Essay Works Cited
Writing an essay on the topic of "Essay Works Cited" may pose certain challenges that require
careful consideration and attention to detail. The difficulty lies in the need for a comprehensive
understanding of citation styles, such as APA, MLA, Chicago, or others, depending on the
academic requirements. Crafting a works cited page involves meticulous formatting, accurate
referencing, and adherence to the specific guidelines outlined by the chosen citation style.
One of the challenges is ensuring that each source cited in the essay is correctly formatted,
including the author's name, title, publication date, and other relevant details. The precise
arrangement of entries and the proper use of punctuation marks demand a keen eye for detail.
Additionally, keeping abreast of any updates or changes to citation rules is crucial to maintaining
accuracy.
Another difficulty arises in managing a variety of source types, such as books, articles, websites,
or multimedia, each with its unique set of citation rules. Striking the right balance between
providing enough information for readers to locate the sources and avoiding overloading the
works cited page requires a delicate touch.
Moreover, there is the challenge of maintaining consistency throughout the essay. The
information presented in the works cited page should align seamlessly with the citations within
the essay, ensuring a coherent and professional presentation. Any inconsistencies or inaccuracies
could impact the overall credibility of the work.
In conclusion, crafting an essay on the topic of "Essay Works Cited" requires a high level of
attention to detail, a thorough understanding of citation styles, and the ability to navigate the
intricacies of formatting. It is a task that demands precision, diligence, and a commitment to
maintaining the highest standards of academic integrity.

Preeclampsia Pregnancy-Induced Syndrome
Preeclampsia/Eclampsia is a complicated pregnancy induced syndrome that usually
occurs after the 20th week of gestation. Together with gestational hypertension, the
continued presence of chronic hypertension, and the superimposition of preeclampsia
on chronic hypertension, preeclampsia is one of the four categories of hypertensive
disorders during pregnancy, which affect 5% 10% of all pregnancies [1].
Preeclampsia is a leading cause of maternal mortality and morbidity, as well as a
major cause of adverse effects on fetal well being both worldwide and in the US.
Specifically, one third of severe maternal morbidities, 10% 15% maternal death in
low /middle income countries and 15% of preterm birth is attributed to preeclampsia
[1 3]. The diagnostic criteria of preeclampsia has been changing during the past two
decades (Table 1). The most recent guidelines for hypertensionduring pregnancy by

Pathologic laboratory study showed that renal biopsy samples from women with
preeclampsia are different from the mechanistic damage from high blood pressure,
which also implies that preeclampsia is a disorder beyond pregnancy induced
hypertension [14].
Acute pathological changes, such as organ hemorrhage and necrosis, to women with
preeclampsia will revert to normal soon after delivery, which suggests that unique
features of pregnancy lead to the change. Previous research supports that
preeclampsia is the consequence of reduced placental perfusion, which is suspected to
be caused by abnormalities in implantation and vascular remodeling. As a result, there
is reduced blood flow to organs other than the placenta, thus causing hemorrhage and
necrosis to multiple organ systems including liver, kidney, brain and intervillous space

Now lets us look into Australia strategic environment before discussing in depth by
delineates the impact of globalization in relation to its strategic perspective.
The Impact of Globalisation
The world is undeniably experiencing profound and rapid change. While the
international world system is dynamic, globalization is accelerating the movement of
ideas and technologies and advertently exposing Australia to a new strategic
environment framework such as increased the interdependency between countries
and made borders more porous, increased of the potency of the terrorist threat,
increase the complexity of the potential danger of WMD proliferation[3].
Globalisation has accelerated the trends which have a significant impact on security
policy matters, defense capability and decision making due to increased
unpredictability and uncertainty; the technology revolution has led to a diffusion of
technology at a faster tempo, particularly in the areas of information and
communications; existing of asymmetric threats such as terrorism or WMD have
reduced the value of defenses built around geographic advantage; non state players
quite often in some circumstances, constitute a strategic threat such as new form of
transnational terrorist organisations, with no state allegiance and new types of
weapons and tactics ; and borders as security barriers are now
Stereotypes Of Immorality, Action Thriller
AMBITIONS OF IMMORTALITY is an original sci fi, action thriller. The plot
explores man s need for immortality. The script also explores the theme of machine
vs. man, as well as man s need to survive. The moral question of how far man
should take technology and play the role of God is also examined. These are solid
themes.
With that said, the script would benefit from more development. The opening sets
the tone for a sci fi thriller; however, the opening needs to be more visual to engage
the audience. There s a tendency to tell the story vs. visually show the action of the
characters. For example in the opening, it s not clear what type of animal the doctor
is experimenting with. It s not visual enough to understand how the animal is different

While the dialogue reveals some information about the characters, the dialogue also
tends to sound on the nose and un natural.
Avoid repetitive dialogue. There are many scenes in which Sweet repeats his goal for
immortality. Overall, the script is heavily dominated by dialogue. Some scenes feel
too long, such as the birthday sequence.
The overall tension will be intensified if there s a stronger foe. Consider creating
some form of a ticking clock tension or urgency to the plot. Stronger tension and
suspense needs to drive the entire plot. Elevate the tone to fit with a thriller.
The professional presentation can be polished. As mentioned, there s a strong
tendency to tell and explain the story vs. showing it. This occurs throughout the
entire script. Instead of saying that Sweet s love towards Casper is established: show
it visually. When he tries to take off his metal plate, but can t, show what being
angered looks like visually.
There are a few other minor typos and formatting errors. The narrative descriptions
should be short (not full sentences) and visual. For example, at the birthday party
Sweet is described several times as being
Canadian Foreign Policy Essay
Canadian Foreign Policy
Introduction
As the 20th century comes to an end, Canada is a transcontinental nation whose
interests and representatives span the face of the globe and extend into every sphere
of human behaviour. However this was not always the case. When the four colonies
of British North America united to create Canada on July 1, 1867, the new country s
future was by no means secure. Canada was a small country, with unsettled borders,
vast empty spaces, and a large powerful neighbour, the United States. Confronting
these challenges was difficult for the young country. Though Canada was independent
in domestic matters, Britain retained control over its foreign policy. Over the next
fifty or so years, Canada s leaders and its ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nevertheless the government soon found that even such a prosaic agenda required
the beginnings of a system of Canadian representation abroad, most notably in the
mother country. All correspondence between Ottawa and London passed through the
Governor General who was described as the human link in the imperial chain. 5
It was in the weary war years of Mackenzie King in the 1930 s when the
development of Canadian foreign policy started to take shape. Before that period
Canada did not have an independent foreign policy with no international presence
whatsoever and Canadian people saw themselves as part of the British dynasty.
The first period in the formulation of Canadian foreign policy was in fact the
absence of policy and it was World War 1 which gave birth to foreign policy. Sixty
thousand Canadians were lost which left Canadians wary of international
development especially when there were very few military objectives. Canada had
minimal control over her own troops and negotiations with the British were a
challenge. Our troops were under control of the British and negotiating with the
British was challenging. Looking back, there was almost a sense of absurdity about
WW1. Therefore, Canadians came out of WW1 with a stronger than ever desire for
independence. The Statute of Westminster, 1931, was the last of the Imperial Acts of
the Parliament of Great Britain applicable to all dominions. It granted Canada,

Regulatory Framework NELP (New Exploration Licensing Policy) is the new
government policy which is to have a direct impact on the E P activity in India and
an indirect effect on the refining sector. This is to promote the participation of
foreign companies in India and have a check on the on the rising crude bill. In India
one of the major problems is the price control that the government has over selling

though this is done in the larger interest of the nation. The government is also

Santiago s Unlucky
The Old Man and the Sea is a fictional story written by Ernest Hemingway about an
elderly Cuban fisherman named Santiago, who ventures out to sea to catch fish to
sell in the city of Havana. The story takes place after the eighty four day unlucky
streak that the old man had not catching fish and being looked down upon by many
of the younger fishermen in his village, referring to him as salao, which was the
worst form of unlucky. Despite this quickly gained reputation by the younger
fishermen in the village, a young boy from the village named Manolin, who
Santiago had taught to fish when he was very young, remained loyal to him and
continued to greet Santiago each day after returning from fishing, and also helped
him carry his gear and sail back to his hut each night. Manolin used to fish with
Santiago, but after forty days of not catching fish, Manolin was ordered by his
parents to fish on another boat in the village, which was regarded as a lucky boat.
However, Manolin continued to help Santiago with various duties, such as catching
bait, bringing him food, and looking over him each night. In fact, Manolin was so
loyal to Santiago that he offered to defy his parent s orders and fish with Santiago
again, in order to help him end his unlucky streak. But Santiago refused his help and
told him to remain on the current boat... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

love of baseball began to grow in Cuba during the late 1800s, and by the time of the

pastime, much like, say, hockey in Canada or soccer (football) in Brazil. So an old

Final Girl Essay
All types of horror films are designed to unfold our most horrible fears and
insecurities that lie deep within. It successfully focuses on the bizarre and illicit side
of life that frights us by playing around our nightmares, vulnerability, and fears of the
indefinite. However, despite how chaotic and terrifying these films are, the horror
genre still attracts and repel us. We crave to see the numerous filmvillains overtake
our nightmares and then be defeated by a particular Final Girl who normally places
society back to its stagnant normality.
The Final Girl is usually beautiful, selfless, brave, and sexually appealing. With
using the sole survivor to be a girl, it places horror cinema in a unique film category

It officially began during the classical period in 1974, however with Alfred
Hitchcock s Psycho providing early inspiration, some say that slasher films began
in 1960 (Horror). Some defining features that this particular sub genre pertains is
its villain, final girl, and storyline. The villain is a single person and is usually a
male with inhumane characteristic traits; he is generally indestructible
impermeable to bullets, explosions, drowning and beatings. He also has no motive
or sympathetic behavior, simply a sociopathic mentality (Seth Millstein). As for
his victims, they are almost always teens whom he catches in a location that holds
history relating to the killer which sets the storyline for the film and it is also
normally related to the victim as well (Horror). His killings are gruesome and
violent however the killer will rarely use a gun as a weapon because a gun will end
one s life abruptly, so blunt objects or knives are usually the weapon of choice
(Horror). Despite his weapon of choice, it does not stop the lone survivor from facing
him which is always a woman known to be the final girl. These three components
together hold a great impact on the audience throughout the film since it not only
attacks their veiled fears but it unravels as well throughout the viewing until the very
Giant Panda Bear Research Paper
Giant Panda Bears (Aliuropoda melanoleuca) are by far the cutest mammal alive
and can be the most stubborn when it deals with certain behaviors. Panda are
considered to become extinct due to the fact that they are starving because bamboo
is dying and they take a long time to germinate (National geographic 2016). In order
to save the species from becoming extinct, some Giant PandaBears are captured so
they can mate with other Panda Bearto produce more offspring. One may think that
the panda bears that are kept in captivity can easily mate with other panda bear but
that is not the case. Giant Panda bears are particular when it comes to their partners

When observing secondary sources, they were much easier to understand
compared to primary sources. Most of the information that was included in the
paper came from secondary sources. When comparing Giant panda scent marking,
the secondary source made it clear that they were used to attract the other mate and
to let them know they are here and are ready to mate. The primary resource goes
into more details explaining that scent markings are not random and that pandas
choose a certain tree based on specific characteristics. The primary source starts
talking about how animals in general do not have an unlimited supply of chemo
signals to mark the whole entire forest so there are researchers that can produce
these chemo signals in the laboratory but some are rather expensive to make (Nie et
al. 2012). The primary source goes into farther details by exploring both male and
female scent marking to determine if there s a sex a difference in the scent marking.
For the primary sources, the scientific article includes an abstract, introduction,
methods, statistical analysis, results, and conclusions. The primary source for scent
markings shows a table with the tree description including how rough the tree is, the
diameter of the tree, and whether the tree has moss or not. The secondary source
does not tell you any details about the tree and only tells you that a tree was used for
The Importance Of Education For A Company s Chief...
Although schooling is extremely important it is not the only thing people need in
order to become a company s chief executive. There are many skills that are helpful
to have in this particular career. A person must be organized because of all the
planning they will have to be doing, have patience due to the stressful obstacles that
will surely be in the way, which ties in directly with problem solving. Also, they
would be dealing with a lot of people so speaking skills and communication is
something that they can definitely not struggle with. The abilities a chief executive
must obtain are written expression, speech clarity and recognition, written
composition and deductive reasoning, and oral comprehension (O Net). All of which
will help move a person move ahead of competitive peers.
When the group discussed relocating to other states Florida and New York were our
top choices. The Bureau of Labor Statistics say that 13,970 people are currently are
employed as chief executives in Florida. For entry positions the average pay is
$202,300 a year. This is very good pay however, the growth level in the next five to
ten years is barely 2.4% (Bureau of Labor Statistics). Which is not very promising
for a person with this career goal in mind. In New York, they currently employ
17,060 people as this type of executive. The Bureau of Labor Statistics also says
they have a better growth rate at 3.8%, but still not very promising for those going
into this career. The pay in New York is

our obligation to protect the environment (e.g., plants, animals, habitat, ecosystem

the quotes I gave you? What do you think? If so, how does that play into our
responsibility to conserve and restore the environment? If not, why not?

riverine wetland systems, respectively which serve an important role in the local
ecology. They provide a stop for birds along the Pacific Flyway, nesting and foraging
areas for endangered species and serve as a fish hatchery.

The Optimization Of Cloud Computing Essay
With the increasing number of users of cloud, the load/ traffic also increases and it
becomes important to have some techniques to balance the load equally among all
the nodes, so that the user doesn t suffer and the services are delivered effectively
and efficiently. Therefore the need for Load Balancing algorithms arises. There are a
number of techniques available for load balancing. In this paper, different kinds of
load balancing algorithms in cloud computing along with the challenges and the
qualitative metrics for the various load balancing algorithms are presented.

1. Introduction The definition of Cloud Computing as issued by the U.S. National
Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) September, 2011 is: Cloud computing
is a model for enabling ubiquitous, convenient, on demand network access to a shared
pool of configurable computing resources (e.g., networks, servers, storage,
applications, and services) that can be rapidly provisioned and released with minimal
management effort or service provider interaction. This cloud model is composed of
five essential characteristics, three service models, and four deployment models.
Cloud computing is a type of Internet based computing that provides shared computer

The Sexuality Of The Victorian Century
In modern day America and many other countries, it is common for women to
express their sexuality. Trends such as crop tops and high waisted shorts have
allowed this to be acceptable to society. During the 19th century Victorian era,
behaviors like such would be outrageous and horrifying. In that time, sexuality was
especially feared. Women were viewed as domestic goddesses; their only desire
was to care for the family and fulfill their husband s needs. It became quite common
that women came to also have anxiety over their sexuality. This is clearly seen in
Draculathrough Lucy s diary entries. Despite her ultimate transformation into a
sensual character, she begins as a woman hiding her sexual cravings. In his gothic
novel, Dracula, Bram Stokeruses the title character to expose the repressed sexuality
of the other characters, especially the females, criticizing the beliefs of the
Victorian Era about woman as sexless figures. Throughout the novel, Lucy and
Mina embark on a transformation from ideal Victorian woman to vampires. This
represents them crossing the line between conservative women to sexual beings.
Even in Lucy s most domestic state, she expresses a desire for sex. In one day,
Lucy is proposed to by three different men. Overjoyed by these proposals she states,
Why can t they let a girl marry three men, or as many as want her, and save all this
trouble? But this is heresy, and I must not say it (Stoker 80). Essentially, Lucy is
stating that she would like to

Sunwind A.B. A Case Study
Introduction
On November 14, 2000 Olav Larsson, Managing Director of Sunwind, eased back
in his seat as his A380 climbed away from Tokyo s Narita Airport to begin the 17
hour flight to Gothenburg, Sweden. He was returning from a 10 day trip to Japan
where he had visited factories of Nissan and Mazda as well as a number of their
parts suppliers. This visit had reinforced his conviction that Sunwind should initiate a
proposal to Volvo, its major customer, that Just In Time delivery of floor lids1 be

Average weekly requirements in 2001 were expected to approach 1,400 units. Lars
estimated Sunwind s current single shift capacity at approximately 1,250 units/week.
To achieve this, he had hired an additional 20 people at the beginning of August and
established three shift operations on a numerically controlled milling machine used to
shape plywood parts.
Effective capacity was actually less than 1,250 units/week due to equipment
failures, e.g. the gluing machine had proved particularly troublesome and had
increased rejects. Recent causes of the rejects included seeping through the
carpeting that covered the plywood forms. Volvo had also rejected a shipment of
floor lids due to differences in the shade of carpeting covering the four separate
pieces which made up a floor lid.
Such difficulties could not have come a worse time, when Lars was already
concerned by the world wide trend of major manufacturers in the automobile
industry to rely on fewer suppliers. He knew that Toyota, which industry observers
continually cited for its productivity gains, relied on only 320 suppliers, while
Volvo had over 600. Headlines such as Volvo will reduce number of suppliers;
pressure on sub contractors in Dagens Nyheter, one of Sweden s major daily
newspapers, did not help his peace of mind.
He was also aware that Just In Time deliveries had been implemented recently
Orson Welles Use Of Montages In The Film Citizen Kane
Citizen Kane by Orson Welles is a story that was made for excellence. However,
since it was about William Randolph Hearst, it did not do too well. Many movies
didn t want to play the film because they were scared of Hearst and his power.
Although, many could not see the movie it still became one of the greatest films ever
made through its uncommon angles, montages, and lighting. One of the most famous
scenes in filmis the beginning where Charles Foster Kanedies after saying rosebud.
What makes this scene so great was the camera angle. The snow globe that Kane
drops after his death created an angle never before seen. This angle allowed for the
intensity of the scene to increase as it emphasizes the nurse running in the room and
the broken globe to show Kane s world as comes crashing down on him. Another
interesting camera angle is when Kane is being taken away from his mother where
both her and Kane are visible and in full focus. Along with this angle it also has a
smooth transition from the angle of the mother and sliding through the window to
allow for the new scene. These... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first montage seen is the March of Time Newsreel. This reel is very important
as it tells us that Charles Foster Kane dies and gives us a backstory on his ridiculous
life. Another important montage in the story was after Kane got married to his first
wife, Emily Kane. This montage shows him and his new wife happy at the table.
Going through many weeks and months this montage shows the transition Kane and
his wife has just through the being at the dinner table. At first, they are lovey dovey
sitting close to each other, then Emily starts talking about how he is always at work
which leads to them sitting away from each other by the end of the montage reading
opposite newspapers. The montage are really important but the lighting allows the

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Digital Radiography
Introduction In this paper, I will be discussing what the advantages and the
disadvantages of Digital Radiography in Diagnostic Radiology. Further more present
factors with each subject showing how they are distinguished as an advantage and an
disadvantage. Time, money, and radiation dosage to the patient are very important
factors these days because of how many different regulations there are and the
concerns for the patient as well. Digital Radiographyalso known as DR is static
images produced with a fan x raybeam intercepted by a linear array of radiation
detectors or an area x ray beam intercepted by a photostimulable phosphor plate or
direct capture solid state device. Body Digital Radiography is often compared to
Computed Radiography because of their similarities in their use of x raying as well
as they are both used in the medical field. Computed Radiography, also known as CR,
is the radiographic technique that uses a photostimulable phosphor as the image
receptor and an area beam. Direct radiography is basically Computed radiography but
one less step. Computed radiography uses cassette that go into the bucky, where the
image is shot. It is then unloaded from the compartment called the bucky, with the
latent image and scan through a processor that reads the image and presents itself on
the computer monitor for the Tech or Radiologist. This process is then repeated for
another image to be taken by reloading another cassette into the bucky compartment.

Symptoms And Treatment Of Antidepressants
In the study patients age 20 to 64 that is diagnosed with depression and on
antidepressants was used to observe the possibility of antidepressants causing
epilepsy. The data does show some links between antidepressant use and epilepsy,
even though it is inconsistent and non decisive.
Cox proportional hazards were used to analyze the first recorded diagnosis of
epilepsy for the study. Patients were picked from the QResearch primary care
database. There was a total of 238,963 patients from 687 UK practices used in the
research. Patients with past history were eliminated. There was an increase of 37%
of patients that was diagnosed with their first epilepsy/seizure with antidepressants,
8 of 11 were frequently prescribed drugs. An increased risk was found with the link
of antidepressants and epilepsy/seizures on all classes of antidepressants. Patients
should be evaluated and all possibilities should be considered. More research needs
to be done as these results could contain bias information.

Antidepressant use and risk of epilepsy and seizures
With the increase of antidepressants being prescribed in the UK, in 2012, it reached
over a half a million prescriptions. Some indications have shown with the increase of
antidepressants is a rise in epilepsy/seizures, only a small number of researches have
been done on people for long term use. In the UK 1 in 100 people are diagnosed with
epilepsy, the disorder is severe

To make this application stand out, I have added some custom questions. Please do
not deny me for that, but these are some very needed questions that may help me get
accepted.
Keeping many of my answers short and sweet for good reasons.
1) What rank are you applying for?
I am applying for Helper.
2) How old are you?
I am 18 years old as of April 25th.
3) Are you a boy or a girl?
I am a male.
4) What country do you live in?
I currently reside in the United States, but I am originally from Australia, and will be
there again in 3 months.
5) Do you have a YouTube/Twitch channel?
I do not, but I can make one if required.
6) Do you have a microphone/headset?
Yes, I have a Blue Yeti Pro.
7) Why do you want this rank?
As I must give an honest answer, many users want me back. That is legitimately
the main reason I want to become a helper. Many staff and many users have been
skyping me asking me when I will return to OPCraft, saying they need me, and
many other things. Well, today is that day. I m not sure why OPCraft needs me,
but you do have a lot of staff! I could write a very long response about this, but
knowing that the main thing you are looking for is the answer below, I m going to
lower it down. In my time of styling every answer before this, I ve honestly been
waiting for this question as it is one of the few that I can answer a lot, and make
myself unique. Because, when searching for staff, I know you want the most

The Crucible Act 4 Seasons Essay
The four seasons specify the time of year. Seasons generally prepare you for the
weather conditions for the specific months. However, the four seasons, in literature,
can represent the mood and age throughout the text. For example, in the story, The
Crucible the author used the season, fall, leading the reader to the interpretation that
the storyline will have a gloomy and an eerie atmosphere. Therefore, when the author
adds the type of weather or describes the climatein his or her story, they are trying to
illustrate the mood. In the play, The Crucible, the author, Arthur Miller, used fall and
springas an illustration of the setting. In Act I, the setting was placed in the spring;
as a result of, everything was peaceful and fine. In Act III and IV, the author used
fall to describe the mood. In the fall, the leaves begin to change colors, die, and
wither away. Thus, implying the attitude of the play will consist of darkness and
departure. In Acts III and IV, in The Crucible, Arthur Miller used the season
fall. The

reflection, the reader can construe that Tom is about to experience change. The
twelve months can also be related to the seasons; by its nature, the reader can
recognize which months are in each season, due to their location. For instance, in
The Raven, by Edgar Allen Poe, Ah, distinctly I remember it was in the bleak
December; and each separate dying ember wrought its ghost upon the floor. Despite
the fact that Edgar Allen Poe did not verbatimly mention one of the four seasons, the

The Demise Of Earth s Doomsday
An ongoing, redeveloping, catalyst ensuing catastrophe known as The End of the

phenomena related, who yield a specific date for the end of the world have been
debunked; creation of this essay would not exist otherwise. It is what looms in the
future that theorists and educators such as Dr. F. Kenton Beshore and David Powell
understand to be the demise of Earth s doomsday. President of the World Bible

At the end of the Tribulation phase, believers who have denied the Mark of the
Beast meet Jesus in the air where they return to earth for the Second Coming. This

the Sun will swell extremely in or around five billion years from now. The sun s

Character Analysis Of Freddie In The Shade
Were you ever nervous and bothered about changing the life you ve lived the
most? Freddie in the Shade, written by Pam Munoz Ryan, is about a young boy
named Freddie who struggles with realizing the beauty of change and moving
forward in life. Having a hard time with moving on, Freddie is left disagreeable but
soon begins to let go of the past and becomes acceptable to new things coming his
way. Freddie is an interesting character because he likes to have power over his
own life but he tries to hold himself down to feel empathy for those he truly cares
for. There are several events and examples throughout the story Freddie in the Shade,
that express Freddie as a strong, caring, and kindhearted character.
Freddy can be described as disagreeable at the beginning of the story although at the
end of the story he becomes acceptable and open to new beginnings. For example,
in the beginning of the story on page 12 the author states For weeks, Freddie had
been hibernating in his room, trying to avoid dad and Maggie. They tried to include
him in every boring preparation for the baby. With the evidence, the author provides
us we can predict that Freddie doesn t like when he is pushed into doing something
he doesn t want to do leaving Freddie very disagreeable and stubborn. On the very
first paragraph of page 11, the narrator states Freddie hoped that the dark shades
would protect him from anything else that might disrupt his life. From the statement,

Comparing Catherine The Great And Frederick The Great
Catherine the Great and Frederick the Great were two great rulers from different
places and different time. They both had an impressive accomplished during their
reign. A man and a woman, who made history in the world, beyond an amazing

Catherine the great, who was also known as Catherine II, was an empress of Russia
who ruled from 1762 1796. She was also the longest woman ever to rein Russia. She
gained the throne when she married peter III a Russian prince who would become
Emperor. After only six months on the throne, Catherine overthrew him with the aid
of Grigory Orlov, a military officer with whom she was having an affair. Her husband

Country Road Analysis
INTRODUCTION Country road has always been one of Australia leading premium
stockists of apparel and home wares. Country Road began as a small manufacturer
but expanded and diversified to become a leading wholesaler/retailer of apparel and
home wares in the Australian market. The great success of this fueled the company
into an expansionary strategy into the lucrative yet highly competitive US markets
and also further along the way into the Asian markets. The strategy of international
expansion into Asia had involved alternative strategies instead of the aggressive
strategy into US. Such strategies included strategic partnerships and franchising

Country Road could not compete domestically and had to expand to the US market,
in which they failed. This was due to exploiting the wrong idea Country Road
thought of themselves as an Australian lifestyle icon more than just a clothing store.
KEY SUCCESS FACTORS Key success factors are determinants to why Country
Road could have landed this competitive advantage and they include: Able to
produce higher quality products. Able to diversify its product range to meet market
demand including women s wear, men s wear, accessories and home wares.
Establishing itself as an Australian brand, can be seen as iconic in the local market.
Establishing strategic alliances, such as Myer, Itochu Corporation, Inchcape BHD,
wishlist.com). This created new distribution channels, new intellect resource base and
new markets. Setting and keep up with the latest trends in clothing wears. Producing
innovative design lay outs to display the clothing and welcome customers.
STRATEGIC ISSUES Country Road was blinded with success in the domestic
market. Reduction in tariff barriers lead rise to a more competitive market locally
and hence Country Road sought alternatives. One such strategy was an aggressive
expansionary strategy into the US market opening 100 stores in the US market.
Country Road positioned itself high in the US market facing competitors
Non Compete Agreements
In a world that is constantly changing due to new inventions and discoveries,
companies are seeking out people in the work force that are skilled, learn fast, and
moldable in order to cater to the needs of their company. By having a group of skilled
workers in your company that promises a right future and potential competitive
advantage in the market you are in. For most company, in order to maintain
competitive advantage or whatever status they have in their market, they have
resorted to making employees sign non compete agreements. Non compete
agreements are advantageous for the companies, but if negotiated correctly could also
benefit employees. For employers, by imposing their employees to sign a non
compete agreement whether it be at the beginning of their employment with the
company at hand or towards the middle, it ensures the protection of the company s

incentivize employees to remain at a company which would therefore incentive the

agreement could be too extreme, the employee always has the choices to either not
sign the agreement, try to negotiate some unrealistic expectations, or take it to court

Essay On Extensive Reading
6. Definition of extensive reading
Extensive reading is a language teaching procedure where learners are supposed to
read large quantities of material or long texts for global understanding, the principle
goal being obtained pleasure from the text (Bamford, 2004).
The term of Extensive Reading was originally coined by Palmer (1917) and since
different terms have been used to refer to extensive reading; such as: Supplementary
Reading , Book Flood , Uninterrupted Sustained Silent Reading , Substained Silent
Reading , Reading because you want to , free Voluntary Reading , free reading .
Extensive reading is one of the two types: the first type, where language learners read
for meaning that focuses on input. The second type, is to read for fluency
development. Extensive reading is also defined as the reading ... Show more content

This is what students really enjoy about extensive reading, they are also encouraged
to stop reading anything that is not interesting or that find it too difficult.
9 4 Learners read as much as possible:
The language learning benefits of extensive reading come from the quantity of
reading. For the benefits of extensive reading to take effect, a book a week is an
appropriate goal. This is a realistic target as books written for beginning language
learners are very short.
9 5 Reading speed is usually faster rather than slower:
Because of the fact that the material is easy understandable for students, their reading
is fluent. Learners are encouraged to ignore or guess the meaning of a few unknown
items they may encounter from the context.
9 6 The purpose of reading is usually related to pleasure, information and general
understanding:
Extensive reading encourages reading for pleasure and information. The aim of
reading is not hundred percent comprehension; to meet the purpose of reading
sufficient understanding is satisfactory.
9 7 Reading is individual and
Main Factors Of Building A Co2 Dragster Car
Why Do You Dragster? Co2 Dragsters are wooden model dragster cars. The reason
why these cars are called Co2 dragsters is because; to make the cars go you have to
use Co2 cartridges. This cartridge is put on the back of the car, and when the
bottle is pierced pressurized air spurts out of the cartridge causing the dragster to
go forward at very fast speeds. Now that you know what Co2 dragsters are, we can
talk about how the design and shape of the dragster affects the speed. Aero
dynamics, Weight, and size are the main factors of building a Co2 dragster. Your
Co2 dragster may be small, but it s going to be moving at incredible speeds when you
race it. That means it will be subjected to a wide variety of forces that affect its

A PEST analysis (also sometimes called a STEP, PESTLE or STEEP analysis) looks

Runaway Juveniles Are Not A Serious Problem
National surveys suggested that 6% 7% of adolescents run away from home in the
United States (Sanchez, Waller, Greene, 2006; Tyler Bersani, 2008). Most
runaways rarely stay away from home for long periods and stay within 50 miles of
home (Hammer, Finkelhor, Sedlak, 2002). Although runaway juveniles are not a
serious problem (Kim, 2006) and eventually return to parents or guardian (Milburn
et al., 2007), they are victimized and exposed in deteriorate circumstances while
away. There were many problems for runaway juveniles, in spite of returning after a
short period of time, such as increasing their likelihood of engaging in high risk
behavior, being exploited or victimized by others, and resorting to illicit activities
(Chen, Thrane, Whitbeck, Johnson, Hoyt, 2007; Kipke, Simon, Montgomey, Unger,
Iversen, 1997; Wagner, Carlin, Cauce, Tenner, 2001). However, few researchers
explained the reason of why adolescents run away from home (Andres Lemay,
Jamieson, MacMillan, 2005; National Runaway Switchboard, 2008; Safyer,
Thompson, Maccio, Zittel Palamara, Forehand, 2004; Van der Ploeg Scholte, 1997;
Welsh, 1995). They claimed that the most common reason is negative family
environment. Safyer et al. (2004) found that 41% of the adolescentsattributed their
runaway behavior to a poor relationship dynamic with their parents. Poor parenting
practices and physical abuse increase the likelihood that a child will run away

of the ride along/interview I was amazed and this amazement was like
confirmation that this is the career that I want to have. I did not ask him if he had

I chose to interview her is because she is currently my background investigator. I am
currently going through the process of being hired with the Los Angeles Sheriff

Literacy has been one of the most prominent aspects of education and schooling due
to the ongoing craft of a curriculum that both questions and reflects our current
sociocultural situation. Literacy teaching and learning has vastly changed over time
with cultural, social, academic, and technological developments. Graff (1987) has
previously proposed that, while the educationsystem develops, it only seems
appropriate for literacy approaches to be revised. Kalantzis, Cope, Chan and Dalley
Trim (2016) put forward the four literacy pedagogies of didactic, authentic, functional
and critical. Pedagogical approaches draw links to developmental theories and are
generally supported by academics of the relevant period, with strong ties to the

Dewey emphasises the importance of experiential learning and the learning process,
which occurs through engagement with interest based literacy. One of the main
reasons for creating an alternative to the didactic approach was to explore ways of
engaging students (Kalantzis et al., 2016), allowing motivation through interest,
creativity, individualisation and ownership of one s own text. Another reason was to
explore the adaptations, needs and intrinsic motivators for the individual and base
current methods on the contemporary individual (Dewey, 1963). Maria Montessori,
was an equally as prominent figure for the uprise of authentic pedagogy, and more
specifically student lead inquiry. Montessori held strong perspectives that a teacher
should maintain their position as a guide of learning in a less formalised, yet
structured, classroom (Kalantzis et al., 2016), with views that schools are to explore
the natural growth of the child through removal of the existing authoritative designs
of the classroom (Montessori,
Themes Of Gandhi In Hind Swaraj
Many of the themes explored by Gandhi in Hind Swaraj are directly or indirectly
influenced by these texts. I lay no claim to originality. They have been formed after
reading several books. For instance, Gandhi s explanation of colonialism is built upon
Tolstoy s Letter to a Hindoo where he argues that it is not the English who have
enslaved the Indians, but the Indians who have enslaved themselves. Similarly, an
uncompromising critique of industrial culture, the hallmark of Gandhian thought, is
derived from Ruskin, Tolstoy and many other writers. Further, Maine s contention,
that Indians were inheritors of a civilizationthat had representative institutions but
destroyed by the new utilitarian state, was used by Gandhi to point out the superiority
of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Eastern (mostly Indian) sources include major ancient religious texts, not necessarily
Hindu (like Gita, Tulsidas Ramayana etc.)
On the surface, Hind Swaraj is primarily a critique of modern civilization, a
civilization only in name . Critical commentators like Bhikhu Parekh and Raghavan
Iyer perceive it in this way. Hind Swaraj, as Tridip Suhrud sees it, is philosophically
located at a fleeting, tantalizing moment in human history when, out of the two
modes of life and thought that were present simultaneously modern and a modern (a
modern was not anti modern) it was still possible to follow the latter or, in other
words, to conceive life outside the realm of the modern universe. It is this latter mode
of thought that forms the bedrock of Hind Swaraj because Gandhi believed that
modern civilization was built upon denial of a fundamental possibility, that of
knowing oneself. By shifting the locus of human endeavor to objects of bodily
comfort,
The Importance Of Religion In Hamlet
The number and variety of religion has so many numerous beliefs and religious
practices that people have a hard time to decide exactly on one religion. The main
religion that people know and believe is Christianity which practices the belief that
there is a god and Jesus Christ. Religion is not really about demanding and making
rules on people for what they should do. It is more of different people believing in
what they want and then what they want to do with it. Religionis a common thing that
is known around the world and to many people. It is also a common reference that
people use in books, for example in Hamlet. Religion is an important concept to know
on understanding Hamlet better because of the power of their kings, how people
based there beliefs on signs and symbols, and the certain symbols that they would use.
The power of the king is similar and different to Hamlet by the ways Claudius was
ruling over Denmark. The people would base everything they did off their king
and what he did. They believed their king to be their only supreme leader and lord
(John). The people thought their king to be the highest ranked person in the
kingdom and also in the church. The king also had great power over his people.
One of the examples is if the people believed in different things than the king, then
they would have to be executed and die. The king was very precise on his people
and what they did. They were either against or with him. One very good example that
can relate back
The New American Standard Bible
Scripture quoted in this paper is from the New American Standard Bible (NASB), as
it appears in the Comparative Study Bible, for the purpose of compliance with
Bacone College s Christian Ministry Degree program.
The Lord s Supper
14 В¶ When the hour had come, He reclined at the table, and the apostles with Him.
15 And He said to them, I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before
I suffer;
16 for I say to you, I shall never again eat it until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.
17 And when He had taken a cup and given thanks, He said, Take this and share it
among yourselves;
18 for I say to you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine from now on until the
kingdom of God comes.
19 And when He had taken some bread ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another translation problem is the mention of the cup twice. As explained in the
NIV Archaeological Study Bible, The cup refers either to the first of the four cups
shared during the regular observance of the Passover meal or to the third cup. Stein
explains the four cups in a Passover meal and suggests that [i]t may have been the
third of these cups that Jesus used in the Last Supper while referencing Luke 22:20.
Although these are explanations, they do not necessarily prove or disprove Jesus
eating at a Passover meal.
A third translation problem is the word bread . The word bread in this verse comes
from the Greek word artos , meaning bread (as raised) or a loaf , which is not an
unleavened bread. The obvious translation problem is the conflict between the Feast
of Unleavened Bread and eating bread that is raised. Although many Christians in
this modern age might find great inspiration in connecting the Risen Christ with
raised bread, the meaning of the word only adds to the translation dilemma. The
counter argument to raised bread being a symbol of the Risen Savior is found in the
instructions given to Moses, which state, the blood of God s sacrifice must not be
mixed with leaven bread. That could apply literally to the Passover meal and
figuratively to Christ as the bread.
Fourth, was the Last Supper the Passover meal, a

Ledan Research Paper
Ledan (currently going by the alias of Ledan Leda Hale) is an archangel/human
hybrid, sometimes known as an Archnephilim (a phrase coined by Dean) and a
witch, known or at least believed to be one of the only ones of his kind, maybe
even the olnly one. He uses his witchcraft to perform spells on demand,
occasionally for money but usually he ll do it for an nondescript favour (which you ll
be bound to) that can be called in at any time. He was born in 339BC, in early Iron
Age Sweden, and grew up believing, in his early years, he was an average human.
However, he is the son of the archangel Jophiel (who died when he was two) and a
powerful witch called ThyrvГЇ; making him very much not. He believed this because
his powers took time to manifest, and even when they did, in the beginning they were

angels to be an abomination, as a type of being not created by god is considered a

probably at least near omnipotent (at least as near to it as an Archangel is), but is
still (even after 2,353 years) in the stage of developing his powers. However, due
to the hex that was recently placed on him, he s currently able to use a limited
amount of power at a time; causing him to become weak after prologued use of the
powers he has through his father s (his archangel) side. This has seemingly not
affected his spells, however, and so he s still been able to continue his day to day
Blaise Pascal Research Paper
Blaise Pascal
In 1635, Blaise Pascal s father found his twelve year old son on the floor of his
bedroom, charcoal in hand, having figured out by himself the proofs found in
Euclid s Elements. Pascal s father was astounded by how his precocious son was
able to replicate what the Father of Geometry had only discovered at the age of
thirty. As a result, he henceforth shifted the focus of his son s study from Classical
literature to mathematics. Pascal quickly overtook his father himself a tax official
well versed in science and mathematics in mathematical skill. Born to a wealthy
French family on June 19th, 1623, Blaise Pascal died thirty nine years later, having
been responsible for many contributions to physics, mathematics, and even theology.
Sovereignty In The Wife Of Bath s Tale
A Wife s Sovereignty
A happy wife is a happy life. This saying has been used for decades by both
husbands and wives. When thinking about it, it makes sense. If a woman is happy
with her marriage, then she treats her husband better, which has a good influence on
his life as a whole. Sometimes it takes men going through obstacles to realize this. In
the Wife of Bath s Tale the knight goes through many difficulties to finally change
and give his bride sovereignty; the Wife of Bath s Tale corresponds with the beliefs
discussed in her prologue.
In the beginning of the Wife of Bath s Tale, the knight is not a likable character. He
sees a young maiden walking and rapes her. This is so shocking to readers because
knights are known for their chivalric ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact, mastery and sovereignty are constantly used throughout the prologue.
According to her, a happy marriage is a marriage where the wife has complete
control. The Wife accuses husbands of trying to restrict her liberty. She feels that her
husband s riches are also her riches. It is my good as wel as thyn, pardee! (310).
According to her, a wife will not love a man who tries to control her. She had five
husbands and she gained sovereignty from them all. Sadly, everytime she gained
control over a husband, he would die. Although the first three were easier, the wife
gained control of them all. The fourth husband was hard to dominate, for he kept a
mistress. The Wife brags about her false accusations, explaining how she gained
sovereignty with her lies. After being out all night she would claim she was spying
on her lovers. They were ful glade to excuse hem blyve/ Of thyng of which they
nevere agilte hir lyve/ Of wenches wolde I beren hem on honde (391 393). She was
good at manipulating the men into doing what she wanted. The fifth husband,
twenty years her junior, gave her sovereignty after he hit her and she pretended to
be dead. He promised he would grant her desires if she lived. Even after having five
husbands, she is ready to marry
Telekinesis Research Paper
After researching online for recent advancements in science, I was intrigued by
Telekinesis/Psychokinesis. Telekinesis is the ability to move or control objects
with the mind. The history of telekinesis is a history of frauds and fakes, both
proven and suspected. Magicians, Mediums, and Psychics have over the years made
it even more difficult for scientists to prove because of their manipulation of the
occurrence. The problem with Telekinesis/Psychokinesis, isn t so much about
proving it exists, but the consequences it would have on the rules and understanding
of Physics. It is hard for one to believe this could occur because even if our brain
waves could somehow influence objects, the laws of physics demonstrate that the
waves don t extend
Pathos In Outliers By Malcolm Gladwell
People do not rise from nothing, according to Malcolm Gladwell. There are many
components that effect the way an individual becomes successful. Gladwell argues
that where, when, and how the person was raised has the biggest impact on their
future successes. The use of pathos, logos, and ethos benefit the points that are being
convey by Gladwell. They persuade the reader in thinking with the same mindset as
the writer. In Outliers, pathos, logos, and ethos are found throughout the book,
multiple times, through examples of people that achieved success. For pathos,
connecting to the reader emotionally is essential to convince the readers of Gladwell
s argument. He uses pathos to evoke an emotional response. One of many examples
of Gladwell s use... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
fhurefhkserfhk Gladwell s use of pathos and emotions touched nerves of the readers
and compelled them to action. Logos are used by writers to engage the intellect in
reason. Malcolm Gladwell resorts to logos to provide a factual and logical support
for his argument. Professional hockey is described with logos to prove Gladwell s
point. A chart is provided that includes the birthdays of a professional hockey
team. On the chart, seventeen out of the twenty five players on the team were
born in January, February, March, or April. The reason why there is a majority of
players born between those months is because the cutoff for age class hockey is
January 1 in Canada. Due to this, players born closer to the beginning of the year
have more time to improve and mature than those born near the end of the year.
This advantage developed a huge gap with the skill of the hockey players. Gladwell
s point is that the success of the people, in this case hockey players, is often
determined by factors, such as age, that are
Similarities And Differences Between The Movie And The...
In The Silence of the Lambs, both the book and film have the same storyline of
Clarice Starling, a young U.S. FBI trainee, seeks the advice of the imprisoned Dr.
Hannibal Lecter to apprehend another serial killer, known as Buffalo Bill . When
she uses Dr. Lecter s help to capture Buffalo Bill, he somehow escapes out of the
prison he is in. But in the end, they are able to capture Buffalo Bill, but Dr. Lecter
was never found. He did, however, call Clarice and told her not to search for him,
and he would not search to kill her. Much of the film and book are exactly the same
with only small differences, which set them apart. In 1992, it won an Academy
Award for Best Writing Adapted Screenplay, which really shows how much effort
Jonathan Demme, the director put into this film to keep the same plot. The small
differences throughout, really sway the reader or viewer to make a decision on
which one really captured the storyline better. In the film, the backstory of Jack
Crawford is not really shown. In the book, however, the reader can really tell how
much effort and sacrifice he made for the job he has. Because of all of Crawford s
effort, it really built Clarice s character. Clarice in the story is seen as a second
chance for Crawford because of his mistakes he made with Will Graham. Both stories
really mirror each other and fit into each other. In the film, however, it is hard to fit
so much tiny detail into a two hour film, so the movie wasn t able to show the small
details about Clarice. The book nevertheless, was able to shape Clarice as an
individual. But, during the film Jodi Foster, the actor who played Clarice Starlingin
the film, was really able to embrace her character and brought as much detail as she
could. Another small detail about Dr. Lecter is in the book, he is described as
having red eyes and six fingers on one hand, but in the film, he has blue eyes and
both hands only have 5 fingers. In a crucial scene, in the novel, it sways the guard s
attention from his other hand, in which he holds a makeshift key to his handcuffs.
This allows him to escape from his cage. This was done in the book, to make him
seem creeper, but Anthony Hopkins, the actor who played Dr. Lecter, really

Health Tourism
Health Tourism A Boon or Curse?
What is it?
Medical tourism (also called medical travel, health tourism or global health care) is a
term initially coined by travel agencies and themass media to describe the rapidly
growing practice of traveling across international borders to obtain health care. Such
services typically include elective procedures as well as complex specialized
surgeriessuch as joint replacement (knee/hip), cardiac surgery, dental surgery, and
cosmetic surgeries. However, virtually every type of health care, including psychiatry,
alternative treatments, convalescent care and even burial services are available. As a
practical matter, providers and customers commonly use informal channels of

Additionally, patients are finding that insurance either does not cover orthopedic
surgery (such as knee/hip replacement) or imposes unreasonable restrictions on the
choice of the facility, surgeon, or prosthetics to be used. Medical tourismfor knee/hip
replacements has emerged as one of the more widely accepted procedures because
of the lower cost and minimal difficulties associated with the traveling to/from the
surgery. Colombia provides a knee replacement for about $5,000 USD, including all
associated fees, such as FDA approved prosthetics and hospital stay over expenses.
However, many clinics quote prices that are not all inclusive and include only the
surgeon fees associated with the procedure.[7]
According to an article by the University of Delaware publication, Udaily:
The cost of surgery in India, Thailand or South Africa can be one tenth of what it is
in theUnited States or Western Europe, and sometimes even less. A heart valve
replacement that would cost $200,000 or more in the US, for example, goes for
$10,000 in India and that includes round trip airfare and a brief vacation package.
Similarly, a metal free dental bridge worth $5,500 in the US costs $500 in India, a
knee replacement in Thailand with six days of physical therapy costs about onefifth
of what it would in the States, and Lasik eye surgery worth $3,700 in the US is
available in many other countries for only $730. Cosmetic surgery savings are

Connell utilizes the strength of the story by combining the setting with mood to
observe the reaction of the characters when the environment around them changes.
For example, as the poisonous [air] ; engulfs the yacht, it gives Whitney a mental
chill; a sort of sudden dread ; as Rainsford and him sail precariously towards the
island (62). Whitney, frightened by the grim nature around him, feels like a
wounded bird fighting for its life among the hungry predators hiding in the
unknown. The shroud of darkness completely surrounds not only Whitney, but the
entire yacht which leaves him in a state of anxiety because of what lies in cover
amid the dreadful island. Furthermore, as the eyes of Zaroff scatter over the island,
searching for Rainsford, Rainsford froze there, every muscle tensed ; afraid that the
eyes will see (73). With shelter high above in the trees, away from Zaroff, Rainsford
awaits for the perfect moment where he will jump down from among the sky and
pounce on Zaroff like a leopard killing its prey. Consequently, while Rainsford keeps
repeating the moment of victory inside his mind; the self confidence, overflowing out
of his veins, develops into uncertainty. Since Zaroff possesses the island and with his
military expertise, scouts the island for any advantages in hunt; Rainsford fears that
Zaroff will counter the surprise attack and kill him, making the hunter become the
prey. When Connell interweaves setting into mood, the method he uses touches
Overview Of The Public Company Accounting Oversight

The Public Company Accounting Oversight Board, or PCAOB, is a nonprofit
organization established by the government to oversee audits of public companies.
The organization also oversees the audits of broker dealers, including compliance
reports filed pursuant to federal security laws (Public Company Accounting Oversight

known as SOX, to protect investors and the public interests by promoting accurate
audits through independent auditors (Public Company Accounting Oversight Board,

An Analysis Of The Unknown Citizen By F. H. Auden
In the world today, society has created individuals that conform to the expected
norms and those that rebel against them. In each of the pieces selected there is a
character that conforms to meet the needs of the society. A conformist is someone
who follows the rules that are given to them without any complaints. Each of the
three literary writings has a character that is considered rebellious within the norms
of society. A rebellious person is someone who does not follow the rules that are
given to them. The poem The Unknown Citizenby W. H. Audenis mainly about an
unnamed man who is a conformist, because he listens to all the rules that are made
for the society. On the other hand, the short story A P by John Updike and the play
Antigone by Sophoclesthere is a conformist character which enforces the rules set in
place, and a rebellious character which goes against the principles of society. Each
author depicts a character to represent the conformist and rebellious individuals
within today s society.
Within the three different literary writings there is a character that acts as a
conformist. W.H. Auden created a main character in The Unknown Citizen that does
not appear to want to do anything for himself, but rather for the others within his
community. In line five W.H. Auden states, for in everything he did, he served the
Greater Community (497), meaning this man is known to be a good person because
he did not just do something for himself, but for the
Lab Report On Protein Purification
Lab Report 4
Introduction: Protein purification is a process that can be employed to separate a
single protein from a larger starting material which may be anything from an organ to
a cell. Isolating a purified protein from a larger fraction enables further analysis such
as determination of amino acid sequence, potential biological function, and even
evolutionary relationship. (Cuatrecasas 1970) In this experiment, the enzyme lactate
dehydrogenase will be purified, this enzyme is found extensively in human cells
and catalyzes the conversion of lactate to pyruvate, an essential part in energy
production. LDH is a key part of anaerobic energy production especially within
glycolysis in which LDH catalyzes the conversion of the reverse reaction, pyruvate to
lactate, generating NAD+ from NADH, reproducing the oxidized form of the
coenzyme which can be used for oxidative respiration. (Markert 1963) Due to the fact
that number of purification steps correlates with the purity of the protein multiple
purification techniques will be used to isolate a pure form of LDH. LDH will be
isolated from a larger cytosol fraction collected from a homogenized rat liver in a
previous fractionation exercise. Of the procedures that will be used to isolate and
purify proteins from a larger fractionate are a set of techniques collectively known as
chromatography. These techniques all have the same premise, in that they consist of a
stationary phase, also known as the

  • 2. Preeclampsia Pregnancy-Induced Syndrome Preeclampsia/Eclampsia is a complicated pregnancy induced syndrome that usually occurs after the 20th week of gestation. Together with gestational hypertension, the continued presence of chronic hypertension, and the superimposition of preeclampsia on chronic hypertension, preeclampsia is one of the four categories of hypertensive disorders during pregnancy, which affect 5% 10% of all pregnancies [1]. Preeclampsia is a leading cause of maternal mortality and morbidity, as well as a major cause of adverse effects on fetal well being both worldwide and in the US. Specifically, one third of severe maternal morbidities, 10% 15% maternal death in low /middle income countries and 15% of preterm birth is attributed to preeclampsia [1 3]. The diagnostic criteria of preeclampsia has been changing during the past two decades (Table 1). The most recent guidelines for hypertensionduring pregnancy by the American College of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Pathologic laboratory study showed that renal biopsy samples from women with preeclampsia are different from the mechanistic damage from high blood pressure, which also implies that preeclampsia is a disorder beyond pregnancy induced hypertension [14]. Acute pathological changes, such as organ hemorrhage and necrosis, to women with preeclampsia will revert to normal soon after delivery, which suggests that unique features of pregnancy lead to the change. Previous research supports that preeclampsia is the consequence of reduced placental perfusion, which is suspected to be caused by abnormalities in implantation and vascular remodeling. As a result, there is reduced blood flow to organs other than the placenta, thus causing hemorrhage and necrosis to multiple organ systems including liver, kidney, brain and intervillous space

  • 5. Stereotypes Of Immorality, Action Thriller AMBITIONS OF IMMORTALITY is an original sci fi, action thriller. The plot explores man s need for immortality. The script also explores the theme of machine vs. man, as well as man s need to survive. The moral question of how far man should take technology and play the role of God is also examined. These are solid themes. With that said, the script would benefit from more development. The opening sets the tone for a sci fi thriller; however, the opening needs to be more visual to engage the audience. There s a tendency to tell the story vs. visually show the action of the characters. For example in the opening, it s not clear what type of animal the doctor is experimenting with. It s not visual enough to understand how the animal is different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While the dialogue reveals some information about the characters, the dialogue also tends to sound on the nose and un natural. Avoid repetitive dialogue. There are many scenes in which Sweet repeats his goal for immortality. Overall, the script is heavily dominated by dialogue. Some scenes feel too long, such as the birthday sequence. The overall tension will be intensified if there s a stronger foe. Consider creating some form of a ticking clock tension or urgency to the plot. Stronger tension and suspense needs to drive the entire plot. Elevate the tone to fit with a thriller. The professional presentation can be polished. As mentioned, there s a strong tendency to tell and explain the story vs. showing it. This occurs throughout the entire script. Instead of saying that Sweet s love towards Casper is established: show it visually. When he tries to take off his metal plate, but can t, show what being angered looks like visually. There are a few other minor typos and formatting errors. The narrative descriptions should be short (not full sentences) and visual. For example, at the birthday party Sweet is described several times as being

Canadian Foreign Policy Essay Canadian Foreign Policy Introduction As the 20th century comes to an end, Canada is a transcontinental nation whose interests and representatives span the face of the globe and extend into every sphere of human behaviour. However this was not always the case. When the four colonies of British North America united to create Canada on July 1, 1867, the new country s future was by no means secure. Canada was a small country, with unsettled borders, vast empty spaces, and a large powerful neighbour, the United States. Confronting these challenges was difficult for the young country. Though Canada was independent in domestic matters, Britain retained control over its foreign policy. Over the next fifty or so years, Canada s leaders and its ... All correspondence between Ottawa and London passed through the Governor General who was described as the human link in the imperial chain. 5 It was in the weary war years of Mackenzie King in the 1930 s when the development of Canadian foreign policy started to take shape. Before that period Canada did not have an independent foreign policy with no international presence whatsoever and Canadian people saw themselves as part of the British dynasty. The first period in the formulation of Canadian foreign policy was in fact the absence of policy and it was World War 1 which gave birth to foreign policy. Sixty thousand Canadians were lost which left Canadians wary of international development especially when there were very few military objectives. Canada had minimal control over her own troops and negotiations with the British were a challenge. Our troops were under control of the British and negotiating with the British was challenging. Looking back, there was almost a sense of absurdity about WW1. Therefore, Canadians came out of WW1 with a stronger than ever desire for independence. The Statute of Westminster, 1931, was the last of the Imperial Acts of the Parliament of Great Britain applicable to all dominions. It granted Canada,

Manolin used to fish with Santiago, but after forty days of not catching fish, Manolin was ordered by his parents to fish on another boat in the village, which was regarded as a lucky boat. However, Manolin continued to help Santiago with various duties, such as catching bait, bringing him food, and looking over him each night. Some defining features that this particular sub genre pertains is its villain, final girl, and storyline. The villain is a single person and is usually a male with inhumane characteristic traits; he is generally indestructible impermeable to bullets, explosions, drowning and beatings. He also has no motive or sympathetic behavior, simply a sociopathic mentality (Seth Millstein). As for his victims, they are almost always teens whom he catches in a location that holds history relating to the killer which sets the storyline for the film and it is also normally related to the victim as well (Horror). His killings are gruesome and violent however the killer will rarely use a gun as a weapon because a gun will end one s life abruptly, so blunt objects or knives are usually the weapon of choice (Horror). Despite his weapon of choice, it does not stop the lone survivor from facing him which is always a woman known to be the final girl. These three components together hold a great impact on the audience throughout the film since it not only attacks their veiled fears but it unravels as well throughout the viewing until the very

  • 16. The Sexuality Of The Victorian Century In modern day America and many other countries, it is common for women to express their sexuality. Trends such as crop tops and high waisted shorts have allowed this to be acceptable to society. During the 19th century Victorian era, behaviors like such would be outrageous and horrifying. In that time, sexuality was especially feared. Women were viewed as domestic goddesses; their only desire was to care for the family and fulfill their husband s needs. It became quite common that women came to also have anxiety over their sexuality. This is clearly seen in Draculathrough Lucy s diary entries. Despite her ultimate transformation into a sensual character, she begins as a woman hiding her sexual cravings. In his gothic novel, Dracula, Bram Stokeruses the title character to expose the repressed sexuality of the other characters, especially the females, criticizing the beliefs of the Victorian Era about woman as sexless figures. Throughout the novel, Lucy and Mina embark on a transformation from ideal Victorian woman to vampires. This represents them crossing the line between conservative women to sexual beings. Even in Lucy s most domestic state, she expresses a desire for sex. In one day, Lucy is proposed to by three different men. Lars estimated Sunwind s current single shift capacity at approximately 1,250 units/week. To achieve this, he had hired an additional 20 people at the beginning of August and established three shift operations on a numerically controlled milling machine used to shape plywood parts. Effective capacity was actually less than 1,250 units/week due to equipment failures, e.g. the gluing machine had proved particularly troublesome and had increased rejects. Recent causes of the rejects included seeping through the carpeting that covered the plywood forms. Volvo had also rejected a shipment of floor lids due to differences in the shade of carpeting covering the four separate pieces which made up a floor lid. Such difficulties could not have come a worse time, when Lars was already concerned by the world wide trend of major manufacturers in the automobile industry to rely on fewer suppliers. He knew that Toyota, which industry observers continually cited for its productivity gains, relied on only 320 suppliers, while Volvo had over 600. Headlines such as Volvo will reduce number of suppliers; pressure on sub contractors in Dagens Nyheter, one of Sweden s major daily newspapers, did not help his peace of mind. • 39. Runaway Juveniles Are Not A Serious Problem National surveys suggested that 6% 7% of adolescents run away from home in the United States (Sanchez, Waller, Greene, 2006; Tyler Bersani, 2008). Most runaways rarely stay away from home for long periods and stay within 50 miles of home (Hammer, Finkelhor, Sedlak, 2002). Although runaway juveniles are not a serious problem (Kim, 2006) and eventually return to parents or guardian (Milburn et al., 2007), they are victimized and exposed in deteriorate circumstances while away. There were many problems for runaway juveniles, in spite of returning after a short period of time, such as increasing their likelihood of engaging in high risk behavior, being exploited or victimized by others, and resorting to illicit activities (Chen, Thrane, Whitbeck, Johnson, Hoyt, 2007; Kipke, Simon, Montgomey, Unger, Iversen, 1997; Wagner, Carlin, Cauce, Tenner, 2001). However, few researchers explained the reason of why adolescents run away from home (Andres Lemay, Jamieson, MacMillan, 2005; National Runaway Switchboard, 2008; Safyer, Thompson, Maccio, Zittel Palamara, Forehand, 2004; Van der Ploeg Scholte, 1997; Welsh, 1995). They claimed that the most common reason is negative family environment. Safyer et al. (2004) found that 41% of the adolescentsattributed their runaway behavior to a poor relationship dynamic with their parents. Poor parenting practices and physical abuse increase the likelihood that a child will run away (Matchinda, 1999; P. Kurtz, G. Kurtz, Jarvis,

Literacy teaching and learning has vastly changed over time with cultural, social, academic, and technological developments. Graff (1987) has previously proposed that, while the educationsystem develops, it only seems appropriate for literacy approaches to be revised. Kalantzis, Cope, Chan and Dalley Trim (2016) put forward the four literacy pedagogies of didactic, authentic, functional and critical. One of the main reasons for creating an alternative to the didactic approach was to explore ways of engaging students (Kalantzis et al., 2016), allowing motivation through interest, creativity, individualisation and ownership of one s own text. Another reason was to explore the adaptations, needs and intrinsic motivators for the individual and base current methods on the contemporary individual (Dewey, 1963). Maria Montessori, was an equally as prominent figure for the uprise of authentic pedagogy, and more specifically student lead inquiry. Montessori held strong perspectives that a teacher should maintain their position as a guide of learning in a less formalised, yet structured, classroom (Kalantzis et al., 2016), with views that schools are to explore the natural growth of the child through removal of the existing authoritative designs of the classroom (Montessori,

They have been formed after reading several books. For instance, Gandhi s explanation of colonialism is built upon Tolstoy s Letter to a Hindoo where he argues that it is not the English who have enslaved the Indians, but the Indians who have enslaved themselves. Similarly, an uncompromising critique of industrial culture, the hallmark of Gandhian thought, is derived from Ruskin, Tolstoy and many other writers. Eastern (mostly Indian) sources include major ancient religious texts, not necessarily Hindu (like Gita, Tulsidas Ramayana etc.) On the surface, Hind Swaraj is primarily a critique of modern civilization, a civilization only in name . Critical commentators like Bhikhu Parekh and Raghavan Iyer perceive it in this way. Hind Swaraj, as Tridip Suhrud sees it, is philosophically located at a fleeting, tantalizing moment in human history when, out of the two modes of life and thought that were present simultaneously modern and a modern (a modern was not anti modern) it was still possible to follow the latter or, in other words, to conceive life outside the realm of the modern universe. It is this latter mode of thought that forms the bedrock of Hind Swaraj because Gandhi believed that modern civilization was built upon denial of a fundamental possibility, that of knowing oneself. • 43. The Importance Of Religion In Hamlet The number and variety of religion has so many numerous beliefs and religious practices that people have a hard time to decide exactly on one religion. The main religion that people know and believe is Christianity which practices the belief that there is a god and Jesus Christ. Religion is not really about demanding and making rules on people for what they should do. It is more of different people believing in what they want and then what they want to do with it. Religionis a common thing that is known around the world and to many people. It is also a common reference that people use in books, for example in Hamlet. Religion is an important concept to know on understanding Hamlet better because of the power of their kings, how people based there beliefs on signs and symbols, and the certain symbols that they would use. The power of the king is similar and different to Hamlet by the ways Claudius was ruling over Denmark. The people would base everything they did off their king and what he did. They believed their king to be their only supreme leader and lord (John). The people thought their king to be the highest ranked person in the kingdom and also in the church. The king also had great power over his people. One of the examples is if the people believed in different things than the king, then they would have to be executed and die. The king was very precise on his people and what they did. They were either against or with him. One very good example that can relate back

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another translation problem is the mention of the cup twice. As explained in the NIV Archaeological Study Bible, The cup refers either to the first of the four cups shared during the regular observance of the Passover meal or to the third cup. Stein explains the four cups in a Passover meal and suggests that [i]t may have been the third of these cups that Jesus used in the Last Supper while referencing Luke 22:20. Although these are explanations, they do not necessarily prove or disprove Jesus eating at a Passover meal. A third translation problem is the word bread . The word bread in this verse comes from the Greek word artos , meaning bread (as raised) or a loaf , which is not an unleavened bread. The obvious translation problem is the conflict between the Feast of Unleavened Bread and eating bread that is raised. Although many Christians in this modern age might find great inspiration in connecting the Risen Christ with raised bread, the meaning of the word only adds to the translation dilemma. The counter argument to raised bread being a symbol of the Risen Savior is found in the instructions given to Moses, which state, the blood of God s sacrifice must not be mixed with leaven bread. That could apply literally to the Passover meal and figuratively to Christ as the bread. Fourth, was the Last Supper the Passover meal, a

This advantage developed a huge gap with the skill of the hockey players. Gladwell s point is that the success of the people, in this case hockey players, is often determined by factors, such as age, that are
  • 51. Similarities And Differences Between The Movie And The... In The Silence of the Lambs, both the book and film have the same storyline of Clarice Starling, a young U.S. FBI trainee, seeks the advice of the imprisoned Dr. Hannibal Lecter to apprehend another serial killer, known as Buffalo Bill . When she uses Dr. Lecter s help to capture Buffalo Bill, he somehow escapes out of the prison he is in. But in the end, they are able to capture Buffalo Bill, but Dr. Lecter was never found. He did, however, call Clarice and told her not to search for him, and he would not search to kill her. Much of the film and book are exactly the same with only small differences, which set them apart. In 1992, it won an Academy Award for Best Writing Adapted Screenplay, which really shows how much effort Jonathan Demme, the director put into this film to keep the same plot. The small differences throughout, really sway the reader or viewer to make a decision on which one really captured the storyline better. In the film, the backstory of Jack Crawford is not really shown. In the book, however, the reader can really tell how much effort and sacrifice he made for the job he has. Because of all of Crawford s effort, it really built Clarice s character. Clarice in the story is seen as a second chance for Crawford because of his mistakes he made with Will Graham. Both stories really mirror each other and fit into each other. In the film, however, it is hard to fit so much tiny detail into a two hour film, so the movie wasn t able to show the small details about Clarice. The book nevertheless, was able to shape Clarice as an individual. But, during the film Jodi Foster, the actor who played Clarice Starlingin the film, was really able to embrace her character and brought as much detail as she could. Another small detail about Dr. Lecter is in the book, he is described as having red eyes and six fingers on one hand, but in the film, he has blue eyes and both hands only have 5 fingers. In a crucial scene, in the novel, it sways the guard s attention from his other hand, in which he holds a makeshift key to his handcuffs. This allows him to escape from his cage. This was done in the book, to make him seem creeper, but Anthony Hopkins, the actor who played Dr. Lecter, really understood the

Additionally, patients are finding that insurance either does not cover orthopedic surgery (such as knee/hip replacement) or imposes unreasonable restrictions on the choice of the facility, surgeon, or prosthetics to be used. Medical tourismfor knee/hip replacements has emerged as one of the more widely accepted procedures because of the lower cost and minimal difficulties associated with the traveling to/from the surgery. Colombia provides a knee replacement for about $5,000 USD, including all associated fees, such as FDA approved prosthetics and hospital stay over expenses. However, many clinics quote prices that are not all inclusive and include only the surgeon fees associated with the procedure.[7] According to an article by the University of Delaware publication, Udaily: The cost of surgery in India, Thailand or South Africa can be one tenth of what it is in theUnited States or Western Europe, and sometimes even less. A heart valve replacement that would cost $200,000 or more in the US, for example, goes for $10,000 in India and that includes round trip airfare and a brief vacation package. Similarly, a metal free dental bridge worth $5,500 in the US costs $500 in India, a knee replacement in Thailand with six days of physical therapy costs about onefifth of what it would in the States, and Lasik eye surgery worth $3,700 in the US is available in many other countries for only $730. Connell utilizes the strength of the story by combining the setting with mood to observe the reaction of the characters when the environment around them changes. For example, as the poisonous [air] ; engulfs the yacht, it gives Whitney a mental chill; a sort of sudden dread ; as Rainsford and him sail precariously towards the island (62). Whitney, frightened by the grim nature around him, feels like a wounded bird fighting for its life among the hungry predators hiding in the unknown. The shroud of darkness completely surrounds not only Whitney, but the entire yacht which leaves him in a state of anxiety because of what lies in cover amid the dreadful island. Furthermore, as the eyes of Zaroff scatter over the island, searching for Rainsford, Rainsford froze there, every muscle tensed ; afraid that the eyes will see (73). With shelter high above in the trees, away from Zaroff, Rainsford awaits for the perfect moment where he will jump down from among the sky and pounce on Zaroff like a leopard killing its prey. Consequently, while Rainsford keeps repeating the moment of victory inside his mind; the self confidence, overflowing out of his veins, develops into uncertainty. Since Zaroff possesses the island and with his military expertise, scouts the island for any advantages in hunt; Rainsford fears that Zaroff will counter the surprise attack and kill him, making the hunter become the prey. Each of the three literary writings has a character that is considered rebellious within the norms of society. A rebellious person is someone who does not follow the rules that are given to them. The poem The Unknown Citizenby W. H. Audenis mainly about an unnamed man who is a conformist, because he listens to all the rules that are made for the society. On the other hand, the short story A P by John Updike and the play Antigone by Sophoclesthere is a conformist character which enforces the rules set in place, and a rebellious character which goes against the principles of society. • 56. Lab Report On Protein Purification Lab Report 4 Introduction: Protein purification is a process that can be employed to separate a single protein from a larger starting material which may be anything from an organ to a cell. Isolating a purified protein from a larger fraction enables further analysis such as determination of amino acid sequence, potential biological function, and even evolutionary relationship. (Cuatrecasas 1970) In this experiment, the enzyme lactate dehydrogenase will be purified, this enzyme is found extensively in human cells and catalyzes the conversion of lactate to pyruvate, an essential part in energy production. LDH is a key part of anaerobic energy production especially within glycolysis in which LDH catalyzes the conversion of the reverse reaction, pyruvate to lactate, generating NAD+ from NADH, reproducing the oxidized form of the coenzyme which can be used for oxidative respiration. (Markert 1963) Due to the fact that number of purification steps correlates with the purity of the protein multiple purification techniques will be used to isolate a pure form of LDH. LDH will be isolated from a larger cytosol fraction collected from a homogenized rat liver in a previous fractionation exercise. Of the procedures that will be used to isolate and purify proteins from a larger fractionate are a set of techniques collectively known as chromatography. These techniques all have the same premise, in that they consist of a stationary phase, also known as the
