Burkitt Lymphoma Essay
Burkitt s lymphoma is a very aggressive form of B cell non Hodgkin lymphoma. The disease is
related with Epstein Barr virus and was one of the first tumours shown to have a chromosomal
translocation. The Burkitt s lymphoma disease is the most common childhood cancer where
malaria is predominantly an epidemic. About10% of all malignant diseases in children under 15
years of age. Disease is very common in those whose immune systemis not functionally efficient.
With the help of intensive chemotherapy, children are in better health. On the other hand, children
in third world countries are not as aggressive in treatment of Burkitt s lymphoma. The right
prognosis helps doctors evaluate the initial steps of Burkitt s lymphoma.... Show more content on

(1) The observation and description of the lymphoma named after Dennis Burkitt in 1964 was a
major breakthrough in virology and in cancer research. It led to the discovery that all humans
carry a DNA virus that can transform B lymphocytes, named after its discoverers Epstein Barr
Virus, (EBV) , this is virus which causes glandular fever; however, the virus carrying state is
mostly harmless. This is due to two main aspects of the complex host virus and host cell and virus
interactions. According to Epstein The gene expressions strategy of the virus adjusts it to various
cellular environments that together with our immune response establish a finely poised balance of
the virus carrying state, limiting the proliferation of the virally infected cells. Activation of the c
myc ontogeny by chromosomal translocation is the key event in this malignancy. Burkitt
lymphoma was called the Rosetta Stone of EBV biology, and the stalking horse of cancer research.
(2) Points discussed in the reviews touch on the history of the discoveries of the lymphoma and of
the virus, the expression types of the EBV encoded proteins in cells with latent infection, the pivotal
role and functional consequences of the lg/myc translocation the success of immune surveillance,
and the crippling of the major apoptotic pathways. (3)

Jordan Peele Get Out Analysis
Have you ever considered why you feel a powerful desire for horror films? According to Stephen
King, we crave horror films to show we are not afraid, to re establish our sense of normality, and
to give an outlet to our anti civilization emotions. (Why We Crave Horror Films) Jordan Peele s
film challenges white people, who live in social environments, protected and isolated from race
based stress. They re provided with racial comfort, yet they have a lower tolerance for racial
pressure. Jordan Peele s film, deals with the more common forms of racism, but it focuses more
on the progressive liberal whites and how they contribute to silencing African Americans, causing
them to be trapped in the sunken place. Get Out follows the story of Chris, a young black man
who has been dating Rose, a young white girl for five months. Rose takes Chris to meet her
parents Missy and Dean who seem totally normal at first. Chris starts to get creeped out by
everything happening at the Armitage house. Chris wonders if these things are actually happening
or he is just being paranoid. According to critiques the film Get Out is classified as a horror film.
Missy uses hypnosis to deprive her victims of their will causing zombie ism in the film. In Get
Out, the protagonist Chris, a young black man, is a New York City photographer. I feel that
anyone who finds themselves in the same situation as Chris would do everything in their power to
escape from the evildoers. In the film,

The Four Gospels Compare And Contrast
Gospel is an old English word meaning good news. When comparing the four gospels they are all
unified, but each gospel can have slight differences to them. Whether is literary structure, length,
how many teachings, important events, different significance, geography or chronology; they all
are correlated to tell us Jesusstory, in their own way. In like manner, God didn t give us one
explanation from an confined individual. Rather, God educates us about the broad richness of Jesus
life through a numerous prophet witnesses. Moreover, God works through well documented and a
valid history, not through confidential revelations to a single person. The prophetic witnesses of the
Gospels endorse the truth that God himself is speaking. Each Gospel... Show more content on

He is mentioned to by Paul as Luke the beloved physician (Col. 4:14). Luke fixed forth the
humanity of the Son of Man and cites it in chronological order the life of Christ. Being a
physician, he is more precise when using language. For example, when he indicates a leper he
uses the identical medical term to describe the circumstance, for example full of leprosy (Luke
5:12). Luke s gospel is particularly focused towards an individual named Theophilus and is
focused on the complete story and past events of Jesus Christ from his birth and ministry to his
crucifixion and resurrection. A major theme in Luke s gospel shows how important the poor were
to Jesus and how we should not neglect the poor. Examples of this are seen when the book talks
about the distinctive beatitudes blessed you are poor...hunger now...weep now... and the distinctive
woes woes to you that are rich...that are full...that laugh now... which overall say, money and power
will tend to bring judgement upon you. In addition, the gospel of Luke refers to certain parables
like the Rich man and Lazarus. This sends a message to warn the rich who tend to trust in their
riches more than in God, wealth tends to pull us away from God and that if we neglect the poor
and prioritize our riches more we will go to hell. Asking oneself is your existence a blessing for the

Summary Of Zora Neale Hurston
Ebonee Laws
African American Literature
K. Sanders: MWF 9:00
Zora Neale Hurston
Zora Neale Hurston was born on January 7, 1891 in Alabama. She is known to be one of the most
influential novelist of the twentieth century in African America literature. Hurston is described to
be a very opinionated woman that stood for what she believed in; which reflected in some of her
works. In addition to her many titles such as, being an anthropologist and short story writer, she
was closely related and heavily focused on the Harlem Renaissance. Zora Neale Hurston and her
political opinions placed her at odds with important figures during that time which I wholeheartedly
believe played a part in the undeniable attraction that most people have towards her works. Being
that Hurston was such a unique writer, to understand the ethics and themes of her and how she
contributed to African American literature comes with an understanding of the background and
childhood she had.
In some of Hurston s works she acknowledges Eatonville, which was the first all black community
in America that she moved to when she was only three years old (Kimmons, 3). Hurston viewed
Eatonville as a place where blacks could ultimately be themselves without having to conform to the
norms of a white society (Kimmons, 1). Hurston was protected from the realisms of judgement and
disgust towards African Americans; since Eatonville was described to be somewhat safe from
lynchings and other violence related to racism. After

Abstract
This experiment uses Co(salen) as a model compound illustrating the uptake of oxygen in
hemoglobin. SalenH2 was prepared as the intermediate, and reacted with hydrated cobalt to prepare
Co(salen). Using Co(salen) the oxygen up take was tested. The synthesis of SalenH2 produced 0.65
g. The percent yield of salenH2 was 116% on the filter paper and 105% after transferring salenH2 to
a vial. The melting point of salenH2, was 128 oC. The color of salenH2 was yellow. This was all
expected from salenH2. The synthesis of Co(salen) produced 0.232 g. The percent yield of
Co(salen) was 88.22% on the filter paper and 86.1 % after transferring the Co(salen) to a vial.

Tamora And Lavinia And Women In Titus Andronicus
Tamora and Lavinia, the two main female characters in Titus Andronicus, have to put up others
underestimating them, but both women prove they are capable of taking matters into their own
hands and get revenge on the people who have done them wrong. Though they were taken
advantage of and hurt in many ways they both found a way to get revenge in the end. Tamora was
begging Titus to not killher son Alarbus, Stay Roman brethren, gracious conqueror, victorious
Titus, rue tears I shed, a mother s tears in passion for her son (1.1 104 105). Titus kills Alarbus to

she is with Bassianus, Lavinia will I make my empress (1.1 242). Lavina is being forced to be

children or like Lavina her husband Bassianus. All though, Lavina, had many things happen to her
she ended up getting revenge. When Chiron and Demetrius raped, cut off her hands, her tongue,
and killed Bassianus with the help of there mother and Arron they thought this would make her

Quantitative And Qualitative Analysis
This chapter defines the qualitative and quantitative analysis of Content Management System. This
Chapter also explains the design of Research Methodology, its implementation and implementation
tools, technologies and techniques have been used for result findings. It is also worth mentioning
that I have collected data for identifying parameters and got the desired data on the basis of these
parameters. This chapter begins with the definition of Qualitative and Quantitative Analysis.
4.2. QUALITATIVE ANALYSIS
Qualitative analysis is an inquiry or investigation behind the reasoning of human actions and
behavior, the objective of qualitative analysis is to find the detailed description which is also
complete.
We can say Qualitative analysis is a securities analysis that is composed of subjective judgment
based on uncountable or unquantifiable information, such as management or human expertise,
industry cycles, research strength and development, and employees relations. Qualitative analysis

The Impact Of Political Machine On The City
Summer Eldred Evans
April 16, 2016
U.S. Urban History
Essay: Urban America
Discuss the political machine and its operations in the city, 1865 1939 The political machine is
very powerful in the city and because of how powerful it is that urban United States was able to
develop so much and increase in power in the late 1800 s and early 1900 s. A political machineis
system of political organization based on patronage, the spoils system, and political ties.
Sometimes political machines have a boss and sometimes they may not have a boss, and always
have a corps of workers who depend on the patronage given by government contracts and jobs.
Machine politics has existed in many United States cities for a long time now, but are still in
effect in some areas. The rapid growth of American cities in the late 1800 s and early 1900 s
created huge problems for the government that ran the cities as in most cases in was very
poorly structured and could not really give the people what they needed. It is because of the
inability of city government to provide these things to the people that there was a rise in political
machines. These political machines gained support from the population by providing houses for
people who needed them and by also offering people jobs that they desperately needed. This gave
the political machines a lot of power and support from there loyal followers. Voters are often
rewarded with patronage jobs. However, patronage can result in poorer service to the

Final Movement Research Paper
Final Movement Reflection
When I first started movement class in January, I already had a good connection with my body.
However, I knew there was still a lot of work to be done. The most valuable lessons I learned
during the course, though there were many, were to not work so hard with my body, to be more
aware of my day to day, and the power of understanding yourself.
As a student with a business background, I tend to want to work hard. Before taking movement
this semester, I would occasionally notice my posture, and correct it to something more proper.
For example, I noticed how I keep my head forward, or how I would overuse my lower back
muscles. This was, however, where my body awareness ended. On the first day of class, Val got us

I said I would make it my purpose to walk with back body every time I came from the train to
school. When I first started, I had a lot of trouble. I would be aware of my back body, then after a
couple steps I would revert back to old habits. It was a constant battle between awareness and
unconsciousness. Val pointed it out that it is similar to meditation; you always have to bring
back awareness. As time went on I found that I could walk with back body for longer. However,
I did end up walking slower. I assumed that I was relearning to walk, so I would have to start
slow. The interesting thing was that the awareness of back body expanded beyond my walk to
school. Eventually, I started to walk with back body through hallways, or I would remember to
use back body when I was sitting. Moreover, I started to remember to use the Alexander
Technique more often in my everyday life. At this point in the semester, I am getting more and
more consistent with my practice. However, when I am busy, it tends to slip away. This practice
is another big part of why I m feeling less tense in troubled areas. I believe an actor must practice
awareness and their scales every day. This will allow for better habits to form. Therefore, when it
comes time to act, this work will happen

Chile Trench Research Paper
The Peru Chile Trench, also known as the Atacama Trench, is an oceanic trench in the eastern
Pacific Ocean. It s a fault line that is 100 miles off the coast of Peru and Chile, and also happens
to be the fault line that we were assigned. The Peru Chile Trench reaches a maximum depth of
26,460 ft below sea level in Richard Deep and is approximately 3,666 miles long, meaning that the
width is 40 miles and it covers an expanse of about 228,000 square miles.
The trench marks the subduction of the Nazca plate under the South American plate. The Nazca
plate is conveniently named after the Nazca region of the southern part of Peru, and is an oceanic
plate in the eastern Pacific Ocean, right off the west coast of South America. The subduction
mentioned earlier is when Nazca plate is forced down and goes under the South American plate,
where it then digs into the mantle. The subduction of the Nazca Plate below the South American
Plate along the Chile Peru Trench is associated with numerous earthquakes. Several of these

Chromatography is a separation technique that is used to separate the components of a mixture
(BBC, 2014). Chromatography is used to identify chemicals or colours in food, ink, and dyes to
name a few (BBC, 2014). Chromatography has a stationary phase and a mobile phase. The
stationary phase doesn t move and consists of a solid, or a liquid on a solid (University of
California Davis, 2013). The mobile phase moves up through the stationary phase and consists of a
liquid or a gas (University of California Davis, 2013). In the experiment conducted, paper was used
as the stationary phase, and chromatographysolvent was used as the mobile phase. With the help of

The pigments chlorophyll a and chlorophyll b both have different structures, however the
differences are small. The structure of chlorophyll consists of molecules such as carbon,
hydrogen, oxygen and nitrogen bonded to a metal ion in the center (Harvey et al., 2000). The
metal ion in the center of chlorophyll is magnesium, and is the molecule in the center of the
porphyrin ring (Harvey et al., 2000). The porphyrin ring consists of four nitrogen atoms bonded
around the magnesium ion in a square like shape (Harvey et al., 2000). Outside of the
magnesium ion and four nitrogen atoms are atoms of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen (Harvey et
al., 2000). To add on, chlorophyll bonds to the hydrophobic regions of chlorophyll proteins
(Harvey et al., 2000). When talking about the chemical properties of chlorophyll they vary for
both chlorophyll a and for chlorophyll b. When chlorophyll a is separated from the magnesium
ion it has a blue black colour when it is in solid form (Onslow, 2014). However, chlorophyll a gives
a blue green colour when in a soluble solvent (Onslow, 2014). On the other hand, chlorophyll b

The Cherokee Removal Essay
A long time before this land was called the United States, the Cherokee people used to live in this
land in the valleys of rivers that drained the southern Appalachians. These people made their
homes, farmed their land, and buried their dead. Also these people, who are now called Indians
claimed larger lands. They would use these for hunting deer and gathering material, to live off of.
Later these lands were called Virginia and Kentucky. As it is mentioned in the text, these people
had their own culture and own way of life. They had their own gender roles and religion; even
eating food had a different definition than the white man s culture. They had equality between
genders, and other members of the tribe had equal rights to talk. But... Show more content on

Since neither the United States nor Native Americans would give up their goals, the government of
United States figured that to win Native Americans and get all they wanted, government needed to
spend lots of money and time. The United States tried to figure out a peaceful way to communicate
with Native Americans. The new workable system fell to President George Washington s first
Secretary of War Henry Knox (p. 10).Henry Knox brought a new relation between Americans and
Native Americans. Knox and Washington believed that the uncivilized Indian life was based on
them not knowing better. On the other hand, their inferiority was cultural not racial (p. 11). In 1791
they announced the Cherokees may be led to a greater civilized society instead of remaining
hunters. So women started to weave cloth, these Cherokee planters became rich, and the first law
established in 1808 was about preventing the theft horses, also Cherokees invented a system for
writing the Cherokee language.
The Indian Removal policy started by Andrew Jackson and passed in 1830. In 1790s the Georgia
legislature planed a lottery system, that was system of land distribution and qualifying citizens
could register for a chance to win these lands. United States could not force tribal leaders to sell
their lands and many of leaders refused to sell their lands. However, in 1827s Resolution of Georgia
General Assembly declared that under constitution, the federal government had no

St Augustine Research Paper
Saint Augustine is undoubtedly one, if not, the most important theologian in church history. His
writings have greatly influenced Christian theology and understanding of God. Saint Augustine laid
out some theological doctrine that has helped shaped Christian s perceptions of sin, grace and
salvation. Ironically, some of his theological postulation emerges from his controversies with
different opposing camps on the aforementioned subjects. However, in this paper, the primary focus
will be on his controversy with the Pelegians. The Pelagians taught that Gods given grace before the
fall, combined with the willingness of man to choose good over evil, is enough to earn man
salvation. The Pelagius position places emphasis on man s ability to work out his own salvation,...

It is obvious from The Confession that Augustine was a man who struggled endlessly to
extricate himself from the bondage of sin, but the more he tried, the more he failed and sinks
deeper into its abyss. And with every failure, comes a sense of disappointment and despondency,
until he had a strange experience. In AD 386, while sitting in his garden, Augustine heard a voice
from some children playing not far away urging him to pick the book the Bible, and read. What
he read from Apostle Paul s letter to the Roman Christian in Chapter 13 transformed, not only his
understanding of the hopelessness and despair man encounters in trying to solve the problem of
sin on his own, but he saw the provision that God has made to remedy the consequences of sin and
the grace he has graciously provided to live a life that is acceptable to God. That moment was the
turning point in Augustine s life and how he developed his sotoriological

Assured of success, Joshua renewed his plans to conquer Ai. The enemy forces were lured into
the open so that the thirty thousand men who had stationed beyond the city by night were able to
attack Ai from the near and set it afire. The defenders were annihilated, their king was hanged
and the site was reduced to rubble. When Israel makes its second attack, the people of Ai as well
as the inhabitants of Bethel vacate their cities to pursue the enemy (Josh. 8: 17). Not all of the
Canaanites tried to resist Israel s invasion. One group, the Gibeonites, avoided destruction by
deceiving the Israelites into making a covenant of peace with them (Joshua 9:1). Alarmed by the
defection of the Gibeonites to Israel, a group of southern Canaanite kings, led by Adoni zedek of
Jerusalem, formed a coalition against the invading force. The kings threatened to attack the
Gibeonites, causing Joshua to come to the defense of his new allies. Because of supernatural
intervention, the Israelites were able to defeat the coalition. Joshua then launched a southern
campaign which resulted in the capture of numerous Canaanite cities (Joshua 10:1). Joshua s third
and last military campaign was in northern Canaan. In that region King Jabin of Hazor formed a
coalition of neighbouring kings to battle with the Israelites. Joshua made a surprise attack upon
them at the waters of Merom, utterly defeating his foe (Joshua 11:1 15). The invasion of Canaan

The And Its Influence On The Art World
Interpretations of artworks have been widely valued among the art world for centuries. Arguments
whether an artwork means one thing, multiple things, or nothing at all is a question that circles the
art world, and cause art critics to disagree when interpreting a work. Nihilism, monism, pluralism,
intentionalism, romanticism, anti intentionalsim, and post structuralism all contain philosopher s
theories that can give art viewers the key to giving meaning to a creation. I prefer the views of
pluralism, and post structuralism when looking for the answer of how to interpret an artwork such
as J.K. Rowling s Harry Potterseries as with most fictional books. Pluralism does not contain one
completely right answer, but can disregard certain... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I agree with the thought a good work allows for multiple interpretations because when I read J.K.
Rowling s series, I became immediately consumed in the fictional world, experiencing and
interpreting things as I saw fit. I read the books and never once thought of Dumbledore as gay, but
other s that read the books, and the author whom wrote them interpreted him as gay. Neither their
interpretations nor my own are wrong according to the pluralist view because both are plausible,
viable interpretations. While in the books there is not a single statement that clearly displays
Dumbledore as gay, there is also not a statement that clearly displays him being heterosexual, either.
With that thought in mind, one could assume that the sexual orientation could not possibly be
knowledge attained by anyone because it is not disclosed in the book, but that does not give any
justification to dismissing the interpretation of him being either hetero or homosexual. The pluralist
view hits a dead end because there is always the open question of how to distinguish between a
plausible and implausible interpretation.
Most people would argue from a monist stand point that because the author said the meaning was
one thing then they must be right, but post structuralist Barthes says that the author is not meant to
be the arbiter of meaning (Hicks, 83), but rather the work itself. So with this suggestion, the author
seems to not have complete say in what the book or

Invasion Of Privacy
Say Cheese Surveillance cameras are found in places all around the globe. As these cameras
become more popular, people have become concerned with their own privacy. Some common
locations of these cameras are in stores, restaurants, on streets, and in home security systems. When
a crime is committed, there can be verbal evidence provided by bystanders, but there is not more
absolute proof than the proof that is provided by these cameras. Even though some people argue
that surveillancecameras are an invasion of privacy, they definitely do more help than harm.
In 1986, the Electronic Communications Privacy Act was passed. This gave law enforcement
the power to use video surveillance technology. Ever since this was passed, surveillance cameras
have saved many lives and helped solve many crimes. One example of this is the bombing of the
world trade center. After the event, the FBI was able to use video surveillance to collect the
evidence that was needed to convict someone who was involved in the heinous crime. It is possible
that if not for the use of these cameras, this conviction may have never happened. This is just one
of the many instances where surveillance cameras have been extremely useful in providing proof ...

Maria Montessori Key Lessons Essay
The Great Key Lessons and Key lessons. Maria Montessori believed that in presenting the whole
universe to the child in their early years, they would be given the courage to act many questions
about what the universe holds. This believed that this would help a child to become more aware of
what surrounds them and curious of what does not. Montessori separated the universeinto five
major sections and many minor ones to help introduce them to the child. Each story had the truths
of the universe as we have been thought them but also leave the child in awe and wonder to try and
comprehend these facts with their meaning. In the first story, the child is shown the universe as a

Naturally, a child will automatically become interested in a topic which is led by another. Interest
spreads to all, for all are linked and have their place in the universe on which the mind is centred.
The stars, earth, stones, life of all kinds form a whole in relation with each other, and so close is
this relation that we cannot understand a stone without some understanding of the great sun.
No matter what we touch, an atom, or a cell, we cannot explain it without the knowledge of the

others feel that it should be. Maria Montessori was deeply religious, and brought many of her

Thyroid Hormone Research Paper
The thyroid is the gland responsible for taking control of the body s metabolism, protein production,
and other processes related to growth and development. The hormone, produced by this gland is an
important hormone that the body needs to grow and properly develop.
Iodine and Its Role in the Body
To produce the hormone, the thyroid needs iodine. However, iodine is a trace element and the body
cannot produce it on its own. Having a sufficient amount of iodine in the body is essential for the
production of the thyroid hormone. Lack of iodine in the body can cause problems that specifically
affect the thyroid gland.
There are two leading problems experienced by the thyroid; hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism.
These conditions lead to over production or an underactive thyroid gland respectively. Symptoms

The irregularity of thyroid hormone production is not good but when the thyroid is destroyed, it is
permanent.
What is Thyroid Hormone Replacement?
The good thing is that hormone replacement is available for individuals who need help with
thyroid issues. Some conditions of hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism can last for long periods
of time and during this period, it is best to consult a doctor to see if hormone replacement is an
option that an individual can have.
Hormone replacement therapy is done when an individual has permanent or long term need of
thyroid hormones that the gland is failing to produce. Hormone replacement is done by using
synthetic hormones similar to the thyroid hormone of the body. The synthetic hormone will then
make up for the low or overproduction of hormones from the malfunctioning thyroid gland.
When a person s thyroid is not functioning normally, a blood workup can be done to determine
whether that person will need thyroid hormone replacement therapy, especially is the hormones are
already too high or too

bishop whose role is to watch over all of the priests within the dioceses. There are many other

Some common practises include bible study which has been practised for millenniums and the
tradition of having a service every Sunday. The church is always practicing the three initiation

people with faith closer to the Christ. They teach that Jesus is the Son of God sent to die for the sins
of the world and God is a triune God, consisting of God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy
Spirit. The official teaching has been the same for many years, just like the apostles passed on the
Gospel message it is still a matter of word and mouth. There is the use of the bible and God s word

Comparison between London and Atlanta Based Airlines
How would the two airlines (London based and Atlanta based) be more reactive to the requirements

Areas of concern
1. Environment. Clients have a higher standard on the London based airline because of its past
performance for an exceptional service. Similarly, clients also presume that the high cost incurred
should be recompensed by superb provisions.
2. Information technology structure. Bearing in mind the facts provided in the case, McPherson

the hydraulic system leaks should be watched closely in the near future to find out why this
mechanical problem occurred and the origin of the problem needs to be identified.
In an effort to rise to the customers expectations of superior customer service, a cross reference
customer data base should be implemented with shared information. A possible color coded
system that would enable the airline agents and attendance as to the customers amount of travel is

base information would be beneficial if multiple parties throughout the airline had access to in in
order to follow up on any and all concerns of customer needs and specifications.
Assessment Criteria for Performance enhancement
The following are the suggested criteria in assessing the performance of airlines:
1. Operational accuracy. The planes departure and arrival times must be closely monitored in
order to maintain accuracy and adjust any unnecessary delays. Time is of the essence to the
majority of travelers, their travel plans are well thought out in advance and accuracy needs to be of
the utmost importance. If and when there is a delay in arrival or departure other than factors
beyond the airlines control, they should to be logged in and noted.
2. Quality control of mechanical equipment and facilities. Mechanical quality control records
should be updated

and graduated with honors! He then enrolled into the University of Stanford for graduate school.
There he met Sergey Brin, the other co founder of Google, who served as his tour guide. Both
were considered very bright and intelligent young men. However, they did not get along well at
all at first. they both had very strong opinions in computers, technology, and urban planning, but

Cell Membrane And The Cell Body
Neurons are made up of four regions, the cell body, dendrites, axons and presynaptic terminal. The
cell body (soma) contains the nucleus of a neuron and the endoplasmic reticulum. Extending out
from the cell body are processes called dendrites and axons. These processes conduct nerve
impulses. Dendrites conduct impulses toward the cell body while axons conduct impulses away
from the cell body. A fatty sheath called myelin sheath encases axons. It is the greatly expanded
plasma membrane of an accessory cell called the Schwann cell where the sheath of one Schwann
cell meets the next. The axolemma is the portion of the cell membrane surrounding the axon of a
neuronand is responsible for maintaining the membrane potential of the neuron. A single neuron,
especially one in the central nervous system may have thousands of other neurons synapsing on it.
Some of these release activating (depolarizing) neurotransmitters; others release inhibitory
(hyperpolarizing) neurotransmitters.
An inactive or resting neuron actively pumps sodium out of the cell and potassium into the cell to
maintain equilibrium. However, the plasma membrane is more permeable to potassium than to
sodium, which results in some potassium to diffuse out of the neurons. Large, negatively charged
proteins such as phosphate and sulfate cannot diffuse out of the neuron. This results in a net excess
of positively charged ions outside the neuron membrane and net excess of negatively charged ions
inside the neuron.

Economic Effects of Illegal Immigration in Los Angeles,...
THE ECONOMIC EFFECTS OF ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION
IN LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA
Purpose of Study
Estimates state that over 1.2 million people immigrate to the United States each year, thereby
thrusting the issue of illegal immigration to the forefront of today news headlines. From an
economic standpoint, the effort to absorb illegal immigrants often negatively impacts cities as well
as the entire country. This paper addresses the negative economic outcome of illegal immigrationin
the city of Los Angeles, California through the exploration of studies conducted and statistics
available on the issue of illegal immigration. An effort will be made to determine whether there is
negative fiscal impact on the labor market, the tax structure, ... Show more content on

However, in Los Angeles, the low income of the immigrants theoretically results in a lower level
of consumerism. Therefore, if jobs were created via immigrant consumerism, they would likely pay
sub standard wages. From a financial point of view, this results in a net job loss for U.S. citizens
and counters the claim that the immigrant consumerism increases job creation Los Angeles.
(Matloff, 1995)
Advocates of immigration assert that the commercial activities of the immigrants are good for the
city of Los Angeles. There are of course many immigrants in Los Angeles who run their business
very successfully. But these businesses run by immigrants are not beneficial for the economy in
Los Angeles as they often employ illegal immigrants, which only creates more jobs with wages
that are below the state mandated minimum. Advocates of immigration also argue that the low
wages from immigration are beneficial for consumers. However, as stated by Donald Huddle, an
economist at Rice University, consumers are paying high prices for those goods through taxes and
the increased rate of use of government services. From this evidence we can deduce that the only
economic benefit from this situation is to the employers and not to the average citizen in Los
Angeles.
According to the view of an ever increasing body of research, illegal immigrants consume much
more economically than they contribute in Los Angeles.

Abstract
Theodore Dreiser is an outstanding writer in American literary history .Writing in naturalist style;
he created a new era of American literature and influenced a good many contemporary writers as
well as his followers. Sister Carrie is regarded as the masterpiece of Theodore Dreiser s writing
skills in naturalist style. And this thesis from the perspective of Naturalism in American literature,

opportunities and fashionable, glamorous urban life, they move from the underdeveloped regions to
the prosperous metropolis. Some of them are led by their insatiable desir for material goods on turn
to dishonest, illegl ways. They pessimistically complain about the deterministic effect of degrading
environmental and humiliating hereditary factors upon their fates, and blam the amoral, indifferent
attitude the society takes on their moral degradation. In fact one should not be so pessimistic: all
of people must dignity and self confidence and fight against for changing the adverse
environmental factors and hereditary factors. Therefore, everybody can be a new man and the
master of one s fate.
2. Naturalistic Environmental Factor for Carrie One outstanding feature of naturalism is its stress
on the influence of environment upon man s fate. According to naturalism, man is a helpless pawn,
at the mercy of the surrounding. For instance, in Janie Gerhardt, a novel written in 1911 and wildly
considered as the twin sister of Sister Carrie, Dreiser has his wealthy and seemingly impregnable
hero Lester declare those words, all of us are more or less pawns. We re moved about like
chessman by circumstance over which we have no control . [2] This famous pronouncement is

Canadian Political System Analysis
Canada s government is a democracy like the United States, however their style of government is
different. The Canadian government is based on a parliamentary democracy while the United States

Dribble, dribble, shoot, shoot, take that ball to hoop, hoop. One of the many cheers you d hear at
a basketball game. From watching the game to playing it there s so much more than people know.
You walk into a gym and you hear so many different noises. The pep band is playing you can hear
all the different instruments. You can feel the bass drum from your seat, thumping in your chest.
The crowd cheering and yelling at the top of there lungs. The student sections chanting chants
back in forth to gain their team the momentum. Then there s pure silence during a free throw
where you could hear a pin drop, or the complete silence right before the national anthem plays.
The sound of squeaking shoes across the court as you hear the ball bouncing and the players
shouting Ball Ball! Run 3 run 3! A sharp whistle blow always the most upsetting sound usually

The Objective Of Knowledge Management Essay
Introduction
In this global and increasingly knowledge based society, the principal asset for organizations in
both the public and private sectors is knowledge. To survive in the face of such global competitions,
organizations increasingly depend on their ability to transform information into knowledge as the
basis of competitiveness, decision making and the production of new products and services. There
for Knowledge Management (KM) can act as the process of capturing, developing, sharing, and
effectively using organizational knowledge (Davenport, 1994). The ultimate goal of KM is to
increase the effectiveness and the sustainability of growth of an organization. Although KM was
originally develop to fit the needs of for profit companies, but its practice has been spread over to
the non profit sector including LIS. Shanhong (2000) suggests that the objective of knowledge
Management in libraries is to promote knowledge innovation, closer relationships in and between
libraries, and between a library and its users, to strengthen knowledge inter networking and to
quicken knowledge flow. For some in the LIS community, KM is simply a case of new wine in old
bottles or of librarianship in new clothes , and more controversially, as nothing more than
information management (Koenig, 1997; Rowley, 2003; Schwarzwalder, 1999; Wilson, 2002).
The approaches that deal with the application of KM in the LIS environment are relatively new, and
are mainly perceptual and general in nature,

Disease is very common in those whose immune systemis not functionally efficient. With the help of intensive chemotherapy, children are in better health. On the other hand, children in third world countries are not as aggressive in treatment of Burkitt s lymphoma. The right prognosis helps doctors evaluate the initial steps of Burkitt s lymphoma.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (1) The observation and description of the lymphoma named after Dennis Burkitt in 1964 was a major breakthrough in virology and in cancer research. It led to the discovery that all humans carry a DNA virus that can transform B lymphocytes, named after its discoverers Epstein Barr Virus, (EBV) , this is virus which causes glandular fever; however, the virus carrying state is mostly harmless. This is due to two main aspects of the complex host virus and host cell and virus interactions. According to Epstein The gene expressions strategy of the virus adjusts it to various cellular environments that together with our immune response establish a finely poised balance of the virus carrying state, limiting the proliferation of the virally infected cells. Activation of the c myc ontogeny by chromosomal translocation is the key event in this malignancy. Burkitt lymphoma was called the Rosetta Stone of EBV biology, and the stalking horse of cancer research. (2) Points discussed in the reviews touch on the history of the discoveries of the lymphoma and of the virus, the expression types of the EBV encoded proteins in cells with latent infection, the pivotal role and functional consequences of the lg/myc translocation the success of immune surveillance, and the crippling of the major apoptotic pathways. According to Stephen King, we crave horror films to show we are not afraid, to re establish our sense of normality, and to give an outlet to our anti civilization emotions. (Why We Crave Horror Films) Jordan Peele s film challenges white people, who live in social environments, protected and isolated from race based stress. They re provided with racial comfort, yet they have a lower tolerance for racial pressure. Jordan Peele s film, deals with the more common forms of racism, but it focuses more on the progressive liberal whites and how they contribute to silencing African Americans, causing them to be trapped in the sunken place. In like manner, God didn t give us one explanation from an confined individual. Rather, God educates us about the broad richness of Jesus life through a numerous prophet witnesses. He is mentioned to by Paul as Luke the beloved physician (Col. 4:14). Luke fixed forth the humanity of the Son of Man and cites it in chronological order the life of Christ. Being a physician, he is more precise when using language. For example, when he indicates a leper he uses the identical medical term to describe the circumstance, for example full of leprosy (Luke 5:12). Luke s gospel is particularly focused towards an individual named Theophilus and is focused on the complete story and past events of Jesus Christ from his birth and ministry to his crucifixion and resurrection. A major theme in Luke s gospel shows how important the poor were to Jesus and how we should not neglect the poor. Examples of this are seen when the book talks about the distinctive beatitudes blessed you are poor...hunger now...weep now... and the distinctive woes woes to you that are rich...that are full...that laugh now... which overall say, money and power will tend to bring judgement upon you. In addition, the gospel of Luke refers to certain parables like the Rich man and Lazarus. This sends a message to warn the rich who tend to trust in their riches more than in God, wealth tends to pull us away from God and that if we neglect the poor and prioritize our riches more we will go to hell. She is known to be one of the most influential novelist of the twentieth century in African America literature. Hurston is described to be a very opinionated woman that stood for what she believed in; which reflected in some of her works. In addition to her many titles such as, being an anthropologist and short story writer, she was closely related and heavily focused on the Harlem Renaissance. Zora Neale Hurston and her political opinions placed her at odds with important figures during that time which I wholeheartedly believe played a part in the undeniable attraction that most people have towards her works. Being that Hurston was such a unique writer, to understand the ethics and themes of her and how she contributed to African American literature comes with an understanding of the background and childhood she had. In some of Hurston s works she acknowledges Eatonville, which was the first all black community in America that she moved to when she was only three years old (Kimmons, 3). Hurston viewed Eatonville as a place where blacks could ultimately be themselves without having to conform to the norms of a white society (Kimmons, 1). Hurston was protected from the realisms of judgement and disgust towards African Americans; since Eatonville was described to be somewhat safe from lynchings and other violence related to racism. The Impact Of Political Machine On The City Summer Eldred Evans April 16, 2016 U.S. Urban History Essay: Urban America Discuss the political machine and its operations in the city, 1865 1939 The political machine is very powerful in the city and because of how powerful it is that urban United States was able to develop so much and increase in power in the late 1800 s and early 1900 s. A political machineis system of political organization based on patronage, the spoils system, and political ties. Sometimes political machines have a boss and sometimes they may not have a boss, and always have a corps of workers who depend on the patronage given by government contracts and jobs. Machine politics has existed in many United States cities for a long time now, but are still in effect in some areas. The rapid growth of American cities in the late 1800 s and early 1900 s created huge problems for the government that ran the cities as in most cases in was very poorly structured and could not really give the people what they needed. It is because of the inability of city government to provide these things to the people that there was a rise in political machines. These political machines gained support from the population by providing houses for people who needed them and by also offering people jobs that they desperately needed. This gave the political machines a lot of power and support from there loyal followers. Voters are often rewarded with patronage jobs. However, patronage can result in poorer service to the ... As a student with a business background, I tend to want to work hard. Before taking movement this semester, I would occasionally notice my posture, and correct it to something more proper. Val pointed it out that it is similar to meditation; you always have to bring back awareness. As time went on I found that I could walk with back body for longer. However, I did end up walking slower. I assumed that I was relearning to walk, so I would have to start slow. The interesting thing was that the awareness of back body expanded beyond my walk to school. Eventually, I started to walk with back body through hallways, or I would remember to use back body when I was sitting. Moreover, I started to remember to use the Alexander Technique more often in my everyday life. At this point in the semester, I am getting more and more consistent with my practice. The enemy forces were lured into the open so that the thirty thousand men who had stationed beyond the city by night were able to attack Ai from the near and set it afire. The defenders were annihilated, their king was hanged and the site was reduced to rubble. When Israel makes its second attack, the people of Ai as well as the inhabitants of Bethel vacate their cities to pursue the enemy (Josh. 8: 17). Not all of the Canaanites tried to resist Israel s invasion. One group, the Gibeonites, avoided destruction by deceiving the Israelites into making a covenant of peace with them (Joshua 9:1). Alarmed by the defection of the Gibeonites to Israel, a group of southern Canaanite kings, led by Adoni zedek of Jerusalem, formed a coalition against the invading force. The kings threatened to attack the Gibeonites, causing Joshua to come to the defense of his new allies. Because of supernatural intervention, the Israelites were able to defeat the coalition. Joshua then launched a southern campaign which resulted in the capture of numerous Canaanite cities (Joshua 10:1). Joshua s third and last military campaign was in northern Canaan. In that region King Jabin of Hazor formed a coalition of neighbouring kings to battle with the Israelites. Joshua made a surprise attack upon them at the waters of Merom, utterly defeating his foe (Joshua 11:1 15). The invasion of Canaan met with phenomenal success; large ... Arguments whether an artwork means one thing, multiple things, or nothing at all is a question that circles the art world, and cause art critics to disagree when interpreting a work. Nihilism, monism, pluralism, intentionalism, romanticism, anti intentionalsim, and post structuralism all contain philosopher s theories that can give art viewers the key to giving meaning to a creation. I agree with the thought a good work allows for multiple interpretations because when I read J.K. Rowling s series, I became immediately consumed in the fictional world, experiencing and interpreting things as I saw fit. I read the books and never once thought of Dumbledore as gay, but other s that read the books, and the author whom wrote them interpreted him as gay. Neither their interpretations nor my own are wrong according to the pluralist view because both are plausible, viable interpretations. While in the books there is not a single statement that clearly displays Dumbledore as gay, there is also not a statement that clearly displays him being heterosexual, either. With that thought in mind, one could assume that the sexual orientation could not possibly be knowledge attained by anyone because it is not disclosed in the book, but that does not give any justification to dismissing the interpretation of him being either hetero or homosexual. The pluralist view hits a dead end because there is always the open question of how to distinguish between a plausible and implausible interpretation. Most people would argue from a monist stand point that because the author said the meaning was one thing then they must be right, but post structuralist Barthes says that the author is not meant to be the arbiter of meaning (Hicks, 83), but rather the work itself. So with this suggestion, the author seems to not have complete say in what the book or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some common locations of these cameras are in stores, restaurants, on streets, and in home security systems. When a crime is committed, there can be verbal evidence provided by bystanders, but there is not more absolute proof than the proof that is provided by these cameras. Even though some people argue that surveillancecameras are an invasion of privacy, they definitely do more help than harm. In 1986, the Electronic Communications Privacy Act was passed. This gave law enforcement the power to use video surveillance technology. Ever since this was passed, surveillance cameras have saved many lives and helped solve many crimes. One example of this is the bombing of the world trade center. After the event, the FBI was able to use video surveillance to collect the evidence that was needed to convict someone who was involved in the heinous crime. • 39. Cell Membrane And The Cell Body Neurons are made up of four regions, the cell body, dendrites, axons and presynaptic terminal. The cell body (soma) contains the nucleus of a neuron and the endoplasmic reticulum. Extending out from the cell body are processes called dendrites and axons. These processes conduct nerve impulses. Dendrites conduct impulses toward the cell body while axons conduct impulses away from the cell body. A fatty sheath called myelin sheath encases axons. It is the greatly expanded plasma membrane of an accessory cell called the Schwann cell where the sheath of one Schwann cell meets the next. The axolemma is the portion of the cell membrane surrounding the axon of a neuronand is responsible for maintaining the membrane potential of the neuron. A single neuron, especially one in the central nervous system may have thousands of other neurons synapsing on it. Some of these release activating (depolarizing) neurotransmitters; others release inhibitory (hyperpolarizing) neurotransmitters. An inactive or resting neuron actively pumps sodium out of the cell and potassium into the cell to maintain equilibrium. However, the plasma membrane is more permeable to potassium than to sodium, which results in some potassium to diffuse out of the neurons. Large, negatively charged proteins such as phosphate and sulfate cannot diffuse out of the neuron. This results in a net excess of positively charged ions outside the neuron membrane and net excess of negatively charged ions inside the neuron. When ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Advocates of immigration also argue that the low wages from immigration are beneficial for consumers. However, as stated by Donald Huddle, an economist at Rice University, consumers are paying high prices for those goods through taxes and the increased rate of use of government services. From this evidence we can deduce that the only economic benefit from this situation is to the employers and not to the average citizen in Los Angeles. According to the view of an ever increasing body of research, illegal immigrants consume much more economically than they contribute in Los Angeles. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For instance, in Janie Gerhardt, a novel written in 1911 and wildly considered as the twin sister of Sister Carrie, Dreiser has his wealthy and seemingly impregnable hero Lester declare those words, all of us are more or less pawns. • 45. The Objective Of Knowledge Management Essay Introduction In this global and increasingly knowledge based society, the principal asset for organizations in both the public and private sectors is knowledge. To survive in the face of such global competitions, organizations increasingly depend on their ability to transform information into knowledge as the basis of competitiveness, decision making and the production of new products and services. There for Knowledge Management (KM) can act as the process of capturing, developing, sharing, and effectively using organizational knowledge (Davenport, 1994).
