Part II Analysis
Part I Part II and Part III are both addressed to specific audiences. Part II is address to people
(friends) that are my age. However, part II is address to my parents. The main purpose of part II
is to tell my friends about the situation that I am in because of the trouble that I got in a month
ago when I went out with my friends. The main purpose of part III is to try to convince my
parents to allow me to get back home after 11pm. The audience and purpose of part II will affect
the content, tone and diction because I will not include any complicated information; my tone
will be simple so that my friends can understand the situation I am in; and my word choices may
include slangs since I will be writing to my friends. However, for part II, I will not use any
complicated information, but I will try to be as convincing as possible. The tone that I will use
will be impartial but strong in order to reach my parents understanding since their view points are
the opposite of mines. Lastly, the word choices will not include any slangs and will... Show more

Bilateral Vs. Unilateral Contracts
Esmeralda Aguayo Bus 18 Term Paper Bilateral vs. unilateral contracts As mentioned in The Legal
Environment of Business by Don Mayer, Daniel M. Warner, George J. Siedel, and Jethro K.
Lieberman, a contract can be defined as a legally binding agreement. The requirements of a contract
include an agreement meaning tan offer that has been accepted, consideration which is something
of value, legal purpose defined as the requirement that the consideration matter be legal, proper form

Ltd. Frederick Roe who is the defendant and the proprietor of The Carbolic Smoke Ball , placed
an advertisement and promised to pay $100 to anyone who used the Carbolic Smoke Ball for
two weeks. Mrs. Louise Carlill did both and sued to recover her $100, as was promised by
Frederick Roe. Carlill stated that some arguments on the advertisement were not accurately
reported. It was also seen that Carlill had not used the smoke ball correctly or even get influenza
which was also one of the requirements in order to receive the $100. At the court, Carbolic
Smoke Ball Co brought up many legal issues in regards to contract law. One of the claims was
that the advertisement was an open door to treat and that it was too popular in order for the
advertisement to be an offer. Furthermore, in a bilateral contract the acceptance of the offer needs
to be communicated and ad seen Carlill never did that. The court rejected most of these arguments
and continued that there was a contract. Moreover, communication is not necessary since this case
has to do with a unilateral contract. Acceptance and consideration as mentioned is something of

The Effects Of The Truman Doctrine
During a time of Soviet geopolitical expansion, the future of European nations was at stake. Truman
described the situation as autocratic regimes wreaking democratic nations, using aggression and
force. (Truman 344), meaning that military force was wreaking functioning democracies. Greece
and Turkey asked for economic and financial support from the United States, as Great Britain was
not able to support the two failing nations. The two countries would fall, if not for immediate
financial support from the United States. (Truman, 1) Despite the consequences of not interfering,
the United States continued to ignore the pleas from the nations and from advisors from around the
world. At this point, the world was in chaos following the defeat of... Show more content on

This radical departure of United States policies and the Truman administration fascination with
failing democratic countries led to the doctrine, which was considered to be a revolution in U.S.
foreign policy to make due with shifts of European power. Truman resilience to fight communism
did not only change the fate of Greece and Turkey but also the Koreans in the Korean War. Truman
s policy led to U.S. involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan in later years. Truman helped change
America s mindset on intervening on foreign affairs; if a democratic country stands at risk or the
human rights have been violated. The United States had always been against totalitarian threats to
the balance of power in Europe since 1917. The Truman Doctrine did not indicate any major
foreign policy shifts, but it challenged postwar behavior of the communist Soviet Union (Gaddis).
The idea of communism did not leave America until long after the speech was given, the election of
1952 bring up the idea that communists were inside the United States government. Dwight
Eisenhower did not associate himself with Roosevelt and Truman and their twenty years of treason
. Some even brought up the question of Truman s loyalty to the United States. The Truman Doctrine
was not Truman s first attempt of dissembling the Soviet Union for it showed in the Berlin Crisis.
Also, the Truman Doctrine had no links in the later proposed Marshall Plan. Andrei Vishinsky, a
trusted aid of Stalin, thought that the Truman Doctrine and the Marshall Plan were examples of
how the United States are ignoring the principles of the United Nations. Vishinsky believed that the
U.S. has threatened the idea of internal collaboration, and he believed that the United States will
bypass the United Nations to give the aid to Greece and

Government Control In The Hunger Games
Does the government the government seem to take control of to many aspects of our daily lives or
is pretty fair balanced? In the city of Panem the government runs things a lot differently than the
way we do today. Although the setting of the book The Hunger Games, is set somewhere in the
near future there are still many things that the governmentis doing that relates a lot to what we are
doing today. The Capitol, where the central government is located, regulates the whole country by
use of segregation, constant surveillance and constant control over their citizens. Around the world
today nothing can go said that isn t being recorded or videoed on some sort of electronic device,

Jabberjays were homing birds, exclusively male, that were released into regions where the
Capitol s enemies were known to be hiding. After the birds gathered words, they d fly back to
centers to be recorded (Collins 40). These seem similar to recording devices that can be planted
into houses or cars to translate what is being said and later given to people who feel the
information is important. With the jabberjays being so similar to equipment we have now days,
nothing can go unsaid that isn t going to be heard later. That being said, not only does the
Capitol survey all 12 districts through the use of recorders but they also have the means to do it
by the sky. It didn t make a sound, but they saw it. A net dropped down on the girl and carried her

Genre Of Music Essay
Our data showed some interesting trends for each genre of music. While many of our tests fell in
line with what we predicted with our hypothesis, we did have some outliers that we did not account
for.
As stated previously, we started by testing the resting heart rate of our subjects as our constant.
The overall average of our subjects heart rates was 69.92 BPM which falls in line with the
standard average. However, some subjects had a harder time relaxing completely while being
tested and therefore had a higher resting heart rate. Once the resting heart rate was established, we
were then able to compare the heart rates while the subjects were listening to music and see if we
could find a significant difference that supported our ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another explanation for these increases could be that several subjects started dancing in their seats
when they heard the song. The physical movement could have been a cause for the raise in the
heart rates. These increases also fit what we originally predicted in our original hypothesis.
The final genre that we tested was classical music and we used Adagio for Strings by Samuel
Barber. The average heart rate for this song was 70.12 BPM which is just a 0.20 difference from
the resting average. The tempo for this song was significantly less than all of the other genres at
just 77 BPM. Classical music has multiple studies done suggesting that it can improve newborn
babies IQ, helps while studying and helps you fall asleep. While this is not what we tested for,
the fact that classical music lowered or kept almost every subjects heart rate the same, backs up
some of these previous studies that have been performed. In our data, there was one person who
was completely different from the rest of the data. As stated previously, all of our subjects
tested, except for one, were 18 22 male and female college students. The one subject who did not
fit the mold of our other subjects was a male, college professor. This subject s response to all of
the music genres did not come close to any other person s response. With every single genre of
music that was played for this subject, their heart rate lowered significantly. There are a

The Health Belief Model Is Used For Health Promotion And...
The Health Belief Model is commonly used for health promotion and health education. Its
underlying concept is that health behavior is explained by perception of the disease and the
strategies available to lower its occurrence. There are four perceptions of the HBM, which are
perceived seriousness, perceived benefit, perceived susceptibility and perceived barriers. In
addition to that, more constructs are added to health belief model that includes motivating factor,
cues to action and self efficacy. Each of these constructs in combination or individually, could be
used to determine health behavior. The HBM also provides guidelines for the program
development allowing planners to address reasons for non compliance with recommended health
action. The health belief model is a process used to promote healthy behavior among individuals
who may be at risk of developing adverse health outcomes. A person must gauge their perceptions
of severity and susceptibility of developing a disease. Then it is essential to feel vulnerable by
these perceptions. Environmental factors can play a role as well as cues to action such as media,
and close friends. In order to determine that taking action will be meaningful, the benefits to change
must be weighed, against the barriers to change behavior (Green Murphy, 2014).

Essay On Texas Government
The Texas Government has long been considered a weak type government because it is not the
government which holds all of the power, it is the voter. This weak system of government can be
seen all the way up through Texas executive power. The Federal Government, under the authority of
the U.S. Constitution has a comparatively strong centralized form of government. The plural
executive in Texasand the Executive of the United Statesare vastly different in principle and policy.
This paper will explain what the plural executive is and how it works in Texas, compare it to the

Mel Gibson s Soliloquy Comparison
To be, or not to be is one of the greatest soliloquy William Shakespeare has ever wrote; and there s
many ways it was rehearsed. I watched 3 versions of this soliloquy, Kenneth Branagh s version,
Ethan Hawke s version and, Mel Gibson s version. They were all very different from each other and
unique in their own ways. I believe that Mel Gibson s performance of To be, or not to be was the
most effective and I will explain why.
Starting with Kenneth Branagh s version, his version was simple and straight to the point.
Branagh s version was less self reflective and more like he is talking to his hidden audience
(Claudius and Polonius). There wasn t much emotion to his soliloquy and it sounded much
rehearsed instead of laid back. But he does ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this version, they tried to make it a more medieval vibe. Gibson is dressed almost like a knight
Gibson is alone in a tomb reflecting on his thoughts. The tomb has low lighting, it s dark and he
is alone in that tomb. It was also very quiet. His voice echoes in the whole tomb so there was no
music needed because his voice is dramatic enough. In the tomb, there are a lot of bones and
crypt, and that can symbolize death later on in the play. In his soliloquy, it was at a flat (eye
level) angle with multiple camera shots. First, it was a long shot to show the audience where
Gibson was. Then, it was mostly close up shots but still shows Gibson pacing around the tomb.
That makes the audience know get a sense of his facial expressions. They also track him
sometimes when Gibson s walking around the tomb but usually lets the camera stay in one
place to show his whole body. While filming this, there was many short breaks to show the bones
and crypt as Gibson is talking to them they were cuts. Also at the end of his soliloquy, it went
faded into the next scene. This is my favorite out of all 3 because Gibson seems really consumed
with the soliloquy, you can see that because he pauses in between his lines and at the end, he puts
his end down in sorrow. I also like this version because they decided to film it in a tomb and
surround him by death, which means he is really is contemplating whether it s worth living or

Descartes: One of my greatest powers is the ability to think, considering that it is essentially the
only thing that I am unable to doubt.
Searle: I partly agree to your statement, but I observe that you are inclined to ignore the concept of

individuals in thinking that they make decisions for themselves, it is probable that someone else

The Pros And Cons Of Malware
What Is Malware? You sure have heard before terms such as virus, worm, Trojan or rootkit when
people discuss internet security. These names describe types of programs used by internet
criminals or hackers to hack and take over computers and mobile devices. All of these different
terms can be simply called malware. We can simply say that malware is a software, a computer
program used by hackers to perform malicious actions. In fact, the word malware is a
combination of two words malicious and software. The end goal of most hackers is to install a
malware on your device. And once it s installed, these hackers can potentially take control of that
device. Many people have this wrong idea of malware is being a problem only for Windows
computers. And the reality is, Windows is widely used, which makes it a big target, malware can
attack any computing device, including smartphones and tablets. In fact, the percentage of
malicious software action against mobile devices is steadily growing. (Zeltser, L. 2014) Malware
in these days is no longer created by just curious hobbyists or amateur hackers, but by experienced
internet criminals to help them achieve certain goals. These goals can include stealing... Show more

Men Working On The Bridge
Many of the men working on the bridge knew each from previous jobs around the city or
drinking at the Old Vic, the Blarney and the Commercial. Some played in the same soccer or
football league or stood next to each other at a Bulldogs games or at the cricket; there were blokes
who knew each other from school, from the neighbourhood.
Antonello hooked up almost immediately with Sam and Slav, he knew both of them from soccer
and Sam from a couple of previous jobs. They took to having all their breaks together. At
lunchtime, they sat at the same table in the lunchroom, at morning tea they took their cuppa out to
the same spot on the river and after work they settled on the same corner of the bar at the Vic.
They were the first real friends he d made in Australia. In school he had been the wog boy with

on the weekends, with some of his cousins who lived across the city in Richmond and
Collingwood but he d often felt lonely longing for friends his own age and missing his childhood
friends, the boys and girls he grew up with in Vizzini. Some of them stayed in the village, a

high enough to cover them. In addition to this, the use of tobaccodecrease workers productivity. For

moment, or even at your sleep! You may feel a belt is tightened around your head or can even be a
throbbing type of pain. Some of the headaches are periodic and a concomitant nausea may be felt.

When treating of headaches are part of discussion, the strategies divide up according to the
underlying cause, although most of them obviously includes painkillers.
The most common type of headache is called the tension headache. This type of headache is
mostly due to a stressful condition, including challenging tasks, anxiety and depression. Tension is
term here referred to a spasm of muscles starting from your shoulders and going up towards the
head including the scalp. Tension headaches are due to tight muscles in your shoulders, neck, scalp
and jaw. If you experience this type o headache, most likely it means that either you work to much,
don t sleep enough, don t drink enough water, use alcohol in a routine fashion, or don t just don t
sleep enough! Other common types of headaches include the publicly popular headache called
migraines and sinus headaches.
Although they all are uncomfortable situations, all of them do not require a physician s attention,
including the severe ones if they are in a routine fashion. Most people can cope with headaches or
find their own solutions in treating them, sometimes by making small lifestyle changes, or
learning a way to relax instead of just heading to the medicine cabinet for a pain killer. On the
other hand, sometimes headaches are actually warning signals for serious disorders, so when you
feel something that you have never experienced before it is better to consult your doctor. Doctor s

During these times of economic difficulty, the government has reduced the amount of funding
given to the Irish Sports Council. This has a huge consequence on the Irish Sports Council and
it restricts the development of the programmes they intend to start to increase participation in
sport. Lack of funding means that the Irish Sports Council can only use a limited amount of
resources and provide a limited amount of programmes to ensure that they remain within the
budget provided. Similarly, the lowered budget means that less people can be employed to grow
the programmes and raise awareness of the initiatives of the Irish Sports Council. The
implementation of the strategic plans the Irish Sports Council has set out will encounter many
difficulties. One difficulty they will encounter will be trying to get feedback from all of the

Southern Colonies Similarities
Comparison Essay U.S History G Block Valentina Stephens 29/9/17 North vs. South Colonies The
Northern and Southern colonies share many similarities when it comes to government leadership,
immigration, the treatment of women and the use of slavery. However there are also several
differences that influence the social structure of the respective territories. The Southern colonies
were considered Virginia, Maryland, Georgia North and South Carolina. Which had a very warm
climate which was excellent for farming. While the Northern states were Connecticut,
Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New York, Pennsylvania, Delaware and New Jersey. The political
and social movements of the South were controlled and lead majoritively by the farmers that grew
the cash crops and had the most money. While the North had a more structured government system,
much more influenced by England that followed set laws and agreements in comparison to the
South. Ben Franklin heavily influenced the people of the North by preaching about the
Enlightenment. Which was a movement that originated in Europe which spoke of obtaining truths
through experimentation and scientific reasoning. Since the Puritans were big supporters of public
education, making sure everyone would be able to read the bible, these new ideas were spread
through books and pamphlets. In comparison to the South which did not catch on to these
Enlightenment ideas as fast as the North did because they did not care much for education.

Decision to Move into an International Market
Terms and Definitions Upon a company making the decision to move into an international market
there are many economic terms, definitions and laws that are to be researched and understood.
While there are lots of terms and definitions, five of these terms include: multinational
corporations, economies of scale, imports and exports as part of GDP, foreign exchange market
and exchange rates and marginal rate of transformation. Each definition will be researched and
defined below and their importance to a company going global will be discussed.
Multinational Corporations
A multinational corporation or a MNC can be defined as a company operating in at least one
other country besides its home country. A MNC can be a closed system, in which it produces
within said country and sells to that country only. Most MNC s, though, are open systems in which
they produce in one country and sell to another. MNC s are driven by the law of supply and demand
. Supply and demand affect open systems differently as labor is in one country and the selling of
products in another and the cycle of products is on a much larger scale. A company looking to
become international, if incorporated, will become a multinational corporation.
II. Economies of Scale A. Factors that cause the cost of producing something to fall as the scale
of its output increases are known as economies of scale. An example is it might cost $5000 to
produce 200 copies of a book but only $6000 to produce

The Judicial Evolution Of Appointment Of Commissions
The system would lead to grave injustice particularly in case where the parties to the litigation
are not balanced in economic strength. The litigants belonging to un privileged segment of the
society are bound to be at a disadvantage as against an economically strong opponent under the
adversarial system because difficulty in securing a competent legal representation also due to
inability to produce relevant pieces of evidence before the courts. Hence, when approached the
courts for enforcement of their FRs, it became necessary to lay down new procedure, to make
this possible by the courts. New tools were forged for making the FRs meaningful to the large
segments of people . So in cases where poor litigants or citizens bona fide approached the courts,
they could not expect the formers to produce relevant material before them in support of their
case. The adoption of a passive approach and declining to intervene would render FRs a teasing
illusion for such litigants. The appropriate answer was the judicial evolution of appointment of
commissions for gathering facts and data with respect to a complaint of a violation of a FR made
on behalf of weaker segments. Consequent reports of commissioners appointed will furnish prima
facie evidence the relevant facts and information gathered by the commissioners and that is the case
why such commissioners would have to be responsible individuals; who enjoys the confidence of
the court for making an inquiry into the facts of the case

information in order to facilitate strategic decisions. The article, The Role of Finance in the

The first step of the strategic planning process is the vision statement, which is a broad statement
about the company s value, purposes, and future direction. The mission statement conveys eight key
components about the firm, including target customers and markets, products and services,
geographic domain, etc. The article states, The finance component is represented by the company s
commitment to survival, growth, and profitability (Kono Barnes). The long term financial goals
represent the firm s commitment to a strategy. The analysis is the third step and comprises of the
firm s business trends, external opportunities, internal resources, and core competencies. Porter s
five forces model, industry evolution model, value chain analysis, and a SWOT analysis can be
used within the analysis step. The next step is strategy formulation, which can be done using Porter
s generic strategies model to help the firm aim for one of the competitive advantages. Lastly, is the
strategic implementation and management step, where the balanced scorecard (BSC) has become
the most effective management instruments used to implement and monitor strategy execution and
align the strategy with expected performance. The BSC stresses the importance of establishing
financial goals for a firms employees, functional areas, and business units by translating the strategy
into objectives, operational actions, and financial goals by focusing on financial factors,

A Narrative Of Captivity And Restoration Of Mrs. Mary...
From the import and enslavement of Africans to the mass movement and genocide of a multitude
of Native peoples, the captivity and enslavement of these peoples are among the worst travesties in
the history of the United States of America. In Mary Rowlandson s A Narrative of Captivity and
Restoration of Mrs. Mary Rowlandson, she writes autobiographically about the Native American
raid on her village, the capture of herself and others including her children and other relatives,
the way she was treated by her captors, and her eventual release back into English custody. Next,

In Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, Douglass says that the slaves on Mr. Lloyd s
plantation were only allotted a bushel of corn meal and eight pounds of either pork or fish for
the entire year (1175). To start off, a starved, impoverished and enslaved people will never have
the strength to fight back. Also, even though physical abuse is enough to keep a population in
control, starvation is probably one the best controls. Without a proper diet, someone cannot
function at their fullest mental capacity nor can they be of any resistance to their masters. Most
importantly, if they are starved, they will not have the energy or capability of running away. In
comparison, Mary Rowlandson wrote in her biography A Narrative of the Captivity and Capture
of Mary Rowlandson that the Natives did not give her anything but a few drinks of cold water
for four nights (272). Except for a few exceptions during her captivity, Rowlandson claims that she
was practically starved for the entirety of her bondage save for a few handful of nuts and other
naturally occurring nourishment she could find. Again, we find that a starved person is easier to
control and less likely to run due to the physical weakness brought on by starvation. The state of
constant starvation is something that we as a people do not have the misfortune to understand.
However, their captors must be bone chillingly cruel to be able to starve their captives to the point
that they did and not have any

Mark Literary Style
All author s contain their own unique literary styles and the gospel authors are no exception. For
example, the greek used by Mark s author is unpolished which in turn leads to the authors of
Matthew and Luke refining the material they borrow from Mark. Mark s author also makes use of
catchwords to link stories in his gospel. However, Mark s most noticeable literary feature is also the
most infuriating and confusing for the orderly. While on the surface Peter s denial and Jesusact of
concealing his identity may appear arbitrary, Mark uses devices such as compound stories to reveal
the method behind the madness.

Jesus repeatedly commands the demons, his disciples, and the people he healed not to inform
anyone who he is. As readers of the twenty first century, Jesus instructions bewilder us, yet with
careful reasoning, some explanations for Jesus behavior come to mind. First, Jesus most likely
demanded the demons to not disclose his identity because demons are not credible sources and
their words should not be used as a foundation for faith for those who hear. Additionally, if
demons were the ones spreading the gospel truth that Jesus was the Son of God, the scribes
argument that Jesus was possessed by Beelzebul would have been enforced and Jesus ministry
would have suffered a devastating impact (Mark 3:22). Second, Jesus may have instructed his
disciples not to proclaim his identity because the people weren t ready to hear it. The disciples
were ready and able to understand the true implication of Jesus being the Messiah, but others were
not. Finally, Jesus advised those he healed not to announce who healed them because of the
multitude of people that would have inevitably swarmed him. Hordes of people make it harder to
teach and also attract the attention of some unwanted authorities

Citizen Journalism
Joan Cornell notes that the Internet democratizes the journalism which was in the hand of the few
people (2003). The Internet makes the public access to information; at the same time, it creates the
public to be journalists, opening blogs to put something new around on the Internet. Many news
websites like The Guardian, the Washington Post, CNN and MSNBC allows some personification.
The journalismnowadays is facing challenges not only from media and technology convergence,

No matter what the result is, Media Matters makes its effort to make the public access to more
information. The public get the rid of being directed or being controlled by traditional mainstream
media. The long established trust that audience give to the traditional media has been broken,
leading the audience to get the rid of being passively receivers (Bowman and Willis 2003).
Citizen journalism challenges the traditional statue of mainstream media, providing the public
alternative access to more information. This gives the public the choice to select news and to
become active news receivers.
Interactivity
The involvement of citizen journalism not only democratizes the media industry, but it serves as a
new added intermediary rather than ultimate authority to connect audience and information access
(Bowman and Willis 2003: 49). A new relationship between journalists and audience has been
created, with comment as a link following the article. For example, Deborah Hobson (2011) in
OMNI posted a piece of news article originated from the latest.com, UK citizen journalism site

Ethical Considerations In The Therapeutic Relationship
Ethical Considerations
The given case challenges the counselor to investigate the harm of infringement on trust in the

substantial damages in their personal and professional life, as well as the loss of the therapeutic

potentially discontinue the client spreading HIV, however, the clinician has no proof the partners

Mental Health Clinicians are aware that judicial systems examine professional codes of ethics to

The Interrelationship Between The Overcoat And Gogol
The interrelationship between The Overcoat, written by Nikolai Gogol, and Gogol, written by
Jhumpa Lahiri, may not be apparent at first, but with the help of My Two Lives, also written by
Jhumpa Lahiri, one can see that both The Overcoat and Gogol are connected by ties that hold
them together. Although Gogol and the speaker in My Two Lives share similar backgrounds and
can directly relate to each other, Akaky can also connect to Lahiri and Gogol because all they all
yearn for acceptance from those around them. One point of comparison is the practice of naming
connects Akaky, from The Overcoat, and Gogol together by having similar practices. Another
similarity between all three works is that each main character questions their identity, eventually
overcoming their struggle of being seen as different.
Both Akaky Akakiyevich, and Gogol Ganguli live in cultures where their nameshave substantial
meaning. Although the way that a person is named differs from culture to culture, the naming
process has similar characteristics. Readers can infer from both The Overcoat and Gogol that
names in Russian and Bengali have significant meaning and helps shape who the person is when
they grow older. However, one thing that varies greatly between these two cultures is when they are
named and how many names they have. In Russian culture, the name is picked after the baby is

The Women s Suffrage Movement Essay
Women s Suffrage Movement On the 19th of September, 1893, New Zealand women
experienced a monumental change in political status when the right to vote in parliamentary
elections was extended to them. Prior to this it was only men who were permitted to vote.
Intense protest against such came at full force in the late 19th century, from women who were
seeking political and legal reforms. Achieving franchise for women was the primary focus of the
first wave of feminism in New Zealand. This was of massive importance because it was the first
major step in achieving gender equality in New Zealand. The suffragists directly opposed and
managed to rid New Zealand of a manifestation of the prevalent gender based discrimination that
women have dealt with throughout history. The idea that women should be barred from
participating in the political sphere while men are able to is seriously misogynistic. When
voting, people elect representatives who will make laws and policies that will govern their lives;
it is the opportunity to put forward an opinion which could aid in solving the issues that an
individual cares about. To deny women this right is to say that women s beliefs and opinions have
basically no worth. Enfranchisement, (as a result of extensive campaigning by suffragists) was
recognition of the fact that women s ideas are just as valid as men s. This event is also significant
as gaining the vote was an instigator for more feminist development, like the second wave of
feminism

Greg Gage
Greg Gage explains that the brain is a fascinating organ. He adds that not much is known about
how the brain works because neuroscience is not being taught in schools. This is because the
equipment needed to study neuroscience is extremely complex and expensive that this research is
only completed at large institutions and major universities. In order to use these tools, one must
devote their life and study for about six years to gain access to these materials. His lab partner and
himself brought it upon themselves to create an affordable, simplified version of this equipment
that virtually anybody could use. They created a company called Backyard Brians that uses DIY
neuroscience equipment. He wanted to put his new technology to use, so... Show more content on

Schools all across the country claim the main reason for no doing so, as of now, is because they do
not have the proper technology to teach the topic effectively. Fortunately, the technology that Gage
has created is an affordable and efficient solution to the school s dilemma. By teaching basics of the
science, children may have an inclination to study neuroscience in later years, such as college. The
few amount of neuroscientists in the world now can be blamed on schools for not giving
baseline information to students, and therefore not allowing them to become interested
neuroscience. Traditionally, even if one expressed enthusiasm in the topic, it would take years
of schooling until one could even use the tools available for scientists. Twenty percent of the
world suffer from a neurological disorder, and no cure has been found for these diseases. This is
partly because of the fact that not many people study neuroscience and therefore is a lack of
information in the field. By using Gage s new technology in schools to help explain neuroscience,
the topic would become more popular, and because of this, society as a whole could grow to learn
more about the study of the brain, which would benefit everybody in the long

Abbey, Cowboys And Indians Part II, Abbey
Throughout the entirety of this memoir Abbey utilizes pieces of writing from a multitude of
genres to emphasize his argument. He effectively integrates quotes from poetry and drama into
his writing to make his memoir more operative. There are many examples of where Abbey
quotes other literary works and through this essay I will be focusing one specific example. In
the chapter Cowboys and Indians Part II, Abbey refers to William Blake s Evening Star. Thou
fair hair d angel of the evening, Now, while the sun rests on the mountains light, Thy bright torch
of love; Thy radiant crown Put on, and smile upon our evening bed! Smile on our loves... This
poem was part of Blake s first published work Poetical Sketches. The poems protest against war,...

Desert Solitaire is not a memoir that satisfies the literary taste of the general audience. It is in
fact, at times, a difficult novel to take in, due to the large number of contradictions and the
unconventional themes portrayed in the memoir. By adding works from different genres, he is
able to bring in different aspects that will appeal to a larger audience. Though he only uses
small sections of the different works, it allows a larger audience to comprehend the ideas that
Abbey so desperately desires to portray. In conclusion, Abbey has found a way to use the works
of others to support his views. He could ve just stated his ideas, but he takes the extra step to use
the work of other authors. Why? Personally I believe that the use of other literary works not only
strengthens his argument but also shows Abbey s literary skill. He is able to integrate seemingly
unrelated ideas into evidence for his claims. The use of the different genres allows for connections
between different pieces of works and allows the reader to think more deeply about to the memoir.

Pros And Cons Of Organ Transplantation
Proposals Assignment
Organ Transplantation is an innovative technology that replace the recipient s damaged or absent
organs by moving organs from one body to another. Transplantation can be performed within the
same person s body or between two subjects either from a living or cadaveric source. Scientists and
historians estimate that in the early 80 BC, Indian doctors began grafting skin to treat burns and
other wounds. In Early 1900s, Modern organs transplants began by European doctors that attempted
to save patients dying of renal failure, he transplanted kidneys from various animals, like monkeys,
goats and pigs. Unfortunately, none of the recipients lived for more than a few days. In 1912, the

The Kray Twins Life, Criminal Careers, And Final Downfall
The Kray Twins were two of London s most notorious and deadly gangsters during the 1960s. An
examination of the Kray twins lives, criminal careers, and final downfall all help one understand
how these two men dominated London s criminal world in the 1960s. Ronald and Reginald Kray
were born on October 24, 1933, to mother Violet and father Charles in Hoxton, East England. They
were born with an older brother named Charlie, and after the twins birth their mother was pregnant
with a little girl she named Viola, but unfortunately, Viola died shortly after birth ( Criminal

This is the longest the twins had been separated from each other. Reggie was back in his home in
Hoxton with his mother and grandfather, Jimmy Lee, while his poor brother Ronnie suffered
alone at the hospital. Due to this, Ronnie was constantly begging for his mother s attention. He
was lonely and demanded his mother s love at all times. She took him out of the hospital on her
own accord since she knew he would only get worse lying in the hospital all day. She was right
and Ronnie started slowly improving. Violet and Reggie also noted a change in Ronnie as the
days went by. No longer was he the playful, outgoing boy he used to be. He was more shy and
reserved, and much less talkative. Since Ronnie was so young when he had diphtheria, it could
have caused permanent impairment. Ronnie and Reggie started to act up more as they got older,
and Ronnie constantly tried to outdo his seemingly perfect brother (Pearson 25 26). Reggie was
charming and adored, and Ronnie didn t like his brother getting all the attention that Ronnie
wanted. If Reggie even got the slightest bit more food than Ronnie, he would be furious. They
started fighting with each other more often, and while their family tried to break up the fights,
they never were successful. Once they were done fighting, they would immediately go back to
being best friends, as if they didn t just have a fight. The twins soon moved back to Violets old
stomping grounds in Bethnal Green (Pearson 27 28). The

The Pregnancy Discrimination Act Summary
The Pregnancy Discrimination Act is designed to protect employees from any type of
discrimination which includes hiring, promotions, job responsibilities, layoffs, benefits, and any
other terms of employment. Employers are required by law to provide accommodations to women
experiencing a medical condition related to the pregnancythat stops them from performing their
usual job responsibilities. The Pregnancy DiscriminationAct amended Title VII of the Civil Rights
Act of 1964 that prohibits sex discrimination on the basis of pregnancy. This act also covers
childbirthand related medical conditions. By law, pregnancy is considered to be a temporary
disability and pregnant employees must be reasonably accommodated and treated by employers as

These guidelines were not laws and were aimed at aiding employers and employees in making
policies and identifying discrimination. These were highly indicative of how the EEOC was
inclined to rule on disputes brought to the agency. The EEOC Enforcement Guidance provides
clarification on important issues within the Pregnancy Discrimination Act. Specifically:
1. The Pregnancy Discrimination Act protects employees from discrimination based on current
pregnancy, past pregnancy, as well as potential or planned pregnancy. Employers cannot refuse to
hire, fire, or discriminate against employees who are currently pregnant or have the potential to be
pregnant. The PDA protects past pregnancies by providing protection to employees who may be
fired after pregnancy and the action was motivated by some factor that occurred when the employee
was pregnant and being accommodated by the employer. PDA still applies even though the
employee is not pregnant at the time of firing.
2. The EEOC states that an employer cannot force a pregnant employee to take leave nor can they
reassign the worker to a different position even though they feel it is in the best interest of the

We all use energy in multiple ways and for many different reasons. We use energy to heat and cool
our homes, to run our automobiles, to stay connected, and illuminate our lives. The average US

Santa Clause Importance
How Santa Claus is Important to American Culture
Santa Claus has developed an American culture that will never change during the holidays. In a
recent poll, it has been recorded that 86 percent of people believed in Santa as a child. Even though
there is a multiethnic status that comes with living in America, over 60 percent of children actually
consider Santa to be an important part of their celebration. It is evident that American culture is
built around this mythical being during the holiday season. His creation has a lot to do with why
Americans act the way they do when Christmas comes around. The creation of Santa Claus is
something that has been engraved into the minds of the majority in American culture. His mythical
presence encourages things like giving, niceness, being family oriented, gifts, shopping, but most of
all putting a smile on your kids face.
If there s one thing that this mythical being is known for, it s the importance he plays in American
culture is the amount of shopping it causes is us to do. Because Santa was someone that was
known for getting multiple kids to whoever was nice, people had no choice to play Santa s role
once they got over the fact that he s actually made up. Santa Claus has caused Americans to play
Santa for their households, ensuring that everyone gets the gifts that they want, and a little
something for themselves. This culture leads to the fact that the average American spends quite a
bit of money during the holidays. In 2015,

Environmental Activism in China
Organizations play an indispensable role in complementing current system. The increasing
awareness and heated discussions of environmental issues can be captured in the burgeoning civil
society and large numbers of non governmental organizations in China. However, the number of
operating NGOs in China is quite hard to track because a huge number of NGOs remain
unregistered as business entities or research institutions. State intends to control and monitor
registered NGOs, but recent studies have shown the registration of NGOs in the state actually
works in favor for both parties. For NGOs, they can gain legitimacy and sponsorship from the state.
For the state, having a dynamic civil society and active parties of NGOs can greatly improve a state
s international image, and show its compliance with international norms. In addition, NGOs can
help supplement governmentpolicies and stabilize society by taking social responsibilities.
Scholars also seek ways to explain why some social organizations stay unregistered. Some
organizations like religious or private organizations are deeply rooted in society before the
registration system. Their contribution in social society would remain the same whether registered
or not. Another argument about un registration is that, illegal NGOs continue to serve as a social
service provider and will not get punishment from local government as long as they do not
transform to a threat by criticizing the government. Another argument explains

Voting Rights Arguments
The key arguments for returning voting rights to felons and passing the Democracy Restoration Act
(DRA) include advancing democracy, protecting public safety, and eliminating the remnants of Jim
Crow. The DRA would return the right to vote to felons, who are out of jail and living in
communities throughout the United States. This would give 4.3 million more Americans the right to
vote. Supporters of the DRA argue that it advances democracyadding additional voters and
maintains the American principle of inclusion. They also argue that most European countries either
allow votingrights to prisoners or restore them once the prisoners are reincorporated into society.
Proponents of the DRA also contend that it further protects public safety by giving felons an
incentive to avoid committing future crimes. Bringing felons into the political fold rather than
excluding them as political outsiders helps to deter them from committing crimes. They also
argue that the DRA is a key part of the re incorporation process into society for felons and allows
for some hope that continuing to live a crime free life will be rewarded. The DRA also helps to
eliminate some disenfranchisement suffered by the African American community since the days of
slavery and Jim Crow. The fact that African Americans are seven times more likely to be in prison
than Whites and in three states (FL, KY, and VA) 20% of the African Americans have become
disenfranchised is a major problem. The important

contributed significantly to the outstanding legacy of the Vikings through his explorations. It is
through the discovery of Greenland and its later settlement that cast Erik the Red s legendary
adventures into folklore. These two events are how Erik the Red played his role in Viking history,
not through warfare, but through explorations. The adventures undertaken, and the feats achieved
by Erik the Red cement his place in Viking History.

The Liana White s Murder Case
On July 12, 2005, Liana White, wife and mother, disappeared in northern Edmonton. At 5:45 am
that morning a woman called to report an abandoned car, left open with personal effects,
including Mrs. White s licence, scattered around it (Edmonton Journal, 2007, para. 2, 4). The
next day her husband, Michael White, made a public plea for his wife s return as they continued
searching for her whereabouts (Harding Shaw, 2005, Timeline of Events, para. 3). By July 14,
Michael had become a suspect and the police were all too happy when he decided to lead a
search party of his own, in the hopes that, if Michael was in fact the reason for Mrs. White s
disappearance, he would lead them right to her (Edmonton Journal, 2007, A Turning Point., para.
14).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 2000 Michael had to payout $34,000 to the government for crashing a car, two years earlier,
on an Edmonton military base. Since then they have continued to have financial troubles with
$336,000 worth of outstanding debt for their two vehicles and housing mortgage (para. 10, 11).
This could have created some anger or frustration in Michael since society has an exceedingly
patriarchal mindset and he may have experienced feelings of failure, not living up to set gender
roles in providing for the family. If he believed in the cultural values of male dominance, than
having debt, and for so long could have been a catalyst. Slowly, knowing that he was not
performing well at providing for his family, Michael may have been becoming increasingly
dissatisfied until he finally decided to take action. It has been shown that men resort to violence
as a resource to re establish order in situations where it has been disrupted, in a way to avoid
endangering their male status (Brookman, 2005, p. 152). Similarly, it has been shown that
communities with male dominant norms have presented higher rates of spousal assault than areas
where men and woman are equal (Pozzulo, Bennell, Forth, 2015, p. 356). So Michael White s
actions could partially be explained by him trying to regain status in his house by showing control
over his wife when he could not control their debt. It renewed his sense of power when he was
losing it

Although the setting of the book The Hunger Games, is set somewhere in the near future there are still many things that the governmentis doing that relates a lot to what we are doing today. The Capitol, where the central government is located, regulates the whole country by use of segregation, constant surveillance and constant control over their citizens. While many of our tests fell in line with what we predicted with our hypothesis, we did have some outliers that we did not account for. As stated previously, we started by testing the resting heart rate of our subjects as our constant. The overall average of our subjects heart rates was 69.92 BPM which falls in line with the standard average. However, some subjects had a harder time relaxing completely while being tested and therefore had a higher resting heart rate. Once the resting heart rate was established, we were then able to compare the heart rates while the subjects were listening to music and see if we could find a significant difference that supported our ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another explanation for these increases could be that several subjects started dancing in their seats when they heard the song. The physical movement could have been a cause for the raise in the heart rates. These increases also fit what we originally predicted in our original hypothesis. The final genre that we tested was classical music and we used Adagio for Strings by Samuel Barber. The average heart rate for this song was 70.12 BPM which is just a 0.20 difference from the resting average. The tempo for this song was significantly less than all of the other genres at just 77 BPM. Classical music has multiple studies done suggesting that it can improve newborn babies IQ, helps while studying and helps you fall asleep. While this is not what we tested for, the fact that classical music lowered or kept almost every subjects heart rate the same, backs up some of these previous studies that have been performed. As stated previously, all of our subjects tested, except for one, were 18 22 male and female college students. The one subject who did not fit the mold of our other subjects was a male, college professor. This subject s response to all of the music genres did not come close to any other person s response. • 12. The Health Belief Model Is Used For Health Promotion And... The Health Belief Model is commonly used for health promotion and health education. Its underlying concept is that health behavior is explained by perception of the disease and the strategies available to lower its occurrence. There are four perceptions of the HBM, which are perceived seriousness, perceived benefit, perceived susceptibility and perceived barriers. In addition to that, more constructs are added to health belief model that includes motivating factor, cues to action and self efficacy. Each of these constructs in combination or individually, could be used to determine health behavior. The HBM also provides guidelines for the program development allowing planners to address reasons for non compliance with recommended health action. The health belief model is a process used to promote healthy behavior among individuals who may be at risk of developing adverse health outcomes. A person must gauge their perceptions of severity and susceptibility of developing a disease. Then it is essential to feel vulnerable by these perceptions. Environmental factors can play a role as well as cues to action such as media, and close friends. In order to determine that taking action will be meaningful, the benefits to change must be weighed, against the barriers to change behavior (Green Murphy, 2014). I watched 3 versions of this soliloquy, Kenneth Branagh s version, Ethan Hawke s version and, Mel Gibson s version. They were all very different from each other and unique in their own ways. I believe that Mel Gibson s performance of To be, or not to be was the most effective and I will explain why. Starting with Kenneth Branagh s version, his version was simple and straight to the point. Branagh s version was less self reflective and more like he is talking to his hidden audience (Claudius and Polonius). In the tomb, there are a lot of bones and crypt, and that can symbolize death later on in the play. In his soliloquy, it was at a flat (eye level) angle with multiple camera shots. First, it was a long shot to show the audience where Gibson was. Then, it was mostly close up shots but still shows Gibson pacing around the tomb. That makes the audience know get a sense of his facial expressions. They also track him sometimes when Gibson s walking around the tomb but usually lets the camera stay in one place to show his whole body. While filming this, there was many short breaks to show the bones and crypt as Gibson is talking to them they were cuts. Also at the end of his soliloquy, it went faded into the next scene. This is my favorite out of all 3 because Gibson seems really consumed with the soliloquy, you can see that because he pauses in between his lines and at the end, he puts his end down in sorrow. I also like this version because they decided to film it in a tomb and surround him by death, which means he is really is contemplating whether it s worth living or ... While there are lots of terms and definitions, five of these terms include: multinational corporations, economies of scale, imports and exports as part of GDP, foreign exchange market and exchange rates and marginal rate of transformation. Each definition will be researched and defined below and their importance to a company going global will be discussed. Multinational Corporations A multinational corporation or a MNC can be defined as a company operating in at least one other country besides its home country. A MNC can be a closed system, in which it produces within said country and sells to that country only. Most MNC s, though, are open systems in which they produce in one country and sell to another. MNC s are driven by the law of supply and demand . Supply and demand affect open systems differently as labor is in one country and the selling of products in another and the cycle of products is on a much larger scale. A company looking to become international, if incorporated, will become a multinational corporation. II. Economies of Scale A. Factors that cause the cost of producing something to fall as the scale of its output increases are known as economies of scale. An example is it might cost $5000 to produce 200 copies of a book but only $6000 to produce ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. The Judicial Evolution Of Appointment Of Commissions The system would lead to grave injustice particularly in case where the parties to the litigation are not balanced in economic strength. The litigants belonging to un privileged segment of the society are bound to be at a disadvantage as against an economically strong opponent under the adversarial system because difficulty in securing a competent legal representation also due to inability to produce relevant pieces of evidence before the courts. Hence, when approached the courts for enforcement of their FRs, it became necessary to lay down new procedure, to make this possible by the courts. New tools were forged for making the FRs meaningful to the large segments of people . So in cases where poor litigants or citizens bona fide approached the courts, they could not expect the formers to produce relevant material before them in support of their case. The adoption of a passive approach and declining to intervene would render FRs a teasing illusion for such litigants. The appropriate answer was the judicial evolution of appointment of commissions for gathering facts and data with respect to a complaint of a violation of a FR made on behalf of weaker segments. Consequent reports of commissioners appointed will furnish prima facie evidence the relevant facts and information gathered by the commissioners and that is the case why such commissioners would have to be responsible individuals; who enjoys the confidence of the court for making an inquiry into the facts of the case ... From the import and enslavement of Africans to the mass movement and genocide of a multitude of Native peoples, the captivity and enslavement of these peoples are among the worst travesties in the history of the United States of America. In Mary Rowlandson s A Narrative of Captivity and Restoration of Mrs. Mary Rowlandson, she writes autobiographically about the Native American raid on her village, the capture of herself and others including her children and other relatives, the way she was treated by her captors, and her eventual release back into English custody. In Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, Douglass says that the slaves on Mr. Lloyd s plantation were only allotted a bushel of corn meal and eight pounds of either pork or fish for the entire year (1175). To start off, a starved, impoverished and enslaved people will never have the strength to fight back. Also, even though physical abuse is enough to keep a population in control, starvation is probably one the best controls. Without a proper diet, someone cannot function at their fullest mental capacity nor can they be of any resistance to their masters. Most importantly, if they are starved, they will not have the energy or capability of running away. In comparison, Mary Rowlandson wrote in her biography A Narrative of the Captivity and Capture of Mary Rowlandson that the Natives did not give her anything but a few drinks of cold water for four nights (272). Except for a few exceptions during her captivity, Rowlandson claims that she was practically starved for the entirety of her bondage save for a few handful of nuts and other naturally occurring nourishment she could find. Again, we find that a starved person is easier to control and less likely to run due to the physical weakness brought on by starvation. The state of constant starvation is something that we as a people do not have the misfortune to understand. For example, the greek used by Mark s author is unpolished which in turn leads to the authors of Matthew and Luke refining the material they borrow from Mark. Mark s author also makes use of catchwords to link stories in his gospel. However, Mark s most noticeable literary feature is also the most infuriating and confusing for the orderly. While on the surface Peter s denial and Jesusact of concealing his identity may appear arbitrary, Mark uses devices such as compound stories to reveal the method behind the madness. Jesus repeatedly commands the demons, his disciples, and the people he healed not to inform anyone who he is. As readers of the twenty first century, Jesus instructions bewilder us, yet with careful reasoning, some explanations for Jesus behavior come to mind. First, Jesus most likely demanded the demons to not disclose his identity because demons are not credible sources and their words should not be used as a foundation for faith for those who hear. Additionally, if demons were the ones spreading the gospel truth that Jesus was the Son of God, the scribes argument that Jesus was possessed by Beelzebul would have been enforced and Jesus ministry would have suffered a devastating impact (Mark 3:22). Second, Jesus may have instructed his disciples not to proclaim his identity because the people weren t ready to hear it. The disciples were ready and able to understand the true implication of Jesus being the Messiah, but others were not. Finally, Jesus advised those he healed not to announce who healed them because of the multitude of people that would have inevitably swarmed him. Although Gogol and the speaker in My Two Lives share similar backgrounds and can directly relate to each other, Akaky can also connect to Lahiri and Gogol because all they all yearn for acceptance from those around them. One point of comparison is the practice of naming connects Akaky, from The Overcoat, and Gogol together by having similar practices. Another similarity between all three works is that each main character questions their identity, eventually overcoming their struggle of being seen as different. Both Akaky Akakiyevich, and Gogol Ganguli live in cultures where their nameshave substantial meaning. Although the way that a person is named differs from culture to culture, the naming process has similar characteristics. • 40. The Women s Suffrage Movement Essay Women s Suffrage Movement On the 19th of September, 1893, New Zealand women experienced a monumental change in political status when the right to vote in parliamentary elections was extended to them. Prior to this it was only men who were permitted to vote. Intense protest against such came at full force in the late 19th century, from women who were seeking political and legal reforms. Achieving franchise for women was the primary focus of the first wave of feminism in New Zealand. This was of massive importance because it was the first major step in achieving gender equality in New Zealand. The suffragists directly opposed and managed to rid New Zealand of a manifestation of the prevalent gender based discrimination that women have dealt with throughout history. The idea that women should be barred from participating in the political sphere while men are able to is seriously misogynistic. When voting, people elect representatives who will make laws and policies that will govern their lives; it is the opportunity to put forward an opinion which could aid in solving the issues that an individual cares about. To deny women this right is to say that women s beliefs and opinions have basically no worth. Enfranchisement, (as a result of extensive campaigning by suffragists) was recognition of the fact that women s ideas are just as valid as men s. This event is also significant as gaining the vote was an instigator for more feminist development, like the second wave of feminism ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These guidelines were not laws and were aimed at aiding employers and employees in making policies and identifying discrimination. These were highly indicative of how the EEOC was inclined to rule on disputes brought to the agency. The EEOC Enforcement Guidance provides clarification on important issues within the Pregnancy Discrimination Act. Specifically: 1. The Pregnancy Discrimination Act protects employees from discrimination based on current pregnancy, past pregnancy, as well as potential or planned pregnancy. Employers cannot refuse to hire, fire, or discriminate against employees who are currently pregnant or have the potential to be pregnant. The PDA protects past pregnancies by providing protection to employees who may be fired after pregnancy and the action was motivated by some factor that occurred when the employee was pregnant and being accommodated by the employer. PDA still applies even though the employee is not pregnant at the time of firing. 2. The EEOC states that an employer cannot force a pregnant employee to take leave nor can they reassign the worker to a different position even though they feel it is in the best interest of the ... • 49. Santa Clause Importance How Santa Claus is Important to American Culture Santa Claus has developed an American culture that will never change during the holidays. In a recent poll, it has been recorded that 86 percent of people believed in Santa as a child. Even though there is a multiethnic status that comes with living in America, over 60 percent of children actually consider Santa to be an important part of their celebration. It is evident that American culture is built around this mythical being during the holiday season. His creation has a lot to do with why Americans act the way they do when Christmas comes around. The creation of Santa Claus is something that has been engraved into the minds of the majority in American culture. His mythical presence encourages things like giving, niceness, being family oriented, gifts, shopping, but most of all putting a smile on your kids face. If there s one thing that this mythical being is known for, it s the importance he plays in American culture is the amount of shopping it causes is us to do. Because Santa was someone that was known for getting multiple kids to whoever was nice, people had no choice to play Santa s role once they got over the fact that he s actually made up. Santa Claus has caused Americans to play Santa for their households, ensuring that everyone gets the gifts that they want, and a little something for themselves. This culture leads to the fact that the average American spends quite a bit of money during the holidays. In 2015, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 50. Environmental Activism in China Organizations play an indispensable role in complementing current system. The increasing awareness and heated discussions of environmental issues can be captured in the burgeoning civil society and large numbers of non governmental organizations in China. However, the number of operating NGOs in China is quite hard to track because a huge number of NGOs remain unregistered as business entities or research institutions. State intends to control and monitor registered NGOs, but recent studies have shown the registration of NGOs in the state actually works in favor for both parties. For NGOs, they can gain legitimacy and sponsorship from the state. For the state, having a dynamic civil society and active parties of NGOs can greatly improve a state s international image, and show its compliance with international norms. In addition, NGOs can help supplement governmentpolicies and stabilize society by taking social responsibilities. Scholars also seek ways to explain why some social organizations stay unregistered. Some organizations like religious or private organizations are deeply rooted in society before the registration system. Their contribution in social society would remain the same whether registered or not. Another argument about un registration is that, illegal NGOs continue to serve as a social service provider and will not get punishment from local government as long as they do not transform to a threat by criticizing the government. Another argument explains ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. Voting Rights Arguments The key arguments for returning voting rights to felons and passing the Democracy Restoration Act (DRA) include advancing democracy, protecting public safety, and eliminating the remnants of Jim Crow. The DRA would return the right to vote to felons, who are out of jail and living in communities throughout the United States. This would give 4.3 million more Americans the right to vote. Supporters of the DRA argue that it advances democracyadding additional voters and maintains the American principle of inclusion. They also argue that most European countries either allow votingrights to prisoners or restore them once the prisoners are reincorporated into society. Proponents of the DRA also contend that it further protects public safety by giving felons an incentive to avoid committing future crimes. Bringing felons into the political fold rather than excluding them as political outsiders helps to deter them from committing crimes. They also argue that the DRA is a key part of the re incorporation process into society for felons and allows for some hope that continuing to live a crime free life will be rewarded. The DRA also helps to eliminate some disenfranchisement suffered by the African American community since the days of slavery and Jim Crow. The fact that African Americans are seven times more likely to be in prison than Whites and in three states (FL, KY, and VA) 20% of the African Americans have become disenfranchised is a major problem. • 53. The Liana White s Murder Case On July 12, 2005, Liana White, wife and mother, disappeared in northern Edmonton. At 5:45 am that morning a woman called to report an abandoned car, left open with personal effects, including Mrs. White s licence, scattered around it (Edmonton Journal, 2007, para. 2, 4). The next day her husband, Michael White, made a public plea for his wife s return as they continued searching for her whereabouts (Harding Shaw, 2005, Timeline of Events, para. 3). By July 14, Michael had become a suspect and the police were all too happy when he decided to lead a search party of his own, in the hopes that, if Michael was in fact the reason for Mrs. White s disappearance, he would lead them right to her (Edmonton Journal, 2007, A Turning Point., para. 14).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 2000 Michael had to payout $34,000 to the government for crashing a car, two years earlier, on an Edmonton military base. Since then they have continued to have financial troubles with $336,000 worth of outstanding debt for their two vehicles and housing mortgage (para. 10, 11). This could have created some anger or frustration in Michael since society has an exceedingly patriarchal mindset and he may have experienced feelings of failure, not living up to set gender roles in providing for the family. If he believed in the cultural values of male dominance, than having debt, and for so long could have been a catalyst. Slowly, knowing that he was not performing well at providing for his family, Michael may have been becoming increasingly dissatisfied until he finally decided to take action. It has been shown that men resort to violence as a resource to re establish order in situations where it has been disrupted, in a way to avoid endangering their male status (Brookman, 2005, p. 152). Similarly, it has been shown that communities with male dominant norms have presented higher rates of spousal assault than areas where men and woman are equal (Pozzulo, Bennell, Forth, 2015, p. 356). So Michael White s actions could partially be explained by him trying to regain status in his house by showing control over his wife when he could not control their debt. It renewed his sense of power when he was losing it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
