The Importance Of Bilingual Language
Have you ever wondered, why people split the language they speak linking different parts of their
lives? Language is a way a person communicates with other people. However, a multilingual, people
who speak multiple languages, have a different lifestyle from a monolingual, people who speak one
language. These three American authors help expand our understanding change in our languages
within a different part of our life. They grew up with immigrant families and are familiar with the
bilingual environment. A bright author is Amy Tan, who wrote Mother Tongue, she confronted
with different levels of English; the broken English of her mother tongue and her perfect English.
Another is Richard Rodriguez, who wrote a Public and Private language, reveals his childhood on
his two languages private language, Spanish, and his public language, English. Lastly, Gustavo
PГ©rez Firmat, who created a poem named Bilingual Blues, he clarifies that he doesn t have one
true language. By their experiences, it helps us understand how bilingual people adjust their
languages for different parts of their life. People adjust their languages to assimilate the
environment they are on.
People combine two languages to make a new language; thus, communicate with a group of people
that know those two languages like Spanglish. Having the knowledge of multiple languages makes
you feel that you don t fit with anyone else. As trying to blend in, you find yourself stuck when
trying to communicate with

Critical Analysis Of Death Of A Salesman
How can two people watch or read the same story and yet, interpret it completely differently?
Does it have to do with the author s intentions, or maybe it has to do with the viewers own
backgrounds and ideologies? Whatever the case may be, viewing one piece of work can lead to
a wide array of opinions and critiques. It is through the diversity of such lenses that Death of a
Salesman, by Arthur Miller has become one of the most well known plays in modern history.
There are many different ways in which a play can be criticized, however, criticisms from the
approaches of a Marxist and reader response will be utilized to further dissect Death of a Salesman.
Marxist criticism sees pieces of works as a struggle between different socioeconomic classes;
what better way to see Miller s play than for what it is at face value, the struggle of a middle class
man trying to achieve the American dream(1750). On the other hand, a reader response criticism
comes from either an objective or subjective view; in this case Death of a Salesman will be
viewed with a subjective lens based on Willy s deteriorating mental health (1746). Through a
Marxist s eyes, Death of a Salesman represents the struggle of middle class families in a
capitalistic world. From an early age, kids are taught to do well in school, be involved with sports
and activities, and to go on to college; all in hopes of achieving the American Dream. This dream of
obtaining success through hard work leads many into the

Sweetness and Power by Sidney Mintz
Sweetness and Power by Sidney Mintz
This part basically focuses on how Mintz tries to tie together the disparate geographies from
Northern Europe up to the Caribbean. It will be documented that Sweetness and Power by Sidney
Mintz actually discusses and illuminates the economic and social history revolving around sugar
consumption and production in Europe as well as its colonies, predominantly focusing on England.
Mintz examines the structure of power, which made it probable for sugar to actually turn out to be
the first luxury turned necessity that propelled a revolution within lifestyle and diet, principally
within the working class in the upsurge of capitalism and Industrial Revolution. Mintz further
argues that the contribution of sugar to several developed countries has been substantial, and that,
as a result of the history of sugar in England plus the restructuring within the working class,
individuals in United States and the United Kingdom have actually lost their autonomy towards
food . From the novel we will realize that Mintz essentially attempts to bring together the disparate
geographies basically from Northern Europe up to Caribbean. This has purely been due to the
production of sugar in Europe. It has resulted to trades between the neighboring countries which has
increased the interactions between the people through trade contracts. This evident as Mintz argues
that The development of plantation production beyond the Americas represented the

Aerosmith Influence On The Music World
Aerosmith helped many people especially after 9/11 with a concert for the benefit of victims

As you can see Esperanza now does not care what she wears.
Another example of showing how Esperanza changed is that could be described as self absorbed

Esperanza could also be described as not under standing.
An example of this is when the nuns come with cloths from the poor box.

Esperanza does not understand why the need cloths from the poor box. Esperanza s character

Different Stages Of Career And Life
Different Stages in Career and Life According to Capuzzi Stauffer (2012), the tenuous, but
nonetheless important, relationship between the different stages in career and life are understood
to be explored in clients in two different stages of change. The first stage is known as the
transtheoretical model of behavioral change. This model consists of six stages that clients
experience during the onset of their change (Capuzzi Stauffer, 2012). The stages of change are
(DiClemente, 2003): precontemplation, contemplation, preparation, action, maintenance, and
termination (p. 527). Depending on the issue the client is dealing with will determine what stage he
or she is at. For example, in the precontemplation stage, clients lack... Show more content on

Albatross Anchor Operational Changes
Introduction
Albatross Anchors is a small family owned business that began in 1976. The company has grown
exponentially over the years with more than one hundred and thirty employees. As the company
grew, their operational issues in the production and administrative area grew as well. The
organization has been faced with a lack of updated technology, out dated equipment, an inefficient
layout which violates the U.S. safety and environmental standards, and a disorganized
administration office. Therefore, production is not running smoothly,... Show more content on

In order to be competitive enough and be able to take advantage of sudden rises in demand,
Albatross Anchor needs to develop two manufacturing lines. This will ensure each anchor has its
own production line. The two lines will also ensure that there is no need for changeovers or
switch of equipments which will result in faster production. Also, this will meet sudden demand
changes and increase competitiveness. This long term pursuit will effectively reduce the
production time required and increase batch production of each anchor model. In order for the
company to take advantage of increases in demand and achieve high operational standards, the
building needs a complete renovation. For example, the offices and the plant must be separated
and more space given to production areas, since joined areas are cluttered and unsafe. They must
Adopt a new layout. A modern plant design and safer working environments will permit faster
production. Additionally, the enhancement of safety will reduce cases of potential work injuries,
which could be very costly indeed. (O Toole Mackenzie, 2011). (03) Storage: Back to speed in
production and an efficient operational system and sudden increase change in demand, production

is better off when individuals act on their own behalf and to their own best interests. I will leave

Assyrian Empire Essay
For a few centuries after the death of Shamshi Adad I, Assyrian cities were subjugated by a
succession of outsiders: Babylonians under Hammurabi, Hittites and Mitanni Hurrians. From 1791
to 1360 A.D. control over Assyria passed back and forth, although Assyria itself remained more or
less stable. After a power struggle between the Hittites and Mitanni, the Hittites successfully broke
the power of the Mitanni in the region. Assyriathen began to take control over territories that had
belonged to Mitanni. The Hittites battled with the Assyrians, but the Assyrian king Ashur Uballit
stamped out any remaining Mitanni or Hittite control over northern Mesopotamia.
The Middle Empire
King Ashur Uballit, who ruled from c. 1353 to 1318 B.C., succeeded in gathering all former
Mitanni regions under his control. He also battled the Hurrians, Hittites and the Kassite king of
Babylon. Ashur Uballit married his daughter to the Babylonian king, angering the Babylonian
people. They promptly slew the king and replaced him with a pretender to the throne. King Ashur
Uballit then invaded Babylon, killed the pretender and placed another Kassite royal on the throne.

The Second Set of Doors at the Baptistery
The maintenance and completion of the Baptistery of San Giovanni, one of the oldest and most
significant buildings in Florence, was entrusted to the Arte del Calimala Guild. This wool
merchants guild was the oldest of Florentine guilds and was extremely powerful and wealthy. This
wealth and power was due in large part to the fact that Florencewas the fabric capitol of Italy. The
Baptistery was dedicated to Florence s patron saint John the Baptist. Consequently, the first set of
doors created by Andrea Pisano in 1336 depicted scenes from the life of Saint John the Baptist and
was installed on the east or main entrance side. Plans for the other two sets of doors were delayed

Documents indicate that Ghiberti and his stepfather, Bartolo di Michele, signed the contract
together. The contract stated that Ghiberti must complete three panels a year. However after
several years only four panels were finished, this was due to the number of commissions Ghiberti
was working on at one time. Contracts required that the artist work on one piece of art at a time,
Ghiberti disregarded what the contract stated, working on numerous pieces at any given time. This
prompted the Calimala guild to enforce a new contract that caused Ghiberti to be the sole contractor
and held him to stricter terms. The Annunciation, Nativity, Adoration of the Magi, Baptism of
Christ, Agony in the Garden, were most likely cast before 1407. Between 1407 and 1413 the
following were completed, the Fathers of the Church and the Evangelists, Christ among the
Doctors, The Temptation of Christ in the Desert, The Crucifixion, The Last Supper. The panels that
were made after 1414 included, The Expulsion of the Money Changers from the Temple, The
Entry into Jerusalem, Christ before Pilate, and The Raising of Lazarus, and the heads of the
prophets. The dates these panels were completed are visible because of the changes in Ghiberti s
artistic style and technique. At each intersection of the doors Ghiberti a carved head of important

Islam And The Five Pillars Of Islam
Religious praying has been a staple in many religions to communicate to a higher being or for self
spiritual cleansing. Catholicism, for example, uses a rosary as an artifact to recite certain prayers,
and for the Jewish community they pray three times daily to observe Judaism. Islamic praying is a
different story. Muslims around the world perform the Five Pillars of Islamto appease their faith.
The Five Pillars of Islam have specific names for each pillar in chronological order; The Shahada,
Salah(also spelled Salat), Zakat, Saum, and Hajj The Salah, the second of the Five Pillars, is the
Islamic prayer performed five times a day at specific times. Performing the Salah is a way for
muslims to connect with Allah, who they regard as their one true God. The story on how Salah
came to be was from none other than the Holy Prophet Muhammadhimself in which he declared
that he had a vision, or a dream, that he rode a white animal, called the Buraq, from Mecca to
Jerusalem and from that location he ascended towards heaven itself. Once arrived he was
greeted by Moses who then took him to God s presence. From there Muhammad asked God if he
could shorten the daily number of prayers, which used to be fifty, to only five per day. Because of
this vision, the reason for reciting five prayers daily came to be. It was authenticated in the Qur an
as being a true circumstance, however it is not legitimately documented in the Qur an. Before
performing the Salah, a procedure is

Oroonoko Sparknotes

the oppressor in the congregation, to the monarch and his crown court, it appears that man have
a will to take over and dictate others. Oroonoko, by Aphra Behn, shows us that slavery is
immoral, shameful, disheartening, and worse than death. Liberty is an assured human right.
Oroonoko is a controlling story about the sufferings of a chivalrous, gracious prince named
Oroonoko. Through the novel, Oroonoko is presented to be a heroic prince and a friend to

skills, and perception and concepts. In the attention and memory subdomain, the child is
assessed in their ability to recognize and attend to various situations around them, and their
ability to remember certain information. In this domain, Aidan received a standard score of 3,
which falls into the delayed range, and is consistent to the developmental age of a one year, nine
month child. One of Aidan s strengths in this area was that he is showed his ability to pay
attention during a certain activity for up to three minutes. He was also able to find an object
that was under one of of the two cups being used. One thing Aidan is still working on is reciting
words from a movie or from a book when asked. One other activity that Aidan did not yet master
was pointing to the one hand that had a toy in it. In the second subdomain, reasoning and
academic skills, Aidan received a score of 8, which is in the average range. This is consistent to
the developmental age of 2 years and 6 months. One of Aidan s strengths in this area was his
ability to match similar colors together. Another one of his strengths was that he was able to stack

A Barbed Wire Piano Commemorates Korean Independence
A barbed wire piano commemorates Korean independence
The Korean Ministry of Unification has joined forces with Cheil Worldwide, the advertising arm of
Samsung, to unveil the strangely beautiful Piano of Unification, a project which commemorates
Korea s 70th anniversary of liberation from Japanese occupation, and aims to enhance interest in the
national reunification of South and North Korea. The piano in question uses barbed wire pulled
from the inter Korean border (a literal symbol of the nation s division) for its strings, and will be
exhibited and performed on in public at Seoul Museum of Art in central Seoul. All of the wires
used in the piano were taken from the border fence while some changes were made to one of the
pianos to allow it a greater range and sound accuracy.

Narrative Essay On The Eiffel Tower
I woke up thinking about the contest again, but I pushed it aside and got ready to go touring
again and today we were going to the Eiffel Tower. We headed out at 10:00am and drove there in
a cab, we arrived and the view from our room was no match to the real deal, it was outstanding
and a lot bigger than I imaged too. We got in line for tickets and it didn t take to long, so we
found our tour guide, so that she could take us up in it, I was nervous and excited at the same
time because I don t like heights, but I do love scenery. We went up in an elevator to the first
floor or the first platform and let me tell you,it was as beautiful as a thousand roses, literally,
there was thousands of roses everywhere, it was magnificent. After a while we got back on the
elevator to go to the top and on the way up the tour guide told us that it is about 108 floor tall,
twice the size of the one is Vegas. The elevator stopped and we stepped out. The breeze was
perfect and so was the weather, we walked out to a telescope and plopped in a quarter. All I could
say was wow, my mom and dad were almost speechless too. Once we got up there I realized i
wasn t afraid anymore, hopefully the contest was going to be the same way, I took it all in,
along with a thousand photos my mom took of us and everything else. We kept looking at
everything, it was like nothing I ve ever experienced before, it was perfect and so delicate, words
were not enough to explain it. The city was busy and all the cars and people looked like ants, the
park around us was perfect, the grass, the trees everything seemed so perfect around us, at least
until it started to pour rain. We ran into the elevator and luckily there was enough room for all of
us because there were people who didn t get in and i was sure they were drenched by now. After
some time we got to the bottom and ran to our cab as fast as cheetahs, but it didn t matter, we
were drenched as well. We got in our cab and drove to our hotel to change and dry off. We
wandered the hotel after we changed, to look at all the paintings and statues. It stopped raining after
a little while and we decided to go shopping around the boutiques, the look of the boutiques made

Research Paper On Robert Frost
Christian Marquardt
Mrs. Rhine
English 1 Honors
01 December 2017 Life:
In three words i can sum up everything I ve learned about life: It goes on ( Brainy ). Robert Frost
never fell short of timely and encouraging words to when faced with difficult times. Through his
writing, Frost demonstrates the way life works. Frost s legacy lives on through the mark he made
on literature and by giving a new perspective on life.
Robert Frost was born on March 26, 1874. Early in Robert Frost s life, he went through a series
of events that were a struggle. Frost s dad died when Robert was eleven from tuberculosis. After
this Frost moved to New Hampshire with his mother and sister to be closer to his grandparents.
Robert Frost attended Dartmouth University for several months, there he met the love of his
life, Elinor White. The Frost s had five children together, but two of them died in their
adolescence. It was during this time that Frost accumulated himself to rural life ( Robert Frost ).
Many of his writings were set in the countryside ( Robert Frost ). While Frost and his family
lived in the countryside, the only two of his poems that were published were The Tuft of
Flowers and ( Robert Frost ). No one would publish his poems, so he and his family moved to
England; where he met and built a relationship with Ezra Pound, who later helped promote and
publish his work. By 1920 Frost was the most celebrated poet in America (Poets 2017). His writing
includes traditional verse forms

Development of Solar Power Essay
The sun s light (and all light) contains energy. Usually, when light hits an object the energy turns
into heat, like the warmth you feel while sitting in the sun. But when light hits certain materials the
energy turns into an electrical current instead, which we can then harness for power (Alivisatos).
The method of transforming light into energy by human means is called PhotoVoltaics. Having this
general knowledge, humankind created different devices made of a certain kind of material which
could turn the solar powerinto energy; these devices are called PhotoVoltaics cells or solar cells.
With those tiny cells, humans have created (for a much efficient use of this power) a much bigger
device called solar panels. Solar panels are... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Climate change causes a disturbance in the seasons alternation, cause the ices to melt, and warms
the ocean; in other words, the use of fossil fuels is responsible of one of the worst disasters ever
faced by humankind for an extended period. Given the situation, humanity s last hope is to use
natural energy sources such as solar power. In fact, solar power, using energy from the sun, which
should die in nothing less than 5 billion of year (Fazekas), can be considered as an inexhaustible
energy source. In addition to its near inexhaustibility, the transformation of its light is non
pollutant since it contains neither carbon nor bad chemicals products for the environment. As if
that were not enough, using solar power would be more economic than using fossil fuels. As a
matter of fact, it would be a long term investment knowing that after installing the solar panels
once, they shall continue working and producing electricity for about 25years with a slight drop
in their output. Besides this, they would need less money than fossil fuels as they do not requires
much transformation before use. Considering all the facts stated above, the question in our mind
should be: if this energy source is as good as it is said, why is it not used worldwide? The answer
to this question is as simple as the following: the acquisition of this technology is too pricey. Thus,

The Color In The Great Gatsby
YELLOW Wilson s Garage: The color yellow is considered to be the unauthentic version of
gold. As previously stated, gold is a color of richness and value which is why we it is clearly
visible in the Gatsby household. Yellow on the other hand, is quite inferior when compared to the
standards of gold. In contrast to Jordan, the golden girl, her admirers are merely, two girls in twin
yellowdresses. (Fitzgerald.47) They are so unimportant that they aren t even called by their names.
They are simply labeled as, one of the girls in yellow, (Fitzgerald.47) even though one, [plays] the

While many would connect the color grey with George, the irrelevant individual who never lived
up to the standards of the wealthy, we can also make this connection with Gatsby, who happens
to be one of the wealthiest. Even Gatsby had, foul dust [floating] in the wake of his dreams,
(Fitzgerald.4) revealing that although he might seem content on the outside, he is melancholy
and gloomy on the inside. Nevertheless, George Wilson can be best identified as grey, boring
and insignificant. When Nick first encounters George, a white ashen dust veiled his dark suit
and his pale hair as it veiled everything in the vicinity, (Fitzgerald.29) showing just how distressed
George truly was. He was surrounded by wealthy people living in the luscious lands of West and
East Egg, yet he was stuck in the middle, in a wasteland covered in ash and soot known as The
Valley of Ashes. The Valley of Ashes represents the forgotten, the, men who move dimly and
[are] already crumbling through the powdery air. (Fitzgerald.26) Every single piece of grey, the
grey cars...the ash grey men...the grey land, (Fitzgerald.26) brought hopelessness and anguish
upon those who passed The Valley of Ashes. The Valley stands for pain and destruction as it was
the place of death of Myrtle as she, knelt in the road and mingled her thick, dark blood with the
dust. (Fitzgerald.147) There isn t a slim chance of happiness in The Valley of Ashes, and there

The Truth Of The Bible
Question 9 I believe the time isn t relevant as far as wear I will spend eternity, four there s two
ways of that can happen. First of all, nobody is immune to die at any point in time for went is
your time to go you have no control over it. Second of all, Jesus can come anytime. Therefore, if
either of these events happens, eternity awaits. Are used to think that the younger you are the least
you need to worry about these two events happening. On the contrary, the acknowledgment that
Jesus is the only way and the one hole redeemed us is now, not later, not when you feel like it, the
time is now.
Question 10 I believe that the main source of truth is the Bible. On the other hand, God is an infinite
God, and if he chooses any other means for you to find truth, you will find it, weather if it is
through dreams or through other Scriptures. However, God can choose to reveal himself outside of
Christianity. I have heard that throughout the Muslim faith several have come to know Jesus
through their own scripture, the Quran. In addition, others have begun to believe in Jesus through
dreams. Perhaps, God can choose any means to reveal himself. I do not know why there are so
many different religions; perhaps, this is what makes us different from each other. Not everybody
thinks the same way. I also believe that there is an accuser who hates humankind and doesn t want
humanity to see clear, that the more confused we are the better it is. Epistemology is the hypothesis

Fiscal Debt
Introduction
Currently, the US fiscal debt rests at nearly $14 trillion making it the world s largest debtor. In
fact, it is competing with the European Union, which is just a union of nearly 28 nations
(Blanchard et al, 2010). The financial experts have cited the reason being most countries trusting
the dollar for its store of value. As a result, more countries are saving their money in from of dollars
leading to more capital inflow. The capital inflow will create a burden to the US making the
interest rates to increase in the long run (Blanchard et al, 2010). More specifically, this paper looks
at the causes leading to the fiscal debt that includes increased expenditures, capital inflow,
borrowing from foreigners as well as negative net ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a result, fewer families will be ready to purchase a home thereby making most of them to stay
in rental places because of the high interest rates on mortgages. Most of them wishing to start a
business using loans will fail to do so because of the rising interest rates on the loans.
The piling US debt led to the government taking a huge sum of funds from the Social Security
Trust Fund to finance the deficit. However, the money was supposed to pay the Baby Boomers
during their retirement period. Unfortunately, the chances of repaying the loan are slim and as a
result the government will have to increase taxes to raise the amount that will pay the Baby
Boomers when they retire (Crotty, 2012).
As time progresses, the value of the dollar will decline. As a result, its value as a store of value
will also depreciate making more countries to resort to another currency that might have such a
value. Currently, the currency that has such a value is the Euro instead. More likely, most nations
will result in the world governments going for the Euro as a form of reserve value (Crotty, 2012).

Depiction Of Women s Magazines
In order to arrive at the conclusion from the present study as intended to find out the difference in
depiction of women in men s magazines from that of the women s magazines, a method of content
analysis has been adopted. This content analysis focused on the portrayals of women s body in
advertisement in six different magazines; three Men s Magazine(Playboy, Maxim and FHM) and
three Women s Magazine (Glamour, In Style and Cosmopolitan). The purpose of this study was to
determine the portrayal of women body in the advertisements of the male magazines differ from
those of the females. It was also intended toward finding that the women were portrayed in
different ways for different audiences. Portrayals of women in magazines (men s and women s)
may cultivate beliefs or expectations about physical appearance, sexuality, relationships or gender
roles. Previous research by Rechert and Carpenter (2004) on this topic suggested that there has
been an overall increase in sexual dress in portrayals of women and intimate contact between men
and women from 1983 to 2003 in ads of different types of magazines including those for men and
women. If the model in the ad was nude or almost nude, she would be considered sexually dressed.
Intimate contact was contact between a male and femalein an ad that was suggestive of sex or
sexual acts. For the sake of the current content analysis, the focus will be on the findings of the
increases in sexual dress. According to the researchers, sex in

Economic Changes In The United States
Does the economy changing effect the country? The economy changing has many differing factors
to determine how society is run. An economy change will greatly impact the people it ll also
impact the way they live. But you need change to grow and get better. Economic change also
impacts culture and politics, society and technology. Economic changes everything and everyone
for better or for worse.
A great example of this is back in the 1800 s with Boss Tweed and his rain of terror. He knew how
to manipulate people to do what he wanted. And in this time period there were many immigrants
coming into the united states from all over. They came from a different countries with different
governments so they didn t understand the government in the United States. They didn t understand
democracy, they didn t understand that they had the power, they didn t understand that they had
human rights. So Boss Tweed took advantage of this he promised them food and shelter for their

There was an endless flow of immigrants coming into america in the 1900 s and industries were
blooming everywhere and new jobs were opening up all over the place. These immigrants that

to new heights. But getting here wasn t easy at all, they were discriminated against because of the
way they looked. They didn t look like the native americans so they weren t american and shouldn t

The economy changing effects the people and how they live greatly. It could be for the better or
for worse but that depends on how you look at it. Because there was the industrial era which was
just terrible for the immigrants. But then you have the progressive era and that was all based on
making it better for everyone. So an economic change can be interpreted in many different

Drug delivery to nervous system is still a challenge to the scientists all over the world because
of the vasculature of central nervous system, blood brain barrier (BBB) which acts as the

strategies have been developed for delivering drugs to the CNS for various disorders, most of
them are invasive and lack target specificity. Several factors need to take under consideration while

better clinical management of Alzheimer s disease.
PURPOSE OF THE STUDY
Alzheimer s disease (AD) in a deadly chronic neurodegenerative disorders which gets worse with
time. Patients suffer from short term memory loss, disorientation, rapid mood swings, behavioral
problems and ultimately encounter death. This is mainly a genetic disorder; but there are several
hypothesis which are believed to cause this disease such as reduced synthesis of acetylcholine,
deposition of amyloid beta protein and abnormalities in tau protein. In this paper, a polymeric
nanoparticle based delivery system surface attached a dual functional antibody [anti amyloid beta

as the drug for preparing the immunonanoparticles, which is an oral centrally acting
acetylcholinesterase inhibitor. Tacrine was a useful drug in maintaining sufficient concentration of
acetylcholine (ACh) in AD patients but has been discontinued in 2013 due to several reports of
acute liver injury. The precise mechanism of how it causes liver injury is not known, but studies

The Industrial Revolution And Child Labor
The Industrial Revolution and Child Labor in America
Throughout the American Industrial Revolution, child labor in industries such as textiles,
agriculture, mining, manufacturing, laboring, street work, and domestic work was endemic in the
United States. Several factors, including mechanization, urbanization, industrialization, poverty,
labor shortages, and lack of regulation were the primary causes for this increase in child labor.
Children, as young as three years old, worked from sunrise to sunset in factories, mines, fields, and
mills where conditions were excruciating. The arduous work resulted in myriad deleterious effects,
namely, afflictive injuries, pitiful deaths, and bleak futures. In order to curtail the abusive
conditions, numerous people championed the rights of child laborers and ultimately achieved their
concordant goal of gaining federal regulation of minimum employment ages, permissible types of
jobs, and duration of work hours for youths.
During the Industrial Revolution, there was a major increase in child labor for several reasons.
However, the primary causes for this increase in child labor during the Industrial Revolution were
particularly unique: They weren t random, separate, and independent features that just happened to
be contemporaneous; they worked in tandem.
Both prior to and during the early stages of the Industrial Revolution, the overall standards of living
in the United States were squalid. The general populace particularly the working

Problems Caused By The Biophysical Environment
There are a lot of problems that occur in the biophysical environment. These problems differ
from pollution, to dumping in the rivers, lakes, and oceans, to destroying Mother Nature s finest
things to support our wants. These problems seem to always involve us in some type of way. We
as human beings have lived on this earth for thousands of years. To say that we haven t made
impact on this planet would be such an understatement. I think that we are one of the causes for
the environment being the way it is because after reading the several books in the class, every
problem that occurs in the book seem to always revolve around us. I m not here to blame humans
for the poor environment but we have to accept a fair cut of the blame because we tend to act
without thinking of the consequences. Our actions have caused many species to become extinct.
We destroy their homes and sources of food and the species slowly die out.
It seems to me that we are the problem and if we want to solve the problem, only we can be the
solution. It creates a very interesting topic to talk about. I ve seen so many television specials as to
how the earth has changed ever since the human race was born. I ve take small actions to help
because even the smallest things can contribute to the health of the planet. This is the only planet
we are able to live on, so therefore I feel that we have to limit a lot of things we have to do. This
topic on how humans hurt the environment interests me so much because I

Siopis In Face The Drink
Penny Siopis and Egon Schiele influenced the use of colour in my piece Face the Drink . Siopis
influenced it by her lithograph Model Prisoners , which showed me how expressive colour
really is. Egon Shciele influenced my work, by the way he uses distorted figures and faces to
express emotion, as well as his use of arbitrary colour. Both Schiele and Siopis has taught me
many different techniques that I am excited to use in the future. Penny Siopis influenced my
drawing style by the use of her emotive colours (predominately red) and her semi distorted faces,
from her Pinky Pinky series. In her lithograph Model Prisoners a lot of emotion is shown through
her use of red, to symbolising intense passion, aggression, and courage. My goal for my piece
Face the Drink would be, like Siopis, to show emotion through the colour and distortion of tone.
My concept behind Face the Drink is to express alcohol abuse and how it makes one feel, by
simply using colour to make viewers feel the dizzy effect alcohol gives people. My main aim is
to fill the wall with my distorted, colourful faces to make people feel over whelmed and
uncomfortable. Siopis taught me that a message can still be strong without the use of many
colours, but in my case I felt like my piece needed many colours to portray the message. My piece

Taking a Look at Chick-Fill-A
Which came first: the chicken sandwich or the egg sandwich? The world may never know.
However, the world does know the chicken sandwich easily trumps an embryonic hoagie. The
hard working Samuel Truett Cathy rose from the ashes of the Great Depression and established
his own ideas of modern chicken consumption. In 1946, Cathy constructed a small restaurant, the
Dwarf Grill, which was named after how miniscule the space was. Four tables and ten stools
later, Cathy desired an expansion and to revolutionize the world of accelerated dining. He
yearned for a poultry meal that was as elegant as a beef filet (hence the name Chick Fillet ,
however, neither time consuming to craft, nor expensive to purchase (Starrs). The owners of
Goode Brothers Poultry, a business in Atlanta, Jim and Hall Goode, were approached by an
airline to design a boneless, skinless chicken breast that would fit in the plastic trays they used to
serve meals on planes. After accomplishing such an innovating tax, the Goode s had remaining
pieces of chicken; that is where Samuel Truett Cathy enters in this poultry fairytale. Cathy s Dwarf
Grill neither excelled nor failed, though, it enabled Cathy to further his ambition, essentially a
springboard to success. However, the business itself lacked potential to grow. The Goode s
approached Cathy to develop some sort of innovative method with the left over chicken. Having

The Raft of the Medusa by Theodore Gericault
The Raft of the Medusa by Theodore Gericault is considered by many to be one of the greatest
paintings of Romantic Art. Here I will discuss Romantic Art, some history behind the painting, the
painting in general, and to prove why the first statement is true. If we are going to call this painting
Romantic Art one must first know what it actually is or have some sort of idea what is counted as
Romanticismor as something that Romantics would do. Romanticism celebrates the spontaneity
and the use of the imagination. Abandoning tradition constraints of the art world to explore new
and creative ways of expression. Possibly seen as intuitive individualism and primacy of feeling.

He interviewed the survivors, drew mutilated corpses in the Paris morgue, and had a model
created in his studio of the raft. The painting was 16 feet 1 inch by 23 feet 6 inches so it is huge
in size and the dramatic impact was just as amazing. This gave the people a record of an event
that happened in a time before photography. At first glance a viewer might just see people
huddled on a raft together, a couple waving down a ship, and trying to get someone off canvases
attention while others try to keep those who are weaker on the raft. But if they look closer they
might notice other things of interest that are commonly found in Romanticism or Romantic Art.
Gericault use of the double triangles in this image of the mast and rope help keep the main
focus on the people on the raft who are dying or dead. Suffering against heat, dehydration,
starvation, and forced to canalize each other to survive which is a true struggle against nature but
also against ones self. It would be a very horrific and emotional experience for anyone to have to
choose between eating another human being or dying of starvation. He focuses on the true
emotion, the disgusting horror of the event, and what had to be done or was done to survive. It

give it an autumn like color theme. This gives you a sense that they

Essay about Animal Testing Should Be Outlawed
According to Biology Online, animal experimentation is defined as the use of animals in
experiments and development projects usually to determine toxicity, dosing and efficacy of test
drugs before proceeding to human clinical trials. Animal experimentation has been going on since
ancient Greece when Aristotle and Hippocrates first made their model of the human body based on
what they had observed through animaldissection. Then, Romans used animals to do more
psychological tests on animals like pigs, monkeys and dogs. After that, the Renaissance period took
up physiological studies. Since then, the 20th century had a huge increase in animal testinguntil

Also, people in favor of animal testing believe animals help advance the field of genetic testing.
They believe animal experimentation helps scientists study the genes and DNA within humans.
However, there are some flaws in their thinking.
Many believe that live animals are needed for all medical testing, but that is not true. Animals
can be replaced in the lab by using software instead. Scientists have the technology today to
replace animals with different types of software and computer models. This would eliminate the
need for animals in the lab. The FDA, EPA, and National Institutes of Health has developed
systems and robots to completely replace the need for lab rats. This software is very accurate and
causes no distress to a living creature. Instead of having to pay for, feed, and house a living animal,
scientists have the opportunity to use computers instead. These robots could be in labs as soon as
next year (Goldman). There are several other ways an animal can be replaced in the laboratory as
well, such as: using mathematical data, using biopsies from humans instead of animal autopsies,
making human tissue cultures to test vaccines, and many more ( Research Alternatives ). Scientists
have a wide range of alternatives available to them. Therefore, animal experimentation for medical
advancement is not needed.
Quite often, animal experimentation leads to false results and causes harm to humans instead of
helping them. Although scientists

Physics Of A Snow Crystal

artists searching to be truthful in their work as a critique on society. The artist is constituted in,
but also a productive of, social space (Jones, Warr). Abramovic is changed by the space in the
gallery, there in her performance of Rhythm 0, she is a prop, without agency. The Authentic
Activist Artist s Body leads one to interpret Abramovic s work in a feminist light. Rhythm 0 was
performed in 1974 in the middle of the second wave of the feminist movement. Rhythm 0 has
Abramovic acting as an object in the performance space, it is almost like a literal way of showing
how women have been seen as objects throughout history, rather than as people. In addition the
Vietnam War was still raging on in Indochina. Horrific acts were being committed on both sides of
the conflict. Abramovic s Rhythm 0 acts like a mirror to society, seeing what people will do when
they believe there are no consequences, much like in times of

Relationship Between Finance And The Real Economy
INTRODUCTION
FINANCIALIZATION
There is no consensus on how best to define financialization. Although the concept emerged within
the Marxist tradition, there are conflicting views about the relationship between finance and the real
economy. Baran and Sweezy (1966) explain that advanced capitalist states face a surplus absorption
problem that inevitably leads to stagnation. To prevent the latter, unproductive consumption rises
and the remaining surplus enters the sphere of circulation, particularly, financial activities. This is a
stark contrast to Orthodox Marxists (cite), who explain the rise of finance as a consequence of the
falling rate of profit in the sphere of production. The essential contention is that poor profitability in

Epstein (2001) defines financialization as follows: the importance of financial markets, financial
motives, financial institutions and financial elites in the operation of the economy and its
governing institutions, both at the national and international level. Since financialization was
policy induced, a re regulation of the financial sector was necessary to curb its excesses and
increase employment and income (Crotty 2008, 2009; Crotty and Epstein 2008, 2009).
Arrighi (1994) understood financialization as the last stage of the USA s hegemonic power. As
advanced capitalist states de industrialize and lose their productive edge, the sphere of finance
expands. After the collapse of Fordism, the Regulation School contends that financial markets
became the new regime of regulation (Boyer 2000). Unlike Fordism, finance posed problems for
employment, income and growth. Related to this tradition is the new corporate governance view,
which argues that the main thrust of financialization is the preoccupation with shareholder value
(Stockhammer 2006, Froud et al 2002, Williams 2000, Lazonick and O Sullivan 2000). This
preoccupation leads to short termism through share buybacks that crowds out long term real
investments.
Lapavitsas (2013) contends that the processes of finance should be analysed in their own right,
rather than being treated as a surface phenomena sitting on top of real economic

Suzane Collins The Hunger Games
Few defining characteristics depict a book appropriate for middle schoolers to be taught in the
classroom setting. Literature presented to young, impressible, students must be relevant enough
to enrich and intrigue without boring them. Deciding whether children in middle school (7th and
8th grades) should be assigned to read an explicitly violent series such as Suzanne Collin s The
Hunger Games in class is a matter that has been debated numerous times since the first book
came out in 2008. The Hunger Games trilogy is a series where children are annually forced to
fight in a nationwide spectacle known as the Hunger Games. Many people believe that middle
schoolers should not be allowed to read this at all, much less made to read it in the... Show more

The often seen depictions of damsels in distress are part of an issue that is seen even in modern
literature and media. More often than not in society, men are the ones expected to rescue the
women, despite the fact that women can be just as heroic in not only literature, but in real life.
This often discourages girls from being too independent or bold, lest they be socially shunned
for being boyish. In her article, The Katniss Conundrum: Is She Okay for Kids? Mary Pols
confirms that Everdeen is an exemplary role model for young people. She argues, There is so
much to admire about Katniss Everdeen. She s strong, smart and willing to protect her family
(mother and little sister Prim) at any cost, even her own life (Pols). Throughout the books Katniss
maintains a headstrong mindset that defines her character, letting her overcome various obstacles.
Time reporter Eliana Dockterman emphasizes that people need to realize that the violent, albeit
powerful Hunger Games series can educate the young viewers rather than harm them. She makes
several good points that the main character, Katniss is a great role model to kids of both genders.
Dockterman also points out that women can indeed be strong and caring at the same time such as
Katniss. She doesn t need to be saved. Give her a bow and arrow, and she can take care of herself.
In fact, she tends to come to the rescue of men, not the other way around... She has more important
things to worry about: like surviving the

Critique Of Agora Critique
Agora Critique The 2009 feature film, Agora, which was directed by Alejandro AmenГЎbar,
depicts the religious, political, and intellectual events in the city of Alexandria during the life of
Hypatia, a female philosopher. Since this film s primary goal is the entertainment of the audience
rather than accurate historical instruction, there are some fictitious or unproven details in the film
that give an erroneous impression of history to the common viewer. The movie gives a fair
representation of the turmoil within both pagan and Christian groups, but there is a slight bias
towards the antagonization of Christians. One way this prejudice takes shape is the film s failure
to fairly represent the role of St. Cyril of Alexandriaamidst these chaotic times as it relates to his
views on women in education, his involvement in the death of Hypatia, and the expulsion of the
Jews.
One aspect in which St. Cyril was wrongfully depicted was his attitude toward the role of women,
especially regarding their position in the world of academia. In the movie, Cyril reads a passage
from I Timothy which states that women should be submissive to men. He then attempts to
pressure Orestes into publicly condemning Hypatia for her involvement in political and intellectual
affairs. Women were thought to be inferior to men back then, and some Christians during this time
period did denounce intellectualism, believing that only God s Word was necessary. St. Cyril,
however, did not appear to share

Qie, Ruifeng

PR in the Sports/ Entertainment/ Arts World Uncovered One of the roles of public relation is
helping a new organization, products or person building reputation or brands for them. There
are rising up thousands of companies in every year. Between March and December of 2009, the
most recent year for which data has been provided as of January 2015, the number of business
births ranged from 172,000 to 177,000, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (Sadeghi,
2008). Many public relation practitioners had already use public relation strategies to start a new
brand. Brands building strategies can be seen in the environment, art, and sports fields often. The
tools and techniques of public relation have long been an important part of earliest amusement
period in the USA. The master of using public relation strategies to build international brands was
P. T. Barnum. He lived from 1810 until 1891, a period of great importance in the evolution of
public relation. He used press agentry which was an early forerunner of modern public relations and
using it to create American heroes, promote circus acts, and settle the West (Yang, 2016). What
makes him famous and became one of public relation pioneers was a series plan to build the brand
General Tom Thumb . He turned a dwarf Charles Sherwood Stratton into an international celebrity.

The Effects Of Fast Drug On The Body From Methamphetamines
I chose Methamphetamines because of how fast the drug causes users to go downhill. When meth
became the drug of choice in Arizona, within a couple months entire neighborhoods were garbage
strewn, and the physical effects of the drug became apparent in anyone using. Friends disappeared
off the radar, to be seen a month later, unemployed, paranoid, scabbed and thin. I would like to learn
more about the history and long term effects on the body from methamphetamines. In 1887,
amphetamines were first produced in Germany and largely forgotten for forty years. In 1919,
methamphetamine, a synthetic stimulant was developed by Japanese pharmacologist, A. Ogata.
The drug helped with alertness and well being. In the 1930 s, methamphetamines were widely
used to treat bronchial diseases and narcolepsy. The American Medical Association approved a
tablet form in 1935 for ADHD. During WWII, German and Japanese pilots used
methamphetamines to stay awake during long flights, while the U.S and U.K used amphetamines.
After the war, Japan saw an epidemic of methamphetamine abuse. The drug was still being used
legally into the 1950 s and 1960 s by everyone from homemakers to truck drivers for alertness and
weight loss. In 1970 methamphetamines became regulated in the Controlled Substances Act and a
public education campaign was mounted to educate people about the dangers of the drug. Starting
in the 1980 s and into the 1990 s the drug became extremely popular in the southwest,

Analysis of Live Performances
This paper will concentrate on the analysis and the review of three major performances, Missa
Mirabilis, Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, Op.43 and Dona Nobis Pacem. These pieces of
performances are generally based on a religious setting of the several regions that the very
detailed and are represented in a very organized way. To begin, Missa Mirabilis is a piece that was
celebrated at the Westminster Cathedral for the feast of Corpus Christi on the 10th of June, 2007.
This gave a new setting of the Massby world renowned pianist, Stephen Hough. He named the
piece Missa Mirabilis that is translated to Miracle Massin English. While writing this script, he
was involved in a car crash while driving at about 80 mph, but the script and Hough survived the
crash. The work is bound by melodic lines with some choral structure that gives the piece a form
of inner strength plus some unique harmonic cushion. The piece was well organized to give it
some comfortable assurance. The speed that was employed in the piece was very moderate and
was well handled by the chorus of singers who sounded buoyant and fresh at all times, even to the
very last stage of the performance. The arranged movement that was used in the piece provided
the contrast between different levels of vocals in a very intimate manner and way. This was very
instrumental in providing the path that paved way for the difference between innocence and
experience by the two different groups of performers. It gave a clear

Summary Of The TV Show Stranger Things
This article discusses the TV show Stranger Things by intertwining the idea of childhood freedom
within it. The show portrays a bunch of kids biking around town unsupervised and solving
mysteries and saving the town. The author, Anna North, then uses this notion to discuss how
nowadays the idea of unstructured childhoodis almost nonexistent and that parents are involved in
everything due to cell phones, fear of childmolesters and a move towards more parental
involvement. North also gives two other examples, The Chronicles of Narnia and Muppet Babies ,
where the parents are absent and the kids got to run wild and involve themselves in mysterious/fun
activities. This given freedom gave the children a chance to explore their own... Show more content

It is like a walk down memory lane when the author describes how children were allowed to roam
around everywhere in the 1980 s. The diction used in this article clearly shows two opposing sides
a controlling side and a carefree side. The controlling side is brought into light when the author used
phrases like helicopter parent . And the carefree side is seen when North uses phrases such as
unsupervised , permissive and unstructured . This article is very well written as it is infused with
both fact and fictional details and evidence.
The content of this article was refreshing to read. I agree with the concept of it but disagree with
the details. In the the seventh paragraph North points out that unstructured childhood seems less
possible due to all the cell phones and the fear of child molesters. This was a very weak
argument and one that wasn t researched very well. Cell phones have nothing to do with more
structured parenting in fact they give children more freedom since parents can now reach their
children wherever they are and check in on them. The fear of child molesters is very
downplayed in this article. This article in a sense completely romanticized the 1980 s. The
number of child molestations that occurred during the 80 s is almost 15% higher than it does
now. This is most likely due to the fact that kids in the 80 s were allowed to go places without
parental supervision which usually led to dangerous circumstances. The point I m trying to make
is that parents became more involved in their children s daily activity not because they want to but
because they have to. The world is not a safe place for children to grow and experience on their

Of Mice and Men
Dreams vs. Reality
The world is a deadly, unforgiving and often ironic place where people become all consumed by
their surroundings. There are many occasions around the world in which people only care about
themselves; for example on Black Friday people get pushed, hurt or even trampled because
someone is trying to get the best deals before they are all gone. People have a tendency to lose
sight of their goals and dreams. Mentally, people struggle to maintain their sanity in this game of
life that has no set of rules. In the book Of Mice and Men, this story portrays the inequality
between people s dreams and what can actually be accomplished. John Steinbeck, the author Of
Mice and Men, utilizes his general themes of friendship and ... Show more content on

He is bullying Lennie because he jealous of the companionship between George and Lennie. He
tries to hurt Lennie with lies of George deserting him, trying to make him see what it feels like
to be so alone. Crooks envies their friendship; it shows when he says: George can tell you screwy
things, and it don t matter. It s just the talking. It s just bein with another guy (Steinbeck 67).
Crooks is lonely, and he is trying to make himself feel better by putting Lennie in the same
position as he is. Crooks American dream was not achieved nor moved back, he didn t really
have one. He just was living at the ranch and he would always get picked on because of his skin
color and his disability. He wanted racial equality, but that was so unlikely to happen, Crooks
refused to even hope for it. Because he had nothing to hope for, he is a grouchy, negative man with
nothing to live for.
In Of Mice and Men, John Steinbeck uses the themes of friendship and loneliness between
characters to illustrate the American Dream. The characters: George and Lennie, Candy and the
Old Dog, and Crooks are used to demonstrate how relationships work, and also the harsh
differences between dreams and reality. In the end George decided to end Lennie s life so that the
other workers would not torture him and then kill him later. Finally, reality was stronger than all of

American history from 1815 to 1840 Essay
Throughout American history, politics changed with the times, forming and growing as new
situations and environments took place. However, the most drastic differences occurred between
1815 and 1840. During this time, the North and South develop different economic systems, which
created political differences between the regions. Between 1815 and 1840, the number of eligible
voters drastically increased as politicians utilized a wider variety of campaigning methods in order
to appeal to as many voters as possible, all essentially caused by economic growth. Politicsgrow to
include universal white male suffrage, a strong national government, and nationalism versus
sectionalism. Economic Growth (American System, Industrial Revolution,... Show more content on

Political figures began appealing for popular support, using tactics like public rallies, picnics,
slanderous charges, and newspapers to capture attention. Document I is a campaign almanac that
promotes the 1840 candidacy of Harrison and Tyler. During this time period, it was common for
political candidates to use almanacs, tracts, buttons, effigies, and rallies to publicize and
romanticize their records. Political parties themselves began to change as people like Martin Van
Buren tried to go back to old political parties (Document C). He thought that the best political
combination would unite southern planters and plain Republicans of the North.
Van Buren
was part of a group of shrewd politicians called the Albany Regency With the help of their
newspaper, the Albany Argus, they controlled party nominating conventions and political
patronage (spoils system) while in office. The Albany Argus is a great example of how
newspapers came to be a big part of politics. Seen in Doc G, the number of different newspapers
in the United States increased to 1,200, with the number more than tripling between 1810 and
1835. Newspapers were widely distributed, and after innovations made newspapers affordable were
widely used as a campaign tactic.
There were many causes of the incredible political changes during 1815 1840 s, but the main cause
was economic growth. The War of 1812 caused men like Henry Clay and John Calhoun to find

Student Led Conferences
Student Led Conferences (SLC s); the controversial new strategy implemented at cross this year. It
is designed to be a three way conversation between a student, their guardian, and an advisor. The
purpose is to facilitate healthy conversations between the guardian and the student so that the
student can elaborate on their performance in a controlled setting. The advisor acts as a mediator
who translates the opposite views. For example, the advisor can help the parent understand that a
certain test can be redone and the grade will go up after that is taken. They can also help the
student understand that their grandma is only strict with grades so that their lives can be easier
with a good education. It is a chance for parents and students to get involved in the schooland helps
create a plan to improve the student s performance. The method seemed like it would work
beautifully, but the way it s being executed causes some concerns. First off, the SLC s are
conducted at the beginning of the marking period, which is too early to determine any issues a
student may have with a teacher. Most teachers have not given out a test yet and some haven t even
put grades in. So without any grades, how is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A lot of these slips are very lengthy and don t need to be written down. Four sheets are provided
during the flex periods: explanation on grades (good and bad), community service plans, after

these forms students ignore or are unable to answer making the forms overwhelming and
excessive. When I went to my SLC, I didn t talk about the forms I filled out at all and my
conference lasted for less than 5 minutes. A better method for this is to have the teacher ask the
question in front of the parents so that the students are encouraged to develop an achievable plan on

  • 2. The Importance Of Bilingual Language Have you ever wondered, why people split the language they speak linking different parts of their lives? Language is a way a person communicates with other people. However, a multilingual, people who speak multiple languages, have a different lifestyle from a monolingual, people who speak one language. These three American authors help expand our understanding change in our languages within a different part of our life. They grew up with immigrant families and are familiar with the bilingual environment. A bright author is Amy Tan, who wrote Mother Tongue, she confronted with different levels of English; the broken English of her mother tongue and her perfect English. Another is Richard Rodriguez, who wrote a Public and Private language, reveals his childhood on his two languages private language, Spanish, and his public language, English. Lastly, Gustavo PГ©rez Firmat, who created a poem named Bilingual Blues, he clarifies that he doesn t have one true language. By their experiences, it helps us understand how bilingual people adjust their languages for different parts of their life. People adjust their languages to assimilate the environment they are on. People combine two languages to make a new language; thus, communicate with a group of people that know those two languages like Spanglish. Having the knowledge of multiple languages makes you feel that you don t fit with anyone else. As trying to blend in, you find yourself stuck when trying to communicate with ... • 3. Critical Analysis Of Death Of A Salesman How can two people watch or read the same story and yet, interpret it completely differently? Does it have to do with the author s intentions, or maybe it has to do with the viewers own backgrounds and ideologies? Whatever the case may be, viewing one piece of work can lead to a wide array of opinions and critiques. It is through the diversity of such lenses that Death of a Salesman, by Arthur Miller has become one of the most well known plays in modern history. There are many different ways in which a play can be criticized, however, criticisms from the approaches of a Marxist and reader response will be utilized to further dissect Death of a Salesman. Marxist criticism sees pieces of works as a struggle between different socioeconomic classes; what better way to see Miller s play than for what it is at face value, the struggle of a middle class man trying to achieve the American dream(1750). On the other hand, a reader response criticism comes from either an objective or subjective view; in this case Death of a Salesman will be viewed with a subjective lens based on Willy s deteriorating mental health (1746). Through a Marxist s eyes, Death of a Salesman represents the struggle of middle class families in a capitalistic world. From an early age, kids are taught to do well in school, be involved with sports and activities, and to go on to college; all in hopes of achieving the American Dream. This dream of obtaining success through hard work leads many into the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Sweetness and Power by Sidney Mintz Sweetness and Power by Sidney Mintz This part basically focuses on how Mintz tries to tie together the disparate geographies from Northern Europe up to the Caribbean. It will be documented that Sweetness and Power by Sidney Mintz actually discusses and illuminates the economic and social history revolving around sugar consumption and production in Europe as well as its colonies, predominantly focusing on England. Mintz examines the structure of power, which made it probable for sugar to actually turn out to be the first luxury turned necessity that propelled a revolution within lifestyle and diet, principally within the working class in the upsurge of capitalism and Industrial Revolution. Mintz further argues that the contribution of sugar to several developed countries has been substantial, and that, as a result of the history of sugar in England plus the restructuring within the working class, individuals in United States and the United Kingdom have actually lost their autonomy towards food . From the novel we will realize that Mintz essentially attempts to bring together the disparate geographies basically from Northern Europe up to Caribbean. This has purely been due to the production of sugar in Europe. It has resulted to trades between the neighboring countries which has increased the interactions between the people through trade contracts. This evident as Mintz argues that The development of plantation production beyond the Americas represented the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

From 1791 to 1360 A.D. control over Assyria passed back and forth, although Assyria itself remained more or less stable. After a power struggle between the Hittites and Mitanni, the Hittites successfully broke the power of the Mitanni in the region. Assyriathen began to take control over territories that had belonged to Mitanni. The Hittites battled with the Assyrians, but the Assyrian king Ashur Uballit stamped out any remaining Mitanni or Hittite control over northern Mesopotamia. • 14. The Second Set of Doors at the Baptistery The maintenance and completion of the Baptistery of San Giovanni, one of the oldest and most significant buildings in Florence, was entrusted to the Arte del Calimala Guild. This wool merchants guild was the oldest of Florentine guilds and was extremely powerful and wealthy. This wealth and power was due in large part to the fact that Florencewas the fabric capitol of Italy. The Baptistery was dedicated to Florence s patron saint John the Baptist. Consequently, the first set of doors created by Andrea Pisano in 1336 depicted scenes from the life of Saint John the Baptist and was installed on the east or main entrance side. Documents indicate that Ghiberti and his stepfather, Bartolo di Michele, signed the contract together. The contract stated that Ghiberti must complete three panels a year. However after several years only four panels were finished, this was due to the number of commissions Ghiberti was working on at one time. Contracts required that the artist work on one piece of art at a time, Ghiberti disregarded what the contract stated, working on numerous pieces at any given time. This prompted the Calimala guild to enforce a new contract that caused Ghiberti to be the sole contractor and held him to stricter terms. The Annunciation, Nativity, Adoration of the Magi, Baptism of Christ, Agony in the Garden, were most likely cast before 1407. Between 1407 and 1413 the following were completed, the Fathers of the Church and the Evangelists, Christ among the Doctors, The Temptation of Christ in the Desert, The Crucifixion, The Last Supper. The panels that were made after 1414 included, The Expulsion of the Money Changers from the Temple, The Entry into Jerusalem, Christ before Pilate, and The Raising of Lazarus, and the heads of the prophets. • 15. Islam And The Five Pillars Of Islam Religious praying has been a staple in many religions to communicate to a higher being or for self spiritual cleansing. Catholicism, for example, uses a rosary as an artifact to recite certain prayers, and for the Jewish community they pray three times daily to observe Judaism. Islamic praying is a different story. Muslims around the world perform the Five Pillars of Islamto appease their faith. The Five Pillars of Islam have specific names for each pillar in chronological order; The Shahada, Salah(also spelled Salat), Zakat, Saum, and Hajj The Salah, the second of the Five Pillars, is the Islamic prayer performed five times a day at specific times. Performing the Salah is a way for muslims to connect with Allah, who they regard as their one true God. The story on how Salah came to be was from none other than the Holy Prophet Muhammadhimself in which he declared that he had a vision, or a dream, that he rode a white animal, called the Buraq, from Mecca to Jerusalem and from that location he ascended towards heaven itself. Once arrived he was greeted by Moses who then took him to God s presence. From there Muhammad asked God if he could shorten the daily number of prayers, which used to be fifty, to only five per day. Because of this vision, the reason for reciting five prayers daily came to be. It was authenticated in the Qur an as being a true circumstance, however it is not legitimately documented in the Qur an. Before performing the Salah, a procedure is ... We headed out at 10:00am and drove there in a cab, we arrived and the view from our room was no match to the real deal, it was outstanding and a lot bigger than I imaged too. We got in line for tickets and it didn t take to long, so we found our tour guide, so that she could take us up in it, I was nervous and excited at the same time because I don t like heights, but I do love scenery. We went up in an elevator to the first floor or the first platform and let me tell you,it was as beautiful as a thousand roses, literally, there was thousands of roses everywhere, it was magnificent. After a while we got back on the elevator to go to the top and on the way up the tour guide told us that it is about 108 floor tall, twice the size of the one is Vegas. The elevator stopped and we stepped out. The breeze was perfect and so was the weather, we walked out to a telescope and plopped in a quarter. All I could say was wow, my mom and dad were almost speechless too. Once we got up there I realized i wasn t afraid anymore, hopefully the contest was going to be the same way, I took it all in, along with a thousand photos my mom took of us and everything else. • 21. Development of Solar Power Essay The sun s light (and all light) contains energy. Usually, when light hits an object the energy turns into heat, like the warmth you feel while sitting in the sun. But when light hits certain materials the energy turns into an electrical current instead, which we can then harness for power (Alivisatos). The method of transforming light into energy by human means is called PhotoVoltaics. Having this general knowledge, humankind created different devices made of a certain kind of material which could turn the solar powerinto energy; these devices are called PhotoVoltaics cells or solar cells. With those tiny cells, humans have created (for a much efficient use of this power) a much bigger device called solar panels. Solar panels are... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Climate change causes a disturbance in the seasons alternation, cause the ices to melt, and warms the ocean; in other words, the use of fossil fuels is responsible of one of the worst disasters ever faced by humankind for an extended period. Given the situation, humanity s last hope is to use natural energy sources such as solar power. In fact, solar power, using energy from the sun, which should die in nothing less than 5 billion of year (Fazekas), can be considered as an inexhaustible energy source. In addition to its near inexhaustibility, the transformation of its light is non pollutant since it contains neither carbon nor bad chemicals products for the environment. As if that were not enough, using solar power would be more economic than using fossil fuels. As a matter of fact, it would be a long term investment knowing that after installing the solar panels once, they shall continue working and producing electricity for about 25years with a slight drop in their output. Besides this, they would need less money than fossil fuels as they do not requires much transformation before use. Considering all the facts stated above, the question in our mind should be: if this energy source is as good as it is said, why is it not used worldwide? The answer to this question is as simple as the following: the acquisition of this technology is too pricey. Thus, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 28. The Industrial Revolution And Child Labor The Industrial Revolution and Child Labor in America Throughout the American Industrial Revolution, child labor in industries such as textiles, agriculture, mining, manufacturing, laboring, street work, and domestic work was endemic in the United States. Several factors, including mechanization, urbanization, industrialization, poverty, labor shortages, and lack of regulation were the primary causes for this increase in child labor. Children, as young as three years old, worked from sunrise to sunset in factories, mines, fields, and mills where conditions were excruciating. The arduous work resulted in myriad deleterious effects, namely, afflictive injuries, pitiful deaths, and bleak futures. In order to curtail the abusive conditions, numerous people championed the rights of child laborers and ultimately achieved their concordant goal of gaining federal regulation of minimum employment ages, permissible types of jobs, and duration of work hours for youths. During the Industrial Revolution, there was a major increase in child labor for several reasons. However, the primary causes for this increase in child labor during the Industrial Revolution were particularly unique: They weren t random, separate, and independent features that just happened to be contemporaneous; they worked in tandem. These problems differ from pollution, to dumping in the rivers, lakes, and oceans, to destroying Mother Nature s finest things to support our wants. These problems seem to always involve us in some type of way. We as human beings have lived on this earth for thousands of years. To say that we haven t made impact on this planet would be such an understatement. I think that we are one of the causes for the environment being the way it is because after reading the several books in the class, every problem that occurs in the book seem to always revolve around us. I m not here to blame humans for the poor environment but we have to accept a fair cut of the blame because we tend to act without thinking of the consequences. Our actions have caused many species to become extinct. We destroy their homes and sources of food and the species slowly die out. It seems to me that we are the problem and if we want to solve the problem, only we can be the solution. It creates a very interesting topic to talk about. He yearned for a poultry meal that was as elegant as a beef filet (hence the name Chick Fillet , however, neither time consuming to craft, nor expensive to purchase (Starrs). The owners of Goode Brothers Poultry, a business in Atlanta, Jim and Hall Goode, were approached by an airline to design a boneless, skinless chicken breast that would fit in the plastic trays they used to serve meals on planes. After accomplishing such an innovating tax, the Goode s had remaining pieces of chicken; that is where Samuel Truett Cathy enters in this poultry fairytale. Cathy s Dwarf Grill neither excelled nor failed, though, it enabled Cathy to further his ambition, essentially a springboard to success. However, the business itself lacked potential to grow. The Goode s approached Cathy to develop some sort of innovative method with the left over chicken. Having previously toyed with idea of chicken already, Cathy undoubtedly took the challenge. The ... Here I will discuss Romantic Art, some history behind the painting, the painting in general, and to prove why the first statement is true. If we are going to call this painting Romantic Art one must first know what it actually is or have some sort of idea what is counted as Romanticismor as something that Romantics would do. Romanticism celebrates the spontaneity and the use of the imagination. Abandoning tradition constraints of the art world to explore new and creative ways of expression. The painting was 16 feet 1 inch by 23 feet 6 inches so it is huge in size and the dramatic impact was just as amazing. This gave the people a record of an event that happened in a time before photography. At first glance a viewer might just see people huddled on a raft together, a couple waving down a ship, and trying to get someone off canvases attention while others try to keep those who are weaker on the raft. But if they look closer they might notice other things of interest that are commonly found in Romanticism or Romantic Art. Gericault use of the double triangles in this image of the mast and rope help keep the main focus on the people on the raft who are dying or dead. Suffering against heat, dehydration, starvation, and forced to canalize each other to survive which is a true struggle against nature but also against ones self. It would be a very horrific and emotional experience for anyone to have to choose between eating another human being or dying of starvation. He focuses on the true emotion, the disgusting horror of the event, and what had to be done or was done to survive. Essay about Animal Testing Should Be Outlawed According to Biology Online, animal experimentation is defined as the use of animals in experiments and development projects usually to determine toxicity, dosing and efficacy of test drugs before proceeding to human clinical trials. Animal experimentation has been going on since ancient Greece when Aristotle and Hippocrates first made their model of the human body based on what they had observed through animaldissection. Then, Romans used animals to do more psychological tests on animals like pigs, monkeys and dogs. After that, the Renaissance period took up physiological studies. However, there are some flaws in their thinking. Many believe that live animals are needed for all medical testing, but that is not true. Animals can be replaced in the lab by using software instead. Scientists have the technology today to replace animals with different types of software and computer models. This would eliminate the need for animals in the lab. The FDA, EPA, and National Institutes of Health has developed systems and robots to completely replace the need for lab rats. This software is very accurate and causes no distress to a living creature. Instead of having to pay for, feed, and house a living animal, scientists have the opportunity to use computers instead. These robots could be in labs as soon as next year (Goldman). There are several other ways an animal can be replaced in the laboratory as well, such as: using mathematical data, using biopsies from humans instead of animal autopsies, making human tissue cultures to test vaccines, and many more ( Research Alternatives ). Scientists have a wide range of alternatives available to them. Therefore, animal experimentation for medical advancement is not needed. Although the concept emerged within the Marxist tradition, there are conflicting views about the relationship between finance and the real economy. Baran and Sweezy (1966) explain that advanced capitalist states face a surplus absorption problem that inevitably leads to stagnation. To prevent the latter, unproductive consumption rises and the remaining surplus enters the sphere of circulation, particularly, financial activities. This is a stark contrast to Orthodox Marxists (cite), who explain the rise of finance as a consequence of the falling rate of profit in the sphere of production. The essential contention is that poor profitability in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Epstein (2001) defines financialization as follows: the importance of financial markets, financial motives, financial institutions and financial elites in the operation of the economy and its governing institutions, both at the national and international level. Since financialization was policy induced, a re regulation of the financial sector was necessary to curb its excesses and increase employment and income (Crotty 2008, 2009; Crotty and Epstein 2008, 2009). Arrighi (1994) understood financialization as the last stage of the USA s hegemonic power. As advanced capitalist states de industrialize and lose their productive edge, the sphere of finance expands. After the collapse of Fordism, the Regulation School contends that financial markets became the new regime of regulation (Boyer 2000). Unlike Fordism, finance posed problems for employment, income and growth. Related to this tradition is the new corporate governance view, which argues that the main thrust of financialization is the preoccupation with shareholder value (Stockhammer 2006, Froud et al 2002, Williams 2000, Lazonick and O Sullivan 2000). This preoccupation leads to short termism through share buybacks that crowds out long term real investments. Critique Of Agora Critique Agora Critique The 2009 feature film, Agora, which was directed by Alejandro AmenГЎbar, depicts the religious, political, and intellectual events in the city of Alexandria during the life of Hypatia, a female philosopher. Since this film s primary goal is the entertainment of the audience rather than accurate historical instruction, there are some fictitious or unproven details in the film that give an erroneous impression of history to the common viewer. The movie gives a fair representation of the turmoil within both pagan and Christian groups, but there is a slight bias towards the antagonization of Christians. One way this prejudice takes shape is the film s failure to fairly represent the role of St. Cyril of Alexandriaamidst these chaotic times as it relates to his views on women in education, his involvement in the death of Hypatia, and the expulsion of the Jews. One aspect in which St. Cyril was wrongfully depicted was his attitude toward the role of women, especially regarding their position in the world of academia. In the movie, Cyril reads a passage from I Timothy which states that women should be submissive to men. He then attempts to pressure Orestes into publicly condemning Hypatia for her involvement in political and intellectual affairs. Women were thought to be inferior to men back then, and some Christians during this time period did denounce intellectualism, believing that only God s Word was necessary. In the the seventh paragraph North points out that unstructured childhood seems less possible due to all the cell phones and the fear of child molesters. Cell phones have nothing to do with more structured parenting in fact they give children more freedom since parents can now reach their children wherever they are and check in on them. The fear of child molesters is very downplayed in this article. This article in a sense completely romanticized the 1980 s. The number of child molestations that occurred during the 80 s is almost 15% higher than it does now. This is most likely due to the fact that kids in the 80 s were allowed to go places without parental supervision which usually led to dangerous circumstances.
