The Study Of The Theory Of International Relations
The study of international relations takes a vast spectrum of theoretical approaches. A theory of
international relations is a collection of concepts that delineate how the international system
operates (SparkNote on International Politics, 2010). Contrary to an ideology, a theory of
international studies is endorsed with solid evidence. This essay will focus on two dominant
theories of International Relations(IR), namely realism and liberalismto decide for this matter on the
more pragmatic one for the study of IR. According to realism, states work only to gain more power
relative to that of other states (Donelan: 1990:23). Liberalism matured in the 1970s as some
scholars generated arguments that realism was defunct. With the rise of globalization, the
immediate increase in communications technology, and the expansion of international trade meant
that states could no longer be dependent on complete power politics to resolve matters (Lawson,
2015:96).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Liberalism is contrary to realism, in a sense that it places confidence in the amount of power
through state economies, the prospects of peace and cooperation, rights and notions of political
freedoms (Burchill et al, 2005: 80). This essay delineates the reasons why liberal theory would be
the suitable theory for the study of IR, the position of the theory today and lastly the three variants

William Shakespeare s Three Sets Nature And The...
The Sublime in Three Sets Nature and the Romantics are two sides of the same coin. In almost
every single poem we have read over the course of this semester we have been able to find hints
of the natural world. These instances were moments of hunger. While industrialization was tearing
landscapes up by their roots, Romantic poets were desperate to experience the euphoric sense of
sublimity they had come to associate with the highest level of consciousness. However, this sense
of sublimity is not a constant achievable state. For each poet the definition is different, and time
was altering the facets of this theory. This paper will look critically at two poets and one essayist in
an attempt to study the changing face of sublimity. For... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These pastoral farms, / Green to the very door; and wreaths of smoke / Sent up, in silence, from
among the trees! (17 19). The landscape is lush, green, and welcoming with mention to wreaths .
Smoke symbolizes warmth within these homes, as well. The reference to the word pastoral is
connotative with rural countryside based imagery. There is also a sense of innocence about this
landscape. Something the speaker is looking in on with feelings of elation. Wordsworth definition
of the word sublime is one of positivity, which is shown in the following quotation. ...felt along the
heart; / And passing even into my purer mind / With tranquil restoration: feelings too / Of
unremembered pleasure: (29 32). Wordsworth is giving us what is happening internally to our
speaker. He is lulled by this picturesque countryside into complete tranquility and peace. He is even
allowed the wonderful feeling of pleasure. For Wordsworth, the sublime is synonymous with
pleasure of the purest form. Other language that supports this claim are words such as beauteous
joy and dizzy rapture to describe the experience of looking down upon Tintern Abbey s splendor.
Further within the reading we find that the sublime is often tantamount to mystery and a deep sense
of the unknown. However, this mystery to Wordsworth is not a haunting one. The following
quotation expands on this characteristic of the sublime. Of aspect more sublime; that blessed

* Leapfrog strategy This strategy involves bypassing the enemy s forces altogether. In the business
arena, this involves either developing new technologies, or creating new business models. This is a
revolutionary strategy that re writes the rules of the game. The introduction of compact disc
technology bypassed the established magnetic tape based defenders. The attackers won the war
without a single costly battle. This strategy is very effective when it can be realized.
Defensive marketing warfare strategies They are a type of marketing warfare strategy designed to
protect a company s market share, profitability, product positioning, or mind share. Fundamental
principles: 1. Always counter an attack with equal or greater force. 2. Defend every important
market. 3. Be forever vigilant in scanning for potential attackers. Assess the strength of the
competitor. 4. The best defense is to attack yourself. Attack your weak spots and rebuild yourself
anew. 5. Defensive strategies should be the exclusive domain of the market leader
The main types of defensive marketing warfare strategies are: * Position defense This involves
the defense of a fortified position. This tends to be a weak defense because you become a sitting
duck . It can lead to a siege situation in which time is on the side of the attacker, that is, as time
goes by the defender gets weaker, while the attacker gets stronger. In a business context, this

The Play Of The Diary Of Anne Frank Analysis
Hiding in the holocaust was a horrible thing. If you had too, do you think you would survive?
Although it was horrific, one Jewish girl, Anne Frank said, In spite of everything, I still believe
people are really good at heart. Anne never lost hope. She never just looked at the negative in all
things. She thought that if someone was bad they could always change, and she was right. After
reading The Play of the Diary of Anne FrankI have come to the conclusion that I agree with Anne s
quote. The biggest reason I agree with Anne s quote is what Peter did. Even though I think this,
there are some people who do not agree with this quote. I think some people would disagree
because of what selfish thing Mr. Van Daan did with his wife s coat for himself.
There were a lot of other things in The Play of the Diary of Anne Frank, but there was one that
got me convended right when I saw. It was a big act of kindness coming from Peter. On page 114
115 this dialogue happened:
Anne: This isn t true. You re much better than I am in dozens of things arithmetic and algebra and
... Well, you re a million time better than I am in algebra. (With sudden directness.) You like
Margot, don t you? Right from the start you likes her, liked her much better than me.
Peter: (uncomfortably) Oh, I don t know.
Anne: It s all right. Everyone feels that way. Margot s so good. She s sweet and bright and
beautiful, and I m not.
Peter: I wouldn t say that.
Anne: Oh, no, I m not. I know that. I know quite well

Problems Associated With The Researcher
concerns (Todres, 2007). Todres (2007) and McCormick (2010) suggest the researcher can
remedy this by staying in connection with his or her own felt sense . On the other hand, words
can work between the researcher and the participant in a shared way. Just as words are a bodily
experience for the participant, they are for the researcher as well. When words work for the
participant, they also work for the researcher not only in deepening the researcher s
understanding, but in becoming aware of the lived sense of his or her situation (Todres, 2007).
In embodied inquiry, the researcher s task is to be open to the process in him or herself in which
the words do not just make logical sense, but which open up the possibility of seeing something
together (Todres, 2007, p. 39), a sense the researcher understands in an embodied way. Embodied
understanding does not mean that the researcher has the same experience, but it means that the
words show the researcher something more that involves a bodily sense of being present to the
whole situation (Todres, 2007, p. 39). Another dimension of inter embodied understanding is that
it seems to help the participant s ongoing ability to bring his or her sense to language. New
meanings can be experienced as making sense by the participant and the researcher. There are
possibly new meanings to be expressed from a situation and the process of sense making allows
these new meanings to appear. According to Todres (2007), languaging

Theme Of Never Judge A Book By Its Cover
Have you ever heard about the saying, Never judge a book by it s cover ? This theme is similar
except the characters slowly reveal their true nature that no one ever even knew. In this chapter, I
will talk about the theme, which is No one is exactly who they seem to be , and how it affects
three characters Persis Blake, Justen Helo, and Vania Aldred. They each have their own secrets
that they hide from the world, and sometimes, even themselves. First of all, there is Vania Aldred.
She begins the book as a close sister to Justen Helo, but then over time, she turns into a ruthless,
cruel person, who doesn t hesitate to hurt her own, close adopted sibling. He {Justen} grabbed at

Persis Blake is under the great burden of her mother, Heloise, and the fact that she is
succumbing to the Darkening. It is essential that this secret never leaks, for her parents are the
base of a love story that gives hope and light to the dark world they are forced to live in. And she,
alone, has to deal with the fact that one day, she will die from this horrible disease. This can be
seen when Justen Helo analyzed Persis Helo on page 187, A silly, spoiled aristo who was
keeping the secret of her mother s illness from those in her society who might use this knowledge
as a weapon. A flighty, shallow young woman who steadfastly filled the weighted silence at her
family dinners with meaningless chatter about fashion and court scandals. An ignorant girl who
was so terrified that she might die from an inheritable disease that she took genetemps and sailed
yachts and drove skimmers like a maniac and threw herself off of cliffs for fun. (Peterfreund).

Data Security Case Study
The Compromising of Data Security Due to Corporate Consolidation The United States has held
serious tension with monopolies and overarching, powerful companies since before the Boston Tea
Party. They are some of the most illicit phenomena known to Americans, which has led to its
governmental regulation. Nevertheless, Americans have found a near enough equivalent:
oligopolies; the formation of very few, large companies dominating their respective sectors through
what is recognized as the concept of corporate consolidation . This process involves eliminating the
competition by essentially purchasing it, maintaining only a few potent, growing, businesses in the
market (Wu). Found in any type of industry, the pairing of the power these... Show more content on

Moreover, there are laws and organizations that are designed to try and defend the consumer in
instances involving large corporations such as the F.T.C, which initiated an investigation but could
not heavily fine the institution because it was a first offense, and the C.F.P.B, that could not
undergo prosecution of Equifax because of their sole focus on the quality and/or deceit of
products being sold in the market. Even if regulators could open up a case for Equifax, executives
would find a way to evade the situation by convincing the court that the case needs to be tried as
individuals and not as a whole enterprise(Henning). The implementing of organizations like these is
supposed to ensure the safety of the consumer, but evidently, that s a goal that is currently not being
fulfilled (Sotto and Logan). Incidents like the Equifax security breach is just one of many that
demonstrate that the administration holds an insufficient amount of power to successfully regulate
the way that members of oligopolies handle their customers personal information. Even more
concerning is the way in which Equifax managed said infringement. The prolonged time that the
corporation took to notify its customers of the illegal data access refrained them from performing

Traditional Western and Disney Ideals as Seen in Mulan Essay
Traditional Western and Disney Ideals as Seen in Mulan
Fairy tales have been a long tradition in almost all cultures, starting as oral traditions to and
gradually evolving into written texts intended for future generations to enjoy. Today, a common
medium for relaying these ancient stories is through animation. The Walt Disney Companyis
probably the most well known for its animated portrayals of many classic fairy tales. These fairy
tales are considered, by fairy tale researcher Justyna Deszcz to be cultural institutions, which exist
within an institutional framework of production, distribution, and reception, as well as fulfilling
specific social functions, such as the preservation of the cultural heritage of a given country. The ...

It is only at this time that the rest of the army discovers that she is a woman. The ballad ends at
this point, but research has been done on the historical Hua Mulan, showing that this ballad does
not give a full and accurate account of the warrior. First, Hua Mulan s family name was not, in
fact, Hua, but rather Wei. Second and more importantly, is Mulan s life after her return home.
Once the Sui Emperor, Yang Di, heard about this woman warrior, he was greatly impressed and
asked her to come live at his palace and serve as one of his concubines. However, the woman
refused and committed suicide instead. Since this matter was bad for the emperor s reputation, no
one dared eulogize Mulan in writing...and her exploits were only recorded among the populace in
the form of a folk song [ Ode to Mulan ] (Song, 33).
The Walt DisneyCompany had two target audiences for its animated version of this Chinese folk
tale. Along with its primary audience, the United States, Disney was also looking to appeal to its
Chinese consumers. There were two main reasons for the company s newfound interest in China.
First, Disney was responsible for distributing the movie Kundun in 1997, which told the story of
the Dalai Lama. However, the Chinese government was not pleased with the portrayal because it
felt that the movie was critical of its rule over Tibet and banned the movie from being shown in
China (Kuhn). Also, Mulan

Technology And The Interrupted Brain Seeks Out A Professional
Pat Galagan, author of Technology and The Interrupted Brain seeks out a professional to explain
this. Dan Willingham, professor of Psychology at the University of Virginia states, Data from the
last thirty years leads to a conclusion that is not scientifically challengeable: thinking well requires
knowing facts, and that s true not only because you need something to think about. The very
processes that teachers care about most critical thinking processes such as reasoning and problem
solving are intimately intertwined with factual knowledge that is stored in long term memory (not
just found in the environment) (Galagan). This generation of adolescents is so used to looking up
everything in the internetthat their brains don t go the extra mile to think and develop. Therefore,
they don t possess the amount of factual knowledge needed to mold higher level thinking and
analysis.
Take a look at this study done by researchers at the University of Connecticut in 2005. A group of
seventh graders were asked to read information on a website on the Pacific Northwest Tree
Octopus and evaluate the site s credibility and trustworthiness. All but one student deemed the site
to be credible due to extensive cited sources, pictures, and a wide array of scientific words. The
truth? The site was a hoax designed just for this experiment (Galagan). One might ask, why weren t
most of the students able to recognize this? That s because these students didn t have a basic
knowledge and

Analyse the Factors That Causes Differences in the Hazards...
Analyse the factors that causes differences in the hazards posed by volcanoes around the world (40
marks)
A hazard can be define as something which poses a level of threat the life, health, property or
environment, a volcano can compromise all these things through the many hazards volcanoes
presents. Such as lahars, flash flooding, landslides, pyroclastic flows, ash clouds and many others.
There are factors which can influence the severity of the hazard and cause differences in them and
can be classified into different categories, such as physical, economic, political and social.
One physical factor which causes differences in a volcanic hazard is the steepness of the volcano. If
the volcanoes sides are of a steep gradient then the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another physical factor is snow; if a volcano is snow capped, like Eyjafjallajokull, then the
lahars and flash floods become a greater hazard. The flooding in Iceland in 2010 caused 700
people to be evacuated. Without the snow then lahars and floods may not be a problem at all.
The location of the volcano is also important. If it is situated on a constructive plate boundary
then it is generally less explosive, and therefore poses different threats to volcanoes situated on a
destructive plate boundary. The volcano may also be situated on a hotspot like in Hawaii, where
the eruptions aren t very explosive. Volcanos which aren t explosive can pose other threats to lava
flows though, such as dangerous gases being released. Like in Lake Nyos, Cameroon where 1700
people died.
Wind direction could also cause difference in the hazards, like during the Eyjafjallajokull eruption
of 2010. If the wind was blowing in a different direction then the ash cloud wouldn t have been
distributed across the Atlantic and Europe, meaning that there would have been a lot less air travel
disruption. Then the ash cloud wouldn t have been a hazard as it wouldn t pose a threat to anyone.
Ultimately physical factors determine which hazards are posed by the volcano and how intensive
and threatening they are to human life. However they are not the sole factors that causes
differences in hazards posed by volcanos.
Settlement is a huge human

The Texas Rangers (53 53) will go for the sweep this afternoon against the AL West leading
Houston Astros (60 48) at Globe Life Park in Arlington. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm
from Arlington, Texas. The Rangers will hand the ball to Nick Martinez (6 6, 4.01 ERA) as he
will look to put together another nice performance after his last time out against the Giants. The
Rangers will need a strong performance from Martinez, because the Houston Astros will turn to

Pick to Click
No Ranger in tonight s lineup has had any success off of Kazmier so I m going to have to go on
a limb. Prince Fielder has been the best Rangers hitter all year and he is my pick to click tonight.
Fielder is 2 for 16 lifetiem off Kazmier, but I expect him to reverse the trend tonight. You can
only keep a preimer hitter like Fielder at bay for so long and I expect for Fielder to finally turn the
tide against Kazmier tonight. Look for Fielder to go 2 4 with a homerun tonight.
Final Score Prediction
Sweeping someone is one of the hardest things to do in baseball, especially when you are going up
against the other teams ace. The Astros are a prideful bunch, division leaders, and they aren t
going to roll over. Nick Martinez was much better in his last start, but hasn t been great all year.
Kazmier had a historic month of July and he now owns the best ERA in the AL. He ll face a
depleted Rangers lineup that s resting some of their more imposing hitters, and for that reason I
expect the Astros to get the win tonight. Look for the Astros to salvage a game and win by a final
score of 6 2. Hopefully I m wrong and this Rangers lineup can surprise me, but I just think Kazmier

Epic of Sundiata In the story of The supernatural in African Epic Traditions, the embodiment of the
storytelling pertains to traditions in classical Africa by providing education and examples of how
the African culture tradition was. Particularly referring to West Africa
, the culture was based on
supernatural powers, rituals and sorcery which played a dominant role in their daily lives. They
also believed in divine revelation. In the story no matter which story it was telling, it still had the
base of the same beloved system which was like a spiritual map on how to live. The narrator by
the name of Mariam K. Deme did an excellent job with the stories by illustrating the correlations
between them. The symbolism that appears throughout the of Sundiata the African rituals and the

determination. In the text his mother was referred to as the buffalo Woman and his father as the
noble ancestry. The different names throughout Sundiata s life were the lion child,, buffalo child,
lion prince and lion (pg. 37). The significance of each name were just various ways of him being

Troublesome LUTS
The normal prostate is a small squishy gland about the size of a walnut and is located under the
bladder and in front of the rectum. The urethra runs directly through the prostate (McCance,
Huether, 2014). The nerves that control erectile function are attached to the sides of the prostate. It
is a gland that is important for reproduction. The prostate gland undergoes first growth spurt during
puberty and a second growth spurt during the fifth decade of life. BPH is a non cancerous prostatic
condition that develops at the transition zone that surrounds the urethra or urinary tube, due to the
imbalance between androgen and estrogen secretion causing hyperplasia (Timms, Hofkamp, 2011).
Major symptoms of BPH is caused by this hyperplasia, which obstructs the urethra and bladder.
Physical and Psychological Demands of BPH on Patient and Family
BPH is more prevalent in ageing men and causes troublesome LUTS, which has a negative impact
on their quality of life. The problems experienced by patients and family are grouped into the

Ronald Reagan Inclusiveness
The fortieth president of the United States, Ronald Reagan served from 1981 1989. His was a
rather controversial presidency, during his two terms he worked to reinvigorate the economy of
the United States; he wanted to restore the countries self confidence and bring about prosperity,
which is admirable. Even so, in my opinion he did not pass the test, he was short sighted and did
not think inclusively. He wanted the nation to be prosperous, but not the whole nation. According
to his son, President Reagan felt that anyone who was poor or lower class was that way because
of their own life style and choices. That, is enough for me to say he didn t pass, he was
inconsiderate. I very much feel that had he been more considerate during his presidency,

Poem Analysis Of Wilfred Owen
Kavitha Vudatha Period 2B
Wilfred Owen Poem Analysis Essay Wilfred Owen is a poet whose journey through life has
molded him into a character of testimony and reality. From the early days of his childhood to
his experiences in war, Owen has evolved into a poet who provides his altruistic view on life.
His use of diction that emphasizes his theme of appearance/and or fate vs reality and the imagery
that describes each scene with clarity and connection of Owen s spirit to his experiences in war,
provides not only a peek into his life but his views on what he saw and what makes him unique.
During his time serving in the war, Wilfred Owen was able to capture many ideas, concepts, and
perceptions that cleverly portrayed into his poems. Even the Sassoon had an impression that Owen,
no matter what, had complete dedication and he passionately wanted to survive the war, so that he
might continue to write poetry.. he showed himself as ...an increasingly self critical one. Owen
was quite dedicated to his work and he let nothing go past him. His sentiment to the war was a
recurring speech that echoed his very thoughts. In one of his poems, the Sentry, Owens uses the
words Hammered , choked , murk.. , and whizz bangs to establish the reality of war and what
those soldiers are put through. This is in contrast with the word coaxing , which shifts the
attention away from reality to more of Owen s altruism and appearance that the man is able to
survive. The onomatopoeia used in the second stanza present a sudden push into reality, such as
thud! Flump! Thud! . This sudden jump also supplies information on how difficult it was to
navigate through the war zone. In the third stanza, Owen switches to a form of fate, in which he
relates how this may have been the fate of the man. He forms these thoughts with words phrases
such as wild chattering , crumps , Pummelled , or slogged the air , that imply how the feeling of
dread metaphorically listens for these words before striking . The Sentry is quite different from any
of the other poems that Wilfred Owen has written in that it seems to be centered around internal
dialogue rather than just him laying out details and interpretations of events. The specific dialogue

How Does Echo And Narcissus Teach A Moral Lesson

stories are without a doubt extremely important in our world as they teach us moral lessons in
which we can apply to daily life. An example in which this is demonstrated is the story of Echo

The Scarlet Letter By Hugues Merle
The Scarlet Letter (Figure 1) painted by Hugues Merle in 1861 depicts the novel The Scarlet
Letter by Nathanial Hawthorne. Hester Prynne, an adulteress forced to wear the letter A upon
her bosom forever, becomes an outcast from the community with her daughter, Pearl. Merle was
often known for painting scenes of mothers and children. He illustrates the scene of Hester and
Pearl sitting in the town square as part of her punishment. The townspeople walk by, pointing
fingers and making shrewd remarks. Merle s painting, his biography, and other renditions of the
novel and painting will be later discussed. Hugues Merle (1823 1881) was a talented French
painter during the middle of the nineteenth century who fit into the impressionist category as he
painted sweet and tender genre themes (Schiller Bodo). He was born in Saint Marcellin and
eventually moved to Paris. While in Paris, he became a student of LГ©on Cogniet at the Ecole
des Beaux Arts and began to exhibit his work at the Salon in 1847. By 1859, his reputation as a
painter of portraits and biblical themes made him popular among American collectors. In 1861
and 1863, he was awarded second class medals and in 1866, he was made Chevalier of the
Legion of Honor. Merle painted a range of subjects, including historical anecdotes, allegories, and
rural genre scenes such as those of mothers and children. His works were compared to Bouguereau
since he painted childhood innocence and maternal affection so well (Schiller

The USAF and Future Leaders
The USAF invests a lot of time and money in developing future leaders. In fact it established
four schools geared toward developing its enlisted force at different levels of leadership. Those
schools are the Airmen Leadership School (ALS), Non commissioned Officer Academy
(NCOA), and Senior Non Commissioned Academy (SNCO), and the Chief School. All four
schools focus on developing the leadership and management skills needed to supervise, manage,
and lead people at each level of responsibility. The military as a whole has long history of
leadership training and development (Gibson, 2005). The accomplishment of the mission is
paramount for any military organization. Leadership is the determining factor in obtaining that
goal. USAF defines leadership as the impact of personal influence and persuasion upon followers
to direct the accomplishment of objectives. Leadership is not restricted to senior management and
leadership, but is expected throughout all ranks. Gibson (2005, p2) states effective leadership is
imperative to the achievement of military missions and the perception of the appropriate
individuals, regardless of tenor, as leaders is paramount to this effectiveness. The way leaders
interact and manage people has a direct bearing on employees job performance and satisfaction.
Too often in the USAF many leaders employ an authoritative leadership style at the expense of
people. Others fail to engage their followers at all. The assumption in the USAF is that

A Brief Look at World War II
World War II World War II was the largest war and the bloodiest war that the U.S. has ever been
involved in. Forty to Fifty million people lost their lives during World War II. This was a war
that lasted for about six years and involved countries from around the whole world. The axis
powers in the war consisted of Germany, Italy, and Japan. The Allie powers consisted of the
United States, France, Great Britain, the Soviet Union, and to a lesser extent, China. It is said
that unsettled disputes from the first world war, World War I, is what was the main cause of
WWII. Japan trained men for the war starting at the age of nine years old. It is said that of all the
Soviet men that were born in the year 1923, only twenty percent survived the war. This means
eighty percent of all males died in the war. That s from one country, imagine how many innocent
lives were taken during the war. All because of one man, Adolf Hitler. The war stemmed off in
early 1939 when German dictator Adolf Hitler had intentions of invading Poland. Poland knew
about this, so they went to France and Britain for an alliance should Germany invade them. When
Germany heard about this, they decided it would be good to take out the Soviets because they
didn t know if they would fight on Poland s side or not. On August 23, 1939, Germany and the
Soviets signed the German Soviet Nonaggression pact. This stated that once Poland was taken over,
the country would be divided evenly between the two power countries.

Sebastian Character Monologue
So, if you saw, I changed my mind about the Sebastian x Reader thing. It s going to be all boy
characters (excluding Ciel and Alois, they are gonna be for Luna which I am also going to share
her POV as I said in the last chapter. :D By the way, if you like vocaloid songs, you ll like this
song! It s been my favorite for a while now :D Today was the day after Sebastian informed me
about the Ball and the day before it begins. I promised myself that I wanted to improve my
relationships with the servants of the manor excluding Sebastian. So, what do I do? Help them,
of course. Currently, I was helping Finny trim the rose bushes. It was a really tedious task,
because Finny said that Ciel likes only white roses in the garden. It was awkward because we
were too shy to think of anything to say. Hi Finny, I finally spoke up, not taking my eyes off the rose

Sebastian has already made the soup part, we have to just chop up the vegetables and put it in

cabbage, celery, onions, and green beans. It s really healthy and delicious once we get it done..
Baldroy just looked at me with a dumbfounded face. Wha, we need all that?! Can t we just use a
flamethrower? It probably works the same way without vegetables. I mentally sighed. Bard was
being an idiot. Can you get them from the cellar please? I asked, ignoring his previous statement.

Summary of Case Study
* Role of Apple
Apple is a company known for creative, disruptive new technologies and business models. One of
its most recent products, the iPhone, represents this kind of technology. Apple opened up its
iPhone platform to third party developers shortly after releasing it. They provide what s known as
the iPhone SDK (software development kit) to developers free of charge.

In addition, it can be considered as a low end disruption technology as they reduced the price of
music sales by introducing the iTunes store. Moreover, when considering Apple s iPodproduct
chain, it can be said that they introduced products that cover low end disruption and are also
sustaining innovations.
Even though there were many companies involved in the DAP market before and after iPod was
introduced, Apple still holds more than 70% of the DAP market share and they are the largest
music store in major countries such as USA, Japan and Canada. Therefore, it can be argued that the
iPod is not a sustaining technology but a disruptive technology.

A few highlights: * Five years ago, the iPhone didn t exist. It now generates nearly $25 billion of
revenue per quarter, or $100 billion per year. That is a staggering amount of revenue. The iPhone

The Current Principles Of Early Year s Pedagogy And...
(Fisher 2013:5) The years from 0 7 are a period of human development with the capacity to learn.
This quote links into this assignment as it shows how important the first couple of years in a child s
life can affect them the throughout their life. It shows how important it is to have the pioneers
input into the practice and teaching of children as its important they have the best start in life to
help them develop.
In this assignment I am going to compare previous and current pioneers that have and are
influencing the current principles of early year s pedagogy. For example how they are influencing
the four principles of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). This assignment will get me to
look at different views that theorist have to education and how they can be used in current
practice. It will provide me with the information on how they influence early year s pedagogy and
current practice. Throughout this assignment I will be referencing from current reading that I am
doing, these will range from eBooks to articles. I will be using nursery world articles to provide
information about each pioneer and what their work has done for current principles in early year s
pedagogy.
The EYFS is a framework for children up to the of five, it sets out the six key areas of learning
which activities that are planned for children should be based upon. It also sets the learning and
development requirements that practitioners must follow for children below the age of five. The

Our Physical And Ecological Environment That Shapes Our...
In this paper, I will argue between our physical and ecological environment that shapes our society
and culture.
First of all, we already have a firm scientific basis by which to assess the effect it has on the
development of biology. For example, Darwinian science makes it clear that environment provides
the driving force over long periods of time, longer than recorded of human cultural history. Darwin
s legendary Galapagos finches, with their beaks each adapted to the differing food sources on
different islands, are a perfect example of the sort of determinism that some scholars fallaciously
wish to apply to the evolution of culture. But for culture, despite of popular cant about memetics
that does not evolve biologically.
As we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nevertheless, the larger correlation between biodiversity and cultural diversity does seem to persist
in different studies of different regions. Such as, in Nabhan, Pines et al. in their 2002 article on
Safeguarding Species, Languages, and Cultures in the Time of Diversity Loss look instead at a
different region, the Colorado Plateau in North America, where the same conclusions appear to
hold, although in this case it seems that human intellectual culture (i.e., academia) remains hung up
on old ideas that no longer have any relevance to a genuine objective assessment.
Furthermore, the Colorado Plateau undoubtedly ranks among the top five American regions north
of the Tropic of Cancer in terms of linguistic, cultural, and biological diversity, as well as in
biological and linguistic/cultural endemism. Nevertheless there is not a single conservation plan
that takes into account both the cultural diversity and the biological diversity of the region. It is as

The second types of inventory methods to value its inventory that CVS uses is the most common
one used for most business the First In, First Out (FIFO). First In, First Out (FIFO) is defined as
the first inventories bought are the first ones to be sold. CVS only uses FIFO for Some Retail
Pharmacy and Rest of Business (Front store). CVS utilizes this method because; the fresher
products have to be out the door first. Also, FIFO is an easier method than Weighted Average Cost.
And most importantly it may over inflate cost because the last products bought and out the door
first are usually the most expensive products.
Effective January 1, 2012, the Company changed its methods of accounting for prescription drug
inventories in the Retail Pharmacy Segment. Prior to 2012, the Company valued prescription drug
inventories at the lower of cost or market on a first in, first out ( FIFO ) basis in retail pharmacies
using the retail inventory method and in distribution centers using the FIFO cost method. (Annual
Report Archive)
Walgreens on the other hand only focuses on one inventory method. Walgreens uses the Last In,
First Out (LIFO) method for the entire business. In the LIFO method items bought last are sold
first, which also means that the items still in stock are the oldest ones. Walgreens focuses in the
method because it limits lower of cost or market approach, but not better than weighted average

In the 90 s television series, Roseanne, the daily life of the Conner family is follow with a
comedic touch. In it, the ways members the family engage with each other is modeled after a
stereotypical view of the American middle class household. As a result, the show focuses mostly on
the actions and roles the father and mothertake as a part of a family. Using scenes in the first two
episodes, it is possible to analyze what being a mother and father means in America in the modern
era. Dan Conner, the father featured in the show, displays characteristics of what many Americans

The choice of the occupational and recreational roles of an individual was also unquestionable due
to traditional definitions of maleness and femaleness and the determination of what actions and
activities are appropriate for each. Those who choose to deviate from the norm faced a major
dilemma associated with these sex roles that fell into two characteristics: severe social retribution
and accepting or rejecting the socially prescribed role. When disturbing the balance of a society by
deviating from the traditional standards one is subject to ostracism and alienation. Thomas and
Znaniecki (1918 1920) introduced the idea that a person s thinking processes and attitudes are
constructed by the interaction between that person s situation and his or her behavior. Those
individuals who willing rejected the traditional values, beliefs, and ideas were ultimately subject to
death.
The allocation of the roles is based solely on the most obvious differences between men and
women. Men were larger, stronger and possessed a greater amount of endurance where as women
were viewed as smaller, weaker and were considered flawed because of menstruation. Men were
favored because of their physical strength, the absentness of periodic bleeding, and did not
participate in any role of bearing and nurturing of children. Women s bodies female sexuality, their

14 Year Olds-Personal Narrative
One stormy dark night me and 3 of my friends were about to the unthinkable for a bunch of 14

The Cultural Impact Of Technology
The world today is very different from the world our grandparents lived in. There are a lot of
advancements in technology that make things obviously different, but there are also many changes
in our culture and society that has been affected by technological changes that many people fail to
realize. One film that showcases the cultural impact of technology is the movie Hackers, directed
by Lain Softley. The film is centered around the latest technology available (in 1995 when the film
was released) and the growing culture centered around the elite hackercommunity. The premise of
the film is that a group of hackers are being framed for a virus that was launched to capsize ships
if a demand for five million dollars was not met. The group of hackers work together to prove that
they are innocent by hacking into the database of a major corporation. In that database is the virus
that was created by the company s head of cyber securitythat was supposed to steal a total of
twenty five million dollars. The ships that were to be destroyed were all linked through satellite
connections. Each ship is automatically guided and managed by a central computer. While it is
commonplace for companies today to use satellite guidance systems and remote access to onboard
computers, the movie does nudge the story along by making the whole system extremely
vulnerable. Such things like three character passwords and single centralized command centers are
obvious flaws with the system used in the

Conclusion Of The Declaration Of Independence
The Declaration of Independence was created in 1776 by Thomas Jefferson and the Continental
Congress. This document is a founding document of the United States because it created the
foundation for the United States government, established independence for the nation, granted
equal rights for all citizens, and gave the nation the ability to sell and trade independently. As a
founding father of the United States, Thomas jeffersonwas highly qualified to write the Declaration
of Independence. Thomas Jefferson was elected by the thirteen colonies to draft the document
because of his intelligence, experience fighting in the Revolutionary War, status as the founder of
the University of Virginia, and role as the third President of the United States. Jefferson also studied
at the College of William and Mary in the practice of law. Although most believe Jefferson was the
only person involved in writing the Declaration, he actually had a team to help him, called the
Continental Congress. This team consisted of Benjamin Franklin from Pennsylvania, John Adams
from Massachusetts, Roger Sherman of Connecticut, and Robert Livingston of New York. Jefferson
stated unanimously pressed on myself alone to undertake the draught [sic]. I consented; I drew it;
but before I reported it to the committee I communicated it separately to Dr. Franklin and Mr.
Adams requesting their corrections. . . I then wrote a fair copy, reported it to the committee, and
from them, unaltered to the Congress.

The Media And The Stereotypes Of Women In The Media
Every day, millions of Americans view the front covers of magazines like Vogue, Cosmopolitan,
and more. They see them while at grocery stores, on the television, and even in the waiting room
at a doctor s office. The media offer advertisements with models that are seemingly slim with
perfect skin, hair, and teeth. American propaganda leaves most young, adolescent girls between the
ages of 5 18 to consider that the complexity of beauty is strict to be thin and perfect, though it is
targeted to young adolescents, it does aim towards older femaleand male age ranges as well. An
article states, While the media attempt to target every person, the level of exposure is dictated by
gender, and the majority of harmful messages is focused more toward women. For instance, in
media such as magazines where a person relies on an image to relate a feeling, girls are often
made to look inferior (Chapman). When it comes to the media, specifically in the American culture,
the popularity has massively increased over the years, turning to new weekly issues, becoming

The Theme of Lord of the Flies Essay
When a group of children become stranded on a deserted island, the rules of society no longer apply
to them. Without the supervision of their parents or of the law, the primitive nature of the boys
surfaces. Consequently, the boys live without luxury that could have been obtained had they
maintained a society on the island. Instead, these young boystake advantage of their freedom, and
life as they knew it deteriorates. Lord of the Flies is influenced by the author s life and experiences.
Golding s outlook on life changes, due to his heavy involvement in W.W.II, to his current
philosophy that quot; The shape of society must depend on the ethical nature of the individual, and
not on any political system... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A rule is made that the boys will work as a group to build the huts for protection from weather and
to act as a home for the littl uns. The boys ignore the task and become preoccupied with hunting,
swimming and eating, leaving the huts unfinished and rank. Therefore, the neglecting of the shelters
is an example of the deterioration of rules in the novel.
Deterioration is also shown when Jack alters the use of fire. The rule that Ralph, the leader,
makes at the beginning of the novel is that Jack and the other choir boys have a duty to keep the
signal fire going at all times. When a ship passes, Ralph is enraged to find that Jack let the fire
burn out; Jack breaks his promise and the rule. As a result, the boys on the island are unnoticed
and fail to be rescued by the ship; there is no fire smoke to signal it. Although the intentions of
the fire are good, Jack causes chaos when he uses it against Ralph. At the end of the novel Jack
sets the whole island on fire in order to kill Ralph. quot; They had smoked him out and set the
whole island on fire quot; (Golding, p.197). The fire that at one point symbolizes hope, has now
turned to destruction. When the savage instincts are controlled by civilization it leads to good, but
when they are out of control it leads to evil. Thus, Jack abuses the advantage of fire and his actions
contribute the deterioration of rules.
The final, and perhaps the most

The Importance Of Gun Safety Issues
The first article is about how, in 2016, Virginia s Democratic governor and Virginian Republicans
compromised on gun safety. This issue impacts Virginia as it allows citizens from states with less
strict concealed gun carry laws to carry their guns in Virginia, which potentially could cause safety
issues. Nonetheless, it also allows state police to conduct background checks in gun shows and
restricts people who have committed domestic abuse from buying weapons, which, in total, makes
the state safer. The parties involved in this compromise are Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe and
Speaker William J. Howell, however, in the article, House Leader David Toscano and the Coalition
to Stop Gun Violence also comment on the compromise. An important

Vulnerability And Risk Of Poor Health
INTRODUCTION Everyone is potentially vulnerable at some point over the extent of one s
lifetime. More specifically, everyone is potentially at risk of poor physical, psychological, or
social health. The word vulnerable is defined by the Merrian Webster s Dictionary as capable of
being physically wounded or open to attack or damage . Commonly, the word vulnerability
indicates one s susceptibility to health problems, harm or neglect. Some however, maybe more or
less susceptible or at risk of poor health at different times in their lives, while certain individuals
and communities are more likely to be at risk than others at any given point in time (Aday, 1994).
Thus, vulnerable populations may be defined as social groups with an increased susceptibility to
adverse health outcomes (Flaskerud Winslow, 1998). A fundamental component to the definition of
vulnerability is the concept of risk, or the relative probability that an individual may become ill
within a given period of time (Aday, 1994). Community and individual characteristics are risk
factors predictive of the incidence of vulnerability. Risk factors, for example smoking or lead
exposure, are attributes that are related to increases in the probability of occurrence of health
related outcomes (Aday, 1998). Evidence of differences in vulnerability or increased risk, which
lead to negative health outcomes include: premature mortality, comparative morbidity, decreased
functional and mental status, decreased ability to

Even in times where his employees are causing him a lot of anguish he always understands and
never gets too angry. When the narrator first asks Bartleby to do a task and Bartleby says I
would prefer not to. (Melville 306), the narrator does not get very angry, he questions Bartleby
but then proceeds to sit back down and go on with his day. Most people with employees would
get very angry at them and scold them but instead the narrator just sits back down and thinks
about it and assumes that Bartleby did not have bad intentions. The narrator states I should have
violently dismissed him from the premises. But as it was, I should have as soon thought of
turning my pale plaster of paris bust of Cicero out of doors. I stood gazing at him awhile, as he
went on with his own writing, and then reseated myself at my desk. (Melville 307). It is also
shown in the story that he is understanding when he fires Bartleby yet he comes back to his office
to find Bartleby still inside and he does not make any rash decisions and refuses to treat Bartleby
with any disrespect, however the narrator did not want Bartleby to be living under his roof for
free. The narrator thinks to himself Turn the man out by an actual thrusting I could not; to drive

Rhetorical Analysis Of Barrack Obama s Met Barack Obama
July 27, 2004, was the night America met Barack Obama. This was the night that Obama, a
member of the Illinois Senate at the time, spoke as the keynote speaker at the Democratic
National Convention. Obama is widely known for his and grand speeches that bring tears of
hope and joy to many Americans eyes. To be able to produce such strong emotions, a speaker
must put forth a speech that has all aspects of The Rhetoric, Ethos, pathos, logos, and the five
canons, as a well as use another theory called Narrative Paradigm to register with the audience.
Barrack Obama s 2004 DNC speech become widely successful as it created hope and national
unity throughout Americas with the help of Obama s use of The Rhetoric and Narrative
Paradigm Theory. The Rhetoric is a theory created by Aristotle; can be defined by Aristotle
himself as an ability, in each particular case, to see the available means of persuasion . This
theory holds three proofs to its name, ethos, pathos, and logos. The key to a successful speech is
holding all three of these proofs in the work. Ethos is the character and credibility that the
speaker holds. Pathos is what kind of emotional connection the speaker makes with the audience.
And Logos is how clear and rational the speaker s argument is (Wenzel, 2017). Obama has all
three proofs represented in his speech. Obama s Ethos or his credibility comes from the fact that
he was chosen as the keynote speaker at the DNC. While at the time he was a not widely known
politician, the fact that he was picked by presidential nominee, John Kerry. The way Obama
carries himself with pride and confidence; leading the audience to believe that he truly is just
that. If Obama made this same exact speech on the street people would not give him one minuet
of their time but because the DNC is a huge event held for the presidential elections, that
automatically gives him creditability. Obama uses pathos by telling the story of his parents
growing up. He tells the audience about how his father grew up in rural Kenya, herding goats,
and eventually worked his way to a scholarship in a magical place: America (Obama, 2004). He
goes on to tell the story of his mother and how she grew up in America with a military father and a

Essay about Features of Post Modern Fictions
Some of the dominant features of postmodern fictions include temporal disorder, the erosion of
the sense of time, a foregrounding of words as fragmenting material signs, a pervasive and
pointless use of pastiche, loose association of ideas, paranoia and the creation of vicious circles or
a loss of destination between separate levels of discourse, which are all symptoms of the language
disorders of postmodernist fictions. The postmodern novelmay be summed up as:
Late modernism.
Anti modernism.
Not avant garde tendency (may be avant garde within a literary period).
Emphasizes plot than character.
Characters are fragmented/multiple.
Experimental.
Misogynist.
Denigration of female writers.
Matter of packaging.

Choudhary states:
The major feature of this kind of fiction lies in the subversion of the assumptions and generic traits
and function of fiction, including modernist novel. Generically postmodernist fiction is self
questioning in nature, skeptical about its possibilities, rules and principles. Its function is
disillusionary; it dives into the underside of fiction and explodes its fallacies...Postmodernist text
directs itself to the suspension of meaning by using disruptive narrative, polyphony, multiple ending
and the like thereby frustrating intelligibility. It is devoid of teleology and causality (12). Some
critics are of the view that postmodern fictions do not convey any moral values and imparts untrue
elements. In a postmodern word, literature is just another text. You can forget all that stuff about
truth and value and other alienating lies perpetual by a deliberately selective version of history
controlled by crazy power freaks and their lackey dupes. Truth is only what circulates as such:
hence the importance of technology and the media to an understanding of our world today. Values
are only effects of cultural traditions; hence the importance of becoming cynical today, in order not
to be suppressed under the suffocating of culture and tradition (Lucy viii). A.S.D. Pillai states that:
The contemporary cultural situation, the postmodern text reveals in its construction a world of
valueless vaudeville. But, as has been repeatedly pointed out, black

The Effects Of Bordetella Pertussis On An Acute...
Introduction
Bordetella pertussis (known as whooping cough) was discovered by Bordet and Gengou as an
acute respiratory tract infection. (1 2)
The highly contagious B. pertussis is a strictly aerobic gram negative coccobacillus that grows best
between 35 37 ВєC, and is transmitted through inhalation of aerosol droplets. It is one of ten
known Bordetella species, and accounts for 50 million cases annually, in which 300,000 of them
result in death. (1 3)
Pathogenesis
There are four stages in B. pertussis infection. The first stage is attachment. Filamentous
hemagglutinin (FHA), a type of protein, along with fimbrae (FIM), a cell surface structure, serve as
major adhesins (for adhesion) for pertussis. (1) They firstly attach to ciliated epithelial cells in the
nasopharynx, and then begin to multiply. (4)
The second stage is evasion of host defenses. Pertussis uses adenylate cyclase toxin (ACT) and
pertussis toxin (PT), a complex bacterial toxin, to evade host defenses. ACT inhibits the motility
and activation of phagocytes and T lymphocytes, while PT targets the lung s immune system. This
prevents neutrophils from reaching the respiratory tract quickly, and also promotes the infection
through macrophages. PT also causes lymphocytosis, which is an influx of lymphocytes in the
blood. (1 2)
The third stage is local damage. Pulmonary lesions, necrosis, and peeling of ciliated bronchial
epithelium occurs. This is accomplished by tracheal cytoxin (TCT) and dermonecrotic toxins,

Australia And The United States
Australia and the United States of America are two modern, democratic, English speaking countries
both initially settled by the British. Captain James Cook led a fleet of settlers and convicts into the
Botany Bay in Australia in 1788. The United States declared its Independence in 1776, and fought a
war with the British to obtain that independence. Australia began with a central government, then
the states came about and, lastly, local governments came into being (Australia.gov.au, 2014). It
was opposite for the U.S. Communities combined into territories and states, which eventually
became the Unites States. Both Australia and the United Stateslook as if to have similar systems of
government at first glance. They are both federated nations, which means that the power to govern
is shared between national and state governments. Both systems are bicameral, consisting of two
chambers, with an elected House of Representatives and Senate. However, Australia is a
constitutional monarchy and the U.S. is a republic. The similarities and differences between the
two systems can be seen in their structure, their Constitutions, their elections of the heads of state,
and their legislature.
The United States and Australia both have a Parliament that contains two houses: the House of
Representatives and the Senate. In the United States our Parliament is called Congress. Australia s
political system can be considered a mixture of the US and British systems. The parliamentary and

  • 2. The Study Of The Theory Of International Relations The study of international relations takes a vast spectrum of theoretical approaches. A theory of international relations is a collection of concepts that delineate how the international system operates (SparkNote on International Politics, 2010). Contrary to an ideology, a theory of international studies is endorsed with solid evidence. This essay will focus on two dominant theories of International Relations(IR), namely realism and liberalismto decide for this matter on the more pragmatic one for the study of IR. According to realism, states work only to gain more power relative to that of other states (Donelan: 1990:23). Liberalism matured in the 1970s as some scholars generated arguments that realism was defunct. With the rise of globalization, the immediate increase in communications technology, and the expansion of international trade meant that states could no longer be dependent on complete power politics to resolve matters (Lawson, 2015:96).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Liberalism is contrary to realism, in a sense that it places confidence in the amount of power through state economies, the prospects of peace and cooperation, rights and notions of political freedoms (Burchill et al, 2005: 80). This essay delineates the reasons why liberal theory would be the suitable theory for the study of IR, the position of the theory today and lastly the three variants of ... • 3. William Shakespeare s Three Sets Nature And The... The Sublime in Three Sets Nature and the Romantics are two sides of the same coin. In almost every single poem we have read over the course of this semester we have been able to find hints of the natural world. These instances were moments of hunger. While industrialization was tearing landscapes up by their roots, Romantic poets were desperate to experience the euphoric sense of sublimity they had come to associate with the highest level of consciousness. However, this sense of sublimity is not a constant achievable state. For each poet the definition is different, and time was altering the facets of this theory. This paper will look critically at two poets and one essayist in an attempt to study the changing face of sublimity. For... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These pastoral farms, / Green to the very door; and wreaths of smoke / Sent up, in silence, from among the trees! (17 19). The landscape is lush, green, and welcoming with mention to wreaths . Smoke symbolizes warmth within these homes, as well. The reference to the word pastoral is connotative with rural countryside based imagery. There is also a sense of innocence about this landscape. Something the speaker is looking in on with feelings of elation. Wordsworth definition of the word sublime is one of positivity, which is shown in the following quotation. ...felt along the heart; / And passing even into my purer mind / With tranquil restoration: feelings too / Of unremembered pleasure: (29 32). Wordsworth is giving us what is happening internally to our speaker. He is lulled by this picturesque countryside into complete tranquility and peace. He is even allowed the wonderful feeling of pleasure. For Wordsworth, the sublime is synonymous with pleasure of the purest form. Other language that supports this claim are words such as beauteous joy and dizzy rapture to describe the experience of looking down upon Tintern Abbey s splendor. Further within the reading we find that the sublime is often tantamount to mystery and a deep sense of the unknown. However, this mystery to Wordsworth is not a haunting one. The following quotation expands on this characteristic of the sublime. Of aspect more sublime; that blessed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. The Play Of The Diary Of Anne Frank Analysis Hiding in the holocaust was a horrible thing. If you had too, do you think you would survive? Although it was horrific, one Jewish girl, Anne Frank said, In spite of everything, I still believe people are really good at heart. Anne never lost hope. She never just looked at the negative in all things. She thought that if someone was bad they could always change, and she was right. After reading The Play of the Diary of Anne FrankI have come to the conclusion that I agree with Anne s quote. The biggest reason I agree with Anne s quote is what Peter did. Even though I think this, there are some people who do not agree with this quote. I think some people would disagree because of what selfish thing Mr. Van Daan did with his wife s coat for himself. There were a lot of other things in The Play of the Diary of Anne Frank, but there was one that got me convended right when I saw. It was a big act of kindness coming from Peter. On page 114 115 this dialogue happened: Anne: This isn t true. You re much better than I am in dozens of things arithmetic and algebra and ... Well, you re a million time better than I am in algebra. (With sudden directness.) You like Margot, don t you? Right from the start you likes her, liked her much better than me. Peter: (uncomfortably) Oh, I don t know. Anne: It s all right. • 7. Problems Associated With The Researcher concerns (Todres, 2007). Todres (2007) and McCormick (2010) suggest the researcher can remedy this by staying in connection with his or her own felt sense . On the other hand, words can work between the researcher and the participant in a shared way. Just as words are a bodily experience for the participant, they are for the researcher as well. When words work for the participant, they also work for the researcher not only in deepening the researcher s understanding, but in becoming aware of the lived sense of his or her situation (Todres, 2007). In embodied inquiry, the researcher s task is to be open to the process in him or herself in which the words do not just make logical sense, but which open up the possibility of seeing something together (Todres, 2007, p. 39), a sense the researcher understands in an embodied way. Embodied understanding does not mean that the researcher has the same experience, but it means that the words show the researcher something more that involves a bodily sense of being present to the whole situation (Todres, 2007, p. 39). Another dimension of inter embodied understanding is that it seems to help the participant s ongoing ability to bring his or her sense to language. New meanings can be experienced as making sense by the participant and the researcher. There are possibly new meanings to be expressed from a situation and the process of sense making allows these new meanings to appear. According to Todres (2007), languaging ... This theme is similar except the characters slowly reveal their true nature that no one ever even knew. In this chapter, I will talk about the theme, which is No one is exactly who they seem to be , and how it affects three characters Persis Blake, Justen Helo, and Vania Aldred. They each have their own secrets that they hide from the world, and sometimes, even themselves. First of all, there is Vania Aldred. She begins the book as a close sister to Justen Helo, but then over time, she turns into a ruthless, cruel person, who doesn t hesitate to hurt her own, close adopted sibling. And she, alone, has to deal with the fact that one day, she will die from this horrible disease. This can be seen when Justen Helo analyzed Persis Helo on page 187, A silly, spoiled aristo who was keeping the secret of her mother s illness from those in her society who might use this knowledge as a weapon. A flighty, shallow young woman who steadfastly filled the weighted silence at her family dinners with meaningless chatter about fashion and court scandals. • 9. Data Security Case Study The Compromising of Data Security Due to Corporate Consolidation The United States has held serious tension with monopolies and overarching, powerful companies since before the Boston Tea Party. They are some of the most illicit phenomena known to Americans, which has led to its governmental regulation. Nevertheless, Americans have found a near enough equivalent: oligopolies; the formation of very few, large companies dominating their respective sectors through what is recognized as the concept of corporate consolidation . This process involves eliminating the competition by essentially purchasing it, maintaining only a few potent, growing, businesses in the market (Wu). Found in any type of industry, the pairing of the power these... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Moreover, there are laws and organizations that are designed to try and defend the consumer in instances involving large corporations such as the F.T.C, which initiated an investigation but could not heavily fine the institution because it was a first offense, and the C.F.P.B, that could not undergo prosecution of Equifax because of their sole focus on the quality and/or deceit of products being sold in the market. Even if regulators could open up a case for Equifax, executives would find a way to evade the situation by convincing the court that the case needs to be tried as individuals and not as a whole enterprise(Henning). The implementing of organizations like these is supposed to ensure the safety of the consumer, but evidently, that s a goal that is currently not being fulfilled (Sotto and Logan). Incidents like the Equifax security breach is just one of many that demonstrate that the administration holds an insufficient amount of power to successfully regulate the way that members of oligopolies handle their customers personal information. Even more concerning is the way in which Equifax managed said infringement. The prolonged time that the corporation took to notify its customers of the illegal data access refrained them from performing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Traditional Western and Disney Ideals as Seen in Mulan Essay Traditional Western and Disney Ideals as Seen in Mulan Fairy tales have been a long tradition in almost all cultures, starting as oral traditions to and gradually evolving into written texts intended for future generations to enjoy. Today, a common medium for relaying these ancient stories is through animation. The Walt Disney Companyis probably the most well known for its animated portrayals of many classic fairy tales. These fairy tales are considered, by fairy tale researcher Justyna Deszcz to be cultural institutions, which exist within an institutional framework of production, distribution, and reception, as well as fulfilling specific social functions, such as the preservation of the cultural heritage of a given country. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is only at this time that the rest of the army discovers that she is a woman. The ballad ends at this point, but research has been done on the historical Hua Mulan, showing that this ballad does not give a full and accurate account of the warrior. First, Hua Mulan s family name was not, in fact, Hua, but rather Wei. Second and more importantly, is Mulan s life after her return home. Once the Sui Emperor, Yang Di, heard about this woman warrior, he was greatly impressed and asked her to come live at his palace and serve as one of his concubines. However, the woman refused and committed suicide instead. Since this matter was bad for the emperor s reputation, no one dared eulogize Mulan in writing...and her exploits were only recorded among the populace in the form of a folk song [ Ode to Mulan ] (Song, 33). The Walt DisneyCompany had two target audiences for its animated version of this Chinese folk tale. Along with its primary audience, the United States, Disney was also looking to appeal to its Chinese consumers. There were two main reasons for the company s newfound interest in China. First, Disney was responsible for distributing the movie Kundun in 1997, which told the story of the Dalai Lama. However, the Chinese government was not pleased with the portrayal because it felt that the movie was critical of its rule over Tibet and banned the movie from being shown in China (Kuhn). • 11. Technology And The Interrupted Brain Seeks Out A Professional Pat Galagan, author of Technology and The Interrupted Brain seeks out a professional to explain this. Dan Willingham, professor of Psychology at the University of Virginia states, Data from the last thirty years leads to a conclusion that is not scientifically challengeable: thinking well requires knowing facts, and that s true not only because you need something to think about. The very processes that teachers care about most critical thinking processes such as reasoning and problem solving are intimately intertwined with factual knowledge that is stored in long term memory (not just found in the environment) (Galagan). This generation of adolescents is so used to looking up everything in the internetthat their brains don t go the extra mile to think and develop. Therefore, they don t possess the amount of factual knowledge needed to mold higher level thinking and analysis. Take a look at this study done by researchers at the University of Connecticut in 2005. A group of seventh graders were asked to read information on a website on the Pacific Northwest Tree Octopus and evaluate the site s credibility and trustworthiness. All but one student deemed the site to be credible due to extensive cited sources, pictures, and a wide array of scientific words. The truth? The site was a hoax designed just for this experiment (Galagan). One might ask, why weren t most of the students able to recognize this? That s because these students didn t have a basic knowledge and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Analyse the factors that causes differences in the hazards posed by volcanoes around the world (40 marks) A hazard can be define as something which poses a level of threat the life, health, property or environment, a volcano can compromise all these things through the many hazards volcanoes presents. Such as lahars, flash flooding, landslides, pyroclastic flows, ash clouds and many others. There are factors which can influence the severity of the hazard and cause differences in them and can be classified into different categories, such as physical, economic, political and social. One physical factor which causes differences in a volcanic hazard is the steepness of the volcano. If the volcanoes sides are of a steep gradient then the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another physical factor is snow; if a volcano is snow capped, like Eyjafjallajokull, then the lahars and flash floods become a greater hazard. The flooding in Iceland in 2010 caused 700 people to be evacuated. Without the snow then lahars and floods may not be a problem at all. The location of the volcano is also important. If it is situated on a constructive plate boundary then it is generally less explosive, and therefore poses different threats to volcanoes situated on a destructive plate boundary. The volcano may also be situated on a hotspot like in Hawaii, where the eruptions aren t very explosive. Volcanos which aren t explosive can pose other threats to lava flows though, such as dangerous gases being released. Like in Lake Nyos, Cameroon where 1700 people died. Wind direction could also cause difference in the hazards, like during the Eyjafjallajokull eruption of 2010. If the wind was blowing in a different direction then the ash cloud wouldn t have been distributed across the Atlantic and Europe, meaning that there would have been a lot less air travel disruption. Then the ash cloud wouldn t have been a hazard as it wouldn t pose a threat to anyone. Ultimately physical factors determine which hazards are posed by the volcano and how intensive and threatening they are to human life. However they are not the sole factors that causes differences in hazards posed by volcanos. Settlement is a huge human ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm from Arlington, Texas. The Rangers will hand the ball to Nick Martinez (6 6, 4.01 ERA) as he will look to put together another nice performance after his last time out against the Giants. The Rangers will need a strong performance from Martinez, because the Houston Astros will turn to staff ace Scott Kazmier (6 5, 2.10 ERA) hoping to salvage a game of the three game series. Kazmier had a historic month of July and he now owns the best ERA in the AL. He ll face a depleted Rangers lineup that s resting some of their more imposing hitters, and for that reason I expect the Astros to get the win tonight. His was a rather controversial presidency, during his two terms he worked to reinvigorate the economy of the United States; he wanted to restore the countries self confidence and bring about prosperity, which is admirable. Even so, in my opinion he did not pass the test, he was short sighted and did not think inclusively. He wanted the nation to be prosperous, but not the whole nation. According to his son, President Reagan felt that anyone who was poor or lower class was that way because of their own life style and choices. • 18. Poem Analysis Of Wilfred Owen Kavitha Vudatha Period 2B Wilfred Owen Poem Analysis Essay Wilfred Owen is a poet whose journey through life has molded him into a character of testimony and reality. From the early days of his childhood to his experiences in war, Owen has evolved into a poet who provides his altruistic view on life. His use of diction that emphasizes his theme of appearance/and or fate vs reality and the imagery that describes each scene with clarity and connection of Owen s spirit to his experiences in war, provides not only a peek into his life but his views on what he saw and what makes him unique. During his time serving in the war, Wilfred Owen was able to capture many ideas, concepts, and perceptions that cleverly portrayed into his poems. Even the Sassoon had an impression that Owen, no matter what, had complete dedication and he passionately wanted to survive the war, so that he might continue to write poetry.. he showed himself as ...an increasingly self critical one. Owen was quite dedicated to his work and he let nothing go past him. His sentiment to the war was a recurring speech that echoed his very thoughts. In one of his poems, the Sentry, Owens uses the words Hammered , choked , murk.. , and whizz bangs to establish the reality of war and what those soldiers are put through. This is in contrast with the word coaxing , which shifts the attention away from reality to more of Owen s altruism and appearance that the man is able to survive. The onomatopoeia used in the second stanza present a sudden push into reality, such as thud! Flump! Thud! . This sudden jump also supplies information on how difficult it was to navigate through the war zone. In the third stanza, Owen switches to a form of fate, in which he relates how this may have been the fate of the man. He forms these thoughts with words phrases such as wild chattering , crumps , Pummelled , or slogged the air , that imply how the feeling of dread metaphorically listens for these words before striking . The Sentry is quite different from any of the other poems that Wilfred Owen has written in that it seems to be centered around internal dialogue rather than just him laying out details and interpretations of events. • 21. The USAF and Future Leaders The USAF invests a lot of time and money in developing future leaders. In fact it established four schools geared toward developing its enlisted force at different levels of leadership. Those schools are the Airmen Leadership School (ALS), Non commissioned Officer Academy (NCOA), and Senior Non Commissioned Academy (SNCO), and the Chief School. All four schools focus on developing the leadership and management skills needed to supervise, manage, and lead people at each level of responsibility. The military as a whole has long history of leadership training and development (Gibson, 2005). The accomplishment of the mission is paramount for any military organization. Leadership is the determining factor in obtaining that goal. USAF defines leadership as the impact of personal influence and persuasion upon followers to direct the accomplishment of objectives. Leadership is not restricted to senior management and leadership, but is expected throughout all ranks. Gibson (2005, p2) states effective leadership is imperative to the achievement of military missions and the perception of the appropriate individuals, regardless of tenor, as leaders is paramount to this effectiveness. The way leaders interact and manage people has a direct bearing on employees job performance and satisfaction. Forty to Fifty million people lost their lives during World War II. This was a war that lasted for about six years and involved countries from around the whole world. The axis powers in the war consisted of Germany, Italy, and Japan. The Allie powers consisted of the United States, France, Great Britain, the Soviet Union, and to a lesser extent, China. It is said that unsettled disputes from the first world war, World War I, is what was the main cause of WWII. Japan trained men for the war starting at the age of nine years old. It is said that of all the Soviet men that were born in the year 1923, only twenty percent survived the war. This means eighty percent of all males died in the war. That s from one country, imagine how many innocent lives were taken during the war. All because of one man, Adolf Hitler. The war stemmed off in early 1939 when German dictator Adolf Hitler had intentions of invading Poland. Poland knew about this, so they went to France and Britain for an alliance should Germany invade them. When Germany heard about this, they decided it would be good to take out the Soviets because they didn t know if they would fight on Poland s side or not. First of all, we already have a firm scientific basis by which to assess the effect it has on the development of biology. For example, Darwinian science makes it clear that environment provides the driving force over long periods of time, longer than recorded of human cultural history. Darwin s legendary Galapagos finches, with their beaks each adapted to the differing food sources on different islands, are a perfect example of the sort of determinism that some scholars fallaciously wish to apply to the evolution of culture. • 41. The Media And The Stereotypes Of Women In The Media Every day, millions of Americans view the front covers of magazines like Vogue, Cosmopolitan, and more. They see them while at grocery stores, on the television, and even in the waiting room at a doctor s office. The media offer advertisements with models that are seemingly slim with perfect skin, hair, and teeth. American propaganda leaves most young, adolescent girls between the ages of 5 18 to consider that the complexity of beauty is strict to be thin and perfect, though it is targeted to young adolescents, it does aim towards older femaleand male age ranges as well. An article states, While the media attempt to target every person, the level of exposure is dictated by gender, and the majority of harmful messages is focused more toward women. For instance, in media such as magazines where a person relies on an image to relate a feeling, girls are often made to look inferior (Chapman). The boys ignore the task and become preoccupied with hunting, swimming and eating, leaving the huts unfinished and rank. Therefore, the neglecting of the shelters is an example of the deterioration of rules in the novel. Deterioration is also shown when Jack alters the use of fire. The rule that Ralph, the leader, makes at the beginning of the novel is that Jack and the other choir boys have a duty to keep the signal fire going at all times. When a ship passes, Ralph is enraged to find that Jack let the fire burn out; Jack breaks his promise and the rule. As a result, the boys on the island are unnoticed and fail to be rescued by the ship; there is no fire smoke to signal it. Although the intentions of the fire are good, Jack causes chaos when he uses it against Ralph. At the end of the novel Jack sets the whole island on fire in order to kill Ralph. quot; They had smoked him out and set the whole island on fire quot; (Golding, p.197). The fire that at one point symbolizes hope, has now turned to destruction. When the savage instincts are controlled by civilization it leads to good, but when they are out of control it leads to evil. Thus, Jack abuses the advantage of fire and his actions contribute the deterioration of rules. The final, and perhaps the most ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 48. Vulnerability And Risk Of Poor Health INTRODUCTION Everyone is potentially vulnerable at some point over the extent of one s lifetime. More specifically, everyone is potentially at risk of poor physical, psychological, or social health. The word vulnerable is defined by the Merrian Webster s Dictionary as capable of being physically wounded or open to attack or damage . Commonly, the word vulnerability indicates one s susceptibility to health problems, harm or neglect. Some however, maybe more or less susceptible or at risk of poor health at different times in their lives, while certain individuals and communities are more likely to be at risk than others at any given point in time (Aday, 1994). Thus, vulnerable populations may be defined as social groups with an increased susceptibility to adverse health outcomes (Flaskerud Winslow, 1998). A fundamental component to the definition of vulnerability is the concept of risk, or the relative probability that an individual may become ill within a given period of time (Aday, 1994). Community and individual characteristics are risk factors predictive of the incidence of vulnerability. Risk factors, for example smoking or lead exposure, are attributes that are related to increases in the probability of occurrence of health related outcomes (Aday, 1998). Evidence of differences in vulnerability or increased risk, which lead to negative health outcomes include: premature mortality, comparative morbidity, decreased functional and mental status, decreased ability to ... • 50. Rhetorical Analysis Of Barrack Obama s Met Barack Obama July 27, 2004, was the night America met Barack Obama. This was the night that Obama, a member of the Illinois Senate at the time, spoke as the keynote speaker at the Democratic National Convention. Obama is widely known for his and grand speeches that bring tears of hope and joy to many Americans eyes. To be able to produce such strong emotions, a speaker must put forth a speech that has all aspects of The Rhetoric, Ethos, pathos, logos, and the five canons, as a well as use another theory called Narrative Paradigm to register with the audience. Barrack Obama s 2004 DNC speech become widely successful as it created hope and national unity throughout Americas with the help of Obama s use of The Rhetoric and Narrative Paradigm Theory. The Rhetoric is a theory created by Aristotle; can be defined by Aristotle himself as an ability, in each particular case, to see the available means of persuasion . This theory holds three proofs to its name, ethos, pathos, and logos. The key to a successful speech is holding all three of these proofs in the work. Ethos is the character and credibility that the speaker holds. Pathos is what kind of emotional connection the speaker makes with the audience. And Logos is how clear and rational the speaker s argument is (Wenzel, 2017). Obama has all three proofs represented in his speech. Obama s Ethos or his credibility comes from the fact that he was chosen as the keynote speaker at the DNC. While at the time he was a not widely known politician, the fact that he was picked by presidential nominee, John Kerry. The way Obama carries himself with pride and confidence; leading the audience to believe that he truly is just that. If Obama made this same exact speech on the street people would not give him one minuet of their time but because the DNC is a huge event held for the presidential elections, that automatically gives him creditability. Obama uses pathos by telling the story of his parents growing up. He tells the audience about how his father grew up in rural Kenya, herding goats, and eventually worked his way to a scholarship in a magical place: America (Obama, 2004). He goes on to tell the story of his mother and how she grew up in America with a military father and a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Choudhary states: The major feature of this kind of fiction lies in the subversion of the assumptions and generic traits and function of fiction, including modernist novel. Generically postmodernist fiction is self questioning in nature, skeptical about its possibilities, rules and principles. Its function is disillusionary; it dives into the underside of fiction and explodes its fallacies...Postmodernist text directs itself to the suspension of meaning by using disruptive narrative, polyphony, multiple ending and the like thereby frustrating intelligibility. It is devoid of teleology and causality (12). Some critics are of the view that postmodern fictions do not convey any moral values and imparts untrue elements. In a postmodern word, literature is just another text. • 52. The Effects Of Bordetella Pertussis On An Acute... Introduction Bordetella pertussis (known as whooping cough) was discovered by Bordet and Gengou as an acute respiratory tract infection. (1 2) The highly contagious B. pertussis is a strictly aerobic gram negative coccobacillus that grows best between 35 37 ВєC, and is transmitted through inhalation of aerosol droplets. It is one of ten known Bordetella species, and accounts for 50 million cases annually, in which 300,000 of them result in death. (1 3) Pathogenesis There are four stages in B. pertussis infection. The first stage is attachment. Filamentous hemagglutinin (FHA), a type of protein, along with fimbrae (FIM), a cell surface structure, serve as major adhesins (for adhesion) for pertussis. (1) They firstly attach to ciliated epithelial cells in the nasopharynx, and then begin to multiply. (4) The second stage is evasion of host defenses. Pertussis uses adenylate cyclase toxin (ACT) and pertussis toxin (PT), a complex bacterial toxin, to evade host defenses. ACT inhibits the motility and activation of phagocytes and T lymphocytes, while PT targets the lung s immune system. This prevents neutrophils from reaching the respiratory tract quickly, and also promotes the infection through macrophages. PT also causes lymphocytosis, which is an influx of lymphocytes in the blood. (1 2) The third stage is local damage. Pulmonary lesions, necrosis, and peeling of ciliated bronchial epithelium occurs. This is accomplished by tracheal cytoxin (TCT) and dermonecrotic toxins, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. Australia And The United States Australia and the United States of America are two modern, democratic, English speaking countries both initially settled by the British. Captain James Cook led a fleet of settlers and convicts into the Botany Bay in Australia in 1788. The United States declared its Independence in 1776, and fought a war with the British to obtain that independence. Australia began with a central government, then the states came about and, lastly, local governments came into being (Australia.gov.au, 2014). It was opposite for the U.S. Communities combined into territories and states, which eventually became the Unites States. Both Australia and the United Stateslook as if to have similar systems of government at first glance. They are both federated nations, which means that the power to govern is shared between national and state governments. Both systems are bicameral, consisting of two chambers, with an elected House of Representatives and Senate. However, Australia is a constitutional monarchy and the U.S. is a republic. The similarities and differences between the two systems can be seen in their structure, their Constitutions, their elections of the heads of state, and their legislature.
