Grendel Vs Beowulf Research Paper
Beowulf and Grendel, the main characters of their self titled books, are two very different, yet
very similar characters. Beowulf, whose real author is unknown, is said to be one of the oldest
pieces of English literature ever and is translated from Old English by Seamus Heaney, tells the
tale of a valiant member of the Geat people who travels across the sea to help the Danes and King
Hrothgar battle Grendel, a vicious monstrosity who is ravaging the local area. Grendel is written
by John Gardner and tells the same tale of Beowulfs courageous attempt, while presenting the
story from Grendel s point of view, a new spin on the age old story. Point of view plays a huge
role in these stories, with Beowulf being read by a omniscient narrator whose god like abilities
seems to allow them to bounce around from the past, present, and future. Grendel, on the other
hand, is completely in first person and rarely ventures away from that point of view, only when
Grendel seems to have the ability to read people s actions and minds without... Show more content

Nor have I seen a mightier man at arms on this earth than the one standing here: unless I am
mistaken, he is truly noble. This is no mere hanger on in a hero s armour, (19 Heaney). This
scene shows just how majestic and heroic Beowulf is and the point of view allows us to see
what everyone is thinking in every situation, giving us a god like view of the story. This constant
input from all pieces of the story aids the reader in seeing Beowulf as a true hero, primarily
because of this abrupt assumption by the Danish coast guard. Beowulf s grandiose image reinforces
the notion of what a hero looks and acts like and without the omniscient point of view it wouldn t

Remittance Flow Of Bangladesh And Bangladesh
Abstract In Bangladesh, remittance is one of the most important economic variables in recent times
as it helps in balancing balance of payments, increasing foreign exchange reserves, enhancing
national savings and increasing velocity of money. Moreover, it is greater than foreign aid and thus
helps in lessening dependence on foreign aid. Remittance gets momentum in recent time in
Bangladesh and is the second largest sector of foreign exchange earnings after the garments sector.
If cost of imported raw materials is deducted from the foreign exchange earning of the garments
sector, remittance becomes the single largest sector of foreign exchange earnings. Remittance
earning is increasing day by day but at a lower rate than the increase in emigration from
Bangladesh due to the increasing share of unskilled or semi skilled labors than the professionals in
international migration. The share of remittance in GNI (Gross National Income) is increasing day
by day. It affects almost all the macro economic indicators of a country positively. Though there are
also negative sides of remittance earning e.g. brain drain, its overall contribution to Bangladesh
economy is very much effective. Appropriate and timely government policies and initiatives can
boost up the amount of remittance and can rectify the problems related to it. Remittance has
created a new dimension in the economic development of Bangladesh. We have to properly unlock
the potentialities of remittances and utilize it

Puberty Rites Of Passage
In many cultures around the world, ceremonies are held or rituals are undergone to mark the
passage of adolescents into adulthood. These are known as rites of passage. Rites of passage, is a
term first coined by Arnold Van Gennep in 1909 to describe the universal transition of adolescents
by maturational progression, a phenomenon that is cross cultural (Gibson, 2007). Indeed, the term
puberty rites and rite of passagecan be used interchangeably. Because puberty is an experience all
humans have, the rite of passage may reflect cultural evolution as co occurring with bodily
changes (Weisfeld ,1997, as cited by Gibson, 2007). Rites of passage can also signify changes of
status in other stages of life, and these transitions seem to be demarcated... Show more content on

It is theorized that the adolescent rite of passage has lost its importance because of a change in
focus from communal concerns to individuality, or exposure to varied belief systems (Gibson,
2007). Some youth, who lack the completion of these semblances of rites, create their own
through activities such as the use of substances, body modification, or gang initiation (Sande,
2002; Vigil, 1996; Wall, n.d., as cited by Gibson, 2007). A possible reason for the fading of formal
rites, is a societal move away from the importance of sexual maturity for reproduction reasons to a
society that instead imbues status for financial and vocational gains (Gibson,

Clostridium Perfringens
Name: Mirna Gordillo
Causative Agent #1: Clostridium perfringens
Disease #1: food poisoning/ Gastroenteritis
Classification of the causative agent:
C.perfringens is a large obligate anaerobic, gram positive, endospore forming, and motile rod
shaped.
History:
Clostridium is one of the most common food poisoning in the USA. Also it used the less time for
regeneration or multiplication of endospores.
Virulence factors of the causative agent:
Strains of C.perfringens form enterotoxins that induce infection in the host cell.
Mode of transmission

Virulence factors of the causative agent:
C. perfringens can growth in the death cells providing nutrients for sporulation. Because
C.perfringens is anaerobe it ferment carbohydrates in the dead cells and produce carbon dioxide
and hydrogen. This is an exotoxin bacteria and can intoxicate muscle tissue until invade the

How Did Religion Influence Ancient Greek Civilization
Religion in Ancient Greece took a major role in the development of its civilization. It played a
major role in the daily life of each of its citizens, as religion also heavily influenced the governing
system they had implemented at the time. The extent of their influence can still be witnessed in the
present day, as Athens, the capital of Greece, is named after the Goddess Athena. Ancient Greek
religionwas not composed of one god, but instead was composed on a number of different Gods
and Goddesses. Each God and Goddess had a different attribute attached to it. These attributes can
range from the act of love via the Goddess Aphrodite, to the act of Just War, via Athena. The
Ancient Greek Religion is surrounded by the collection of beliefs and rituals practiced in the form of

very famous god that was heavily known and worshipped was Zeus. Zeus was the king of Gods.
He was believed to control the weather. Some people saw him as the cloud gatherer and the
thunderer . Thunderbolt was known to be Zeus greatest weapon. When the thunder in the skies
was present, it was proof of Zeus presence. Hera was the wife of the famous Zeus and was the
Queen of the Gods. She was specifically the Goddess of weddings and marriage. Because of the
affairs of her husband this resulted her to take terrible revenge on the girlfriends of Zeus. Lastly,
Ares was known to be the God of War however he was not very cunning in battle. Ares wasn t

Themes And Reflection Of The Allegory Of Young Goodman Brown
1)What is the tone of this passage? Which words convey this tone? Despite the sporadic shift in of
tone with words such as brightening and sunshine, the overall passage is very somber and serious.
The authors use of dark, sorrow, lamentations, and black mass, to describe the situation presented
the events as deceitful and wicked.
2)Where does the author use imagery? The author uses imagery in the passage more than once. For
example, the lines black mass of cloud and hid the brightening stars, suggest that the cloud deprives
the forest of it s of light. The imagery suggests that the forest is now dark and therefore gives the
reader an ominous feeling about the events to come.
3)What is the theme of this passage? The theme of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Strictly speaking, this means that Nathaniel Hawthorne wrote this short story to reveal that people
are not permanently good or permanently evil.
Symbolism: The forest in the story symbolizes evil and corruption because according to Puritan
beliefs, the forest is the home of the devil. This is important to the story because Goodman Brown
does encounter evil inside of the forest instead of in the village.
Situational Irony: Situational irony is seen when Goodman Brown hides in the forest to avoid
being seen by Goody Cloyse. Goody Cloyse, his catechism teacher, is known as holy among the
villagers. The reader expects Goody Cloyse to be surprised and afraid upon encountering the old
man, but the opposite happened she walked with him. This is situational irony because the reader
expected Cloyse to avoid evil rather than joining into communion with it.
Dramatic Irony: In the short story Young Goodman Brown, Nathaniel Hawthorne used dramatic
irony to foreshadow dark events that would occur later that night through Faith s dreams. The
reader can assume that Faith s nightmares anticipate Goodman Brown s unholy actions in the

Compare The Reaction Between Tert-Butyl Chloride And Alkyl...
The data reveals that reactions occurred in all four test tubes. This means that all four test tubes
turned out to be positive reactions. The data collected regarding the reactions did not meet the
expectation. The expectation was that two out of the four tubes would yield a reaction. To be
specific, the expectation was that only one of the first two tubes would have a reaction, and only
one of the second two tubes (tubes 3 4) would have a reaction. This was the expectation because
the goal of the reactions was to verify the structure of the alkyl halides. The structure of the tert
butyl chloride and chlorobutane were in question. If they reacted with NaI, it could be concluded
that they were primary alkyl halides. If they reacted with AgNO3, it could be concluded that they
were tertiary alkyl halides.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
AgNO3 easily undergoes reactions with tertiary alkyl halides (SN1). The four tubes should not all
have undergone reactions because that would give an unclear indication whether or not the alkyl
halides were primary or tertiary. Two tubes were supposed to undergo reaction and two should not
have. It is likely that the error that made the extra two test tubes react was contamination. If the
test tubes contained traces of both solvents, it would be possible that the alkyl halides would react
in all the test tubes. This is because the alkyl halide would react with its preferred solvent, even if
the solvent is present in small quantities. This contamination could have been due to using the same
pipette to transfer the solvents. It also could have been possible that the test tubes used were not
properly cleaned and still contained traces of

The Higgs boson Theorised by physicists Francois Elgert...
The Higgs boson or God Particle was theorised 50 years ago by two physicists Francois Elgert
and Peter Higgs. They were awarded with a Nobel Prize for confirming its existence on July 4th,
2012. It is possible further research will lead to major discoveries in the future of physics . The
Higgs boson is known as the key to understanding why mass exists and how it was originally
constructed. It should be further examined and studied.
The Higgs boson and Higgs field have been explained many different ways in order to provide a
better understanding. The more interaction something has with the field, the more mass it will
have and the simplest way of explaining this is through a metaphor. For example, consider a body
of water. The water will drag on things that move through it, but it will not affect all things in the
same way. A jetski, for instance, would meet little resistance as it moves forward which resembles
the way electrons cooperate with the Higgs field. There is very little interaction and therefore less
mass. A swimmer on the other hand will meet much more resistance while emerged in water. This
resembles the way that W and Z bosons drag through the Higgs field. They have thousands of times
more mass than electrons, protons, and neutrons. Photons do not interact with the scalar field and
therefore have no mass. In this metaphor planes flying over bodies of water represent the photons.
The body of water represents the Higgs field and the water droplets that make up

The Relationship Between Occident And Orient
To begin, may be a bit abruptly, I would like to quote from Edward Said s Orientalism :: The
relationship between Occident and Orient is a relationship of power , of domination , of varying
degrees of a complex hegemony... And he mentions Flaubert s impression of an Egyptian
courtesan ..that she was ever silent and never represented her emotions, presence, or history.
Flaubert as the male, superior, occidental has all the right to present her as typically Oriental she
is denied her own voice . My idea is that GENDERformed one of the pillars on which EMPIRE was
constructed and the binaries namely male/superior and female/inferior contributed to the structure of
Imperialism. It is again an empire/colonizer and nation/colonized binary system.

The Discipline Of Military History
Military history is a humanities discipline within the scope of general historical recording of armed
conflict in the history of humanity, and its impact on the societies, their cultures, economies and
changing intra and international relationships.
Professional historians normally focus on military affairs that had a major impact on the societies
involved as well as the aftermath of conflicts, while amateur historians and hobbyists often take a
larger interest in the details of battles, equipment and uniforms in use. The essential subjects of
military history study are the causes of war, the social and cultural foundations, military doctrine on
each side, the logistics, leadership, technology, strategy, and tactics used, and how these changed...

When certifying military history instructors the Combat Studies Institute deemphasizes rote detail
memorization and focuses on themes and context in relation to current and future conflict, using the
motto Past is Prologue.
The discipline of military history is dynamic, changing with development as much of the subject
area as the societies and organisations that make use of it. The dynamic nature of the discipline of
military history is largely related to the rapidity of change the military forces, and the art and
science of managing them, as well as the frenetic pace of technological development that had taken
place during the period known as the Industrial Revolution, and more recently in the nuclear and
information ages.
An important recent concept is the Revolution in Military Affairs which attempts to explain how
warfare has been shaped by emerging technologies, such as gunpowder. It highlights the short

component in the investigation of social mechanisms that promote academic achievement and
psychological well being for at risk youth. A general sense of belonging includes an individual s
sense of acceptance and of being valued, included, and encouraged by others in a community. This
can vary in different settings. School belonging was assessed by a combination of several factors
including teacher support, involvement in school based activities, and peer support. Whereas
neighborhood belong was assessed by viewing neighborhood based activity involvement and

In this study, the control variables are the gender of the student and the school that they attend.
Throughout the study, students are compared on these two variables to understand whether there
were differences based on these. Findings in this study were assessed used various measures with
varying scales. For example, the variables teacher support , depression , and involvement in
school based activities were assessed using ordinal scales and this is apparent because they use
numbers to rank nominal categories. Whereas, academic aspirations is assessed with a nominal

How Token Economies Increase The Latency Of A Gifted Child...
Token economies have been used successfully to reduce the latency of responding to instructions;
Buisson, Murdock, Reynolds and Cronin (1995) used a token economy to decrease the response
latency for completing headings within a set time limit in hearing impaired children and Fjellstedt
and Sulzer AzГЎroff (1973) used a token system to reduce latency of a student who did not follow
directions in a given time limit. The children received tokens, which were paired to back up
reinforcers contingent upon them being compliant and following directions within the time limit
set. In this study the aim is to use procedures similar to these two studies using a token economyto
reduce the response latency in compliance of a gifted child getting off their computerfrom the get
off time that they have been given, to when they actually shut down and gets off the computer for
the day. The target behaviour is the child not complying with the family rules that state a set time
to get off and stay off the computer and iPad each day. The operational definition of getting off the

One that has no mind is being kept from their personal freedoms and desires. If one was to pick if
either mind control is worse or physical control I would choose mind control because your mind is
who you are, your personality. When one controls their mind they are not allowing their imagination
or emotions get the best of them and that is controlling one s thinking.
When one does not have control of their mind they are not able to think for themselves therefore
resulting in not being able to have opinions or even a personality and is kept from their freedoms
and rights to do what they desire. Freedom is the right to tell people what they do not want to hear

People With Mental Illnesses
Throughout history people with mental illnesses were considered to be weird, strange, a witch, or
even possessed up until now. So many people have fought for the rights of these people to be
considered normal and welcomed. Still, many other people around the world do not agree with
this. It s not fair for the people who are considered different to be left out and almost completely
thrown to the curb with little to no sympathy. Many of them try to commit suicideto get rid of all
the pain and suffering, but others help them get back up and help them realize that their life is not
worth throwing away. Even though some of these issues have been resolved, people need to be

Significance Of Light In Fahrenheit 451
From books and TV shows to movies and plays, the contrast between light and dark is found
everywhere. Typically, light indicates something good while the dark is something to be feared and
is bad. For example, most people have this notion that Heaven, which is an unquestionably excellent
place, is all lightwhile Hell, which is atrocious, is completely dark. Even little kids assume
something bad is going to happen in the dark, but is they have a night light then everything will be
okay. This premise carries over into literature, especially Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. In
Fahrenheit 451, Ray Bradbury utilizes light to symbolize knowledge while the dark indicates
ignorance, which is used to develop the notion that the destruction of knowledge... Show more

One such character is Clarisse McClellan. From the moment Montag meets Clarisse he describes
her as, slender and milk white, while she had a look, almost, of pale surprise (Bradbury 3).
Within seconds of meeting Clarisse, Montag emulated the description of her as practically
glowing. In addition, Montag goes as far as to state that her face is as bright as snow in the
moonlight (Bradbury 4). In two pages, Montag describes Clarisse as light four different times.
The lightness of Clariss is used to signal the knowledge, she contains, to the reader. First off, the
reader can detect Clarisse s intellect when she asks, [i]s it true that long ago firemen used to put
fires out instead of going to start them? (Bradbury 6). Her intellect can be discerned because
even Montag, a fireman who should know the answer to this, states that houses have always been

or could not remember if he had known it or not (Bradbury 7). Such as, the fact that billboards
used to be shorter than they are now, or that there is dew on the grass in the morning (Bradbury 7).

Accountability In Military
In the United States Army Reporting is one of the most important actions a soldier can display.
Reporting is used to keep track of a soldier s location and or activities. Without some form of
reporting, it would be impossible to monitor the actions or location of any given soldier. All
soldiers in any unit and or branch of the military must be accounted for at all times. If not
properly reported or accounted for falls not only on the soldier that s missing but falls on the
person in charge over him or her which is usually the Noncommissioned officer and so forth.

How Relationships Can Be Complicated, And They Do Not Come...
Relationships can be complicated, and they do not come with a learner s manual. I never thought
about the distribution of power in relationships. I assumed if I invested in the relationship, showed
empathy to my partner s needs, and was genuinely concerned with their well being, then I held
power in the relationship. The Principle of least interest put things into a new perspective for me.
The ability to communicate the affections of loveseparates us from other beings. However; love,
especially an unhealthy love, can leave us in a defenseless state. The beginning of a relationship
is exhilarating and stimulating, but there is no reassurance or intimacy. When I put my all into a
relationship and there is no effort from my partner, I have surrounded power over the
relationship. I was nineteen years old, and infatuated with my now ex boyfriend. I was
inexperienced with relationships, and wanted someone attentive to my needs. He awarded me
with attention, and I had faith he saw something unique in myself. Reflecting back on the
relationship, I realized the love I had for him was never sufficient enough. He blatantly looked at
other women when we were out together. I tend to not be a jealous person, but it hurt my ego and
pride when my endeavors to look nice went unnoticed. My mother has often asked why I stayed
with him, and I never know how to answer the question. I enabled him to treat me the way he did

trains. While there are other forms of transportation such as taxis and for hire cars such as Uber,
they can only move much smaller groups of people at a time. Public transportation in the United

These vehicles are environmentally friendly. If everyone used their own cars, there would be a
traffic worse than the congestion we typically experience. There will be a decrease in fumes and
traffic which also means less pollution. Therefore, it will be less dangerous for global warming.
To sum it up, having a car is a very useful vehicle that offers many advantages. Public
transportation has high capacity, saves energy and its cheap, but is less comfortable and less
expensive. Public transit is more convenient for some people for many reasons. Using private cars
is somewhat expensive and produces more pollution on atmosphere than public transport. All in all,
public transport is known to be more efficient and cheaper than private cars. Whichever form of

Personal Narrative-Something In The Water By Carrie Underwood
A time in my life when I faced disappointment was when my dance team didn t place at our first
competition of the year. We had gone to the competition in Sauk Rapids. I m only on our kick
team, not jazz. Our team meets usually about once a week to practice our routine and dance
skills. We start in September and go to the end of May. The first half of the year we learn a
routine to perform at our competitions throughout the season. Our song for this year is
Something in the Water, by Carrie Underwood. When we go to competition, we usually have to
arrive about 2 to 3 hours before we perform. I got to the competition and us girls who are only in
kick get to watch the jazz routine. They placed 1st place in their category, which gets us all

Effects Of The Endocrine System
The main system that hypothyroidism has an effect on is the endocrine system since the thyroid is
an endocrine gland. The thyroid gland is located inferior to the thyroid cartilage of the larynx and
anterior to the trachea and it is the gland responsible for regulating metabolism. The pituitary gland
becomes a major player as well because the thyroidgland can only release its hormones from
hormones from the anterior pituitary gland (McKinley, O Loughlin, Bidle, 2013).
The endocrine system works to control and regulate the body. It works by hormones being released
into the blood and carried to target cells and tissues. The control center of the endocrine system is
the hypothalamus. The hypothalamus has direct control over the pituitary gland ... Show more

The World Intellectual Property Organization
Ages ago, people had minimal needs, food and a place to sleep. As generations passed on, humans
became intelligent and smart. Consequently gave a way to inventions, bringing happiness along
with comfort in our day to day activities. However, along with the inventions, came along, those
individuals who want to plagiarize, steal or imitate one s work. Piracy and counterfeiting terms
refer to the goods that come into the market with no permission from the owner. Therefore, to
protect the individual comes in intellectual propertywhich refers to the creations of the mind:
inventions, literary and artistic works; and symbols, name and images used in commerce . ( World
Intellectual PropertyOrganization. What Is Intellectual Property?N.p., n.d. Web. 25 July 2016).
Piracy is when the fake copies of software, movies or any electronic versions of the original are
produced to be sold at lower prices. Goods which are manufactured as a replica of the original
product are counterfeited goods and are sold in the market for knock off prices. Tobacco, alcohol,
food products, designer clothes, watches , accessories, medicines, chemicals, pesticides, perfume ,
cosmetics, body care products, software, games, CDs, DVDs, vehicle spare parts and household
appliances are the most mentioned pirated and counterfeited goods. Let us look into the Fashion
and Luxury goods which constitute a larger part in our counterfeited goods. I do support that the

Reflection Paper On Lacrosse
I wake up, grab my lacrosse stick, ball, and grab the net and started to shoot. I play of my state
lacrosse team we have our first tournament this weekend and I don t wanna be the reason that we
lose. I was originally a D pole for my city team but my coach for state thought otherwise. I could
run the field in 20 seconds flat. At least that is what my coach said. I started out the day with a
couple fakes and spin moves nothing hard just the kind of stuff you need to know when you
want to start. My sister decides to come and play me in a 1v1 (me and my sister are competitive) I
accept so we go to the plains across the street I bring the net along with us. I just school her badly
10:0 she challenged me at my own game1st mistake.
We head back every day I have lacrosse practice at 3:30 until 5:30 that is the best practice ever
because all we do is get in the middle and get on top both 1v1 games against your own teammate. I
used to play D pole like I said but now it is easier to use a short pole. I go through my day of 3
hours in the morning of practice at the plains across the street and hanging with friends doing
more lacrosse. Then it becomes 3 and I have to leave for lacrosse so I grab my gear bag and longer
leaving my long pole there.
We reach the area of where I practice I m usually the first one there but everyone is ready and
geared up and warming up I was late for the first time in my life my dad is so mad. Get out there
Jax you re late I forgot that practice was early today it started at 2. My heart sank I was late so I
wind sprint out of the car and all I hear is there s Jax. Coach is saying I m late so as quick as I
can I strap up my helmet chest and shoulder pads and gloves and ran faster than I ever have
before out there. Today is the day the first day of the tournament all these teams look like the
would be tough but who knows except for the team itself. The thing about state tournaments is
that the teams that you played and beat could have gotten a whole lot better so with a lacrosse
state tournament you have to stay of your game and get better no matter if you re a starter and
always will be a starter. As we head to our group of tents I don t see anyone even if they are the
starters there are

Qing China And Tokugawa China
For many students around the world, ethnocentrism is a real, serious issue that impedes
understanding and success. One example of how this ethnocentrism invades the minds of the
average American and distorts their thoughts is by asking them to compare different Asian histories
or cultures, to which they will likely reply they re all the same. In addition to being ethnocentric,
this viewpoint is just plain wrong. Take, for example, Qing Chinaand Tokugawa Japan. Though
these two Asian empires had many things in common, they are far from being the same. Qing
China refers to the period of Chinese history between 1644 and 1911, when the foreign Manchus
established a dynasty and ruled over China, calling themselves the Qing. The non Chinese tribes
that came to power at this time were from the area that would later be called Manchuria.
Geographically, Qing China grew three times the size of what it was under the Ming, expanding
north to include areas of Mongolia and Manchuria, as well as west. The country was divided into
provinces, with each province being managed and governed under tusi, or native chieftains. The
region of China is largely mountainous, with the majority of the population densely packed near the
coast and around the Yellow River Valley. After establishing their rule, the Manchus created a new
dynasty and declared a new emperor, carrying on the traditional Chinese system of government and
administration that had existed since the time of the Tang. Despite this,

Gang Prevention Programs And Their Effectiveness
I.Overview of the topic/problem statement
My topic is to discover gang prevention programs and their effectiveness. The prevention programs
being discussed are the G.R.E.A.T. program and the Comprehensive Anti Gang Initiative (CAGI).
The problem is that these prevention methods are not effective in alternatives to gang life. The
alternatives could include family, protection, and these support that gangs give to their members. If
these programs are not successful in offering these alternatives then the program will not be as
effective. My goal was to test these programs by using a new classification of gang control
strategies. This topic is important in Social Work because gang prevention can saved lives by

Before the revision of the G.R.E.A.T. program the program evaluation was not good (Esbensen,
F., Peterson, D., Taylor, T., Freng, A., Osgood, D., Carson, D., Matsuda, K. ,2011). Finn Aage
Esbensen (2011), did a study on G.R.E.A.T. students versus Non G.R.E.A.T. students to monitor
their attitudes and whether the behavioral goals were achieved (Esbensen, F., Peterson, D.,
Taylor, T., Freng, A., Osgood, D., Carson, D., Matsuda, K. ,2011). The differences the
G.R.E.A.T. students showed were lower levels of victimization and risk seeking tendencies, more
prosocial peers, more negative views about gangs, and more positive views of law enforcement
(Esbensen, F., Peterson, D., Taylor, T., Freng, A., Osgood, D., Carson, D., Matsuda, K. ,2011).
Furthermore, there were no differences between G.R.E.A.T. and non G.R.E.A.T. students in levels
of delinquency, violence, or gang membership (Esbensen, F., Peterson, D., Taylor, T., Freng, A.,
Osgood, D., Carson, D., Matsuda, K. ,2011). . Importantly, the five significant differences did not
emerge until 3 or 4 years after program exposure; the earlier analyses conducted just 2 years post
program revealed no differences at all between the experimental and comparison groups (Esbensen,
F., Peterson, D., Taylor, T., Freng, A., Osgood, D., Carson, D., Matsuda, K. ,2011). The
significant 3 and 4 year results support lagged

Language In To The Lighthouse, By Virginia Woolf
Virginia Woolf (1882 1941) was a prolific writer, whose style changed with each new novel, and her
work represented the historical moment when art was integrated into society. Her modernist novel
To the Lighthouse stray s from the conventional forms of writing, concentrating not on the plot but
on the characters consciousnessand physical development, producing an innovative type of
narrative which depicts realities beneath appearances, and at the same time brings about a deep
exploration of the human mind. To the Lighthouse was written in 1927 and it is considered a
masterpiece due to the way in which Woolf experimented with the stream of consciousness as well
as with the emotional feelings of her characters. The composition has relatively... Show more

This game of back and forth between what Lily and Mr. Ramsey are thinking, and what they are
actual saying is clarified with the help of the parentheses, which signal the sudden switches in
perspective. Thus at moments it is one character s consciousness, at others it is the narrative voice,
and afterwards another character s consciousness is introduced, all of these being combined within
one sentence. These aspects are psychological elements that constitute the basis for a modernist
writing, and as Virginia Woolf said in her essay Modern Fictionfor the moderns the point of
interest lies very likely in the dark places of psychology. (11) Though the novel contains a
multitude of conventional narration and descriptions, the interior monologue is very often
employed so as to give the novel its special character of seeming to be always within the
consciousness of the characters. A good example of WoolfВґs technique can be seen in the fallowing

The Most Common Ways People Identify Themselves
Race is one of the most common ways people identify themselves. There are different advantages
and disadvantages associated with different races. People are often judged on how they look and
act. Some people benefit more than others just based on race. Others can be put at a disadvantage
because of their sexual orientation. The familyyou are born into can have a major impact on how
you are seen and what type of privileges and struggles you will face in life. Looking at my life
specifically, I will reflect on how the culture, including race and gender, from the past and present
can influence people s lives in general and in education. My mom s side of the family arrived in the
United States in the late 1800 s. Both of my grandmother and grandfather s families came to the
United States voluntarily. My grandmother s family came from England. Her grandfather, who
came from an affluent family, first arrived in Ellis Island, New York, but later settled in the
Maryland Eastern Shore. Similarly, my grandfather s family settled in the Maryland Eastern
Shore after coming from Czech Republic. Though they came voluntarily, they feared the Russians
taking over their country so decided to leave. On each side of the family, farming was the main
type of work they engaged in. Both sides started attending school in the early 1900 s. At this time
it was only common to attend school for a few years because staying at home to attend the farm
was more of priority than formal schooling. My

The Effectiveness of the Criminal Justice System in...
The reservation of the Convention on the Rights of a Child (CROC) had played invaluable role in
charging the way in which young offenders are dealt with within the Australia Criminal Process.
Including the introduction of the theory known as Doli Incapax meaning the age of criminal
reasonability, the Young Offender Act 1997 NSW as well new law regarding the rights of a child
once they have been arrested. It is evident that these while some of charges are still ineffective in
dealing with Young Offenders within the Criminal JusticeSystem the majority of them are in place
for the greater good and are assisting young offenders when it relates to the Criminal Justice System.
Doli Incapax is just one of the ways in which children are now treated more equally under the
law. According to the theory it is presumption that children are incapable of having criminal
intent which in terms means that children under the age of 10 are unable to be charge with any
criminal offence and when relating to children 10 to 13 the prosecution make be able to show
that the child at the time of the alleged offence actually know what they were doing was seriously
wrong. According to Section 6 of the Children (Criminal Proceedings) Act 1987 children have
rights equal to adult offender and have a right to be heard and participate in criminal proceedings

Economic Effects Of The Slave Revolution
Slavery had an overwhelming impact on the political, social, and economical in the United States.
Jamestown, Virginia in 1619, the first African slaves were brought into the United States. Reasons
were because the tobacco, sugar, rice, and coffee fields were expanding which led to increase
demand for labor. The Atlantic slave tradewas an inhuman systematic importation of slaves
between the African traders, American planters, and the European merchants bargaining over
human lives which led to the Middle Passage. 1675 1775, the slaves were the backbone of
monoculture labor and so it was put into law to keep the Africans as slaves. So prevalent was this
Italian operated slave trade that the word slave was derived from the word Slav, name for people
from Slavic countries (Williams 3). In both seventeenth and eighteenth centuries the African
American slaves helped build the economic foundations of the new nation. After the War of 1812,
three historical processes unleashed by the Revolution, which were the following: the spread of
market relations, the westward movement of the population, and the rise of a vigorous political
democracy. The same steamboats and canals that were used by millions of famers to send their
goods to the markets, also facilitated the growth of the slave based cotton plantations in the South.
In the first half of the nineteenth century, the market revolution swept over the United States. Both

Hedging Currency Risk at Aifs
Summary
AIFS is an American based company that offers travel abroad and exchange study services to both
college and high school students. While AIFS s revenues are denominated in American Dollars
(USD), most of their costs are in foreign currencies as Euros (EUR) and British Pounds (GBP).
Consequently, foreign exchange hedging has a crucial importance for the company because it
provides protection against different types of risk that derive from its activity.
In order to reduce risk, the company is using two hedging derivatives: forward contracts and put
options to sell dollars. The aim of the paper is to determine an appropriate hedging policy which
answers two main questions: how much to hedge, and in what proportions of forwards ... Show

Then, we took into consideration only a fluctuation of the exchange rate. The scenarios that we
analyzed covers different positions of the dollar against the euro: weak dollar (USD 1,48/EUR),
stable dollar (USD 1,22/EUR) and strong dollar (USD 1,01/EUR). Different coverage of costs with
hedging was also introduced in the analysis. The three main policies are of not hedging, 100%
hedging with forward contracts and 100% hedging with options.
All the future computations are in comparison with the impact zero scenario of a rate of USD
1,22/EUR and a volume of 25 000 sales. (Exhibit 2)
If the company chooses not to hedge the costs, and the dollar weakens against the euro reaching a
rate of USD 1,48/EUR, then it will encounter losses of $6,500,000 (Exhibit 1). On the other hand,
if the dollar strengthens to the level of USD 1,01/EUR, then the company will register a gain of
$5,250,000. (Exhibit 3)
But, even though the possibility of winning exists, the company is exposed to a greater risk if it
does not hedge. Moreover, the policy of the company is to ensure against the risk, not to speculate
on the foreign exchange market.
Exhibit 7 from the case study describes the currency development in medium term of the GBP and
EURO against the dollar. We can observe that the currencies are exposed to high volatility, which

Should Smoking Be Banned In Public Places
Would you purposely stub your toe on the coffee table or purposely hit your thumb with a
hammer? Then why would you or anyone do an act that you know would hurt you or those around
you? Why would a person smoke in a public place when they know it can cause them and their
loved ones harm? This is one of many of the reasons why smokingshould be banned in public
places. Before we get into the argument of whether smoking should be allowed in public places or
not, we first need to identify a few items: the concept of smoking, the reasons people smoke, the
government s involvement, and an alternative solution.
First, let us answer the question of what is smoking? Smoking refers to the inhalation and
exhalation of fumes from burning of tobacco in cigars, cigarettes and pipes (Smoking). It was
first used in the 1500s by the natives of the Western Hemisphere for religious rituals and
medicinal purposes (Smoking). Next, we need to answer the question of what is considered a
public place? According to US Leal, a public place is generally an indoor or outdoor area,
whether privately or publicly owned, to which the public have access by right or by invitation,
expressed or implied, whether by payment of money or not .
Another question you may be asking yourself is why do people smoke? There could be a number
of reasons why people choose to smoke, but the most common reasons include addiction, emotions,
and routine (Reasons). With addiction, people become dependent on

Analysis of Wal Mart Essay
Analysis of Wal Mart Wal Mart is the largest retailer in Canada , Mexico and USA. In addition to
that Wal Mart has been known in USA not only for its dimensions but also for a very big number
of reasons and good values. I think the best way to start an analysis about Wal mart strategy is to
see where the company is now with the use of a brief Swot analysis. As far as the Strengths are
concerned , I think that one of the most important features Wal Mart has is the customer approach.
Sam Walton wanted its organization to provide the customers with the so called aggressive
hospitality and with this Walton meant that the employers have to provide the customers with all
they need , they always... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The fidelity programs are an important instrument to lock in the consumers . In addition to that
the mission statement was not formalized . As we know is always important to have a clear
mission statement because it helps to have a more clear vision about the company and especially
about the purposes of the company. Another weakness is that the women employees are paid less
than the men employees are. This problem arose in 2003 when the company had to face with a
federal lawsuit filed by six female employees complaining that there were discriminations against
women in pay. This fact was also underlined by some studies based on the Wal Mart s payroll data.
As far the opportunities are concerned I think that the European market can be a market where to
put more efforts in the expansion . Another opportunity can be the creation of an online store where
the people can buy their items and have them delivered at home. The threats are that some small
cities do not want Wal mart to install its business locally because they want to maintain their own
business integrity. Another problem is that the products Wal Mart sells are very standardized and
so easy to substitute with other products . People

Causes Of The War Of 1812 Essay
The immediate causes of the War of 1812 were a series of economic downs taken by the British
and French against the US as part of the Napoleonic Wars and American outrage at the British
practice of impressment. In response to the 1806 British Orders in Council, which crippled
American trade. In 1812, with President Madison in office, Congress declared war against the
British. There were many causes of the war including British attempts to restrict U.S. trade, the
Royal Navy s impressment of American seamen and America s desire to expand its territory. The
United Statessuffered from many costly defeats from the hands of the British, Canadian and Native
American troops over the course of the War of 1812. Some of which were the capture and burning
of the nation s capital, Washington, D.C., in August 1814. Many in the United States... Show more

Britain moved for an agreement after the failure of the assault on Baltimore. During the
negotiations, the United States gave up its demands to end impressment, while Britain promised
to leave Canada s borders unchanged and abandon efforts to create an Indian state in the
Northwest. Once the Treaty of Ghent was signed British forces were unaware that peach had been
finalized and British forces planned a major attack on New Orleans. They were then met with
defeat at the hands of future U.S. president Andrew Jackson s army. News of the battle boosted the
morale of the United States and left Americans with a taste of victory. Some people remember the
war as a relatively minor conflict in the United States and Britain. It seems a lot larger for
Canadians and for Native Americans, they see it as a decisive turning point in their losing struggle
to govern themselves. Most importantly, the war s outcome boosted national self confidence and
encouraged the growing spirit of American expansionism that would shape the better part of the 19th

The Role Of A Woman Essay
For years, all things involving power and prestige had been controlled and owned by men. The
role of a woman was believed to be limited to domestic responsibilities until the onset of the
feminist movement. The twentieth century became a time of social change for women that found a
voice in art via paintings, portraits, and photography. With time, women became more visible in
public life, and art became the reflection of not only their suffering, but their perseverance,
courage, and strength. Freedom from the stereotypical chains of society for women was the
message conveyed through the works of artists Alice Neel, Barbara Kruger, and Mary Kelly during
the twentieth century. Realism in art was a movement in which artists works captured content in a
natural way without artistic embellishment or implausibility. It was a direct reflection of what had
been observed in the world through lenses that granted audiences a true to life view. Though the
movement ended during the 1920 s, artists Alice Neel and Mary Kelly revived Realism to art
through paintings and portraits. Along with this revival, came psychological insight into social and
political issues of the twentieth Century, and move toward a different image of what it meant to be
a businesswoman. Viewed as the complete opposite of men, women had been denied education, the
right to vote, and the right to hold any type of professional occupation. Becoming educated would
have empowered women to participate in society;

Transformational Leadership Within A Health Care Setting
Using transformational leadership in nursing practice can increase morale, motivation, and enhance
job performance, which can ultimately improve patient outcomes and quality of care. The purpose
of this paper is to explain what exactly transformational leadership is, and how it can be used by
nurse leaders within a health care setting to inspire positive change within the working environment
to improve patient quality of patient care and improve job performance.
Introduction
As we know the healthcare system is constantly changing, therefore requiring effective leadership
among nurses. With that said leadership that promotes positive change is necessary in a health
care setting. Transformational leadership was developed by leadership expert James MacGregor
Burns in the late 1970 s. Transformational leadership is considered a contemporary leadership
theory. Contemporary theories of leadership place emphasis on teamwork and collaboration, and
is built around the premise of change. Transformational leadership is a process that motivates
followers by appealing to the higher ideas and moral values where the leader has a deep set of
internal values and ideas and is persuasive at motivating followers to act in a way that sustains the
greater good rather than their own interests (Burns, 1978 as cited in Owen Doody Catriona Doody,
2012, p.1212). Therefore, when it comes to implementing transformational leadership in a
healthcare setting the nurse leader must takes on various

Archetypes Used In The Lamb And The Tyger
Do you see yourself being more like a lamb, or more like a tiger? In William Blake s two poems,
The Lamb and The Tyger he talks about archetypes, and how there are two different types of
people in the world. Some people turn out to be lambs and some are tigers. What types of people
does Blake, a romantic poet, hope to represent in The Lambor in The Tyger? William Blake uses
archetypes in the poems The Lamb and The Tyger.
First of all, the poem starts with a question, Little Lamb, who made thee? William asks the lamb
about where and how it came into being, its clothing of wool, its tender voice. Blake states that in
lines six and seven. In lines fifteen and sixteen Blake writes He is meek and he is mild, He became

The Effects Of Yellowstone Volcanic Complex On The World
Introduction
Yellowstone volcano is one of the most explosive, active silicic volcanic fields in the world and is
classified as a super volcano . Its Late Quaternary history, in terms of ages, sizes and frequency of
eruptions, has been well documented (Farrell et al., 2014). Understanding its properties will help us
to better understand the hazards it poses, both now and in the future. As it is protected from
geothermal energy or mineral exploration and development, Yellowstone provides a unique
opportunity to research an undisturbed major volcanic system and the temporal and spatial changes
that occur naturally (Hurwitz Lowenstern, 2014).
This report discusses the history of Yellowstone volcanic complex over the past 2.1 million years,
eruptive style, compositions, associated hazards and the structure of the magma chamber. In
addition, we look at areas into which research is currently occurring or should in the future, and
discuss a strategy for monitoring and forecasting of future activity.
History
Over the past 2.1 million years, three large eruptions with widespread effects have occurred in
the Yellowstone Plateau Volcanic Field (YPVF) (Hurwitz Lowenstern, 2014). The first of these was
2.059 В± 0.004 Ma (Lanphere et al., 2002), and produced the 2450 km3 Huckleberry Ridge Tuff.
The second was at 1.285 В± 0.004 Ma (Lanphere et al., 2002), producing the 280 km3 Mesa Falls
Tuff and the Henrys Fork caldera. The most recent of the three occurred 0.639 В± 0.002

Herbert Hoover And The Great Depression
In the 1920s, Americans were trying to figure out what was everyone s role in society. During this
time women started to take on bigger jobs then housekeeping and African Americans are finally
standing up for their race. Once 1929 hit, Herbert Hoover, America s newest president, was viewed
as an American Superhero at that time because of everything he promised society; however,
America gets hit by the Great Depressionleaving society in a hole. While banking systems were
unstable and overproduction were leaving people bankrupt, Herbert Hoover was blaming Europe
and was failing to keep society financially stable. As his presidency went on, filmmakers made
film cycles and gangster pictures like Little Caesar that portrayed America s corrupt society during
the Great Depression. By the end of his campaign, Hoover was known as the worst American ever
which led to the rising of Franklin D. Rooseveltin 1933. Roosevelt saw the struggling society as an
opportunity to help his campaign in which he created the New Deal. America was given an
opportunity that allowed them to look forward to the future. During Herbert Hoover s presidency,
America did not support the federal government, but after Franklin D. Roosevelt ran for president
and promised a New Deal, they began to look more favorably on the government. Herbert Hoover
was known as the great humanitarian who can solve any problem he faced. Later on, it turns out to
be false which ends up hurting not only America but the people

Theory of Staining Techniques
Theories of Staining Techniques Staining bacteria with different dyes via staining techniques,
allows in distinguishing the microorganism from its backgrounds. Also, helps in studying different
internal structures such as vacuoles, cell walls and spores in details (Seeley and others 1991).
Some staining techniques such as Gram staining, endospore stain and capsule stain are some of the
theories of stains used in bacteriology today. Also, these staining procedures help in determining
properties of an unknown culture. Gram staining is a differential stain that helps in distinguishing
between types of bacteria and it is the most useful staining procedure used today (Seeley and others
1991). In this kind of staining procedure, a basic... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, a normal observation of an endospore staining would have green stained endospores
and the rest of the cells without endospore cells (Seeley and others 1991). In addition, if a simple
stain is used, the spores will appear clear because the walls of endospores resist stain penetration
(Black 2005). FIG II A different kind of stain is the capsule stain. In this staining procedure, the
capsules in a cell are not stained intensely because they vary in thickness and can repel stains
(Seeley and others 1991). Congo red is the primary stain in this procedure, which stains both
bacterial cell and the surrounding capsule (Seeley and others 1991). To start off, place several
loopfuls of unknown culture in Congo red solution on a glass slide. Then, allow the slide to air
dry. However, do not heat fix as noted in the above two staining procedures. Next, flood the
smear with Maneval s stain for at least 1 minute, then rinse with water and blot dry. Following
that, observe the slide under the oil immersion objective and record any findings of the capsules
unstained ad blue or black backgrounds. After observation of the slide, the capsule stain of the
unknown culture appeared unstained with a blackish background and the cells were reddish brown
and they were large and arranged in pairs, which indicates that there is presence of some bacterial

Technological Surveillance Should Not Keep Up With The...
Technological surveillance is used in a wide field of areas from wiretapping, hacking, bugging,
electronic tracking, video surveillance and so on, but, when used by the government, technological
surveillance creates a particularly dramatic threat to the privacy of individual citizens (p. 354),
although this is uncertain to the government if it is indeed goes against citizen s privacy.
Technology advances so quickly, that the law cannot keep up with the swift changes. The first
issue involving technological surveillance was in the case Olmstead v. United States (1928), when
officer s wiretapped Olmstead home phone from across the street from a telephone pole. The
problem with this case was if the wire tapping a violation of the fourth... Show more content on

In the case Silverman v. United States (1961) a search warrant was required because the officers
physical penetrated through the defendants house. The issue involving privacy is found in the case
Katz v. United States (1967) where agents attached a recorded device to a phone booth in order to
hear a conversation. The question of privacy came up when they attached the device to the phone
booth, although it was not Katz property, it was the fact that a phone booth is used and designed
for privacy, so this case would require a warrant and they courts, excluded the conversations thereby
obtained, in the process overturning Olmstead and rejecting the trespass doctrine. Because the
government action violated the privacy upon which Katz justifiably relied while using the
telephone booth (p. 357) therefore the bugging went against the Fourth Amendment. There has to
be a fine line on which devices protect our Fourth Amendment rights and how are they being
determined. Well in the case Berger v. New York (1967) it notified the states that statutes
authorizing eavesdropping under court order would, at the least, have to comply with traditional
Fourth Amendment search warrant requirement (p. 358). Due to Berger and Katz, congress
congress passed Title III of the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe streets Act of 196. (p. 358). Title

he signed with the Cubs, again aiding his new team to break what seemed to be a hopeless World

Essay on The American Hero
The American Hero
Every child has fantasy s of being a super hero and leaping tall buildings in a single bound or
staring death in the face everyday and somehow finding a way to escape. All of these imaginative
thoughts have been derived from the past literary works by the great writers of the early American
literary period. These early writers entered society into a world of action and adventure, where one
can see spectacular events unfolding through the eyes of a notorious man of courage and feel as
though they are defending there country or saving the woman they love. Though the modern heroes
are much more popular than classic American heroes, the modern hero has rooted from these same
literary works ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In The Deerslayer, Natty is seen as and idealized youth. Natty is later seen wondering through the
forest and lonely waters and is confronted by hunters, Indians, and the hostile Europeans ;
(Groliers NP). This is an example of Natty encountering physical danger. This wilderness scout is
the first of his kind in American literature and was seen nowhere before by the American readers.
This novel allowed the readers to enter a world where they could relive the Revolutionary War,
Indian wars, and battles on the frontier.
After The Deer Slayer, Natty Bumppo is seen in The Last of the Mohicans. In this novel, Natty is
called Hawkeye because of his ties to the Mohicans. Indians of this time were looked upon as
savages, but Natty has taken unto himself the best of both civilization and so called savagery ;
(Cliff Notes 11). Because he made peace with the Indians, he had a mysterious and dangerous
quality in the eyes of the reader. In this novel Natty has many close native companions to join him
in his endeavors on the frontier.
During the French and Indian Wars, The Legendary woodsman, Natty Bumppo, is know by another
famous alias s, The Pathfinder. His companions in this story is his adoptive Indian father,

Genetically Modified Organisms Are Safe And Should Be Used
Day in and day out we are beginning to eat more and more foods with genetically modified
organisms. A genetically modified organism is living organisms whose genetic material has been
artificially manipulated in a laboratory through genetic engineering. Although some see this as a
bad thing, I personally feel that GMOs are safe and should be used routinely. Corn for example, is
something that is used daily in the study of genetic modifications. One large example of the genetic
modification is Bt corn.
Corn has been around for many years and has served many useful purposes for humans. About
eighty million acres are growing with corn crops (Capehart 1), Corn is an ingredient in a
multitude of food and manufactured products such as starch, sweeteners, corn oil, drinking and
rubbing alcohol (Capehart 1). The first genetically modified corn crop was planted in the United
States in 1996 (Thomson 20). From 1996 to present day, the presence of genetically modified corn
has increased considerably. The production of Bt corn occurs in five steps. The first step is
removing the desired gene from the organism. This step is a highly restrictive step due to the
inadequate amount of information known about certain genes needed to enhance the genetic
makeup of plants (Romero 1). Two main functions involved in this step are restriction enzymes and
DNA ligase (Romero 1). The DNA ligase puts the DNA fragments back together. The second step
is cloning the desired gene. The gene now undergoes a

COPE Intervention
The good news is also that the increasing societal awareness and research has developed effective
treatment options that can be implemented into a school setting. Cognitive behavioral therapy
provides the basis for most of these intervention style treatments, based on the assumption that
dysfunctional thinking can be changed and, in turn, lead to symptomatic relief and improvement in
functioning (Craske, 2010, p. 49). Cognitive behavioral therapy focuses on overriding the
automatic mal adaptive pathways of depressed thought, or functions at the conscious level to effect
changes in the preconscious level (Craske, 2010, p. 49). Essentially, it gives the depressed person

  • 2. Grendel Vs Beowulf Research Paper Beowulf and Grendel, the main characters of their self titled books, are two very different, yet very similar characters. Beowulf, whose real author is unknown, is said to be one of the oldest pieces of English literature ever and is translated from Old English by Seamus Heaney, tells the tale of a valiant member of the Geat people who travels across the sea to help the Danes and King Hrothgar battle Grendel, a vicious monstrosity who is ravaging the local area. Grendel is written by John Gardner and tells the same tale of Beowulfs courageous attempt, while presenting the story from Grendel s point of view, a new spin on the age old story. Point of view plays a huge role in these stories, with Beowulf being read by a omniscient narrator whose god like abilities seems to allow them to bounce around from the past, present, and future. Grendel, on the other hand, is completely in first person and rarely ventures away from that point of view, only when Grendel seems to have the ability to read people s actions and minds without... This is no mere hanger on in a hero s armour, (19 Heaney). This scene shows just how majestic and heroic Beowulf is and the point of view allows us to see what everyone is thinking in every situation, giving us a god like view of the story. This constant input from all pieces of the story aids the reader in seeing Beowulf as a true hero, primarily because of this abrupt assumption by the Danish coast guard. Beowulf s grandiose image reinforces the notion of what a hero looks and acts like and without the omniscient point of view it wouldn t be the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Remittance Flow Of Bangladesh And Bangladesh Abstract In Bangladesh, remittance is one of the most important economic variables in recent times as it helps in balancing balance of payments, increasing foreign exchange reserves, enhancing national savings and increasing velocity of money. Moreover, it is greater than foreign aid and thus helps in lessening dependence on foreign aid. Remittance gets momentum in recent time in Bangladesh and is the second largest sector of foreign exchange earnings after the garments sector. If cost of imported raw materials is deducted from the foreign exchange earning of the garments sector, remittance becomes the single largest sector of foreign exchange earnings. Remittance earning is increasing day by day but at a lower rate than the increase in emigration from Bangladesh due to the increasing share of unskilled or semi skilled labors than the professionals in international migration. The share of remittance in GNI (Gross National Income) is increasing day by day. It affects almost all the macro economic indicators of a country positively. Though there are also negative sides of remittance earning e.g. brain drain, its overall contribution to Bangladesh economy is very much effective. Appropriate and timely government policies and initiatives can boost up the amount of remittance and can rectify the problems related to it. Remittance has created a new dimension in the economic development of Bangladesh. We have to properly unlock the potentialities of remittances and utilize it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Puberty Rites Of Passage In many cultures around the world, ceremonies are held or rituals are undergone to mark the passage of adolescents into adulthood. These are known as rites of passage. Rites of passage, is a term first coined by Arnold Van Gennep in 1909 to describe the universal transition of adolescents by maturational progression, a phenomenon that is cross cultural (Gibson, 2007). Indeed, the term puberty rites and rite of passagecan be used interchangeably. Because puberty is an experience all humans have, the rite of passage may reflect cultural evolution as co occurring with bodily changes (Weisfeld ,1997, as cited by Gibson, 2007). Rites of passage can also signify changes of status in other stages of life, and these transitions seem to be demarcated... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is theorized that the adolescent rite of passage has lost its importance because of a change in focus from communal concerns to individuality, or exposure to varied belief systems (Gibson, 2007). Some youth, who lack the completion of these semblances of rites, create their own through activities such as the use of substances, body modification, or gang initiation (Sande, 2002; Vigil, 1996; Wall, n.d., as cited by Gibson, 2007). A possible reason for the fading of formal rites, is a societal move away from the importance of sexual maturity for reproduction reasons to a society that instead imbues status for financial and vocational gains (Gibson, ... It played a major role in the daily life of each of its citizens, as religion also heavily influenced the governing system they had implemented at the time. • 9. Themes And Reflection Of The Allegory Of Young Goodman Brown 1)What is the tone of this passage? Which words convey this tone? Despite the sporadic shift in of tone with words such as brightening and sunshine, the overall passage is very somber and serious. The authors use of dark, sorrow, lamentations, and black mass, to describe the situation presented the events as deceitful and wicked. 2)Where does the author use imagery? The author uses imagery in the passage more than once. For example, the lines black mass of cloud and hid the brightening stars, suggest that the cloud deprives the forest of it s of light. The imagery suggests that the forest is now dark and therefore gives the reader an ominous feeling about the events to come. 3)What is the theme of this passage? The theme of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Strictly speaking, this means that Nathaniel Hawthorne wrote this short story to reveal that people are not permanently good or permanently evil. Symbolism: The forest in the story symbolizes evil and corruption because according to Puritan beliefs, the forest is the home of the devil. This is important to the story because Goodman Brown does encounter evil inside of the forest instead of in the village. Situational Irony: Situational irony is seen when Goodman Brown hides in the forest to avoid being seen by Goody Cloyse. Goody Cloyse, his catechism teacher, is known as holy among the villagers. The reader expects Goody Cloyse to be surprised and afraid upon encountering the old man, but the opposite happened she walked with him. This is situational irony because the reader expected Cloyse to avoid evil rather than joining into communion with it. Dramatic Irony: In the short story Young Goodman Brown, Nathaniel Hawthorne used dramatic irony to foreshadow dark events that would occur later that night through Faith s dreams. The reader can assume that Faith s nightmares anticipate Goodman Brown s unholy actions in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Compare The Reaction Between Tert-Butyl Chloride And Alkyl... The data reveals that reactions occurred in all four test tubes. This means that all four test tubes turned out to be positive reactions. The data collected regarding the reactions did not meet the expectation. The expectation was that two out of the four tubes would yield a reaction. To be specific, the expectation was that only one of the first two tubes would have a reaction, and only one of the second two tubes (tubes 3 4) would have a reaction. This was the expectation because the goal of the reactions was to verify the structure of the alkyl halides. The structure of the tert butyl chloride and chlorobutane were in question. If they reacted with NaI, it could be concluded that they were primary alkyl halides. If they reacted with AgNO3, it could be concluded that they were tertiary alkyl halides.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... AgNO3 easily undergoes reactions with tertiary alkyl halides (SN1). The four tubes should not all have undergone reactions because that would give an unclear indication whether or not the alkyl halides were primary or tertiary. Two tubes were supposed to undergo reaction and two should not have. It is likely that the error that made the extra two test tubes react was contamination. If the test tubes contained traces of both solvents, it would be possible that the alkyl halides would react in all the test tubes. This is because the alkyl halide would react with its preferred solvent, even if the solvent is present in small quantities. This contamination could have been due to using the same pipette to transfer the solvents. It also could have been possible that the test tubes used were not properly cleaned and still contained traces of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. The Higgs boson Theorised by physicists Francois Elgert... The Higgs boson or God Particle was theorised 50 years ago by two physicists Francois Elgert and Peter Higgs. They were awarded with a Nobel Prize for confirming its existence on July 4th, 2012. It is possible further research will lead to major discoveries in the future of physics . The Higgs boson is known as the key to understanding why mass exists and how it was originally constructed. It should be further examined and studied. The Higgs boson and Higgs field have been explained many different ways in order to provide a better understanding. The more interaction something has with the field, the more mass it will have and the simplest way of explaining this is through a metaphor. For example, consider a body of water. The water will drag on things that move through it, but it will not affect all things in the same way. A jetski, for instance, would meet little resistance as it moves forward which resembles the way electrons cooperate with the Higgs field. There is very little interaction and therefore less mass. A swimmer on the other hand will meet much more resistance while emerged in water. This resembles the way that W and Z bosons drag through the Higgs field. They have thousands of times more mass than electrons, protons, and neutrons. Photons do not interact with the scalar field and therefore have no mass. In this metaphor planes flying over bodies of water represent the photons. The body of water represents the Higgs field and the water droplets that make up ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Relationship Between Occident And Orient To begin, may be a bit abruptly, I would like to quote from Edward Said s Orientalism :: The relationship between Occident and Orient is a relationship of power , of domination , of varying degrees of a complex hegemony... And he mentions Flaubert s impression of an Egyptian courtesan ..that she was ever silent and never represented her emotions, presence, or history. Flaubert as the male, superior, occidental has all the right to present her as typically Oriental she is denied her own voice . The Discipline Of Military History Military history is a humanities discipline within the scope of general historical recording of armed conflict in the history of humanity, and its impact on the societies, their cultures, economies and changing intra and international relationships. Professional historians normally focus on military affairs that had a major impact on the societies involved as well as the aftermath of conflicts, while amateur historians and hobbyists often take a larger interest in the details of battles, equipment and uniforms in use. The dynamic nature of the discipline of military history is largely related to the rapidity of change the military forces, and the art and science of managing them, as well as the frenetic pace of technological development that had taken place during the period known as the Industrial Revolution, and more recently in the nuclear and information ages. Whereas, academic aspirations is assessed with a nominal scale; the responses are groups that cannot be used to compare other responses. • 16. How Token Economies Increase The Latency Of A Gifted Child... Token economies have been used successfully to reduce the latency of responding to instructions; Buisson, Murdock, Reynolds and Cronin (1995) used a token economy to decrease the response latency for completing headings within a set time limit in hearing impaired children and Fjellstedt and Sulzer AzГЎroff (1973) used a token system to reduce latency of a student who did not follow directions in a given time limit. The children received tokens, which were paired to back up reinforcers contingent upon them being compliant and following directions within the time limit set. In this study the aim is to use procedures similar to these two studies using a token economyto reduce the response latency in compliance of a gifted child getting off their computerfrom the get off time that they have been given, to when they actually shut down and gets off the computer for the day. The target behaviour is the child not complying with the family rules that state a set time to get off and stay off the computer and iPad each day. The operational definition of getting off the computer/iPad in this case is, the computer and iPad are shutdown completely and the child has removed himself from the computer desk and reported in person to his parents, and does not go back on his computer or iPad for the rest of the night. • 20. Significance Of Light In Fahrenheit 451 From books and TV shows to movies and plays, the contrast between light and dark is found everywhere. Typically, light indicates something good while the dark is something to be feared and is bad. For example, most people have this notion that Heaven, which is an unquestionably excellent place, is all lightwhile Hell, which is atrocious, is completely dark. Even little kids assume something bad is going to happen in the dark, but is they have a night light then everything will be okay. One example of how this ethnocentrism invades the minds of the average American and distorts their thoughts is by asking them to compare different Asian histories or cultures, to which they will likely reply they re all the same. In addition to being ethnocentric, this viewpoint is just plain wrong. Take, for example, Qing Chinaand Tokugawa Japan. Though these two Asian empires had many things in common, they are far from being the same. Qing China refers to the period of Chinese history between 1644 and 1911, when the foreign Manchus established a dynasty and ruled over China, calling themselves the Qing. The non Chinese tribes that came to power at this time were from the area that would later be called Manchuria. Geographically, Qing China grew three times the size of what it was under the Ming, expanding north to include areas of Mongolia and Manchuria, as well as west. The country was divided into provinces, with each province being managed and governed under tusi, or native chieftains. The region of China is largely mountainous, with the majority of the population densely packed near the coast and around the Yellow River Valley. The reservation of the Convention on the Rights of a Child (CROC) had played invaluable role in charging the way in which young offenders are dealt with within the Australia Criminal Process. Including the introduction of the theory known as Doli Incapax meaning the age of criminal reasonability, the Young Offender Act 1997 NSW as well new law regarding the rights of a child once they have been arrested. It is evident that these while some of charges are still ineffective in dealing with Young Offenders within the Criminal JusticeSystem the majority of them are in place for the greater good and are assisting young offenders when it relates to the Criminal Justice System. Doli Incapax is just one of the ways in which children are now treated more equally under the law. According to the theory it is presumption that children are incapable of having criminal intent which in terms means that children under the age of 10 are unable to be charge with any criminal offence and when relating to children 10 to 13 the prosecution make be able to show that the child at the time of the alleged offence actually know what they were doing was seriously wrong. Jamestown, Virginia in 1619, the first African slaves were brought into the United States. Reasons were because the tobacco, sugar, rice, and coffee fields were expanding which led to increase demand for labor. The Atlantic slave tradewas an inhuman systematic importation of slaves between the African traders, American planters, and the European merchants bargaining over human lives which led to the Middle Passage. 1675 1775, the slaves were the backbone of monoculture labor and so it was put into law to keep the Africans as slaves. So prevalent was this Italian operated slave trade that the word slave was derived from the word Slav, name for people from Slavic countries (Williams 3). In both seventeenth and eighteenth centuries the African American slaves helped build the economic foundations of the new nation. After the War of 1812, three historical processes unleashed by the Revolution, which were the following: the spread of market relations, the westward movement of the population, and the rise of a vigorous political democracy. The same steamboats and canals that were used by millions of famers to send their goods to the markets, also facilitated the growth of the slave based cotton plantations in the South. While AIFS s revenues are denominated in American Dollars (USD), most of their costs are in foreign currencies as Euros (EUR) and British Pounds (GBP). Consequently, foreign exchange hedging has a crucial importance for the company because it provides protection against different types of risk that derive from its activity. The scenarios that we analyzed covers different positions of the dollar against the euro: weak dollar (USD 1,48/EUR), stable dollar (USD 1,22/EUR) and strong dollar (USD 1,01/EUR). Different coverage of costs with hedging was also introduced in the analysis. The three main policies are of not hedging, 100% hedging with forward contracts and 100% hedging with options. All the future computations are in comparison with the impact zero scenario of a rate of USD 1,22/EUR and a volume of 25 000 sales. Then why would you or anyone do an act that you know would hurt you or those around you? Why would a person smoke in a public place when they know it can cause them and their loved ones harm? This is one of many of the reasons why smokingshould be banned in public places. Before we get into the argument of whether smoking should be allowed in public places or not, we first need to identify a few items: the concept of smoking, the reasons people smoke, the government s involvement, and an alternative solution. First, let us answer the question of what is smoking? Smoking refers to the inhalation and exhalation of fumes from burning of tobacco in cigars, cigarettes and pipes (Smoking). It was first used in the 1500s by the natives of the Western Hemisphere for religious rituals and medicinal purposes (Smoking). The role of a woman was believed to be limited to domestic responsibilities until the onset of the feminist movement. The twentieth century became a time of social change for women that found a voice in art via paintings, portraits, and photography. With time, women became more visible in public life, and art became the reflection of not only their suffering, but their perseverance, courage, and strength. Freedom from the stereotypical chains of society for women was the message conveyed through the works of artists Alice Neel, Barbara Kruger, and Mary Kelly during the twentieth century. Realism in art was a movement in which artists works captured content in a natural way without artistic embellishment or implausibility. It was a direct reflection of what had been observed in the world through lenses that granted audiences a true to life view. Though the movement ended during the 1920 s, artists Alice Neel and Mary Kelly revived Realism to art through paintings and portraits. Along with this revival, came psychological insight into social and political issues of the twentieth Century, and move toward a different image of what it meant to be a businesswoman. The Effects Of Yellowstone Volcanic Complex On The World Introduction Yellowstone volcano is one of the most explosive, active silicic volcanic fields in the world and is classified as a super volcano . Its Late Quaternary history, in terms of ages, sizes and frequency of eruptions, has been well documented (Farrell et al., 2014). Understanding its properties will help us to better understand the hazards it poses, both now and in the future. As it is protected from geothermal energy or mineral exploration and development, Yellowstone provides a unique opportunity to research an undisturbed major volcanic system and the temporal and spatial changes that occur naturally (Hurwitz Lowenstern, 2014). This report discusses the history of Yellowstone volcanic complex over the past 2.1 million years, eruptive style, compositions, associated hazards and the structure of the magma chamber. In addition, we look at areas into which research is currently occurring or should in the future, and discuss a strategy for monitoring and forecasting of future activity. A genetically modified organism is living organisms whose genetic material has been artificially manipulated in a laboratory through genetic engineering. Although some see this as a bad thing, I personally feel that GMOs are safe and should be used routinely. Corn for example, is something that is used daily in the study of genetic modifications. One large example of the genetic modification is Bt corn. Corn has been around for many years and has served many useful purposes for humans. About eighty million acres are growing with corn crops (Capehart 1), Corn is an ingredient in a multitude of food and manufactured products such as starch, sweeteners, corn oil, drinking and rubbing alcohol (Capehart 1). The first genetically modified corn crop was planted in the United States in 1996 (Thomson 20). From 1996 to present day, the presence of genetically modified corn has increased considerably. The production of Bt corn occurs in five steps. The first step is removing the desired gene from the organism. This step is a highly restrictive step due to the inadequate amount of information known about certain genes needed to enhance the genetic makeup of plants (Romero 1).
