Comparing The Raven And Incident In A Rose Garden
Death is something that at some point will come to each of us and has been explored in many forms of
literature. The Raven and Incident in a Rose Garden are two poems that explore common beliefs and
misconceptions about death. Though both poems differ in setting, tone, and mood there are surprising
similarities in the literary tools they use and in the messages they attempt to convey. The setting and
mood establish the tone and feel of a poem. In The Raven we are launched into a bleak and dreary
winters night where a depressed narrator pines for his dead girlfriend. In Incident in a Rose Garden we
are cast into a garden on a bright summers day where the frightened gardener seeks to flee death to be
with his living family. It is hard to come up with two more different settings. Consider the bleak and
dreary winter night versus the walk in the sunny summer flower garden. There are also two
completely different moods, one glum and morose and the other excited and frantic. Symbolism is a
literary tool that is commonly used to convey ideas. Both poems use symbolism throughout their text.

In the garden, Death explains how he became a friend to the father of the estate owner. Most people
fear the uncertainty and unknown things about death. As the poem progresses we can see a change
from fear to understanding that brings about a peace with death. In The Raven there is a scene where
the raven is perched on the bust of Pallas, which represents wisdom. My thought of this is to recall just
what it is that birds do when they are perched on statues. This imagery makes me think that sometimes
we need to disregard conventional wisdom and seek our own understanding. Both poems in their own
ways are urging us to open our minds and to find ways to expand our

Review of Minority Report Essay
Review of Minority Report The film, Minority Report, is a science fiction thriller, based on a short
story written by Phillip. K. Dick.
The year is 2054, and murder has been abolished by what is seen as the perfect system . Murders can
be predicted before they happen, thanks to the work of the Precrime unit. Precrime is a system that

The fact that the city is state of the art and high tech does not help Anderton in his escape. Every step
he takes is monitored, and eyes record movement. In one scene, Anderton gets on board a train, and
looks up to a machine (an eye dent scanner), which scans his eyes and identifies him. This is when he
realises that he will not be safe in his own city. He decides to take drastic action he decides that he will
go and get his eyes changed.
Sight is a main theme for the film. Anderton cannot escape the Precrime unit with his own eyes,
everywhere he goes he will be identified, so he has to somehow get new eyes. He goes to a man who
replaces his eyes with someone else s and Anderton is now slightly safer. He is informed that he
cannot remove the bandages that are covering his new eyes for twenty four hours, which poses a
problem when the flat that he is staying in to recover is invaded by spyders (Small mechanical critters
that work in the same way as the machine on the train.). These creatures are relentless and seek heat.
So, Anderton tries to lower his body temperature by filling a bathtub with water and ice, and he climbs
into it. The spyders eventually find him, and they pull at his bandages, and scan his eyes. He is not
identified as Jon Anderton and so the spyders leave.

My Mother Is Diagnosed With Breast Cancer
Introduction In 2012 my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer, for the following year and a half I
watched my mother undergo multiple surgeries, daily radiation, and a variety of other intensive
treatments. Throughout the entire process I watched my mother physically and mentally deteriorate.
At the time my knowledge of the disease was minimal and not only was I fearful of my mothers
future, but I was also unaware of the physiological functions that would overcome my mothers body
eternally. Following a year and a half of agonizing and aggressive treatments my family received the
news that my mother was officially in complete remission. Throughout my mothers battle with breast

Throughout my four years at Whittier College I have taken a variety of courses which have enabled
me to write this paper in a knowledgeable and purposeful manner. My minor in nutrition as well as my
major in kinesiology has supplied me with a foundation to further research this specific disease as well
as diet. I have taken diet and disease which has provided me with an understanding of how diet
impacts health and how specific chronic diseases have a direct correlation with the science of nutrition
and the lifestyle choices that individuals make. I have also taken numerous nutrition courses which
include upper division courses such as; fundamentals of nutrition, the science of nutrition, and sport
nutrition. All of these courses have enabled me to become an expert in nutrition as it relates to diet as
well as the classification of nutrients, digestion, biochemical processes, and crop sustainability. In
addition to these courses, I have also taken chemistry and exercise physiology, both of which have
permitted me to have a greater understanding to help distinguish the process by which our bodies
consume, digest, metabolize, and store nutrients and how they effect our bodies (Thompson, Manore,
Vaughan, 2014). In this specific paper I have also been able to use my knowledge in sociology of sport

Analysis Of The Secret Lives Of Sgt. John Wilson
Glory and Scandal , or in other words, Mary and John, two characters from the novel The Secret Lives
of Sgt. John Wilson who fall in love but eventually end their relationship on a tragic note. Many
events occurred through out the novel that caught my interest such as; the way they fell madly in love,
the transition into John becoming more of a ghost than a husband, then a more twisted unforeseen plot
that caught most readers entirely by surprise. The love affairs between the characters in the novel, plus
the twists and turns you experience while reading is the main contributor as to why I love this book.
Two polar opposites who started a life together, followed by scandal and deceit, then ended in a most
unspeakable way.
Mary Hutchinson was by far the most glorious and loving person through out the novel, and loved by
all that knew her, We all loved one another but somehow every one of us had a special work with
Polly. She was so bright and cheery and brave (Pg.7). She was a young seamstress who lived a simple
life, making an honest living and was very close to her loving family. She had been pursued by her co
worker the young Jack Wilson, who fall in love with her (or so she thought), but it was normal for
people to be attracted to her beautiful nature. After years of courting they had finally gotten married
and had children of their own, although the second would not be born until the father I say vaguely
had left the country. This once highly sought after woman would now be left to care for two young
children while her husband moved countries to find work (not to mention flee embarrassment). This
was the moment that would change her life for the worst, only she hadn t known it yet.
Jack Wilson, a name that once had meaning, but is now said with resentment, he had every
opportunity to face his issues and make things right like any man should, especially whilst having a
child and another on the way, even the idea of leaving caused some unhappy feedback Did you know
he s thinking of running off to Canada? I d say good riddance if it wasn t for the bairn and the one on
the way. (Pg.10). A lot of men take the high rout in good faith that things will change, but not Jack.

1080 Research Paper
It is known that 1080 is soluble and quickly dissolves in rivers and streams. The fact that 1080 doesn t
spread and isn t cumulative is another reason why it is used instead of the other alternatives mentioned
earlier. If 1080 is placed 50 meters from a river, stream or walking tracks. However in reality, 1080
pellets can be seen placed in all these areas. This brings up the question, what if 1080 is getting into
our water supplies and is causing people worry about the safety of water. The problem is that there is
actually no type of evidence or study done to see how 1080 effects the environment and human health
in the long term when it is dissolved in water has an impact on the plants and animals that surround it.
After investigating the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I believe that knowing if 1080 is 100% safe to use and fully researched and tested about we should
switch to trapping and hunting. I think that the methods of trapping and hunting will be effective and
will do an acceptable job at controlling possums while there is more research into 1080 and other
possible alternatives. It is better than using a poison that is uncontrolled and hurting non targeted
species. During this investigation I found that the people who were against and for the use of 1080 had
a clear bias. The information I gathered for in favour and against came from different organisations
websites. I found that both sides of the argument had good reasons for what stance they were taking. I
also found that for each viewpoint didn t reveal facts that would cause conflict. For example, one
source stated that 1080 breaks up in 3 4 weeks and a different source claimed that it can take several
months for it to break down in the right conditions. The sources that had govt and org in their address
had information that was much more valid compared to the rest. I also found online booklets pdf files
had incredibly valid information that related directly to our export industries and pest problems. I had

Zeus Personality
Zeus was considered to be the leader of the Olympian gods of Mount Olympus. He was the god of the
sky and thunder. He had many powers but the most significant was the power to wield lightning bolts.
He could hurl lightning bolts at people who defied him or other gods who he was displeased with. He
was the youngest child of Cronus and Rhea and was planned to get eaten by Cronus like all of his
brothers and sisters before him, but he was hidden from Cronus at Mount Dicte. He then went on to
overthrow Cronus and control the gods. He had twenty four children and some of them were powerful
gods. He also had some half god children like Hercules. He lives on the top of Mount Olympus with
Hera, his wife.
Zeus most significant and well known power was the ability to hold lightning bolts. He could throw
them like a javelin at people or gods that did not please him or defied him. He had his winged horse
Pegasus carry his lighting bolts and had his eagle pick them up after he threw them. That was not his
only power however, Zeus had the ability to control the weather with his temper. When he was in a

Wildlife Conservation Persuasive Essay
Persuasive speech
Oil drilling and coal mining are killing endangered wildlife, polluting rivers, creating smog over
wilderness areas and blocking wildlife corridors in America s most treasured landscapes. Said
conservation expert Lydia Millet. People are a main part of animal extinction. Endangered species are
critical to our ecosystem. Without them the world would be unstable. Some of these species are slowly
fading away and we need to defend them. The question people are asking is should we do more to
save and defend animals, well I believe that that everyone should take measures to help benefit the
survival of threatened animals. In this passage you will learn why species are endangered, ... Show

Anyway at least some are trying to help by working at wildlife conservation and some states bare
making wildlife corridors. Some people are even taking the time starting foundations to raise money
to save these animals. There are other things that are helping save these animals like laws and polices (
to protect wildlife conservations), habitat restoration, and habitat reservation. The greatness of a nation
can be judged by the way its animals are treated. Said Mahatma Gandhi. This is why everyone should
help.
You may expect that it is necessary to devote your time money and energy into saving endangered
animals, but you are mistaken. There are some simple things you can do to help such as recycling ( I
mean thats not that hard), use less energy, choose sustainable products, clean up your actions, but
more important make your voice heard, get involved, and spread the word it s that easy.
I believe that everyone should take part in saving these animals. After listening to me you know why
species are endangered, what is being done to save them, and how you can help. Endangered species
have a great impact on our lives and we need them to thrive, so remember you can

Carl Rogers And The Humanistic Psychology Movement Essay
The field of psychology has evolved considerably in the last century and Carl Rogers (1902 1987) has
been one of the most influential figures contributing to its growth. Rogers is considered by many to be
the leader of the humanistic psychology movement. He spent the majority of his professional career
demonstrating how supportive, growth producing conditions can unleash healing, responsible self
direction, and creativity in individuals and groups in all walks of life (Kirschenbaum, 2004, p.121).
Today, more than half a century after publishing his theories, Rogers conditions for effective therapy
have continued to serve as a foundation for mental health professionals around the world, regardless
of their theoretical orientations.
Rogers Early Years
Rogers grew up in the Midwest with his parents, four brothers, and sister. His parents were extremely
conservative Protestants. They led family prayers on a daily basis and made every attempt to protect
their children from the corrupt influences in society (Kirschenbaum, 2004). Rogers was a sensitive
child and was easily hurt by his family s teasing; however, expressing feelings was not encouraged in
the Rogers household (Kirschenbaum, 2004). These early experiences Rogers experienced with his
family may be the most influential aspects of his childhood that contributed to the development of his
theories and the importance of understanding the subjective inner experience of the client.

Research Paper On Harvey Milk
Harvey Milk was one of the most important figures in the gay rights movement. In 1977, he became
the first openly gay man to be elected to public office. A year later, he was murdered. Harvey s story is
an epic and tragic tale of strength against hatred, his journey was made into the award winning film
Milk in 2008. The movie was praised for it s historical accuracy and excellent performances by Sean
Penn and James Franco. After studying Harvey Milk s biography and analyzing the film, it is evident
that the director Gus Van Sant put great effort into creating an accurate, but still entertaining, account.

White was shown voting for and qualifying this law. This is not true, historically White voted against

The Religions Of The Middle East
Abrahamic religions, religions that derive from the biblical character Abraham, have three main
religions in the group. The first, and oldest, is Judaism, founded several thousand years ago in the
Middle East; then there is Christianity, the most popular religion in the world, which was founded
shortly after the death of Christ; finally, there is Islam, the second most popular religion in the world,
founded by the prophet Muhammed in the 7th century ACE. Islam has over one billion followers of
the Islamic faith. Although it is one of the most popular religions in the world, many people do not
know much about what Muslims, followers of Islam, believe in. Due to the rising publicity of militant
terrorist groups in the Middle East, Islamophobia has become rampant in many first world countries.
Although the media portrays violent and barbaric acts performed by militant Muslims, a majority of
Muslims do not commit such atrocities and are wrongly persecuted. Only by educating those who do
not know about Islam, can it be assured that Islamophobia will dwindle.
Islam was founded in Saudi Arabia by a prophet named Muhammed. Muhammed is considered to be
the greatest prophet in the Muslim faith, the second greatest prophet in the Muslim faith is considered
to be Jesus Christ himself. The one main, significant difference between Islam and Christianity is that
Muslims do not see Christ as being the Lord, they believe that only Allah, the Arabic name for God, is
the one, true lord.

I have not told half of what I saw Marco Polo. Marco Polo was a world famous traveler and trader.
The introductions of China and Asia, for many, was all thanks to him. Polo is most known for his
travels to China and his book. His book describes the basis of the descriptions of places that were not
really discovered. Polo s childhood was rough and unordinary. Polo was born around 1254 in Venice.
Polo s mother died when Polo was young, leaving him with his father, Niccolo. Niccolo and Polo s
uncle, Maffeo, however, left on a long expedition to Asia. This circumstance left Polo to be raised by
his uncle and aunt. His uncle and aunt taught Polo how to read, write, calculate arithmetic, and to

Parasympathetic And Strengths
1) Describe the effects of the parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous systems on the smooth
muscles of the eye
The smooth muscles of the eye are mainly controlled by the parasympathetic nervous system. The
activation of the parasympathetic system will cause the release of acetylcholine (Ach), which will act
on the m2 muscarinic receptors in the iris smooth muscle fibres. This will cause the pupil to constrict,
reducing the amount of light able to enter the eye. The release of Ach will also act on the m2
muscarinic receptors in the ciliary muscle, causing them to contract, relaxing the shape of the lens in
the eye (Rang and Dale, 2012). Therefore, the overall effect of the release of Ach will constrict the
pupil, reducing the amount of light entering the eye, this is known as miosis (University of Sydney,
2017). This differs from the activation of the sympathetic nervous system which will cause the release
of noradrenaline, which acts on the ⍺1 receptors in the radial smooth muscle fibres of the iris (dilator
pupillae), causing it to contract. The release or noradrenaline will also act on the β2 receptors of the
ciliary muscle causing them to relax, causing the lens to lengthen, however this is only a faint
response(Rang and Dale, 2012). Hence, the contraction of the iris sphincter and slight relaxation of the
ciliary muscles will cause the pupil of the eye to be dilated, increasing the amount of the light able to
enter the eye, this is known as mydriasis (University

The Case Of Boxes, Llc, The Distribution Occurs 4
Transaction 1 Code Section 704(c)(1)(B) covers distributions of contributed property to another
partner. Under this code section, if contributed property is distributed within seven years of the
contribution date, the contributing partner must recognize some or all of the built in gain that was
deferred at the date of contribution. In the case of Boxes, LLC, the distribution occurs 4 years after the
contribution, so Bobby is subject to the recognition provisions. At the date of contribution, the land
has a $350,000 built in gain. Recognition of this gain is deferred and the partnership takes a carryover
basis of $250,000. When the land is distributed, the FMV of the land has increased to $870,000,
increasing the built in gain to $620,000 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the date of contribution, the partnership took a carryover holding period in the land that Bobby
contributed. As a result of the distribution, Larry will also take a carryover holding period of April
14th, 2003. The character of the gain recognized by Bobby is determined by how it was used by the
partnership. Capital gain property is not subject to the five year character provisions under Section
724. Assuming that Boxes held the land as a capital asset rather than inventory, the gain recognized by
Bobby would be capital in nature. Because Larry is not at least a 50% owner of the partnership, his
intentions for the land are irrelevant in this matter.
Transaction 2
In the event of the retirement of a partner with a disproportionate distribution, Code Section 751(b)
provides guidance. In order for Section 751(b) to apply, the partnership must have both Section 751
and non section 751 property. Section 751 assets include unrealized receivables and substantially
appreciated inventory. Because the inventory has not appreciated by 120%, of its adjusted basis, the
only Section 751 property that Boxes of Books has is its receivables. Because Bobby s distribution of
$845,000 exceeds his 35% share of $840,000, he will recognize a guaranteed payment of $5,000 under
Section 736(a). Section 736(a) does not apply to the receivables

Pericles Funeral Oration Summary
Pericles Funeral Oration
Thucydides
431 BC
Secondary
1. The authors main point was to tell of Pericles grand speech he told at the annual funeral in Athens
for all who fell during war. Pericles main point of the speech was to not only tell of those who had
fallen achievements, but also of his personal view of Athens, and how skillful and mighty their
Athenian army was.
2. Thucydides wrote Pericles Funeral oration for his history of the Pelopponesian War. I can infer that
he is a historian who went into depth explaining the Athenians culture to honor their dead, and wrote
his speech. In Pericles speech, he is honoring the fallen Athenian heroes, and praising their form of
government democracy. He tells of how this allows men to act without judgment, and how Athens is
superior then others.
3. The author is not biased, and writes just of Pericles speech. Pericles point of view is that Athens is
superior over every other city. He tells of how they do not have to train their military from a young
age like the Spartans, and how they do not go to war with full strength, but divide their attention
between their navy and other troops, unlike the Spartans who start training at very young age, while
both are just as ready to fight. He also speeks of how their ancestors brought them a free country by

people happy. It also impacts the government because it talks a lot of democracy and how their city is

The Exploitation Of Land Is Justified Essay
The economy today runs on an antiquated ritual of exploiting, plundering, devastation, and
manipulation of land for material wealth, profiting the wealthy and condemning the poor. This
mindset is no more sophisticated than feudalism, a system so bad it had to be outlawed along with
witchcraft. The idea that exploitation of land is justified has brought plastics to the ocean and leveled
rainforests. Large corporations have grown larger by manufacturing and production, depleting the
planet s resources in the process. Now, companies must make a combined effort to put the
environment first, before profit. Because of their harmful practices, consumers have the right to know
where products come from, how they re made, and the impact on the environment. Furthermore, it is
the responsibility of the large corporations to change their harmful practices, to make strides towards
ending climate change and use clean, sustainable methods.
With the combination of polymers that don t biodegrade and mass overproduction, companies are
harming the environment in severe ways. Plastic, a material seen everywhere, is a polymer made from
oil. It is mass produced to make everything from shampoo bottles to automobiles and does not
biodegrade. When it is eventually thrown out, the waste usually finds it way into the ocean, where it is
either buried under sediment or eaten by marine life (Weisman 287 295). Creating a material that will
ultimately kill marine life will undoubtedly wreak havoc on the

The On The Processing Of Swallowing
The processing of swallowing, called deglutition, contains three main stages. The first stage is
voluntary, which is the oral stage in the mouth in which we control. The second stage is the
pharyngeal stage, and that is autonomic; controlled by the autonomic nervous system. Lastly, the third
stage is esophageal stage, which entails the food traveling from the pharynx downward to the stomach
through the esophagus. The esophageal stage is also autonomic.
Deglutition is a complicated process involving multiple structures of the oral cavity, pharynx, and
esophagus. The first stage is initiated when food enters the mouth. The process starts with chewing, or
mastication. The tongue can control movements of the food within the mouth during mastication.
Saliva also moistens the food as the food is being masticated. While the tongue, teeth, and cheeks are
working together, the process of mastication turns the food into bolus, which is a solid collection of
food. The tongue presses the bolus against the hard palate as swallowing occurs, gathering a
backwards movement. The bolus goes through the oral cavity down to the oropharynx. After this
voluntary stage, everything else becomes autonomic.
The sensory nerves located in the oropharynx, sends messages to the medulla oblongata via cranial
nerves (trigeminal and glossopharyngeal nerves). The medulla oblongata comprises the swallowing
center, known as the deglutition center. The bolus of food is processed from the oral cavity to the

Prosthetic Limbs Research Paper
When researching prosthetics, one of the fields I was rather interested in exploring was the technology
that goes into the development and design of prosthetics. The topic is unarguably interesting and
becoming more popular for both research and funding purposes. I was curious to see how the original
practice of prosthetics was developed and when they were first used along with how technological
advances throughout time have correlated with developmental advancements in prosthetics. I was
quite surprised after learning that the idea of prosthetic limbs was actually introduced an extremely
long time ago. In the year 2000, researchers in Cairo,
Egypt, unearthed what they believe to be the oldest documented artificial body part a prosthetic toe
made of wood and leather. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The science has recently started to become more advanced due to funding and research. Further,
owing to the poor healing capacity of the nervous system and an aging population contributing to
more persons becoming disabled by problems such as stroke and Parkinson s disease, the demand for
prosthetic solutions is growing. 2 I read about a meeting that was held that combined 160 different
professionals like scientists, engineers, researchers and many others all with the hope of creating
powerful and adaptive prosthetics. The meetings consisted of making the process of production and
performance more efficient. Materials scientists would kill to be able to produce a material as amazing

The option contract can be a convenient solution for the buyer when the demand is difficult to predict
due to market volatility. This type of contract helps the buyer to reduce the inventory risk and keep
good relations with the suppliers, as they both agree to fix a price and adjust orders quantities after the
demand have been determined, paying a reservation price that will be lost if the buyer decide not to
exercise the option. For the supplier, sometimes can be beneficial, sometimes not, depending on the
uncertainty in the demand and how much it cost for them to fulfill orders in shorter periods of time.
However, as the buyer must pay a reservation price, the supplier will always be compensated by the
additional revenue resultant from the option. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Having into account that Konys has been using stable suppliers for years, they certainly might
consider signing long term contracts, especially for those products that are expensive and hard to
procure like the liquid crystal display (LCD). On the other hand, the option contract could be mutually
beneficial to protect against the risk of price increases and fluctuating demand, giving Konys and its
suppliers more flexibility to interact and accommodate to the market change. However, as predicting
demand is so challenging for short life cycle products, Konys might continue to struggle to meet
suppliers and customers requirements. To decide what strategy is better for them, Konys should work

Eddie Koiki Mabo Case Study
Eddie Koiki Mabo, Torres strait islander from Mer (Murray) island, is notorious for his reputation
with the battle against the Australian High Court. The 1992 high court Mabo decision did establish
genuine changes for Indigenous involving land rights and relationships; however, these changes were
neither substantial nor lasting.
Aboriginals concept of land is different compared to the Europeans view of land being an economic
resource or investment, but to indigenous land is so much more, it is a part of their identity and soul.
But when settlers came they classified the land as terra nullius which is Latin term for land belonging

Muscle And Smooth Muscle
Skeletal muscles are muscles that are attached to the skeleton. They are under voluntary control via
the somatic nervous system. In skeletal muscles once the action potential travels to the T tubule, it
causes Ca2+ channels to open. This triggers the release of Ca2+ from the terminal cisternae of the
sarcoplasmic reticulum. Ca2+ then binds to troponin, this causes tropomyosin to move aside exposing
the actin binding sites. This allow for myosin and actin to bind. Smooth muscle is found in the walls
of blood vessels, airways and the gut. Smooth muscle also does not have striated fibers like cardiac
and skeletal muscle. In smooth muscle once there is enough calcium it will bind to a protein called
calmodulin and then bind to the myosin light

Conquest Of Andalusia Research Paper
The soonest records of settled human progress in Andalusia portray provincial occupation in Pre
Roman times. In the early twelfth century B.C.E. the Phoenician domain framed states along the coast
to help with exchange. The settlement established by the Phoenicians was called Tartessos, which later
rose to turn into a noteworthy political constrain in the district. The settlements of the Phoenicians in
the long run declined in force taking after the disintegration of the Phoenician domain. The following
major political power to develop in the locale was the city of Carthage, whose accentuation on
exchange gave the straits of Gibraltar and the Andalusia district monetary significance. As an
exchanging focus, Carthage saw the monetary estimation of controlling the strait, and started a battle
to pick up control of the area. Between the first and second Carthaginian wars, Carthage developed its
control over Andalusia, utilizing the coast to dispatch a hefty portion of its attacks into Roman
domain. Carthage, on the other hand, was unsuccessful in its crusade against Rome. With the decrease
of Carthage, Andalusia stayed, for a brief period, without an in number political personality. Rome
ventured into fill the force vacuum, renaming the region Betica. ... Show more content on

The Problem Of A Stock Trading System Based On Prediction...
Executive Summary
The dissertation project addresses the problem of trying to build a stock trading system based on
prediction models obtained with daily stock quotes data. We will apply different models to predict the
returns of IBM stocks at the New York Stock Exchange. These predictions will be used together with a
trading rule that will generate buy and sell signals. This chapter addresses several new data mining
issues: (1) how to use R to analyze data stored in a database; (2) how to handle prediction problems
where there is a time ordering among training cases (usually known as a time series); (3) and the
consequences of wanting to translate model predictions into actions.
3.1 Problem description and objectives
Stock market trading is an application domain with a big potential for data mining.
In effect, the existence of an enormous amount of historical data suggests that data mining can provide
a competitive advantage over human inspection of this data. On the other hand there are authors
claiming that the markets adapt so rapidly in terms of price adjustments that there is no space to obtain
profits in a consistent way. This is usually known as the efficient markets hypothesis.
This theory has been successively replaced by more relaxed versions that leave some space for trading
opportunities.
The general goal of stock trading is to maintain a portfolio of stocks based on buy and sell orders. The
long term objective is to achieve as much profit as possible from these

School Structure And Family Influences
Education never really seemed to be priority in my hometown. Fresno, the 5th largest city in
California, is listed as the 8th least literate city in the US. I grew up in a part of town where less than
75% of the residents age 25 and over received a high school diploma; less than 13% earned a Bachelor
s degree; and only 3% have a graduate or professional degree. It s surprising that I even made it to
graduate school after reading statistics like these. My objective is to reflect on my school experience,
and explore how culture, school structure and family influences contributed to my successful
completion of grades K 16, even when the odds were not in my favor.
I came from a working class family of six whose ethnicity was mixed my father, White and my
mother, Hispanic. My siblings and I all went to Slater Elementary School from Kindergarten to 6th
grade. The school was less than a mile from my home, and the community was made up mostly of
working and lower middle class families. The ethnic distribution of my neighborhood was 53.8%
Hispanic, 28.2% White, 9.3% Black, 5.5% Asian, and 2% mixed race. Coming from a mixed race
family had its own challenges. In addition to being a cultural outlier in the community, I was always
confused about who I was ethnically, and was forced to choose which one identified with more (White
or Hispanic) on standardized tests, or when participating with play groups.
My parents were both clerks at the local Post Office. My father was a Vietnam War

Five Aspects Of The Nine Catholic Social Thought Principles
The Nine Catholic Social Thought Principles The way of life can be broken down into nine principles
govern by the Catholic Social Thought (CST), covering all five aspects of humanity. The aspects
include; social, spiritual, personal, economic and political, all five create a holistic approach to
optimize a sense of humanity for self and the community. The nine principles of CST are as follows:
Dignity of the Human person The first and most important principle is dignity of the human person as
it empowers a foundation to the other eight principles. With respects to the catholic perspective God
created mankind in his own image (genesis 1:27) meaning everyone in an idea world should have the
same significances and respectability (Byron, 1998). Regardless of any identifying factors, age,
intelligence or economic status no one should be above or below anyone, society should be in
harmony and dignifying every human. A way to achieve this is by using Immanuel Kant s philosophy
Always treat people as ends in themselves, never as means to an end (Kant, Heath Schneewind, 2001).
Without dignity there isn t much of humanity, as we will be all means , used and maltreated. Common
Good Common good falls into the first of the great commandments, Love thy neighbour as thyself
(Mark 22:38). Breaking down this commandment expresses the golden rule conveyed by Hugh Mckay
in he s book, The Good Life, what makes life worth living (Australian Catholic University, 2017a).
The golden rule allows the community to prosper as it works to support everyone, little pieces of
kindness and charity to build a masterpiece called humankind. With building the masterpiece it lets up
a brighter and greater future for generations to come. Subsidiarity Subsidiarity ensures a fair and just
world, giving a voice to important issues, ideas and threats that the impacted people face in their lives.
By giving subsidiarity to the general public it will allow the first principle of the CST, as it is securing
human rights with specific legislation tailored to that community (Carozza, 2003. Pg.38 40). Having
decision making proximal to the impacted people promotes community flourishment. Subsidiarity can
be compressed into a niche

No other battle of the entire war produced a better count or kill ratio then that claimed by the
Americans at the battle Khe Sanh , (Pisor, 1982). On the Morning of January 21 1968, the Marines of
Khe Sanh Combat Base woke to fighting and bombardment in one of the longest and most intense
battle of the Vietnam War. It was the first of a seventy seven day battle that later is titled as the Tet
Offensive. The People s Army of North Vietnam began a massive artillery strike on their combat

On March 9, 1968, only a few thousand enemy troops remained to staff the rear guard. The official
termination of battle was on April 1. This was the first date since January 21 that no enemy fire
noticed on Khe Sanh. The next mission is to open Route 9 so that supply missions could continue to
support the forces. After reopening the base with no attacks, U.S. forces abandoned Khe Sanh Combat
Base. Two hundred and five Marines died with 1,600 wounded. Verification of casualties of PAVN
reached 10,000 to 15,000 killed in the battle presumably. The battle of Khe Sanh caused many
changes in the artillery world due to losses that including personal loss and equipment loss. The
intense shelling placed a high priority on the construction of improved ammunition and personal
bunkers. These changes added an increase to the minimum level of protection of overhead cover so it

troops but also their equipment and ammunition. This lead to the modern standard of 18 inches of

How Does Australia Become Too Americanised
Is Australia becoming too Americanised? Americanisation is to make or become American in
character. American culture is overriding the culture of our nation and will continue to as American
aspects keep becoming larger within Australia. Over the past years Australia s identity is being merged
with America, as aspects like American foods/ brands, TV/film, trends and slang are becoming
extremely popular and influencing Australian citizens. Through these common American aspects our
Australian culture as what it is stereotyped to be fading dramatically.
American based food industries and American brands are becoming increasingly popular within
Australia. Businesses such as McDonald s are more common within Australia compared to places like
the UK as the amount of McDonald s is significantly less. Although McDonalds is an American
company they include Australian produce such as meats to make it seem Australian. Many typical
Australian food brands are actually owned by other American companies, such as vegemite originally
owned by Kraft but is now currently owned by a US Confectionary company. Due to the change in

programs. This was shown as during the 1960 s, 83% of television programs viewed in Australia were

is cheaper for America to produce films due to the higher demand and higher economy. Australian
films often include American actors as this creates a higher rating and higher demand to see the film.

Amusing Ourselves To Death Neil Postman Analysis
In 1985, when Neil Postman penned, Amusing Ourselves to Death, CNN, and the twenty four hour
news cycle existed in its infancy and televangelism was still unscathed by the Jim Baker and Jimmy
Swaggart scandals. A B movie actor sat in the Oval Office. Conceivably most importantly, television,
the love child of the photograph and the telegraph, had reached maturity to become fully entrenched in
American culture after thirty some years (p. 100). Newscasters, preachers, and politicians had become
celebrities. The information presented on the tube was deficient in meaningful content and lacked
context. Nevertheless, the public s level of amusement rode high. Television s capacity to manipulate
public persona and information on the news, in religion, and in politics creates a vaudeville
atmosphere on these modes of public discourse.
First, when it comes to the news, Postman raises the fact that television is a business that sells its time
in minutes and seconds. While the thirty minute ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

nearly everyone had an opinion, mostly based on the emotion based on watching the news and being
informed . Perhaps this is better described as disinformation, not false or untrue, but fragmented,
irrelevant and misleading. This is the inevitable result of TV news packaging serious discourse as
entertainment, a vaudeville

The Perceptions Of Victory And Defeat In Dominic Tierney s...
In Failing to Win, authors Dominic Johnson and Dominic Tierney analyze perceptions of victory and
defeat within the realm of international politics. These perceptions are examined through
psychological, political, and cultural factors (Johnson and Tierney, pg. 1). The book is divided into
three main sections. The first section focuses on two frameworks that shape perceptions of victory and
defeat, which Johnson and Tierney call score keeping and match fixing. The second section delves
into the conditions that may make people either score keep or match fix. Finally, the third section uses
case studies to further the argument that psychological factors impact perceptions of victory and
defeat. These case studies include: the Cuban Missile Crisis, the Tet Offensive, the Yom Kippur War,
the United States intervention in Somalia, and the American war on terror. ... Show more content on

Score keeping is the hypothesis that people s judgements of victory and defeat simply reflect the
material outcome, meaning that observers use material gains and losses to determine who won and
who lost (Johnson and Tierney, pg. 21 22). While it can be difficult to measure the degree in which
people score keep and it is not the primary way that people decide winners and losers, Johnson and
Tierney argue that it is the best way to judge victory and defeat. The second framework that is used to
explain perceptions of victory and defeat is match fixing. Rather than measuring material gains and
losses like score keeping, match fixing is based on three categories: mind sets, salient events, and
social pressures. Each category produces biases that affect perceptions of victory and defeat (Johnson
and Tierney, pg. 51) For example, expectations whether they are high or low tend to impact the public
s mind set during

of the New York Board of Police Commissioners. Later Roosevelt continued his career as an assistant

Speak softly and carry a big stick, you will go far #. This is how Theodore Roosevelt summed up his
views. Roosevelt wanted to build a canal across the Isthmus of Panama. His attempt to lease the
ground was unsuccessful though so he created a new strategy. Roosevelt wanted to take over Panama.
For only ten million dollars, it happened, on November 3, 1903. The canal gave the United States a
huge commercial and strategic advantage. Though this was a good effect for the United States, there
still was a negative effect. The newly exposed areas needed to be policed. Proper policing of the world
# was called for by Roosevelt. His main concern was that Europe might try to take it if the United
States did not. To stop this proclaimed which came to be known as the Roosevelt Corollary to the
Monroe Doctrine. Chronic wrongdoing, or an importance which results in a general loosening of the
ties of civilized society, the exercise of an international police power # is what the Document said.
This was also used to justify armed intervention in the internal affairs of Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and

her home making skills Saleem narrates Nobody ever took pains the way Amina did. Dark of skin,

her such home making skills, she would fail in positioning herself at her own house, in the Methwold

Analysis Of There Will Come Soft Rains Science Fiction
Science fiction is a genre that has characteristics such as a futuristic setting and a human element. It is
based on controversial areas of science or specific theories that have not yet been proven to be true.
Science fiction works depict what may happen in the future as an effect of what technology and events
exist presently. The genre of the short story There Will Come Soft Rains by Ray Bradbury is
identifiable as science fiction through the setting, character and plot. Firstly, the setting of the short
story is a huge indicator that the genre is science fiction. It takes place August 24, 2026 on a rainy day
in a community where everything is destroyed, except for one house. During the nighttime the ruined
city gave off a radioactive glow which could be seen for miles (Bradbury). The radioactive glow infers
that nuclear war had obliterated everything. Since this hasn t happened yet, but isn t a totally
unbelievable event in the future, it can be classified as science fiction. The one house standing is a
completely different setting. The house was made to take care of itself and all the people who used to
live inside it. For example, after the house prepared breakfast which no one ate, dirty dishes were
dropped into a hot washer and emerged twinkling dry. Nine fifteen, sang the clock, time to clean
(Bradbury). Self sufficient houses don t exist yet, so it must be technology from the future and thus
science fiction. Another aspect of the setting in

God Is The Pure Essence Of Perfect
No one on this Earth is perfect, only our God is the pure essence of perfect. With God s love and
perfection He is able to use us, the imperfect, to carry out His will. We have all sinned and continue to
ask for forgiveness when needed. Although we are not perfect, God still has a plan for our lives and it
is our duty to follow out His will. In the Old Testament there are books of history, which discuss God s
use of some imperfect individuals to accomplish His purpose for Israel. There are twelve books
exactly that deal with the history of the nation of Israel and how God accomplished His goals. These
twelve books are Joshua, Judges, Ruth, 1st and 2nd Samuel, 1st and 2nd Kings, 1st and 2nd
Chronicles, Ezra, Nehemiah, and Esther. These books share a prophetic view of history describing
how the obedience or disobedience of God s people is directly tied to the blessings and curses of the
covenant. The first of these books is Joshua. In this book, the possession of the land by the nation is
the main point. It tells us the story of Israel s arrival at Canaan, otherwise known as the Promise Land,
while under the leadership of Joshua. God appoints Joshua as a leader and that he will never leave him
or forsake him. Joshua stood strong in his faith, his obedience to God, and he was courageous. So
although Joshua was one out of many men that were not apparently flawed, this book is a foundation
for all that was to come. The second book of history was Judges. The Book of Judges is

  • 2. Comparing The Raven And Incident In A Rose Garden Death is something that at some point will come to each of us and has been explored in many forms of literature. The Raven and Incident in a Rose Garden are two poems that explore common beliefs and misconceptions about death. Though both poems differ in setting, tone, and mood there are surprising similarities in the literary tools they use and in the messages they attempt to convey. The setting and mood establish the tone and feel of a poem. In The Raven we are launched into a bleak and dreary winters night where a depressed narrator pines for his dead girlfriend. In Incident in a Rose Garden we are cast into a garden on a bright summers day where the frightened gardener seeks to flee death to be with his living family. It is hard to come up with two more different settings. Consider the bleak and dreary winter night versus the walk in the sunny summer flower garden. There are also two completely different moods, one glum and morose and the other excited and frantic. Symbolism is a literary tool that is commonly used to convey ideas. Both poems use symbolism throughout their text. Incident in a Rose Garden uses a man picking ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the garden, Death explains how he became a friend to the father of the estate owner. Most people fear the uncertainty and unknown things about death. As the poem progresses we can see a change from fear to understanding that brings about a peace with death. In The Raven there is a scene where the raven is perched on the bust of Pallas, which represents wisdom. My thought of this is to recall just what it is that birds do when they are perched on statues. This imagery makes me think that sometimes we need to disregard conventional wisdom and seek our own understanding. Both poems in their own ways are urging us to open our minds and to find ways to expand our ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The fact that the city is state of the art and high tech does not help Anderton in his escape. Every step he takes is monitored, and eyes record movement. In one scene, Anderton gets on board a train, and looks up to a machine (an eye dent scanner), which scans his eyes and identifies him. This is when he realises that he will not be safe in his own city. He decides to take drastic action he decides that he will go and get his eyes changed. Sight is a main theme for the film. Anderton cannot escape the Precrime unit with his own eyes, everywhere he goes he will be identified, so he has to somehow get new eyes. He goes to a man who replaces his eyes with someone else s and Anderton is now slightly safer. He is informed that he cannot remove the bandages that are covering his new eyes for twenty four hours, which poses a problem when the flat that he is staying in to recover is invaded by spyders (Small mechanical critters that work in the same way as the machine on the train.). These creatures are relentless and seek heat. So, Anderton tries to lower his body temperature by filling a bathtub with water and ice, and he climbs into it. The spyders eventually find him, and they pull at his bandages, and scan his eyes. He is not identified as Jon Anderton and so the spyders leave. Anderton ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. My Mother Is Diagnosed With Breast Cancer Introduction In 2012 my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer, for the following year and a half I watched my mother undergo multiple surgeries, daily radiation, and a variety of other intensive treatments. Throughout the entire process I watched my mother physically and mentally deteriorate. At the time my knowledge of the disease was minimal and not only was I fearful of my mothers future, but I was also unaware of the physiological functions that would overcome my mothers body eternally. Following a year and a half of agonizing and aggressive treatments my family received the news that my mother was officially in complete remission. Throughout my mothers battle with breast cancer my family and I met countless individuals who were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Throughout my four years at Whittier College I have taken a variety of courses which have enabled me to write this paper in a knowledgeable and purposeful manner. My minor in nutrition as well as my major in kinesiology has supplied me with a foundation to further research this specific disease as well as diet. I have taken diet and disease which has provided me with an understanding of how diet impacts health and how specific chronic diseases have a direct correlation with the science of nutrition and the lifestyle choices that individuals make. I have also taken numerous nutrition courses which include upper division courses such as; fundamentals of nutrition, the science of nutrition, and sport nutrition. All of these courses have enabled me to become an expert in nutrition as it relates to diet as well as the classification of nutrients, digestion, biochemical processes, and crop sustainability. In addition to these courses, I have also taken chemistry and exercise physiology, both of which have permitted me to have a greater understanding to help distinguish the process by which our bodies consume, digest, metabolize, and store nutrients and how they effect our bodies (Thompson, Manore, Vaughan, 2014). In this specific paper I have also been able to use my knowledge in sociology of sport as well as the history and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Analysis Of The Secret Lives Of Sgt. John Wilson Glory and Scandal , or in other words, Mary and John, two characters from the novel The Secret Lives of Sgt. John Wilson who fall in love but eventually end their relationship on a tragic note. Many events occurred through out the novel that caught my interest such as; the way they fell madly in love, the transition into John becoming more of a ghost than a husband, then a more twisted unforeseen plot that caught most readers entirely by surprise. The love affairs between the characters in the novel, plus the twists and turns you experience while reading is the main contributor as to why I love this book. Two polar opposites who started a life together, followed by scandal and deceit, then ended in a most unspeakable way. Mary Hutchinson was by far the most glorious and loving person through out the novel, and loved by all that knew her, We all loved one another but somehow every one of us had a special work with Polly. She was so bright and cheery and brave (Pg.7). She was a young seamstress who lived a simple life, making an honest living and was very close to her loving family. She had been pursued by her co worker the young Jack Wilson, who fall in love with her (or so she thought), but it was normal for people to be attracted to her beautiful nature. After years of courting they had finally gotten married and had children of their own, although the second would not be born until the father I say vaguely had left the country. This once highly sought after woman would now be left to care for two young children while her husband moved countries to find work (not to mention flee embarrassment). This was the moment that would change her life for the worst, only she hadn t known it yet. Jack Wilson, a name that once had meaning, but is now said with resentment, he had every opportunity to face his issues and make things right like any man should, especially whilst having a child and another on the way, even the idea of leaving caused some unhappy feedback Did you know he s thinking of running off to Canada? I d say good riddance if it wasn t for the bairn and the one on the way. (Pg.10). A lot of men take the high rout in good faith that things will change, but not Jack. Jack Wilson; like a dog with ... • 6. 1080 Research Paper It is known that 1080 is soluble and quickly dissolves in rivers and streams. The fact that 1080 doesn t spread and isn t cumulative is another reason why it is used instead of the other alternatives mentioned earlier. If 1080 is placed 50 meters from a river, stream or walking tracks. However in reality, 1080 pellets can be seen placed in all these areas. This brings up the question, what if 1080 is getting into our water supplies and is causing people worry about the safety of water. The problem is that there is actually no type of evidence or study done to see how 1080 effects the environment and human health in the long term when it is dissolved in water has an impact on the plants and animals that surround it. After investigating the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I believe that knowing if 1080 is 100% safe to use and fully researched and tested about we should switch to trapping and hunting. I think that the methods of trapping and hunting will be effective and will do an acceptable job at controlling possums while there is more research into 1080 and other possible alternatives. It is better than using a poison that is uncontrolled and hurting non targeted species. During this investigation I found that the people who were against and for the use of 1080 had a clear bias. The information I gathered for in favour and against came from different organisations websites. I found that both sides of the argument had good reasons for what stance they were taking. I also found that for each viewpoint didn t reveal facts that would cause conflict. For example, one source stated that 1080 breaks up in 3 4 weeks and a different source claimed that it can take several months for it to break down in the right conditions. The sources that had govt and org in their address had information that was much more valid compared to the rest. I also found online booklets pdf files had incredibly valid information that related directly to our export industries and pest problems. He had many powers but the most significant was the power to wield lightning bolts. He could hurl lightning bolts at people who defied him or other gods who he was displeased with. He was the youngest child of Cronus and Rhea and was planned to get eaten by Cronus like all of his brothers and sisters before him, but he was hidden from Cronus at Mount Dicte. He then went on to overthrow Cronus and control the gods. He had twenty four children and some of them were powerful gods. He also had some half god children like Hercules. Wildlife Conservation Persuasive Essay Persuasive speech Oil drilling and coal mining are killing endangered wildlife, polluting rivers, creating smog over wilderness areas and blocking wildlife corridors in America s most treasured landscapes. Said conservation expert Lydia Millet. People are a main part of animal extinction. Endangered species are critical to our ecosystem. Without them the world would be unstable. Some of these species are slowly fading away and we need to defend them. Some people are even taking the time starting foundations to raise money to save these animals. There are other things that are helping save these animals like laws and polices ( to protect wildlife conservations), habitat restoration, and habitat reservation. The greatness of a nation can be judged by the way its animals are treated. Said Mahatma Gandhi. This is why everyone should help. • 9. Carl Rogers And The Humanistic Psychology Movement Essay The field of psychology has evolved considerably in the last century and Carl Rogers (1902 1987) has been one of the most influential figures contributing to its growth. Rogers is considered by many to be the leader of the humanistic psychology movement. He spent the majority of his professional career demonstrating how supportive, growth producing conditions can unleash healing, responsible self direction, and creativity in individuals and groups in all walks of life (Kirschenbaum, 2004, p.121). Today, more than half a century after publishing his theories, Rogers conditions for effective therapy have continued to serve as a foundation for mental health professionals around the world, regardless of their theoretical orientations. Rogers Early Years Rogers grew up in the Midwest with his parents, four brothers, and sister. His parents were extremely conservative Protestants. They led family prayers on a daily basis and made every attempt to protect their children from the corrupt influences in society (Kirschenbaum, 2004). Rogers was a sensitive child and was easily hurt by his family s teasing; however, expressing feelings was not encouraged in the Rogers household (Kirschenbaum, 2004). These early experiences Rogers experienced with his family may be the most influential aspects of his childhood that contributed to the development of his theories and the importance of understanding the subjective inner experience of the client. A year later, he was murdered. Harvey s story is an epic and tragic tale of strength against hatred, his journey was made into the award winning film Milk in 2008. The movie was praised for it s historical accuracy and excellent performances by Sean Penn and James Franco. After studying Harvey Milk s biography and analyzing the film, it is evident that the director Gus Van Sant put great effort into creating an accurate, but still entertaining, account. This is not true, historically White voted against Proposition 6 and also supported gay rights. In fact, his own supervisor, Ray Sloan, was gay. Sloan was not featured or mentioned in the film, but stated that his homophobia was not an issue for his and Dan s professional relationship. • 11. The Religions Of The Middle East Abrahamic religions, religions that derive from the biblical character Abraham, have three main religions in the group. The first, and oldest, is Judaism, founded several thousand years ago in the Middle East; then there is Christianity, the most popular religion in the world, which was founded shortly after the death of Christ; finally, there is Islam, the second most popular religion in the world, founded by the prophet Muhammed in the 7th century ACE. Islam has over one billion followers of the Islamic faith. Although it is one of the most popular religions in the world, many people do not know much about what Muslims, followers of Islam, believe in. Due to the rising publicity of militant terrorist groups in the Middle East, Islamophobia has become rampant in many first world countries. Although the media portrays violent and barbaric acts performed by militant Muslims, a majority of Muslims do not commit such atrocities and are wrongly persecuted. Only by educating those who do not know about Islam, can it be assured that Islamophobia will dwindle. Islam was founded in Saudi Arabia by a prophet named Muhammed. Muhammed is considered to be the greatest prophet in the Muslim faith, the second greatest prophet in the Muslim faith is considered to be Jesus Christ himself. The one main, significant difference between Islam and Christianity is that Muslims do not see Christ as being the Lord, they believe that only Allah, the Arabic name for God, is the one, true lord. ... • 14. Parasympathetic And Strengths 1) Describe the effects of the parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous systems on the smooth muscles of the eye The smooth muscles of the eye are mainly controlled by the parasympathetic nervous system. The activation of the parasympathetic system will cause the release of acetylcholine (Ach), which will act on the m2 muscarinic receptors in the iris smooth muscle fibres. This will cause the pupil to constrict, reducing the amount of light able to enter the eye. The release of Ach will also act on the m2 muscarinic receptors in the ciliary muscle, causing them to contract, relaxing the shape of the lens in the eye (Rang and Dale, 2012). Therefore, the overall effect of the release of Ach will constrict the pupil, reducing the amount of light entering the eye, this is known as miosis (University of Sydney, 2017). This differs from the activation of the sympathetic nervous system which will cause the release of noradrenaline, which acts on the ⍺1 receptors in the radial smooth muscle fibres of the iris (dilator pupillae), causing it to contract. The release or noradrenaline will also act on the β2 receptors of the ciliary muscle causing them to relax, causing the lens to lengthen, however this is only a faint response(Rang and Dale, 2012). Hence, the contraction of the iris sphincter and slight relaxation of the ciliary muscles will cause the pupil of the eye to be dilated, increasing the amount of the light able to enter the eye, this is known as mydriasis (University ... • 15. The Case Of Boxes, Llc, The Distribution Occurs 4 Transaction 1 Code Section 704(c)(1)(B) covers distributions of contributed property to another partner. Under this code section, if contributed property is distributed within seven years of the contribution date, the contributing partner must recognize some or all of the built in gain that was deferred at the date of contribution. In the case of Boxes, LLC, the distribution occurs 4 years after the contribution, so Bobby is subject to the recognition provisions. At the date of contribution, the land has a $350,000 built in gain. Recognition of this gain is deferred and the partnership takes a carryover basis of $250,000. When the land is distributed, the FMV of the land has increased to $870,000, increasing the built in gain to $620,000 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the date of contribution, the partnership took a carryover holding period in the land that Bobby contributed. As a result of the distribution, Larry will also take a carryover holding period of April 14th, 2003. The character of the gain recognized by Bobby is determined by how it was used by the partnership. Capital gain property is not subject to the five year character provisions under Section 724. Assuming that Boxes held the land as a capital asset rather than inventory, the gain recognized by Bobby would be capital in nature. Because Larry is not at least a 50% owner of the partnership, his intentions for the land are irrelevant in this matter. Transaction 2 In the event of the retirement of a partner with a disproportionate distribution, Code Section 751(b) provides guidance. In order for Section 751(b) to apply, the partnership must have both Section 751 and non section 751 property. Section 751 assets include unrealized receivables and substantially appreciated inventory. Because the inventory has not appreciated by 120%, of its adjusted basis, the only Section 751 property that Boxes of Books has is its receivables. Because Bobby s distribution of $845,000 exceeds his 35% share of $840,000, he will recognize a guaranteed payment of $5,000 under Section 736(a). Section 736(a) does not apply to the receivables ... • 16. Pericles Funeral Oration Summary Pericles Funeral Oration Thucydides 431 BC Secondary 1. The authors main point was to tell of Pericles grand speech he told at the annual funeral in Athens for all who fell during war. Pericles main point of the speech was to not only tell of those who had fallen achievements, but also of his personal view of Athens, and how skillful and mighty their Athenian army was. 2. Thucydides wrote Pericles Funeral oration for his history of the Pelopponesian War. I can infer that he is a historian who went into depth explaining the Athenians culture to honor their dead, and wrote his speech. In Pericles speech, he is honoring the fallen Athenian heroes, and praising their form of government democracy. He tells of how this allows men to act without judgment, and how Athens is superior then others. 3. The author is not biased, and writes just of Pericles speech. Pericles point of view is that Athens is superior over every other city. He tells of how they do not have to train their military from a young age like the Spartans, and how they do not go to war with full strength, but divide their attention between their navy and other troops, unlike the Spartans who start training at very young age, while both are just as ready to fight. • 17. The Exploitation Of Land Is Justified Essay The economy today runs on an antiquated ritual of exploiting, plundering, devastation, and manipulation of land for material wealth, profiting the wealthy and condemning the poor. This mindset is no more sophisticated than feudalism, a system so bad it had to be outlawed along with witchcraft. The idea that exploitation of land is justified has brought plastics to the ocean and leveled rainforests. Large corporations have grown larger by manufacturing and production, depleting the planet s resources in the process. Now, companies must make a combined effort to put the environment first, before profit. Because of their harmful practices, consumers have the right to know where products come from, how they re made, and the impact on the environment. Furthermore, it is the responsibility of the large corporations to change their harmful practices, to make strides towards ending climate change and use clean, sustainable methods. With the combination of polymers that don t biodegrade and mass overproduction, companies are harming the environment in severe ways. Plastic, a material seen everywhere, is a polymer made from oil. It is mass produced to make everything from shampoo bottles to automobiles and does not biodegrade. When it is eventually thrown out, the waste usually finds it way into the ocean, where it is either buried under sediment or eaten by marine life (Weisman 287 295). • 18. The On The Processing Of Swallowing The processing of swallowing, called deglutition, contains three main stages. The first stage is voluntary, which is the oral stage in the mouth in which we control. The second stage is the pharyngeal stage, and that is autonomic; controlled by the autonomic nervous system. Lastly, the third stage is esophageal stage, which entails the food traveling from the pharynx downward to the stomach through the esophagus. The esophageal stage is also autonomic. Deglutition is a complicated process involving multiple structures of the oral cavity, pharynx, and esophagus. The first stage is initiated when food enters the mouth. The process starts with chewing, or mastication. The tongue can control movements of the food within the mouth during mastication. Saliva also moistens the food as the food is being masticated. While the tongue, teeth, and cheeks are working together, the process of mastication turns the food into bolus, which is a solid collection of food. The tongue presses the bolus against the hard palate as swallowing occurs, gathering a backwards movement. The bolus goes through the oral cavity down to the oropharynx. After this voluntary stage, everything else becomes autonomic. The sensory nerves located in the oropharynx, sends messages to the medulla oblongata via cranial nerves (trigeminal and glossopharyngeal nerves). The medulla oblongata comprises the swallowing center, known as the deglutition center. The bolus of food is processed from the oral cavity to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In skeletal muscles once the action potential travels to the T tubule, it causes Ca2+ channels to open. This triggers the release of Ca2+ from the terminal cisternae of the sarcoplasmic reticulum. Ca2+ then binds to troponin, this causes tropomyosin to move aside exposing the actin binding sites. This allow for myosin and actin to bind. In the early twelfth century B.C.E. the Phoenician domain framed states along the coast to help with exchange. The settlements of the Phoenicians in the long run declined in force taking after the disintegration of the Phoenician domain. Executive Summary The dissertation project addresses the problem of trying to build a stock trading system based on prediction models obtained with daily stock quotes data. We will apply different models to predict the returns of IBM stocks at the New York Stock Exchange. These predictions will be used together with a trading rule that will generate buy and sell signals. This chapter addresses several new data mining issues: (1) how to use R to analyze data stored in a database; (2) how to handle prediction problems where there is a time ordering among training cases (usually known as a time series); (3) and the consequences of wanting to translate model predictions into actions. 3.1 Problem description and objectives Stock market trading is an application domain with a big potential for data mining. In effect, the existence of an enormous amount of historical data suggests that data mining can provide a competitive advantage over human inspection of this data. On the other hand there are authors claiming that the markets adapt so rapidly in terms of price adjustments that there is no space to obtain profits in a consistent way. This is usually known as the efficient markets hypothesis. This theory has been successively replaced by more relaxed versions that leave some space for trading opportunities. The general goal of stock trading is to maintain a portfolio of stocks based on buy and sell orders. The long term objective is to achieve as much profit as possible from these ... • 26. Five Aspects Of The Nine Catholic Social Thought Principles The Nine Catholic Social Thought Principles The way of life can be broken down into nine principles govern by the Catholic Social Thought (CST), covering all five aspects of humanity. The aspects include; social, spiritual, personal, economic and political, all five create a holistic approach to optimize a sense of humanity for self and the community. The nine principles of CST are as follows: Dignity of the Human person The first and most important principle is dignity of the human person as it empowers a foundation to the other eight principles. With respects to the catholic perspective God created mankind in his own image (genesis 1:27) meaning everyone in an idea world should have the same significances and respectability (Byron, 1998). Regardless of any identifying factors, age, intelligence or economic status no one should be above or below anyone, society should be in harmony and dignifying every human. A way to achieve this is by using Immanuel Kant s philosophy Always treat people as ends in themselves, never as means to an end (Kant, Heath Schneewind, 2001). Without dignity there isn t much of humanity, as we will be all means , used and maltreated. Common Good Common good falls into the first of the great commandments, Love thy neighbour as thyself (Mark 22:38). Breaking down this commandment expresses the golden rule conveyed by Hugh Mckay in he s book, The Good Life, what makes life worth living (Australian Catholic University, 2017a). The golden rule allows the community to prosper as it works to support everyone, little pieces of kindness and charity to build a masterpiece called humankind. With building the masterpiece it lets up a brighter and greater future for generations to come. Subsidiarity Subsidiarity ensures a fair and just world, giving a voice to important issues, ideas and threats that the impacted people face in their lives. By giving subsidiarity to the general public it will allow the first principle of the CST, as it is securing human rights with specific legislation tailored to that community (Carozza, 2003. Pg.38 40). Having decision making proximal to the impacted people promotes community flourishment. Subsidiarity can be compressed into a niche ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A B movie actor sat in the Oval Office. In Failing to Win, authors Dominic Johnson and Dominic Tierney analyze perceptions of victory and defeat within the realm of international politics. These perceptions are examined through psychological, political, and cultural factors (Johnson and Tierney, pg. 1). The book is divided into three main sections. The first section focuses on two frameworks that shape perceptions of victory and defeat, which Johnson and Tierney call score keeping and match fixing. The second section delves into the conditions that may make people either score keep or match fix. Rather than measuring material gains and losses like score keeping, match fixing is based on three categories: mind sets, salient events, and social pressures.
