Analysis Of The Book Memoirs Of A Geisha
Memoirs of a Geisha is a beautiful work of meta fiction; where the author implements an
autobiographical approach and fabricates a fictional translator who is supposedly a friend of
the protagonist in the book; Nitta Sayuri a geisha or Geiko of Kyoto, Japan. Here Golden gives
an unusual frame to the storytelling through the voice of the translator Jacob and how Jacob
documents Sayuri s oral narration about the fascinating life she has had as a Kyoto Geisha. This
biographical approach gives the story yet more believable and also can leave the readers
confused between fantasy and reality. The story is set in a period in Japan; which is almost
forgotten today. It s a chronicle about the life of a Geisha; which in Japanese stands for person of...

Chiyo was scared as well as fascinated by the prospect of becoming a Geisha, with the wit of a 9
year old girl. There, she meets a man who was addressed as the chairman , who she immediately
starts to admire and since then she becomes devoted to that man. Later on, after many ups and
downs, she masters the art of becoming an astounding geisha; capable of making men fall in
love with just a single look, which makes her mizuage or virginity most expansive in Gion and
finally a high paying patron buys this privilege when she was 15 years old. After a few
escapades in the company of some most undesirable patrons, she finally becomes the mistress of
the man she had set her heart on all along, the benevolent chairman. In her life as a geisha and
before that; with her little expectation for happiness; this makes her as happy as she could be.
This is the man who stayed with her till his death in Manhattan, U.S, where he helps her set up
her own tea house who became a hub for the intellectuals, artists and businessman all over from
Japan and also U.S till her demise. FROM THE READER S PERSPECTIVE Beneath the layer of
a romantic memoire, this book actually unveils the history of a patriarchal time period and its
impact throughout the life of a little girl. The author carefully wraps the truth about why Mr Tanaka
could only choose being Geisha or a prostitute as only suitable employment for Chiyo and her sister,
rather than some other helper job at his company. Ultimately, a

Spread Of Deforestation And Wildfires In The Amazon
Deforestation and Wildfires
When it comes to deforestation, the paving of the Trans Amazonian highway is a two sided coin.
While the increased accessibility could lead to more effective environmental protection, it may also
permit more illegal logging. When the highway was first constructed, spells of deforestation lead to
25,000 square kilometers of forest clear cut per year (that s the size of New Jersey, every year).
95% of this deforestation happened within 7 kilometers of a road (Frasier 2014). In Madre de Dios,
before the road was paved, tall trees used to line the highway. Now, the forest is cut back half a
kilometer on both sides. Tree damage in the Xingu region were 4 times higher than average in
2007 (Frasier 2014). Once road paving ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While President Dilma has said she is committed to protecting the rainforest, her actions have
shown otherwise. She has made protected regions smaller, weakened environmental laws, and
shrunk national monitoring of the forest (Miller 2012). Just a couple of these protected areas have
plans for proper management. This neglect is clearly demonstrated in the rise of deforestation by
both agricultural and agro extractive operations despite the federal limit. For instance, agricultural
settlements in Acre, Brazil have a 20% deforestation limit, however deforestation rose from 41%
in 2005 to 57% in 2010 (Perz 2013). Even when rules have been solidified, weakness in government

The War of 1812
In this essay I will be discussing the major events and battles that took place during the War of
1812. It started in 1812 and lasted until the spring of 1815. There were three main causes for the
war taking place, America trading with parts of Europe(France), the Impressment, and the possible
desire on the part of the United States to annex Canada, The War of 1812 ended as a stalemate in
the spring of 1815. The War of 1812 was a war that never should have been fought.

America hated this because the British were literally taking american people and making them fight
for someone else.
Why did America want to annex Canada
America wanted to annex Canada because it had a lot of resources that America would have loved
to get there hands on the great amount of resources that America could have used. America also
wanted to annex canada because it would have been a huge amount of territory gain for america
and it would have made America a super country, it would have been a metaphorical spit in the face
to Great Britain.
How did the war end?
The war of 1812 ended as a stalemate in 1814 when the downfall of Napoleon allowed the British to
distribute more military resources to the war, Washington D.C., fell to the British in August. While
In Washington, British troops burned the White House down, and other buildings in retaliation for
the earlier burning of government buildings in Canada by the US soldiers. The British soon
retreated, and Fort McHenry in Baltimore harbor withstood a massive British continuous attack and

The Five Approaches And Models Of Consumer Behavior Theory
Consumer behavior theory which is also called utility theory. It is the theory which focus on
studying different groups of consumers decisions of selecting, purchasing, using, disposing various
products(Solomon, Bamossy et al., 2006; Schiffman ANDKanuk 2007). According to Bray, J. P. s
(2008)article which relates to the approaches and models of consumer behavior theory, it is said
that there are five theoretical approaches which would study consumer behavior theory, including
economic man, psychodynamic, behaviorist, cognitive and humanistic.
Economic man which explains that men would maximize the utility by using minimum effort based
on the indicators of cardinal usefulness. For human beings, when they make a decision, they would
consider kinds of aspects before the action, they may think about their own preferences, self
economy condition, the quality and the price of the product, and also the age, they would think
whether it is suitable for them etc and finally make a best choice. However, Psychodynamic is quite
different from the economic man, it is another factor which is influenced by consumers mentalities
rather than the external environment. The willingness of customers decision is from the depth of
their heart not someone else. Behaviorist is the opposition of ... Show more content on

The Ending to Eugene O Neil s Long Day s Journey Into Night It is understandable that so many
people in our class did not find the last act of Eugene O Neill s Long Day s Journey Into Night a
satisfying one; there is no tidy ending, no goodbye kisses or murder confessions; none of the
charaters leave the stage with flowers in their hands or with smiles on their faces and none of the
characters give explanatory monologues after the curtain falls, as we ve become accustomed to by
reading so much Shakespeare. O Neill, though, isn t Shakespeare and Long Days Journey Into

Even Jamie, who is berated time and time again for his loose tongue, stammers, as he has things
that he has left unsaid and that no one is really aware. In many ways, the first three acts of the
play are little more than just this four characters stammering, letting emotions build themselves
up inside of them; the first three acts are a prelude to the drama that unfolds in the final act of
the play. In the beginnings of the play we are given the extreme circumstances surrounding the
family that day: Edmund is to be diagnosed with consumption, Mary is to fall deeper and deeper
into an addiction from which she supposedly recovered, and each of the characters is to unravel
under the strain that all the stammering has placed upon them. We are given the impression that
the events of the fourth act has never happened before; for example, even though he has lived
with his father for more than twenty years, Edmund has never heard him speak the way he speaks
to him in his final act, when his father tells him of how miserable he is now and how he was so
muh happier as a struggling, young actor than as a commerial success. Up until the final act,
Edmund has gone with Jamie and fancied Tyrone as little

Symbolism In Hester s Hypocrisy
The actions of a religion or cult contribute to their outer appearance. In this case, the actions of the
Puritan religion contribute to their hypocrisy through Hester s A. This is shown Through the
symbolism of the A, how the A was supposed to make her an outcast, and Hester s social status
despite the symbolism of the A. Before the effect of the A can be analyzed, the A s meaning needs
to be explained. Obviously, the A embodies the scorn of the town, as it wouldn t have been used as
Hester s punishment if it doesn t show the colonist s disdain. However, the A embodies so much
more than that. The events leading up to Hester s punishment, meaning Hester sleeping with
Dimmesdale, were born from passionate emotions such as love, happiness

Beautiful Music of the Middle Ages
Beautiful music is the art of the prophets that can calm the agitations of the soul, it is one of the
most magnificent and delightful presents God has given us Martin Luther. Music was a part of
life then and it is a part of life today. Without music, life itself would be a mistake. Seeing the
changes over the years is a great way to follow the patterns and differences this way of
communicating has shown us. Some of the more popular music was the Gregorian Chant, Organum,
Motet and Madrigal.
In the early Middle Ages around 590 ACE the Gregorian Chant was popularized by Pope Gregory
the Fourth. The Gregorian Chant was a form of monophonic tune of the Roman Catholic Church
(Music Through the Ages). Monophonic is a musical style employing a single melodic line without
accompaniment. This style was oral by tradition and only served as a memory aid for a singer who
already knew the melody (http://en.wikipedia.org). Memorizing is a difficult task, it is even harder
to memorize music that was taught to them orally. Gregorian melodies are traditionally written
using neumes, an early form of musical notation (http://www.britannica.com). These neumes later
formed the modern four and five line staff development. Being a monophonic tune the Gregorian
Chant was losing interest and a new style was born.
In the Musica Enchiriadis musical handbook , Organum consisted of two melodic lines moving
simultaneously note against note. Organum changed the way of music for the medieval people;

Michael Ignatieff s One Country Saved Its Jews
Even though France s officials didn t help save them, there were other European countries that
protected their Jewish population from the Nazis, such as Denmark. During WWII, Denmark was
occupied by Nazi Germany in 1940. During this time, while the Nazis tried to round up Danish
Jews to send them to concentration camps, there was considerable opposition to the action. In his
article, One Country Saved Its Jews. Were They Just Better People?, Michael Ignatieff maintains
that When, in October 1943, the Gestapo came to round up the 7,500 Jews of Copenhagen, the
Danish police did not help them to smash down the doors. The churches read letters of protest to
their congregations. Neighbors helped families to flee to villages on the Baltic coast, where local

Neighbors didn t betray them and instead helped them escape and others would provide housing
for the night after running away from the Nazis. Ignatieff mentions the reasons why only Denmark
would protect their Jews when occupied when France gave their Jews willingly. The king of
Denmark promised collaboration with the Nazis, so their relationship between the Nazis was
uneasy, but cooperative. In the same way, the Nazis in turn left their government untouched as
Ignatieff states in the text, The Germans, for their part, put up with this frigid relationship: they
needed Danish food, and Danish cooperation freed up German military resources for battle on the
Eastern Front, and the Nazis wanted to be liked. They wanted their cooperative relationship with
Denmark to serve as a model for a future European community under Hitler s domination. This
means it was because of these reasons that the king, the Orthodox Church, and a few key Denmark
politicians were able to threaten the Nazis when they tried to round up the Jews, because they were
able to threaten to stop their compromise if they took the Jews in

Ten Reasons Why Biotechnology Will Not Ensure Food Security, Protect the Environment and
Reduce Poverty in the Developing World
An article written by Miguel A. Altieri and Peter Rosset (1999) addresses certain potential issues
and misconceptions about biotechnology. For instance, this article suggests that biotechnology will
not ensure food security, protect the environment, and will not reduce poverty in the developing
world.
The article points out that there is no relationship between a hungry country and its population,
and that the world produces more food than ever before. The real cause of hunger is not the lack
of food but the lack of resources to buy it and the lack of land for people to grow their own food.
New improvements in biotechnology will not reduce hunger as the vast majority of improvements
in biotechnology have been created not because companies want to improve the agriculture or
reduce hunger, but because they want to make a profit. An example provided says that new
biotechnical innovations increase expenses per acre for seeds plus chemicals, which results in a
lower return to the growers growers are spending more than what they making. Discount packages
are offered by biotechnology companies, but only when purchasing technology packages.
Additionally, recent studies have shown that genetic engineered seeds do not increase the yield of
the crops. In 1998 a study conducted by the USDA

Aid allocations need to increase if meaningful solutions are to occur. Making the rural poor
involved in empowerment and participatory programs is hard to achieve due to their social
exclusion. The gap between the poor in rural areas and those who are more wealthy is large and
widening Because the rural poor are socially excluded, often development organisations such as the
World Bank think of the poor are ignorant and complacent. More often they are not excluded from
participating in projects in a meaningful way, due to pre existing biased views that they are not
worthy, or indeed, have the skills to participate effectively. (Courtney et all in Godinot and Wodon
(ed). 2006. 3). Lack of empowerment amongst rural people leads to their vulnerability and thus
most development projects tend to benefit the benefactors rather than the beneficiaries. In light of
this sustainable development is not achieved because non participation of local people means that
rural development is not self sustaining. Therefore, local rural people play an important role in rural
development because they understand their situation and problems better than the government, aid
agencies and other stakeholders. This highlights the gap between the reality and ideal of
empowerment and participatory development where the poor themselves are considered the centre
of the process and the most vital players. Rural areas in developing countries

Employees Should Be Submitted For Permanent Layoff
In this particular group project, we need to come up with a proposal and a decision on which
two employees should be submitted for permanent layoff. It was painful decision who should
go. As these approaches are painful to staff involved. Not only workers are laid off, but layers of
management can be collapsed, resulting in new management structures. We must be careful
with the decisions of layoffs, as it could lead to poor morale. Total of five employees have been
assigned for our group proposal, and each employee has been given brief information about their
background. As our group discussion took part, we all started to do our self evaluations about
each employee using his/her background information. As we have decided all will be examined
based on their performances. After the meeting it is imperative that decision reached on the
persons to be laid off must be in writing and mailed confidentially to keep all information
classified. As I read through each employee s background, I decided to specify their advantages
and disadvantages by sorting them into pros and cons. I then evaluated and concluded my
perspective of each individual. As we evaluated each employee, we collectively decided to let go
of Donovan Taylor and Gabriella Santana. Some of the things we looked into before making the
decision were the employees evaluations, education, experiences, and how they contributed to the
company. When it came to Donovan Taylor, it was obvious that he has been with the

Andrew Carnegie s Impact On The Industrial Revolution
In the movie, The Richest Man in the World, Andrew Carnegie played a major role in influencing
the Industrial Revolution, which changed the economy of the US and the world forever. This era
brought upon significant changes through economic developments that would not only change the
ways of the economy but also the social aspect of society, especially within the cities where this
growth was located. The shift from hand made to machine made products increased productivity
and decreased costs. Through the innovations of the new forms of energy, such as iron, and then
steel, establishments of factories began, competition between businessmen arose, and innovations
of transportation in the city through railroads and bridges developed. The... Show more content on

It also made production easier, faster, and cheaper since workers made an abundant of products
within a short amount of time. Mass production in factories was possible because of the invention
of machineries, leading to products being made without costing businesses as much money
compared to if the products were hand made. Because products were made in factories, this also
caused retail prices of the products to decrease while there was always accessibility for the
supplies. The establishment of large corporations replaced small businesses, which was good news
for the wealthy but bad news for individuals who owned their own small stores.
On the other hand, because of the establishment of factories by businessmen, the workers lives
became hard as they faced unfair working conditions in dirty and small working places. They
worked long hours with no break. The machines used in factories were also very dangerous and led
to workers enduring injuries. Unskilled labor did not even require training. During the Industrial
Revolution, child labor became common since it was cheaper to have children working. Instead
of earning an education, children started working as early as 8 years old. Also, factories produced
pollution within the cities because of all the coal that was being used for power, leading smoke to
contaminate the air. People became sick and even

Feminist Theology
Feminist Theology
Feminist theology is based on the idea of not lord but brother . Jesus Christ himself stepped
outside of societies norms by befriending the outcasts of society, which included women. Women
are often portrayed as the cause of or focus of evil and misdeeds in the bible. The focus of feminist
theology is the perspective of theology from those who were outcast and therefore considered
themselves as equals and friends to Jesus Christ. If there is anything they desire to know, let
them ask their husbands. For it is shameful for a woman to speak in church. (1 Cor.14:33 35)
Feminist theologians are logical and educated with their approach to the view of the Lord as an
equal who is to be believed in and epitomized ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Holy Spirit itself seems to have a feminine quality to its nature. The mystery of the Trinity is
by no means that simple. But the fact that it is a mystery would indicate that it is presumptive to
assume that any part of the Trinity other than Jesus is either male or female. The significance of
Jesus is not his maleness but his humanness. In the movie, The DaVinci Code, (although many
liberties are taken with the biblical basis and texts), there is a very real focus on the feminine idea
behind Christianity. What if women were supposed to carry on the Christian tradition and the
church? This idea shakes the very foundation of early and modern Christianity to the core. The
Bible itself was written by men, the Council at Nicaea was attended by men, is it so far fetched
that maybe the men got it wrong? This idea is radical but has an affect on the feminist
perspective that is found in several sources of research. There are several ideas from a feminine
point of view that even change the focus of Jesus as simply a man.
There is much feminist imagery related to Jesus as well. He gave birth to humanity through his
death. This birth language is feminine and using maternal images to describe the life, teachings and
sufferings of Jesus is powerful indeed. It has the potential to link inevitable stereotypes for woman
to be mothers and nothing else but women in the church have left their mark

High Intensity Training (HIIT)
Gone are the days of spending hours on a treadmill to slim down and get healthy. People today
want their exercise programs to be shorter, more interesting, and offer better results. Enter programs
like CrossFit and P90x.
CrossFit and P90x implement a new type of exercise called high intensity interval training (HIIT).
What s exciting about HIIT is that it s been found to be more effective for weight loss and managing
type 2 diabetes.
What Is HIIT Exactly?
HIIT has been getting a lot of attention in the clinical and scientific communities because of its
ability to significantly improve various components of cardiometabolic health. That sounds great,
but what IS the exercise exactly?
HIIT exercises like CrossFit involve alternating between vary vigorous exercises and periods of
rest and recovery. Research studies have taken a look at various HIIT protocols, each involving
different intensity levels and durations of these levels as well as the rest periods. Suffice it to say,
trying to compare different HIIT workouts can prove quite challenging. But what scientists can
readily determine is that the inherent on off pattern of HIIT protocols allows individuals to give it
their all during the intense part because they have the ability to take much needed breaks. For this
reason, HIIT programs are considered ideal for individuals who are unfit or unaccustomed to
vigorous physical activity. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Studies had found that HIIT benefitted those with heart disease and high blood pressure. However,

Personality FRQ 1. Psychoanalytic According to Freud, I have an oral fixation that troubles my
personality. This is due to the fact that I have a nervous habit of biting my nails and enjoy

because I was either not fed enough, was fed to much, or not breastfed at all. Ultimately, due to
me having an issue when I was breastfed now causes me to be orally fixated and is the driving
force behind me biting my nails and chewing gum. 2. Neo Freudians According to Erik Erikson s

The 2011 London riots had many implications for society especially for young people; this essay
seeks to analytically and critically discuss young offenders involved, using social exclusion and
social justice as the main focus. This piece of work will briefly look at the historical context of
social exclusion and social justice to create a platform, it will then move on to theoretical principles
which offer an understanding of social exclusion and social justice. The implications of social
exclusion and social justice for the young offenders involved in the 2011 London riots, such as an
increased number of young people out of education, increase in youth unemployment and increase

Social exclusion has made major influence on politics from the late 1990s (Stephenson 2007).
SecrГ©taire d Etat a l Action sociale of the French government, RenГ© Lenoir is said to have
used the term social exclusion in publications over twenty five years ago. Since then has had a
major impact on explanations of individuals who feel separated from society especially through
poverty and deprivation (Sen, 2000). Silver (1995) also suggests that individuals who feel
socially excluded may be lacking of basic needs of livelihood and but not limited to, participating
in democratic agendas. The term Social Justice can be traced back to the twentieth century where
the pursuit began by individuals, communities and societies, some argue that perhaps the fight for
social justice maybe ending (Miller, 1999). Robert Merton s work had major influence on the
school of functionalism, especially in America during the 1940s and 1950s especially as
functionalism was mainly concerned with social order (Tierney, 1996). Merton s focus was crime
and deviance even though he was not a criminologist; his ideas were first published in 1993 in an
article titled Social structure and anomie which illustrated his connection to Durkheim. A book
called Social theory and social structure was later published which discussed strain theory, the first
attempt to answer the prominent question of how society impacts individuals to act in a deviant
/ criminal manner.

Aboriginal Education Problem Analysis
Context and importance of the problem
The Aboriginal people of Canada are suffering due to poverty and the lack of education is
one of the major reasons for that. The Aboriginal Educational Society of Canada believes that the
Canadian government needs to increase the funding for Aboriginals in secondary and post
secondary because many do not get the opportunity to pursue an education due to lack of
funding. They Canadian government also needs to start teaching kindergarten to grade 12 about
Aboriginal history as it is important to Canadian culture. The root cause of this problem is that
Aboriginal children are failing to develop a sense of identity through residential school curricula.
The curriculum barely portrays their true ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is because much of Canadian society lacks
the knowledge of Aboriginal history, and it is important to learn about it as it IS Canadian
history. A step by step process would be to first implement a curriculum on young children in
schools. A good way to get them interested would be to have picture books that explain the
history of the Aboriginal people of Canada.9 The easiest way to learn something is when you are
young, so focusing on the younger generation as a stepping stone will set the tone for the
future.10 After this slowly work up to the higher grades, until eventually reaching post secondary
where students may study and earn degrees on Aboriginal studies. The history of Canada is
something that is seemed to be known so much about; however the Aboriginals and their
contributions are ignored too often.11 The Aboriginal peoples of Canada and the history that

Harry S. Truman For Defeating Japan s Barbaric Regime And...
When faced with the prospect of killing a few to save many, it may be difficult to discern
whether doing so would be moral or not. However, when Harry S. Truman was forced to decide
whether or not to drop the atomic bombs on Japan, the moral choice was clear: dropping the
bombs was the most viable option available that would end World War II, minimize casualties on
both sides of the war, and ensure American victory. Every other option available to Truman
would have resulted in a much greater loss for the people of both Japan and the United States.
While dropping atomic bombs on the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki was undeniably an
atrocity, which resulted in over 300,000 casualties, this gruesome attack was the most ethical
option available to Harry S. Truman for defeating Japan s barbaric regime and ending the
bloodiest war in human history. The successful air raids conducted by the United States that have
been described as an alternative to dropping atomic bombs on Japan were not only far more
destructive, they may not have ended the war at all. By 1945, most of Japan s major military and
industrial bases had been destroyed: nearly all major cities had also been wiped out. Japan had little
left to defend; however, the military and state officials refused to surrender. Unfortunately, a
majority of Japanese manufacturing was conducted in small workshops and private homes, which
led to targeted attacks that wiped out mostly civilian populations. The American Airforce

Computers and the Many Benefits
Computers and the Many Benefits Computers play a huge part in many all of our lives in one
way or another. They have many purposes and are used in various types of environments, such
as medical facilities, government offices, and many households. They also are the reason we are
able to surf the internet, watch animated television shows and see movies with special graphics.
Computers have impacted our lives in many ways. You may not notice it but they did make life a
lot easier. Without computers, the world would be a harder place to live in. Thanks to computers,
everyday life is easier for us. Some people may disagree but most wouldn t. Computers have made

Crimes are now being solved with the help of computers and at a higher rate.
Movies with special effects are made with computers. Most of the movies today use computers to
make things look realistic but they are not. For instance the movie CARS an animated movie
would not be here today if computers where not around. Imagine not be able to see television
shows that entertain us simply because of the graphics used. The graphics used entice us into
show because it make the show a lot realer then they are. Almost all movies have special effects
and those special effects are made by computers.
Computers are here to stay and things will only get better, because they are here to make
everyday task simpler. Since computers we have been able to cure diseases, find people and help
stay connected to family and friends aboard. As Kinsley s said, Home computers [В…] the internet
have expanded human freedom (559). We are able to do so much more with our daily task and
with our personal lives because of computers.

The Vs. Static Budgeting Essay
When we compare the static budget with the actual results, there has been a decrease of 2000
cart rentals, which cause $50,000 unfavorable variance. Moreover, there is an unfavorable
variance of $200 from the static budget and this is due to the increase in the Labor cost. But
when it comes to the gas and oil there has been a decrease, which cause $1100 favorable
variance. So the difference between the actual operating profits and the static budgeting for April
is $49100 ($50,000U + $200U $1100F). In my opinion almost of all the differences between the
actual operating profits and the static budgeting for April is due to the reduced cart rentals from
6000 to 4000. When we compare the flexible budgetwith the actual results, there is an unfavorable
variance of $200, this is due to the increase in the Labor cost and also there is an unfavorable
variance of $900 from the flexible budget and this is because gas and oil were over the budget. In
the case of flexible budget, labor, gas and oil were over the budget which cause unfavorable
variance of $1100 ($200 + $900). The $200 unfavorable variance in labor is probably insignificant
and the $900 gas and oil difference is likely a timing difference between when the gas and oil are
purchased and when they are actually used.

How Did Donatello Influence The Italian Renaissance
The Italian Renaissance was a marvelous time period. During this time, many new artists emerged.
The Florentine sculptor named Donatello was a marvelous sculptor to walk planet earth. Through
the sculptural advancements in the use of human anatomy, Donatello created the sculptural
influence during the Renaissance. Many would say that Donatellowas unquestionably one of the
key figures in Italian Renaissance history. Donatello significantly reinvented the meaning of
sculpture during his the Italian Renaissance. These influences were carried on through the
generations and are still seen in many sculptures created today. In lesser detail, the way Donatello
used human anatomy, perspective, and realism in his work was like no other at the time,
Donatello worked with a variety of materials, but Donatello s profound knowledge laid in the

people that paying attention to human realism and human anatomy when creating a sculptor is
important because it creates a fine aspect of the art. To this day, many people look up to
Donatello s style of techniques and use his techniques because Donatello s techniques were simply

Why Is Abu Ghraib Cruel
Abu Ghraib is Not Yet in the Grave According to jail time served by prisoners, it is less
punishable to abuse foreign prisoners than it is to deal drugs. The average time served by the
eleven offenders involved during the Abu Ghraib scandal was 13.1 months, compared to the
average of five years for drug dealers (CNN Library). Only five out of the eleven people directly
involved actually served time at all, with the most time served being 6 years out of an original 10
year sentence. So instead of dealing that heroin, maybe you could torture and humiliate soldiers, if
you re looking to serve less time in jail. The ghastly events at the Abu Ghraib prisonoccurred
throughout 2003, but the American public did not find out until the broadcast of 60 Minutes II in
April of 2004. The photographs released include images of dogs attacking prisoners, soldiers giving
the thumbs up sign as they appear to stitch prisoners wounds, prisoners positioned in humiliating

No great mind has ever existed without a touch of madness this quote is said to be from Aristotle.
The mind is one of the most complex parts of our bodies and even today, 1,694 years after

One of the most famous author s known for writing about madness is Edgar Allan Poe. Well known
for his short stories that depicts horror, madness, and mystery. Mr. Poe has a unique writing that

his life. He had never known his father and his mother died when he was three; he was then

poetic musings on the backs of Mr. Allan s business papers. Once grown Edgar went into the
military, shortly after he became court martialed, which led to Edgar becoming a full time writer.

Differences Between Fashion And Fashion
The history of clothing dates back from the beginning of the human race, which is around 4026
B.C. You may wonder, what s the difference between fashion and clothing? Clothing is just
something to cover the body, but fashion is so much more. Fashion represents an individual and
can be a beautiful piece of art. Fashionchanges with society and is usually a very popular trend
that many people at a time follow. For this reason, the art of fashion diffused in Europe in 400
C.E. Before 400 C.E. Western Europe was under Barbarian control, consequently, Eastern Europe
and parts of Asia flourished in fashion. Dress in the Byzantium Empire (what is now Istanbul,
Turkey) was a blend of Roman and Eastern Asian styles. The Eastern Asian style contributed many
elaborate ornaments and silk. This diffused into Rome through the new fashion trends relating to
embroidery and woven designs found in short tunics and elaborate outer garments. These styles of
the Byzantine court continued to influence all the courts of Western Europe from about 400 to
900 C.E. up until the European economy began to recover, and Western Europe gained
independence from previous Barbarian control. In this span of 500 years, the development of
fashion in Europe was somewhat obscure. This was because 400 to 900 C.E. was know as the
dark ages, after the fall of the Roman Empire. We ll skim over the dark ages, since men and women
s fashion remained pretty basic and constant throughout that time. Women s and men s

Spiritism is also one of the significant, although minor, religions in Brazil. Spiritistic practices are

benefits averaged out to just $392 per household in 2010. And again, these benefits are only
available for 5 years throughout a person s lifetime. That isn t exactly enough to break the
budget of the largest economy in the world. He also explains what the bigger portion of the tax

the fossil fuel industry, too big to fail banks, performance based bonuses for corporate CEOs,

Female Empowerment in the Color Purple
In The Color Purple, Alice Walker illustrates the lives of a female African American before the Civil
Rights Movement. A novel that describes female empowerment, The Color Purple demonstrates the
domestic violence women faced in the South. Walker tells the story through Celie, a young African
American girl who faces constant hardships until she stands up for herself with the help of her
closest friends other women undergoing the same difficulties. Even though men controlled females
in the South, the author emphasizes the strength of female empowerment because females
struggled to survive during this time. Told through a series of letters to God, Celie shares her story.

Told repeatedly that she is ugly and stupid, she hardly knows better (Cheung 165). Cheung
understands Celie to believe lies told to her face about herself, causing her to have no voice in
her own life. New in Mr. ___________ s house, Celie is constantly beaten for not doing exactly
everything that her husband demands of her. In a letter to God, Celie recalls, Harpo ast his
daddy why he beat me. Mr. ___________ say, Cause she my wife. Plus, she stubborn. All women
good for he don t finish. He just tuck his chin over the paper like he do. Remind me of Pa (22).
Celie lives in a house where getting beaten is the normal thing, she does everything that is asked
of her and more, and it is still not enough for Mr. ___________. Also, Celie mentions that it
reminds her of her Pa , which means that she faced this type of torture for her entire life. Walker
highlights the fact that Celie needs someone else to survive, her undeserving husband will not be
enough to make Celie want to survive and go on. Walker inserts Sofia, the character that every
female wishes to be more like. Sofia represents the unthinkable in The Color Purple. In this time, no
women could imagine standing up to their husband, but Sofia knows no other way. Sofia
symbolizes everything Celie aspires to be, but just needs the courage to stand up and be that
person. In another letter to God, Celie says, Harpo want to know what to do to make Sofia mind.

Becoming a portrait photographer is one of the toughest tasks a photographer can face. This form of
photography is the most challenging and requires a complete mastering of the art. Now, don t let
this scare you away because if you have the passion and the intent you can overcome anything. It
is always thought that a studio is required for portrait photography. However, it is not true as more
than half of portraits are shot outdoors. Environmental portraits allow you to show the subject as
well as the surroundings. Even if you don t have a great studio you can flourish in the art by
photographing in parks, beaches and open fields.
A best size of a portrait image is the one that can be enlarged to the size of 11x14 inches. If the size
is any smaller, the face of the person will be too small and it will not be considered a portrait.
You have to understand some photography techniques to get on top of the game. You will need the
help of a low ISO, prime lenses, tripods and a mid range DSLR camera.
When shooting in a studio you need to make sure

What Does Hercules Have In Human Strength
Hercules Have you ever wondered what it would be like to have in human strength ? Hercules
(is also known as Heracles) has this strength. He was half man and half god. His father is Zeus,
who is the god of the sky and and ruler of the Olympian gods and his mother is a mortal named
Alcmene. Hercules also has a mother of the gods Hera, who is married to Zeus. He didn t know
he was part god until he had grown into a man. Zeus always watched over his son on earth and
was a proud father. This made Hera despise Hercules over the years. Hera tried all kinds of ways
to kill him, including sending a couple of big snakes into his crib. Hercules crushed the snakes
heads with his bare hands. He had to deal with much more obstacles during his life. Hercules had to
overcome his unstable emotions, the 12 labors, and his after acceptance quests.... Show more

The Concept Of Madness In Dante s Inferno
Dante as a madman is defined as well as understood as an irrational figure, a figure possessing
qualities that contradict Dante the poet who in turn is rational and calculated through his use of
language within Inferno. The idea of madness can be portrayed in various different ways, one
being to be in a state of madness (a madman), is to be, mentally ill , or otherwise to be someone
that portrays irrationality in their actions (Soanes, Hawker and Elliott 2006). Wilson considers two
such contrasting characteristics (the scholarly poet as well as the irrational madman) to derive from
one Dante Alighieri: the author as well as creator of the Inferno. Such a form of malice can be seen
through the idea of revenge, an intention to harm on a personal level. In the eighth canto through
Dante s encounter with Filippo Argenti, a political figure representing Dante s opposition in
political Florence during the thirteenth century, whom attempts to violently attack Dante... Show

This allows for the interpretation of Dante s repetitive madness to not only rely strictly on the
form of irrationality alone, but rather irrationality as a means to a specific end. As Wilson had
previously mentioned, the presence of both Dante as the vengeful malicious madman , as well as,
Dante the serene scholarly poet allows for the poem to be read in suspense resulting in the
unpredictable turn of events to occur in which Wilson described as the performance of a person
whom suffers from Tourette s: a constant unpredictable change of nature. Wilson further proposed
that, the glorious inconsistencies remain , throughout Dante s work (Wilson 280). In other words,
according to English writer, A. N. Wilson, if Dante were not mad , his writing would be
predictable and

  • 2. Analysis Of The Book Memoirs Of A Geisha Memoirs of a Geisha is a beautiful work of meta fiction; where the author implements an autobiographical approach and fabricates a fictional translator who is supposedly a friend of the protagonist in the book; Nitta Sayuri a geisha or Geiko of Kyoto, Japan. Here Golden gives an unusual frame to the storytelling through the voice of the translator Jacob and how Jacob documents Sayuri s oral narration about the fascinating life she has had as a Kyoto Geisha. This biographical approach gives the story yet more believable and also can leave the readers confused between fantasy and reality. The story is set in a period in Japan; which is almost forgotten today. It s a chronicle about the life of a Geisha; which in Japanese stands for person of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There, she meets a man who was addressed as the chairman , who she immediately starts to admire and since then she becomes devoted to that man. Later on, after many ups and downs, she masters the art of becoming an astounding geisha; capable of making men fall in love with just a single look, which makes her mizuage or virginity most expansive in Gion and finally a high paying patron buys this privilege when she was 15 years old. After a few escapades in the company of some most undesirable patrons, she finally becomes the mistress of the man she had set her heart on all along, the benevolent chairman. In her life as a geisha and before that; with her little expectation for happiness; this makes her as happy as she could be. This is the man who stayed with her till his death in Manhattan, U.S, where he helps her set up her own tea house who became a hub for the intellectuals, artists and businessman all over from Japan and also U.S till her demise. FROM THE READER S PERSPECTIVE Beneath the layer of a romantic memoire, this book actually unveils the history of a patriarchal time period and its impact throughout the life of a little girl. The author carefully wraps the truth about why Mr Tanaka could only choose being Geisha or a prostitute as only suitable employment for Chiyo and her sister, rather than some other helper job at his company. While the increased accessibility could lead to more effective environmental protection, it may also permit more illegal logging. When the highway was first constructed, spells of deforestation lead to 25,000 square kilometers of forest clear cut per year (that s the size of New Jersey, every year). 95% of this deforestation happened within 7 kilometers of a road (Frasier 2014). In Madre de Dios, before the road was paved, tall trees used to line the highway. Now, the forest is cut back half a kilometer on both sides. This neglect is clearly demonstrated in the rise of deforestation by both agricultural and agro extractive operations despite the federal limit. What Are The Causes Of The War Of 1812 Essay Robins, Josh Mr. Sundermeier World Studies 9 April 8. 2016 The War of 1812 In this essay I will be discussing the major events and battles that took place during the War of 1812. It started in 1812 and lasted until the spring of 1815. There were three main causes for the war taking place, America trading with parts of Europe(France), the Impressment, and the possible desire on the part of the United States to annex Canada, The War of 1812 ended as a stalemate in the spring of 1815. It is the theory which focus on studying different groups of consumers decisions of selecting, purchasing, using, disposing various products(Solomon, Bamossy et al., 2006; Schiffman ANDKanuk 2007). According to Bray, J. • 8. Beautiful Music of the Middle Ages Beautiful music is the art of the prophets that can calm the agitations of the soul, it is one of the most magnificent and delightful presents God has given us Martin Luther. Music was a part of life then and it is a part of life today. Without music, life itself would be a mistake. Seeing the changes over the years is a great way to follow the patterns and differences this way of communicating has shown us. Some of the more popular music was the Gregorian Chant, Organum, Motet and Madrigal. In the early Middle Ages around 590 ACE the Gregorian Chant was popularized by Pope Gregory the Fourth. The Gregorian Chant was a form of monophonic tune of the Roman Catholic Church (Music Through the Ages). Monophonic is a musical style employing a single melodic line without accompaniment. This style was oral by tradition and only served as a memory aid for a singer who already knew the melody (http://en.wikipedia.org). Memorizing is a difficult task, it is even harder to memorize music that was taught to them orally. Gregorian melodies are traditionally written using neumes, an early form of musical notation (http://www.britannica.com). These neumes later formed the modern four and five line staff development. Being a monophonic tune the Gregorian Chant was losing interest and a new style was born. In the Musica Enchiriadis musical handbook , Organum consisted of two melodic lines moving simultaneously note against note. Organum changed the way of music for the medieval people; ... In the same way, the Nazis in turn left their government untouched as Ignatieff states in the text, The Germans, for their part, put up with this frigid relationship: they needed Danish food, and Danish cooperation freed up German military resources for battle on the Eastern Front, and the Nazis wanted to be liked. They wanted their cooperative relationship with Denmark to serve as a model for a future European community under Hitler s domination. Pros And Cons Of Biotechnology Martha Zenaidi Ms. Serwin English 103 16 August 2017 Ten Reasons Why Biotechnology Will Not Ensure Food Security, Protect the Environment and Reduce Poverty in the Developing World An article written by Miguel A. Altieri and Peter Rosset (1999) addresses certain potential issues and misconceptions about biotechnology. For instance, this article suggests that biotechnology will not ensure food security, protect the environment, and will not reduce poverty in the developing world. The article points out that there is no relationship between a hungry country and its population, and that the world produces more food than ever before. The real cause of hunger is not the lack of food but the lack of resources to buy it and the lack of land for people to grow their own food. New improvements in biotechnology will not reduce hunger as the vast majority of improvements in biotechnology have been created not because companies want to improve the agriculture or reduce hunger, but because they want to make a profit. An example provided says that new biotechnical innovations increase expenses per acre for seeds plus chemicals, which results in a lower return to the growers growers are spending more than what they making. Discount packages are offered by biotechnology companies, but only when purchasing technology packages. Additionally, recent studies have shown that genetic engineered seeds do not increase the yield of the crops. In 1998 a study conducted by the USDA ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Making the rural poor involved in empowerment and participatory programs is hard to achieve due to their social exclusion. The gap between the poor in rural areas and those who are more wealthy is large and widening Because the rural poor are socially excluded, often development organisations such as the World Bank think of the poor are ignorant and complacent. More often they are not excluded from participating in projects in a meaningful way, due to pre existing biased views that they are not worthy, or indeed, have the skills to participate effectively. (Courtney et all in Godinot and Wodon (ed). 2006. 3). Lack of empowerment amongst rural people leads to their vulnerability and thus most development projects tend to benefit the benefactors rather than the beneficiaries. In light of this sustainable development is not achieved because non participation of local people means that rural development is not self sustaining. Therefore, local rural people play an important role in rural development because they understand their situation and problems better than the government, aid agencies and other stakeholders. This highlights the gap between the reality and ideal of empowerment and participatory development where the poor themselves are considered the centre of the process and the most vital players. It was painful decision who should go. As these approaches are painful to staff involved. Not only workers are laid off, but layers of management can be collapsed, resulting in new management structures. We must be careful with the decisions of layoffs, as it could lead to poor morale. Jesus Christ himself stepped outside of societies norms by befriending the outcasts of society, which included women. Women are often portrayed as the cause of or focus of evil and misdeeds in the bible. The focus of feminist theology is the perspective of theology from those who were outcast and therefore considered themselves as equals and friends to Jesus Christ. If there is anything they desire to know, let them ask their husbands. For it is shameful for a woman to speak in church. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Holy Spirit itself seems to have a feminine quality to its nature. The mystery of the Trinity is by no means that simple. But the fact that it is a mystery would indicate that it is presumptive to assume that any part of the Trinity other than Jesus is either male or female. The significance of Jesus is not his maleness but his humanness. In the movie, The DaVinci Code, (although many liberties are taken with the biblical basis and texts), there is a very real focus on the feminine idea behind Christianity. What if women were supposed to carry on the Christian tradition and the church? This idea shakes the very foundation of early and modern Christianity to the core. The Bible itself was written by men, the Council at Nicaea was attended by men, is it so far fetched that maybe the men got it wrong? This idea is radical but has an affect on the feminist perspective that is found in several sources of research. There are several ideas from a feminine point of view that even change the focus of Jesus as simply a man. There is much feminist imagery related to Jesus as well. He gave birth to humanity through his death. This birth language is feminine and using maternal images to describe the life, teachings and sufferings of Jesus is powerful indeed. What s exciting about HIIT is that it s been found to be more effective for weight loss and managing type 2 diabetes. What Is HIIT Exactly? HIIT has been getting a lot of attention in the clinical and scientific communities because of its ability to significantly improve various components of cardiometabolic health. That sounds great, but what IS the exercise exactly? HIIT exercises like CrossFit involve alternating between vary vigorous exercises and periods of rest and recovery. Research studies have taken a look at various HIIT protocols, each involving different intensity levels and durations of these levels as well as the rest periods. Suffice it to say, trying to compare different HIIT workouts can prove quite challenging. But what scientists can readily determine is that the inherent on off pattern of HIIT protocols allows individuals to give it their all during the intense part because they have the ability to take much needed breaks. The 2011 London riots had many implications for society especially for young people; this essay seeks to analytically and critically discuss young offenders involved, using social exclusion and social justice as the main focus. This piece of work will briefly look at the historical context of social exclusion and social justice to create a platform, it will then move on to theoretical principles which offer an understanding of social exclusion and social justice. SecrГ©taire d Etat a l Action sociale of the French government, RenГ© Lenoir is said to have used the term social exclusion in publications over twenty five years ago. Since then has had a major impact on explanations of individuals who feel separated from society especially through poverty and deprivation (Sen, 2000). Silver (1995) also suggests that individuals who feel socially excluded may be lacking of basic needs of livelihood and but not limited to, participating in democratic agendas. The term Social Justice can be traced back to the twentieth century where the pursuit began by individuals, communities and societies, some argue that perhaps the fight for social justice maybe ending (Miller, 1999). Robert Merton s work had major influence on the school of functionalism, especially in America during the 1940s and 1950s especially as functionalism was mainly concerned with social order (Tierney, 1996). Merton s focus was crime and deviance even though he was not a criminologist; his ideas were first published in 1993 in an article titled Social structure and anomie which illustrated his connection to Durkheim. A book called Social theory and social structure was later published which discussed strain theory, the first attempt to answer the prominent question of how society impacts individuals to act in a deviant / criminal manner. ... However, when Harry S. Truman was forced to decide whether or not to drop the atomic bombs on Japan, the moral choice was clear: dropping the bombs was the most viable option available that would end World War II, minimize casualties on both sides of the war, and ensure American victory. Every other option available to Truman would have resulted in a much greater loss for the people of both Japan and the United States. While dropping atomic bombs on the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki was undeniably an atrocity, which resulted in over 300,000 casualties, this gruesome attack was the most ethical option available to Harry S. Truman for defeating Japan s barbaric regime and ending the bloodiest war in human history. The successful air raids conducted by the United States that have been described as an alternative to dropping atomic bombs on Japan were not only far more destructive, they may not have ended the war at all. By 1945, most of Japan s major military and industrial bases had been destroyed: nearly all major cities had also been wiped out. Japan had little left to defend; however, the military and state officials refused to surrender. Unfortunately, a majority of Japanese manufacturing was conducted in small workshops and private homes, which led to targeted attacks that wiped out mostly civilian populations. Moreover, there is an unfavorable variance of $200 from the static budget and this is due to the increase in the Labor cost. But when it comes to the gas and oil there has been a decrease, which cause $1100 favorable variance. So the difference between the actual operating profits and the static budgeting for April is $49100 ($50,000U + $200U $1100F). In my opinion almost of all the differences between the actual operating profits and the static budgeting for April is due to the reduced cart rentals from 6000 to 4000. When we compare the flexible budgetwith the actual results, there is an unfavorable variance of $200, this is due to the increase in the Labor cost and also there is an unfavorable variance of $900 from the flexible budget and this is because gas and oil were over the budget. In the case of flexible budget, labor, gas and oil were over the budget which cause unfavorable variance of $1100 ($200 + $900). The $200 unfavorable variance in labor is probably insignificant and the $900 gas and oil difference is likely a timing difference between when the gas and oil are purchased and when they are actually used. b. You may wonder, what s the difference between fashion and clothing? Clothing is just something to cover the body, but fashion is so much more. Fashion represents an individual and can be a beautiful piece of art. Fashionchanges with society and is usually a very popular trend that many people at a time follow. For this reason, the art of fashion diffused in Europe in 400 C.E. Before 400 C.E. Western Europe was under Barbarian control, consequently, Eastern Europe and parts of Asia flourished in fashion. Dress in the Byzantium Empire (what is now Istanbul, Turkey) was a blend of Roman and Eastern Asian styles. The Eastern Asian style contributed many elaborate ornaments and silk. This diffused into Rome through the new fashion trends relating to embroidery and woven designs found in short tunics and elaborate outer garments. These styles of the Byzantine court continued to influence all the courts of Western Europe from about 400 to 900 C.E. up until the European economy began to recover, and Western Europe gained independence from previous Barbarian control. In this span of 500 years, the development of fashion in Europe was somewhat obscure. This was because 400 to 900 C.E. was know as the dark ages, after the fall of the Roman Empire.
