Taking a Look at the Human Eye
The human eye is an organ that reacts to light and has several purposes. As a conscious sense
organ, the eye allows vision. Rods and cones in the retina allow light perception and vision
including color differentiation and the conscious perception of depth. The human eye can
distinguish 10 million colors. The eyeis composed of three layers, enclosing three transparent
structures .
The outer layer , called the fibrous tunic is comprised of the cornea and sclera . The middle layer
, called the vascular tunic or uvea is the choroid , ciliary body and the iris. The innermost part of
the eye is the retina , which gets its circulation from the vessels of the choroid and retinal vessels ,
which can be seen in an ophthalmoscope .
The blood vessels can be seen in the sclera , and a strong ring around the iris limbo . Within these
coats are the aqueous humor , vitreous humor and the flexible lens . The aqueous humor is a clear
fluid that is contained in two areas: the anterior chamber between the cornea and the iris and the
posterior chamber between the iris and lens.
The lens is suspended in the ciliary body in the suspensory ligament , composed of transparent
fibers . The vitreous is a clear gel that is larger than the aqueous humor is behind the lens , and the
rest is enclosed by the sclera , zonule , and lens. They are connected by the pupil .
As the eyes of other mammals, the ganglion cells of the human eye is not sensitive image forming
on the retina receive the light signals

The Learning ( Or Behaviourist ) Approach
The learning (or behaviourist) approach, at its core, is about how experience affects our behaviour
and how we learn behaviours. This approach postulates that all humans are born as blank slates and
we become shaped by the environment that the person lives in. Behaviourism is concerned with the
observable characteristics of humankind; their behaviour. This approach dismisses any internal
workings because these workings are too subjective and difficult to observe; whereas observable
behaviour can be scientifically and objectively measured, so more concrete theories can be based
off the research undertaken into behaviour. Unsurprisingly, the behaviourist approach works closely
with the experimental branch of psychology, and it also works... Show more content on

The process of this conditioning is associating a neutral stimulus (the bell) with a unconditioned
stimulus (the food) and unconditioned response (the salivation); this means that a stimulus in the
environment produces a behaviour that is innate, or natural no new behaviours have been learned,
yet. The neutral stimulus does not produce a response unless it is paired with the unconditioned
stimulus at the start of conditioning. During conditioning the stimulus that produces no response
(i.e. neutral) is associated with the unconditioned stimulus to the point it becomes a conditioned
stimulus. Often, at this stage, the unconditioned stimulus needs to be associated with the
conditioned stimulus on many occasions or trials for learning to take place. However, this is not
always the case; if a neutral stimulus produces sickness or ill health, then the association does not
need to be strengthened over time, because the response it produces is so violent. Now, the
conditioned stimulus has been associated with the unconditioned stimulus to the point where it can
produce a conditioned response. This association can then be generalized to other, similar objects;
as was shown in the Little Albert experiment performed by Watson, when the baby s fear of the
white rat had been generalized to other similar furry animals and

Part 1 A: Reasons why people buy sporting merchandise
The reasons as to why people decide to invest in sporting merchandise is mainly to support the
teams they admire and love. The behaviour of consumers is viewed as a rational approach
according to Belk (1995) (Book 4, Session 3.1). Consumers tend to make a numerous amounts of
decisions when it comes to the buying decision. The buying decision of sporting merchandise such

There are approx. 5 main factors that could be used to identify and analyse, these are Cultural
[subculture and social class], Social [reference groups, family, status], Personal [age, occupation,
economic situation, lifestyle, personality and self concepts], and Psychological [Motivation,
Perception, beliefs and attitudes]. Cultural factors can influence buying behaviour by the different
types of perceptions that channel through country to country. Top marketingcountries will always
spot shifts in different cultures to discover the needs of sporting kits and replica football stickers.
Personal factors such as the collection of football stickers are globally accredited by groups of
people ranging from young to old. Football stickers has been manufactured since the start of the
world cup and is known to have a high street value in sales. Marketers can use this to manipulate
consumers by putting duplicate stickers in packets making consumers who are deeply
interested in the collection and obtaining a fully completed book by purchasing more and more
packs. This has made groups come together socially by allowing sub cultured groups such as
kids to be able to trade stickers and rare stickers. People have also known to sell and trade
globally online using platforms such as EBay, Gumtree and Craigslist. The majority of collectors
are mainly males that also hold events in pubs/cafes who this to swap and sell stickers. [Case Study,

Support Alone Essay
The usefulness of just using support alone will only tell you how many times each item appear
together based on the transactions in the bakery. The support values are smaller than I expected.
The highest support is 0.053 (Apricot Danish Cherry Tart). So the highest frequency an item in
the bakery appears together is only 5.3%. This might be the case because depending on a
customer s sweet tooth the purchase may be different or the bakery has a different special going
each day. I do not believe we can judge itemsets just on support alone, again because it is only
base on when items appear together. For transaction number 113, it supports if you buy, Coffee
Г‰clair, Hot Coffee, and Almond Twist, it would have a 99.8% confidence that you will also buy
an Apple Pie. When we look at the lift, we see that we are 13.462 times more likely (confident) that

The reason why I would choose these is based on the confidence and lift. These rules seem like
they would be actionable based on each of these items appear together 2% of the time in support
data. The bakery can use these rules to help make a decision on what is needed or stock in the
store. It can also have Number 114 the support is 2% that (Raspberry Cookie, Raspberry

100% confidence that if the premises being purchased the conclusion will also be purchased. To

NAPLAN Response Essay
In regards to improvement, the NAPLAN results suggest that Nadia has improved 11.6% in her
reading from Year 5. She has also improved in spelling, with a 17.2% increase, as well as a 19.4%
increase in numeracy. These percentages all fall out of the margin of error, indicating an accurate
and sound level of improvement. However, Nadia s writingNAPLAN result indicated a 0%
improvement from Year 5, as well as a 1.5% decrease in punctuation and grammar. While the
decrease of 1.5% in grammar and punctuation is within the margin of error I would like to argue
that we should not be seeing a decrease in results at this stage of Nadia s schooling.
Grammar and punctuation was the only section of the NAPLAN paper where Nadia answered all
questions. This data gathered gives a sound understanding of her abilities. I would like to argue that
Nadia s grammar and punctuation is effecting her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The meta analysis of these studies found that method yielded negative results (Anderson, 1997).
This proposes that traditional methods of teaching grammar did not improve the abilities of the
students. Sentence combining by contrast provides a more effective substitute to traditional
grammar and punctuation instruction as it not only develops students written work but also
improve their syntactic abilities. Furthermore, a recent study establish that instructing students to
pay attention to the purpose and real world application of grammar and punctuation in the
framework of writing created stronger and more positive impacts on students written work (Fearn
Farnan, 2005). Largely, the studies on teaching grammar and punctuation suggest that,
unconventional methods like sentence combining, have a far more significant impact than those of
traditional means to develop the quality of students grammar and punctuation and subsequently their

there is not salty or spicy so according to me it s tasteless. One more thing to tell about
Taiwanesse habit is they only take a bath once a day in the evening. In the morning they wash
their face and brush their teeth and the ready to go to work, they usually have bao or in
Indonesia we call it bapao for breakfast. It seems strange to me at first but on the other hand it s
also weird for them that we Indonesian people take a bath twice a day. After several days we went
back to Indonesia, for me it s really an awesome retreat. I m not regret to go there. That I went to
Taiwan for retreat is wonderful. Being there for several days made me got a new experience and
knowledge even I had to take off from school for 8 days and when I came back to shool my class

Medical Research Experiments
Have you ever wondered how medicine has progressed throughout the centuries? Medicine has gone
from simple herbal remedies to powerful medications for pain and infections. Yet, how is it that
physicians know so much about diseases, infections, the signs and symptoms, and the treatment of
those diseases? In some cases, unethical medical experiments were conducted to figure out how
diseases were transmitted and the symptoms that people would present if they were ill with that
particular disease. This would then lead the physicians to observe how the disease would progress
from beginning to end without any medical interventions, which often involved letting the person
die. Then physicians might intervene with several medical interventions at different stages of the
disease, such as medication, vaccination or surgery to figure out when the interventions would best
be suited for that particular disease. However, does this justify the actions of the doctors and
researchers who conducted these unethical medical experiments? Many critics argue that these
experiments were not only unethical but also immoral. Yet, unethical medical research has greatly
impacted and contributed to modern medicinetoday. Due to these experiments several medical
discoveries were made, such as vaccinations, which have allowed our doctors to have more
knowledge on how to identify diseases and how to treat the patients, reducing the mortality rate and
allowing our life expectancy to increase. Although, the

Why Did The Big Bang Theory Exist
There are many possible conclusions that scientists may come to when looking at the universe s
beginning. Although we can not go back in time to look at the past, there are many logical theories
which could determine what happened. Throughout the many possible scientific theories for the
origin of the universe, the big bangtheory is the most logical about how the universe began due to
how the universe is expanding, leftover energy, and the abundance of certain elements. The big
bang theory is the leading explanation about how the universe began. This phenomenon shows that
the universe started in a small singularity which grew to what we know today. A singularity is a
zone of finite matter shoved into an area of infinite density. Scientists... Show more content on

In the Big Bang model of origins, it is thought to be that the universe was full of extremely
concentrated and unstable energy. In fact, it is assumed that the matter was so compact that one
teaspoon of space weighed 100 million trillion trillion trillion pounds, which defies the laws of
physics. Three minutes after the big bang, all the hydrogen atoms were created, and after some
more time, all helium atoms were created. If the conditions stayed at such a high temperature, the
elements we see today would be different and the conditions for life would not be met. The Big
Bang provides the most evidence for how we have such an abundance of these

Negligence in Healtcare Law
MBA 5101 Unit 1 Case Study Gary Campbell Our text defines a tort as a civil wrong and
negligence as a tort, a civil or personal wrong (Pozgar, 2012). Negligence as it is related to
healthcare is an unintentional commission or omission of an act that a reasonably prudent
person or organization would or would not do under normal circumstances. Not following a
recognized standard of care could be considered negligence. The case I have chosen to study is
one from the Circuit Court of Baltimore City Maryland and is that of Enso Martinez a minor by

Intellectual Humility And The Education World
Intellectual Humility in the Education World Every teacher has their own bias. The people who
write state standards and state tests also have biases. Students are biased on what they think they
need to pay attention to in class. Teachers, state governments and students each believe that they
know what is most important in their separate fields. None of these groups like to be told that
they are teaching, writing, or learning wrong. However, it is still necessary for people to remain
open to criticism because criticism may lead to an improvement down the road. But each group
needs another group to be able to call them out on these issues. This is called staying humble.
Intellectual humility is admitting to not knowing everything in a field of interest but still being
willing to accept criticism in order to further knowledge of a subject and become more capable of
doing a job better than before. Intellectual humility is combination of two things: common sense
and critical thinking. Common sense is a characteristic that people sneer at. Speaking from
experience, humans are prone to not listening to advice and doing what they think it is the best
option. When peers and teachers start listing off x, y, and z reasons for why what they are doing is
a bad idea, people without common sense will refuse to listen. Common sense requires us to look at
the big picture and think carefully through all the possible options and go with the option that is
most reasonable. This

The United States And Soviet Union Essay
The 1980 s were a dynamic time in the life cycle of the Cold War. The early portion of this decade,
which saw massive shifts in the administrations of the United States and Soviet Union, maintained
an atmosphere of suspicion, wariness, and skepticism. This theme of uncertainty and caution was
the logical product of decades of both American and Soviet duplicity, confrontation, and
militarization. Yet, despite this mistrust between the polar Cold War
belligerents, and contrary to the
early rhetoric of the Reagan administration, the United States and Soviet Union modified their
perceptions of each other s intentions following 1985 s Reykjavik Summit, which, despite
producing no tangible results, established common desire for arms reduction and a conclusion of
the Cold War. This warming of relations, however, increased at a gradual rate and encountered
significant hurdles as the two nations attempted to limit the potential for thermonuclear war.
Ultimately, Ronald Reaganand Mikhail Gorbachevs dialogue of the eyes transitioned from one
administration to the next, while also weathering significant domestic pressures as the United
Soviet Socialist Republic disintegrated.
Doubt and insecurity largely characterized the Cold War in the late 1970s and early stages of the
Reagan presidency. Following the rise and fall of dГ©tente, the collapse of the Nixon

The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien
According to Dictionary.com a leader is a person who rules, guides or inspires others . Often a
leader is more than that. Leaders care about the group as a whole not just their individual part.
They see the big picture and help everyone else to see it too. They are the one the group looks up
to and depends on. If the leader is lost almost always a new unlikely leader is bound to emerge.
Leaders often do not know who they are until they are put in a position where they must lead for
the success of the group. Leaders play a huge role in the book The Hobbit. Jack Welch summarizes
the leader s role in this book perfectly. Bilbo before he is a leader, Bilbo when he is a leader and
Gandalf s actions all relate to the quote Before you are a leader, success is all about growing
yourself. When you become a leader, success is all about growing others. Jack Welch Before

Future Development of Telepathology
With telemedicine becoming so popular in the healthcare system, it is not surprising that
telepathology is also becoming more and more popular. Technology has been, and continues, to
improve on a regular basis. Telepathology is not a new concept in the telemedicine arena. Even
with the wide availability to doctors and physicians, there has been a slow adoption of
telepathology in everyday practice. High operating and maintaining costs used to be the main
reason physicians gave for not accepting telepathology, but now most of the negative attitudes are
contributed to the lack of education and clear guidelines (Cross, 2002, p. 14) for new incorporators
of telepathology. There is no secret that the current system has problems, including incompatibility
within systems, and the expensive microscopes that are dedicated to telepathology, but future
developments are being researched and produced to help offset the high costs. Low cost internet
solutions, videoconferencing, integrated digital pathology workstations, and virtual microscopes
are just a few of the developments in the works. Low Cost Internet Solutions One of the most
ideal situations for the future of telepathology would be the creation of one universally
compatible system that wouldn t require expensive microscopes to be dedicated exclusively for
the field of pathology (Cross, 2002). Professor Peter Purness and Dr Jeremy Rashbass researched
the vision described above. They discovered that creating a new

Have you ever wondered what is it like to be insane? We often take our mental health for granted,
but the novel Life of Pi as well as the movie Shutter Island encourage us to look deeper within
ourselves and to truly be grateful for the fact that we most of us are mentally stable. That is just
one idea that these two works explore. What are they exactly about though? Life of Pi, a novel by
Yann Martelpublished in 2001, is about a sixteen year old Indian boy named Piscine Molitor Patel
who experienced a horrendous shipwreck. Shutter Island, a movie directed by Martin Scorsese
from 2010, on the other hand, is about a man named Andrew Laeddis who experienced his own
traumatic event. Both of these works touch upon the ideas of alter ego, the... Show more content on

It was therefore with this quotation that readers discovered that Pi s alter ego was Richard
Parker. In Shutter Island, Andrew also created an alter ego for himself. His alter ego was a man
named Edward Daniels, which was an anagram for Andrew Laeddis. As with Life of Pi, this alter
ego was not revealed to the viewers of the film until the end when Andrew faced Dr. Cawley in
the lighthouse. Dr. Cawley said, The names have the same letters. Edward Daniels has exactly
the same thirteen letters as Andrew Laeddis, the same as Rachel Solando and Dolores Chanal.
The names are anagrams for each other. In that moment, it became evident that Andrew had
created an alter ego for himself. The next similarity between the two works in relation to alter
ego is the fact that the main characters both used their alter egos to distance themselves from the
acts they committed. In Life of Pi, Pi used his alter ego to cover up his killing of the cook during
the journey on the lifeboat. Pi did this because he could not believe that he allowed himself to
stoop down to such low levels in order to kill a man. He expressed this when he said (referring to
the cook), He was such an evil man. Worse still, he met evil in me selfishness, anger, ruthlessness.
I must live with that (Martel 345). The way that Pi coped with his crime was by creating his alter
ego Richard Parker. In Shutter Island, Andrew similarly used his alter ego to disguise his

Country Music And Bernie s Song God Bless America
When it comes to singers, rappers, country artists, or anyone who makes music they are usually
about historical events that have happened in the past or are just happening me right now. In
country music a lot of the time they talk about things that are happening in their lives like break
ups, deaths in the family or just about what they are going through. Rappers are usually talking
about another rapper, but some times it is about the difficult times they are going through. When it
comes to hard core metal music or as people call it death metal they do talk about their lives and
how they are hard, but in some peoples mind it is hard to understand. All the music that people
make has a meaning to them in some way that only they understand, or you have to listen to the
lyrics very carefully to understand what they are talking about. During September 11th, 2001 four

The way that Bernie says Stand beside her, and guide her he just wants people to not give up on

Borge s Use of Berkeley s Idealism Essay
Borge s Use of Berkeley s Idealism
Jorge Luis Borges drew upon a number of philosophical and intellectual models in his writing,
one of which is George Berkeley s subjective idealism. In Tlön, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius, Borges
paints a picture of a perfect reality governed by Berkeley s idea that matter only exists in perception,
and in The Circular Ruins, he presents a man who creates a boy who cannot exist independent of
his perception. However, by employing Berkeley s logic in these stories, Borges is in fact denying
Berkeley s ultimate purpose: the justification of the existence of God.
In almost all of his work, Berkeley s fundamental goal is to logically disprove any thinking that
presumes the non existence of God (Muehlmann ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We may even assert that the existence of God is far more evidently perceived than the existence of
men; because the effects of Nature are infinitely more numerous and considerable, than those
ascribed to human agents. (Principles 109)
Borges uses the same theory and logic in his writing, but he aims instead to pick apart this
assumption of God.
The philosophy of Tlön, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius is described by one critic as a kind of ultra
Berkeleyan idealism according to which the only realities are mental perceptions (Dunham 36). On
Tlön, there is no concept of space or matter and, there are no nouns in their languages, only verbs
and adjectives. In effect, Borges uses subjective idealism to break down reality. Borges writes: The
nations of that planet are congenitally idealist. Their language, with its derivatives religion,
literature, and metaphysics presupposes idealism (Borges 23).
A system of geometry on Tlön rejects the principle of parallelism, and states that, as man moves
about, he alters the forms which surround him (Borges 28). This is perhaps an answer to a question
Philonous poses to Hylas:
Since all sensible qualities, as size, figure, colour, etc. that is, our ideas are continually changing

Public Employment Relations Boards ( Perbs )
Public Employment Relations Boards (PERBs) are federal government or state appointed agencies
that are responsible for resolving collective bargaining disputes, determining the bargaining units,
monitoring representing elections, selecting a bargaining agent and solving the employment and
labor related disputes of employees working in the public sector. Bargaining is the process
through which employers and employees negotiate the terms of work and set them down in a
formal contract that lays out all of the rules and regulations. Each side nominates a representative,
so both labor and management are able to convey their terms and conditions and reach a mutually
satisfactory agreement. Public Employment Relations Boards (PERBs) also ensure that the
employees of public sector departments are not at the receiving end of any unfair labor practices.
This paper will examine three Public Employment Relations Boards, the ones for California,
Delaware and the District of Columbia. The California Public Employment Relations Board is
responsible for governing a total of eight collective bargaining statutes relevant to public sector
employees of the state of California. These employees include those individuals, who are working
directly for the state, in the state s public educational institutions (schools and colleges), for the state
s local public agencies (each county, city and district), employees and interpreters of the state trial

If we break out the third octet displaying the binary values for each bit space this is how it would
be displayed.
128 | 64 | 32 | 16 | 8 | 4 | 2 | 1
This is our class C after applying CIDR notation.
128 | 64 | 32 | 16 | 8 | 4 | 2 / 0 = 254By borrowing the one bit we have changed our subnet mask from
255.255.255.0 to 255.255.254.0.
The next step is to determine what our Network ID s will be, and what our usable hosts will be.
This is done by going back to the binary. There are 8 bits in each octet which is in base 2 the
numerical value of the binary numbers. This is equal to 28 or 256. When we borrow the one bit
from the third octet we are now adding that one bit to the original eight this changes our binary
value from 8 bits to 9 bits which is equal to 29 or 512. This means that we will now have 512 IP
Addresses per subnet, and if we apply the formula 2n 2 this will give us 510 usable hosts per
subnet. We can then take this same formula without the minus 2 to calculate the number of subnets
that we will obtain from this calculation. There are still seven on bits to the left in this octet. This
is equal to 27 or 128. This means that will obtain 128 subnets with this CIDR calculation.
This is the default C before we borrowed the one bit in binary notation,

The Song Structure And Analysis Of Mystery Song 3
At first listen, Mystery Song Three was unlike anything I had ever heard. I knew it was loud, I
knew it was aggressive, and that was about it. We were challenged with analyzing a mystery
song by defining its structure, basic description, expression, and historical and cultural context.
Even without knowing anything about the song, you can find these elements just by listening
to it. 2. Song Structure A song s structure can be best described as its organization. I found that
Mystery Song Three is a ABABC modified verse chorus form. This means there was five vocal
sections with three different types of sections A the verse, B the chorus, C the conclusion. For
clarification I have named each of the five vocal sections as follows: vocal section 1 A1, vocal
section 2 B1, vocal section 3 A2, vocal section 4 B2, vocal section 5 C. The song began with an
instrumental introduction. At first, there was only the cymbals playing but very quickly the
texture thickened when guitar and drums came in. These were both aggressive and fast paced.
Section A1 was the first verse section of the song. Since this was the first time that the vocalist
came in we learned that the vocalist was male with a rough sound and midrange voice. The
instrumentation of this section featured a repeating guitar riff and drum sounds. Overall, this
section had an angry sound emphasized with swear words and angry lyrics, had a heavy texture
created by the guitar and drums, and had a fast tempo. This section was then followed by an
instrumental section to create a transition from A1 to B1. Section B1 was the first chorus. This
section also featured a fast tempo, aggressive guitar part, and percussion. However, this section had
slower vocals than A1. Additionally, new vocal techniques were used such as blues influenced
slides on the lyric No . Also the rhythm changed which emphasized the lyric burnt in to my skin to
further relate the anger in the song. After another instrumental break, A2 verse began. The melody
of A1 repeats with a very similar instrumental part. However, the lyrics from A1 are different, and a
No shout is added differing more from A1. This further communicates and anger and frustration
expression in the song. Following an

Humans massacred fellow humans. In an effort to prevent a crime on such a scale ever again a
group known as the United Nations created a document, Universal Declaration of Human Rights .
The rights set forth in this document attempt to protect all human beings. This declaration has
provided a basis for what is ethical treatment of humans. All humans use these rights to determine
if a person or group of persons is being mistreated. Among the first, and most basic, rights is the
right to life, in which all people are given the right to live and not have the opportunity seized
from them ( Universal Declaration of Human Rights 11). Despite this being a normality in our
culture, in India females are being killed solely based on their gender.
In India it is a societal normality to routinely kill newborn daughters by drowning them,

she has killed eight daughters in this manner (It s a Girl). Despite being more apt to survive in an

Civil Rights And Social Integration Of African Americans
During the 20th century there were numerous riots, protests, and boycotts fighting for the equality
and social integration of African Americans. Some of the stories of individuals endeavoring for
their freedom have gone down in history resulting in laws being altered, regulations being revised,
and unimaginable boundaries being broken. Sadly, in order to establish justice in this world,
violence and death usually occur due to conflicting ideals. In Southern Los Angeles, even after
African Americans were issued their Civil Rights, underlying racismconstructed barriers such as
racial restrictive covenants that ensured that blacks were still not welcome there. The two biggest
social disturbances that have taken place in the West have taken place in Los Angeles where
unemployment, overcrowding, poverty, and segregation have become increasingly prevalent. The
first of these social disturbances is the Rodney Kingriot of 1992 and the second is the Watts riot of
1965. The racial bigotry, which was backed by the racial restrictive covenants and racial
discrimination of LAPD throughout Southern Los Angeles; as well as the events that sparked the
Rodney King riot and the Watts riot; clearly illustrate the racial segregation and the overall struggle
that African Americans faced during the 20th century. Between 1910 and 1920 in what is

Oppression in Ibsen s Hedda Gabler Essay
Oppression in Ibsen s Hedda Gabler
One of the social issues dealt with in Ibsen s problem plays is the oppression of women by
conventions limiting them to a domestic life. In Hedda Gabler the heroine struggles to satisfy her
ambitious and independent intellect within the narrow role society allows her. Unable to be
creative in the way she desires, Hedda s passions become destructive both to others and herself.
Raised by a general (Ibsen 1444), Hedda has the character of a leader and is wholly unsuited to
the role of suburban housewife (1461). Since she is unable to have the authority she craves, she
exercises power by manipulating her husband George. She tells Thea, I want the power to shape a

Secondly, Hedda achieves a balance of security and independence by marrying a dull academic,
who is easily dominated and occupies himself rooting around in libraries (1466). But in doing so
she shuts herself within a passionless marriage as tedious as a long train ride with a dull
companion (1467 68). Finally, Hedda alleviates her boredom by turning to Judge Brack as a
confidant: someone with whom she can flirt and speak openly as an equal. But Brack is not a
loyal friend (1461); rather, just as Thea s husband finds [her] useful to take care of him (1458),
Brack exploits Hedda s isolation and powerlessness for his own pleasure.
Hedda s oppressed desires become destructive, first to Eilert and Thea, and then to herself. In
addition to envying Thea for her creative union with Eilert, Hedda hates her for taming a man she
idealizes as a rebel for his past licentiousness, defying social mores. After taunting the reformed
Eilert into a night of debauchery, Hedda imagines him returning as a Dionysian hero:
I can see him. With a crown of vine leaves in his hair. Burning and unashamed! . . .Then he ll be
himself again! He ll be a free man for the rest of his days. (1483)
However, Eilert s night of carousing ends sordidly in a brawl that ruins his reputation once again.
Hedda then modifies her first ideal and urges him to defy life itself by suicide (1495).

Engineers are usually great at solving problems and this is a huge part of a software engineer s
job. If you are hoping to take on this role then you should love a challenge and have great attention
to detail.
This is a very new field that has been developed recently. Consequently, there has been much
debate over exactly what a software engineer is and which disciplines the job is formed from.
For example, some say this job is much more focused on the engineering side of software
development and the theory that comes from this field. This is taken from the point of view that
software engineering is more of a science than anything else. However, others disagree and argue
that this job requires a certain amount of creativity and therefore some aspects of art are applicable.
It is also helpful to be aware of some of the developments in the field and some very basic history
if you want to be a software engineer. Early computers were controlled by internal instructions that
made them work and function in a very simple way. Operating systems were developed in the late

also significantly changed the software engineering world and provided a lot of job opportunities.

Gutierrez s Cross-Examination Of Wilds
Gutierrez cross examines Wilds, and questions him in a strong, suggestive tone. Her questions
are leading and complex; she ends her questions with were, they not or is it not. Gutierrez was
telling Wilds the information in a intimidating manner to scare Wilds to say yes, Ma am.
Additionally, Wilds responded to the questions swiftly at trial, which makes him sound credible.
Gutierrez continued her cross examination for five days like this and did not realize the effect her
harsh tone will have on the jurors and the nature of the eyewitness, she was cross examining,
whom proved himself more credible under cross examination, especially to some of the jurors.
Koenig brings this out and says: Jay doesn t crack though. He is alert, ... polite,

We Watched As A Class
A.The first term to be discussed is Group. States by Henslin as Set of people who interact on the
basis of shared expectations and who possess some degree of identity (145).
A part of being in MS 13 is that all people involved are one group. They all follow the same rules
and respect the same leader. In parts of the documentary we watched as a class, we seen how MS
13 is ran in some sorts like a business. Everyone in MS 13 has a job and duty to fulfill, and there
are consequences for not following the guidelines. Even though MS 13 members are extremely
dangerous people, they still show community and compassion toward one another. Also, the group
has to be kept by itself in some situations, for example, there are entire prisons ... Show more

B.The next term to be discussed is Status. Henslin defines status as Socially defined position in a
group or in a society. Each status has attached to it one or more roles .
When most people think of the word status, they think of where it places them in society. If you
have a higher status you might be considered a more important human being. If you have a lower
status you might be considered poor or in poverty . But what does it mean to have a status as a gang
? That questions certainly can t be answered by me correctly, however I would imagine in a
world of gangs having the highest status would make you the most feared gang. If you are
going to join a gang, it might as well be one worth joining such as MS 13. If MS 13 is
recognized worldwide as the most dangerous gang then they probably are! Having a status like
that on the streets would make other gangs stay away from you, as well as make people afraid to
tell you no or show you consequences. In the video we watched as a class police enforcement
coming up short every time when they would bust them for drugs or something else. It made me
wonder if the police really were being out smarted or if they didn t want to dig too deep into an
unfamiliar territory. Even though MS 13 is recognized as the world s most dangerous gang,
everyone seems to know little information about them. It is still unknown whether not

The Pros And Cons Of Nuclear Power Plants
For many decades, Nuclear Power Plants have become a growing argument between the educated
and uneducated. Some have grown towards the growth of these plants for their technological
innovations and environmental benefits. Others have walked away from the deal, repeatedly
exclaiming the risks and money that builds up over time. Though these problems remain open for
everyone to see, those arguments are outdated and overstated. In addition, there are far more
positives than the eyes can see, the negatives, however, are an eyesore. Nuclear powerplants will
benefit towns for the strict safety standards, the pricing of a nuclear power plant, promotional
factors, and land requirements.
Since the Obninsk Nuclear Power Plant opened in 1954, scientists and engineers have improved the
technology towards today s nuclear reactors. These technological improvements have made power
plants more functional through time. The article Advantages of Nuclear Energy mentions that It
[Nuclear energy] is very powerful and efficient than other alternative energy sources... many
countries are putting huge investments in nuclear powers... a small portion of the world s
electricity comes through (Rinkesh,2013). This citation shows the potential of nuclear power,
however, there s doubt caused by many people who aren t aware of the improvements of the
modern day nuclear power plant. The same article mentions, Developers of the current nuclear
power plants have drawn from the weaknesses of... disasters like

My Aunt Julie Is One Of The Most Amazing, Sweet, And...
My aunt Julie is one of the most amazing, sweet, and hilarious people I have ever met.
She has the most beautiful and kind soul. She was also born with a severe mental and physical
handicap called Cerebral Palsy. It is a condition that occurs when the brain hasn t completely
developed at birth, in Julie s case she was born prematurely and was also a twin, making her
even smaller and more frail at birth. Julie was born not breathing and the doctors couldn t get her
to start breathing for 5 minutes after she was born. She is now in her early fifties, but only has
the mental capability of a 78 year old child. She has been in a wheelchair for her whole life and
never even taken one step, she also has very minimal control of her arms and hands. Julie also
has a very hard time controlling her temper and her emotions, I can only assume that it is because
she feels as though she is trapped in her own body and will never be able to get out of it and feel
free.
Julie has this crazy love for Nascar and has never missed watching a race. Everyone has their little
obsessions, for my six year old nephew it is toy cars, my older brother it is playing the guitar, for
me it is Cadbury Eggs, but for Julie it is Nascar races and the Nascar driver Dale
Earnhardt JR. In 2013 my mom and I had decided to take Julie to go see the Daytona 500 in
Daytona Florida. This was such a huge deal for Julie because she had never been out of the state
of Utah let alone on a plane halfway across the country,

The Events Of The War On Terror
Miller Porter Sgt. A. Pedry research paper 9/11 was a major focal point on the war on terror. It
changed America in many ways. There are two main view point s that will be gone over in this
research paper. The first and the most vital will be cultural historical viewpoint because it
change Americas culture and how the viewed the world in a major way. The next but less
prominent is top down because in this research paper I will be talking about how the people in
charge reacted to the events that unfolded in 911 how their decisions shaped the world that is
today. These will be the historical viewpoints that will be shown in my research paper. The
events of 911 changed America culturally in multiple ways. It also brought American people in
the light of a new threat, terrorism. This changed America s outlook drastic. On September, 11,
2001,multiple Al Qaeda terrorists boarded three passenger planes and then hijacked the planes
and carried out suicide attacks against the World Trade Center in New York City and the
Pentagon in Washington, DC., killing everyone on board the planes and nearly 3,000 people on
the ground. A fourth plane crashed into a Pennsylvania field, after passengers and crew attempted
to take control from the hijackers. These attacks were symbolic attacks against the United States
and its people. Not only had it been a psychological attack, it was the first attack in a long time that
it happened on US soil. The terrorists were also making symbolic attacks

Eva a little bit closer to committing suicide by swallowing a huge amount of disinfectant and finally
leading to her death in the Infirmary in 1912 as the supposed Inspector Goole claims.

Increasing the Gas Tax Would Cause an Improvement in the Environment
Many people all over the world are concerned about pollution. Gasoline use in automobiles is one
of the major causes of pollution. When gasoline is used it releases carbon dioxide, methane and
nitrogen oxide. These are gasses that contribute to the Greenhouse Effect. The Greenhouse Effect
refers to the trapping of the sun s radiation and is also used synonymously with Global Warming
(greenfuels.org). Governments are trying to come up with alternatives to gasoline to improve or at
least not hurt our environment as much as gasoline does.
There are things we can do to help out the environment. One suggestion is better public
transportation systems. For example, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Instead, some train systems use electricity, which doesn t release the harmful gasses that pollute
our environment. The more people that use these public transportation systems, the less people that
will drive themselves to work and therefore less gasoline is used. Also, the tax money could fund
research to come up with better alternatives to the gasoline and vehicles that are used at this time.
There are new technologies in automotives out there now. For example, there is the electric car.
The only problem with this is that the car needs to be plugged in and can only run for four to six
hours at a time, making it hard for long distance travel. Another example is a vehicle that uses a
combination of a gasoline and electric engines. They call it a hybrid electric vehicle (HEV).
This particular vehicle used no gas while idling and the gasoline engine turns off while the
vehicle is stopped. As a result, this vehicle uses less gasoline and the tank lasts longer. The
electric motor boosts acceleration so not as much gasoline is used. The HEV has a regenerative
braking system that recharges the battery. This vehicle emits half of what an ultra low emission
vehicle does, so is much better for the environment. It is already possible that by the year 2003
this type of vehicle will cost less because of various state and national tax incentive plans to lower
the cost significantly. This has already been accepted in Maryland

Analysis Of Gibson s `` Television Special `` Polygamy On...
Gibson (2010) also frames polygamy in the context of women struggles and not being able to
control their own lives. Gibson gives his opinion on polygamy and how it violates the Christian
family. Gibson (2010) argues that polygamy came about because of systematic patriarchy. Gibson
gives information on Anderson Cooper s television special Polygamyin America, Cult or Calling?
which discusses the capture of polygamist leader Warren Jeffs. Gibson (2010) explains how
America s recent fascination with polygamy only covers one aspect of it referring to the main
coverage of modern day Mormon polygamy. The researcher also gives information on the change
of polygamous relationships over time. Gibson (2010) reflects that in modern day polygamous
marriages people are able to pick their spouses. Women are actually enjoying being in a
polygamous marriage instead of being forced into it.
Simpson (2007) elaborates on the culture and faith of most polygamous. The author states that the
history of Mormonism has involved to highly complex contacts and negotiations with non
Mormons in their attempts to convert, resist, or appease outsiders. Mormons have engaged in a
distinctive dialectic of secrecy and self disclosure. (p.11) In some cases, Simpson (2007) suggests
Mormons feel they are being forced to be modernized. Non Mormons in the Utah territory and the
United States saw Utah s acceptance of Mormonism and women as a shameful attempt to solidify
the church s political power.

Genre Films Predictability and Formulaicity Essay
Genre Films Predictability and Formulaicity
This essay shall discuss whether Genre films are predictable and formulaic , looking at the Western
genre, and using the example films of, The Searchers and Unforgiven . Genre is a fundamental
means by which we communicate especially in storytelling. If looking at genre in terms of Thomas
Shatz, he puts forward the theory of similarity and overlap. He adopts a thematic and ideological
approach, which identifies only two genres; the genre of order and the genre of integration. In this
case the Westernwould be categorised into the genre of order. This essay shall also look at how
genre films change over time, due to changes in society, as characters ... Show more content on

Within each of the films, the revenge narratives are both set around the female, as in The
searchers , Ethan and Martin aim to save the young girl Debbie, and in Unforgiven , Will, Ned and
the Schofield Kid aim to get revenge for the female prostitutes, this therefore shows how genre
could be seen to predictable and formulaic as these two western films show how they both follow
similar structures and narratives.
The theorists Propp and Todorov have focused on the similarity in narrative across different
genres. They suggest that genres that are different from one another in terms of visual, verbal and
musical signifiers operate according to the same narrative structures. Propp puts forward the story
functions of hero, villain and donor etc, and Todorov puts forward the equilibrium narrative
theory. These two theorists therefore show, how genre could be seen to be predictable and
formulaic, as both of their theories can be applies to The Searchers and Unforgiven , and they also
believe they can be applied to many other genres and films.
The characters within The Searchers fit into Propps story function as it is shown that, Ethan is the
main hero within the film, Martin is the main helper throughout the film and Debbie is seen as the
princess who needs to be saved. The same story function can

The Age Of Faith In The Middle Ages
The Middle Ages came right after the fall of the Roman Empire because of its lack of centralized
religion and its inability to deal with the raids of the nomadic and germanic tribes. Compared to all
the revolutionary advancements of the Roman Empire, many considered the Middle Ages to be a
big step back in lifestyle, education and technological advancements. The The Middle Ageshave
been defined as many things. It has been called the Age of Feudalism, The Golden Age, and the
Dark Ages. However, the Age of Faith is a more accurate title, because during the Middle Ages the
church was the main source of unity in Europe, the church was viewed as the most important and
powerful part of Europe, even more powerful than the kings and governments, and finally the Age
is Faith is a more accurate title because people followed the church no matter what, even through
situations as extreme as the Crusades.
The first reason The Age of Faith is the most accurate title is that during the Middle Ages the
church was the main source of unity in Europe. For example the chart of a manor during the
Middle Ages shows that a chapel was the only thing that every single manor had (Document 2). A
chapel was the one thing that connected every manor. Also according to the excerpt from the
museum The Roman Catholic Church was the single most unifying structure in Europe. It touched
everyone s life, no matter what their rank or class was or where they lived (Document 3). This
shows another example of

The Government And Specific Interest Groups Create Public...
In the United States, the government and specific interest groups create public policies to solve
internal problems and protect their citizens. Public policies can include any action, plan, or rule,
which relates to issues of domestic national importance. Once a certain issue becomes a concern
for a significant amount of people, it becomes a component of the national agenda, which is what
the public wants the government to acknowledge. Many of these problems are addressed because
they negatively affect a significant amount of people (Sparknotes: How Policy Gets Made). For
the past few years, one of the major issues in the United States is illegal immigration. Unlike today,
a person immigrating illegally was not a major issue years ago. Today unfortunately, there are so
many illegal immigrants from all over the world that it has become an issue no one can completely
control.
It was recorded in 2012 that approximately 40.8 million illegal immigrants live in the United States,
which makes up thirteen percent of the country. Data on the nativity of the U.S. population were
first collected 1850 decennial census. That year, there were 2.2 million immigrants in the United
States, representing almost ten percent of the total population (Nwosu, Chiamaka). What is the
total number of immigrants that have entered the United States since 2000? Approximately thirty
percent of the 40.8 million residing in America entered between 2000 and 2009 (Nwosu,

  • 2. Taking a Look at the Human Eye The human eye is an organ that reacts to light and has several purposes. As a conscious sense organ, the eye allows vision. Rods and cones in the retina allow light perception and vision including color differentiation and the conscious perception of depth. The human eye can distinguish 10 million colors. The eyeis composed of three layers, enclosing three transparent structures . The outer layer , called the fibrous tunic is comprised of the cornea and sclera . The middle layer , called the vascular tunic or uvea is the choroid , ciliary body and the iris. The innermost part of the eye is the retina , which gets its circulation from the vessels of the choroid and retinal vessels , which can be seen in an ophthalmoscope . The blood vessels can be seen in the sclera , and a strong ring around the iris limbo . Within these coats are the aqueous humor , vitreous humor and the flexible lens . The aqueous humor is a clear fluid that is contained in two areas: the anterior chamber between the cornea and the iris and the posterior chamber between the iris and lens. The lens is suspended in the ciliary body in the suspensory ligament , composed of transparent fibers . The vitreous is a clear gel that is larger than the aqueous humor is behind the lens , and the rest is enclosed by the sclera , zonule , and lens. They are connected by the pupil . As the eyes of other mammals, the ganglion cells of the human eye is not sensitive image forming on the retina receive the light signals ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. The Learning ( Or Behaviourist ) Approach The learning (or behaviourist) approach, at its core, is about how experience affects our behaviour and how we learn behaviours. This approach postulates that all humans are born as blank slates and we become shaped by the environment that the person lives in. Behaviourism is concerned with the observable characteristics of humankind; their behaviour. This approach dismisses any internal workings because these workings are too subjective and difficult to observe; whereas observable behaviour can be scientifically and objectively measured, so more concrete theories can be based off the research undertaken into behaviour. Unsurprisingly, the behaviourist approach works closely with the experimental branch of psychology, and it also works... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The process of this conditioning is associating a neutral stimulus (the bell) with a unconditioned stimulus (the food) and unconditioned response (the salivation); this means that a stimulus in the environment produces a behaviour that is innate, or natural no new behaviours have been learned, yet. The neutral stimulus does not produce a response unless it is paired with the unconditioned stimulus at the start of conditioning. During conditioning the stimulus that produces no response (i.e. neutral) is associated with the unconditioned stimulus to the point it becomes a conditioned stimulus. Often, at this stage, the unconditioned stimulus needs to be associated with the conditioned stimulus on many occasions or trials for learning to take place. However, this is not always the case; if a neutral stimulus produces sickness or ill health, then the association does not need to be strengthened over time, because the response it produces is so violent. Now, the conditioned stimulus has been associated with the unconditioned stimulus to the point where it can produce a conditioned response. This association can then be generalized to other, similar objects; as was shown in the Little Albert experiment performed by Watson, when the baby s fear of the white rat had been generalized to other similar furry animals and ... There are approx. 5 main factors that could be used to identify and analyse, these are Cultural [subculture and social class], Social [reference groups, family, status], Personal [age, occupation, economic situation, lifestyle, personality and self concepts], and Psychological [Motivation, Perception, beliefs and attitudes]. Cultural factors can influence buying behaviour by the different types of perceptions that channel through country to country. Top marketingcountries will always spot shifts in different cultures to discover the needs of sporting kits and replica football stickers. Personal factors such as the collection of football stickers are globally accredited by groups of people ranging from young to old. Football stickers has been manufactured since the start of the world cup and is known to have a high street value in sales. Marketers can use this to manipulate consumers by putting duplicate stickers in packets making consumers who are deeply interested in the collection and obtaining a fully completed book by purchasing more and more packs. This has made groups come together socially by allowing sub cultured groups such as kids to be able to trade stickers and rare stickers. People have also known to sell and trade globally online using platforms such as EBay, Gumtree and Craigslist. The majority of collectors are mainly males that also hold events in pubs/cafes who this to swap and sell stickers. [Case Study,

  • 7. Support Alone Essay The usefulness of just using support alone will only tell you how many times each item appear together based on the transactions in the bakery. The support values are smaller than I expected. The highest support is 0.053 (Apricot Danish Cherry Tart). So the highest frequency an item in the bakery appears together is only 5.3%. This might be the case because depending on a customer s sweet tooth the purchase may be different or the bakery has a different special going each day. I do not believe we can judge itemsets just on support alone, again because it is only base on when items appear together. For transaction number 113, it supports if you buy, Coffee Г‰clair, Hot Coffee, and Almond Twist, it would have a 99.8% confidence that you will also buy an Apple Pie. • 8. NAPLAN Response Essay In regards to improvement, the NAPLAN results suggest that Nadia has improved 11.6% in her reading from Year 5. She has also improved in spelling, with a 17.2% increase, as well as a 19.4% increase in numeracy. These percentages all fall out of the margin of error, indicating an accurate and sound level of improvement. However, Nadia s writingNAPLAN result indicated a 0% improvement from Year 5, as well as a 1.5% decrease in punctuation and grammar. While the decrease of 1.5% in grammar and punctuation is within the margin of error I would like to argue that we should not be seeing a decrease in results at this stage of Nadia s schooling. Grammar and punctuation was the only section of the NAPLAN paper where Nadia answered all questions. This data gathered gives a sound understanding of her abilities. This proposes that traditional methods of teaching grammar did not improve the abilities of the students. Sentence combining by contrast provides a more effective substitute to traditional grammar and punctuation instruction as it not only develops students written work but also improve their syntactic abilities. Furthermore, a recent study establish that instructing students to pay attention to the purpose and real world application of grammar and punctuation in the framework of writing created stronger and more positive impacts on students written work (Fearn Farnan, 2005). Largely, the studies on teaching grammar and punctuation suggest that, unconventional methods like sentence combining, have a far more significant impact than those of traditional means to develop the quality of students grammar and punctuation and subsequently their ... • 12. Medical Research Experiments Have you ever wondered how medicine has progressed throughout the centuries? Medicine has gone from simple herbal remedies to powerful medications for pain and infections. Yet, how is it that physicians know so much about diseases, infections, the signs and symptoms, and the treatment of those diseases? In some cases, unethical medical experiments were conducted to figure out how diseases were transmitted and the symptoms that people would present if they were ill with that particular disease. This would then lead the physicians to observe how the disease would progress from beginning to end without any medical interventions, which often involved letting the person die. Then physicians might intervene with several medical interventions at different stages of the disease, such as medication, vaccination or surgery to figure out when the interventions would best be suited for that particular disease. However, does this justify the actions of the doctors and researchers who conducted these unethical medical experiments? Many critics argue that these experiments were not only unethical but also immoral. Yet, unethical medical research has greatly impacted and contributed to modern medicinetoday. Due to these experiments several medical discoveries were made, such as vaccinations, which have allowed our doctors to have more knowledge on how to identify diseases and how to treat the patients, reducing the mortality rate and allowing our life expectancy to increase. Although we can not go back in time to look at the past, there are many logical theories which could determine what happened. Throughout the many possible scientific theories for the origin of the universe, the big bangtheory is the most logical about how the universe began due to how the universe is expanding, leftover energy, and the abundance of certain elements. Negligence as it is related to healthcare is an unintentional commission or omission of an act that a reasonably prudent person or organization would or would not do under normal circumstances. Not following a recognized standard of care could be considered negligence. The case I have chosen to study is one from the Circuit Court of Baltimore City Maryland and is that of Enso Martinez a minor by and through his parent (Rebecca Fielding) vs The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore Maryland July 2013. Second, Midwife Muhlhan injected Fielding multiple times with Pitocin, a hormone that increases the strength and frequency of contractions. Third, misjudging the state of her labor, Ms. Muhlhan performed an episiotomy, which is a procedure performed upon immediate delivery in which the perineum is cut in order to enlarge the vaginal opening. Finally, Ms. Muhlhan directed Fielding to cleanse herself with a probiotic treatment, as an alternative to taking antibiotics, in order to prevent the potentially fatal transmission of Group B streptococcus bacteria (for which she had tested positive), to the baby during labor and delivery. After providing these treatments, Midwife Muhlhan decided it was time to go to the hospital. Midwife Muhlhan sutured the episiotomy and called an ambulance. • 16. Intellectual Humility And The Education World Intellectual Humility in the Education World Every teacher has their own bias. The people who write state standards and state tests also have biases. Students are biased on what they think they need to pay attention to in class. Teachers, state governments and students each believe that they know what is most important in their separate fields. None of these groups like to be told that they are teaching, writing, or learning wrong. However, it is still necessary for people to remain open to criticism because criticism may lead to an improvement down the road. But each group needs another group to be able to call them out on these issues. This is called staying humble. Intellectual humility is admitting to not knowing everything in a field of interest but still being willing to accept criticism in order to further knowledge of a subject and become more capable of doing a job better than before. Intellectual humility is combination of two things: common sense and critical thinking. Common sense is a characteristic that people sneer at. Speaking from experience, humans are prone to not listening to advice and doing what they think it is the best option. When peers and teachers start listing off x, y, and z reasons for why what they are doing is a bad idea, people without common sense will refuse to listen. Common sense requires us to look at the big picture and think carefully through all the possible options and go with the option that is most reasonable. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 17. The United States And Soviet Union Essay The 1980 s were a dynamic time in the life cycle of the Cold War. The early portion of this decade, which saw massive shifts in the administrations of the United States and Soviet Union, maintained an atmosphere of suspicion, wariness, and skepticism. This theme of uncertainty and caution was the logical product of decades of both American and Soviet duplicity, confrontation, and militarization. Yet, despite this mistrust between the polar Cold War belligerents, and contrary to the early rhetoric of the Reagan administration, the United States and Soviet Union modified their perceptions of each other s intentions following 1985 s Reykjavik Summit, which, despite producing no tangible results, established common desire for arms reduction and a conclusion of the Cold War. This warming of relations, however, increased at a gradual rate and encountered significant hurdles as the two nations attempted to limit the potential for thermonuclear war. Ultimately, Ronald Reaganand Mikhail Gorbachevs dialogue of the eyes transitioned from one administration to the next, while also weathering significant domestic pressures as the United Soviet Socialist Republic disintegrated. Doubt and insecurity largely characterized the Cold War in the late 1970s and early stages of the Reagan presidency. • 19. The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien According to Dictionary.com a leader is a person who rules, guides or inspires others . Often a leader is more than that. Leaders care about the group as a whole not just their individual part. They see the big picture and help everyone else to see it too. They are the one the group looks up to and depends on. If the leader is lost almost always a new unlikely leader is bound to emerge. Leaders often do not know who they are until they are put in a position where they must lead for the success of the group. Leaders play a huge role in the book The Hobbit. Jack Welch summarizes the leader s role in this book perfectly. Technology has been, and continues, to improve on a regular basis. Telepathology is not a new concept in the telemedicine arena. Even with the wide availability to doctors and physicians, there has been a slow adoption of telepathology in everyday practice. High operating and maintaining costs used to be the main reason physicians gave for not accepting telepathology, but now most of the negative attitudes are contributed to the lack of education and clear guidelines (Cross, 2002, p. 14) for new incorporators of telepathology. There is no secret that the current system has problems, including incompatibility within systems, and the expensive microscopes that are dedicated to telepathology, but future developments are being researched and produced to help offset the high costs. Low cost internet solutions, videoconferencing, integrated digital pathology workstations, and virtual microscopes are just a few of the developments in the works. Low Cost Internet Solutions One of the most ideal situations for the future of telepathology would be the creation of one universally compatible system that wouldn t require expensive microscopes to be dedicated exclusively for the field of pathology (Cross, 2002). We often take our mental health for granted, but the novel Life of Pi as well as the movie Shutter Island encourage us to look deeper within ourselves and to truly be grateful for the fact that we most of us are mentally stable. That is just one idea that these two works explore. What are they exactly about though? Life of Pi, a novel by Yann Martelpublished in 2001, is about a sixteen year old Indian boy named Piscine Molitor Patel who experienced a horrendous shipwreck. Shutter Island, a movie directed by Martin Scorsese from 2010, on the other hand, is about a man named Andrew Laeddis who experienced his own traumatic event. It was therefore with this quotation that readers discovered that Pi s alter ego was Richard Parker. In Shutter Island, Andrew also created an alter ego for himself. His alter ego was a man named Edward Daniels, which was an anagram for Andrew Laeddis. As with Life of Pi, this alter ego was not revealed to the viewers of the film until the end when Andrew faced Dr. Cawley in the lighthouse. Dr. Cawley said, The names have the same letters. Edward Daniels has exactly the same thirteen letters as Andrew Laeddis, the same as Rachel Solando and Dolores Chanal. The names are anagrams for each other. In that moment, it became evident that Andrew had created an alter ego for himself. The next similarity between the two works in relation to alter ego is the fact that the main characters both used their alter egos to distance themselves from the acts they committed. In Life of Pi, Pi used his alter ego to cover up his killing of the cook during the journey on the lifeboat. Pi did this because he could not believe that he allowed himself to stoop down to such low levels in order to kill a man. He expressed this when he said (referring to the cook), He was such an evil man. Worse still, he met evil in me selfishness, anger, ruthlessness. I must live with that (Martel 345). Borge s Use of Berkeley s Idealism Essay Borge s Use of Berkeley s Idealism Jorge Luis Borges drew upon a number of philosophical and intellectual models in his writing, one of which is George Berkeley s subjective idealism. In TlГ¶n, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius, Borges paints a picture of a perfect reality governed by Berkeley s idea that matter only exists in perception, and in The Circular Ruins, he presents a man who creates a boy who cannot exist independent of his perception. However, by employing Berkeley s logic in these stories, Borges is in fact denying Berkeley s ultimate purpose: the justification of the existence of God. In almost all of his work, Berkeley s fundamental goal is to logically disprove any thinking that presumes the non existence of God (Muehlmann ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We may even assert that the existence of God is far more evidently perceived than the existence of men; because the effects of Nature are infinitely more numerous and considerable, than those ascribed to human agents. (Principles 109) Borges uses the same theory and logic in his writing, but he aims instead to pick apart this assumption of God. The philosophy of TlГ¶n, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius is described by one critic as a kind of ultra Berkeleyan idealism according to which the only realities are mental perceptions (Dunham 36). On TlГ¶n, there is no concept of space or matter and, there are no nouns in their languages, only verbs and adjectives. In effect, Borges uses subjective idealism to break down reality. Borges writes: The nations of that planet are congenitally idealist. Their language, with its derivatives religion, literature, and metaphysics presupposes idealism (Borges 23). A system of geometry on TlГ¶n rejects the principle of parallelism, and states that, as man moves about, he alters the forms which surround him (Borges 28). Public Employment Relations Boards ( Perbs ) Public Employment Relations Boards (PERBs) are federal government or state appointed agencies that are responsible for resolving collective bargaining disputes, determining the bargaining units, monitoring representing elections, selecting a bargaining agent and solving the employment and labor related disputes of employees working in the public sector. Bargaining is the process through which employers and employees negotiate the terms of work and set them down in a formal contract that lays out all of the rules and regulations. The next step is to determine what our Network ID s will be, and what our usable hosts will be. This is done by going back to the binary. There are 8 bits in each octet which is in base 2 the numerical value of the binary numbers. This is equal to 28 or 256. When we borrow the one bit from the third octet we are now adding that one bit to the original eight this changes our binary value from 8 bits to 9 bits which is equal to 29 or 512. This means that we will now have 512 IP Addresses per subnet, and if we apply the formula 2n 2 this will give us 510 usable hosts per subnet. We can then take this same formula without the minus 2 to calculate the number of subnets that we will obtain from this calculation. There are still seven on bits to the left in this octet. This is equal to 27 or 128. This means that will obtain 128 subnets with this CIDR calculation. I knew it was loud, I knew it was aggressive, and that was about it. We were challenged with analyzing a mystery song by defining its structure, basic description, expression, and historical and cultural context. Even without knowing anything about the song, you can find these elements just by listening to it. 2. Song Structure A song s structure can be best described as its organization. I found that Mystery Song Three is a ABABC modified verse chorus form. This means there was five vocal sections with three different types of sections A the verse, B the chorus, C the conclusion. For clarification I have named each of the five vocal sections as follows: vocal section 1 A1, vocal section 2 B1, vocal section 3 A2, vocal section 4 B2, vocal section 5 C. The song began with an instrumental introduction. At first, there was only the cymbals playing but very quickly the texture thickened when guitar and drums came in. These were both aggressive and fast paced. Section A1 was the first verse section of the song. Since this was the first time that the vocalist came in we learned that the vocalist was male with a rough sound and midrange voice. The instrumentation of this section featured a repeating guitar riff and drum sounds. Overall, this section had an angry sound emphasized with swear words and angry lyrics, had a heavy texture created by the guitar and drums, and had a fast tempo. This section was then followed by an instrumental section to create a transition from A1 to B1. Section B1 was the first chorus. This section also featured a fast tempo, aggressive guitar part, and percussion. However, this section had slower vocals than A1. Additionally, new vocal techniques were used such as blues influenced slides on the lyric No . Also the rhythm changed which emphasized the lyric burnt in to my skin to further relate the anger in the song. After another instrumental break, A2 verse began. The melody of A1 repeats with a very similar instrumental part. However, the lyrics from A1 are different, and a No shout is added differing more from A1. This further communicates and anger and frustration expression in the song. Following an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 35. Civil Rights And Social Integration Of African Americans During the 20th century there were numerous riots, protests, and boycotts fighting for the equality and social integration of African Americans. Some of the stories of individuals endeavoring for their freedom have gone down in history resulting in laws being altered, regulations being revised, and unimaginable boundaries being broken. Sadly, in order to establish justice in this world, violence and death usually occur due to conflicting ideals. In Southern Los Angeles, even after African Americans were issued their Civil Rights, underlying racismconstructed barriers such as racial restrictive covenants that ensured that blacks were still not welcome there. The two biggest social disturbances that have taken place in the West have taken place in Los Angeles where unemployment, overcrowding, poverty, and segregation have become increasingly prevalent. The first of these social disturbances is the Rodney Kingriot of 1992 and the second is the Watts riot of 1965. The racial bigotry, which was backed by the racial restrictive covenants and racial discrimination of LAPD throughout Southern Los Angeles; as well as the events that sparked the Rodney King riot and the Watts riot; clearly illustrate the racial segregation and the overall struggle that African Americans faced during the 20th century. Oppression in Ibsen s Hedda Gabler Essay Oppression in Ibsen s Hedda Gabler One of the social issues dealt with in Ibsen s problem plays is the oppression of women by conventions limiting them to a domestic life. In Hedda Gabler the heroine struggles to satisfy her ambitious and independent intellect within the narrow role society allows her. Unable to be creative in the way she desires, Hedda s passions become destructive both to others and herself. Raised by a general (Ibsen 1444), Hedda has the character of a leader and is wholly unsuited to the role of suburban housewife (1461). Finally, Hedda alleviates her boredom by turning to Judge Brack as a confidant: someone with whom she can flirt and speak openly as an equal. But Brack is not a loyal friend (1461); rather, just as Thea s husband finds [her] useful to take care of him (1458), Brack exploits Hedda s isolation and powerlessness for his own pleasure. Hedda s oppressed desires become destructive, first to Eilert and Thea, and then to herself. In addition to envying Thea for her creative union with Eilert, Hedda hates her for taming a man she idealizes as a rebel for his past licentiousness, defying social mores. After taunting the reformed Eilert into a night of debauchery, Hedda imagines him returning as a Dionysian hero: I can see him. With a crown of vine leaves in his hair. Burning and unashamed! . . .Then he ll be himself again! He ll be a free man for the rest of his days.
