Using RFID Technology in the Transportation Sector
RFID or radio frequency identification is the name given to the technology that uses radio waves to
transmit data and uniquely identify an animal, person, or thing ( radio frequency identification,
2013). An RFID system includes a transponder including an antenna and a chip that can easily store
a significant amount of data such as location details, manufacturer details and product numbers if
any. There are three basic types of the RFIDreaders. Fixed readers with an external antenna which
are often used at the entry points of the yards. Handheld readers are used by personnel moving
through the yards or the space. Then there are mobile readers which are set on the moving
vehicles and moving equipment for increasing accuracy and tracking the process ( Advantages of
RFID in Transportation and Logistics , 2011). In the current times, radio frequency identification
technology has upgraded from anonymity into applications that are rather used normally and as a
consequence has helped in the acceleration of manufactured materials handling (Want, 2006).
There are several uses of RFID in various sectors. However, this paper will only deal with its uses
in the transportation sector and how effectively this modern technology has helped in the growth of
business and ease for people all over the world. RFID technology has a number of applications in the
domain of transportation including electronic toll collection (ETC), electronic vehicle registration
(EVR), automatic

The Princess And The Pea Criticism
People think of lions and tigers as royalty, so it is not surprising that they are used in this version
of The Princess and the Pea. Originally written by Hans Christian Andersen, this fairy tale has a
prince who wishes to marry a princess, but the queen insists it must be a proper princess. The
illustration in this adaptation, drawn by Janet Stevens, shows the beginning of the conflict, with the
queen insisting on a true princess for the princes wife. The illustration conveys clear distinctions of
the feelings of the king from the queen and the prince. There are negative feelings on the left side
of the picture, which are captured by the king, who is looking away from the rest of his family. His
legs are crossed, which means he... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The queen and prince are literally on a red carpet, which represents celebrity status. The queen is
wearing lots of rings and other jewels, displaying her status. The son looks like the father, as
they are both lions, yet is more in tune with the tiger mother. He is drawn behind the queen,
which exhibits a lesser status, yet a closer relationship with his mother than what he has with his
father. There is much more yellow on the right side, about thirty percent of the picture, and the
son is wearing the most. The background is farther away, focusing on the two. The son is
observing his mother, revealing that he looks to her for guidance, not the king. The phrase tiger
mom comes to mind, since she is making the decisions for the son and he knows this. One s eye
goes straight to the queen, who is in the middle, which confirms that she is the main focus of this
illustration. There are fewer rigid lines on the right, which shows less oppression. If the three
royal figures are part of a triangle, they are the closer ends, with the king much farther away.
Their body language is much more open than the king s, as well. The cap that the son is wearing
is eye grabbing, as it is orange. The orange of the cap signifies his youth, as well as suggesting he
is flamboyant. Just as English is read left to right, so are pictures. The picture in this adaptation of
The Princess and the Pea illustrates this. There are negative feelings on the left, which is shown by
the lion king. The tiger queen and lion son have more hope. Considering how the mother wants all
the control, it makes sense to have the emotions to go this way. All in all, the beginning of the
conflict of this story is perfectly captured by this

Optimism
Optimism
Optimism is a mental attitude or world view that interprets situations and events as being best
(optimized), meaning that in some way for factors that may not be fully comprehended, the present
moment is in an optimum state. The concept is typically extended to include the attitude of hope
for future conditions unfolding as optimal as well. The more broad concept of optimism is the
understanding that all of nature, past, present and future, operates by laws of optimization along the
lines of Hamilton s principle of optimization in the realm of physics. This understanding, although
criticized by counter views such as pessimism, idealism and realism, leads to a state of mind that ...

He hoped that society would eventually reach the state where calm reason would replace all
violence and force, that mind could eventually make matter subservient to it, and that intelligence
could discover the secret of immortality. Much of this philosophy is exemplified in the
Houyhnhnms of Jonathan Swift s Gulliver s Travels.
Panglossianism
The term panglossianism describes baseless optimism of the sort exemplified by the beliefs of
Pangloss from Voltaire s Candide, which are the opposite of his fellow traveller Martin s
pessimism and emphasis on free will. The phrase panglossian pessimism has been used to describe
the pessimistic position that, since this is the best of all possible worlds, it is impossible for
anything to get any better.
The panglossian paradigm is a term coined by Stephen Jay Gould and Richard Lewontin to refer to
the notion that everything has specifically adapted to suit specific purposes. Instead, they argue,
accidents and exaptation (the use of old features for new purposes) play an important role in the
process of evolution. Some other scientists however argue the implication that many (or most)
adaptionists are panglossians is a straw man.

The Mormon Church
I was raised in what now would be called White privilege. The Edgemont area in Provo, Utah was an
extremely homogenous culture. My family, along with most of the other families in my
neighborhood were young, White, middle class, highly educated, conservative, heterosexual, and
Mormon with European ancestry. My father, along with most of the other fathers in the
neighborhood, was a professor at Brigham Young University. Our culture was based on the
teachings of the MormonChurch with a rich pioneer heritage which we celebrated every 24th of
July. As children, we would don pioneer garb, decorate wagons and bikes to look like covered
wagons or handcarts and march around the church building pretending to be pioneers. Not only
was this event fun, but we could feel the pioneer blood flowing through our veins. The pioneers
represented to us hard work, sacrifice, devotion, obedience, courage, fortitude and love of God.
The Mormon Church was organized in 1830, as a collectivist society where the good of the church
was more important than the individual. In those days, when the church gave a member an
assignment, including leaving the family to go on a mission, moving to a new location, or
allowing a husband to marry another wife, and performed these tasks no matter the personal
sacrifice required. The collectivist practice of the United Order was instituted in the late 1800 s in a
small town in Southern Utah called Orderville. My Great grandparents were part of this system

Motel Chronicles Sam Shepard Analysis
Motel Chronicles Sam Shepard left his wife and child because he fell desperately in love with
Jessica Lange. Later on in the story we start to see the pain it caused Olan and Jessica in Shepard
and Dark, when Dark talks about how things were at the house when Shepard left. Without a
doubt, it is definitely upsetting and painful that your husband or father leaves you suddenly.
Shepard also experienced a great deal of pain himself, during the process of wondering if he
should leave or not. This tore Shepard up inside. It was like an internal play between two choices
of action seen in Shepard. Knowing the internal struggle he was going through, he sees how this
really affected him. Shepard was being torn in two different directions... Show more content on

At this point we know that Johnny took the footage in the book. Since we know that Johnny was
there, we now know where the photo came from, from Motel Chronicles. We also start to see the
importance of photographs themselves. Shepard said that photos could be more powerful than
language itself, because it hits you with an immediate image and emotional response; Shepard
also compares it to music. He understood the emotional impact that a single image could have
and how often times could be more powerful than what language could do. Shepard didn t have a
good relationship with his father. He hated his father, and hated when people would compare him
with his father. His father was abusive and alcoholic and not the best father. Part of the reason
why Shepard wrote about his families and father was to work out the damages that, which caused
him in his past. It seemed like Shepard turned his pain into art, and/or he also looked at his writing
as a way of therapy for

Why A Penny Is The United States Government Should...
Say Goodbye to the Penny There is a good chance that when an item is purchased, change will be
given back. It is also very likely that the change included multiple pennies. These pennies will then
proceed to be left in a pocket and forgotten, never to be used again because their purchasing power
is non existent. The United States government should discontinue the manufacturing of pennies.
Pennies do not serve the primary role of currency anymore. Also, pennies are uneconomical to
produce and waste taxpayers moneyby lining the pockets of corporations. Lastly, many other
countries have discontinued the production of their centpieces with no negative impact. To
understand why a penny does not fulfill its role as currency anymore,... Show more content on

In the beginning of the use of fiat currency, many governments backed the value of the currency
with gold. For a while, thirty five United States Dollars could be traded for 1 Troy ounce of gold
at a bank. Today however, the USD is no longer backed by gold. Most money today is just
worthless paper , and if the government endorsing that money fails, it turns that currency into
useless paper. (This is causes hyperinflation and recently happened to the Zimbabwean dollar.)
All of this ties back into the original problem with pennies. Fiat currency cannot itself be worth
more than the value it is given. It would make absolutely no sense to take a dollar worth of gold
and make it into a 50 cent coin. If this was done, people would just use the coin as gold, not the
50 cent piece it was supposed to be. When the material fiat money is made out of is worth more
than the government proclaimed value, the purpose of that currency has failed and it has turned
back into commodity currency. A penny currently costs 1.8 cents to make. That 1.8 cent chuck
of metal is then assigned a value of 1 cent. It is unthinkable to lose .8 cents for every penny
manufactured. This is just like the aforementioned example where a dollar worth of gold was
made into a 50 cent coin. When quarters and dimes used to be made out of silver, and the price of
silver started to rise, the silver content in coins was reduced so

The Negative Effects Of Drug Prohibition
Numerous researchers contend that drug prohibition policies actually create more issues than are
solved. The negative effects of drug restriction policies include: negative health effects, increased
drug effects, crimes at home and abroad, increased violence, misuse of assets and resources,
violation of civil rights and excess on criminal and government systems. Heavy emphasis on
upholding criminal restrictions on drugcreation and selling was also significantly influencing the
productivity of illegal drug markets and increasing the development and operations of groups that
carry out crimes, corrupt powers, and undermine the rules and laws in numerous countries.
Bertram et al. states that drug related crimes is not necessarily the result of drug use but rather of
the conditions under which people are constrained, by drug prohibition policies, to purchase and
sell drugs. The sorts of unlawful acts and crimes related to drugs are, to a great extent, made by
drug policies. Laws that make drug ownership illegal, create the largest amount of drug criminals.
Different crimes, for example, violent acts and burglary, are created by underground markets (black
markets) in which drugs are traded. Our government is ensuring the monopoly of the black market
by restricting the utilization of non prescribed drugs. There is a great interest for which there must
be a great supply and the present laws prohibiting drug exchange and usage encourage the
development of these underground markets.

Youth Incarceration Research Paper
The Incarceration of Juveniles It is estimated that on any given day there are 80,000 youth
incarcerated in the United States, which is more than any other developed country in the
world(Townes, 1). Incarcerating youth before exploring other options is a social injustice. Judges
rather give short term solutions than permanently fix the problem. To understand why this is a
social injustice, four pieces of information must be known: the causes, who it affects and how,
who s responsible, and solutions in place. Incarcerating youth affects them in many different ways.
One way is the psychiatric damage prisons cause. Being in prison means that the child is not able
to be with their family and community, which can lead to feelings of loneliness and depression.
Studies show that incarcerated youth die from suicide at a rate two to three times more than non
incarcerated youths (Polish,1). In addition to mental health effects, incarceration at a young age
affects the person s future by lowering their chances of finding a job. When sentenced to a
correctional facility, the child s education is stopped and they become 38 times more likely to
become a repeat offender(Koehler,1). With no education and a... Show more content on

Lack of resources is one of the major causes of high juvenile incarceration rates. Without alternative
programs prison is the only option. Another major fact is improper evaluations. Improper
evaluations lead to children, who are considered non public threats, being thrown in jail. Roughly
25% of youth behinds bar are actually considered threats which means the remaining are considered
non threatening (Townes, 2). In addition, improper evaluations lead to youth with mental illnesses
being placed behind bars and not receiving medical attention. It s known that 65 to 70% of youth
behind bars have a disability, yet barley anything has been done to help them obtain the help they

Human Papillomavirus ( Hpv ) Vaccine
Exploratory Essay: Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine Prior to June of 2006, Human
Pappilomarius (HPV) was almost unheard of to the general public. But after FDA approval of
Gardasil manufactured by Merck Co., HPV vaccine became the headline of many articles and
breaking news of many TV channels. Why? Let s us explore it. According to World Health
Organization (WHO), HPV worldwide is the most common sexual transmitted Disease (STD).
There are more than 100 strains of HPV and in those 13 strains are known for causing cancer in
human. HPV infection goes undetected majority of the time. HPV infected victims mostly have no
signs or symptoms or are there any tests available to detect it. The body immunity usually gets rid
of the viruses on its own. However, with persistent infection, it may lead to genital warts and
worrisome oro genital cancers. With normal immunity, it takes about 15 20 years for cervical cancer
to develop. Worldwide, cervical cancer is the second most frequent cancer. It is estimated more than
270,000 deaths from cervical cancer annually (1 6). In 2007, to prevent the devastation result of
HPV associated cancer, the National Advisory Committee on Immunization practices (ACIP)

Why Sherman Burned Georgia To The Ground
The North takes a lead with Sherman behind it all. On February 17, 1865 Sherman captures
South Carolina leading him up to burn Georgia to the ground. From Atlanta to Savannah,
Sherman covers 450 miles in 50 days leaving a 40 by 50 mile wide path of destruction. Some

be effective and psychological as fighting. Sherman then has his troops circle Atlanta in July,
forcing Hood to abandon Georgia on September 1, 1864. He captures Georgia the next day which
was a major part of Sherman s March Towards Sea because Atlanta had railroads and was the

Although he didn t think he would have a career in PayPal, SpaceX or Tesla, he wanted to at
least be involved in one of them. The way Musk thinks is by the first principles of thinking,
which is essentially a mode of inquiry that constantly pursues the foundations of a problem. The
first principles method was crucial to the beginning of SpaceX. When Musk was trying to figure
out the price of their first rockets he thought historically all rockets have been expensive and
therefore all rockets in the future will be expensive. But that s not entirely true, although he
found them too expensive, he thought if he manufactured them it could be cheaper. Fortunately
it did turned out to be cheaper, instead of buying a rocket for $20 million they built their own for
about $6 million. Now going into the car industry his best bet that would probably take him far
was electric cars and at the time he was studying advanced capacitors, which are essentially long
lasting batteries. Musk thought if he could create this long lasting battery, then he could
revolutionize the car industry. And as most people think when trying something new, Musk
wasn t sure if success was a possible outcome. Nevertheless he wanted to embark on something
that is desirable to figure out if success was at least one of the possibilities. And he was prepared

Over the past two decades, electronic games have become ingrained in our culture. Children s

Chapter II Review of related Literature Summary: Online gaming has faced and still faces many
problems. The main reason for this is that the Internet was not designed for such a medium. The
Internet was designed to provide redundant points of communication, not to provide high speed
arcade action (Bates, Lag and the Game Reviewers 175). A few technological barriers stand in
the way of a vision of ideal multi player gaming over the Internet. The most significant of these
technological problems are the problems of latency and reliability. Internet latency is inevitable
data transfer delays that create lag in games, keeping an online game from running smoothly.
Some also feel that because of this lag, true interactive gaming will never be possible over the
Internet. Bandwidth issues are also a problem. Receiving data is difficult over the Internet,
particularly collecting data from several players in a multi player game. Another problem that
online gamers face is finding people to play with online. Dedicated game server sites have helped
answer this problem. MPath, TEN, and BattleNet are some such game systems whose principal
mission is match making. However, some of these dedicated game servers charge

mythology, and Winston Churchill, the leader of Great Britain during the Second World War, the
similar characteristics displayed reveal their heroic nature and bravery. Courageous, noble qualities,
leadership, bravery, physical and mental strength, intelligence, and risking one s life are just a few
characteristics that describe a hero. Odysseus heroic traits are demonstrated throughout many
different situations in the Odyssey. While on the Island of the Cyclopes, Odysseus and his crew
were nearly killed by the giant one eyed Cyclops, Polyphemus. Intelligent Odysseus says My
name is Nohbdy: mother, father, and friends, everyone calls me Nohbdy (line 275 pg 380). After
blinding Polyphemus, he and his crew escaped by tying themselves under the bellies of the sheep.
Odysseus used his intelligence in a dire situation to deceive Polyphemus to become the victor.
Churchill s intelligence is shown in his speech preceding the Battle of Britain. As Great Britain face

Influence of Television Programs on Children
Kayla Raguse Joseph Grabowski Rhetoric Composition 1 11 October 2010 Influence of
Television Programs on Children Before there was television, children had options of playing
outside, playing board games, or doing simple activities like reading or drawing. Now that TV
exists to a high extremity, it has become apparent that nowadays these children shows have
surpassed physical and intellectual activities and have now become a way of life for children. We
now see children wearing clothing, playing video games, playing with toys, and watching movies
featuring famous characters that started off as mere creations that starred on half hour to one hour
long programs. Whether it is a positive or... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this article, Pasek also determines that children under three years of age in no way benefit
from television; even if it is Baby Einstein, (Kramer n.pag). Studies have also been conducted
trying to determine whether or not watching television to great amounts is affecting the eating
habits and psyche of young children. A study published by US Journal Pediatrics found that
more psychological difficulties dealing with peers, emotional issues, and hyperactivity are
likely to develop with children who spend numerous hours daily in front of television or playing
video games (Yahoo! News n.pag). Researchers studied 1,013 children ages 10 to 11 and had
them complete a 25 point questionnaire, a self report about daily hours watching television or
playing games, and measured their physical activity using an accelerometer in which the kids
wore around their waist for seven days (Yahoo! News n.pag). It was concluded that children
spending two or more hours a day were likely to score higher on the questionnaire which
indicated, They had more psychological difficulties than kids who did not spend a lot of time in

multiple hours watching television or playing video games, they are still at risk for psychological
difficulties. Researchers stress the importance of parents regulating how much these activities are

Analysis Of Bittorrent, A Nightmare For Copyright...
BitTorrent, a nightmare for copyright enforcement agencies Using BitTorrent has become a
popular and effective way of downloading files over the internet. BitTorrent is a peer to peer file
sharing (P2P) internet protocol that allows files to be distributed via an internet connection. The
use of BitTorrent itself is a perfectly legal and legitimate process of downloading certain files. For
example, if someone wanted to obtain a large free to use file like a Linux distribution, BitTorrent
provides a fast and effective means to download the file legally. Another legal use of BitTorrent
would be companies like Blizzard who use custom BitTorrent clients to distribute and update their
games to avoid overloading their servers. The main... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A swarm is a group of computers that all have the desired torrent file available for downloading.
Computers enter the swarm by accessing a torrent file (file extension is generally .torrent) via a
torrent client such as BitTorrent, uTorrent, Vuze, Transmission, or many others. Trackers are
located inside torrent files that keep track of connected computers. The tracker communicates
with the other computers in the swarm and shares their corresponding IP addresses with
everyone in the swarm so the computers can connect to one another. The tracker does not handle
any of the data being transmitted, it merely provides a medium for the computers to keep track
of which computers are in the swarm. In other words, when an individual wants to download a
file, first they download a torrent file and access it via a client that contains a tracker allowing
them to download the file from not one but many people at one time. The actual file being
transferred is not transferred as one large file, but is broken down into many pieces when it is
downloaded. After a computer has downloaded a piece of the file, they are then able to upload that
piece to others in the swarm. Thus, computers in the swarm are downloading and uploading to and
from each other simultaneously. Once the computer has all the pieces of the file, the client then
assembles the pieces so the file is operable. BitTorrent clients can also utilize

A sailor s job is to navigate the deep seas, but navigation is needed with the help of a map. The
sailor takes a close eye of the map to check if the boats path is headed in a straight direction.
Seamus Heaney s father makes sure that all the furrows will be placed correctly in the right track.
So he represents his father as a sailor on his ship, this is his interpretation/metaphor. Seamus
Heaney. However does not interpret his father in Digging. He simply describes the scene he is
seeing through his window inside Under my window, a clean rasping sound . So in the two poems
he has used different styles of portraying the scene, in
Follower he uses subtle hints of metaphors such as mapping the furrow exactly , which describes
him as a sailor which is referring back to

alienation felt and the need to negotiate the distance between his family and the present

However in the poem digging he does use some metaphors The poem had opened on the lines,

How Does Liam O Flaherty Use Figurative Language In The...
This story follows a sniper and his fight to survive a day in the Irish civil war. The setting takes
place in Dublin, Ireland around the battle of the Four Courts, which does take place in history. The
sniper, settled on a rooftop, tries to relax, but soon fights for his life against an armored car and
more importantly against another sniper. In The Sniper by Liam O Flaherty, symbolism and
figurative language exemplify that civil wardivides a whole country, not just any one group of
people or soldiers.
O Flaherty s use of symbolism allows this story to encompass a whole country in its talk of division
while only having four characters. The two analogous snipers contain similarities to each other in
their locations, actions, mannerisms, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A historical allusion lies in this text as a reference to the Irish civil war between the Republicans
and the Free Staters. The Sniper takes place in Dublin, Ireland, but this means nothing unless it
takes place like it does during ...the Irish civil war of the early 1920s (Korb 225). This allusion
to the civil war in Ireland acts as a great reference to history while trying to communicate the idea
of how civil war divides an entire country as a whole. The reason that this allusion communicates
so well lies in the fact that it brings the mind to reality, instead of viewing The Sniper as a made
up story. In this story exists a situational irony that comes across as the biggest point of the story,
in which a sniper kills his brother. Out of the entire story the biggest point ...emphasizes one of
the greatest ironies of civil war: Brother is pitted against brother (Shuman 3). This acts as
situational irony because no one expects that the enemy sniper could turn out as the brother of
the Republican sniper. This irony shows how war does not only affect the soldiers but their
families as well because they have to suffer the death of their children. Finally, the fact that The
Sniper takes place in Dublin at the Four Courts represents with imagery what happens there, how
civil war destroys the people s history and culture. The fighting of the Irish civil war takes place
in the streets of Dublin for a while and ...around the beleaguered Four Courts where the heavy guns
roar[] (O Flaherty 1). The way that this shows how the entire country becomes affected, exists in
how the Four Courts lay under siege with cannons firing around them. The people s culture and
history becomes destroyed by being under siege and thus indirectly does hurt the people of Ireland.
Allusion, situational irony, and imagery all assist the message that civil war affects the

The Trial and Death of Socrates Essay
The portrayal of Socrates, through the book the trial and death of Socrates is one that has created a
fairly controversial character in Western history. In many ways, Socrates changed the idea of
common philosophy in ancient Greece; he transformed their view on philosophy from a study of
why the way things are, into a consideration man. Specifically, he analyzed the virtueand health of
the human soul. Along side commending Socratesfor his strong beliefs, and having the courage to
stand by those convictions, Socrates can be commended for many other desirable characteristics.
Some of those can include being the first martyr to die for his philosophical beliefs and having the

The apology is an account of the speech that Socrates makes during his trial. In Socrates trial, he
is being accused of not recognizing the same gods that the others in Athens recognize
(specifically that those in authority). Instead, Socrates is charged with inventing new gods, and
in doing so is corrupting the youth of Athens to whom, Socrates frequently preaches to about his
theology. Socrates speech, however, is not an apology, as the name may suggest but rather an
explanation of his beliefs. During his trial speech, Socrates makes frequent reference to his
beliefs explaining that his behavior stems from a prophecy by the oracle at Delphi, which
claims that he was the wisest of all men. Although Socrates is honest and direct about these
beliefs, this did not sit well with many of the trial members who were evaluating him. Despite
the fact that Socrates made frequent references to the fact that it is destined for him to be the
wisest of all men, he also recognizes that he does in fact lack in knowledge when it comes to
world affairs. To which, Socrates states only adds to his wisdom as he is aware of the fact that he
does not know everything and that realization alone makes him wiser than most other men. In his
explanation of his behavior, Socrates also adds that part of his duty as a wise man, is to make sure
that he questions the behavior of other wise men to make sure that those men are also aware

Canterbury Tales Working Class Analysis
The Canterbury Tales is an abstract showstopper in which the splendid creator Geoffrey Chaucer
searched out to finish different objectives. Chaucer composed his stories amid the late 1300 s.
This puts him comfortable start of the decrease of the Middle Ages. Truly, we realize that a
working class was simply beginning to come to fruition as of now, because of the developing
business industry. Chaucer had the capacity see the significance and future achievement of the
working class, and composed his work considering them. Realizing that the white collar class was
not intrigued by elevated philosophical writing, Chaucer composed his role as a greatly silly and
engrossing piece that would be additionally intriguing to his crowd. Likewise, Chaucer... Show

point when the Host declined to purchase the relics and afterward went before to affront the

The Evolution Of Music And The Evolution Of Music
The evolution of music, how it started, and how composers create music is phenomenal nowadays,
the equipment used such as technology plays a great important role in how music is created and
produced for clients who want the music. Music composers are the main reason that music most
people hear today are available to be heard; thanks to composers, they provide the entertainment for
consumers and, like other employees that work, have to make money and earn a living for
themselves. Musiccomposition is important in the music field, because without it people wouldn
t be able to teach it or learn from it, or music probably would not exist. History in this field is
significant to the development of music, as well as the job requirements, description of the job,
and how it will affects one s life are also important. Music has been around for years, decades,
and centuries; as far back as 4000 BCE (before common era) and even earlier was when the first
drum based instruments came around (The Method Behind the Music). No notation or writing of
music in any way was done at the time as the sounds made from simple natural sources (sticks and
rocks) were used in religious ceremonies (The Method Behind the Music). As time went on, various
kinds of people experimented and created new instruments such as the Greeks creating the natural
trumpet and Egyptians creating flutes and harps (The Method Behind the Music). For many years
since then music theory has evolved from era to era and

This Essay Is Looking At What The Key Factors Most Commonly
This essay is looking at what the key factors most commonly regarded as being linked to health
inequalities in the United Kingdom. Firstly, what does the term health inequalities mean according
to the World Health Organisation (WHO) Health inequalities can be defined as differences in health
status or in the distribution of health determinants between different population groups. For
example, differences in mobility between elderly people and younger populations or differences in
mortality rates between people from different social classes. It is important to distinguish between
inequality in health and inequity. Some health inequalities are attributable to biological variations

The further up the ladder you climb in a business the better the health benefits can be for example
the higher you go up in the company private health care you get raises in value also getting paid
leave to recover, unlike the workers who are nowhere near the lower middle class section of the
business structure they will be using the NHS this can mean long waiting lists, unpaid leave or
sick pay which is not a lot.
Another factor to inequalities of health could be regional differences and what I mean by this is
where you live in the United Kingdom (BBC, 2011) helps point out if you live in central London
and areas in the south east of England like Brighton, Canterbury(Kent), Oxfordshire, the Isles of
Wight and Surrey they are going to have higher living standards than anyone living in the north of
England for example Middlesbrough, Gateshead or Sunderland and it s the same when it comes to
Wales and Scotland. The reason for the massive divide brings me on to another factor of why there
is such an inequality in health which is employment.
As the (BBC, 2011) states on their website This is linked to employment opportunities. Declines in
traditional industries such as mining have contributed to a

The Assassin s Creed games focus on the concept of genetic memory, that one could view the
past through the eyes of their ancestors. So far, the games have taken us to Jerusalem,
Renaissance Italy, Constantinople, Colonial America, the Caribbean, and Paris during the
French Revolution. The next installment of the game, Assassin s Creed: Syndicate, will take
place in Victorian London. The games center on a constant conflict between two groups known
as the Assassin s and the Knights Templar. Given the brief official synopsis, it remains clear that
this conflict will continue in the film. And I doubt the connections with the games will end
there. While we know little of the film so far, we should expect a lot of parkour, action, and
stealth, as these elements drive the franchise. Video game films have bad luck taking off. To
date, the only successful video game film was Prince of Persia, with only $90,759,676 in
domestic revenue. However, Ubisoft decided to take a more hands on approach to their film this
time, and this also marks the first time a theatrical film is set in the same universe as its
corresponding video game franchise. So there s

Comparing Christian Vs. Baptism
Comparing Lutheran vs Baptism Lutherans and Baptists are both Christians who are also
Protestants. They share many beliefs and have more similarities than differences. Both happen to be
reformists within the fold of Christianity. However, there are many different branches of Baptists
with differences between them too. In Lutheran, baptism is seen as a work of God and so even
infants are baptized. On the other hand, baptism is only for believers among Baptists, and this is
the reason why infants are not baptized in Baptists. Lutherans are the first of the major
denominations that broke away from the Roman Catholic Church in a bid to reform it from some
practices and doctrines that had no or little justification. The Christian community, though centered
in salvation through Jesus Christ, has been divided into sub sects, with some differences in their
teachings, doctrine and ceremonial celebrations. Two of the most commonly misconstrued sects
would be the Lutheran and the Baptism Churches. As mentioned, both religions believe in and
worship the same God, refer to the same Bible and hold communal gatherings to celebrate their
faith. The principal dissimilarity is their doctrines and preaching/teaching methods. There are
differences in their ceremonies, too, particularly in the manner in which Holy Communion is
administered and the over all formality of the worship service. The following comparison would
affirm that Lutherans are more sacramentarian in theology and worship, while

From the case information, we can see the various internal rates of return estimated for the Boeing

The market share for mid to large passenger aircrafts is comprised of five major firms including;
Boeing, Northrop, Grumman, McDonnell/Douglas, and Lockheed. The increased competition in
this space puts downward pressure on the price, forcing Boeing to evaluate the possibility of a
market price below the baseline assumption of $130M. The provided data illustrate the scenario in

Gangs And Gang Crimes All Together
I have chosen to write my paper on Gangs and Gang crimes all together. I want to explain the
history and reasoning of modern gangs and how and why they came about. I also want to give
examples of some of the most common gangs known world wide and examples of the crimes they
commit. I will also include insight on the reasoning behind the joining of gangs. Lastly, I would like
to go into some detail about the criminal investigation of gangcrimes. I have chosen this topic
because I believe it is one that we don t give enough credit to in the current increase in crimerate.
Today s gangs of violent young offenders aggressive if you will terrorize and put pressure on
neighborhoods in over three quarters of America s largest cities. These collectivities may include
only one third of at risk youth, but the members that are held accountable are only about 80% of the
serious delinquencies among minors. Now, even though juvenile violence and crime is connected
to inferior socioeconomic conditions and racial issues, it has been understood that gangs nurture
and structure young offenders towards futures of crime. Their entire existence is on the belief that
the youth will grow up and become part of their legacy as they call it.
Now, to understand street gangs and the crimes they commit in its seriousness, one must understand
what a street gang is. Street gangs are groups or gangs, having a year history, or having a large
membership and being somewhat organized, and being involved

Government Restriction Of Speech In The United States
In general, the government, from local to federal, may not jail or fine citizens or organizations for
what they say or write. There are special circumstances however, where the government has their
own right to censor you. In times of war, the government has not been as open with free speech, as
there are high tensions and mass panic throughout the country. Until 1919, you could be fined for
speaking against the military draft or dismantling the government. The Supreme Court has
interpreted speech and press to include not only speaking and writing, but also television, radio,
using the Internet, and symbolic expression. Restricting speech because of the content is generally
illegal, because a main principle in democracy is that the government should not be allowed to
decide what information the people are allowed to hear or read. The government can censor certain
types of speech such as defamation, true threats, fighting words, profuse obscenities, child
pornography, and commercial advertising. Bigotry, blasphemy, and violence are still protected by
the First Amendment. Another way the government can restrict speech is if the speaker is in a
certain relationship with the government, such as government employees or teachers in public
schools. The government can also restrict content neutral speech if it gets... Show more content on

these rulings, the one percent can have a huge impact on politics. He also argues low value speech

Reporters are one type of journalist. They create reports as a profession for broadcast or
publication in mass media such as newspapers, television, radio, magazines, documentary film, and
the Internet. Reporters find sources for their work, their reports can be either spoken or written,
and they are often expected to report in the most objective and unbiased way to serve the public
good. A columnist is a journalist who writes pieces that appear regularly in newspapers or
magazines.

Media bias
Media bias is a term used to describe a real or perceived bias of journalists and news producers
within the mass media, in the selection of which events will be reported and how they are
covered. The term media bias usually refers to a pervasive or widespread bias contravening the
standards of journalism, rather than the perspective of an individual journalist or article. The
direction and degree of media bias in various countries is widely disputed, although

Case Study Of Copthorne Holdings Ltd. V. Canada
This case (Copthorne Holdings Ltd. v. Canada) is similar to the case being analyzed (Groupe
Honco Inc. v. Her Majesty The Queen) in the fact that they both seem to be entering
amalgamations in order to receive a tax free benefit. In Copthorne Holdings Ltd. v. Canada, the
PUC of the previously known subsidiarybecame included in the PUC of the amalgamated
corporation. In Groupe Honco Inc. v. Her Majesty The Queen, the capital dividend account of Old
Supervac transferred to the amalgamated corporation New Supervac. In order to receive taxfree
benefits, the parent and subsidiary corporations in Copthorne Holdings became sister corporations
prior to amalgamation in order to have a larger PUC. When shares were redeemed and a payout
occurred to the non resident shareholder, it was much larger than it would have been had the
subsidiary PUC been cancelled upon amalgamation. In the Groupe Honco case, the acquirers of
the Old Supervac claimed to have no knowledge of the capital dividend account. When the CDA
came to light, they then tried to pay out a capital dividend from New Supervac to Groupe Honco
who then paid a capital dividend to Gestion Paul Lacasse. In both situations the parties are
disobeying the anti avoidance rule.
We can use the conclusion from this case to state that the acquisition of Old Supervac s shares
and declaration of a capital dividend form a part of the same series of transactions. When deciding
to elect the dividend being declared as a capital dividend,

The Origins of Voodoo Essay
The Origins of Voodoo Voodoo is a religion rich in heritage and founded in faith and community.
The religion has been villainized by western culture and has been wrongly portrayed as
malignant and dangerous. The religion is not founded in any of the (known) black magics or fear
popularized by Hollywood films, but rather it is based on balance and tradition. The religion is
not something that should be encountered with inhibition or fear induced from childhood horror
stories, but embraced for its strength and history. Voodoo originated as an amalgam of African
religions during the slave trade. As slaves were shipped from Africa to the Caribbean, groups of
slaves sharing a similar heritage were broken apart to prevent any sense of... Show more content on

In the three centuries of religious oppression, voodoo became a symbol of pride and
independence for the slaves. Any pride in a slave is, of course, regarded as a threat to the slave
owner. Rumors of human sacrifice and devil worship became prevalent in the social circles of
plantation owners and slave traders. These statements had no validity, but traveled quickly
throughout the Caribbean and America. The practitioners of voodoo embraced this fear as
means to frighten their former masters and gain some respect in a world where they were
deprived of everything. Former slave owners quickly found themselves duped into the beliefs of
voodoo dolls and hexes. Of course, many slave owners simply killed their slaves rather than be
frightened by the voodoo. The practice itself is not actually frightening or powerful in any way,
but that doesn?t matter to superstitious folks like those in Salem. No historical evidence of
human sacrifice or affiliation with Satan has been discovered (Voodoo), or likely ever will be.
Primary religions involved in the African aspect of voodoo are Macumba and Candomble of the
Yoruba people of Nigeria, and several now extinct tribes from the Congos and Cameroon. These
religions lay the groundwork for the course of religious ceremonies and contain the origins for the
deities worshipped in modern voodoo. Voodoo?s principle deity, Olorun is the voodoo equivalent to
God. Though the name can be traced to the Yoruba tribe, it is unknown if

The Pact Essay
The Pact The novel The Pact which was read over the summer by Penn State students was
considered interesting to some and dull to others. I personally enjoyed the book since I could
relate to the book in more ways than one. The story takes pace in an inner city setting with three
young men who become doctors and plan to give back to the community in any way they
possibly can. The three young men are known as Sam, George and Rameck. Each of these
characters posses a different personality which contributes to the book as a whole. Throughout the
book I felt connected to one character, that character was George. George and I share similar
qualities and our lifestyles can relate. One major characteristic I found in George is his ability...

He constantly reminded them of the benefits of graduating from college and succeeding in what
they wanted to do. Sam and Rameck might have had other options but their plans would not be
beneficial in the long run. Some of these options included, starting a rap group, selling drugs
back in their home town, and playing basketball. These might have sounded good at first but
they would only last for a certain time. Graduating from college with that degree and helping out
those in need was more of a priority and turned out to be a better plan, the key plan during that
time was to follow through with their higher education. While George and I share same social
aspects we also share some personal aspects with each other. Like George, I was left without a
father figure in my life. George s father and my father left around the same time in our lives,
which I find particularly interesting. Our fathers left when we were between the ages of seven
and ten years old. As our fathers left we were looked at as the man of the house in our
household. This might seem like a big responsibility for young boys our age but, we established
ways to make a positive result for ourselves and those affected by the situation. George tried his
best to help his mom out in any way possible. He helped

Chinese Speakers Should Not Be Denounced
This western name adaption of Chinese speakers should not be denounced as simple nicknames
due to the fact that they are not only used between close acquaintances, but also professionally.
Although not used in legal documentation, these western names serve as a dual identity for a
majority of Chinese speakers, an alias if you will. This practice can be observed more in the
Cantonese speaking Hong Kong, however it is not an exclusive practice. Mandarin speaking
Mainland China and Taiwan are also known for this western name adaption practice. Not only are
Chinese speakers adapting western names, but by using such aliases they are also borrowing the
Western interpersonal communication system, which ultimately differs from the Chinese one
governed by Confucius. The traditional Chinese rituals and rules of social interaction do not favor
the use of our given names with non acquaintances. Our Chinese given names tend to be used only
with intimate others, Li explains. Li s 1997 research paper further explains, Addressing a person
with his/her Chinese given name, apart from showing intimate relations, also often signifies a
downward communication. (Li 1997) This new identity turns out to come of use when associating
with both new acquaintances and old acquaintances. It helps smooth out the process of getting
acquainted something that is crucial in various professions, whether it is for business or public
relations. Any profession inevitably benefits from this

Economics Assignment Opportunity Cost Lets start with a small introduction to the topic
Opportunity Cost. Opportunity cost is the cost of any activity measured in terms of the value of
the next best alternative forgone (that is not chosen). It is the sacrifice related to the second best
choice available to someone, or group, who has picked among several mutually exclusive choices.
The opportunity cost is also the cost (as a lost benefit) of the forgone products after making a
choice. Opportunity cost is a key concept in economics, and has been described as expressing the
basic relationship between scarcity and choice . The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Explicit costs are opportunity costs that involve direct monetary payment by producers. The
opportunity cost of the factors of production not already owned by a producer is the price that the
producer has to pay for them. For instance, a firm spends $100 on electrical power consumed,
their opportunity cost is $100. The firm has sacrificed $100, which could have been spent on other
factors of production. Now lets look at some real life examples from my life inorder to understand
Opportunity Costs better.
Opportunity Cost Examples that I myself have been across I have only Rs 1000 to spend and I
have two choices, I can eat at a nice restaurant or buy a good cricket bat instead. I spend my Rs
1000 on buying the cricket bat, then the opportunity cost of that choice is the delicious meal I did
not choose and let go.
Opportunity Cost also works in regards to time. Eg I only have two hours of free time. I could
either go to a movie or meet a friend of mine. I choose to spend my time at the movie, the
opportunity cost of this decision is the time I could have spent enjoying the company of my friend.
Here s another example When for the first time I decided to invest my saved money lying with
me.I had two options that I could do with the money I had. My first choice was either investing in
Mutual Funds or leave the money in a Savings Account that earns only 5% per year. I invested

In the 10th century between the years of 1237 to 1480 B.C.E., Russia converted to the Christian
religion but did not convert to the Catholic Church practices. Russia was a member of the
Byzantine Eastern Orthodox Church. The religion of the Byzantine power was founded by
Constantine, but it ended in 1453. The major differences in the Catholic and Orthodox churches
were church governors. In the Catholic Church, the pope was in charge of Catholics, and the
patriarchs (who functioned as arch bishops) governed the Byzantines. The practice of
Caesaropapism (emperor of head of church and state...no pope) was introduced to Russiaand was a
legacy in the Byzantine Church, and Russia applied it to their government.

Memoirs of a Geisha and the Bluest Eye Essay example
Comparison Essay of Memoirs of a Geisha and the Bluest Eye Memoirs of a Geisha by Aurthor
Golden and The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison are two thought provoking books with a unique
style of writing. Memoirs of a Geisha has a beautiful poetic grammar which captures readers
imagination and brings the story to life. Morrison on the other hand uses combined voices to give
varied perspectives with out resorting to authorial intrusion or preaching. Memoirs Of A Geisha and
the bluest eyeboth contain graphic realism combined with a dramatic flair, which is the key as to
why both of these books have been a great success.

Sayuri envies Hatsumomo as she is a beautiful well known geisha. However Hatsumomo despises
Sayuri because she knows that Sayuri has the determination and beauty to become better than she
is and Hatsumomo does everything in her way to stop Sayuri from becoming a Geisha. Pecola
however envies Shirly Temple because she has blue eyes and is beautiful. All of the parents adore
Shirly temple because of the beauty she possesses. Both books involve hatred, selfishness, jealousy,
love and betrayal.
Memoirs of a Geisha has several different themes entwined in to the story, what I take to be the
theme of this memoir is that a person can accomplish anything in life if they have set their mind
on it and if they believe they can get there. Never giving up hope and always looking for a
brighter day will eventually lead you to what you re out there searching for. In Sayuri s case, she
was a slave who won the heart of a man and worked herself up to become one of the most
successful geishas in all of Japan and to be united with the man she loved who motivated her all
her life. I feel people should learn to be courageous from Sayuri and never give up dreaming
because I believe that if you want something badly, you can transform your dreams into realties.
This theme that is illustrated in Memoirs of a Geisha is most probably the opposite of what
happens in The Bluest Eye. This however is not saying that the

The Religions Of Afro Brazilian Religions
Throughout this chapter there were eight major woman centered religions discussed. Afro Brazilian
Religions; which seems to incorporate elements of Amerindian religions, African tribal religions,
Catholicism, and Kardecism. Public rituals in which a female medium would be possessed by
spirits was a main feature of this religion. Black Carib Religion; This religion had some of the
same main features as Afro Brazilian religions such as communicating with spirits and instead of
female mediums contacting the spirits in this case the older women would be the spiritual
leaders. A majority of Black Caribs are Roman Catholics as well. The next religion discussed
was the Burmese Nat Religion; they have a lot of the same beliefs as the previous two religions.
Most rituals were preformed by women and almost all of the shamans are women. Burmese Nat
Religions coexists with Buddhist Practices. Christian Science was created by Mary Baker Eddy
in the 1800s. They basically believe that self healing happens after a balance of prayer and study.
This religion in the most different so far. It doesn t seem to have the same spiritual beliefs and
rituals. Korean Household Religion is where Korean women give up offerings for the well being
of their homes to the gods. They also call upon female shamans for advice. I ve noticed that so far,
Women are expected to grow spiritually through themselves and they rely on other women for
guidance. I wonder why men and women can grow in spirituality together?

In the early 70s, the cattle market suffered a severe crash. To combat this and increase beef
demand, the ANCA helped create a beef checkoff program which began in 1986 and worked to
educate the population and promote high quality beef. In 1977, the National Livestock Feeder s
Association combined with the ANCA to create the National Cattlemen s Association, developing a
wider membership in the cattle industry. Over the next 20 years the group was able to fully focus
on its policy actions by concerning itself with several issues regarding future markets, food safety,
and the environment. Finally, in 1996, the NCA merged with the Beef Industry Council of the Meat
Board, allowing for full coverage of all aspects of the cattle industry and creating the National
Cattlemen s Beef Association as it is known today (Patrick). The NCBA continues to fight
against the same challenges it has faced in its more than a hundred year history as well as the
new challenges of today. As recently as this week, the NCBA has had trouble influencing policy
in its favor. The country of origin labeling requirements in the 2014 Farm Bill were not changed to
the NCBA s liking (Farm Press). The new rules require meat products to be labeled with where the

  • 2. Using RFID Technology in the Transportation Sector RFID or radio frequency identification is the name given to the technology that uses radio waves to transmit data and uniquely identify an animal, person, or thing ( radio frequency identification, 2013). An RFID system includes a transponder including an antenna and a chip that can easily store a significant amount of data such as location details, manufacturer details and product numbers if any. There are three basic types of the RFIDreaders. Fixed readers with an external antenna which are often used at the entry points of the yards. Handheld readers are used by personnel moving through the yards or the space. Then there are mobile readers which are set on the moving vehicles and moving equipment for increasing accuracy and tracking the process ( Advantages of RFID in Transportation and Logistics , 2011). In the current times, radio frequency identification technology has upgraded from anonymity into applications that are rather used normally and as a consequence has helped in the acceleration of manufactured materials handling (Want, 2006). There are several uses of RFID in various sectors. However, this paper will only deal with its uses in the transportation sector and how effectively this modern technology has helped in the growth of business and ease for people all over the world. RFID technology has a number of applications in the domain of transportation including electronic toll collection (ETC), electronic vehicle registration (EVR), automatic ... • 3. The Princess And The Pea Criticism People think of lions and tigers as royalty, so it is not surprising that they are used in this version of The Princess and the Pea. Originally written by Hans Christian Andersen, this fairy tale has a prince who wishes to marry a princess, but the queen insists it must be a proper princess. The illustration in this adaptation, drawn by Janet Stevens, shows the beginning of the conflict, with the queen insisting on a true princess for the princes wife. The illustration conveys clear distinctions of the feelings of the king from the queen and the prince. There are negative feelings on the left side of the picture, which are captured by the king, who is looking away from the rest of his family. His legs are crossed, which means he... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The queen and prince are literally on a red carpet, which represents celebrity status. The queen is wearing lots of rings and other jewels, displaying her status. The son looks like the father, as they are both lions, yet is more in tune with the tiger mother. He is drawn behind the queen, which exhibits a lesser status, yet a closer relationship with his mother than what he has with his father. There is much more yellow on the right side, about thirty percent of the picture, and the son is wearing the most. The background is farther away, focusing on the two. The son is observing his mother, revealing that he looks to her for guidance, not the king. The phrase tiger mom comes to mind, since she is making the decisions for the son and he knows this. One s eye goes straight to the queen, who is in the middle, which confirms that she is the main focus of this illustration. There are fewer rigid lines on the right, which shows less oppression. If the three royal figures are part of a triangle, they are the closer ends, with the king much farther away. Their body language is much more open than the king s, as well. The cap that the son is wearing is eye grabbing, as it is orange. The orange of the cap signifies his youth, as well as suggesting he is flamboyant. Just as English is read left to right, so are pictures. The picture in this adaptation of The Princess and the Pea illustrates this. There are negative feelings on the left, which is shown by the lion king. The tiger queen and lion son have more hope. Considering how the mother wants all the control, it makes sense to have the emotions to go this way. All in all, the beginning of the conflict of this story is perfectly captured by this ... • 4. Optimism Optimism Optimism is a mental attitude or world view that interprets situations and events as being best (optimized), meaning that in some way for factors that may not be fully comprehended, the present moment is in an optimum state. The concept is typically extended to include the attitude of hope for future conditions unfolding as optimal as well. The more broad concept of optimism is the understanding that all of nature, past, present and future, operates by laws of optimization along the lines of Hamilton s principle of optimization in the realm of physics. This understanding, although criticized by counter views such as pessimism, idealism and realism, leads to a state of mind that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He hoped that society would eventually reach the state where calm reason would replace all violence and force, that mind could eventually make matter subservient to it, and that intelligence could discover the secret of immortality. Much of this philosophy is exemplified in the Houyhnhnms of Jonathan Swift s Gulliver s Travels. Panglossianism The term panglossianism describes baseless optimism of the sort exemplified by the beliefs of Pangloss from Voltaire s Candide, which are the opposite of his fellow traveller Martin s pessimism and emphasis on free will. The phrase panglossian pessimism has been used to describe the pessimistic position that, since this is the best of all possible worlds, it is impossible for anything to get any better. The panglossian paradigm is a term coined by Stephen Jay Gould and Richard Lewontin to refer to the notion that everything has specifically adapted to suit specific purposes. Instead, they argue, accidents and exaptation (the use of old features for new purposes) play an important role in the process of evolution. Some other scientists however argue the implication that many (or most) adaptionists are panglossians is a straw man. • 5. The Mormon Church I was raised in what now would be called White privilege. The Edgemont area in Provo, Utah was an extremely homogenous culture. My family, along with most of the other families in my neighborhood were young, White, middle class, highly educated, conservative, heterosexual, and Mormon with European ancestry. My father, along with most of the other fathers in the neighborhood, was a professor at Brigham Young University. Our culture was based on the teachings of the MormonChurch with a rich pioneer heritage which we celebrated every 24th of July. As children, we would don pioneer garb, decorate wagons and bikes to look like covered wagons or handcarts and march around the church building pretending to be pioneers. Not only was this event fun, but we could feel the pioneer blood flowing through our veins. The pioneers represented to us hard work, sacrifice, devotion, obedience, courage, fortitude and love of God. The Mormon Church was organized in 1830, as a collectivist society where the good of the church was more important than the individual. In those days, when the church gave a member an assignment, including leaving the family to go on a mission, moving to a new location, or allowing a husband to marry another wife, and performed these tasks no matter the personal sacrifice required. The collectivist practice of the United Order was instituted in the late 1800 s in a small town in Southern Utah called Orderville. My Great grandparents were part of this system where ... • 6. Motel Chronicles Sam Shepard Analysis Motel Chronicles Sam Shepard left his wife and child because he fell desperately in love with Jessica Lange. Later on in the story we start to see the pain it caused Olan and Jessica in Shepard and Dark, when Dark talks about how things were at the house when Shepard left. Without a doubt, it is definitely upsetting and painful that your husband or father leaves you suddenly. Shepard also experienced a great deal of pain himself, during the process of wondering if he should leave or not. This tore Shepard up inside. It was like an internal play between two choices of action seen in Shepard. Knowing the internal struggle he was going through, he sees how this really affected him. Shepard was being torn in two different directions... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At this point we know that Johnny took the footage in the book. Since we know that Johnny was there, we now know where the photo came from, from Motel Chronicles. We also start to see the importance of photographs themselves. Shepard said that photos could be more powerful than language itself, because it hits you with an immediate image and emotional response; Shepard also compares it to music. He understood the emotional impact that a single image could have and how often times could be more powerful than what language could do. Shepard didn t have a good relationship with his father. He hated his father, and hated when people would compare him with his father. His father was abusive and alcoholic and not the best father. Part of the reason why Shepard wrote about his families and father was to work out the damages that, which caused him in his past. • 7. Why A Penny Is The United States Government Should... Say Goodbye to the Penny There is a good chance that when an item is purchased, change will be given back. It is also very likely that the change included multiple pennies. These pennies will then proceed to be left in a pocket and forgotten, never to be used again because their purchasing power is non existent. The United States government should discontinue the manufacturing of pennies. Pennies do not serve the primary role of currency anymore. Also, pennies are uneconomical to produce and waste taxpayers moneyby lining the pockets of corporations. Lastly, many other countries have discontinued the production of their centpieces with no negative impact. To understand why a penny does not fulfill its role as currency anymore,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the beginning of the use of fiat currency, many governments backed the value of the currency with gold. For a while, thirty five United States Dollars could be traded for 1 Troy ounce of gold at a bank. Today however, the USD is no longer backed by gold. Most money today is just worthless paper , and if the government endorsing that money fails, it turns that currency into useless paper. (This is causes hyperinflation and recently happened to the Zimbabwean dollar.) All of this ties back into the original problem with pennies. Fiat currency cannot itself be worth more than the value it is given. It would make absolutely no sense to take a dollar worth of gold and make it into a 50 cent coin. If this was done, people would just use the coin as gold, not the 50 cent piece it was supposed to be. When the material fiat money is made out of is worth more than the government proclaimed value, the purpose of that currency has failed and it has turned back into commodity currency. A penny currently costs 1.8 cents to make. That 1.8 cent chuck of metal is then assigned a value of 1 cent. It is unthinkable to lose .8 cents for every penny manufactured. This is just like the aforementioned example where a dollar worth of gold was made into a 50 cent coin. When quarters and dimes used to be made out of silver, and the price of silver started to rise, the silver content in coins was reduced so ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Negative Effects Of Drug Prohibition Numerous researchers contend that drug prohibition policies actually create more issues than are solved. The negative effects of drug restriction policies include: negative health effects, increased drug effects, crimes at home and abroad, increased violence, misuse of assets and resources, violation of civil rights and excess on criminal and government systems. Heavy emphasis on upholding criminal restrictions on drugcreation and selling was also significantly influencing the productivity of illegal drug markets and increasing the development and operations of groups that carry out crimes, corrupt powers, and undermine the rules and laws in numerous countries. Bertram et al. states that drug related crimes is not necessarily the result of drug use but rather of the conditions under which people are constrained, by drug prohibition policies, to purchase and sell drugs. The sorts of unlawful acts and crimes related to drugs are, to a great extent, made by drug policies. Laws that make drug ownership illegal, create the largest amount of drug criminals. Different crimes, for example, violent acts and burglary, are created by underground markets (black markets) in which drugs are traded. Our government is ensuring the monopoly of the black market by restricting the utilization of non prescribed drugs. There is a great interest for which there must be a great supply and the present laws prohibiting drug exchange and usage encourage the development of these underground markets. ... • 9. Youth Incarceration Research Paper The Incarceration of Juveniles It is estimated that on any given day there are 80,000 youth incarcerated in the United States, which is more than any other developed country in the world(Townes, 1). Incarcerating youth before exploring other options is a social injustice. Judges rather give short term solutions than permanently fix the problem. To understand why this is a social injustice, four pieces of information must be known: the causes, who it affects and how, who s responsible, and solutions in place. Incarcerating youth affects them in many different ways. One way is the psychiatric damage prisons cause. Being in prison means that the child is not able to be with their family and community, which can lead to feelings of loneliness and depression. Studies show that incarcerated youth die from suicide at a rate two to three times more than non incarcerated youths (Polish,1). In addition to mental health effects, incarceration at a young age affects the person s future by lowering their chances of finding a job. When sentenced to a correctional facility, the child s education is stopped and they become 38 times more likely to become a repeat offender(Koehler,1). With no education and a... Another major fact is improper evaluations. Improper evaluations lead to children, who are considered non public threats, being thrown in jail. In addition, improper evaluations lead to youth with mental illnesses being placed behind bars and not receiving medical attention. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Chapter II Review of related Literature Summary: Online gaming has faced and still faces many problems. The main reason for this is that the Internet was not designed for such a medium. The Internet was designed to provide redundant points of communication, not to provide high speed arcade action (Bates, Lag and the Game Reviewers 175). A few technological barriers stand in the way of a vision of ideal multi player gaming over the Internet. The most significant of these technological problems are the problems of latency and reliability. Internet latency is inevitable data transfer delays that create lag in games, keeping an online game from running smoothly. Some also feel that because of this lag, true interactive gaming will never be possible over the Internet. Bandwidth issues are also a problem. Receiving data is difficult over the Internet, particularly collecting data from several players in a multi player game. Another problem that online gamers face is finding people to play with online. Dedicated game server sites have helped answer this problem. MPath, TEN, and BattleNet are some such game systems whose principal mission is match making. The tracker communicates with the other computers in the swarm and shares their corresponding IP addresses with everyone in the swarm so the computers can connect to one another. The tracker does not handle any of the data being transmitted, it merely provides a medium for the computers to keep track of which computers are in the swarm. In other words, when an individual wants to download a file, first they download a torrent file and access it via a client that contains a tracker allowing them to download the file from not one but many people at one time. This allusion to the civil war in Ireland acts as a great reference to history while trying to communicate the idea of how civil war divides an entire country as a whole. The reason that this allusion communicates so well lies in the fact that it brings the mind to reality, instead of viewing The Sniper as a made up story. In this story exists a situational irony that comes across as the biggest point of the story, in which a sniper kills his brother. Out of the entire story the biggest point ...emphasizes one of the greatest ironies of civil war: Brother is pitted against brother (Shuman 3). This acts as situational irony because no one expects that the enemy sniper could turn out as the brother of the Republican sniper. This irony shows how war does not only affect the soldiers but their families as well because they have to suffer the death of their children. Lutherans are the first of the major denominations that broke away from the Roman Catholic Church in a bid to reform it from some practices and doctrines that had no or little justification. The Christian community, though centered in salvation through Jesus Christ, has been divided into sub sects, with some differences in their teachings, doctrine and ceremonial celebrations. Two of the most commonly misconstrued sects would be the Lutheran and the Baptism Churches. As mentioned, both religions believe in and worship the same God, refer to the same Bible and hold communal gatherings to celebrate their faith. The principal dissimilarity is their doctrines and preaching/teaching methods. There are differences in their ceremonies, too, particularly in the manner in which Holy Communion is administered and the over all formality of the worship service. The following comparison would affirm that Lutherans are more sacramentarian in theology and worship, while ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The religion has been villainized by western culture and has been wrongly portrayed as malignant and dangerous. The religion is not something that should be encountered with inhibition or fear induced from childhood horror stories, but embraced for its strength and history. In the three centuries of religious oppression, voodoo became a symbol of pride and independence for the slaves. Any pride in a slave is, of course, regarded as a threat to the slave owner. Rumors of human sacrifice and devil worship became prevalent in the social circles of plantation owners and slave traders. These statements had no validity, but traveled quickly throughout the Caribbean and America. The practitioners of voodoo embraced this fear as means to frighten their former masters and gain some respect in a world where they were deprived of everything. Former slave owners quickly found themselves duped into the beliefs of voodoo dolls and hexes. Of course, many slave owners simply killed their slaves rather than be frightened by the voodoo. The practice itself is not actually frightening or powerful in any way, but that doesn?t matter to superstitious folks like those in Salem. No historical evidence of human sacrifice or affiliation with Satan has been discovered (Voodoo), or likely ever will be. Primary religions involved in the African aspect of voodoo are Macumba and Candomble of the Yoruba people of Nigeria, and several now extinct tribes from the Congos and Cameroon. This practice can be observed more in the Cantonese speaking Hong Kong, however it is not an exclusive practice.
