Essay about D-Day by Stephen E. Ambrose
The destroyers of the naval armada prepared for the Normandy landings played a pivotal role in
the battles on the beaches. Furthermore, without the support of the destroyers, specifically on
Omaha Beach, the infantry landings on D Day would have failed and the Allies would have been
defeated. D Day by Stephen E. Ambrose follows the landings on the Calvados coast of Normandy
from the pre planning stages all the way up through the invasion and through about D Day plus one
one day after the Normandy landings. The first two chapters deal with the combatants in a general
fashion before moving on to the location of the landings and why it was chosen. From there, Mr.
Ambrose moves into planning of the operation and the preparation for the... Show more content on

As the day progressed, this prospect seemed more and more likely until the naval commander
released the destroyers to provide support to the troops on the beaches and on top of the bluffs. This
support This support helped to both establish and maintain the American beach head at Omaha
Beach. The units that were supposed to come ashore before the first wave were special tanks
called DD, or Duplex Drive, tanks. These tanks, especially in the case of Omaha Beach, either
sank before or were destroyed as they came ashore. The loss of these tanks meant that the troops
landing on Omaha Beach would not have any close support from heavy weapons. ONce the
troops began to land, this became a serious problem which the destroyers of the Allied armada
solved for the troops on the beach. Destroyers would take turns cruising in as close as they could
and then would proceed to provide fire support for the besieged troops by blasting machine gun
and 88 mm gun emplacements with their five inch guns. This fire support was crucial to the
formation of a beachhead on Omaha Beach, in doing so, preventing the Allied invasion on Omaha
Beach from being thrown back and possibly ending the invasion of France in defeat. The other
great contribution of the destroyers to the Normandy landings is more intangible. The actions of the
destroyers as artillery served to

Wine Industry Case Study
Wine Case Study
Problem Statement
The problem that the company must address refers to determining if it is better to develop
distribution and marketing strategies controlled by the company, or to allow the distribution of the
products to be performed by the merchants. This is a difficult decision to make because of its
implications. The fact that the company s wine products are distributed by merchants has its
advantages. These merchants know the market very well, they know buyers, and they know how to
attract them. The networking of these merchants seems to be important in efficiently distributing
wine products. But the collaboration with such distributors also leads to increased costs in the case
of Chateau Margaux. In case the company decides to control its distribution chain, the costs can be
reduced. However, this can have certain disadvantages. Therefore, the company s managers must
determine what the company should do about its distribution process and marketing strategy.
Situation Analysis
The situation of Chateau Margaux can be attributed to the fact that the company has a reduced
marketing activity. The competitive business environment in the wine industry requires important
marketing activities that are intended to help improve the brand s position on the international
market. Therefore, the problems that the company s managers must address refer to developing the
marketing strategy in accordance with the characteristics and necessities of the wine market.

Questioning the Reason of Human Existence on Earth in the...
In the play Waiting For Godot, Beckett questions the purpose of human existence on Earth and
reflects uncertainties in life through a series of meaninglessness events and acts played by the
characters. The play contains only two acts and involves Pozzo and Lucky, who meet Vladimir and
Estragon while they are waiting for Godotin both acts. Instead of evolving in a narratively
structured order, the play unfolds in anti theatre fashion. Through Beckett s use of language, set,
and the diminishing spiral , he presents the play in a way that one is not sure of what, if anything,
happens or the significance of the characters. Thus, Beckett seems to want his audiences to think
and analyze the play in a way that they normally would not.
As we already know, Beckett s play is anti theatre, which means that his play does not follow the
classical theatre format that unfolds in order from exposition, complication, crisis, climax to
resolution. In fact, Beckett designs the play in a diminishing spiral fashion, which means that the
play has no structure. It does not have a beginning, an end or a resolution. Besides a sense of time,
which is demonstrated through day and night and the leaves on the trees in both acts, the two
aimless characters, Vladimir and Estragon spend their time waiting and not knowing for whom.
The play has no plot and the characters do not develop over time. For example, the characters
forget about act I when they are in act II. This shows that the plot is not

Building Appropriate Non Credit Programs Within Stetson...
Stetson University, the oldest private non profit higher education institution in the state, has begun
to investigate and recognize that a well educated workforce is a vital survival strategy for an
economy; leadership recognizes that a well educated person more actively embraces his or her role
as a contributing citizen. Stetson University s mission reads: ...to provide an excellent education in
a creative community where learning and values meet, and to foster in students the qualities of
mind and heart that will prepare them to reach their full potential as informed citizens of local
communities and the world (Stetson University, 2014). Building appropriate non credit programs
within Stetson University must take on an individualized approach, per demographic, per
philosophy, per content area, and per administrative mission. The scope of for credit and non credit
attainment is too large for the purpose of this essay; the focus will be on the current status of non
credit education at Stetson University, current fiscal concerns within the providing unit, and
potential remedies to overcome the dilemma of the non credit structure within the overall
department of continuing education. Problem Statement Non credit students pay no enrollment
fees and normally receive no college credit or official course grades (Barr McClellan, 2011).
Therefore, non credit programming must be designed to sustain current market trends in a highly
competitive market to substantiate its existence

On the Shoulder s of Giants: The Role of Connections in Developing Intelligence
Abstract
This paper provides motivation for making connections between unrelated events as a basis for
intelligence. The ability to apply this extended information as a problem solving technique
instantiates the true nature of intelligence. Therefore, it is obvious the field of artificial intelligence
should use the same approach. The way these connections are made and the occasional necessity for
their modification is discussed. Examples are given showing the use of connections between
linguistics and sociocultural systems studies and between engineering design and nature. Next,
several examples connecting artificial intelligence with computer ... Show more content on

Susan connected her falling during the biking accident to the doll falling. Sentient beings use these
connections as one method of developing intelligence. Therefore, it stands to reason artificial
intelligence researchers rely on these connections to forward study in the field. Connections have
been found to exist between linguistics and sociocultural systems studies and engineering and
nature. Also, connections exist between artificial intelligence and computer programming,
mathematics, astronomy, and engineering. Researchers in artificial intelligence themselves have
varied backgrounds. This, however, is not unique to the field. History shows a precedence for
connectionist activity in many of the great discoverers of the past. Therefore, researchers in
artificial intelligence are expected to continue the practice of drawing from other disciplines in their
quest to develop artificial intelligence.
Early Connections: The Role of Experience
Leonardo da Vinci said: all our knowledge finds its origins in our perceptions (Willis, p. 47). Just
like falling off a bike, experiences form one s perception of how the world functions into a term
called folk physics (Bechtel, p. 72). These workings can then be applied to new problems. Tackling
new problems using previous solutions or experiences and applying this information to unrelated
problems is known as analogy in problem solving (Andrew, p. 7). Sometimes these analogies are
incorrect, but

Identification Of Unknown Inorganic Ions
Qualitative Analysis
Identification of Unknown Inorganic Ions
Introduction:
Qualitative analysis helps us to find out the certain amount of specie in a sample. During
qualitative analysis we do not know the type of specie present in the sample. We identify the type
of specie in the sample by precipitating out the specie. The spot test method is used to observe the
results. Solubility rules are used to find out the type of ions coming out of solution. The law of
Conservation of Mass will help us to determine the true quantity of substances in the reaction.
We know that when we dissolve an ionic compound in water the water molecules surround the ionic
compound. Surrounding of molecules causes the dissociation. For some compounds the separation

During our experiment we have used spot tests. We have utilized a known reagent in our
experiment. We have added the known reagent in the solution and determined the formation of a
precipitate. The law of conservation of mass is utilized in balancing the chemical equations. For a
mixture we have performed the separation before the spot test to ensure that the presence of one
ion may not affect the other ion. For the separation of ions we have utilized a flow chart.
We have followed the flow chart procedure in the analysis of unknown 4, after a complete analysis
we have concluded that the unknown 4 contains the metal ions Nickel (Ni2+), silver (Ag+), and
Barium (Ba2+). There is no metal ion lead and iron.
The experiment is performed using a set of predefined rules and the results are recoreded. We have

Happiest Day Of My Life Narrative Essay
Boom, Boom, Boom...ping The uproar of violent knocks on my front door and my front door
unlocking permeated through the quiet studio apartment. My brain told me to run and hide, but my
body stood rooted to the ground.I was frozen...except the one heavy warm tear trickling down what
seemed like my lifeless face.
It was exactly a month after my 12th birthday when my parents moved me and my younger
siblings to VYV in Jersey City. Regardless of the fact that we were just staying there until my
parents found an actual house close enough to their office in New York and Princeton, I was quick
to make it my home. For my sibling and I the VYV was heaven. It had a huge playground, an
indoor pool and a game room. The VYV was also amazing for my parents because it was a gated
entry building so it was completely safe and the lock on the front door was opened by an
electronic pin code only my parents knew of. That s why after years of pleading with my parents
to let me babysit my siblings for small pocket money they finally let me.
I was ecstatic! I thought that was the happiest day of my life because I had always wanted to
babysit and the small pocket money would help me save up for anything my 6th grade heart
desired from my favorite store at the time, Bath Bodyworks.
It was the 3rd day on the job when everything went down...badly. It all started like any normal
day. My parents left for work at and the safety and wellbeing of my siblings were left in my hands.

Ethical Implications Of Slut Shaming
Taylor Durand Slut Shaming Introduction To the Term I mean did you see what Rachel wore
to the party last night? Total slut. Don t you worry about adding too many notches to your belt?
How many people have you slept with really? You re definitely getting into trashy territory
Rachel. Many times I have heard variations of these quotations being said throughout my life.
The real trash is policing someone s sexuality. Slut is a derogatory term used to degrade women
s sexuality. In this text I will outline the problems and the harm that slut shaming bestows on
women and their sexuality. Slut shaming is detrimental to women s psychological morale, her
political standings, and her role and power in society and relationships. In order to better
understand slut shaming, an explanation as to why it is a phenomenon in today s society needs
to be given. One of my biggest concerns is the fluid usage of the word slut or whore. This
phenomenon of slut shaming is mostly seen with teenagers and young adults and thus this is the
group I will be focusing on. Young women and men seem to define a slut differently. Women
define a slut as 1. A woman who is sexually active, 2. A woman who wears a lot of makeup, 3. A
woman who dresses suggestively, 4. A woman who, despite her unpopularity, tries to get the
attention of boys, 5. A woman who is assumed to be sexually advanced because her body is more
developed, 6. A woman who flirts with other girl s boyfriends or has a lot of guy friends.

The Children s dermatology life quality index (CDLQI) is used to measure the impact of
eczema on children s (five years or older) quality of life over the previous seven days (Ben
Gashir et al., 2004). There are two different versions of this, a pictorial cartoon or a word
document version. The total score is calculated by summing the scores from each question, with a
maximum score of 30 and minimum of 0 where a higher score indicates more impairment in quality
of life. There are six dimensions that it measures; symptoms and feelings, leisure, school or
holidays, personal relationships, treatment and sleep. This questionnaire is chosen to be used in this

School age children and adolescents in the control group should have a decrease in self esteem as
well as quality of life as result of going through puberty. However, because of this natural process,
the decline should not be significant. If the results from the factorial ANOVA are significant for
the eczema group, it should indicate a decline in quality of life as the eczema patient matures; this
trend should also be present for self esteem. As a result of this, severity should have a significant
increase. Proxy rating from caregivers in the eczema group should also show the same trends as
child rating. Control group proxy ratings should also show the same trends as child rating.
Hierarchical regression should reveal that quality of life is significant predictor of severity. When
self esteem is added in the second step, it should still be a significant relationship. Overall, if
results agree with the hypothesis it should show that as eczema patients matures, quality of life
will decrease, self esteem will also decrease which will increase the severity of the

Spanish Conquistadors
The Spanish conquistadors who vanquished Cuba in the 16th century are known for the suffering
they caused among conquered peoples. Yet, the same brute force that exploited native populations
is also responsible for Cuba s development into a flourishing colony. On October 28, 1492, Italian
explorer Christopher Columbus discovered Cubaon his first voyage to the New World. Impressed
with the beauty, natural resources, and prime location of the island, Columbus returned to Cuba on
his second voyage in 1494. Nineteen years later, Spanish conquistador Diego Velasquez conquered
the island under the command of Columbus son Diego Columbus. After Spainestablished political

Though the establishment of encomiendas abused natives and supported African slave trade, the
agricultural industry founded in Cuba by the Spanish became the colony s main source of income.
When the Spanish arrived in Cuba in the late fifteenth century, they discovered tobacco native to
the region and brought it back to Europe, where it was admired for its unique taste (Garcia).
Tobacco encomiendas were built across the island and the crop was shipped to Europe in
exchange for manufactured goods. Other cash crops including sugarcane, coffee, and animal hides
were also exported via Spanish ships and taken to European consumers (Woodward). By 1600,
Cuban tobacco had become renowned worldwide for its superior quality and cost nearly three times
the price of its competitors (NAter). Though the success of the encomienda system is controversial
due to its lack of morality, Cuba s economic development would not have been made possible
without them. The agricultural industries and business partners formed by Spanish colonists
enabled Cuba to rise as a powerful trade hub between Europe and the Americas. Prior to Spanish
conquest, Cuba had no connections to the outside world and natives survived as hunter gatherers (
The Colonial Years ). When they colonized the island, the Spanish built economic institutions that

The central role of enzymes is to function as biological catalysts. Since the fundamental tasks of a
protein is to act as an enzyme, catalysts increase the rate of the activation energy within a cell. Cell
contain thousands of different enzymes, and their activities determine what chemical reaction will
take place within the cell. The enzymeand the activation energy function as a process within the

productivity and speed of chemical reactions within our body, it s important to understand how they
catalyze and function.
There is a class of related enzymes known as Phenolases. These enzymes catalyze the oxidation of
compunds that have hydroxyl groupds attatched to a benzene ring, recongized as phenols. The

The Versailles treaty was the peace settlement between Germany and the Allied powers that
eventually ended world war one. Even Though it ended this war the treaty of Versailles was hated
by many American and Germany. Germany made many threats to the Allied powers. The passing
of the Treaty of Versailles resulted in unpopular backlash from both Germany and America.
France, Italy, Britain and the U.S. met at the Capitol to talk about the terms of peace for the post

to Chris truman, David Lloyd George had two view on how Germany should be treated. If
George showed any signs of weakness towards Germany he would have quickly been voted out

the versailles treaty. George was concerned about communism rising in Russia and had thoughts
that it might spread to western Europe. George felt that Germany was the only thing that could

Woodrow Wilson had been shocked by the devastation from the Great War. Wilson wanted to

Preparing An Expert When Making Our Next Investment Choice
Purpose: Introduction/background of problem
The purpose of this report is to help determine if it is better to consult an expert when
making our next investment choice. There are still three primary options we have to choose
from in order to make our decisions. The option we have are to invest in real estate, retail
franchise just for hats, or high yield municipal bonds. The decision was made to look at two
possible outcomes for each equation instead of three. The hope was that we will be able to help
simply the process by doing this action. The interests are whether the market will be Favorable
or Unfavorable, so we have collapsed the Medium and Low outcomes. With each of these
options there are different levels of risk that have to be considered in our decision making
process. Forecasts serve as decision support tools that allow leaders to plan for the future by
performing what if analyses to determine how changes in inputs affects outcomes (Nordmeyer,
2015). In this scenario we are trying to determine if it is cost effective to consult an expert for hi
forecasting service due to the fee he charges for his services. We are going to conduct further
analysis to determine the value of the information the expert will provide.

Zeus And Poseidon And Zeus
Poseidon and Zeus were enjoying the delicious smell of turkey and all the deliciousness of foods
all over the world on Mount Olympus with many other gods and goddesses. They were all having
fun and enjoying the view. The gods and goddesses were having fun except for 1, Hades. Hades the
god of the underworld was planning something.
Hades says, I wonder what would happen if I go to the living world again. With a big jump,
Hades jumped up really high and tried to make it to the living world. Many villagers went to Mount
Olympus to tell Zeus and Poseidon that their evil brother is trying to escape the underworld. Zeus
and Poseidon never had a good past with Hades. They always argued with him. Zeus and Poseidon
didn t want the villagers to be scared so they went to the village. When they arrived, they felt the
whole village shaking.
Zeus and Poseidon went to the underworld to stop Hades from leaving that wretched place. Zeus
and Poseidon saw Hades trying to escape. Hades saw his brothers and didn t want to talk to them,
so he jumped up the highest he could go and made it to the living world. Zeus and Poseidon went
up to the living world following Hades.
Zeus says, ВЁLook at you little brother. Trying to take over the world. The only thing you can do
is light a match for me.ВґВґ
Poseidon said, ВЁYeah. Try your best. Your power is like an owl eating a rat. In this case I am the

The Scarlet Letter. New York: Penguin, 1986. Print. This classic novel is set during the infancy
of this country. The Puritanical community of 17th century Boston finds the condemned Hester
Prynne with a scarlet letter A upon her chest along with the product of her indiscretion, an infant.
Upon the gallows, she is ordered to reveal the name of the father of her child yet she remains
steadfast in her resolve to remain silent and create a life for herself and Pearl. This decision
allows the reader to understand the tension that the puritan way of life created for all of the
citizens. The novel begins with the story of the narrator and his role within his customs house
duties two hundred years after Hester s story ended. The narrator s story is a direct reflection of
Hester s story and has many of the same symbolisms. Within the custom house the narrator is
surrounded by men who are the embodiment of do as I say not as I do. He is also isolated within
his own community much like Hester was in Boston. The Scarlet Letter is an example of early
drama that was created by strong symbols including nature vs nurture, evil and original sin. This
work by Nathaniel Hawthorne s is the beginning of the conflict that really began in the 18th century
of intelligence vs. emotions and how society moved away from Puritanical idealism with the advent

Critique Of The Great Divorce
Critique of The Great Divorce The Great Divorce is a wonderful work of literature written by
C.S. Lewis about a mans trip on a bus to heaven and an understanding of eternity written form a
first person perspective. It starts out with this man getting on a bus with several other people on
it; to his surprise the bus begins to fly. After a while in flight the bus begins to descend, and the
trees that were once figures far below him begin to get closer and closer until finally he lands on
a completely different plant than Earth. One of the first things that he realizes when he, and the
others, step off the bus is that the people who he road there with, who were once full figured,
regular looking people, had now become ghost; man stains on the brightness of that air, as he
puts. One of the first things that he notices is that the grass and the flowers do not brake when he
steps on them they just wave through him. He bends down to attempt to break a blade of grass
with the result only ending up in total failure after putting all his strength into it. As they were
standing there, all of a sudden spirits (solid people) came out of the distance and ran up to them.
Some of the people that accompanied them ran back on the bus while other, including him, stayed.
For the next few chapters it is basically him eavesdropping on conversations between the ghost, and
the spirits. The first conversation is between two people that clearly knew each other on earth. The
spirit had been a

the royal family had to leave Paris. Louis chief minister could stop the revolt in 1652 and by the

Thyroid Gland ( Tg )
Introduction
Thyroid gland (TG) secretes thyroxin and triiodothyronine (Garber et al., 2012). Its main
function is to make hormones and main job is to produce hormones T4 and T3 (Mortimer,
2011). To do this the human TG has to take a form of iodine from the bloodstream into the human
TG (Garber et al., 2012). This substance then undergoes a numerous of different chemical
reactions which resulted in the production of T3 and T4 (Mortimer, 2011). In order to make T4
and T3, TG needs iodine, a substance found in the food, both T4 and T3 contains four atoms of
iodine. T4 is then converted to T3 through the cells and tissues of the human body. More active
hormone is T3, because it influences the activity of all the cells and tissues of the human body.
Thyroid is controlled by hormones produced by hypothalamus and pituitary. Besides, these secreted
hormones in the TG are essential for normal growth, better development and metabolic function.
Thyrotropin releasing hormone (TRH) stimulates the pituitary to secrete TSH which in turn acts on
the TG to cause synthesis and secretion of thyroid hormones. Altered thyroid function is common
and respectively the release of TRH and TSH enable feedback of the hormones on the pituitary and
hypothalamus to inhibit synthesis. For example, a prevalence of hypothyroidism has been reported
in the literature that up to ten percentage in the general population is possible expected to occur.
It is an essential to have accurate assays of thyroid

Examples Of Hubris In Odysseus

sea, Odysseus endured great hardships all due to his hubris. His crew was decimated and he was
forced to live without his wife, Penelope, and son, Telemachus, for far longer than he ever
expected. However, like Gilgamesh, Odysseus is ultimately not ruined by his hubris. Instead,
Homer decides to end his tale by finally allowing him to arrive home with More [gifts] than he

In the climax of Oedipus the King, Jocasta hangs herself in shame at marrying her own son and
Oedipus follows by gouging out his own eyeballs, rendering him sightless once he finally saw
the truth. He is so despaired that he claims If there is any ill worse than ill, that is the lot of
Oedipus (179). He is then banished from his kingdom of Thebes, now hated by the gods (185).
Alone, sightless, and devoid of the respect and honor he once had, it seems apparent that
Oedipus life has been permanently ruined all due to his hubris. Considering that Sophocles was
making one of the most impactful warnings against hubris in literature, he probably hoped that
this was the exact message his audience would receive. However, one would be incorrect to
simply assume that hubris robbed Oedipus of any peace he could ever achieve. In the second
play of the trilogy, Oedipus at Colonus, Oedipus begins in the sordid state he was left in at the
end of Oedipus the King, but by the end, we see him protected and honored by Athens,
triumphant over his enemies, and apparently rewarded by the gods with everlasting well being
after death (Ahrensdorf 167). Oedipus has clearly experienced quite the transformation, from
ignoble outcast to revered figure blessed by the gods he once disrespected. Quite a different
message can be taken from the ending of this play as compared to the previous one. Hubris may
have caused immense pain and loss, but it was not the end of Oedipus happiness, no matter how
dire circumstances may have seemed for years of his life. Instead, Oedipus was able to find honor
and peace in death. Once again, this ancient text indicates that hubris is a tragic flaw that people

Essay about First Corinthians
First Corinthians
In 146 B.C. the Roman general Mummius crushed Greece s attempt towards independence by
completely destroying the city of Corinth. For a hundred years the area of the city laid in ruins.
Eventually Julius Caesar sent a colony of veterans and descendants of Freedmen to rebuild the
city, and in a short period of time a new Corinth was created from the old ruins (Ancient Corinth p.
20). During the rebuilding of Corinth Caesar was assassinated and reconstruction was continued by
Emperor Augustus (Background First Corinthians).

Corinth was a wicked city even when compared to the larger cities in the empire during this time
period. The very term Corinthian meant a profligate (wasteful), and the verb to corinthianize meant
to have intercourse with prostitutes (Interpretation of Corinthians p.685).
Paul left Corinth in the year 53 A.D.. He wrote First Corinthians in Ephesus during spring of the
year 57 A.D.. First Corinthians is a letter Paul wrote in reply of a letter sent to him by the
Corinthian church (Interpreter s Dictionary p.684 685)
The Church in Corinth at Paul s time, like the city, became corrupt, most likely from the pagan
atmosphere. The majority of the members were not wealthy; they were rebels, slaves, and
previously corrupt people. A very small group were wealthy and influential people. The church was
effected by the city life in respect to its attitude to wisdom and immorality. Again, the pagan
atmosphere had a very negative affect on the Church of Corinth (St Mark s Berowra).
Paul wrote First Corinthians primarily because of a division in the local church caused by several
different situations. Paul writes, Now, dear brothers and sisters, I appeal to you by the authority of
the Lord Jesus Christ to stop arguing among yourselves. Let there be real harmony so there won t
be divisions in the church. I plead with you to be of one mind, united in thought and purpose (First

So to everyone in the world all white men are privileged but to be real that s is not correct at all.
The truth is white privilege are white men that have money power connect and that means they
in the upper class. We all have seen new about a young white male college student rape two
fellow female classmates and he was sentenced to six months in prison but he only served three
months. He only served that short amount of time because of his father s connect money and
power. If that was someone lower class white men or any other young minority they would have
been in prison for 20 to life. The stereotype only applies to upper class and people that have
connects. Also their is another part to white privilege that always happens white men will always
get jobs over everyone and anyone. That does not mean that it s white privilege for all you could
know that position you both are going for is he is more qualified. Everyone throws white privilege
in white people s face and it really originated in white supremacy groups and that phrase white is
right came from. Another question ask by salam, What if white supremacy really is as pervasive
and powerful a force as many left of center intellectuals believe? (salam ). This question many
people think because its more than likely true. One thing about the white supremacy I agree that
they are the ones who came up with white male privilege or white privilege in general to be honest
it a kind looks similar to Adolf Hitler and the Nazis, Hitler was trying to make the ideal or perfect
race and in a lot of ways white supremacy groups are saying they are perfect and other things as

The Catastrophe That Is Commonwealth

The Catastrophe that is Commonwealth
According to the rules described by Hobbes in Leviathan, I would not like to live in a
Commonwealth. The characteristics that discourage me from living in Hobbes Commonwealth are
1) the defense of a monarchy as the best constitution, 2) the exemption of the Sovereign from civil
laws and social contract, and his or her intact human nature resulting from these exemptions 3)
subjects restrictions to do things such as protest due to their covenant and 4) all who are not
citizens are enemies. These characteristics differ immensely from the way in which my home
country, The United Statesof America, operates.
The first characteristic that I dispute is Hobbes defense of a monarchy as the best constitution.
In doing so, he defends the total power of a single ruler, or Sovereign. A monarchy is defined by
Hobbes as when the representative is One man (Hobbes 239). When an individual has absolute
power, their personal interests can take precedence over the interest of the nation. And though he

carefull to procure the private good of him selfe, his family, kindred and friends; and for the most
part, he preferrs the private: for the Passions of men, are commonly more potent than their reason

Reflective Essay On Hispanic Food
When first beginning this assignment, I thought of choosing Vietnamese food because I miss
having Vietnamese food for most of my meals, which was a luxury when I lived at home with
my parents. Also, I have not fully prepared a Vietnamese dish or meal myself, as cooking never
appealed to me. However, as I thought more about it, I would just be returning to the comforts of
what I had already known instead of challenging myself and expanding my experiences.
Eventually, I decided to pursue learning more about the Hispanic food culture because I greatly
enjoy Hispanic food, whether it is Americanized Hispanic foods such as burritos or enchiladas
from restaurants like Taco Bell or La Paz, or traditional, authentic foods I have had at my
Hispanic friends houses. I love exploring the infinite variety of ethnic dishes this world has to
offer, but I do not pay much attention exactly to what I am eating, what is in it, and how to
prepare it myself. This assignment gave me the opportunity to go out and adventure into
Guerrero s Market on 11th and G street. I brought David with me, a friend from Honduras who
has exposed me to most of the authentic hispanic foods I have eaten. I decided to make ceviche,
and the two ethnic ingredients not used in mainstream American cuisine I selected were avocados
and tostadas. When I first arrived at Guerrero s Market, it reminded me of the haymarket in the
sense that it was made of brick, and it was old and small. In all its age, it

The Black, And Curly
Dark, matted hair spiraled from his head into several gelled angles, almost hiding his closed
eyes. His lashes were an unnatural black, and curly, but not quite feminine. A small stubble
showed that he was in need of a shave. His skin was a soft mocha color while his cloths blared in
a difficult contrast. He was obviously in a struggle when it all happened, but his face seemed
unharmed. The cuffs of his collared shirt were ripped off, revealing scars and bruises. He couldn t
have been any older than a high school student.
Kile felt slightly intimidated by his looks. No more being the most handsome. Wait, that was
stupid! He is kidnapped, this kid is kidnapped, now this guy! And what does he do? Worry that he
isn t the pretty boy that he had clung on to for most of his life. Now he just felt bad. Kile s almost
illuminating eyes watched Vincent as he too, was fairly curious of this new kidnap ie. If that was
even a thing .
The one responsible for all this kidnapping stood back and watched them with crossed arms and
his back against a near by wall. His new special was certainly a different one. He found him most
intriguing. Obviously the young man had Latino origins of sort, but he didn t sound it. When he
lashed out, the kidnapper couldn t help but to be reminded of his father. A thick, low, and almost
always angry Irish accent. How much he hated that man before made it all slightly funny to the
man, that now that man could be even the slightest

How Does Jean Valjean Save Cosette From The Thenardier
In Victor Hugo s Les Miserables, Jean Valjean saves Cosette from the Thenardiers, just as I helped
redeem a mistreated girl from her abusive parents.
After the bishop inspires Jean Valjean with the notion of God s redemption, the protagonist begins a
series of redemptive acts, with the rescue of Cosette from the Thenardiers carrying the most weight
of his own life. Circumstances force Fantine to leave Cosette with the Thenardiers. This reckless
family forces Cosette to eat off of the ground like a dog, mop all their floors, and they treat her like
a useless peasant. Jean Valjeanrescues Cosette by paying Thenardier for her freedom. Jean Valjean
dedicates his entire life to providing for and protecting Cosette. She in turn gives him the strength

The Faults Of The Power Grid
Chapter: 1 Introduction
In today s modern world is heavily dependent on continuous and reliable power supply. Many of the
industrial processes, manufacturing, production, repairing, maintenance and not to forget a whole
city is heavily dependent on this continuous supply. It is a harsh reality to live in system without
problems is next to impossible. This problems in general are called faults in the power grid
language.
On daily basis many faults occur on the power grid and steps are to be taken to eliminate/remove
this faults as quick as possible. If the fault persists for long it could result in a havoc and loss of
huge amount of money, which is unacceptable.
The faults mainly occurring on a power grid includes over current, over voltage and short circuit. It
is also a harsh reality that this problems cannot be to some extent kept in mere attention of humans,
whose capability and speed to some extent are limited.
Hence a fast acting mind is required that takes care of this problem. To solve this problem PLC
(Programmable logic controller) comes into the picture. It is used to operate relays (a type of
switch) which in turn assists the CB (circuit breaker) to isolate the faulty part from the healthy
one as quick as possible. It operates as per the logic stored in the mind of the PLC by the user.
The program language used in PLC is very much simple and user friendly as compared to other
previously used software i.e. micro controller. The programs can be fed to the brain

Mnemonic Modeling
When a hypothesis is formed and an experiment is planned, there are multiple steps to ensure the
measures taken are designed correctly and ethical. In this particular study about whether the new
mnemonic training will improve short term memory in 70 year olds. The conductor chose to
include testing 70 year olds with Alzheimer s disease to test the mnemonic program s effectivity. In
this experiment multiple aspects are being tested. First, the mnemonic s effectivity on the short tem
memory of 70 year olds. In this scenario is the group with no training is the control group, whereas
the group completing the program is the experimental group. The independent variable is the
mnemonic program and the dependent variable is score on Wechsler memory... Show more content

The experiment is this particular design because there are multiple variables at play: Alzheimer
s disease, the mnemonic program, and the Wechsler scale score. At the end of the study the
conductor will be able to determine if there is a relationship between the program and improving
short term memory in 70 year olds. The tester can use moderation to test if having Alzheimer s
and the program will have a relationship with a higher scale score. They could also use
mediation to see if either/ or the independent variables will have a relationship with increase scale
scores. Hierarchical linear modeling could be used to follow the pattern of increase or decrease in
an individual over time. Correlation methods have both their advantages and disadvantages. First,
the correlation test is that responses can be graphed and interpreted as positive showing that with
more training short term can improve, or vice versa. One other possibility is that the slope will
neither go positive of negative; this would indicate that the scale score has nor relationship with the
mnemonic program. The disadvantage to correlation tests is that the researcher cannot say her
program caused the elder s scores to increase, she simple cannot justify that because not tested
factors (age, diet, etc.) cannot be out

The Hurt Locker Brian Turner Analysis
For the most part all people carry a baggage weather it be stress, regret or an addiction etc. In
addition certain weights are harder to put down. Singularly any dependency can lead to an abyss
where one is just a by stander , with no control. Consequently addiction Is the gateway to that
feeling of having no control. Brian Turner in The Hurt Locker illustrates the addiction that
coincides with war through his use of metaphor s. Accordingly, war has always deplored a person
in to the events that took place while in battle. Consequently Turner s poem touched the hearts of
war veterans since they too felt this at some point if they do not still. Soldiers were merely slaves
to the war in Iraq. Wherefore as the labors in the past were slaves

Standardized Tests Argument
Standardized tests argument Do we really need 20 25 hours for testing? Some people think testing
is fine the way it is. I think testing needs a change. We spend way too much time doing
standardized tests that don t even measure the skills people need in life. My main pieces of
evidence are, the government is suggesting shorter tests, many other factors can affect standardized
testscores, and my last piece of evidence is standardized tests don t measure all the skills people
need in life. My first piece of evidence is the government is suggesting shorter tests. Kids spend on
average 20 25 hours taking standardized tests. We could spend more time learning other things
rather than teaching to the test. 2.3% of class time is spent on testing.... Show more content on

One thing standardized tests doesn t measure is creativity, or how well we think about it.
Another thing is verbal skills, it doesn t measure how well we speak or read. We ve been taking
the same IQ test for 100 years. We have had many chances to change the test ,but they think it is
fine. This paragraph explains that standardized tests don t measure all the skills people need in
life. Some people believe the test does not need to be changed and that it is just fine. 20 25
hours of testing is just the right amount of testing to give the correct data. I think not, it still does
not measure life skills and it is way too long. So now you know why the test needs changing.
This essay explains why we need shorter standardized tests. The main pieces of evidence I have
used are, the government is suggesting shorter tests. My second piece of evidence is many other
factors can affect standardized test scores. My last piece of evidence is standardized tests don t

The Role Of Parents Sport Socialization Of Youth
Research Paper:
The Role of Parents in Sport Socialization of Youth
Lucas Eckert
PSE4UO
Introduction Socialization is the process in which an individual becomes a member of society.
Parents are the most significant agent in the socialization of their children. They have a
tremendous influence on the type of people their children grow up to be. They pass on their
beliefs and values to their children and influence their child s personality and morals. In sports,
there is also a process of socialization, in which the individual becomes a part of the athletic
community. In this process, parents also posses significant influence over their children (Quinton,
2012). They decide whether or not their children play sports, which sports their children may play,
and they can greatly affect their child s enjoyment and performance in the sport. This influence can
either lead to positive or negative effects on the children s experience with sport. This depends on
the level of involvement and the nature of that involvement (Shwarzlose, 2013). The purpose of
this paper is to discuss the ways by which parents influence their child s process of socialization in
sport, and identify the positive and negative effects associated with the different methods. This
paper will also provide several case studies of professional athletes and evaluate the parents
involvement in the athletes career.
Pressure to Participate The most basic form of influence the parent possesses over the

Concealed Carry Research Papers
Gun Concealment
The year is 1978. A man is leaving his house to drive to work in the city of Chicago. He says
goodbye to his wife and children and walks out to his car, starts up the engine, and proceeds to
drive to work. When he arrives, a hooded man is walking up to him with a firearm and demands
his money. Now this man has little to no money to feed his family or pay their bills, and he could
have avoided all of this if he had just also had a firearm on him. All fifty states in the United States
of America have concealed carry laws as of 2013, which is a great step in the acceptance of
concealing firearms for normal civilians as no less than forty years ago only a handful of less
than ten states in America had right to carry laws and they still needed extensive background
checks and screenings, and now every single state in America has at least some form of right to
carry laws, some states provide much more freedom to conceal carry as some citizens can conceal
carry without a permit in certain states. People who oppose concealed carry argue that
neighborhoods and communities should have less guns, not more of them. They argue that adding
more firearms to the situation will make small disputes such as a misunderstanding into an
accidental shooting with someone being seriously injured. Concealed carrying is about letting the
average, law abiding citizen defend his or herself from possible attackers or ... Show more content

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Congestion Charging System
Congestion in cities, especially large cities, become major problem of society. People need to
travel on their job, shops, school, to do other activities important for normal functioning and
recreational activities. There are therefore, among the others, congestion charging systems.
Congestion charging is a system developed on principle that consumers should pay directly for
costs they impose, in this case congestion, in order to use resources efficiently. This system
represent daily charge for driving vehicle in the center of the city, to provide better quality of the

Philadelphia Fire By Cujoe Essay
Two texts that experiment with traditional forms of narration are Philadelphia Fire by John Edgar
Wideman and Pnin by Vladimir Nabokov. The narrator in Pnin tells Pnin s experience as a Russian
American professor, but the narration seems untrustworthy since he provides information about
Pnin that he could have only known if he was with him at the time. The narratoralso occasionally
incorporates his personal experiences in the text. On the other hand, the narrator, Cujoe, in
Philadelphia Fire attempts to tell the story of the 1985 police bombing that took place in
Philadelphia that targeted the group called MOVE. The narration of the story is complex because it
is told through Cujoe s stream of consciousness. The intersexuality and the Meta... Show more

Since a lot of the story is his stream of consciousness the reader needs to understand the world
through Cudjoe s perspective. This narration differs from the stereotypical style and is harder to
follow because Cudjoe is constantly thinking of various events and digresses in his thoughts. For
example, Cudjoe will look out his bathroom window and he will begin to think about women he
had relationships with and then he will write about his friend Sam. The reader needs to be able to
follow along with his thought process. AT times it seems like Cudjoe is not remembering a
memory correctly, but it s all a part of his thought process. Another element that makes the story
distinctive is that this is a fictional novel writing about Cudjoe who is writing a novel. In Cudjoe s
writing process he includes interviews with the people in the town who were affected by the
bombing. Additionally, Cudjoe incorporates Shakespeare s play the Tempest while he s narrating.
The narrator makes multiple references to various works of literature that the reader might not
catch unless they are familiar with that work. While it seems the narrator isn t exclusively
discussing the bombing at all times, not writing about the story in a linear and conventional form
shows the complexity about writing about this historic

Solar Power Importance
Solar power is an important aspect of life that people should consider putting in their homes.
Solar power is the process of obtaining the energy from the sun and converting it to multiple
uses. It can be used to light, heat, and cool homes for cheaper than electric companies. Solar power
is created by using a device called a solar panel. Solar panels are used to soak up the suns rays to
create renewable energy for homes and businesses. Solar poweris saved during the daylight so that
it can be used during the night. If it is a cloudy day; enough energy can be preserved. If it isn t,
the solar panel can still get the energy it needs if the sun s rays shine through the clouds. On a
cloudy day, the thicker the clouds the less energy obtained(U.S. Department of Energy,2009).
Solar power is mostly used in places with the most sunshine. For example, they are majorly used
in places in the United States like California, New Mexico, and Arizona. Another good place to
have solar panels is in other countries, especially close to the equator. Close to the equator is a
good spot for the use of solar panels because the sun s rays are stronger there.
The process of creating the Solar panel is not an easy process. Solar panels are made up of mostly
different types of silicon and glass like substances. The process of making them and installing them
is costly, but after that they are done, they are fine. A photovoltaic cell is a cell that converts solar
energy into electrical energy(

Political Philosophy Of Liberalism
Liberalism is a political viewpoint that is established on the thoughts of liberty and equality. Thus,
liberalists promote various ideas that are aligned to the concepts of liberty and equality such as
freedom of speech, freedom of religion, gender equality, and civil rights. In general, it can be
argued that the philosophy of liberalismis focused on protecting and promoting the freedom of the
people (Celikates and Jansen). As such, it presents the people as the central issue of politics. In
fact, according to the liberalists, the main function of the government is to protect individuals from
being oppressed by others. Nonetheless, liberalists are also aware that in the process of offering
this protection, the government is also likely to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Women are perceived to be weaker than men owing to the independence of men ad ability to
control resources. Tim look sees liberalism as an impediment to social communism owing to the
fact that it fosters individualism and independence of a person. It challenges the ability of an
individual to make informed choices and reveals the benefits of fostering communism to realize
socio economic and political excellence.
3. What is neoliberalism (you get a sense of neoliberalism in David Harvey, Elizabeth Povinelli,
Michel Foucault, and Wendy Brown s work)? What critiques of neoliberalism do Harvey,
Povinelli, and Brown offer? Neoliberalism refers to a perspective that sees mall time as working
time. It encourages people to participate in socio economic activities at all the time in a bid to
realizing the desired development. It plays an essential role in empowering the people to remain
committed to realizing success in life by engaging them to work at all the times (Harvey 44). It
does not acknowledge the significance of leisure in the socio economic development of an
individual. Critics of neoliberalism are against the fact that a person solely focuses on realizing
success at the expense of their wellbeing. It is of the essence for a person to allocate adequate
time for rest and leisure to realize the desired socio economic success (Harvey 47). Although the
critics of neoliberalism are not against working, they are against the non stop working of the

Introduction The extent of student s learning in academics may be determined by the grades a
student earns for a period of learning has been done. It is believed that a grade is a primary
indicator of such learning. If a learner earns high grades it is concluded that they may also have
learned a lot while low grades indicate lesser learning. However, many experiences and studies
found out that there are also several factors that would account for the grades. No single factor
can be definitely pointed out as predicting grades. It has been an interplay of so many factors
gender, daily allowance, social status, time and interest. In fact, almost all of existing

Borrelia Arthropod Vectors
There are four different strain of the Borrelia genus that is known to be found in arthropod
vectors. The Borrelia bacteria is a spirochete bacterium that is located in the gut of the infected
vector. Borrelia afzelii is commonly found in Asian and European countries, Borrelia garinii is
found throughout Europe, Borrelia burgdorferi and Borrelia mayonii are both strains that are seen
here in the United States. Borrelia burgdorferi and Borrelia mayonii are both found in the vector, a
deer tick, or Lxodes Scapularis. However, the strain Borrelia mayonii is found in the nymph stage
of the tick instead of the adult stage like the strain Borrelia burgdorferi.
Tick are not bugs, but they are small arachnids, that are part of the parasitiform. Ticks in these cases
are considered arthropod vectors which are an arachnid that can transmit the disease causing
organism from themselves to the host that they are feeding on. Ticks are external parasites, and
they live by feeding on the blood of a mammal, bird, reptiles, and amphibians. Tick pick up the
disease causing bacterium from a reservoir host that they are able to feed off. A reservoir host is a...

The Women s Liberation Movement Essay
In the attempt to gain equality for women across gender barriers in all aspects of society, the
battle that women have had to endure throughout history has been anything but peaceful.
Particularly in the United States, the women s liberation movement is an example of how
women in the U.S. took a stance to protest for their civil and reproductive rights, domestic
violence issues, women s suffrage, and sexual harassment and gender based violence that is
inflicted upon women on a daily basis. This movement was full of women passionate for gender
based equality in the U.S, however this feminist movement was not as easy to join if you were a
black woman. A reason for this hardship was because of the racial conflict and tension that is
experienced by African Americanpeople living in the United States that is dated back to the
inhumane implantation of slavery. Racismin America is the result of the white social construction of
identity and the perpetrated norm of the otherness. The marginalization of disclosing black women
from the U.S. women s liberation movement demonstrates an explicit example of how the attempt
to protest for gender equality was overshadowed by a racialized closed door way of thinking.
Therefore, this essay will closely examine the feminist liberation movement in the United States and
explain the hardships and racial struggles that black women had to endure in their attempt to join
this movement. It will look from a different angle towards this women s

  • 2. Essay about D-Day by Stephen E. Ambrose The destroyers of the naval armada prepared for the Normandy landings played a pivotal role in the battles on the beaches. Furthermore, without the support of the destroyers, specifically on Omaha Beach, the infantry landings on D Day would have failed and the Allies would have been defeated. D Day by Stephen E. Ambrose follows the landings on the Calvados coast of Normandy from the pre planning stages all the way up through the invasion and through about D Day plus one one day after the Normandy landings. The first two chapters deal with the combatants in a general fashion before moving on to the location of the landings and why it was chosen. From there, Mr. Ambrose moves into planning of the operation and the preparation for the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As the day progressed, this prospect seemed more and more likely until the naval commander released the destroyers to provide support to the troops on the beaches and on top of the bluffs. This support This support helped to both establish and maintain the American beach head at Omaha Beach. The units that were supposed to come ashore before the first wave were special tanks called DD, or Duplex Drive, tanks. These tanks, especially in the case of Omaha Beach, either sank before or were destroyed as they came ashore. The loss of these tanks meant that the troops landing on Omaha Beach would not have any close support from heavy weapons. ONce the troops began to land, this became a serious problem which the destroyers of the Allied armada solved for the troops on the beach. Destroyers would take turns cruising in as close as they could and then would proceed to provide fire support for the besieged troops by blasting machine gun and 88 mm gun emplacements with their five inch guns. This fire support was crucial to the formation of a beachhead on Omaha Beach, in doing so, preventing the Allied invasion on Omaha Beach from being thrown back and possibly ending the invasion of France in defeat. The other great contribution of the destroyers to the Normandy landings is more intangible. The actions of the destroyers as artillery served to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Wine Industry Case Study Wine Case Study Problem Statement The problem that the company must address refers to determining if it is better to develop distribution and marketing strategies controlled by the company, or to allow the distribution of the products to be performed by the merchants. This is a difficult decision to make because of its implications. The fact that the company s wine products are distributed by merchants has its advantages. These merchants know the market very well, they know buyers, and they know how to attract them. The networking of these merchants seems to be important in efficiently distributing wine products. But the collaboration with such distributors also leads to increased costs in the case of Chateau Margaux. In case the company decides to control its distribution chain, the costs can be reduced. However, this can have certain disadvantages. Therefore, the company s managers must determine what the company should do about its distribution process and marketing strategy. Situation Analysis The situation of Chateau Margaux can be attributed to the fact that the company has a reduced marketing activity. The competitive business environment in the wine industry requires important marketing activities that are intended to help improve the brand s position on the international market. Therefore, the problems that the company s managers must address refer to developing the marketing strategy in accordance with the characteristics and necessities of the wine market. ... • 4. Questioning the Reason of Human Existence on Earth in the... In the play Waiting For Godot, Beckett questions the purpose of human existence on Earth and reflects uncertainties in life through a series of meaninglessness events and acts played by the characters. The play contains only two acts and involves Pozzo and Lucky, who meet Vladimir and Estragon while they are waiting for Godotin both acts. Instead of evolving in a narratively structured order, the play unfolds in anti theatre fashion. Through Beckett s use of language, set, and the diminishing spiral , he presents the play in a way that one is not sure of what, if anything, happens or the significance of the characters. Thus, Beckett seems to want his audiences to think and analyze the play in a way that they normally would not. As we already know, Beckett s play is anti theatre, which means that his play does not follow the classical theatre format that unfolds in order from exposition, complication, crisis, climax to resolution. In fact, Beckett designs the play in a diminishing spiral fashion, which means that the play has no structure. It does not have a beginning, an end or a resolution. Besides a sense of time, which is demonstrated through day and night and the leaves on the trees in both acts, the two aimless characters, Vladimir and Estragon spend their time waiting and not knowing for whom. The play has no plot and the characters do not develop over time. For example, the characters forget about act I when they are in act II. This shows that the plot is not ... • 5. Building Appropriate Non Credit Programs Within Stetson... Stetson University, the oldest private non profit higher education institution in the state, has begun to investigate and recognize that a well educated workforce is a vital survival strategy for an economy; leadership recognizes that a well educated person more actively embraces his or her role as a contributing citizen. Stetson University s mission reads: ...to provide an excellent education in a creative community where learning and values meet, and to foster in students the qualities of mind and heart that will prepare them to reach their full potential as informed citizens of local communities and the world (Stetson University, 2014). Building appropriate non credit programs within Stetson University must take on an individualized approach, per demographic, per philosophy, per content area, and per administrative mission. The scope of for credit and non credit attainment is too large for the purpose of this essay; the focus will be on the current status of non credit education at Stetson University, current fiscal concerns within the providing unit, and potential remedies to overcome the dilemma of the non credit structure within the overall department of continuing education. Problem Statement Non credit students pay no enrollment fees and normally receive no college credit or official course grades (Barr McClellan, 2011). On the Shoulder s of Giants: The Role of Connections in Developing Intelligence Abstract This paper provides motivation for making connections between unrelated events as a basis for intelligence. The ability to apply this extended information as a problem solving technique instantiates the true nature of intelligence. Therefore, it is obvious the field of artificial intelligence should use the same approach. The way these connections are made and the occasional necessity for their modification is discussed. Examples are given showing the use of connections between linguistics and sociocultural systems studies and between engineering design and nature. Next, several examples connecting artificial intelligence with computer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Susan connected her falling during the biking accident to the doll falling. Therefore, it stands to reason artificial intelligence researchers rely on these connections to forward study in the field. Connections have been found to exist between linguistics and sociocultural systems studies and engineering and nature. Also, connections exist between artificial intelligence and computer programming, mathematics, astronomy, and engineering. Researchers in artificial intelligence themselves have varied backgrounds. This, however, is not unique to the field. History shows a precedence for connectionist activity in many of the great discoverers of the past. Therefore, researchers in artificial intelligence are expected to continue the practice of drawing from other disciplines in their quest to develop artificial intelligence. Early Connections: The Role of Experience Leonardo da Vinci said: all our knowledge finds its origins in our perceptions (Willis, p. 47). Just like falling off a bike, experiences form one s perception of how the world functions into a term called folk physics (Bechtel, p. 72). These workings can then be applied to new problems. Tackling new problems using previous solutions or experiences and applying this information to unrelated problems is known as analogy in problem solving (Andrew, p. 7). • 7. Identification Of Unknown Inorganic Ions Qualitative Analysis Identification of Unknown Inorganic Ions Introduction: Qualitative analysis helps us to find out the certain amount of specie in a sample. During qualitative analysis we do not know the type of specie present in the sample. We identify the type of specie in the sample by precipitating out the specie. The spot test method is used to observe the results. Solubility rules are used to find out the type of ions coming out of solution. The law of Conservation of Mass will help us to determine the true quantity of substances in the reaction. We know that when we dissolve an ionic compound in water the water molecules surround the ionic compound. Surrounding of molecules causes the dissociation. For some compounds the separation ... My brain told me to run and hide, but my body stood rooted to the ground.I was frozen...except the one heavy warm tear trickling down what seemed like my lifeless face. It was exactly a month after my 12th birthday when my parents moved me and my younger siblings to VYV in Jersey City. Regardless of the fact that we were just staying there until my parents found an actual house close enough to their office in New York and Princeton, I was quick to make it my home. For my sibling and I the VYV was heaven. It had a huge playground, an indoor pool and a game room. The VYV was also amazing for my parents because it was a gated entry building so it was completely safe and the lock on the front door was opened by an electronic pin code only my parents knew of. That s why after years of pleading with my parents to let me babysit my siblings for small pocket money they finally let me. I was ecstatic! I thought that was the happiest day of my life because I had always wanted to babysit and the small pocket money would help me save up for anything my 6th grade heart desired from my favorite store at the time, Bath Bodyworks. • 9. Ethical Implications Of Slut Shaming Taylor Durand Slut Shaming Introduction To the Term I mean did you see what Rachel wore to the party last night? Total slut. Don t you worry about adding too many notches to your belt? How many people have you slept with really? You re definitely getting into trashy territory Rachel. Many times I have heard variations of these quotations being said throughout my life. The real trash is policing someone s sexuality. Slut is a derogatory term used to degrade women s sexuality. In this text I will outline the problems and the harm that slut shaming bestows on women and their sexuality. Slut shaming is detrimental to women s psychological morale, her political standings, and her role and power in society and relationships. In order to better understand slut shaming, an explanation as to why it is a phenomenon in today s society needs to be given. One of my biggest concerns is the fluid usage of the word slut or whore. This phenomenon of slut shaming is mostly seen with teenagers and young adults and thus this is the group I will be focusing on. Young women and men seem to define a slut differently. Women define a slut as 1. A woman who is sexually active, 2. A woman who wears a lot of makeup, 3. A woman who dresses suggestively, 4. A woman who, despite her unpopularity, tries to get the attention of boys, 5. A woman who is assumed to be sexually advanced because her body is more developed, 6. Yet, the same brute force that exploited native populations is also responsible for Cuba s development into a flourishing colony. On October 28, 1492, Italian explorer Christopher Columbus discovered Cubaon his first voyage to the New World. Impressed with the beauty, natural resources, and prime location of the island, Columbus returned to Cuba on his second voyage in 1494. Though the establishment of encomiendas abused natives and supported African slave trade, the agricultural industry founded in Cuba by the Spanish became the colony s main source of income. When the Spanish arrived in Cuba in the late fifteenth century, they discovered tobacco native to the region and brought it back to Europe, where it was admired for its unique taste (Garcia). Tobacco encomiendas were built across the island and the crop was shipped to Europe in exchange for manufactured goods. Other cash crops including sugarcane, coffee, and animal hides were also exported via Spanish ships and taken to European consumers (Woodward). By 1600, Cuban tobacco had become renowned worldwide for its superior quality and cost nearly three times the price of its competitors (NAter). Though the success of the encomienda system is controversial due to its lack of morality, Cuba s economic development would not have been made possible without them. The agricultural industries and business partners formed by Spanish colonists enabled Cuba to rise as a powerful trade hub between Europe and the Americas. There are still three primary options we have to choose from in order to make our decisions. The option we have are to invest in real estate, retail franchise just for hats, or high yield municipal bonds. The decision was made to look at two possible outcomes for each equation instead of three. The hope was that we will be able to help simply the process by doing this action. The interests are whether the market will be Favorable or Unfavorable, so we have collapsed the Medium and Low outcomes. With each of these options there are different levels of risk that have to be considered in our decision making process. Forecasts serve as decision support tools that allow leaders to plan for the future by performing what if analyses to determine how changes in inputs affects outcomes (Nordmeyer, 2015). • 25. Critique Of The Great Divorce Critique of The Great Divorce The Great Divorce is a wonderful work of literature written by C.S. Lewis about a mans trip on a bus to heaven and an understanding of eternity written form a first person perspective. It starts out with this man getting on a bus with several other people on it; to his surprise the bus begins to fly. After a while in flight the bus begins to descend, and the trees that were once figures far below him begin to get closer and closer until finally he lands on a completely different plant than Earth. One of the first things that he realizes when he, and the others, step off the bus is that the people who he road there with, who were once full figured, regular looking people, had now become ghost; man stains on the brightness of that air, as he puts. One of the first things that he notices is that the grass and the flowers do not brake when he steps on them they just wave through him. He bends down to attempt to break a blade of grass with the result only ending up in total failure after putting all his strength into it. As they were standing there, all of a sudden spirits (solid people) came out of the distance and ran up to them. Some of the people that accompanied them ran back on the bus while other, including him, stayed. For the next few chapters it is basically him eavesdropping on conversations between the ghost, and the spirits. The first conversation is between two people that clearly knew each other on earth. • 27. Thyroid Gland ( Tg ) Introduction Thyroid gland (TG) secretes thyroxin and triiodothyronine (Garber et al., 2012). Its main function is to make hormones and main job is to produce hormones T4 and T3 (Mortimer, 2011). To do this the human TG has to take a form of iodine from the bloodstream into the human TG (Garber et al., 2012). This substance then undergoes a numerous of different chemical reactions which resulted in the production of T3 and T4 (Mortimer, 2011). In order to make T4 and T3, TG needs iodine, a substance found in the food, both T4 and T3 contains four atoms of iodine. T4 is then converted to T3 through the cells and tissues of the human body. More active hormone is T3, because it influences the activity of all the cells and tissues of the human body. Thyroid is controlled by hormones produced by hypothalamus and pituitary. Besides, these secreted hormones in the TG are essential for normal growth, better development and metabolic function. Thyrotropin releasing hormone (TRH) stimulates the pituitary to secrete TSH which in turn acts on the TG to cause synthesis and secretion of thyroid hormones. Altered thyroid function is common and respectively the release of TRH and TSH enable feedback of the hormones on the pituitary and hypothalamus to inhibit synthesis. For example, a prevalence of hypothyroidism has been reported in the literature that up to ten percentage in the general population is possible expected to occur. It is an essential to have accurate assays of thyroid ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the climax of Oedipus the King, Jocasta hangs herself in shame at marrying her own son and Oedipus follows by gouging out his own eyeballs, rendering him sightless once he finally saw the truth. He is so despaired that he claims If there is any ill worse than ill, that is the lot of Oedipus (179). He is then banished from his kingdom of Thebes, now hated by the gods (185). Alone, sightless, and devoid of the respect and honor he once had, it seems apparent that Oedipus life has been permanently ruined all due to his hubris. Considering that Sophocles was making one of the most impactful warnings against hubris in literature, he probably hoped that this was the exact message his audience would receive. However, one would be incorrect to simply assume that hubris robbed Oedipus of any peace he could ever achieve. In the second play of the trilogy, Oedipus at Colonus, Oedipus begins in the sordid state he was left in at the end of Oedipus the King, but by the end, we see him protected and honored by Athens, triumphant over his enemies, and apparently rewarded by the gods with everlasting well being after death (Ahrensdorf 167). Oedipus has clearly experienced quite the transformation, from ignoble outcast to revered figure blessed by the gods he once disrespected. Quite a different message can be taken from the ending of this play as compared to the previous one. Hubris may have caused immense pain and loss, but it was not the end of Oedipus happiness, no matter how dire circumstances may have seemed for years of his life. Instead, Oedipus was able to find honor and peace in death. Once again, this ancient text indicates that hubris is a tragic flaw that people can rise above in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

First Corinthians is a letter Paul wrote in reply of a letter sent to him by the Corinthian church (Interpreter s Dictionary p.684 685) The Church in Corinth at Paul s time, like the city, became corrupt, most likely from the pagan atmosphere. The church was effected by the city life in respect to its attitude to wisdom and immorality. Again, the pagan atmosphere had a very negative affect on the Church of Corinth (St Mark s Berowra). • 39. The Catastrophe That Is Commonwealth Alyssa Nolan PLSC 100 003 October 23, 2014 The Catastrophe that is Commonwealth According to the rules described by Hobbes in Leviathan, I would not like to live in a Commonwealth. The characteristics that discourage me from living in Hobbes Commonwealth are 1) the defense of a monarchy as the best constitution, 2) the exemption of the Sovereign from civil laws and social contract, and his or her intact human nature resulting from these exemptions 3) subjects restrictions to do things such as protest due to their covenant and 4) all who are not citizens are enemies. These characteristics differ immensely from the way in which my home country, The United Statesof America, operates. The first characteristic that I dispute is Hobbes defense of a monarchy as the best constitution. In doing so, he defends the total power of a single ruler, or Sovereign. A monarchy is defined by Hobbes as when the representative is One man (Hobbes 239). When an individual has absolute power, their personal interests can take precedence over the interest of the nation. And though he be carefull in his politique Person to procure the common interest; yet he is more, or no lesse carefull to procure the private good of him selfe, his family, kindred and friends; and for the most part, he preferrs the private: for the Passions of men, are commonly more potent than their reason (Hobbes 241). All artistic classes and extracurricular activities that I have participated in have taught me how to be more engaged in my learning, express myself in a healthy way, give myself constructive criticism, and boost my self esteem. The arts made me excited to wake up in the morning and go to school. When I am on stage, I am free to do what I love and be whoever I want to be without fear of judgment. As a student, thinking about going to a school without the opportunity to learn about and enjoy the arts is miserable. The arts create an extraordinary learning, safe, and social environment for students all over the world. Brain research has shown that music improves skills in math and reading, and also promotes creativity, attention, social development, personality adjustment, and self worth. Music is poetry, so there is no doubt that it can improve skills in reading and language. Also, Recent research offers a possibility with much better, science based support: that focused training in any of the arts strengthens the brain s attention system, which in turn can improve cognition more generally (Posner). • 41. Reflective Essay On Hispanic Food When first beginning this assignment, I thought of choosing Vietnamese food because I miss having Vietnamese food for most of my meals, which was a luxury when I lived at home with my parents. Also, I have not fully prepared a Vietnamese dish or meal myself, as cooking never appealed to me. However, as I thought more about it, I would just be returning to the comforts of what I had already known instead of challenging myself and expanding my experiences. Eventually, I decided to pursue learning more about the Hispanic food culture because I greatly enjoy Hispanic food, whether it is Americanized Hispanic foods such as burritos or enchiladas from restaurants like Taco Bell or La Paz, or traditional, authentic foods I have had at my Hispanic friends houses. I love exploring the infinite variety of ethnic dishes this world has to offer, but I do not pay much attention exactly to what I am eating, what is in it, and how to prepare it myself. This assignment gave me the opportunity to go out and adventure into Guerrero s Market on 11th and G street. I brought David with me, a friend from Honduras who has exposed me to most of the authentic hispanic foods I have eaten. I decided to make ceviche, and the two ethnic ingredients not used in mainstream American cuisine I selected were avocados and tostadas. • 45. The Faults Of The Power Grid Chapter: 1 Introduction In today s modern world is heavily dependent on continuous and reliable power supply. Many of the industrial processes, manufacturing, production, repairing, maintenance and not to forget a whole city is heavily dependent on this continuous supply. It is a harsh reality to live in system without problems is next to impossible. This problems in general are called faults in the power grid language. On daily basis many faults occur on the power grid and steps are to be taken to eliminate/remove this faults as quick as possible. If the fault persists for long it could result in a havoc and loss of huge amount of money, which is unacceptable. The faults mainly occurring on a power grid includes over current, over voltage and short circuit. It is also a harsh reality that this problems cannot be to some extent kept in mere attention of humans, whose capability and speed to some extent are limited. Hence a fast acting mind is required that takes care of this problem. To solve this problem PLC (Programmable logic controller) comes into the picture. It is used to operate relays (a type of switch) which in turn assists the CB (circuit breaker) to isolate the faulty part from the healthy one as quick as possible. It operates as per the logic stored in the mind of the PLC by the user. The program language used in PLC is very much simple and user friendly as compared to other previously used software i.e. micro controller. The programs can be fed to the brain ... At the end of the study the conductor will be able to determine if there is a relationship between the program and improving short term memory in 70 year olds. The tester can use moderation to test if having Alzheimer s and the program will have a relationship with a higher scale score. They could also use mediation to see if either/ or the independent variables will have a relationship with increase scale scores. Hierarchical linear modeling could be used to follow the pattern of increase or decrease in an individual over time. Correlation methods have both their advantages and disadvantages. First, the correlation test is that responses can be graphed and interpreted as positive showing that with more training short term can improve, or vice versa. One other possibility is that the slope will neither go positive of negative; this would indicate that the scale score has nor relationship with the mnemonic program. The disadvantage to correlation tests is that the researcher cannot say her program caused the elder s scores to increase, she simple cannot justify that because not tested factors (age, diet, etc.) cannot be out ... • 49. The Role Of Parents Sport Socialization Of Youth Research Paper: The Role of Parents in Sport Socialization of Youth Lucas Eckert PSE4UO Introduction Socialization is the process in which an individual becomes a member of society. Parents are the most significant agent in the socialization of their children. They have a tremendous influence on the type of people their children grow up to be. They pass on their beliefs and values to their children and influence their child s personality and morals. In sports, there is also a process of socialization, in which the individual becomes a part of the athletic community. In this process, parents also posses significant influence over their children (Quinton, 2012). They decide whether or not their children play sports, which sports their children may play, and they can greatly affect their child s enjoyment and performance in the sport. This influence can either lead to positive or negative effects on the children s experience with sport. This depends on the level of involvement and the nature of that involvement (Shwarzlose, 2013). The purpose of this paper is to discuss the ways by which parents influence their child s process of socialization in sport, and identify the positive and negative effects associated with the different methods. This paper will also provide several case studies of professional athletes and evaluate the parents involvement in the athletes career. He says goodbye to his wife and children and walks out to his car, starts up the engine, and proceeds to drive to work. When he arrives, a hooded man is walking up to him with a firearm and demands his money. Now this man has little to no money to feed his family or pay their bills, and he could have avoided all of this if he had just also had a firearm on him. All fifty states in the United States of America have concealed carry laws as of 2013, which is a great step in the acceptance of concealing firearms for normal civilians as no less than forty years ago only a handful of less than ten states in America had right to carry laws and they still needed extensive background checks and screenings, and now every single state in America has at least some form of right to carry laws, some states provide much more freedom to conceal carry as some citizens can conceal carry without a permit in certain states. People who oppose concealed carry argue that neighborhoods and communities should have less guns, not more of them. Solar power is the process of obtaining the energy from the sun and converting it to multiple uses. It can be used to light, heat, and cool homes for cheaper than electric companies. Solar power is created by using a device called a solar panel. Solar panels are used to soak up the suns rays to create renewable energy for homes and businesses. Solar poweris saved during the daylight so that it can be used during the night. If it is a cloudy day; enough energy can be preserved. If it isn t, the solar panel can still get the energy it needs if the sun s rays shine through the clouds. On a cloudy day, the thicker the clouds the less energy obtained(U.S. Department of Energy,2009). Solar power is mostly used in places with the most sunshine. For example, they are majorly used in places in the United States like California, New Mexico, and Arizona. Another good place to have solar panels is in other countries, especially close to the equator. Close to the equator is a good spot for the use of solar panels because the sun s rays are stronger there. The process of creating the Solar panel is not an easy process. The Women s Liberation Movement Essay In the attempt to gain equality for women across gender barriers in all aspects of society, the battle that women have had to endure throughout history has been anything but peaceful. Particularly in the United States, the women s liberation movement is an example of how women in the U.S. took a stance to protest for their civil and reproductive rights, domestic violence issues, women s suffrage, and sexual harassment and gender based violence that is inflicted upon women on a daily basis. This movement was full of women passionate for gender based equality in the U.S, however this feminist movement was not as easy to join if you were a black woman. A reason for this hardship was because of the racial conflict and tension that is experienced by African Americanpeople living in the United States that is dated back to the inhumane implantation of slavery. Racismin America is the result of the white social construction of identity and the perpetrated norm of the otherness. The marginalization of disclosing black women from the U.S. women s liberation movement demonstrates an explicit example of how the attempt to protest for gender equality was overshadowed by a racialized closed door way of thinking.
