Well, we re a passionate family (my mother says it s my father s blood) and I
remember some serious household arguments going on when I was a child. Most
of the fights took place between my father and my two older sisters. My sisters

the soccer team, sleep over at friends houses, go on dates. My sisters didn t get

this work of art is at the Uffizi Gallery, which is a major art museum located in

The first element of art that is used in this work of art is line, which can be seen
throughout the entire painting. Indeed, the first thing I noticed was variety of lines
in this painting; for example, there are straight vertical and horizontal lines on the
throne, curved and organic lines within the throne and the faces and bodies of the

interesting lines come in the shape of hair; for example, the beards on the men have

Local refugee resettlement agencies like New American Pathways assist newly
arrived refugees in restarting their live in Atlanta, Georgia. In order to provide for
newly arrived refugees New American Pathways has to rely on State funded
resources. Even though refugee
resettlement agencies like New American Pathways are non governmental
organizations. they still rely heavily on State government funding. In this Literature
review I examine the history of refugee policy, how this history produced the
relationship between the States and non governmental organizations (NGOs), and
how the State enacts its power through NGOs. Through my internship at New
American Pathways I explore the relationship dynamics between the State and non
governmental organizations as well as how State control is experienced on a local
resettlement agency in Atlanta, Georgia.
1.1 History
After the violence and destruction of the First World War a massive displacement of
people occurred, spurring on international discussions about displaced people. This
migration of displaced people caused the first refugee legislation by the United States
in 1948, The Displaced Person Act of 1948. This act helped admit displaced person

Creon and Antigone, related to Polynices burial, is trivial. However, upon closer
examination, the dispute between the characters delve deeper into the conflict

of the argument, the conflict highlights similar characteristics between the two.
Sophoclesexplores this type of human behavior in Antigone, through the use of
indirect characterization, to show that when individuals with differing beliefs face

Sophocles initially utilizes indirect characterization to highlight self centered qualities

indirect characterization is to label Antigone as a narcissistic character by

Under the Obama Administration is was announced that September 2014 would be
the first National Childhood Obesity month. Although I was never obese, I gain
weight easily due to hypothyroidism which was diagnosed just a few years prior to
the creation of this national event. National Childhood Obesity month made me
realize that I was not alone with my health struggle and prompted me to commit to
my own health and fitness. What started as a small commitment catapulted me to
not only discover my career and college of choice, but motivated me to excel at my

Life for women in Colonial America was tougher to endure than life back in England.
With daily home chores, that generally lasted all day, to keeping the children under
control, women were often burdened by the amount of work they had. Luckily,
settling down and finding a husband was inevitable. Although, many women who
first came to America as indentured servants would have to wait for marriageuntil the
end of their service.
Life in the colonies was different for a female indentured servant and for a native
born female. The law forbade indentured servants to marry until they finished out
their contract, which was generally about four to five years of service. Unless she
found a man to uplift her contract, she would have to bear a rough beginning
(Hawke 63 64). The exposure to malaria left women vulnerable to more deadly
diseases, the physical work was harder in the colonies than in England due to the
fact that in addition to all of the common household chores, there were also fields
to tend, so many did not make it to their freedom. If they did make it to the end of
their services however, they received: food, clothing, and tools to give them a start
in life. The plan was for women to go into the world looking for a husband, but many
married their employers, those who did not, married quickly since men outnumbered

The American Educational system, which many of us students have become familiar
with, did not come about instantaneously. What we have now is the result of many
decades of development and policy making in legislation. Though Parochial schools
were used in the U.S. as early as 1750, and Government funded public schools began
cropping up after the Revolutionary war, our educational system s pace of
development was relatively slow up until around the mid 19th century when the first
states began passing laws that made schooling compulsory to all those who had the
opportunity to attend. By the early 1900s, twelve years of education became the
standard across the nation, a standard that has withstood the test of time and is still in
place today. The average school day in the U.S. is 6.5 hours, and students are
expected to attend 180 total days of school per grade term. To supplement this, on
average the U.S. spends more per capita on education than any other country in the
world. Though we spend much, the results don t directly translate to nation wide
success in schools. In 2014, the U.S. was ranked 14th globally in education. Many
attribute this to the average length of the school day in America, and others propose
an overall increase in total instructional hours within American schools.
