highly inter related. Agriculture is the most important sector of the economy, employing over 66
percent of the work force (UBoS, 2012). Approximately 80 percent of Uganda s population lives
in rural areas, and 66 percent are employed in agriculture. Agriculture accounts for 24.1 percent of
GDP and 51.9 percent of exports in 2010/11. Most of Uganda s agricultural sector consists of

In a time where women were considered inferior, The Grapes of Wrath uses secondary characters,
specifically Ma Joad, to demonstrate a woman taking charge in a family setting, and the

rights in different scenarios. Her relationships with Pa, her daughter Rose of Sharon, and even
herself all convey different elements of an extraordinary leader and an amazing mother.

Corp Etranger (1994) is a video piece made by Mona Hatoum which explores the artists body
with an endoscopic camera. The piece is composed of a cylindrical room with padded walls
where the viewer is invited to enter and view the video of Hatoum s internal body, displayed on
the floor of the room. Using Kristeva s strategy of abjection the internal cavities are magnified and
distorted into a grotesque monster that have the effect of swallowing up the viewer. The

Ethnographic studies can give insight into the way that stereotypes are seen and perceived in
the real world. Audrey Shalinsky defines ethnographic fieldwork as a scientific and artistic
approach to the description and analysis of cultural systems (Shalinsky, 968). I chose to do the
ethnographic interview as I wanted to learn about someone else s experiences and hear a
different point of view than my own. I interviewed one of my Cambodian friends who asked if
their name could be omitted for privacy purposes. He and I met at a Starbucks so that I could
conduct my interview in a relaxed setting where my interviewee would feel comfortable and
open to talk about his experiences as someone from Southeast Asian descent. Throughout my
interview, I asked him what stereotypes he has encountered and what stereotype he himself
projects onto others. He talked about how he goes about his day to day life and how that causes
him to be stereotyped in a certain way and the way that he makes assumptions about others based
on their lifestyles and appearances. I wanted to mainly focus on the ways that he has been
racially stereotyped, but I also wanted to be able to analyze any other stereotypes that people may
have developed towards him. Also, I asked him how other people stereotyping him affect him and
why he thinks that other people create and use stereotypes to define people that they do not know.

The use of cliffhangers between acts kept me intrigued the whole time wondering what was
next. There wasn t many times during the production where I was distracted into doing
something else or not paying attention. Out of all the intense moments during the dances, the
one that evoked the most emotion out of me was in the final act when the white man finally
faced the man in black. The story had seemed to build up to that most of the time and it seemed
inevitable. I was interested to see the color of the swans slowly shifting darker and darker as the
final act played out. I remember specifically wondering if the swans wanted to be turned into the
black swans, or if they were siding with the man in white. The fast paced ending and body
language of the dancers suggested the swans were happy with being saved from the man in
black, and that was evident as the production came to a close. This part of the story reminds me
of any general scenario when someone is being peer pressured. No one seems to speak up and the
consequences of everyone else drive the actions of the single person. None of the swans really had
control of being changed, but they certainly didn t fight it either. I believe this draws a valuable

Todd Burpo does a remarkable job translating, three year old, Colton s descriptions of his trip to
Heaven... and back.
Another positive I found while reading the book Heaven is for Real is that I could not put it
down. This was because chapters were short and they always left the reader at a cliff hanger.
Burpo did a outstanding job keeping the reader engaged and wanting more by somehow creating
cliffhangers after every chapter. Whether it was whether Colton was going to make it out of
surgery or mid conversation about Colton s still born sister, Burpo made it impossible to not start
the next chapter to find out the answer or details to the newest bomb Colton dropped on his parents.
While some may be completely convinced by the innocence of the book, many skeptics
(including myself) would say Heaven is for Real is to monotonous and predictable. All of Colton
s experiences follows a pattern. He tells his father little detail out of the blue. His father
experiences a gasp or feels his heart skip a beat. Then he quotes the bible with some piece of

This passage relates to the thematic topic of social classes. Nailer must come from an
underprivileged and poverty stricken social class. He is forced to work in small, dark spaces
surrounded with harmful asbestos and grime. Climbing through dark and unfamiliar ducts is
dangerous and terrifying, especially for a teenager like Nailer. Nobody should be performing
the difficult and risky job Nailer has. Nailer is being exposed to damaging and cancer causing
asbestos which might have adverse effects on his health. If he has to work in such an unsafe and
