Introduction
Clinical trials are research based studies that are performed to determine whether a drug, device,
or medical procedure (depending on the stage of the study) is safe and effective. A complete set
of trials that would include all phases may cost hundreds of millions of dollars which is usually
paid for by a sponsor such as a government agency or a for profit company. Increasingly, clinical
trial activities are contracted out to service providers such as an academic medical center (AMC), a
contract research organization (CRO), or a physician s practice and this outsourcing requires
negotiation and execution of CTAs. Therefore, a clinical trial agreement (CTA) is required between
the sponsor and the organization to conduct the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This may sound odd, but it is vital to ensure that the party is a legal entity. In addition, the corporate
identifier and address should appear in the agreement. The individual signing the agreement must be
an authorized representative of that organization who can legally bind it to perform the obligations
stated in the agreement. It is also important to identify the Investigator who is assigned to conduct
the study and whether the Investigator is an employee of the organization. Otherwise, the
Investigator may be considered party to the agreement whose personal obligations, as well as
liabilities, must be included in the agreement. Services: The agreement has to set forth the parties
mutual rights and obligations in connection with the conduct of the study. Therefore, it is
important that the agreement clearly and succinctly reflects what each party will be responsible
for. The language in the CTA should be vague or general, the wording must be exact and precise;
otherwise a party s expectations or understanding may be misplaced and the agreement may be
breached. Laws: The life sciences is a highly regulated industry subject to local, state, and federal
laws and regulations. In addition, if the sponsor is a foreign entity, there may be a host of other
laws and regulations that would influence the agreement. The laws and regulations

Narrator s Role in Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby and Kerouac s On The Road
Over the last fifty years, since the release of On The Road in 1957, it has not been uncommon for
critics to draw parallels between
Kerouac s semi autobiographical novel and Fitzgerald s The Great
Gatsby, released thirty two years previously. It is for certain that both the novels share many similar
traits, both examine concepts of
American ideals and The American Dream, both are heavily influenced by the jazz age of the time,
but nothing binds the novels closer to one another than the authors use of the first person narrative
and that narrators relationship with their leading character.
It is perhaps the most common reading to see both Jay Gatsby ... Show more content on

Nick is told of Gatsby s shady underworld connections and unhealthy obsession with a youthful
love affair, whilst Sal is aware of Dean s unstable background which saw him in and out of young
offender units as well as knowing that he is one driven by his lust for both sex and drugs. It is left
to A. E. Dyson to explain why Nick allows himself to be won over by such a character,
[Nick Caraway s] conscious moral instinct is to disapprove [of
Gatsby]: but his imagination is fascinated since perhaps here, in this extraordinary man, the
romantic promise is at last fulfilled.
With this, Dyson is suggesting that Nick is just far too captivated by
Gatsby and the world surrounding him, everything that makes him
great , to disapprove of him.
Sal s reaction to Dean is much more straight forward. It is revealed that Sal has always had an
appetite for adventure and he states that it had always been his intention to travel America but has
never experienced the guiding force to make him do it, it is easy to see from this why Sal is so
mesmerised to his hero, whose enthusiasm not only drives himself but those around him. This is a
sentiment picked up on by O. Swartz,
Dean is the novel. Sal could spend his entire life travelling across the country, but without Dean, the
travel could not be a transcendence. This is perhaps highlighted by the fact that Dean spends a lot
of time driving Sal about the

Assess some of the ways in which Third World Debt might be reduced.
Despite the overwhelming number of statistics and indicators, global poverty is as hard to measure
as it is to conceptualize. One fact is undeniable: someone is going to have to pay for past debts. It
could be the people in debtor countries, or the banks, or the people in advanced industrial countries.
Most likely it will be some combination of these three groups. In the last ten years, there have been
a variety of proposals which, unfortunately, usually reflect only the special interests of the groups
proposing them. Generally speaking, these solutions fall into three categories: repudiation, minor
adjustments in repayments, or reduction.
A report Relief ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There have been no serious proposals for a widespread and coordinated repudiation of global debt.
Repudiation would seriously disrupt global economic relations, probably far beyond the immediate
losses of the debts themselves.
Retaliations would follow, because it would be politically impossible for lenders not to react, and
because there would be a conscious effort to warn other potential defaulters against similar action.
The escalation of economic warfare would have the effect of sharply reducing international
economic interactions in trade, investment, and exchange. Such an outcome is in no one s interest.
There is nothing to guarantee that the countries won t simply get into debt all over again and
continue to owe more allegiance to first world elites than to their own people. Repudiation also let
s off the hook the World Bank,
IMF and commercial lenders who created these injudicious loans in the first place.
Another option would be to cancel debt with conditions. Part of the cycle is that as countries get
deeper in debt and grow more impoverished as they try to repay, the lenders impose a whole new
range of what they say are anti poverty and anti corruption conditions, but which most often have
other agendas, such as opening up poor countries to multi national companies.
Therefore a proactive proposal that meets several criteria needs to be developed in order for this
method to be

A Brief Note On The Federal Aviation Agency Essay
dministration (FAA) is a federal agency within the United States Department of Transportation.
The Federal Aviation Administration was first named the Federal Aviation Agency . The Federal
Aviation Agency was established when the Federal Aviation Act of 1958 was created. With the
creation of the Federal Aviation Act of 1958 it then gave more responsibilities to the FAA. These
responsibilities included complete control of oversight and regulation for safety within the
aviation industry. And the FAA was also responsible for military and civilian aircrafts within
American airspace. This was a great idea because it s better to have one agency overseeing both
entities to ensure accuracy and safety. Since there is one agency responsible for oversight this will
lead to faster problem solving because this agency has the final say and it does not have to rely or
get a confirmation from another agency about a particular issue relating to American airspace. The
Federal Aviation Agency name was changed to the Federal Aviation Administrationwhen the United
State Department of Transportation adopted the Federal Aviation Agency. *** you input:

†The Metamorphosis’ and †A Hunger Artist’
There are many parallels and differences between Franz Kafka s The Metamorphosis and A Hunger
Artist . Kafka portrays these differences and similarities very effectively through his utilization of
elements such as transformation, dehumanization, and dedication to work. Through his works,
Kafka communicates with the reader in such a way that almost provokes and challenges one s
imagination and creativity.
Kafka is known for his highly symbolic and oblique style of writing. It is no surprise that several of
his pieces contain the same major themes, just in different settings. The fact that he repeats his
styles only makes the message that he is trying to convey much stronger. In both The
Metamorphosis and A Hunger Artist , the main... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In A Hunger Artist, the main character s lack of fulfillment causes him despair. He reacts to this
disparity by starving himself, almost as if showing resistance to the outside world. He views
himself as separate from everyone else, thus confining himself in a cage (Bedford 636).
Another evident similarity between the two works is the treatment of the characters. Both Gregor
and the hunger artist are treated inhumanely. This is clear in The Metamorphosis when Greta
begins to think of Gregor as an it (Metamorphosis 51). Although Gregor has transformed
physically, he is still human inside. Everyone around him fails to see that though, and only regard
him by what they see, which is a bug. Likewise, the hunger artist is not treated as a human being
either. The hunger artist is infatuated with being the best faster in Europe. This obsession deprives
him from forming any social or long lasting relationships. His alienation eventually accounts for his
demise, along with the fact that he is constantly misunderstood. The people who come to see him,
as well as the people who guard him, do not understand that he is not fasting for amusement.
Fasting beyond the forty day limit is important to the hunger artist, but no one can comprehend
why, which creates a barrier between the hunger artist and the outside world. Because of this
barrier, people treat him as if he is just another animal in a cage. When he joins

The Use Of Symbolism In Macbeth
Clothes makes the man... or so they say. William Shakespeare uses many literary devices to
emphasize important recurring ideas in his plays. One of the techniques Shakespeare uses to
illustrate internal conflict is the use of imagery, which allows the audience grasp his intentions
through unique representations. The usage of such figurative language inspires an understanding
of the plot at a deeper level, as well as to serve specific purposes. One of the most important types
of imagery employed in Shakespeare s play Macbethis the motif of clothing, which is used to
symbolize power and conceal evil deeds.
The use of clothing in the play is crucial in emphasizing the positions of power in Scotland, as
well as how that power suits the person who wields it. At the beginning of Act One, when Ross
delivers Macbeth the news that Macbeth is now the Thane of Cawdor, Macbeth questions him by
asking Why do you dress me / In borrowed robes? (1.3.114 115). The robes Macbeth mentions
refer to the new title and power he has been granted, which he doesn t think belongs to him. Banquo
notes of Macbeth s uncertainty in his new titles, and assures Macbeth that like our strange
garments, cleave not to their mold / But with the aid of use (1.4.160 162). Banquo reasons that the
longer Macbeth has the title, the more familiar and better fitting the role would suit him. However,
Banquo s claims does not seem to come true, as the clothing Macbeth wears continues to be ill
fitting. Another

Jihad and the World Essay
On the eleventh of September of 2001, 2993 people lost their lives in the destruction of the Twin

the initial events, destroying nearby buildings and damaging others. Al Qaida claimed

religious duty of Muslims, the word Jihad means struggle . There are two general understanding of

But, they reject the idea of Jihad against innocent Muslims such as the terrorist attacks against Iraqi
civilians.
Liberal Muslim political organizations are against the idea of Jihad; they want to establish good
relations with other foreign countries based on respectful bonds that, among other things, will help
in the mutual development of economies and educational systems. The idea of Jihad will
considered if a real threat on their country already happened.
All non Muslims governments and parties in the world are against Jihad because they are likely
to become one of its targets and will lead to high civilian costs of life among the populations and
the degradation of civil rights that have been established. Since Jihad is affecting the whole world
morally and mentally, someone could ask Is Jihad ethical? Jihad could be examined by three
philosophical principles such as Natural Law, Utilitarianism and Categorical Imperative. In order
to analyze Jihad according to the three philosophical principles, a preview of each principle should
be available.
Natural law is an ethical prospective that deals with Nature and religious beliefs. According to this
principle, anything came from nature or happened because of nature s causes should be ethical.

During a long career of liaisons, seductions, and work for the River Company, Florentino persists in
his unquenchable hope for life with Fermina. Juvenal Urbino, an eminent doctor, civic leader, and
staunch Catholic, dedicates his life to eradicating cholera by introducing modern science to putrid
swamp areas (Jennings 1).
Jennings describes the differences between Florentino and Dr. Urbino. Florentino is a loyal
romantic who endlessly seeks the love of Fermina whereas, Juvenal Urbino is set in his ways and
dedicates his life to putting an end to cholera. With this Dr. Urbino has status and wealth. This
brings light to Lorenzo Daza s reasoning for taking Fermina away and promoting a relationship
with Dr. Juvenal Urbino. When Janie is young, she looks for nothing more than love in a
relationship. Janie s grandmother, Nanny, catches her kissing Johnny Taylor across the gatepost.
The kiss outrages Nanny and she then arranges a marriage between Janie and Logan Killicks. Janie
expresses her grief and Nanny responds with, Better leave things de way dey is. Youse young

person and Mr. Hyde represents the evil persona that everyone has. The symbolism in this novel
makes it interesting and meaningful.
The novel further proves that the inner devil is desperately trying to escape. The terminology
for Jekyll and Hyde could also be found in a dictionary. Such definitions can be found: (1) one
who has a quasi schizophrenic, alternating phases of pleasantness and unpleasantness (2) a
person having a split personality, one side of which is good and the other evil and (3) this phase
refers to a person who alternates between charming demeanor and extremely unpleasant behavior
. Sigmund Freud, a controversial psychiatrist with many questionable theories, described the
symptoms of schizophrenia as the Jekyll and Hyde syndrome . Jekyll and Hyde were two
opposite personalities that made up one person. Stevenson wrote his novel on the assumption
that man is made up of only two parts the good and the evil. In the novel, Mr. Hyde was depicted
as being ugly, disgusting, and much smaller than Dr. Jekyll himself. This was because his evil
side (Mr. Hyde) was a smaller portion than that of the good side (Dr. Jekyll), so Jekyll was

When a minority group s numbers in special education are statistically higher than they should be,

Budget Plan
Introduction Over the past month, we were given out an assignment to create a budget plan for a
given possible situation in our future. We had a gross yearly income of $43000 (or a monthly

for. After finishing the project, we had to answer a series of questions reflecting on our experiences
and learning. I thoroughly enjoyed this project, and found it genuinely eye opening.
Savings
At the end of the budget plan, I had $869.34 left for savings. After comparing this to the numbers

On the Possibility of Transcendental Materialism Essay
On the Possibility of Transcendental Materialism
ABSTRACT: The purpose of this address is to argue for the following theses: (1) the concept of
transcendentality can be associated not only with idealism but also with materialism; (2) such a
connection was made possible by Karl Marx s theory; and (3) in the development of Marxism up to
now, theory has been tied to a political movement, which is an error of principle, for what survives
of it is a kind of social ethics which should more appropriately be called Marxism. Transcendence
and immanence are notions of relationship. Values exist sensually above the senses: e.g., the

This he performs with respect to the philosophies of history which he calls substantive or analytical
and this is fully analogous to drawing the borderline between transcendent and immanent

It is a commonplace that Marx s theory is a continuation of the German classical philosophy
Hegel s in the first place. He, however, wanted to turn the upside down idealist dialectics the right
way up, as he said, and put it on a materialist basis. In doing so he followed not so much Feuerbach
s example as the materialism of the English and French Enlightenment with which he had already
been well acquainted, as is clear from his work Die heilige Familie. Feuerbach instead inspired
Marx to preserve the humanistic pathos, which was present in the Prometheus cult in his doctoral
dissertation, also on materialistic grounds, instead of the sunshine idealism he praised in the
recommendation. Only an anthropologic materialism could naturally serve such purposes the
mature Marx, too, always categorically distanced himself from the metaphysical and natural
scientific materialisms. He also distanced himself from Feuerbach s unhistorically anthropological
materialism. His materialism can only be termed anthropological if anthropology is understood as
a historical anthropology (as Marx himself said in his work Das Elend der

The Immune System Of The Human Body
Immune System

Dr. Kimberly Snead McDaniel
South University Online
We are examining the role the immune system plays within the general day to day operation of the
human body. Further examination of the impaired immune system s profound negative impact on
the whole body system, will also be delineated. The human body has structures and processes inside
the body that defend against infection and additional harmful foreign bodies. When working
appropriately, the immune system detects a diversity of dangers, such as foreign bodies like bacteria,
viruses, and parasites, and attacks them, leaving the healthy body tissue alone. The immune system
also creates safeguards for the body to prevent disruptions of body processes by new pathogens,
traumas, and mutations. There are major components that makes up the immune system spread

The lymphatic system produces and stores cells that helps the body battle infection and diseases.
The lymphatic system contains the following components: bone marrow, thymus, spleen, and
lymph nodes. The lymph system allows the body to move fluids and cells outside the blood and
circulatory system. The lymph system is the most important passageway

The Geography of Dominican Republic
Explored and claimed by Columbus on his first voyage in 1492, the island of Hispaniola became a
spring board for Spanish conquest of the Caribbean and the American mainland. In 1697, Spain
recognized French dominion over the western third of the island, which in 1804 became Haiti. The
remainder of the island, by then known as Santo Domingo, sought to gain its own independence in
1821, but it was conquered and ruled by the Haitians for 22 years. It finally attained independence
as the Dominican Republic in 1844. In 1861 the Dominicans voluntarily returned to the Spanish
Empire, but two years later they launched a war that restored independence in 1865. The

The daguerreotype image was contained inside a leather case with a velvet backing. The
daguerreotype was then replaced in 1851. Flash photography became popular once it was
discovered. Flash photography started off having the flash be made from a white powder that was
ignited, but as time went on it changed from that to a bulb that was on the top of the camera. It
helped many people, who could not afford pictures due to the fact that paintings were expensive.
This was beneficial to mainly the middle and lower classes in society.
In order to capture the moment and be able to keep it is by using negatives. Negatives are used

pictures of the moments they want to remember. In the timeline called Cameras, Film, and the

was used to improve the negative s transmission of light. Hoy later explains, The negatives are
easier to handle, can be prepared in advance, and makes sharper, larger, more detailed prints (426).
In order to produce negatives of different pictures, the main material needed besides a camera is

Old Age And The Process Of Aging
This paper argues that gerontology, the study of old age and the process of aging, have
overlooked gender inequality within policies of patriarchal structures, and within the ideologies of
western capitalist society. This is a major source of women s social and economic powerlessness in
old age. Ray (1996) explains feminist gerontology as a connection between feminism and
gerontology focusing on genderand gender relations. Feminist gerontology deals with populations
of both women and men, and through the connection between gender, conclusions in research on
women are drawn from building upon research based on men (Calasanti, 2004). Patriarchal
structure of western society still maintains the core preference of traditional gender roles, which
lead to familiar results in old age. The manifestation of this ideology can be seen in
advertisement in media and again repeated within institutions of political and educational
domains. Its ability to take several forms produces the root of issues of inequality in old age and
difficulty women face compared to men. Gender, within research of gerontology is relatively
recent in its consideration in exploring the experience of elderly in western society (Wray, 2003).
Therefore, differentiating between genders is done through describing the obstacles that women
face in old age compared to men, such as gap in life expectancy, where women tend to live longer
than men (Backes et al., 2006). Their prolonged lifespan in comparison to men

Spiders Essay
Spiders
Spiders can be found in all environments throughout the entire world, except in the air and sea.
(Biology of Spiders, R.Foelix) These invertebrates of the order Aranea are one of the several groups
of the Class Arachnida, with about thirty four thousand species.
They range in body size from only a few millimeters in length to almost five inches.
All are carniverous and have four pair of walking legs, one pair of pedipalps, and one pair of
chelicerae. (Spiders, W.Shear) Each chelicerae consists of a base and a fang.
The fang folds up inside of a groove in the base until needed when attacking food, then moves out
to bite and releases venom from a tiny opening at its end as it penetrates the prey. (Biology Of

There are some spitting spiders that have only six, and there are some with only two or four
eyes. Some cave spiders have no eyes at all and rely only on vibration. There are great
differences in the ways which spiders capture prey. Some may stalk their prey, while others may
lie in wait and ambush it. Other spiders may weave various types of webs used to capture passing
prey, and there are some smaller commensal spiders that live in larger spiders webs and feed on
the smaller insects neglected by their host. (The Spider Book, J.Comstock)
All spiders spin silk, though not all of them weave webs. Silk is most commonly seen used in
forming webs, which may vary from a highly elaborated orb of spiraling threads to a single
sticky string. Most webs can be placed into one of four different types: the orb webs, the funnel
webs, tangle webs, and the sheet webs. The main purpose of a web is for catching prey. With orb
weavers (Araneidae), the spider will first form a supporting structure of frame threads to which it
will then add on radial threads.
(Biology of Spiders, R.Foelix) These tightly strung threads provide quick access to any where on
the web, and also carry any vibrations from the outer perimeter to the center.
(The Spider Book, J.Comstock) After the innitial threads are placed, the spider will build on a
catching spiral made of sticky silk. These spirals will be what capture and snare prey until the
spider is able to reach it and inject it with its

The Importance Of Instant Gratification
Instant gratification plaguing the U.S workplace?
Since the late 20th century the temptation to fulfill Instant gratification has become more prevalent
in society which has put America in a precarious predicament. In Robert Paul s novel The Impulse
Society: America in the Age of Instant Gratificationhe claims America has found itself in an era
where we desire extensive indulgence which has made us culturally narcissistic , blinding us from
the value of investment and inducing a high risk lifestyle. This currently has managed to raise
concerns regarding the problems that serve as a detriment to the labor force. with instant
gratification even shaping a newer generation of workers, Millennials who were born in an age
where they are used to technology and social media giving them immediate feedback and results in
almost every aspect of their life. with one notable problem being that decisions influenced by instant
gratification seem to be leading to higher rates of unemployment seen with machines threatening to
replace laborers (Derek Thompson). Former president Nixon goes into claim how work ethic is
what allows us to be a industrial nation and is what allowed us to change from a poor nation to a
powerful one over the course of two centuries (Address to the Nation on Labor Day,1). with this
claim, it is pivotal to see the that contemporary times have encouraged instant gratification which
has spread egocentrism in the workforce. This has resulted in the

From above paragraphs we have learnt that lesbian, gay, bisexual youth face discrimination and
marginalization fostered by the social systems that serve them. As a result a social worker should
analyze prudently the use and misuse of power in the client s life (critical consciousness) and
promote engagement to foster social justice (Wagaman, 2016). As stated by Wagaman (2016), the
positive wellbeing of LGB youth can be ensured through such services in accordance with their

Bacon of Long Island, New York; it was passed by congress and signed into law by President
Herbert Hoover on March 3, 1931.
Over the next four years Bacon introduced thirteen more bills to establish regulation of labor on
federal public works projects.[10] Finally, a bill submitted by Bacon and Senator James J. Davis,
with the support of the American Federation of Labor,[11] passed in 1931. The law provided that
all federal construction contractors with contracts in excess of $5,000 or more must pay their
workers the prevailing wage, which in practice meant the wages of unionized labor.
The measure passed because Congressmen saw the bill as protection for local, unionized[12]
white workers salaries in the fierce labor market of the Depression.[13] In particular, white union
workers were angry that black workers who were barred from unions were migrating to the North
in search of jobs in the building trades and undercutting white wages.[14]
The comments of various congressmen reveal the racial animus that motivated the sponsors and
supporters of the bill. In 1930, Representative John J. Cochran of Missouri stated that he had
received numerous complaints in recent months about southern contractors employing low paid
colored mechanics getting work and bringing the employees from the South. [15] Representative
Clayton Allgood, supporting Davis Bacon on the floor of the House, complained of cheap

The War Of Great Britain
In the United States of America as we know it, there are a ton of different countries. Inside these
countries are a ton of smaller and more compact states. Inside these states are a bunch of cities. In
the history of this country, however, there weren t always the states that we know and love. There
originally were these 13 little pieces of land that we refer to as the 13 colonies. These colonies
were once under very harsh rule and were not very equip to fight back and become separated. They
were under the rule of Great Britain. They did not have the man power to gain their independence.
They were not ready for this extremely tough challenge. However, with the army that they had, they
were ready to fight. From the beginning of the time when the British were the rulers of the
Colonies, there was always very heavy tension. The people of the British government, under the rule
of King George III, were extremely harsh rulers. They told the colonies what to do, when to do it,
and how to do it. They were not fair in any way. Beginning in 1765, leading members of the
colonies were not happy with the taxing that the British were putting them under. They felt that the
British government had no right to tax them when they had no representation in government. This
unrest among the colonists had been extremely heated and unyielding until finally they had enough.
The colonists, known as patriots, began to form riots in the streets and start major commotion

Data Analysis And Data Mining
The exponentially increasing amounts of data being generated each year make getting useful
information from that data more and more critical. The information frequently is stored in a data
warehouse, a repository of data gathered from various sources, including corporate databases,
summarized information from internal systems, and data from external sources. Analysis of the
data includes simple query and reporting, statistical analysis, more complex multidimensional
analysis, and data mining. Data analysis and data mining are a subset of business intelligence(BI),
which also incorporates data warehousing, database management systems, and Online. The
technologies are frequently used in customer relationship management (CRM) to analyze patterns
and query customer databases. Large quantities of data are searched and analyzed to discover useful
patterns or relationships, which are then used to predict future behavior. Some estimates indicate
that the amount of new information doubles every three years. To deal with the mountains of data,
the information is stored in a repository of data gathered from various sources, including corporate
databases, summarized information from internal systems, and data from external sources. Properly
designed and implemented, and regularly updated, these repositories, called data warehouses, allow

During the 1800s, slaves received treatment comparable to that of livestock. They were mere
possessions of white men stripped of almost every last bit of humanity in them. African
Americans were constricted to this state of mind by their owners vicious treatment, but also the
practice of keeping them uneducated. Keeping the slaves illiterate hindered them from
understanding the world around them. Slave owners knew this. The slaves who were able to
read and write always rebelled more against their masters. Frederick Douglass, author of A

Douglass never received another beating throughout his last four years of slavery after that incident.
Harriet Jacobs on the contrary to Douglass, had no idea she was a slave until she was six years
old. Her first mistress treated her very well, almost as if she were white. She was taught how to
read and write. The majority of Jacobs family, excluding her father, served the family of her first
mistress very well, and the family returned the favor by treating their slaves with a little bit of
dignity. Her mistress also taught her the Bible. This teaching allowed for Jacobs to know the
rights and wrongs being done to her and other slaves. Harriet picked up on the conversations
around her after her mother died, and she figured out she was a slave from the discussions. After
her first mistress died, Jacobs was put on the auction block for sale as a farm tool. A man named
Dr. Flint purchased her and her brother. Jacobs depicted a gruesome scene of the auction block:
These God breathing machines are no moreВ…than the cotton they plant, or the horses they tend.
(Jacobs, p.11) Jacobs real father was such a skilled craftsmen that he had more feelings of a freed
slave than most others, and in the raising of his children, this thought pattern reflected especially
William. This proved to make things rougher for both Jacobs and her brother William with their

Sentimentalism In Ah Q
Early 20th Century Chinese Sentimentalities
The True Story of Ah Q, as written in 1921 by Lu Xun, is widely seen as a magnum opus of
contemporary Chinese literature. Xun wanted to alter the way of thinking as well as enlighten his
fellow Chinese following the 1911 Revolution that overturned the final Chinese dynasty. Xun uses
the protagonist of the story, Ah Q, as a representative of Chinaas a whole as he saw the nation to be,
giving the reader an insight into social classes and attitudes that permeated Chinese society in the
early 20th century. Xun does not paint a great picture of Ah Q and unfortunately, this is his
opinion of Chinese society as a whole at the time. This portrayal of Chinese society is harsh and
eye opening but to Xun, very accurate and necessary to transform the thinking of Chinese people
at that time. During the early half of the 20th century, China was a struggling nation. The
country was overwhelmingly controlled by foreign powers and had little to no autonomy. After
losing the Opium Wars to Britain and France, coupled with an attack from the Japanese, the
Chinese had very little control over China. These losses led to China also losing Control of the
all important coastal ports that were very lucrative. The European influence permeated the
Chinese country as people felt helpless with their wishes and voices not being heard. Under
such circumstances, one could easily fall into a state of mind where they do not care. This is
similar to the mindset and characteristics of Ah Q. Ah Q was seen as backwards, aloof, careless,
but with an air of arrogance that was delusional. One common trait that comes from people
feeling helpless is drug usage. People use drugs and alcohol to help cope with whatever issues
they are having; this is no different for Ah Q. In one instance, the protagonist is seen drunk,
cavorting around the village, apparently celebrating the fact that one of the elite from the village
had passed an examination given by the county. In his state of drunkenness, Q proclaims that he
has the same last name as the elite, and that they are related. Ashamed and obviously upset with
this false claim made by Q, the elite slapped and scolded Q and was forced to pay a fee to the

its Relation to Hip Hop/Rap When looking at the iTunes or Billboard top 100 lists, much of the
music is hip hop/rap. A key component to music is the narrative of the work and what the work
tries to communicate to its audience. Hip hop/rap has been a staple of the music world of late, and
is most prevalent among the African American community. Modern day hip hop/rap seems to be

that they can own property. In a way, the portrayal of success in hip hop/rap is a response to
freedom socially, politically, and economically. Hip Hop is about having things to prove you re
not a have not, said Questlove. African Americans are no longer the have not s they were; they
have fought through adversity and continue to do so, but they are equal. Hip hop/rap has been
used by the African American community to prove and/or show that they are equal, and that
they have the same unalienable rights that they were deprived of for many years. One could say
that hip hop/rap lyrics are arrogant as well, as if artists were overcompensating for the prior
inadequacy of African American rights. However, the portrayal of success isn t exclusive to hip
hop/rap and its artists. Many celebrities, in one way or another, show off what they have or can

akin to the narrator s oppressive relationship with the reader. More specifically, Wallace reveals
how the narrator and Henry both tend to reduce and manipulate the target of their oppression.
However, Wallace pollutes her analysis with her own propensity to dismiss readers who view
Henry s character differently, to assume that all readers begin the novelwith the same expectations

15% were accepted. The Party is heavily male, with female members making up less than a quarter
of the total.29 Party membership is considered prestigious, although not to the degree that it was in
earlier eras. Every Party member, irrespective of position, must be organized into a branch, cell, or
other specific unit of the Party to participate in the regular activities of the Party organization. Party
units exist in all official and semi official organizations and institutions, including state owned
enterprises and universities. As of 2010, they also existed in more than 400,000 private businesses
and foreign owned enterprises, and the party has sought to establish them in social

Abstract
This article provides a brief introduction to behavioral finance. Behavioral finance encompasses
research that drops the traditional assumptions of expected utility maximization with rational
investors in efficient markets. The two building blocks of behavioral finance are cognitive
psychology (how people think) and the limits to arbitrage (when markets will be inefficient).
The growth of behavioral ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is especially true when one is dealing with a large market, such as the Japanese stock market in
the late 1980s or the U.S. market for technology stocks in the late 1990s. Arbitrageurs that
attempted to short Japanese stocks in mid1987 and hedge by going long in U.S. stocks were right
in the long run, but they lost huge amounts of money in October 1987 when the U.S. market
crashed by more than the Japanese market (because of Japanese government intervention). If the
arbitrageurs have limited funds, they would be forced to cover their positions just when the relative
misvaluations were greatest, resulting in additional buying pressure for Japanese stocks just when
they were most overvalued!
2. Cognitive Biases
Cognitive psychologists have documented many patterns regarding how people behave.
Some of these patterns are as follows:
Heuristics
Heuristics, or rules of thumb, make decision making easier. But they can sometimes lead to biases,
especially when things change. These can lead to suboptimal investment decisions.
When faced with N choices for how to invest retirement money, many people allocate using the
1/N rule. If there are three funds, one third goes into each. If two are stock funds, two thirds goes
into equities. If one of the three

Sports Drinks and Athletic Performance Essay
Since the creation of Gatorade in 1987 sports drinks have become a staple of American athletics.
Every major sports league, including the NBA, NHL, MLB, NFL and NASCAR, are sponsored
by and use Gatorade Thirst Quencher. All Sport and Powerade, two other smaller market sports
drinks, have limited sponsorships of smaller sports leagues including the NCAA. The question is,
how effective is Gatorade and other sports drinksin doing what it they re advertised to do? One has
to wonder if the wide use of Gatorade is merely due to billions of dollars of advertising pumped in
by the company or if it actually does provide some benefits to athletes. The majority of the internet
researchto determine the effectiveness of sports drinks will center... Show more content on

Gatorade:How it Works
According to the official Gatorade web site there are four main ways in which Gatorade helps
improve athletic performance and keeps our bodies functioning normally even under conditions of
extreme physical exertion. First of all several of it ingredients stimulate rapid fluid absorption.
Secondly it assures rapid rehydration which allows us to maintain physiological function and
prevents dehydration. Third, the carbohydrates in Gatorade provide energy to working muscles.
Finally it encourages you to drink more fluid. All the assertions made by Gatorade make sense
but the question still remains about the overall effectiveness of Gatorade and other sports drinks.
We will now take a closer look at the four major ways Gatorade is suppose to work and how it is
suppose to help our athletic performance and general homeostasis.
Rapid Fluid Absorption. Rapid fluid absorption is important during strenuous athletic activity in
order to avoid dehydration. According to Gatorade, research has shown that the 6% carbohydrate
level and presence of salt found in their beverage is optimal for rapid fluid absorption. They also
claim that as the carbohydrate level gets higher than 7% absorption is slowed and therefore fruit
juices and some sports drinks aren t recommended during exercise.
Assures Rapid Rehydration. In this case consuming a properly formulated

The Immigration Crisis Of The United States
The immigration crisis
Akash Patel
Economics
3rd Period
One of the biggest crises the United States fracases is illegal immigrant. Even though we know
about the problem we don t do anything that is effective. Because of illegal immigrant people born
and raised in America are losing jobs.
The current immigration crisis in the US is years of mishandling and gone bad. Many of the
current immigrants here were originally here. This mentality has led to a huge increase in
numbers of illegal immigrants. For example, it is believed that the current number of illegal
immigrants is around 10 to 20 million if not more. Another problem is that the Obama
administration has dropped the number of cases of deportation. Why isn t Obama dropping the
deportation cased. This means tons of money is spent on border security, but the immigrants who
make it through are likely to stay here and use up resources such as money, in turn increasing the
national deficit more than needs to be done. Another problem is when it comes to family.
Pregnant women come to the US and have children. This leads their kids to be legal citizens of
the United States. In 2010 about 4 million United States born children had one parent who was
here illegally. By now there are probably more than 5 million.
Many US citizens either frown upon agricultural work or see it as boring Mexican society,
however, provides Mexicans with an agricultural work ethic and many would

Implementing Alternate Technologies Improve The Power...
IMPLEMENTING ALTERNATE TECHNOLOGIES TO IMPROVE THE POWER HANDLING
CAPACITY OF ALL Si MEMS PHASE SHIFTERS
Abstract: This proposal paper analyze and suggest the alternate methods to reduce the heat
dissipation and power consumption of MEMS phase shifters while they are being used in the real
time environment i.e., in a closed loop operation. So many advancements in the MEMS technology
make the MEMS production very effective, but still there are some drawbacks in its structure and
in its performance, which pulls the system efficiency to down. Self and mutual inductions are the
two major run time defects which affects the performances of the MEMS devices and increases its
power consumption when there is a physical data link between two blocks. If the proper steps are
taken then, the measurement results can range up to 40dBm at 75 GHz or even more. Hence by
using alternate methods for the communication between the two blocks using PIC 16f778
controller we can reduce the temperature rise in all Si phase shifters, which is 20 30 times lesser
than the conventional MEMS phase shifters. Also by implementing this idea we can reduce the
fabrication cost and we can make a great revolution in the field of embedded systems.
Key terms: Microwave, phase shifters, optic fiber, radio frequency micro electro mechanical
systems.
I. INTRODUCTION
Wireless communication is nowadays widely utilized in many high performance devices and
remote sensing systems, comprising radar sensors

Introduction Clinical trials are research based studies that are performed to determine whether a drug, device, or medical procedure (depending on the stage of the study) is safe and effective. A complete set of trials that would include all phases may cost hundreds of millions of dollars which is usually paid for by a sponsor such as a government agency or a for profit company. Increasingly, clinical trial activities are contracted out to service providers such as an academic medical center (AMC), a contract research organization (CRO), or a physician s practice and this outsourcing requires negotiation and execution of CTAs. It is also important to identify the Investigator who is assigned to conduct the study and whether the Investigator is an employee of the organization. Otherwise, the Investigator may be considered party to the agreement whose personal obligations, as well as liabilities, must be included in the agreement. Narrator s Role in Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby and Kerouac s On The Road Over the last fifty years, since the release of On The Road in 1957, it has not been uncommon for critics to draw parallels between Kerouac s semi autobiographical novel and Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby, released thirty two years previously. It is for certain that both the novels share many similar traits, both examine concepts of American ideals and The American Dream, both are heavily influenced by the jazz age of the time, but nothing binds the novels closer to one another than the authors use of the first person narrative and that narrators relationship with their leading character. Nick is told of Gatsby s shady underworld connections and unhealthy obsession with a youthful love affair, whilst Sal is aware of Dean s unstable background which saw him in and out of young offender units as well as knowing that he is one driven by his lust for both sex and drugs. It is left to A. E. Dyson to explain why Nick allows himself to be won over by such a character, [Nick Caraway s] conscious moral instinct is to disapprove [of Gatsby]: but his imagination is fascinated since perhaps here, in this extraordinary man, the romantic promise is at last fulfilled. With this, Dyson is suggesting that Nick is just far too captivated by Gatsby and the world surrounding him, everything that makes him great , to disapprove of him. Sal s reaction to Dean is much more straight forward. It is revealed that Sal has always had an appetite for adventure and he states that it had always been his intention to travel America but has never experienced the guiding force to make him do it, it is easy to see from this why Sal is so mesmerised to his hero, whose enthusiasm not only drives himself but those around him. Despite the overwhelming number of statistics and indicators, global poverty is as hard to measure as it is to conceptualize. One fact is undeniable: someone is going to have to pay for past debts. It could be the people in debtor countries, or the banks, or the people in advanced industrial countries. Most likely it will be some combination of these three groups. In the last ten years, there have been a variety of proposals which, unfortunately, usually reflect only the special interests of the groups proposing them. Generally speaking, these solutions fall into three categories: repudiation, minor adjustments in repayments, or reduction. A report Relief ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There have been no serious proposals for a widespread and coordinated repudiation of global debt. Repudiation would seriously disrupt global economic relations, probably far beyond the immediate losses of the debts themselves. Retaliations would follow, because it would be politically impossible for lenders not to react, and because there would be a conscious effort to warn other potential defaulters against similar action. The escalation of economic warfare would have the effect of sharply reducing international economic interactions in trade, investment, and exchange. Such an outcome is in no one s interest. There is nothing to guarantee that the countries won t simply get into debt all over again and continue to owe more allegiance to first world elites than to their own people. Repudiation also let s off the hook the World Bank, IMF and commercial lenders who created these injudicious loans in the first place. Another option would be to cancel debt with conditions. Part of the cycle is that as countries get deeper in debt and grow more impoverished as they try to repay, the lenders impose a whole new range of what they say are anti poverty and anti corruption conditions, but which most often have other agendas, such as opening up poor countries to multi national companies. Therefore a proactive proposal that meets several criteria needs to be developed in order for this method to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. A Brief Note On The Federal Aviation Agency Essay dministration (FAA) is a federal agency within the United States Department of Transportation. The Federal Aviation Administration was first named the Federal Aviation Agency . The Federal Aviation Agency was established when the Federal Aviation Act of 1958 was created. With the creation of the Federal Aviation Act of 1958 it then gave more responsibilities to the FAA. These responsibilities included complete control of oversight and regulation for safety within the aviation industry. And the FAA was also responsible for military and civilian aircrafts within American airspace. This was a great idea because it s better to have one agency overseeing both entities to ensure accuracy and safety. Since there is one agency responsible for oversight this will lead to faster problem solving because this agency has the final say and it does not have to rely or get a confirmation from another agency about a particular issue relating to American airspace. Kafka portrays these differences and similarities very effectively through his utilization of elements such as transformation, dehumanization, and dedication to work. Through his works, Kafka communicates with the reader in such a way that almost provokes and challenges one s imagination and creativity. Kafka is known for his highly symbolic and oblique style of writing. It is no surprise that several of his pieces contain the same major themes, just in different settings. The fact that he repeats his styles only makes the message that he is trying to convey much stronger. In both The Metamorphosis and A Hunger Artist , the main... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In A Hunger Artist, the main character s lack of fulfillment causes him despair. He reacts to this disparity by starving himself, almost as if showing resistance to the outside world. He views himself as separate from everyone else, thus confining himself in a cage (Bedford 636). Another evident similarity between the two works is the treatment of the characters. Both Gregor and the hunger artist are treated inhumanely. This is clear in The Metamorphosis when Greta begins to think of Gregor as an it (Metamorphosis 51). Although Gregor has transformed physically, he is still human inside. Everyone around him fails to see that though, and only regard him by what they see, which is a bug. Likewise, the hunger artist is not treated as a human being either. The hunger artist is infatuated with being the best faster in Europe. This obsession deprives him from forming any social or long lasting relationships. His alienation eventually accounts for his demise, along with the fact that he is constantly misunderstood. The people who come to see him, as well as the people who guard him, do not understand that he is not fasting for amusement. One of the techniques Shakespeare uses to illustrate internal conflict is the use of imagery, which allows the audience grasp his intentions through unique representations. The usage of such figurative language inspires an understanding of the plot at a deeper level, as well as to serve specific purposes. One of the most important types of imagery employed in Shakespeare s play Macbethis the motif of clothing, which is used to symbolize power and conceal evil deeds. The use of clothing in the play is crucial in emphasizing the positions of power in Scotland, as well as how that power suits the person who wields it. At the beginning of Act One, when Ross delivers Macbeth the news that Macbeth is now the Thane of Cawdor, Macbeth questions him by asking Why do you dress me / In borrowed robes? (1.3.114 115). • 23. Old Age And The Process Of Aging This paper argues that gerontology, the study of old age and the process of aging, have overlooked gender inequality within policies of patriarchal structures, and within the ideologies of western capitalist society. This is a major source of women s social and economic powerlessness in old age. Ray (1996) explains feminist gerontology as a connection between feminism and gerontology focusing on genderand gender relations. Feminist gerontology deals with populations of both women and men, and through the connection between gender, conclusions in research on women are drawn from building upon research based on men (Calasanti, 2004). Patriarchal structure of western society still maintains the core preference of traditional gender roles, which lead to familiar results in old age. The manifestation of this ideology can be seen in advertisement in media and again repeated within institutions of political and educational domains. Its ability to take several forms produces the root of issues of inequality in old age and difficulty women face compared to men. Gender, within research of gerontology is relatively recent in its consideration in exploring the experience of elderly in western society (Wray, 2003). Therefore, differentiating between genders is done through describing the obstacles that women face in old age compared to men, such as gap in life expectancy, where women tend to live longer than men (Backes et al., 2006). Some cave spiders have no eyes at all and rely only on vibration. There are great differences in the ways which spiders capture prey. Some may stalk their prey, while others may lie in wait and ambush it. Other spiders may weave various types of webs used to capture passing prey, and there are some smaller commensal spiders that live in larger spiders webs and feed on the smaller insects neglected by their host. (The Spider Book, J.Comstock) All spiders spin silk, though not all of them weave webs. Silk is most commonly seen used in forming webs, which may vary from a highly elaborated orb of spiraling threads to a single sticky string. Most webs can be placed into one of four different types: the orb webs, the funnel webs, tangle webs, and the sheet webs. The main purpose of a web is for catching prey. With orb weavers (Araneidae), the spider will first form a supporting structure of frame threads to which it will then add on radial threads. (Biology of Spiders, R.Foelix) These tightly strung threads provide quick access to any where on the web, and also carry any vibrations from the outer perimeter to the center. (The Spider Book, J.Comstock) After the innitial threads are placed, the spider will build on a catching spiral made of sticky silk. • 33. Sentimentalism In Ah Q Early 20th Century Chinese Sentimentalities The True Story of Ah Q, as written in 1921 by Lu Xun, is widely seen as a magnum opus of contemporary Chinese literature. Xun wanted to alter the way of thinking as well as enlighten his fellow Chinese following the 1911 Revolution that overturned the final Chinese dynasty. Xun uses the protagonist of the story, Ah Q, as a representative of Chinaas a whole as he saw the nation to be, giving the reader an insight into social classes and attitudes that permeated Chinese society in the early 20th century. Xun does not paint a great picture of Ah Q and unfortunately, this is his opinion of Chinese society as a whole at the time. This portrayal of Chinese society is harsh and eye opening but to Xun, very accurate and necessary to transform the thinking of Chinese people at that time. During the early half of the 20th century, China was a struggling nation. The country was overwhelmingly controlled by foreign powers and had little to no autonomy. After losing the Opium Wars to Britain and France, coupled with an attack from the Japanese, the Chinese had very little control over China. These losses led to China also losing Control of the all important coastal ports that were very lucrative. The European influence permeated the Chinese country as people felt helpless with their wishes and voices not being heard. Under such circumstances, one could easily fall into a state of mind where they do not care. This is similar to the mindset and characteristics of Ah Q. Ah Q was seen as backwards, aloof, careless, but with an air of arrogance that was delusional. One common trait that comes from people feeling helpless is drug usage. People use drugs and alcohol to help cope with whatever issues they are having; this is no different for Ah Q. In one instance, the protagonist is seen drunk, cavorting around the village, apparently celebrating the fact that one of the elite from the village had passed an examination given by the county. First of all several of it ingredients stimulate rapid fluid absorption. Secondly it assures rapid rehydration which allows us to maintain physiological function and prevents dehydration. Third, the carbohydrates in Gatorade provide energy to working muscles. Finally it encourages you to drink more fluid. All the assertions made by Gatorade make sense but the question still remains about the overall effectiveness of Gatorade and other sports drinks. We will now take a closer look at the four major ways Gatorade is suppose to work and how it is suppose to help our athletic performance and general homeostasis. Rapid Fluid Absorption. Rapid fluid absorption is important during strenuous athletic activity in order to avoid dehydration. According to Gatorade, research has shown that the 6% carbohydrate level and presence of salt found in their beverage is optimal for rapid fluid absorption. They also claim that as the carbohydrate level gets higher than 7% absorption is slowed and therefore fruit juices and some sports drinks aren t recommended during exercise. Assures Rapid Rehydration. In this case consuming a properly formulated ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. The Immigration Crisis Of The United States The immigration crisis Akash Patel Economics 3rd Period One of the biggest crises the United States fracases is illegal immigrant. Even though we know about the problem we don t do anything that is effective. Because of illegal immigrant people born and raised in America are losing jobs. The current immigration crisis in the US is years of mishandling and gone bad. Many of the current immigrants here were originally here. This mentality has led to a huge increase in numbers of illegal immigrants. For example, it is believed that the current number of illegal immigrants is around 10 to 20 million if not more. Another problem is that the Obama administration has dropped the number of cases of deportation. Why isn t Obama dropping the deportation cased. This means tons of money is spent on border security, but the immigrants who make it through are likely to stay here and use up resources such as money, in turn increasing the national deficit more than needs to be done. Another problem is when it comes to family. Pregnant women come to the US and have children. This leads their kids to be legal citizens of the United States. In 2010 about 4 million United States born children had one parent who was here illegally. By now there are probably more than 5 million. Many US citizens either frown upon agricultural work or see it as boring Mexican society, however, provides Mexicans with an agricultural work ethic and many would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Implementing Alternate Technologies Improve The Power... IMPLEMENTING ALTERNATE TECHNOLOGIES TO IMPROVE THE POWER HANDLING CAPACITY OF ALL Si MEMS PHASE SHIFTERS Abstract: This proposal paper analyze and suggest the alternate methods to reduce the heat dissipation and power consumption of MEMS phase shifters while they are being used in the real time environment i.e., in a closed loop operation. So many advancements in the MEMS technology make the MEMS production very effective, but still there are some drawbacks in its structure and in its performance, which pulls the system efficiency to down. Self and mutual inductions are the two major run time defects which affects the performances of the MEMS devices and increases its power consumption when there is a physical data link between two blocks. If the proper steps are taken then, the measurement results can range up to 40dBm at 75 GHz or even more. Hence by using alternate methods for the communication between the two blocks using PIC 16f778 controller we can reduce the temperature rise in all Si phase shifters, which is 20 30 times lesser than the conventional MEMS phase shifters. Also by implementing this idea we can reduce the fabrication cost and we can make a great revolution in the field of embedded systems. Key terms: Microwave, phase shifters, optic fiber, radio frequency micro electro mechanical systems. I.
