definitely conclude the existence of a
thin and thick disk or the creation of the Milky Way from the inside out.
The study produced generalities, and whether or not these generalities are the absolute truth, scientists
are hesitant to rely solely on the results from the Gaia Eso Survey. Granted, over the next few years,
researchers are eager to use the Gaia Eso survey to further their observations and study of the Milky
Way, and they are hopeful to come to a conclusion about how the Milky Way was created, rather than
just relying on theories of the Milky Way overcoming smaller galaxies. However, more importantly to
the scientists involved, the study could produce a definitive

What Is Self Reliance By Ralph Waldo Emerson
Ralph Waldo Emerson s Self Reliance Different philosophers have advanced varying argument
pertaining to the relationship between the individual and society. While many of them have attempted
to establish a connection between the two entities, Emerson, a transcendentalist philosopher takes a
different perspective. In his essay titled Self Reliance, he insists that people should trust themselves
and break the rules that have been established by the society. In order to achieve this, Emerson
suggests that individuals should seek to follow their own instincts and avoid the dictations that have
been imposed by culture or religion. In his discussion, clearly structured arguments on travel and
society are vivid. His arguments revolve around the proposition that change in the society does not
take place in a desirable manner, rather people are ignorant to note the detriments that come along.
Indeed, the ideological arguments on travel and society the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

He argues that people should treasure their home place and take necessary measures to improve its
image (Emerson 44). Travelling presents the actual nature of other people s creations and inhibits the
traveler s ability to come up with new designs. Emerson s main argument in travel is that self reliant
people refrain from moving physically to historical sites. Instead, such people allow their minds to
stray to such places and imagine how it could look like. In presenting this argument, Emerson insists
that people should never be contented with the achievements of other people (43). He notes that such
imagination equips the person with wisdom and knowledge to advance counter arguments about
certain uplifted travel destinations. With such wisdom, the person not only proves to be self reliant,
but he also achieves recognition as different person with life changing

shown explicitly only in a single dream sequence, the theme of humans turning into machines and vice

be easily targeted by the black hat hackers. They use their skills to help improve and secure computer
operating systems. Black hat hackers use their hacking skills for bad. Their intent is to steal, damage,
and destroy their potential victim. (Investigating High Tech Crime page by Michael Knetzger and
Jeremy Muraski pages 126). A famous white hat hacker well known is Stephen Wozniak. Also known
as Woz is famous for his contributes to Apple. Working along sides Apple s current CEO Steve Jobs,
co founded Apple computers. Woz began his white gat hacking career with making blue boxes which
are devices that bypass telephone switching mechanisms to make free long distance calls around the
world. After Woz and Jobs did their research on phone phreaking they then built the blue boxes and
sold them to their colleagues in collage. Woz then dropped out of college and came up into the world

The Flat Tax System
Taxes are something the people of America have had an issue with since the very creation of this
nation, and it is one of the main reasons the Revolutionary War was fought. The issue of taxes has
morphed over time, and in our current time period, people are debating which tax system should be
implemented. Even though this is a broad topic and a national issue, this paper will only cover the
income tax version of these systems, and which income tax system would be most beneficial to the
state of Texas specifically. Currently, there are three main types of income tax systems, and they are
the progressive income tax system, the flat income tax system, and the no income tax system. By
analyzing research from reputable economists and academic journalists, ... Show more content on

Also, if the government wanted to raise more revenue through raising income taxes, and there was a
flat income tax system in place, they would have to raise the income taxes for everyone across the
board. Now, let s look back the example from earlier where person one made $50,000 and person two
made $100,000. Remember, they both payed the same percentage of their income in taxes, which was
10%: person one payed $5,000, person two payed $10,000. Some people will say that this way of
taxation is unfair because the $5,000 means more to person one than the $10,000 means to person two.
Regardless of whether the $5,000 means more to person one than the $10,000 means to person two is
true or not, they are being treated fairly because they are both paying the same percentage of their
income. The flat tax has good points like its simplicity and ability to stimulate an economy, but it also
has weaknesses like its inability to be flexible after implementation and the possibility of putting even
more of a tax burden on lower income families. Let s move on to the third and final tax system to be
covered which is no income

Argumentative Essay On Food Stamps
Food Stamp of Approval Everyone is guilty of judging another person at some point in his or her life
whether they realize it or not. For instance, if you see a child screaming uncontrollably in Wal Mart,
you might think his parents didn t raise him in a correct way. Society makes it so easy to criticize
others between all the tabloids and articles on social media. While criticizing others may be easy, we
all know it is wrong. While the problem remains in our judgement of the people around us, the
solution centers around tolerance and equality. Because I am a cashier at Town Country, I see many
different people come into the familiar regularly. It is my job to treat customers with utmost respect
while they are shopping there. However, I sometimes tend to silently disprove of some people due to
their payment methods. Most states offer food stamps to people who need some financial assistance.
Food stamps allow people to buy strictly food items without using their own money. The initial
purpose of food stamps is simply to provide help for those families who qualify for the program.
Although food stamps are meant to assist those in need, some individuals tend to abuse the system.
That infuriates the taxpayers in the United States. Taxpayers get frustrated when individuals on food
stamps come in and buy very expensive or unhealthy groceries. The taxpayers then think their money
is being used to support an individual s unhealthy eating habits.

Who Decided To Make A Riot Analysis
Assignment 4 Who decided to make a riot one day? Why did they think violence should be the
answer? When it comes down to the people getting our voice heard, brutality should not have been a
thought that came to mind. Riots are irrelevant because of how innocent people are victimized when
they aren t the ones causing the unfair treatment in our society. I wonder why individuals go against
their own people when it s the ones who are in charge of decision making who we should be angry
with. I think that s exactly what the government wants us to do, go against each other so they could
throw us in prison and make billions of dollars off of us. If the people knew what they were doing to
themselves I guarantee they would put an end to it. It seems

Biochemical Correlates of Anorexia and Bulimia
Millions of people in the United States suffer from anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa. Anorexia
nervosa is a dangerous eating disorder characterized by distorted body image, obsession with food and
weight, drastic reduction in food intake often to the point of starvation, and extreme weight loss (1).
Bulimia nervosa is a somewhat similar eating disorder more specifically characterized by recurring
episodes of uncontrollable binge eating followed by self induced vomiting or abuse of laxatives or
diuretics (2).
The vast majority more than 90 percent of those afflicted with eating disorders are adolescent and
young adult women (1). This has led to the popular belief that eating ... Show more content on

In fact, drugs which act on serotonin pathways in the brain are commonly used for the short term
management of obesity. Fenfluramine, one of the two drugs which make up the controversial diet pill
Fen Phen, is an example of one such drug. Fenfluramine, along with dexfenfluramine (a similar,
purified version of fenfluramine), acts by increasing serotonin activity in the brain, thus suppressing
appetite and facilitating weight loss (5). It has been suggested that food restriction and several other
behaviors which are characteristic of anorexia may be associated with increased serotonin activity (4).
Conversely, it has been shown that decreased serotonin activity in the brain is associated with
enhanced appetite, and thus may be related to bulimia (4). Researchers working in conjunction with
Harvard Medical School have demonstrated a link between bulimia and impaired serotonergic
responsiveness in the brain. The study compared serotonergic activity and the presence of several
behavioral symptoms of bulimia among bulimic and healthy women. Serotonergic responsiveness was
assessed by measuring the activity of the pathway following administration of a serotonin agonist. It
was found that the women with bulimia showed significantly less serotonergic activity following
administration of the agonist than did the healthy women. In other words, the agonist did not have as
great an effect on serotonin activity in bulimic

The Shape of the American Military, Technology, Culture Essay
Technology and the American Way of War Since 1945 covers in detail a wide range of weapons
systems, technologies, and other equipment developed by the United States Military. Naturally, a
significant amount of Mahnken s book places a heavy emphasis on technologies and systems
developed during the Cold War. The book could almost be examined as a complete history of the
development of military technology during that period, however, the author has a much more
significant purpose for his work than to just educate the reader on military history. Mahnken says, This
book is about the interaction of technology and culture in the context of the strategic environment. It
argues that technology both shaped and was shaped by the culture of the U.S. ... Show more content

Two, it put no personnel in immediate danger (Mahnken, loc. 330 340).
Another question is whether or not nuclear weapons had revolutionized warfare and the use of ground
forces. Mahnken writes that The advent of nuclear weapons and strategic air power appeared to call
into question the utility of traditional ground forces (Mahnken, loc. 665). While nuclear weapons were
certainly an advantage in warfare, not every situation is going to call for the use of a nuclear weapon.
History has shown that even in the most recent of conflicts, militaries continue to rely on ground
forces. Perhaps the advancement of aircraft and their technologies have been much more crucial to the
changes in modern day militaries and how they fight wars.
However, history has shown that even recent conflicts continue to rely on ground forces to some
extent. The use of air power may have taken over, but nuclear advancements seem to be of little
consequence today. Air bombings and the use of smart weapons has dramatically increased, but troops
still hit the ground.
As previously stated, Mahnken proposes that technology is not only shaped by culture, but that
technology itself shapes culture. Changes in higher education prove him to be right. By the early 70 s
there were over 10,000 engineers employed in the aerospace industry (Mahnken, loc. 788).

The Christianity Of Christianity From A Pagan Society
England s history includes interesting facts in regard to religion that developed over time. One piece
of Historiography mentions the development of Christianity from a Pagan society to Christianity. This
development is mentioned in Bede s work Ecclesiastical History of the Christian People. He discusses
kings who helps bring the faith of Christianity to a rise. Paganism does exist even if Christianity began
to rise. Bede suggests there is variations in England due to paganism existing and Christianity is trying
to arise.
Variations are involved in Paganism at a time when it is dominant over Christianity. By the time of
Pope Gregory, many people began to worship idols. He is concerned that these matters will become a
major problem . Gregory writes a letter of concern to King Athelbert of Kent about the situation. He
asks Athelbert to speread the Christian faith and suppress the worship of idols. Though, he continues
to go on to say that God will bless him if he does this every day. Several people may establish that
Catholicism is the actual faith. The main point of this all is that Paganism existed alongside
Christianity. This causes the variation of the culture that is with inside the towns of early England. It is
noted that despite his efforts Paganism still lingers.
Now changes of Christianity began to rise under the period of Augustine. He helped reform a church
that is in shambles. Yet, this is not the only exploit that he achieved. He will get King Ethelbert to

Integrating Special Education Children
Disadvantages of Integrating Special Education Children in Regular Classrooms Few topics have as
much controversy as inclusion of children with special needs in regular classrooms. Few professionals
question the appropriateness of inclusion of students with disabilities in regular classes. However,
significant debate about which students should form part of the general education classes and the time
they should spend in those classes persists. This has led to two groups, one for, and the other against
inclusion. There are those who think that all students belong to regular education. This group claims
that all students have a right to attend school with their peers and this can only occur within a single
system where all students form the learning community. Secondly, the group claims that all students
can benefit from education through supportive learning in inclusive settings. Third, they cite stigma as
unfavorable to the children s welfare. Lastly, they observe that the approaches used in special classes
do not significantly differ from those used in regular classes (Zwaagstra et al. 13). Conversely, the
other group believes that only students who meet certain standards should be included in regular
classes. The group supports inclusion only under unique conditions. This group observes in regular
classrooms instructors cannot offer some of the services that students with disabilities need.
Additionally, they claim that instructors in regular classrooms may lack the

Conflict Theory And Symbolic Interaction Theory

The theories that I found related to the movie I chose was conflict theory and symbolic interaction
theory. Conflict theory holds that social order is maintained by domination and power, rather than
consensus and conformity. Conflict theory also ascribes most fundamental developments in human
history, such as democracy and civil rights, to capitalistic attempts to control the masses rather than
desire for social order. Symbolic interaction theory is a theory that human interaction and
communication is facilitated by words, gestures, and other symbols that have conventionalize
meanings. Symbolic interaction people attach meanings to symbols, and then they act according to
their subjective interpretation of the symbols. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The girl Montage garden gnome and the boy Capulet garden gnome fall in love. The families then

because the movie was based on two different social groups. The different social groups didn t want
any relations with one another. For example, the major conflict of the movies was the relationship that
formed between the Capulet and Montague genomes. The relationship caused a war between the
families. Last, Symbolic interaction theory relates to the movies because the movie used to label to
identify the different social groups. The symbols of the groups were their hats which showed that they
were genomes. The different symbolic interactions between the groups were the color of their hats.
For example, the Capulet s hats were red and the Montague s hats were blue. The Capulet s were
represented as a lower standard social class than the Montages. I liked having this assignment. The

Types of Car Brake System Essay
HISTORY AND BACKGROUND
In a little over hundred years since automobile took hold of most people s imagination, technologies
design to make acceleration faster and reaching higher speeds have evolved. Despite charges, turbo
charges, twin turbo charges or NOX, there are limits, which cannot be greater by land based vehicle in
terms of speed. Not the same can be said about the rather unseen parts of the automotive evolution.
The only limitation to them is in connection with the human body s ability to withstand rapid
decelerations. It would be a lot easier to stop a car then to make it go faster otherwise. Whether they
come in form of drum brakes or as disk, the brakes have been the horsepower s companions
throughout decades, each pulling ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The drum break had a main problem and that is that the heat within is not efficiently disbursed. Since
the drum prevents wind from drawing it away. The heat produced inside the drum does not easily
escape. The disk brake however was open to the wind, allowing the heat to be easily carried away,
increasing the efficiency of the break.
The development and use of the disk brakes was fist in England in the 1980 s. Frederick William
Lanchaster was the first guy that patented the first ever caliper type disk brake in his Birmingham
factory in 1902 and it was used successfully on his Lanchaster cars. He struggled to keep up the
maintenance of a quality brake because of the limited choice of metals in the period of time. Causing
him to use copper as the braking medium acting on the disk. However, due to the bad road conditions,
it didn t allow copper to last very long because copper can wear out easily, making the disk brake
system non viable.
Crosley Hot Shot in the 1950 is often given the credit for first use of the U.S production of disk brake.
The Chrystal Crown Imperial had them first used actually, as a standard equipment at the beginning of
the model year in 1942. Crosley disk was a good year development that was originally designed for
use on aircrafts; it was the caliper type with ventilated rotor. Regions that required the use of salt like
winter roads caused sticking and corrosion, leading to enormous reliability problems due to the lack of
research.

How Does Beowulf Contribute To Our Understanding Of Anglo...
The primary objective of historians is to determine the culture of civilizations in the past. Historians
use literature, artifacts, and folktales to grasp an understanding of a specific culture. The epic poem,
Beowulf is the first piece of literature known to the English language. Unlike the hundreds of other
English literature, Beowulf gives readers an insight into the culture of Anglo Saxons in southern
Sweden between the time period of 449 1066 AD. Beowulf contributes to the understanding of the
Anglo Saxon culture by including information about power, religion, and reward. Throughout the
poem, Beowulf is constantly proving this heroicness by crucifying the fiends that are terrorizing
Geatland. After defeating Grendel, Beowulf is rewarded with a gold standard as a victory gift, (69).
This simple reward provides acumen for the use of gold within this time period; the Anglo Saxons did
not use gold as a mean of currency but rather as an identifier for a social class. This quote implies that
instead of paying for food with gold, the Anglo Saxons bartered. Another use of gold within the epic
poem, is Beowulf s barrow that is constructed and filled with treasure after he dies. This further
demonstrates how treasure was not viewed as currency during the Anglo Saxon time period. From the
beginning of civilization, women were not considered powerful, ... Show more content on

pagan beliefs such as believing in more than one God. The religion aspect of the poem is not true to

describe Grendel s mother (89). This description would have not been included in the oral poem
because it directly identifies with Christian beliefs. The lack of pagan beliefs and conflict of interest

The Battle of Normandy
The Battle of Normandy WWII was a very brutal war, but The Battle of Normandy changed it for us.
This was the turning point in the war. To prepare for this fight the Allies decided to increase the air
strikes and bombings to slow down the German army, who had been trying to take over France at the
time. This battle was set for June 5th, but actually took place on June 6, 1944 at exactly 6:30 a.m,
when the weather was supposed to be the calmest, and ended on June 30, 1944. The Allies wanted to
end Hitler s dream of Nazi denomination (www.dday.org). This invasion is known as one of the largest
and amphibious military assaults in history and required extensive planning. (www.history.com). The
Allies decided that they wanted to trick the Germans into thinking that they were going to land
somewhere else north of Normandy, which made it a surprise attack. Hitler decided to put his troops
more up North because that s where he believed the Allies were going to land. Not only were the
beaches raided, but concentration camps as well. Led by the US Army General Dwight D. Eisenhowet,
the infantries landed and mainly targeted a 50 mile stretch of Normandy. The Americans landed at

of 50,000 vehicles, 6,000 ships, and 11,000 planes. Paratroopers and gliders had already landed behind

The Mythology Of The Greek Mythology
Nowadays people remember Ancient Greece somewhat, pieces here and there, taught briefly in your
common high school global history class. What most people often forget is that the Ancient Greeks
were and still are such a great influence towards our Western culture. Of course, they are not the only
ones who have contributed to our knowledgeable society. Though, when it comes to the category of
psychology I believe that the Ancient Greeks contributed the most, specifically with their mythology.
A myth is defined as a traditional or legendary story, collection, or study. It is derived from the Greek
word mythos, which simply means story. The Greek myths had many purposes to the Greeks such as
teaching a moral lesson, explaining the origins of the world, explaining the origins of the gods and
their relationships with humans, and why certain events occurred in nature. The authors of each myth
were said to be divinely inspired by the Muses. The Muses were the goddesses of artistic inspiration.
These Muses were thought to whisper in the ear of the author the adventures of the gods. Thus, myths
held a sacred place in ancient Greece as they were seen to be divinely inspired and were meant to
express an important message about life or the gods to the people.
Not only was mythology important to the Ancient Greeks, but forward a couple millenniums later and
a great psychologist was influenced by the importance of the myths as well Sigmund Freud. Freud was

A Short Note On The Cell Phone Industry
Although Microsoft was slow to join the cell phone war, and was unsuccessful in partaking in the

the poem to talk directly to the reader and make them feel responsible. Imagery creates a powerful
picture in the reader s mind making them realise the impact on the land. Finally, there is an admirable
sense of contrast in this poem going from anger to vengeance.
One of the most noticeable language features used in this poem is narrative point of view. It s written
in second person, so Papatuanuku (god of the land) explains her perspective on NZ colonisation ...

The first half has an angry tone to begin with towards the colonisers for what has been done to the
land. This changes to being vengeful and threatening to all of mankind with real world warnings.
Papatuanuku angrily explains our actions and will strike back in ways we don t expect that is deadly to
all humans. For instance, the land says Ruamoko the unborn god rumbles within me and the fires of
Ruapehu still lives Ruamoko is god of the volcanos and Mount Ruapehu is an active volcano in New
Zealand which last had a major eruption twenty years ago. Papatuanuku is threatening us and
foreshadows the future that one day, Ruapehu will erupt. The author s purpose of writing about threats
to humanity is to remind us of the horrible actions we have committed to our environment. There are
numerous instances nationally and internationally where the land has taken its revenge by killing
millions of humans, animals and infrastructure. One of the world s deadliest earthquakes and tsunamis
were in Ache, Indonesia (2004) with a magnitude of 9.1, killing 280,000 people. This earthquake is
the perfect example of the land taking revenge. Its intention was to cause death and destruction and
certainly did in just fifteen minutes. It was the way the land shows it s anger and

Albert Einstein Dropping The Atomic Bombs
Albert Einstein did not directly participate in the manufacturing of the atomic bomb, but his research
and theories were critical to advancing its development. The atomic bombs built back during World
War 2 that were dropped on Japan depended on nuclear fission to create their explosions. Nuclear
fission is the splitting of a heavy atom into smaller pieces. This process releases an enormous amount
of energy. The bomb (Little Boy) dropped over Hiroshima worked by firing a mass of uranium 235
into another mass of uranium 235, which created a chain reaction. The bomb (Fat Man) dropped over
Nagasaki worked by placing plutonium 239 into the center of a hollowed out sphere of intense
explosive devices. These explosive devices would be triggered

Vertical Zonation and the Rocky Shore

Vertical Zonation and the Rocky Shore
According to Yonge (1949), the zoning of both plants and animals within the narrow vertical limits of
a rocky shore is one of the most striking features about shore life. It is noticeable particularly where
sessile organisms (such as barnacles) occur in abundance on the boundaries of their vertical
distribution, as they form a conspicuous line (Boaden Seed, 1985). The author has also been
particularly impressed by clear zonation patterns of brown algae often to be found on rocky shores.
Precise and universal demarcation of these zones is impossible (Brehaut, 1982), but a comprehension
of the vertical zonation of rocky shores is clearly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At mid shore, for example, exposure is 50 percent of the time to air, and 50 percent to water. This area
forms the eulittoral zone, and a greater number of species are found here than in the littoral fringe.
Communities found in this zone must be tolerant of short periods of exposure to air between the tides,
although they almost always require regular submersion or at least a thorough wetting (Tait and
Dipper, 1998). Species include barnacles, mussels, and other sessile forms such as oysters (Boaden
Seed, 1985). The barnacles commonly belong to such genera as Balanus, Chthamalus, and Tetraclita.
There is a strong tendency (Stephenson Stephenson, 1972) for this zone to be further divided into two
or three subzones. In lower subzones, barnacles may be obliterated or overshadowed by other
sedentary forms; but in the higher eulittoral subzones barnacles are greatest in concentration, and
show dominance. The eulittoral is bounded at the top end by the disappearance of barnacles in any
significant quantity (Stephenson Stephenson, 1972).
The lowest part of the shore is uncovered at extreme low water spring tide, never at neap tides, and is
known as the sublittoral zone. Where wave action is particularly strong, this zone may not even be
uncovered except when the lowest spring tides coincide with calm weather. As such, this zone is
exposed to the air for very short periods, and for a very small proportion, of time. In many places, it

Current Prioritization Of Early Warning
Objectives This paper aims to find out the 1. Current prioritization of early warning (EW) in policy
action and find out the reason behind it 2. Successes and challenges in early warning (EW)
implementation Methodology In this study, different journal articles, government reports and
resources on the internet have been used for literature review. Various sets of secondary data were also
used. Moreover, the author used the learnings and class notes of the Environmental risk and hazard
course for the write up of this paper. Prioritizing early warning (EW) in current policy actions From
the article of Haque, C. E., Uddin, M. S. (2013) it is evident that there was a policy shift from post
event response to the preparedness and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is due to three reasons. Firstly, 75% of all disasters originate from weather climate extremes
(DMB, 2010). Secondly, Disaster risk reduction and adaptation to climate change strategies both are
aimed at enhancing sustainability, resilient societies and human security. Thirdly, similar sectoral
focus, complexities and challenges rely on the same type of measures and policies. Disaster risk
reduction offers opportunities for bottom up strategies for adaptation to current climate variability and
climate extremes. Disaster risk reduction with climate change adaptation offers a win win opportunity
(DMB, 2010). Bangladesh Climate Change Strategy and Action Plan is a sort of combined strategy
paper to fight against climate change and disasters. It focuses mainly on early warning, awareness
building and education. Theme Program Objective T2: Comprehensive disaster management
P1:Improvement of flood forecasting and early warning Increase lead time and strengthening
dissemination mechanism P2: Improvement of cyclone and storm surge warning Improvement in
cyclone warning dissemination to local communities, through awareness campaigns P3: Awareness
raising and public education towards resilience Community based preparedness and improved
resilience Source: (MOEF, 2009) Reasons for prioritization There is no optimal risk management

The Theories of Freud and Jung
1. Freud s essay on The Sexual Aberrations posits the existence of a sexual urge, called libido , which
Freud finds analogous to hunger. Freud suggests that, like hunger, the libido manifests itself more or
less from birth. The chief question for Freud in this paper is why libido should manifest itself in
unexpected ways as with inversion , which is the slightly old fashioned term that Freud uses for
homosexuality. Freud rather unexpectedly relies on the suggestion that mucus membranes in general
are susceptible to sexual stimulation in his opinion, this accounts for such varied phenomena as
kissing, thumbsucking, and anal sex. Freud then goes on to explain foot fetishism and other sexual
fascination with inanimate objects in terms of primitive religion: This substitution is not unjustly
compared with the fetich in which the savage sees the embodiment of his god. (Freud 1910). Freud
goes on to explain other aberrations, such as Sado Masochism, in terms of their attempt to cope with
an overvaluation of the sexual object. The idealistic impulses of love are seen, by Freud, as perhaps
even more evident in people who love whips or feet. Ultimately Freud brings it back to the nature of
the hypothesized infantile sexuality in Freud s belief, this has no natural object and is expressed in all
directions at once. By contemporary scientific standards, Freud s essay is a mess. To take the most
obvious example, Freud died in 1939: this is the same year that the Nobel Prize in

Asians And Asian American Culture
This class helped me realize how ignorant I really was about the Asian American culture as well as the
Native American culture. I generally believed that I was more culturally sound than I actually am. I
believed that I knew more about these cultures than I really did and was shocked to realize that I fed
into some of the stereotypes. I knew that Asian Americans did well academically because their parents
valued education and had them study more than their peers, however I did not realize that culturally
boys were expected to succeed more academically than girls were. I believed that girls were equally
held up to a standard as boys were. Watching the film clips related to Asians and Asian Americans was
an eye opening experience. Just as African Americans are told that their natural hair is not good
enough and it is internalized, it appears it is the same for many Asian Americans in relation to their
eyes. The film clip about the young girl being taken to have plastic surgery on her eyes at the age of
12 because she felt that she would be more beautiful was a heart breaking scene to watch. It never
occurred to me that a feature that is specific to that particular group would become something that has
almost become shameful to a lot of people. To have an eye surgery is a serious decision one has to
make and for that little girl to be so sure that she wants her eyes operated on at 12 years old was
something that I could relate to, but not understand. I also did not realize

The Death Of The World
Ali strolled in on a colleague, likewise a decent companion that has worked with for as far back as
five years his name is Adie, his taking diazepam, a drug used in the treatment of anxiety or muscle
spasms. Adie expressed that he had forgotten to carry his own prescribed ones in a hurry to get to
work that day, and he could not skip his scheduled time to take the drug. Adie is asking Ali not to say
anything to anybody and guarantees it was just a one time thing, and it could never happen again. Ali
believes him and chooses not to educate anybody concerning what simply happened. At that point a
month later Ali see him taking another dose of diazepam, putting them in his pocket without checking
with anyone and minutes after Ali see him go into the toilet. Recollecting the occurrence that
happened the last month before, Ali went in into the toilet not long after he has gone in and a wrapping
of diazepam was found. Ali chooses not to let him know he had seen all the happenings.
Resolving the dilemma with NMC code of ethics As an authorized professional medical attendant

The Financial Crisis Of Greece
Over the 15 years the German has been widely viewed as the economic catalyst and stabilizer for its
fellow European Union states. Even following the Financial Crisis in 2008, the German economy was
able to bounce back quicker than neighboring Eurozone states the source of German success points to
a high export led growth economy with a competitive manufacturing sector, lower unemployment,
balanced budget, and low costs to borrow. With most economic indicators pointing to strong future
growth, it remains to be seen whether a spillover effect occurs to the rest of the EU. Despite a number
of reforms, EU countries continue to suffer due to lack of global competitiveness. In dire straits,
Greece continues to leverage the support of the European Central Bank and Eurozone states to avoid
another financial collapse. In support of Greece, Germany itself lent the country €56 billion, however
Germany has begun to lose patience over Greece s attempts to renegotiate terms of its bailout. As the
German economy has persevered through economic turmoil, while Eurozone has struggled, Germany
continues to be a shining light of prosperity in the European Union.
Profile of German Economy As the largest economy in Europe, Germany has rebounded from the
global crisis unlike any other country. Germany s success stems from a strong export sector, low
unemployment, strong housing and manufacturing sectors and a balanced budget. Prior to the crisis,
Germany implemented a set of structural reforms

US Intellectual Property Laws (Copyright)
Intellectual Property
Everywhere we look there is intellectual property. Intellectual property relates to intangible property
such as patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets (USLegal, n.d.). With all of the intellectual
property readily available, online and in print there is no wonder that we as a society have an issue
with safe guarding our own intellectual property. In order to protect our intellectual property there
have been many laws and or rules established to govern how we handle and safeguard this type of
property. These laws are found at both state and federal levels and are different between states. In a
similar fashion, laws vary between countries as well.

  • 2. Harappa And Mexican Civilization Essay Last night I dreamed that I went back in time, as I walked around I saw people farming wheat and barley as well as growing dates and melons. In the city there were artist making art using copper, bronze, ivory and wood. I learned that they were the first to make cotton cloth. Traders were trading goods with the traders from Egypt and Mesopotamia. I asked a woman in a red dress if she could tell me a little about her land. She told me that this society was called the Harappa and Mohrenjo Daro society. I asked how organized her government was. She said that the government was very strong and organized. The cities were well planned right down to the water and sewer system. The people were an educated and religious people. They had developed their own system of writing that was done on clay tablets, statues and other remains. Her society worshipped a mother goddess. They were polytheists; they believed the buffalo and bull was sacred. They treated their animals special. I saw some graves that were filled with offerings like food and weapons. She told me that they thought the dead might need these in an afterlife. I thanked her and she was on her way. In my dream, I made my way to another group of ancient settlers. They were nomads. They traveled across the mountain range of northeastern Asia into the land of Harappa/Mohenjo Daro the land that I had already been to. After conquering ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 3. Analysis Of Dave Barry s Guys Vs. A short essay Guys vs. Men written by Dave Barry, presents Dave s perception on the difference between Guys and Men . Dave presents his essay in a comical way that generalizes the men vs. guys and also gender biased generalization. Dave argues that men hold too much of responsibilities and many expectations in which guys do not and they live happier life. One of the methods he uses to support his argument is a comparison. Other method he uses is the description of how he views men vs. guys and gives his perspective. And the last method he uses to further his argument is the use of hyperbole, exaggeration through out the essay. First method of development Dave uses to further his argument is a comparision and gender biased generalization. His temptation to buy new and unnecessary things just because he is a guy can be compared when he compares females urge to rearrange furniture with males urge of using newest and latest technical equipments. Dave separates guys and women by giving their choice that is somewhat statistically true, that women are more interested in decorating house oppose to buying latest version of technical items. Dave s use of logos play significant role here to support his argument. Not only he compares guys and women, but also guys with his auxiliary dog. (919). He compares that guys do not follow rules even though they know they are not suppose to do things they do, just like his small auxiliary backup dog. Dave is saying that his ... • 5. Upheaval and Renewal in Egypt and Syria According to Cleveland, the concept of upheval and renewal can be considered a common feature for the countries in the Middle East in the 1970s. After the formation of independent states, one can notice a general tendence in Arab republics towards the consolidation of their power. This essay aims at comparing and contrasting this process in Egypt and Syria starting from 1970, year in which both countries saw the coming into power of new leaders, Anwar Sadat and Hafiz Al Asad, and a subsequent change from the previous regime s policies. Given the shortage of space and the complexity of the matter, the focus will be only on the most evident aspects of authoritarian power consolidation under those two leaders without going too much into ... Under his direct control, it indoctrinates the population into the cult of his personality and the principles of his regime. The Ba th was a critical actor in the reproduction of the system s populist identity . Being in the party was the only way to access higher education and to find a good job given the complex networ of Ba thist patronage that starting from the president unrolled downwards covering all areas of society. There was no room for opposition at all. This system lasted until the end of the Cold War, when in order to adapt to the democratisation trend and avoid Western powers criticism, the regime introduced parliamentary elections in 1990 involving for the first time a small number of private sectors representative from outside the Ba th. But most of the seats were won by the party after an expected triumph. The following year elections were called for the presidency and Al Asad started his fourth mandate with 99.8% of votes . This democratic changes were introduced fairly late compared to the Egypt s ones, but they had the same cosmetic features. Born in 1875 he was a Swiss psychiatrist and psychotherapist who founded analytical psychology, of which Jung decided the central concept to be individualism. He thought that there were four basic principal functions by which we see the world, sensation, intuition, feeling, and thinking. He claimed that we use one of those senses is what we use most of the time. Each of the eight letters stand for different things in the Myers Briggs profile. The letter E represents Extraversion. Which are basically extraverts, people that are go getters in life, life working in large groups, have lots of friends, and are easily excited by being around other people. The letter I stands for Introversion. Which are introverts, people who are calm, reserved, take the time to reflect on ideas that explain the outside world. The letter N represents Intuition. Intuitive type may be concerned with what is new and doing new and different things. They see the big picture of things and are constantly brain storming ideas. They would also rather gain understanding through insight than through hands on experiences. The Letter S stand for sensing. Rhino Poaching Essay Poaching of Rhinos: A Growing Transnational Crime Industry In 2011, the West African black rhino was declared extinct by the IUCN (International Union for Conservation and Nature). Now all five rhino species left are in the endangers list (Poaching: The Statistics). The reason the rhino population has nearly been driven to extinction is due to poaching. The rhinos are being hunted and killed for their horns, which is a valued ingredient used in traditional Asian medicines (Poaching of Rhinos in the Spotlight). This is because rhino horn is more expensive than most things out there. • 9. Tsar Nicholas II And The Russo-Japanese War The two essays I have selected take different approaches concerning Tsar Nicholas II and his decision making process. The two men take not only different approaches to the tsar but arrive at different conclusions. Rotem Kowner s essay, Nicholas II and the Japanese body: Images and decision making on the eve of the Russo Japanese War, examines Nicholas s attitude toward the Japanese and how it affected his decision. Raymond Esthus s essay, Nicholas II and the Russo Japanese War, shows Nicholas s commitment to autocracy and a stubborn resolve to defend Russia s honor. Ethmus dismisses the idea of Nicholas being weak minded and easily led. It was the mismanagement of the administration that caused Nicholas to misread the political realities the Russian nation was encountering. The Russians were not aware of the threat they were to the Japanese, as the Russians pushed for the completion of the Trans Siberian Railway. Russia s management of the situation was an idea of avoiding a conflict Kowner sees the increasing strain on the relationship between Japan and Russia as the tsar meddled with the work of the ministries in the capital. While Ethmus sees the administration as mismanaging the situation, Kowner would agree with the tsar misreading the crisis but not where the mismanagement came from. He places the blame directly on the tsar. Had the tsar realized the full military potential of his enemy, Russia could have prepared better for war, and strategic decisions, such ... The majority of the working and oppressed people all over the world are with us. Ours is the cause of justice. Our victory is assured. 1 October was a classic coup d état, the capture of governmental power by a small minority, carried out without mass engagement. 2 The October Revolution was perhaps the most momentous event of the twentieth century. It led to the creation of the Soviet Union, the first avowedly Communist nation in history, which was to become a global superpower, an inspiration to many, an object of the hatred of many more. Possibly more important was the role the memory of the October Revolution played in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The October Revolution was interpreted quite differently by those hostile to the Communist leaders of the Soviet Union. In their top down histories of the Russian Revolution the common people appeared as the passive objects of the evil machinations of the Bolsheviks. 4 The Bolsheviks cynically adopted populist and anarchist slogans in order to recruit the masses as foot soldiers in their own quest for power. If any apparent support for the October Revolution was seen among the masses, it was the product of ignorance, skilled propaganda and a supple improvisation by the Bolsheviks themselves, who transformed their elite operation into a temporary mass organization 5 to seduce the Russian masses. The socialist reality of October was imaginary, and the Revolution itself was an amateur police operation masked with expert propaganda to give an appearance of proletarian legitimacy 6 Both of these interpretations are heavily politicized. The former s purpose was to establish the legitimacy of the Soviet Union as the genuine embodiment of the will of the Russian Proletariat, the authentic People s State. The latter was meant to strip the USSR of that legitimacy and expose the oppressive and unpopular dictatorship that ruled the country with an iron fist. As is not uncommon in such situations, both of these interpretations ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. The Effects Of Media On Young Girls Around The World Everyday television, film, advertisement and music industries deliver contradicting messages to young girls around the world, especially in well technology developed nations like US. They create mayhem and confusion among adolescents, who are trying to find themselves, fit in and safely pass into womanhood stage. At home and school girls are being taught how important it is to obtain education, career, learn responsibilities as well as how to become great mothers and wives, take care of the house and act like ladies. But as soon as they turn on TV, open a magazine or log into the Internet they are being taken for a roller coaster ride, which may seem like a lot of fun at first, but going further it becomes a struggle and pulls teens further and further away from their culture and values presented by loved ones. They are being flooded with fake images of happiness achieved by purchasing a certain product, ability to fit in by wearing fashionable clothes and leaving a moment without worrying about the consequences that will follow reckless behavior. Media are guilty of supplying young minds with garbage just to make a quick dollar and don t care about the future of next generations. In those 100 or so years, Wegmans has become one of the most respected and successful grocers in that region, if not the country. The reason for this success is the commitment that Wegmans has put in place. Wegmans follows an extremely detailed plan, that allows for them to have a great grasp on what sort of inventory the stores need to keep on hand. Wegmans also is a leader in the area of sustainability. As Wegmans continues growing their footprint, they will continue to implement these processes and continue to be a leader in the grocery industry. Process Management Since Wegmans Food Markets, Inc. was founded in 1916 as the Rochester Fruit and Vegetable Company by John Wegman the company has grown to be one of the largest privately owned companies in the United States (Ezzedan, Hyde, Laurin, 2006, p. 298). The highly ranked company, based in Rochester, New York, has branched out into other major cities in the New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Virginia areas. Recognized by Fortune magazine as a best company to work for, a single Wegmans superstore typically employs five hundred to six hundred employees (Stevenson, 2015, p. 33). BSBCUS501C Work Related Project Question 1 Excellence in customer service is the objective of all organisations wishing to be successful. However, there is often a gap between customer expectations and management perceptions of customer expectations. Organisations often fail to get close to their customers and correctly read their expectations. Other reasons for customer service problems include: * not listening to or collecting information from customers * poor, or no, focus on the actual design of processes to turn identified customer needs into products and services * gaps between what the organisation intends to produce for its customers and what its systems do actually produce * gaps between what the system is ... When asking customers for their input or feedback, they need to feel as if their opinions matter, they are more likely to continue supporting the organisation if they feel their feedback has been taken seriously and into consideration. Listening to the customer and acting timely on their feedback is important for the organisation, failing to understand a customer s needs can result in widespread negative comments about the organisation and the loss of customers and potential customers. By not listening to customers and understanding what they need from a product or service will not allow the organisation to maintain its effectiveness in the market place, producing poor quality products or service and effecting overall profitability for the organisation. Each organisation needs to develop and establish procedures, standards and guidelines for customer service requirements and communicate these to all staff. By establishing courses of action to accomplish specific goals, utilising information and data obtained through feedback will assist in identifying and acting upon the customer s needs. In an article from the website, Science Daily, researchers have discovered more evidence to support the theory of the Milky Way growing from the middle and spreading outwards over time. This evidence came from the current Gaia ESO project that was created by the European Space Agency. After reading this article, I realized just how important this information could be. I want to know how the Milky Way was created, because then I will be able to find out more information about how my home, Earth, was created as well. The thin bands are generally young with spiral arms, young stars, giant molecular clouds (University of Cambridge, 2014). The thick band is older since it has stars with a lower metallicity. Given the study done in Chile, there were several conclusions made. First, that the thin disk stars all had similar metallicity even though there ages spanned over 8 billion years. Second, that stars older than 9 billion years had a very low metallicity, and this was described as a steep decline (University of Cambridge, 2014). However, given these two conclusions, the study also found that there are stars that are young with a low metallicity as well, meaning that the study is not completely cut and dry, so to speak. There is no distinguishable evidence that would allow researchers to definitely conclude the existence of a thin and thick disk or the creation of the Milky Way from the inside out. The study produced generalities, and whether or not these generalities are the absolute truth, scientists are hesitant to rely solely on the results from the Gaia Eso Survey. Granted, over the next few years, researchers are eager to use the Gaia Eso survey to further their observations and study of the Milky Way, and they are hopeful to come to a conclusion about how the Milky Way was created, rather than just relying on theories of the Milky Way overcoming smaller galaxies. What Is Self Reliance By Ralph Waldo Emerson Ralph Waldo Emerson s Self Reliance Different philosophers have advanced varying argument pertaining to the relationship between the individual and society. While many of them have attempted to establish a connection between the two entities, Emerson, a transcendentalist philosopher takes a different perspective. In his essay titled Self Reliance, he insists that people should trust themselves and break the rules that have been established by the society. In order to achieve this, Emerson suggests that individuals should seek to follow their own instincts and avoid the dictations that have been imposed by culture or religion. Now, let s look back the example from earlier where person one made $50,000 and person two made $100,000. Remember, they both payed the same percentage of their income in taxes, which was 10%: person one payed $5,000, person two payed $10,000. Some people will say that this way of taxation is unfair because the $5,000 means more to person one than the $10,000 means to person two. Regardless of whether the $5,000 means more to person one than the $10,000 means to person two is true or not, they are being treated fairly because they are both paying the same percentage of their income. Fenfluramine, one of the two drugs which make up the controversial diet pill Fen Phen, is an example of one such drug. It has been suggested that food restriction and several other behaviors which are characteristic of anorexia may be associated with increased serotonin activity (4). Conversely, it has been shown that decreased serotonin activity in the brain is associated with enhanced appetite, and thus may be related to bulimia (4). Researchers working in conjunction with Harvard Medical School have demonstrated a link between bulimia and impaired serotonergic responsiveness in the brain. While nuclear weapons were certainly an advantage in warfare, not every situation is going to call for the use of a nuclear weapon. History has shown that even in the most recent of conflicts, militaries continue to rely on ground forces. Perhaps the advancement of aircraft and their technologies have been much more crucial to the changes in modern day militaries and how they fight wars. However, history has shown that even recent conflicts continue to rely on ground forces to some extent. One piece of Historiography mentions the development of Christianity from a Pagan society to Christianity. This development is mentioned in Bede s work Ecclesiastical History of the Christian People. He discusses kings who helps bring the faith of Christianity to a rise. Paganism does exist even if Christianity began to rise. Bede suggests there is variations in England due to paganism existing and Christianity is trying to arise. Variations are involved in Paganism at a time when it is dominant over Christianity. By the time of Pope Gregory, many people began to worship idols. He is concerned that these matters will become a major problem . Gregory writes a letter of concern to King Athelbert of Kent about the situation. He asks Athelbert to speread the Christian faith and suppress the worship of idols. Though, he continues to go on to say that God will bless him if he does this every day. Several people may establish that Catholicism is the actual faith. The heat produced inside the drum does not easily escape. The disk brake however was open to the wind, allowing the heat to be easily carried away, increasing the efficiency of the break. The development and use of the disk brakes was fist in England in the 1980 s. Frederick William Lanchaster was the first guy that patented the first ever caliper type disk brake in his Birmingham factory in 1902 and it was used successfully on his Lanchaster cars. He struggled to keep up the maintenance of a quality brake because of the limited choice of metals in the period of time. Causing him to use copper as the braking medium acting on the disk. Historians use literature, artifacts, and folktales to grasp an understanding of a specific culture. The epic poem, Beowulf is the first piece of literature known to the English language. Unlike the hundreds of other English literature, Beowulf gives readers an insight into the culture of Anglo Saxons in southern Sweden between the time period of 449 1066 AD. Beowulf contributes to the understanding of the Anglo Saxon culture by including information about power, religion, and reward. Throughout the poem, Beowulf is constantly proving this heroicness by crucifying the fiends that are terrorizing Geatland. After defeating Grendel, Beowulf is rewarded with a gold standard as a victory gift, (69). This simple reward provides acumen for the use of gold within this time period; the Anglo Saxons did not use gold as a mean of currency but rather as an identifier for a social class. This quote implies that instead of paying for food with gold, the Anglo Saxons bartered. Another use of gold within the epic poem, is Beowulf s barrow that is constructed and filled with treasure after he dies. Of course, they are not the only ones who have contributed to our knowledgeable society. Though, when it comes to the category of psychology I believe that the Ancient Greeks contributed the most, specifically with their mythology. A myth is defined as a traditional or legendary story, collection, or study. It is derived from the Greek word mythos, which simply means story. The Greek myths had many purposes to the Greeks such as teaching a moral lesson, explaining the origins of the world, explaining the origins of the gods and their relationships with humans, and why certain events occurred in nature. The authors of each myth were said to be divinely inspired by the Muses. The Muses were the goddesses of artistic inspiration. These Muses were thought to whisper in the ear of the author the adventures of the gods. Thus, myths held a sacred place in ancient Greece as they were seen to be divinely inspired and were meant to express an important message about life or the gods to the people. Despite the losses already assumed by Microsoft which includes, assumed infringement liabilities by the purchase of the Nokia cell phone line, and the added expenses in the amount of $780 million under the Phone Hardware Restructuring Plan (SEC, 10Q dated 09/2016), our team feels Microsoft is in a good position to release a desirable and successful phone line. Furthermore, our team also believes that Microsoft invested in the market to leave the table at this point. As Leo Sun from TMSunLion said: it was reported that Microsoft s phone hardware revenue plunged 46% annually in constant currency terms due to the downsizing of the business and market share losses. Meanwhile, Surface device sales rose 61%, thanks to strong demand for the Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book. That s probably why Surface VP Panos Panay s team reportedly inherited the Surface Phone project last year launching future mobile devices under the Surface banner instead of the Lumia one might generate ... • 38. Reform Judaism Welcome home! It s been a long journey over the past 18 months. And just two weeks ago, we gathered together to return our Torah scrolls to the ark and dedicate this sanctuary space once again. There is much that is familiar: The ark remains the same and has been beautifully restored. We recognize the same layout of our sanctuary and social hall with placement of the pews and the gentle slope in the sanctuary allowing us to climb up toward the ark, making aliyah. And the words da lifnei m atah omeid, Know before whom you stand, still adorn the front of our sanctuary. There are also many new elements. • 41. Analysis Of The Poem The Womb By Apirana Taylor An important message that is conveyed in the poem The Womb by Apirana Taylor is The Impact of Colonisation on the Land This message is emphasised throughout the poem by using effective language features such as narrative point of view, imagery and contrast. A persona is used throughout the poem to talk directly to the reader and make them feel responsible. Imagery creates a powerful picture in the reader s mind making them realise the impact on the land. Finally, there is an admirable sense of contrast in this poem going from anger to vengeance. One of the most noticeable language features used in this poem is narrative point of view. The first half has an angry tone to begin with towards the colonisers for what has been done to the land. This changes to being vengeful and threatening to all of mankind with real world warnings. Papatuanuku angrily explains our actions and will strike back in ways we don t expect that is deadly to all humans. For instance, the land says Ruamoko the unborn god rumbles within me and the fires of Ruapehu still lives Ruamoko is god of the volcanos and Mount Ruapehu is an active volcano in New Zealand which last had a major eruption twenty years ago. Papatuanuku is threatening us and foreshadows the future that one day, Ruapehu will erupt. The author s purpose of writing about threats to humanity is to remind us of the horrible actions we have committed to our environment. There are numerous instances nationally and internationally where the land has taken its revenge by killing millions of humans, animals and infrastructure. One of the world s deadliest earthquakes and tsunamis were in Ache, Indonesia (2004) with a magnitude of 9.1, killing 280,000 people. This earthquake is the perfect example of the land taking revenge. Its intention was to cause death and destruction and certainly did in just fifteen minutes. Albert Einstein Dropping The Atomic Bombs Albert Einstein did not directly participate in the manufacturing of the atomic bomb, but his research and theories were critical to advancing its development. The atomic bombs built back during World War 2 that were dropped on Japan depended on nuclear fission to create their explosions. Nuclear fission is the splitting of a heavy atom into smaller pieces. This process releases an enormous amount of energy. The bomb (Little Boy) dropped over Hiroshima worked by firing a mass of uranium 235 into another mass of uranium 235, which created a chain reaction. The bomb (Fat Man) dropped over Nagasaki worked by placing plutonium 239 into the center of a hollowed out sphere of intense explosive devices. These explosive devices would be triggered ... • 43. Vertical Zonation and the Rocky Shore Student Number: 500890847 Candidate Number: 14822 Vertical Zonation and the Rocky Shore According to Yonge (1949), the zoning of both plants and animals within the narrow vertical limits of a rocky shore is one of the most striking features about shore life. It is noticeable particularly where sessile organisms (such as barnacles) occur in abundance on the boundaries of their vertical distribution, as they form a conspicuous line (Boaden Seed, 1985). The author has also been particularly impressed by clear zonation patterns of brown algae often to be found on rocky shores. Precise and universal demarcation of these zones is impossible (Brehaut, 1982), but a comprehension of the vertical zonation of rocky shores is clearly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At mid shore, for example, exposure is 50 percent of the time to air, and 50 percent to water. This area forms the eulittoral zone, and a greater number of species are found here than in the littoral fringe. Communities found in this zone must be tolerant of short periods of exposure to air between the tides, although they almost always require regular submersion or at least a thorough wetting (Tait and Dipper, 1998). Species include barnacles, mussels, and other sessile forms such as oysters (Boaden Seed, 1985). The barnacles commonly belong to such genera as Balanus, Chthamalus, and Tetraclita. There is a strong tendency (Stephenson Stephenson, 1972) for this zone to be further divided into two or three subzones. In lower subzones, barnacles may be obliterated or overshadowed by other sedentary forms; but in the higher eulittoral subzones barnacles are greatest in concentration, and show dominance. The eulittoral is bounded at the top end by the disappearance of barnacles in any significant quantity (Stephenson Stephenson, 1972). The lowest part of the shore is uncovered at extreme low water spring tide, never at neap tides, and is known as the sublittoral zone. Where wave action is particularly strong, this zone may not even be uncovered except when the lowest spring tides coincide with calm weather. As such, this zone is exposed to the air for very short periods, and for a very small proportion, of time. In many places, it never fully ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 45. The Theories of Freud and Jung 1. Freud s essay on The Sexual Aberrations posits the existence of a sexual urge, called libido , which Freud finds analogous to hunger. Freud suggests that, like hunger, the libido manifests itself more or less from birth. The chief question for Freud in this paper is why libido should manifest itself in unexpected ways as with inversion , which is the slightly old fashioned term that Freud uses for homosexuality. Freud rather unexpectedly relies on the suggestion that mucus membranes in general are susceptible to sexual stimulation in his opinion, this accounts for such varied phenomena as kissing, thumbsucking, and anal sex. Freud then goes on to explain foot fetishism and other sexual fascination with inanimate objects in terms of primitive religion: This substitution is not unjustly compared with the fetich in which the savage sees the embodiment of his god. (Freud 1910). Freud goes on to explain other aberrations, such as Sado Masochism, in terms of their attempt to cope with an overvaluation of the sexual object. The idealistic impulses of love are seen, by Freud, as perhaps even more evident in people who love whips or feet. Ultimately Freud brings it back to the nature of the hypothesized infantile sexuality in Freud s belief, this has no natural object and is expressed in all directions at once. By contemporary scientific standards, Freud s essay is a mess. To take the most obvious example, Freud died in 1939: this is the same year that the Nobel Prize in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Asians And Asian American Culture This class helped me realize how ignorant I really was about the Asian American culture as well as the Native American culture. I generally believed that I was more culturally sound than I actually am. I believed that I knew more about these cultures than I really did and was shocked to realize that I fed into some of the stereotypes. I knew that Asian Americans did well academically because their parents valued education and had them study more than their peers, however I did not realize that culturally boys were expected to succeed more academically than girls were. I believed that girls were equally held up to a standard as boys were. Watching the film clips related to Asians and Asian Americans was an eye opening experience. Just as African Americans are told that their natural hair is not good enough and it is internalized, it appears it is the same for many Asian Americans in relation to their eyes. The film clip about the young girl being taken to have plastic surgery on her eyes at the age of 12 because she felt that she would be more beautiful was a heart breaking scene to watch. It never occurred to me that a feature that is specific to that particular group would become something that has almost become shameful to a lot of people. Even following the Financial Crisis in 2008, the German economy was able to bounce back quicker than neighboring Eurozone states the source of German success points to a high export led growth economy with a competitive manufacturing sector, lower unemployment, balanced budget, and low costs to borrow. With most economic indicators pointing to strong future growth, it remains to be seen whether a spillover effect occurs to the rest of the EU. Despite a number of reforms, EU countries continue to suffer due to lack of global competitiveness.
