Police And Criminal Evidence Act
create an understanding and response to this statement, I will first explain the legislation that
police have to abide by when it comes to the treatment and rights of a suspect before they have
turned into the defendant . This will have a main focus on Code A and Code C within the Police
and Criminal Evidence Act (PACE) 1984 and parts of the Criminal Justiceand Public Order Act
(CJPOA) 1994. I will then address the two models of criminal process created by H. Packer; these
models both have different values and create a debate on whether the rights of the defendant should
be protected rather than the victim. The Human RightsAct 1998 will then be used to show that it
can be used to help terrorists stay in the United Kingdom. To conclude I will give my opinion on
the statement and explain how the research I have found backs it up.
In the 1970s there was a debate in the treatment and evidence collected about the arrest of suspects
in conjunction with the bombings of Birmingham and Guildford. This then caused the Home
Secretary to appoint a Royal Commission on Criminal Procedure (RCCP), which later helped
introduce the Police and Criminal Evidence Act (PACE) 1984 (Newburn, 2003, p.93). PACE sets
out the powers that police have to stop and search, arrest and how they should treat suspects when
they are detained and questioned. It aims to protect the rights of individuals (PACE, 1984).
Under code A of PACE, the police need reasonable grounds for suspicion to stop and search a

The Ethics Of Cloning Extinct Animals
In 1996, science made a breakthrough that changed the idea of cloning. The lamb Dolly was the
first successfully cloned mammal. After this people began to think that scientists would try cloning
humans. The technology and the funds are not there for those advances. Also, in some countries it
is not legal to do so. The next step was to clone extinct animals. This is also known as de extinction.
When evaluating the dilemmas that can come with cloningextinct animals, the person must look at
the purpose of the animal and what it could do today for us, the reason as to why it had became
extinct and how to prevent that again, and lastly the concept that if we had the animals, and we put
them back, and the world wasn t ready.

There are many animals that have went extinct due to humans in some way, shape, or form. If it
is due to our overpopulation and moving into new areas taking over other habitats, which could
also be deforestation or if it is due to poaching. For example, the West African Black Rhino was
officially announced as extinct as of last year, 2016. Others like the passenger pigeon, Chinese
river dolphin, wooly mammoth, and Tasmanian tiger are on the list of interest to begin working
with their DNA. Scientist would like to bring species back like these and do not plan to waste
any time on others like the T rex who has been gone for about 65 million years. First, the T rex is
not needed in our present ecosystem. Secondly, we do not have a living species that could lay an
egg at that size. Their plan is to not recreated Jurassic Park, the movie but to revive the species we
have harm to possibly help the environment. Many of the species that have already become extinct
have made impacts on our living species to the point that they are declining. The ecosystems have
changed and our existing species are struggling to evolve. The wooly mammoth was a major
contributor to their ecosystem in the Arctic. When mammoths no longer existed, the area went
from grasslands to the cold tundra it is today. The limitations with this would be funding and would

Twenty Years at Hull-House Essay
Twenty Years at Hull House
Two Works Cited Victoria Bissell Brown s introduction to Twenty Years at Hull House explains the
life of Jane Addams and her commitment to insight social change to problems that existed during
the turn of the 20th century. As a reaction to the hardships of a changing industrial society, Addams
decided to establish a settlement house in the West side of Chicago to help individuals who had
suffered from the cruelties of industrialization. Rejecting the philosophies that stemmed from the
Gilded Age, such as social Darwinism and the belief that human affairs were determined by natural
law, Addams was a progressive who wanted government to be more responsive to the people....

At the beginning of the chapter, the author raises questions that were prevalent a century ago and
that are still important today. The one question I found most interesting is, Can white, native born,
economically secure Americans ever really understand, much less help, those who are struggling to
survive? (1). Much of the prevalent political culture emphasized Aryan superiority, as well as the
concern a changing society would suffer from massive immigration. Even authors, such as
Charlotte Perkins Gilman, recognized the oppression she suffered from as a woman. However, she
did not recognize the oppression others suffered in her embracing of anti immigration as well as
racist beliefs. Reactionary to the massive immigration of this time, Charlotte Perkins Gilman also
supported eugenics to improve the human race. Yet Addams did not argue immigrants were inferior
to the Aryan people. In fact, three quarters of her residents at Hull House were first and second
generation immigrants. Not only was Addams sympathetic to the poor, but she also was
sympathetic to the plight of immigrants.
I find Jane Addams s commitment to social change extraordinary. To answer the question stated
previously, I would say, Yes, because Jane Addams was not under any pressure or obligation to
help the poor, especially at a time when the dominant belief was

Self-Realization in Yeats An Irish Airman Foresees His...
Self Realization in Yeats An Irish Airman Foresees His Death
An Irish Airman Foresees His Death was written by William Butler Yeats in memory of Major
Robert Gregory who was killed in action on January 23, 1918 while fighting on the Italian front
during World War I (Ellmann and O Clair, fn. 154). Yeatswas close with the Gregory family, but
particularly with Lady Gregory due to their partnership in establishing the Irish National Theatre.
Although Major Gregory is never explicitly mentioned in this poem, it is a commonly held belief
that the airman in the poem is supposed to be him (Stock 118). This poem is not considered an
elegy, but has been referred to as a tragic soliloquy (Ramazani 84). It is termed thus because the

The airman is not affected by this propaganda, though, as he claims that Nor law, nor duty bade
me fight, / Nor public men, nor cheering crowds (9 10). The airman does not enter the war with
any personal dreams of helping his own people. He is of the opinion that, no matter what way
the war turns out, his people will not be affected too much one way or the other. This feeling is
expressed when he says, My country is Kiltartan Cross, / My countrymen Kiltartan s poor, / No
likely end could bring them loss / Or leave them happier than before (5 8). The Irish airman does not
enter the war hoping to bring about any significant change for his own people.
In many ways, he is very aloof and separates himself from the whole situation. A. G. Stock agrees
with this interpretation, saying that the airman...is presented as a type: he is Robert Gregory,
but also he stands for the lonely aloofness which was part of Yeats ideal (118 119). The airman
does not seem to care about the politics behind the war. He seems to enter the war on a whim,
out of desire to do something exciting and reckless with his life. He is going to fight in the war
in order to prove to himself that he can do it. He says that it was A lonely impulse of delight
/ Drove to this tumult in the clouds (11 12). The language itself [of the poem], bleakly indifferent,
inexorably denying all public or private causes, encloses,

Criminal and Civil Law in the English Legal System Essay
One of the main differences between criminal cases and civil cases is that they are held in
different courts, this is because there is a significant distinction between a civil wrong and a
criminal wrong. Crimes are considered to be a type of wrongdoing, however civil wrongs tend to
have only an impact on the parties involved in the case. For example: a breach of contract. Where
as criminal wrongs tend to have an impact on society itself. For example: a murder, theft or rape.
Criminal law is dealt with in the Magistrates court and if very serious in the Crown court. It is
said to be more difficult to win a case in the Magistrates court and Crown court than in a civil court
as in a magistrates ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Magistrates also determine, subject to appeal, whether the defendant should be kept in custody
pending trial. Magistrates can impose conditions to meet their concerns about granting bail. Courts
have limited information on which to base bail decisions, with the exception of experimental bail
information schemes involving the probation service. Normally prosecutors and sometimes defence
lawyers make representations as to whether bail should be granted or not. There is a high degree of
correlation between prosecutors representations and magistrates decisions. One problem the society
has with magistrates is that sections of the community are underrepresented in the lay magistracy.
The lay magistracy remains predominately white, middle aged, middle class and conservative.
The other court of trial for a criminal case is the Crown Court. Indictable offences like murder
can only be dealt with in this court and also triable offences for example, all theft cases. An
accused has the absolute right of trial in the Crown Court but if he/she elects summary trial the
magistrates may decline to hear the case. Even if they do they may commit a convicted person to
the Crown Court for sentence if they believe their own sentencing proves to be inadequate. Three
types of judges sit in the court High Court Judges, circuit judges and recorders. The latter are part
time and hear the less serious

Rifle Scope Research Paper
Out in the field, you need to make sure that you have high quality gear on you to ensure that your
hunt goes smoothly. Whether it s making sure that you stay warm with thick, durable clothing, or
having an adequate blade for when it s time to dress your kill, the best gear can mean the difference
between a successful hunt or an unproductive day in the woods.
Of all the gear you can have, however, I would argue that one of the most important pieces is
your rifle scope. As a hunter, vision is probably your best asset, considering that you have to see
your target to ensure a proper kill. Today I ll be showing you some of the best huntingscopes on the
market so that you can get your next prey in your crosshairs and not go home empty handed. ...

Unfortunately, CVLIFE doesn t seem to name its scopes differently, so I ll just refer to this one
as the 50mm model. When talking about lens sizes, I like a larger scope since it lets in more
light and gives me better vision. Thus, this 50mm model is a marked improvement over the
previous 40mm version. However, you don t get a laser sight on this scope, which may or may not
be a bad thing, depending on how much of a badass you want to be.
Other notable features of this unit include a variable zoom range of 6 24X, a multi coated lens for
better clarity overall, and the fact that it comes with rings to mount on a 20mm Weaver Dovetail
Rail. Unfortunately, the rings that come with the scope only attach to that rail, so if you have
something different (like a Picatinny), then you ll need to get a different set of rings.

Strengths Of Group Work
Team role was once defined by Belbin as A tendency to behave, contribute and interrelate with
others in a particular way .
Group work can bring about mixed learning and allows for the conveyance in new ideas which
may not have materialised if I was working as an individual. According to Landsberger (2005):
Group learning, or working in groups, involves shared and/or learned values, resources, and ways
of doing things. Effective groups learn to succeed by combining these factors. However, each
group, and each individual, will only be as effective as they are willing to embrace and/or respect
differences within the group .
Initially working individually, I felt more at ease because there was only myself to consider and a
cause for concern was due to the possibility of some friction between group members when it
comes to different approaches.
However, despite the initial apprehension I have been able to see a rise in my confidence levels
and make drastic improvements in my weaker areas such as presentation skills, I have been able to
see the levels of my communication skills increase, I have accomplished personal achievements in
this short period of time and learned how to further conduct myself in a professional manner and
liaise with a variety of different people. These enhanced socialising skills will allow me to further
succeed with my career aspirations. By working alongside a range of colleagues who specialise in
different sectors I have been able to pick relevant

Comparing The Mutiny And The Rebellion
For both uprisings then, it appears that criticisms streamed in from every direction to attack
mutinous Indians, rebellious Jamaicans, and/or those Britons who favoured the opposite side of the
controversies. Yet what these critics all had in common was how they asserted their own patriotism
and Britishness while questioning or simply denying their detractors these values. The different
factions thus created their own definitions of what being civilised, being a Briton and being a
faithful subject of the Empire meant. Accordingly, this work draws together the Mutiny and the
Rebellion, and uses them as a case study to trace and interpret one conception Punch s of
Britishness and imperialism among the several which circulated in Britain at the time.... Show more

In fact, the blow inflicted by the Indian Mutiny to Britain s confidence and credibility was
renewed by the Jamaica Rebellion, so that it became urgent to redefine what kind of social and
political organization there should be in Britain and in her colonies. When deciding what to do
about the rebellious sepoys of India, it appeared that while comparatively trifling mutinies could
be contained, the scale and severity of the current conflict was seen to challenge to the very basis
of British rule. Similarly, for Semmel there was a real danger, particularly as the 1860 s were a
time of transition, and [...] the controversy over the Jamaica events came at a time when the smell
of revolution was clearly perceptible. Britain therefore had to quieten its internal disagreements
while reasserting its imperial rule more firmly if it wanted to avoid

configuration of most operating systems are not designed with security as the primary focus. Now
a days default setups are focus more on communications, usability and functionality. To protect our
servers we must establish solid and sophisticated server hardening policies for all servers in our
organization. Developing a server hardening checklist would likely be a great first step in
increasing our server and network security. Make sure that our checklist includes minimum security
practices that we expect of our staff.
Server Hardening Tips Tricks:
Server Hardening is the process of enhancing server security through a variety of means which
results in a much more secure server operating environment. This is due to the advanced security
measures that are put in place during the server hardening process. There are several key
requirements you must meet to ensure that the server hardening processes described in this section

Essay On Estrogen
Jenna Gunselman
12/1/2011
Biochemistry Extra Credit Paper
Estrogen and Its Effects Estrogens are steroids that are important in the reproductive cycles of
humans and some animals, and they are the main female sex hormones. They easily diffuse across
cell membranes, and once they are inside, they bind to estrogen receptors to control many genes and
their expressions. In human women, there are three types of estrogen: estradiol, which is the
dominant form of estrogen in women who are not pregnant, estrone, which is produced during
menopause, and estriol, which is found in pregnant women.
Estradiol is the most potent of the three types of estrogen found in women, almost ten times
stronger than estrone and almost eighty times stronger ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both groups were then exposed for another 24 hours to etoposide, a drug used in chemotherapy that
promotes apoptosis. The results of this test showed that caspase 3 activity decreased in cells treated
with estrogen, but increased in cells not treated with estrogen. This supports the hypothesis that
estradiol does have an effect on apoptosis in bone cells, and that without it, cell death will increase
and bone density will diminish.
In addition to its effects on bone health, estrogen also has a huge effect on the cardiovascular
system. Studies have shown that it increases the levels of HDL, or good cholesterol, decreases the
levels of LDL, or bad cholesterol, and relaxes and dilates blood vessels so that blood flow will
increase. There is also evidence that estrogens contribute to the maintenance of the health of the
endothelium, or the lining of the blood vessels, thus further protecting the cardiovascular system
from plaque and heart disease. With menopause, estradiol levels drop, and so these effects on the
heart and blood vessels are lowered, giving postmenopausal women a higher risk of heart disease
than premenopausal women.
A study done by Kim and Levin in 2006 at the University of California states that 17 beta estradiol
typically has a protective property on the cardiovascular system, and that it decreases the amount of
cell death in cardiomyocytes, or heart muscle cells. To test this theory, female rats

In Cask of Amontillado by Edgar Allan Poe, Fortunato s character is shown as an ignorant, too

Montresor says My dear Fortunato, you are luckily met. How remarkably well you are looking
today. He puts up a good front acting friendly. Fortunato allows Montresor to lead him down into

Montresor insists on Fortunato going back up and out of the catacombs due to his coughing he

Laurent Clerc s Deaf School
Laurent Clerc was born on December 26, 1785. It is believed that Clerc became deaf by falling
off of his high chair into the kitchen fireplace around age one. He had gotten a severe burn on
his right cheek, and a fever developed, and later on his hearing and smelling senses were
damaged. It was never quite clear whether he was born deaf, or if it had been a cause of his
accident. Clerc s parents had tried many different treatments to get Clercs hearing back, although
none of them succeeded.
Clerc did not go to school and didn t learn to read or write. For 11 years Clerc stayed at home
instead of going to school. While at home Clerc spent his time either exploring the village, or
taking care of the animals, such as; cows, turkeys, and horses. Eventually, at age 12 Clercs uncle
godfather, Laurent Clerc, who he was named after, entered him into the Institut National des Jeune
Sourds Muets, which was the first public school for the deaf in the world. In school, Clerc s
assistant teacher, Abbe Margaron, tried to teach Clerc to pronounce his words, which Clerc had a
difficult time with this, at one point his difficulty in pronouncing words enraged Abbe so much
that he hit Clerc So hard underneath his chin, which caused Clerc to accidentally bite his tongue
so hard, he decided he wanted nothing to do with speaking, and would never again learn to speak.

A Criticism Regarding Snap And The Dependency Concern Essay
Another criticism regarding SNAP is that by providing families or individuals with the means to
purchase food, those people are encouraged to depend on the government for life or perhaps it will
even create intergenerational dependence. Typically, households who qualify for SNAP utilize it
for just 8 to 10 months ( Use the Media to... ). There are restrictions that limit healthy adults without
dependents to only three months of foodassistance every three years. Another myth that ties in
with the dependency concern is the idea that only lazy people who do not want to work receive
food assistance. According to the USDA, 42% of recipients are part of a household where
someone works and 80% of recipients had a job in the year before or after receiving benefits (
Use the Media to... ). Additionally, it has been estimated that only 75% of the households who
would qualify for SNAP actually utilize the program (Ribar Swann, 2014). It is also important to
note that children, the elderly, and people with disabilities make up more than half of the
recipients of food assistance (SNAP Frequently Asked Questions). One of the biggest topics of
debate regarding SNAP is the lack of regulation of types of food that recipients may purchase with
their allotment. Those who oppose food assistance, typically conservatives, want strict rules about
what can and cannot be purchased on food stamps. Those who support food assistance, typically
liberals, believe recipients should be able to determine

it looks to me like you have been swindled, baby, and when you re swindled under the Napoleonic

being told that Belle Reve had been lost. He has lost property, something that had belonged to him.
He probes into the problem without tact or diplomacy. He goes straight to the truth without any

be annoyed and frustrated with Blanche, the only thing that can actually be held against him is that
fact the he has no interest in Blanches feelings, however given the circumstances this is
understandable. Stanley feels the first threat to his marriage after the big fight he has with Stella

It is her presence, which is causing the dissension between him and his wife. Then the following

Compare And Contrast Martin Luther King Jr And Malcolm X
The Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s and 1970s paved a way towards a more racially
harmonious America. Two famous men during this movement for the black community were
Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X. Two very different men with two very different
ideologies and two very different strategies towards equality. One was credited as the Father of the
Civil Rights Movement while another one was a hostile extremist who encouraged violence only
for self defense. Both men made an impact on civil rights for the black community, but people were
more gravitated towards King than they were to Malcolm X. On August 28th, 1963; one of

and Malcolm X giving two completely different speeches, both had similar strengths in these
speeches. Both men were powerful speakers who provoked powerful speeches. They were sure
to clarify what they meant and where they stood, and both knew just what to say to their
audience. These two men were very popular in their time and had many followers, but the people
tended to gravitate more towards King than Malcolm X. King knew how to make his speeches
memorable, not just by who wrote it but how he wrote it. King used metaphors, used repetition,
and quoted well known documents in his speeches. I have dream is a well known and
remembered phrase in his speech, but is not said until closer to the end of his speech. One
hundred years later... and Now is the time... and let freedom ring... are also phrases King repeats.
By using repetition in his speech, he made it more memorable to his audience and made the
meaning of his speech clearer. Using metaphors painted a more illustrated picture for his
audience. King described America s promise of freedom as a check marked insufficient funds,
which made his speech more illustrated and therefore, more memorable to his audience.
Malcolm X used metaphors as well, though did not use as much repetition in his speech like
King did. Malcolm X s speeches, while just as powerful, were not as memorable. His main
points were expressed, that the Honorable Elijah Muhammad was a prophet and was the only
means of escape from the doomed White America. Malcolm X does not quote the Bible word for
word but does explain the prophets and their stories. The main prophet he uses is Moses, and he
compares and contrasts Moses to Elijah Muhammad. He compares how Pharaoh did not take
Moses seriously and that now White America is doing the same to Muhammad. Even comparing
the Civil Right leaders to the magicians Pharaoh hired to throw off Moses people. They have been

Analysis Of Harper Lee s Kill A Mocking Bird
Essay Rough Draft When people think about the Southern United states during the twentieth
century they often think about the racism and prejudice that engulfed it. However, it is
important to realize that this intolerance and hatred was perpetuated not by the majority of
people, but by a loud spoken and violent minority. This concept is one of considerable emphasis
in To Kill a Mocking Bird and comparably in contemporary issues unfolding right now in Syria
and Afghanistan, whereby the masses stand idle, in morbid fear of a radical minority. The same
concept applies to Harper Lee s novel, for every character who demonstrates prejudice, keeping
people outside the community, there is another character, if not more, who act as community
builders. The conflict between Bob Ewell and Atticus, Calpurnia, and even women and children
in general, all demonstrate how the matter of prejudice and racism was one of stark division at
the time. While many characters demonstrate prejudice in the novel, Calpurnia is a significant
example of someone who acted as a community builder. When she took Jem and Scout to the
black church, on the outskirts of Maycomb, she did so in defiance of the practice of segregation
imposed by the Jim Crow laws. While most of the black peoplein attendance at the mass offered
the children signs of respect, [stepping] back and [taking] off their hats (Lee 157), Lula, an
acquaintance of Calpurnia, questioned her defiance and asked Calpurnia why she was

Why Federal Communication Commission Has Legal Authority...

Final Paper
JOUR 3060
Due Date: 4 May 2015
Section I
In order to understand why Federal Communication Commission has legal authority to regulate
media ownership and should be allowed to continue to regulate media ownership, you must first
know the statues that gave way to the regulation. The FCC was created by the Communications Act
of 1934. The Communications Act of 1934 replaced the Radio Act of 1927, and the FCC
superseded the FRC (Federal Radio Commission). This act called for the government to regulate
in the public interest and foreign communications by radio and wire. The FCC can be traced back
to the Wireless Ship Act of 1910. The Wireless Ship Act of 1910 required large ships to have
wireless equipment and radio operators on board...made it illegal not to retransmit or answer
wireless transmissions from ships. This law was the first U.S. regulation on devices that used
electromagnetic spectrum. The Chain Broadcasting Rules, was the first national ownership limit
passed by the FCC in 1941. These rules regulated major national radio networks, in relation to local
stations. These regulations also included a structural ownership rule limiting a radio network from
owning more than one broadcast station within a market area, reflecting the Commission s earlier
presumption that a single entity holding more than one broadcast license in the same community
contravened the public interest. This idea was upheld in the Supreme Court

Studies In Paul s Letter To Philippians Summary
The letter to the Philippians has been the subject of historical criticism in relation to its
contemporary authors and philosophers. In Studies in Paul s Letter to the Philippians , Hans Dieter
Betz scrutinizes five segments from the letter to the Philippians to examine scholastic
interpretations and to suggest a new interpretation regarding its literary genre as preparation for
death(praemeditatio mortis).
Hans Dieter Betz is a German American scholar of the New Testament and Early Christianity.
He was born and raised in Germany, and he earned his Doctor of Theology at Mainz in 1957 under
Dr. Herbert Braun. He served as editor of the lexica Religion in Geschichte und Gegenwart (4th ed.

He differs his book from commentaries in purpose, nature and content, stating that his purpose of
study is for further investigations regarding specific passaged or problems yet unresolved or even
undiscovered (p1). For reading Philippians, Betz critically engages in the previous literary
commentaries and employs textual and literary criticism. Especially he critically engages to
Lohmeyer s criticism on Philippians, affirming that Lohmeyer s interpretation on the Philippians
which reads the epistle as deutero Pauline and from the second century era. However Betz criticizes
Lohmeyer s interpretation of Philippians as the polemic of Martyrs. He points out that regardless of
vivid and impressive ideas about Martyrdom in the letter(p. 17), connecting his personal affliction to
Philippian martyrdom is too subjective to validate. Betz clearly demonstrates the difficulty of
accessing to the original manuscripts of the text(Volagen) through textual criticismand literary
criticism due to the additional redactions. By representing the uncertainty of the original text, he
emphasizes the variance of the text manuscripts and highlights the importance of textual criticism
and comparative studies to read

Exploring The Roots Of The Recurring Subjects And Symbols...
After nearly two centuries completely lacking in images, early Christians finally developed a
pictorial language to express their faith. The conventions developed early on would come to define
the middle ages, an entire era of almost exclusively Christian images. Early Christians adopted
classical conventions for their art, which would serve an opposing purpose for outsiders and
initiates. For outsiders, the symbols meant no harm. But to followers of the faith, the images are
loaded with meaning. The meaning inherent in the history of the symbol, when combined with a
biblical context, creates a full and multi faceted iconographic tradition. The purpose of this paper is
to explore the roots of the recurring subjects and symbols evident in the funerary paintings in
Catacombs of Domitilla in Rome.
Funerary paintings and sculpture provide the most thorough evidence of early Christian art. An
exceptional visual tradition has been preserved in the vast network of underground burial systems:
the Roman catacombs. One of the most extensive of these is the Catacomb of Domitilla. Beginning
in the third century CE, the Catacombs of Domitilla housed thousands of bodies from families rich
and poor, and extended for over seventeen kilometers in four distinct subterranean levels. In terms
of style, most of the works are indistinguishable from Roman paintings. If anything, the art style is a
more rushed and cramped version of illusionistic Roman wall painting. The use of iconography is

There were two Opium Wars. The first one was from 1839 1842. This war was fought between
China and Britain. This war was fought over the two not seeing eye to eye on a lot of things.
The second Opium War was from 1856 1860. In this war the British forces fought toward the
legalization of the Opium trade. The reason they did this was to be able to expand coolie trace, to
be able to open all of China to British merchants, and also to be able to expand foreign imports
from internat transit duties. This was when France then joined the British. In this essay we are

Difference Between Loyalty And Loyalty
Considering True Loyalty:
Loyal customers are excessively important to any business, and businesses spend great amount of
their time, energy and money analyzing and captivate those customers. However, the usual
definition of a loyal customer that we consider is a high spending customer, and that definition is
imperfect. Marketing to customers based on true loyalty requires more: complicated measurement,
better spend data, and considering that a regular customer is not the same as a loyal customer.
Traditional View of Loyalty:
Those who are Retailers commonly define a loyal customer as a high spending customer. However,
considering on a customer s spend within a single business while important tells only a fraction of
the story. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

To protect true loyalty, a product requires having an affecting connection with its customers, though
suggestions vary as to what that delightful emotion supposed to be. Various people would advise
that it s all concerning with Trust. A few would suggest rising Passion for the product. Still some
would give an opinion of creating an emotional experience.
True loyalty exists when
Customers feel safe,
Appreciated and smart
Every single one is substantially affecting idea, but they are vague, unearthly, and exceedingly
difficult to make progress able. They may not state it clearly, but when presented with this type of
suggestion, many marketers secretly scratch their heads. What does an emotional connection
indicate? What do I do to create it? How do I know if I have accomplished it?
The Emotional Drivers of Loyalty:
Although Loyalty can be measured in behavioral conditions (repeat purchases, share of wallet,
etc.), it is a product of an emotional connection. Emotions make behavior; loyalty is produced
when a product makes a customer experience a positive way. Once we recognize which emotions
makes loyalty, we can build up progress able plans to enable customers to create this emotional

Summary Of This Is Water By David Foster Wallace
There have two pieces of the article I recently read about, which is This is water by David Foster
Wallace, and Letter to a young poet by Rainer Maria Rilke. I will be discussing the contrast
between this two article and tell the audience what they were precisely thinking about life. For
Wallace, he passed commencement speech to share the advice to people who hear at a college
graduation. In his speech, he delivered the reality of how a typical adult life goes. His statement
also talked about decision making, and how all choices will impact our future growth. On the
other hand, Rilke conveys his ideas by wrote the letter to one military student who called
Kappus. In Rilke s letters, I mostly focus on letter eight, because he pays attention to solitude
and how it is essential to be a real artist. There is only through solitude that he will learn personal
truths and he told Kappus to need to trust own feelings and to face what is difficult. Ralike
talked about solitude in letter eight. As I grow older, I gradually understand that everything is
not going smoothly, it is hard. There have many things you cannot be avoided, such as solitude.
Nowadays, solitude already become a regular phenomenon in our daily life, for example, when I
walk on the street, I always saw a person walk alone, eats alone, go shopping alone, or even goes
to concerts alone. As Rilke said, Solitude it always becomes clearer that this is at the bottom, not

Analysis Of Marija Gimbutas s The Living Goddess
Archeology like any other science is prone to uncertainty and a couple mistakes. However, when
an idea is presented as a fact, it is outrageous, nothing is completely definite and everything is
basically a theory. Marija Gimbutas was very passionate about the Goddess, in The Living
Goddess, she says, The role of the father in prehistoric antiquity was either not fully understood or
not as highly valued as that of the mother, (112). Nevertheless, the way that she presented her
argument was not convincing. Gimbutas acted as though she knew the history of a civilization
just by looking at the artifacts she found, she used her own research as her evidence to support
her claims, and lastly she is guilty of letting her own ideas cloud her judgment. Throughout her
work, Gimbutas appears to be omniscient claiming to know that there was a civilization in Old
Europe that was matrifocal, peaceful and offered its citizens a higher quality of life. She paves the
road for her peaceful utopia by defining the word civilization through the eyes of an archeologist,
Historians have assumed that civilization implies a hierarchical political and religious organization,
warfare, a class stratification, and a complex division of labor, (Gimbutas, The Civilization viii).
Once she introduced the barbaric society that revolved around males she contrasts this by saying
that gynocentric cultures did not revolve around petty superficial things that mattered in a
patriarchal society (Gimbutas, The

Analysis of Women in the Book of Judges Essay
When interpreting the Hebrew Bible from a feminist perspective, many are quick to decry the
subjugation of women at the hands of men and the lack of female representation in dominant roles
in biblical literature. However, although some women are objectified or possibly marginalized, this
claim of inequality does not always hold true. Especially in the book of Judges, women are not
discarded as characters and are not wholly unappreciated. In fact, the book of Judges features
many strong female characters who serve in significant roles, and who are effectively portrayed as
leaders, heroes, and capable, resourceful individuals. An excellent example of an influential woman
in Judges is Deborah. From the beginning, Deborah is identified... Show more content on

It is even Deborah herself who gives the call to charge against Sisera s army, while Barak and his
soldiers comply. In Judges 5, commonly referred to as the Song of Deborah , praises are sung in
honor of this female military leader, who acts as a mother in Israel. Some scholars have even noted
parallels drawn between Deborah and the Canaanite war goddess, Anat (Ackerman 177).
Additionally, Deborah is respected as a religious figure. For example, Barak refuses to go to war
without Deborah by his side. According to Jo Ann Hackett, Barak s refusal to fight without the
presence of Deborah is not indicative of his ineptitude or of her military prowess. Rather, Hackett
proposes that Barak requests Deborah s participation because, as a prophetess and as a leader
chosen by the Lord, her presence indicates divine support (Hackett 357). If Deborah were visible to
the Israelite soldiers, morale would be lifted with the thought that the Lord would deliver the enemy
into their hands. This shows that Deborah is thought to represent the will of God.
Rabbi Steinsaltz notes that the phenomenon of prophetesses in the history of nations is usually
relegated to women who are outside the circle of life (e.g. hermitesses, or virgins dedicated to this
specific role) (Shapira 28). Deborah, however, is an exception. Although she is a prophetess, she is
also relevant in society, and fulfills multiple roles. She successfully leads the charge

The Pros And Cons Of Age Discrimination
To critically and comprehensively address this case, it is convincingly important to assess the laws
that forbids age discrimination and wrongful termination in workplace. Under the law, age
discrimination can involve treating an employee or applicant less favorably because of her or his
age. In accordance to the Age Discriminationin Employment Act, it is unlawful to discriminate an
employee on basis their age. The law is categorically clear that an employer not discriminate
individuals who are 40 years old and above (Walsh, 2013). It should be noted that the Act provide
for protection for the people/workers below 40 years. However, some states in the United States
have laws in place that protect young employees against age discrimination. It is unlawful or illegal
for employers or any other entity to consider hiring/favoring an older worker over the younger one.
This withstands even if both employees are 40 and above. The law strongly prohibits age
discrimination in any aspect of employment including firing, hiring, pay, promotions, job
assignments, trainings, layoffs, benefits, and any other condition or term of employment.
The law also strongly (and word strongly should be emphasized here) prohibits against harassment
of a worker basing on her or his age. Harassment can range from derogatory or offensive remarks
about an individual age to promotion denial. Nevertheless, the law does not prohibit offhand
comments, simple teasing, isolated incidents that are not serious.

City Expansion In Medieval Europe
An inhabited bridge is defined according to Jean Dethier in Inhabited Bridges, past, present and
future, An interview with Jean Dethier , in Living Bridges (1996) as follows: Definition of
Inhabited Bridges: An inhabited Bridge in addition to its primary function of surmounting natural
or man made obstacles, be they rivers or canals, railways or motorways serves as an organic link
between two urban areas by connecting them to each other with a development of buildings
erected on the bridge deck to form permanent accommodation for various social and economic
activities. Thus, every inhabited bridge consists of two elements: the platform that spans the
obstacle and an architectural superstructure. In contrasts to a purely vehicular bridge, the
inhabited bridge provides a continuity within the urban fabric that is not only social and
economic but also cultural, emotional and symbolic at a point where a natural break would
otherwise exist. Indeed, it is both seductive and functional. Inhabited bridges are believed to have
emerged as a spontaneous occupation of bridges in response to a growing demand of building
land in cities and towns which were limited by defensive walls in Medieval Europe.
Geographically, it seems... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

towns in medieval Europe were often located alongside riverbanks since water was a main part
of life. They were also surrounded by walls as a means of defense, limiting by consequence the
building land. As the city grew, so did the demand for land. When the pressure became
unbearable, the city would create new defensive walls to englobe the new peripheric buildings.
One of the most compelling evidence is Paris: the city saw its walls expand six times between the

Definition Of Self Regulation Assignment
Self regulation Assignment Manjunath Bhat McMaster University Under the principle of
universality, the standardization of nursing care across the country is important to maintain inter
professional equality and compatibility. This can be achieved by regulating nursing practice
through inter professional collaboration, communication, professional conduct, accountability and
mutual respect (Benton, GonzГЎlez Jurado Beneit Montesinos, 2013). Self regulation assignment
is a tool developed by College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) to promote safe, competent and ethical
nursing care in Ontario. It will assist nurses with professional practice and help them understand the
expectation of entry level practice. It will also ensure that nurses are able to demonstrate the
competencies through Quality Assurance (QA) program (Colleges of Nurses of Ontario, 2014a).
The College regulates the nursing practice through the quality assurance program which has two
parts: self assessment and practice assessment. The purpose of self assessment is to identify
learning needs and develop a learning plan using SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Attainable,
Reliable and Time bound) to meet those learning needs. Through the practice assessment, CNO
regulates the nursing practice by selecting few nurses to participate in the assessment every year.

The Political Economy Of New Zealand
Introduction
New Zealand is a very stable economy, which majorly relies of international trade. Castles, Miller
Ammendola (2005, p. 215) argues that, the country has a market economy, and as a result, it has
been able to interact with several countries through trade. The country s political economy has been
enhanced and made stable through various strategic factors it possesses. These factors of its
political economy are in three dimensional systems: economic system, the political system and
lastly the legal system. The three systems work hand in hand with each other through various
interrelations that have made New Zealand s political economy stronger thus managing to attract

This FDI in turn boosts a country s political economy a great deal.
Political systems can be defined as a combination of the government of a given country and
politics in that country (Lall Narula 2004, p. 461). This system plays a bigger role in shaping a
country s political economy. However, it does not work independently; it correlates with economic
and legal systems for effective and efficient functioning. Politics and the government are both
composed of politicians. Among these politicians, there are those who are in government and those
who are not, thus these create stress on the economy. It is because both those who are in
government and those who are not are influential to the country. New Zealand s political economy
has various strategic factors which attracts FDI.
Firstly, New Zealand has a stable political system. This stability ensures a safer and secure
business environment. In addition, the fact that New Zealand is a market economy, it has
managed to attract foreign investors from other countries to invest in it because they are assured
of safety. Bernard Jensen (2004, p. 562) says that, there are no political fights and chaos which
destruct peoples businesses due to a high security which is enhanced. Globally, New Zealand is

Over the past decade, cloud streaming has made its way into consumer s lives. These cloud
services allow users to access music from a central database via a website. Users can access this
music for free. But only as long as they are connected to the internet. Consumers may also choose to
purchase a subscription to these sites which eliminates advertisements and allows unlimited

has made such a sizeable impact that Billboard has created a chart for streamed music.
Cloud streaming services provide access through subscriptions which are often paid. Meanwhile
piracy offers users free and unlimited access to all music without any limitations. Almost all
consumers of pirated music claim that the practice of piracy does not hurt the music industry at all.
The book Moser on Music Copyright (2006) argues that piracy does in fact hurt the music

The Value Of The Jaguar Essay
The jaguar is a highly known animal with notable affiliation in the Pre Columbian
Mesoamerican societies and belief systems. All major Mesoamerican cultures proudly presented
a jaguar god. Jaguars are known for their power and aggressive strength. They are great hunters
and one of the big cats that can tolerate water. Most information that is known about Mayan
culture and Mesoamerican societies comes from the countless and scrupulous findings on stone
monuments, murals, documents, adorned vases, and conventional sources, where we can
survey that the Maya carried out religious exercises with most of these objects. This is evident of
the Mayan jaguar lidded vessel from the Fresno Art Museum. Vessels are vases that were used
not for just funerary purposes, but also for rituals, offerings, and a plethora of other daily
activities. Other important details about jaguar symbolism in Mesoamerican cultures include the
fact that the word for jaguar, bahlam, appears in many of the names of Mayan kings than any
other animals. This is not surprising since the jaguar is the mighty emperor of crafty force.
Andrea Stone and Marc Zender state in their book, Reading Maya Art: A Hieroglyphic Guide to
Ancient Maya Paintings and Sculptures, that, The jaguars ferocity made it an ideal insignia of

Summary Of When David Gets A Concentration Camp
Why should you read this? In this book it shows how a young boy can do things that you wouldn
t think a boy could do. For example David escapes a concentration camp without any parents. He
is told by a man to go to a place called Denmark. David starts his journey. While David is on his
journey he realizes that he cannot do this on his own. So he turns to the God of the green pastures.
You may not realize it but as David goes on his journey his faith starts to grow. It is a great book for
children and even adults!
My favourite part: My favourite part in this book was when David gets himself painted by the
Danish lady Sophie Bang. When David s portrait is painted he is invited to her house for dinner.
There he learns that Demark is a free country. He also learns about a Woman there who had been in
a concentration camp but got ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He liked to be on his own and be his own leader. He was very adventures.
Sophie Bang: A Danish lady who had fair hair and grey eyes she was not pretty or good looking she
looked really intelligent. Sophie was friends with David s mother and she liked to paint.
Synopsis:
David laid in the concentration camp listening to the sound of the men. A man told David that he
must leave the camp and head to Denmark. David listened to the man and escaped the
consecration camp. David ran as far away as he could from the camp. David would run at night
and sleep in the day. David stumbles on some soup and bread and decides to take some. David
hides in a delivery van and gets a ride. While David is in the van he thinks he hears his old friend
Johannes who died from a heart attack. David gets a ride on a boat. The man on the boat gave
David a life belt and threw him out the ship. David was in the water for several hours. When
David finally got to the shore he sees the beauty of the country and he cries. David then chooses
that he does not want to die but

Angela Davis And The Civil Rights Movement
Angela Davis is one of the most influential women when it comes to feminism, race, politics, to
just name a few. She has paved the way for many generations of women to have a voice when they
once wouldn t. It is essential to realize that one can t discuss feminism and black power without
discussing Angela Davis. The reason I chose Angela Davis is because she is a household name that
I have always heard, but had never known much of. I think it s deeply important to understand the
impact she s had on the feminist movement, specifically for women of color.
Angela Yvonne Davis was born in Birmingham, Alabama on January 26, 1944 to Sallye Davis and
Frank Davis. Sallye was a elementary school teacher who was faithfully involved in the civil ...

( Davis, Angela 1944 .) In her early years she was exposed to activism through her mother, Sallye
Davis, she was involved with the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People
(NAACP), at a time in which it was very dangerous to do so. Her mother was also heavily
involved with the Communist Party, she was involved in the civil right s movement and was an
organizer for the Southern Negro Congress. Since she grew up around such a heavy influence of
Communist ideals, Davis developed a mindset geared towards equal rights at a very young age.
Davis views started coming through in her academics at a very young age as well, in high school
Davis did everything she could to start to an interracial study group, the group was harassed, and
then disbanded by the police. Eventually Davis would go onto start herself a legacy that is greatly
inspired by her mother. She would join the Black Panther Party after a horrible tragedy.
In 1963, four black girls were killed in a bombing of a church, the bombing took place in her
hometown and it became known as the 16th Street Baptist Church Bombing. This sparked a
passion in Davis for philosophy because she was personally affected by the bombing, she knew two
of the people killed in it. As a result of this tragedy she joined the Student Nonviolent Coordinating
Committee and then the Black Panther Party.

Transpersonal Psychology
What has fueled my interest in transpersonal psychology is the concept of guiding people through
the discovery of finding balance in their lives, encompassing mind, body, and spirit. I am
captivated by Taoism philosophy, which holds many similarities to transpersonal psychology. It is
through the discovery and work of the whole person, leaving no parts left out that I believe joins
the two beliefs. Staying true to all aspects of yourself while reaching out and connecting with others
is the key to being to finding happiness.
My responsibility as a counselor for many years has afforded me the opportunity of working with
students and helping them explore their journey through life. High school guidance counselors, like
therapists, work with a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was an opportunity to reach into unchartered territories of the mind for unanswered questions and
thoughts about ourselves to achieve better self awareness. Combining the three aspects of mind,
body and spirit to find inner peace brings to mind a natural approach. Choosing to work in the area
of transpersonal psychology would include work on health, development, human potential, empathy,
inner meaning, purpose and more of life s experiences within all of us.
I have learned about the humanistic theories and have come to appreciate its emphasis on the
growth and potential of the human being. The focus is on how people come to a state of being by
working with the healthy side of themselves. Much like the humanistic theories, transpersonal
psychology s view is the focus on people s potential for healthy personal growth. Transpersonal
psychology like the humanistic psychology tends to focus on the positive side of psychology.
Positive self concept, acceptance and empathy towards others are all that lead me towards the study
of transpersonal

How Did Amelia Earhart Gain Her Greatest Accomplishments
This article discusses how Amelia Earhart gained her greatest accomplishments. At 10 years old,
she notices an airplane flying high in the sky for the first time at the state fair, but wasn t
seriously interested in flying until she attended a stunt flying exhibition 10 years later. The
moment that changed her life forever was riding in an airplane alongside Pilot Frank Hawks on
December 28, 1920. Earhart commented on that moment in her life saying, By the time I had
got two or three hundred feet off the ground, I knew I had to fly. Consequently, Amelia took her
first flying lesson on January 3, 1921, and bought her first plane, the Canary , six months later.
She set many records such as her first women s record of an altitude 14,000 feet using the
Canary , the first woman to fly across the Atlantic as a passenger, placing third place at the
Cleveland Women s Air Derby, the first woman and second person to fly solo across the Atlantic,
an altitude record for autogyros of 18,415 feet, the first person to fly solo across the Pacific, and the
first to solo from Mexico City to Newark. However, Amelia Earhartis mostly known for her
attempt to fly across the world, as well as, her disappearance. On July 2, Earhart and her navigator,
Fred Noonan, departed from New Guinea towards their next location in their around the world trip,
Howland Island. However, during the journey towards Howland Island, the transmissions to and
from the plane couldn t be heard clearly with the last

The Game of Life Essay
THE GAME OF LIFE
This exhibit is an attempt to reflect the beliefs, values and attitudes that I as an individual
strongly embrace at this present time of my life. My beliefs, values and attitudes have been
modified and evolved from experiences and interactions with family, school, friends and religion
as my life has progressed. I felt the best way to portray these influences in a simplistic yet
understandable manner was to clearly arrange them in the corners of a board. The centrepiece of
this exhibit is the Chinese chessboard because it symbolises the journey I have taken till this
present stage in life and also my Chinese heritage. The simplicity of this exhibit may seem
somewhat unappealing but each and every feature which is ... Show more content on

Life however did not seem fair for them as they soon had to endure yet another battle against
communism. Again, the haunting nightmare of escaping the shadow of death appeared before
their eyes. Ships arrived from Taiwan and were ready to take on passengers. They departed in a
small 67 metre Taiwanese ship, which had a total of 2300 passengers on board. My family had
become Vietnamese boat people and had to face terrible hardship before arriving to Australia.
They had to suffer two years of living in a ship without adequate food and escape from pirates in
the middle of the ocean. Adults and children were dying on the ship because of malnutrition. Life
was hanging by a piece of thread but because of the support and spirit of each other; they survived
through the unutterable trauma which subsequently reinforced their relationship. Their experience
has profoundly ingrained itself in me, allowing me to realise how special it is to have my family
safe and close to me. These experiences which show endurance, courage and bravery, have directly
affected the values, attitudes and beliefs which I now maintain as they allow me to understand the
importance of my family as being something irreplaceable and invaluable. I value my family
beyond anything else in the world and will continue to sustain this belief.
My parents as well as my extended family have been crucial in providing the foundation for my
beliefs, attitudes and values. I grew up

The Problem Of Eating Disorder Recovery
Maria and Katy Campbell were 11 years old when they overheard their father say to their mother,
Gosh, those girls are becoming young women, aren t they? They re getting hips. Devastated by
the seemingly normal remark a father would make of his preteen daughters, the twins made a pact
that night to help each other lose their hips , and lose their hips they did. For the 22 years that
would follow both women would advance their education to receive their doctorate degrees, and try
to live somewhat normal lives all while weighing less than 84 pounds and suffering in and out of
eating disorder recovery clinics. At 33, both women are hopeful that they will someday recover;
however, due to the societal misunderstanding that those with eating... Show more content on

Bulimia nervosa is an eating disorder distinguished by its psychological, physiological,
developmental, and social components. The disorder is characterized by binge eating shortly
followed by harmful compensatory behaviors, such as abuse of laxatives, diuretics or enemas,
stimulants, vomiting, fasting, or excessive exercise. This is known as the Binge Purge Cycle .
Unlike anorexia nervosa, those with bulimia nervosa fall within a normal or slightly overweight
weight range and usually perform their eating disordered behaviors in secret due to the severe
feelings of shame and disgust which accompany the binge purge cycle. Due to the intensity of the
combined mental and physical assault bulimia has on the body, complications of bulimia can stay
with a patient long after recovery is achieved. Such complications include, but are not limited to:
Decaying tooth enamel (tooth rot) due to the stomach acid constantly eroding the protective
layering on the teeth; those who have suffered from this eating disorder for more than seven years
(the average time of recovery for those with bulimia nervosa) have a great likelihood of rupturing
either their stomach or

  • 3. Police And Criminal Evidence Act create an understanding and response to this statement, I will first explain the legislation that police have to abide by when it comes to the treatment and rights of a suspect before they have turned into the defendant . This will have a main focus on Code A and Code C within the Police and Criminal Evidence Act (PACE) 1984 and parts of the Criminal Justiceand Public Order Act (CJPOA) 1994. I will then address the two models of criminal process created by H. Packer; these models both have different values and create a debate on whether the rights of the defendant should be protected rather than the victim. The Human RightsAct 1998 will then be used to show that it can be used to help terrorists stay in the United Kingdom. To conclude I will give my opinion on the statement and explain how the research I have found backs it up. In the 1970s there was a debate in the treatment and evidence collected about the arrest of suspects in conjunction with the bombings of Birmingham and Guildford. This then caused the Home Secretary to appoint a Royal Commission on Criminal Procedure (RCCP), which later helped introduce the Police and Criminal Evidence Act (PACE) 1984 (Newburn, 2003, p.93). PACE sets out the powers that police have to stop and search, arrest and how they should treat suspects when they are detained and questioned. It aims to protect the rights of individuals (PACE, 1984). Under code A of PACE, the police need reasonable grounds for suspicion to stop and search a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

After this people began to think that scientists would try cloning humans. The technology and the funds are not there for those advances. Also, in some countries it is not legal to do so. The next step was to clone extinct animals. This is also known as de extinction. When evaluating the dilemmas that can come with cloningextinct animals, the person must look at the purpose of the animal and what it could do today for us, the reason as to why it had became extinct and how to prevent that again, and lastly the concept that if we had the animals, and we put them back, and the world wasn t ready. Others like the passenger pigeon, Chinese river dolphin, wooly mammoth, and Tasmanian tiger are on the list of interest to begin working with their DNA. Scientist would like to bring species back like these and do not plan to waste any time on others like the T rex who has been gone for about 65 million years. First, the T rex is not needed in our present ecosystem. Secondly, we do not have a living species that could lay an egg at that size. Their plan is to not recreated Jurassic Park, the movie but to revive the species we have harm to possibly help the environment. Many of the species that have already become extinct have made impacts on our living species to the point that they are declining. Twenty Years at Hull-House Essay Twenty Years at Hull House Two Works Cited Victoria Bissell Brown s introduction to Twenty Years at Hull House explains the life of Jane Addams and her commitment to insight social change to problems that existed during the turn of the 20th century. As a reaction to the hardships of a changing industrial society, Addams decided to establish a settlement house in the West side of Chicago to help individuals who had suffered from the cruelties of industrialization. Rejecting the philosophies that stemmed from the Gilded Age, such as social Darwinism and the belief that human affairs were determined by natural law, Addams was a progressive who wanted government to be more responsive to the people.... The one question I found most interesting is, Can white, native born, economically secure Americans ever really understand, much less help, those who are struggling to survive? (1). Much of the prevalent political culture emphasized Aryan superiority, as well as the concern a changing society would suffer from massive immigration. Even authors, such as Charlotte Perkins Gilman, recognized the oppression she suffered from as a woman. However, she did not recognize the oppression others suffered in her embracing of anti immigration as well as racist beliefs. Reactionary to the massive immigration of this time, Charlotte Perkins Gilman also supported eugenics to improve the human race. Yet Addams did not argue immigrants were inferior to the Aryan people. In fact, three quarters of her residents at Hull House were first and second generation immigrants. Not only was Addams sympathetic to the poor, but she also was sympathetic to the plight of immigrants. I find Jane Addams s commitment to social change extraordinary. To answer the question stated previously, I would say, Yes, because Jane Addams was not under any pressure or obligation to help the poor, especially at a time when the dominant belief was ... Self Realization in Yeats An Irish Airman Foresees His Death An Irish Airman Foresees His Death was written by William Butler Yeats in memory of Major Robert Gregory who was killed in action on January 23, 1918 while fighting on the Italian front during World War I (Ellmann and O Clair, fn. 154). Yeatswas close with the Gregory family, but particularly with Lady Gregory due to their partnership in establishing the Irish National Theatre. Although Major Gregory is never explicitly mentioned in this poem, it is a commonly held belief that the airman in the poem is supposed to be him (Stock 118). The airman is not affected by this propaganda, though, as he claims that Nor law, nor duty bade me fight, / Nor public men, nor cheering crowds (9 10). He is of the opinion that, no matter what way the war turns out, his people will not be affected too much one way or the other. This feeling is expressed when he says, My country is Kiltartan Cross, / My countrymen Kiltartan s poor, / No likely end could bring them loss / Or leave them happier than before (5 8). The Irish airman does not enter the war hoping to bring about any significant change for his own people. In many ways, he is very aloof and separates himself from the whole situation. A. G. Stock agrees with this interpretation, saying that the airman...is presented as a type: he is Robert Gregory, but also he stands for the lonely aloofness which was part of Yeats ideal (118 119). The airman does not seem to care about the politics behind the war. He seems to enter the war on a whim, out of desire to do something exciting and reckless with his life. He is going to fight in the war in order to prove to himself that he can do it. He says that it was A lonely impulse of delight / Drove to this tumult in the clouds (11 12). Criminal and Civil Law in the English Legal System Essay One of the main differences between criminal cases and civil cases is that they are held in different courts, this is because there is a significant distinction between a civil wrong and a criminal wrong. Crimes are considered to be a type of wrongdoing, however civil wrongs tend to have only an impact on the parties involved in the case. For example: a breach of contract. Where as criminal wrongs tend to have an impact on society itself. For example: a murder, theft or rape. Criminal law is dealt with in the Magistrates court and if very serious in the Crown court. Magistrates also determine, subject to appeal, whether the defendant should be kept in custody pending trial. Magistrates can impose conditions to meet their concerns about granting bail. Courts have limited information on which to base bail decisions, with the exception of experimental bail information schemes involving the probation service. Normally prosecutors and sometimes defence lawyers make representations as to whether bail should be granted or not. There is a high degree of correlation between prosecutors representations and magistrates decisions. One problem the society has with magistrates is that sections of the community are underrepresented in the lay magistracy. The lay magistracy remains predominately white, middle aged, middle class and conservative. The other court of trial for a criminal case is the Crown Court. Indictable offences like murder can only be dealt with in this court and also triable offences for example, all theft cases. An accused has the absolute right of trial in the Crown Court but if he/she elects summary trial the magistrates may decline to hear the case. The different factions thus created their own definitions of what being civilised, being a Briton and being a faithful subject of the Empire meant. They easily diffuse across cell membranes, and once they are inside, they bind to estrogen receptors to control many genes and their expressions. In human women, there are three types of estrogen: estradiol, which is the dominant form of estrogen in women who are not pregnant, estrone, which is produced during menopause, and estriol, which is found in pregnant women. Both groups were then exposed for another 24 hours to etoposide, a drug used in chemotherapy that promotes apoptosis. The results of this test showed that caspase 3 activity decreased in cells treated with estrogen, but increased in cells not treated with estrogen. This supports the hypothesis that estradiol does have an effect on apoptosis in bone cells, and that without it, cell death will increase and bone density will diminish. In addition to its effects on bone health, estrogen also has a huge effect on the cardiovascular system. Studies have shown that it increases the levels of HDL, or good cholesterol, decreases the levels of LDL, or bad cholesterol, and relaxes and dilates blood vessels so that blood flow will increase. There is also evidence that estrogens contribute to the maintenance of the health of the endothelium, or the lining of the blood vessels, thus further protecting the cardiovascular system from plaque and heart disease. With menopause, estradiol levels drop, and so these effects on the heart and blood vessels are lowered, giving postmenopausal women a higher risk of heart disease than premenopausal women. A study done by Kim and Levin in 2006 at the University of California states that 17 beta estradiol typically has a protective property on the cardiovascular system, and that it decreases the amount of cell death in cardiomyocytes, or heart muscle cells. • 23. Analysis Of Harper Lee s Kill A Mocking Bird Essay Rough Draft When people think about the Southern United states during the twentieth century they often think about the racism and prejudice that engulfed it. However, it is important to realize that this intolerance and hatred was perpetuated not by the majority of people, but by a loud spoken and violent minority. This concept is one of considerable emphasis in To Kill a Mocking Bird and comparably in contemporary issues unfolding right now in Syria and Afghanistan, whereby the masses stand idle, in morbid fear of a radical minority. The same concept applies to Harper Lee s novel, for every character who demonstrates prejudice, keeping people outside the community, there is another character, if not more, who act as community builders. The conflict between Bob Ewell and Atticus, Calpurnia, and even women and children in general, all demonstrate how the matter of prejudice and racism was one of stark division at the time. While many characters demonstrate prejudice in the novel, Calpurnia is a significant example of someone who acted as a community builder. When she took Jem and Scout to the black church, on the outskirts of Maycomb, she did so in defiance of the practice of segregation imposed by the Jim Crow laws. This act called for the government to regulate in the public interest and foreign communications by radio and wire. The FCC can be traced back to the Wireless Ship Act of 1910. The Wireless Ship Act of 1910 required large ships to have wireless equipment and radio operators on board...made it illegal not to retransmit or answer wireless transmissions from ships. This law was the first U.S. regulation on devices that used electromagnetic spectrum. The Chain Broadcasting Rules, was the first national ownership limit passed by the FCC in 1941. These rules regulated major national radio networks, in relation to local stations. These regulations also included a structural ownership rule limiting a radio network from owning more than one broadcast station within a market area, reflecting the Commission s earlier presumption that a single entity holding more than one broadcast license in the same community contravened the public interest. This idea was upheld in the Supreme Court ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In Studies in Paul s Letter to the Philippians , Hans Dieter Betz scrutinizes five segments from the letter to the Philippians to examine scholastic interpretations and to suggest a new interpretation regarding its literary genre as preparation for death(praemeditatio mortis). Especially he critically engages to Lohmeyer s criticism on Philippians, affirming that Lohmeyer s interpretation on the Philippians which reads the epistle as deutero Pauline and from the second century era. However Betz criticizes Lohmeyer s interpretation of Philippians as the polemic of Martyrs. He points out that regardless of vivid and impressive ideas about Martyrdom in the letter(p. 17), connecting his personal affliction to Philippian martyrdom is too subjective to validate. Betz clearly demonstrates the difficulty of accessing to the original manuscripts of the text(Volagen) through textual criticismand literary criticism due to the additional redactions. By representing the uncertainty of the original text, he emphasizes the variance of the text manuscripts and highlights the importance of textual criticism and comparative studies to read ... • 26. Exploring The Roots Of The Recurring Subjects And Symbols... After nearly two centuries completely lacking in images, early Christians finally developed a pictorial language to express their faith. The conventions developed early on would come to define the middle ages, an entire era of almost exclusively Christian images. Early Christians adopted classical conventions for their art, which would serve an opposing purpose for outsiders and initiates. For outsiders, the symbols meant no harm. But to followers of the faith, the images are loaded with meaning. The meaning inherent in the history of the symbol, when combined with a biblical context, creates a full and multi faceted iconographic tradition. The purpose of this paper is to explore the roots of the recurring subjects and symbols evident in the funerary paintings in Catacombs of Domitilla in Rome. Funerary paintings and sculpture provide the most thorough evidence of early Christian art. An exceptional visual tradition has been preserved in the vast network of underground burial systems: the Roman catacombs. One of the most extensive of these is the Catacomb of Domitilla. Beginning in the third century CE, the Catacombs of Domitilla housed thousands of bodies from families rich and poor, and extended for over seventeen kilometers in four distinct subterranean levels. In terms of style, most of the works are indistinguishable from Roman paintings. If anything, the art style is a more rushed and cramped version of illusionistic Roman wall painting. The use of iconography is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Summary Of This Is Water By David Foster Wallace There have two pieces of the article I recently read about, which is This is water by David Foster Wallace, and Letter to a young poet by Rainer Maria Rilke. I will be discussing the contrast between this two article and tell the audience what they were precisely thinking about life. For Wallace, he passed commencement speech to share the advice to people who hear at a college graduation. In his speech, he delivered the reality of how a typical adult life goes. His statement also talked about decision making, and how all choices will impact our future growth. On the other hand, Rilke conveys his ideas by wrote the letter to one military student who called Kappus. In Rilke s letters, I mostly focus on letter eight, because he pays attention to solitude and how it is essential to be a real artist. There is only through solitude that he will learn personal truths and he told Kappus to need to trust own feelings and to face what is difficult. Ralike talked about solitude in letter eight. As I grow older, I gradually understand that everything is not going smoothly, it is hard. There have many things you cannot be avoided, such as solitude. Nowadays, solitude already become a regular phenomenon in our daily life, for example, when I walk on the street, I always saw a person walk alone, eats alone, go shopping alone, or even goes to concerts alone. However, when an idea is presented as a fact, it is outrageous, nothing is completely definite and everything is basically a theory. Marija Gimbutas was very passionate about the Goddess, in The Living Goddess, she says, The role of the father in prehistoric antiquity was either not fully understood or not as highly valued as that of the mother, (112). Nevertheless, the way that she presented her argument was not convincing. Gimbutas acted as though she knew the history of a civilization just by looking at the artifacts she found, she used her own research as her evidence to support her claims, and lastly she is guilty of letting her own ideas cloud her judgment. Throughout her work, Gimbutas appears to be omniscient claiming to know that there was a civilization in Old Europe that was matrifocal, peaceful and offered its citizens a higher quality of life. She paves the road for her peaceful utopia by defining the word civilization through the eyes of an archeologist, Historians have assumed that civilization implies a hierarchical political and religious organization, warfare, a class stratification, and a complex division of labor, (Gimbutas, The Civilization viii). Once she introduced the barbaric society that revolved around males she contrasts this by saying that gynocentric cultures did not revolve around petty superficial things that mattered in a patriarchal society (Gimbutas, The ... Analysis of Women in the Book of Judges Essay When interpreting the Hebrew Bible from a feminist perspective, many are quick to decry the subjugation of women at the hands of men and the lack of female representation in dominant roles in biblical literature. However, although some women are objectified or possibly marginalized, this claim of inequality does not always hold true. Especially in the book of Judges, women are not discarded as characters and are not wholly unappreciated. In fact, the book of Judges features many strong female characters who serve in significant roles, and who are effectively portrayed as leaders, heroes, and capable, resourceful individuals. An excellent example of an influential woman in Judges is Deborah. From the beginning, Deborah is identified... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is even Deborah herself who gives the call to charge against Sisera s army, while Barak and his soldiers comply. In Judges 5, commonly referred to as the Song of Deborah , praises are sung in honor of this female military leader, who acts as a mother in Israel. Some scholars have even noted parallels drawn between Deborah and the Canaanite war goddess, Anat (Ackerman 177). Additionally, Deborah is respected as a religious figure. For example, Barak refuses to go to war without Deborah by his side. According to Jo Ann Hackett, Barak s refusal to fight without the presence of Deborah is not indicative of his ineptitude or of her military prowess. Rather, Hackett proposes that Barak requests Deborah s participation because, as a prophetess and as a leader chosen by the Lord, her presence indicates divine support (Hackett 357). If Deborah were visible to the Israelite soldiers, morale would be lifted with the thought that the Lord would deliver the enemy into their hands. This shows that Deborah is thought to represent the will of God. Rabbi Steinsaltz notes that the phenomenon of prophetesses in the history of nations is usually relegated to women who are outside the circle of life (e.g. hermitesses, or virgins dedicated to this specific role) (Shapira 28). Deborah, however, is an exception. Although she is a prophetess, she is also relevant in society, and fulfills multiple roles. She successfully leads the charge ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Pros And Cons Of Age Discrimination To critically and comprehensively address this case, it is convincingly important to assess the laws that forbids age discrimination and wrongful termination in workplace. Under the law, age discrimination can involve treating an employee or applicant less favorably because of her or his age. In accordance to the Age Discriminationin Employment Act, it is unlawful to discriminate an employee on basis their age. The law is categorically clear that an employer not discriminate individuals who are 40 years old and above (Walsh, 2013). It should be noted that the Act provide for protection for the people/workers below 40 years. However, some states in the United States have laws in place that protect young employees against age discrimination. It is unlawful or illegal for employers or any other entity to consider hiring/favoring an older worker over the younger one. This withstands even if both employees are 40 and above. The law strongly prohibits age discrimination in any aspect of employment including firing, hiring, pay, promotions, job assignments, trainings, layoffs, benefits, and any other condition or term of employment. The law also strongly (and word strongly should be emphasized here) prohibits against harassment of a worker basing on her or his age. • 36. City Expansion In Medieval Europe An inhabited bridge is defined according to Jean Dethier in Inhabited Bridges, past, present and future, An interview with Jean Dethier , in Living Bridges (1996) as follows: Definition of Inhabited Bridges: An inhabited Bridge in addition to its primary function of surmounting natural or man made obstacles, be they rivers or canals, railways or motorways serves as an organic link between two urban areas by connecting them to each other with a development of buildings erected on the bridge deck to form permanent accommodation for various social and economic activities. Thus, every inhabited bridge consists of two elements: the platform that spans the obstacle and an architectural superstructure. In contrasts to a purely vehicular bridge, the inhabited bridge provides a continuity within the urban fabric that is not only social and economic but also cultural, emotional and symbolic at a point where a natural break would otherwise exist. Indeed, it is both seductive and functional. All major Mesoamerican cultures proudly presented a jaguar god. Jaguars are known for their power and aggressive strength. They are great hunters and one of the big cats that can tolerate water. Most information that is known about Mayan culture and Mesoamerican societies comes from the countless and scrupulous findings on stone monuments, murals, documents, adorned vases, and conventional sources, where we can survey that the Maya carried out religious exercises with most of these objects. This is evident of the Mayan jaguar lidded vessel from the Fresno Art Museum. Vessels are vases that were used not for just funerary purposes, but also for rituals, offerings, and a plethora of other daily activities. Other important details about jaguar symbolism in Mesoamerican cultures include the fact that the word for jaguar, bahlam, appears in many of the names of Mayan kings than any other animals. • 46. The Game of Life Essay THE GAME OF LIFE This exhibit is an attempt to reflect the beliefs, values and attitudes that I as an individual strongly embrace at this present time of my life. My beliefs, values and attitudes have been modified and evolved from experiences and interactions with family, school, friends and religion as my life has progressed. I felt the best way to portray these influences in a simplistic yet understandable manner was to clearly arrange them in the corners of a board. The centrepiece of this exhibit is the Chinese chessboard because it symbolises the journey I have taken till this present stage in life and also my Chinese heritage. The simplicity of this exhibit may seem somewhat unappealing but each and every feature which is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I value my family beyond anything else in the world and will continue to sustain this belief. My parents as well as my extended family have been crucial in providing the foundation for my beliefs, attitudes and values. I grew up ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For the 22 years that would follow both women would advance their education to receive their doctorate degrees, and try to live somewhat normal lives all while weighing less than 84 pounds and suffering in and out of eating disorder recovery clinics. The disorder is characterized by binge eating shortly followed by harmful compensatory behaviors, such as abuse of laxatives, diuretics or enemas, stimulants, vomiting, fasting, or excessive exercise. This is known as the Binge Purge Cycle . Unlike anorexia nervosa, those with bulimia nervosa fall within a normal or slightly overweight weight range and usually perform their eating disordered behaviors in secret due to the severe feelings of shame and disgust which accompany the binge purge cycle.
