Punishment Is A Necessary Evil And Punishment
Those who won our independence by revolution were not cowards [Supreme Court Associates
Justice; Louis Brandeis]
This essay will aim to support the idea that throughout history, prisons and other institutions did not
only punish the guilty, but control those otherwise socially excluded from society by reasons of
poverty, gender or social class. (Some of the most fundamental divisions in society.)
Punishment is a necessary evil and punishment is evoked when someone is believed to have done
wrong. It symbolizes and erects moral judgment and sustains solidarity and collective
consciousness. [Cesaroni 2010]
Prison is just one of a number of sanctions available to the courts to deal with those who commit
criminal offenses. History shows that prisons (and the system ) have not always been as fair and
just as it now is in the 21st century. (Arguable) Offenders who are convicted and then sentenced
to spend time imprisoned are often those who are socially excluded from society, the poor,
deprived, those with alcohol or drug dependencies or those with mental health issues.
Imprisonment today, is one of the harshest sanctions available, yet, the prison systems incorporate
psychology, psychiatrics and sociology (in the United Kingdom) but this has not always been the
case. [Georg Rusche 2003] The death penalty was once widely accepted. Prisons were created as
a means of control. In the 16th and 17th century according to Flynn [1998] prison was a place for
people awaiting trial,

Pros And Cons Of Network Administrator
Abstract
Every Single day it is indeed a full time job for the network administrator to keep up with the
changing technologies. These new technologies come with new challenges, threats, and
vulnerabilities which a smart network administrator must solve to keep the system secure. The
network administrator must keep up with new hacking techniques, latest countermeasures, and in
depth knowledge of company s data to address the suspicious activities and minimize their effects.
But then comes the question of Ethics. Should the network administrator access employees private
emails or websites logs to ensure company s rules aren t violated? Is it ok to browse employees
documents or graphics files stored on the computers or on file servers? So, the network
administrator has both charms and pitfalls as he has a huge responsibility to secure the company by
carrying out his duties in an ethical way. This paper explains some ethical and social challenges a
future network administrator may encounter in a company. The paper also introduces some basic
ways the new network administrator can use to maintain a healthy, trustful, and ethical relationship
between his work and the society. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Should he report each and every infraction? How to decide the serious infraction? So, the
administrator should educate himself regarding the company s policies, relevant laws, and
regulations to make good ethical decisions [3]. For example, one of the employees is selling
pirated software to the clients and the other is browsing educational sites to complete his college
homework during office hours. These are some of the gray areas which require a judgment call.
Both the infractions are not good for the company s growth but the first one is serious and should
be reported immediately to the higher

Comparing Euro Disney s Fiscal Of Spending Patterns Of...
1.How could the company have erred so badly in its estimates of spending patterns of European
customers?
In my opinion, these are three main reasons attributing to Euro Disney fail. Firstly, the lack of prior
market research and study for European lifestyle and cultural before European Disney built. Euro
Disney chose to spend excessive expenditures on the establishmentпјЊbut Euro Disney did not
recognize the geographic and cultural differences between Europeans and Americans. For
exampleпјЊmost of Europeans will not notice leather wallpaper when they had their lunch in
DisneyпјЊand most Europeans are not used to stay overnight in the theme park, so the heavy
investment in hotels will bring more risk for Euro Disney. Secondly, higher price did... Show more

The attitude of Disney management is confidently dismissive making them appear out of touch
with the cultural differences.
2. Could a better reading of the impact of cultural differences on revenues have been achieved?

Culture difference will influence the number of tourists and the acceptance level of customers. Euro
Disney followed the brand policies to the English instructions only, no wine providing in the theme
park, high price of ticket, and standardized merchandise and food itemsпјЊconsequently wide
spread dissatisfaction among the customers. When a new brand enters different cultures, it is
inevitable for customers in new market to repel it or spend much time to accept itпјЊso the new
brand should be brought closer to local culture by providing a platform to interact with the brand in
customer s terms. Also culture different will bring different consumption patterns, Europeans are
likely to spend reasonable price on entertainment, so the price of Euro Disney will be too high to
accept and decrease the number of tourists in Euro Disney. Different culture has different drinking
and eating habitsпјЊEuro Disney forbad drinking wine in lunch timeпјЊbut most French like to
drink wine when they enjoy their meal. All of these elements deriving from culture difference will
influence the revenue of Euro Disney and even result in the failure of Euro Disney.

When it comes to rates, both of these companies vary in prices by just a dollar or a few. Some of
the services they offer have the same rates as well. But just recently, both these companies have
adjusted their pricing scheme due to increasing fuel prices. FedEx has slowly gained in competition
with UPS in terms of revenue. In a year, FedEx averages about $22 billion in sales while UPS
averages $30 billion a year. Sometimes you just have to face the fact that a company s success is
best measured by its results of operations. When it comes to the selling rates of their shares in the
stock market, UPS is still number one with their stocks valued at $82 billion, while FedEx trails
by a large margin selling only $22 billion dollars in stocks.

The Death Of Homicide Through Executions
Everyone in the world has two things in common. These two things are that everyone starts their
life by being born and also everyone ends their life by dying. Now in the way people are born
and how they die can vary, but the fact of the matter is they were born and they will die. There
are really only two ways people are born which are vaginal or cesarean births. This differs from
death because there are more than a million ways to die, including snake bites, car crash,
parachute failure when skydiving, or even ironically when there is a complication when giving
birth. The different ways people die can be categorized into four groups, natural causes which
happen when people s bodies give out; homicide, which is when someone else... Show more content

The blood eagle was when a person, who killed a father, would have their spinal exposed and
then their ribs would be cracked and set through their backs. Afterward, their lungs would be
pulled out and placed on their ribs (Aden, Josh). Though the blood eagle was used because of
religious beliefs, not all executions were for that reason. On the other hand some people, during
the dark ages were killed because of the plague, they had or people thought they had to make sure
they could not pass it on to the next person they came into contact with. Although people were
executed for religious and sanitary purposes, one of the biggest reasons for people to be executed
was to make a statement. For instance in ancient Rome, they used beasts in the coliseums to kill
people they called it damnatio ad bestias. Most of the time these people were prisoners of war to
make sure people knew what ultimately happens to the enemies of Rome. Later in medieval
England to make statements about traitors they used and execution method know as hanged, drawn,
and quartered. This method was when men who committed treason were drug through town on a
wood panel and taken to the gallows. They then were hung close to death, and then immediately cut
into four pieces in front of everybody (Aden, Josh). Similarly to this day drug cartels make threats
to other drug cartels by using the execution method called the Columbian

The Importance of Chemical Analysis in Archaeology
Anthropology is not a word that crosses people s minds very often, and when it does, it is most
often associated with treasure hunting and dinosaurs. Those who have a vague idea of what
anthropology that is, the study of human past and all that entails and its subfield, archaeology is,
often think of both as one dimensional fields, when in reality, they are so much more.
Anthropology is a multi disciplinary field of study combining various sciences, social and
otherwise, to work together to paint a complete picture of humankind, one of the most complex
species to ever walk on the planet, while archaeology is the study of human past through material
remains. It is, therefore, ridiculous to assume that such a tall order can be accomplished by any
single discipline. One of the most significant methods of verifying information in anthropology is
chemical analysis, which can be used in a variety of ways. This essay will compare and contrast the
use of analytical methods to investigate the bronze artifacts associated with the Xiongnu and pre
Xiongnu period with those used to analyze the chemical compositions of volcanic rocks for adze
production in late precontact Hawaiian archaic states and what the findings imply. Both analyses
use energy dispersive x ray spectroscopy to determine the chemical contents of the artifacts to
understand their

Liam O Faherty s The Sniper
The Sniper In 1919, the Irish Civil War had begun, and it had all started because the Irish wanted
to separate from Britain. The two sides during the war, were The IRA and The Free Staters. In
The Sniper Liam O Flaherty uses scenes of violence to illustrate the theme: War divides brothers
. Use of conflict. Suddenly from the opposite roof a shot rang out and the sniper dropped his rifle
with a curse . (O Flaherty 1) This shows that the IRA Sniper was willing to reveal himself, just
for a chance to smoke. The lust of battle had died in him. He had become bitten with remorse .(2)
This shows that he was killing people for his job, but when he shot the enemy sniper, he wondered
if he knew him. And he suddenly felt guilt and regret.

Nature And Scope Of The Issue
Nature and Scope of the Issue An unfortunate reality in today s society is the gross
overrepresentation of persons with mental illness in the criminal justice system. According to
Teplin (1984), persons with mental illness have been found to be almost twice as likely as
individuals without any known mental illness to be arrested for their behavior in similar situations.
Furthermore, several other studies have even shown that roughly half of all persons with a mental
illness have been arrested at least once in their lifetime (Solomon Draine, 1995; Walsh Bricourt,
2003). Although these statistics seem to further support the common belief among many citizens
that mentally ill persons are dangerous criminals, research indicates that the mentally ill are more
often arrested for nonviolent minor charges (Cuellar, Snowden, Ewing, 2007). Not surprisingly, a
considerable portion of individuals within the criminal justice population have a diagnosable
mental illness. According to Ditton (1999), 7% of federal inmates, 16% of state inmates, and 16%
of jail inmates have a mental illness. These percentages may be inflated because persons with
mental illness tend to spend longer periods of time in custody than those without a mental illness.
Perhaps the greatest indication of the brokenness of the system is the fact that there are more
mentally ill persons in jails and prisons today than in public psychiatric hospitals (Lamb Bachrach,
2001). In fact, according to the

Alice s Wonderland, Through The Looking Glass And The...
Alice s Adventures in Wonderland, Through the Looking Glass and The Wizard of Oz are
fictional stories about the coming of age. Children relate to these stories and admire both Alice
and Dorothy. In what can be assumed are Alice s and Dorothy s dreams, we see various
anthropomorphic creatures and animals. There imaginary worlds lead both girls to face situations
in which they must think maturely and at the same time lose a bit of their innocence, similar to
when a young child takes their first step in becoming their own mature and independent person.
When both girls admit for the first time they were not who they were when they first entered their
dreams, they took their first step into a new world of decision making and maturity. Alice and
Dorothy mature throughout the story and leaving behind the dependence and innocence every
person once had. Both girls are coming to the age of independence. Throughout Alice s and
Dorothy s journey in wonderland it can be seen that each girl loses the air of innocence they had
at the beginning of the story. The stories, Alice s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the
Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll and The Wizard of Ozfilm directed by Victor Fleming, all
represent a coming of age story where a young girl must go on a journey, let go of her
childishness, and mature and face her fears in order to find their way home.
Distinguishing what is a dream and what is reality can be difficult. Most times it is obvious that a
dream is only a dream.

Effectiveness Of The Rotavirus Vaccine Essay
Effectiveness of the rotavirus vaccine in New Zealand infants between 8 weeks and three years old
Abstract
Background. Rotavirus is a gastrointestinal illness characterized by vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach
ache and a fever. Children less than three years old are particularly at risk of dehydration from the
sudden vomiting and diarrhoea, which can require hospitalisation. A vaccineagainst rotavirus was
recommended globally by WHO in 2009, and it has recently been approved into the New Zealand
immunisation schedule. As yet there are no studies following the effectiveness of this vaccine since
its introduction using New Zealand study subjects specifically.
Methods. In this matched case control study, cases are infants between eight weeks and three
years of age who will be seen in a participating ED with rotavirus, confirmed with a positive
rotavirus antigen test, between November 2014 and November 2016 in New Zealand. For every
case we will enrol 1 or 2 controls who are seen in the same ED without rotavirus and they will be
matched for date of birth (within two weeks) and date of visit to ED (within two weeks). Vaccine
effectiveness will be calculated by 1 minus the matched odds ratio, multiplied by 100 for the
percentage. Aims
To measure the effectiveness of the new rotavirus vaccine against Emergency Department
attendance, or admission, for rotavirus in infants between 8 weeks and three years of age in New
Zealand.
To try and measure the effectiveness of the vaccine

Is Jay Gatsby A Christ Figure
Is Gatsby a Christ figure? Why or why not? In the Great Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald, Jay Gatsby
is depicted as a Christ like figure. There are several reasons why Gatsby is considered a christ
figure. Gatsby may not have been a saint, however; his christ like qualities and the betrayal by
his loved one, makes him a Christ figure. Jay Gatsby exhibits altruistic qualities, which makes him
a Christ figure. Jay Gatsby reveals these qualities towards the end of the novel, when he is willing
to take the blame for Daisy killing Myrtle. After Daisy hit Myrtle with the car, Nick came by
Gatsby s house and asked if Daisy was driving and Gatsby said Yes...but of course I ll say I was

Gatsby s dream for a better life, was a life involved with Daisy. Gatsby had thrown himself into
[his dreams of Daisy] with a creative passion (97). Also, Gatsby s strive for a better life is
revealed towards the beginning of the novel, when Nick sees Gatsby walking alone as he
stretched out his arms toward the dark water in a curious way... and distinguished nothing except
a single green light (21 22). This significant moment in the novel symbolizes Gatsby stretching
his arms towards Daisy and looking only at her, however; she is out of his grasp. Myrtle s strive
for a better life was due to her unhappiness with Mr. Wilson. Myrtle admits that she married him
because [she] thought he was a gentlemen and that he wasn t fit enough to lick [her] shoe (35).

AIDS Crisis In The 1980 s With Angels In America
AIDS Crisis in the 1980 s with Angels in America The first cases of acquired immune deficiency
syndrome, also known as AIDS were reported in the United States in June 1981 (HIV and AIDS).
Acquired immune deficiency syndrome became a terminal epidemic that was quickly stigmatized
and feared by the American society. In his Pulitzer prize winning play Angels in America, Tony
Kushner showed how AIDSaffected people that were diagnosed with the disease, how it affected
their relationships, and just how the people that were branded by society dealt with it when it was
first discovered. Kushner also gave a voice to people suffering from AIDS when it was an
unspeakable and avoided topic among American citizens. Acquired immune deficiency syndrome...

the stress of what agonizing manifestations AIDS lead to, but with the help of Tony Kushner s
Angels in America and other literatures a light was shined onto AIDS. With this light the gay
community began to protest, society saw what life was really like for someone with AIDS,
change to better the lives of those infected, and government intervention began to finally end an
epidemic. In the late 1900s AIDS was a very apparent disease that was hard to hide, yet was
worryingly avoided, but today it is nearly an invisible disease that is well known and no longer

Concept Analysis Of Effectiveness In Nursing
Concept Analysis of Effectiveness
Effectiveness, as a concept, is important to nursing. What actions nurses take and do can make a
difference in care and determine whether or not care or treatment is effective. According to
Rodgers (2015) concepts are important in portraying the character and scope of a discipline (Butts
Rich, 2015). However, defining what effectiveness as a concept is, is not unique to nursing. To
create a better understanding of the concept of effectiveness, a glimpse at other discipline s and
their incorporation of the term is beneficial. Isolating the term and the definitions create a basis for
understanding the role of effectiveness. This paper will define the term effectiveness across
multiple disciplines and give construct to the use of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

relationships or medicine.
2.There is a completion of a successful mission.
3.There are positive outcomes identified.
4.The desired effect is achieved, creating a model for further improvement and modifications.
Case Examples
Walker and Avant (2005) analysis methods advise applying case examples to represent the
meaning of a concept. Each of the following cases will further define and create understanding of
the concept of effectiveness. First is a model case, showing an ideal use of the concepts. Next will
be cases that are similar in a fashion, but not ideal. Finally will be a contrary case, exemplifying
what the concept is not. Conclusion In conclusion, effectiveness is a large part of nursing, making
improvements in overall health care of patients. The review of effectiveness through definitions,
spanning several different disciplines, gives a solid foundation for understanding the concept. The
further building blocks of the descriptive words, specific to the term effectiveness and case studies,
is essential to the nursing profession to appreciate the concept and provide continued effectiveness

SST Anomalies Essay
In the statistical detection of re emergence (section 4.2.1), it was indicated that recurrence of
SST anomalies is observed not only in the mid latitudes but also in the tropical ocean. In
particular, the south western tropical Pacific ocean shows a significant sign of SST anomaly
recurrence. The seasonal variability of MLD is the dominant dynamical process that controls the
re emergence in the midlatitudes. However, this shouldn t be the case in the tropical region
because the amplitude of the seasonal variability of the MLD is small (Pookkandy et al 2016). So
mixed layer dynamics are not directly involved in the observed recurrence of SST anomalies in the
tropical ocean. The question arises: what then is the cause of the re emergence of... Show more

Initial temperature and salinity fields are from the WOA2009 climatology data at 40 vertical
levels in 165E and 6S. The integrated surface temperature fields are restored with a damping
coefficient of 30 Wm 2K 1, along with the flux correction to match the spectral variance and
standard deviation of SSTs to those observed (figures are not shown). Since the ML in this
region is relatively shallow, and to avoid seasonal variability in the ML induced by the model
physics, we ran the experiment with a 10m prescribed MLD. Figure 4.15 shows the auto
correlation of SST anomalies during the cold season for both the Control and 10m constant
MLD experiments. Significant signals of re emergence as in the observations (Figure 4.14) do
not occur in either of the cases. One has to keep in mind that the generated stochastic atmospheric
forces do not show the re appearing pattern seen in the observations. Hence, we couldn t
reproduce the re emergence signal in our control simulation. In the next experiment, we ran the
model with a generated AR 1 atmospheric heat flux with recurring patterns in May Jun July
months (see Figure 4.16). This was achieved by adding a 50 Wm 2 net heat flux to May Jun July
months in alternate decades until the model had run 500 years, so that it produces repeating
positive anomalies continuously for 10 years and negative anomalies in the following 10 years.

Howl By Ginsberg Essay
Constraints of Confinement
Trumpets blaring, bass booming, heads swaying to the beat in a tiny jazz club. Creativity is flowing
and the Beat Poets of the 1950s are unknowingly establishing a counterculture movement, one that
challenges the social norms and politics of their time and even transcends generations to remain
relevant today. Poets like Jack Kerouac, William Seward Burroughs, Neal Cassady, and Allen
Ginsberg were heavily influenced by jazz, adopting their seedy dress, manners, and hip
vocabulary ( Beat Movement ) that changed their lifestyle and helped write their poetry.
Specifically, Allen Ginsberg s poem Howl, is often regarded as the anthem of 1950s Beats ( Howl
| Poem by Ginsberg ), a poem unstructured and free flowing to reflect Ginsberg s experiences. In
Howl, Allen Ginsberg uses unique language and changes his tone throughout the poem in an
attempt to break the constraints of confinement and seek his own forms of freedom.

away and people have become constrained by the capitalist institution that is America. The tone of
anger prevails in particularly in line 91, describing dreams, adorations, and illuminations as the

Islam And Democracy Benazir Bhutto
Islam and Democracy: A Reflection
In the essay entitled Islam and Democracy , Benazir Bhutto argues that democracy and Islam are
not mutually exclusive ideas, but can coexist peacefully. She provides ample evidence to back up
this theory, citing both the Quran and the Constitution of Pakistan. Bhutto also provides the reader
with reasons she believes the two are so rarely seen together. She attributes this to both religious
extremism and the hypocritical policies of western countries; in particular, she points out the United
States talent for supporting freedom in other countries only when it directly benefits the U.S.
economy. To give the reader some background information, Bhutto displays an excerpt from the
preamble of Pakistan s Constitution. After defining Pakistan as an Islamic nation by stating that
sovereignty over the entire Universe belongs to Almighty Allah (qtd. in Jacobus 175), the
Constitution goes on to lay out some beliefs that coincide with those of Western democracy. The
document claims that the principles of democracy, freedom, equality, tolerance, and social justice...
shall be fully observed... (and the citizens of Pakistan) shall be guaranteed fundamental rights,
including... social, economic, and political justice, and freedom of thought, expression, belief;
faith, worship, and association (175). The preamble goes on to declare Pakistan (is)... a democratic
State based on Islamic principles of social justice... dedicated to the preservation of democracy (175
176). This passage presents the reader with the idea that, fundamentally, Islamic and democratic
values correspond. The Quran, Islam s foundation, also preaches many of the values familiar to
democracy. Bhutto references the Quran, stating (Allah)... created people of different views and
perspectives... and that diversity is good (178). She goes on to offer her interpretation of the holy
book, saying the message of the Quran empowers people with rights (democracy) (178). By using
multiple references, Bhutto establishes her knowledge of the governing body of Pakistan and the
Islamic religion. It is difficult for the reader to doubt her authority on the subject. This leads the
reader to a question: if the ideals of Islam and

Descriptive Essay On Yergu
It is the annual parade for the planet Yergu. Yergu was the home planet for the creatures known as
the Yengears. These creatures looked a lot like humans. And since their planet was much colder
than Earth, all the Yengears were extremely fair.
The annual parade is a very important event for the Yengears as it honors the soldiers that protect
the planet for their services throughout the year. The parade is held on the anniversary of the Great
Armistice, the truce which ended the millennium war. It is also the day where all the kingdoms of
Yergu united as the great empire of United Yengear. The royal familyalways conducted the parade
to show that peace can always be achieved no matter what.
But ever since the royal family was betrayed and massacred 7 years ago by the planet Aoem, this
parade did not symbolize peace. But it showed to rest of the universe what ... Show more content on

All the troops that are participating in the parade, marched to the parade grounds. Each division
was slowly assembling themselves forming files and ranks. This parade also served as an exhibition
event to show off their conquests, creations, achievements in the past year.
The Conquest forces, the division of the army which is on the constant lookout for new planets to
conquer, had as usual brought their slaves to show off. The slaves were stripped naked and only
had collared chains to their neck. The collar sent an electric current directly to salve s nervous
system. This current made them obey their masters without any resistance. This year they had
defeated the planet of the giants Zwam, the planet Preeru which housed the creatures known for
their nimble feet and planet of the ground Cray.
The engineering division had brought an assortment their gadgets. Their collection this year

Write An Essay About Ron s Career
In Wisconsin our two senators are Tammy Baldwin serving for a little over three years and still
serving, and Ron Johnson serving for 5 years and still serving. We chose to write about Ron,
because he seemed the most interesting and reliable to our state. This paper will discuss the topics of
Ron s life, his career, how he got elected, what he did to get elected and a past campaign. On April
8th, 1995 in Mankato, Minnesota Jeanette Elizabeth and Dale Robert Johnson were blessed with a
baby boy. They named him Ron. His family and he lived on a farm where he was born and raised.
When Ron was old enough he delivered newspapers, worked at a golf course as a caddy, and baled
hay. When he was older he became a dishwasher at Walgreen s Grill. A couple years later when he
was a senior he received early admission to the University of Minnesota, so he left his high school

The International Organization For Standardization Essay
Introduction:
The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) states that air pollution is the result of
human activities and natural processes on the environment, which causes certain gases to be
released into the air to interact with other substances to form acid rain, the greenhouse effect and
ozone hole on global scale. Environmental pollution can be directly jeopardizes a wide range of
public health in short amount of time through its pollutants that naturally generated in the
atmosphere during the pollutant emission. For instance, the following three cases are the result
of the environmental pollution that occurred in last century. The first one is the Meuse Valley
fog of 1930 that occurred in the area of Liege on the River Meuse where was once one of most
heavily industrialised areas of Europe since industrial revolution. The event occurred between
Dec 1 to Dec 5, 1930, a thick fog covered a large part of Belgium. From Dec 3 onwards, hundreds
of people experienced severe respiratory signs and symptoms in the village between the town of
Huy and Lieg and more than 60 people died in the next 3 day due to its polluted environment.
The second one is the Donora smog of 1948 that occurred in the Pennsylvania, which caused by the
mixture of emission of plants and coal furnace which led to large amount of Sulfur dioxide, carbon
monoxide and metal dust were trapped in the town during oct 26 and dec 31, 1948, caused 20

Sociological Theorists
The situation between the individual and society is not as simple as many people believe.
There are three sociological theorists: George Herbert Mead, Karl Marx, and Emile Durkheim;
who analyze the connections between the two. As a warning these theories can be quite
confusing at times, but fear not I will be translating them into Jersey terms for better
understanding. That being said, first we will be discussing Mead s theory on the development of
our self . Mead heavily focused on social problems and social reform in his research, his most
notable work being Mind, Self, and Society that describes that the self is a product of social
interaction. He explains that the body can be there and can operate in a very intelligent fashion
without there being self involved in the experience. The self has the... Show more content on

In other words, the social conception of the self does not exist at birth or biologically, it arises
through the process of social experiences and activities. Humans are able to not only be an object

something. Therefore, you are subject and object at the same time. The self only comes about
through social experience, without experience in society around others in some ways we do not

of how you know people see yourself is based off the interactions. Other than that you kind of don t

Military Decision Making Process And It Essay
Military Decision Making Process and It Is Used In
Staff Operations In today s Army the role of the non commissioned officer (NCO) is ever
changing. They are known as the backbone of the Army and play a crucial role in today s
battlefield. The purpose of this essay is to discuss the roles that a Staff NCO plays in an organization
and how they ensure our combat effectiveness no matter what situation they are put in. To be
combat effective, Soldiers need to carry out the orders that are given from their superiors. The
Soldiers to carry out these orders though cannot be effective without a competent leader. For this
reason, the United States Army has published doctrines that define what makes a leader an Army
leader. To be an effective leader at any level of leadership, Headquarters Department of the Army
(HQDA) states in ADP 6 22 Army Leadership (2012,) those leaders must possess attributes and
competencies. There are three attributes and three competencies that comprised together make that
Leadership Requirement Model. First we will look into the three leadership attributes that are the
internal characteristics of a leader. Appropriately, Character is the first of the three attributes. A
person s leadership style is directly affected by their character, which makes up that person s
identity. ADP 6 22 Army Leadership (2012) gives the example of integrity as a trait of character.

Projections, Forecasts, And Estimates Essay
2.4 Projections, Forecasts, or Estimates The definition of projections, forecasts, and estimates are
all different and should not be used without knowing the exact meanings which are: Projection: the
familiar word for statements that are taken from mathematics and are based on inferences decided
in advance. Forcast: the statement that has the highest probability to happen in the future. Estimate:
is about specific statistics from the past or present statistics. o Estimates fill in the years between
two different census. 3.1.1 Typolography of projection Methods Subective projections are
assumptions, and they stay away from elaborate orderly and procedural methods. They can only
show impressions of predispositions of the later to come population. Objective projections take the
quantitative way of gathering data and use a quatitative strategy to attain a projected outcome.
Objection projections dependo n the selection of the right projection technique. The major
projection methods are: structual method, cohort component, and the trend extrapolation method.
3.4 Trend Extrapolation Methods Extending the application of past trends into the time beyond the
observation range is the essence of all the extrapolation methods. The extrapolation method is best
used for modest sized population projections that have low data needs , inexpensive, and able to be
used effortlessly. Sometimes data, such as population trends is easier to see and understand in

Copyright Holders And The Copyright
INTRODUCTION
Copyright holders are given a property right to their work according to section 1 of the Copyright,
Designs and Patents Act 1988 (CDPA 1988). Thus the right holders are given an exclusive right to
their work. Anyone who carries out an act, which is exclusive to the right holders, without
obtaining their permission prior to the act, infringes on the copyright holders proprietary rights.
A lot of people have been taking advantage of the internet for the commission of copyright
infringement and they do so anonymously. Charleton, J, while dealing with a case of online
copyright infringement, explains that it is a problem that not only undermines the business of the
content industry, but also ruins the ability of a generation of creative persons to earn a viable living
. In their quest for financial gain in respect of their work and the protection of their work, right
holders have, consequently turned against the internet service providers who serve as the
middlemen, seeking to hold them accountable for the infringement of the offenders using their
networks to commit these crime. Consequently, the issue of indirect liability against Internet
Service Providers has resulted into a floodgate of litigant wanting to enforce their right. Internet
Service Providers were reluctant to interfere with their subscribers access to website not until the
recent epidemic, where right holders are able to bring action against them and hold them liable for

Charles Darwin and Galapagos
Charles Darwin arrived at the Galapagos in 1835 ready to record everything he saw. Herman
Melville got there in 1841 with different goals. They were both young men when they took this
journey to raid the islands: Darwin raided in the name of science and Melville for food (Howarth,
99). After their respective journeys, Darwin and Melville wrote two different books describing the
same islands. The respective books made the headlines after they were written. This paper will
compare Charles Darwins The Voyage of The Beagle and Herman Miller s The Encantadas in an
attempt to show how their writing of the biological factors in the Galapagos was skewed by the
time they wrote, their mood when writing and their motive to be on the island.
Darwin was on the Beagle to gather specimens and spy on the Spanish colonial defenses. To keep
a detailed record everything he saw, Darwin sent immediate reports in letters during the trip.
When he got back to England, Darwin started diligently producing volumes of the zoological and
geological phenomena he found in during the voyage (Howarth, 101). One of the species he
records is the finch. He noticed how the different finch species had evolved to meet the nutrition
available in their habitat. His detailed letters gave him access to the information he needed to
describe the organisms he had seen when he began to write his book. He was on the island to
collect specimen and so his writing explained in great detail the specimens he had found and

When it comes to the constitutionality of the individual mandate many of the bills supports will
look to the commerce clause and seek justification for its passage. This portion of the debate is not
just about health care, but instead about the scope and power of the federal government; if the
courts decide that the individual mandate is constitutional and therefore grant the federal
government the power to force citizens to buy a product from a private company in order to protect
them , then the existence of the constitution will become negligible. Before the adoption of the
constitution the states were reluctant to ratify it on the basis that they felt that it might grant too
much power to the federal government to which James Madison, the writer of the constitution,
wrote The powers delegated by the proposed Constitution to the federal government are few and

What Is The Relationship Between Inequality And Inequality
Poverty, Modernity and inequality are amongst the most common words of the English language.
According to dictionary.com, poverty means the condition of being poor , modernity means the
state of being modern and inequality means lack of equality. These three words are interrelated.
Modernity (being modern) is something which only the rich can afford. The poor rarely get a
chance of being modernized due to a lack of money and other facilities. Since the poor are not
modern enough they are subjected to inequality in everyday tasks. This paper will discuss how the
poor are treated and the relationship between the words modernity, inequality and poverty.

Our daily needs are actually their luxuries. The poems also show that treating the poor badly is
considered normal. The poor people themselves have accepted the way they are treated and do
nothing to fight against it. If the poor people take a stand and fight for their rights they can
actually overthrow their masters and live better lives. This point is especially focused in Faiz s
poem Kutte . (Faiz ahmed faiz, 1943)
The poem The nobodys by Edvardo Galeano tells us that the poor never get lucky. Their dreams
never come true no matter how hard they pray or wish for it. The poet also tells us that along
with all other things the life of the poor is also considered as worthless. The poet says that The
nobodies, the ones who are worth less than the bullet that kills them. Which shows that even if they
are dead it is not considered as something big because their life has no worth since they are not rich

This thesis focuses on archaeology programming in museums and the common visitor
misconceptions about archaeology that museum educators face, especially those promoted by
popular culture. By recognizing the notions and understanding of archaeology that visitors and
program participants carry with them, museums can create truly educational programs that go

The Ergonomic Keyboard And Mouse Prevent Carpal Tunnel...
Office workers in Mound, Minnesota, may be aware of the importance of the ergonomic
keyboard and mouse to prevent carpal tunnel syndrome and other repetitive stress disorders.
However, these are merely the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the health problems
researchers have linked to prolonged sitting. High blood sugar The Washington Post reports that
poor posture does contribute to a variety of spinal issues, such as neck strain and muscle tissue
damage. However, studies show that even at an ergonomic station, the pancreas is negatively
affected. That organ produces insulin to help the body regulate the amount of sugar in the
blood. When a person sits for hours at a time, muscles stop responding the way they should to
insulin, and that prompts the pancreas to go into overdrive. As a result, the risk for diabetes
rises. Low mental function Unused muscles take a toll in other areas of the body, as well. Fat is
not burned as efficiently when muscle movement is restricted, and that leads to sluggish blood
flow and less oxygen in the brain. Lower mental capacity is one side effect, and depression may
follow, since the body does not produce the chemicals that improve mood and outlook. Cancer
According to Time Magazine, a recent analysis of 43 studies indicates a clear link between sitting
for hours during the day, and colon, lung and endometrial cancer. Regular exercise did not lower
the risks, which were 66 percent higher for those who are typically deskbound at work.

A Report On Bmw Z8
To the casual observer, the BMW Z8 looks like a 1960s roadster, its swoopy retro esque lines
belying the fact that it first saw light of day in 1999. BMW wanted to create a car to celebrate the
turn of the millennium, bringing together its past and future in one design. Therefore the
aluminium bodied Z8 draws heavily from Z07 concept car seen only a few years earlier at the
1997 Tokyo Motor Show, which in turn pays homage to the original BMW 507from the 1950s. The
car was met with great excitement by both the motoring press and customers alike, an appearance
in the James Bond movie, The World is Not Enough cemented its place as a desirable exotic.
Rivals in this retro modern category were thin on the ground, and there were precious few cars to
which the Z8 could be compared, especially when looking at its traditional German counterparts.
BMW itself had a model range comprising only of the 3, 5 and 7 series with the recently
introduced X5 having just dipped an adventurous toe into untapped segments. The 8 series was in
its last year and rivals had a similarly modest set of offerings to choose from. You had to move to
look at niche manufacturers and up your budget considerably to find any meaningful challengers,
the Ferrari 360 and Aston Martin DB7 come to mind and while both have their merits, it is the Z8
that is now worth considerably more than either of those cars in today s market.

Analysis Of Flying Airplane By Kazimir Malevich
Flying Airplane by Kazimir Malevich Flying Airplane was a famous work of art that was created
by an incredibly genious artist who was named Kazimir Malevich.Kazimir Malevich painted many
pieces of art. Flying Airplane was a piece like many other works of arts that were a part of
Malevich s many suprematism compositions. This painting was one of Malevich s very famous
works of arts that represented many things to him, and held sentimental value due to the fact that it
held many meanings. Kazimir Malevich, born on february 23, 1879 and died on May 15 1915, was
a russian painter and art theoretician. He was the creator of the avant garde suprematism
movement. 1915 Malevich created a large amount of suprematism paintings. He created many
beautiful works of art that transformed from cubism to suprematism. Malevich became a member
of the collegium on the arts of narkompros, the commission for the protection of monuments and
the museums commission Hence, to the Suprematist, the appropriate means of representation is
always the one which gives fullest possible expression to feeling as such and which ignores the
familiar appearance of objects. Objectivity, in itself, is meaningless to him; the concepts of the
conscious mind are worthless. Feeling is the determining factor ... and thus art arrives at non

Gilpin And Fiscal
Unlike Strange, Gilpin denies the notion that the nation state has been undermined by the rise of
international organizations and nongovernmental actors. While some research suggests that the
market is wrestling with the state for control over the commanding heights of the economy, Gilpin
disagrees and argues that the nation state continues to be the major actor in both domestic and
international affairs (Barma and Vogel, p. 535). The claim that the economic globalization and
transnational economic forces are declining the authority of the states is exaggerated, he says;
for better or for worse, this is still a state dominated world Barma and Vogel, p. 536). If there was
an argument to be made about the declining power of the states, it would be the decades prior to
World War I when markets were truly supreme and governments had little power over economic
affairs (Barma and Vogel, p. 537). As for the twentieth and twenty first centuries, states have pretty

While it is true that the use of macroeconomic have declined in the twenty first century,
nevertheless, the governments policies are still effectives and have assisted in promoting economic
growth. Fiscal policies and monetary policies are two of the ways the states manage the national
economy (Barma and Vogel, p. 540). Through the fiscal policies, which consists of the taxation and
government expenditure, the federal government is able to positively or negatively affect economic
activities, and also be able to stimulate certain sectors of the market (Barma and Vogel, p. 540).
While strict restriction on monetary policies, particularly the flow of capitals can affect the level of
trade and foreign investments in a nation, states are still capable of controlling such economic

Quality Matters Related Issues And Course Design
ENV 1053 and ENV 1073
Quality Matters related issues/course design:
There are no major issues related to Quality Matters; I will touch upon a few of the design issues
that came up during the review.
One of the really good things about these courses is in the incorporation of case studies. Each
week or chapter features a case study that s taken right from the course textbook. I ve advocated
in other courses for the use of case studies and I think this course serves as a starting point to
incorporate them into these other courses. The challenge I think here is that while the case
studies are incorporated into the students final grade, the stakes are so low that students may
complete only a few or none of the case studies. However the overall grade for discussion forums
/case studies is only 4% of the final grade. As such students can complete none of the discussion
forums/case studies and still receive a strong grade in the course. My suggestion would be to
limit the number of case studies to four, and create case studies that combine several of the
weeks for units into one, each worth 2 1/2% of the final grade. Students not completing any of
the case studies as a result we ll lose 10% of their final grade. This is enough to make or break a
student s grade, between b and a. My suggestion is similar for the critical thinking questions that
are part of each week s activities. There are a lot of them and they count for very little in terms of
course grade(s).

Budget Example Analysis
Introduction
In the wake of the dot com industry s collapse, the steep stock market drop, the rise of the dollar
against foreign currencies, increased unemployment, and other economic factors, March 2001
officially began a nationwide recession that triggered budget problems in at least forty five states.
The 2001 recession was the fourth recession in 30 years. After past recessions budget experts
recommended establishing a rainy day fund (saving funds during boom times in order to cushion
the shocks of economic busts). Wisconsin established the fund but never put money into it.
During the 1990 1991 recession Wisconsin s fiscal stress was ranked the lowest among the 50
states. During the 2001 recession Wisconsin was among the ... Show more content on

European and some of the Far East economies were growing slowly or were in a recession before
the U.S.
Remedies Proposed and Implemented
During a deficit lawmakers have four options.
They can raise taxes, cut spending, employ a combination of both, or employ a method of creative
bookkeeping .
The required spending cuts might have been reduced if the lawmakers could have drawn from a
Rainy Day Fund.
The other option was to tap into the tobacco settlement money that the state was supposed to get
over a 30 year period, the lawmakers decided to draw heavily from this fund.
Remedies
Act 16, the 2001 2003 biennial budget bill was passed in August of 2001 contained five major
initiatives. 5 percent cuts to state agency budgets delays in staffing new prisons use the proceeds
from the sale of tobacco settlement agreement revenue bonds reallocation of federal transfer
revenues to support state medical assistance funding extraordinary accounting devices...employed
to ensure a positive budget balance
High priority programs were exempt from budget reductions (these included assistance to the poor,
disabled, and the elderly, funding of K 12 schools, medical assistance, the court system, and public
defenders).
Three largest elements that remained to tax were the University of Wisconsin System, Shared
Revenue Fund, and corrections.
Consequences

In The Twelfth Night Film Directed By Trevor Nunn, There
In the Twelfth Night film directed by Trevor Nunn, there are differences between the sequencing of
the scenes, lines of characters, and character stage directions/movements compared to the original
text. Directors use film adaptations to enhance the writer s intended meaning hidden in the original
text, however, Trevor Nunn altered the meaning of a Shakespearean comedy. Shakespearean
comedies are characterized as entertaining plays centered around a person of power, who delivers a
statement of harsh judgment and must make amends, and the comedies usually end in marriage. In
Twelfth Night, Orsino, the Duke of Illyria, passes harsh judgment towards Lady Olivia by telling
his servant, Cesario, to be clamorous and leap all civil bounds/... Show more content on

In the scene, Orsino asks Feste to sing a song that dallies with the innocence of love (1212, l. 46)
and as Feste sings, Orsino and Viola slowly come together and eventually their lips touch as
Feste s song is ending. During this scene, Nunn upholds the comedic attributes of the play itself
by adding in the facial expressions of Feste as he sings his song and realizes what is happening;
however, Nunn also adds in the motion of Orsino and Cesario slowly coming together and
kissing. The addition of Orsino and Cesario s stage directions takes away from the overall
comedic aspect of the play, and shifts into an aspect of the play that is focused on love and
romance. Nunn also provides an intimate setting to the scene by placing the characters in a dimly
lit shed. In the original text, Curio makes the comment that Feste is about the house (1211), which
suggests that Feste is situated in Orsino s home, however in the film it is shown that he is located
in a shed near a cliff overlooking the ocean. This change in the setting from being in a house, to
being cliff side overlooking the ocean creates a romantic setting for the audience. Furthermore, the
dim shed setting provides a sense of privacy and intimacy for the audience and essentially sets the
mood for the events that take place during Feste s song. To the audience their kiss is a perfect
addition because it soothes the romantic tension

Ortega Gaona, CEO, founder, and Spain s richest man founded Zara in 1975. Zara s first store
was in A Caruna where the headquarters now lay and featured lower priced lookalikes of high
end, popular products selling to women, men, and children (Zara (Clothing) 2009). Beginning in
the nineteen eighties Zara began experimenting with differentiating the design, manufacturing and
distributing progression in order to condense lead times and respond faster to new trends. Gaona
considered this to be instant fashion. Instead of individuals, Zara used information technologies
and groups of designers to base its improvements in fashion. In 1998, the company began its
international development through Portugal s second city, Porto. By 1989 Zara entered the
United States and by 1990 entered France. Zara s international development expanded to Mexico
in 1992, Greece in 1993, and Belgium and Sweden in 1994. Zara continued to open stores around
the world until there were stores in seventy countries. This includes more than 519 stores in

Essay about The Vaccine that Made Me Want to Become a Doctor
As a kid all I cared about was playing with the latest toys and being truly mischievous, although
those habits soon changed around the first time I ever learned about medicine. Around my tenth
birthday, I went to receive an injection at a local clinic in my home town I was so frightened of
needles and at the time I acutely hated doctors as a result of that. When the doctor was about to
administrate the shot he said, Look the other way, it will hurt less. In that act of kindness I knew
that doctor cared about his patients and that they do not just inject one for fun they do it to help
you. After the shot had been carried out I asked the doctor what that syringe contained. He went on
to tell me that in the shot there was a vaccine,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Inoculation may also have been practiced by scratching substances from a smallpox sore into the
skin (Bazin, 2000).
Inoculation of diseases in that way was not always effective. More than half of the people who
performed that process died. Inoculation was all they had back then, but it came with a cost the
small amount of people who were inoculated and lived ended up spread the diseases rapidly
because they were not quarantined properly. However a man by the name of Dr. Edward Jenner
in 1798 took the next step by introducing inoculation with scabs not from small pox but from
something similar. He was the one responsible for creating the vaccine for smallpox (Glynn,
2004). Dr. Jenner noticed that the girls or women employed to milk dairy cows who had
previously caught cowpox did not later contract smallpox. He then created an experiment where
he chose a boy by the name of James Phipps who was just eight at the time as his subject and
infected him with cowpox. The child was sick for a while, but then he was perfectly healthy.
Jenner then inoculated the boy again with fresh scabs from a smallpox infected human. Later the
boy did not contract the disease (Bazin, 2000). This led to the creation of the vaccine, which over
time ended up eradicating the disease Apparently, the term vaccine actually came from the
smallpox epidemic. It was first used by Jenner s friend, Richard Dunning in 1800. The term vaccine

Using Auras ( Multimedia Overlays Created By The Aurasma
Introduction A kindergarten teacher desired to create an augmented reality experience to enhance
her students ability to learn sight words from her word wall. Augmented reality was defined as an
environment that includes both virtual reality and real world elements by Azuma (1997). This
paper evaluated the value of using auras (multimedia overlays created by the Aurasma (2011)
software to create the augmented reality over the real classroom environment, specifically the word
wall. Instructional Setting, Audience, and Content Area Instructional Setting The setting was a
public school classroom with 21 kindergarten students. The instruction took place in small groups,

The teacher had to help all the other centers and tend to individual student needs simultaneously.
This meant the students had to be intermittently self directed and focused to accomplish the tasks
at each center. Audience The target audience was the kindergarten students, ages five to six
years old. They come from a range of socio economic backgrounds. The school overall had about
40% of their students participating in the free/reduced lunch program. There were seven students
who self identified as being of color (Hispanic, African American and others). There were six
students with various learning challenges and IEPs (Individualized Education Programs). There
were four students who started the year with minimal to non existent English speaking skills.
Content Area In alignment with state requirements, students are expected to be able to write
certain words before the end of the school year. In support of this, the teacher had a writing
center. Frequently the assignment would have students copying some text from a template, but
they were also expected to decode words they did not know. Additionally they were to use the
word wall to find and copy sight words. The teacher has songs and visual reminders for how to
spell the challenging words, but these cannot be put on the word wall. She desired an augmented
reality experience for the students, which would allow them to use the classroom iPads to highlight
a word, and see the associated aural or visual

  • 2. Punishment Is A Necessary Evil And Punishment Those who won our independence by revolution were not cowards [Supreme Court Associates Justice; Louis Brandeis] This essay will aim to support the idea that throughout history, prisons and other institutions did not only punish the guilty, but control those otherwise socially excluded from society by reasons of poverty, gender or social class. (Some of the most fundamental divisions in society.) Punishment is a necessary evil and punishment is evoked when someone is believed to have done wrong. It symbolizes and erects moral judgment and sustains solidarity and collective consciousness. [Cesaroni 2010] Prison is just one of a number of sanctions available to the courts to deal with those who commit criminal offenses. History shows that prisons (and the system ) have not always been as fair and just as it now is in the 21st century. (Arguable) Offenders who are convicted and then sentenced to spend time imprisoned are often those who are socially excluded from society, the poor, deprived, those with alcohol or drug dependencies or those with mental health issues. Imprisonment today, is one of the harshest sanctions available, yet, the prison systems incorporate psychology, psychiatrics and sociology (in the United Kingdom) but this has not always been the case. [Georg Rusche 2003] The death penalty was once widely accepted. Prisons were created as a means of control. In the 16th and 17th century according to Flynn [1998] prison was a place for people awaiting trial, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Pros And Cons Of Network Administrator Abstract Every Single day it is indeed a full time job for the network administrator to keep up with the changing technologies. These new technologies come with new challenges, threats, and vulnerabilities which a smart network administrator must solve to keep the system secure. The network administrator must keep up with new hacking techniques, latest countermeasures, and in depth knowledge of company s data to address the suspicious activities and minimize their effects. But then comes the question of Ethics. Should the network administrator access employees private emails or websites logs to ensure company s rules aren t violated? Is it ok to browse employees documents or graphics files stored on the computers or on file servers? So, the network administrator has both charms and pitfalls as he has a huge responsibility to secure the company by carrying out his duties in an ethical way. This paper explains some ethical and social challenges a future network administrator may encounter in a company. The paper also introduces some basic ways the new network administrator can use to maintain a healthy, trustful, and ethical relationship between his work and the society. ... So, the administrator should educate himself regarding the company s policies, relevant laws, and regulations to make good ethical decisions [3]. For example, one of the employees is selling pirated software to the clients and the other is browsing educational sites to complete his college homework during office hours. These are some of the gray areas which require a judgment call. • 4. Comparing Euro Disney s Fiscal Of Spending Patterns Of... 1.How could the company have erred so badly in its estimates of spending patterns of European customers? In my opinion, these are three main reasons attributing to Euro Disney fail. Firstly, the lack of prior market research and study for European lifestyle and cultural before European Disney built. Euro Disney chose to spend excessive expenditures on the establishmentпјЊbut Euro Disney did not recognize the geographic and cultural differences between Europeans and Americans. For exampleпјЊmost of Europeans will not notice leather wallpaper when they had their lunch in DisneyпјЊand most Europeans are not used to stay overnight in the theme park, so the heavy investment in hotels will bring more risk for Euro Disney. Secondly, higher price did... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The attitude of Disney management is confidently dismissive making them appear out of touch with the cultural differences. 2. Could a better reading of the impact of cultural differences on revenues have been achieved?
Culture difference will influence the number of tourists and the acceptance level of customers. Euro Disney followed the brand policies to the English instructions only, no wine providing in the theme park, high price of ticket, and standardized merchandise and food itemsпјЊconsequently wide spread dissatisfaction among the customers. When a new brand enters different cultures, it is inevitable for customers in new market to repel it or spend much time to accept itпјЊso the new brand should be brought closer to local culture by providing a platform to interact with the brand in customer s terms. Also culture different will bring different consumption patterns, Europeans are likely to spend reasonable price on entertainment, so the price of Euro Disney will be too high to accept and decrease the number of tourists in Euro Disney. Different culture has different drinking and eating habitsпјЊEuro Disney forbad drinking wine in lunch timeпјЊbut most French like to drink wine when they enjoy their meal. All of these elements deriving from culture difference will influence the revenue of Euro Disney and even result in the failure of Euro Disney. 3.What suggestions do you have for fostering a climate of sensitivity and ... • 7. The Death Of Homicide Through Executions Everyone in the world has two things in common. These two things are that everyone starts their life by being born and also everyone ends their life by dying. Now in the way people are born and how they die can vary, but the fact of the matter is they were born and they will die. There are really only two ways people are born which are vaginal or cesarean births. This differs from death because there are more than a million ways to die, including snake bites, car crash, parachute failure when skydiving, or even ironically when there is a complication when giving birth. The different ways people die can be categorized into four groups, natural causes which happen when people s bodies give out; homicide, which is when someone else... Afterward, their lungs would be pulled out and placed on their ribs (Aden, Josh). Though the blood eagle was used because of religious beliefs, not all executions were for that reason. On the other hand some people, during the dark ages were killed because of the plague, they had or people thought they had to make sure they could not pass it on to the next person they came into contact with. Although people were executed for religious and sanitary purposes, one of the biggest reasons for people to be executed was to make a statement. For instance in ancient Rome, they used beasts in the coliseums to kill people they called it damnatio ad bestias. Most of the time these people were prisoners of war to make sure people knew what ultimately happens to the enemies of Rome. Later in medieval England to make statements about traitors they used and execution method know as hanged, drawn, and quartered. This method was when men who committed treason were drug through town on a wood panel and taken to the gallows. They then were hung close to death, and then immediately cut into four pieces in front of everybody (Aden, Josh). • 8. Importance Of Chemical Analysis Of Anthropology Is Not A... Iman Christin Wirawan Professor Stephen Acabado Anthropology 8 24 October 2015 The Importance of Chemical Analysis in Archaeology Anthropology is not a word that crosses people s minds very often, and when it does, it is most often associated with treasure hunting and dinosaurs. Those who have a vague idea of what anthropology that is, the study of human past and all that entails and its subfield, archaeology is, often think of both as one dimensional fields, when in reality, they are so much more. Anthropology is a multi disciplinary field of study combining various sciences, social and otherwise, to work together to paint a complete picture of humankind, one of the most complex species to ever walk on the planet, while archaeology is the study of human past through material remains. It is, therefore, ridiculous to assume that such a tall order can be accomplished by any single discipline. One of the most significant methods of verifying information in anthropology is chemical analysis, which can be used in a variety of ways. This essay will compare and contrast the use of analytical methods to investigate the bronze artifacts associated with the Xiongnu and pre Xiongnu period with those used to analyze the chemical compositions of volcanic rocks for adze production in late precontact Hawaiian archaic states and what the findings imply. Both analyses use energy dispersive x ray spectroscopy to determine the chemical contents of the artifacts to understand their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Nature And Scope Of The Issue Nature and Scope of the Issue An unfortunate reality in today s society is the gross overrepresentation of persons with mental illness in the criminal justice system. According to Teplin (1984), persons with mental illness have been found to be almost twice as likely as individuals without any known mental illness to be arrested for their behavior in similar situations. Furthermore, several other studies have even shown that roughly half of all persons with a mental illness have been arrested at least once in their lifetime (Solomon Draine, 1995; Walsh Bricourt, 2003). Although these statistics seem to further support the common belief among many citizens that mentally ill persons are dangerous criminals, research indicates that the mentally ill are more often arrested for nonviolent minor charges (Cuellar, Snowden, Ewing, 2007). Not surprisingly, a considerable portion of individuals within the criminal justice population have a diagnosable mental illness. According to Ditton (1999), 7% of federal inmates, 16% of state inmates, and 16% of jail inmates have a mental illness. These percentages may be inflated because persons with mental illness tend to spend longer periods of time in custody than those without a mental illness. Perhaps the greatest indication of the brokenness of the system is the fact that there are more mentally ill persons in jails and prisons today than in public psychiatric hospitals (Lamb Bachrach, 2001). In fact, according to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Alice s Wonderland, Through The Looking Glass And The... Alice s Adventures in Wonderland, Through the Looking Glass and The Wizard of Oz are fictional stories about the coming of age. Children relate to these stories and admire both Alice and Dorothy. In what can be assumed are Alice s and Dorothy s dreams, we see various anthropomorphic creatures and animals. There imaginary worlds lead both girls to face situations in which they must think maturely and at the same time lose a bit of their innocence, similar to when a young child takes their first step in becoming their own mature and independent person. When both girls admit for the first time they were not who they were when they first entered their dreams, they took their first step into a new world of decision making and maturity. Alice and Dorothy mature throughout the story and leaving behind the dependence and innocence every person once had. Both girls are coming to the age of independence. Throughout Alice s and Dorothy s journey in wonderland it can be seen that each girl loses the air of innocence they had at the beginning of the story. The stories, Alice s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll and The Wizard of Ozfilm directed by Victor Fleming, all represent a coming of age story where a young girl must go on a journey, let go of her childishness, and mature and face her fears in order to find their way home. Distinguishing what is a dream and what is reality can be difficult. Most times it is obvious that a dream is only a dream. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Effectiveness Of The Rotavirus Vaccine Essay Effectiveness of the rotavirus vaccine in New Zealand infants between 8 weeks and three years old Abstract Background. Rotavirus is a gastrointestinal illness characterized by vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach ache and a fever. Children less than three years old are particularly at risk of dehydration from the sudden vomiting and diarrhoea, which can require hospitalisation. A vaccineagainst rotavirus was recommended globally by WHO in 2009, and it has recently been approved into the New Zealand immunisation schedule. As yet there are no studies following the effectiveness of this vaccine since its introduction using New Zealand study subjects specifically. Methods. In this matched case control study, cases are infants between eight weeks and three years of age who will be seen in a participating ED with rotavirus, confirmed with a positive rotavirus antigen test, between November 2014 and November 2016 in New Zealand. For every case we will enrol 1 or 2 controls who are seen in the same ED without rotavirus and they will be matched for date of birth (within two weeks) and date of visit to ED (within two weeks). Vaccine effectiveness will be calculated by 1 minus the matched odds ratio, multiplied by 100 for the percentage. Jay Gatsby exhibits altruistic qualities, which makes him a Christ figure. Jay Gatsby reveals these qualities towards the end of the novel, when he is willing to take the blame for Daisy killing Myrtle. Acquired immune deficiency syndrome became a terminal epidemic that was quickly stigmatized and feared by the American society. In his Pulitzer prize winning play Angels in America, Tony Kushner showed how AIDSaffected people that were diagnosed with the disease, how it affected their relationships, and just how the people that were branded by society dealt with it when it was first discovered. With this light the gay community began to protest, society saw what life was really like for someone with AIDS, change to better the lives of those infected, and government intervention began to finally end an epidemic. What actions nurses take and do can make a difference in care and determine whether or not care or treatment is effective. According to Rodgers (2015) concepts are important in portraying the character and scope of a discipline (Butts Rich, 2015). However, defining what effectiveness as a concept is, is not unique to nursing. To create a better understanding of the concept of effectiveness, a glimpse at other discipline s and their incorporation of the term is beneficial. Case Examples Walker and Avant (2005) analysis methods advise applying case examples to represent the meaning of a concept. Each of the following cases will further define and create understanding of the concept of effectiveness. First is a model case, showing an ideal use of the concepts. Next will be cases that are similar in a fashion, but not ideal. Finally will be a contrary case, exemplifying what the concept is not. Conclusion In conclusion, effectiveness is a large part of nursing, making improvements in overall health care of patients. The review of effectiveness through definitions, spanning several different disciplines, gives a solid foundation for understanding the concept. • 17. SST Anomalies Essay In the statistical detection of re emergence (section 4.2.1), it was indicated that recurrence of SST anomalies is observed not only in the mid latitudes but also in the tropical ocean. In particular, the south western tropical Pacific ocean shows a significant sign of SST anomaly recurrence. The seasonal variability of MLD is the dominant dynamical process that controls the re emergence in the midlatitudes. However, this shouldn t be the case in the tropical region because the amplitude of the seasonal variability of the MLD is small (Pookkandy et al 2016). So mixed layer dynamics are not directly involved in the observed recurrence of SST anomalies in the tropical ocean. The question arises: what then is the cause of the re emergence of... The integrated surface temperature fields are restored with a damping coefficient of 30 Wm 2K 1, along with the flux correction to match the spectral variance and standard deviation of SSTs to those observed (figures are not shown). Since the ML in this region is relatively shallow, and to avoid seasonal variability in the ML induced by the model physics, we ran the experiment with a 10m prescribed MLD. Figure 4.15 shows the auto correlation of SST anomalies during the cold season for both the Control and 10m constant MLD experiments. Significant signals of re emergence as in the observations (Figure 4.14) do not occur in either of the cases. One has to keep in mind that the generated stochastic atmospheric forces do not show the re appearing pattern seen in the observations. Hence, we couldn t reproduce the re emergence signal in our control simulation. In the next experiment, we ran the model with a generated AR 1 atmospheric heat flux with recurring patterns in May Jun July months (see Figure 4.16). This was achieved by adding a 50 Wm 2 net heat flux to May Jun July months in alternate decades until the model had run 500 years, so that it produces repeating positive anomalies continuously for 10 years and negative anomalies in the following 10 years. • 19. Howl By Ginsberg Essay Constraints of Confinement Trumpets blaring, bass booming, heads swaying to the beat in a tiny jazz club. Creativity is flowing and the Beat Poets of the 1950s are unknowingly establishing a counterculture movement, one that challenges the social norms and politics of their time and even transcends generations to remain relevant today. Poets like Jack Kerouac, William Seward Burroughs, Neal Cassady, and Allen Ginsberg were heavily influenced by jazz, adopting their seedy dress, manners, and hip vocabulary ( Beat Movement ) that changed their lifestyle and helped write their poetry. Specifically, Allen Ginsberg s poem Howl, is often regarded as the anthem of 1950s Beats ( Howl | Poem by Ginsberg ), a poem unstructured and free flowing to reflect Ginsberg s experiences. In Howl, Allen Ginsberg uses unique language and changes his tone throughout the poem in an attempt to break the constraints of confinement and seek his own forms of freedom. From the outset of Howl, Part I takes on a tone of delirium as the Beat Poets, sometimes referred to as the best minds or simply they , ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The tone of anger prevails in particularly in line 91, describing dreams, adorations, and illuminations as the whole boatload of sensitive bullshit that no one seems to care about. • 20. Islam And Democracy Benazir Bhutto Islam and Democracy: A Reflection In the essay entitled Islam and Democracy , Benazir Bhutto argues that democracy and Islam are not mutually exclusive ideas, but can coexist peacefully. She provides ample evidence to back up this theory, citing both the Quran and the Constitution of Pakistan. Bhutto also provides the reader with reasons she believes the two are so rarely seen together. She attributes this to both religious extremism and the hypocritical policies of western countries; in particular, she points out the United States talent for supporting freedom in other countries only when it directly benefits the U.S. economy. To give the reader some background information, Bhutto displays an excerpt from the preamble of Pakistan s Constitution. After defining Pakistan as an Islamic nation by stating that sovereignty over the entire Universe belongs to Almighty Allah (qtd. in Jacobus 175), the Constitution goes on to lay out some beliefs that coincide with those of Western democracy. The document claims that the principles of democracy, freedom, equality, tolerance, and social justice... shall be fully observed... (and the citizens of Pakistan) shall be guaranteed fundamental rights, including... social, economic, and political justice, and freedom of thought, expression, belief; faith, worship, and association (175). The preamble goes on to declare Pakistan (is)... a democratic State based on Islamic principles of social justice... dedicated to the preservation of democracy (175 176). This passage presents the reader with the idea that, fundamentally, Islamic and democratic values correspond. The Quran, Islam s foundation, also preaches many of the values familiar to democracy. Bhutto references the Quran, stating (Allah)... created people of different views and perspectives... and that diversity is good (178). She goes on to offer her interpretation of the holy book, saying the message of the Quran empowers people with rights (democracy) (178). By using multiple references, Bhutto establishes her knowledge of the governing body of Pakistan and the Islamic religion. It is difficult for the reader to doubt her authority on the subject. This leads the reader to a question: if the ideals of Islam and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Office workers in Mound, Minnesota, may be aware of the importance of the ergonomic keyboard and mouse to prevent carpal tunnel syndrome and other repetitive stress disorders. However, these are merely the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the health problems researchers have linked to prolonged sitting. High blood sugar The Washington Post reports that poor posture does contribute to a variety of spinal issues, such as neck strain and muscle tissue damage. However, studies show that even at an ergonomic station, the pancreas is negatively affected. That organ produces insulin to help the body regulate the amount of sugar in the blood. When a person sits for hours at a time, muscles stop responding the way they should to insulin, and that prompts the pancreas to go into overdrive. As a result, the risk for diabetes rises. Low mental function Unused muscles take a toll in other areas of the body, as well. Fat is not burned as efficiently when muscle movement is restricted, and that leads to sluggish blood flow and less oxygen in the brain. Lower mental capacity is one side effect, and depression may follow, since the body does not produce the chemicals that improve mood and outlook. Cancer According to Time Magazine, a recent analysis of 43 studies indicates a clear link between sitting for hours during the day, and colon, lung and endometrial cancer. Flying Airplane was a piece like many other works of arts that were a part of Malevich s many suprematism compositions. This painting was one of Malevich s very famous works of arts that represented many things to him, and held sentimental value due to the fact that it held many meanings. Kazimir Malevich, born on february 23, 1879 and died on May 15 1915, was a russian painter and art theoretician. He was the creator of the avant garde suprematism movement. 1915 Malevich created a large amount of suprematism paintings. He created many beautiful works of art that transformed from cubism to suprematism. Malevich became a member of the collegium on the arts of narkompros, the commission for the protection of monuments and the museums commission Hence, to the Suprematist, the appropriate means of representation is always the one which gives fullest possible expression to feeling as such and which ignores the familiar appearance of objects. • 45. Gilpin And Fiscal Unlike Strange, Gilpin denies the notion that the nation state has been undermined by the rise of international organizations and nongovernmental actors. While some research suggests that the market is wrestling with the state for control over the commanding heights of the economy, Gilpin disagrees and argues that the nation state continues to be the major actor in both domestic and international affairs (Barma and Vogel, p. 535). The claim that the economic globalization and transnational economic forces are declining the authority of the states is exaggerated, he says; for better or for worse, this is still a state dominated world Barma and Vogel, p. 536). If there was an argument to be made about the declining power of the states, it would be the decades prior to World War I when markets were truly supreme and governments had little power over economic affairs (Barma and Vogel, p. 537). • 46. Quality Matters Related Issues And Course Design ENV 1053 and ENV 1073 Quality Matters related issues/course design: There are no major issues related to Quality Matters; I will touch upon a few of the design issues that came up during the review. One of the really good things about these courses is in the incorporation of case studies. Each week or chapter features a case study that s taken right from the course textbook. I ve advocated in other courses for the use of case studies and I think this course serves as a starting point to incorporate them into these other courses. The challenge I think here is that while the case studies are incorporated into the students final grade, the stakes are so low that students may complete only a few or none of the case studies. However the overall grade for discussion forums /case studies is only 4% of the final grade. As such students can complete none of the discussion forums/case studies and still receive a strong grade in the course. My suggestion would be to limit the number of case studies to four, and create case studies that combine several of the weeks for units into one, each worth 2 1/2% of the final grade. Students not completing any of the case studies as a result we ll lose 10% of their final grade. This is enough to make or break a student s grade, between b and a. My suggestion is similar for the critical thinking questions that are part of each week s activities. There are a lot of them and they count for very little in terms of course grade(s). There is ... • 49. In The Twelfth Night Film Directed By Trevor Nunn, There In the Twelfth Night film directed by Trevor Nunn, there are differences between the sequencing of the scenes, lines of characters, and character stage directions/movements compared to the original text. Directors use film adaptations to enhance the writer s intended meaning hidden in the original text, however, Trevor Nunn altered the meaning of a Shakespearean comedy. Shakespearean comedies are characterized as entertaining plays centered around a person of power, who delivers a statement of harsh judgment and must make amends, and the comedies usually end in marriage. In Twelfth Night, Orsino, the Duke of Illyria, passes harsh judgment towards Lady Olivia by telling his servant, Cesario, to be clamorous and leap all civil bounds/... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the scene, Orsino asks Feste to sing a song that dallies with the innocence of love (1212, l. 46) and as Feste sings, Orsino and Viola slowly come together and eventually their lips touch as Feste s song is ending. During this scene, Nunn upholds the comedic attributes of the play itself by adding in the facial expressions of Feste as he sings his song and realizes what is happening; however, Nunn also adds in the motion of Orsino and Cesario slowly coming together and kissing. The addition of Orsino and Cesario s stage directions takes away from the overall comedic aspect of the play, and shifts into an aspect of the play that is focused on love and romance. Nunn also provides an intimate setting to the scene by placing the characters in a dimly lit shed. In the original text, Curio makes the comment that Feste is about the house (1211), which suggests that Feste is situated in Orsino s home, however in the film it is shown that he is located in a shed near a cliff overlooking the ocean. This change in the setting from being in a house, to being cliff side overlooking the ocean creates a romantic setting for the audience. Furthermore, the dim shed setting provides a sense of privacy and intimacy for the audience and essentially sets the mood for the events that take place during Feste s song. To the audience their kiss is a perfect addition because it soothes the romantic tension ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Inoculation may also have been practiced by scratching substances from a smallpox sore into the skin (Bazin, 2000). Inoculation of diseases in that way was not always effective. More than half of the people who performed that process died. Inoculation was all they had back then, but it came with a cost the small amount of people who were inoculated and lived ended up spread the diseases rapidly because they were not quarantined properly. However a man by the name of Dr. Edward Jenner in 1798 took the next step by introducing inoculation with scabs not from small pox but from something similar. He was the one responsible for creating the vaccine for smallpox (Glynn, 2004). Dr. Jenner noticed that the girls or women employed to milk dairy cows who had previously caught cowpox did not later contract smallpox. He then created an experiment where he chose a boy by the name of James Phipps who was just eight at the time as his subject and infected him with cowpox. The child was sick for a while, but then he was perfectly healthy. Jenner then inoculated the boy again with fresh scabs from a smallpox infected human. Later the boy did not contract the disease (Bazin, 2000). This led to the creation of the vaccine, which over time ended up eradicating the disease Apparently, the term vaccine actually came from the smallpox epidemic.
