Evolution Of The 1920s
The 1920 s were a time of change. New ideas were becoming more readily experimented with and
even accepted by large portions of the population. Some of these included jazz music and the
fight against the alcoholic prohibition. The radical idea I will focus on in this paper, however, is
Evolution. It is a theory that had been around for over half a century before the 20 s but had only
more recently caught on in the US. It contradicted the Christian theory of Divine Creation as
described in the Bible. This caused many religious fundamentalists to fight against it. They took
their battle to the law books, and they were challenged by pro evolution modernists in the Scopes
Monkey Trial of 1925.
The theory of Evolution was developed by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) was on the forefront of the challenge against the
Butler Act. The ACLU is a non profit organization founded in 1920 whose stated mission is to
defend and preserve the individual rights and liberties guaranteed to every person in this country
by the Constitution and laws of the United States. It posted an announcement in a Tennessee
newspaper saying that it would offer its services to anyone willing to challenge the anti
evolution statute. John T. Scopes accepted the offer, after townspeople like George Rappleyea
argued that a trial would bring publicity to the small town of Dayton. Scopes was a 24 year old
science teacher and coach of the local high school football team. He was indicted by a grand jury
for violating the Butler Law on May 25, 1925 and the stage was set for Case Number 5232, Scopes
v. State.
The main player for the prosecution was William Jennings Bryan, a three time presidential nominee
and former Secretary of State. He was a devout Christian, a prohibitionist, and fighter of evolution.
In a way, Bryan embodied the traditional way of life that many fought to keep during the twenties.
For the defense, there was Clarence Darrow, an agnostic lawyer who was famous for defending the
underdog in a trial. He, in a way, represented

Conservation of Momentum Practical Write Up
CONSERVATION OF MOMENTUM PRACTICAL WRITE UP
AIM: To investigate if momentum is conserved in two dimensional interactions within an isolated
system.
HYPOTHESIS: Without the effects of friction the momentum will be conserved in the isolated
system. In all three experiments the momentum before the interaction will equal the momentum
after the interaction.
METHOD: An air hockey table was set up and a video camera on a tripod was placed over the air
hockey table. The camera was positioned so it was directly above the air hockey table facing
downwards. The air hockey table was turned on and two near identical pucks were placed on the
table, one at one end of the table and one in the centre. The puck at the end of the table was
launched by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This would have created friction which is regarded as an external force; therefore the pucks were
no longer in an isolated system. Another random error occurred in the first experiment where the
red puck was initially held down to prevent it from moving and released when the black puck
collided with it. Due to the person s reaction time, holding it in place may have interfered with the
collision as it was an external force and this may have impacted upon the results.
Several systematic occurred in this experiment, but the most important one would have been the
fact that the air hockey table was not completely level. This impacted upon the experiment in two
ways. In the first experiment where the red puck is initially stationary, as the table was not level it
moved around before the black puck collided with it. To overcome this the red puck had to be held
in place and as mentioned before this would have provided and external force acting upon the puck.
The unevenness of the air hockey table also meant that there was a possibility of friction acting on
the pucks while they were moving. In the third collision with the Velcro another systematic error
occurred. When the two pucks collided and stuck together they did not continue straight, instead
they rotated. This is not linear momentum but rather it is angular momentum. This is reflected in
the results as the magnitude of the initial and final momentum of the system is equal, but the

The Fall of Krispy Kreme Donuts

Jon Plyler
Luke Sagur
Introduction
Since its IPO in April 2000, Krispy Kreme grew to be a top pick of Wall Street Analysts. The
company s growth seemed unstoppable and Krispy Kreme was able to beat Wall Street s
expectations. Krispy Kreme continued to outperform until 2004 when some accounting woes were
brought to light and analysts starting noticing other anomalies that indicated that things were not
quite as good as they seemed. The firm s stock price quickly plummeted from its peak and lost
more than 80 percent of its value in only 16 months.
This case study focuses on the use of financial statement analysis, and other factors that an equity

for helping to grow the business. Each Area Developers incur a one time franchise fee of up to

advertising fee. The franchise royalties account for approximately 4% of Krispy Kreme s revenue.
Krispy Kreme By The Numbers: Financial Statement Analysis
Krispy Kreme s investors enjoyed a quick return on their investment after the IPO. By the end of
2000 the stock price had doubled, then shot to a high of 4.5x the IPO price by mid 2001. Krispy
Kreme was one of the new glamour stocks on Wall Street, but from the standpoint of an educated
investor was it healthy enough to support the success of its stock? An analysis of the Krispy Kreme
financials should give some insight into the health of the company.
Krispy Kreme s revenue increased every year between 2000 and 2004, from $220m to over
$665m. Along with growing revenues, the operating and net profit margins also increased every
year. The operating margin increased from just under 4% in 2000 to over 15% by the end of
2004 and the net profit margin increased from just under 3% to over 8% during the same time
period. The ROA and ROE though the time period were relatively steady at an

Judaism
Judaism It is estimated that around 3.8 billion people in the world follow a religion that has either
branched off of or has been significantly influenced by Judaism. Judaism is an ancient religion
from the Middle East based off of the Hebrew Torah that teaches devotion to an all powerful
monotheistic God and the reality of an afterlife. Although only accounting for a tiny percent of the
world s religious followers, Judaismhas had a greater impact on the world than any other religion in
the history of mankind. The foundations of Judaism teach truths held by the world s most
prominent religions.
Judaism originated in ancient Mesopotamia. According to tradition, God revealed himself to
Abraham, the patriarch of the Hebrew people. God told ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yahweh is a single incomprehensible being. Unlike Christianity, God is not a trinity, he is one
being. The unity and oneness of God is an important element of the Jewish faith. The amount of
emphasis Jews put on the unity of God can be seen in the opening line of the most important
prayer of Judaism; The Shema. According to Tracey, R. Rich, creator of Judaism 101.org, The
Shema is one of only two prayers that are specifically commanded in Torah (the other is Birkat
Ha Mazon grace after meals). It is the oldest fixed daily prayer in Judaism, recited morning and
night since ancient times (Rich). The opening line of the Shema declares Hear, Israel, the Lord
is our God, the Lord is One (Rich). The Shema repeatedly declares God as the one and only
sovereign ruler over man and warns of worshipping anything besides him. The Shema, Warns
Beware, lest your heart be deceived and you turn and serve other gods and worship them. And
the anger of the Lord will blaze against you, and he will close the heavens and there will not be
rain, and the earth will not give you its fullness (Rich). It is clear that God in Judaism is opposed
to sharing his glory with anyone. God is mysterious and unknowable, he has only revealed so much
to humanity. Yahweh reveals himself to those who he uses as part of his divine plans. Yahweh

Beowulf And Greed
In Beowulf by John Gardener and The Hobbit, by J.R.R. Tolkien, greed and envy play an
omnipresent role, as it manifests itself into the societies of the texts, resulting in acts of war. Each
text utilizes similar methods in their depiction of greed, whereas their stances on battle seem to
differ. Throughout the course of the poem, Beowulf, the writer maintains a fairly positive attitude
towards the idea of war and battle in general. Influences from the Anglo Saxon culture, such as
fighting to the death and electing a king through success in battle are key components in the text.
However, the latter half of the poem shifts views, as it is acts of war that eventually kill Beowulf.
Grendel acts as a supporting text of Beowulf, as it provides... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Characters such as Unferth act as a mouthpiece for the writer of Grendel, as he represents the
heroic ambition in all warriors of the time. During the Anglo Saxon period, if one was to retreat
from battle as a coward, they would be faced with an array of retribution. Unferth was well aware
of this standard of the time, as it is shown in the scene where he refuses to retreat from Grendel s
home, even when in the face of death. Instead of retreating from battle to spare one s life,
warriors were taught to believe only in remaining in battle and defend their people. If one was to
perish in battle, they would be forever remembered as a heroic being. When Unferth is on the
brink of death, he explains such notion to Grendel, telling him to kill him so that he may die as
one of the most worthy, at the hands of the beast. Quote Grendel responds to this by threatening
to take him back down to the mead hall, and action that would ironically humiliate Unferth.
Another scene where this notion of kill or die trying is seen in one of the latter scenes in the
poem. In an attempt to slay the dragon for terrorizing his people, Beowulf heads to his lair, but
when confronted by the beast, all of Beowulf s warriors cower in fear and flee. As a result of
their actions, Beowulf perishes in battle, and they are heavily reprimanded. It was believed that
not only were Beowulf s men failing to meet their oath to protect Beowulf himself, they also
broke God s will, for if they were to die in battle, that would be their fate. Although Unferth may
show great pride in protecting his people, the overall mood of his encounter with Grendel is rather
anti heroic, as it makes him seem inferior to the beast despite his

Opositions to Thomas Malthus Theory on Population Growth
Thomas Malthus was an early 19th century English scholar who specializes in political economy
and demographics. One of his most well known and influential works An Essay on the Principle of
Population argued that the increase in population growth would ultimately create social and
economic problems for a nation. On the contrary, many famous political economists such as Ester
Boserup and Julian Simon suggested different views about populationand resource growth; which
contradicts the Malthus theory. Thomas Malthus wrote An Essay on the Principle of Population
argued that the increasing rate of population growth is the impetus of many social and economic
issues that affects our society. His belief was that population increases in geometrical scale whilst
basic supply for humans increase in arithmetical scale, I SAID THAT POPULATION, WHEN
UNCHECKED, increased in a geometrical ratio, and subsistence for man in an arithmetical ratio.
(Quoted from An Essay on the Principle of Population, Chapter 2, page 6) Malthus believed that
overpopulation would lead to mass malnutrition, famine, disease and even war. He proposed two
kinds of method that could keep the population in a sustainable level. First is preventative checks,
which suggested using moral restrains such as the practice of abstinence and criminal punishments
for those who had children that they could not support. The other method is positive checks.
Positive checks are factors that could increase the death

Gender Beliefs Of Gender Bias In The Workplace
Gender Bias in the Workplace
Brittney A. Bray
College of Central Florida
Stereotypes
Women have long fought for the right to be viewed as equal within the work place. Over the past
decades the percentage of women in management has risen from a mere 13.8% in 1950 to 50.6%
in 2007 (Latu, 2000). However, gender stereotype bias and discrimination are still present in the
modern workforce. Gender stereotypes are beliefs of how men and women should be and act.
When evaluators don t have clear criteria, ambiguity causes gender stereotypes to fill the voids.
Leading to differences in the way men and women are evaluated. This happens, in most cases, on
an unconscious level, though it does still occur consciously. It has been shown by psychologists
that we routinely categorize individuals within milliseconds of meeting them, we classify them by
their gender. In doing this we assume they will possess certain gender role traits, either feminine or
masculine. Men are expected to have strong leadership traits, while women are known to have
nurturing, submissive qualities. The cause of gender discrimination is based on cultural beliefs and
organizational policies. Women are most vulnerable to gender discrimination and sexual harassment
when they are in a male dominated environment, they may also be perceived as a threat.
How gender stereotypes put women at a disadvantage.
When woman don t conform to their gender roles they are often criticized. For example; when

Strong Characterism In Ship Breaker By Paolo Bacigalupi
Killing isn t free. It takes something out of you every time you do it. You get their life; the get a
piece of your soul. It s always a trade. Sadhna, a prominent character in Ship Breaker, says.
Strong theme, harsh tone, powerful message, good dialog, strong character development, an overall
amazing story. Paolo Bacigalupi s sci fi post apocalyptic book Ship Breaker includes everything a
book would need to attract multiple audiences, and keep readers intrigued.
Ship Breaker by Paolo Bacigalupi is set in a post apocalyptic world where the ocean levels have
risen and oil is scarce. The story focuses on a boy named Nailer. Who is on a light crew. He gets

But the place where this takes place is very unique. Such a simple story arch, but with a twist of
death, savagery, and an apocalypse.
Bacigalupi creates strong character development with Nailer. He starts out the book with Nailer
being afraid of his father and is sceptical of killing and the subject of death. But once he sees
Blue Eyes get killed he realizes that killing is essential to survive in his world. In the beginning
of the story one of his light crew members, Sloth, doesn t help him out of a oil tanker. Nailer is
forced to do it himself, and is ready to die. But then he realizes that he must man up and get out of
the tanker. This is where Nailers determination, later in the story, comes from.
Whilst reading the story you will feel like it has gone by fast. This has to do with Bacigalupi s
writing. He writes in a very fast paced way, but when he needs to slow down and focus on
something he will. He also writes with a lot of figurative language which creates a picture of what
is happening in the reader s

The point of the protective tariffs was that the Northern states would manufacture their own
products to avoid benefitting foreign countries. This was a disadvantage for the South as they
had no benefits from it. Polk had appointed his Secretary of the Treasure, Robert J. Walker, to
lower the tariff rates of products to a standard rate, this was known as the Walker Tariff. It
lowered the taxes on items that were a necessity, and increased for luxury items. The political
effects of the Walker Tariff was political conflict between the North and the South. The North was
against such a law because it provided less profit from the South. The South benefitted in a way
that they did not have to pay too much on exports of foreign countries. This benefitted the United
States economically because it encouraged the South to trade and export their extra crops to
countries abroad. As a result, relations among America and Britain had improved because the
Walker Tariff encouraged free trade between them. It also allowed Britain to import the grains

The Principle Of Population By Thomas Malthus
POLS1301 Essay One
Thomas Malthus 1798 An Essay on the Principle of Population, Chapter 1
Thomas Malthus was an English philosopher who lived from 1766 to 1834, An Essay on the
Principle of Population, is one of the most influential pieces of writing in history. Not only did it
help to establish the modern field of economics, it aided Charles Darwin on his regarding
evolutionary science. Malthus core argument that runs a majority of the book is dedicated to the
Iron Law of Population . This essay will seek to examine the premises of Thomas Malthus 1798 an
Essay on the Principle of Population and conclude on its argument as well as provide a justification
of the invalidity of the argument. In addition, it will identify its multiple influences on historical
contexts throughout time.
The most persistent theory written by Thomas Malthus in 1798 regarding population growth and
the effects on humanity, which is rather ironic as it has a almost lack of connection to the actual
history of humanity and its population growth. In 100CE the population of the Earth was
estimated to be under one billion people, roughly at 200 million people, following on almost 2
millennia later to 1800CE the population had seen a mere growth to approximately 800 million.
During this time Malthus wrote a piece regarding the slow growth in population and why this was
rate was the way things would be for the rest of human life. He put forward that the limits of human

Essay On Abolishment Of The Juvenile Courts
I am arguing against the abolishment of the juvenile courts, as opposed to the alternative, which
leaves juveniles no chance of rehabilitation and returning to society. The intent of the juvenile court
was to rehabilitee and return the juvenile to society through intervention and supervision, rather
than focusing on the guilt and punishment. The juvenile courts were given great discretion to
evaluate the individual needs of each juvenile. Therefore, the juvenile courts were designed to
operate like social welfare agencies to focus on the best interests of the child. The juvenile courts
purpose is to recognize the differences between juveniles and adults. Position As we learned in
CJAD330 and other juvenile related courses, the juvenile court was informal and there was no
determining guilt or innocence, so it did not require legal representation. The doctrine of parens
patriac give judges the authority to act in loco parentis, basically permits the state to act in place of
the parents. Throughout the years the juvenile courts acted under a traditional model of treatment
and rehabilitation, which all brought concerns about excessive punishment and lack of legal
protections for juveniles that extended due process protections to juveniles. The juvenile courts
have become more formal; juveniles were given the right to legal representation, and more
adversarial. How should juveniles be handled? Do juveniles have due process safeguards? Whether
or not to abolish the juvenile

Analysis Of The Robot Invasion By Charlie Gillis
In the article The Robot Invasion by Charlie Gillis, it discusses how robotics will become an
everyday part of society, how robotics will be used in labor and manufacturing instead of humans
doing jobs that are hazardous, tough, and grimy. The author argues the world will be occupied
with these robotics in the upcoming future which will alter the job industry and change how
chores in households will be done. Making humanity worry whether or not they will lose their
jobs or be killed by a rouge robot. The planet changing as robot technology develops more and
takes over jobs is not an irrational dispute. For decades, engineers and sci fi writers have forecast
a time when autonomous machines would become enough like living creatures to share our
homes and work spaces, performing the three Ds of human labor . The statement has a good
take to reel in the attentiveness of the readers, drawing them in with what they have seen on TV
and media. Robots have been very popular in sci fi shows and movies, which has made humanity

robots will take over the earth and harm humanity which is a great way to show that people will
have a difficult time accepting the advancement in robotic technology being used in everyday life.

Effects of Nurse Staffing on Patients Outcomes
This study focuses on the issue of nursing staffing and its effects on the outcomes of the patients.
To begin with, the tem nursing staffing will be defined and followed by a discussion of nursing
staffing in relation to the nurses themselves. Nursing staffing levels and their effects on the patient
outcomes will also be discussed with regards to morbidity and mortality besides other indicators of
patient outcomes, the impact of nursing staffing levels to quality of care as well as an overview of
past studies as far as the relationship between nursing staffing levels and the outcome of the patient
is concerned.

Additionally, the factors that were found to profoundly affect this opinion are the competence of
the staff, teamwork, flexible delivery system, and a balance of positions in relation to the needs of
the patients that are under their care.
The study by Aiken et al in 2002 revealed that there was a higher chance of nurses experiencing job
related burnout in hospitals with high Patient nurse ratios. Further, nurses in institutions which had
the highest rates of patient to nurse ratios were twice likely to suffer from dissatisfaction from their
jobs. These influenced the decisions of nurses to leave their current jobs and thus creating more
staffing problems that would lead to more negative patient outcomes.
Nursing Staffing and the Patient There are various outcomes that are thought to be directly related

Creative Thinking With A Traveling Mindset
In Alain de Botton s essay, On Habit and Adam Gopnik essay, Bumping into Mr. Ravioli explain
the way that individuals can think creatively and express their feelings and thoughts into newer
meaning and in depth ideas. They also explain the way that the human race are so engaged in
technology and busyness that they are overlooking what really is important to them in their life. De

He further explains and says, The crowding of our space has been reinforced of our time, and the
only way to protect ourselves is to build structures of perpetual deferral: I ll see you next week,
let s talk soon (Gopnik 158). He feels that adults need to deal with the problems in a way to make
time for their family and friends. These individuals should not push their problems aside and wait
for a later date to deal with the situation and approach the issue with determination to complete the
job. Social media activism motivates the individual to help a cause, but there is little sacrifice in
creating an impact. The situation may not affect their family and friends so they are not motivated
to go further and exceed expectations. Since technology makes adults feel busy, individuals feel
overworked and at a sense of hardship because they feel it is not important enough to embrace the
assignment at hand. Just as Gopnik stated, de Botton took this applying the behavior of optimistic
insight and imposing goal allowing an individual to change their behavior without changing the
physical environment. Unfortunately, many individuals lack this tool in approaching environment
they are familiar with. Alain de Botton explains that destination is now what fulfills our goals and
says, The pleasure we derive from journeys is perhaps dependent more on the mindset in which we
travel than on the destination we travel to (de Botton 61). If an individual applies the behavior of an

this must be done in a sensitive and caring manner. An example of this is a year 4 Portuguese boy
in my class. He has been with us for 2 years. He recently asked me can I drink water please . I told
him the correct way to ask was can I have a drink of water please . He now asks correctly each time.

Basic Concepts Of Organization Design
Basic Approach to Organization Design
Organizing is basically about who does what. It means defining responsibilities, building structures
and developing relationships (Boutros Purdie, 2013). The main element in organization is people
what they do how they work together.
When organizing a new organization structure, you must be advisable on:
what the organization is there to do
circumstance which the activities are carried out (technology, rate of growth or change,
management/style, outside environment)
requirements to achieve the aim of the organization
group related activities
establish relationships that should exist in the organization (vertically/within functions horizontally
/between functions)
ensuring that everyone in the organization understands their responsibilities, authority, structure,
relationships.
Boutros Purdie, 2013
The process of structuring an organization is akin to building something with a box of bricks. The
bricks are the key activities or groups. First thing to do is define what these bricks are. Then this is
fitted together to build up a structure. There will be several ways which these bricks can be
grouped together. Experimenting with alternative arrangements will help decide which pattern
looks best. These could be an outcome of two to three structures (Boutros Purdie, 2013).
These constant changes cause organizational problems within the structure.
Formal and informal organizations: A formal organizationcan be a

The Effects Of Stress On Our Lives
ROUGH DRAFT
Brenna Lawrason #5687561
Stress is something that people are experiencing everyday based off things occurring in our
everyday lives. Stress is different for everyone depending on what kind of situation it is brought
upon which could vary from school work, family issues, personal problems etc. The questionnaires
entitled Social Readjustment Scale (Miller Rahe, 1997) and the Lifestyle and Habits Questionnaire
(Dinzeo, T.J., Thayasivam, U., Sledjeski, E.M., 2014) to determine what leads to high stress
levels in our lives. In the questionnaire, it describes a range of life changing events ranked from
highest to lowest levels of stress. This study that was created in 1965, their purpose was to build
on the 43 original events by adding an additional 44 events to the list. The events were duplicated
the number of events to minimize possible errors in the experiment with the overall goal to see
how a group of people could relate to similar life changing events.
High Levels of stress have a direct correlation with unhealthy behaviours affecting how our bodies
work and function. When stress is presented to people, they begin to engage in unhealthy
behaviours and activities, which lead to habits that is found to decrease in overall health. Stress
within College students is examined quite extensively to see what causes them stress, and what
kind of health issues is brought upon them. In the article entitled Stress at college: Effects on health

The Polish Of The Soviet Union
The Polish people had been taken advantage of, since before World War II, when the Nazi s

Polish independence and the first elected Polish president.

Describe the life of Akhenaten
Akhenaten was a pharaoh of Egypt in the 18th Dynasty. He was born in Egypt and died in Egypt.
His birth name was Amenhotep however after he was named pharaoh, his name changed as it
represented the sun god of Aten, Living spirit of aten , which was a new religion at the time.
Akhenaten ruled Egypt for 17 years and was also known for changing the religion of ancient Egypt
and building Amarna (a city in Egypt), in 1346 BC. In his first year of being a pharaoh, he built a
temple dedicated to Aten. In his third year, he celebrated a Sed festival and the place he celebrated

ideal religion for his people and the Israelites. Egyptian people couldn t worshipped Aten but they
had to worship the king and the royal family which meant that Akhenaten had the most power
influence in the religious life of Egypt. For that reason, Akhenaten s thinking was very politically
different. He ordered people to erase Amun, an Egyptian god and his consort Mut. He removed
monuments and documents from Egypt s empire. As consequent of this, Akhenaten s name was
removed from the pharaohs list because he did not follow the traditional of ancient God s rule. He

Hunting In North America Essay
Pierce 1
Hunting in North America
All throughout North America there is a large diversity of animals, ranging from muskox to wild
turkey. For every animal in North America there is a daring or conservative hunter willing to test
their abilities and sometimes put their bodies to the test as they attempt to harvest some of God s
great creations. North America has one of the largest varieties of terrains in the world. This allows
many different species of animals to thrive in environments but may also limit one species from
living in all parts of the continent. The different environments forces hunters to use different tactics
to succeed in getting an animal. This could be negative 40 degrees in Northern Canada, or 95
degrees in South Florida.
In Northern Canada up around and in the Arctic Circle, there are large sometimes unseen animals.
These animals may go their whole lives without seeing a human. These are some of the hardest
hunts in the world. They are also some of the hardest to book. If you were to try to book a hunt in

that hearing Nona is pregnant shocked her a lot, and as Nona doesn t know who the father is, it

On the American side, there was a lot of bad effects after the battle. The Continental armyhad a
loss of more than 300 troops killed, 700 wounded, and nearly 1,000 captured. Among the
captured were Sullivan, Stirling, and Nathan Hale. Nale was an American spy in enemy territory
who was captured by the British. He was hung for treason by the British in front of the Dove
Tavern. His famous last words, My only regret is I have but one life to give my country, were
uttered before his death. The meaning of the words are that he would do anything for his country,
even lay down his life. The Americans lost New York City, losing communications between the
North and South colonies. When Washington lost control of New York City, he also lost control of
surrounding areas when Washington was forced to retreat through New Jersey and to Pennsylvania.
The British had more good effects than bad ones. The bad effects were that less than 64 killed, 31
missing and 293 wounded. The good effects are that they gained control of New York City, and

Wearable Medical Devices Using Delta Sigma Processing...
3.3 Research Objective 3: Wearable Medical Devices using Delta Sigma Processing Circuits
The goal of this research objective is to apply the proposed Delta Sigma DSP circuits to wearable
medical sensors, more specifically to an EEG signal processor. Examples of questions that we
wish to address are: How much power can be saved by using Delta Sigma circuits instead of
conventional DSP circuits? What is the trade off between processing accuracy and power
consumption? How can an efficient interface be designed between Delta Sigma Processing
circuits and peripheral devices?
3.3.1 Background and Rationale
Wearable EEG signal processors are imminently expected by researchers, clinical doctors and
patients [127 131]. One of the main ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It would also allow the patients to wear the device outside the laboratory, creating more
opportunities to capture elusive phenomena [134]. This would require a low power device
implementing a hardware efficient EEG processing algorithm.
The Cross frequency coupling (CFC) algorithm is one of the most promising EEG signal processing
methods [135 137]. CFC, which highlights the correlation between the high frequency
amplitude and the low frequency phase of EEG signals, is an attractive means of studying
cognitive brain tasks [138] and disorders such as epilepsy [136] and schizophrenia [137]. Several
metrics have been developed to measure this coupling, including the modulation index [136]
and the phase locking value (PLV) [135]. However, like other EEG processing algorithms, CFC
involves a large number of MAC operations. If it is implemented in an ASIC using conventional
circuits, it consumes too much circuit area and power, increasing the cost of the device and
reducing its battery lifetime. Based on our preliminary results, we propose to use Delta Sigma
based linear processing circuits for CFC based EEG processors. The proposed project could
dramatically reduce circuit area and power and create a wearable CFC EEG processor.

The Country Of Nicaragua And The Center Of Central America
The country of Nicaragua, located in the center of Central America, is one the poorest nations in
Latin America. Nicaragua s citizens are primarily mestizo who account for almost 70% of the
population. With a population of nearly six million, 58.8% of Nicaraguans live in urban areas,
with nearly 2% of citizens migrating from rural areas to the cities in search of jobs and better
welfare. However, internal migration to rural areas also exist seasonally for agricultural labor. Due
to the current economic standing of the nation, Nicaraguas current population growth rests at 1%,
while losing 3 out of 1,000 citizens due to emigration. While the nation has seen small growth in its
GDP at a 4.5% growth rate, many Nicaraguans continue to migrate out of the nation. In 2009, is
was estimated that 42.5% of Nicaraguans lived below the poverty line, with the lowest 10% of
citizens sharing 1.4% in household income. In 2008, it was recorded that underemployment rate
was at 46.5% (CIA Factbook). When looking at the statistics and numbers for this nation, it is easy
to understand the reasoning for many Nicaraguans emigrating out of their country. With such a high
percentage of Nicaraguans living under the poverty line, many of them have chosen to leave the
country. A majority Central American immigrants decide to migrate outside of the region. In a

W.T. Anderson s Efforts to Aid in Georgia s Advancement...
As editor of the Macon Telegraph from 1914 through 1940 , W.T. Anderson saw cities throughout
the Southern United States, such as Macon, characterized by sheer bedlam and agonizing
dejection following the Civil War. He sought to advertise the state of Georgia and the city of
Macon as progressive and reformed in order to attract the northern investors and capital necessary
to revitalize the region. Reforming state institutions and social climate, or at the very least creating
and maintaining the façade of Southern progressivism, became the primary focus of the
Telegraph. Following his arrival in 1914, Anderson took a progressive stance on lynching, a heinous
act which both made a mockery of the judicial system and race relations, in order to aid economic
and industrially advancement of the South, in particular Georgia, during this era.
Lynchings were commonplace, yet one of the most heinous acts of mob justice dealt out in the
Jim Crow era. Between the years 1880 and 1930, 3,343 lynchings occurred in the United States.
Eighty percent of lynchings occurred in the American South with the majority of these occurring
in Mississippi and Georgia (Manis 56). Macon was not an exception to the outburst of lynchings.
Six known lynchings occurred in Bibb County: one in 1880 s, one in the 1890 s, one in 1912, and
three in years spanning from 1918 to 1922 (Manis 57). The three lynchings that occurred from

Whisking By Ehrenreich Summary
Ehrenreich discusses how the employers manage to disclose any information of pay to
applicants during interviews in this way: I have mentioned the way the hiring process seems
designed, in some cases, to prevent any discussion or even disclosure of wage whisking the
applicant from interview to orientation before the crass subject of money can be raised. Some
employers go further; instead of relying on the informal money taboo to keep workers from
discussing and comparing wages, they specifically enjoin workers from doing so. (207)
Ehrenreich uses a dash instead of a comma or a colon. Dashes aren t as formal as colons but
provide more emphasis than commas. She could have ended the sentence where the dash began
but she decided to include the part where applicants are rushed into orientation before the talk of
pay comes up. This dash made everything stop short. The author connects these two together to
create more emphasis on the crooked hiring process. It shows that she felt it necessary to bring
the actual process to surface because it is often hidden. The true intentions of employers had to be
exposed to show that many workers go into work blind of their actual pay. It reveals how unfair it
is for applicants. It felt as though the author was suddenly stopped... Show more content on

together to make one. The goal for both scenarios is to have a finished product without any

The Creation, Creation And Creation In The Hebrew Bible
Throughout the history of mankind, the most common and unanswered question has been the
origin or creation of the universe. Whether it is the creation of plants or the cosmos, origin stories
and theories have been concepts at the forefront of human curiosity. In the Hebrew Bible, the origin
of mankind and the universeis not told in one story, but in two contrasting tales. Along with these
two contradicting stories come different purposes and lessons given to the reader. Both stories
center around the Lord, creator of the universe, but tell of two conflicting beginnings for the
universe. The two stories are meant to give the reader a sense of welcoming and amazement in the
Lord, and also to provide a sense of reason to humanity and its place on earth. These stories are set
in a specific order to amplify their lessons and compliment each other with their contrasting
details. The two creation stories can be found in Genesis. The first story involves the Lord as the
protagonist, and the creator of all things good. First, light was created, followed by the universe,
the earth, the plants, the animals, and concludes with the creation of humans. In this first story, it
takes the Lord six days to create the entire universe, including its inhabitants. On the seventh day
He (the Lord) rests (Gen 2:2 NIV). Today the seventh day is known as the Sabbath, or Sunday.
This story is poetic, and can be seen as an entrance hymn into the Hebrew Bible. It does not go into
detail as to how all things were made, but it covers the greatness in accomplishing everything in
such a short amount of time. The Lord created everything and He thought it was good, giving the
reader a joyous story to begin his or her journey into the Hebrew Bible (The Two Creation Stories).
The first story is not meant to teach a lesson, but to give beauty to the world around the reader.
The lesson provides an understanding of a seven day week, why many did not work on Sunday,
and where the universe began. The first creation story is used to put the reader in amazement of
the Lord. The reader is given an explanation as to the most common things in life, and is able to
understand the origin of everything he or she can see. The Lord can create the universe in

How Exercise And Different Body Positions Essay
Purpose
The purpose of this experiment was to become familiar with the electrocardiograph to help us
determine the heart electrical activity. As well as, to observe how exercise and different body
positions(conditions) can affect the activity of the heart.
Introduction
Trained professionals can look at the EKG tracing and determine if the heart is normal or if the heart
is abnormal. An ECG records the electrical activity of the heart. The heart produces tiny electrical
impulses which spread through the heart muscle to make the heart contract (Kenny, 2015). There
are two different types of cells. Autorhythmic (electrical) cell begins electrical activity and triggers
contractile fiber, and contractile (myocardial) generates force to pump blood. With each heartbeat
the cardiac system starts with the pacemaker (called the SA node) that conducts electricity. The
electrical current travels from the SA node and signals the atria to contract. Then into the
Antrioventucular node, which signals the ventricles. Eventually, into a bundle of his, left and right
bundle branches, and lastly Purkinje fibers. Purkinje fibers then stimulate the contractile fibers. In
addition, the EKG (electrocardiogram) illustrates a series of waves and flat lines (isoelectric)
usually seen on computer monitors. Waves represent electrical activity through the heart and the
physical events that take place in the heart, systole (contraction occurs and blood pumps into the
arteries) and diastole (blood

The Field Of American Studies
In this essay, I will examine the field of American Studies and attempt to explain its ever changing
definition. I will take the reader through the origins of American Studies and describe the events
that led to changes in the discipline.
The scholars in American Studies are constantly seeking to understand the practices by individuals
and groups and their history of origin. Scholars struggle to understand how values and beliefs shape
social and political realities within the U.S. and other countries. American Studies is an
interdisciplinary study that explores cultures of the United States as well as their transnational
exchanges and impact.
In the words of Staurt Hall, he finds in American culture and in America s capacity to live with
difference the best illustration of a continuous dialect between the local and the global, between the
insular and the transnational. He defines culture as an embodiment of the best that has been
thought and said in a society. It is the sum of the great ideas as represented in the classic works of
painting, music, and philosophy that represent culture. (Hall, 9) Hall also has observed U.S.
dominance in communication and described America as the common factor of globalization.
The field of American Studies began in what may be called a single beginning with multiple
origins. The beginning of the American Studies Association in late 1951 and early 1952 and the
beginning of the journal, American Quarterly at the University of Minnesota in

Warfare In Medieval Italy
Incessant Warfare In the 14th century, the northern Italy was divided into many conflicting city
states. The most powerful of these city states were Milan, Florence, Pisa, Siena, Genoa, Ferrara,
Mantua, Verona, and Venice. The Medieval Italy was then divided by a long battle for supremacy
between the Holy Roman Empire and the Papacy.
The Italian Wars: 1494 1559 The Italian wars are a series of wars for control over Italythat were
fought mostly by France and Spain. The violent wars began in 1494 with the invasion by Charles
VIII, King of France which devastated Northern Italy and ended the independence of many city
states. He conquered Naples but was soon drove out of the country Maximilian I of Spain and the
pope of Rome. Much of the area outside of Venice was then devastated in 1499 by the Turkish
Invasion. King Louis XII took Milan, Genoa, and Naples in 1499 but in 1503 he was driven ... Show

After the Italian Wars Italy had a long period of prosperity and peace. The peaceful state was
first ruled under Habsburg Spain from 1559 to 1713 and then under Habsburg Austria from 1713
to 1796.The Black Death also had a large impact on Italy during their early modern period
including claiming 50,000 victims in Venice. In the 16th century the plague claimed about 14% of
Italy s population. The Great Plague of Milan also killed about half of Naples inhabitants in 1656.
The political situation in Italy in the 18th century was almost the same as it was in the 16th
century. The only difference was that instead of Spain ruling, Austria was now the dominant power
after the War of Spanish Succession. Another big difference was that the dukes of a mountainous
region between Italy and France known as Savoy had become kings of Sardinia. This occurred by
them increasing their Italian possessions. The possessions include Sardinia and the north west part

St Augustine Confessions Analysis
In his Confessions, St. Augustine presented his life from his adolescence through his adulthood and
conversion to Christianity. One of the most prominent themes throughout his narrative was the
reaction of weeping in a situation of separation. Whether it was Monica grieving when her son left
for Rome or Augustine lamenting the distance between himself and God, these scenes of weeping
proved incredibly crucial to the presentation of his life story, acting as frames for specific points
in his life. Through his placement and description of four specific scenes of weeping, Augustine
created a pattern of mirrored events that marked the distinction between his life prior to and after
his conversion. One of the first pressing occasions of a separation was the instance of Monica
weeping when she discovered that Augustine had left Christianity behind to be a Manichee. He
described that she wept for [him] before [God] more than mothers weep when lamenting their dead
children, as she was overwhelmed with sorrow that her son was separating himself from God (Conf.
3.19). Even though Augustine himself could not see that he was straying from salvation, Monica
perceived the death which held [him] and turned to God for guidance (Conf. 3.19). Through her
prayers, she was granted a dream from God in which a man asked her why she was downcast and
daily in flood of tears(Conf. 3.19). She replied that she mourned Augustine s separation from God,
to which the man told her to have no

Art of Love
The Art of Love
Framing for a Misogynist
The poetry of Ovid exemplified in The Art of Love is one of the only examples of the
contemporary social behavior exhibited during the time of Rome. Ovid writes about social
activities, proper style, women, and how to obtain them. Through Ovid s perspective, there are
three different ways to consider a woman. These three views include relating a woman to a game, a
beautiful treasure, and as a means to assert social status. Comparatively, Andreas Capellanuswrites
in a way that makes women seem respected, worthy and as something to a man would willingly
devote his life to. Both men have a clear fascination with women and their relationship to men.
However, their distinct writing styles cause ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The view Ovid takes on women is not always clear. In some passages he has a violent perspective
on women. Ovid writes about how he easily could have taken advantage of women, displaying a
negative viewpoint of ownership towards females. Similarly he says never a virgin there was
free from the lust of a hand , which shows that men desire women, and a virgin is held as a high
prize, one that is worth committing the act of adultery for (Art 1. 89 126). On the other end,
Capellanus views the trophy of virginity as futile and counters that while you know some other
man is enjoying the embraces of your beloved, this will make you begin to value her solaces all the
more (2.2, 3). Furthermore, he makes the argument against adultery, again opposing the views of
Ovid. Capellanus explains his argument in detail by stating that a man in love is adorned with the
virtue of chastity, because he who shines with the light of one love can hardly think of embracing
another woman, even a beautiful one (1.4, 2).
Contrary to many men who believe that a man must be strong and not show a woman his
tenderness, Ovid shares his heart, saying, do not think it a shame to suffer her blows or her curses;
do not think it a shame, stooping, to kiss her feet (Art 2. 522 553) . This is simply an outstanding
statement, as it serves to show the true emotion and character of Ovid. This statement cannot be
taken lightly

  • 2. Evolution Of The 1920s The 1920 s were a time of change. New ideas were becoming more readily experimented with and even accepted by large portions of the population. Some of these included jazz music and the fight against the alcoholic prohibition. The radical idea I will focus on in this paper, however, is Evolution. It is a theory that had been around for over half a century before the 20 s but had only more recently caught on in the US. It contradicted the Christian theory of Divine Creation as described in the Bible. This caused many religious fundamentalists to fight against it. They took their battle to the law books, and they were challenged by pro evolution modernists in the Scopes Monkey Trial of 1925. The theory of Evolution was developed by ... The ACLU is a non profit organization founded in 1920 whose stated mission is to defend and preserve the individual rights and liberties guaranteed to every person in this country by the Constitution and laws of the United States. It posted an announcement in a Tennessee newspaper saying that it would offer its services to anyone willing to challenge the anti evolution statute. John T. Scopes accepted the offer, after townspeople like George Rappleyea argued that a trial would bring publicity to the small town of Dayton. Scopes was a 24 year old science teacher and coach of the local high school football team. He was indicted by a grand jury for violating the Butler Law on May 25, 1925 and the stage was set for Case Number 5232, Scopes v. State. The main player for the prosecution was William Jennings Bryan, a three time presidential nominee and former Secretary of State. He was a devout Christian, a prohibitionist, and fighter of evolution. In a way, Bryan embodied the traditional way of life that many fought to keep during the twenties. For the defense, there was Clarence Darrow, an agnostic lawyer who was famous for defending the underdog in a trial. He, in a way, represented ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Conservation of Momentum Practical Write Up CONSERVATION OF MOMENTUM PRACTICAL WRITE UP AIM: To investigate if momentum is conserved in two dimensional interactions within an isolated system. HYPOTHESIS: Without the effects of friction the momentum will be conserved in the isolated system. In all three experiments the momentum before the interaction will equal the momentum after the interaction. METHOD: An air hockey table was set up and a video camera on a tripod was placed over the air hockey table. The camera was positioned so it was directly above the air hockey table facing downwards. The air hockey table was turned on and two near identical pucks were placed on the table, one at one end of the table and one in the centre. The puck at the end of the table was launched by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This would have created friction which is regarded as an external force; therefore the pucks were no longer in an isolated system. Another random error occurred in the first experiment where the red puck was initially held down to prevent it from moving and released when the black puck collided with it. Due to the person s reaction time, holding it in place may have interfered with the collision as it was an external force and this may have impacted upon the results. Several systematic occurred in this experiment, but the most important one would have been the fact that the air hockey table was not completely level. This impacted upon the experiment in two ways. In the first experiment where the red puck is initially stationary, as the table was not level it moved around before the black puck collided with it. To overcome this the red puck had to be held in place and as mentioned before this would have provided and external force acting upon the puck. The unevenness of the air hockey table also meant that there was a possibility of friction acting on the pucks while they were moving. In the third collision with the Velcro another systematic error occurred. When the two pucks collided and stuck together they did not continue straight, instead they rotated. This is not linear momentum but rather it is angular momentum. This is reflected in the results as the magnitude of the initial and final momentum of the system is equal, but the ... The company s growth seemed unstoppable and Krispy Kreme was able to beat Wall Street s expectations. Unlike Christianity, God is not a trinity, he is one being. The unity and oneness of God is an important element of the Jewish faith. The amount of emphasis Jews put on the unity of God can be seen in the opening line of the most important prayer of Judaism; The Shema. According to Tracey, R. Rich, creator of Judaism 101.org, The Shema is one of only two prayers that are specifically commanded in Torah (the other is Birkat Ha Mazon grace after meals). It is the oldest fixed daily prayer in Judaism, recited morning and night since ancient times (Rich). The opening line of the Shema declares Hear, Israel, the Lord is our God, the Lord is One (Rich). The Shema repeatedly declares God as the one and only sovereign ruler over man and warns of worshipping anything besides him. • 6. Beowulf And Greed In Beowulf by John Gardener and The Hobbit, by J.R.R. Tolkien, greed and envy play an omnipresent role, as it manifests itself into the societies of the texts, resulting in acts of war. Each text utilizes similar methods in their depiction of greed, whereas their stances on battle seem to differ. Throughout the course of the poem, Beowulf, the writer maintains a fairly positive attitude towards the idea of war and battle in general. Influences from the Anglo Saxon culture, such as fighting to the death and electing a king through success in battle are key components in the text. However, the latter half of the poem shifts views, as it is acts of war that eventually kill Beowulf. Grendel acts as a supporting text of Beowulf, as it provides... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Characters such as Unferth act as a mouthpiece for the writer of Grendel, as he represents the heroic ambition in all warriors of the time. During the Anglo Saxon period, if one was to retreat from battle as a coward, they would be faced with an array of retribution. Unferth was well aware of this standard of the time, as it is shown in the scene where he refuses to retreat from Grendel s home, even when in the face of death. Instead of retreating from battle to spare one s life, warriors were taught to believe only in remaining in battle and defend their people. If one was to perish in battle, they would be forever remembered as a heroic being. When Unferth is on the brink of death, he explains such notion to Grendel, telling him to kill him so that he may die as one of the most worthy, at the hands of the beast. Quote Grendel responds to this by threatening to take him back down to the mead hall, and action that would ironically humiliate Unferth. Another scene where this notion of kill or die trying is seen in one of the latter scenes in the poem. In an attempt to slay the dragon for terrorizing his people, Beowulf heads to his lair, but when confronted by the beast, all of Beowulf s warriors cower in fear and flee. As a result of their actions, Beowulf perishes in battle, and they are heavily reprimanded. It was believed that not only were Beowulf s men failing to meet their oath to protect Beowulf himself, they also broke God s will, for if they were to die in battle, that would be their fate. Although Unferth may show great pride in protecting his people, the overall mood of his encounter with Grendel is rather anti heroic, as it makes him seem inferior to the beast despite his ... • 7. Opositions to Thomas Malthus Theory on Population Growth Thomas Malthus was an early 19th century English scholar who specializes in political economy and demographics. One of his most well known and influential works An Essay on the Principle of Population argued that the increase in population growth would ultimately create social and economic problems for a nation. On the contrary, many famous political economists such as Ester Boserup and Julian Simon suggested different views about populationand resource growth; which contradicts the Malthus theory. Thomas Malthus wrote An Essay on the Principle of Population argued that the increasing rate of population growth is the impetus of many social and economic issues that affects our society. His belief was that population increases in geometrical scale whilst basic supply for humans increase in arithmetical scale, I SAID THAT POPULATION, WHEN UNCHECKED, increased in a geometrical ratio, and subsistence for man in an arithmetical ratio. (Quoted from An Essay on the Principle of Population, Chapter 2, page 6) Malthus believed that overpopulation would lead to mass malnutrition, famine, disease and even war. He proposed two kinds of method that could keep the population in a sustainable level. First is preventative checks, which suggested using moral restrains such as the practice of abstinence and criminal punishments for those who had children that they could not support. The other method is positive checks. Positive checks are factors that could increase the death ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Gender Beliefs Of Gender Bias In The Workplace Gender Bias in the Workplace Brittney A. Bray College of Central Florida Stereotypes Women have long fought for the right to be viewed as equal within the work place. Over the past decades the percentage of women in management has risen from a mere 13.8% in 1950 to 50.6% in 2007 (Latu, 2000). However, gender stereotype bias and discrimination are still present in the modern workforce. Gender stereotypes are beliefs of how men and women should be and act. When evaluators don t have clear criteria, ambiguity causes gender stereotypes to fill the voids. Leading to differences in the way men and women are evaluated. This happens, in most cases, on an unconscious level, though it does still occur consciously. It has been shown by psychologists that we routinely categorize individuals within milliseconds of meeting them, we classify them by their gender. In doing this we assume they will possess certain gender role traits, either feminine or masculine. Men are expected to have strong leadership traits, while women are known to have nurturing, submissive qualities. The cause of gender discrimination is based on cultural beliefs and organizational policies. Women are most vulnerable to gender discrimination and sexual harassment when they are in a male dominated environment, they may also be perceived as a threat. How gender stereotypes put women at a disadvantage. When woman don t conform to their gender roles they are often criticized. For example; when Hilary Clinton was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Essay On Abolishment Of The Juvenile Courts I am arguing against the abolishment of the juvenile courts, as opposed to the alternative, which leaves juveniles no chance of rehabilitation and returning to society. The intent of the juvenile court was to rehabilitee and return the juvenile to society through intervention and supervision, rather than focusing on the guilt and punishment. The juvenile courts were given great discretion to evaluate the individual needs of each juvenile. Therefore, the juvenile courts were designed to operate like social welfare agencies to focus on the best interests of the child. The juvenile courts purpose is to recognize the differences between juveniles and adults. Position As we learned in CJAD330 and other juvenile related courses, the juvenile court was informal and there was no determining guilt or innocence, so it did not require legal representation. The doctrine of parens patriac give judges the authority to act in loco parentis, basically permits the state to act in place of the parents. Throughout the years the juvenile courts acted under a traditional model of treatment and rehabilitation, which all brought concerns about excessive punishment and lack of legal protections for juveniles that extended due process protections to juveniles. The juvenile courts have become more formal; juveniles were given the right to legal representation, and more adversarial. How should juveniles be handled? Do juveniles have due process safeguards? De Botton is worried that many people do not go beyond limitations and need to explore their surrounding more and appreciate what is going on around them. He urges people to use their traveling mindset and try to approach their environments in a positive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He further explains and says, The crowding of our space has been reinforced of our time, and the only way to protect ourselves is to build structures of perpetual deferral: I ll see you next week, let s talk soon (Gopnik 158). He feels that adults need to deal with the problems in a way to make time for their family and friends. These individuals should not push their problems aside and wait for a later date to deal with the situation and approach the issue with determination to complete the job. Social media activism motivates the individual to help a cause, but there is little sacrifice in creating an impact. The situation may not affect their family and friends so they are not motivated to go further and exceed expectations. Since technology makes adults feel busy, individuals feel overworked and at a sense of hardship because they feel it is not important enough to embrace the assignment at hand. Just as Gopnik stated, de Botton took this applying the behavior of optimistic insight and imposing goal allowing an individual to change their behavior without changing the physical environment. Unfortunately, many individuals lack this tool in approaching environment they are familiar with. Alain de Botton explains that destination is now what fulfills our goals and says, The pleasure we derive from journeys is perhaps dependent more on the mindset in which we travel than on the destination we travel to (de Botton 61). They learn to communicate with others through three main ways: they are Speaking, Reading and Writing. These three areas interact with each other and develop the Childs self expression and imagination. This could be made up of cards matching pictures to their English word cards, for example, a picture of a horse will match to the word horse . As their English progresses, they would become more involved in the lessons that the whole class is doing, but we would be considerate by using more basic language so that it gives the child confidence in what they are doing. Correcting their grammar is essential; otherwise they fall into lazy habits. However, this must be done in a sensitive and caring manner. An example of this is a year 4 Portuguese boy in my class. He now asks correctly each time. 1.2, Summarise the relevant policy and age related expectations of learners relevant to literacy development in the setting. It means defining responsibilities, building structures and developing relationships (Boutros Purdie, 2013). The main element in organization is people what they do how they work together. When organizing a new organization structure, you must be advisable on: what the organization is there to do circumstance which the activities are carried out (technology, rate of growth or change, management/style, outside environment) requirements to achieve the aim of the organization group related activities establish relationships that should exist in the organization (vertically/within functions horizontally /between functions) ensuring that everyone in the organization understands their responsibilities, authority, structure, relationships. Boutros Purdie, 2013 The process of structuring an organization is akin to building something with a box of bricks. The bricks are the key activities or groups. First thing to do is define what these bricks are. Then this is fitted together to build up a structure. There will be several ways which these bricks can be grouped together. Experimenting with alternative arrangements will help decide which pattern looks best. These could be an outcome of two to three structures (Boutros Purdie, 2013). These constant changes cause organizational problems within the structure. Formal and informal organizations: A formal organizationcan be a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Stress is different for everyone depending on what kind of situation it is brought upon which could vary from school work, family issues, personal problems etc. The questionnaires entitled Social Readjustment Scale (Miller Rahe, 1997) and the Lifestyle and Habits Questionnaire (Dinzeo, T.J., Thayasivam, U., Sledjeski, E.M., 2014) to determine what leads to high stress levels in our lives. In the questionnaire, it describes a range of life changing events ranked from highest to lowest levels of stress. This study that was created in 1965, their purpose was to build on the 43 original events by adding an additional 44 events to the list. The events were duplicated the number of events to minimize possible errors in the experiment with the overall goal to see how a group of people could relate to similar life changing events. High Levels of stress have a direct correlation with unhealthy behaviours affecting how our bodies work and function. When stress is presented to people, they begin to engage in unhealthy behaviours and activities, which lead to habits that is found to decrease in overall health. Stress within College students is examined quite extensively to see what causes them stress, and what kind of health issues is brought upon them. This would require a low power device implementing a hardware efп¬Ѓcient EEG processing algorithm. The Cross frequency coupling (CFC) algorithm is one of the most promising EEG signal processing methods [135 137]. CFC, which highlights the correlation between the high frequency amplitude and the low frequency phase of EEG signals, is an attractive means of studying cognitive brain tasks [138] and disorders such as epilepsy [136] and schizophrenia [137]. Several metrics have been developed to measure this coupling, including the modulation index [136] and the phase locking value (PLV) [135]. However, like other EEG processing algorithms, CFC involves a large number of MAC operations. If it is implemented in an ASIC using conventional circuits, it consumes too much circuit area and power, increasing the cost of the device and reducing its battery lifetime. Based on our preliminary results, we propose to use Delta Sigma based linear processing circuits for CFC based EEG processors. • 40. The Creation, Creation And Creation In The Hebrew Bible Throughout the history of mankind, the most common and unanswered question has been the origin or creation of the universe. Whether it is the creation of plants or the cosmos, origin stories and theories have been concepts at the forefront of human curiosity. In the Hebrew Bible, the origin of mankind and the universeis not told in one story, but in two contrasting tales. Along with these two contradicting stories come different purposes and lessons given to the reader. Both stories center around the Lord, creator of the universe, but tell of two conflicting beginnings for the universe. The two stories are meant to give the reader a sense of welcoming and amazement in the Lord, and also to provide a sense of reason to humanity and its place on earth. These stories are set in a specific order to amplify their lessons and compliment each other with their contrasting details. The two creation stories can be found in Genesis. The first story involves the Lord as the protagonist, and the creator of all things good. First, light was created, followed by the universe, the earth, the plants, the animals, and concludes with the creation of humans. In this first story, it takes the Lord six days to create the entire universe, including its inhabitants. On the seventh day He (the Lord) rests (Gen 2:2 NIV). Today the seventh day is known as the Sabbath, or Sunday. This story is poetic, and can be seen as an entrance hymn into the Hebrew Bible. It does not go into detail as to how all things were made, but it covers the greatness in accomplishing everything in such a short amount of time. The Lord created everything and He thought it was good, giving the reader a joyous story to begin his or her journey into the Hebrew Bible (The Two Creation Stories). The first story is not meant to teach a lesson, but to give beauty to the world around the reader. The lesson provides an understanding of a seven day week, why many did not work on Sunday, and where the universe began. The first creation story is used to put the reader in amazement of the Lord. The reader is given an explanation as to the most common things in life, and is able to understand the origin of everything he or she can see. The Lord can create the universe in ... • 42. How Exercise And Different Body Positions Essay Purpose The purpose of this experiment was to become familiar with the electrocardiograph to help us determine the heart electrical activity. As well as, to observe how exercise and different body positions(conditions) can affect the activity of the heart. Introduction Trained professionals can look at the EKG tracing and determine if the heart is normal or if the heart is abnormal. An ECG records the electrical activity of the heart. The heart produces tiny electrical impulses which spread through the heart muscle to make the heart contract (Kenny, 2015). There are two different types of cells. Autorhythmic (electrical) cell begins electrical activity and triggers contractile fiber, and contractile (myocardial) generates force to pump blood. With each heartbeat the cardiac system starts with the pacemaker (called the SA node) that conducts electricity. The electrical current travels from the SA node and signals the atria to contract. Then into the Antrioventucular node, which signals the ventricles. Eventually, into a bundle of his, left and right bundle branches, and lastly Purkinje fibers. Purkinje fibers then stimulate the contractile fibers. In addition, the EKG (electrocardiogram) illustrates a series of waves and flat lines (isoelectric) usually seen on computer monitors. Waves represent electrical activity through the heart and the physical events that take place in the heart, systole (contraction occurs and blood pumps into the arteries) and diastole (blood ... • 43. The Field Of American Studies In this essay, I will examine the field of American Studies and attempt to explain its ever changing definition. I will take the reader through the origins of American Studies and describe the events that led to changes in the discipline. The scholars in American Studies are constantly seeking to understand the practices by individuals and groups and their history of origin. Scholars struggle to understand how values and beliefs shape social and political realities within the U.S. and other countries. American Studies is an interdisciplinary study that explores cultures of the United States as well as their transnational exchanges and impact. In the words of Staurt Hall, he finds in American culture and in America s capacity to live with difference the best illustration of a continuous dialect between the local and the global, between the insular and the transnational. He defines culture as an embodiment of the best that has been thought and said in a society. It is the sum of the great ideas as represented in the classic works of painting, music, and philosophy that represent culture. (Hall, 9) Hall also has observed U.S. dominance in communication and described America as the common factor of globalization. The field of American Studies began in what may be called a single beginning with multiple origins. The beginning of the American Studies Association in late 1951 and early 1952 and the beginning of the journal, American Quarterly at the University of Minnesota in ... • 44. Warfare In Medieval Italy Incessant Warfare In the 14th century, the northern Italy was divided into many conflicting city states. The most powerful of these city states were Milan, Florence, Pisa, Siena, Genoa, Ferrara, Mantua, Verona, and Venice. The Medieval Italy was then divided by a long battle for supremacy between the Holy Roman Empire and the Papacy. The Italian Wars: 1494 1559 The Italian wars are a series of wars for control over Italythat were fought mostly by France and Spain. The violent wars began in 1494 with the invasion by Charles VIII, King of France which devastated Northern Italy and ended the independence of many city states. He conquered Naples but was soon drove out of the country Maximilian I of Spain and the pope of Rome. Much of the area outside of Venice was then devastated in 1499 by the Turkish Invasion. The peaceful state was first ruled under Habsburg Spain from 1559 to 1713 and then under Habsburg Austria from 1713 to 1796.The Black Death also had a large impact on Italy during their early modern period including claiming 50,000 victims in Venice. In the 16th century the plague claimed about 14% of Italy s population. The Great Plague of Milan also killed about half of Naples inhabitants in 1656. The political situation in Italy in the 18th century was almost the same as it was in the 16th century. The only difference was that instead of Spain ruling, Austria was now the dominant power after the War of Spanish Succession. Another big difference was that the dukes of a mountainous region between Italy and France known as Savoy had become kings of Sardinia. This occurred by them increasing their Italian possessions. • 45. St Augustine Confessions Analysis In his Confessions, St. Augustine presented his life from his adolescence through his adulthood and conversion to Christianity. One of the most prominent themes throughout his narrative was the reaction of weeping in a situation of separation. Whether it was Monica grieving when her son left for Rome or Augustine lamenting the distance between himself and God, these scenes of weeping proved incredibly crucial to the presentation of his life story, acting as frames for specific points in his life. Through his placement and description of four specific scenes of weeping, Augustine created a pattern of mirrored events that marked the distinction between his life prior to and after his conversion. One of the first pressing occasions of a separation was the instance of Monica weeping when she discovered that Augustine had left Christianity behind to be a Manichee. He described that she wept for [him] before [God] more than mothers weep when lamenting their dead children, as she was overwhelmed with sorrow that her son was separating himself from God (Conf. 3.19). Even though Augustine himself could not see that he was straying from salvation, Monica perceived the death which held [him] and turned to God for guidance (Conf. 3.19). Through her prayers, she was granted a dream from God in which a man asked her why she was downcast and daily in flood of tears(Conf. 3.19). She replied that she mourned Augustine s separation from God, to which the man told her to have no ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Art of Love The Art of Love Framing for a Misogynist The poetry of Ovid exemplified in The Art of Love is one of the only examples of the contemporary social behavior exhibited during the time of Rome. Ovid writes about social activities, proper style, women, and how to obtain them. Through Ovid s perspective, there are three different ways to consider a woman. These three views include relating a woman to a game, a beautiful treasure, and as a means to assert social status. Comparatively, Andreas Capellanuswrites in a way that makes women seem respected, worthy and as something to a man would willingly devote his life to. Both men have a clear fascination with women and their relationship to men. However, their distinct writing styles cause ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The view Ovid takes on women is not always clear. In some passages he has a violent perspective on women. Ovid writes about how he easily could have taken advantage of women, displaying a negative viewpoint of ownership towards females. Similarly he says never a virgin there was free from the lust of a hand , which shows that men desire women, and a virgin is held as a high prize, one that is worth committing the act of adultery for (Art 1. 89 126). On the other end, Capellanus views the trophy of virginity as futile and counters that while you know some other man is enjoying the embraces of your beloved, this will make you begin to value her solaces all the more (2.2, 3). Furthermore, he makes the argument against adultery, again opposing the views of Ovid. Capellanus explains his argument in detail by stating that a man in love is adorned with the virtue of chastity, because he who shines with the light of one love can hardly think of embracing another woman, even a beautiful one (1.4, 2). Contrary to many men who believe that a man must be strong and not show a woman his tenderness, Ovid shares his heart, saying, do not think it a shame to suffer her blows or her curses; do not think it a shame, stooping, to kiss her feet (Art 2. 522 553) . This is simply an outstanding statement, as it serves to show the true emotion and character of Ovid. This statement cannot be taken lightly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
