Building Regulations
Unit: Building Regulations and Control in Construction
Title: The origins and purpose of building control
Pass 1
UK Building Regulations:
The first building control legislation in England dates back to the Great Fire of London in 1666.
The reasons why it spread out so quickly were the proximity of the timber buildings. The
government of the day realised this and introduced by laws to try to prevent it from happening
again. So in 1667 they introduced the London Building Act. However it was not until 1774 that the
District Surveyors in London were appointed to enforce these laws.
Around this time due to the Industrial Revolution other towns were rapidly expanding and they
started to experience similar problems that London had ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

have agreed to high emissions targets; e.g. Germany and Denmark 21% * Some less advanced
countries are allowed to increase emissions: e.g. Greece +25%, Spain +15%, Ireland +13% * The
large developing countries, especially China, India and Brazil, took part in the discussions but were
not expected to have reduction targets.

Values Ethics Case 1 Essay
Annet David Professor Koob Case 1 Massey Energy 1. What were the costs and benefits to
stakeholders of the actions taken by Massey Energy and its managers? The stakeholders include
everyone from Don Blankenship all the way down to the employees who were treated badly by
Massey and their higher ups. Don Blankenship had a few more benefits than costs in regards to
his company. He accrued $129 million over his 10 year stint as CEO of Massey Energy while also
maintaining a power over others beneath him. He cost himself his reputation within his community
and his employees. Massey s employees barely had any benefits other than a relatively well paying
job to support their families, otherwise the list of costs that occurred to the employees... Show more

3. Who or what caused the Upper Big Branch mine disaster, and why do you think so? The
immediate cause of the disaster is the result of a poorly maintained longwall shearer that sent a
spark which could not be extinguished because of inoperative water sprayers. This spark ignited
a pocket of methane gas that accumulated at the coal face over the course of a year because of
poor ventilation. This resulted in an explosion that fireballed throughout the mine because of the
accumulation of flammable coal dust that was not properly treated with rock dust as instructed by
the MSHA. Although this was the immediate and most detrimental cause of the disaster, I believe
Don Blankenship was largely responsible for the disaster. For almost twenty years, Blankenship
had near total control over Massey Coal Company, and later Massey Energy. During this time, he
had decisive impact over the culture, policies, and practices of the company. He directed a
management system that gave priority to productivity, which was running coal, over all other
concerns, including environmental impacts, worker health and safety, and legal compliance. As a
hands on manager, he was completely and fully aware of everything that was going on in the
company, all the way down to the last tank of gasoline or ton of coal. Therefore, he should bear the
ultimate responsibility for the Upper Big Branch mine disaster. 4. What steps could be taken now to

Valium Abuse Prescription Drug
Valium is a medicine commonly used for treatment of various degrees of anxiety, but it is also one
of the most commonly abused prescription drugs. Valium has an interesting history, and is an
easily accessible drug, which makes it a commonly abused drug. People prescribed Valium, those
who use it for medicinal purposes only, will remain harmfree from the effects of drugabuse. Once a
person becomes addicted it is very hard for them to stop. There are multiple negative effects on
those who disuse and abuse Valium.
Valium, also known as diazepam, was created in 1960, by a scientist named Dr. Leo Sternbach,
and a type of benzodiazepine. The term benzodiazepine refers to a type of psychoactive drug that

For those addicted or going withdrawal, contacting Valium support groups, help hotlines, or
better yet, rehab, are the best ways for them to safely wean off of the depressant. An addict must
slowly take less and less Valium per hit in order to safely stop the drug. While an addict is going
through rehabilitation, he or she experience a variety of withdrawal symptoms, but it is lesser
than effects of ending the drug without being weaned. If the prescribed Valium was used safely or
a long period of time, patients weaned off of the drug experience a metallic taste in their mouths,
an increased heart rate, occasional vision blurs or momentary dizziness. These symptoms are both
for those addicts who abused the drug, and for patients prescribed the drug for prolonged time

Comparing Zeffirelli And Luhrmann s Film
In the two films of Romeo and Juliet, directors Zeffirelli and Luhrmann portray the party scene in
two very different ways. The directors change the way the characters act, the costumes they wear,
and the setting of the scene, to make each version of the party scene different and unique. By
changing the way that their characters act, directors Zeffirelli and Luhrmann show the differences
between their two films. In the Zeffirelli version of Romeo and Juliet, the characters of Romeo,
Juliet, and the other party guests are very polite and proper. When Romeo first meets Juliet in the
Zeffirelli adaptation of the play, they are both more innocent than the Romeo and Juliet portrayed in
Luhrmann s film. They seem slightly tentative at first, but then make their way around the room in

Mercutio is crazy, hyped up on drugs, as he dresses like a drag queen and becomes the life of the
party. Romeo takes some drugs as well, then meets Juliet, falling madly in love with her angelic
qualities. Romeo does not seem to truly love Juliet at first sight in the Luhrmann film as he does
in Zeffirelli s adaptation, but he still has a great time with her at Capulet s party. The costumes
portrayed in both versions of Romeo and Juliet differ depending on how the director wanted to
display the characters. In the Zeffirelli film, the characters are shown in very traditional attire,
with very distinguishable red and blue outfits worn by the Capulet and Montague families. Juliet
is wearing a beautiful red gown, making her stand out from the other plainly dressed guests at the
masquerade, and showing that she is affiliated with the Capulet family . Romeo, a Montague, is
dressed in blue with the mask of a lion, allowing him to stay hidden in the shadows of the room. In
the Luhrmann adaptation, the characters are placed in a costume party, where Juliet is dressed as
an angel, and Romeo as a knight in shining

Summary Of Death Of A Moth By Virginia Woolf
In ВЁThe Death of a MothВЁ by Virginia Woolf, Woolf writes about how she observes a mothВ
ґs
death. Throughout the essay Woolf had a complex attitude towards the moth. In order to establish
her depressing, hopeless, and desperate tone, she uses symbolism, imagery, juxtaposition, and
syntax. Virginia Woolf utilized imagery to make the reader comprehend that the mothВґs battle
with death was homogeneous to her battle with her bipolar tendencies and depression. In the fourth
paragraph, ВЁHe was trying to resume his dancing, but seemed either so stiff or so awkward.....and
when he tried to fly across it he failed,ВЁ Woolf illustrates the struggle of the moth. The moth
makes many attempts to fly again, but it unfortunately fails. This makes the reader

Analysis Of Flesh And Blood So Cheap By Albert Marin
FLESH AND BLOOD SO CHEAP ARGUMENTATIVE ESSAY Is your school or office
prepared for a fire if one ever did happen? Albert Marrin s text, Flesh and Blood so Cheap shows
a factory that was not prepared for the fire that was awaiting it. Marrin uses implicit and explicit
evidence to hint towards his overall theme that safety concerns should be a priority for business
owners. The Triangle Fire was a disaster, killing 146 people. There were ways in which it could
ve been prevented but those were overlooked. The fire couldn t ve been predicted, so safety was
not a priority. Marrin uses explicit and implicit evidence to develop his thesis along the way.
The explicit evidence is the easy one to find out of the two. Some of the explicit evidence Marrin
uses are the facts that there were no lights in the stairway and that the ninth floor exit was locked.
Since there were no lights in the stairway, people could ve tripped or fallen and then get run over
by the crowd. Also, since the ninth door exit was locked, people couldn t get out, leading to many
deaths on that floor. Those two examples are some of the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To find the implicit evidence, you really have to dig deep into the story. Some of the implicit
evidence that you can find in Marrin s text are right in front of your eyes such as in the title. The
so cheap part implies that the owners probably favored cost over safety. Additionally, there s a
part later in the story that explains how people couldn t open the doors because everyone was
pushing against them. That means that the doors opened inward and usually, for safety reasons, the
doors should open outward so that type of thing doesn t happen. That means that the owners didn t
take into consideration the escape route that their workers would use. Those details that I just gave
are some examples of implicit evidence that Marrin used in Flesh and Blood so

Determination Of Copper Sulphate Using Colorimetry Lab Report
Finding the concentration of an unknown sample of copper sulphate using colorimetry.
In this task the concentration of an unknown sample of copper sulphate using colorimetry was
used to find the concentration. In this investigation copper sulphate was used which is
CuSO4.5H20 as a formula. To make a standard solution which was 1M, the same clean equipment
was used to make up the standard solution as used to make sodium carbonate. However there was
one difference and that was that the hot distilled water was used to dissolve the copper sulphate
crystals. There had to be enough hot water in order to dissolve the crystals into the beaker and then
add cold distilled water to cool the solution.
After this, the solution was poured into a volumetric flask just about to the 1dm3 line and then it
was left there to cool to the same temperature as the room before filling precisely to the 1dm3
line with distilled water. The molar mass of CuSO4.5H20 was 249.5 so that means 249.5g of
copper sulphate was needed to dissolve, in order to make a standard solution, into 1dm3of distilled
water. Following this, a linear dilution of the CuSO4.5H2O was made in order to be used to make
a calibration curve after using the colorimeter to write down the absorbance of each sample. A
linear dilution is diluted with distilled water in order for it to make the concentration weaker and
weaker. For this investigation, the dilutions made ranged from 0.01 to 0.1 M/l . It was essential to
only make up 10cm3

According to the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy, affirmative action means positive steps
taken to increase the representation of women and minorities in areas of employment, education,
and business from which they have been historically excluded (Fullinwider, 2009). The following
paragraphs will discuss what employers are subject to affirmative action plans, what employers are

Private Child Support Essay
Private child support collection services become necessary in recent years. They are necessary
because of the many families that have had to go without court ordered child support payments.
The problem is that many parents fail to pay their child support payments on a regular basis.
These deadbeat parents may also take a variety of steps to get out of their financial responsibilities.
Those steps can make it difficult for government agencies to collect. The collection methods used
by the state may include placing liens on property, but these liens are not always effective. You Can

That said, interstate collections may not be easy for a state child support agency. A private
collection company with experience in interstate collections may be able to help. A Private
collection Agency Can Help Even if Child is Emancipated Emancipation can make it difficult for a
government agency to collect unpaid child support. For instance, some states may not collect child
support in a case with an emancipated child. In cases with emancipated children, the United States
Office of Child Enforcement says that states are not under any obligation to collect in response to
another state s request. However, most states have liberal statutes of limitation. The statutes of
limitation allow a private collection service to be effective where a government agency would not
be. Private Collection Companies Have Lighter Case Loads One reason that government agencies
are unsuccessful has to do with the number of cases they have. Government child support agencies
often struggle to deal with a high caseload. The caseload of private collection companies is
comparatively low. The result is that private child support enforcement services are often able to
spend more time on their clients cases. The extra time means that they can solve tougher

What Was Eichmann s Trial
Post war, Eichmann was captured by the U.S., but escaped to Argentina in 1946. There, he
proceeded to live his life with his family for around 10 years until he was abducted by the Israeli
Security Service and brought to stand trial in Israel. The evidence that was shared throughout the
trial gained international attention and gave the public a close up view of the horrors of the
Holocaust. Eichmann s trial was the first ever to be shown on television[BK1] . Throughout the
trial, Eichmann was behind bulletproof glass to make sure he was not harmed.
At the time of the trial, Eichmann was accused of having been the sole mastermind behind the
implementation of the final solution. There were 15 counts brought against Eichmann. Some of

With all the evidence against him, his only appeal was to continually try to convince the jury that
he was in the hands of his leaders. He pleaded that because he was not an actual leader in the
movement he was not guilty. His active part in the final solution backfired on this claim. When
Eichmann was questioned about his feelings toward the allegations made against him during the
trial, he explained the difference in his mind between his legal guilt and his ethical guilt. Eichmann
said I bear no political responsibility and therefore I am not legally guilty. Though Eichmann was
responsible for the mass deportations, the fault of the whole Holocaust was not all on him. To some
extent, Eichmann was just following the orders of men as worse as him.Eichmann uses this idea in
his defence. He testified that he was just working under Heinrich Himmler and Mueller, two of his
superiors. He explained how he had to follow the orders he was given and that the punishment for
disobedience was death. In fact, Eichmann said in one of the trial transcripts, [11] I was merely a
tool in the hands of a stronger powers. While this is true to some degree, Eichmann could have
turned himself in, and this was brought up in the trial. He begs the court to understand that he was
just a pawn. He said:
I did try to leave my position, to leave for the front, for honest battle. But I was held fast in those
dark duties. Once again I would stress that I am guilty of having been obedient, having
subordinated myself to my official duties and the obligations of war

Essay on Transmission Fluid
Your car will rely on many things especially fluids to keep all the mechanical parts well lubricated
and working without using much heat on high friction functions. Transmission fluid is one of the
most important fluids in the car. Significance The transmission system uses clutch, actuating shafts
and all the gear connections. Each engine gear will have a limit, which is defined by the red line
that is always defined by the revolutions per minute. When the gear of your vehicle reaches the
limit, it has to stop spinning and let another gear power the vehicle. Your transmission system will
be responsible for moving the power one gear to another without letting the engine stop, and
transmission helps in making that happen. Function... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, it is necessary to get your transmission fuel replaced in due time. Here are some
simple steps on how to replace transmission fluid. Things Required: Socket wrenches
Screwdrivers Mallet Longneck funnel Two old milk jugs Jack stands or car ramp Wheel chocks
Brake cleaner Several clean shop rags Steps: Preparing for replacing transmission fluid Before
you lift your car, you must examine the transmission to diagnose the health of the same. You
will have to run your car for this, so start the engine of your car and allow it to run until it is
warm. Keep the gearshift in park and the emergency brake should be in place. Now you will
have to check the level of the transmission fluid with the help of a dipstick, which is located in
the rear of the engine. After some time pull out the dipstick, wipe it with a clean rag and again
insert it in the tube, making sure that it is seated completely over there. Pull the dipstick out and
check the film of fluid on the end. Some of the dipsticks will show levels of cool, warm or hot
fluid. If the transmission fluid of your car is in good health, then the fuel level should not be low.
It will have a pinkish or reddish color and will smell like petrol. If the transmission fuel appears
burned and is low consistently, then it means that you will have to replace

Homeless And Homelessness
The word homeless is used to describe a person without a home, and therefore typically living on
the streets. Homelessness is described as part of a vicious circle that is difficult for many to escape.
More temporary shelters and rehabilitation sessions to help individuals find employment should be

Many homeless individuals, especially the young, have fallen victim to a complex mesh of social,

Similarities And Differences Of Rastafarianism And Judaism
Parallelisms and Differences:Rastafarianism and Judaism
The two religions of Rastafarianism and Judaism embody many of the same characteristics, as well
as their ancestry. Although the Rastafarians, at times, inaccurately explain the bible, their belief in
the Old Testament is still prevalent. Many of the customs are almost identical, but the rationale
behind the traditions and laws contrast greatly.
In 1933, when Leonard P. Howell was arrested for using seditious and blasphemous language, to

Although, they reject any scriptures from the New Testament and the Koran, which are used by

In the Jewish religion, Judaism is not only obtained through conversion but mainly through our

their fathers. Therefore, it could be claimed that Haile Selassie was not Jewish because the
Emperor of Ethiopia, Sheba, was not. On a contrary note, Menelik s mother, Sheba, was indeed

like Facebook witness an exponential increase in user activity when an event takes place in the real
world. This activity is a combination of good quality content like information, personal views,
opinions, comments, as well as poor quality content like rumours, spam, and other malicious
content. Although, the good quality content makes online social media a rich source of
information, consumption of poor quality content can degrade user experience, and have
inappropriate impact in the real world. In addition, the enormous popularity, promptness, and reach
of online social media services across the world makes it essential to monitor this activity, and
minimize the production and spread of poor quality content. Multiple studies in the past have
analysed the content spread on social networks during real world events. However, little work has
explored the Facebook social network. Two of the main reasons for the lack of studies on
Facebook are the strict privacy settings, and limited amount of data available from Facebook, as

Rousseau: Oh no Hobbes: What you haven t heard of it? Locke: No, we know about it, you just
get a little hostile when you drink. Hobbes: Its not my fault that all the people who make up the
state are corrupt. But you could imagine living in a state of nature? Locke: In my opinion, if
people were living in a society where there was no government, society would be intolerable to
live in. People could do whatever they wanted. Although there would be no government, this
doesn t mean the state would be free of morality. Hobbes: I agree with what you on one thing and
that is that people could do whatever they want. However in this very hypothetical state, I think
people would be living in constant fear. Locke: I think this state is a reality. It is often asked as a
a mighty objection, where are, or ever were, there any men in such a state of nature? To which it
may suffice as an answer present, that since all princes and rulers of independent governments all
through the world are in a state of nature, it is plain the world never was, nor never will be without
numbers of men in that state

The Great Debate John O sullivan Analysis
What do you think life would be like if everyone got a trophy for just going to school or work?
That would be crazy! That is not how life works, so why should kids get a participation trophy
for just showing up.That is a waste of an organization s scarce funds. Also, the more trophies
given out the less each one means. Youth athletes should be allowed to fail. On the other hand,
some people believe it is worth a few bucks to give a kid a smile. Participation trophies are
unessential for rewarding youth athletes in sports. The more participation trophies given out the
less each one means. In section two of The Great Debate: Do We Need Participation Trophies by
John O Sullivan states nothing makes the trophyspecial if everyone gets one. The trophy is special
if when no one else gets one except you. When trophies like hardest worker and MVP motivate
youth athletes to work hard because they want one of those trophies. That is what keeps youth
athletes trying their hardest and giving their best. Trophies are not what matters, it is the hard work
you put in that matters.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Batteries And Its Effects On The World
Batteries. Possibly one of the most unappreciated inventions in the world. They re see strewn
around your home, just lose and debatably old or new. We couldn t power a toy truck nor a
hearing aid without them yet we disrespect the honor of one of the most genius and important
inventions in history. Batteries are very important but is there anything we can replace it with
possibly, ourselves? Well, first we need to know what exactly a battery actually does. The first
true battery was invented by Alessandro Volta, an Italian physicist, in 1800. Batteries are a mass
of one or more cells whose chemical reactions create a flow of electrons in a circuit. Batteries
contain three basic parts: electrodes, an electrolyte, and a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The anode is known as the reducing agent, because it loses electrons. But do we know what it
means for a battery to be dead? Well, as the anode and cathode are connected to a circuit and a
chemical reaction takes place between the anode and the electrolyte, the reaction causes electrons to
race through the circuit and back into the cathode where another chemical reaction takes place.
When the material in the cathode or anode gets to the point where it is consumed or no longer able
to be used in the reaction, the battery is unable to produce electricity. At that point, your battery is
officially considered dead (Hymel 2016). More recently, in 1980, an American physicist Professor
John Goodenough invented the lithium battery. As lithium is one of the lightest elements on the
period table and being its electrochemical potential is extremely high, the combination produces
some of the highest possible voltages in the most compact and lightest volumes (Alarco 2015).
There is an unfortunate decent balance between advantages and disadvantage for lithium batteries.
An advantage is that its low maintenance, therefore the batteries don t exhibit a phenomenon
known as the Memory Effect , of which in short is now used as a general term for anything that
makes a battery not deliver at its full capacity. A disadvantage of lithium batteries is the cost.

Essay about The Zebra Mussel
Populations of the zebra mussel, Dreissena polymorpha (Pallas), were first found in the Laurentian
Great Lakes in 1988 (Hebert et al., 1989). This species is native to the Caspian, Aral, and Black
Seas and the rivers that drain into them but has spread throughout Europe, principally during the
18th century. Since it is restricted to estuarine and freshwater habitats, it is presumed that it was
introduced into North America by ballast waters of transoceanic vessels. Based on the substantial
amount of genetic variation found in these initial populations, as estimated from electrophoretic
variation of allozymes, the colonization of the Great Lakeswas by a large number of immigrants and
not just a few founders... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This blockage can result in heat damage to power plants and necessitates costly removal or
replacement of intake pipes (Minchin and Moriarty, 1998).
Colonization by zebra mussels has devastating ecological impacts on native bivalves (Mackie,
1991; Haag et al., 1993), frequently driving them to local extinction. Zebra mussels readily, perhaps
preferentially, settle on native bivalves and eventually cover them over. They filter the water so
efficiently that they can lower the amount of suspended food organisms below levels needed to
sustain native unionids.
Their success in spreading rapidly and colonizing new areas is due to two features of zebra mussel
biology. Firstly, zebra mussels produce large numbers ( gt; 30,000 per female) of planktotrophic
veliger larvae which can survive for 10 15 days (Hebert et al., 1989). Such larvae are well suited
for efficient dispersal by water currents, especially in riverine systems. Additionally, they don t
require the presence of suitable host species of fish, as do native unionid larvae. Secondly, the
spread of zebra mussels is aided by their ability to attach to objects by byssal threads (the same
ability that leads to their fouling problems). Because of this ability, adult zebra mussels can attach
to and be spread by ships,

Egyptian Civilization And Greek Civilization
The early human lived life by hunting, fishing and collecting wild plant, and their life was not
organized. About 5000 years ago, a complex and organized way of life began in some part of the
world. People live together in town, cities and others centers and started farming, industries, and
also started writing, painting and other method of living. Later, there were specialize occupations
emerged, complex religions took form and social diversion increased, and these changes lead to the
birth of civilizations. There were many ancient civilizations in the world like, India civilization,
Chinese civilization, Middle East civilization, Mesopotamian civilization, Egyptian civilization,
Greek civilization, Roman civilization and others which greatly contributed to the development of
the world history. Each civilization had their own way to follow culture, religions, public life,
economic life, and others. Therefore, in this paper, I will describe how Indian civilization,
Egyptian civilization and Greek Civilization made impacts in the way that we see today s world
and how these civilizations affected people s life.
Indian civilization was one of the first civilization in world history. Indian civilization is staged in
two steps: About 2600 BCE is known as Indus Civilization and about 1500 BCE is known as Vedic
civilizations. Indus Civilization was peaceful civilization compared to other civilizations. All
evidence shows that Indus civilization was grown under diverse society

4.Quick Decision
The sole proprietor is his own boss and need not consult others while making any decision. He
exercises exclusive control over the affairs of the business. Therefore, he can take quick decision
and implement them without any delay.
5.Effective Control
In this form of organisation, the business can be controlled effectively because business activities
are planned and executed by a single man. Since all the decisions relating to purchase and sale are
taken by the soletrader, he can effectively control the business if there is any deviation from the
original plan.
6.Increase in Sales
A sole trader has direct relationship with the customers. Direct contact with the customers will
enable the proprietor to know the nature of their tastes, likes and dislikes. It enables him to make
necessary changes in the quality and design of his products. It will boost his sales besides
enhancing the reputation of the firm.

Categories of Psychotherapy
An early designation of psychotherapies divided all types of psychotherapy into two major
categories: insight oriented therapy and action oriented therapy (Woolley, Wampler, Davis, 2012).
This designation was made on the basis of the therapist s main focus in achieving positive change.
An insight oriented therapyfocuses on assisting the client develop knowledge or awareness about
themselves as a major focus of change. The insight itself leads to positive change in the client.
Action oriented therapies directly focus on changing some behavioras opposed to relying on self
knowledge or awareness to facilitate the change. The designation is not mutually exclusive; in all
action oriented therapies some insight is gained and in all insight oriented therapies there is some
direct change of behavior. However, the designation is valid when determining the focus of the
therapist regarding the main target of the therapeutic intervention.
For example, Experiential Family Therapy attempts to facilitate change by means of a commitment
to increasing self awareness, self fulfillment, and expression or communication between family
members (Goldenberg Goldenberg, 2012). Clients are encouraged to examine their feelings, the
family cohesiveness, communication patterns, and reducing defensiveness and family members by
unlocking levels of experiencing and freeing people from impulsiveness and defensive reactions to
one another are the goals. The primary motor of change in experiential

Hope-Focused Marriage Counseling
Hope Focused Marriage Counseling
In Partial Fulfillment

Pre Marital Counseling (PACO 610)
February 18, 2010
Summary
Worthington has an approach that is dependent largely on the empathizing of the counselor rather
than the willingness of the involved (xiii). The essentials of this approach are the couples
willingness to be expressive in their affection only while continually being reserved in reactions to
provocations. Apparently, there is a chemical reaction which cascades more negativity (xxv), and
the positivity to negativity ratio needs lots of boosting (47).
The importance of the marriage relationship is that it is the only picture of Christ and His people

One can see their common values as assets that each partner holds. That is, they are not starting
with empty hands (129).
Positive change is brought about chiefly through direct request or verbal expectation (160). So much
of dialogue is idiomatic, hyperbole, sarcastic, critical, or manipulative. Say what you want needs
to be a constant piece of communication coaching from any counselor. Positive feedback is very
important. This is not saying that you agree with what is being said, but rather that you understand
what is being said and that the speaker knows that you understand (182). If a couple is busy
making deposits in the positivity bank of their spouse, an occasional blunderous withdrawal will
not feel as devastating (220).
Waitpower is essentially remembering that while you re fixing these problems, they didn t peak
overnight, and they won t leave that quickly either (56). Furthermore, if the couple knew they
could have an enjoyable marriage within two years, that wait seems like a rather minimal
investment in the grand scheme of the life of a marriage (110). The process of healing cannot be
hurried. It takes deliberate steps of patience and betterment. There are certain actions that will have
predictable results (133). The couple must consider their behavior and see how it drives certain

World War One Horror At Home Analysis
World War One: Horror at Home and On the Front LineWorld War One, to this day, holds some
of the most horrific events in all of world history. Susan R. Grayzel s nonfiction work, The First
World War A Brief History with Documents, gives first hand accounts of the terrifying events that
took place between 1914 and 1919 that drastically changed the lives of all who were living
during the time. The documents created during this time effectively reveal the fear that radiated
on the home front and frontline as a result of newfound warfare and the first occurrence of total
war. In the beginning of World War One, there was widespread support for the war. At first war
was seen as cultural hygiene and a form of carrying out Social Darwinism. Social Darwinism
applied Charles Darwin s late 1800 s theory of natural selection to present day society. People
believed only the most capable of adapting and changing should survive. Despite widespread
support from most counterparts, there were still those who obviously opposed. Russian poet,
Anna Akhmatova, warned and also accurately described the terrors of the war to come. Her poem

to the very first words in the essay; The five paragraph formula confuses and alienates students and
undermines our most basic goals as writinginstructors. Foley believes that by teaching children to

We are instead giving them the freedom to discontinue the thought process once they feel that the

Virtual Child Pornography Case Study
Case 1 Virtual child pornography
Parties are The Federal Child Pornography Prevention Act, the people in the porn video, and the
people recording it. The moral issue is people that are playing in porn videos posing as a child but
is really an older person that looks young, also the people who think this is okay to watch. Virtual
child pornography is a term given to video depictions of child/child or child/adult sexual activity in
which the participants are not actual children but realistic computer generated images of children.
This was the reason that The Federal Child Pornography Prevention Act banned this kind of porn
because this is not right to show children bodies off to people for pleasure.
As I did some research I see this, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I as well came across this as I researched about child porn, the CPPA defined child pornography
as: Any visual depiction, including any photography, film, video, picture or computer generated
image or picture of sexually explicit conduct, where the production of such visual depiction is,
or, appears to be, of a minor engaging in sexually explicit conduct; such visual depiction has
been created, adapted, or modified to appear that an identifiable minor is engaging in sexually
explicit conduct; or such visual depiction is advertised, promoted, presented, described, or
distributed in such a manner that conveys the impression that the material is or contains a visual
depiction of a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct. This to me is sickening and for a
person to be able to go online and click in the search box and google or search in what even
search engine they may use and type child porn and can bare themselves to sit there and watch this
is a very heartless person.
The question remains whether the government may criminalize the production and possession of
virtual child pornography if no child is used in the production of pornography and the images are
completely fictional. My all around output on the child porn is that I think it is so disgusting and it
is observed and no one

The Effects Of Parental Involvement On Student s...
A.
Share something that you learner from the webcast that was new to you. Then, talk about ways that
you see yourself using that information within your school setting.
The webcast was very informative. A few factors that were shared never crossed my mind as being
influential in regards to parental involvement. The webcast suggested that the student s attendance
rate was greatly influenced by the involvement of their parents in their educational process.
However, this statement makes sense, but it s never crossed my mind. The webcast also shared that
a student s attitude towards their educational endeavors was also a direct relationship with the
degree of parental involvement in the student s education. Subsequently, the webcast also shared
that the more parental involvement the student has from their family; the chances of experiencing
discipline problems decrease. It s amazing how the involvement of the parents can cause a student
to have such a positive disposition towards their education. Parental involvement shows the students
that the parents are serious regarding their educational career; as a result it makes the student more
accountable for their education.
The webcast also shed some light on the phrase parental involvement. At first glance, most people
simply think that parents volunteering, sending in school supplies, attending PTA meeting, taking
part in parent teacher conferences sufficed as parental involvement. However, this is not the case at
all. Parental

In modern aviation, pilot fatigue has become a vital problem that needs urgent intervention. The
full effect of fatigue is frequently unforeseen however, many of its harmful effects have been
known for a long time. When comparing with individuals who usually have enough rest,
individuals who suffer from fatigue act slowly, have difficulties in memory, and are involved in
many mistakes. In addition, the negative impact can or may lead to aviation accidents and errors
(Caldwell, Mallis, Caldwell, Paul, Miller, Neri, 2009).
Some of the negative effects that contribute to airplane accidents are related to fatigue. Associated
mainly with long flights, irregular work schedules performed by pilots may lead to incidences such
as menstrual irregularities, stomach problems, weight gain, cardiovascular problems, and cold flu.
Unfortunately, there are attempts to provide limitation on flight time and scheduling provisions to
pilots. Moreover, accident surveys and aviation studies all indicate that fatigue is an emerging
hazard and a major concern in airline industries around the world. Long flying pilots often attribute
the cause of their fatigue to circadian disturbances and sleep deprivation, which is as a result of time
zone transitions. While short flying pilots attribute their fatigue on workload and sleep

The Resilience Center Lists The Definition Of Resiliency
The Resiliency Center lists the definition of Resiliency as:
Able to recover quickly from misfortune; able to return to original form after being bent,
compressed, or stretched out of shape. A human ability to recover quickly from disruptive change,
or misfortune without being overwhelmed or acting in dysfunctional or harmful ways. As in Our
team showed great resilience, or Our team had good resiliency. (n.d.)
There are numerous points of view on resiliency, as non‑governmental associations (NGOs)
perceive that individuals capacity to better withstand and recuperate from calamities is basic to
maintaining improvement. NGOs, contributors and worldwide reaction groups are attempting to
characterize resiliency in their terms. CRS characterizes resiliency as the capacity of people,
communities and institutions to advance integral human development in the face of shocks, cycles
and trends (2014, p.2). The vulnerable individuals themselves best characterize strength and
resiliency. What vulnerable individuals accept helps most to their versatility limit is discriminating
to current dialogs on resiliency. Contributors and NGOs may have their own meaning of the term;
however, an understanding of what it really means to individuals looking to make their community
resilient is crucial to outlining successful Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and recovery activities in
development, risk reaction and catastrophe recuperation programs (CRS, 2014). The danger of not

Visual And Verbal Components Of An Organization Essay
Introduction
Culture is something like behavioral rules which are unwritten and unspoken that is produced
when group of people comes at a place to work together. Culture is created by the attitude, the
values, beliefs and important assumptions as well as performance and activities shared by a group
of people.
Organizational culture is made up of every sort of experiences that all employee brings to the work
place. Organization culture is particularly introduced by the organization s founder, executives, and
other managerial staff because of their role in decision making and strategic direction.
The visual and verbal components of an organization s culture are evident every day at work.
Whether you are walking through a work area, sitting in an office, attending a meeting, or eating in
the lunchroom, the organization s culture surrounds you and permeates your working life. Culture
is represented in groups by: language, decision making, symbols, stories and legends and daily work
practices. Your bulletin board content, the company newsletter, the interaction of employees in
meetings, and the way in which people collaborate, speak volumes about your organizational
culture.
Culture is how organizations do things . Robbie Katanga. Culture is consistent, observable patterns
of behavior in organizations. Aristotle said, We are what we repeatedly do. This view elevates
repeated behavior or habits as the core of culture and deemphasizes what people feel, think or

Suicide Impact On Society
A common misconception faced by society is that a crime can be truly victimless. It is true that
not all crimes are intended to harm other individuals or oneself, however, this is an after effect that
is directly caused by the breaking of a law. What are commonly seen as victimless crimes pertaining
to consenting adults performing illegal actions can cause harm. Such crimes that are considered to
be victimless include: suicide, consensual fights, and drug use. Not only are these crimes seen as
controversial topics in the public eye, but, they show the direct unintentional physical and mental
harm that is placed on society.
Impact on Society of Suicide Suicide is a controversial topic in today s society, as some
individuals believe it causes no effect on other individuals. This statement, however, is false
because not only will it affect your family but it effects your colleagues, friends, and even old
classmates. One of the hardest things that a community can face is the loss of a young person s
life, as it effects everyone in the community. This death can lead to multiple community members
feeling guilty, not only for not having prevented the suicide, but also due to distress, anger, and
confusion. More specifically, in regards to family members, it can lead to mental illnesses such as
depression, anxiety, divorce, and are at higher risk to commit suicide themselves (Tracy, 2016, para.

Botswana and Edinburgh University, creates a wonderful and entertaining story centered around a
patriotic womanwho wants to make a difference. The novel s main character, a middle aged
woman named Precious Ramotswe, uses the money from her late father s cattle to open her
very own detective agency. At the time, this was an abnormality for a woman. As the novel
progresses, one thing becomes clear: Certain qualities of the country of Botswana and in the
novel The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency has clearly defined the expectations of males and
females, leaving females treated unfairly. Throughout the novel, Mma Ramotswe encounters
many different people and is faced with many obstacles. One of these obstacles is the fact that
she is a woman, which Mma Ramotswe does not believe should be a problem. Despite her
opinions, the detective sees the difference in genders as she solves many of her cases. The
earliest encounter in the story is in one of the first cases the detective works on: a case in which a
young woman, named Happy Bapetsi, wants Mma Ramotswe to prove that man who appeared on
her doorstep is truly her long lost father. Happy Bapetsi is not your average Botswana woman.

The Conflict in Darfur and United States Involvement
The conflict in Darfur refers to the fighting that is happening in the western region of Sudan
known as Darfur. These fights have been taking place since 2003 and have continued to today.
Similarities can be made to the Rwandan Genocide; there is a government funded and armed
militia that is not officially supported by the government that is killing a local population. The
citizens of the region of Darfur that are being killed are not Arabic, like the majority of the rest of
Sudan is, however, they are more similar in culture and other aspects to the citizens of South
Sudan, Sudan s neighboring country to the south with which Sudan has had multiple wars with.
Despite the fact that there is a militia that is killing citizens, there are also other militias that are
fighting for the Darfuri people. These two sides have been fighting each other for close to ten
years. Even though citizens of a certain group are being targeted by a militia, the conflict in Darfur
is not a genocide. The United States should not get involved militarily in this conflict because it is
only a conflict and not a genocide. It is a war between two groups over disputes between these
groups. Instead, the United States should use diplomacy to help end the conflict happening in
Darfur.
A genocide is the systematic attempt to eliminate a group of people based on race, religion,
ethnicity, or other defining group characteristic. This should not be misconstrued with a war
between two groups where each group is

Food Allergies Essay
It is common in the United States for people to have food allergies and it is increasing. The body
s negative reaction to a specific food protein is what is known to be a food allergy. The most
common food allergies are milk and dairy products, egg and egg products, fish and shellfish, wheat,
soy and soy products, and peanuts and tree nuts (Servsafe). Different foodallergies develop in
people at different times in their lives depending on the allergy and the person themselves. Fish
and shellfish food allergies tend to not develop until adulthood. With fish approximately forty
percent of people who were in a study on food allergies said that they did not have their first fish
allergic reaction until they were an adult. With shellfish, about sixty percent of people had their
first reaction when they were adults. Everyone to some extent is allergic to a type of food, but
fish and shellfish food allergies are two of the most common and can possibly be the most
dangerous out of all the food allergies. To help people with a shellfish and fish allergy to stay safe
and healthy the rest of this essay will be focused on: basic information of fish and shellfish
allergies, common symptoms of the allergies, what is anaphylaxis and how to treat it, and how to...

It seems strange to people to think shellfish to be more dangerous to fish allergy, believing them
to be the same thing but if you have one of the two food allergies, it does not necessarily mean
the person is allergic to the other as well. The shellfish has a food protein called tropomyosin,
which can be found in insects like cockroaches and dust mites. Also if a person has a fish allergy
they could possibly only be allergic to one type of fish and can eat a variety of other

Building Regulations Unit: Building Regulations and Control in Construction Title: The origins and purpose of building control Pass 1 UK Building Regulations: The first building control legislation in England dates back to the Great Fire of London in 1666. The reasons why it spread out so quickly were the proximity of the timber buildings. The government of the day realised this and introduced by laws to try to prevent it from happening again. So in 1667 they introduced the London Building Act. However it was not until 1774 that the District Surveyors in London were appointed to enforce these laws. Around this time due to the Industrial Revolution other towns were rapidly expanding and they started to experience similar problems that London had ... The stakeholders include everyone from Don Blankenship all the way down to the employees who were treated badly by Massey and their higher ups. Don Blankenship had a few more benefits than costs in regards to his company. He accrued $129 million over his 10 year stint as CEO of Massey Energy while also maintaining a power over others beneath him. He cost himself his reputation within his community and his employees. The immediate cause of the disaster is the result of a poorly maintained longwall shearer that sent a spark which could not be extinguished because of inoperative water sprayers. This spark ignited a pocket of methane gas that accumulated at the coal face over the course of a year because of poor ventilation. This resulted in an explosion that fireballed throughout the mine because of the accumulation of flammable coal dust that was not properly treated with rock dust as instructed by the MSHA. Although this was the immediate and most detrimental cause of the disaster, I believe Don Blankenship was largely responsible for the disaster. For almost twenty years, Blankenship had near total control over Massey Coal Company, and later Massey Energy. During this time, he had decisive impact over the culture, policies, and practices of the company. He directed a management system that gave priority to productivity, which was running coal, over all other concerns, including environmental impacts, worker health and safety, and legal compliance. As a hands on manager, he was completely and fully aware of everything that was going on in the company, all the way down to the last tank of gasoline or ton of coal. Therefore, he should bear the ultimate responsibility for the Upper Big Branch mine disaster. 4. What steps could be taken now to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The directors change the way the characters act, the costumes they wear, and the setting of the scene, to make each version of the party scene different and unique. By changing the way that their characters act, directors Zeffirelli and Luhrmann show the differences between their two films. In the Zeffirelli version of Romeo and Juliet, the characters of Romeo, Juliet, and the other party guests are very polite and proper. Albert Marrin s text, Flesh and Blood so Cheap shows a factory that was not prepared for the fire that was awaiting it. Marrin uses implicit and explicit evidence to hint towards his overall theme that safety concerns should be a priority for business owners. The Triangle Fire was a disaster, killing 146 people. There were ways in which it could ve been prevented but those were overlooked. The fire couldn t ve been predicted, so safety was not a priority. Marrin uses explicit and implicit evidence to develop his thesis along the way. The explicit evidence is the easy one to find out of the two. Some of the explicit evidence Marrin uses are the facts that there were no lights in the stairway and that the ninth floor exit was locked. Since there were no lights in the stairway, people could ve tripped or fallen and then get run over by the crowd. Also, since the ninth door exit was locked, people couldn t get out, leading to many deaths on that floor. Those two examples are some of the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Additionally, there s a part later in the story that explains how people couldn t open the doors because everyone was pushing against them. That means that the doors opened inward and usually, for safety reasons, the doors should open outward so that type of thing doesn t happen. • 9. Determination Of Copper Sulphate Using Colorimetry Lab Report Finding the concentration of an unknown sample of copper sulphate using colorimetry. In this task the concentration of an unknown sample of copper sulphate using colorimetry was used to find the concentration. In this investigation copper sulphate was used which is CuSO4.5H20 as a formula. To make a standard solution which was 1M, the same clean equipment was used to make up the standard solution as used to make sodium carbonate. However there was one difference and that was that the hot distilled water was used to dissolve the copper sulphate crystals. There had to be enough hot water in order to dissolve the crystals into the beaker and then add cold distilled water to cool the solution. After this, the solution was poured into a volumetric flask just about to the 1dm3 line and then it was left there to cool to the same temperature as the room before filling precisely to the 1dm3 line with distilled water. The molar mass of CuSO4.5H20 was 249.5 so that means 249.5g of copper sulphate was needed to dissolve, in order to make a standard solution, into 1dm3of distilled water. Following this, a linear dilution of the CuSO4.5H2O was made in order to be used to make a calibration curve after using the colorimeter to write down the absorbance of each sample. The problem is that many parents fail to pay their child support payments on a regular basis. These deadbeat parents may also take a variety of steps to get out of their financial responsibilities. For instance, some states may not collect child support in a case with an emancipated child. In cases with emancipated children, the United States Office of Child Enforcement says that states are not under any obligation to collect in response to another state s request. However, most states have liberal statutes of limitation. The statutes of limitation allow a private collection service to be effective where a government agency would not be. Private Collection Companies Have Lighter Case Loads One reason that government agencies are unsuccessful has to do with the number of cases they have. Government child support agencies often struggle to deal with a high caseload. The caseload of private collection companies is comparatively low. The result is that private child support enforcement services are often able to spend more time on their clients cases. The extra time means that they can solve tougher ... Essay on Transmission Fluid Your car will rely on many things especially fluids to keep all the mechanical parts well lubricated and working without using much heat on high friction functions. Transmission fluid is one of the most important fluids in the car. Significance The transmission system uses clutch, actuating shafts and all the gear connections. We couldn t power a toy truck nor a hearing aid without them yet we disrespect the honor of one of the most genius and important inventions in history. Batteries are very important but is there anything we can replace it with possibly, ourselves? Well, first we need to know what exactly a battery actually does. Batteries contain three basic parts: electrodes, an electrolyte, and a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The anode is known as the reducing agent, because it loses electrons. But do we know what it means for a battery to be dead? Well, as the anode and cathode are connected to a circuit and a chemical reaction takes place between the anode and the electrolyte, the reaction causes electrons to race through the circuit and back into the cathode where another chemical reaction takes place. When the material in the cathode or anode gets to the point where it is consumed or no longer able to be used in the reaction, the battery is unable to produce electricity. At that point, your battery is officially considered dead (Hymel 2016). More recently, in 1980, an American physicist Professor John Goodenough invented the lithium battery. As lithium is one of the lightest elements on the period table and being its electrochemical potential is extremely high, the combination produces some of the highest possible voltages in the most compact and lightest volumes (Alarco 2015). There is an unfortunate decent balance between advantages and disadvantage for lithium batteries. An advantage is that its low maintenance, therefore the batteries don t exhibit a phenomenon known as the Memory Effect , of which in short is now used as a general term for anything that makes a battery not deliver at its full capacity. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This blockage can result in heat damage to power plants and necessitates costly removal or replacement of intake pipes (Minchin and Moriarty, 1998). Colonization by zebra mussels has devastating ecological impacts on native bivalves (Mackie, 1991; Haag et al., 1993), frequently driving them to local extinction. Zebra mussels readily, perhaps preferentially, settle on native bivalves and eventually cover them over. They filter the water so efficiently that they can lower the amount of suspended food organisms below levels needed to sustain native unionids. Their success in spreading rapidly and colonizing new areas is due to two features of zebra mussel biology. Firstly, zebra mussels produce large numbers ( gt; 30,000 per female) of planktotrophic veliger larvae which can survive for 10 15 days (Hebert et al., 1989). Such larvae are well suited for efficient dispersal by water currents, especially in riverine systems. Additionally, they don t require the presence of suitable host species of fish, as do native unionid larvae. Secondly, the spread of zebra mussels is aided by their ability to attach to objects by byssal threads (the same ability that leads to their fouling problems). Because of this ability, adult zebra mussels can attach to and be spread by ships, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This to me is sickening and for a person to be able to go online and click in the search box and google or search in what even search engine they may use and type child porn and can bare themselves to sit there and watch this is a very heartless person. The question remains whether the government may criminalize the production and possession of virtual child pornography if no child is used in the production of pornography and the images are completely fictional. The citizens of the region of Darfur that are being killed are not Arabic, like the majority of the rest of Sudan is, however, they are more similar in culture and other aspects to the citizens of South Sudan, Sudan s neighboring country to the south with which Sudan has had multiple wars with. Despite the fact that there is a militia that is killing citizens, there are also other militias that are fighting for the Darfuri people. These two sides have been fighting each other for close to ten years. Even though citizens of a certain group are being targeted by a militia, the conflict in Darfur is not a genocide. Instead, the United States should use diplomacy to help end the conflict happening in Darfur.
