comparing these two speeches together No great speech can be created without a
good hook. Unfortunately, it seems like neither of them really created a great hook.
They failed to really capture the attentionof the audience and reel them in. Both
introductions had weak hooks, but they made it so that you at least knew what the
speakers were going to talk about and what direction they re going to take with
their speeches. Despite both intros being weak, Aubrey de Grey s introduction was
clearly weaker. Grey did not have any hook whatsoever. Instead, he told the
audience that he was strapped for time and that he would need to dive in right
ahead. Buettner on the other hand, at least tried to create a hook by starting off
with a fact that not many people would know. It was weak, but better than nothing.
The hook is out of the way and next is fluidity for the introduction. Bueller makes it
easy for the audience to follow along with what he s saying. His use of transitive
words guides the audience and it makes it easy to follow along. This along with his
pleasant tone and flow makes it easy to pay attention. A stark contrast to Grey s
speech. Grey at times became quite hard to follow due to his near monotonal voice
and the speed at which he spoke. It was hard to follow what he was saying and
often times I ended up lost, missing quite a bit of the information that he was

Ralph and Helen in America, Theresa also begins to lust after wealth and is
absorbed in the ideals associated with the American dream. This is clearly seen
when all three Chang agree that Every dream come dreamily true (Jen 158) after
moving into a larger home, as although Theresa is more grounded in her traditional
values than Helen, she still begins to desire material goods and fulfill the
mainstream American dream at the end of the novel. However, the danger of this
desire for wealth is made apparent when Ralph hits Theresa while driving and she
ends up in a coma, as their house must be sold to pay for medical expenses. Zhang

George Orwell was a brilliant author. As we will see through his writing he had the
capability to alter our perceptions of reality. He made the unreal seem real, and the
real seem unreal as if we were seeing it for the first time. This was shown in Orwell s
famous book Nineteen Eighty four with how convincingly he displays the methods of
control used by The Party. Dictators rule over the masses with near absolute power,
using control methods mostly unknown to the general population to sculpt and
manipulate their people into whatever they desire. The totalitarian government of
Oceania was the same, except that they had complete control over their citizens.
Using a variety of techniques that Orwell described and that this paper will examine,
the Party had almost completely forced the population into total submission and
obedience. Nineteen Eighty four was a critical piece of literature as it depicted a
dystopian vision of what can happen to us today, if we do not stay vigilant and
continue to hold our governments accountable.
Oceania wass run by a system of government called the Party which was led by Big
Brother. Big Brother was the conceptual leader and the ostensible head of Oceania.

There are many great stories to be told from American Literature up to 1890.
Hannah Dustan and Mary Rowlandson are both key figures when it comes to such
American Literature. Both of these women shared their own personal experiences
of being held captive. They both have a lot in common as they both were captured
by Native Americans; both were puritans and both lost members of their family.
While Rowlandson chose to write her story in a first person narrative, Dustan s story
was told in the words of Cotton Mather based on what he had heard from Dustan
herself. This could also be interpreted that Mather could have changed around bits of

She was captured on the 10th of February, 1675 and was held captive for 11 weeks
before she was ransomed. Rowlandson was not alone whilst held captive. She was
joined by her three children. Her youngest however did not survive the captivity.
Psalms and the bible played a massive part in Rowlandson s narrative. The more
you read, the more frequently psalms quoted from the bible seem to be used.
Approximately one third of the Biblical references that pervade Rowlandson s
narrative of her captivity (Henwood, 169). It is clearly evident that religion plays a
massive part of her life and she turns to her religion throughout her captivity. She
uses the psalms as a context for her misery, spiritual assurance, and emotional
release (Henwood, 170). Some have stated that the use of all the psalms in
Rowlandson s narrative has prevented her from telling some of the story.
Derounian and others have portrayed the Biblical text as inhibiting Rowlandson s
ability to tell her own tale (Henwood, 170). Although Henwood herself disagreed
with this theory stating, the sacred Psalms render publicly legitimate, even
righteous, the captive s very human frustration and rage and thus enable her, as
well as the communal vision she is a part of, to survive (170). The psalms become
such a massive part of the narrative it is easy to see how some people find them to

Vaccines have been credited the annihilation of one major disease smallpox, and
though this was a life saving accomplishment there are still many dangerous diseases
out there. Diseases such as whooping cough and measles are still being fought today
kept alive by those who are not protected via vaccination against them. Even with
vaccines Whooping cough still causes approximately 8,000 (Vaccines and
Immunizations) deaths annually in the United States and measles one of the most
contagious diseases ever known and is an important cause of death and disability

the danger of the disease that people are vaccinated for it is very dangerous to sit

sometimes we have to take risk for the sake of everyone. Vaccination does have
some risk but it is still a necessity to protect not only our families but families
everywhere, it has saved countless lives and will save countless more we cannot let
misguided
