King s Violent Diction
King uses repetition along with violent diction to illustrate Jack s primary concern as an inability
to sustain a successful looking public image, further characterizing him as self conscious and
egocentric. By implementing violent diction, King highlights Jack s loathing for the thought of
one day having to work a menial job to support his family, emphasizing the fact that Jack would
rather preserve his public image than aid his family. Whilst Jack contemplated possible future
scenarios, he clenched his fists tighter still, feeling the fingernails sink into his palms and draw
blood in mystic quarter moon shapes (King 270). Through the use of graphic words such as sink ,
draw blood , and mystic quarter moon shapes , King reinforces the

Motorcycle-Car Collisions Research Paper
Motorcycles, which are a small subset of all motor vehicles, are greatly overrepresented in fatal
motor vehicle accidents. In the United States, the death rate per registered motorcycle (59 per
100,000) is approximately three times the death rate per registered passenger car (17 per
100,000). 77 Mortality rates calculated per vehicle, however, does not take into account the
substantially lower mileage travelled by motorcyclists. Per mile travelled, the mortality rate for
motorcycles is estimated to be 22 times higher than the comparable death rate for passenger
cars.77 Another study also estimated the death rate for motorcycle riders of about 35 per 100
million miles of travel compared with an overall vehicle death rate of 2.57 per 100 million... Show

To evaluate the possibility that motorcycle car collisions may occur at higher speeds than car car
collisions, researchers assessed a sample of 109 motorcycle car head on collisions (that is, the
impact speed was the same for the car and the motorcycle) from the same dataset. They found
that the motorcyclists involved were 95.4% likely to be injured while the car drivers were 0.9%
more likely to be injured. The much higher injury rate confirmed that motorcyclists are more
physically vulnerable than those drivers in cars. Overall, the casualty rate (all injury types) is
556 per 100 million vehicle kilometre for two wheeled motor vehicle, compared to 50 for car
users in Britain 2002.80 Overcrowded and unsafe modes of public transport contribute to road
traffic injuries and death, particularly in low income and middle income countries. Choice of
transport mode is frequently related to socio economic status, with those who can afford it avoiding
these unregulated and relatively less safe vehicles. A study in Kenya found that buses and matatus
(privately owned mini buses) are the vehicles most frequently involved in fatal crashes and that
passengers in these vehicles account for 38% of the total road

The Relevance Of Photosynthesis And Nature
The Relevance Of Photosynthesis To Nature
The natural light that shines onto the Earth is said to be the driving force behind all life. It s
fascinating to find out that the green matter around us that we tend to take for granted is mankind
s source of energy which is a necessity for every living being even in its lowest form. We can
literally define photosynthesis as synthesis with the help of light . It is also defined as the basic
process of life whereby plants absorb energy from sunlight and through a series of processes
convert that energy to chemical energy that is later consumed by other living entities. As Julius
Robert Mayer asserts, Nature has put itself the problem how to catch in flight light streaming to
the earth and to store the most elusive of all powers in rigid form. This turns out to be an
economic provision to which the existence of mankind is inexorably bound. (Rabinowitch and
Govindjee, 9). We will examine how this process keeps our planet alive and will also demonstrate
how plants distribute energy to all members of the ecosystem through a series of chain reactions.
The following chemical equation gives us a general overview of the entire process:
CO2 + H2O + ENERGY (PHOTONS) CX (H2 O) y + O2
This means carbon dioxide (CO2) and water (H2O) from the atmosphere together with kinetic
energy from the sun that results in the variable carbohydrate group (CX (H2 O) y) and oxygen (O2
). We observe that the resulting expression on the right

Observational Learning Psychology
Throughout television, one can hardly go a few minutes without being subjected to hundreds of
ads, each providing something that is claimed to be essential to life. However, there may be
something deeper behind these advertisements. Many psychological aspects are used by
companies to ensure that their ads will leave an impression on the viewer. One of the main
elements used is observational learning. During observational learning an observer will watch
someone performing an action and observe the effects that said action has. If the action results in
a negative reaction the observer will be less likely to repeat it. If the action has a positive reaction,
they are more likely to repeat that action. One example of how observational learning... Show more

In an advertisement for Omega watches, James Bond is portrayed along with the new watch
model, complete with text stating the watch is James Bond s choice. While not explicitly stated,
it nevertheless can cause the viewer to immediately begin to associate the watch with James Bond
s lifestyle, or at the very least class and luxury. This is retained for several reasons. The first is that
this advertisement directly ties into an upcoming movie, and any Bond fan will likely now
recognize a connection between the Omega watch and the character of James Bond. Owning the
watch is then recognized with wit, sophistication and charm. The second is that when one goes to
watch Casino Royale, the watch is pointed out. When one of the characters, Vesper, is attempting
to analyze Bond, she points out his expensive watch, even asking him if it was a Rolex. This will
result in an increased motivation to purchase an Omega watch due to its association with the James
Bond character. Even if at a conscious level the consumer recognizes that this is only an ad, the
association and observational learning will remain, influencing their

James Glasgow Farragut
James Glasgow Farragut started life on July 5, 1801. He was born near Campbell s Station,
Tennessee. His parents were George Farragut, who was a native to spain, and his mother was
Elizabeth Farragut. In his early childhood years, he was adopted by Captain David Porter to
learn trade, after his mother died of yellow fever. Also, he was adopted, because his biological
father wanted to put his young children, into the care of family, and friends. This was so that the
children would be better cared for. During the war of 1812, Farragut served under Captain David
Porter, who was in charge of the Frigate Essex. During the War of 1812, James Farragut changed
his first name to David, to honor David Porter, who adopted him. When Farragut was... Show more

This area was defended by a couple of forts, and the largest of them was fort Morgan. Fort
Morgan had a long line of torpedos, or landmines, on one side of the fort. Farragut approached
the fort, in two columns. Each column had armored ships in the front, followed by a fleet of of
wooden ships. Once the lead ship, Tecumseh was destroyed by a landmine, another leading ship
stopped in alarm, and the whole fleet went into confusion under firing range, from Fort Morgan.
Once the disaster, seemed like it could get no worse, Farragut yelled, Damn the torpedos, full
speed ahead. Surprisingly, all of the mines failed to explode, so this meant that all of his fleet was
able to reach the enemy Fort shore. Now that the Forts were completely isolated, they each
surrendered one by one. Vicksburg was the first to surrender, on July 4th, 1863. Then, on July 9th,
General Banks accepted that the Confederate Garrison would be surrendered. The battle of Mobile
Bay was the Climax of David Farragut s career. Since Farragut was a rear admiral in 1862, and a
vice admiral in 1864, he was appointed full admiral in 1866. Farragut s last in command service
was from 1867, to 1868. Although that was his last service in command, David Farragut
remained on active duty, until he died. The award of being active duty until death, has only been
awarded to him and six other people. At the age of 69, while Farragut was on vacation in

Essay on Divergent Viewpoints
The nature of conflicting perspectives is to explore differing values and ideas, through the
representation of the events, people and situations, which in some way impact on the composer and
the reader. Composers often manipulate their representations for their own purpose and these
conflicting perspectives exist because of the eternal subjectivity of composers. Hughes 20th century
confessional poems, Fulbright Scholars and Your Paris offers a perspective on his tempestuous
relationship with Plath, persuading the reader that he was the victim suffocating under Plath s
mental instability. Similarly, George Clooney s (2005) American dramatic film, Good Night and
Good Luck , in conjunction with Hughes poetry demonstrates how the... Show more content on

The use of ironic imagery discharges an emotive, personal tone which in turn persuades the reader
to empathise with Hughes as he was dumbfounded afresh by Plath.
Consequently, individuals can be selective in their choices when representing a person, event or
situation and omit key elements, controlling the response of the responder. Similar to how Hughes
anthology, Birthday Letters , expressed through inherent subjectivity, George Clooney s 1950 s era,
Good Night and Good Luck, echoes this as he represents this idea through the media. Through
filmic devices, Clooney explores the tension between the perspectives of reporters at CBS and
Senator Joseph McCarthy in viewing McCarthy s actions as he, takes charge... of Communist
infiltration . Just as Hughes relationship with Plath raised questions from public opinion, but he
dismisses their viewpoints through his emotional poetry. Clooney uses Edward R. Murrow to
expose Senator McCarthy as a fear monger of communism in his television segment, See it Now ,
as he presents his story from a low angle shot. This presents Murrow in a powerful position as he
uses the media to announce his perspective on McCarthy to the citizens of America. As he
addresses the story about a man.. Regarded as a security risk.. If associated with Communists .
Additionally, it seems to us... Myself.. That this is a subject that should be argued about endlessly ,

Analysis Of The Book The Things They Carried
1. Birth October 1, 1946; present 2. The things they carried was written in the late 1980 s and
published in 1990. The novel acts as a response to the era it discusses by solidifying the un
generalized version of war through fictional anecdotes from the narrator and characters. The truth is
never portrayed through historic context or media, and with this novel, the author was able to
reciprocate the emotions felt by soldiers from the graphic scenes or actions envisioned/written. 3.
Factors that influenced the author to publish this novel was partly due to his way of coping after
war, using stories to keep the imagination alive and causing the audienceto reflect on their own
lives. Another is telling an honest view of the what war really is and how the soldiers were
affected from the start of being drafted until life after the VietnamWar, trying to find their identity.
4. The novel version I used was paperback. To complete this section, I used websites for articles
about O Brien s biography, interviews from the author himself, and different analysis of the novel as
my sources to understand the varied perspectives.
II. Diction: 1. The diction for this novel is connotative. Although his writing can be straightforward
and literal, his reflection can provide varied meanings to what his ideas are. The author often
changes literary devices to get his point across. In one chapter, he can be specific on the little
details that depicts one s entity and then he can take

Shopping Malls Are Becoming Extinct
Ever wonder what your favorite mall will look like if it was replaced by an empty lot? How
would you feel? Approximately 60 years ago when shopping malls were first built, it was
expected to be the gleaming symbols of America s future. Shopping malls were created to lure
customers from the city into the suburbs; thus allowing shopping be done under one roof.
However, according to recent studies conducted by Green Street Advisors, 10 percent of the
nation s 1,000 enclosed malls will fail by 2022. Although this may not seem detrimental, once
the malls begin to disappear, shoppers will be limited to where they shop. Shopping malls are
becoming extinct because of change in generation, economic issues, and the closing of major
anchor stores. As we enter a new generation, shoppers are gearing toward online and mobile
shopping, which contributes to the extinction of shopping malls. America reached a time period
where the number of adults who were born in a time where online shopping was not thought of
are retiring; resulting in old habits, such as shopping in malls, coming to a cease. The older
generation of adults tend to revert back to familiar habits such as shopping at malls or going to a
bookstore. The new generation of adults/teenagers do not use shopping malls as a hangout spot in
contrast to older generation, thus leading to the decline of shopping malls. Other than shopping,
shopping malls were once used for socializing. However, with the increase of social networks

How The Big Oil Companies Have Kept Substitutions At Bay...
Introduction The oil industry has been around since the 1860 s and has made its mark on the
world. Becoming the largest used fuel source and the biggest market industry integrating its self
into the world economy. Crude oil pulled from the ground through different stages of
technology has grown as a major commodity and demand has grown largely since it was first
discovered. This industry has been looked at for collusion for many years now. The
competitiveness of the industry and weather OPEC is a large collusive organization. How the
big oil companies have kept substitutions at bay whether it be through lobbying for regulations or
other tactics. Or how companies can own all the way from the drill to the pump and manipulate
the market prices through the power of market transactions. I want to analyze data point of these
transactions and see if prices are being held higher for longer and if so it to be the cause of
collusive activity. With control groups and cases I will come to my own conclusion of weather
the price of gas stays higher longer in certain states than others and if there is a direct correlation
to upward and downward spike in crude oil vs gasoline. Product How is it made First I want to
talk about the Oil Industry and the process of getting oil to the pump that people then use for fuel.

The Theme of Fatalism in Antigone
Tragedies involve a regular person experiencing a reversal in fortune because he or she results in
a catharsis arousing fear and pity of the audience. In Greek tragedies, fatalism plays a dominant
role in doing so as one is not a free agent because future(in tragedies, reversal of fortune) is
predetermined even if one knows and attempts to avoid it.
Antigone is the daughter of the Oedipus and the sister of Polyneices and Eteocles. King Creon
passed a royal edict banning anyone from burying disgraced Polyneices dead body.
Antigone is portrayed as a heroine rebel who does not fear forces from governments, has a
different mindset to that of Ismene, her submissive sister. She made the choice of burying his
brother Polyneices body that cost her life instead of leaving it in the open.
When fate puts her in this particular situation, she is forced to defy Creon s edict because she
had to follow the God s law which dictates all dead bodies have to be buried otherwise they will
wander the earth ad infinitum. There appears to be a choice for Antigone, but her mindset was pre
programmed such that fate already chose the path for her even if she believed the choice was
made by her free will. Antigone is also fully aware of her consequences and acknowledges her
death and her supposed fate as it is noted in a conversation between Antigone and Ismene:
ISMENE
O sister, scorn me not, let me but share
Thy work of piety, and with thee die.

damages regarding pain and suffering, permanent disability, disfigurement, emotional damages as
well as financial loss and medical expenses. In this scenario, all six elements to prove malpractice
are present. The negligence is by licensed personnel in a hospital setting. Using the definitions and
criteria above, the newspaper incorrectly defines the mishap as negligence. The correct term to use
in this case is professional negligence or malpractice. Nursing documentation should be reflective of
the patient s hospital stay. This includes identifying and addressing patient needs, assessments,
problems, limitations, and responses to nursing interventions. According to Guido (2010),
Documentation must show continuity of care, interventions that were implemented, and patient
responses to the therapies implemented. Nurses notes are to be concise, clear, timely, and
complete (p. 197). Guido (2010) lists the following guidelines for nurses to use to ensure
documentation is complete and accurate (p. 197 209): 1.Make an entry for every observation. If
documentation is absent, it can be assumed an observation did not take place. 2.Follow up as
needed. Evaluation and observations require follow up to ensure appropriate patient responses and
optimal outcomes. 3.Read nurses notes prior to giving

would I fail and not teach them anything? Luckily, my anxiety disappeared as soon as I walked

Are Tattoos Appropriate In The Workplace Essay
Are Tattoos Appropriate In the Workplace?
Is body art a workplace delivery? Does having a visible tattoo trial anything approximately an
individual that is applicable to his or her job?
Many employers have policies that do not allow macroscopic tattoos.
This example is as like as not a simple one. For model, the strife is that a four star hotel may not
want the concierge to have diffusive tattoos of skulls and crossbones on the back of each hand.
Depending on the employer s assiduity and the type of job, this may make appreciation.
Companies either sustain no rule of thumb at all or establish such rigid policies that they almost

toward tattoos or piercings. Today, mark has cheap wider friendly embracement and more and more

Literary Analysis Of Thomas Hardy s The Darkling Thrrush
Thomas Hardy s poem The Darkling Thrush presents a first person speaker, staring out onto the
unwelcoming frozen landscape, as he reflects on the living and un living, being on the hastened
path to death and decay. Considering his title, the use of the word Darkling , meaning becoming
dark, immediately, the reader is given a negative undertone. He explores the theme of death and
decay of the events of the 19th century, and the 19th century itself, The Century s corpse . Also,
the use of a first person narrative creates involvement and intensifies that feeling of isolation as I
will explore later in the essay, along with the techniques Hardy uses, and imagery he creates.
Hardy uses many techniques for the rhythm of his poem, some that work together and some that
disrupt the harmonious cadence that they create. The poem is written in an iambic meter, the pace
is preserved through as it has a regular iambic rhythm, alternating through trimeter and tetrameter on
each line. This rhythm effects the pace of the poem, making it slow and joyless, as it creates an
unsteady, eerie atmosphere by using the alternating meters, again enhancing the reader s imagery
and feelings of darkness and isolation. This is also maintained through the use of alternating rhyme
at the end of a line, gate [...] desolate as it presents a rhythm and almost relieves the tension that the
speaker creates for the reader. However, the iambic meter and the alternating rhyme is disrupted by
the use of imperfect rhyme throughout the poem, desolate [...] day this causes variation in tone and
an inharmonious feel, contrasting with the regular rhythm and rhyme, intensifying the eerie feel
that the descriptive language creates. Another technique Hardy uses that contributes to the tone
and pace of the poem, is enjambment, [...] broken lyres / And all [...] , the way Hardy uses this in
his poem creates a durable passage through time, it does this by slowing the pace of the poem down.
The theme of nature is explored through personification and symbolism, also the decaying element
of nature within the poem is illustrated through language of bereavement. Firstly, in the beginning
stanza, the personification through the capitalization of Frost and

Extraterrestrial Life Or Alien Life
For a long time, there has been a dispute on whether or not extraterrestrial life or alien life exists.
The discovery may not be in the near future, but it is more than likely to happen. Someday we
might be able to identify a planet and say that it is just like Earth. Finding life outside of Earth is
within reach. Extraterrestrial life is not a myth and there are many reasons why such as evidence
from National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), discovery of Earth like planets that
orbit a sunlike star, and discoveries on planets closer to Earth. Many scientists believe that we are
one of many species in the universe that exist on more planets than just Earth. It would be silly if
someone did not believe that there is life on some of the billions of planets to exist in our galaxy
alone. NASA has found evidence of another potential solar system. This is a collection of stars
orbiting around a single star and is located around 39 light years from Earth. Nasa s telescope
team said it had found a system of seven planets that were all similar in size to Earth (Gaffey). The
planets formed farther out from Trappist 1 and then moved inward. This makes it more likely that
they could contain some form of water. Volatile compounds (molecules that easily turn to gas) like
water are usually concentrated further out in star systems. The fourth, fifth, and six planets orbit in
the star s habitable zone so they are particularly likely to have liquid water on their surface. This

High School Musical Analysis
When watching a movie about high schoolers, there are usually many different groups of
students who all conform to one social group only. Take the movie High School Musical for
example. There is specifically one scene devoted to a song about fitting in with the status quo .
There are stereotypical groups such as jocks, nerds, theater geeks, skater kids, and the popular
kids in this movie and in other movies like it. Each of these groups can be broken down and
explained more in depth. When thinking of a jock, people would most likely picture a muscular,
sweaty guy wearing some sort of jersey. A stereotypical jock is usually also fairly popular, so
there is some overlap between the groups in some cases. Everybody knows their name and
whenever people talk to them, the subject of sports usually comes up. People ask questions like,
How s the team looking this year? or When do you have practice? Being a jock doesn t
necessarily mean that your grades are bad, but with practices every evening or two to three hours,
finding time to study and work can be difficult for jocks. Teachers usually like jocks and they
might ask them questions about the game from the week before. This bond between jocks and
teachers can give the jocks an advantage. The teachers might be more lenient when it comes to
assignments if they know that the jock has a big game coming up or had a tournament the weekend
before. Nerds are on the opposite end of the spectrum. They tend to spend their free time

by the fact that it had to establish its own distribution channel, however, the turning point for

Parker 51 Essay
Parker 51
Peace, love and harmony. A saying often used by writers and poets.
People cannot have everything in life, and achieving both peace, love and harmony is rarely
obtainable. In the text, Parker 51, love came alongside war, and the harmony was ruined by peace.
The main character, who goes by the name Rose, loved to play with words, and was convinced that
her love for words could maintain her love for Nat. The year was 1946, and the war was over. The
GI, Nat Racket, was returning to Philadelphia after fighting side by side with the British troops.
Mr. Racket was ready to take Rose with him back to Philadelphia. He was ready to marry her.

Try or Die- Personal Narrative Essay
Try or Die Personal Narrative Funny thing, crime is. Some do it for fun; others are forced into
committing it. A crime always means that there is someone who ends up hurt, upset or even
killed. I, of course was one of those people forced into committing it. Personally, I am, or should I
say was a nice person and it would break my heart to bits to see a person suffering in any sort of
way. But I had no choice. It was a matter of life and death for me. A situation of do or die . I had no

So where else to go other than the cold, heartless world of crime? What other options had I? So
now here I was, in this ill fated situation, stealing other people s hard earned money in order to
live. You may have worked out what I was about to do. Yes, that s right. I was going to rob a
bank. The plan was to find a way into the bank from either of its two doorways. I was going to do
this by picking the locks on one of them. I also had a map, a torch and a knife (the tool I was
going to use to pick the lock with) to assist me in my quest for the safe. If I did run into any

conceal myself there. I had to be out by half past seven at the latest if I was to avoid getting

had had bad luck for too long and was not going to let a little ill fortune ruin my chances of

Essay on Arundhati Roy’s The God of Small Things
Some believe that boundaries are made to be broken, that lines are meant to be crossed while
others believe that we should not move an ancient boundary stone set up by [our] forefathers
(Proverbs 22:28). Everywhere we look, we come across a moral boundary that we at least think we
should not cross, but cross nonetheless. As ye sow, ye shall reap is a familiar proverb we have
all heard at one point in our lives (Roy 31). But is it true? Do we really get what we deserve? And
if so, who then decides what is right and wrong? Who draws the line? Who sets the boundary? In

Arizona Recycling Benefits
Recycling Benefits: Proposing A Bottle Bill for Arizona
Recycling has had a large impact in our community over the past few decades. Rather than
throwing all our trash in the garbage can, we, as a community should continue to recycle as much
as possible. Not only does it cut down on litter, it can also add to our growing economy, cut down
on pollution, and save our raw materials. Arizona currently recycles about sixty percent of its
beverage containers, and because only a handful of cities have mandatory recycling programs they
are the perfect candidate to experiment with a new recycling program (Bottle deposit 2). I propose
that the state of Arizona put a bottle bill, similar to the one in Oregon, into action. All eleven states

For example, when a customer purchases a fifty cent can of Dr. Pepper from his/her local 7 11, s
/he would end up paying fifty five cents, which would include a five cent deposit. At any time
after consuming the thirst quenching beverage, the customer may return his/her can to any store
for his/her five cent refund. This definitely provides an incentive to recycle beverage containers.
In fact, in a recent survey I conducted on my plane trip home from Thanksgiving, consumers said
they often feel they are getting back free money for recycling. Either because they think of the
price of the beverage as fifty five cents, or because they wait until they have several bottles or cans
to return making their refund much larger than the original nickel they put down. The consumers
are not the only ones who benefit because the retailers in most states also get reimbursed for the
extra labor involved. This basic form of bottle bill is effective and very useful.
The Oregon bottle bill is also beneficial. Oregon s immensely popular bottle bill has been
effective in getting soft drink and beer cans and bottles off the roadways, and boosting recycling.
Much of the law s success is due to a system that is easily understood by consumers and
manageable for merchants (Bottle deposit 1). However, a few of the other eleven states have tried
to add to the basic bill making them confusing, more time

Although The Mission and BartolomГ© De Las Casas book, The Devastation of the Indies portray
events that took place over two centuries apart, similar features and effects of colonization are
apparent in each account. Slight differences in viewpoints are evident, such as The Mission s
portrayal of the natives in a more humane fashion, but this goes along with the evolution of time

Similar in theme, Roland JoffГ© s film, The Mission, portrays an eighteenth century South America
in which there are two opposing colonial forces. On one side there are imperialist plunderers , both
Spaniards and the Portuguese, who want to get rich and are ready and willing to utilize any method
possible in order to fulfill their insatiable desire for riches including slavery and the massacre of the
natives. On the other hand, there are Jesuit missionaries who desire to peacefully convert the
natives to Christianity. (Ebert, http://www.suntimes.com/ebert) An interesting connection that can
be made between the life of BartolomГ© De Las Casas and a character in The Mission is with
Robert De Niro s character, Mandosa. At one time Captain Mandosa was in charge of massacres
of natives and owned many slaves, but after he killed his brother out of jealousy for his brother s
lover, he repented his sins by joining the priesthood and helping the mission attain their goals. This
has similarities with how De Las Casas got involved in working for the plight of the Indians.
It can be speculated that The Mission has several sources of influence that culminated in its
production and release in 1986. Since it is not possible for Roland JoffГ©, producer of The
Mission or anyone on his staff to have first hand knowledge of the

from BLM and erasing the origins and all the work that has been done to make this movement. All
the similar tags that were on social media with intentions of being in solidarity with Black
communities didn t really help the need of non Black people to consider the anti Blackness in their
neighborhoods. For us to be in solidarity with BLM means that we need to seriously and actively

Purpose Of Restorative Justice
What restorative justice is a sentencing philosophy and practice that emphasizes an offender taking

Theories Of Defending The Knowledge Argument
Robert David Boone Jr.
Professor Tyron Goldschmidt
Philosophy 111
23 September 2014
Defending the Knowledge Argument There are two main theories that make up the knowledge
argument. The first is Physicalism, (or better known as materialism) which is the thesis that All
facts are dependent upon physical processes. (Smart) The other main stance taken is property
dualism. The thesis of property dualism states that there are Non physical properties of physical
substances (Calef) or that there are physical and mental properties. In this article, I will defend
the stance of property dualism by acknowledging objections and replying to these objections to
show why the argument for property dualism works. The knowledge argument revolves around
the scenario of Mary. Mary is very wise and she knows everything there is to know about
neurophysiology which has to do with vision and understanding everything physical when people
see things. She has been enclosed in a purely black and white room her whole life and the main
questions are: What will happen to Mary...[when she sees color] and Will she learn anything or not?
(Nida RГјmelin) When Mary first sees a red rose for example, she learns something new because
she has a new experience for the first time. She has a new feeling and has acquired a new
knowledge. This sets up the following for the stance on substance dualism (Gulick 369):
1.Mary before her release knows everything physical there is to know about seeing red.

Example Of Social Pedagogy
Social Pedagogy
Social pedagogy offers a holistic way of working with children and their families in ways that
support their well being, learning and growth. At the heart of social pedagogy lies a belief that
each person deserves to be treated with dignity and has potential.
In early year s settings, this requires meaningful and authentic relationships that enable practitioners
to recognise a child s potential, their qualities, strengths and interests, and to create learning
situations in which children can experience their resourcefulness and develop new abilities.

Relationships with others help children to define their self concept, self esteem, and ability to
express feelings. Social development is the ability to get along with others in a group. Interacting
with others allows children to begin to develop a sense of fairness and understand abstract concepts
like sharing with others.
Physical Development
Physical Development is the process of how children master control and coordination of their body.
There are two areas of physical development: gross motor (sometimes called large muscle) and fine
motor (sometimes called small muscle).
Gross motor activities involve movement of the entire body or larger parts of the body. Examples
include creeping, crawling, rolling, running, jumping, and dancing.
Fine motor activities involve movement of smaller parts of the body, like hands and feet. Examples
include grasping reaching, holding, banging, spinning, clapping, and hand eye coordination.
The Zone of Proximal Development
The zone of proximal development, often abbreviated as ZPD, is the difference between what a
learner can do without help and what he or she cannot do. The concept was introduced, but not
fully developed, by psychologist Lev Vygotsky(1896 1934)

Men struggle with their feelings and obsess by the figure of women s emotions. The male
grotesques of Winesburg have not developed the masculine role which would make it hard for
them to be immune (p. 181). Anderson addresses both sides of masculinity and feminism. That
men have a hard time being themselves and showing their true colors and feelings. Though that
is not a reason for the men to feel as if women are dependent on them and it is okay to treat them
poorly. Man or boy, woman or girl, they had a moment taken hold of the thing that makes the
mature life of men and women in the modern world (p. 243). In conclusion, Sherwood Anderson
degrades the female characters in Winesburg, Ohio, and writes in of how females were seen as if
they were less of a man in the decades ago, the men not showing compassion towards them, and not

Rhetorical Analysis Of Air Bud
The first word is pathos, this is an emotional appeal used to persuade and convince audience by
their emotional feelings. In this movie, this appeal has been used widely. When Josh loses his
father, he is saddened and depressed to the extent that he assimilates himself during Basketball
training sessions. The situation is worsened when the owner of the dog, Norm, repossesses it.
Although the dog was rightfully Norm s, the audiencewould be persuaded to side with Josh when
he sneaks into Norm s residence and steals the dog (Ebert). This is further backed by the fact that
the audience is already aware of the cruelty of Norm. To the audience s expectations, Buddy
further chooses Josh as it owner. I do believe this is the best end.
The second word is the ethos. This is an appeal that is used to convince the audience of the
credibility of a character or movie. It entails choosing of proper vocabulary, topic or theme to be
featured in such contexts. In this movie, Air bud , the audience is presented with a dog that
perfectly plays Basketball. In fact, Buddy makes twelve shots without missing a single one in the
entire movie. Honestly, this is a skill that even the professional players would envy. This skill by
the dog therefore creates its worthiness in the school basketball team, something the audience
would agree with. It is important to note that in the absence of the dog, the school team is losing
terribly. It s not a wonder therefore that Buddy leads the team to win

New Religious Movements In Japan During The 19th And 20th...
During the 19th and 20th century, Japan experienced a huge explosion of new religions
movements. These movements in turn helped shape the way many Japanese perceived
religiousness. Shinshukyo is a term used by Japanese to describe new religious movements. This
title is veered towards religious organizations founded since the 18th century. Many of these New
Religions are greatly influenced by older traditional religions such as Buddhismand Hinduism.
Although many view these new religions as cults, it is the complete opposite; they are non
violent or rebellious. The rises of these new religions are credited by social factors such as
economic depression in the 1920 s, and the period after World War II, in which Japan was
occupied and struggling to recover. The following is a short list and descriptions of new religions
that rose in Japan. Soka Gakkai, whose name literally means value creation society , is a new
religious group with over more than 12 million members of Soka Gakkai International in 192
countries and territories. Although Soka Gakki was founded in Japan in 1930 by educator
Tsunesaburo Makiguchi before the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As well as sharing the same interest in the fundamentals of the Three Teachings. A lot of the new
religions roots stem from different beliefs they ve plucked from the Confucius philosophy,
Buddhism, and different elements from Taoism. I believe it s safe to say that the New Religions
have survived in Japan because of Japan s unique approach to religion. Because Japan heavily
practices in syncretism it allows its people to practice these new religions while still staying under
the umbrella of the big three, Shinto, Buddhism, and Christianity, which in turn explains their
popularity. It s almost like being in the same religion, but instead just calling it a different name or
just focusing on one particular part of the bigger religion you

Morally Obligated In Sophocles Antigone
Why would people go against law? Maybe it s going against his/her conscience or belief, or
maybe the law(s) are presenting a danger, or maybe it s writing a awesome essay and voluntary
writing it for fun (sarcasm). But referring to the Native Americans in North Dakota that fight
against the building of a oil pipeline thru ancestral lands (Heim). In the greek play Antigone there is
an issue with civil disobedienceas well. it s right to disobey the law if it goes against one s belief or
way of life.It is one s moral obligation to go against laws when they go against one s conscious.
It is right to disobey a law that can potentially harm or critically change a way of life. Change in a
life can be very hard to adjust too even if it can also harm in the future the text states That river is
the source of water for the reservation s 8,000 residents. Any leak, tribal leaders argue, would do

Haim, ziv, lamy, and Hodes 2006) essentially aims at determining the emergence and extent at
which infants develop preference for their own race, whether such preferences are as a result of

However, when the sample population was exposed to up to three different faces exemplars
different from their races, the effect of being able to recognize only face disappeared. Bar Haim
et., al(2006) says it is important to examine whether young infants show an actual preference,
rather than a processing advantage, for member of their own race . The conclusion is that it is
not necessarily always the case that infants prefer their own races but that this may a result of
processing advantage which occurs as a result of more exposure to own race. The similarity in
these two conclusions by Sangrigoli et., al (2004b) and Haim et., al (2006) is that if indeed infants
are exposed significantly to races other than theirs, their own race preference or recognition will be
less pronounced.
The research by Haim et., al (2006) and Kelly et.,al (2007) both present very interesting inter
relationship. They agree with each other significantly in many respects. The two works set out to
determine how early in infancy do the phenomenon of own race preference as opposed to other
race. In the case of Nature and Nurture in own race face processing by Haim et.,al(2006) they also
accessed how much effect exposure of these infants to other races or immediate social environment

King s Violent Diction King uses repetition along with violent diction to illustrate Jack s primary concern as an inability to sustain a successful looking public image, further characterizing him as self conscious and egocentric. By implementing violent diction, King highlights Jack s loathing for the thought of one day having to work a menial job to support his family, emphasizing the fact that Jack would rather preserve his public image than aid his family. Whilst Jack contemplated possible future scenarios, he clenched his fists tighter still, feeling the fingernails sink into his palms and draw blood in mystic quarter moon shapes (King 270). In the United States, the death rate per registered motorcycle (59 per 100,000) is approximately three times the death rate per registered passenger car (17 per 100,000). 77 Mortality rates calculated per vehicle, however, does not take into account the substantially lower mileage travelled by motorcyclists. Per mile travelled, the mortality rate for motorcycles is estimated to be 22 times higher than the comparable death rate for passenger cars.77 Another study also estimated the death rate for motorcycle riders of about 35 per 100 million miles of travel compared with an overall vehicle death rate of 2.57 per 100 million... To evaluate the possibility that motorcycle car collisions may occur at higher speeds than car car collisions, researchers assessed a sample of 109 motorcycle car head on collisions (that is, the impact speed was the same for the car and the motorcycle) from the same dataset. They found that the motorcyclists involved were 95.4% likely to be injured while the car drivers were 0.9% more likely to be injured. The much higher injury rate confirmed that motorcyclists are more physically vulnerable than those drivers in cars. Overall, the casualty rate (all injury types) is 556 per 100 million vehicle kilometre for two wheeled motor vehicle, compared to 50 for car users in Britain 2002.80 Overcrowded and unsafe modes of public transport contribute to road traffic injuries and death, particularly in low income and middle income countries. Choice of transport mode is frequently related to socio economic status, with those who can afford it avoiding these unregulated and relatively less safe vehicles. • 4. The Relevance Of Photosynthesis And Nature The Relevance Of Photosynthesis To Nature The natural light that shines onto the Earth is said to be the driving force behind all life. It s fascinating to find out that the green matter around us that we tend to take for granted is mankind s source of energy which is a necessity for every living being even in its lowest form. We can literally define photosynthesis as synthesis with the help of light . It is also defined as the basic process of life whereby plants absorb energy from sunlight and through a series of processes convert that energy to chemical energy that is later consumed by other living entities. As Julius Robert Mayer asserts, Nature has put itself the problem how to catch in flight light streaming to the earth and to store the most elusive of all powers in rigid form. This turns out to be an economic provision to which the existence of mankind is inexorably bound. (Rabinowitch and Govindjee, 9). We will examine how this process keeps our planet alive and will also demonstrate how plants distribute energy to all members of the ecosystem through a series of chain reactions. The following chemical equation gives us a general overview of the entire process: CO2 + H2O + ENERGY (PHOTONS) CX (H2 O) y + O2 This means carbon dioxide (CO2) and water (H2O) from the atmosphere together with kinetic energy from the sun that results in the variable carbohydrate group (CX (H2 O) y) and oxygen (O2 ). • 5. Observational Learning Psychology Throughout television, one can hardly go a few minutes without being subjected to hundreds of ads, each providing something that is claimed to be essential to life. However, there may be something deeper behind these advertisements. Many psychological aspects are used by companies to ensure that their ads will leave an impression on the viewer. One of the main elements used is observational learning. During observational learning an observer will watch someone performing an action and observe the effects that said action has. If the action results in a negative reaction the observer will be less likely to repeat it. If the action has a positive reaction, they are more likely to repeat that action. One example of how observational learning... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In an advertisement for Omega watches, James Bond is portrayed along with the new watch model, complete with text stating the watch is James Bond s choice. While not explicitly stated, it nevertheless can cause the viewer to immediately begin to associate the watch with James Bond s lifestyle, or at the very least class and luxury. This is retained for several reasons. The first is that this advertisement directly ties into an upcoming movie, and any Bond fan will likely now recognize a connection between the Omega watch and the character of James Bond. Owning the watch is then recognized with wit, sophistication and charm. The second is that when one goes to watch Casino Royale, the watch is pointed out. When one of the characters, Vesper, is attempting to analyze Bond, she points out his expensive watch, even asking him if it was a Rolex. This will result in an increased motivation to purchase an Omega watch due to its association with the James Bond character. Even if at a conscious level the consumer recognizes that this is only an ad, the association and observational learning will remain, influencing their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

His parents were George Farragut, who was a native to spain, and his mother was Elizabeth Farragut. In his early childhood years, he was adopted by Captain David Porter to learn trade, after his mother died of yellow fever. Once the lead ship, Tecumseh was destroyed by a landmine, another leading ship stopped in alarm, and the whole fleet went into confusion under firing range, from Fort Morgan. Surprisingly, all of the mines failed to explode, so this meant that all of his fleet was able to reach the enemy Fort shore. Now that the Forts were completely isolated, they each surrendered one by one. Vicksburg was the first to surrender, on July 4th, 1863. Then, on July 9th, General Banks accepted that the Confederate Garrison would be surrendered. The battle of Mobile Bay was the Climax of David Farragut s career. Since Farragut was a rear admiral in 1862, and a vice admiral in 1864, he was appointed full admiral in 1866. Farragut s last in command service was from 1867, to 1868. Although that was his last service in command, David Farragut remained on active duty, until he died. The award of being active duty until death, has only been awarded to him and six other people. • 7. Essay on Divergent Viewpoints The nature of conflicting perspectives is to explore differing values and ideas, through the representation of the events, people and situations, which in some way impact on the composer and the reader. Composers often manipulate their representations for their own purpose and these conflicting perspectives exist because of the eternal subjectivity of composers. Hughes 20th century confessional poems, Fulbright Scholars and Your Paris offers a perspective on his tempestuous relationship with Plath, persuading the reader that he was the victim suffocating under Plath s mental instability. Similarly, George Clooney s (2005) American dramatic film, Good Night and Good Luck , in conjunction with Hughes poetry demonstrates how the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The use of ironic imagery discharges an emotive, personal tone which in turn persuades the reader to empathise with Hughes as he was dumbfounded afresh by Plath. Consequently, individuals can be selective in their choices when representing a person, event or situation and omit key elements, controlling the response of the responder. Similar to how Hughes anthology, Birthday Letters , expressed through inherent subjectivity, George Clooney s 1950 s era, Good Night and Good Luck, echoes this as he represents this idea through the media. Through filmic devices, Clooney explores the tension between the perspectives of reporters at CBS and Senator Joseph McCarthy in viewing McCarthy s actions as he, takes charge... of Communist infiltration . Just as Hughes relationship with Plath raised questions from public opinion, but he dismisses their viewpoints through his emotional poetry. Clooney uses Edward R. • 8. Analysis Of The Book The Things They Carried 1. Birth October 1, 1946; present 2. The things they carried was written in the late 1980 s and published in 1990. The novel acts as a response to the era it discusses by solidifying the un generalized version of war through fictional anecdotes from the narrator and characters. The truth is never portrayed through historic context or media, and with this novel, the author was able to reciprocate the emotions felt by soldiers from the graphic scenes or actions envisioned/written. 3. Factors that influenced the author to publish this novel was partly due to his way of coping after war, using stories to keep the imagination alive and causing the audienceto reflect on their own lives. Another is telling an honest view of the what war really is and how the soldiers were affected from the start of being drafted until life after the VietnamWar, trying to find their identity. 4. The novel version I used was paperback. To complete this section, I used websites for articles about O Brien s biography, interviews from the author himself, and different analysis of the novel as my sources to understand the varied perspectives. II. Diction: 1. The diction for this novel is connotative. Although his writing can be straightforward and literal, his reflection can provide varied meanings to what his ideas are. The author often changes literary devices to get his point across. In one chapter, he can be specific on the little details that depicts one s entity and then he can take ... • 9. Shopping Malls Are Becoming Extinct Ever wonder what your favorite mall will look like if it was replaced by an empty lot? How would you feel? Approximately 60 years ago when shopping malls were first built, it was expected to be the gleaming symbols of America s future. Shopping malls were created to lure customers from the city into the suburbs; thus allowing shopping be done under one roof. However, according to recent studies conducted by Green Street Advisors, 10 percent of the nation s 1,000 enclosed malls will fail by 2022. Although this may not seem detrimental, once the malls begin to disappear, shoppers will be limited to where they shop. Shopping malls are becoming extinct because of change in generation, economic issues, and the closing of major anchor stores. As we enter a new generation, shoppers are gearing toward online and mobile shopping, which contributes to the extinction of shopping malls. America reached a time period where the number of adults who were born in a time where online shopping was not thought of are retiring; resulting in old habits, such as shopping in malls, coming to a cease. The older generation of adults tend to revert back to familiar habits such as shopping at malls or going to a bookstore. The new generation of adults/teenagers do not use shopping malls as a hangout spot in contrast to older generation, thus leading to the decline of shopping malls. Other than shopping, shopping malls were once used for socializing. However, with the increase of social networks ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In Greek tragedies, fatalism plays a dominant role in doing so as one is not a free agent because future(in tragedies, reversal of fortune) is predetermined even if one knows and attempts to avoid it. Antigone is the daughter of the Oedipus and the sister of Polyneices and Eteocles. King Creon passed a royal edict banning anyone from burying disgraced Polyneices dead body. Antigone is portrayed as a heroine rebel who does not fear forces from governments, has a different mindset to that of Ismene, her submissive sister. She made the choice of burying his brother Polyneices body that cost her life instead of leaving it in the open. When fate puts her in this particular situation, she is forced to defy Creon s edict because she had to follow the God s law which dictates all dead bodies have to be buried otherwise they will wander the earth ad infinitum. There appears to be a choice for Antigone, but her mindset was pre programmed such that fate already chose the path for her even if she believed the choice was made by her free will. Antigone is also fully aware of her consequences and acknowledges her death and her supposed fate as it is noted in a conversation between Antigone and Ismene: ISMENE O sister, scorn me not, let me but share Thy work of piety, and with thee die. • 17. Literary Analysis Of Thomas Hardy s The Darkling Thrrush Thomas Hardy s poem The Darkling Thrush presents a first person speaker, staring out onto the unwelcoming frozen landscape, as he reflects on the living and un living, being on the hastened path to death and decay. Considering his title, the use of the word Darkling , meaning becoming dark, immediately, the reader is given a negative undertone. He explores the theme of death and decay of the events of the 19th century, and the 19th century itself, The Century s corpse . Also, the use of a first person narrative creates involvement and intensifies that feeling of isolation as I will explore later in the essay, along with the techniques Hardy uses, and imagery he creates. Hardy uses many techniques for the rhythm of his poem, some that work together and some that disrupt the harmonious cadence that they create. The poem is written in an iambic meter, the pace is preserved through as it has a regular iambic rhythm, alternating through trimeter and tetrameter on each line. This rhythm effects the pace of the poem, making it slow and joyless, as it creates an unsteady, eerie atmosphere by using the alternating meters, again enhancing the reader s imagery and feelings of darkness and isolation. This is also maintained through the use of alternating rhyme at the end of a line, gate [...] desolate as it presents a rhythm and almost relieves the tension that the speaker creates for the reader. However, the iambic meter and the alternating rhyme is disrupted by the use of imperfect rhyme throughout the poem, desolate [...] day this causes variation in tone and an inharmonious feel, contrasting with the regular rhythm and rhyme, intensifying the eerie feel that the descriptive language creates. Another technique Hardy uses that contributes to the tone and pace of the poem, is enjambment, [...] broken lyres / And all [...] , the way Hardy uses this in his poem creates a durable passage through time, it does this by slowing the pace of the poem down. The discovery may not be in the near future, but it is more than likely to happen. Someday we might be able to identify a planet and say that it is just like Earth. Finding life outside of Earth is within reach. Extraterrestrial life is not a myth and there are many reasons why such as evidence from National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), discovery of Earth like planets that orbit a sunlike star, and discoveries on planets closer to Earth. Many scientists believe that we are one of many species in the universe that exist on more planets than just Earth. It would be silly if someone did not believe that there is life on some of the billions of planets to exist in our galaxy alone. NASA has found evidence of another potential solar system. This is a collection of stars orbiting around a single star and is located around 39 light years from Earth. Nasa s telescope team said it had found a system of seven planets that were all similar in size to Earth (Gaffey). The planets formed farther out from Trappist 1 and then moved inward. This makes it more likely that they could contain some form of water. Volatile compounds (molecules that easily turn to gas) like water are usually concentrated further out in star systems. Everybody knows their name and whenever people talk to them, the subject of sports usually comes up. People ask questions like, How s the team looking this year? or When do you have practice? The decision was made when Richard s parents received a phone call from Mrs. Kettredge. Since this story ends before we can find out what the parents think, we do not know how they reacted to this news. Although a lot is at stake for Richard and Jenna, there is still a high possibility they could still be friends. The family issue happened in the past, when Jenna s father borrowed money from Richard s dad s company. Mr. Davis (Richard s father) took the blame along with Mr. Kettredge. The two families lost a lot, but now they seemed to have moved on and improved from the past. Also, Mrs. Kittredge does not seem to care that the kids are friends. For example, in the text it states, I kept telling myself that Richard and Davis are common names and he couldn t possibly be Morgan s son. When I saw him, though, I knew. Essay on Arundhati Roy’s The God of Small Things Some believe that boundaries are made to be broken, that lines are meant to be crossed while others believe that we should not move an ancient boundary stone set up by [our] forefathers (Proverbs 22:28). Everywhere we look, we come across a moral boundary that we at least think we should not cross, but cross nonetheless. As ye sow, ye shall reap is a familiar proverb we have all heard at one point in our lives (Roy 31). But is it true? Do we really get what we deserve? And if so, who then decides what is right and wrong? Who draws the line? Who sets the boundary? Rather than throwing all our trash in the garbage can, we, as a community should continue to recycle as much as possible. Not only does it cut down on litter, it can also add to our growing economy, cut down on pollution, and save our raw materials. Arizona currently recycles about sixty percent of its beverage containers, and because only a handful of cities have mandatory recycling programs they are the perfect candidate to experiment with a new recycling program (Bottle deposit 2). For example, when a customer purchases a fifty cent can of Dr. Pepper from his/her local 7 11, s /he would end up paying fifty five cents, which would include a five cent deposit. At any time after consuming the thirst quenching beverage, the customer may return his/her can to any store for his/her five cent refund. This definitely provides an incentive to recycle beverage containers. In fact, in a recent survey I conducted on my plane trip home from Thanksgiving, consumers said they often feel they are getting back free money for recycling. Either because they think of the price of the beverage as fifty five cents, or because they wait until they have several bottles or cans to return making their refund much larger than the original nickel they put down. The consumers are not the only ones who benefit because the retailers in most states also get reimbursed for the extra labor involved. This basic form of bottle bill is effective and very useful. The Oregon bottle bill is also beneficial. Oregon s immensely popular bottle bill has been effective in getting soft drink and beer cans and bottles off the roadways, and boosting recycling. Much of the law s success is due to a system that is easily understood by consumers and manageable for merchants (Bottle deposit 1). On the other hand, there are Jesuit missionaries who desire to peacefully convert the natives to Christianity. The first is Physicalism, (or better known as materialism) which is the thesis that All facts are dependent upon physical processes. (Smart) The other main stance taken is property dualism. The thesis of property dualism states that there are Non physical properties of physical substances (Calef) or that there are physical and mental properties. In this article, I will defend the stance of property dualism by acknowledging objections and replying to these objections to show why the argument for property dualism works. The knowledge argument revolves around the scenario of Mary. Mary is very wise and she knows everything there is to know about neurophysiology which has to do with vision and understanding everything physical when people see things. She has been enclosed in a purely black and white room her whole life and the main questions are: What will happen to Mary...[when she sees color] and Will she learn anything or not? In this movie, this appeal has been used widely. When Josh loses his father, he is saddened and depressed to the extent that he assimilates himself during Basketball training sessions. The situation is worsened when the owner of the dog, Norm, repossesses it.
