2. Goodby s Advertisement Campaign
In 1993, the California Milk Processor Board, a non profit run by the California Department of
Food and Agriculture, was created. Their mission was to confront the issue of decreasing milk
consumption, as Americans were choosing soda and juice over milk. The board asked
advertising agency Goodby, Silverstein Partners for help with ideas regarding a campaign to
increase milk sales and consumption. Initially, the agency was caught off guard, because they
viewed milk as something boring and common, not in need of an ad campaign. Goodby explained
the challenge: We have all tried it. Most of us already own some...Milk is not new. It is not
improvised...There is very little to say about it.
The catch phrase got milk? was coined by Goodby during a focus group in which the employees
were brainstorming, and a woman pointed out that The only time I even think about milk is when I

4. The Pros And Cons Of Medical Malpractice
Introduction According to Attorney.com, Ohio malpractice law defines medical malpractice as
when a medical professional, such as a doctor or a nurse, or a medical institution, such as a
hospital, injures a patient during the course of a treatment. Furthermore, for this injury to be able to
be considered medical malpractice, the doctor s actions must represent a breach, or violation, of
the standard of care. A standard of care is defined as the generally accepted practices and
procedures that all medical professionals in the area would administer for a patient sufferingfrom a
particular ailment. This standard of care varies depending on a number of factors, including the
patient s general health as well as his or her age. According to the Ohio court of claims On June
28, 2006 Ms. Cynthia Adae was taken to the Clinton Memorial hospital with symptoms of
shoulder pain with limited range of motion of her right upper extremity, a nonproductive cough

Analysis of William Frederick Witherington s short story The Dancing Bear
1.
The initial impression gathered from the passage is bizarre and very dreamlike, perhaps chiefly
because it is an excerpt from a novel or a larger literary work. Upon further analysis, the passage
develops an eerily violent tone. The events appear to take place in the home of Dieter Bethge,
during a stormy night while he is sleeping. Immediately the rain is described as falling with sodden
fury , introducing the negative tone. Shortly after this description, Mrs. Hax adopts the persona of
an animal stalking its prey. She methodically trimmed the glass out of the frame eerily without
emotion, despite the fact that she is on her way to cause harm to Dieter, as ... Show more content on

Again, after the paragraphs describing Dieters dream end, the passage is written in a dreamlike
manner. It seems that Bethge mistakes Mrs. Hax for the dancing bear, which is strange because her
actions in the first paragraph are nothing like the graceful actions of the bear, and she does not want
to fold him onto the fragrant, brilliant fur in a warm embrace but rather harm him.
Analysis of Dana Gioia s Poem Planting a Sequoia 1. (b) The tone of the Planting a Sequoia
prose passage is reflectively melancholy. It is not one of pure agonizing sadness, yet there are
underling depressing qualities to the author s words. The purpose of the passage is to describe
the death an individual, presumably the first born son of the narrator. The narrator is speaking
to the Sequoia that he is planting. Each of the stanzas switch from a mood of death and a mood
of life. The rain blacken[ing] the horizon , the dull gray skies and the old year coming to an end
all work together to create the melancholy mood. The following stanza switches to a newer and
livelier mood, including the celebration of the first son s birth, earth having more life to bear , the
description of a green sapling rising among the twisted apple boughs and the promise of new fruit
in other autumns . The promise of ne fruit describes the symbolic purpose of the tree. Although a
life is lost, there is hope for future fruit , or life in the future. The third stanza begins with the

6. Type 4 Pili Research Paper
Bacterial pili have been well studied for their structure, function, and genetics. However, little is
known about the structure and function of archaeal pili. Current research has begun to focus on the
archaeal pilus and its relatedness to bacterial pili, particularly the bacterial type IV pilus. Using
genetic and microscopy techniques, these studies have shown comparative evidence for the
differences, as well as homology, between archaeal and bacterial type IV pili. These results suggest
there may be an evolutionary divergence from a common ancestral function and origin.

8. Philosophies Of Sister Carrie By Theodore Dreiser

American Realism
11/20/16 Philosophies of Sister
Carrie

There are few writers that could create a body of work that encompasses as many concepts as
Theodore Dreiser s Sister Carrie. His novel follows the life and times of Carrie, a country bell of
sorts who abandons her way of life in favor of a city lifestyle. Through through Carries progress,
Dreiser embodies many philosophies of intelligence, experience, and personal growth. Many great
philosophers have touched subjects that are apparent in Dreiser s work. Sister Carrie epitomizes
many ideas defined by great thinkers such as Eleanor Roosevelt, Lev S. Vygotsky, and Aristotle.
Eleanor Roosevelt once said that Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small
minds discuss people. Dreiser clearly hoped to convey a similar message in this novel. At the
beginning of Carrie s journey she converses with a man named Chas. H. Drouet And so this is
your first visit to Chicago, he observed.
All the time she was conscious of certain features out of the side of her eye. Flush, colorful cheeks,
a light mustache, a gray fedora hat. She now turned and looked upon him in full, the instincts of self
protection and coquetry mingling confusedly in her brain.

Technology in Greg Bear s Blood Music Different genres of literature are particular responses to

information age. One of the attributes given the genre is that it has an apocalyptic or post
apocalyptic tone, warning the reader of the perils of technology, while at the same time
celebrating the possibilities of technology, usually through a strong character in the novel. In Greg
Bear s Blood Music, technology is seen as having a destructive and creative forces as it reshapes

Although the idea of having a world without sickness, age, and death seems appealing, Greg Bear
approaches the idea from the what if perspective of something going wrong that could be
detrimental to the whole of society. In Bear s novel, Vergil, an ingenious scientist, creates smart
cells from his own body, going behind the experiments of his company which is trying desperately
to develop the nanotechnology that we are trying to achieve in our own time, and creates natural
cells that can think on their own to manipulate their environment and make it better. Only, when the
cells realize the problems within the living system and begin to change things, it is more that
Virgil bargained for. Each cell from every other living thing is incorporated and melted into an
alternate society, making each cell sentient, but also part of a communal group, sharing DNA, and
ultimately throughout the information transference, making each individual a part of the genetic
whole. Because Virgil s creation ended the world as we know it through the use of technology, it
can be seen as the dark, forbidding text common to cyberpunk fiction. People are melting down
into sheets of skin and cities are stopping like broken down cities, only to be enveloped by the
floating masses of paper thin cells that think for themselves, and yet share information and thoughts
indiscriminately. Each person is loosing a sense of themselves, breaking down into

10. APPEARANCE vs. REALITY IN THE PRINCE AND HAMLET
3. Reality and appearances, or if you prefer, being and acting, are important themes for both
Machiavelli and Shakespeare. Why? How do their perspectives on this subject agree or differ?
APPEARANCE vs. REALITY IN THE PRINCE AND HAMLET
One of the most fundamental questions in philosophy is the appearance vs. reality. We find
ourselves asking the question of what is genuinely real, and what is viewed merely as just an
appearance, and not real? It becomes difficult when we assume there is a difference in the two to
determine which is which. Generally, what we label as real is regarded as external and eternal.
What we refer to as just an appearance is regarded as temporary and internal. Many early as well as
modern day authors use ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Furthermore, Polonius adds to the theme of appearance versus reality by ordering Ophelia to stop
seeing Hamlet. He lies to her by telling her that Hamlet does not love her, he only lusts for her.
Two of Hamlet s closest friends from his childhood Rosencrantz and Guildenstern can as well be
viewed as liars who become very deceitful to Hamlet. After being asked by the king to find out
what is bothering Hamlet, the two go to Hamlet pretending to see him as a friend, but are in
reality just obeying the king s orders. When they ask what is troubling Hamlet, they become
insincere, and almost sound as though they had rehearsed what it was they were going to say.
Hamlet noticed that the boys were told to do this and states, A dream itself is but a shadow
(Hamlet 73). Hamlet then realized that his own friend were not in reality any friends at all. The
king again sends Rosencrantz and Guildenstern to apologize for their behavior but Hamlet noticed
their intentions yet again and simply insulted them. Hamlet s supposed friends greatly add to the
theme of appearance vs. reality.

Kurt Vonnegut paints a picture of American society 120 years past 1961. Society has made a
gradual change, but it is a drastic one nonetheless. After nearly two hundred amendments to the
constitution, everyone is supposed to be equal in every way. Nobody was smarter than anybody
else. Nobody was better looking than anybody else. Nobody was stronger or quicker than
anybody else. (232 Vonnegut). In this landscape Vonnegut shows that people will never be
completely equal, and trying to force equality through controlling individuals will only create a
new class system. In the sixties, as today, equality was a frequent topic of debate. The Civil Rights
movement was rapidly gaining support, as was equal pay for women, protections of voting... Show

14. Social Classes During The Elizabethan Era Essay
The Social Classes During the Elizabethan Era
Imagine being born into the Elizabethan Era where your social class is already determined for
you and you cannot switch classes ever. This is the case during the Shakespearean era. There were
six total social classes of Elizabethan England. The social class system listed in order from highest
to lowest is; Monarch, Nobility, Gentry, Merchants, Yeomanry, and Laborers. Depending on which
class you were in this would affect your living conditions, authority, wealth, work, lifestyle and
religion. There were also many cultural differences among the social classes during Elizabethan
times.
The wealthiest social class during the Elizabethan era was the Monarch. Queen Elizabeth was at
the top of the social pyramid (BBC). Queen Elizabeth was considered to be at the top of the
social pyramid because she had the most power and authority. The queen and king had a lot of
power over the people; for example, they can make the decision to switch social classes for
certain people of their choosing (Sharnette). The monarch class had a lot of money and did not
have to work because they had enough money to hire people to do work for them. They typically
hired nobles and a few people from the Gentry class. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

15. What Are The Similarities Between Shakespeare And Barabas
Shakespeare and Marlowe were both influenced by the anti Semitic ideas of the society they lived
in. Hence, Shylock from the Merchant of Venice and Barabas from the Jew of Malta is portrayed
as a typical Jew, which was stereotyped in the Elizabethan times. In both plays, a victimized Jew
tries to seek revenge against a Christian, but then eventually fails on the threshold of triumph.
Shylock and Barabas are both rich Jewish men, who are representatives of the same faith. From the
start of each play, both protagonists are portrayed as men to be despised.
Churches forbade Christians from engaging in money lending because they believed that it
endangered the Christian s soul. However, since the Christians regarded the souls of Jews lost, Jews

Money is one of the greatest indicators of how Shylock and Barabbas have confused their priorities,

they are both driven by money and thus, portraying them to be heartless. The audience also believes

17. Sumer, Southern Mesopotamia
writing is the physical manifestation of a spoken language. It is thought that human beings
developed language c. 35,000 BCE as evidenced by cave paintings from the period of the Cro
Magnon Man (c. 50,000 30,000 BCE) which appear to express concepts concerning daily life.
These images suggest a language because, in some instances, they seem to tell a story (say, of a
hunting expedition in which specific events occurred) rather than being simply pictures of animals
and people. Written language, however, does not emerge until its invention in Sumer, southern
Mesopotamia, c. 3500 3000 BCE. This early writing was called cuneiform and consisted of
making specific marks in wet clay with a reed implement. The writing system of the Egyptians
was already in use before the rise of the Early Dynastic Period (c. 3150 BCE) and is thought to
have developed from Mesopotamian cuneiform (though this theory is disputed) and came to be
known as heiroglyphics.

18. The Fall of the House of Usher by Edgar Allan Poe
To begin with, Poe has carefully tailored the narrative in a manner to fit the theory of single effect.
The unnamed narrator suggests that his main job is to narrate. His logical treatment and
explanation of what happens throughout the story adds plausibility and credibility to the narrator.
Darrel Abel described the narrator as Anthropos for he, the narrator, remains uncharacterized,
undescribed and even unnamed (177). Although the reader does not know much about him, the
attention is fully drawn instead to the strangeness in the House of Usher and the horror tour inside
the house. Poe builds a strong connection between the narrator and the reader, The reader

Poe s psychological approach to the story makes the connection between the reader and the
narrator stronger and shows the strategy that Poe adopted in conveying the feelings from the text
into the reader s mind. Thus, what the reader experiences in the process of reading the text reveals
exactly what happens to the narrator. In return, what happens to the narrator suggests the process
the reader undergoes in the reading of Poe s story: The reader becomes an active mediator
containing the psychological effects of the story s utterance, so the narrator s imagination records a
series of psychological effects that constitute the action of Poe s text (Bieganowski 178).
The second element that Poe dedicates to achieving unity of effect is setting. Much of the horror in
The Fall of the House of Usher is achieved through its gloomy setting. The story opens with a
grim start: During the whole of a dull, dark, and soundless day in the autumn of the year, when the
clouds hung oppressively low in the heavens, I had been passing alone, on horseback, through a
singularly dreary tract of country; and at length found myself, as the shades of the evening drew

19. Analysis Of The Santa Ana By Joan Didion
The Santa Ana Joan Didion shows us what The Santa Ana does to the city and the areas around.
Santa Ana is something that people could tell easily just from the behavior of people or how it
feels outside or how the grass looks. Santa Ana is name for a hot wind or something to deal with
hot winds. They blow from the northeast and come down through the Cajon and San Gorgonio
Passes, as well as blowing sand storms along Route 66. Joan mentions how back then, when Native
Americans dealt with the hot winds that they would just throw themselves into the sea when the
hot dry winds blew. She also mentions about how The Pacific looked ominously glossy during a
Santa Ana period. She describes the skies having a yellow cast and would remind

20. Examples Of Anti-Feminism In The Wife Of Bath s Tale
One instance that anti feminism is hugely demonstrated was in the Wife of Bath s tale, where the
knight gets a happy ending and an obedient wife. Her prologue introduces the theme of
sovereignty in her marriages, which is also seen in her tale. However, her belief of sovereignty in
marriage is gone during her marriagewith her fifth husband. After Jankyn submits to her and gives
up everything, she claims that after that day, we never had debate... / there s no wifeyou would
find... / who was so kind / And also true, and so was he to me (Chaucer 828 831). She does end
up receiving the land and finances, but she becomes obedient to her husband. The idea of
sovereignty and obedience is displayed again in the wife s tale. After the knight rapes

21. Tesco s Strategy At The New Retail Market
STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT Tesco s strategy to compete in the new retail market
INTRODUCTION Tesco, UK s largest supermarket is facing a stiff competition from discounters
(Aldi) and to a certain extent from the high end supermarkets (M S) since the past few years.
Tesco s share value fell from 321p in December 2013 to 168.15p in December 2014. (Yahoo,
2015) To add to this depreciating market value and low profits, Tesco has been in the headlines for
a myriad of scams. Such a situation calls for a strategy overhaul. The shortcomings in Tesco s
strategy to deal with the competition and the overall situation of the retail market has been analysed
in this report. Before analysing the current situation and devising a plausible strategy to deal... Show

FIGURE 1: PORTER S GENERIC STRATEGY ADAPTED FROM (UNIVERSITY OF
CAMBRIDGE, 2015) THE CURRENT SITUATION In 2014, Tesco witnessed its worst
financial year in decades with sales plummeting and its market share being lost to the
discounters and upmarket supermarkets. The management team was overhauled and a new
CEO, Dave Lewis, was appointed. Lewis shut 43 unprofitable stores and scrapped the
development of 49 others. (Quinn, 2015) He also brought about various job cuts and sold some
of Tesco s subsidiaries such as the broadband. In his attempt to reduce costs by over a quarter of a
million pounds per annum, he decided to close the Chestnut Headquarters and merge it with the
Welwyn Garden City office, consequently reducing the management overheads (Shapland, 2015)
These and other associated measures are very drastic cost cutting measures, but they alone cannot
revive Tesco. It needs more than just reducing waste and overheads. In the words of Alastair
Dryburgh You can t compete on price with someone who has systematically designed their
business to be cheaper than you. (Dryburgh, 2014) Tesco needs to cope and not compete, and this
issue is highlighted in various contexts in the report. TESCO S RESOURCES AND

22. A Bad Case of Inferiority Essay
Although a reader cannot assume the narrator is also the author, in some instances the
resemblance is uncanny. Charlotte Perkins Gilman s short story The Yellow Wallpaper , drew
on her own experience of undergoing the infamous Rest Cure of Doctor Silas Weir Mitchell to
write her story. According to Gilman, [The story] was not intended to drive people crazy, but to
save people from being driven crazy, and it worked (The Forerunner). Through her platform of
writing Gilman successfully illustrated the inferiority women suffered. The Rest Cure led people
to believe that women should live as domestic a life as far as possible and only be allowed to have
but two hours intellectual life a day, (The Forerunner). These restrictions... Show more content on

According to the Rest Cure women were never to touch pen, brush, or pencil again thus
emulating male dominance over female freedom in the form of artistic expression (The
Forerunner). Within the story the narrator uses writing as an escape; however, she keeps it
completely hidden from her husband. An example of the narrator s submission to her husband s
commands would be as followed: There come John, and I must put this away her hates to have
me write a word, (Gilman 627). By neglecting her own self wants the narrator gives into the will
of her husband. This action of compliance shows the power that men can have and how they
sometimes exercise that power to make women feel inferior. The nursery, exemplifies the theme
of inferiority, serves as the main setting for the story. The irony is that the ill person needs to be
taken care of and resides in the nursery; thus, the husband is treating the narrator like a child.
Through diction the reader can clearly see how the narrator is made to feel inferior. An example
of inferiority would be when John calls the narrator little girl after she is caught walking around
the house alone (Gilman 632). The phrase is most associated with little children not with grown
women. By calling his wife a childish name he treats her with even less respect much like a

23. Four Dimensionssions Of Film Sound In The 1960 s Film Psycho
Answer 1:
There are four dimensions of film sound that can be found in this clip from the 1960 s film Psycho,
these are rhythm, fidelity, space, and time. When directing this scene Alfred Hitchcock had to make
a lot of decisions regarding sound in it. Each of these choices has different implications and will
affect the audience differently.
Let s start with fidelity, I believe Hitchcock purposely implemented a lot of fidelity in this scene. I
think he used common and familiar environmental sounds in the background while Marion was
completing mundane tasks before entering the shower. This is apparent when Marion ripped a
piece of paper out of a notebook, tore it up, and then flush it down the toilet. Hitchcock chose to
allow the audience to hear these sounds for a few reasons. First, it provides the viewer with a more
complete experience. Second, it keeps the viewer s attention more present because the scene is
more realistic and natural. Lastly, Hitchcock used these sounds as the camera followed Marion to
the shower, this allows time and action to continue smoothly over a series of shots making the
temporal duration rhythmic.
Next is space and how sound affects the viewer s perspective of it. While in the shower the loudest
noise is the water falling, after a few seconds the viewer gets used to the tranquil sound of the
water falling. By making the sound of the water so loud it makes the viewer feel like they are
close, maybe even in the shower. Loudness is related to

topic because it tells me how engineers aren t always perfect, and the can have flaws. Lost Moon:
The perilous voyage of Apollo 13, by Jeffrey Kluger and James Lovell .In April 1970 during the
glory days of the Apollo space program, NASA sent navy captain Jim Lovell and two other
astronauts on America s seventh mission to the moon. Only fifty five hours into the mission when
disaster struck. A mysterious explosion rocked the ship and soon its oxygen and power began to
drain away. Commander Lovell and his crew watched in alarm as the cockpit grew darker, the air
grew thinner, and the instruments winked out one by one.
The space crew was scared not knowing what to do or what would happen, their lives were at

in radiography. Then review and summarize an article pertaining to this topic that was selected.
Then it will be connected to how it is valuable it is as a future radiographer and to professionals
and how it is relevant. The topic that will be discussed is the effect on radiation exposure in
pediatric patients with c arm fluoroscopy. This is because one of the most common radiographic
procedures for pediatric patients is fluoroscopy and it is important to lower their radiation dose as
much as possible. C arm is known to have high amounts of radiation to the patient and if a patient

In the class, it has been stressed that there is an importance to lower the radiation dose to the
patient. It is important to lower the dose of radiation because it reduces the chance of radiation
induced complications. It is the one of the priorities of a radiographer to reduce the radiation
dose to the patient. This article was informative of another way to reduce the dose to the patient.
Radiation dose for all patients should be reduced as much as possible because radiation does
have harmful effects and should be limited throughout a year. The project was done to determine
if having a laser targeting system would decrease the radiation dose by eliminating unintentional
radiation prior to localizing the region of interest (Schenk Johnston p. 39). The idea behind laser
targeting was to limit and reduce the time it took to do the procedure, by reducing time exposed
to radiation it lowers the dose to the patient. The laser aids the technologist in properly aligning
the c arm in the desired position without exposing the patient to radiation (Schenk Johnston p.
42). Before the radiation dose was higher because the part of interest was located while radiation
was occurring. Now to know that the laser can locate the part of interest before exposing the
patient to radiation will help allow me to reduce patient dose if there is a laser with that particular
fluoroscopic machine. Even though this experiment was done using pediatric patients, it is
relevant information for adult patients as well because it is important to lower radiation dose
regardless of age. This information will be helpful in the future because fluoroscopy is a common
procedure and if there is a laser available on the machine, it should be utilized so radiographers and
students can help reduce the radiation dose to that patient especially, now that it was found to have
some effect on

26. Theodore Roosevelt View On Imperialism
Theodore Roosevelt: I believe that America has a destiny to expand. Now that we have occupied
all of the continental United States, it is time to occupy other territories and gain new states around
the world. When we own places like this, especially near Asia, we will have much more
opportunities to expand our markets and grow our economy. Also, having ports throughout the
Pacific Oceanwill help us create a strong naval force, which will give our great nation global
power. Imperialism is the key to a strong, honored country.
Mark Twain: I believe that Imperialism would make our nation strong in some ways, but weak in
more important others. It may give our nation global eminence in military and trade. However, it
takes the land belonging to native people, and creates a mode of self interest from it. In the treaty
of Paris, instead of civilizing the people of the Philippines and bringing them Christianity, it
oppresses them, conquers them, and kills them. There is no moral excuse for this conduct. America
will be seen as weak because, instead of honorably setting a people up for prosperity, it shuns,
weakens, and destroys them. Imperialism is the key to a controlling, tyrant country.
Theodore Roosevelt: Nonsense. America is destined to become a global power. If there is no other
way to do this except by oppressing another nation, it must be done. We must not let anything get in
the way of our rise to global recognition.

Our family life was pretty good. My husband Anthony would go to work and the kids played. But
that didn t last for long. I had to pay taxes for things like sugar and documents and if that didn t

and now tea! Even though it is way less of tax I could be a trick. We don t even get
Representation so why are we paying these taxes! Thankfully we have the Sons of Liberty to show
Britain to back off and we formed a unity with the colonies called the Committees of
Correspondence . But even that did not last. Shortly after, Britain banned the Committees of
Correspondence and what affected me most was that they forced us to buy the tea and if we didn t
they would close the Boston harbor.
My husband says, we don t need to pay for the tea we can wait for others to pay for the tea and
then get the thing we want. But that is not what I do first of all I need my tea, and second I feel
like I should help the other people to pay for the tea. You thought this was it? Well it s not, there

28. Formation Mechanism And Death Of The Chimneys
The geosystem to be explored is specifically the formation mechanism and death of the chimneys.
Hydrothermal vents usually occurs along tectonically active regions and are characterized by
geothermally heated water exiting from the sea bed. Cold water percolates through the sea bed and
travels through the bedrock. This cold water becomes heated geothermally and dissolves metals and
sulfides from surrounding rocks. The enriched hot water, superheated to on average 350вЃ°C, is
buoyant and escapes through an opening in the sea floor. The vent fluid exits the sea floor with a
flow rate up to several meters per second. As the hot enriched water comes into contact with the
cold sea water, a precipitationreaction occurs and the dissolved metals and sulfides precipitate out
along the vent opening. As more fluid is ejected from the vent, the taller the chimney grows.
Although many vents are depicted to have a single vent pipe through the chimney, they are
actually branched, as shown in figure 1 (Tivey and Delaney 1986). Black smokers specifically are
characterized by the black soot filled plume, primarily consisting of pyrrhotite, sphalerite, pyrite,
and traces of cubanite, rapidly flowing upwards from the seabed. Hydrothermal vents are
ephemeral by nature, and flow will stop randomly and permanently, leading to the death of the
chimney. Figure 1: On the left is the often used simplification of a single piped vent chimney from

four laws that most affect the provider and receiver of care. They are tort law, criminal law,

There are decisions that are based on the values of others concerned in the health care of loved
ones. For instance if a patient is living on life support devices it may be up to the family to
decide to take he or she off of the life support system. It is the doctors obligation to adhere by their
wishes, but also to be sure that there is nothing else possible to do in order to save the person s life.
Many professional groups such as physicians and attorneys hold themselves accountable through a
set of ethical guidelines, but public health professionals have no code of ethics.
Perhaps the explanation is that no single public health profession exists, but rather a variety of
different disciplines. Indeed, some public health disciplines have their own ethical codes e.g.,

aggression can be. (406) I had a hard time seeing the relationship between the Road rage and
technology. Though road rage is definitely dangerous, I did not feel that this was relevant at this

he fails to suppress Jack s aggression and savagery (Golding, 1962). In addition, Piggy acts as a

The certain type of offense that many are calling for in Gainesville is the spread option philosophy,

Whoever the next head coach is for the Gators, they will inherit a plethora of talent on the
offensive of the ball. As it stands, they will also likely walk into one of the best recruiting classes
of the 2018 cycle, highlighted by 4 star quarterback Matt Corral. Corral has reiterated multiple times
that he is committed to the Florida Gators and will be early enrolling despite the coaching changes.
From a recruiting standpoint, Corral is a west coast type of prospect that can arrive in Gainesville
and compete day one at the quarterback positions. The different skillset he will provide for this
position group is something the unit has been missing for quite some time. The ability to extend
plays, throw on the run, and move the chains with his legs separates Corral from many
quarterbacks in this class. He has a legitimate opportunity to start game one next season, with the
inadequate play Florida has seen from multiple quarterbacks this season. For a spread offensive
scheme, Corral is the perfect fit.
But, along with Corral, the next coach will need to get wide receiver prospects Jacob Copeland

Disturbances of Acid Base Balance
If an acid base disturbance shifts the pH outside of the physiologic range, various control measures
are activated to resist the change in pH. Compensatory mechanisms try to preserve the normal 20:1
ratio of bicarbonate to carbonic acid to keep the pH at normal range. The body works to maintain
normal ratios through a compensation mechanism using renal and respiratory methods (Crowley,
2010).
Metabolic Alkalosis
Metabolic alkalosis is seen by an increase in the concentration of plasma bicarbonate relative to the
concentration of carbonic acid, which shifts the pH to the alkaline side of the physiologic range
(case study pH 7.5). The main causes of metabolic alkalosis are loss of gastric juice or ... Show

Excessive use of antacids (case study using more than the recommended dose) may also cause
metabolic alkalosis by neutralizing gastric acid, which has the same effect as loss from vomiting.
Ingesting sodium bicarbonate as an antacid to neutralize gastric acid has the same effect as any
other antacid. Any sodium bicarbonate ingested that exceeds the amount required to neutralize the
gastric acid will be absorbed, contributing further to metabolic alkalosis.
Chloride depletion also results from loss of GI secretions caused by severe vomiting (case study)
or diarrhea. Chloride and bicarbonate are the two main anions in the plasma, and their
concentrations vary inversely. When the plasma chloride falls, plasma bicarbonate rises to keep the
total concentration of anions in the extracellular fluids in check.
An excess secretion of adrenal corticosteroids that regulate salt and water metabolism
(mineralocorticoids) often causes metabolic alkalosis, and potassium depletion. A major site of
action of corticosteroids is the distal renal tubule, where the hormone promotes absorption of
sodium in exchange for potassium, which is secreted into the tubular filtrate. An excess of

36. Stereotypes In The Woman Warrior
The woman warrior by Maxine Kingston elaborates readers what it was like to grow up as a
female Chinese American. Kingston came to America as a little girl with her family. Even
though she was in America, she still had to deal with old Chinese traditions. Traditions where
women were seen as useless and as slaves. But, Kingston refused to believe that women are
worthless. She states, When one of my parents or the emigrant villagers said, feeding girls is
feeding cowbirds , I would thrash on the floor and scream so hard (pg. 46). Therefore, Kingston
fabricates her own versions of stories where she portrays herself as a warrior who is a hero rather
than a useless individual.
I believe Kingston tells stories to obliterate social perceptions of the woman in the traditional
Chinese society. Based on Chinese traditions that Kingston cultured from her parents and the
stories that her mother told, Kingston was under the perception that Chinese girls must only
become a good wife and bare children. However, I believe Kingston refused the gender role
defined by the traditional Chinese culture and used fictionalized stories to showcase that women

Otherness in Euripides Bacchae and Soyinka s The Bacchae of Euripides
Both Euripides and Wole Soyinka are focused on a fundamental ethical imperative in their plays:
welcome the stranger into your midst. Acceptance of Dionysus as a god, as an essence that will
not exclude or be excluded , is stressed (Soyinka 1). Pentheus is punished severely for excluding,
for refusing to acknowledge or submit to, Dionysus divine authority. In order to carve out a place
for himself (in the pantheon, in the minds of the people), Dionysus divinity manifests itself in an
overtly political manner: its effect on those who worship him. This struggle for acceptance is first
given voice in the confrontation between Pentheus and Teiresias in each play.... Show more content

Dionysus mother being a mortal woman, both Pentheuses also question Dionysus ascension to the
divine. Ironically, Dionysus lineage is also intimately connected to Pentheus; they are, in fact,
cousins. Nevertheless, Pentheus invokes images of bastardy and usurpation to undercut any
legitimate divine authority claimed by Dionysus.
It is Teiresias, along with Cadmus, Pentheus father, who first stands as an emissary of Dionysus to
refute Pentheus claims and to warn him of the dangers that await him. Both Teiresiases understand
that Dionysus divinity is not derived from simple genealogy. Divine authority cannot be described
in solely rational, orderly terms. Dionysus represents the ascendance of another sound, a new order
(Soyinka 13). Though both blind prophets urge Pentheus to accept Dionysus, the underlying
method of persuasion used by each playwright is distinctly different.
Euripedes Teiresias advocates worship of Dionysus as a method of self abandonment, while
Soyinka s seer espouses acceptance as a fundamental step toward self knowledge. Joining in the

responses. They appreciate a customer service representative who is willing to admit mistakes and
work to correct them. Customers who believe they have been misled stop doing business with the
company. These critical incidents are experiences that make the customer walk away and never
return. They don t complain, they just leave and share the negative service experience with others.
The bad news spreads, leading the organisation to lose more customers and deterring prospective
customers. Critical incidents can include broken promises that annoy and anger customers.
Customers expect to be informed if a promise cannot be fulfilled. Finally, customers expect
understanding and empathy from a customer service representative who is willing to see things
from their point of view, especially when there is a problem. пЃ® Service encounter experience
The service encounter experience determines future levels of service and profit generated by the
organisation. It is where emotions of the service user and the customer service representative meet
in real time; most people judge service quality within the first few moments. Service is often
described as emotional labour , because it demands service personnel to engage their emotions in
their work in a way that a production line role does not. The science of customer service treats
customer satisfaction as a function

AIDS is a prominent issue in our world today, and because of its prevalence, many institutions try
to take preventative measures to stifle the epidemic. Acquired immune deficiency syndrome, or
AIDS, is a syndrome caused by the HIV virus. It weakens a person s immune system which makes
the body incapable of defending itself against various diseases and infections. When left untreated
AIDScould lead to death (Avert.org). The Administration at Camden County College has installed
condomdispensers in the college s restrooms, as an attempt to prevent the spread of AIDS on

There are no dorms on campus, and therefore, no immediate need for condoms on campus. If a
student is in need of condoms there are numerous places between the college and his house where
he could stop to obtain them. Condoms are available at health centers, superstores, drugstores,
convenience stores, and even gas stations, making them very accessible (NSW Government Health).
One argument people make in favor of the installation of condom dispensers is that some people
may be too embarrassed to purchase them in stores. There are numerous options available for
people who shy away from purchasing condoms, for example, the self check out isle which is an
option at most superstores, or online purchase. Either of these options offers just as much, if not

The Effects of Russian Culture on Military Operations in That Region
Introduction
Understanding a country s culture as it pertains to military operations is highly important in the
modern era. Dictionary.com defines culture as the behaviors and beliefs characteristic of a
particular social, ethnic, or age group . There are many examples throughout history that show the
negative consequences of ignoring or misunderstanding the cultures of other countries. The most
recent example is our long sustained operations in the Middle East. We have operated in the
Middle East for the better part of two and a half decades. Through our own successes and failures,
it is obvious how important cultural awareness can be. The mistakes we have made have created
more animosity towards our military and our country in general. Over the last decade, our
government has worked continuously to understand and teach those lessons to our service
members. Through those efforts, we have been able to win over many of the hearts and minds that
we lost during the early part of the 1990 s and 2000 s. Continuing these practices in the future, with
countries such as Russia, will allow us to overcome many of the mistakes and problems we have
encountered in the past.

47. Corporate Social Responsibility ( Csr )
Overview of Corporate Social Responsibility
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is difficult to define because it relates to so many different
types of businesses and organizations. In the Exploring Management textbook, it broadly describes
CSR as the obligation of an organization to serve its own interests and those of its stakeholders
(Schermerhorn Bachrach, 2016, p. 38). Then CSR is broken down into two differing viewpoints,
Classical view and the Socioeconomic view. Classical view is concerned about the maximization
of profits. On the other hand, Socioeconomic is centered around the society and how business or
corporations positively impact society (Schermerhorn Bachrach, 2016, p. 39). CSR has to be
tailored to each organization for the company to understand the true meaning of it and how it
affects the company as a whole. When companies make decisions they should think about the
three P s people, profit, and planet. How will this affect people and the society as a whole? Will
this idea/invention bring economic benefits to the company? Lastly, how does the product or
company affect the planet (Schermerhorn Bachrach, 2016, p. 39)? Originally companies were not
concerned or did not know the social impacts the company could have on the people and/or the
environment hence the classical view. Now people have realized that businesses should balance the
pursuit of profit with genuine contributions to the public good (Schermerhorn Bachrach, 2016, p.

48. Tax Credit In Canada
In Canada, students attending university or college are entitled to a tuition, education and textbook

objective of this policy is to support post secondary students in pursuing their higher education.
However, this method of the government in helping students to finance their post secondary
educationhas always been an issue and there are different opinions towards this taxcredit.
From the view of Canada government, Canada Revenue Agency describes this tuition, education

to pay. In an article posted by the Conservative Party of Canada in 2015, ... Show more content on

Vertical equity means charging more tax from individuals with higher ability to pay tax. Based on
Haig Simons definitions, the ability of paying tax is dependent on the individual s ability to
consume. Students with higher income or from wealthier families have a higher consumption
ability. However, the tax credit provides the same amount of subtraction from students tax payable,
no matter if they have rich or poor. This has contradicted with the principle of letting the rich pays
more. Special treatment is needed in establishing vertical equity for this tuition, education and
textbooks tax credit. For example, (give out different tax credit to students based on their income
(?)) Despite of the vertical inequity, this tax credit achieves horizontal equity. Horizontal equity
means that individuals in the same position with the same ability pay the same amount of tax.
While everyone are offered with the same amount of tax credit, students with the same income or
similar financial situation get the same amount of tax subtraction. Thus, horizontal equity is
established in this tuition, education and textbook tax credit

49. Reflection About Diversity
When you ask people what the first word that comes to mind when they think of diversity, they
usually reply with race, socioeconomic status, or other demographic elements. Diversity entails a
multitude of factors, yet can also be connected to the individual experience. Growing up, my
identity has been strongly tied to my upbringing in an Italian household with my father, mother,
and brother. Considering my father s parents emigrated from Liguria, the birthplace of pesto,
growing basil allowed us to maintain a connection with our heritage. As a child, I remember
playing in my backyard with my brother, careful to not roll the ball in the dirt where the basil was
growing. That would ruin the fun of picking it with my dad and making it with my mom. Yet, the
truly satisfying aspect of this tradition was sitting down as a family and sharing a meal complete
with numerous anecdotes.
Religion was also a large part of my heritage so I attended Catholic school until my enrollment in
UC Berkeley. Thus, I adopted a commitment to live by Catholic values especially in regards to
serving the less fortunate. In elementary school, numerous community service trips to local
homeless shelters were organized. These trips always served as a baffling experience as it shocked
me how people with so little could have such a positive outlook on life and be so grateful. Every
act, even that as simple as retrieving a napkin, was met with a polite thank you. My service
experiences also extended to those I participated in as a Girl Scout troop, including volunteering at
disadvantaged preschools and bowling with special needs children. As such, these experiences were
a contributing factor to my desire to pursue a career in medicine, as it was a profession that focused
on the betterment of the community.
Another force that propelled me to pursue medicine was my hearing impairment. From the age of 6,
I would request that I sit up at the front of the class so I could hear the teacher better. Responses
were mixed over the years, with some teachers simply dismissing my request, claiming that would
project their voices. Some even suggested that I transfer to a school for the hearing impaired.
Frankly, I was confused as nothing about my

However, as realized by Aravind s manager, the uptake of services in the rural area declined due
to lack of awareness. The decline was predominant, since awareness is a crucial vehicle of
marketing. The rural population was supposed to be informed about the necessity of eye care, and
educated on why surgery should be considered as the best possible solution in some
circumstances. The lack of awareness became a major issue when the doctors realized that cataract
was the major problem and the only solution was surgery. It was indeed very challenging since
there is no alternative other than providing the quality of care that best suits the patient.
Inconsistency Even though the case study doesn t specify on cases of inconsistency during service
delivery, some events make the hospital s personnel prone to inconsistency. The healthcare journal
defines inconsistency as the inability to offer the replica of services to the patient due to nature of
treatment. Firstly, there is an increased number of doctors in the hospital. The subordinate staff
includes village girls aged between 17 19 years old. These young women are expected to help
professionals on their assignments. It is highly likely that the existences of circumstances when

Contrasting one thing and another is an ordinary piece of human choice making process. Be that as

52. Media And Journalism Ethics By Bill Kovach And Tom Rosensteil
Serving the public s interest has always been an objective for the media. The ethic codes emphasize
that journalists serve the public and that that they are dedicated to truth and fairness. (Foreman
2010 P.25) This has been adopted by journalism organizations within this nation.
Distasteful content is an ethical dilemma for the press, it is a difficult issue what is acceptable to
one person may not be acceptable to another. As well as this newspapers and commercial television
are under a great amount of pressure to deliver quality news that stands out from their competitors,
this can have an impact on the material that they decide to use.
Journalists, Bill Kovach and Tom Rosensteil s were guided by these beliefs and formed a
definition of journalisms primary purpose which is to provide citizens with the information they
need to be free and self governing. (Foreman 2010 p.25)
In his book Media and Journalism Ethics S.P. Phadke has stated that journalists are the formulators
and disseminators of news they have a great responsibility both morally and pragmatically. As it is
through them that citizen s view the world, and they set the agenda for social concern and debate.
(Phadke 2008)
In their book The Elements of Journalism Kovach and Rosensteil highlight this point The news
media help us to define our communities and help us create a common language and common
