Roland Barthes is a French literary philosopher born in 1915. In one of his theories Death of the
author he argues that by giving a text an author is to impose a limit on that text . He claims that
having knowledge of the author s background and purpose for the text restricts the readers
imaginative license to build their own interpretations, and that the author and text are completely

In poetry, the author is a significant part of the poem as most poetry is a reflection of the poets
experiences through the use of metaphors and other poetic devices. To ignore this is to diffuse a
poem of its deeper meaning and connections.
We can use Full Moon and Little Frieda by Ted Hughes to argue against Barthes theory. Hughes
wrote this poem about his daughter Frieda s fascination with nature. The poem frames a specific

early 1900s, is most known for his theory on psychosocial development in humans. He was

Nazis, painting them in a deplorable connotation. Set in World War II, the text supports this

Social security was created in response to the Great Depression. The purpose of it is to protect
aged and disabled persons from illness expenses, to give children a chance to grow up healthy and
secure, keep families together, and to augment the material needs of individuals and families. The
Social Security Act was first passed in 1935 and later amended in 1956 to provide disability
benefits. Some programs included under the Social Security Act are: retirement insurance,

Why should tidal energy be a common renewable energy source in the future?
Tidal energy is a form of hydroelectricity that is provided from the rise and fall of tides. Due to the
Moon s gravitational force, bodies of water rise and fall, the force created can be turned into a form
of renewable energy. Tidal power was first introduced in the 19th century in U.S and Europe. In
1966, the Rance Tidal Power Station, was operated in France, being the first large scale tidal
system. Tidal energy is more predictable than solar panels and wind turbines. The sun isn t always
out to provide light and the wind depends on the weather. Tides are almost always there and the
ocean is more understood than the temperature or the sun. Tidal energy is much more reliable and
renewable than other sources such as fossil fuels which cause acid rain, and nuclear power and its
radiation. Since the ocean is much denser than air, tidal turbines generate more electricity and
therefore are more efficient compared to wind turbines. Hydro power in general is considered more
efficient and converts the most energy to electricity than other renewable energy sources.

an unimaginable amount of losses, deaths, and loneliness throughout his years. Throughout his life

Robert had suffered from emotional and physical abuse throughout his childhood, which had
