Diversity Paper
Diversity Behavior is best defined as the unique behaviors, emotions and thought processes of an
individual including the way that he or she interacts with others. While much of behavior may be
thought to be innate, there are also external factors that can impact an individual s behavior. These
factors have diversity and demographic characteristics; four of these factors will be discussed in
this paper and the impact each has on individuals will be shown. Religion, personality traits, age
and gender are thought to have the greatest impacts and therefore providing the best opportunity for
discussion.
Religion
Since the beginning of documented history individuals have held strong to their religious beliefs

While these particular customs may not cause any major conflicts, those that practice them may
become the source of ridicule or even forced to live in separate communities where they can
practice freely.
Personality Traits Personality can be defined as patterns of a person s thoughts, feelings and
behaviors in various situations. In its most basic form personality is attitude, values and
interests. Personality traits can also be known as behavioral differences. Understanding and
appreciating the diverse personalities of others can help people to interact and know why one
person might act or respond in a certain way. This appreciation of personality diversity gives
respect to the quirks and differences of individuals therefore respecting these differences as
strengths. A person s personality traits develop for various reasons. These reasons can stem from
the interactions of an individual with the environment along with biological influences. These
environmental influences can be living during segregated times, being reared in a single parent
family along with living in a household with an income below the poverty level. Each of these
environmental influences could lead an individual to harbor negative feelings for those of other
races or feel a sense of longing to fit in. Having a group consisting of individuals from diverse
backgrounds working

Literature Review Performance Management and the Balanced...
Chapter 2
Literature Review
Since the Balanced Scorecard was developed in the 1990 s by Robert Kaplan and David Norton
(1992), it has gained in popularity amongst academics and practitioners. In 1990, Kaplan and
Norton led a research study of a lot of companies with the purpose of exploring the new methods of
performance management. The importance of the study was an increasing belief that the financial
measures of performance management were not as effective as before with the development of
modern business enterprise. Representatives involved in the study companies, including the
researchers Kaplan and Norton, were persuaded that the reliance on financial measures of
performance had an effect on their ability to create value. After ... Show more content on

2003). Similar to Speckbacher et al. (2003), this study examines the structure of the
BALANCED SCORECARD as a whole. This study is however, unique in that it addresses both
the structure and use of the BALANCED SCORECARD. Kaplan amp; Norton (1992; 1996;
2001), the originators of the balanced scorecard, emphasize that the inclusion of non financial
measures is just one aspect of the balanced scorecard, noting that there are several structural
attributes that make it unique from other frameworks, such as KPI (key performance indicator)
cards and stakeholder cards. Kaplan amp; Norton (1996, 2001) also suggest that its unique
structure allows it to be used as a strategic tool to steer organizations towards sustained long term
profitability. They argue that simply including non financial metrics in their performance
measurement system is not enough for organizations to learn, improve, and grow. If Kaplan and
Norton s argument is correct, then companies with different levels of BALANCED
SCORECARD adoption should see different results. This suggests a need to compare
organizations that have different levels or numbers of balanced scorecard attributes to see if there
are any differences. As well, academic studies may be more comparable if a clearly defined
Balanced Scorecard was used. A clearly defined BALANCED SCORECARD would enable
organizations and researchers to assess the level of BALANCED SCORECARD adoption which
may help to explain some of the differences in

Report Of A Portion Of Sorrento Lactalis, Inc. ( Lactalis )
INTRODUCTION
This memorandum presents the findings of a review of a portion of Sorrento Lactalis, Inc.
(Lactalis) s waste stream that may potentially be sent offsite for disposal during a temporary
shutdown of the cheese production facility s whey dryer. This memo is intended to identify
environmental risks associated with the hauling and disposal of sweet whey offsite.
BACKGROUND
Lactalis operates a whey dryer to manufacture dried whey protein from the by product (i.e. sweet
whey) generated from the cheese production process. Lactalis is planning to remove the whey
dryer from service for a period of up to six (6) months to accomplish repairs to the system, and is
considering disposal options for the whey during this downtime period.
Lactalis local counsel, Givens Pursley, LLP (Givens Pursley) intends to identify regulatory and
environmental risks associated with a three (3) to six (6) month shutdown of the whey dryer.
Givens Pursley will identify the regulatory risk, determine if there is a legal liability and see if
there is capacity for the whey to be absorbed by local facilities.
Forsgren Associates (Forsgren) conducted an analysis of the sweet whey to identify environmental
risks associated with a three (3) to six (6) month shutdown of the whey facility.
SWEET WHEY WASTE STREAM ANALYSIS
Whey is a by product of the cheese making process which represents 90% of the volume and 50%
of the solids of milk used in the manufacture of cheese. It is a very dilute

Twelfth Night Shame Quotes
Although Twelfth Night is renowned for its comical nature and cross dressing, on closer
examination it appears that Shakespeare has used this comedy to have a greater effect on the
audience than pure humour, supporting Berry s statement. However, before attesting that Berry is
entirely correct, we must evaluate three things: the way in which Shakespeare makes the audience
feel ashamed, whether this shameis felt by both contemporary audiences and Elizabethan/Jacobean
audiences, and whether shame is, as Berry writes the ultimate effect .
One of the ways in which Shakespeare could be seen to cast shame upon the audience is through
their reaction to the characters treatment of Malvolio. On receiving the letter, Malvolio expresses
I thank my stars I am happy (...) Jove and my stars be praised! (...) Jove I thank thee. I will smile, I
will do everything that thou wilt have me. (Act II, Scene V, lines... Show more content on

However, his statement Thou say thou art a man. (Act I, Scene V, line 30) Is short, blunt and
definite, proving that he is in fact oblivious to her deception. This is yet another example of
dramatic irony, as only the audience and Viola are aware of her true identity. This irony shows us
that Orsino has been outsmarted by a female, straying from the traditional patriarchal views of
women and consequentially reinforcing Dusinberre s critique of the text. In our modern society,
with this current new wave of feminism, this message is particularly relevant, and so would
arguably have a greater impact on an audience than the shame felt from Twelfth Night would. If it
is to have a greater effect, then it is superior to Shakespeare s evocation of shame, and thus feeling
ashamed cannot be the ultimate effect of Shakespeare s Twelfth

Graphic Design And Visual Arts
Graphic design and Visual arts are two different artistic fields. The field of Graphic design, which
is responsible for creating solutions that, has a high visual impact. The role involves listening to
clients and understanding their needs before making design decisions. Designs by graphic
designers are required for huge variety of products and activities, such as websites, advertising,
books, magazines, posters, computer games/video games, product packaging, exhibitions and
displays. Visual artson the other hand are art forms such as ceramic, drawing, painting, sculptures
and photography and architecture. The difference in visual arts and graphic designis that many
people do not think of graphic designers as being artist and they should only be referred to as
designers. Visual Arts People, argue that designing is a skill and art is a God given gift. Graphic
design majors are artist because it takes talent to do what they do; it takes hard work to create
complex graphics. They have to come up with a design by sketching it out. Then graphic
designers have to bring their art to life using the computer. Both visual artist and graphic
designers have a passion for art. They are both creative professions to pursue. Some people argue
that Visual Art people are more hands on with their work; they use a lot of physical ability to do
their art. Graphic designers use technology to do more of their art. They use objects such as
images, symbols, and words to complete

The Distinction of Social Classes in Sister Carrie by...
By the later part of the 1800 s New York and Chicago were some of the largest cities in the world
and both had populations that exceeded a million. With the growing population, the economy s
stability began to fluctuate. The instability within the states gave rise to two distinct populations
within America, the upper and the working classes. Theodore Dreiser, knowing the volatile state
America was built upon, highlighted the economic differences between the wealthy and the poor in
his novel Sister Carrie.
During the eighteenth century, America had transformed from a simple homestead into an ornate
country. Within the bustling empire, the wealthy were able to live lavish lifestyle that inspired the
idea of the American Dream. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The lowborn workers toiled away for hours in physically exhausting jobs only to afford
apartments that were sterile and cold. There were some nine cots in the place . . . he was sick of
the bareness and privation connected with his venture (Dreiser, 304). The pay affected the men
and woman s own mode of life. They were forced to share living spaces with other families and
more often than naught, had to bunk with complete strangers. The very comforts associated with a
home, such as wood and furniture, were often too large of an expense. Even with Governmental
/ Charity handouts the citizens had no money in which they could afford better living conditions.
The rooms they were given to stay in were cold and sterile, and they were not guaranteed a place
to stay every night. On the others side of the unbalanced American social scale, the rich were living
in superb houses and apartments that bespoke of wealth and comfort. In a weird turn of events, the
elite were given more charitable donations then the unemployed miserable lower class citizens.
Dreiser shows this when Carrie is offered a first class for a mere two dollars a day. The hotel would
ordinarily cost a hundred dollars a week, but Carrie was excused of the high prices, because of her
station in life (Dreiser, 331).
While charitable organizations were giving the poor shabby overly crowded rooms, the rich were

The Enlightenment Essay
Newton s publication of Principia Mathematica in 1677, as well as the Glorious Revolution, paved
the way for the beginning of the Age of Enlightenment. Promoting critical thinking about the world
and about humankind, the Enlightenment based itself primarily on scientific questioning and
empirical analysis. Scientists and philosophers of the eighteenth century questioned the traditional
ideas about the universe, society, and culture, and rejected the Aristotelian worldview, skeptical
because of its lack of verifiable evidence. Denouncing God as the creator of the universe inspired
the thinkers of the time to apply the newly founded scientific methodin discovering the origin of all
existence, leading to the scientific achievements of Copernicus,... Show more content on

The Enlightenment s secularized emphasis on rationality, rather than religion, fueled artists
renewed interests in classical antiquity, as the geometric harmony of classical art and architecture
seemed to embody Enlightenment ideals (Gardner 847). At the same time, the excavations of
Pompeii and Herculaneum in the mid eighteenth century turned men s thoughts to Antiquity
(Praeger 382). In 1764, Winkelmann wrote his well known History of Ancient Art, in which he
contrasted the noble simplicity and calm grandeur of Ancient Greece with the irresponsibility,
extravagance, and impertinent fire of the Baroque period (Cumming 250). During the French
Revolution, even Napoleon Bonaparte took advantage of the stylistic potentialities inherent in the
Classical Revival, and enhanced the effect to produce the so called Empirical style (Praeger 382).
Thus the Greek Revival became by infiltration the style of the Court (Praeger 382). Architects of
the Neoclassical period turned away from the theatricality and ostentation of Baroque and Rococo
design and instead embraced a more streamlined classicism by incorporating Romanesque themes
into works, such as blank walls except for a repeated garland motif near the top, columns, and
domes. One could say that the

Nhs-Market Failure
Topic Two: Market Failure
The healthcare system in Britain is predominantly paid for by the Government, and has done now
for a number of years, through taxes paid for by the public. In contract the United States, the
health care system is part of a free market economy. This means that when a member of the US
public is in need of health care, they must pay for it themselves, with no government help. For
example, Sloman (2007) gives a distinct definition to a free market economy, An economy where all
economic decisions are taken by individual households and firms with no government intervention

Under a free market, doctors are by contrary business people who are looking for a profit, and can
use the consumer s lack of knowledge of medicine, and sheer trust as they are a doctor, as a
platform to over charge buyers. Flower (2009) agrees that, Medicine is a matter of high skill and
enormous knowledge. So doctors, by necessity, act as sellers, and agents of other sellers
(hospitals, labs, pharmaceutical companies). Buyers must depend on the judgment of sellers as to
what is necessary, or even prudent. Many doctors in the US are giving rewards for selling more
products and in contrast giving fewer bonuses by not selling as many products. Surely selling more
drugs to patients will only give them more health problems. Within a command economy, health
care is not a business, and the correct drugs assumed truthfully by the doctor will be given to the
patient.
The only money going through the healthcare market in the US is the money being paid for
prescribed drugs by people who need treatment. Within a command economy everyone is paying a
tax to the government. What people in the this command economy who aren t using this treatment
don t realise is that their money is also going towards healthcare research which may find a cure
for something they contract twenty years down the line. It benefits society as a whole due to it

Three Witches In Macbeth
In the play of Macbeth, by William Shakespeare, Macbeth is confronted by Three Witches and his
wife, Lady Macbeth. It was said that the Three Witches could speak of the future and his wife knew
of this and thought of it as truth so, she influenced her husband to make them true. With the help of
the Three Witches and Lady Macbeth, Macbeth seeks out to make these prophecies come true and
some not. Because of the prophecies he commits murder (with the help of his wife) on several
occasions to fulfill or to prevent them. Through Macbeth, Shakespeare conveys the power of
suggestion using a supernatural entail, the influence of significant others, and how suggestion can

Hanukkah And St. Nicholas Day Summary
The residents of the annex use too much electricity and exceed their ration. Anne begins to feel
that Mr. Dussel is a strict disciplinarian and has too many opinions about etiquette. She writes that
it is very difficult being the badly brought up center of attention in a family of nitpickers.
Hanukkah and St. Nicholas Day come on almost the same day, so the annex holds two
celebrations. They light the Hanukkah candles for only ten minutes, since candles are in short
supply. For St. Nicholas Day, Father hides a basket filled with presents and a mask of Black
Peter in a cabinet. Mr. van Daan makes sausages to preserve the meat they have bought. Mr.
Dussel opens a pretend dental practice in the annex and comically attempts to fix Mrs. van Daan
s cavities. Anne tires of Mrs. van Daan s incessant complaints and is annoyed that Mr. Dussel
constantly tells her to be quiet at night but then wakes her up when he does his exercises at dawn.
Anne marvels at how diplomatic she has become while living in the annex. Mr. Kugler brings the
residents gravy packets to fill because he can find no one else to do the job. According to Anne,

King David Accomplishments
Introduction According to the New Living Translation (1996) King David lived halfway between
the lives of Abraham and Jesus, in addition to becoming one of the most important leaders for
Israel and a man after God s own heart ( 1 Samuel 13:14). David s place of birth was Bethlehem,
City of DavidJerusalem where he grew up as a shepherd, but he is better known for his youthful
triumph over Goliath, as well as being a poet, musician, soldier, and a king (Holy Bible, NLT,
1996). King David died at the age of seventy after ruling for forty years. King David wrestled
with sin, such as adultery, family disorder, and rebellion on a national level, however he also
experienced great accomplishments as well. One great achievement was the unification of Israel.
Then all the tribes of Israel went to David at Hebron and told him, We are all members of your
family. For a long time, even while Saulwas our King, you were the one who really led Israel. And
the Lord has told you, You will be the shepherd of my people Israel. You will be their leader (2
Samuel 5:3). It is here that David makes a covenant with the leaders and becomes anointed as the...

Menarche And Menopause
INTRODUCTION
Women who were the most dormant segment of the Indian population have now become active
participants in all aspects of life (Gyan, 2015). She bear s a special gift of bearing, rearing children.
The major concern in woman s life is reproductive health and they need enormous attention.
Menarche and menopause are the two important phase of the reproductive cycle. The menopause is
a time in women s life when the reproductive capacity ceases. In menopause, the post menopausal
stage is the time next to menopause and peri menopausal is the stage during which menopausal
changes occur (Pillitteri,1999).
In early menopausal transition, estrogen levels are generally normal or even slightly increased; the
level of follicle stimulating hormone begins to elevate but is generally in the normal range
(Deborah Grady, 2006). The women, in the transition to menopause, may experience vasomotor,
psychosomatic, urogenital, psychological symptoms, and increased the tendency to obesity, as well

giving the British control over Palestine. During the 1930s the Nazis gained power in Germany,
leading to big waves of Jewish immigration to Palestine, especially during times of Jewish
persecution between 1933 and 1945. This period was marked by Palestinian uprisings against
the British Mandate, and after the Second World War had commenced in 1939 also by Jewish
resistance to the British. In 1947, two years after the Nazis had been defeated and WWII had
ended, the British government handed the issue of the Palestinian future, which had seen Jewish
mass migration during and after the war, to the United Nations, which voted the partition of
Palestine into a Jewish and an Arab state. Despite Israeli attacks on Palestinian villages in early
1948, the British ended their mandate over Palestine on May 14th, now celebrated by Israelis as
Independence Day, by Palestinians lamented as Nakba (catastrophe). On May 15, the first Israeli
Arab war began, including several members of the Arab League. The following year over 700,000

Dissociative Disorder
Somatic and Dissociative Syndromes
Let us start by defining somatic symptom disorder, malingering, factitious disorder, and
dissociative disorders according to the DSM 5. A somatic symptom disorder is a disorder in which
persons become excessively distressed, concerned, and anxious, about bodily symptoms they are
experiencing. Malingering is intentionally faking to achieve some external gains, such as financial
compensation or military deferment. Factitious disorder is a disorder in which an individual feigns
or induces physical symptoms, typically for the purpose of assuming the role of a sick person. A
dissociative disorder is a disorder marked by major changes in memory that do not have clear
physical causes. Are all of these disorder legit? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is mental disorder where an individual overthinks about his/her symptoms. Thoughts are harder
to control than physical actions in my opinion and this is a disorder that is brought up because of
thoughts and emotions. When discussing conversion disorder, a disorder in which medically
unexplained bodily symptoms affect voluntary motor and sensory functions, the emotions that are
so hard to get rid of actually induce physical symptoms. Our mind and bodies are connected more
than we think and this disorder proves it. I find this disorder difficult to question is legitimacy
because the symptoms are real. Even though the doctors cannot find physical causes, they can find
physical proof of the disorder.
The last disorder to discuss is dissociative disorder. A dissociative disorder is similar to a conversion
disorder in that there are no physical reasons for the symptoms but the symptoms are real. Even
though clinicians cannot find physical causes, there must be something that happens with patients
of this disorder because most of the time the disorder appears more than once in patients. Whether
there is a small biological defective or a mental mishap, there is something that happens to patients
that makes them adopt the symptoms of this

The Journals Of Lewis And Clark
The Journals of Lewis and Clark Jeffrey Yamada Honors U.S History Mrs. Nylen 12/13/14 The
expedition that Lewis and Clark had been on was a trip to the Pacific or the west. The President
at the time was Thomas Jefferson and he wanted to explore and expand his country after
receiving Louisiana from the French. So Jefferson asked his personal secretary, whose name
was Meriwether Lewis to go on a journey along the Missouri River from St. Louis. Lewis.
Meriwether Lewis was born on August 18, 1774 in the colony of Virginia and he was an
explorer, soldier, and a public administrator. But Lewis did not just agree to the expedition he
wanted his best friend to come with him on the expedition and his name was William Clark.
William Clark was born on August 1, 1770 only four years younger than Lewis and he was also
from the colony of Virginia. He was explorer and a soldier as well as Lewis but he was a Indian
agent and a territorial governor. And when they decided to leave on their journey they had about
40 members in their group including a man by the name York. York was a slave that they brought
along on the trip for the hard and manual labor that they had to do on the expedition. Some of the
many task the Lewis and Clark had to do on their expedition that Jefferson had gave them were to
make a map route to the Pacific Ocean, examine all the Native Americans on their way to the
Pacific Ocean, study wildlife, plants, minerals, resources, and the geography of

In other words, some people refer to evil as sin and suffering; others think of it as a separation from
God while still more people personify it in the form of satan. My purpose here is not to discuss
what form evil may take in an individual s life even though it may come up periodically. The
central fact remains that evil, in one form or another, does exist and anyone not willing to
believe in this reality quite frankly lives in a different dimension. Either that, or they simply live
in a total state of denial! Keeping all this in mind, what I want to accomplish in this paper is to
first explore the idea that evil is a relative term that exists within the context of each situation.
Ah, yes! Even as I wrote that last sentence, I could see the wheels turning in your head. But not

answer these tough questions proposed on the first page, come to some more conclusions
through personal interviews and then end on a more personal note, using the help of my life
experience as a Christian. This topic hits me hard at times. I often find myself in reflection,
trying to formulate an answer to the evil that I see, and yes, the evil that I do. This evil will
sometimes leave me feeling totally powerless and at its mercy. Yet I never give up hope for I

I Was Very Excited To Begin My Internship At Paul Hastings,
I was very excited to begin my internship at Paul Hastings, as it was my first real experience in
corporate America. I ve had multiple internships before, but I never felt like I was pushed into a
better professional. Upon beginning this internship, I was looking forward to a challenge and that
is absolutely what I got.
Within my first month at Paul Hastings I had completed more work than I did at my last internship
which lasted six months. At Paul Hastings, all though my title was intern, I was a member of the
business development team. I learned quickly the work I was doing mattered and that it needed to be

I have not increased my attention to detail not only in my internship, but all aspects of my life and
am grateful for the stern, honest and constructive advice from my supervisor, that allowed me to
significantly improve a weakness of mine.
During my internship, I had the opportunity to work on a variety of projects. Most of my time was
spent using excel and PowerPoint which provided another opportunity for me to strengthen my
weaknesses. On excel I would conduct a lot of secondary research that pertained to the clients of
the firm. For example, Barclays, who is a huge client in Paul Hastings financial services market,
has over 700 people in relation to Paul Hastings. I went through an excel list of 700 contacts and
verified through Google and LinkedIn searches whether they were still with the company or
not. Most of my projects on excel were like this. Also on excel I managed the budget for the firm
and kept track of how much was spent on each client, and what clients had paid the firm for its
services. I tended to do well on budgeting projects and any projects involving excel and numbers.
Once I realized the type of projects I was doing poorly on I was able to identify why and began
making the necessary changes to improve my performance. Any task given to me that involved me
having to think and analyze I did very well on. The more mundane and mind numbing projects,
were the ones where I would miss multiple little things, which created a poor

Black Newspapers And The Holocaust
After researching newspaper articles covering the events of Kristallnacht, one question lingered:
How did black newspapers continue to cover the Holocaust? After finding limited articles
pertaining to the events of Kristallnacht, I was curious to see if more coverage would be dedicated
to the events that came after. I specifically wanted to look into African American newspapersof the
day in order to see how the African Americancommunity reacted to the atrocities. During this time
period many African Americans were facing persecution at home, so I figured they would
approach new of the Holocaust with a different outlook than the rest of Americans. For this paper I

Were they given ample amounts of space to tell the full story or were they only given two
paragraphs? These questions can help me understand how prioritized news of the Holocaust was in
the black newspapers. Another driving question I had was how did the newspapers approach each
story. Did they approach it as a simple news piece only displaying the facts or did they dedicate
space to give their opinions on the matter? If they gave their opinions, we could see how African
American journalists thought about the events, and more importantly, how they wanted others in
their community to feel about these events. Lastly I wanted to know how these newspapers related
these stories to the persecution they faced in America. Did they use this opportunity to shed light
on their own suffering? Did they use their own suffering to offer empathy to European Jews? Did
they use their own suffering to discredit the suffering the European Jews? Answering these
questions will be immensely helpful when determining how black newspapers covered the
Holocaust as it happened. They will also help me focus on certain areas when looking over primary
documents. During this time period there were many flourishing African American newspapers
across the country. I chose to pick four, the Chicago Defender, the Pittsburgh Courier, the
Philadelphia Tribune, and the Los Angeles Sentinel. These newspapers stretch from the East Coast

My Summer Vacation
My Summer in Chicago
I couldn t help but to feel anxious and excited. It was my first time being in such a vast city and I
couldn t wait to explore it. The time was near the end of July, this is when my dad usually enjoys
taking our summer vacations, primarily outside of our state to somewhere else new and exciting.
That summer my dad decided to take a week long road trip and visit, Wisconsin Dells, Chicago, St.
Louis, and Madison. My dad said he wanted to show my sisters and I all the adventures he did in
Chicago when he was my age. I had felt joyful about the trip, I could not wait to see all the
buildings and walk down the Navy Pier. To tell the truth, I was more excited to visit Chicago a
little more since it was such an extensive city and I had wanted to visit there ever since I was
younger.
A few days before the trip, my dad, my sister Nina, and I, had done some research and added up
the cost of the trip and looked for hotels and restaurants to visit during the time we were there
and on our road trip. After about an hour of research on Chicago, we had our plan of what to do
for our time in Chicago. That night, It was difficult to fall asleep, although I wasn t surprised I
usually didn t fall asleep right away before a vacation, I m usually too excited.
Morning soon came and my dad, my younger sister Niomi, my sister Nina, and I were all ready to

George S T Shirts Case Analysis Essay
Case Background
George Lassiter makes t shirts for special events such as concerts. The upcoming concert presents
another opportunity for George to make and sell t shirts; however the question is how many t shirts
to produce. There are two fundamental case questions that must be answered:
1. What are the possible financial outcomes if Lassiter orders 5,000 T shirts? 7,500? 10,000?
As shown in the Exhibit, a rather simple but detailed decision tree has been made which represents
the various options for George. The financial outcomes for the three different amounts of t shirts
that he can provide are presented in tabular form, in the Appendix. Table 1 shows profit outcomes
for ordering 5000 shirts, Table 2 shows profit outcomes for... Show more content on

Thus, there is no actual guarantee or scenario where George would earn exactly $26,574; it is
simply the weighted average of profits and their likelihoods, if he had to make this decision a
large number of times. Furthermore, the EMV for Order 10,000 shirts was $26,574; this was
quite close to the EMV for Order 7500 shirts , which was $24,181. Added to this, the payoffs for
George from choosing the different alternatives vary, and there are possibilities for George making
a loss. EMV is not a very accurate measure for George in this scenario and hence, a thorough risk
analysis was conducted.
The risk analysis immediately eliminates the Order 15,000 shirts option (as did the EMV criteria)
because there is a 33% chance that George makes a loss with this option. This is a highly risky
option, with a high probability of loss, but at the same time, offers much higher payoffs. Due to
George s conservative nature in the past, we can safely say that he should not consider producing
15,000 t shirts for the concert.
Having eliminated completely the option for producing 15,000 shirts, the analysis now focuses
on the remaining three options that were available to us at the beginning. With the option of
producing 10,000 shirts, the probability of making at least a profit of $6791 is 6%. Similarly, there
is also a 6% probability of making a loss of $3458. On the other end of the spectrum, there is a

Topic: Space Debris
As Earth becomes more technologically innovated and crowded, space has become the answer of
many of our problems. Over the past couple of decades, we have launched numerous contraptions
into space such as satellites in which many currently orbit the Earth. These contraptions can be
used for reconnaissance, communications, weather, search and rescue, navigation, exploration,
television, and much more. Not a day passes by where we do not make use of these contraptions
in our lives. However, as we progress towards the future, more and more of these satellites will be
launched into orbit and as the fate of technology, they are bound to fail at some point and often get
abandoned. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite the rapidly increasing amount of space junk, planning of the clean up of this junk is
underway.
Every year, the amount of debris orbiting the Earth grows, creating an increasingly hazardous
zone for satellites and even astronauts. Although some objects or shrapnel look small, their
destructive force is greatly magnified by the hostile conditions of space. According to NASA,
pieces as small as softballs can be traveling at an astonishing 17,500 miles per hour. Due to these
enormous orbital speeds, any of these objects have the potential to damage or destroy the satellites
that we depend on. In fact, even a tiny paint fleck has caused enough damage to the windshields of
spacecraft that the windows had to be replaced (Space Debris and Human Spacecraft). In addition
to damaged windows, images show that even objects less than half an inch in diameter can
puncture through the structure of the space shuttle Endeavour (Trouble in orbit: the growing
problem of space junk). The fact that such puny pieces of junk can cause such severe damage
upon space shuttles suggests that spacecraft are mere inflated balloons to space due to the high
velocities objects are travelling. This only makes situations worse for humans as there is no really

Persuasive Essay On Being An Adult
When do you actually become an adult? There are legal terms that qualify someone as an adult, but
that doesn t necessarily mean that they act like one. I think being an adult means, being able to
support yourself; as in having a steady paying job, and most importantly being accountable to
yourself. Being able to make your own decisions without asking a parentor model figure first, is an
example of having an identity status of a moratorium. One with this type of mindset as a young
adult, will weigh their options and consider their values and what they believe themselves, whether
it s their own thoughtbranched off of their parents guidance, or it is completely their own ideaand
they explore to see what their views are. On the other hand, for some, they rely on their parents
approval, they may have an idea or opinion about a topic, but they will ask a parent or model
figure in their life to seek guidance. The young adult wants the security of having the approval of a
decision and being told what to do and pointed what direction to go towards. This is essentially
making the decision for them. This type of identity status if called foreclosure.
At a very young age, I was given the responsibility to take care of my youngest sister after school.
I had to help her with her homework, make dinner for us both and put her to bed some days; and
on top of that do my own homework and get my chores done. Both of my parents worked full time

The term surfaced in he world of design journalism in the mid 1980 s, questioning the place of

Derrida introduced the concept of deconstruction in the Book of Grammatology, published in France

The Safety Of Carrying A Concealed Weapon
Protect Our Children
Too many young adults these days have access to a firearm. Wanting to feel safe no matter the
situation is natural. With how cheap you can purchase a firearm for now a days; too many people
are carrying them. It s almost impossible to keep those that shouldn t have a gun away from them.
Young adults should not have the right to conceal carry their firearm on campus because they are
not mature enough to handle the responsibility that comes with carrying.
The debate of carrying a concealed weapon has been a headline in the news for the past few
years now. So many young adults are getting their concealed carry permit now a days. The steps
in purchasing a firearm are very simple and easy. All one has to do is pay $8 to their local NC
Sheriffs department and after a quick background check, they will be granted a purchase permit.
With the purchase permit all they have to do is go into their local gun store and they can purchase
a handgun, shotgun, or even a semi automatic assault rifle. This makes is to easy for young kids to
get their hands on a weapon.
To carry a concealed weapon in NC, all one has to do is pay for a CCW class and spend eight
hours in the class room. The instructor will then issue you a completion certificate; pay $80 to the
Sheriffs Department and they will approve one for the concealed carry permit. This will now allow
anyone to carry their weapon anywhere they want. With few restrictions such as, government

it is about football and takes place in England. Jesminder is a Sikh, Indian girl from a very

That is so weird! And without their knowledge of my sexuality, quite often people assumed I
was a lesbian because I played football. Without knowing any axes of my life, I was
automatically put in a lower position, just because I am a girl who played football. This also is
seen in the movie. Jules has short hair, wears baggy clothes and plays football, and her mother
overhears a conversation between Jules and Jess about love, but she misinterprets it and thinks
Jules is gay. The mother is very upset about her daughter being gay and when Jules tells she is
not gay, the mother is very relieved and then says there is nothing wrong with being gay. Even
though she says that, she is still happy her own daughter is in fact not a lesbian. This shows
certain stereotypes towards girls that play football, have short hair and wear baggy clothes.
Football is such a gendered sport that it automatically leads to sexism, thinking girls who play
football must be lesbian because they play a men s sport. Lesbianism is also seen as something
less good than being straight, seeing the mother is relieved her daughter is not a lesbian. The
coach of the team, a young, straight white man is ashamed to be the coach of a girl s team. He had
to stop playing football due to an injury, and he wanted to do something with football. He ended up

Malcolm Gladwell s Power Of Context
For the most part humans are all born in the same fashion, they have opposable thumbs, a pair of
hands, a pair of legs, a brain, and a heart. Looks can be deceiving however, not all infants are
created equal. Statistically speaking, the overwhelming majority of the seven billion humans on
earth will pass away as a member of the same socioeconomic class they began. In fact, society
predicates itself on living a better life than their family who came before. Society takes part in a
never ending race to further itself on a socioeconomic level from the generation before knowing
full well that the majority will not achieve such goal. That in itself is a testament to how difficult
the task of altering identity is. Malcolm Gladwells Power of Context echoes many of the same
progressive principles preached in the early twentieth century, he believes external factors such as
the aspects of environment are the greatest determinants of identity. Barbara Fredrickson argues in
her book Love2.0, that change comes from within. Frederickson believes that biochemical
alterations of the humanbody can occur by increasing loving potential (119). An increase of such
potential has a profoundly positive impact on human health . As nice as it may sound Fredrickson
s theory leaves her readers with far more questions than answers and in fact plays more into the
hands of Gladwell s power of context . Fredrickson offers vague descriptions and uses contradictory

Lufthansa
In January 1985, a German company that uses Deutschmarks made a large purchase from a U.S.
company that uses U.S. dollars, and needed to evaluate the best hedging alternatives to secure the
least possible cost. The Chairman of Lufthansa, Herr Heinz Ruhnau, purchased twenty 737 jets
from Boeing. The total purchase price was $500,000,000, which was payable in U.S. dollars on
delivery of the aircrafts in one year.
Chairman Ruhnau chose a partial cover by hedging 50% of the exposure with forward contracts,
which was $250 million at the one year forward rate of DM3.2/$. He left the remaining 50% ($250

Scenario 3: The U.S. dollar may decrease
Even though Ruhnau and many others expected the U.S. dollar to decrease, there was no way of
knowing with absolute certainty that would come to fruition and how much it would actually fall.
Ruhnau needed to make a decision with the information he had.
Forecasting
There are various forecasting techniques, which include the Efficient Markets Approach, the
Fundamental Approach, and the Technical Approach. Even if Ruhnau researched and followed
these methods, they would still not predict with certainty the future U.S. dollar rate. They would
either confirm or counter his expectations and he would need to make a decision without being able
to accurately predict the future exchange rate. There are also other factors that could dramatically
affect the U.S. dollar or German Deutschmark, such as unexpected events which could make
significant impacts in appreciation or depreciation.
Necessity, Timing, and Purchase Price
In the 1980 s, Lufthansa increased the number of non stop connections and more dense route

The outcome of the actions of these warriors is battle and bloodshed as the way to achieve this
glory. Achilles is the main war hero in the poem. He is passionate, enraged, and vain. The temper
Achilles possesses causes the atrocious actions he commits. As courageous as he was, he was
unable at first to grasp the concept of pure character. After his actions and their consequences
become clear, he begins to understand the meaning of ones true self. This gives Achilles a
purpose: to chose between life and dignity. Hector is known for being the most courageous
warrior of all Troy. He is the Trojan warrior that seizes the need for battle. In the poem he
becomes Achilles enemy after the death of Patroklos (Homer Book 16). Hector does not
compare to Achilles other than his need for honor. Both of these men are fighting for not only
their glory, but for their people as well. Social status was the major concept of the Greek society.
This is around the time that we would call The Homeric Society. The Homeric Society was a

Burmese Pythons Problems
Burmese pythons are an invading species that are causing problems to the local animal
population, the local ecosystems, and the people in the area of Florida s Everglades. These
snakes are one of the biggest snakes in the world and grow up to be twenty three feet long and
weigh up to two hundred pounds. They are able to hunt in the dark due to the chemical receptors
on their tongues and heat sensors all over their jaw. This is bad for humans, as we cannot see very
well in the dark. This can cause the snake to see us, but us not be able to see them. Without natural
predators, these animals are lean, mean killing machines that can destroy many populations of
animals and stand as a threat to humans.
An invasive species is a species that comes out of its natural environment, and enters another. These
animals are usually very bad for the ecosystem and may cause an unbalance. These animals usually
come in with many competitive advantages and can easily dominate any competition. This will
give them the ability to eat as much as they would like without being threatened in any way. This

These Burmese Pythons cause problems to three main elements. One main problem that the
Burmese Pythons are causing is a decrease in the local animal populations. These animals have not

I think that these pythons are causing many problems and if we do not remove them from the
ecosystem soon, they might cause permanent damage. I think that if we need to step in to stop this

minute. If we wait any longer, the entire Florida ecosystem may no longer

How Does Voltaire Present The Roll Of Society And Class In...
Throughout Voltaire s Candide many new ideas that were not often presented at the time were
shown. Candide was often seen as Voltaire s way of being critical of the social institutions during
the enlightenment. Voltaire shows this through Candide s viewpoints and actions. Voltaire explores
the roll of society and class while reflecting on human nature and our inability to support our own
beliefs due to societal pressures. Throughout the story, Pangloss is often used to represent the idea
of a paternal optimism and his actions are often exaggerated to show Voltaires point that the upper
class can t be correct in assuming that everything is for the best if people are suffering and dying.
If the world was the best of all worlds then these situations would... Show more content on

Pangloss is meant to represent the upper class society then Voltaire s opinion of upper class
society is also shown frequently through the imagery of Pangloss s clothing, making him appear as
a dark shadowy figure who is deceiving Candide. This makes it appear that Voltaire, although
trying to maintain a story that appears to not outright attack the ideas he is trying to point at the
absurdity of the whole idea. For example in the story when the characters are first introduced
and Pangloss is explaining to Candide that everything happens for a reason, he says The nose is
formed for spectacles (pg.12). This idea that noses were created just so people could where
glasses points at Voltaire s view that the idea that everything was made to do what is doing at the
moment. Through this use of something as simple as a nose he also points to the fact that if
something even as simple as a nose is exaggerated then upper

Varying Habits In Catcher In The Rye
Malnutrition occurs when people refuse to eat or have lost their appetite while lack of sleep
comes from the brain being overstimulated before bedtime. Holden Caulfield from The Catcher
in the Rye shows symptoms of both these health risks. He is unable to sleep when he tries to and
he avoids eating for hours on end. Holden as a teenager, should be getting a significant amount
of sleep and he should be eating a certain amount of food but he isn t getting the nutrients or sleep
his body requires. Holden s sleeping habits are not healthy for his age. While reading about
Holden, there is a realization that his emotional problems are what leads him to possible physical
problems. Holden tells the reader that he didn t sleep for too long right after... Show more content

Holden depends on alcohol and cigarettes. According to A Teenagers Nutritional Needs,
Adolescents are hungry all the time... especially boys. As Holden is an adolescent he should be
eating most of the time but he doesn t. Holden mentions that he was supposed to be on a diet
consisting of starches to gain weight but he isn t on the diet (Salinger 107). Since teenagers
require more energy than adults they are encouraged to eat starch, Holden just depends on
alcohol. He doesn t eat healthily and he is on the road to self destruction due to his overuse of
alcohol. He s been in New York for quite some time now, but it is hardly stated that he eats,
Holden drinks and smokes more than he eats food. Holden should be more aware of his health.
He knows that he should be on a diet, he acknowledges that he is skinny (Salinger 107) but yet
he refuses to eat. His decision to survive on alcohol may cost him his life if he isn t careful. He
might collapse from the lack of nutrients in the body with no one around to make certain that he
is okay. Holden is depressed due to past encounters he s had and his depression causes him to lose
his appetite which leads to bad decision making. Should Holden continues farther down this road to
self destruction, it will be difficult to get him back which will lead to his ultimate

Christopher Columbus Day Analysis
In 1492, Columbus sailed the ocean blue. That is the rhyme that many of us probably memorized
when first learning about Christopher Columbus as children. Of course, as kids, we wouldn t have
understood all of the events that occurred because of Christopher Columbus, only being able to
maintain the idea that he discovered America, later to grow up and be hit with the realization of the
fact that more happened than we were initially taught. Christopher Columbus, as we later learned,
did not discover America. The America s Native people were the Native Americans, hence their
name. As we grew a little older and started to reach our teen years, we would learn about how
Christopher Columbus took the natives as slaves, creating a system in which gold would be
collected for Columbus and Spain s profit, and several brutalities would be committed if orders
were not obeyed or... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, if you analyze the given information, there s missing narrative of the story. The first
quote, fails to mention that for all of Columbus s life, he didn t know he was in the Bahamas, he
believed he had found Asia, and came upon the Indian people, which is where the term Indian for
native Americans came from. Secondly, the second quote, discusses in a rather discreet way how
Columbus changed the course of history. This is true, he began slavery and colonization, which
were both huge periods of time in history. The quote attempts to use the logic that if someone
changes history, they become a good man or woman, however completely disregarding the history
the figure made, dark or not. This, is what Columbus day does, as stated in the first paragraph,
celebrating the rights and victories, and overlooking the wrongs and bloodshed. The following
quote is an example of disregarded violence done by Columbus and his

Historical Leader Synthesis Essay On Sir Winston Churchill
Historical Leader Synthesis Essay on Sir Winston Churchill
Soaked in sweat, I ran to the library to get a book on a historical leader before they were all gone.
I would like to think I found a great leader, but I think one found me. As I was reading a book on
great leaders of World War II, I initially focused on American leaders, but Sir Winston S.
Churchill seemed fit my exact requirements. Sir Winston S. Churchill was a Visionary and
Ethical Leader. In the following pages, I will explain how Winston was a visionary leader and
how he used Inspirational Motivation and global diversity to gain advantage during World War II. I
will also explain how he critically thought through a gut wrenching decision by using Dr. Toner s
three Ps in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Harmon s (1991) article, he details a scene where Sir Winston Churchill is sitting around the
strategy table, debating the benefits of area bombing. Area bombing is a tactic where an area is
indiscriminately bombed, regardless of military objective. During the meeting Winston stood up
and proclaimed, Are we beasts, are we taking this too far (Harmon, 1991, p. 3). LM03, Ethical
Leadership, discusses Dr. Toner s three P s, which are principle, purpose, and people (DAF, 2014c,
p. 7). To me, Winston Churchill put the three P s in the correct order when he decided to
commence area bombings. He put the principle of freedom and justice before the purpose of
winning the war and finally, he put the people in their proper place of third. Had he not made
this decision, who knows how many more would have died. The air raids killed innocent women
and children, but many others today enjoy freedom and liberty because of this decision. The war
continued and as the German people became war weary, ended in 1945 due, in part, to Churchill
s proper use of the three P s. Making a decision like this takes guts, resolve, and most importantly
an ability to see the second and third order effects. Winston Churchill would not have made the
decision to area bomb had he not known that its effect on the German people would cause them
to lose their will to fight, therefore limiting the endless supply of troops Hitler seemed to be able
to acquire. This, to me, is why Course 14 intertwined the critical thinking and ethical leadership
modules. On Facione s scoring rubric from CF03, Critical Thinking, I would definitely have given
Winston s decision to use area bombing a 4 out of 4 (DAF, 2014b, p. 24). In the strategy brief, he
interpreted the evidence

Disadvantages Of Megacities
Overview
Cities exist because of the benefits of centralized production and exchange. By living and working
in cities, we achieve a higher standard of living but also put up with pollution, noise and
congestion. (O Sullivan, 2012)
Megacities are large and highly dynamic systems, and represent concentrated sites of human life as
well as ecological stress and pollution. Due to the combination of pollution and stress as
neighbourhoods grow in size and their resource capacity, the transformation in social environmental
relations is also observed. Over time more local environmental hazards associated with inadequate
services and sanitation is being replaced by risks that accrue at the city scale. Most megacities are
important nodes in the production of pollution and greenhouse emissions which have negative
impacts on populations at regional and also global scales. Historically coastal megacities have
recorded some of the highest economic losses due to disaster events but megacities are also the
centres of capacity, ingenuity and resources. The management of hazards, vulnerability and
environmental management in megacities is very complex, and governance responses require
special attention to the multiple scales of impact. (Mark Pelling, 2013)
Cities around the world are growing at a never experienced rate. Over the past thirty years the
number of people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Automobiles contribution is reported to account for 40 to 80% of the total air pollution in
megacities. The challenge Megacities face is how to reduce the adverse environmental impacts and
other negative effects of transportation without giving up the benefits of mobility. This becomes
more pressing under conditions of rapid urban growth, which is likely to increase travel demand
significantly. (S. K. Goyal,

The Gameplay Of The Xbox One
The Xbox One The Xbox One being the main competitor of the PS4 was launched in 2013, the
consoles introductory price was ВЈ429 which was much more that the PS4, the console once again
include Xbox Live and has sold around 3 million units as of 2013, with 10 million units being
shipped over, the console increased the emphasis on cloud computing and the integration of
entertainment applications and services, they did this by offering players the ability to overlay
live television programs for an existing box set and essentially use the console as a TV system
as well as a gaming system. Personal Computers PC s currently have the most optimized gaming
platforms to date, the hardware of which is made commonly by third party companies and can
be integrated to then develop a computer to its best performance. In turn this allows the PC to
reach higher frame rates than an ordinary console can achieve, and also produces better graphics
and other visuals. PC s include a very unique hardware development for example the CPU s,
Memory size and the GPU s are a lot more advanced than standard consoles. One of the main
limitations that Personal Computers have is the sheer price of the parts, PC s are expensive, and
with the ability to constantly upgrade your system you can spend up to ВЈ2000 on a gaming pc
with high spec hardware, another issue is that PC s are not very portable due to the size of the
overall system such as, the tower, the monitors, the keyboard and mouse and all of the

Solutions-Focused Therapy Essay
Solutions focused therapy is a relatively new and welcomed therapy developed by Steve de Shazer
and his wife Insoo Kim Berg, in 1979 at their institute, the Brief Family Therapy Center in
Milwaukee, Wisconsin (Guterman, 2010, p. 350). Shazer was interested in how to influence change
(Nichols, 2008, p. 346). Solution focused therapy deals in solutions as opposed to dwelling on
problems. Increasingly stringent budgeting constraints emphasize the need to develop shorter and
more focused therapy sessions without sacrificing successful outcomes (Nichols, 2008). The
drawback to solution focused therapy would be that for those not experienced, therapists may be
unable to decipher what real underlying issues are involved (Guterman, 2010).... Show more content

Clients in working with their therapists learn to rethink their situations. They learn to look at
their life as the glass half full, instead of almost empty. Showing clients how to spot the flowers
in a sea of weeds enables them to face adversity or misfortune with an attitude of, yes, that was a
bad hit, but how do we move on from here? Where do I want to go tomorrow? How am I going to
get there? Solutions focused therapy enables a client to multiply a smidgen of courage into
enough to conquer a problem. Assisting clients to re set their thinking stays with clients long
after the therapy session has ended, and is another excellent benefit of solutions focused therapy.
Not surprisingly, Iveson (2002) found that solutions focused therapy was effective in a severe
phobia case, while he was working with a client experiencing agoraphobia. According to the
Mayo Clinic ( 2009) agoraphobia can severely limit your ability to socialize, work, attend
important events and even manage the details of daily life, such as running errands (para. 1). In
working with his client, Iveson discovered that the client did go up and down stairs in her home
that ran right beside the front door. Some days, the client had to sit on the top step and talk herself
into making the descent, but after time had passed, she could make the trip down and back up.
Once the client had remembered what she was able to do, Iveson concentrated on that success,
which was then followed by

  • 2. Diversity Paper Diversity Behavior is best defined as the unique behaviors, emotions and thought processes of an individual including the way that he or she interacts with others. While much of behavior may be thought to be innate, there are also external factors that can impact an individual s behavior. These factors have diversity and demographic characteristics; four of these factors will be discussed in this paper and the impact each has on individuals will be shown. Religion, personality traits, age and gender are thought to have the greatest impacts and therefore providing the best opportunity for discussion. Personality traits can also be known as behavioral differences. Understanding and appreciating the diverse personalities of others can help people to interact and know why one person might act or respond in a certain way. This appreciation of personality diversity gives respect to the quirks and differences of individuals therefore respecting these differences as strengths. A person s personality traits develop for various reasons. These reasons can stem from the interactions of an individual with the environment along with biological influences. These environmental influences can be living during segregated times, being reared in a single parent family along with living in a household with an income below the poverty level. Each of these environmental influences could lead an individual to harbor negative feelings for those of other races or feel a sense of longing to fit in. • 3. Literature Review Performance Management and the Balanced... Chapter 2 Literature Review Since the Balanced Scorecard was developed in the 1990 s by Robert Kaplan and David Norton (1992), it has gained in popularity amongst academics and practitioners. In 1990, Kaplan and Norton led a research study of a lot of companies with the purpose of exploring the new methods of performance management. This study is however, unique in that it addresses both the structure and use of the BALANCED SCORECARD. Kaplan amp; Norton (1992; 1996; 2001), the originators of the balanced scorecard, emphasize that the inclusion of non financial measures is just one aspect of the balanced scorecard, noting that there are several structural attributes that make it unique from other frameworks, such as KPI (key performance indicator) cards and stakeholder cards. Kaplan amp; Norton (1996, 2001) also suggest that its unique structure allows it to be used as a strategic tool to steer organizations towards sustained long term profitability. They argue that simply including non financial metrics in their performance measurement system is not enough for organizations to learn, improve, and grow. If Kaplan and Norton s argument is correct, then companies with different levels of BALANCED SCORECARD adoption should see different results. This suggests a need to compare organizations that have different levels or numbers of balanced scorecard attributes to see if there are any differences. As well, academic studies may be more comparable if a clearly defined Balanced Scorecard was used. A clearly defined BALANCED SCORECARD would enable organizations and researchers to assess the level of BALANCED SCORECARD adoption which may help to explain some of the differences in ... (Lactalis) s waste stream that may potentially be sent offsite for disposal during a temporary shutdown of the cheese production facility s whey dryer. This memo is intended to identify environmental risks associated with the hauling and disposal of sweet whey offsite. BACKGROUND Lactalis operates a whey dryer to manufacture dried whey protein from the by product (i.e. sweet whey) generated from the cheese production process. Lactalis is planning to remove the whey dryer from service for a period of up to six (6) months to accomplish repairs to the system, and is considering disposal options for the whey during this downtime period. Lactalis local counsel, Givens Pursley, LLP (Givens Pursley) intends to identify regulatory and environmental risks associated with a three (3) to six (6) month shutdown of the whey dryer. Givens Pursley will identify the regulatory risk, determine if there is a legal liability and see if there is capacity for the whey to be absorbed by local facilities. Forsgren Associates (Forsgren) conducted an analysis of the sweet whey to identify environmental risks associated with a three (3) to six (6) month shutdown of the whey facility. • 5. Twelfth Night Shame Quotes Although Twelfth Night is renowned for its comical nature and cross dressing, on closer examination it appears that Shakespeare has used this comedy to have a greater effect on the audience than pure humour, supporting Berry s statement. However, before attesting that Berry is entirely correct, we must evaluate three things: the way in which Shakespeare makes the audience feel ashamed, whether this shameis felt by both contemporary audiences and Elizabethan/Jacobean audiences, and whether shame is, as Berry writes the ultimate effect . One of the ways in which Shakespeare could be seen to cast shame upon the audience is through their reaction to the characters treatment of Malvolio. On receiving the letter, Malvolio expresses I thank my stars I am happy (...) Jove and my stars be praised! (...) Jove I thank thee. I will smile, I will do everything that thou wilt have me. (Act I, Scene V, line 30) Is short, blunt and definite, proving that he is in fact oblivious to her deception. This is yet another example of dramatic irony, as only the audience and Viola are aware of her true identity. This irony shows us that Orsino has been outsmarted by a female, straying from the traditional patriarchal views of women and consequentially reinforcing Dusinberre s critique of the text. In our modern society, with this current new wave of feminism, this message is particularly relevant, and so would arguably have a greater impact on an audience than the shame felt from Twelfth Night would. If it is to have a greater effect, then it is superior to Shakespeare s evocation of shame, and thus feeling ashamed cannot be the ultimate effect of Shakespeare s Twelfth ... Visual artson the other hand are art forms such as ceramic, drawing, painting, sculptures and photography and architecture. The difference in visual arts and graphic designis that many people do not think of graphic designers as being artist and they should only be referred to as designers. Visual Arts People, argue that designing is a skill and art is a God given gift. Graphic design majors are artist because it takes talent to do what they do; it takes hard work to create complex graphics. They have to come up with a design by sketching it out. By the later part of the 1800 s New York and Chicago were some of the largest cities in the world and both had populations that exceeded a million. With the growing population, the economy s stability began to fluctuate. The instability within the states gave rise to two distinct populations within America, the upper and the working classes. Theodore Dreiser, knowing the volatile state America was built upon, highlighted the economic differences between the wealthy and the poor in his novel Sister Carrie. Promoting critical thinking about the world and about humankind, the Enlightenment based itself primarily on scientific questioning and empirical analysis. Scientists and philosophers of the eighteenth century questioned the traditional ideas about the universe, society, and culture, and rejected the Aristotelian worldview, skeptical because of its lack of verifiable evidence. The Enlightenment s secularized emphasis on rationality, rather than religion, fueled artists renewed interests in classical antiquity, as the geometric harmony of classical art and architecture seemed to embody Enlightenment ideals (Gardner 847). At the same time, the excavations of Pompeii and Herculaneum in the mid eighteenth century turned men s thoughts to Antiquity (Praeger 382). In 1764, Winkelmann wrote his well known History of Ancient Art, in which he contrasted the noble simplicity and calm grandeur of Ancient Greece with the irresponsibility, extravagance, and impertinent fire of the Baroque period (Cumming 250). During the French Revolution, even Napoleon Bonaparte took advantage of the stylistic potentialities inherent in the Classical Revival, and enhanced the effect to produce the so called Empirical style (Praeger 382). Thus the Greek Revival became by infiltration the style of the Court (Praeger 382). Architects of the Neoclassical period turned away from the theatricality and ostentation of Baroque and Rococo design and instead embraced a more streamlined classicism by incorporating Romanesque themes into works, such as blank walls except for a repeated garland motif near the top, columns, and domes. • 23. The Journals Of Lewis And Clark The Journals of Lewis and Clark Jeffrey Yamada Honors U.S History Mrs. Nylen 12/13/14 The expedition that Lewis and Clark had been on was a trip to the Pacific or the west. The President at the time was Thomas Jefferson and he wanted to explore and expand his country after receiving Louisiana from the French. So Jefferson asked his personal secretary, whose name was Meriwether Lewis to go on a journey along the Missouri River from St. Louis. Lewis. Meriwether Lewis was born on August 18, 1774 in the colony of Virginia and he was an explorer, soldier, and a public administrator. But Lewis did not just agree to the expedition he wanted his best friend to come with him on the expedition and his name was William Clark. William Clark was born on August 1, 1770 only four years younger than Lewis and he was also from the colony of Virginia. He was explorer and a soldier as well as Lewis but he was a Indian agent and a territorial governor. And when they decided to leave on their journey they had about 40 members in their group including a man by the name York. York was a slave that they brought along on the trip for the hard and manual labor that they had to do on the expedition. Some of the many task the Lewis and Clark had to do on their expedition that Jefferson had gave them were to make a map route to the Pacific Ocean, examine all the Native Americans on their way to the Pacific Ocean, study wildlife, plants, minerals, resources, and the geography of ... In other words, some people refer to evil as sin and suffering; others think of it as a separation from God while still more people personify it in the form of satan. My purpose here is not to discuss what form evil may take in an individual s life even though it may come up periodically. The central fact remains that evil, in one form or another, does exist and anyone not willing to believe in this reality quite frankly lives in a different dimension. Either that, or they simply live in a total state of denial! Keeping all this in mind, what I want to accomplish in this paper is to first explore the idea that evil is a relative term that exists within the context of each situation. Ah, yes! Even as I wrote that last sentence, I could see the wheels turning in your head. But not to worry. I will clarify soon. From this point, I will seek the wisdom of people who have tried to answer these tough questions proposed on the first page, come to some more conclusions through personal interviews and then end on a more personal note, using the help of my life experience as a Christian. This topic hits me hard at times. I often find myself in reflection, trying to formulate an answer to the evil that I see, and yes, the evil that I do. This evil will sometimes leave me feeling totally powerless and at its mercy. Yet I never give up hope for I know that just through the process of writing this paper, some new insights will be ... During my internship, I had the opportunity to work on a variety of projects. Most of my time was spent using excel and PowerPoint which provided another opportunity for me to strengthen my weaknesses. On excel I would conduct a lot of secondary research that pertained to the clients of the firm. For example, Barclays, who is a huge client in Paul Hastings financial services market, has over 700 people in relation to Paul Hastings. I went through an excel list of 700 contacts and verified through Google and LinkedIn searches whether they were still with the company or not. Most of my projects on excel were like this. Also on excel I managed the budget for the firm and kept track of how much was spent on each client, and what clients had paid the firm for its services. I tended to do well on budgeting projects and any projects involving excel and numbers. Once I realized the type of projects I was doing poorly on I was able to identify why and began making the necessary changes to improve my performance. These questions can help me understand how prioritized news of the Holocaust was in the black newspapers. Another driving question I had was how did the newspapers approach each story. Did they approach it as a simple news piece only displaying the facts or did they dedicate space to give their opinions on the matter? If they gave their opinions, we could see how African American journalists thought about the events, and more importantly, how they wanted others in their community to feel about these events. Lastly I wanted to know how these newspapers related these stories to the persecution they faced in America. Did they use this opportunity to shed light on their own suffering? Did they use their own suffering to offer empathy to European Jews? Did they use their own suffering to discredit the suffering the European Jews? Answering these questions will be immensely helpful when determining how black newspapers covered the Holocaust as it happened. They will also help me focus on certain areas when looking over primary documents. During this time period there were many flourishing African American newspapers across the country. • 28. George S T Shirts Case Analysis Essay Case Background George Lassiter makes t shirts for special events such as concerts. The upcoming concert presents another opportunity for George to make and sell t shirts; however the question is how many t shirts to produce. There are two fundamental case questions that must be answered: 1. What are the possible financial outcomes if Lassiter orders 5,000 T shirts? 7,500? 10,000? As shown in the Exhibit, a rather simple but detailed decision tree has been made which represents the various options for George. The financial outcomes for the three different amounts of t shirts that he can provide are presented in tabular form, in the Appendix. Table 1 shows profit outcomes for ordering 5000 shirts, Table 2 shows profit outcomes for... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thus, there is no actual guarantee or scenario where George would earn exactly $26,574; it is simply the weighted average of profits and their likelihoods, if he had to make this decision a large number of times. Furthermore, the EMV for Order 10,000 shirts was $26,574; this was quite close to the EMV for Order 7500 shirts , which was $24,181. Added to this, the payoffs for George from choosing the different alternatives vary, and there are possibilities for George making a loss. EMV is not a very accurate measure for George in this scenario and hence, a thorough risk analysis was conducted. The risk analysis immediately eliminates the Order 15,000 shirts option (as did the EMV criteria) because there is a 33% chance that George makes a loss with this option. This is a highly risky option, with a high probability of loss, but at the same time, offers much higher payoffs. Due to George s conservative nature in the past, we can safely say that he should not consider producing 15,000 t shirts for the concert. Having eliminated completely the option for producing 15,000 shirts, the analysis now focuses on the remaining three options that were available to us at the beginning. With the option of producing 10,000 shirts, the probability of making at least a profit of $6791 is 6%. Similarly, there is also a 6% probability of making a loss of $3458. Over the past couple of decades, we have launched numerous contraptions into space such as satellites in which many currently orbit the Earth. These contraptions can be used for reconnaissance, communications, weather, search and rescue, navigation, exploration, television, and much more. Not a day passes by where we do not make use of these contraptions in our lives. Every year, the amount of debris orbiting the Earth grows, creating an increasingly hazardous zone for satellites and even astronauts. Although some objects or shrapnel look small, their destructive force is greatly magnified by the hostile conditions of space. According to NASA, pieces as small as softballs can be traveling at an astonishing 17,500 miles per hour. Due to these enormous orbital speeds, any of these objects have the potential to damage or destroy the satellites that we depend on. In fact, even a tiny paint fleck has caused enough damage to the windshields of spacecraft that the windows had to be replaced (Space Debris and Human Spacecraft). In addition to damaged windows, images show that even objects less than half an inch in diameter can puncture through the structure of the space shuttle Endeavour (Trouble in orbit: the growing problem of space junk). I think being an adult means, being able to support yourself; as in having a steady paying job, and most importantly being accountable to yourself. Being able to make your own decisions without asking a parentor model figure first, is an example of having an identity status of a moratorium. One with this type of mindset as a young adult, will weigh their options and consider their values and what they believe themselves, whether it s their own thoughtbranched off of their parents guidance, or it is completely their own ideaand they explore to see what their views are. The young adult wants the security of having the approval of a decision and being told what to do and pointed what direction to go towards. This is essentially making the decision for them. This type of identity status if called foreclosure. At a very young age, I was given the responsibility to take care of my youngest sister after school. Jules has short hair, wears baggy clothes and plays football, and her mother overhears a conversation between Jules and Jess about love, but she misinterprets it and thinks Jules is gay. The mother is very upset about her daughter being gay and when Jules tells she is not gay, the mother is very relieved and then says there is nothing wrong with being gay. Even though she says that, she is still happy her own daughter is in fact not a lesbian. This shows certain stereotypes towards girls that play football, have short hair and wear baggy clothes. Looks can be deceiving however, not all infants are created equal. Statistically speaking, the overwhelming majority of the seven billion humans on earth will pass away as a member of the same socioeconomic class they began. In fact, society predicates itself on living a better life than their family who came before. Society takes part in a never ending race to further itself on a socioeconomic level from the generation before knowing full well that the majority will not achieve such goal. That in itself is a testament to how difficult the task of altering identity is. Malcolm Gladwells Power of Context echoes many of the same progressive principles preached in the early twentieth century, he believes external factors such as the aspects of environment are the greatest determinants of identity. Barbara Fredrickson argues in her book Love2.0, that change comes from within. Frederickson believes that biochemical alterations of the humanbody can occur by increasing loving potential (119). An increase of such potential has a profoundly positive impact on human health . Historical Leader Synthesis Essay On Sir Winston Churchill Historical Leader Synthesis Essay on Sir Winston Churchill Soaked in sweat, I ran to the library to get a book on a historical leader before they were all gone. I would like to think I found a great leader, but I think one found me. As I was reading a book on great leaders of World War II, I initially focused on American leaders, but Sir Winston S. Churchill seemed fit my exact requirements. Sir Winston S. Churchill was a Visionary and Ethical Leader. In the following pages, I will explain how Winston was a visionary leader and how he used Inspirational Motivation and global diversity to gain advantage during World War II. I will also explain how he critically thought through a gut wrenching decision by using Dr. Toner s three Ps in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Harmon s (1991) article, he details a scene where Sir Winston Churchill is sitting around the strategy table, debating the benefits of area bombing. Area bombing is a tactic where an area is indiscriminately bombed, regardless of military objective. During the meeting Winston stood up and proclaimed, Are we beasts, are we taking this too far (Harmon, 1991, p. 3). LM03, Ethical Leadership, discusses Dr. Toner s three P s, which are principle, purpose, and people (DAF, 2014c, p. 7). To me, Winston Churchill put the three P s in the correct order when he decided to commence area bombings. He put the principle of freedom and justice before the purpose of winning the war and finally, he put the people in their proper place of third. Had he not made this decision, who knows how many more would have died. The air raids killed innocent women and children, but many others today enjoy freedom and liberty because of this decision. The war continued and as the German people became war weary, ended in 1945 due, in part, to Churchill s proper use of the three P s. Making a decision like this takes guts, resolve, and most importantly an ability to see the second and third order effects. Winston Churchill would not have made the decision to area bomb had he not known that its effect on the German people would cause them to lose their will to fight, therefore limiting the endless supply of troops Hitler seemed to be able to acquire. This, to me, is why Course 14 intertwined the critical thinking and ethical leadership modules. On Facione s scoring rubric from CF03, Critical Thinking, I would definitely have given Winston s decision to use area bombing a 4 out of 4 (DAF, 2014b, p. 24). In the strategy brief, he interpreted the evidence ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Disadvantages Of Megacities Overview Cities exist because of the benefits of centralized production and exchange. By living and working in cities, we achieve a higher standard of living but also put up with pollution, noise and congestion. (O Sullivan, 2012) Megacities are large and highly dynamic systems, and represent concentrated sites of human life as well as ecological stress and pollution. Due to the combination of pollution and stress as neighbourhoods grow in size and their resource capacity, the transformation in social environmental relations is also observed. Over time more local environmental hazards associated with inadequate services and sanitation is being replaced by risks that accrue at the city scale. Most megacities are important nodes in the production of pollution and greenhouse emissions which have negative impacts on populations at regional and also global scales. Historically coastal megacities have recorded some of the highest economic losses due to disaster events but megacities are also the centres of capacity, ingenuity and resources. The management of hazards, vulnerability and environmental management in megacities is very complex, and governance responses require special attention to the multiple scales of impact. (Mark Pelling, 2013) Cities around the world are growing at a never experienced rate. Over the past thirty years the number of people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Automobiles contribution is reported to account for 40 to 80% of the total air pollution in megacities. The challenge Megacities face is how to reduce the adverse environmental impacts and other negative effects of transportation without giving up the benefits of mobility. This becomes more pressing under conditions of rapid urban growth, which is likely to increase travel demand significantly. (S. K. Goyal, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. The Gameplay Of The Xbox One The Xbox One The Xbox One being the main competitor of the PS4 was launched in 2013, the consoles introductory price was ВЈ429 which was much more that the PS4, the console once again include Xbox Live and has sold around 3 million units as of 2013, with 10 million units being shipped over, the console increased the emphasis on cloud computing and the integration of entertainment applications and services, they did this by offering players the ability to overlay live television programs for an existing box set and essentially use the console as a TV system as well as a gaming system. Personal Computers PC s currently have the most optimized gaming platforms to date, the hardware of which is made commonly by third party companies and can be integrated to then develop a computer to its best performance. In turn this allows the PC to reach higher frame rates than an ordinary console can achieve, and also produces better graphics and other visuals. PC s include a very unique hardware development for example the CPU s, Memory size and the GPU s are a lot more advanced than standard consoles. One of the main limitations that Personal Computers have is the sheer price of the parts, PC s are expensive, and with the ability to constantly upgrade your system you can spend up to ВЈ2000 on a gaming pc with high spec hardware, another issue is that PC s are not very portable due to the size of the overall system such as, the tower, the monitors, the keyboard and mouse and all of the ... • 45. Solutions-Focused Therapy Essay Solutions focused therapy is a relatively new and welcomed therapy developed by Steve de Shazer and his wife Insoo Kim Berg, in 1979 at their institute, the Brief Family Therapy Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin (Guterman, 2010, p. 350). Shazer was interested in how to influence change (Nichols, 2008, p. 346). Solution focused therapy deals in solutions as opposed to dwelling on problems. Increasingly stringent budgeting constraints emphasize the need to develop shorter and more focused therapy sessions without sacrificing successful outcomes (Nichols, 2008). The drawback to solution focused therapy would be that for those not experienced, therapists may be unable to decipher what real underlying issues are involved (Guterman, 2010).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Clients in working with their therapists learn to rethink their situations. They learn to look at their life as the glass half full, instead of almost empty. Showing clients how to spot the flowers in a sea of weeds enables them to face adversity or misfortune with an attitude of, yes, that was a bad hit, but how do we move on from here? Where do I want to go tomorrow? How am I going to get there? Solutions focused therapy enables a client to multiply a smidgen of courage into enough to conquer a problem. Assisting clients to re set their thinking stays with clients long after the therapy session has ended, and is another excellent benefit of solutions focused therapy. Not surprisingly, Iveson (2002) found that solutions focused therapy was effective in a severe phobia case, while he was working with a client experiencing agoraphobia. According to the Mayo Clinic ( 2009) agoraphobia can severely limit your ability to socialize, work, attend important events and even manage the details of daily life, such as running errands (para. 1). In working with his client, Iveson discovered that the client did go up and down stairs in her home that ran right beside the front door. Some days, the client had to sit on the top step and talk herself into making the descent, but after time had passed, she could make the trip down and back up. Once the client had remembered what she was able to do, Iveson concentrated on that success, which was then followed by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
