The Effects Of Alcoholism On The Native American Population
Most people do not end up becoming alcoholics because they are completely satisfied with their life,
happy and joyful, and drinking only to celebrate. Yes, it is highly likely that genetics play an important
role in the formation of the disease, but a majority of alcoholics drink because they have endured
some great trauma. This can either be from trauma from an outside source or emotional turmoil from
within. The difference between an alcoholic who drinks because of instances of domestic abuse or
clinical depression versus a Native American alcoholic is that the average person s alcoholism is
symptomatic of individual experiences. Alcoholism among the native population is encouraged by
overwhelming and uncontrollable outside cultural forces. This is all to say that when Louis writes
about his recovery from alcoholism and the effects of the disease on the Native American population,
he is reaching beyond the surface implications of excessive drink and moving toward the causes and
conditions of that substance abuse. Alcoholism is representative of the struggles the people on Pine
Ridge Reservation endure because of EuroAmerican oppression. Beer, blood, soil, home writes Louis
on page 46. It is all one in the same, representative of a larger trauma that needs to be healed. The Art
of Confession While the act of confession carries a distinctly Roman Catholic connotation, it is a
universally recognized practice. Murray Swank et al. write, Confessional rituals within Indian

The Handmaid s Tale Propaganda
The propaganda presented by Gilead is used to create a facade of benevolence and in the hope of
masking the reality of their distorted world. The most prominent example being the second news
segment which shows a close shot of a prisoner, with a stubbled and dirty face, flanked by two Angels
in their neat black uniforms (82). Even within the first image it is clear the rebels are to be thought of
as unhygienic whereas the Angels are clean and well put together, representing someone to be proud
of. Gilead choses this juxtaposition for two reasons, the first being for viewers to associate a sense of
disgust with the prisoners and their lifestyle. The second intention is to further the idea that life within
Gilead is much better than the life of the dirty prisoners. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gilead choses this scene assuming that viewers will see the prisoner s acceptance of the cigarette as a
show of submission as if the prisoners are being saved from themselves and their way of life.
Furthermore, this displays the Angels as kind and generous due to them treating the prisoner as if he
was a child who knew no better. This leaves the viewers believing Gilead must be somewhat good if
they treat rebels with sympathy despite the atrocious acts they have committed against their citizens.
In conclusion, this news segment gives the viewers a false sense of security within their government.
Whereas if Gilead had chose to show Angels assassinating prisoners it would advance the idea that
Gilead is inhumane and

The Importance Of A Childcare Facility As A Provider
When opening a childcare facility as a provider, it is important to gain knowledge in every aspect of
the business of childcare. It is common when thinking of business goals, owners think about the
financial success. They also visualize how picture perfect their business will be. It is also common that
they fail to realize the many obstacles come into play, which may have never crossed their minds
when having a business. This purpose of this review is to discuss in depth the various responsibilities
that comes with having a childcare facility. This review will also go in point out some various topics,
and necessities that comes with having a childcare facility. Understanding who the clients are, and
what their needs are becomes a priority. The quality of Education when planning a childcare facility is
a key factor, in some cases the financial status a family carries may play a role in it. Providers become
understanding and educated on the stress factors they may experience while having a childcare
facility. They may learn about what strategies they will use to cope with the stressors.
Being financially prepared ranges from being financially ready to open a business and financially
ready to keep the facility open. Budgeting plays a big role when opening a business ... lack of the

Reaction Lab Report Essay
Important equations:
Molarity = moles of solute / liters of solution
E = hν = hc/λ
Elight = hνlight = hc/λlight = ΔE = EUO EOO
Objective:
We will be using various combinations of distilled water, hydrogen peroxide, malonic acid, ascorbic
acid (Vitamin C), acetic acid (Vinegar), starch solution, laundry detergent, iodine tincture, manganese
sulfate, and sulfamic acid to produce multiple pairs of solutions labeled Solution A and Solution B.
The goal is to either observe the process of fluorescence or the absence of fluorescence. Fluorescence
is the chemical property of generating light after undergoing the process of absorbing and emitting a
certain amount of energy, directly causing a physical change in the substance s color. Mixing Solution
A and Solution B, while viewing the results under UV light from time to time, should result in the new
solution constantly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Make sure to pour Solution B into Solution A, then mix throughly.
Observations:
After swirling the resulting solution, its appearance kept cycling through the color yellow and
appearing colorless. However, there was constantly a small patch of blue residue caused by some
undissolved starch powder. There was some gas formation during this process. After 5 minutes, we
stopped swirling the beaker and let it sit in the fume hood. 15 to 20 minutes later, the solution began to
turn dark blue.
PART B:
Making ascorbic acid (Vitamin C solution)
Obtain one vitamin C tablet and place it into a mortar and pestle. Crush the tablet until it becomes a
fine powder. Next, move the powder into a new 50 mL beaker and pour exactly 1 tablespoon of
distilled water into the beaker. Then, obtain a glass stir rod to partially mix the solution, allowing any
remaining solids to drown to the bottom of the beaker. Keep track of this beaker since the acid will be
utilized throughout the remainder of the

Rational Choice Theory Research Paper
Why do people commit crimes? Some individuals only commit one crime and learn their lesson,
others however become repeat offenders. In the scientific study of criminology, one gains an
understanding of why a person commits a crime, and one can develop ways to control crime or
rehabilitate the criminal. Criminology is guided by dozens of existing theories, some more
distinguished than others.
The rational choice theory of criminology says that people make logical choices about under what
circumstances to commit crime. Rational choice theory originated during the late 18th century with
the work of Cesare Beccaria. The rational choice perspective has been applied to a wide range of
crimes, including robbery, drug use, vandalism, and white collar

The Pursuit Of Happiness In The Contemporary Era
The pursuit of happiness is a common zeitgeist feature that occurs across all of the humanities. The
way individuals pursue this happiness varies depending on how the time period has influences them.
This zeitgeist feature is especially apparent during the Contemporary era. There are many
advancements in the area of technology, causing one to detach from reality. The entertainment
industry allows for seriousness to be critiqued. There is a sense of paranoia stirred up by the Cold War.
The contemporary era also deals with the idea of fragmentation, which stems into different areas of
life. Each of these elements relate to one s pursuit of happiness during the contemporary era, as well
as past and future eras. Cinema in the contemporary era symbolizes the area in which it is born
because of the high dependence on technology (Kuhns). The film 13 Conversations About One Thing
provide visual evidence of this idea the pursuit of happiness and how disconnectedness plays a role in
this pursuit. In the beginning, Troy is very confident and lives in the moment. He makes a comment
about having to earn happiness, and he says that he has indeed earned happiness. Troy considers his
pursuit of happiness to have stemmed from hard work and success. This relates back to the drive for
economic prosperity within the corporate world is from the previous era. However, after hitting
Beatrice with his car, he is riding in a cab, and the cab driver tells him to smile because he looks so
serious.

Explain Two Issues Related To Juvenile Delinquency
Two issues that are related to juvenile delinquency are substance abuse and mental health issues. The
Juvenile Justice System is contantly being reevaluated for reform. The desensitization of today s youth
to drugs and violence can lead to them trying drugs for the first time at younger ages. Soceity is also
seeing an increase in young people with mental health issues today than ever before. My wife worked
in a local residential treatment facility for at risk youth for several years. Substance abuse and mental
health issues were recurring themes with the youth who entered that facility. The treatment began with
the individual and where possible included the family. **As a juvenile probation officer I would be

Khaled Hosseini s The Long-Distance Runner
So many people have tried to explain how life should be viewed, yet in my mind no one has gotten in
quite right. To me there are only two ways to articulate how we live our own personal lives. These two
choices are life as a run, and life as a race; depending on which you choose it can drastically change
the way you perceive life as a whole. Each person, as an individual, has their own choice on how they
view their personal life; however, they should know the differences between the two. How most
people have been raised in today s time, or raised as a millennial, have been told to live their life as a
run. Now a run does not have to be a fast pace, it is your own pace. We are told now and days that you
don t have to rush things and to go ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If one chooses to live as a race they choose to live for milestone s, for the next big thing in their life, to
live like they might never see tomorrow. On the other side of the spectrum we have people who
choose to live their life as a run, like most millennials are raised to. They live as if time isn t a factor to
them, and they will eventually take care of something when they feel as though they are ready and
able. Either way someone lives they can choose to live as a race or as a run, and you can change that

Why I Want To Pursue A Master Of Science Degree
Education is not preparation for life; Education is life for itself.
These are the words of John Dewey, which have led an everlasting impression on my mind. It relates
to the idea of lifelong learning, and the knowledge that education is much more than what lies within
the curriculum. Whenever I pause by to reflect on my ken of knowledge, I feel that how little I have
learnt and that an enormous, unknown and fascinating wealth of knowledge lies before me, yet to be
explored. Education is like an edifice based on strong rudiments and strengthened by the fundamentals
and practical skills acquired during one s lifetime. So my main goal is to design the next generation
innovations in field rather than being just a user of existing technologies and findings. So I intend to
pursue Master of Science degree in Automotive software Engineering at your university as the first
step towards obtaining a PHD.
Nothing is Impossible in Life has always been a motivating force behind all my achievements. I
strongly believe that enjoy what we do and having the passion to pursue, we can ultimately achieve
our destination, no matter how much efforts are needed. My inherent urge and interest to pursue
engineering emanates from an instinctive inclination for Physics and Mathematics since my schooling.
From early childhood, I was very captivated with electronic appliances around me. I would ask my
parents about their principle of working. I always tried to find out what basic elements and

A Comparison Between Neanderthal And Modern Human Dna
Introduction
Homo heidelbergensis was an early human species that lived around 700,000 to 200,000 years ago.
These pioneers were the first to live in colder climates, hunt large animals with wooden spears, and
utilize fire. They were also our first ancestors to construct simple shelters out of wood and rock.
Interestingly a comparison between Neanderthal and modern human DNA suggests the two lineages
diverged from a common ancestor, most likely Homo heidelbergensis!
Discovery
On October 21, 1907, Daniel Hartmann spotted a jaw while working in a sandpit in Mauer, near
Heidelberg, Germany (49.3389° N, 8.7986° E.) The jaw had human like teeth but was very large and

H. 2000), which were found together with stone tools and the remains of more than 10 butchered
horses. This evidence shows they flourished in a rich and diverse cooling epoch called the Pleistocene,
which was a cooling period with intermittent glaciers covering North America and Europe (Eldredge
2000) and deserts spread over northern Africa separating the populations of plants and animals,
including humans (Zuk 2013). These cooling and recurrent glaciations led to the physical adaptation
of shorter and wider bodies in an attempt to conserve heat in this cooler climate.
Dating
Many fossils of this species have been dated with various methods. One such was by sequencing
mitochondrial DNA from a femur bone found at the Sima de los Huesos ( pit of bones ) in northern
Spain by Svante Paabo, a biologist at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology. After
sequencing, researchers compared the result with genetic information from Neanderthals and
Denisovans and dated them to over 300,000 years (Meyer 2013).
Description
The first preserved bones for this species was a lower jaw with teeth, found near Heidelberg,
Germany. Other fossils include 5,500 bone fragments from 28 individuals found in The Pit of Bones ,
Spain, and possibly a fossilized skullcap discovered in northern India s Narmada Valley that currently
represents the easternmost occurrence (Meyer 2013).

Indigenous Tribes of Latin America
Indigenous People of Latin America
Throughout the world, when new lands were conquered, old customs would be lost. However, in Latin
America, a great deal of their indigenous tribes not only survived being conquered, they are still
around today. Different regions of Latin America are home to different peoples and many tribes are
part of ancient full fledged kingdoms. Some of these kingdoms are among the most well known in the
world.
The Meso American native peoples make Latin America famous. These peoples include the Aztecs
and Mayans. The Aztecs are most famous for their mathematical prowess and their calendars are
exceptionally accurate. Meanwhile, the Mayans are known for creating a fully written language and

Their language, Quechua is still in use today.
The Incas of Cusco originally represented one of these small and relatively minor ethnic groups, the
Quechuas. Gradually, as early as the thirteenth century, they began to expand and incorporate their
neighbors. Inca expansion was slow until about the middle of the fifteenth century. The Inca were
warriors with a strong and powerful army. Because of the fierceness of their army and their
hierarchical organization, they became the largest Native American society. Quechua is the most
widely spoken language and was the language of the Inca Empire.
Tropical rainforests have long been home to indigenous peoples who have shaped civilizations and
cultures based on the environment in which they live. Great civilizations like the Mayas, Incas, and
Aztecs developed complex societies and made great contributions to science. Living from nature and
lacking the technology to dominate their environment, native peoples have learned to watch their
surroundings and understand the intricacies of the rainforest. Over generations these people have
learned the importance of living within their environment and have come to rely on the countless
renewable benefits that forests can provide.
In Peru, it is estimated that there are at least 15 uncontacted tribes living in remote areas of the
Peruvian Amazon Rainforest. These include the Tagaeri, Taromenane, uncontacted

My Journey In Life
Everyone has a story to share, none less important than the other, and a past that helped to create the
people we are today. As I begin my journey into the world of adulthood, the feelings of excitement

one day discover, as I sat in my room thinking about life s next chapter that was about unfold in front

enviorment I was raised in and the values my mother instilled in me since the age of 5. Coming from a

ago. Now it is only a party of two which consists of only myself and my mother. My household was
chaotic, due to the many disputes that occured on a daily basis, one parent always disatisfied with the
other . As a small child not many thoughts would run through my mind as I saw my parents fighting
and my dad drinking. To me it seemed normal because at least I had both my parents and it would get
better eventually. Eventually never came, the fighting and the drinking progressed as I grew, and the
bitterness that accumulated over the years overcame me and now it wasn t just a fight between
partners, it was a fight between child and father. Everyday was a constant battle

Marijuana Essay
Marijuana
The third largest agricultural good in the nation and a ten billion dollar industry has nothing to do with
the agriculture we are use to. This good is Marijuana, an illegal drug. It is the most widely used illicit
drug in America n(Gold v). In Florida alone, marijuana sales are greater than all businesses except
tourism (Gold v). What is marijuana? Marijuana, a plant, known as Cannabis Sativa, labeled that by
Carolus Linnaeus in 1753 (Grinspoon 1), is one of nature s hardiest specimens (Abel ix). It can
survive in any climatic condition possible, and flourishes like weeds do. Marijuana acts like a weed,

From smoking marijuana, an euphoric sense is produced. This os the high that draws people to smoke
marijuana. They fall into a languid state, and time slows down for them. The psychoactive compound
that creates this euphoric sense is delta 9 THC. Marijuana s potency varies. In the female plants
flowers is the greater concentration of cannabinoids, related compounds to delta 9 THC (Abel 5).
Sinsemilla, a seedless version of marijuana, that has been cultivated in recent years, has much higher
concentrations of THC throughout the plant (Abel 5). The amount of THC that is present depends on
the conditions the plant is raised in (Gold 261). Cannabis that is grown in temperate climates contains
little delta 9 THC and a high concentration of cannabidiol. Cannabis grown in hot climates has a
greater delta 9 THC concentration and barely any cannabidiol. It is these plants that are grown in the
hotter climates that are cultivated for their psychoactive effects. Marijuana contains almost 30% THC;
however, 50% of that is destroyed when it is burned, such as when it is smoked (Gold261). The
smallest amount of THC that produces a high is 5 mg, but since 50% is destroyed, it is really 2.5 mg
(Gold 262). The effects, of marijuana, can be felt in five to fifteen minutes, and the maximum effects
are felt in sixty minutes.
Marijuana, when smoked, creates a hallucinating effect. Its psychological effects are: excitement and
dissociation of ideas, enhancement of

The Postal System During The 19th Century
The postal system played a crucial role in national expansion. It facilitated expansion into the West by
creating an inexpensive, fast, convenient communication system. Letters from early settlers provided
information and boosterism to encourage increased migration to the West, helped scattered families
stay in touch and provide assistance, assisted entrepreneurs in finding business opportunities, and
made possible regular commercial relationships between merchants in the west and wholesalers and
factories back east. The postal service likewise assisted the Army in expanding control over the vast
western territories. The widespread circulation of important newspapers by mail, such as the New
York Weekly Tribune, facilitated coordination ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the Post Office expanded, difficulties were experienced due to a lack of employees and
transportation. The Post Office s employees at that time were still subject to the so called spoils
system, where faithful political supporters of the executive branch were appointed to positions in the
post office and other government corporations as a reward for their patronage. These appointees rarely
had prior experience in postal service and mail delivery. This system of political patronage was
replaced in 1883, after passage of the Pendleton Civil Service Reform Act.[19] Ten years before
waterways were declared post roads in 1823, the Post Office used steamboats to carry mail between
post towns where no roads existed.[citation needed] Once it became clear that the postal system in the
United States needed to expand across the entire country, the use of the railroad to transport the mail
was instituted in 1832, on one line in Pennsylvania.[20] All railroads in the United States were
designated as post routes, after passage of the Act of July 7, 1838. Mail service by railroad increased
rapidly thereafter.[21] ~ Benjamin Franklin ~ George Washington ~ The First U.S. Postage Stamps
Issued 1847 The first stamp issues were authorized by an act of Congress and approved on March 3,
1847.[22] The earliest known use of the Franklin 5¢ is July 7, 1847, while the earliest known use of
the Washington 10¢ is July 2, 1847. Remaining in postal

A Christmas Carol Analysis
Chains composed of links forged from sin, sorrow and seclusion are Ebenezer Scrooge s awaiting fate,
unless he can put his pride behind him to gain forgiveness from those he hurt...before it s too late.
Scrooge believes that man s business is to make money, which opposes Dickens teachings, in his book
A Christmas Carol. In A Christmas Carol, Charles Dickens shows that one s business in life is to
commit to charity and helping others, through what Scrooge learns from the Three Spirits lessons. In
stave I, Scrooge thinks man s business is making money, which caused him to be the way he is,
penurious and lonely. In the following piece of evidence, Scrooge gets into an argument with his
nephew. Clearly expressing the fact he very much dislikes Christmas, in this argument, and that it
makes no one any richer, so there should be no point to celebrate; especially for someone who is
apparently as poor as Fred, his nephew. But, Fred believes there is so much more to Christmas. On
page 5, in stave I, Scrooge says to Fred, Whats Christmastime to you but a time for paying bills
without money; a time for finding yourself a year older, and not an hour richer... This evidence is
relevant, because it shows how Scrooge believes that Christmas is unproductive and ineffective. While
Fred believes otherwise, he did not convince his Uncle Scrooge of the true meaning of Christmas, not
in this encounter anyway. Still carrying on the argument, Scrooge tells Fred his honest opinion about
Christmas. From Scrooge to Fred, ...If I could work my will... every idiot who goes about with Merry
Christmas on his lips should be boiled with his own pudding, and buried with a stake of holly through
his heart, stave I, page 6. This evidence is essential, because it unmistakably shows Scrooge s true
hatred for anyone who carries the Christmas spirit in his presence. After all the Spirit s lessons,
Scrooge now believes mankind s businesses is to give to and take care of others, and be happy with
what you ve been given. In the book, after Scrooge wakes up on Christmas morning in the best mood
ever, he runs into the charity workers that asked him to donate to the less fortunate, at the beginning of
the book. Upon seeing him, Scrooge feels guilty

Emily Grierson Isolation
William Faulkner s A Rose for Emily is a complicated and controversial tale that, since its publication

Miss Emily Grierson, whose decrepit demeanor and eccentric behavior make her the town s subject of
scrutiny. After a series of odd events, Miss Emily dies and, upon her death, the townspeople discover
that her seclusion led her to harness the heinous powers of arsenic to murder Homer Barron, the lover

again as some of the ladies [begin] to say that it [is] a disgrace to the town and a bad example to the

marries young, has a family, and behaves like a proper southern woman. Miss Emily is an older
woman who is unmarried, and, during this period of time, engaging in a relationship with a man
deemed unworthy, as well as riding about town with him unaccompanied, is considered taboo. Miss
Emily is never permitted social happiness under the patriarchal system of her small, southern town
and it is her inability to cope with this reality that sends her to insanity. Furthermore, according to
Brooks Jr. and Warren, it is her proud refusal to admit an external [sexist] set of codes, or conventions,
or other wills that contradict her own will, which makes her capable at the end of keeping her lover
from going away (524). Miss Emily does not care that she is setting a poor example for the younger

the insanity that, ultimately, causes her to achieve a relationship in the most grotesque

Summary Of Alumnus Welcome By Shounak Bagchi
In Alumnus Welcomes... Shounak Bagchi, a UC Berkeley alumni addresses the UC Berkeley
freshman Class of 2017 and gives them advice on how to succeed throughout their college years. He
makes them appreciate the handwork they completed to get accepted into the school, but also how to
make the best out of their time while attending UC Berkeley. Alumnus Welcomes... is rhetorically
persuasive because Bagchi was an alumni of the school that he wrote to which gives him credibility,
he used humor to grab the reader s attention and he stated facts about the school, which attracts the
audience s sense of logic. The author was inspired to write this essay because he experienced college
the same way all freshmen will experience college. He went through the same exact struggles that they
are bound to go through at some point in it, so he was motivated to help them survive school and stick
with it no matter how tough it gets. He consistently emphasizes how magnificent the rewards are if
one finishes all of college. One of the reasons this essay is rhetorically persuasive is because of his use
of ethos. Bagchi attended UC Berkeley to study Finance and Public Policy which increases his
credibility because he knows exactly how the freshman class feels and what they are going through.
Consequently, advice from someone who has gone through the exact same thing is a lot easier to take
in. It is hard to tell students how to succeed in school if the adviser did not go through the exact same
thing. For example, if someone tries to give a friend advice on how to deal with a breakup and that
person has never been through one, chances are that it would not be that profitable advice because
they do not know how it feels to go through a heartbreak therefore they cannot relate to them.
Credibility is important when writing an essay, but so is grabbing the readers attention. Bagchi uses
many examples of pathos throughout the essay to appeal to the reader s emotions. For instance, he
incorporates humor by advising the students to ignore the Instagram alerts of kids postponing higher
education to travel (Bagchi, 2017, p. 1). This can bring a smile to the readers face because they
understand exactly how it feels to

Stethoscope Disinfection Paper
Stethoscope is one of the most commonly used medical devices on a clinical setting, the environment
of which is often represented a potential vector for hospital acquired infections. Scholars highlights
that the sterilization of invasive equipments and the disinfection of any kind of devices before the
interventions are generally ignored (Kilic et al., 2011). Among those devices, stethoscope is the widely
used equipment with the most possibility of contamination of transmitted organism. Researchers
emphasize that the increasing proliferation of infection required diligent hygiene of both hands and
instruments between patients to reduce hospital acquired infections (Shaw and Cooper, 2014).
Therefore, a survey is being conducted with a brief nurse directed questionnaire to review perceived
reasons for stethoscope antisepsis non compliance and stethoscope antisepsis compliance. The
purpose of this project is to improve compliance with stethoscope care before and after patient contact

The almost omnipresent Internet transforms our lives, connecting us to family, friends, and the world
in ways inconceivable only a few years ago. Through social media, we actively participate in creating,
editing, and consuming a never ending stream of data. Private corporations and protagonists of
political or social change all vie to reach and engage highly targeted ... Show more content on

As a logical consequence, Postmes and Brunsting (2002) reasoned that the Internet is changing society
because people s cognitive processes, triggered by access to information and communication, replace
the strong social ties that traditionally underpin committed activism. In simpler words, in the past,
humanity used the herd instinct as the main driving force behind committed forms of activism. Thanks
to the Internet, we climb another step or three on the evolutionary ladder, and simply do away with the
herd instinct and replace it with reason. The argument, if put this way, does not sound particularly
strong. What can be taken away is that social media is still evolving, that social media changes the
way we or most of us communicate, that social media is used in social and political activism, and that
the Internet increases quantitative if not qualitative access to information.
The 2011 uprising in Egypt was in many ways a traditional brick and mortar revolution, but with a
cyber twist to it: based on their statistical analysis of a large body of tweets related to the 2011
uprising in Egypt, Starbird and Palen (2012) observed that activists used Twitter as an important tool
to share ideas and information with like minded people, because Twitter allows a high number of
activists interact using its retweet and other mechanisms. In this case, Twitter was used among
participants and supporters of a traditional mass movement to bypass government controlled

Correctional Institutions Case Study Essay
Correctional Institutions have a strict budget. Therefore, implementing new programs is heavily
reliable on how the institutions budget can be relocated to provide funds for the new program. This
paper will analyse the difficulties and challenges one faces when trying to pilot a new program. The
new program is a anger management counseling program that will require $350,000 and two new
counselors. However, the program has shown impressive results in other correctional institutions.
The first hurdle that has to be taken is to convince a senior leadership team to pursue the program,
knowing very well that some of them are sceptical and do not take the program very seriously, since
they think that the program that will lose interest very soon. In order to convince this team one could
show them studies that investigated the results of the program. If this program produced impressive
positive results in other facilities, there would be a couple of studies that supported this conclusion.
One could also evaluate the population of the facility and seeing that it was similar to the populations
that benefitted from the new program, would argue that it is applicable to this specific facility. Further,
one could also look at the recidivism rates of those offenders that completed the program. If the
recidivism decreased it could be argued that this program would help re socialise inmates and prevent
them from returning to the system. The program could also affect the inmate s

Reproductive Rights Argumentative Analysis
Encompassing the specific points and pieces of the reproductive war that I have discussed thus far, I
believe that abortion and the reproductive rights umbrella is indeed a feminist issue. In an era when
reproductive rights are being especially combated, as they are in the present (Murray, 301) feminists
need to be clear and fervent about where we stand and what we are fighting for. Though perhaps a
very controversial opinion, I believe that pro life women are counterproductive to this fight. Jeanne
Mancini, the President of the biggest anti abortion event, the March for Life, claims that she has talked
to an substantial amount of women who have regretted having an abortion. Many of these women
label themselves as pro life feminists and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
How is that honorable? In a lesser, subtler comparison to Mancini and the pro life feminists, that is
like saying that just because I regret getting a tattoo, I believe that no one should be able to get one. In
addition, the phrase pro life is often a misnomer. March for Life labels itself as pro life but to indeed
be pro life, the group in question needs to equally care about all life that is involved in a pregnancy.
This often is not the case, as the unborn child s needs are considered and the mother s are not, or not
as much. Whether it is a man, a woman, or a woman who has labeled herself a pro life feminist, they
take away personal bodily autonomy from women. To imply or outright claim that the rights of an
undeveloped fetus are greater than the rights of a woman to choose what happens in her own body is
absurd, and to assume that a woman is not capable of making an informed decision about her own
body is nothing more than misogyny, no matter who is against it. Therefore, abortion is absolutely a
feminist issue, as I believe it is impossible to simultaneously be a feminist and a fervent anti abortion

Argumentative Essay On Animal Shelter
One in ten dogs born will find a permanent home, therefore what happens to the other nine? The other
nine dogs likely will end up in traditional animal shelters only to succumb to euthanization if not
adopted within a week. A traditional animal shelter must accept, or chooses to accept, any and all
companion animals regardless of health, temperament or space availability, with no limits. (AHeinz57
Pet Rescue) A growing number of people feel that animals should not be exploited by people and that
they should have the same rights as humans.
Stray animals outnumber homeless people five to one. This mainly occurs only because these animals
do not receive the proper security they need. This includes dogs breaking chains, getting out of the

On the other hand if the shelter is not full and if the dog is good and a desirable breed, the execution
date will in return be pushed back, but it will not be for long. Of the 1,000 shelters that replied to the
National Council s survey, 4.3 million animals were handled. In 1997, roughly 64 percent of the total
number of animals that entered shelters were euthanized approximately 2.7 million animals in just
these 1,000 shelters. These animals may have been euthanized due to overcrowding, but may also
have been sick, aggressive, injured or suffering from something else. (americanhumane) Euthanizing
animals in shelters should not be aloud. The precious lives of these animals are lost with no rhyme or
reason. No reason out there can make taking an innocent life away right. These little harmless animals
never did anything to deserve death. They did not hurt anyone. They only die to make room for other
animals and it shall never be the right thing to do. They could find other alternatives to do instead of
killing more helpless animals.
As pet owners it remains our job to keep our pets safe. Allowing animal shelters to kill innocent
adorable animals is wrong. A growing number of people feel that animals should not be exploited by
people and that they should have the same rights as humans. They should not destroy a fragile life
over space. Space is endless, on

Bruce Dawe Satire
Bruce Dawe Research Essay
Examine how satire is used in the poetry of Bruce Dawe to criticise aspects of the society in which he
lives. Illustrate your examination by close reference to at least two of Dawe s poems.
In the words of the Shorter Oxford Dictionary, satire is a poem, or a piece of prose composition, in
which prevailing vices or follies are held up to ridicule or a thing fact or circumstance that has the
effect of making some person or thing ridiculous. Dawe employs a humourous tone enlivened by a
satirical social conscience to encourage readers to become more socially critical. The iconic Australian
poet Bruce Dawe uses Horatian satire to challenge readers to question aspects of the Australian society

Only one persona speaks, considered potentially as a first year university Arts student. His superior
tone and crude language mock the Chinese in the film and his own family. Yet, the narrator s
responses are not parallel to that of Dawe and instilling this third voice encourages an alternative point
of view to the reader. This tone and character construction are established in the beginning; Chinese
peasant families famishing in comfort. The word famishing is considered relatively pretentious to
insinuate that the narrator is equipped with some form of education, contrary to that of the family he is
talking about. The narrator s relaxed humour is shown when he compares the television size to the size
of the Chinese families; 25 inch Chinese peasant families famishing in comfort on the 25 inch screen.
His willingness to display such wit towards a dire situation suggests his inconsideration towards the
Chinese and furthermore, asserts his superiority on them. Dawe uses this tone to make a comment on
the insensitivity of society and bring light to this overconsumption and under reaction. In this way, the
reader is encouraged to become more aware of the lack of apathy that can occur through an overly
consumeristic

Bohemian Rhapsody Rhetorical Devices
Queen s Bohemian Rhapsody , written by lead singer Freddie Mercury, is an elaborate and intriguing
best selling song from 1975. There is much speculation about what this song could be about, but there
is a general understanding that no matter it is about, the song is used to express Mercury s feelings.
Throughout the song, there are various shifts in tone and music style, which are very important in
demonstrating Mercury s emotions toward himself and others. The song is symbolic of Mercury s
emotional struggles, and through various rhetorical strategies he conveys his confused and fragile
emotions to the listeners. The introduction of the song causes the listeners to feel sympathy and
sadness through Mercury s ashamed and melancholy tone. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Like the first section, Mercury uses rhetorical questions, but in this section, they serve a very different
purpose. The rhetorical questions help to emphasize Mercury s anger by taking the form of
accusations: So you think you can stone me and spit in my eye? So you think you can love me and
leave me to die? (Mercury) The music combined with the accusations help to cause the listeners to
feel some of Mercury s anger at those who have hurt him and put him in to his current emotional state.
This section goes on to beg those who hurt him to stop and leave him alone. By repeating a few
words, Just gotta get out, just gotta get right outta here (Mercury) he enforces the idea that he urgently
needs to leave the relationship that is hurting him and causing him all this pain. Overall, the section is
energetic and strong, and through the use of repetition and rhetorical questions, brings the listeners

Paul Von Hindenburg Argument
In the words of Max Weber, This lecture, which I give at your request, will necessarily disappoint you
in a number of ways. I begin here to let the reader know I do not intend on conforming to the regular
hypothesis in the case of Paul Ludwig Hans Anton von Beneckendorff und von Hindenburg, more
commonly known as Paul von Hindenburg. This general hypothesis on his character may paint him as
a villain in the eyes of history, however, I will argue here that he was forced into a situation of
unfortunate circumstances. His case consists of many political and military ups and downs and he is
most famously known for appointing Adolf Hitler to the position of chancellor and therefore plunging
the Nazi party into power. This one choice by Hindenburg was the first domino to fall in the sequence
of events leading to the second world war and ultimately for the death of 50 ... Show more content on

In this essay I will argue for neither option provided by the prompt as I feel the options provided are
not mutually exclusive. I will be arguing that this political leader both shaped democracy as Germany
knew it and that his actions were constrained by the pre existing circumstances. I will argue that the
existing political climate in which Hindenburg was elected to was already on the way to radicalism.
Furthermore, I will also use historical evidence to help prove that his decisions did help to shape
modern Germany. Each choice a leader makes has the potential to shape a world for years to come.
Throughout history we see time and time again one pivotal choice that had a butterfly effect and
created a massive change in the way history occurred. I am arguing that Paul von Hindenburg s
decision to promote Hitler to this position of power, even if reluctantly, was one that has had a major
impact on history as we now know

Monogamy In American Culture
In American culture, relationships, commitment, and sex are synonymous with monogamy. However,
this is not always the case. Monogamy is defined by Merriam Webster as the state or practice of being
married to only one person at a time or of having only one sexual partner during a period of time.
Alternatively, polyamory is defined as the state or practice of having more than one open romantic
relationship at a time.
The word polyamory derives from both Greek (poly) and Latin (amory) roots and can be directly
translated to mean many loves. This is an idea of which popularity has risen a great deal in
mainstream media over the last couple of decades.

monogamous relationships can be arranged. The tendencies to rely on deceit or lies to cover up

Hamlet And Laertes Similarities
The historic play Hamlet by William Shakespeare is the longest play with 4,042 lines and is the
second most filmed story in the world. To develop a deeper understanding of the play, it is important
to observe the similarities of the two characters; Prince Hamlet and Laertes. In the play, they are both
young men whose fathers are murdered due to political conflict. These men have different father and
son relationships but they mourn their father s deaths similarly. Even though they both study abroad
and their beloved Ophelia is home in Denmark, these two scholars still manage to love and protect her.

In spite of the distance, Laertes and Hamlet return and leave Denmark many times throughout the
play. They both love a woman named Ophelia in different ways. Laertes loves Ophelia since it is his

s funeral. Both jump into her grave, declaring their love for Ophelia. As Laertes vows revenge, Hamlet
states he has in him something dangerous, telling Laertes: I loved Ophelia. Forty thousand brothers.
Could not, with all their quantity of love, make up my sum. What wilt thou do for her?. Different in
approach, Hamlet and Laertes yet share similarities in matters of the heart. Both Laertes and Hamlet
want to keep Ophelia safe from the people and customs of where she lives. Laertes takes on the big
brother role and advises Ophelia to keep her virtue safe and stay away from Hamlet because all he is
doing is using her. In Laertes s eyes, Hamlet must marry in order to suit the kingdom, so marrying the
daughter of the king s right hand man would not benefit the kingdom in any way. Therefore he
believes that Hamlet is just trying to take advantage of her. Later, Hamlet purposely acts cruelly
towards Ophelia in order to protect her. He wants her to have no involvement in his plan to kill the
king. Even though she betrayed him, he cannot possibly hate her, the proof is at her funeral. He was
devastated because of her death and even proceeded to throw himself in her grave along with Laertes.

hanging, or bombing their victims. Luckily, these incidents never took place. Melba Beals says that
Governor Orval Faubus announced his refusal to support the integration of our state s schools (1994).
To keep the nine students out of Central High School, he calls in the Arkansas National Guard, which

Theme Of Symbolism In Jane Eyre
Charlotte Bronte created Jane Eyre, a revolutionary novel that since first released in 1847 and ever
since then still remains relevant despite being a classic piece of literature. The novel persistently not
only known for its new ideas, such as a relatable female protagonist, and defying the gender
constraints placed on women during that time period, but for its extensive use of symbolism
throughout the novel. Symbolism occurs when seemingly meaningless words and events lead to a
deeper meaning. The splitting of the chestnut tree happens to symbolize and foreshadow an upcoming
break in Jane and Rochester s relationship, and while their relationship faces hardships, and may never
be the the same, somehow their relationship stays intact. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jane views water to be a distancing from passion and emotion. The character St. John Rivers has been
compared to and placed near water and cold elements many times throughout the novel. The most
prominent being that his name. The first time Jane views him, she says, I have never seen that
handsome face of his look more like chiseled marble as he put aside his snow wet hair from his
forehead. When he is placed by the fire he s described as being gloomy and out of place, when placed
near the fire. Because of Rivers aversion to heat and him being cold, he does not seem suitable nor
compatible for Jane since she is full of warmth and passion and he seems to be out of place when near
the fire. When Jane spoke of how he would be as a husband, she says, He has no more a husbands
heart for me than that frowning giant of a rock, down which the stream is frothing over yonder gorge.
she uses water imagery to express his feelings. Moreover Jane being a very passionate person sees the
absence of passion and emotion to be as bad as death itself.
Charlotte Bronte s use of symbolism helps give the reader an in depth understanding into what the
characters in Jane Eyre are thinking and feeling. As a result the reader connects with the characters on
a deeper level. Charlotte Bronte created a masterpiece in writing this novel. One of the greatest
qualities she imbued into this book happens to be its use of repeated symbolism and themes, which
came together and created one unified

Kareem learned the Sky Hook in college because at the time, the NCAA banned dunking because

How Does Navidson Enter The House Of Leaves
In House of Leaves, by Mark Z. Danielewski he discusses how the inside of the house is some way
bigger than the outside. Once Navidson realizes the interior of the house was greater than the exterior
the first person he decides to call was his brother Tom, who he had not spoken to in eight years, he
decides to call him since he works in building homes he should have an explanation on how this
occurred. I was amused to see that since the discovery of the house is dimension he decided to call his
brother to help him uncover the truth even though they had not spoken in years when he could have
easily called someone else. Due to Navidson reaching out to his brother it brought them to have a
stronger relationship which I was happy to see because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout the book I recognized the character s transition to how the house was built. Navidson
tended to become more brave and willing to take risks, however Karen was frightened through the
whole journey and their marriage was tested. During the book it came across as that the house
symbolizes fear and not knowing what can occur once you turn a corner. For instance, when Navidson
decided to enter the hallway and detects that nothing is there but all of a sudden he turns and there is
another pathway. Overall, the house being highlighted in blue throughout the book could be because it
symbolizes the darkness of not knowing what will occur next, it is like trying to figure out a mystery.
The approach Danielewski took on writing the book by some pages having a few words and the usage
of a mirror, and all the turning comes together like trying to solve a puzzle. Nevertheless, I found this
book to be interesting on the way I had to work my way to the conclusion and the interpretation of the

How Did Texas Fight In The Civil War Dbq
Civil War DBQ The Civil War, a battle between the North and the South. Texans fought in it for the
south. They seceded and had became one of the south states. But, why did Texans fight in the Civil
War? They fought because of states rights, their love of Texas, and slavery. One reason Texans fought
was because of states rights. In document C it says that states have rights to secede or stay in a nation,
such as the Union. This shows that Texas had the right to secede from the Union and Texans wanted to
stay out of it. Northern and Southern states were completely opposite and Texas didn t want to be a
part of a nation with the Northern states. Another reason Texans fought in the Civil War was because
of their love for Texas. In document

The Positive And Negative Aspect Of Their Disorder
When I first saw the title and abstract to the articles required for this class, I read with disbelief the
idea that anorexia nervosa (AN) or bulimia nervosa (BN) can be seen as having positive effects on an
individual. To me, this was a foreign concept and had never crossed my mind. The exploratory studies
required 18 (AN) and 30 (BN) participants who have been diagnosed with AN or BN to write two
letters; one to their disorder as a friend and the other as a foe. From these letters, the researchers
analyzed and coded certain phrases and then divided these into pros and cons. While I believe this
study contains many flaws, it is interesting to see how they can describe both the positive and negative
aspect of their disorder. After reading through the articles, I began to understand the perception of
control and power that these participants may feel. While it may be maladaptive behaviors, as an
individual with a mental disorder, they believe that they are gaining something distinct from their
behavior whether it be the feelings of superiority of succeeding in losing weight where others have
failed or it being the one thing they can control in their life. Another aspect that I think it is important
to discuss, is the descriptors that were used in creating the eating disorder persona for lack of a better
term. The individuals in Dying to Be Thin were described by professionals as harm avoidant ,
perfectionists , and controlled . To me, this indicates a point in

Article Review On Online Gambling Legalization
Article 5 Is Donald Trump key to US online gambling legalisation?
He spent years discussing his presidential aspirations, even once saying that he would fund former
Minnesota Governor and ex professional wrestler Jesse Ventura s campaign should he ever want to run
for the top spot. But now it seems that Donald Trump is backing up the talk by putting his name on the
ballot paper and running for president. While his chances of reaching the White House are slim at
best, it has given the outspoken businessman and TV star a new platform to air his views. The
Republican Party is fighting tooth and nail to stop Trump s momentum but that stats don t lie, he is
certainly working to win over the US public. Trump has been quick to address ... Show more content

This makes the online gambling field a great source of profit for Trump, which is probably why it has
become a hot talking point within not only his campaign but throughout online casino portals around
the world.
It seems great that Trump has made the issue of online gambling legislation so prominent, but it could
possibly prove to be negative in many ways. Trump is a man known for his abrasive and controversial
personality, giving him the reputation of being explosive from a political standpoint. There are some
who believe that by behaving in the way he does that he is actually hindering the chances of online
gambling ever being legalized in the United States. This is because there is every chance that because
of his nature many will oppose simply out of dislike of Trump simply to make a point. It isn t just that
either, Sheldon Adelson, a fellow gambling mogul, but one that opposes online gambling, could look
to ramp up his anti online gambling efforts simply to give Trump more to deal with during his
campaign.
Whichever way you look at situation, Donald Trump could very way play a key role in how the online
casino legalisation story unfolds in the United States. Should his presidential campaign gather real
momentum, whether he makes it into office or not, he will have an increased influence from a political
standpoint moving forward. However, should his campaign truly fall flat, then there is every chance
that objectors will be able to shut down the

Comparing Science And Religion In Cat s Cradle
Live by the harmless untruths that make you brave and kind and healthy and happy (Kurt Vonnegut,
Cat s Cradle). Many people adhere to the idea that because something is true, it must be in a sense
good. Vonnegut often compares and contrasts science and religion in Cat s Cradle. He defines religion
as a form of creating lies, while he defines science as a form of discovering truths. While religion is
negatively depicted in the novel, the most severe criticisms are used for science and the endless
pursuit of truth. The world in Cat s Cradle is quite realistic in the sense that truth, in the form of
discoveries such as the atomic bomb and Ice 9, is used for personal gain with little regard for the
effects of these truths of humanity. The theme I chose for Cat s Cradle is that just ... Show more

In the book Felix Hoenikker creates the atom bomb that was dropped on Japan. He created this in
search of the truth, he did not care about the repercussions of such an invention. Ice 9 was proposed by
a general with no scientific background for an innocent purpose. Felix takes on this challenge and
creates Ice 9, the invention that destroys the world. An invention created for an innocent purpose by a
reckless scientist who did not think of a possible outcome that would destroy the world. Just because
you believe in something, does that make it true? If you get fed lies that you believe, do the lies
become truth, and if so are these lies good? The people of San Lorenzo had terrible, poverty stricken
lives that most people would say were not worth living. Bokononism gave the people a reason to live,
it was an exciting religion that gave them a purpose in life. Bokononism was created by Bokonon for
this purpose, and outlawed by McCabe to make it more interesting for the people of the island so they
adapt it. These are a few questions that could be asked about truth and good and many of the ideas can
relate to present day religious beliefs and technological

Gifted Program Research Paper
Debriefing the interview responses from our county AIG coordinators proved to be enlightening.
There were many points of commonality between their evaluation of our gifted program, and my own
personal evaluation, but there are also points of contradiction. One particular point I agree with is that
a major strength of our gifted program is that our district is diligently working to improve the
program, within our capabilities. We are of course, limited by financial resources and time, of which
our coordinators have little control. In an attempt to be more responsive to the needs of our district,
and more inclusive, in 2016, our district adopted a new identification process for the gifted program
that included three different pathways to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The only way to have an alternate aptitude test administered in DCS is to seek private testing with an
educational psychologist, to the tune of approximately $1,000. This puts a large majority of the
underrepresented at a distinct disadvantage as well. Not to mention, the irony! We are testing so we
know how best to differentiate instruction to meet the individual needs of our students, yet we don t
differentiate the testing? Another weakness stated by our coordinators is lack of teacher training, and it
is also mentioned that we are focusing our professional development as a district, on differentiation.
Yet here we are, giving everyone the same test, even if we know it s not in their best interest. All
students who qualify and are identified are provided services on an Individual Differentiated
Education Plan (DEP). These DEPs are also intended to provide social and emotional support goals
for gifted students, but I don t believe I ve ever seen a single DEP with one of these goals. Overall, our
district continues to make great strides, and genuinely needs to make many more to address the
weaknesses of our AIG program. We have a good amount of resources at our disposal in the county
for our gifted population. The most important resource for any gifted program is personnel, and it is
our biggest resource weakness. Our AIG Specialists are split between schools and pulled in so many
different directions. I feel they could be much

Taking a Look at Racism
Racism has presented itself countless times throughout the history of human existence. It exists in
many forms, and its consequences have proven dire several times. The definition of racism varies
depending on the dictionary, but the common theme throughout all definitions is one of intolerance or
hatred toward a culture. The concept of a culture, however, is a socially constructed concept in order
to classify humans based on their behavior, mannerisms, social ideals, ethnicity, age, faith, skin color,
or other category deemed identifiable. Every single one of the categories created to define a culture
was just that; they were created. On the grounds that culture is a social construct, by the virtue of the
definitions at hand, the hatred of a culture and therefore racism is in fact a social construct. Presented
with the question of What is racism and in what forms does it exist today? it can be answered in a
notably extreme way with a multitude of genocides occurring throughout the world at this very
moment. The very concept of a genocide is one built upon the social construct of racism that has
turned violent. The continent of Africa is most known for the major genocides occurring today, such as
in Darfur, Central African Republic, and many other countries within the continent. Racism at its root
is taking a socially constructed category, deeming it lesser than the category that you put yourself into
and using other socially constructed reasoning to justify actions

Character Analysis Of Dorian Gray And The Picture Of...
Dorian Gray from The Picture of Dorian Gray, and the player from Doki Doki Literature Club are both
the protagonist of their stories and share a similar personality trait The Two Face. The Two Face is a
character that expresses two different sides to their personality one that they keep hidden and the one
that they show to others. Dorian s Two Face personality is the split of his physical body, which does
not age and allows Dorian to do what he wants in his society, and his painting, which changes form to
reflect Dorian s sinful acts; meanwhile the Player s Two Face personality share the same body, that of
the character who is written to forget the strange or unnerving events that happens within the game,
and the person playing the game, who will most likely remember the events for a long time. Both
Dorian and the player get what they want without much refusal from the other character. For instance,
in The Picture of Dorian Gray, Basil, when wanting to paint Dorian s picture without Lord Henry
staying in the room, Dorian begs Basil to let Lord Henry stay, to which Basil agrees, adding Dorian s
whims are laws to everybody, except himself (Wilde, 19). This hints at the early whims of Basil giving
in to and seeing the good side of Dorian, but it is more of Dorian wanting Lord Henry to stay with him
to influence him of his ideology of only liking things for the beauty, not the substance, since Lord
Henry gave him a bit of advice earlier in the confrontation of the three men;

  • 2. The Effects Of Alcoholism On The Native American Population Most people do not end up becoming alcoholics because they are completely satisfied with their life, happy and joyful, and drinking only to celebrate. Yes, it is highly likely that genetics play an important role in the formation of the disease, but a majority of alcoholics drink because they have endured some great trauma. This can either be from trauma from an outside source or emotional turmoil from within. The difference between an alcoholic who drinks because of instances of domestic abuse or clinical depression versus a Native American alcoholic is that the average person s alcoholism is symptomatic of individual experiences. Alcoholism among the native population is encouraged by overwhelming and uncontrollable outside cultural forces. This is all to say that when Louis writes about his recovery from alcoholism and the effects of the disease on the Native American population, he is reaching beyond the surface implications of excessive drink and moving toward the causes and conditions of that substance abuse. Alcoholism is representative of the struggles the people on Pine Ridge Reservation endure because of EuroAmerican oppression. Beer, blood, soil, home writes Louis on page 46. It is all one in the same, representative of a larger trauma that needs to be healed. • 3. The Handmaid s Tale Propaganda The propaganda presented by Gilead is used to create a facade of benevolence and in the hope of masking the reality of their distorted world. The most prominent example being the second news segment which shows a close shot of a prisoner, with a stubbled and dirty face, flanked by two Angels in their neat black uniforms (82). Even within the first image it is clear the rebels are to be thought of as unhygienic whereas the Angels are clean and well put together, representing someone to be proud of. Gilead choses this juxtaposition for two reasons, the first being for viewers to associate a sense of disgust with the prisoners and their lifestyle. The second intention is to further the idea that life within Gilead is much better than the life of the dirty prisoners. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Gilead choses this scene assuming that viewers will see the prisoner s acceptance of the cigarette as a show of submission as if the prisoners are being saved from themselves and their way of life. Furthermore, this displays the Angels as kind and generous due to them treating the prisoner as if he was a child who knew no better. This leaves the viewers believing Gilead must be somewhat good if they treat rebels with sympathy despite the atrocious acts they have committed against their citizens. In conclusion, this news segment gives the viewers a false sense of security within their government. Whereas if Gilead had chose to show Angels assassinating prisoners it would advance the idea that Gilead is inhumane and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The way individuals pursue this happiness varies depending on how the time period has influences them. This zeitgeist feature is especially apparent during the Contemporary era. There are many advancements in the area of technology, causing one to detach from reality. The entertainment industry allows for seriousness to be critiqued. There is a sense of paranoia stirred up by the Cold War. The contemporary era also deals with the idea of fragmentation, which stems into different areas of life. Each of these elements relate to one s pursuit of happiness during the contemporary era, as well as past and future eras. Cinema in the contemporary era symbolizes the area in which it is born because of the high dependence on technology (Kuhns). The film 13 Conversations About One Thing provide visual evidence of this idea the pursuit of happiness and how disconnectedness plays a role in this pursuit. • 10. Khaled Hosseini s The Long-Distance Runner So many people have tried to explain how life should be viewed, yet in my mind no one has gotten in quite right. To me there are only two ways to articulate how we live our own personal lives. These two choices are life as a run, and life as a race; depending on which you choose it can drastically change the way you perceive life as a whole. Each person, as an individual, has their own choice on how they view their personal life; however, they should know the differences between the two. How most people have been raised in today s time, or raised as a millennial, have been told to live their life as a run. Now a run does not have to be a fast pace, it is your own pace. • 11. Why I Want To Pursue A Master Of Science Degree Education is not preparation for life; Education is life for itself. These are the words of John Dewey, which have led an everlasting impression on my mind. It relates to the idea of lifelong learning, and the knowledge that education is much more than what lies within the curriculum. Whenever I pause by to reflect on my ken of knowledge, I feel that how little I have learnt and that an enormous, unknown and fascinating wealth of knowledge lies before me, yet to be explored. Education is like an edifice based on strong rudiments and strengthened by the fundamentals and practical skills acquired during one s lifetime. So my main goal is to design the next generation innovations in field rather than being just a user of existing technologies and findings. So I intend to pursue Master of Science degree in Automotive software Engineering at your university as the first step towards obtaining a PHD. Nothing is Impossible in Life has always been a motivating force behind all my achievements. I strongly believe that enjoy what we do and having the passion to pursue, we can ultimately achieve our destination, no matter how much efforts are needed. My inherent urge and interest to pursue engineering emanates from an instinctive inclination for Physics and Mathematics since my schooling. From early childhood, I was very captivated with electronic appliances around me. I would ask my parents about their principle of working. I always tried to find out what basic elements and ... These pioneers were the first to live in colder climates, hunt large animals with wooden spears, and utilize fire. They were also our first ancestors to construct simple shelters out of wood and rock. Interestingly a comparison between Neanderthal and modern human DNA suggests the two lineages diverged from a common ancestor, most likely Homo heidelbergensis! Discovery On October 21, 1907, Daniel Hartmann spotted a jaw while working in a sandpit in Mauer, near Heidelberg, Germany (49.3389° N, 8.7986° E.) This evidence shows they flourished in a rich and diverse cooling epoch called the Pleistocene, which was a cooling period with intermittent glaciers covering North America and Europe (Eldredge 2000) and deserts spread over northern Africa separating the populations of plants and animals, including humans (Zuk 2013). These cooling and recurrent glaciations led to the physical adaptation of shorter and wider bodies in an attempt to conserve heat in this cooler climate. Dating Many fossils of this species have been dated with various methods. One such was by sequencing mitochondrial DNA from a femur bone found at the Sima de los Huesos ( pit of bones ) in northern Spain by Svante Paabo, a biologist at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology. After sequencing, researchers compared the result with genetic information from Neanderthals and Denisovans and dated them to over 300,000 years (Meyer 2013). Description The first preserved bones for this species was a lower jaw with teeth, found near Heidelberg, Germany. Other fossils include 5,500 bone fragments from 28 individuals found in The Pit of Bones , Spain, and possibly a fossilized skullcap discovered in northern India s Narmada Valley that currently represents the easternmost occurrence (Meyer 2013). What is marijuana? Marijuana, a plant, known as Cannabis Sativa, labeled that by Carolus Linnaeus in 1753 (Grinspoon 1), is one of nature s hardiest specimens (Abel ix). Sinsemilla, a seedless version of marijuana, that has been cultivated in recent years, has much higher concentrations of THC throughout the plant (Abel 5). The amount of THC that is present depends on the conditions the plant is raised in (Gold 261). Cannabis that is grown in temperate climates contains little delta 9 THC and a high concentration of cannabidiol. Cannabis grown in hot climates has a greater delta 9 THC concentration and barely any cannabidiol. It is these plants that are grown in the hotter climates that are cultivated for their psychoactive effects. Marijuana contains almost 30% THC; however, 50% of that is destroyed when it is burned, such as when it is smoked (Gold261). The smallest amount of THC that produces a high is 5 mg, but since 50% is destroyed, it is really 2.5 mg (Gold 262). It facilitated expansion into the West by creating an inexpensive, fast, convenient communication system. Letters from early settlers provided information and boosterism to encourage increased migration to the West, helped scattered families stay in touch and provide assistance, assisted entrepreneurs in finding business opportunities, and made possible regular commercial relationships between merchants in the west and wholesalers and factories back east. As the Post Office expanded, difficulties were experienced due to a lack of employees and transportation. The Post Office s employees at that time were still subject to the so called spoils system, where faithful political supporters of the executive branch were appointed to positions in the post office and other government corporations as a reward for their patronage. These appointees rarely had prior experience in postal service and mail delivery. This system of political patronage was replaced in 1883, after passage of the Pendleton Civil Service Reform Act.[19] Ten years before waterways were declared post roads in 1823, the Post Office used steamboats to carry mail between post towns where no roads existed.[citation needed] Once it became clear that the postal system in the United States needed to expand across the entire country, the use of the railroad to transport the mail was instituted in 1832, on one line in Pennsylvania.[20] All railroads in the United States were designated as post routes, after passage of the Act of July 7, 1838. • 17. A Christmas Carol Analysis Chains composed of links forged from sin, sorrow and seclusion are Ebenezer Scrooge s awaiting fate, unless he can put his pride behind him to gain forgiveness from those he hurt...before it s too late. Scrooge believes that man s business is to make money, which opposes Dickens teachings, in his book A Christmas Carol. In A Christmas Carol, Charles Dickens shows that one s business in life is to commit to charity and helping others, through what Scrooge learns from the Three Spirits lessons. In stave I, Scrooge thinks man s business is making money, which caused him to be the way he is, penurious and lonely. In the following piece of evidence, Scrooge gets into an argument with his nephew. Clearly expressing the fact he very much dislikes Christmas, in this argument, and that it makes no one any richer, so there should be no point to celebrate; especially for someone who is apparently as poor as Fred, his nephew. But, Fred believes there is so much more to Christmas. On page 5, in stave I, Scrooge says to Fred, Whats Christmastime to you but a time for paying bills without money; a time for finding yourself a year older, and not an hour richer... This evidence is relevant, because it shows how Scrooge believes that Christmas is unproductive and ineffective. While Fred believes otherwise, he did not convince his Uncle Scrooge of the true meaning of Christmas, not in this encounter anyway. Still carrying on the argument, Scrooge tells Fred his honest opinion about Christmas. From Scrooge to Fred, ...If I could work my will... every idiot who goes about with Merry Christmas on his lips should be boiled with his own pudding, and buried with a stake of holly through his heart, stave I, page 6. • 20. Emily Grierson Isolation William Faulkner s A Rose for Emily is a complicated and controversial tale that, since its publication in 1930, challenges social norms. The story is about the unfortunate life of an aristocratic woman, Miss Emily Grierson, whose decrepit demeanor and eccentric behavior make her the town s subject of scrutiny. After a series of odd events, Miss Emily dies and, upon her death, the townspeople discover that her seclusion led her to harness the heinous powers of arsenic to murder Homer Barron, the lover that attempted to desert her. She is raised knowing that a woman does not take a lover, instead she marries young, has a family, and behaves like a proper southern woman. Miss Emily is an older woman who is unmarried, and, during this period of time, engaging in a relationship with a man deemed unworthy, as well as riding about town with him unaccompanied, is considered taboo. Miss Emily is never permitted social happiness under the patriarchal system of her small, southern town and it is her inability to cope with this reality that sends her to insanity. Furthermore, according to Brooks Jr. and Warren, it is her proud refusal to admit an external [sexist] set of codes, or conventions, or other wills that contradict her own will, which makes her capable at the end of keeping her lover from going away (524). • 21. Summary Of Alumnus Welcome By Shounak Bagchi In Alumnus Welcomes... Shounak Bagchi, a UC Berkeley alumni addresses the UC Berkeley freshman Class of 2017 and gives them advice on how to succeed throughout their college years. He makes them appreciate the handwork they completed to get accepted into the school, but also how to make the best out of their time while attending UC Berkeley. Alumnus Welcomes... is rhetorically persuasive because Bagchi was an alumni of the school that he wrote to which gives him credibility, he used humor to grab the reader s attention and he stated facts about the school, which attracts the audience s sense of logic. The author was inspired to write this essay because he experienced college the same way all freshmen will experience college. He went through the same exact struggles that they are bound to go through at some point in it, so he was motivated to help them survive school and stick with it no matter how tough it gets. He consistently emphasizes how magnificent the rewards are if one finishes all of college. One of the reasons this essay is rhetorically persuasive is because of his use of ethos. Bagchi attended UC Berkeley to study Finance and Public Policy which increases his credibility because he knows exactly how the freshman class feels and what they are going through. Consequently, advice from someone who has gone through the exact same thing is a lot easier to take in. It is hard to tell students how to succeed in school if the adviser did not go through the exact same thing. For example, if someone tries to give a friend advice on how to deal with a breakup and that person has never been through one, chances are that it would not be that profitable advice because they do not know how it feels to go through a heartbreak therefore they cannot relate to them. Credibility is important when writing an essay, but so is grabbing the readers attention. Bagchi uses many examples of pathos throughout the essay to appeal to the reader s emotions. For instance, he incorporates humor by advising the students to ignore the Instagram alerts of kids postponing higher education to travel (Bagchi, 2017, p. 1). This can bring a smile to the readers face because they understand exactly how it feels to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Scholars highlights that the sterilization of invasive equipments and the disinfection of any kind of devices before the interventions are generally ignored (Kilic et al., 2011). Among those devices, stethoscope is the widely used equipment with the most possibility of contamination of transmitted organism. As a logical consequence, Postmes and Brunsting (2002) reasoned that the Internet is changing society because people s cognitive processes, triggered by access to information and communication, replace the strong social ties that traditionally underpin committed activism. In simpler words, in the past, humanity used the herd instinct as the main driving force behind committed forms of activism. Thanks to the Internet, we climb another step or three on the evolutionary ladder, and simply do away with the herd instinct and replace it with reason. The argument, if put this way, does not sound particularly strong. What can be taken away is that social media is still evolving, that social media changes the way we or most of us communicate, that social media is used in social and political activism, and that the Internet increases quantitative if not qualitative access to information. The 2011 uprising in Egypt was in many ways a traditional brick and mortar revolution, but with a cyber twist to it: based on their statistical analysis of a large body of tweets related to the 2011 uprising in Egypt, Starbird and Palen (2012) observed that activists used Twitter as an important tool to share ideas and information with like minded people, because Twitter allows a high number of activists interact using its retweet and other mechanisms. This paper will analyse the difficulties and challenges one faces when trying to pilot a new program. The new program is a anger management counseling program that will require $350,000 and two new counselors. However, the program has shown impressive results in other correctional institutions. The first hurdle that has to be taken is to convince a senior leadership team to pursue the program, knowing very well that some of them are sceptical and do not take the program very seriously, since they think that the program that will lose interest very soon. In order to convince this team one could show them studies that investigated the results of the program. If this program produced impressive positive results in other facilities, there would be a couple of studies that supported this conclusion. One could also evaluate the population of the facility and seeing that it was similar to the populations that benefitted from the new program, would argue that it is applicable to this specific facility. Further, one could also look at the recidivism rates of those offenders that completed the program. If the recidivism decreased it could be argued that this program would help re socialise inmates and prevent them from returning to the system. The program could also affect the inmate s ... Reproductive Rights Argumentative Analysis Encompassing the specific points and pieces of the reproductive war that I have discussed thus far, I believe that abortion and the reproductive rights umbrella is indeed a feminist issue. In an era when reproductive rights are being especially combated, as they are in the present (Murray, 301) feminists need to be clear and fervent about where we stand and what we are fighting for. Though perhaps a very controversial opinion, I believe that pro life women are counterproductive to this fight. Jeanne Mancini, the President of the biggest anti abortion event, the March for Life, claims that she has talked to an substantial amount of women who have regretted having an abortion. Many of these women label themselves as pro life feminists and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... How is that honorable? In a lesser, subtler comparison to Mancini and the pro life feminists, that is like saying that just because I regret getting a tattoo, I believe that no one should be able to get one. In addition, the phrase pro life is often a misnomer. March for Life labels itself as pro life but to indeed be pro life, the group in question needs to equally care about all life that is involved in a pregnancy. This often is not the case, as the unborn child s needs are considered and the mother s are not, or not as much. Whether it is a man, a woman, or a woman who has labeled herself a pro life feminist, they take away personal bodily autonomy from women. To imply or outright claim that the rights of an undeveloped fetus are greater than the rights of a woman to choose what happens in her own body is absurd, and to assume that a woman is not capable of making an informed decision about her own body is nothing more than misogyny, no matter who is against it. In the American heritage and main structure of government, it says that all men are created equal. This paper will tell of the Little Rock Nine and their struggle, and how it has changed America for the better. The Little Rock Nine started out as nine students just signing up for a school. On the first day that the nine students were supposed to go into school, the mobs chased them back home. They threatened to kill them in any way that seemed most satisfying. Their favorites consisted of hanging, or bombing their victims. Luckily, these incidents never took place. Melba Beals says that Governor Orval Faubus announced his refusal to support the integration of our state s schools (1994). To keep the nine students out of Central High School, he calls in the Arkansas National Guard, which is commanded by the State of Arkansas. Just imagine you re going to school and upon arrival you see soldiers with guns trying to keep you out. One would not want to be anywhere near that school. On the first day that Melba Patillo Beals went to school, she thought it was a nightmare. There was a huge mob outside Central High School, along with the Arkansas National Guard soldiers keeping them out. The image of Elizabeth Eckford really shows how it was. White people were surrounding them, cursing at them, of course saying the word nigger , and occasionally striking them (1994). It was so bad that Melba had to take the keys to their car from her mother and run away to escape. Imagine the sight of Melbas mother screaming at her Melba, take the keys. Get to the car. ... • 39. Theme Of Symbolism In Jane Eyre Charlotte Bronte created Jane Eyre, a revolutionary novel that since first released in 1847 and ever since then still remains relevant despite being a classic piece of literature. The novel persistently not only known for its new ideas, such as a relatable female protagonist, and defying the gender constraints placed on women during that time period, but for its extensive use of symbolism throughout the novel. Symbolism occurs when seemingly meaningless words and events lead to a deeper meaning. The splitting of the chestnut tree happens to symbolize and foreshadow an upcoming break in Jane and Rochester s relationship, and while their relationship faces hardships, and may never be the the same, somehow their relationship stays intact. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Jane views water to be a distancing from passion and emotion. The character St. John Rivers has been compared to and placed near water and cold elements many times throughout the novel. The most prominent being that his name. The first time Jane views him, she says, I have never seen that handsome face of his look more like chiseled marble as he put aside his snow wet hair from his forehead. When he is placed by the fire he s described as being gloomy and out of place, when placed near the fire. Because of Rivers aversion to heat and him being cold, he does not seem suitable nor compatible for Jane since she is full of warmth and passion and he seems to be out of place when near the fire. When Jane spoke of how he would be as a husband, she says, He has no more a husbands heart for me than that frowning giant of a rock, down which the stream is frothing over yonder gorge. she uses water imagery to express his feelings. Moreover Jane being a very passionate person sees the absence of passion and emotion to be as bad as death itself. Charlotte Bronte s use of symbolism helps give the reader an in depth understanding into what the characters in Jane Eyre are thinking and feeling. As a result the reader connects with the characters on a deeper level. Charlotte Bronte created a masterpiece in writing this novel. One of the greatest qualities she imbued into this book happens to be its use of repeated symbolism and themes, which came together and created one unified ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The reason being, I was diagnosed at the age of 7 with Type 1 Diabetes. I was tossing around the thought that I was interested, possibly, in having a career that involved my disease in it. From being a part of this compass program, I have learned about many careers. Even though I learned more of what I do not want to do, it has helped me narrow down to majors that I am more interested in. I was thinking of still having the possibility of entering the medical field, but I am unsure. Learning about the different careers in the medical field and visiting labs has shown me that it isn t something that I am interested as much as when I first enter college. While I do want to be involved with my disease, I m not sure if I want to have a career with it, but it could still be a possibility. After having been in my first college year for a couple of months, I still had no idea what I was leaning towards for a major. Within these first couple of months I had learned that Biomedical Studies was not something that I was sure of, along with many other careers and majors that I learned about in the Compass class that were not for me. Over his 20 year career, Kareem Abdul Jabbar scored 38,387 points which is about 2,000 points more than the person behind Kareem, Karl Malone. Kareem accomplished this by his great offensive ability in the mid range and in the paint. Kareem learned the Sky Hook in college because at the time, the NCAA banned dunking because there were too many taller dominate players at that time and they tried to reduce the dominance. This didn t phase Kareem however and he just developed a new move that only made him more dominate. To me, The Sky Hook represents years of hardwork and dedication paying off in the end. Great Teammates. When Kareem was with the Milwaukee Bucks, he got the chance to play with Oscar Robertson who was another hall of famer that greatly assisted him. Once Navidson realizes the interior of the house was greater than the exterior the first person he decides to call was his brother Tom, who he had not spoken to in eight years, he decides to call him since he works in building homes he should have an explanation on how this occurred. For instance, when Navidson decided to enter the hallway and detects that nothing is there but all of a sudden he turns and there is another pathway. Overall, the house being highlighted in blue throughout the book could be because it symbolizes the darkness of not knowing what will occur next, it is like trying to figure out a mystery. The approach Danielewski took on writing the book by some pages having a few words and the usage of a mirror, and all the turning comes together like trying to solve a puzzle. The Positive And Negative Aspect Of Their Disorder When I first saw the title and abstract to the articles required for this class, I read with disbelief the idea that anorexia nervosa (AN) or bulimia nervosa (BN) can be seen as having positive effects on an individual. To me, this was a foreign concept and had never crossed my mind. The exploratory studies required 18 (AN) and 30 (BN) participants who have been diagnosed with AN or BN to write two letters; one to their disorder as a friend and the other as a foe. From these letters, the researchers analyzed and coded certain phrases and then divided these into pros and cons. While I believe this study contains many flaws, it is interesting to see how they can describe both the positive and negative aspect of their disorder. After reading through the articles, I began to understand the perception of control and power that these participants may feel. While it may be maladaptive behaviors, as an individual with a mental disorder, they believe that they are gaining something distinct from their behavior whether it be the feelings of superiority of succeeding in losing weight where others have failed or it being the one thing they can control in their life. Another aspect that I think it is important to discuss, is the descriptors that were used in creating the eating disorder persona for lack of a better term. It seems great that Trump has made the issue of online gambling legislation so prominent, but it could possibly prove to be negative in many ways. Trump is a man known for his abrasive and controversial personality, giving him the reputation of being explosive from a political standpoint. There are some who believe that by behaving in the way he does that he is actually hindering the chances of online gambling ever being legalized in the United States. This is because there is every chance that because of his nature many will oppose simply out of dislike of Trump simply to make a point. It isn t just that either, Sheldon Adelson, a fellow gambling mogul, but one that opposes online gambling, could look to ramp up his anti online gambling efforts simply to give Trump more to deal with during his campaign. Many people adhere to the idea that because something is true, it must be in a sense good. Vonnegut often compares and contrasts science and religion in Cat s Cradle. He defines religion as a form of creating lies, while he defines science as a form of discovering truths. While religion is negatively depicted in the novel, the most severe criticisms are used for science and the endless pursuit of truth. The world in Cat s Cradle is quite realistic in the sense that truth, in the form of discoveries such as the atomic bomb and Ice 9, is used for personal gain with little regard for the effects of these truths of humanity. There were many points of commonality between their evaluation of our gifted program, and my own personal evaluation, but there are also points of contradiction. One particular point I agree with is that a major strength of our gifted program is that our district is diligently working to improve the program, within our capabilities. We are of course, limited by financial resources and time, of which our coordinators have little control. • 50. Taking a Look at Racism Racism has presented itself countless times throughout the history of human existence. It exists in many forms, and its consequences have proven dire several times. The definition of racism varies depending on the dictionary, but the common theme throughout all definitions is one of intolerance or hatred toward a culture. The concept of a culture, however, is a socially constructed concept in order to classify humans based on their behavior, mannerisms, social ideals, ethnicity, age, faith, skin color, or other category deemed identifiable. Every single one of the categories created to define a culture was just that; they were created. On the grounds that culture is a social construct, by the virtue of the definitions at hand, the hatred of a culture and therefore racism is in fact a social construct. Presented with the question of What is racism and in what forms does it exist today? it can be answered in a notably extreme way with a multitude of genocides occurring throughout the world at this very moment. The very concept of a genocide is one built upon the social construct of racism that has turned violent. The continent of Africa is most known for the major genocides occurring today, such as in Darfur, Central African Republic, and many other countries within the continent. Dorian Gray from The Picture of Dorian Gray, and the player from Doki Doki Literature Club are both the protagonist of their stories and share a similar personality trait The Two Face. The Two Face is a character that expresses two different sides to their personality one that they keep hidden and the one that they show to others. Dorian s Two Face personality is the split of his physical body, which does not age and allows Dorian to do what he wants in his society, and his painting, which changes form to reflect Dorian s sinful acts; meanwhile the Player s Two Face personality share the same body, that of the character who is written to forget the strange or unnerving events that happens within the game, and the person playing the game, who will most likely remember the events for a long time. Both Dorian and the player get what they want without much refusal from the other character. For instance, in The Picture of Dorian Gray, Basil, when wanting to paint Dorian s picture without Lord Henry staying in the room, Dorian begs Basil to let Lord Henry stay, to which Basil agrees, adding Dorian s whims are laws to everybody, except himself (Wilde, 19). This hints at the early whims of Basil giving in to and seeing the good side of Dorian, but it is more of Dorian wanting Lord Henry to stay with him to influence him of his ideology of only liking things for the beauty, not the substance, since Lord Henry gave him a bit of advice earlier in the confrontation of the three men; ...
