The Rise Of Mt. Vesuvius
Admiral Pliny watched from his mammoth fleet of ships as Mt. Vesuvius started to rumble. As he
watched the menacing volcano, a looming mass of ash and pumice shot into the darkening sky. He
could hear the screams of the citizens on land and the cries of their children as they tried to run
away from death s face. Pliny had a gut feeling that this would not end well. He knew that this
eruption caused the fall of the beautiful and innocent city of Pompeiiand of many of the citizens
that occupied it, but still he wanted to save as many souls as he could. He sighed and began
barking orders to the fleet and they began sailing to land, and quite possibly, their doom.
Pliny died as he tried to help save people during Pompeii s fall. It was a disastrous ... Show more

Vesuvius destroyed Pompeii when it erupted, it caused the pain and death of many people while
changing the lives of survivors, and created a time capsule with relics and left helpful hints about
how people in ancient rome lived.
Many people died in the eruption of Vesuvius, and many things were left behind. The eruption
caused the turning point of a whole city and still might today. Vesuvius will always be
remembered as one of the most dangerous volcanoes ever to erupt, and the city of Pompeii will
always be remembered as the city that meet destruction in one day. It helped us learn about times
long ago that we might not have know about if it wasn t for the deadly eruption. Because of
Vesuvius s eruption led Pompeii to a new era even if it wasn t a good

Examples Of Power Struggle In Frankenstein
Throughout Frankenstein, the growing strife between Victor and the monster is representative
of a class war. This strife is due to the monster and Victor s conflicting interests and results in a
power struggle between the two. This power struggle is similar to one we see in real life,
between the bourgeoisie and the working class, as they have a similar power dynamic (Wilson
116). Since the bourgeoisie are credited with the creation of the working class and have control
over many aspects of their life, they have immense power over the workers, yet the workers have
the strength in numbers to rise up and resist the bourgeoisie. This power struggle reached a peak
during the time of the Victorian Era, including increasing strife between both the bourgeoisie and the

This resentment can clearly be seen in Frankenstein, it starts with the monster resenting Victor for
creating him and creating him in a way that makes humans despise him (Shelley 85). This
resentment against Victor continues to grow, especially after Victor refuses to build a companion
for the monster. This is the brink for the monster and is when he truly begins to wage a class war
upon Victor. Victor is also resentful of the monster. Thoughts of the monster have plague Victor
throughout the entire novel, even when he was under the impression that the monster had been
destroyed, during the winter after the monster s creation (39). Victor s resentment continues to
grow as the monster begins to make his presence know in murdering Victor s family and friends.
Like the workers, the monster is willing to do anything to improve his conditions, even if it
involves waging a class war upon those high up on the social hierarchy. Considering that the
monster and Victor become alienated throughout the novel, it is clear to see that they represent a

The Discovery Of The New World
The discovery of the New World brought many irreversible changes not only for the European
countries, but to the natives of the land that was being discovered. The sense of exploration began
expanding more and more among the European powers. Every time the explorers invaded, they
would be more avaricious and aggressive against the natives of the land. Along with diseases and
inhumane treatments, the European powers also brought education to the uneducated crowds of
areas such as India, Africa, and China. The main intention of the foreign powers was to
Europeanize the natives of these lands and enslave them into doing the European s dirty work. To
attain such results, the Europeans tried converting the natives lifestyles completely. These
conversions ranged from substituting the natives religionwith Christianity, to the way they labored,
and to the way they portrayed themselves. All the changes the natives had to go through, are clearly
seen in excerpts of Feng Guifen, Afghani, and Gandhi. Each of these men describe the different
aspects changed by the Europeans, for instance Feng Guifen describes the education system brought
by the Europeans and how that affected Asia. Afghani describes the input of science in Islam, while
Gandhi describes the cold heartedness that has spread among the natives and how they have
become civilized. The emergence of the European powers on territories such as Asia became
visible especially in education. Once Europeans began taking over

Chemical Relaxer Research Paper
A Relaxer is a chemical solution that alters the texture of your hair. It is typically used by black
women but people of different ethnicities use this product to straighten their hair. It works by
breaking down disulfide bonds bonds in bonds your hair which either loosens the curl pattern or by
completely elongating it. This alteration is permanent and can lead to brittleness. (Types of
Relaxers)
The man behind the relaxer is Garrett Morgan. his discovery in 1909 lead to the growth of a
multimillion dollar hair industry. Morgan opened a tailoring shop with his wife who had experience
as a seamstress. Morgan worked with the sewing machines but often encountered issues with the

As a black woman who has had experience with this product, I know the dangers of relaxers. I

Juxtaposition Between Good And Evil In The Characters Of...
The chronicles of Beowulf are episodic and carries many conundrums. Specifically, there lies an
enormous contrast between good and evil. The protagonist, Beowulf, is chivalrous, mighty, and
loyal. By the same token, Beowulf s extraordinary showing of patriotism enables him to be the
ultimate keeper of justice. On the other hand, Grendel upholds evil that is derived from pure
envious. It is important to note, that Grendel expresses a high level of combat experiences, just as
Beowulf, however, the wicked man uses his unwavering incitement for iniquitous ways. All things
considered, the juxtaposition between the great Beowulf, and the relentless Grendel, has many
significant distinctions between both characters, including, the contrast between honorable and
villainous. Although, both individuals possess superhuman characteristics, the differences in
Beowulf s confidence, ethics, and bravery will out match Grendel s jealous, irrational, and
forsaken soul; As a matter of fact, the worthy warrior will be crowned victor because God does not
let the nefarious waste away the righteous.
Above all, Beowulf s rather extraordinary confidence, encourages the demise of any opposition.
The noble warrior boasts of his skill often in Beowulf. In particular, Seamus Heaney affirms
Beowulf s public gloat:
I had a fixed purpose when I put out to sea.
As I sat in the boat with my band of men,
I meant to perform to the uttermost what your people wanted or perish in the attempt, in the

IDE Essay
What is the link between production and implementation? I feel it can be described as a
Development Environment. Can Development Environments manage various computer languages,
in order to teach the fundamentals of programming?
IDEs or Integrated Development Environments are applications that can help assist
developers(programmers) with developing software. The first developmental environments were
command based, and didn t look like the menu driven, graphical interfaces of today. In the
programming world there was a need for a more responsive and visual interface. IDEs were created
in the 20th century mostly in European universities. The purpose of an IDE I to maximize
programmer efficiency by tailoring menus and shortcuts toward a specific programming language
operation. IDEs can support more than one programming language, for multiple software projects.
Introduction
These are the steps developers use when creating an application using an IDE:
1) Create a project to analyze Design and Implementation of desired algorithm
2) Editing a project Generating the source code
3) Assemble a project Converting mnemonics into hex or binary; generates an objects file
4) Link a project Uses the object file and generates the binary code
5) Execute a project Perform the tasks specified by instruction codes
6) Simulate a project Execute the program on PC (also called the simulator)
7) Debugging a project Going through the program step by step to find logical

decide differential diagnosis. Right upper quadrant pain (RUQ) could be from: acute cholecystitis
and biliary colic, acute hepatitis, hepatic abscess, hepatomegaly due to congestive heart failure,
perforated duodenal ulcer, and bilateral pain: acute pancreatitis, herpes zoster, and myocardial
ischemia, pleural or pulmonary problems (pneumonia). While right lower quadrant pain (RLQ)
could be from: appendicitis, regional enteritis, leaking aneurysm, ruptured ectopic pregnancy,
twisted ovarian cyst, pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), ureteral calculi, incarcerated strangulated
inguinal hernia, endometriosis, Meckel s diverticulitis, abdominal wall hematoma. On the other

Summary Of A Passage Of India By Quot. Forster
A Passage to India, written by E.M. Forster, is a story of human relations between the British
colonists and the people of India. Dr. Aziz, a native Indian and main character in the novel, is
extremely frustrated of the way others think about these two cultures together. Some may say it s
the position of superiority the British hold that the Indians perceive as degrading. Throughout the
novel there is a clear tension between the natives and the colonists that relate to both fictional and
historical events. There are several events that occur that demonstrate this cultural division. One
event, for example, is when Aziz first meets Mrs. Moore, who is an elderly Englishwoman, and
after they chat for awhile, he escorts her to a club that is strictly labeled whites only. In the mean
time, the Indians are forced to stay outside as if some type of a subhuman being. It is this type of
segregation that has been see in history time and time again that leads to racial tension. Its simply a
problem of education because those who do not study history are bound to repeat it. In every culture
, civilization, habitat, or locality, there is, or has been, some form of discrimination at hand. From
what I ve experienced, I believe it is solely based off of change of normality. For instance, when
British colonists first arrived in the New World, Native Americans had already owned the land. To
the natives, this flood of immigrants was their cultural change. Had they not all been massacred and

Jason Terwiliger s Problems With His Restaurant At The...
Jason Terwiliger, a new member of the finance committee at the Windshore Country Club,
recently found some problems with the financing of the F B outlets. His upscale restaurant in the
city is extremely successful, and he hopes to bring some helpful ideas to the Windshore Country
Club s F B operations on the outskirts of the city. One main concern Jason has is all of the
differences in the 4 F B outlets and that they all come out of the same kitchen. He says that the club
s foodcost is at 42% while his restaurant is at 28%, which is a huge difference. Steve should
respond to this concern by telling Jason that although his restaurant only has one outlet for his
kitchen, most clubs have many outlets only run from one kitchen, and while he can t change that

He points out that the chef must make about 6 ducks early in the day to prepare the meal in case
someone orders it, but often that food is thrown away and wasted. Steve should inform Jason
that this may be more uncommon in the restaurant field, but in clubs, specialty dishes that are
prepared daily are very common and also expected by members who want the best food they can
receive. One way to eliminate such a high food waste for Steve may be to prepare less duck each
day, and if they run out they have other high quality dishes to replace them. Another issue was
the use of all fresh ingredients. Jason appreciates the quality of food but also states that frozen
ingredients can offer nearly the same quality for some foods for much less of a cost. Depending
on the quality of the country club and how exclusive they are, Steve may tell Jason that they can
only use fresh ingredients in their kitchen, but may also take him up on his idea and incorporate
some frozen foods in certain dishes. Maybe dishes not as large, like appetizers or fast food outlets,
could use frozen foods more often to cut

Multiculturalism Is The Preservation Of Different Cultures...
Multiculturalism is the preservation of different cultures or cultural identities within a unified
society, as a state or nation (Dictionary.com, 2013). Canada is a country full of many different
ethnicities and cultures, but even though Canada is housing them, it s just not working. Problems
in multiculturalism are most prominent in three areas, the communities, the schools and the
workforce. Multiculturalism in the communities are facing struggle because of the cities appeal
to new immigrants and because of the segregation in ethnic enclaves. Multiculturalism in the
schools is evident when unfair religious accommodations are made and when schools are
stereotyped based on the racial majority. The workforce faces problems in multiculturalism
because of the employers employing visible minorities which creates segregation and because
many immigrants credentials are being looked over and given worse positions. Multiculturalism
is not working in Canada based on the discrimination, stereotypes and segregation evident in the
communities, schools and the workforce. Canada accepts roughly 250,000 immigrants each
year (Press, 2008), yet over half of the immigrants choose to live in one of Canada s three major
cities; Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver. Studies found that people from the Middle East and
Asia are more likely to live in urban areas while people from Europe are more likely to live in rural
areas. This raises many problems, since the top 3 sources of immigration to

Scarlet Letter Superiority
When we as individuals have the power to act, speak and think with restraint, which is what we
consider to be freedom. America is routinely conceptualized, as a place that offers absolute
freedom, where a person s chances in success are limited only by their capability and devotion not
by social status, or race, or gender, or any other condition. Novelist, Nathaniel Hawthorne, in his
paperback fiction, The Scarlet Letter, delineates an unpleasant society that strictly punishes sinners,
as they are constantly watched they are not able to act freely as it goes against the nature of
Christian thought, and the aftermath for social organization. Hawthorne s purpose is to channel the
idea to his readers that, in his time period of life, social hypocrisy and discrimination very much
existed. As he then begins to go into depth the universal human struggle he experienced, he adopts a
moralizing tone in order to engage and develop the humanity within the readers themselves, despite
the ignorance of humanity itself as well as the necessity to be the superior. Superiority and
dominance is one of the most important aspects in the society that takes place in his novel.
Hawthorne shifts to beginning his tribute to The Scarlet Letter by describing the very location
where the Puritans settled, in Boston, and how they regard individuals of other human traits and
religious practices as inferior. At the same time, he lists elements of nature in regards to mayhem
that threatens the very

Winter Blast Short Story
You know that moment when you cross the finish line and the adrenaline and excitement rushes
over you? And in the moment you think to yourself, Because I persevered, I accomplished my
goals. That is exactly how I felt two years ago when I crossed my finish line... It started on a
chilly February morning at my church s Youth Camp Retreat, called Winter Blast . My friends had
tried to persuade me all morning to climb the two story ropes course, in the barn at the top of the
hill.
Come on Amanda, how do you know you won t like it unless you try it? Nora asked as she pulled
on her tennis shoes.
I just know, I m terrified of heights and I don t want to fall, I protested back as I crawled out of bed.
After more persuasion and pleading I eventually gave in, and we exited our cabin and headed
towards the hill. My nerves grew by the second as I neared the giant opening. We gazed upward as
we entered the barn. Climbers of all shapes and sizes were many stories up, climbing through the
obstacle courses.
The barn was cold and dim lighted. The musty smell of the barn filled my nostrils. It made me feel
as though I had entered a Haunted House. People screamed as the ropes above shook with the wind
being brought in through the holes in the wall.
New climbers head this way! Shouted a voice to the right. I turned and followed my group of
friends over to the man talking.
After all of the climbers were in a half circle around the man, he began speaking. My name is
Westley and I will be your harness instructor. Wesley spoke about all the safety rules you need to
know in order to climb; things like how to attach your harness to the overhead ropes and how to
climb up to the next story.
After all of the rules were shared and everyone got their harnesses on, we were released to go up to
the first story of obstacle courses. My heart pounded in my chest as I neared the rope ladder going
up to the first level. I took a deep breath.
Amanda you can do this, I mumbled to myself as I put my hand on the rope ladder. I slowly
climbed higher and higher until I reached the top rung. I took another deep breath and climbed onto
the platform. As I stood up, a climbing instructor attached my harness clamps to the overhead rope.

Julius Caesar Pickles
Historians believe that the English word pickle comes from the Dutch word pekel or the German
word pokel, both of which refer to the brining aspect of pickling. Humans have been pickling
foods for much longer than any of those words have been in use. In fact, some of the earliest
evidence of foodbeing pickled comes from the ancient Mesopotamians around 2030 BC. It was
then that people from India brought cucumber seeds to the Tigris valley. Pickles were similarly
beloved by the Ancient Egyptians, including Cleopatra. The Ancient Romans are believed to have
brought foods from their conquered territories back with them, using the pickling process to

countries throughout Asia, Africa and the Americas. Flavor Profile of Pickling Spice
Pickling spice is a blend of spices chosen for their ability to withstand the pickling process and to
complement a variety of pickled foods. Each pickling spice blend can be different, depending on
the cook s preferences; however, most blends add a complex combination of sweet and warm
flavors to food.
Health Benefits of Pickling Spice
As with other spice blends, the health benefits vary depending on the ingredients. With most
pickling spice recipes, the components are rich sources of various healthy compounds such as:
Vitamins
The allspice in pickling spice is a good source of vitamin A and of B complex vitamins like
riboflavin and niacin. Mustard seeds also contain those B complex vitamins along with vitamin E.

Pros And Disadvantages Of Bioterrorism
BIOTERRORISM
DEFINITION
Bioterrorrism comes the word bio and terrorism.Bio comes the word biological agent while
terrorism is violence and threats to intimidate and force people to follow some rules especially
when it related to politics. So bioterrorism means sudden outbreak of biological agent
dissemination for violence and to threats to intimidate people. They deliberate release these
biological agent such as viruses, bacteria, toxin or germs and cause death to innocent people.
Viruses have several advantages when comparing with bacteria. Virus is more resistant in
antibiotics compared to bacteria. Furthermore, virus is more dangerous compared to bacteria.
Virus is very difficult to overcome and can cause severe illness and sometimes lead to death.
Biological agent can spread to world by many ways. They can spread through food, air or water.
So it makes terrorist`s work easier to force and intimidate innocent people. United State is one of
the country that is widely popular of bioterrorism but other developing countries also have this
bioterrorism because these developing countries usually attack other countries by bioterrorism.
Bioterrorism is the most commonly use because it is easy and can attack people silently or softly

How To Avoid Concussions
Everyone who commits to playing for an organized team knows that there is a large risk
involved with the time you are stepping onto the field. The most common sport that athletes are
being injured is in the sport of football. The reason is because it is so widely played by all ages,
from Pop Warner all the way to the NFL. The NFL is doing everything they can to prevent head
injuries in the sport of football. Every time an athlete strap on his helmet and walks onto a football
field, he is putting his body at risk of serious injury, but there are steps that have been taken to
minimize the seriousness of those injuries. Factors that have played big roles in keeping athletes

jumping into full contact order to lower the risk of re injury. After being cleared by trainers, the
high school players are allowed to go right back into practice with no limitations. Colleges are
slightly more cautious than high school, but still do little more than high schools. The NFL, on
the other hand, takes concussions much more seriously. NFL players with concussions undergo

delight themselves by cheering on gladiators fought themselves to death. Dramatic theater was also
full of jealousy, retribution, and violence. Although entertainment violence is not new it wasn t
until the twentieth century that heavy doses of violencewere made available to vastly everyone.
Over the past one hundred years, as mass media has become more prevalent, it has also become

Obviously, if a child is typical, television plays a huge role in their lives. Literally thousands of
studies since the 1950s have asked whether there is a link between exposure to violence and
behavior. It is now understood by researchers that children learn new behaviors by direct
experience or by imitating others in their social environment. Programs outfitted for children often
contain more violence more violence than adult television. Most of the violent acts presented on
television often go unpunished and are often accompanied by humor. The consequences of human
suffering and loss are rarely depicted. This can lead young people to commit unknowingly and
comically. Many shows glamorize violence and this is because television often promotes violent
acts as a fun and effective way to get fulfill desired actions without receiving any form of
punishment. It is even common for animated movies, digital video discs, and basic television
labeled G rated to contain violence. Even superheroes beating up villains exhibits a message that
violence is normal and encourages. Many children will try to be like their favorite superhero and
obtain the good guy role in their play unknowingly participating in violent behaviors. Watching

amount human suffering it causes. This is the act of desensitization. Desensitization refers to the

Romans Bread And Games
For my Classics Day project, I worked with Bram to create a Latin themed trivia game inspired
by the modern day board game called Candyland. However, the Roman people did not have
sugar and therefore did not manufacture or consume the marshmallows, chocolate, and candy
canes depicted in the Candyland game. What the Romans did have, and love, was bread, so we
felt it would be appropriate replace candy with bread for the purpose of our game. This change is
even more fitting because of the well known phrase panem et circenses, meaning bread and
games, coined by Juvenal circa 100 A.D. in his poem Satire X. The phrase is intended to
illustrate Juvenal s contempt for the Roman public, who is so easily swayed to vote by cheap
food and entertainment. In Roman society, providing bread and games became one of the most
effective ways to rise to power. In 140 B.C., this policy had been officially put into place with the
passage of the grain dole, or Cura Annonae ( care for the grain supply ). Though a source of
political contention for many years to follow, distributing the grain supply became an important
duty for the Roman Aedile.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Challenger Disaster-Pathos And Logos Healed A Nation
Pathos and Logos Healed a Nation
The Challenger Disaster happened January 28th, 1986. Ronald Reagan delivered a speech
emphasizing the nation s strength and to honor the 7 crew members who died. President Ronald
Reagan s Challenger Disaster speech shows a confident and somber state of the nation regarding
the Challenger that went down. In his speech he justifies that everything is okay and to honor those
who died. The Challenger Disaster effectively repairs the nation with it s tone, rhetorical appeals,
and rhetorical tools.
Ronald Reagan s tone is somber but he confidently explains the impact to the nation with the
ability to recover and become stronger. A quote from the speech that displays the somber tone is,

One rhetorical tool he used in his speech was negative connotation. We lost three astronauts in a
terrible accident on the ground (paragraph 2) , this was a negative event that happened but it
didn t stop us. As a nation we weren t easily fazed and that can be cruel because then we think
nothing can go wrong for us, It s hard to dazzle us (paragraph 4) . The negative connotation in
this speech brings out the somber tone. He confidently speaks about each of these things even
though they are sad. He doesn t let the negative connotation take away from the confident tone of
his speech. A second rhetorical tool he used was the use of pronouns to include the audience. He
is always using pronouns to make the audience feel like they are a part of it, we ve grown to
used to wonders in this century (paragraph 4) . We will never forget them, nor the last time we
saw them (paragraph 8) , he could have said he will never forget them but instead he said we and
that one word changes the whole idea of the statement. The second quote really expresses the
purpose of honoring the crewmembers. He uses a lot of pronouns in the speech to include the
audience, which brings together the tone of confidence and the purpose letting everyone know it
will be okay and that we will get through it together as a nation. Reagan s speech has a strong
message he achieved that through the use of rhetorical

Astrology Is Not Real Science
Astrology has been around for centuries, and people have used the stars, moon, and sun countless
measurements and predictions. It wasn t until modern science was introduced that astrology was
replaced. Still, there are people who believe in this pseudoscience and read their horoscopes
diligently. Fortunately, scientists have evidence to prove astrologyis not a true science. Scientists
have different ideas of why astrology is not considered real science. One point made by Kelly,
Janzen, Saklofske (2017) talks about the consistency of findings. Their article states:
Moreover, there is nothing hinting at the sort of internal consistency that would arise if it was all

In study conducted by Carlson (1983) they looked at astrologers and regular individuals to see if
they could (1) guess their chart and (2) the astrologers were asked to pick the correct personality

Despite the fact that we worked with some of the best astrologers in the country, recommended by
the advising astrologers for their expertise in astrology and in their ability to use the CPI, despite
the fact that every reasonable suggestion made by the advising astrologers was worked into the
experiment, despite the fact that the astrologers approved the design and predicted 50% as the
minimum effect they would expect to see, astrology failed to perform at a level better than chance.

This study proved that even the professional astrologers could not match the correct personality test
with the astrological chart better than the fifty fifty chance. This experiment shows that each person

sign that described their personality, it was not the correct

The Breakdown Of The Basic Nature Of Chinese Poetry
The breakdown of the basic nature of Chinese and English lyrical relations shows that they can be
distinguished from one another through the use of metaphor to evoke the relationship between
scene and feeling and vehicle and tenor respectively. The Western poetry s use of metaphor
celebrates the use of human deception through a made up connection between that which is being
talked about (tenor) and the one who talks about it (vehicle). On the other hand, the Chinese poetrys
relies on the metaphor to come up with the context of scene and feeling which involves the
appreciation of the dynamic lyrical resonance between nature and the human being. Moreover,
while the Western practice engages in purposeful process of conveyance to formulate such explicit
correspondence between tenor and vehicle, the Chinese tradition is set apart by the spontaneous
encounter that evokes the implicit correspondence between scene and feeling. This paper therefore
looks into the use of scene and feeling in Chinese poetryand tenor and vehicle in Western poetry in
relation to the metaphor with an effort to highlight their differences and application.
Scene and Feeling relationship
The term scene basically portrays the physical context that is described in the poem. This physical
context usually entails descriptions of rivers, mountains, vegetation, and animal life among others
(Yanfang 186). When it comes to Chinese poetry, the portrayal of nature is a key element.
However, this inclusion of

Life Pi By Yann Martel And The Movie Life Of Pi Directed...
Many famous novels have been rearranged in order to make movies. However, the quality of the
movie, a lot of the times, depends on the changes made when adapting the novel to film. The
director of the movie needs to make sure that the film does not cut off significant parts, and at the
same time, abstain from the unnecessary parts the writer made without changing the whole theme.
Moreover, they need to add in more characters and scenes to make the film more creative and
understandable. In this essay, the comparison of differences in the novel Life of Piby Yann Martel
and the movie Life of Pi directed by Lee Ann will be discussed.
The setting has not changed when it is transferred to the movie. The settings are: Pondicherry,

What books cannot achieve is the sceneries and effects that film can include. Compare to the book,
Lee created more stunning scenes using special effects. When the readers reach to the point of Pi
describing the ocean, they can try their best to imagine the whole landscape and situation, but the
feeling of helplessly floating on the ocean cannot be illustrated using only personal experiences.
The ocean in the movie can remind the audiences about how small people are compared to the
world the irresistible sense of unknown and tininess, would provoke people to think about their
origins. The sunken scene of the ship Tsimtsum is tiny compared to Titanic , but at the moment of
the ship sank, when Pi is floating on the dark ocean in the night, the drowning feeling that
audiences can experience certainly is not worse than Titanic .
Lee used lots of scenes and background music to bring immersive feeling to the audiences. When it

Conditional Probability For Statisticians
Conditional Probability
Huafeng Zhang
I. Introduction
Everyone in a way use conditional probability even if they don t realize the science behind it. Non
statisticians use conditional probability without recognizing it mostly when they make decisions or
judgments, for example they will be less likely to lend money to people who borrowed his money
but haven t returned the money back. Statisticians think of conditional probability in both logical
and quantitative way.
II. Conditional Probability for Statisticians
For statisticians, conditional probability is everywhere. They will strictly define the events before
computing the conditional probability and use the properties or Bayes theorem to find the
conditional probability.
Statisticians understand that conditional probability derives from the concept of probability.
Probability is a number between zero and one, which measures the likelihood that an event will
occur. The bigger the probability is, the more likely this event is going to happen. The conditional
probability of event A happens given that event B occurs can be written as P(A|B)=(P(A∩B))
/(P(B)) where P(A∩B) is the probability that both events A and B happen, P(B) is the probability
that event B occurs. For example,in order to test if the athletes actually use steroid given the test
results are positive, assuming we know the probability that the test results are positive is 0.6 and the
probability that the test results are positive and the athletes use steroid

Technology Is Affecting Us Essay
Today s world is full of pieces of technology that we take for granted, the microchip has truly
revolutionised the way in which we live and do business. The world we see would not be
recognisable to people of a few generations ago and nowhere is this truism greater than in the world
of computing. Hence it is important to stay up to date with technologynews; while many may think
that this type of news is purely for geeks it is clear that all of us should have at least a passing
interest in news of technological developments.
Technology pretty much touches all of our lives in some way and hence technology news is a vital
resource that can keep us up to date with developments and ways in which the world will be
changing. For instance, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

this diversity that makes technology news articles so interesting to read and why subscribers from

It can be argued that will now live in the computer age , whether this is true or not is a matter of
conjecture but what can be assured is that we live a period where computers are becoming
increasingly important to our way of life. Ultimately we are becoming evermore reliant on our
computers and without them we would be lost; there are even news stories of some now being
addicted to their computers and handhelds. This is the extent that technology has encroached upon
our lives that people now do not feel the need to unplug .
The phenomena is only set to continue, as computers become more powerful and have greater and
greater applications it will not be long that we will plan our lives around the computer. This is not
an attempt to act as a harbinger of doom, it is just theorising on ways in which technology will
impact upon the human race. This is why keeping up to date with news stories about technology is
so important, technology is about forward momentum and understanding what is at the crest of the
wave is only half of the battle.

In 1995, The People of the State of California vs. Orenthal James Simpson, became the most
publicized murder case in history (Price Lovitt, 1997). From the very beginning, it seemed that the
prosecution s case against O. J. Simpson for the murder of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Lyle

The sock was important because it appeared to have blood stains on it. For the prosecution s case
against Simpson, they had the blood stains analyzed by the Department of Justice serologist
Gary Sims. He testified in the case that the blood found on the socks were what he considered to
be spatter stains or something along those lines (Walraven, 1995). The blood was tested and was
found to be a match for one of the murder victims, Nicole Brown Simpson. To counter this
evidence, the defense for O. J. Simpson called Herbert MacDonell to testify about the blood
stains that were found on the socks in Simpson s bedroom. The defense wan t trying to deny that
the blood belong to Nicole, but rather how the blood ended up on the sock in the first place.
Based on his experience in the field of bloodstain pattern analysis, he was able to present an
argument that the blood stain was a result of a compression transfer (Walraven, 1995), rather
than blood spatter, as the prosecution suggested. The compression transfer is said to be the
result of someone placing blood onto the sock using some sort of device, and then removing it
from the surface of the sock. The amount of blood present on one particular portion of the sock
was also inconsistent with what you would find if spatter had occurred. Additionally, based on
an identical spot of blood forming on the opposite side of the sock from, it was argued that the
blood could have only come in contact with the sock while it was not being worn and in a
relatively flat position. The theory of the sock was that the blood was planted on it, and that could
have only have happened if it was not being worn at the time of the

LSD an the Sixties Generation
Is it acceptable for one individual or a group of individuals to come together and fight for a
common cause? Or are they just seen as young people who are too high on drugs who do not
know what is actually going on in the world today? Throughout the 1960 s there was a new
generation emerging, a generation that demanded change and fought for this change when it did
not happen. Even though there was an influence of drugs on this young generation it did not mean
they were any less capable to stand up and fight for what they believed in. Many of these young
individuals had these revolutionary and spiritual thoughts while they were on mind altering drugs.
They believed that they one day could change the world they lived in. Many people associate the
1960 s with drug use and assume it was just a hedonistic search for personal happiness. Given the
larger context, with so many social movements and challenges to the status quo floating around,
could it have been more than that?
Within the 1960 s a new form of drug was created and was said to be an essential pharmaceutical
that should be in every doctor s bag. This drug was called lysergic acid diethylamide, but is more
commonly know as LSD. Albert Hofmann, as Swiss chemist, created this new drug in hopes that
he might have found a profitable analeptic that could cure migraines. However, this was not the
case. Hofmann decided to dose himself with the drug to see if it would help subdue headaches. He
quickly discovered that this new

Admiral Mcraven s 10 Lessons Commencement Speech
Every day, thousands of speeches are given. Some of those speeches are long and drawn out while
others are created in the heat of the moment. But, regardless of its content, there is a huge
difference between a run of the mill speech and a great one. That difference being its relevance,
memorability, and honesty. Admiral William H. McRaven accomplished each of those components
in his 10 lessons commencement speechgiven at the University of Texas at Austin in 2014. During
his speech, Admiral McRaven detailed his time in basic SEAL training and referenced the 10 life
lessons that he learned from it. He then ends the speech with a call to action that is met with a

As he spoke, the Admiral made time to humanize himself with humor and not be seen as just
another hardened military official. From his sugar cookie reference to showing off his UT pride,
his transparency with the crowd was on full display. By doing this, he was able to speak open and
honestly about his experiences and while reminding the crowd, once again, that he is one of them.
His style of speaking was the perfect complement to his speech topic and made him a trustworthy
source of advice for the young audience. In conclusion, Admiral McRaven s speech had all of the
factors needed to be considered great. From beginning to end, McRaven was able to capture the
audience s attention while delivering a powerful message that can be applied to any listener s life.
The reason for that being the case is that as humans, we all have challenges that we must
overcome. Even though many people possess the ability to do so, most are often defeated by their
own mind and thus never truly reach their full potential. But, after hearing a speech such as this, it

Artists would manipulate the antagonist in a way that was abnormal or unnatural. The optimal
example to use is the scene of Theseus and the Minotaur depicted on an attic vase. The Minotaur
was a being with the head of a bull and the body of a man or known as being part man and part
bull. Because the character of the Minotaur is so outstanding it aids in the telling of the story. The
fourth way to make sure a myth was portrayed correctly was to include an abnormal set of
circumstances that provoked an unforgettable scene. An example of this technique is in a section of
the Odyssey. This is when Odysseus is grasping hold of the under bellow of a ram to escape the
cyclops, Polyphemus. This unusual scene helps this myth become very much unforgettable. The
finale artistry that was used was the clarifications through a mythological series. With this method

Evidence Based Practice Examples
In order for Evidenced based practice (EBP) to be successfully adopted and maintained, nurses
and other healthcare professionals realize that it has to be adopted by individual providers,
microsystems and system leaders, as well as policy makers. Federal, state, local, and other
regulatory bodies are necessary for EBP adoption. An example of this is the mark of excellence in
nursing used by the Magnet Recognition Program (Stevens, 2013). The development of evidenced
based practice is fueled by the increasing public and professional demand for accountability in
safety and quality improvement in healthcare (Stevens, 2013). An example of federal program that
has emerged because of EBP is Congress funding the Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute

Testing the Effect of Differing pH Levels on the Heart...
The purpose of this investigation is to test the effect of differing pH levels on the heart rate of
bivalve mollusks. Mollusca can be classified by their soft bodies, head and foot regions. They
also generally have hard exoskeletons that cover their bodies. This is the case with snails and, of
course, clams. Bivalve mollusks have a hard outer shell and soft insides. Their hearts are located
towards the center of the umbo, which extends from the terminal end of the valve. The umbo is
also the location at which their shell grows. The gills of a bivalve mollusk are lining the interior
of part of their shell. Below the location of their heart is their foot, which is used to move or
attach to various surfaces. Bivalve mollusks have been around since the Ediacaran period
however, they only started diversifying during the Ordovician period. They themselves were
not the dominant species but others along their family tree proved thrive during this time. In the
present day, which was most likely much the same as in the past, the life cycle of a bivalve
mollusk consisted of growing, having children, and the dying. They are born as males, as is the
case of most mollusks, and later about half age into females. They eject their eggs and sperm
into the sea and new mollusks are born. There is no larvae stage in the case of a couple types of
mollusks so eggs hatch into smaller version of the adults that created them. In the other species of
mollusks eggs are born into a larvae stage in

When someone makes a decision or takes an action that goes against their personal beliefs, they
experience a sense of discomfort; this discomfort felt is due to cognitive dissonance. People may

unlikely to smoke a cigarette; if they do smoke a cigarette than they will experience some

I have adhd, often times it is difficult for me to keep focused on the task at hand. As a way of
helping myself get work done, and overall be more productive I created a Not to do list. This list
is a set of guidelines of things I shouldn t do while I work in my room: no watching Netflix
before 8pm, do not eat an excess or sugary foods, don t make a mess of the room. Now whenever
I do one of these in my room I experience cognitive dissonance. I made the decision to better my
study habits, and I stop doing the item on my not to do list. This has been immensely beneficial; I

Notions of Selflessness in Sartrean Existentialism and Theravadin Buddhism
ABSTRACT: In this essay I examine the relationship between Sartre s phenomenological
description of the self as expressed in his early work (especially Being and Nothingness) and
elements to be found in some approaches to Buddhism. The vast enormity of this task will be
obvious to anyone who is aware of the numerous schools and traditions through which the religion
of Buddhism has manifested itself. In order to be brief, I have decided to select specific aspects of
what is commonly called the Theravadin tradition as being representative of Buddhist philosophy.
By choosing to look primarily at the Theravadin tradition, I am by necessity ignoring a vast number

Secondly, Buddhism is a religion of many sects which differ from each other in various manners.
By choosing to look primarily at the Theravadin tradition, I am by necessity ignoring the viewpoints
of a vast number of schools which are considered Buddhist in nature. In my view, the Theravadin
sect presents a consistent Buddhist philosophy which is representative of many of the major trends
within Buddhism.
Sartre s method for explaining his position on the self is the phenomenological one, utilized
before him by Husserl and Heidegger. Phenomenology may be defined as the descriptive analysis
of subjective processes. It differs from psychology in that while psychology sets up causal or
genetic laws to explain subjective processes, phenomenology merely describes. Sartre points out
the intentionality of consciousness (a process earlier described by Husserl and Brentano).
Consciousness is always consciousness of something. For Sartre, there exist non conscious beings
independent and external to consciousness. This realm of non conscious beings is referred to by
Sartre as the in itself while consciousness is referred to as the for itself.
The in itself appears to consciousness and is the object of consciousness, but is transcendent in the
sense that it is external to consciousness. Consciousness is not only

Compare and contrast the poems Anthem for Doomed Youth by...
Compare and contrast the poems Anthem for Doomed Youth by Wilfred
Owen and The Soldier by Rupert Brooke. What are the poets attitudes towards war and how do they
convey these attitudes?
Wilfred Owen s Anthem for Doomed Youth and Rupert Brooke s The
Soldier express opposing views towards war and matters related to it.
Owen condemns war as the cause of immense and painful loss of youths, killed like animals. He
also attacks the church, generally held to preserve human life and dignity, implying it is
powerless and irrelevant in a war situation. Brooke expresses ready acceptance (his view is meant
to be the general view) of possible death on his country s behalf in grateful return to her for having

If Brooke had mentioned materialistic things like special rights, possession or power then it gives
rise to the thought that his gratitude is questionable, because he has enjoyed privileges denied to
others.
In the second stanza, Brooke whole heartedly declares that he will return to England what he has
been given. In his poem, Brooke doesn t criticise war or religion but emphasises whole hearted
readiness to return to England what he has been given. The spiritual being created and enriched by
England is returned gratefully. Brooke doesn t mention anything about the horrors of war. Even
death is not presented as something repulsive or of a loss but instead as a repayment to his
country. He feels indebted to England and is completely happy to settle his debt. He will return to
England what she gave him his
dust and delightful thoughts .
Brooke s poem has a confident tone of quiet conviction. The whole poem sounds proud and
dignified. Much of the time Brooke just praises
England and this makes the poem seem cheerful even. The first four lines of his poem are very
patriotic If I should die, think only this of me In that rich earth a richer dust concealed . Brooke
says these lines in a quiet confident manner. The tone lightens from then, as he describes pleasant
things like flowers , love and rivers . The beginning of the second stanza repeats the first line, and
continues with a calm statement of returning England s

Difference Between Private School And Private Schools
There has always been a large debate between private and public schools. Even though this
argument has been going on for a long time, no one can seem to figure out which is the better
choice. Some of the main things people tend to focus on when comparing and contrasting the two
types of schools are tuition, academic environment, curriculum, athletics, and how the students are
disciplined. Each of these is equality important in their own ways to people when choosing what
school they think is best for them. The first topic, which is very important is tuition. Tuition is a
crucial part of making a decision for school because that s where the money comes in. Academics
are also one of the main factors in choosing a school for a good educationis the whole reason why
people usually attend a certain school. Next are athletics may not be the deciding factor, but for
some people they base the school they want to go to off of how well the school s athletics are
doing. Lastly discipline is also sometimes considered because the possible attendee might want to
know how the students are punished. Out of all of these different topics to consider when choosing
a private schooleducation comes out on top for all of these because of the smaller school
environment and a more in depth attention to detail when dealing with students. Tuition is a big
factor when considering a school someone wants to go to. The main difference between public
schools and private schools when it comes down to

Introduction :
A team is made of two or more people who have a certain goal and work together for achievement
of that goal, The dynamics of working in a team are extremely important in a oraganization. In
school, in different activities, we learned the basics of working in a team. In order to work in a
team to be more productive and successful, you need to be able to accept the difference between
people opininons and to create balance between ideas.

Language Discrimination In Language
Language Discrimination Language discrimination is treating an individual unfairly due to the
features of their speech for instance, accent, vocabulary size and syntax. The growing Latino
population has been a cause or rising concern among most of the white Americans. This rapid
growth is viewed by the whites as a potential cause of the extinction of English and the way of life
in America. As a result, the whites have strived to discourage the use of Latinos heritage language
which has been discriminative (Barret 180). Despite the fact that language discrimination is being
fought against, it still exists in America. The linguistic profiling is as dangerous as racial profiling
since it denies one the opportunity to have equal chances of getting a degree, employment, a place
of residence and even healthcare because people use false general assumptions concerning a
language in order to justify the judgements concerning race, origin, religion, ethnicity and regional
affiliation than with communication and language. The two leading English dialects in Latino
America that is, Puerto Rican and Chicano English are viewed as substandard. Besides, they
assumed to have been highly influenced by African American English. This paper aims to discuss
language discrimination with emphasis on the Latino community, and how it affects the members
of the Latino community both in workplaces and institutions. In the USA, strong bonds exist which
tend to connect language and racism (Barret

Donald Trump Visual Analysis
Like, baby, baby, baby, oh I thought a Mexican wall would be fine, fine. As presidential elections
rapidly approaching, media s coverage of the political candidates has multiplied in the television
news, radio, and magazines. Comically, Media s craze over Donald Trump is portrayed in many
illustrations and cartoons to visually see the political disturbances between the media and the
republican party. Daryl Cagle, a political cartoonist, argues in his visual address, Trump The Media
and Republicans , on the nonstopping attention surrounding Donald Trumpand the lack of attention
to the urgent needs. Daryl Cagle published this political cartoon on Cagle Post, a website that
covers current political issues in a comical way, on August 8, 2015,... Show more content on

The fuming elephant in a black suit behind the media is a political representation of the republican
party and their growing frustration for unfair treatment as far as garnering media attention. The
placement of Donald Trump directly oppose to the republican party reveals that Trump is not an
acceptable Republican candidate as symbolized by him being on the opposite side of the elephant.
Furthermore, in the cartoon, the color choice also convey a symbolic message to the viewers. For
instance, the color light violet represents inferiority and insignificance (Colour Affect). the elephant
is illustrated light violet as almost as he is bruised to show how he is unable to captivate the media
s attention. The color yellow like the taxicab dominates the picture to grab the attention of the
viewers and to reveal the center of the issue, which in this case is the media. Symbols are used to
questions the media s ethical stand and Donald Trump s political approach. Why is the media
focused too much on Trump s sensational tenets instead of questioning his economic plans and
policies? The elephant s displeasure and the media s excessive coverages unrelated to politics
symbolize the political tension and the media s ethical downfall. Rather than inquiring Trump about
his future plans, the mass media is more interested in Donald Trump disrespectful and misogynistic
remarks. The media s improper actions represent their loss of moral integrity and their crave for
more controversial statements. In Hindu culture, the sun symbolizes knowledge, truth, influence,
and stability (Hinduwebsite). With this in mind, the yellow curved text bubble around the mass
media resembles the sun, which implies that the media is a huge influence on the American people
and that they provide

During the experiment the researcher explained the subject that first they will do a test, followed
by a warm up and after they will repeat the same test. The participants were very receptive,
following carefully what the researcher told them. When the test has started all the participants
lined up, being ready to perform. The timer has started and each and every subject did their best.
After the first test has ended, a warm up came next, where the subjects had to do jogging for two
minutes, high knees both ways of the court, heel flicks, sidewalk running, jumping jacks, and
sprints starting from a low to a high intensity. Some of the participants seemed very tired, saying

8. There were a few limitations found in this project. First of all is the small number of
participants. Second is the gender limitation as in this project was just one female and four males,
and it would have been better to have more females to compare the results between them, because
females scores are always different then males scores. Time was another obstacle, because if there
would have been more time the researcher would have done two or three exercises. In this research
project all the variables have been controlled, but there were a few unexpected variables: one of
the participants did his best in the first attempt, but after the warm up he performed the test just for
the sake of doing it, putting no effort in it at all, wanting to finish faster. Another extraneous
variable was the slippery floor which made some of the participants to add a few seconds extra to
their score.
9. As a conclusion this experiment has been very useful, because it showed that warm up makes a
difference in an athlete s life. By taking into consideration the scientist s advices everyone makes
their life easier, and have a better chance to win a competition. This research project should inform
not only the athletes, but the other people that want to exercise that warm up should be part of their
daily routine. As said in the beginning it was proven that warm up does have advantages when it

The Primary Causes For World War I
(Based on the World War I Video) What were the primary causes for World War I? (Franco
Prussian War; Alliances; Archduke Franz Ferdinand) The Assassination of Archduke Ferdinand
was a spark that helped light the fire of tension in the world, while the Franco Prussian war
helped build tensions and territorial disputes. What began the actual fighting was when Austria
Hungary and Serbia got into disputes. Serbia called Russia for help, and when Russia began
mobilizing for war, Germany declared War on Russia to help defend Austria Hungary. Why did it
become a World War? What countries and territories became involved? It was the World War
because it was one of the largest ongoing wars in history that covered an entire continent and
involvement even stretched across the Atlantic as the U.S. helped the Allies. The massive scale of
the war was achieved when countries kept backing up their allied nations and one by one joined
the war. Note the significance of the following: Battle of Tannenberg: Tannenberg was a German
victory in Russia that let the Germans advance deeper past the Eastern Front. Chemical Weapons:
Chemical Weapons were a new technology used in WWI that held great devastating power and the
potential to harass soldiers even in trenches. Gas masks were used to counter them and became a
mainstay of the soldiers armament. Lusitania: The Lusitania was a passenger ship that was thought
to be great enough to cross the Atlantic in a time of war but was sunk by a German

Stanley Milgram ( 1963 ) Essay
Stanley Milgram (1963) was interested in how likely people would obey an authority figure who
instructed them to harm another person. His study involved 40 male participants, aged 20 to 50,
who were recruited through advertisements and mail solicitation. Participants had diverse
occupations and educational levels. They came to a lab where they served as teachers in a
supposed learning and memory experiment. A simulated shock generator with 30 switches was
used. It was clearly marked with voltage levels and verbal designations ranging from 15 volts
(slight shock) to 450 volts (danger: severe shock). The participants task was to administer an
electric shock to the learner, a confederate of the experimenter, whenever he made an error in the
memory test, increasing the intensity of shock each time. When the participant refused to
administer a shock, the experimenter would give a series of prods to the participants to ensure that
they continue with the experiment, even if they reached the marked danger of a severe shock, or
heard the learner s screams and pounding from an adjacent room. The experiment ended when the
maximum voltage of shock had been delivered, or if the participant refused to continue any further.
The maximum intensity shock a participant was willing to administer before he refused to
participate any further was measured. The results showed that 26 out of 40 (65%) participants
obeyed the commands of the experimenter to the end, reaching the most potent shock

obviously not the reason he should be recognized, he deserves to be recognized because of how he

Criminal Responsibility In Criminal Behavior Research
Criminal responsibility revolves around intent, which is a theme in debate on culpability. The
study to be reviewed was led by Williams et al (2010), which found at the age of 16, 46% of
offenders interviewed reported TBI. The main cause of the TBI was violence. Reports of more
than three TBIs were associated with a greater proportion of violence in criminal offences,
suggesting number of TBI is positively correlated with number of aggressive acts. Research in
the past similarly indicates individuals who experience traumatic brain injury (TBI) are more
likely to commit future criminal acts (Raine et al, 2005). Individuals with TBI affecting the
frontal lobes are at an increased risk of impulsive aggression and reduced affective empathy
(Brower Price, 2001), characteristics evident in frequent offenders (Jolliffe Farrington, 2004).
This suggests an increased risk of criminal behaviour, post TBI, especially when the frontal area
is damaged. Thus, can TBI be used to reach the not guilty verdict in court, by reasons of
diminished responsibility or can it be argued other premorbid variables at work? I critique
Williams et al (2010) and propose when violent behaviour is the cause of TBI, there should be
consideration of whether the behaviour... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

there is a history of both criminality and substance abuse and should not be considered a risk factor

Principles for Leadershipthat Matters several years ago and it has become a top book on
leadership. I was very excited to read Mohler s work and gain understanding, insight, and wisdom
from one of evangelical Christianity s most foremost minds.
Mohler s intent is clear from the outset of his work, Let me warn you right up front my goal is
to change the way you think about leadership. I do not aim merely to add one more voice to the
conversation about leadership, I want fundamentally to change the way leadership is understood
and practiced. Mohler s work is an excellent source to understand biblical leadership. Most
leadership books are very cookie cutter and mostly say the same things. I have read many
leadership books and this book was honestly a breath of fresh air. Mohler s goal is to switch around

  • 2. The Rise Of Mt. Vesuvius Admiral Pliny watched from his mammoth fleet of ships as Mt. Vesuvius started to rumble. As he watched the menacing volcano, a looming mass of ash and pumice shot into the darkening sky. He could hear the screams of the citizens on land and the cries of their children as they tried to run away from death s face. Pliny had a gut feeling that this would not end well. He knew that this eruption caused the fall of the beautiful and innocent city of Pompeiiand of many of the citizens that occupied it, but still he wanted to save as many souls as he could. He sighed and began barking orders to the fleet and they began sailing to land, and quite possibly, their doom. Pliny died as he tried to help save people during Pompeii s fall. It was a disastrous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 3. Examples Of Power Struggle In Frankenstein Throughout Frankenstein, the growing strife between Victor and the monster is representative of a class war. This strife is due to the monster and Victor s conflicting interests and results in a power struggle between the two. This power struggle is similar to one we see in real life, between the bourgeoisie and the working class, as they have a similar power dynamic (Wilson 116). Since the bourgeoisie are credited with the creation of the working class and have control over many aspects of their life, they have immense power over the workers, yet the workers have the strength in numbers to rise up and resist the bourgeoisie. This power struggle reached a peak during the time of the Victorian Era, including increasing strife between both the bourgeoisie and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This resentment can clearly be seen in Frankenstein, it starts with the monster resenting Victor for creating him and creating him in a way that makes humans despise him (Shelley 85). This resentment against Victor continues to grow, especially after Victor refuses to build a companion for the monster. This is the brink for the monster and is when he truly begins to wage a class war upon Victor. Victor is also resentful of the monster. Thoughts of the monster have plague Victor throughout the entire novel, even when he was under the impression that the monster had been destroyed, during the winter after the monster s creation (39). Victor s resentment continues to grow as the monster begins to make his presence know in murdering Victor s family and friends. Like the workers, the monster is willing to do anything to improve his conditions, even if it involves waging a class war upon those high up on the social hierarchy. Considering that the monster and Victor become alienated throughout the novel, it is clear to see that they represent a class ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Discovery Of The New World The discovery of the New World brought many irreversible changes not only for the European countries, but to the natives of the land that was being discovered. The sense of exploration began expanding more and more among the European powers. Every time the explorers invaded, they would be more avaricious and aggressive against the natives of the land. Along with diseases and inhumane treatments, the European powers also brought education to the uneducated crowds of areas such as India, Africa, and China. The main intention of the foreign powers was to Europeanize the natives of these lands and enslave them into doing the European s dirty work. To attain such results, the Europeans tried converting the natives lifestyles completely. These conversions ranged from substituting the natives religionwith Christianity, to the way they labored, and to the way they portrayed themselves. All the changes the natives had to go through, are clearly seen in excerpts of Feng Guifen, Afghani, and Gandhi. Each of these men describe the different aspects changed by the Europeans, for instance Feng Guifen describes the education system brought by the Europeans and how that affected Asia. Afghani describes the input of science in Islam, while Gandhi describes the cold heartedness that has spread among the natives and how they have become civilized. The emergence of the European powers on territories such as Asia became visible especially in education. Once Europeans began taking over ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is typically used by black women but people of different ethnicities use this product to straighten their hair. It works by breaking down disulfide bonds bonds in bonds your hair which either loosens the curl pattern or by completely elongating it. This alteration is permanent and can lead to brittleness. (Types of Relaxers) The man behind the relaxer is Garrett Morgan. his discovery in 1909 lead to the growth of a multimillion dollar hair industry. Morgan opened a tailoring shop with his wife who had experience as a seamstress. Morgan worked with the sewing machines but often encountered issues with the needles scorching woolen fabric. • 6. Juxtaposition Between Good And Evil In The Characters Of... The chronicles of Beowulf are episodic and carries many conundrums. Specifically, there lies an enormous contrast between good and evil. The protagonist, Beowulf, is chivalrous, mighty, and loyal. By the same token, Beowulf s extraordinary showing of patriotism enables him to be the ultimate keeper of justice. On the other hand, Grendel upholds evil that is derived from pure envious. It is important to note, that Grendel expresses a high level of combat experiences, just as Beowulf, however, the wicked man uses his unwavering incitement for iniquitous ways. All things considered, the juxtaposition between the great Beowulf, and the relentless Grendel, has many significant distinctions between both characters, including, the contrast between honorable and villainous. Although, both individuals possess superhuman characteristics, the differences in Beowulf s confidence, ethics, and bravery will out match Grendel s jealous, irrational, and forsaken soul; As a matter of fact, the worthy warrior will be crowned victor because God does not let the nefarious waste away the righteous. Above all, Beowulf s rather extraordinary confidence, encourages the demise of any opposition. The noble warrior boasts of his skill often in Beowulf. In particular, Seamus Heaney affirms Beowulf s public gloat: I had a fixed purpose when I put out to sea. As I sat in the boat with my band of men, I meant to perform to the uttermost what your people wanted or perish in the attempt, in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. IDE Essay What is the link between production and implementation? I feel it can be described as a Development Environment. Can Development Environments manage various computer languages, in order to teach the fundamentals of programming? IDEs or Integrated Development Environments are applications that can help assist developers(programmers) with developing software. The first developmental environments were command based, and didn t look like the menu driven, graphical interfaces of today. In the programming world there was a need for a more responsive and visual interface. IDEs were created in the 20th century mostly in European universities. The purpose of an IDE I to maximize programmer efficiency by tailoring menus and shortcuts toward a specific programming language operation. IDEs can support more than one programming language, for multiple software projects. Introduction These are the steps developers use when creating an application using an IDE: 1) Create a project to analyze Design and Implementation of desired algorithm 2) Editing a project Generating the source code 3) Assemble a project Converting mnemonics into hex or binary; generates an objects file 4) Link a project Uses the object file and generates the binary code 5) Execute a project Perform the tasks specified by instruction codes 6) Simulate a project Execute the program on PC (also called the simulator) 7) Debugging a project Going through the program step by step to find logical ... • 9. Summary Of A Passage Of India By Quot. Forster A Passage to India, written by E.M. Forster, is a story of human relations between the British colonists and the people of India. Dr. Aziz, a native Indian and main character in the novel, is extremely frustrated of the way others think about these two cultures together. Some may say it s the position of superiority the British hold that the Indians perceive as degrading. Throughout the novel there is a clear tension between the natives and the colonists that relate to both fictional and historical events. There are several events that occur that demonstrate this cultural division. One event, for example, is when Aziz first meets Mrs. Moore, who is an elderly Englishwoman, and after they chat for awhile, he escorts her to a club that is strictly labeled whites only. In the mean time, the Indians are forced to stay outside as if some type of a subhuman being. It is this type of segregation that has been see in history time and time again that leads to racial tension. Its simply a problem of education because those who do not study history are bound to repeat it. In every culture , civilization, habitat, or locality, there is, or has been, some form of discrimination at hand. From what I ve experienced, I believe it is solely based off of change of normality. For instance, when British colonists first arrived in the New World, Native Americans had already owned the land. To the natives, this flood of immigrants was their cultural change. Had they not all been massacred and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Jason Terwiliger s Problems With His Restaurant At The... Jason Terwiliger, a new member of the finance committee at the Windshore Country Club, recently found some problems with the financing of the F B outlets. His upscale restaurant in the city is extremely successful, and he hopes to bring some helpful ideas to the Windshore Country Club s F B operations on the outskirts of the city. One main concern Jason has is all of the differences in the 4 F B outlets and that they all come out of the same kitchen. He says that the club s foodcost is at 42% while his restaurant is at 28%, which is a huge difference. Steve should respond to this concern by telling Jason that although his restaurant only has one outlet for his kitchen, most clubs have many outlets only run from one kitchen, and while he can t change that directly, hopefully other solutions will... He points out that the chef must make about 6 ducks early in the day to prepare the meal in case someone orders it, but often that food is thrown away and wasted. Steve should inform Jason that this may be more uncommon in the restaurant field, but in clubs, specialty dishes that are prepared daily are very common and also expected by members who want the best food they can receive. One way to eliminate such a high food waste for Steve may be to prepare less duck each day, and if they run out they have other high quality dishes to replace them. Another issue was the use of all fresh ingredients. Jason appreciates the quality of food but also states that frozen ingredients can offer nearly the same quality for some foods for much less of a cost. Depending on the quality of the country club and how exclusive they are, Steve may tell Jason that they can only use fresh ingredients in their kitchen, but may also take him up on his idea and incorporate some frozen foods in certain dishes. • 11. Multiculturalism Is The Preservation Of Different Cultures... Multiculturalism is the preservation of different cultures or cultural identities within a unified society, as a state or nation (Dictionary.com, 2013). Canada is a country full of many different ethnicities and cultures, but even though Canada is housing them, it s just not working. Problems in multiculturalism are most prominent in three areas, the communities, the schools and the workforce. Multiculturalism in the communities are facing struggle because of the cities appeal to new immigrants and because of the segregation in ethnic enclaves. Multiculturalism in the schools is evident when unfair religious accommodations are made and when schools are stereotyped based on the racial majority. The workforce faces problems in multiculturalism because of the employers employing visible minorities which creates segregation and because many immigrants credentials are being looked over and given worse positions. Multiculturalism is not working in Canada based on the discrimination, stereotypes and segregation evident in the communities, schools and the workforce. Canada accepts roughly 250,000 immigrants each year (Press, 2008), yet over half of the immigrants choose to live in one of Canada s three major cities; Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver. Studies found that people from the Middle East and Asia are more likely to live in urban areas while people from Europe are more likely to live in rural areas. This raises many problems, since the top 3 sources of immigration to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Scarlet Letter Superiority When we as individuals have the power to act, speak and think with restraint, which is what we consider to be freedom. America is routinely conceptualized, as a place that offers absolute freedom, where a person s chances in success are limited only by their capability and devotion not by social status, or race, or gender, or any other condition. Novelist, Nathaniel Hawthorne, in his paperback fiction, The Scarlet Letter, delineates an unpleasant society that strictly punishes sinners, as they are constantly watched they are not able to act freely as it goes against the nature of Christian thought, and the aftermath for social organization. Hawthorne s purpose is to channel the idea to his readers that, in his time period of life, social hypocrisy and discrimination very much existed. As he then begins to go into depth the universal human struggle he experienced, he adopts a moralizing tone in order to engage and develop the humanity within the readers themselves, despite the ignorance of humanity itself as well as the necessity to be the superior. Superiority and dominance is one of the most important aspects in the society that takes place in his novel. Hawthorne shifts to beginning his tribute to The Scarlet Letter by describing the very location where the Puritans settled, in Boston, and how they regard individuals of other human traits and religious practices as inferior. At the same time, he lists elements of nature in regards to mayhem that threatens the very ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Winter Blast Short Story You know that moment when you cross the finish line and the adrenaline and excitement rushes over you? And in the moment you think to yourself, Because I persevered, I accomplished my goals. That is exactly how I felt two years ago when I crossed my finish line... It started on a chilly February morning at my church s Youth Camp Retreat, called Winter Blast . My friends had tried to persuade me all morning to climb the two story ropes course, in the barn at the top of the hill. Come on Amanda, how do you know you won t like it unless you try it? Nora asked as she pulled on her tennis shoes. I just know, I m terrified of heights and I don t want to fall, I protested back as I crawled out of bed. After more persuasion and pleading I eventually gave in, and we exited our cabin and headed towards the hill. My nerves grew by the second as I neared the giant opening. We gazed upward as we entered the barn. Climbers of all shapes and sizes were many stories up, climbing through the obstacle courses. The barn was cold and dim lighted. The musty smell of the barn filled my nostrils. It made me feel as though I had entered a Haunted House. People screamed as the ropes above shook with the wind being brought in through the holes in the wall. New climbers head this way! Shouted a voice to the right. I turned and followed my group of friends over to the man talking. After all of the climbers were in a half circle around the man, he began speaking. My name is Westley and I will be your harness instructor. Wesley spoke about all the safety rules you need to know in order to climb; things like how to attach your harness to the overhead ropes and how to climb up to the next story. After all of the rules were shared and everyone got their harnesses on, we were released to go up to the first story of obstacle courses. My heart pounded in my chest as I neared the rope ladder going up to the first level. I took a deep breath. Amanda you can do this, I mumbled to myself as I put my hand on the rope ladder. I slowly climbed higher and higher until I reached the top rung. I took another deep breath and climbed onto the platform. As I stood up, a climbing instructor attached my harness clamps to the overhead rope. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, the Roman people did not have sugar and therefore did not manufacture or consume the marshmallows, chocolate, and candy canes depicted in the Candyland game. What the Romans did have, and love, was bread, so we felt it would be appropriate replace candy with bread for the purpose of our game. This change is even more fitting because of the well known phrase panem et circenses, meaning bread and games, coined by Juvenal circa 100 A.D. in his poem Satire X. The phrase is intended to illustrate Juvenal s contempt for the Roman public, who is so easily swayed to vote by cheap food and entertainment. In Roman society, providing bread and games became one of the most effective ways to rise to power. In 140 B.C., this policy had been officially put into place with the passage of the grain dole, or Cura Annonae ( care for the grain supply ). • 23. The Breakdown Of The Basic Nature Of Chinese Poetry The breakdown of the basic nature of Chinese and English lyrical relations shows that they can be distinguished from one another through the use of metaphor to evoke the relationship between scene and feeling and vehicle and tenor respectively. The Western poetry s use of metaphor celebrates the use of human deception through a made up connection between that which is being talked about (tenor) and the one who talks about it (vehicle). On the other hand, the Chinese poetrys relies on the metaphor to come up with the context of scene and feeling which involves the appreciation of the dynamic lyrical resonance between nature and the human being. Moreover, while the Western practice engages in purposeful process of conveyance to formulate such explicit correspondence between tenor and vehicle, the Chinese tradition is set apart by the spontaneous encounter that evokes the implicit correspondence between scene and feeling. This paper therefore looks into the use of scene and feeling in Chinese poetryand tenor and vehicle in Western poetry in relation to the metaphor with an effort to highlight their differences and application. Scene and Feeling relationship The term scene basically portrays the physical context that is described in the poem. This physical context usually entails descriptions of rivers, mountains, vegetation, and animal life among others (Yanfang 186). Non statisticians use conditional probability without recognizing it mostly when they make decisions or judgments, for example they will be less likely to lend money to people who borrowed his money but haven t returned the money back. Statisticians think of conditional probability in both logical and quantitative way. II. Conditional Probability for Statisticians For statisticians, conditional probability is everywhere. They will strictly define the events before computing the conditional probability and use the properties or Bayes theorem to find the conditional probability. Statisticians understand that conditional probability derives from the concept of probability. Probability is a number between zero and one, which measures the likelihood that an event will occur. The bigger the probability is, the more likely this event is going to happen. The conditional probability of event A happens given that event B occurs can be written as P(A|B)=(P(A∩B)) /(P(B)) where P(A∩B) is the probability that both events A and B happen, P(B) is the probability that event B occurs. The blood was tested and was found to be a match for one of the murder victims, Nicole Brown Simpson. To counter this evidence, the defense for O. J. Simpson called Herbert MacDonell to testify about the blood stains that were found on the socks in Simpson s bedroom. The defense wan t trying to deny that the blood belong to Nicole, but rather how the blood ended up on the sock in the first place. The compression transfer is said to be the result of someone placing blood onto the sock using some sort of device, and then removing it from the surface of the sock. Even though there was an influence of drugs on this young generation it did not mean they were any less capable to stand up and fight for what they believed in. The pricing structure provides foresight of future profits based on subscription levels. Increased monthly subscriptions have become more unattractive as other platforms for massive multiplayer games have moved towards free to play gaming and focus their revenue earning on selling in game items. Consumers have steadily started to consider other games that have no cost to play. Free to play games have been known to rise quickly in subscriptions while still generating revenue from frequent players. Repeat players often seek out premium items paid for with cash. These items create a virtual market for virtual items and provide value by making them premium items or services. Supply cost has decreased as technology improves and becomes cheaper in price. Supply for this market is based on the server performance with high volumes of users; along with, connection speeds for sending data back to users. Both of these variables are highly adjustable to meet minimum requirements. When servers or connection speed lack in performance, these types of games become affected by latency issues and make the game unplayable while online. In most chihuahuas the molera closes up completely by adulthood but some never completely close. The molera isn t a defect; it s more like a trait or a characteristic. If hit in the molera a chihuahua can die. Years ago, breeders and owners did not consider a chihuahua a true chihuahua unless it had an open molera. One common disorder that the chihuahua can get as well as other toy breeds is called the reverse sneeze or backwards sneeze . The sneeze sounds like a snorting, honking, wheezing and well sneezing. It is unknown the exact cause of the sneeze, but most vets say it could be from a sinus infection, small trachea or maybe an elongated soft palate on the chihuahua that becomes temporarily misaligned. The reverse sneeze can be caused by many different things like eating or drinking too fast or playing or pulling to hard on their leashes. The reverse sneeze can just simply happen out of the blue, and it s not a bad thing for the chihuahua. Tracheal collapse is common in the chihuahua because the cartilage rings that hold open the airway are fragile. To protect the chihuahua s throat and keep pressure off the airway vets suggest and ... Evidence Based Practice Examples In order for Evidenced based practice (EBP) to be successfully adopted and maintained, nurses and other healthcare professionals realize that it has to be adopted by individual providers, microsystems and system leaders, as well as policy makers. Federal, state, local, and other regulatory bodies are necessary for EBP adoption. An example of this is the mark of excellence in nursing used by the Magnet Recognition Program (Stevens, 2013). The development of evidenced based practice is fueled by the increasing public and professional demand for accountability in safety and quality improvement in healthcare (Stevens, 2013). An example of federal program that has emerged because of EBP is Congress funding the Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) with the following mission: The PCORI helps people make informed healthcare decisions, and improves healthcare delivery and outcomes, by producing and promoting high integrity, evidence based information that comes from research guided by patients, caregivers and the broader healthcare community (PCORI, 2013).... • 39. Testing the Effect of Differing pH Levels on the Heart... The purpose of this investigation is to test the effect of differing pH levels on the heart rate of bivalve mollusks. Mollusca can be classified by their soft bodies, head and foot regions. They also generally have hard exoskeletons that cover their bodies. This is the case with snails and, of course, clams. Bivalve mollusks have a hard outer shell and soft insides. Their hearts are located towards the center of the umbo, which extends from the terminal end of the valve. The umbo is also the location at which their shell grows. The gills of a bivalve mollusk are lining the interior of part of their shell. Below the location of their heart is their foot, which is used to move or attach to various surfaces. Bivalve mollusks have been around since the Ediacaran period however, they only started diversifying during the Ordovician period. They themselves were not the dominant species but others along their family tree proved thrive during this time. In the present day, which was most likely much the same as in the past, the life cycle of a bivalve mollusk consisted of growing, having children, and the dying. They are born as males, as is the case of most mollusks, and later about half age into females. They eject their eggs and sperm into the sea and new mollusks are born. There is no larvae stage in the case of a couple types of mollusks so eggs hatch into smaller version of the adults that created them. Notions of Selflessness in Sartrean Existentialism and Theravadin Buddhism ABSTRACT: In this essay I examine the relationship between Sartre s phenomenological description of the self as expressed in his early work (especially Being and Nothingness) and elements to be found in some approaches to Buddhism. The vast enormity of this task will be obvious to anyone who is aware of the numerous schools and traditions through which the religion of Buddhism has manifested itself. In order to be brief, I have decided to select specific aspects of what is commonly called the Theravadin tradition as being representative of Buddhist philosophy. Secondly, Buddhism is a religion of many sects which differ from each other in various manners. By choosing to look primarily at the Theravadin tradition, I am by necessity ignoring the viewpoints of a vast number of schools which are considered Buddhist in nature. In my view, the Theravadin sect presents a consistent Buddhist philosophy which is representative of many of the major trends within Buddhism. Sartre s method for explaining his position on the self is the phenomenological one, utilized before him by Husserl and Heidegger. Phenomenology may be defined as the descriptive analysis of subjective processes. It differs from psychology in that while psychology sets up causal or genetic laws to explain subjective processes, phenomenology merely describes. Sartre points out the intentionality of consciousness (a process earlier described by Husserl and Brentano). Consciousness is always consciousness of something. For Sartre, there exist non conscious beings independent and external to consciousness. This realm of non conscious beings is referred to by Sartre as the in itself while consciousness is referred to as the for itself. The in itself appears to consciousness and is the object of consciousness, but is transcendent in the sense that it is external to consciousness. Consciousness is not only ... Each of these is equality important in their own ways to people when choosing what school they think is best for them. The first topic, which is very important is tuition. Time was another obstacle, because if there would have been more time the researcher would have done two or three exercises. • 52. Criminal Responsibility In Criminal Behavior Research Criminal responsibility revolves around intent, which is a theme in debate on culpability. The study to be reviewed was led by Williams et al (2010), which found at the age of 16, 46% of offenders interviewed reported TBI. The main cause of the TBI was violence. Reports of more than three TBIs were associated with a greater proportion of violence in criminal offences, suggesting number of TBI is positively correlated with number of aggressive acts. Research in the past similarly indicates individuals who experience traumatic brain injury (TBI) are more likely to commit future criminal acts (Raine et al, 2005). Individuals with TBI affecting the frontal lobes are at an increased risk of impulsive aggression and reduced affective empathy (Brower Price, 2001), characteristics evident in frequent offenders (Jolliffe Farrington, 2004). This suggests an increased risk of criminal behaviour, post TBI, especially when the frontal area is damaged. Thus, can TBI be used to reach the not guilty verdict in court, by reasons of diminished responsibility or can it be argued other premorbid variables at work?
