Elizabethan Era Masquerade
Masques and Masquerades of the Elizabethan Era 1. History behind the Masques and
Masquerades The masque which the idea wasn t originated in the Elizabethan era was taken from
the design and style of the Italian Renaissance in the 15th century. There were also performers
called Mummers during the early medieval times that would reenact stories all in mime. They re
attire wasn t nearly as embellished as those in the Elizabethan era they usually just kept it simple
especially the masks weren t decorated whatsoever, the main purpose of them was to primarily keep
the performers face hidden.. Masques then developed into a form of entertainment for the
Elizabethan court members and they had actors that would dress up elaborately with these intricate
embellished masks. They would precede to perform songs and dances retelling stories/speeches
most of the time it was to honor the Queen and if it was dedicated to her she would attend them.
But, other occasions the theme would be pastoral, fairytales, or portraying mythological tales. 2.
How Masques transcended into Masquerades Eventually, Masque turned into something more
extravagant, Masquerades. In which everyone could participate it was held in these huge ballrooms

Princes were advised by their mothers not to go in case they might fall in love with a low class

Others wanted the prices to get into Masquerades to be put up in order to make sure the other

How to Drive Manual Car Essay
Outline
Manual Transmission Cars
Purpose To explain to the class about manual transmission cars and how to drive one.
Central Idea Driving a manual transmission car is very different from driving an automatic
transmission car
I. Introduction
Today about 6 million people drive a car in the United States, but the percentage of those people that
drive a manual transmission is significantly less than those who drive automatic. In every country
in Europe, and perhaps in the world, manual cars are a common sight. However, here in the
U.S.A. finding a manual car and someone who knows how to drive one is like looking for a needle
in a haystack. Although they are not as common as an automatic car,... Show more content on

Cars often have 4 gears and a reverse gear.
Transition: Ok so lets pretend we got into a manual car, we adjusted our mirrors, we put on our
seatbelts and now we re ready to go somewhere.
C. To get moving onto the road there are some things that we have to do. a. First off, we have to
release the Emergency Break.
i. Failure to do so might result in damage to the transmission and engine.
b. Next we have to step on the clutch pedal and shift the car to first gear.
c. Then we have to slowly release the clutch and start pressing on the gas pedal.
Transition: Next thing you know you re moving, but your car is starting to roar, time to change gear.
D. Changing gear from 1st to 2nd is much easier than the initial start. a. First, you step on the
clutch pedal. b. Next, you chose your gear. c. Then, you have to press on the gas lightly while
releasing the clutch
i. Note that this has to be done quickly, but not too quickly otherwise the car will give kickback
Transition: Sounds easy right? It took me about a month to fully understand it.
III. Conclusion
From what I ve been through if you ever want to learn to drive stick shift I highly recommend you
go to a driving school that teaches manual because they wont yell at you or call you names. Also,
it can be discouraging and depressing at first because you will stall a lot, that s when the

Ernest Everett Just, an African American biologist, was born on August 14, 1883 in Charleston,
South Carolina to Charles Frazier Just Jr. and Mary Matthews Just, who gave birth to a stillborn
child and both a boy and a girl before Just was born, making Just the youngest of three children.
Sadly, however, both of his older siblings died approximately two months after he was born due

made fairly significant breakthroughs in specific areas of science that would include the role of
environmental factors in development; he investigated the effect of a number of variables dilute or

The Current Makeup Of The Texas Dream Act
The first policy alternative, the status quo, is to not repeal or change the current makeup of the
Texas Dream Act. Texas awards around $9 million in grants and scholarships, which are paid from
the appropriations made by the legislature every two years. This might seem like a large amount but
that cost is merely a fraction of the net profit the states makes off of undocumented students paying
tuition at universities across the state. By not changing the policy Texaswould expect to attain $56.1
million in tuition revenue from the undocumented students attending universities in Texas. Besides
the tuition revenue, Texas would expect to see another $65 billion from wages, salaries and
business earning by undocumented immigrants. The extra... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

On the other hand, US citizens from other states cannot pay in state tuition rates, so that is unfair
to them. A way to solve this issue perhaps would be to create a public policy to allow US
students to pay the same tuition rate across the US. In total, alternative 1 scores 2.05 out of 3.0.
The policy is of low cost to the state, brings in a large amount of revenue, and is relatively fair to
the parties involved and affected.
The second policy alternative received the lowest overall score for many reasons. Its efficiency
score is 0.5 although it does save the state $9 million every two years, but it cost the states more
maintain this population because without college education a large portion of the students will find
themselves incarcerated, with more health problems, and having more children earlier in their lives.
This policy is a means to an end, however the end result puts the state in a worse situation than it
currently is in. The cost benefit score is 0.35 because without the education the students are not able
to acquire the necessary skills to attract big name employers such as Google, Accenture, and even
Toyota who are presently looking for top talent. Also, the state would lose an estimated $56.1
Billion from the immigrant students and their parents, however that s not the only thing on the line.

Rhetorical Analysis Of Salynda E. Fleury s Law
Rhetoric is a powerful tool in which can be used to influence an audience through words. How the
speaker presents his or her argument ultimately depends on the rhetorical tools used. Here, the
Supreme Court presents an interesting observation on the accounts of the Fleury case in which the
plaintiff Salynda E. Fleury argues avalanches are not an inherent danger and riskof skiing. The
following is a great example of how the supreme court attempts to persuade the audience though
specific elements that drives the brief forward. The defendant s answering brief attempts to analyze
the plain language of the Ski Safety Act and its sections, most notably section 33 44 103(3.5)

Second, the audience can already tell which argument the speaker is going to make: avalanches
are an inherent risk and danger of skiing. This helps benefit the brief because it quickly tells
readers what to expect from the brief as well as where the speaker stands on the issue of avalanches
either being or not being an inherent risk or danger of skiing. The introduction ends with the author
arguing that
The author uses the rhetorical tool Pathos to help drive the argument. This is seen when describing
the unpredictability of avalanches. The speaker notes, Due to this unpredictability ( of avalanches
occurring), trained professional ski patrollers are killed and/or seriously injured every year trying to
minimize avalanche danger and make the slopes safer for the public (7). Using a pathetic
approach, the speaker invokes the audience s emotion to approve or agree to the argument
presented, using the tragedies of ski patrollers in doing so.
Another effective technique the author uses is referencing examples of inherent dangers in regard
to avalanches. The author references three cases in which avalanches occurred on ski areas to show
how avalanches themselves are unpreventable from occurring. This helps benefit the argument
since it emphasizes the reality of ski patrollers being helpless when avalanches occur and therefore
something that is unavoidable.
Some concerns regarding the brief have to do with

Biblical Theme Of The Old Testament V. New Testament
Thematic Biblical Theme
An Analysis of Son of Man perceptions in the Old Testament v. New Testament
Alejandro Londono
(Professor)
(University)
6 Nov 2014
The term Son of Man is translated differently by the prophets, apostles, and people of the Old
Testament when compared to how the term is viewed in the New Testament. In analyzing how the
terms are perceived during these times, it becomes possible to trace the theme of the Son of Man,
and how it was viewed in the Old Testament, to how the Son of Man has been viewed in the New
Testament. In observing these differences, one can clearly see the term had similar meanings, but
was represented in a different fashion, depending on the peoples and circumstances of the time
period. In analyzing these occasions in which the term Son of Man is used throughout the two
testaments, it will become clear as to their intended, and actual interpretations.
In the Old Testament, it is Ezekiel who is the protagonist, in a sense. This becomes apparent,
because Ezekiel plays such a vital role to the message behind the books of the Old Testament.
Ezekiel was a man as God had intended, and can also be viewed as the coming savior in the Old
Testament (Morris Henry, Ph.D., 1 3). The importance of Ezekiel is soon observed, and as
noticed in chapter 2, verse 1 of the book Ezekiel of the Old Testament, God commands Ezekiel to
stand, so that he may be commissioned as a prophet for the peoples of Israel (UcoG,

Similar Themes in Things Fall Apart and The Second Coming
The novel Things Fall Apart examines African culture before the colonial infiltration. Achebe s
novel forces us to examine the customs and traditions that make up an informal culture. At times we
may find some their practices appalling, but Achebe makes us realize that the traditions and
customs are what essentially hold the Ibo together. Achebe wrote Things Fall Apart with the
intention of changing the common view of African culture. He wrote the novel from an insider s
perspective, revealing that African culture was not solely based on barbaric and mindless rituals.

Achebe portrays the life of the Ibo tribe before the first touch of the white men. Before the
colonial infiltration the Ibo had a very cyclic view of time. Their beleifs and rituals were
practiced the same rit at the same time every year. Where as the white man s traditions and view
of time were much more linear. Right from the Ibo s first encounter with the whites, the reader
can observe the cycle as being unchangeably altered. It is the coming of thei missionaries which
brings the disruption. After thousands of years of unviolated and untouched traditions, Okonkwo
returns after just seven years of exile and finds his village turned upside down. In addition, the
Ibo people fail to recognize him as a leader. Their new religon and government and trading stores
were very much in the people s eyes and minds, the talked and though about little else.. The whites
swept away the Ibo tradition and heritage. Here, Okonkwo can be seen as the falconer as depicted
in Yeatspoem. He was once looked upon as a respected leader, but now the falcon the Ibo people do

women being the secondary character it was opposite and the men are secondary. Now these themes
are contrasting due to the time period in which both the novels were written in.

Dear Chronicle Books; Submissions Editor,
The law of attraction is a growing trend. Though many people read the books tailored towards
this law they fail to attract into their life what they desire. They have the knowledge to use this
law yet they don t practice it. Knowledge isn t a capacity of knowing but rather a capacity of

in books including The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success by Deepak Chopra and The Secret by
Rhonda Bryne, psychological studies I examined while I was in University, and various
documentaries including The Secret on Netflix. These sources have a very powerful and effective

Sustainable Development Within A Business
Sustainable development in a business, although a widely used phrase and idea, has many different
meanings and therefore provokes many different responses. Although managing the economic
bottom line and protecting social and environment resources is an important aspect of sustainability,
it is not the only aspect. For example, sustainabilityrefers greatly to an accounting framework with
three parts: social, environment and financial. Commonly known as the Triple Bottom Line. One
business that aims to achieve this concept is Cascade Engineering. The CEO, Mark Miller (2014)
considers the concept of sustainability as the three interconnected gears in motion . Each category
is an interdependent, innovation enabling mechanism. Sustainability has been an often mentioned
goal of business, non profits and governments in the past decade, yet measuring the degree to which
an organization is being sustainable or pursuing sustainable growth can be difficult. In broad terms,
sustainable developmentis an attempt to combine growing concerns about a range of environmental
issues with socio economic issues.
The widespread rise of interest in, and support for, the concept of sustainable development is
potentially an important shift in understanding relationships of humanity with nature between
people. It is in contrast to the dominant outlook of the last couple of hundred years, especially in
the North , that has been based on the view of the separation of the environment from

Professor Woland is frequently referred to in the novel as a foreigner. When he arrives and
begins talking with Berlioz and Ivan about the existence or nonexistence of God and Jesus, he is

hardship in the Soviet Union under Stalin. It was written at the height of Stalin s reign of terror.
The novel reveals the freedom of the spirit in an unfree world. When professor Woland tells Ivan

much of Soviet life. In terms of the structure of The Master and Margarita, the figure of Ivan has

Hyundai not only focuses on where their ad will be placed but they also focus on who their audience
will be. Sports Illustrated reaches the particular audience of male sports fans, of which most can
be placed into the upper and middle social classes. For the purpose of this advertisement,
Hyundai specifically targeted football fans, especially NFL fans. Since the majority of the
subscribers are in the upper and middle class, due to their ability to afford the expense of the

##jection Of Men In The Metamorphosis, The Overcoat, And...
Certain pieces of literature studied indicate a consistent theme of the subjection of men. Writers of
literary works such as The Metamorphosis, The Overcoat, and American Beauty definitively
succeed in portraying a somewhat pathetic protagonist male and how that male is ostracized by the
people in his surrounding environment. In all three pieces, the subjugated men react in various
ways. These men either rise up and liberate themselves by taking an effective standpoint on their
desiderates or let others prevail in subduing their desires and frame them as the inept and fallacious
component of society. However, all three characters, Gregor Samsa, Akaky Akakievich
Bashmachkin, and Lester Burnham fate lead to a considerably likewise peculiar outcome. In The
Metamorphosis, Franz Kafka consigns a compelling character analysis of Gregor Samsa, a traveling
salesman with an abysmal hatred for his job. Kafta initiates the short story with a metaphorical
setting in which the protagonist, Gregor, is mysteriously turned into a monstrous vermin . The
metamorphosis of Gregor into cockroach represents the loss of control Gregor feels in his life and
his judgment on himself by his defeated humanity because of the commitments he must abide by in
order to support his family. Though Gregor is horrified by his unexpected transformation, he comes
to accept his condition and modify his attitude to fit the situation. Even though his transformation

National Security Agency
The National Security Agency
Many have wondered why America is so great and one of those reasons is because of the NSA.
The National Security Agency was founded on November 4, 1952 and continues today. The NSA is
an intelligence organization of the United States government, responsible for global monitoring,
collection, and processing of information. There are many different opinions about the NSA and the
work that they do. The National Security Agency is, in fact, a good thing because it provides
national security and supports the military.
Without the NSA, our country could face some major issues such as the middle eastern countries
and many more. It protects us from terrorism and everything that comes with it. In 2014 an article
was released describing that the NSA has stopped fifty four terrorist attacks with mass spying. One

Organic Vs. Organic Agriculture
Observers of agriculture have noted the increase in popularity for organic products. However, is it
possible for this growth in the organic industry to be sustainable and profitable? Some notable
studies include, yield, price premium, demand, cost, etc. In this paper, organic to conventional
agriculture will be investigated. Given that organic agricultureis still in its infancy, demand for
organics will continue to grow despite for lower yield and higher premium cost. Additionally, since
demand for organic agriculture will continue to grow, cost will be marginal compare to benefits.
The following literature reviews will attempt to demonstrate and support this hypothesis.
In a research article by Perez and Plattner, the industry for organic fruits and vegetables is
expanding. The United States organic food sector grew by an estimated $2.5 billion in 2011, which
half of the growth came from the fruit and vegetable category. Furthermore, organic fruit and
berry sales grew at a faster pace compare to all organic crops and livestock commodities. However,
despite this impressive growth, sales for organic fruits and berries range between 3 to 4% of total
United States fruits and berries, implying room for future growth. (Perez et Pl, 2013)
Greene wrote several articles that validates the increase demand for organics. Since 2002, when the
national standards for organic production and processing was established, United States demand for
organic produce has grown significantly.

Summary Of Three Girls By Oates
It was like a child s game in which you stare at foliage, grass, clouds in the sky, and suddenly you
see a face or a figure, and after that recognition you can t not see the hidden shape, its staring you
in the face. (Oates, 95)
Oates Three Girls tells the story of two girl poets in the Strand Bookstore in Manhattan on a snowy
day in March of 1956. They wander through the aisles of poetry, with commentary about various
poets and collections of poetries and how they reflected on the girl poets . We were girl poets
passionately enamored of T.S. Eliot but scornful of Robert Frost, whom we d been made to
memorize in high school Slyly we communicated in code phrases from Eliot in the presence of
obtuse others in our dining hall and residence. (Oates, 92) Suddenly she is pulled from her
thoughts, as her friend touches her wrist and guides her further into the store to stumble upon
Marilyn Monroe. From here, the girl poets follow her discretely, with a commentary of how
Monroe s discretion was so much different form how she was normally seen. She was, at that
moment, not a garnish blond showgirl , but rather this woman was an individual wholly absorbed
in selecting, leafing through, pausing to read books (Oates, 93) They continue to follow her until
she reaches the storefront, where they volunteer to pay for her books to keep the secret of her
being here. From there they return her books to her outside, with her gifting them the Selected
Poems of Marianne Moore before departing. The story closes with the two girl poets sharing their
first kiss.
The chosen quote, ( It was like a child s game in which you stare at foliage, grass, clouds in the sky,
and suddenly you see a face or a figure, and after that recognition you can t not see the hidden
shape, its staring you in the face. (Oates, 95)) plays not only to the main plot of the story (the girl
poets discovering Marilyn Monroe in the Strand Bookstore), but also to the subplot (the girl poets
sharing their first kiss and becoming lovers) as well. It applies to the main plot very clearly
through two sides: that though by this point in the story only the girl poets have discovered it is
Monroe, the realization that others could at moment s

the beauties and mysteries of the earth are never alone or weary of life (Rachel Carson). Rachel
Carson s quote reveals to us that nature is beautiful, powerful, mysterious, and extraordinary. This is
expressed in the poems Ode to Enchanted Light and Sleeping in the Forest. The poem Ode to
Enchanted Light by Pablo Neruda and the poem Sleeping the Forest both contain a mood, a tone,
figurative language, a certain structure, and a theme. Both poems have those elements, however,

Pablo Neruda praises light at the beginning of the poem twice with figurative language. He states
Light like a green latticework of branches and Drifting down like clean white sand. By stating
this, Neruda is telling us that light is beautiful and pure. So the theme of this ode is that light
should be praised, is beautiful, and is important. In the same way, Mary Oliver uses figurative
language throughout the poem to convey the theme of her poem. Mary Oliver states I thought
the earth remembered me, she took me back so tenderly. Oliver is trying to convey the idea of
mother nature taking her kindly and gently. Another piece of figurative language in Sleeping in
the Forest that reveals the poem s theme is By morning I had vanished at least at least a dozen
times into something better. This hyperbold reveals to us that Oliver s mind went to a better place
while she was in nature, meaning that nature is relieving a stress free. Therefore, the theme of
Sleeping in the Forest is that nature is a better place to be in and nature is peaceful. The themes of
Ode to Enchanted Light and Sleeping in the Forest are both about the beauties of nature, however,
one is about sleeping and darkness while the other one is about light. These themes tell reader that
the poets have a positive and loving perspective towards nature.

The Transformation Of American Law Essay
Horwitz, in The Transformation of American Law: 1780 1860, argues that a commercial elite class
worked with judges during the antebellum period to shift American law doctrine from anti
commercial to pro commercial doctrines. These new doctrines benefitted the commercial elites and
forced America to adopt capitalism over the original moral economy that was in place prior to the
beginning shift in American law in the 1780 s. Horwitz breaks the book up into eight distinct
chapters, focusing on the changing conception of law, a new conception of property, creating
economic growth through the legal system itself, competition and economic development, the
relationship between the bar and commercial interests, the emergence of contracts, the development
of commercial law, and the rise of legal formalism. The first chapter details the changing concepts of
American law in that instrumentalism became popular. Horwitz shows that judges move away
from following precedent around the turn of the century and instead were focusing on their own
interpretations of the law. This is shown through judges issuing new trials on account of juries
issuing verdicts that they believed did not fit with the evidence provided in the trials (29). Juries
during this time were increasingly side lined during the trial process. The second chapter has
Horwitz looking back to the agrarian economy and the doctrines surrounding property, detailing
how these doctrines shifted to an understanding of

A Worldwide Problem Of Global Warming
Electric Cars There is a worldwide problem of Global Warming. It is increasing day after day,
harming our planet s atmosphere by reducing the strength of the ozone layer. Global warming is
putting all basic human needs in jeopardy. There are various reasons behind global warming.
One of the major reasons is fuel engine cars and trucks we use in our everyday lives. Fuel engine
cars leave a trail of unhealthy monoxide gas as the result of combustion in the engine. Carbon
Monoxide is one of many gases which is harmful to the ozone layer. Global warmingis already
causing high temperatures, rising sea levels, floods, and droughts. To help reduce the effects of
the fuel engine cars on our environment we should start using electric cars. Electric cars run on
rechargeable batteries which do not leave a trail of carbon monoxide. Electric cars are fuel
efficient vehicles which use less gas to travel the same distance as their less efficient counterparts.
When we burn less fuel, we generate fewer emissions. When emissions go down, the pace of
global warming slows. Cleaner fuels produce fewer emissions when they are burned. Some fuels
such as those made from biofuels can reduce emissions by 80 percent compared to gasoline, and
cleaner extraction techniques can ensure that dirty fuel like oil doesn t get dirtier. Electric cars
will also help many countries stop fighting over fuel and also give countries independence. Electric
cars should be globalized so that it helps create a

My proposed topic of holistic wellness was not specifically addressed through the National
Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) website. As a result, I decided to focus on anxiety. One
definition of anxiety is a constant feeling of worry, nervousness, or uneasiness that lasts at least 6

Femme Fatale in Film Noir
The term film noir was coined by French critics for 1940s 50s American films that shared a dark
sensibility and a dark lighting style, such as Double Indemnity (1944), Out of the Past (1947), and
The Postman Always Rings Twice (1946). Many theorists related the common noir attributes and
aesthetic elements to a post war society characterised by insecurity about gender roles, the economy,
changing definitions of race, and nuclear technology. One of the cultural problems the term genre
attempts to address is the gender question. The familiarity of the femme fatalecharacter across film
noiris the predominant cause for discussion amongst feminist theorists. Feminist theorists became,
and still remain, interested in the woman s portrayal in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The classic femme fatale in forced to resort to murder to free herself from an unbearable
relationship with a man who would try to possess and control her, as if she were a piece of
property or a pet. According to Sylvia Harvey, author of Women s place: The absent family, the
women of film noir are presented as prizes, desirable objects for the leading men of these films.
The femme fatale s unique power is her brazen willingness and ability to express herself in sexual
terms. By this the femme fatale threatens the status quo, and the hero, because she controls her
own sexuality outside of marriage. She uses sex for pleasure and as a weapon or a tool to control
men, not merely in the culturally acceptable capacity of procreation within marriage. Her sexual
emancipation commands the gaze of the hero, the audience, and the camera in a way that cannot be
erased by her final punishment. Attempts to neutralise the power and blatant sexuality of the
femme fatale by destroying her at the end are usually unsuccessful, because her power extends
beyond death. Noir films immediately convey the intense sexual presence of the femme fatale by
introducing her as a fully established object of the hero s obsession. Since the camera often
represents the hero s subjective memory, revealed

For instance,
Emperor Nero is reported to have engaged in a marriage ceremony with one of his male slaves.
Emperor Elagabalus married a Carian slave named Hierocles.
It should be noted, however, that conubium existed only between a civis Romanus and a civis
Romana (that is, between a male Roman citizen and a female Roman citizen), so that a so called
marriage between two Roman males (or with a slave) would have no legal standing in Roman law
(apart, presumably, from the arbitrary will of the emperor in the two aforementioned cases).
Furthermore, matrimonium is an institution involving a mother, mater.
The idea implicit in the word is that a man takes a woman in marriage, in matrimonium ducere, so
that he may have children by her. Still, the lack of legal validity notwithstanding, there is a
consensus among modern historians that same sex relationships existed in ancient Rome, but the
exact frequency and nature of same sex unions during that period is obscure.
In 342 AD Christian emperors Constantius II and Constans issued a law in the Theodosian Code
(C. Th. 9.7.3) prohibiting same sex marriage in Rome and ordering execution for those so married.
The first documented same sex marriage was between the two men Pedro DГaz and MuГ±o
Vandilaz, in the Galician municipality of Rairiz de Veiga in Spain, on April 16, 1061. They were

Socialization And Immigrants During The Gilded Age
The Gilded Age was a time period in the history of the United States in which a large number of
serious social problems rose about. In the North and the West especially, this was also a time of
rapid growth. During this time, a lot of immigrants came to the United States as well. To them,
America was seen as the land of opportunity. In their home countries, the working conditions were
terrible and they had very low wages, so they came to America in hopes of a better life. Little did
they know, the United Stateswas not much better for them. Although, with a large amount of
workers now in the United States, some skilled and others unskilled, it allowed industry to expand
and consolidate. During the Gilded Age, industry expanded and became stronger over time,
resulting in workers coming together and organizing themselves into unions and forcing the federal
government to step away from practicing laissez faire capitalism.
This time period really began when a new type of business organization came about. People,
called entrepreneurs, would start their own business and use large scale production with the end
goal of lowering the prices of goods and allowing them to make a huge profit on it. Some people
during this time would call these entrepreneurs robber barons because of the the low wages that
they paid their workers in combination with their terrible tactics to destroy their competition. Many
business owners were also philanthropists. These were the people that donated the money that they
made to good causes. One person who is an example of this is Andrew Carnegie, who supported the
ideas of the Gospel of Wealth and believed that the more fortunate and wealthy people had the
responsibility of giving back to society. Some of these business owners were accused of having a
monopoly, which is having complete control over the supply of a product or service. Overall, this
industrialization lead to more goods at a faster rate, which greatly contributed to the rise of big
businesses. These businesses lead to a greater profit, which lead to bigger business, which
eventually lead to corporations.
Industry also expanded and came together in terms of economic practices. For example, one type
of economic practice was a

Symptoms Of Dementia Essay
As we age, various disorders can affect how well our brains function. Dementia is one of the most
common brain disorders that seniors experience. Certain health conditions can cause dementia. For
example, chronic high blood pressure, previous stroke or blood vessel disease can lead to vascular

Causes of Dementia
Many times, dementia is not the result of just one condition, but several. For instance, the
combination of Alzheimer s disease, strokes, Parkinson s disease and depression may lead to
dementia.

Analysis Of Rita Hayworth And The Shawshank Redemption
In Rita Hayworth and The Shawshank Redemption the prison acts as a microcosm reflecting the
structures of the capitalist society to what extent do you agree with this view?
One critic named Terry Eagleton, stated It is capitalism, not Marxism that trades in futures. This
quote alone suggests the extent of what capitalism is to some Marxist critiques and this one is
suggesting that the future is traded upon capitalism which relates to King s Rita Hayworth and the
Shawshank Redemption as the prison system does determine the future of inmates yet inside the
prison there is a capitalist structure. I will look at a plethora of characters in the novella and
explore how their roles in the prison are used to reflect capitalist society: Andy a bourgeoisie
socially but a proletariat politically, Red who goes under the system whom also, serves the
proletariat even though he is one himself and the warden that uses his role as the bourgeoisie for
corruption and power over the inmates. Despite the inmates being in a confined space and managed
by the outside world. It could be argued that the Shawshank prison is formulating a society of their
own.
Kings use of the character, Andy, is vague. As it could be argued that his role changes
throughout the novella. It could be said that there are many interpretations to where Andy s
character develops as he can be measured by his political and social class as we see done by the
prisoners and the wider society. Reiman wrote a book titled the rich get richer and the poor get
prison this pragmatically shows that those who are poor go to prison. However, this is not the
case with Andy due to the fact before he was in prison he was a successful banker so in fact he
was not poor, opposing the view, that Reiman is signifying. Somewhat suggesting that King is
stating that society could have an impact on any group of people regardless of what the
backgrounds are or the backgrounds of the individual. Andy was a banker before he came to the
Shawshank prison. In some lens he would be perceived as a bourgeoisie because of the class that
would have been in. However, from a political lens it would be evident that Andy could be a
proletariat for the ranks of the company that he had

Ludwig Wittgenstein s Word Games
Introduction:
It is a common tendency for philosophers to invent their own vernacular, usually giving new
connotations and definitions to terms we find ordinary. An instance of this is Heidegger s Dasein .
He takes two very common German words: Da , meaning there and sein , meaning to be , but
Dasein has the heavy connotation of not only physically existing there, but being present in a
multitude of ways (Heidegger, 1927). Another example is from Foucault expanding the word
government not simply in the common notion of managing a country, but further to the ability to
govern one s self or one s family through discipline or common ground (Foucault, 1979)
Denoting particular connotations onto existing words enables philosophers to give voice to
meanings that would be trying or even impossible to say, but the redefining of words can also bring
confusion to the reader. As Lois Shawver points out in his article Postmodernizing the Unconscious,
if one, as the reader, gives into the assumption that the language is used in the usual way, then the
philosopher s words will appear to be outlandish and enigmatic (Shawver, 1998).
This begs the question: how does the reader then know if the writer is using an ordinary term or
their newly defined meaning of that same term? In order to make this distinction and to understand
of the redefined and coined terms, one must read with an intentional awareness of the terms.
Wittgenstein understands this difficulty and aids his readers

Khe Sanh Australian Poem Analysis
Hello ladies and gentlemen, I am here to bring forth some poems that represent our beautiful
country for the Australian day anthology. Australians identity is a wonderful thing with our mate
ship and way of life respected throughout the world. Our acknowledgement of our past makes us the
country we are and creates the country we have, with the pride shared between all who happily call
Australia there home. These poems explore our country s pride through times of hardship, this
being the Vietnamwar. And how our strong mate ship and pride helped us prevail through this time.
These are very clear throughout the poems becoming clear staple pieces for this era.
The first poem is the song, Khe Sanh by Cold Chisel written in 1978 and based upon the post
stress of the Vietnam war, created on everyone involved. It expresses how life was for the war
veterans after this dreadful war they just endured, showing the struggle fitting back into a normal
society. It explores the journey of a VET combating this stress. They try to suppress it but no
matter how hard they try to this doesn t work. So, they go looking to discover the real meaning
behind it all.
And I ve travelled round the world from year to year And each one found me aimless, one more
year the more for wear
(stanza 5, line 1 2)
It represents the Aussie pride and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Like many others soldiers the song writer Lachlan Irvine suffered PTSD being a major reason for
writing these poems so people understand what he went through. The meaning of this poem is set
upon how bad Vietnam war was like and more focusing on the lesser known parts that happened.
The rhetorical questions throughout this poem created great emotional affect upon the audience
making them think hard about all these different events. The language used with these questioned
is very strong to create lasting effects being extremely upfront one used to

The Importance Of Being A Photographer By Photographer
Anyone can be a photographer, as long as you zoom in on what you love. There was a girl who
found a liking to photography because she enjoyed capturing the essence of nature and art. She
loved being able to capture the uniqueness of objects living or not because there are so many
things people should get to see as well as think about how the picture can make that person feel.
Seeing a picture of a rainforest with beautiful trees and glittering water could make someone feel
relaxed, they can also develop an imagination in pictures like this. And that is why she wishes to be
a Photographer. The important thing about being a photographer is that there are certain techniques
and equipment in this career. When someone takes a picture, someone is able to put it on a
computer and edit it. An individual is able to put in color corrections, and other specialized effects.
When editing someone can use a computer, high quality printer, or editing software. When taking
pictures of animals, the individual must wear a type of clothing with a certain fabric so they do not
scare away the animal. Being a photographer takes more effort than someone might think. They
need to have the correct training, and adequate education. Employers look for photographers who
are also imaginative and creative. Those in entry level jobs learn how to set up the lights, cameras,
and other equipment. They may receive many different assignments involving camera adjustments
or decisions on what kind of subject

The Pros And Cons Of Regulating Drugs
Imagine you were in a severe car accident a few days ago. Your car flipped three times and even
though you got out without a scratch, you are now experiencing severe back pain. You make an
appointment to go see your primary care doctor and he or she prescribes you five milligrams of
Oxycontin. You go to the nearest pharmacy to get your prescription filled and once you take it, the
medicine instantly makes your back stop hurting. A few weeks later, you go back to see your doctor
and your painhas not stopped so he prescribes more of the drug for you. You find yourself back at
the doctor s office a third time, needing more of the drug you were prescribed, but this time, your
back does not hurt anymore. You are now addicted to this painkiller;... Show more content on

It should not be legal for pharmaceutical companies to target specific physicians, mainly those
who lack knowledge of the drug that company is trying to sell, and attempt to sell them a drug
without giving the full list of benefits and disadvantages of the drug no matter how large or
small. The FDA should also be able to make RiskMAPs mandatory for all drugs and should be
able to request it at any time. They should be able to step in and take a drug off the market at any
given time if they see fit. Finally, pharmacists should be attentive to all their surroundings while
on the job. One of the most important qualities a pharmacist can have and that employers should
look for is the ability to multitask. If a pharmacist is unable to detect a forged prescription or signs
of an addict it can be detrimental, not only to the person attempting to purchase the drug, but to
society as a whole. Opiate drugs were created to help people in legitimate pain, but due to the three
factors previously stated, they have been used non medicinally and caused the drug addiction and
overdose rates to increase. Although the benefits of these drugs are significant and unprecedented,
the hazards are far greater and can be easily brought down by the pharmaceutical

Social Location In Sociology
After reading all fourth articles, I believe I have a stronger understanding of sociology. However,
it is complex and I still have a lot to learn to fully grasp the significance of sociology. One thing I
ve never thought to analyze is social location which is seen in all four articles. Social location is an
important concept in sociologybecause it gives you a better understanding of what category people
belong to in society. What makes up a social location is obviously the location, race, religion,
gender, and culture.
We need to look beyond people s individual motivations or their psychological foundations and gain
a better understanding of how people s social location with regard to gender or race influences their
thinking and behavior

Dante s Inferno, By Dante The Pilgrim
Dante, Inferno Throughout the epic poem Inferno, Dante the Pilgrim travels in the different
circles of Hell told by Dante the Poet. The story examines what a righteous life is by showing us
examples of sinful lives. Dante is accompanied by his guide Virgil, who takes him on a journey to
examine sin and the effects it has in has in the afterlife to different sinners. Through the stories of
Francesca and Paolo, Brunetto Latini, Ulysses and Guido da Montefeltro, we are able to
understand that people are self interested in the way they act and present themselves to others and
that those in Hell are there because they have sinned and failed to repent their sins and moral
failings. The story of Brunetto Latini teacher us to use the gifts we... Show more content on

Francesca was married to Paolo s brother and one day while Francesca and Paolo were reading the
story of Lancelot and Guinevere, and when they got to the romantic part of the story they
confessed to each other and kissed. Francesca s husband found out shortly after and had both of
them killed. Francesca s sin was not only adultery, but also failure to accept her own responsibility
for her actions. In the story of Lancelot is about the fall of Camelot and the consequence of
adultery, which shows that Francesca and Paolo knew what they were getting themselves into and
that there would be consequences. Francesca blamed Paolo for everything, as if she didn t have
control over anything that happened. This is shown when Francesca is explaining to Dante why
she is in hell. Love, that excuses no one loved from loving, seized me so strongly with delight in
him, (Dante, Inferno, V, line 103 104). From this we can clearly see how she is completing
blaming her actions solely on love rather than standing up and taking responsibility for the actions
she has committed. She said that love held her down so strongly that it drew her to Paolo and that
she had no way of escaping. After hearing this, Dante becomes faint, for Francesca has seduced
him, she disguised her sin with a love story, making it sound like she had no fault at all. From the

Natural Gas Pollution And Environmental Factors In The...
As it can be seen from the above figure, the use of Fuel Cells results in the reduction of CO, SOx,
NMHC, NOx and PM emissions by one to two orders of magnitude. There are almost zero PM
emissions for natural gas fueled FC cars. Also, there is upto 60% reduction in CO2 emissions,
which reduces the overall global warming co efficient significantly. One more interesting
conclusion is that most of the emissions in FC cars occur in natural gas extraction or methanol
production stage and not during the end usage of the vehicles. Therefore, fuel cell cars can
potentially provide higher environmental benefits if the fuel supply infrastructure is improved.

As compared to the diesel buses complying with
EURO 5 emissions standards, the environmental benefits of the Fuel Cell buses will be
EURO2001 0.06/ per km. The fuel cell buses also show a fair amount of reduction in noise pollution
as compared to the Diesel buses. Although the current environmental benefits of Fuel
Cell buses are less compared to the annualized purchase cost of the prototype FC bus, mass
production of the fuel cell buses can make those benefits significant.
3.3FUEL CELLS IN COMBINED HEAT AND POWER APPLICATIONS
More than 15% of the total energy use in the United States is from the residential sector, whose
annual cost exceeds $5 Billion [7]. The supply of power for majority residences is from remote
power generation plants, whose efficiency in less than 15 %, Also, the waste heat generated by
these plants cannot be used efficiently, which results in the wastage of resources and unwanted
emissions of Greenhouse gases.
Combined Heat and power generation systems are good alternatives for this, which can use the
waste heat generated during power generation for heating applications. This can result in better
efficiency and fewer emissions from the system. However, the use of conventional power
generation technologies in these applications is not feasible due to a number of drawbacks like
excessive pollutant emissions, noise, high cost, frequent maintenance requirements etc. Fuel

Tenochtitlan City Of The Aztecs Analysis
In 1519, the Spanish attempted to expand their sphere of control in the New World. The letter
The Wonders of Tenochtitlan: City of the Aztecs by Hernan CortГ©s to Charles V is considered
a primary source because Cortes is describing what he had personally seen in the city and
temples of Tenochtitlan. As I read Cortes letter I did not find any evidence of it having any
secondary sources. I think he did a great job communicating what he had seen in such great detail
to the reader. He provided such vivid descriptions of Temixtitlan from the inside out and convinces
me that his letter is a primary source. While Cortes was there he got to learn the layout of the land
and locate natural resources of place he wanted to conquer. I can infer that Cortes

Chesapeake Colonies Vs New England Colonies Essay
The thirteen colonies were all largely settled by an English population, sharing much of their
English identity amongst each other. As time progressed into the 18th century, though, the New
England and Chesapeake colonies have branched into two distinct societies. Due to several factors
(geography, climate), the two regions changed much in social, political, and economic aspects.
Social life in the Chesapeake and New Englandcolonies differed greatly. In the New England
colonies, much of the immigrants were families fleeing the Church of England. Towns in the region
were also much more organized and contained schools something the Chesapeake colonies did not
focus on. The Chesapeake immigrants tended to be young single men seeking fortune. Women in
the Chesapeake were given much more freedom in comparison to those in New England, for
southern women were given the right to own land since many of... Show more content on

New England s economy ran on shipbuilding and fishing since there were plenty of trees and
surrounding bodies of water perfect for fish. New England s specialization in several industries led
to its further advancement than that of the south s. The Chesapeake flourished off of tobacco
plantations specifically the Chesapeake s geography was perfect for the tobacco plant to grow,
though it s value did drop eventually do to overproduction of the plant. The Chesapeake s serious
involvement in the agriculture/plantation business lead to its slower advancement towards big
cities than that of New England s/the north.
Thus it should now be evident how and why New England and the Chesapeake colonies branched
off into different societies, despite their common English roots. These differences are still seen
today in everyday actions from stereotypes to factual events occurring. These new societies were
created by the adaptiveness and the exploitation of what the region had to

The introduction ends with the author arguing that The author uses the rhetorical tool Pathos to help drive the argument. This is seen when describing the unpredictability of avalanches. The speaker notes, Due to this unpredictability ( of avalanches occurring), trained professional ski patrollers are killed and/or seriously injured every year trying to minimize avalanche danger and make the slopes safer for the public (7). Using a pathetic approach, the speaker invokes the audience s emotion to approve or agree to the argument presented, using the tragedies of ski patrollers in doing so. Another effective technique the author uses is referencing examples of inherent dangers in regard to avalanches. The author references three cases in which avalanches occurred on ski areas to show how avalanches themselves are unpreventable from occurring. This helps benefit the argument since it emphasizes the reality of ski patrollers being helpless when avalanches occur and therefore something that is unavoidable. • 9. Biblical Theme Of The Old Testament V. New Testament Thematic Biblical Theme An Analysis of Son of Man perceptions in the Old Testament v. New Testament Alejandro Londono (Professor) (University) 6 Nov 2014 The term Son of Man is translated differently by the prophets, apostles, and people of the Old Testament when compared to how the term is viewed in the New Testament. In analyzing how the terms are perceived during these times, it becomes possible to trace the theme of the Son of Man, and how it was viewed in the Old Testament, to how the Son of Man has been viewed in the New Testament. In observing these differences, one can clearly see the term had similar meanings, but was represented in a different fashion, depending on the peoples and circumstances of the time period. In analyzing these occasions in which the term Son of Man is used throughout the two testaments, it will become clear as to their intended, and actual interpretations. In the Old Testament, it is Ezekiel who is the protagonist, in a sense. This becomes apparent, because Ezekiel plays such a vital role to the message behind the books of the Old Testament. Ezekiel was a man as God had intended, and can also be viewed as the coming savior in the Old Testament (Morris Henry, Ph.D., 1 3). The importance of Ezekiel is soon observed, and as noticed in chapter 2, verse 1 of the book Ezekiel of the Old Testament, God commands Ezekiel to stand, so that he may be commissioned as a prophet for the peoples of Israel (UcoG, ... • 25. ##jection Of Men In The Metamorphosis, The Overcoat, And... Certain pieces of literature studied indicate a consistent theme of the subjection of men. Writers of literary works such as The Metamorphosis, The Overcoat, and American Beauty definitively succeed in portraying a somewhat pathetic protagonist male and how that male is ostracized by the people in his surrounding environment. In all three pieces, the subjugated men react in various ways. These men either rise up and liberate themselves by taking an effective standpoint on their desiderates or let others prevail in subduing their desires and frame them as the inept and fallacious component of society. However, all three characters, Gregor Samsa, Akaky Akakievich Bashmachkin, and Lester Burnham fate lead to a considerably likewise peculiar outcome. In The Metamorphosis, Franz Kafka consigns a compelling character analysis of Gregor Samsa, a traveling salesman with an abysmal hatred for his job. Kafta initiates the short story with a metaphorical setting in which the protagonist, Gregor, is mysteriously turned into a monstrous vermin . The metamorphosis of Gregor into cockroach represents the loss of control Gregor feels in his life and his judgment on himself by his defeated humanity because of the commitments he must abide by in order to support his family. Though Gregor is horrified by his unexpected transformation, he comes to accept his condition and modify his attitude to fit the situation. However, is it possible for this growth in the organic industry to be sustainable and profitable? Some notable studies include, yield, price premium, demand, cost, etc. In this paper, organic to conventional agriculture will be investigated. Given that organic agricultureis still in its infancy, demand for organics will continue to grow despite for lower yield and higher premium cost. Additionally, since demand for organic agriculture will continue to grow, cost will be marginal compare to benefits. The following literature reviews will attempt to demonstrate and support this hypothesis. In a research article by Perez and Plattner, the industry for organic fruits and vegetables is expanding. The United States organic food sector grew by an estimated $2.5 billion in 2011, which half of the growth came from the fruit and vegetable category. Furthermore, organic fruit and berry sales grew at a faster pace compare to all organic crops and livestock commodities. However, despite this impressive growth, sales for organic fruits and berries range between 3 to 4% of total United States fruits and berries, implying room for future growth. (Perez et Pl, 2013) Greene wrote several articles that validates the increase demand for organics. Since 2002, when the national standards for organic production and processing was established, United States demand for organic produce has grown significantly. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Summary Of Three Girls By Oates It was like a child s game in which you stare at foliage, grass, clouds in the sky, and suddenly you see a face or a figure, and after that recognition you can t not see the hidden shape, its staring you in the face. (Oates, 95) Oates Three Girls tells the story of two girl poets in the Strand Bookstore in Manhattan on a snowy day in March of 1956. They wander through the aisles of poetry, with commentary about various poets and collections of poetries and how they reflected on the girl poets . We were girl poets passionately enamored of T.S. Eliot but scornful of Robert Frost, whom we d been made to memorize in high school Slyly we communicated in code phrases from Eliot in the presence of obtuse others in our dining hall and residence. (Oates, 92) Suddenly she is pulled from her thoughts, as her friend touches her wrist and guides her further into the store to stumble upon Marilyn Monroe. From here, the girl poets follow her discretely, with a commentary of how Monroe s discretion was so much different form how she was normally seen. She was, at that moment, not a garnish blond showgirl , but rather this woman was an individual wholly absorbed in selecting, leafing through, pausing to read books (Oates, 93) They continue to follow her until she reaches the storefront, where they volunteer to pay for her books to keep the secret of her being here. From there they return her books to her outside, with her gifting them the Selected Poems of Marianne Moore before departing. The story closes with the two girl poets sharing their first kiss. The chosen quote, ( It was like a child s game in which you stare at foliage, grass, clouds in the sky, and suddenly you see a face or a figure, and after that recognition you can t not see the hidden shape, its staring you in the face. The poem Ode to Enchanted Light by Pablo Neruda and the poem Sleeping the Forest both contain a mood, a tone, figurative language, a certain structure, and a theme. Pablo Neruda praises light at the beginning of the poem twice with figurative language. He states Light like a green latticework of branches and Drifting down like clean white sand. By stating this, Neruda is telling us that light is beautiful and pure. So the theme of this ode is that light should be praised, is beautiful, and is important. In the same way, Mary Oliver uses figurative language throughout the poem to convey the theme of her poem. Mary Oliver states I thought the earth remembered me, she took me back so tenderly. Oliver is trying to convey the idea of mother nature taking her kindly and gently. Another piece of figurative language in Sleeping in the Forest that reveals the poem s theme is By morning I had vanished at least at least a dozen times into something better. This hyperbold reveals to us that Oliver s mind went to a better place while she was in nature, meaning that nature is relieving a stress free. Therefore, the theme of Sleeping in the Forest is that nature is a better place to be in and nature is peaceful. • 30. The Transformation Of American Law Essay Horwitz, in The Transformation of American Law: 1780 1860, argues that a commercial elite class worked with judges during the antebellum period to shift American law doctrine from anti commercial to pro commercial doctrines. These new doctrines benefitted the commercial elites and forced America to adopt capitalism over the original moral economy that was in place prior to the beginning shift in American law in the 1780 s. Horwitz breaks the book up into eight distinct chapters, focusing on the changing conception of law, a new conception of property, creating economic growth through the legal system itself, competition and economic development, the relationship between the bar and commercial interests, the emergence of contracts, the development of commercial law, and the rise of legal formalism. The first chapter details the changing concepts of American law in that instrumentalism became popular. Horwitz shows that judges move away from following precedent around the turn of the century and instead were focusing on their own interpretations of the law. This is shown through judges issuing new trials on account of juries issuing verdicts that they believed did not fit with the evidence provided in the trials (29). Juries during this time were increasingly side lined during the trial process. The second chapter has Horwitz looking back to the agrarian economy and the doctrines surrounding property, detailing how these doctrines shifted to an understanding of ... • 31. A Worldwide Problem Of Global Warming Electric Cars There is a worldwide problem of Global Warming. It is increasing day after day, harming our planet s atmosphere by reducing the strength of the ozone layer. Global warming is putting all basic human needs in jeopardy. There are various reasons behind global warming. One of the major reasons is fuel engine cars and trucks we use in our everyday lives. Fuel engine cars leave a trail of unhealthy monoxide gas as the result of combustion in the engine. Carbon Monoxide is one of many gases which is harmful to the ozone layer. Global warmingis already causing high temperatures, rising sea levels, floods, and droughts. To help reduce the effects of the fuel engine cars on our environment we should start using electric cars. Electric cars run on rechargeable batteries which do not leave a trail of carbon monoxide. Electric cars are fuel efficient vehicles which use less gas to travel the same distance as their less efficient counterparts. When we burn less fuel, we generate fewer emissions. When emissions go down, the pace of global warming slows. Cleaner fuels produce fewer emissions when they are burned. Some fuels such as those made from biofuels can reduce emissions by 80 percent compared to gasoline, and cleaner extraction techniques can ensure that dirty fuel like oil doesn t get dirtier. Electric cars will also help many countries stop fighting over fuel and also give countries independence. Electric cars should be globalized so that it helps create a ... Many theorists related the common noir attributes and aesthetic elements to a post war society characterised by insecurity about gender roles, the economy, changing definitions of race, and nuclear technology. One of the cultural problems the term genre attempts to address is the gender question. According to Sylvia Harvey, author of Women s place: The absent family, the women of film noir are presented as prizes, desirable objects for the leading men of these films. The femme fatale s unique power is her brazen willingness and ability to express herself in sexual terms. By this the femme fatale threatens the status quo, and the hero, because she controls her own sexuality outside of marriage. She uses sex for pleasure and as a weapon or a tool to control men, not merely in the culturally acceptable capacity of procreation within marriage. Her sexual emancipation commands the gaze of the hero, the audience, and the camera in a way that cannot be erased by her final punishment. Attempts to neutralise the power and blatant sexuality of the femme fatale by destroying her at the end are usually unsuccessful, because her power extends beyond death. Noir films immediately convey the intense sexual presence of the femme fatale by introducing her as a fully established object of the hero s obsession. For instance, Emperor Nero is reported to have engaged in a marriage ceremony with one of his male slaves. Emperor Elagabalus married a Carian slave named Hierocles. It should be noted, however, that conubium existed only between a civis Romanus and a civis Romana (that is, between a male Roman citizen and a female Roman citizen), so that a so called marriage between two Roman males (or with a slave) would have no legal standing in Roman law (apart, presumably, from the arbitrary will of the emperor in the two aforementioned cases). Furthermore, matrimonium is an institution involving a mother, mater. The idea implicit in the word is that a man takes a woman in marriage, in matrimonium ducere, so that he may have children by her. Still, the lack of legal validity notwithstanding, there is a consensus among modern historians that same sex relationships existed in ancient Rome, but the exact frequency and nature of same sex unions during that period is obscure. In 342 AD Christian emperors Constantius II and Constans issued a law in the Theodosian Code (C. Th. 9.7.3) prohibiting same sex marriage in Rome and ordering execution for those so married. • 38. Socialization And Immigrants During The Gilded Age The Gilded Age was a time period in the history of the United States in which a large number of serious social problems rose about. In the North and the West especially, this was also a time of rapid growth. During this time, a lot of immigrants came to the United States as well. To them, America was seen as the land of opportunity. In their home countries, the working conditions were terrible and they had very low wages, so they came to America in hopes of a better life. Little did they know, the United Stateswas not much better for them. Although, with a large amount of workers now in the United States, some skilled and others unskilled, it allowed industry to expand and consolidate. During the Gilded Age, industry expanded and became stronger over time, resulting in workers coming together and organizing themselves into unions and forcing the federal government to step away from practicing laissez faire capitalism. This time period really began when a new type of business organization came about. People, called entrepreneurs, would start their own business and use large scale production with the end goal of lowering the prices of goods and allowing them to make a huge profit on it. Some people during this time would call these entrepreneurs robber barons because of the the low wages that they paid their workers in combination with their terrible tactics to destroy their competition. Many business owners were also philanthropists. These were the people that donated the money that they made to good causes. One person who is an example of this is Andrew Carnegie, who supported the ideas of the Gospel of Wealth and believed that the more fortunate and wealthy people had the responsibility of giving back to society. Some of these business owners were accused of having a monopoly, which is having complete control over the supply of a product or service. Overall, this industrialization lead to more goods at a faster rate, which greatly contributed to the rise of big businesses. These businesses lead to a greater profit, which lead to bigger business, which eventually lead to corporations. Industry also expanded and came together in terms of economic practices. • 41. Analysis Of Rita Hayworth And The Shawshank Redemption In Rita Hayworth and The Shawshank Redemption the prison acts as a microcosm reflecting the structures of the capitalist society to what extent do you agree with this view? One critic named Terry Eagleton, stated It is capitalism, not Marxism that trades in futures. This quote alone suggests the extent of what capitalism is to some Marxist critiques and this one is suggesting that the future is traded upon capitalism which relates to King s Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption as the prison system does determine the future of inmates yet inside the prison there is a capitalist structure. I will look at a plethora of characters in the novella and explore how their roles in the prison are used to reflect capitalist society: Andy a bourgeoisie socially but a proletariat politically, Red who goes under the system whom also, serves the proletariat even though he is one himself and the warden that uses his role as the bourgeoisie for corruption and power over the inmates. Despite the inmates being in a confined space and managed by the outside world. It could be argued that the Shawshank prison is formulating a society of their own. Kings use of the character, Andy, is vague. As it could be argued that his role changes throughout the novella. It could be said that there are many interpretations to where Andy s character develops as he can be measured by his political and social class as we see done by the prisoners and the wider society. Reiman wrote a book titled the rich get richer and the poor get prison this pragmatically shows that those who are poor go to prison. However, this is not the case with Andy due to the fact before he was in prison he was a successful banker so in fact he was not poor, opposing the view, that Reiman is signifying. Somewhat suggesting that King is stating that society could have an impact on any group of people regardless of what the backgrounds are or the backgrounds of the individual. Andy was a banker before he came to the Shawshank prison. In some lens he would be perceived as a bourgeoisie because of the class that would have been in. • 43. Ludwig Wittgenstein s Word Games Introduction: It is a common tendency for philosophers to invent their own vernacular, usually giving new connotations and definitions to terms we find ordinary. An instance of this is Heidegger s Dasein . He takes two very common German words: Da , meaning there and sein , meaning to be , but Dasein has the heavy connotation of not only physically existing there, but being present in a multitude of ways (Heidegger, 1927). Another example is from Foucault expanding the word government not simply in the common notion of managing a country, but further to the ability to govern one s self or one s family through discipline or common ground (Foucault, 1979) Denoting particular connotations onto existing words enables philosophers to give voice to meanings that would be trying or even impossible to say, but the redefining of words can also bring confusion to the reader. As Lois Shawver points out in his article Postmodernizing the Unconscious, if one, as the reader, gives into the assumption that the language is used in the usual way, then the philosopher s words will appear to be outlandish and enigmatic (Shawver, 1998). This begs the question: how does the reader then know if the writer is using an ordinary term or their newly defined meaning of that same term? In order to make this distinction and to understand of the redefined and coined terms, one must read with an intentional awareness of the terms. Wittgenstein understands this difficulty and aids his readers ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It should not be legal for pharmaceutical companies to target specific physicians, mainly those who lack knowledge of the drug that company is trying to sell, and attempt to sell them a drug without giving the full list of benefits and disadvantages of the drug no matter how large or small. The FDA should also be able to make RiskMAPs mandatory for all drugs and should be able to request it at any time. One of the most important qualities a pharmacist can have and that employers should look for is the ability to multitask. If a pharmacist is unable to detect a forged prescription or signs of an addict it can be detrimental, not only to the person attempting to purchase the drug, but to society as a whole. Opiate drugs were created to help people in legitimate pain, but due to the three factors previously stated, they have been used non medicinally and caused the drug addiction and overdose rates to increase. However, it is complex and I still have a lot to learn to fully grasp the significance of sociology. One thing I ve never thought to analyze is social location which is seen in all four articles. Social location is an important concept in sociologybecause it gives you a better understanding of what category people belong to in society. What makes up a social location is obviously the location, race, religion, gender, and culture. We need to look beyond people s individual motivations or their psychological foundations and gain a better understanding of how people s social location with regard to gender or race influences their thinking and behavior ... The story examines what a righteous life is by showing us examples of sinful lives. Dante is accompanied by his guide Virgil, who takes him on a journey to examine sin and the effects it has in has in the afterlife to different sinners. Through the stories of Francesca and Paolo, Brunetto Latini, Ulysses and Guido da Montefeltro, we are able to understand that people are self interested in the way they act and present themselves to others and that those in Hell are there because they have sinned and failed to repent their sins and moral failings. Francesca was married to Paolo s brother and one day while Francesca and Paolo were reading the story of Lancelot and Guinevere, and when they got to the romantic part of the story they confessed to each other and kissed. Francesca s husband found out shortly after and had both of them killed. Francesca s sin was not only adultery, but also failure to accept her own responsibility for her actions. In the story of Lancelot is about the fall of Camelot and the consequence of adultery, which shows that Francesca and Paolo knew what they were getting themselves into and that there would be consequences. Francesca blamed Paolo for everything, as if she didn t have control over anything that happened. This is shown when Francesca is explaining to Dante why she is in hell. Love, that excuses no one loved from loving, seized me so strongly with delight in him, (Dante, Inferno, V, line 103 104). From this we can clearly see how she is completing blaming her actions solely on love rather than standing up and taking responsibility for the actions she has committed. She said that love held her down so strongly that it drew her to Paolo and that she had no way of escaping. After hearing this, Dante becomes faint, for Francesca has seduced him, she disguised her sin with a love story, making it sound like she had no fault at all. From the story ... • 52. Natural Gas Pollution And Environmental Factors In The... As it can be seen from the above figure, the use of Fuel Cells results in the reduction of CO, SOx, NMHC, NOx and PM emissions by one to two orders of magnitude. There are almost zero PM emissions for natural gas fueled FC cars. Also, there is upto 60% reduction in CO2 emissions, which reduces the overall global warming co efficient significantly. One more interesting conclusion is that most of the emissions in FC cars occur in natural gas extraction or methanol production stage and not during the end usage of the vehicles. Therefore, fuel cell cars can potentially provide higher environmental benefits if the fuel supply infrastructure is improved. 3.2FUEL CELL TECHNOLOGY FOR BUSES It is believed the buses can be a good early ... The supply of power for majority residences is from remote power generation plants, whose efficiency in less than 15 %, Also, the waste heat generated by these plants cannot be used efficiently, which results in the wastage of resources and unwanted emissions of Greenhouse gases. Combined Heat and power generation systems are good alternatives for this, which can use the waste heat generated during power generation for heating applications. This can result in better efficiency and fewer emissions from the system. However, the use of conventional power generation technologies in these applications is not feasible due to a number of drawbacks like excessive pollutant emissions, noise, high cost, frequent maintenance requirements etc. Fuel Cell ... As time progressed into the 18th century, though, the New England and Chesapeake colonies have branched into two distinct societies. Due to several factors (geography, climate), the two regions changed much in social, political, and economic aspects. Social life in the Chesapeake and New Englandcolonies differed greatly. In the New England colonies, much of the immigrants were families fleeing the Church of England. Towns in the region were also much more organized and contained schools something the Chesapeake colonies did not focus on. The Chesapeake immigrants tended to be young single men seeking fortune. Women in the Chesapeake were given much more freedom in comparison to those in New England, for southern women were given the right to own land since many of... The Chesapeake s serious involvement in the agriculture/plantation business lead to its slower advancement towards big cities than that of New England s/the north. Thus it should now be evident how and why New England and the Chesapeake colonies branched off into different societies, despite their common English roots.
