Hayden Vineyard Research Paper
The life of Hayden Vineyard
On the day of November 30,2000, Jennifer and Travis Vineyard s second son, Hayden Matthew,
was born inside of a room at the University of Tennessee Hospital in Knoxville, Tennessee. I was
born in November, but my parents were expecting me to be born in January of 2001, making me a
premature. I was very small as a baby with only being 3 pounds and 15 ounces. I was the smallest
baby in my family. As a baby I was hard to handle with not being able to breath on my own, my
family was being hopeful that I would survive, the doctors weren t. And with a little bit of
praying, I was able to start breathing on my own. Growing up I had a very joyful childhood filled
with friends and sports. My dad used to tell me that I

Dunlap V. Tennessee Valley Authority Essay
Dunlap v. Tennessee Valley Authority
Joyce Harrison
Business Employment Law
May 11, 2011
1. What were the legal issues in this case? The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit was to
determine if the plaintiff, David Dunlap Dunlap, had met the burden of proof that the Tennessee
Valley Authority (TVA) was liable under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 by intentionally
discriminating against him under both disparate impact and disparate treatment analyses and
whether the TVA appealto the District Court erred in each of these analyses could be legally
supported to reverse their decision FindLaw, 2011). David Dunlap brought suit under Title VII,
alleging racial discrimination by the TVA.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
3. Explain why the plaintiff s disparate treatment claim succeeded.
The disparate treatment doctrine requires a plaintiff to demonstrate that an employer has treated
some people less favorably than others because of their race, color, religion, sex, or national origin.
Three provisions required to prove disparate treatment are (1) the plaintiff must establish a prima
facie case of racial discrimination; (2) the employer must articulate some legitimate,
nondiscriminatory reason for its actions, and (3) the plaintiff must prove that the stated reason was
in fact pretextual. Proof of discriminatory motive is critical and may be inferred from the mere fact
of differences in treatment. Proof may also be inferred from the falsity of the employer s
explanation for the treatment, (Walsh, 2010).
Mr. Dunlap successfully established a prima facie case of disparate treatment by meeting the
above 3 provisions; (1) he was African American; (2) he was qualified for the position sought;
and (3) white applicants with less experience were hired for 9 of the 10 open jobs. TVA
attempted to rebut his claim by offering the selection matrix used during his interview as
evidence to prove that he didn t rank as one of the top 10 applicants due to his interview scores.
However, Mr. Dunlap was able to refute TVA s claim by demonstrating that his matrix score was
manipulated to keep him out of top 10, thus proving it was merely a

Dancing With The Tiger
Dancing with the Tiger by Lili Wright is by far one of the most energetic and exotic books I
have read in a very long time. As soon as the book began with main character Anna using her
tongue to sensually slipping her cheating fiancГ© her engagement ring during one of the most
vital art shows of his career, I knew I was going to like Anna. Wright did such a wonderful job
giving Anna s character a lot of guts and grit while still ensuring that the average womanwould be
able to connect with her.
After having her heart broken, Anna sets off to Mexico with three goals: avenge her and her
father s careers by finding Montezuma s death mask, lay her mother to rest nearly 20 years after
her death, and get over her scum of an ex fiancГ©. While on this

Gun Violence In America
Gun Violence in the United States of America
Every day there is another story in the news about excessive gun violence, accidents with guns
involving children who found loaded guns in the house or unnecessary gun violence by police
forces. Due to the US allowing and making it so easy for citizens to have guns and for their
security forces to shoot without strict rules or consequences, lots of innocent people are killed
without having any way to defend themselves.
ICCPR
US is in violation of their human rights obligations under article 6 of the ICCPR right to life
because it s not protecting the lives of its citizens, it is allowing excessive gun violence (by police
forces) and it has insufficient violations of guns by people who are not even supposed to possess
guns. The US is especially in violation because it fails to control its police department on the use of
gun violence.
The International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) is an international treaty, which
entered into force 23 March 1976. The United States of America signed the treaty in 1977 and
ratified it in 1992. The main purpose of the ICCPR is to protect human rights, as it protects civil,
political, economic, social and cultural rights. The ICCPR addresses the right to life and that
nobody should be deprived of that right. However, the current gun violence in the United States is
taking away the right to life.
The body who interpreters the ICCPR is the Human Rights Committee, this is laid

The Specificity Of Inhibitory Impairments
The Specificity Of Inhibitory Impairments In Autism And Their Relation To ADHD Type Symptoms
Adam Scavo
Des Moines Area Community College Children with autism are showing signs of ADHD type
symptoms at younger ages. Attention Deficit/hyperactivity disorder, also known as ADHD is
known to effect children more than it does adults, Population surveys suggest that ADHD occurs in
most cultures in about 5% of children and about 2.5% of adults (American Psychiatric Association).
ADHD mostly begins in the adolecent years of the life. The requirement that several symptoms be
present before 12 years of age conveys the importance of a substantial clinical presentation during
childhood. Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder shows a ... Show more content on

Autistic toddlers differ more strikingly from social norms; for example, they have less eye contact
and turn taking, and do not have the ability to use simple movements to express themselves, such as
pointing at things. In recent years, reported frequencies for autism spectrum disorder across U.S.
and non U.S. countries have approached 1% of the population, with similar estimates in childhood
and adult samples. It remains unclear whether higher rates reflect and expansion of the diagnostic
criteria of DSM IV to include subthreshold cases, increased awareness, differences in study
methodology, or a true increase in the frequency of autism spectrum disorder (American
Psychiatric Association). There have been many studies that have correlated the link between
autism and ADHD type symptoms. A test done by Charlotte Sanderson and Melissa L. Allen
showed the correlation of ADHD symptoms and Autism Spectrum Disorder. They used three tests
to study the children that they were using in this experiment, the first was the Go/No go task
followed by the Dog Pig Stroop test and finally the flanker test. The Go/ No go task is where they
used four shapes (square, circle, triangle, and diamond) and the children were told to press a large
star shaped button corresponding to three of the shapes, while resisting the fourth shape. The trial
had time limits of 1000 ms before automatic termination of the trial, after the termination of the trial

Colin Kaepernick s Argument Against Social Injustice
Just a few years ago, the United States National Anthem was not considered to be controversial
in the least. Insert Colin Kaepernick who started kneeling during the anthem to bring awareness
against social injustice to minorities in the 2016 season. When asked why he refused to stand
for the anthem during a pre season game he explained, I am not going to stand up to show pride
in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color. ... There are bodies in the
street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder. This initial protest and
statement created a firestorm over the next two seasons where many players and even entire teams

grand scheme of things. The only opinion(s) that ultimately matter on this topic is the 32 owners
in the NFL, and they unanimously voted to confirm this new policy. It has been called out that
these owners are suppressing free speech and it is unconstitutional. While the first amendment is
the bedrock of our society, the owners are completely within their rights. You see when they go
to work there are company personal conduct guidelines, same as every American working today.
These policies dictate what we can and cannot do, where we can do them, and when. Ultimately
if the boss (owners) says not to kneel during the anthem, you don t kneel. If the boss is ok or
embraces it, then the worker (player) is well within his right to exercise his free speech. That is not

Lord Of The Flies And Human Nature Essay
Human nature defines the general psychological behaviors of humans when in a primitive or
natural state. In the movies and books in this course human nature is a very prevalent theme and
controls the events throughout. In The Mist by Stephen King, the characters start out with their
civility and slowly break down and do things that show they will do anything to survive. In Lord
of the Flies by William Golding, the boys get stranded on an island and use a form of order to keep
their civilized lives intact but soon turn to savagery and destruction. Another example of human
nature is in the short story film of The Shelter from The Twilight Zone. The neighbors in the 1960 s

They begin with electing a leader that will guide them to survive and eventually be rescued. This
character is Ralph, and he stands for civilization and wanting to be saved from this tragedy. Only
days after this so called election, a few boys realize they need to hunt and kill for meat to survive.
They lose all thought of being rescued. Just within a matter of days these boys were a group of
savages, dancing around fires, sharpening hunting and killing spears, and attacking Ralph and
whoever else continued to live with a civilized manner. These boys were finally free of any adult
supervision or authority and wanted to act like human nature intends, with the thought of living
at the top of the food chain and surviving in the face of death being their only priority. Towards
the end of the story the group of savage boys, who called themselves a tribe, murdered the
character Piggy . This character represented the hope of civilization for the stranded group of
boys. He was the only one who saw their situation for what it really was. When he was killed,
Ralph even lost hope and began to fight and run to survive. The only reason these boys survived
was the eventual coming of the military that spotted the forest fires being started by the tribe to
burn out and murder Ralph. Once they saw an actual adult again they all broke down and regained
their vision on what they had all done on this island. This just shows how easily it is to wade in
and out of civility when under the

Cocaine Intoxication Essay
Cocaine Intoxication Cocaine intoxication occurs when you snort, smoke or inject too much
cocaine. One becomes restless and overactive shortly after using cocaine, but with excessive use,
cocaine intoxication can lead to death (Adult Health Advisor, 2005). The four stages of cocaine
intoxication are cocaine euphoria, cocaine disphoria, cocaine hallucinosis and cocaine psychosis. It
has been noted that cocaine intoxication closely resembles a psychiatric disorder. In the movie,
The Boost , the main character Lenny Brown goes through each stage of cocaine psychosis and
examples of his progression can be seen in the movie. The first stage of cocaine intoxication is
cocaine euphoria which is described as being similar to a manic... Show more content on

This stage is sometimes referred to as a crash . Other symptoms include anxiety, sadness, apathy,
irritability and sexual indifference. Contrast to cocaine euphoria, individuals feel tired and want
sleep, but cannot fall asleep. Users in this stage also have strong cravings for more cocaine to
return to the increased pleasure and energy in stage one. As the movie moves forward, so does
Lenny s experience with cocaine intoxication. In the bar scene when he is waiting for the dealer
with his wife, he is irritated with the dealer for being late, even though his wife is relatively
unaffected by having to wait. Also, one can see how Lenny craves more cocaine once he is out
of the hospital. He was just released for overdosing on cocaine, but as soon as he gets in the car
with his wife, he asks her if she has any. Another example to show how desperate Lenny is to
obtain more cocaine and try to impress people is by stealing $20,000 from his boss. As one moves
into stage three, the symptoms and affects start to become more severe and dangerous. This third
stage is referred to as cocaine hallucinosis. In this stage, individuals experience hallucinations and
delusions. Hallucinations are sensory experiences that occur in the absence of actual stimulation
(Kassin, 2004, 654.) In cocaine hallucinosis, users see, hear, feel, taste and smell things that are not
there. Delusions, in contrast to hallucinations, are

Black Yellow: Profits and Warning Signs
Introduction
Based on the true story of Nick Leeson, Rogue Trader is a movie about a man that went from
London to Jakarta to Singapore, to become the head of the derivatives trading in the up and
coming Singapore stock market. Leeson had proven to be an effective and efficient worker when
he was tasked to get bear bonds sorted on his first solo tasking with Barings Bank in Jakarta. That
successful completion got him put in the Singapore position because they needed someone there,
and he seemed to have the potential to make Barings a considerable profit.

The bank s risk appetite was enormous, and they seemed to have their eyes on the potential for
profit.
While Leeson did not personally exhibit any of the red flags typical of someone committing fraud,
such as financial difficulties, living beyond his means, or family problems, the work environment
threw up red flags. With management based in London, Leeson had little direct oversight. Barings
was okay with this because of the profit that Leeson was generating for the bank.
Control Activities
The Accounting Information Systems book recommends seven types of control activities that can
prevent fraud. These include: Proper authorization of transactions and activities, segregation of
duties, project development and acquisition controls, change management controls, design and use
of documents and records, safeguarding assets, records, and data, and finally independent checks on
performance. These control activities should have been in place to prevent the fraud from occurring.
Many of those control activities were ineffectively operating in Leeson s office. Use of proper
authorization of transactions was supposed to happen, but there was no validation of who
authorized a deal. Barings gave Leeson much responsibility, and there was no segregation of duties,
which gave him the ability to commit and conceal his fraud. Verification that documents were

Exploration During The Age Of Exploration
It represents the central motives explorers were striving for during the Age of Exploration . God
represents the aspiration to spread Christianity, Glory represents the explorers bringing power and a
high status back to Spain, and finally Gold represents the wealth they aimed to obtain for
themselves and their country.
His role in Portuguese politics in the 15th century was salient, especially when it came to the trade
routes. He was accountable for the early maritime trade with other countries and continents, and
early Portuguese exploration.
Dias is most extensively recognized for being the first European to voyage around the southernmost
point of Africa. His journey allowed a sea route from Europe to Asia to open up.
During the Age of Exploration Vasco was a successful and respected Portuguese sailor. His
discovery was tremendous, seeing as he was the first to sail to India from Europe, around the Cape

Making 4 trips across the Atlantic Ocean, Christopher attempted to find a direct route to Asia.
Unfortunately he never made it there, but he did end up landing in America. (The Americas)

Taking a Look at Radio Communication
One of the most important contributions to communication is the invention of radio
communication. It has provided a platform for wireless cellular communication. According to an
article, it was first believed that The wireless telephone will also cover the seas, lakes and
waterways, supplementing the wireless telegraph over short distances (Burt, 1908, para. 3). If
only he knew that wireless telegraph will become a thing of the past. The first effective radio
communication system was developed by Guglielmo Marconi, an Italian inventor, and scientist
(Guglielmo Marconi Biography, n.d.). Marconi never had any formal scientific education
(Bababian, 1992), but has been the recipient of honorary doctorates of several universities
(Guglielmo Marconi Biographical, 2013, para. 8). He began experimenting with
electromagnetic waves in 1894 when he was twenty years old. However, Nikola Tesla is now
credited with being the first person to patent radio technology; the Supreme Court overturned
Marconi s patent in 1943 in favour of Tesla. (Bellis, n.d., para. 6) . In the 1930 s radios were
commonly found in households as a source for entertainment and news. Since then, radio
technology has advanced significantly since its early days, especially to the sound quality and it s
ability to travel great distances. This form of entertainment is supported by the use of carrier
waves. These waves travel at the speed of light (Abbot and Rider, 1957). Carrier waveforms are the

Essay about A Role of Ethics and Social Responsibilities...
A Role of Ethics and Social Responsibilities in Management.
Ethics can be defined as a process of evaluating actions according to moral principal of
values(A.Alhemoud). Throughout the centuries people were trying to choose between profit and
moral. Perhaps, some of them obtain both, but every time it could have roused ethical issues. Those
issues concern fairness, justice, rightness or wrongness; as a result it can only be resolved
according to ethical standards. Setting the ethical standards for the way of doing business in

Examples Of Mixed Race In Chesnutt
In the novel, Chesnutt uses mixed race characters, which have both black and white ancestors
and these characters display the conflicts between black and white societies. Within the novel,
Janet Miller is the best example of a mixed race character. Janet s father was from the white
aristocracy, while her mother was a slave and a servant. Janet is emotionally hurt because she
doesn t receive the same affection like white half sister. She views herself as black and submits
to the segregation of the time. In comparison to societal views, Olivia Carteret also cannot view
her sister as an equal which is incredibly sad. Janet s angry compassion for her white sister sets the
novel s climax and represents hope for equality between the races. The Millers are well educated
and were brought up in the white world where they exclude themselves from the poor and
uneducated members within the society. However, the whites within society do not welcome them
due to their racebecause they think that Africans lack sense of purity. When exploring the
complexity of mixed races in the South Chesnutt describes, looking at these two men with the
American eye, the differences would perhaps be the more striking, or at least the more
immediately apparent, for the first was white and the second black, or, more correctly speaking,
brown...but both his swarthy complexion and his curly hair revealed what has been described in

Eye color, height, even most of your personality is inherited from your parents, and those same

generations of a family. It is a hard work that over time has provided a way of life and means of
supporting a family. Through use of flashbacks and vivid imagery, we get a glimpse at this
amazing way of life. One of the most important pieces of Digging is how the speaker begins

Systematic instruction of the elements of the language that relate to reading. These students need
everything taught step by step.
Comprehensive coverage. Nothing should be skipped. No jumping around.
Multi sensory instruction. Teach using all the senses: hearing, seeing, saying, touching, visualizing,
whole body movement.
Introduce small chunks of information at a time.
Be flexible about speed. The program must be able to move at a pace that is slow enough that the
student(s) can succeed without frustration and fast enough to keep everyone interested, attentive
and challenged. Since the ideal pace is different for different students, the program must allow for
this flexibility in progressing.
Regular systematic review so nothing important will be forgotten.

Analysis Of The Odyssey
In P.K. Narayan s version of the Indian epic The Ramayana, Rama intends to establish peace,
gentleness, and justice (Narayan 1972: 63) in the world. In Homer s The Odyssey, Odysseus has
an uncontrollable fighting spirit (Homer 1996: 227) that too often ends in misfortune. Despite
these great differences, these two characters have one thing in common: they are widely regarded
as heroes in their religion. This is just one of many distinctions between the two epics. In The
Odyssey, the afterlife consists of the shambling, shiftless dead (Homer 1996: 251) while in The
Ramayana, reincarnation follows death. These dissimilar perspectives have a tremendous impact on
charaters beliefs and behavior. This paper will investigate these... Show more content on

This is not a welcome destination for many. Even those who still live great lives end up in the
same situation with those who live ordinary ones. Thus, there was no real motivation in life to
achieve a certain level in the afterlife. In contrast, The Ramayana is a tale of Hinduism, where it is
believed that one is reincarnated depending on how they live their life, and that each individual has
a purpose in their life. Rama s purpose was to destroy Ravana... abolish fear... and establish peace,
gentleness, and goodness in the world. (Narayan 1972: 63). If one follows their purpose in life,
this will be reflected positively in their reincarnation following death. Rama never loses track of
this. Reincarnation creates a sense of purpose in one s life. Death is not the end, but a transition to
a new beginning. The theme of honor and glory, represented differently in The Ramayana and The
Odyssey, contribute to different forms of heroism. First, The Odyssey explores the theme of
heroism generally with the character Odysseus. Odysseus, the hero of the epic, has a strong desire
for glory, whatever the cost. For example, his cunning plan to save himself and his men from the
cyclops Polyphemus cannot go unnoticed. Having escaped, he calls back to Polyphemus, telling
him Odysseus, raider of cities, he gouged out your eye (Homer 1996: 227). In this instance,

Dartmouth College Goes Wireless
Q1. In what ways is the Wi Fi technology changing the life of Dartmouth students? Relate your
answer to the concept of the digital society. A1. Dartmouth College has made many innovative
usages of the Wi Fi technology in their college: * Students are continuously developing new
applications for the Wi Fi. * Students no longer have to remember campus phone numbers, as their
mobile phones have all the numbers and can be accessed anywhere in the campus. * Students
mainly use laptop computers on the network. The use of regular cell phones are on the decline in the

A Joint Venture With Pernod Ricard
The Republic of Poland, also known by its shortened name of Poland, has strong ties to the
United States. America has been a very powerful ally to Poland for many years. The spirits sector
of Poland s alcohol market is quickly growing with the vodka segment as one of the country s
largest sources of income. As a lucrative business already established in the US and attempting to
enter Polish markets, we will enter a joint venturewith Pernod Ricard, a very successful alcohol and
spirits company with operations here in America and abroad in Poland. Through an in depth look
at Poland s spirits market we will provide support for why we are choosing to enter Poland
through a joint venture and how we plan to control our abroad operations. A strategic plan detailing
how we will use our joint venture and then market, position, price, and promote our products are
also included..
Pernod Ricard is an extablished alcohol and spirits company with operations in both the US and in
Poland. In the past it has entered two lucrative joint ventures. The first took place in 1993 with
Havana Club International, which was a 50/50 joint venture (Pernod Ricard, 18). In 2011 Pernod
Ricard entered into a joint venture with Tequila AviГ

Cloud Computing
Cloud computing is an emerging computing technology that uses the internet and central remote
servers to maintain data and applications. Cloud computing allows consumers and businesses to use
applications without installation and access their personal files at any computer with internet

Differences in the integrin О±IIbОІ3 mediated clot retraction process between PECAM 1 / and
wild type platelets
At the experiment outset, the PECAM 1 deficient mouse population was healthy and displayed
normal Mendelian inheritance ratios.12 In addition, the population was within a haematologically
normal range and displayed normal platelet production.12 During the first months of life, when
compared to the age and sex matched population of wild mice, the homozygous PECAM 1
knockout mouse population struggled to grow, with lower average body weights.17 Research
performed by Mahooti et al,18 which assessed tail bleeding duration, suggested that the PECAM 1
/ group displayed longer bleeding times and, therefore, an in vivo bleeding defect. In sharp contrast,
similar research by Vollmar et al19 suggested that the PECAM 1 deficient population displayed
normal tail bleeding times. Initially, it was proposed that the potential reason for this difference
was an artefact created by different experimental techniques. Further investigation, using
hematopoietic reconstitution of irradiated PECAM 1 / mice to evaluate any reversal of prolonged
tail bleeding, showed that the discrepancy was probably caused by an underlying endothelial defect
rather than a platelet defect.18
In vitro evidence suggested that modulation of integrin О±IIbОІ3 mediated functions was
influenced by engagement of the PECAM 1 group, so the next stage involved testing if a

Vaccinations serve the primary function of protecting and strengthening immune functions. The
purpose of vaccinations is to prepare the immune system from these pathogenic invasions by

Essay on The Character Ophelia in Shakespeare s Hamlet
The Character Ophelia in Shakespeare s Hamlet
Ophelia is the daughter of Polonius, the right hand man of the King. Although she is only in five
scenes Ophelia plays an interesting role in this play as the seemingly passive, melancholy,
innocent little girl whose story ends in tragedy. From the beginning Ophelia is an obedient
character who has real trouble thinking for herself. This could be seen as one of the reasons for
her eventual downfall, due to her inability to analyse a strange, complicated pattern of events. She
is always accepting other people s views or advice, acting upon them, with no thought or
interpretation of what the results could be. This is one of the reasons why her suicide ... Show more

I shall the effect of this good lesson keep.
We can see in this opening scene Ophelia s instant inability to think for herself, accepting but also
willing to act upon the views, interpretation, and wishes of her brother. In the play there is a
recurring theme of conforming to the wishes of her family. However, this is not the interest as to
accept the wishes of your family was then, and is still accepted as completely normal, but it is
whether she is knowingly accepting her family to analyse and interpret for her or she is just
accepting the wishes of her family and doesn t have the capacity to think in terms of analysation
and interpretation
Another factor of Ophelia s character is the time in which the play was written. In this era (and I
would say up to the 1900 s) women were always treated as being inferior to men. They were
taught to obey the wishes of men as women were seen as having fewer life skills. They weren t
allowed to vote and had absolutely no role in society apart from mothering and looking after the
home. In this era women were always taught to be subordinate to men, and in this Ophelia can be
seen as the perfect woman in her first two scenes.
In Act 3 Scene 1 Shakespeare begins with Hamlet s soliloquy in which he contemplates the meaning
of life, with gratuitous references to death, life and suicide.

E Learning Systems Improve Employee Engagement
Today s way of training the workforce and providing employee engagement seems to be moving on
the high speed train of technology. With the consist demand of reducing expenditures and
increasing profit, businesses are needing to look at different ways to yield green on their bottom
line. Many businesses are looking at e learningsystems to enhance employee training and
engagement. E learning generally refers to the use of computer network technology, primarily
over an intranet or through the Internet, to deliver information and instruction to individuals (Lee,
Hsieh Chen, 2013). Does the high cost of electronic learning or virtual classrooms really hold up
to the hype? E learning, or online learning, systems are becoming vital within the workforce
today, and will continue to grow as technology advances; as a result, its success depends on how
employers and human resources staff support their employees and the use of e learning systems.
How a system is developed, implemented, and accepted will impact the overall success of any
transition to an e learning system, and also whether or not learning goals are met by both the
employer and employee.
Development of an e learning training system does not happen at the flip of a switch. Take for
instance Laura Hackett of MillerCoors University (Harris, 2015). Hackett was a veteran employee
and vice president at Miller Brewing Company when her CEO approached her with the instruction

Argumentative Essay On Processed Foods
Most Americans love the low cost, prepackaged, great tasting food that is convenient to buy and
prepare. These prepackaged or processed foods are normally made to be faster, cheaper and
usually taste great but they are loaded with bizarre, unpronounceable chemicals that, if you saw
them in their pre processed state, you would never consider putting in your mouth. Emulsifiers,
preservatives, colorants, stabilizers, artificial sweeteners, texturizers and even bleach can be
found in most processed foods. On average, Americans spend 90% of their food budget on these
types of foods which is found to contribute to the leading causes of obesity, auto immune disease,
diabetes and even cancer. Everywhere you look there is a rising concern for health from these
added ingredients. Let s take a look at tomatoes, Fresh tomatoes are considered to be very good

Analysis Of Timothy Beatley, And Heather Boyer Essay
This book is written by Peter Newman, while Timothy Beatley, and heather Boyer were the
coauthors. Together they examined the idea of a resilient city in 2009. The book defined
resilient as lasting, making it through a crisis, something that requires inner strength and
resolve, and having strong physical infrastructure and built environment. The book later states
that the main roadblock in the way of resilience is fear, and throughout the book they give many
examples where fear lead to a cities downfall. They also suggest that because of our resources
depleting rapidly we should really be acting now in order to make a change in order to save what
is left of them. The main objective of this book is to educate us on how we can make our cities
more resilient to this ever growing threat. The book starts by giving us(the readers) a vision for a
resilient city, but what the authors were really trying to convey is that they are trying to reduce oil
dependency, which will save this resource. They say reduction of oil dependency is a necessity,
they state that it will reduce impacts on the environment, and will reduce impact on human health
which will lead to reduced impacts on human health and will lead to greater economic gain
because they will depend on other sources of income rather than just oil. This will make the cities
more economically stable because they can get their money elsewhere if the cities would stop
depending on oil to bring in the cash flow.

Lao Tzu Vs. Machiavelli
Government
(Lao tzu V. Machiavelli) What is government? Government is the governing body of nation, state,
or community. Government determines the way any group of people are ran. There a several
different types of government used all around the world. In the United States for example, uses a
type of government that has three different branches of power. The Legislative Branch is the law
making branch. The Judicial branch is the courts and the low enforcement. Lastly, the Executive
branch is the presidential branch. Each has its own responsibilities and at the same time they
work together to make the country run smoothly and to assure that the rights of citizens are not
ignored or disallowed. (Osborne) Usually, governments break up the responsibilities into two or
more groups. Two very influential writers wrote about their views on government; Lao tzu and
Machiavelli. These writers were in very different times which makes it very interesting to
compare their views. Lao tzu and Machiavelli had very different views on the ultimate purpose
of government, the obligations of government leaders, and the main work of the state. To begin,
Lao tzu s and Machiavelli s views on the ultimate purpose of government are very different. First of
all, Lao tzu s idea of the purpose of government is more as a suggestion or a guide. Lao tzu believes
that government should not be a part of people s personal lives in any way shape or form. He
believes in a very simple type of government. He

And Then There Were None Mystery
What would you do if you were lured to an island by someone claiming to be an old friend, or
sent to complete a job? One by one someone is murdered. The murderer is one of the ten people
among you, and as one person dies that s one less person who is guilty. Would you be the person

In the book And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie
, the main mystery elements used were:
main conflict, setting, characterization, and the author s techniques of giving clues.
The main conflict in the story is person versus person, or the murders of the ten people who
were apparently murdered because they were guilty of a crime themselves. Everyone is killed in
a certain way, by the lyrics of a nursery rhyme hung in their bedrooms. (31). On the centerpiece of
the dining table there are ten indian boys, everyone thought it was very clever since the name of
the island they were staying on was Indian Island. That was until they realized each indian boy
represented one of them and as one person died one indian boy was taken off the centerpiece. (74)

Deception In A Scandal In Bohemia
Wit is defined as mental sharpness or inventiveness. In the Victorian age, women were supposed to
be inferior to men which is why this story is intriguing. In the short story , A Scandal In Bohemia ,
Conan uses the character Irene to portray how deception in one s character is commonly
overlooked, even by people who think there is nobody better than themselves.
During the Victorian era, there were gender and class issues. These play a huge part in A Scandal
In Bohemia . Conan wrote this story around the late 1800s and early 1900s. In England, men were
considered the man of the house, and women were to stay at home. Also, princes were to marry
royal and not break the royal bloodline. That was their standards.
Holmes is too smart for his own good. He could never love anyone more than he loves his work.
While his best friend, Watson, is very social and outgoing, ...Holmes...loathes every form of
society with his whole Bohemian soul... (Doyle 3). Holmes did more observing than creating real
relationships with people because he sees through everyone, and nobody deems worthy in his eyes.

Irene also challenged class issues in this short story. Irene s ...moral integrity in refusing to give into

Open Source Software vs. Microsoft Empire Essay
Open Source Software vs. Microsoft Empire
Introduction
I think that to try to own knowledge, to try to control whether people are allowed to use it, or to
try to stop other people from sharing it, is sabotage. It is an activity that benefits the person that
does it at the cost of impoverishing all of society. One person gains one dollars by destroying two
dollars worth of wealth. I think a person with a conscience wouldn t do that sort of thing except
perhaps if he would otherwise die.
Richard Stallman[1]

of any notion of commercial software. His idea is revolutionary but straightforward: software

Stallman s ideology in free software sharing inverts the mainstream commercial software industry,
which consider source code and underlying instructions are companies private properties. These
properties are usually guarded strictly and rarely shared under licensing terms. The most typical
example of such software companies is the software giant, Microsoft. It sells users the right of
using its software in terms of number of copies. In other words, it requires a separate license for
each Microsoft Windows that is installed on each computer. The company originally designed the
software owns the source code. All bug fixes to the software require a long and ineffective
reporting process. In addition, you have to pay a separate fee for any upgrades to the software year
after year.
Raise the ethical issue
As a result, there are overwhelming criticisms against Microsoft. People view Microsoft as an
unethical business entity by creating monopoly and using unfair tactics to control the software
market as a whole. Although it is important to realize that even Microsoft does not technically fit
the definition of monopoly, there is no doubt that it processes tremendous power in the software
industry. Along with this magical power, it could make influential decisions among governments
rules and regulations in terms of intellectual property laws and foreign trade policies. Thus, we

Some clan members, however, do rebel and burn some of the preachers shelters. This results in a
big meeting, both European and African. At the gathering the tribe members are told to decease
from any future acts of destruction or rebellion. Expecting his fellow people to support him,
Okonkwo kills their leader with his machete. However, when the crowd allows the other
Europeans to escape, Okonkwo realizes that his clan is not willing to go to war. Soon after the
murder, Okonkwo prideful character, and inability to accept defeat, results in his suicide. Heart of
Darkness and Things Fall Apart exemplify two different perspectives of African Literature. In Heart
of Darkness, Joseph Conrad shows the African Culture through the eyes of the white man or
colonizing Europeans. In this story the native Africans are depicted as vicious savages.
In response to Conrad s stereotypical depiction of Africans, Chinua Achebewrote Things Fall Apart
through the point of view of the natives to show Africans, not as primitives, but as members of a
thriving society. Things Fall Apart follows Okonkwo s life as he strives for prestige in his
community. When European missionaries come to Umuofia, Okonkwo s clan, Okonkwo tries to
protect the culture that the missionaries would destroy in the name of civilizing the natives.
However his rigid mentality and violent behavior has the opposite of its intended effect,
perpetuating the stereotype of the wild African in the eyes of the

Common Core State Standards Analysis
The Common Core State Standards provide clear and consistent learning goals to help prepare
students for college, career, and life, these standards clearly show what students are likely to learn
at each grade level, so that every parent and teacher can comprehend and provide support for the
students learning. It is stated that, these standards set grade specific goals, they do not express how
the standards should be taught or which resources should be used to support students . Many states
and local districts identify that there will need to be a variety of backings in place to confirm that
all students, (including those with special needs and English language learners), can master the
standards (Common Core State Standards Initiative).

The representation that the now common standards is supposed to reassure not only the teachers,
but that each and every student can prosper in an economy and population that is developing at a
rapid pace, and that will sustain throughout their lives. Several statistics show that this need to
better prepare students for college is an urgent one.
One of the most imperative objectives of the Common Core State Standards is that it gives the
needed information and assistances essential to thrive while in undergrad and or graduate school,
profession, and life. In order to decide and or see if the standards meet this objective was
determined with relating them to the best state ethics, observing them in affiliation to formerly
established college and career willingness standards, and having them revised by postsecondary
teachers who teach entry level courses (Conley, D. 2014). The academic impact will help to
prepare students for college and post secondary education and or jobs. The new standards gives the
teachers a chance, to measure each students growth during the course of the academic year, and

Male Dominance In Hollywood
Male dominance in Hollywood cinema was still very clear in films, but at the same time, many
films with women in the lead roles started to emerge most noticeably in the 20th century. These
roles were of real lead characters who represented real women. With contemporary films like
Twilight, Hunger Games, Gone Girl, Maleficent and Divergent, it s evident that female
protagonist films are successful in today s era. Box Office Mojo compared the box office gross
from top 25 films from 2006 to 2015, showed that films with women in casting grossed $126.1
million and films with men in casting grossed $80.6 million. However, this does not necessarily

Likewise, when The TwilightSaga premiered in 2001, the target audience were mainly teenagers
but also women. It tells the story of an 18 year old Bella who falls in love with a vampire.
Throughout the saga, Bella is in an uncertain position and instead of finding herself, she opts to
escape from them. And in order for her to be safe and challenge the reality, she has to have a
rescuer which is, Edward, a man. The author of the Twilight Saga books, Stephanie Meyer
answered the critics that Bella is not a negative example of women empowerment. The foundation
of feminism is this: being able to choose. Ultimately, its entirely up to Bella for what she does,
therefore it does make her a feminist (Ellis, 2014).
Later when Hunger Games series came out in 2012, it was considered to be the first film to be
revolutionary for stereotypical female roles in the mainstream cinema. Not only did the Hunger
Games break the stereotypes, but it is also a film which is one of the highest grossing films of all
times on the box office with a female protagonist. Hunger Games is about a 16 year old Katniss
Everdeen who is independent in all forms, which Twilight has never shown (Ellis,

The Conflict Theory Of Social Groups
Intergroup Competition is the idea that social groups will extend from the desire for a group to
gain the scarce resources that exist (36 40). This idea is greatly supported by the segment on
affirmative action in the video (36 40). As said in the movie, the idea is that scholarship money
and grant money is a scarce resource when students decide to go to college (37 40). In this view,
the individuals who are against affirmative actionare competing for that scarce resource (36 40).
By using techniques like affirmative action and racial and/or ethnic based scholarships present
the subordinate group s strive for power, and the arguments against these resources are the
dominant group s attempt to maintain their power (36 40). Moreover, the strive to gain these
programs is not just for their own individual self interest, but is for the interest of their social
group as a whole to maintain the group s desires (36 40). It is in this belief that s the Realistic
Conflict Theory resides (36 40). In this, their exists the view that this conflict for scarce resources
subsequently produces prejudice, in which a privileged group has a sense of group position and
strives to protect it (36 40). This is shown in the video by the idea of reverse racism, in which the
dominant group tries to grain pity for their loss of domination by saying that affirmative action
gives African Americans an unfair advantage, thus racially profiling the subordinate group while

The Passive and Pitiful Ethan Frome
Ethan Frome is a man torn between what he wants to do, and what he should do. Life in a rural

decides to marry his distant cousin, Zeena, his life turns down a long and lonesome road. Ethan s
lack of assertiveness and decisive action only worsens his already lonesome and stressful life.
Though too intelligent for rural life, Ethan finds himself stuck in an average man s shoes. Leaving
any opportunity he had to become someone in life, Ethan moves back to Starkfield to take care of
his ailing mother and attend to their farm(Wharton 29). Rather than living a lonesome ... Show more

Mattie Silver s arrival at the Frome household is everything Ethan needs. His lack of assertiveness
has led to his deep hatred of his wife and his life. He soon falls in love with young Mattie and when
Zeena decides it s time for her to go, Ethan hesitates to stand up for himself and Mattie. When he
is forced to take her away, he tells Mattie about a story similar to theirs(Wharton, 56); he offers the
chance for them to run away together, but Mattie declines. If Ethan had only made the decision for
them, or stood up to Zeena, his life would be much better off.
When Mattie is finally forced to go, Ethan faces the hardest decision he s ever had to make. Both
Mattie and he are in love with each other and neither of the two know what to do now that they
will be separated forever. Ethan decides to take Mattie to the train station instead of letting Jotham

Ethan takes Mattie sledding for the first time since she arrived in Starkfield(Wharton, 69). The fun
they had together while sledding only reminded them of what they would be missing when Mattie
finally had to leave. Faced with no where else to go, Mattie suggests to Ethan that they ride the sled
straight in to the big elm so that they ll never have to be apart again(Wharton, 71). Though Mattie

Reproduction technologies had an impact on the evolution of electro acoustic equipment. Schaeffer
s piece Etude aux Chemins (1948) was one of the first electronic compositions of the 20th century,
which became very influential to modern day sampling. Corporations responsible for the creation
of musical instruments in early 20th century had no vocation for economic suicide (p.7 Simon
Emmerson, 1986), this led to them only adjusting existing instruments, therefore it was not viable
for the creation of new inventions; it was not in their best interests. Our civilization sees itself too
smugly in the mirror of history; it is no longer creating the needs which would make renewal an
economic necessity (P.7 Simon Emmerson, 1986). th The first half of the 20 century saw
considerable progression within the domains of sound reproduction tools and the sizeable
escalation of the recording industries; this developed electronic technology and in turn, developed
new styles of vernacular music. This technological innovation laid the foundations for new
vernacular music such genres as rock, hip hop, etc. Due to this development, where the existence
relied on electronics to produce the sound, musicians started to embrace technology. This
combination of science and music started to form a complex connection. Prior to first
commercially available synthesizer, created by Robert moog, much electronic works were very

everyday life consists of human beings interacting with one another, their ideas, and emotions,
which can be called sociology of identification. We recognize and participate sociologically with

Eric Foner A Short History Of Reconstruction Analysis
Eric Foner s A Short History of Reconstruction is a shortened version of his Reconstruction:
America s Unfinished Revolution, 1863 1877; however, in the shorter version certain broad themes
unified the crucial narrative. His first theme is the midst of the black experience, second theme is to
trace the ways Southern society as a whole was remodeled, third theme is the evolution of racial
attitudes and patterns of race relations, and the fourth theme is the emergence during the Civil War
and Reconstruction. This narration of Reconstruction begins not in 1865, but with the
Emancipation Proclamation of 1863. This was done to stress the importance of the Proclamation in
unifying two major themes, grass roots black activity and the newly empowered national state and
to indicate that Reconstruction was the beginning of a broadened historical process: the adjustment
of American society to the end of slavery. Foner s A Short History of Reconstruction verifies the
authors prevailing leadership in historical revisionism. His extensive knowledge alters the scrutiny
of the historical standpoint, stimulating students and intellectuals to reconsider the assumptions of
prominent reconstruction works from foregoing eras such as those that influenced our
understanding of the Reconstruction era. Furthermore, Foner advises intellectuals to continue to
uncover neglected experiencesof the one of the most phenomenal eras in American history. Foner s
text provides a critical scheme for a more

The Value Of Other Forms Of Life
Module 1 Discussion B 3
A.Humans are superior to other forms of life.
Humans are mammals that walk and rule the earth. Asger Holbolth of North Carolina State
University and his colleagues arrived at a recently new estimate. Astonishingly, there is new fossil
evidence that links to our most common ancestor of humans on earthy anywhere from 2 million to
10 million years ago Hobolth said (Hobolth 2105).
B. Humans are in charge of the earth.
It is the responsibility of humans on earth to utilize the knowledge and wisdom and take care of
Mother Earth in a sustainable way. Scientist, Geographers, Anthropologist, Morphologist, GIS ers,
Scuba Divers, to perform research and develop procedures of preserving our valuable assets on
Earth. Which makes them large and in charge.
C. The value of other forms of life depends only on whether they are useful to humans.
Whether or not various forms of life are useful or non useful, they all have a right to inhabit the
earth. As shared in the Human Population Growth video, the St. Helena Olive may not seem to
have any use; however any green plant exudes oxygen to humans. The bacterium Fungi helps to
decompose a dead carcass in the rural land. All forms of life have something to contribute whether
we can see it with the natural eye or not.
D.Based on past extinctions and the history of life on earth over the last 3.5 billion years, biologist

Impact Of The Space Race
RQ: How and to what extent did the Space Race have a impact on United States s defense
technologies?
On October 4th, 1957 the Soviet Union launched the first ever satellite, Sputnik. The launch of
Sputnik sent the United States into a frenzy, beginning the Space Race, and the innovation of
technology as a whole. The Space Race most importantly had a major impact on the evolution of the
United States s defense technologies through the launch of Sputnik. The Space Race sparked the
United States battle for technological superiority against the USSR, and lead to improvizations in
their satellite and satellite defense technologies.
From a United States and Soviet Union perspective that conveys that the Space Race had a minor
impact on the improvisation of United States defense technologies; the Space Race was in a way
responsible for the United State s production of new technology of missiles and defense against
intercontinental ballistic missiles. In the late 1950s the United States Air Force started a series of
advanced strategic missile projects under the Weapon System WS 199A called Martin s Bold
Orion air launched ballistic missile (ALBM). Similar to ICBMs the purpose of the ALBM was to
destroy satellites sent into orbit that posed a intellectual and physical threat to the US. The ALBM
was created due to the increasing pressure that the Soviets were to launch a satellite before the
United States, and since the United States would not know of the capabilities of this

Niosh Equation Essay
The NIOSH equation has helped with predicting the risk of getting injured while lifting things.
The NIOSH equation helps determine what a weight should be for a lift for different tasks that
people do over there shift. The NIOSH equation is very important because back injuries are the
most common injury at work. The lower back area on people is the area where most people tend
to hurt while lifting items. The way the NIOSH equation works it helps determine a
recommended weight for a specific task (RWL) that a person would accomplish during their
normal workday which consists to be an 8 hour work day. The NIOSH equation for RWL is
determined by the equation RWL=LC x HM x VM x DM x AM x FM x CM. The equation is
based on six different areas. The six different acronyms mean: LC = How much an object
weighs, HM = the horizontal distance of a person s hands to what would be the midpoint of their
ankles, VM = is the distance between your hands to the floor when your hands are vertical, DM =
is the vertical distance between where the lift starts to the final placement of the lift, AM = Angle
of asymmetry, FM = Average rate of lifts done per minute and CM = is a... Show more content on

The second way would be that the LI is used to calculate roughly how much physical stress can
be expected from a job task and what the injury risks are for performing the job tasks with that

performing the job has a better chance of performing there tasks for their job safely without
hurting there back. It s also a good rule of thumb to compare at least two preferably more designs
for the same task. The last way is that the LI should be used to set priorities for tasks that need to
be relooked at for better ways to lift objects. The tasks should be rated and given a priority on how

  • 2. Hayden Vineyard Research Paper The life of Hayden Vineyard On the day of November 30,2000, Jennifer and Travis Vineyard s second son, Hayden Matthew, was born inside of a room at the University of Tennessee Hospital in Knoxville, Tennessee. I was born in November, but my parents were expecting me to be born in January of 2001, making me a premature. I was very small as a baby with only being 3 pounds and 15 ounces. I was the smallest baby in my family. As a baby I was hard to handle with not being able to breath on my own, my family was being hopeful that I would survive, the doctors weren t. And with a little bit of praying, I was able to start breathing on my own. Growing up I had a very joyful childhood filled with friends and sports. My dad used to tell me that I ... • 3. Dunlap V. Tennessee Valley Authority Essay Dunlap v. Tennessee Valley Authority Joyce Harrison Business Employment Law May 11, 2011 1. What were the legal issues in this case? The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit was to determine if the plaintiff, David Dunlap Dunlap, had met the burden of proof that the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) was liable under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 by intentionally discriminating against him under both disparate impact and disparate treatment analyses and whether the TVA appealto the District Court erred in each of these analyses could be legally supported to reverse their decision FindLaw, 2011). David Dunlap brought suit under Title VII, alleging racial discrimination by the TVA.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 3. Explain why the plaintiff s disparate treatment claim succeeded. The disparate treatment doctrine requires a plaintiff to demonstrate that an employer has treated some people less favorably than others because of their race, color, religion, sex, or national origin. Three provisions required to prove disparate treatment are (1) the plaintiff must establish a prima facie case of racial discrimination; (2) the employer must articulate some legitimate, nondiscriminatory reason for its actions, and (3) the plaintiff must prove that the stated reason was in fact pretextual. Proof of discriminatory motive is critical and may be inferred from the mere fact of differences in treatment. Proof may also be inferred from the falsity of the employer s explanation for the treatment, (Walsh, 2010). Mr. Dunlap successfully established a prima facie case of disparate treatment by meeting the above 3 provisions; (1) he was African American; (2) he was qualified for the position sought; and (3) white applicants with less experience were hired for 9 of the 10 open jobs. TVA attempted to rebut his claim by offering the selection matrix used during his interview as evidence to prove that he didn t rank as one of the top 10 applicants due to his interview scores. However, Mr. Dunlap was able to refute TVA s claim by demonstrating that his matrix score was manipulated to keep him out of top 10, thus proving it was merely a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Dancing With The Tiger Dancing with the Tiger by Lili Wright is by far one of the most energetic and exotic books I have read in a very long time. As soon as the book began with main character Anna using her tongue to sensually slipping her cheating fiancГ© her engagement ring during one of the most vital art shows of his career, I knew I was going to like Anna. Wright did such a wonderful job giving Anna s character a lot of guts and grit while still ensuring that the average womanwould be able to connect with her. After having her heart broken, Anna sets off to Mexico with three goals: avenge her and her father s careers by finding Montezuma s death mask, lay her mother to rest nearly 20 years after her death, and get over her scum of an ex fiancГ©. • 5. Gun Violence In America Gun Violence in the United States of America Every day there is another story in the news about excessive gun violence, accidents with guns involving children who found loaded guns in the house or unnecessary gun violence by police forces. Due to the US allowing and making it so easy for citizens to have guns and for their security forces to shoot without strict rules or consequences, lots of innocent people are killed without having any way to defend themselves. ICCPR US is in violation of their human rights obligations under article 6 of the ICCPR right to life because it s not protecting the lives of its citizens, it is allowing excessive gun violence (by police forces) and it has insufficient violations of guns by people who are not even supposed to possess guns. The US is especially in violation because it fails to control its police department on the use of gun violence. The International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) is an international treaty, which entered into force 23 March 1976. The United States of America signed the treaty in 1977 and ratified it in 1992. The main purpose of the ICCPR is to protect human rights, as it protects civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights. The ICCPR addresses the right to life and that nobody should be deprived of that right. However, the current gun violence in the United States is taking away the right to life. The body who interpreters the ICCPR is the Human Rights Committee, this is laid ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Specificity Of Inhibitory Impairments The Specificity Of Inhibitory Impairments In Autism And Their Relation To ADHD Type Symptoms Adam Scavo Des Moines Area Community College Children with autism are showing signs of ADHD type symptoms at younger ages. Attention Deficit/hyperactivity disorder, also known as ADHD is known to effect children more than it does adults, Population surveys suggest that ADHD occurs in most cultures in about 5% of children and about 2.5% of adults (American Psychiatric Association). ADHD mostly begins in the adolecent years of the life. The requirement that several symptoms be present before 12 years of age conveys the importance of a substantial clinical presentation during childhood. Autistic toddlers differ more strikingly from social norms; for example, they have less eye contact and turn taking, and do not have the ability to use simple movements to express themselves, such as pointing at things. In recent years, reported frequencies for autism spectrum disorder across U.S. and non U.S. countries have approached 1% of the population, with similar estimates in childhood and adult samples. It remains unclear whether higher rates reflect and expansion of the diagnostic criteria of DSM IV to include subthreshold cases, increased awareness, differences in study methodology, or a true increase in the frequency of autism spectrum disorder (American Psychiatric Association). There have been many studies that have correlated the link between autism and ADHD type symptoms. A test done by Charlotte Sanderson and Melissa L. Allen showed the correlation of ADHD symptoms and Autism Spectrum Disorder. They used three tests to study the children that they were using in this experiment, the first was the Go/No go task followed by the Dog Pig Stroop test and finally the flanker test. The Go/ No go task is where they used four shapes (square, circle, triangle, and diamond) and the children were told to press a large star shaped button corresponding to three of the shapes, while resisting the fourth shape. The trial had time limits of 1000 ms before automatic termination of the trial, after the termination of the trial there was a 1,100 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Nevertheless, they have adhered to different philosophy, doctrines, and practices. According to the work of Saber Uddiyan the samaṇā are, [T]hose engaging in spiritual exercises. Insert Colin Kaepernick who started kneeling during the anthem to bring awareness against social injustice to minorities in the 2016 season. When asked why he refused to stand for the anthem during a pre season game he explained, I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color. ... There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder. This initial protest and statement created a firestorm over the next two seasons where many players and even entire teams decided to join Kaepernick s protest. That said my opinion is inconsequential in the grand scheme of things. It has been called out that these owners are suppressing free speech and it is unconstitutional. While the first amendment is the bedrock of our society, the owners are completely within their rights. You see when they go to work there are company personal conduct guidelines, same as every American working today. These policies dictate what we can and cannot do, where we can do them, and when. • 11. Lord Of The Flies And Human Nature Essay Human nature defines the general psychological behaviors of humans when in a primitive or natural state. In the movies and books in this course human nature is a very prevalent theme and controls the events throughout. In The Mist by Stephen King, the characters start out with their civility and slowly break down and do things that show they will do anything to survive. In Lord of the Flies by William Golding, the boys get stranded on an island and use a form of order to keep their civilized lives intact but soon turn to savagery and destruction. Another example of human nature is in the short story film of The Shelter from The Twilight Zone. The neighbors in the 1960 s are great friends until there is supposed to be a missile strike that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They begin with electing a leader that will guide them to survive and eventually be rescued. This character is Ralph, and he stands for civilization and wanting to be saved from this tragedy. Only days after this so called election, a few boys realize they need to hunt and kill for meat to survive. They lose all thought of being rescued. Just within a matter of days these boys were a group of savages, dancing around fires, sharpening hunting and killing spears, and attacking Ralph and whoever else continued to live with a civilized manner. These boys were finally free of any adult supervision or authority and wanted to act like human nature intends, with the thought of living at the top of the food chain and surviving in the face of death being their only priority. Towards the end of the story the group of savage boys, who called themselves a tribe, murdered the character Piggy . This character represented the hope of civilization for the stranded group of boys. He was the only one who saw their situation for what it really was. When he was killed, Ralph even lost hope and began to fight and run to survive. One becomes restless and overactive shortly after using cocaine, but with excessive use, cocaine intoxication can lead to death (Adult Health Advisor, 2005). The four stages of cocaine intoxication are cocaine euphoria, cocaine disphoria, cocaine hallucinosis and cocaine psychosis. It has been noted that cocaine intoxication closely resembles a psychiatric disorder. In the movie, The Boost , the main character Lenny Brown goes through each stage of cocaine psychosis and examples of his progression can be seen in the movie. Other symptoms include anxiety, sadness, apathy, irritability and sexual indifference. Contrast to cocaine euphoria, individuals feel tired and want sleep, but cannot fall asleep. Users in this stage also have strong cravings for more cocaine to return to the increased pleasure and energy in stage one. As the movie moves forward, so does Lenny s experience with cocaine intoxication. In the bar scene when he is waiting for the dealer with his wife, he is irritated with the dealer for being late, even though his wife is relatively unaffected by having to wait. Also, one can see how Lenny craves more cocaine once he is out of the hospital. He was just released for overdosing on cocaine, but as soon as he gets in the car with his wife, he asks her if she has any. Another example to show how desperate Lenny is to obtain more cocaine and try to impress people is by stealing $20,000 from his boss. As one moves into stage three, the symptoms and affects start to become more severe and dangerous. This third stage is referred to as cocaine hallucinosis. In this stage, individuals experience hallucinations and delusions. Hallucinations are sensory experiences that occur in the absence of actual stimulation (Kassin, 2004, 654.) Leeson had proven to be an effective and efficient worker when he was tasked to get bear bonds sorted on his first solo tasking with Barings Bank in Jakarta. While Leeson did not personally exhibit any of the red flags typical of someone committing fraud, such as financial difficulties, living beyond his means, or family problems, the work environment threw up red flags. With management based in London, Leeson had little direct oversight. Barings was okay with this because of the profit that Leeson was generating for the bank. Control Activities The Accounting Information Systems book recommends seven types of control activities that can prevent fraud. These include: Proper authorization of transactions and activities, segregation of duties, project development and acquisition controls, change management controls, design and use of documents and records, safeguarding assets, records, and data, and finally independent checks on performance. These control activities should have been in place to prevent the fraud from occurring. Many of those control activities were ineffectively operating in Leeson s office. Use of proper authorization of transactions was supposed to happen, but there was no validation of who authorized a deal. Barings gave Leeson much responsibility, and there was no segregation of duties, which gave him the ability to commit and conceal his fraud. Verification that documents were ... It has provided a platform for wireless cellular communication. According to an article, it was first believed that The wireless telephone will also cover the seas, lakes and waterways, supplementing the wireless telegraph over short distances (Burt, 1908, para. 3). If only he knew that wireless telegraph will become a thing of the past. The first effective radio communication system was developed by Guglielmo Marconi, an Italian inventor, and scientist (Guglielmo Marconi Biography, n.d.). Marconi never had any formal scientific education (Bababian, 1992), but has been the recipient of honorary doctorates of several universities (Guglielmo Marconi Biographical, 2013, para. 8). He began experimenting with electromagnetic waves in 1894 when he was twenty years old. However, Nikola Tesla is now credited with being the first person to patent radio technology; the Supreme Court overturned Marconi s patent in 1943 in favour of Tesla. (Bellis, n.d., para. 6) . In the 1930 s radios were commonly found in households as a source for entertainment and news. Since then, radio technology has advanced significantly since its early days, especially to the sound quality and it s ability to travel great distances. This form of entertainment is supported by the use of carrier waves. These waves travel at the speed of light (Abbot and Rider, 1957). Carrier waveforms are the different ... Examples Of Mixed Race In Chesnutt In the novel, Chesnutt uses mixed race characters, which have both black and white ancestors and these characters display the conflicts between black and white societies. Within the novel, Janet Miller is the best example of a mixed race character. Janet s father was from the white aristocracy, while her mother was a slave and a servant. Janet is emotionally hurt because she doesn t receive the same affection like white half sister. She views herself as black and submits to the segregation of the time. In comparison to societal views, Olivia Carteret also cannot view her sister as an equal which is incredibly sad. Janet s angry compassion for her white sister sets the novel s climax and represents hope for equality between the races. The Millers are well educated and were brought up in the white world where they exclude themselves from the poor and uneducated members within the society. However, the whites within society do not welcome them due to their racebecause they think that Africans lack sense of purity. When exploring the complexity of mixed races in the South Chesnutt describes, looking at these two men with the American eye, the differences would perhaps be the more striking, or at least the more immediately apparent, for the first was white and the second black, or, more correctly speaking, brown...but both his swarthy complexion and his curly hair revealed what has been described in the laws of some of our states as a visible admixture of African blood ... Rama s purpose was to destroy Ravana... abolish fear... and establish peace, gentleness, and goodness in the world. (Narayan 1972: 63). From the beginning Ophelia is an obedient character who has real trouble thinking for herself. However, this is not the interest as to accept the wishes of your family was then, and is still accepted as completely normal, but it is whether she is knowingly accepting her family to analyse and interpret for her or she is just accepting the wishes of her family and doesn t have the capacity to think in terms of analysation and interpretation Another factor of Ophelia s character is the time in which the play was written. In this era (and I would say up to the 1900 s) women were always treated as being inferior to men. They were taught to obey the wishes of men as women were seen as having fewer life skills. They weren t allowed to vote and had absolutely no role in society apart from mothering and looking after the home. In this era women were always taught to be subordinate to men, and in this Ophelia can be seen as the perfect woman in her first two scenes. These prepackaged or processed foods are normally made to be faster, cheaper and usually taste great but they are loaded with bizarre, unpronounceable chemicals that, if you saw them in their pre processed state, you would never consider putting in your mouth. Emulsifiers, preservatives, colorants, stabilizers, artificial sweeteners, texturizers and even bleach can be found in most processed foods. On average, Americans spend 90% of their food budget on these types of foods which is found to contribute to the leading causes of obesity, auto immune disease, diabetes and even cancer. Everywhere you look there is a rising concern for health from these added ingredients. Let s take a look at tomatoes, Fresh tomatoes are considered to be very good for you and aid to help prevent cancer, the canned ones not so much. Canned processed foods are a concern because of the material the can is made of. The lining of almost all canned foods contain a chemical called BPA. Studies show that BPA affects the way genes work inside the brain. Tomatoes are exceptionally dangerous due to the high acidic level. The acid reacts to the BPA making the chemical transfer into the tomatoes instead of staying in the lining of the can. Together they examined the idea of a resilient city in 2009. The book defined resilient as lasting, making it through a crisis, something that requires inner strength and resolve, and having strong physical infrastructure and built environment. The book later states that the main roadblock in the way of resilience is fear, and throughout the book they give many examples where fear lead to a cities downfall. They also suggest that because of our resources depleting rapidly we should really be acting now in order to make a change in order to save what is left of them. The main objective of this book is to educate us on how we can make our cities more resilient to this ever growing threat. The book starts by giving us(the readers) a vision for a resilient city, but what the authors were really trying to convey is that they are trying to reduce oil dependency, which will save this resource. They say reduction of oil dependency is a necessity, they state that it will reduce impacts on the environment, and will reduce impact on human health which will lead to reduced impacts on human health and will lead to greater economic gain because they will depend on other sources of income rather than just oil. This will make the cities more economically stable because they can get their money elsewhere if the cities would stop depending on oil to bring in the cash flow. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Government determines the way any group of people are ran. There a several different types of government used all around the world. In the United States for example, uses a type of government that has three different branches of power. The Legislative Branch is the law making branch. The Judicial branch is the courts and the low enforcement. Lastly, the Executive branch is the presidential branch. Each has its own responsibilities and at the same time they work together to make the country run smoothly and to assure that the rights of citizens are not ignored or disallowed. (Osborne) Usually, governments break up the responsibilities into two or more groups. Two very influential writers wrote about their views on government; Lao tzu and Machiavelli. These writers were in very different times which makes it very interesting to compare their views. Lao tzu and Machiavelli had very different views on the ultimate purpose of government, the obligations of government leaders, and the main work of the state. To begin, Lao tzu s and Machiavelli s views on the ultimate purpose of government are very different. First of all, Lao tzu s idea of the purpose of government is more as a suggestion or a guide. The company originally designed the software owns the source code. All bug fixes to the software require a long and ineffective reporting process. This idea is greatly supported by the segment on affirmative action in the video (36 40). As said in the movie, the idea is that scholarship money and grant money is a scarce resource when students decide to go to college (37 40). In this view, the individuals who are against affirmative actionare competing for that scarce resource (36 40). Eric Foner A Short History Of Reconstruction Analysis Eric Foner s A Short History of Reconstruction is a shortened version of his Reconstruction: America s Unfinished Revolution, 1863 1877; however, in the shorter version certain broad themes unified the crucial narrative. His first theme is the midst of the black experience, second theme is to trace the ways Southern society as a whole was remodeled, third theme is the evolution of racial attitudes and patterns of race relations, and the fourth theme is the emergence during the Civil War and Reconstruction. This narration of Reconstruction begins not in 1865, but with the Emancipation Proclamation of 1863. This was done to stress the importance of the Proclamation in unifying two major themes, grass roots black activity and the newly empowered national state and to indicate that Reconstruction was the beginning of a broadened historical process: the adjustment of American society to the end of slavery. Foner s A Short History of Reconstruction verifies the authors prevailing leadership in historical revisionism. His extensive knowledge alters the scrutiny of the historical standpoint, stimulating students and intellectuals to reconsider the assumptions of prominent reconstruction works from foregoing eras such as those that influenced our understanding of the Reconstruction era. Furthermore, Foner advises intellectuals to continue to uncover neglected experiencesof the one of the most phenomenal eras in American history. Foner s text provides a critical scheme for a more ... • 55. The Value Of Other Forms Of Life Module 1 Discussion B 3 A.Humans are superior to other forms of life. Humans are mammals that walk and rule the earth. Asger Holbolth of North Carolina State University and his colleagues arrived at a recently new estimate. Astonishingly, there is new fossil evidence that links to our most common ancestor of humans on earthy anywhere from 2 million to 10 million years ago Hobolth said (Hobolth 2105). B. Humans are in charge of the earth. It is the responsibility of humans on earth to utilize the knowledge and wisdom and take care of Mother Earth in a sustainable way. Scientist, Geographers, Anthropologist, Morphologist, GIS ers, Scuba Divers, to perform research and develop procedures of preserving our valuable assets on Earth. Which makes them large and in charge. C. The value of other forms of life depends only on whether they are useful to humans. Whether or not various forms of life are useful or non useful, they all have a right to inhabit the earth. As shared in the Human Population Growth video, the St. Helena Olive may not seem to have any use; however any green plant exudes oxygen to humans. The bacterium Fungi helps to decompose a dead carcass in the rural land. All forms of life have something to contribute whether we can see it with the natural eye or not. D.Based on past extinctions and the history of life on earth over the last 3.5 billion years, biologist hypothesize that all forms of life eventually become extinct, and we should not ... • 56. Impact Of The Space Race RQ: How and to what extent did the Space Race have a impact on United States s defense technologies? On October 4th, 1957 the Soviet Union launched the first ever satellite, Sputnik. The launch of Sputnik sent the United States into a frenzy, beginning the Space Race, and the innovation of technology as a whole. The Space Race most importantly had a major impact on the evolution of the United States s defense technologies through the launch of Sputnik. The Space Race sparked the United States battle for technological superiority against the USSR, and lead to improvizations in their satellite and satellite defense technologies. From a United States and Soviet Union perspective that conveys that the Space Race had a minor impact on the improvisation of United States defense technologies; the Space Race was in a way responsible for the United State s production of new technology of missiles and defense against intercontinental ballistic missiles. In the late 1950s the United States Air Force started a series of advanced strategic missile projects under the Weapon System WS 199A called Martin s Bold Orion air launched ballistic missile (ALBM). Similar to ICBMs the purpose of the ALBM was to destroy satellites sent into orbit that posed a intellectual and physical threat to the US. The ALBM was created due to the increasing pressure that the Soviets were to launch a satellite before the United States, and since the United States would not know of the capabilities of this ... • 57. Niosh Equation Essay The NIOSH equation has helped with predicting the risk of getting injured while lifting things. The NIOSH equation helps determine what a weight should be for a lift for different tasks that people do over there shift. The NIOSH equation is very important because back injuries are the most common injury at work. The lower back area on people is the area where most people tend to hurt while lifting items. The way the NIOSH equation works it helps determine a recommended weight for a specific task (RWL) that a person would accomplish during their normal workday which consists to be an 8 hour work day. The NIOSH equation for RWL is determined by the equation RWL=LC x HM x VM x DM x AM x FM x CM. The equation is based on six different areas. The six different acronyms mean: LC = How much an object weighs, HM = the horizontal distance of a person s hands to what would be the midpoint of their ankles, VM = is the distance between your hands to the floor when your hands are vertical, DM = is the vertical distance between where the lift starts to the final placement of the lift, AM = Angle of asymmetry, FM = Average rate of lifts done per minute and CM = is a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The second way would be that the LI is used to calculate roughly how much physical stress can be expected from a job task and what the injury risks are for performing the job tasks with that lifting procedure. The rule of thumb for again is that if the LI value is smaller a person performing the job has a better chance of performing there tasks for their job safely without hurting there back. It s also a good rule of thumb to compare at least two preferably more designs for the same task. The last way is that the LI should be used to set priorities for tasks that need to be relooked at for better ways to lift objects. The tasks should be rated and given a priority on how sever the task to help determine which task should be looked at ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
