Metropolitan Airport Crisis Communication Plan
Big City, NC. Metropolitan Airport Crisis Communication Plan
As the chief communications officer of the Metropolitan Airport, I have previously developed a
proactive crisis communication plan in anticipation of an event such as the following: Long
Layover Airlines, had a plane filled with passengers stuck on the tarmac for four hours as the
thunderstorms passed. During the time the plane was stuck, a passenger had a severe stroke. The
terminal manager, citing airport policy, refused permission for the plane to link to a jet way and
deplane the passenger because of the possible lightning danger. While the passenger survived, he
will face months of therapy and rehab that could possibly have been avoided if the plane had been
allowed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
8. The spokespersons have been identified and notified of the crisis event and a communication
center is established. The chief executive officer of the airport, and the airline should be seen as
united front. 9. The updated crisis communication plan was recorded and sent to department heads,
organizational key members, and committee members to prepare for the crisis event. 10. Simulation
of this proactive crisis communication plan has been periodically implemented to ensure the
smooth operation of the communication plan in an unforeseen crisis. The communication team
members who needed coaching and technical assistance during these simulations are now trained
and ready. Each member of the crisis plan has identified his part of the brainstormed disaster plan
and simulated his part of the plan down to the smallest detail. The crisis communication plan has
had periodic updates (Zaremba, 2010). The image restoration theory may be beneficial to restore
the airlines image. Relationships with stakeholders, reputation, responsibility, and response are the
four Rs of this theory. The message that the company conveys in response to this crisis event is
important and some methods that the company employs will be more beneficial than others
(Zaremba, 2010, p. 246). The airport will need to take responsibility for the safety decisions that
were made by the terminal manager during this evolving crisis.

Genetically Modified Foods Argument Essay
One of the main concerns of today s generation is health. Many people are concerned with staying
fit, which means working out and eating healthy. Currently, today s generation is at a crossroad
between what is considered healthy and the price of being healthy. The biggest concern revolves
around Genetically Modified Organisms or GMOs. GMOs are scientifically modified foods or
hormones used to increase foodproduction and reduce the number of pesticides and disease a
crop or organism may be susceptible to. So what is the big concern? Consumers are wary of
eating the unknown. Many are scared to eat GMOs due to an irrational fear of disease.
Consumers tend to overreact about Genetically Modified foods without truly understanding the
purpose of GMOs. GMOs make up the many of the foods we eat today. In fact, Barlett Steele
reports that about 90 percent of soybeans, the main ingredient in almost all the foods we eat, are
genetically modified (p.821). Genetically modified seeds are also present in the foods farm
animals eat. The main producer of genetically modified seeds, Monsanto, has made seeds that are
resistant to a pesticide from the brand name Roundup. Roundup Ready Seeds has made farming
easier for farmers. A farmer can... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In animals, GMOs can be found in cows in the form of artificial hormones. Dairy cows are often
injected with a genetically modified hormone to encourage milk production. This chemical, rBGH
is proven to not be harmful to humans but can be harmful in animals because it speeds up their
metabolism and increases the cows chance of early death (Barlett Steele). This raises many debates
about artificial hormones. While these hormones do not affect humans, cows are severely affected
and injecting them with these hormones can be considered animal abuse. Ultimately, this debate is
settled by the consumers. Dairy farmers label their milk and it is up to the consumer to decide if
they want to use the milk or

Drug Testing and Ethics Essay
Camille Dickinson Business Ethics Module 5 November 27th 2010 Is drug testing an
unwarranted invasion of employee privacy? Which is more important getting drugs out of the
workplace or protecting the privacy of the employee? What about other health threatening
activities, i.e. smoking outside of working hours, unprotected sex, etc. Should employers be able
to question or test employees or potential employees about these activities? Both of these
scenarios are tricky ones. On the one hand, any employer would want to get drugs out of the
workplace. On the other hand you don t want to invade an employee s privacy. At the same time
some jobs may require employees to conform to a certain standard of behavior both on and off the
job,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My husband in his decision to fire Bruce was also acting partially from an egoist point of view
since an unemployed Bruce meant a sober Bruce which meant no trips to the ER which meant
that my husband wouldn t have to deal with a cursing, screaming, bloody drunk Bruce. At the
same time he was also acting from Kant s theory which states that Only when we act from a
sense of duty does our action have moral worth (Shaw amp; Barry, 2010 p69). My husband felt
that it was his duty as a member of the medical profession, not to enable a habit that could
possibly cause harm to an individual. A high incidence of false positive results in drug testing is
another reason for the argument that drug testing should not be used. In researching this paper I
was surprised to learn how many over the counter drugs can produce false positive results.
According to an article on The National Center for Biotechnology Information website entitled
Commonly prescribed medications and potential false positive urine drug screens published Aug
15th 2010, A number of routinely prescribed medications have been associated with triggering
false positive UDS results. Verification of the test results with a different screening test or
additional analytical tests should be performed to avoid adverse consequences for the patients.
Some of the more common drugs that could produce false positive results were

Persepolis Analysis
In Marjane Satrapi s graphic novel, Persepolis, the protagonist, Marji, faces hardships and
conflict as a woman in Iran. When discussing conflict that Marji faces, politics is one topic that
stands out the most. Growing up in a war torn and corrupt country, Marji is exposed to violence
at a young age and is forced to mature quickly. As she grows older she experiments during a
period of rebellion and temporarily leaves her home country in an effort to find herself. However,
much later, she circles back to Iranand comes home to the same crumbling and oppressive system
she has always resented. Even though Marji may change as she travels to new places, grows older,
and experiments with her self expression, her constant strife with the Islamic Regime s political
ideology remains.
Although Marji begins as an outspoken and confident young girl, she quickly has to adjust to
the harsh rules of society. Marji s first conflict arises when she is forced to wear a veil in school.
One frame shows her and all of her classmates playing different kinds of childish games with the
veils they were forced to wear. In one corner, a girl is jump roping with a veil, and in another
corner, two girls are faking an execution (Satrapi, 3, fr. 5). This is because Marji and her
classmates do not understand why they have veils and undermine the authoritative power by
playing with them. Although a small event in the novel, this mini revolt sets a precedent for
Marji s actions in response to the regime s rules as she grows older. Later in the story, she is
inspired to join the revolution and make a change after seeing her parents protesting. On one
night, an audacious Marji storms into her parents room and exclaims, I want to come with you
tomorrow! To demonstrate on the street. I am sick and tired of doing it in the garden. For a
revolution to succeed, the entire population must support it (Satrapi, 16 17). Marji s eloquent
words are that of someone who is willing to sacrifice his/herself to make change in a corrupt
system. In return for dealing with such heavy political issues, Marji is passionate about protesting
and expressing her disdain for the Iranian government. Though Marji eventually decides to leave
Iran for a short period of

The Importance Of Essential For Healthy Family Functioning...
According to Professor Rick Peterson, there are five essential roles essential to healthy family
functioning, they include providing resources, support and nurturing, development of life skills
(especially for young children), maintenance and management of the family system, and sexual
gratification between spouses. (Peterson and Green) In this section we re going to look at how
these are incorporated into the familys instrumental functioning and their expressive functioning.
Instrumental Functioning As stated earlier in the paper, this family is very set in old traditions.
EM stays home with the kids all day while RM goes to work. While at home EM cooks for the
kids, cleans the house, takes care of the dog, and makes sure the household runs smoothly. They
have decided to homeschool their children when they get a little older, so she is also preparing
information and supplies for that.
Since the kids don t go to daycare, EM has to make sure that they have some interaction
throughout the day, so she brings them on walks to the park. Their daily routine is waking up
and having EM cook everyone breakfast. She packs a lunch for RM and he grabs it before
heading out the door. Once the kids are done eating, EM starts cleaning the house and EJM and
HM are sent outside to play. Then comes lunch time, which according to EM is the craziest part
of the day! The kids are tired and crabby and there is still so much to do. After the kids are done

Violent Video Games Do Not Cause Gun Violence
The killings in Marshall County High School, Kentucky. The slaughters in Marjory Stoneman
Douglas High School, Florida. The shootings in Great Mills High School, Maryland. All of these
tragedies are results of gun violence. But gun violence cannot just occur out of nowhere; there has
to be a cause. Many people believe that violent video games are the direct cause of abusing the
power of guns. But research has proven that this is not true; violent video games do not cause the
actual school shootings.
In Japan, statistics show that 90% of all children ages 10 14 have video games in their houses. In
America, the statistics are the same, 90% of all children play video games [PDF]. Similarly, 95%
of all children in France ages 10 14 play video games [PDF]. In fact, Japan even has Call of Duty
and other violent video games in its top 50 most played video games [PDF]. For France, Call of
Duty and other such violent video games have even made it to the top 10 most played video games
of the year [PICTURE]. In 2014, only 6 people in Japan died of gun wounds, compared to the 33,
599 people that died in America [PDF]. So how is Japan and France not breaking out into a killing

Our Identity And Belonging Essay
We are driven by five genetic needs: survival, love and belonging, power, freedom, and fun,
although not everyone gets a chance to experience these things. Belongingness is the human
emotional need to be an accepted member of a group. Whether it is family, friends, co workers, or a
sports team, humans have an inherent desire to belong and be an important part of something
greater than them. The needto belong is the need to give and receive affection from others.
When I first cut my hair I felt like I was doing something for myself, doing something that I wanted.

Maybe the media is to blame, with all these skinny models on magazines that haven t changed.
Maybe it s because humans become comfortable with the familiar, and there seems to be a safe
pattern of life related with it. The doubt that comes with a new order brings discomfort. It is
human nature to seek comfort and security. You ve changed , after all this time of having long
hair perhaps is good to change ourselves a little and change society s opinion on belonging, but
in my perspective of change, I have not belonged. After I had realised that people around me
were judging my choices and making me into someone I was not, I felt the need to find
something that will make me belong, something or someone that will make me feel happiness
again. Unfortunately I still don t know what makes me happy to this day due to metal illnesses,
but there are little things that make me feel comfortable such as my favourite movies and recently
I found a new comfort in books. My mum still tells me that I d always belong to her no matter
what, so I have found a belonging with my mum and maybe I have found happiness with her, but I
still am unsure on what real belonging and happiness feels

The Pros And Cons Of Brexit Referendum
Brexit Could Be Britain s Stepping Stone to A Better Future The Brexit referendum has been a
very controversial topic for the past 6 months. The referendum option surfaced due to the changes
happening in the European Union as an organization. The European Union (EU), formerly known
as the European Coal and Steel Communities (ECSC), is originally created under the vision of
creating a trading agreement which ease the transaction between the members. However, the EU
now not only creates a single market system to ease the trading between members, but also holds
power over the member s government, parliament, and court. Before the crisis in 2008 which is

Essay on James Joyce s Dubliners
Dubliners
James Joyce wrote the book Dubliners; Joyce expresses many different types of emotions
throughout the book. The emotions portray individuals in society, and light and dark. The emotions
of individuals are examined throughout the stories by other members in society. The stories that
express the ideas are: The Encounter, Eveline , and The Dead. The symbolism of individuals in
society expresses many different situations that are happening in the characters lives. The
symbolism of light goes along with the idea of feeling happy and enjoying life. The theme of dark
shows the individuals fighting, and having a negative outlook on life.

The story of Eveline shows the images of the girl s past being the image of dark, and her future
the image of light. The promise made between her and her mother holds her back from moving
on with her life. She feels that she is confused with leaving or staying. She remembered the last
night of her mother s illness; she was again in the close dark room at the other side of the hall
and outside she heard a melancholy air of Italy (33). The feeling of being portrayed of being lost
between her past and her future. She wants more, but doesn t want to go against her mothers
wish. The story of Eveline gives different perspectives of the society. The society plays a major
factor in the roles of the characters with the decisions they make. She feels parted from her
family and the society puts a toll on her feelings. In her home anyway she had shelter and food;
she had those who she had known all her life about her (30). The life she used to have is different
than the life she wants to take with Frank. Frank feels pressured to make the right decisions to
make him look good in the society. Eveline expresses how much the society has an impact on the
individuals and how they interact with each other.
The confusion of the Dead shows many different images of the themes of light and dark. The
images show the characters feelings at harsh,

Fahrenheit 451 Should Be Banned

Organisational Structure Is a More Effective Focus of Hrm
1. Introduction
Human Resource Management (HRM) has become an integral and growing area in most
business sectors, regardless of how big, or small the company or firm is. Moreover,
company s today rely heavily on HRM practices to function at peak Organisational level and
also sustain a high level of competitiveness, stability, employee satisfaction, and the overall
well being of the organisation. So where should the focus of HRM activity be? The statement

For Organisational Structure to function effectively it must have appropriate staff to manage it,
a common concern for HR managers. The management style of the organisation has a big
impact on how the firm operates and effectively on the decision making process,
communication and the overall functionality of the firm. Here, HRM activity plays a vital role
in ensuring effective interaction and understanding of two way communication both from
senior level management down the structure to lower lever subordinates and from subordinates
back to senior management. Communication is again the key to a successful organisation,
without it there is little or no interaction between work groups, which could predominantly
lead to a unorganized and dysfunctional organisation. (Gowland and Aiken, 2003, p.43) believe
there is a strong need for a structure that is pro active rather than reactive in its management
style , that encourages independent decision making and places emphasis on high levels of
communication.
If there happens to be a problem within the organisation, structural modifications may not
be the most appropriate means of correcting it. Within an organisation there is structure, but
flowing through this structure is Organisational Culture. These customs, beliefs, practices,
traditions, values and ideologies ( Nankervis, Compton and Baird, 2002, p. 57 ) set,

Abuse Of Power In King Henry
People gain power through acts of honor, effective leaders take action and help others on the other
hand some lie to attain power and use it to benefit themselves and their cores. King Henry the fourth
written by Shakespeare revolutionized the way in which play are written and presented through
iambic pentameter allowing the playto consistently have ten syllables per line allowing the play to
run smoother. A few good men directed by Rob Reiner in 1992 presents a story of injustice as

The Working Poor
The working poor are those people that work the hardest for their dollar, work the hardest to get
their paychecks, work the hardest to survive. Most of the working poor live paycheck to paycheck
and like the saying goes, robbing from Peter to pay Paul. There is a way out of poverty, and there is
a way for these struggling individuals to escape the perils of their life in poverty. It is not an easy
road out, but it is possible. It is important for those that are born into this lifestyle to know that this
is not a destination; there is hope that they will live a so called better life.

Gabourey Sidibe and Jennifer Hudson are a few stars that are heard about as going from nothing
to everything. You do not have to be a star to be able to escape from poverty though. There are
many programs that are available to individuals to assist them in finding employment and
assistance to get out of poverty. The programs that are available are reliant on the presidents and
law makers that are lobbied. The Bush administration had been wildly criticized for not being
responsive to the needs of the poorest Americans, (Burger, 2008, p. 20). At times an individual
just needs help in getting shown the right direction. Isolated in the projects, many like Camellia
lack the encouragement and connections to find decent work until a helping hand gives a push or
opens a door, (Shipler, 2004, p. 123). To be able to break out of poverty an individual must not be
afraid to leave.
Personal reaction conclusion Poverty is not something that effects just a certain population; it is
non discriminative. The working poor are the heart of America. They are people that we see
every day. For those that are living this way, it is important to know that there is a way out. In

Despair In A Clean Well-Lighted Place
Mallory Cox Period 3 12/17/2015 Comp 1 Despair, Loneliness, and Nothingness In Ernest
Hemingway s A Clean, Well Lighted Place he uses the struggle of dealing with despair to show
the hardships that the characters are facing. The old man that the waiter s guess is about 80
years old has attempted in many ways to deal with despair. He had a wife, but he does not
anymore. He has money, but the money is enough to deal with what he is feeling. The older
waiter also knows that the old man has attempted suicide. The mans niece saved him from
committing suicide, which once again does not save him from the despair that he is feeling. In
the beginning of the short story the younger waiter and the older waiter are watching an older
deaf man. They conclude that the older man likes the night time, but the younger waiter does not
get what the older waiter and the man understand and feel about night time. The older man that
sits under the shadows coming from a tree taps his glass to the saucer on his table indicating that
he wants more. He asks for Brandy. The servers watch him carefully because they know that if he
gets too drunk, he will not pay. The younger waiter is happy, young, and confident. The older
waiter tells the younger waiter that he is lucky and he has much more than he could ever have. The
younger waiter cluelessly tells the older man that he can not have any more brandy when he asks...

He replaces most words with nada . This to me shows that the older waiter maybe isn t so scared
of other things in the world, but very scared of the feeling of nothingness and of despair. He prays
to nothing about nothing which shows to me that he is very concerned about the feeling of nothing
. Despair is when someone has the complete absence of hope. That to me definitely shows that the
older waiter is fearful of loneliness and of the feeling of

Olympic Pride Does Not Permit Sexual Discriminaiton
It matter not who you love, where you love, why you love, when you love or how you love, it
matters only that you love (John Lennon). LGBTQ; a growing cause that has been heard by many
people across the globe, Gay marriage and equality is no longer just a farfetched idea but has
become a reality for many nations across the world who have accepted and legalized the acceptance
of LGBTQ community members within society. Some have accepted while other fought against
this notion of legalization, though many citizens have come to terms with this new ideology that
has been incorporated within modern society. Although members of the LGBTQ society and the
thousands that accept the community have protested and gathered together to fight for the equality
of all nations there is still some that do not agree with this notion. Protestors yelling, news reporters
capturing the seen for people millions of miles away, and discrimination could be found at the 2014
Winter Olympic Gameslocated in Sochi, Russia. This year s Olympic Games were on the bounds of
discrimination against the LGBTQ community not just from Russia s own citizens but
discrimination towards many visiting athletes from the 200 nations that participated in the games.
The LGBTQ community has fought many battles over the past few decades, fighting for their right
for equality, their right to liberty and their right to even be allowed to love the person they want to
love. The Olympics is the time where countries put

The Problem Of Self State
Conscious state according to dictionary.com is being aware of one s own existence these may
involve thoughts, sensations (images, aches, pain, visual, auditory and tactual sensation etc.).
Smart refuses to admit to the fact that sensations are irreducibly psychical because of Occam s
razor (which suggests that such matters should not even be put into consideration). He affirms
there is no philosophical argument that compels us to be dualist, he writes I am in pain is a
genuine report, and that what it reports is an irreducibly psychical something (Adler and Elgin
384). From this context he believes that by claiming one is in pain one is reporting something,
which is over and above, (something unexplainable beyond the human... Show more content on

we should also involve conscious state as well. He thinks of sensations as dispositions towards a
certain types of stimulus/temptation. He reduced behaviours to dispositions and he classified them
as being brain processes an example he gives an example of New Zealanders and the English who
both refer to Venus when one group refers to it as Morning Star and the other as Evening Star his
aims is to show that sensations may be similar but with different physical phenomenon. For
example two people may be identical in their appearances but might have different properties. The
question might be asked, that even if sensations are identical with brain processes, are there not
introspected non physical properties of sensations that are not identical with properties of brain
processes? (Identity theory) . To dispel this thought smart adopts topic neutral a narrower sense of
being neutral to dualism and physicalism (Identity theory). If sensations are caused by physical
/material things for example light the question based on this belief is whether sensations are
material or immaterial from the given example above (Identity theory). Putnam admits to a lot of
claims made by Smart, they both share similar views on identifying pain and other mental states
with brain processes. Putman begins by disagreeing with philosophers who maintain that pain states
are brain states, and he calls this claim unintelligible. He goes

Toyota has introduced new technologies including one of the first mass produced hybrid gas
electric vehicles, of which it says it has sold 1 million globally (2007 06 07) [16], Advanced

Stratification In The 1920 s
In the 1920 s the United States government implemented a new and radical legislation referred to as
prohibition that changed the lives of american adults. This new bill consisted of outlawing
intoxicating beverages throughout the United States and having them regulated by the Federal
Government. In every community the response to this new bill varied. For instance, in 1920 I
believe the individuals who resided in my hometown Yardley, Pennsylvania would have been able
to obtain alcohol illegally through operations known as saloons. Similar to society today,
stratification , is extremely important social factor and truly affects the amount of law one may
receive (Black, 11) .
Through my own personal observations I have found Yardley, Pennsylvania to be a prosperous
community that not only works together but, also has an immense amount of pride. For example,
one particular aspect that I noticed in my hometown is how ... Show more content on

An important factor that supports my argument is the fact that, drinking and purchasing alcohol
is a victimless crime (Black). The crime involves a downward vertical direction and also has ,
less serious and a very low deviance . So under Blacks circumstances of justice this was a
downward situation of law and would entail for a less serious punishment. Another prime aspect
that would cause Smedely to be unsuccessful is the socioeconomic status of individuals in the
community. Black stated in his article that, law varies directly with rank (Black, 17) . In our
society rank is directly influenced by wealth and social status so I believe that since individuals in
my town are upper middle class they would be able to use their statutes to avoid legal issues.
According, to, blacks theories this circumstance would be defined as downward law which is not
as serious as upward law . (Black ,

John Bowlby And Human Development
John Bowlby studied human development as a result of human attachment. After observing
toddlers who were left by their parents in a hospital, he realized that children have an emotional
response to the absence of their primary caregiver. Bowlby suggested that the toddlers who cry out
for their parents are not exhibiting disobedience (which hospital personal presumed), but rather a
natural distress brought on by ethology (Crain, 2011). Bowlby noted that animals exhibit
behaviors in order to stay close to their parents. These behaviors, such as, vocalizing a distress call
are called attachment behaviors (Crain, 2011). The toddlers that were separated from their parents
in the hospitals engaged in similar behaviors. The objective of the child

Character Development Of Hamlet
Hamlet s character drastically develops over the first four acts of Hamlet, and his character
development is most evident through the soliloquys he delivers throughout the play. The most
character development can be seen from the first soliloquy, to the second, the third, the sixth, and
the seventh and final soliloquy. Hamlets inner conflict with his thoughts and his actions are well
analyzed in his soliloquys, as well as his struggles with life and death, and his very own
existence. He begins the play wondering what purpose he has in life now that his father is dead
and his mother has remarried to his uncle. After finding out foul play was involved in his father s
death, he is motivated by revenge. Finally, he wonders how he can enact his revenge while
continuously overthinking and overanalyzing his actions. In Act I, scene II, Hamlet delivers his
first soliloquy after his mother and new step dad/uncle Claudius try to convince him to get over
the death of his father, and to accept their rather hasty marriage. In his first soliloquy, Hamlet
questions whether or not he should kill himself, and curses God for making suicide a sin.
Hamlet is also fixated on his mother s rushed marriage to his uncle, not even a month after his
father s death. Hamlet says, A little month, or ere those shoes were old/with which she followed
my poor father s body (Lines 146 147). He is very hooked on the fact that his mother wore the
same shoes to her wedding as she did to her husband s funeral, not even having time in between
to break the shoes in. Hamlet wishes he could say whatever he wants and express his disgust
about his mother s marriage and his hatred for his uncle, but since his uncle is the reigning King
of Denmark, he has to hold his tongue and show respect for the king. This first soliloquy
introduces the reader to Hamlet s indecisiveness and over analytical mindset. Hamlet is confronted
by the ghostly figure of his father in Act I, scene V. Hamlet s father informs him that he had been
murdered by Claudius. King Hamlet tells his son to avenge his death, but doesn t specify how.
King Hamlet also tells Hamlet to leave his mother out of the revenge plot, as King Hamlet believes
Claudius seduced Queen Gertrude. King

My Family At Toys R Us For Her Daughter s 8th Birthday
When I visited my Aunt in Concord not too far outside of the San Francisco, I accompanied her
in buying a present at Toys R Us for her daughter s 8th birthday. When entering the store it gave a
very exciting and bright atmosphere. The colors were very vibrant with shelves upon shelves of
different types of toys. The colors at the front seemed to have a combination of all the different
colors and seemed to keep a neutral environment. The store had many places for kids to wonder
such as a video game section, different toy sections that were separated into types of toys, and the
older kid sections which included bikes, scooters, tri wheelers, and push carts which were just for
the parents to use to push their toddlers around.

This obviously is to intrigue the boy who shows interest in explosions and people fighting off
monsters to save the Earth. For the bigger toys in these sections, I noticed that the toys meant for
boys had many toys that suggested they should pretend to be different super heroes. In this section
even though many heroins had similar colors to the men, there were no girl super heroes in this
section despite having many batman and superman toys.
When walking into the girl isles of the toy store, the type of toys completely changed. When
walking in the isles I noticed that the colors obviously changed to pink and purple. The type of
toys in these isles completely contrasted the toys meant for the boys. Toys meant for girls usually
comprised of barbie dolls, flowers, and many color books of princesses. Most toys in this section
suggested tea parties and playing house. Many of the toys also promoted little girls to wear
aprons and to bake cookies and other meals for fun. One of the interesting things about this isle
however were how they had more Life size toys than the boys. The life size toys were usually
barbie dolls where they could dress up the toy in the girls actual clothing to see what the barbie
doll would look like. Another thing that I noticed was that most of the toys were very similar to
one another because the girl isles comprised of different types of dolls rather than

The winter season is the worst of seasons. This is my opinion and it s strong. I am not sure if it s

Atmospheric System Essay
Low pressure atmospheric systems have more of a short term impact than high pressure
systems. Discuss. Low pressure atmospheric systems are also known as depressions or cyclones
and they form in mid and high latitudes. They are formed by the mixing of cold and warm air,
the warm air is lighter, so it rises above the denser, cold air and forms a centre of low pressure.
High pressure atmospheric systems are also known as anticyclones and have very different
characteristics to depressions. Anticyclones are large masses of subsiding air, which produces high
pressure at the surface. There are a variety of difference between anticyclones and depressions,
including the weatherconditions, the length of time they last and the impact they... Show more

The impacts of anticyclones and depressions vary, as does the period they remain and the effect
they have. The North American blizzard of 2003 lasted for five days throughout February and
occurred on the East Coast of the USA and Canada. It was a record breaking blizzard, which
caused 27 deaths and over $14 million worth of damage. The cities in America were bought to a
standstill, as there was a range of 38 76cm of snow covering the ground. The cause for such an
unusually extreme blizzard was the fact that the conditions were favourable, with moisture from the
Atlantic Ocean enhancing precipitation and a high pressure system over Canada, allowing cold air
to be brought down coastal areas. This meant that the precipitation was mainly snow, hence the
record breaking statistics. The effects this storm had were mainly short term, but the roof of the
historic Railroad Museum collapsed and 27 people lost their lives. Additionally, transport
infrastructure was brought to a halt, and three major airports were also closed.
So, the impacts of depressions are mainly short term, although the destruction can be horrendous,
whereas, anticyclones usually cause long term impacts on a country such as the Drought in Britain
and Europe in 2003. This drought effected many locations, but the main focus was on the UK,
France and Portugal. Not all impacts are negative, as the heat wave did boost the tourist industry in
most countries and sales for summer items such as

Farmer Saw The Wolf
English syntax makes it a more analytic as opposed to Japanese where word order is not so
important as the affixes of words so reordering of a sentence can still have the same meaning
even if they sound funny unlike in English where word order is the de facto method of easy
communication (Freeman Freeman, 2014, p. 194). In Finnegan (2015), the sentence: The
farmer saw the wolf is used to show how word order can explain why syntax is so important in
English; English is an SVO language or a language that predetermines where words go in a
sentence for the purpose of clear meaning, SVO stands for Subject Verb Object, whereas many
languages can be SVO or even VOS or VSO, with the knowledge that S, V, and O always stand
for Subject, Verb, and Object (Language: its structure and use, p. 57). Latin in the sentence
mentioned in the prior sentence would be able to switch the SVO around to almost any order;
Spanish is in the language family of Latin and so The farmer saw the wolf can be said as El
granjero vio al lobo , SVO, or Al lobo el granjero vio , OSV, or Vio al lobo, el granjero , VOS
(Finegan, 2015, p. 57). Furthermore, it is apparent that English syntax, or the study of sentence
structures is synonymous with much of the study of English grammar; Syntax in a reductive
explanation is the study of sentence structure (Finegan, 2015, p. 178). In chapter 1 of Curzan
(2003), theoretically, the evolution of English has eliminated its use of grammatical genderand this

How The Tetrahydrocannabinol And Its Effect On Pilots
On the 7th of January 2012, a hot air balloon flying over Carterton New Zealand hit powerlines
whilst trying to land, it then caught fire and crashed just north of the town killing all 11
passengers. At first it was believed to be a general crash and the pilot made a mistake of trying
to fly over the powerlines instead of dropping below them. The Pilots body was analysed for any
odd signs, they found Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) in his system, meaning he was under the
influence of cannabis during the time of the crash which influenced him to make the decision
that caused the problem and took 11 lives. The day was normal, the 11 passengers (Ann Dean,

phone in her hand. The SUV was completely wrecked and I didn t know the condition of the
driver. I saw a California Highway Patrol Officer who must have seen the whole thing because he
was driving down the other side traffic lights blazing, calmly speaking through his radio for backup.
My mom left to inspect the damage, while me and my brothers were sweating profusely in the
summer heat, I cracked my door open to allow colder air to circulate. The sounds of speeding cars
off the highway drowned out voices outside. I wanted to get out and get closer to the SUV, but I
was afraid of being told to go back by CHP officers.
Not long after I hear my mom s voice coming closer with a cop a not far behind, writing in his
notebook. Then they come into view mom showing officer the damage to the windshield. That
made him write furiously in the notebook taking in every detail. Another Officer came by and

Why Did The Vietnam War Began Essay
Do you know how the Vietnam War started? Technically the war was never declared a war so the
Vietnam War should be called the Vietnam conflict. The United States got involved in this mess as
early as 1950. Most of the men in the Vietnam War knew what they were getting into because most
of them volunteered. The countries in the Vietnam war were The United States, South Vietnam,
China, Viet Cong and North Korea. South Vietnam s main ally was the United States. North Korea
s main ally was the Viet Cong. North Vietnam was backed by all the communist countries like the
Soviet Union and The Republic of China so North Vietnam were The Bad Guys as some people
would call them. South Vietnam was backed by all the non communist countries like Australia and
the United States. North and South Vietnam had large differences in the way they ran their country.
That is one of the reasons the war was started.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The United States began its involvement in Vietnam as early as the year 1950. In spite of the U.S.
economic and military aid, South Vietnamese government in general and the Army of the Republic
of Vietnam in particular did not show that they were capable of handling the Viet Cong. At the time
when the U.S. had failed to stop communist expansion in Eastern Europe, China, Korea and lately
Cuba, Vietnam immediately became another place of concern. In October 1961, after many
successful Viet Cong s attacks, U.S leader of defense recommended sending six divisions of the
United States Army to Vietnam. On July 27, 1964 the United States sent an additional 5,000
military advisors to South Vietnam increasing the total American advisors in Vietnam to 21,000.
On August, 7 1964 the Gulf Of Tonkin incident occurred which gave The United States the power

Cerebral Palsy In Children
There are several physical disabilities a child could have such as muscular dystrophy, spina bifida,
and cerebral palsy. However, the most common physical disability in children is cerebral palsy (
Facts ). Cerebral palsy is a disease that affects infants and children. It is a disorder of movement,
posture, and/or muscle tone usually caused by brain damage either before or soon after birth.
There are a variety of signs of cerebral palsy, oral problems as a result of this disease, and other
interesting facts.
Symptoms of this disease include extreme muscle variations such as the individual being too stiff
or too floppy, lack of muscle coordination, difficulty eating or speaking, as well as tremors and/or
involuntary movements. Several problems ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Individuals with cerebral palsy are most likely unable to talk because of the common symptom of
having much difficulty hearing. Cerebral palsy is unfortunately also a life long disease and, in
some cases, the disability may increase with age. In addition to this, cerebral palsy can also affect
different parts of the body such as the hemiplegia (either the left or right body half), diplegia
(lower body half), or quadriplegia (the whole body). 39% of individuals with cerebral palsy are
affected in the hemiplegia area, a close 38% are affected in the diplegia area, while 23% of them
are affected throughout their whole body. Infants that are born prematurely have a 10% chance of
developing cerebral palsy sometime during or soon after their birth while infants that were born
between 28 31 weeks have a 5% chance of developing this disease

Review of Magnetotactic Bacteria and Magnetosomes
Magnetotactic bacteria are a group of prokaryotes of varying morphologies. The morphologies
include coccoid, helical, multicellular, rod shaped, and vibriod1. Magnetotactic bacteria were first
discovered by Salvatore Bellini in 1963 2. The commonality of all members of magnetotactic
bacteria is that they passively orient and swim along the geomagnetic field by means of a method
called magnetotaxis. The ability to swim along the geomagnetic field is made possible by an
organelle that all magnetotactic bacteria have, called the magnetosome 3. Other commonalities that
magnetotactic bacteria share is that they are all gram negative bacteria, are motile by means of
flagella, exhibit negative growth responses to atmospheric oxygen, and metabolize substrates via
respiration 4. All magnetotactic bacteria are either microaerophiles anaerobes, or facultatively
anaerobic aerophiles 3. This paper is designed to provide a summary of the structure, synthesis,
function, distribution, and potential uses of magnetosomes, as well as discuss current issues facing
magnetosome research and application.
Structure
Magnetotactic bacteria typically mineralize iron oxide or iron sulphide magnetosomes. The iron
oxide magnetosomes contain crystals of magnetite (Fe3O4) 5 and the iron sulphide magnetosomes
are composed of crystals of greigite (Fe3S4) 6. Of note, magnetite is the more studied form of

Of Means And Ends Saul Alinsky Summary
I was particularly struck by Saul Alinsky when he discoursed about people who demand for
change but do nothing about it. Alinsky had a particular contention on the issue of means and
ends, or in the terminology of informal education, on process and product. He was certainly
aggravated by people who would not take action to uphold their principles. I would like to quote
from chapter Of Means and Ends in Rules for Radicals, He who sacrifices the mass good for his
personal conscience has a peculiar conception of personal salvation ; he doesn t care enough for
people to be corrupted for them . This made me question my own values and principles, and
encouraged me to not only demand for change, but to establish concrete actions. The radical
reasons that were employed by Alinsky in said chapter were the ones that captured me most.
Ethical and philosophical discourses about what is right or wrong often leave open ended
questions in my mind. To say that something is right or wrong, one may follow some code of
ethics, (e.g. law of God, etc.). One argument might seem ethical for someone, but it is unethical for
another one. Meanwhile, I agree with what Alinsky... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This contention of Ainsky contradicts that of Freire, I think. They view things differently. As for
me, I do not completely agree with Alinsky s contentions on ends and means because I find it
rather opposite to my own personal values. Alinsky seems to evaluate actions merely by their
ends, and is so assured of the morality of those ends that he is willing and ready to rationalize
almost any means. This contention of him is somehow troubling because I think that certain means
are never justified, no matter what their ends are. For example, the murder of an innocent person
could never be justified even if it is for the welfare of someone else s

Due to the fact that the internal integration of good trade was accomplished with the creation of the
customs union, the Common Commercial Policy was used in order to formulate general rules
concerning all aspects of external good trade. In order to avoid the distortion of internal trade or
competiveness conditions, it has become imperative that the CCP extended to all directives
concerning trading of good with other states, like border evaluation and customs duties, and these
needed to be interpreted in such a way that the intra EU commerce would not be disturbed. Needless
to say, the European Union represents all its member states within GATT and has been singing
important commercial bilateral agreements with other states. Once the World Trade Organization
was created in 1995, the rules of international trade changed significantly, and therefore, the CCP
had to change as well. WTO has brought about a far more rigorous institutional framework for
international good trade and has set international rules concerning services and intellectual
property right. Thus, the General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS) and Trade Related
Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS) became one with GATT and all the WTO
members were required to subscribe to all three of them. The Lisbon Treaty signed in December

Suppose a bottle of French wine is priced in France at 1000 Euros. If the e = $1/€, the cost to an
American is €1000 x ($1 / €) = $1000.
Conclusion: __________________ . If the Euro appreciates ($ depreciates), will the French wine be
more or less expensive? __________________ Proof: if e = $1.20 / €, the cost to an American is
€1000 x ($1.20 / € ) = $1200. If the Euro depreciates ($ appreciates), will the French wine be

currency movements.

that the Yen could weaken over the next six months, dollar strengthen. RISK FOR EXPORTER:
They are receiving a fixed amount of foreign currency in the future, they are worried about the
foreign currency getting weaker in the future, meaning fewer dollars in the future for the sale of the
exported product.
What can importers/exporter do about currency risk?
1. Negotiate the contract in domestic currency ($).
2. Wait and see. Take the risk of using spot market at time of delivery, and hope for a favorable ex
rate movement.
3. Lock in a forward ex rate today with a forward contract, either for the entire amount (full hedge)
or for a portion of the total (partial hedge).
Example: Importer needs to buy Yen in six months. He/she can buy Yen forward today at the 6
month forward rate, and lock in a guaranteed ex rate now for when the contract is due in 6
months. Locking in an ex rate locks in a cost of the imported product in US dollars. If they

Medication Errors Common Type Of Medical Error
Medication errors commonly occur in healthcare facilities. According to the Joint Commission,
these medication errors are believed to be the most common type of medical error and are a
significant cause of preventable adverse events (The Joint Commission, 2008). Many experts agree
with the research that medication errors have the potential to cause harm within the pediatric
population about three times as higher than in the adult population. This is due to medication
dosing errors that are weight based dosing calculations, fractional dosing, and misplacement of the
decimal point that can lead to overdosing or under dosing (The Joint Commission, 2008). Children
are at greater risk than adults for medication errors because they have an immature physiology as
well as developmental limitations that affect their ability to communicate and self administer
medications (The Joint Commission, 2008). Another important factor is that the great majority of
medications are developed in concentrations appropriate for adults; therefore, pediatric indications
and dosage guidelines often aren t included with a medication, necessitating weight based dosing or
dilution (The Joint Commission, 2008). The need to alter the original medication dosage requires a
series of pediatric specific calculations and tasks, each significantly increasing the possibility of
error (The Joint Commission, 2008). Additionally, an observation of safety regulations and
practices by Nemours Children s

X-Ray Research Papers
Using X rays for medical imaging is one of the most useful pieces of medical technology
available when trying to determine and locate, the type and severity of a particular injury. X rays
are a form of electromagnetic radiation similar to visible light. However, unlike visible light x
rays can pass through most objects, including the body (NIBIB, n.d). The radiation hits a detector
on the other side of the patient and the image produced is a shadowed representation of the tissues
and structures in the body (NIBIB, n.d). However, due to the type of radiation being superimposed
over the body it is worrying knowing that this form of radiation can, in some cases, cause some very
life threatening mutations. The term used to describe the effective... Show more content on

A translocation is when segments in chromosomes, and the genes they contain, change location.
This translocation can occur a segment of the chromosome breaking off and re joining at another
location (Cancer quest). The ionizing radiation can cause cells to die, but sometimes it can lead to
cancer later on. The amount of damage caused in the cell is related to the dose, frequency, a
position on the body in which the x ray is taking place determines the extenet to which thesse
mutations can occur. The damage can take place in a matter of seconds or it can take years to
develop. (American Cancer Society)
Sub issue 2: What other side effects can x rays have? Not only does the radiation cause
mutations and further, other related illnesses, the process itself and other process related to the
conduction of an x ray can result in side effects. When taking x rays, doctors can inject with a
contrast dye to help improve the quality of the images. However, this dye, which contains iodine,
can cause some side effects (e.g. nausea, itching and hives) (Krans, B. n.d.). The iodine injection
can also cause pre existing kidney issues to worsen further, which can ultimately result in the
failure of kidneys. (Inside radiology, 2009) Sub Issue 3: Is there an equally cost effective and
efficient way to produce medical

Napoleon Bonaparte And His Power
Napoleon Bonaparte was a great leader until he took his power too far. He helped France get out
of their debt and also won multiple territories from winning wars. He continued to strengthen
France with his great leadership and military strategies. Eventually, though, he began to abuse
his power. He proceeded through a war, without forfeit and experienced a great defeat. During
his time of power Napoleon was a paradox. Napoleon s fall from being a great leader taught us
that, sometimes when people get too used to having so much power and authority, they may
abuse their powers to a large extent. At the beginning of his reign, Napoleon entered France s
governmental system while France was in a huge debt from The Revolution, and the aftermath of
King Louis IVI. But Napoleon quickly fixed this problem for France. To help organize finances
in the government, he created two new bodies: the Ministry of Finance and the Treasury. In one of
the only wise moves the Directory (the previous governing body of France) ever made, the
assignats began to be recalled and franc reintroduced. This was finished under Napoleon, and the
affect was that people now had reliable money. (Finances) With him being able to make such a huge
difference in such little time, he was gaining attention and authority, from the people of France.
After so many years of France going through debt, he fixed it in a short matter of time. This began
to strengthen France again, making them more powerful, along with

Viking Raiders Essay
Beginning in about A.D. 800, many Scandinavians sailed south from their homelands to seek their
fortunes. These seafaring warriors began by raiding coastal sites of the British Isles but soon grew
more ambitious. During the next three centuries, they left their mark as traders, pirates and settlers
on much of Britain and the European continent. These raiders became known collectively as
Norsemen, or Northmen, though they are better remembered by another name: Vikings.
Most Vikings came from the regions of Scandinavia now known as Denmark, Norway and Sweden.
However, they were not united by race or nationality. To the people they raided, the Vikings shared
several common features. They were great sailors, ferocious fighters, and hailed from ... Show more

alone or even desperate for protection.
By the mid 800s, the lands of Ireland, Scotland and England were attracting Viking settlers as well
as raiders. Viking settlers founded Ireland s first trading towns, including Dublin and Limerick.

Sense And Sensibility In The Novel By Jane Austen
Sense and Sensibility written by Jane Austen is a novel that does not only deal with two sister s
love matters, but how two dissimilar personalities respond to society and love. The theme of
society vs. sense is existed throughout the novel because it is concerned with the ruling of one s
feelings, or the incapability to do so. Declaring love for someone, nurturing one s self and not
caring what people think is important in expressing this kind of social duty. (Pam Morris, 43) This
kind of theme is always present, with some dramatization, within Emma Thompson s 1995 film
adaption. Literary critic Deborah Kaplan argues that Thompson s film adaption demonstrates
harlequinization , where the narrative structure of the mass market structure , where a lot of
people really like them, it focuses on a hero and a heroin s courtship at the expense of the other
characters and experiences. Kaplan is stating that the film is negative because some characters are
underrepresented. She s right, but at the same time it is to be expected because it is a film
adaption. I argue that Kaplan is right, the film adaption does demonstrate this harlequinization to
the point where it ignores all the important scenes within the novel such as how the Dashwood
sisters are represented, Marianne s rescuers Willoughby and Colonel Brandon in contrast to the
novel. With all of Jane Austen s novels, Sense and Sensibilitygives the readers an insight of the
personal lives of nineteenth century women, Marianne and Elinor Dashwood are the examples
of heroines, sisters with dissimilar personalities. Marriage is a way to alter wealth for women, it
is always a central theme within Austen s novels. In the novel, the Dashwood women are left
poor because the fortunes of their father was inherited by their brother. The women leave their
home and move to a home in Devonshire which belongs to John Middleton, who is Mrs.
Dashwood s cousin. This is what introduces possible suitors for the two eldest Dashwood sisters,
Marianne and Elinor. Edward Ferrars and Elinor fall in love and Marianne falls for John
Willoughby. In the film, the Dashwood sisters seen as so poor after their father passed away. For
example, in one scene, the Dashwood women cannot

The Nationalistic Portrayals Of American

Olympic Athletes in the U.S. Sport Media There is arguably no other international event in the

most prominent media event in the world capturing the attention of billions of people around the
globe on a recurring basis (Walters Murphy, 2008). Zaharopoulos (2007) noted that now that
billions of people view the Olympic Games on television, it has become a shared experience of

Sporting events such the Olympics start the spreading of national identity and nationalism, and
what kinds of nationalism they promote (Hargreaves, 2002). Olympic sport has occasionally been
employed to promote narratives concerning national ideals and values (Milford, 2012).
American nationalism has been apparent in the modern Olympics since its inception in 1896
(Larson Park, 1993). The U.S. sent its first team, made up of the Boston Athletic Association and
Princeton University, to the inaugural 1896 Olympic Games in Athens and one of a few nations to
send a team to all of the early Olympic Games, third being held in St. Louis in 1904 (Brownell,
2005). The leaders of the American Olympic movement saw opportunities to define American ideals
concerning about physical culture, to make sport an integral part in national self definition, and
demonstrate the superiority of the American social and political structure (Dyresson, 1998). In
these early games, the U.S. sport media created scripts to the American public that taught the values
of athletic performance in the Olympics to better understand their own nation and other nations as
well. The media portrayed American athletes in these Olympic Games as protagonists in a struggle
to win against other nations of the world who ultimately wanted to destroy the United States
(Dyresson, 1996). After the U.S. Olympic team had the highest

What Is Gran Canaria Nightlife Essay
Gran Canaria Nightlife: Where to Party and Staying Safe
Gran Canaria nightlife is one of the paradise island s strongest draws. Though it s hardly one of
the reasons why you would go there, it s something you would want to experience. The urbanised
capital of Las Palmas has a number of bars and disco areas. The same can be said to the resort town
of Maspalomas which is also a well known party centre.
Before you strap on your disco shoes and order your martinis, there are a few things you would
want to know about beforehand. There are a few must visit spots, as well as a few observances.
Here are some of which:

sitting. Do it in moderation and be sure not to drink to the point of passing out.
Have a designated driver. When going out with friends, have someone close to you take the car
keys to bring you back to your hotel or apartment. You can always flag a taxi, but it s always best
to have someone you know.
Watch what you drink. This is especially if you don t know who you re talking with. Keep your
eyes on your drinks, but don t do it to the point of being paranoid.
Gran Canaria s nightlife is pretty vibrant and you would want to experience it for yourself. Just
take note that events don t start until midnight. If you re in Las Palmas, spend some time in
Plaza de Espana, or the Paper Club and the El Gallinero Cafe Arte. Moreover, there are also some
good spots in Maspalomas. Finally, it would be best to keep yourself safe by drinking in
moderation, having an assigned driver, and by being wary of what you put in your lips.

  • 2. Metropolitan Airport Crisis Communication Plan Big City, NC. Metropolitan Airport Crisis Communication Plan As the chief communications officer of the Metropolitan Airport, I have previously developed a proactive crisis communication plan in anticipation of an event such as the following: Long Layover Airlines, had a plane filled with passengers stuck on the tarmac for four hours as the thunderstorms passed. During the time the plane was stuck, a passenger had a severe stroke. The terminal manager, citing airport policy, refused permission for the plane to link to a jet way and deplane the passenger because of the possible lightning danger. While the passenger survived, he will face months of therapy and rehab that could possibly have been avoided if the plane had been allowed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 8. The spokespersons have been identified and notified of the crisis event and a communication center is established. The chief executive officer of the airport, and the airline should be seen as united front. 9. The updated crisis communication plan was recorded and sent to department heads, organizational key members, and committee members to prepare for the crisis event. 10. Simulation of this proactive crisis communication plan has been periodically implemented to ensure the smooth operation of the communication plan in an unforeseen crisis. The communication team members who needed coaching and technical assistance during these simulations are now trained and ready. Each member of the crisis plan has identified his part of the brainstormed disaster plan and simulated his part of the plan down to the smallest detail. The crisis communication plan has had periodic updates (Zaremba, 2010). The image restoration theory may be beneficial to restore the airlines image. Relationships with stakeholders, reputation, responsibility, and response are the four Rs of this theory. The message that the company conveys in response to this crisis event is important and some methods that the company employs will be more beneficial than others (Zaremba, 2010, p. 246). The airport will need to take responsibility for the safety decisions that were made by the terminal manager during this evolving crisis. The image restoration methods of ... • 3. Genetically Modified Foods Argument Essay One of the main concerns of today s generation is health. Many people are concerned with staying fit, which means working out and eating healthy. Currently, today s generation is at a crossroad between what is considered healthy and the price of being healthy. The biggest concern revolves around Genetically Modified Organisms or GMOs. GMOs are scientifically modified foods or hormones used to increase foodproduction and reduce the number of pesticides and disease a crop or organism may be susceptible to. So what is the big concern? Consumers are wary of eating the unknown. Many are scared to eat GMOs due to an irrational fear of disease. Consumers tend to overreact about Genetically Modified foods without truly understanding the purpose of GMOs. GMOs make up the many of the foods we eat today. In fact, Barlett Steele reports that about 90 percent of soybeans, the main ingredient in almost all the foods we eat, are genetically modified (p.821). Genetically modified seeds are also present in the foods farm animals eat. The main producer of genetically modified seeds, Monsanto, has made seeds that are resistant to a pesticide from the brand name Roundup. Roundup Ready Seeds has made farming easier for farmers. A farmer can... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In animals, GMOs can be found in cows in the form of artificial hormones. Dairy cows are often injected with a genetically modified hormone to encourage milk production. This chemical, rBGH is proven to not be harmful to humans but can be harmful in animals because it speeds up their metabolism and increases the cows chance of early death (Barlett Steele). This raises many debates about artificial hormones. While these hormones do not affect humans, cows are severely affected and injecting them with these hormones can be considered animal abuse. Ultimately, this debate is settled by the consumers. Dairy farmers label their milk and it is up to the consumer to decide if they want to use the milk or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Drug Testing and Ethics Essay Camille Dickinson Business Ethics Module 5 November 27th 2010 Is drug testing an unwarranted invasion of employee privacy? Which is more important getting drugs out of the workplace or protecting the privacy of the employee? What about other health threatening activities, i.e. smoking outside of working hours, unprotected sex, etc. Should employers be able to question or test employees or potential employees about these activities? Both of these scenarios are tricky ones. On the one hand, any employer would want to get drugs out of the workplace. On the other hand you don t want to invade an employee s privacy. At the same time some jobs may require employees to conform to a certain standard of behavior both on and off the job,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... My husband in his decision to fire Bruce was also acting partially from an egoist point of view since an unemployed Bruce meant a sober Bruce which meant no trips to the ER which meant that my husband wouldn t have to deal with a cursing, screaming, bloody drunk Bruce. At the same time he was also acting from Kant s theory which states that Only when we act from a sense of duty does our action have moral worth (Shaw amp; Barry, 2010 p69). My husband felt that it was his duty as a member of the medical profession, not to enable a habit that could possibly cause harm to an individual. A high incidence of false positive results in drug testing is another reason for the argument that drug testing should not be used. In researching this paper I was surprised to learn how many over the counter drugs can produce false positive results. According to an article on The National Center for Biotechnology Information website entitled Commonly prescribed medications and potential false positive urine drug screens published Aug 15th 2010, A number of routinely prescribed medications have been associated with triggering false positive UDS results. Verification of the test results with a different screening test or additional analytical tests should be performed to avoid adverse consequences for the patients. Some of the more common drugs that could produce false positive results were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Persepolis Analysis In Marjane Satrapi s graphic novel, Persepolis, the protagonist, Marji, faces hardships and conflict as a woman in Iran. When discussing conflict that Marji faces, politics is one topic that stands out the most. Growing up in a war torn and corrupt country, Marji is exposed to violence at a young age and is forced to mature quickly. As she grows older she experiments during a period of rebellion and temporarily leaves her home country in an effort to find herself. However, much later, she circles back to Iranand comes home to the same crumbling and oppressive system she has always resented. Even though Marji may change as she travels to new places, grows older, and experiments with her self expression, her constant strife with the Islamic Regime s political ideology remains. Although Marji begins as an outspoken and confident young girl, she quickly has to adjust to the harsh rules of society. Marji s first conflict arises when she is forced to wear a veil in school. One frame shows her and all of her classmates playing different kinds of childish games with the veils they were forced to wear. In one corner, a girl is jump roping with a veil, and in another corner, two girls are faking an execution (Satrapi, 3, fr. 5). This is because Marji and her classmates do not understand why they have veils and undermine the authoritative power by playing with them. Although a small event in the novel, this mini revolt sets a precedent for Marji s actions in response to the regime s rules as she grows older. Later in the story, she is inspired to join the revolution and make a change after seeing her parents protesting. On one night, an audacious Marji storms into her parents room and exclaims, I want to come with you tomorrow! To demonstrate on the street. I am sick and tired of doing it in the garden. For a revolution to succeed, the entire population must support it (Satrapi, 16 17). Marji s eloquent words are that of someone who is willing to sacrifice his/herself to make change in a corrupt system. In return for dealing with such heavy political issues, Marji is passionate about protesting and expressing her disdain for the Iranian government. Though Marji eventually decides to leave Iran for a short period of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Importance Of Essential For Healthy Family Functioning... According to Professor Rick Peterson, there are five essential roles essential to healthy family functioning, they include providing resources, support and nurturing, development of life skills (especially for young children), maintenance and management of the family system, and sexual gratification between spouses. (Peterson and Green) In this section we re going to look at how these are incorporated into the familys instrumental functioning and their expressive functioning. Instrumental Functioning As stated earlier in the paper, this family is very set in old traditions. EM stays home with the kids all day while RM goes to work. While at home EM cooks for the kids, cleans the house, takes care of the dog, and makes sure the household runs smoothly. They have decided to homeschool their children when they get a little older, so she is also preparing information and supplies for that. Since the kids don t go to daycare, EM has to make sure that they have some interaction throughout the day, so she brings them on walks to the park. Their daily routine is waking up and having EM cook everyone breakfast. She packs a lunch for RM and he grabs it before heading out the door. Once the kids are done eating, EM starts cleaning the house and EJM and HM are sent outside to play. Then comes lunch time, which according to EM is the craziest part of the day! The kids are tired and crabby and there is still so much to do. After the kids are done eating they lay down for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Violent Video Games Do Not Cause Gun Violence The killings in Marshall County High School, Kentucky. The slaughters in Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, Florida. The shootings in Great Mills High School, Maryland. All of these tragedies are results of gun violence. But gun violence cannot just occur out of nowhere; there has to be a cause. Many people believe that violent video games are the direct cause of abusing the power of guns. But research has proven that this is not true; violent video games do not cause the actual school shootings. In Japan, statistics show that 90% of all children ages 10 14 have video games in their houses. In America, the statistics are the same, 90% of all children play video games [PDF]. Similarly, 95% of all children in France ages 10 14 play video games [PDF]. In fact, Japan even has Call of Duty and other violent video games in its top 50 most played video games [PDF]. For France, Call of Duty and other such violent video games have even made it to the top 10 most played video games of the year [PICTURE]. In 2014, only 6 people in Japan died of gun wounds, compared to the 33, 599 people that died in America [PDF]. So how is Japan and France not breaking out into a killing spree equivalent to America s? 32, 500, 000 units Call of Duty Black Ops 111 has been sold world wide [PDF]. Yet, the Earth... The most character development can be seen from the first soliloquy, to the second, the third, the sixth, and the seventh and final soliloquy. Hamlets inner conflict with his thoughts and his actions are well analyzed in his soliloquys, as well as his struggles with life and death, and his very own existence. He begins the play wondering what purpose he has in life now that his father is dead and his mother has remarried to his uncle. After finding out foul play was involved in his father s death, he is motivated by revenge. Finally, he wonders how he can enact his revenge while continuously overthinking and overanalyzing his actions. In Act I, scene II, Hamlet delivers his first soliloquy after his mother and new step dad/uncle Claudius try to convince him to get over the death of his father, and to accept their rather hasty marriage. In his first soliloquy, Hamlet questions whether or not he should kill himself, and curses God for making suicide a sin. Hamlet is also fixated on his mother s rushed marriage to his uncle, not even a month after his father s death. Hamlet says, A little month, or ere those shoes were old/with which she followed my poor father s body (Lines 146 147). He is very hooked on the fact that his mother wore the same shoes to her wedding as she did to her husband s funeral, not even having time in between to break the shoes in. Hamlet wishes he could say whatever he wants and express his disgust about his mother s marriage and his hatred for his uncle, but since his uncle is the reigning King of Denmark, he has to hold his tongue and show respect for the king. This first soliloquy introduces the reader to Hamlet s indecisiveness and over analytical mindset. Hamlet is confronted by the ghostly figure of his father in Act I, scene V. Hamlet s father informs him that he had been murdered by Claudius. King Hamlet tells his son to avenge his death, but doesn t specify how. King Hamlet also tells Hamlet to leave his mother out of the revenge plot, as King Hamlet believes Claudius seduced Queen Gertrude. King ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Low pressure atmospheric systems are also known as depressions or cyclones and they form in mid and high latitudes. They are formed by the mixing of cold and warm air, the warm air is lighter, so it rises above the denser, cold air and forms a centre of low pressure. High pressure atmospheric systems are also known as anticyclones and have very different characteristics to depressions. Anticyclones are large masses of subsiding air, which produces high pressure at the surface. The impacts of anticyclones and depressions vary, as does the period they remain and the effect they have. The North American blizzard of 2003 lasted for five days throughout February and occurred on the East Coast of the USA and Canada. It was a record breaking blizzard, which caused 27 deaths and over $14 million worth of damage. The cities in America were bought to a standstill, as there was a range of 38 76cm of snow covering the ground. The cause for such an unusually extreme blizzard was the fact that the conditions were favourable, with moisture from the Atlantic Ocean enhancing precipitation and a high pressure system over Canada, allowing cold air to be brought down coastal areas. This meant that the precipitation was mainly snow, hence the record breaking statistics. The effects this storm had were mainly short term, but the roof of the historic Railroad Museum collapsed and 27 people lost their lives. Additionally, transport infrastructure was brought to a halt, and three major airports were also closed. So, the impacts of depressions are mainly short term, although the destruction can be horrendous, whereas, anticyclones usually cause long term impacts on a country such as the Drought in Britain and Europe in 2003. • 36. Farmer Saw The Wolf English syntax makes it a more analytic as opposed to Japanese where word order is not so important as the affixes of words so reordering of a sentence can still have the same meaning even if they sound funny unlike in English where word order is the de facto method of easy communication (Freeman Freeman, 2014, p. 194). In Finnegan (2015), the sentence: The farmer saw the wolf is used to show how word order can explain why syntax is so important in English; English is an SVO language or a language that predetermines where words go in a sentence for the purpose of clear meaning, SVO stands for Subject Verb Object, whereas many languages can be SVO or even VOS or VSO, with the knowledge that S, V, and O always stand for Subject, Verb, and Object (Language: its structure and use, p. 57). Latin in the sentence mentioned in the prior sentence would be able to switch the SVO around to almost any order; Spanish is in the language family of Latin and so The farmer saw the wolf can be said as El granjero vio al lobo , SVO, or Al lobo el granjero vio , OSV, or Vio al lobo, el granjero , VOS (Finegan, 2015, p. 57). Furthermore, it is apparent that English syntax, or the study of sentence structures is synonymous with much of the study of English grammar; Syntax in a reductive explanation is the study of sentence structure (Finegan, 2015, p. 178). Review Of Magnetotactic Bacteria And Magnetosomes Christian Ramirez Bionanotechnology 12/18/14 Review of Magnetotactic Bacteria and Magnetosomes Magnetotactic bacteria are a group of prokaryotes of varying morphologies. The morphologies include coccoid, helical, multicellular, rod shaped, and vibriod1. Magnetotactic bacteria were first discovered by Salvatore Bellini in 1963 2. The commonality of all members of magnetotactic bacteria is that they passively orient and swim along the geomagnetic field by means of a method called magnetotaxis. The ability to swim along the geomagnetic field is made possible by an organelle that all magnetotactic bacteria have, called the magnetosome 3. Other commonalities that magnetotactic bacteria share is that they are all gram negative bacteria, are motile by means of flagella, exhibit negative growth responses to atmospheric oxygen, and metabolize substrates via respiration 4. All magnetotactic bacteria are either microaerophiles anaerobes, or facultatively anaerobic aerophiles 3. This paper is designed to provide a summary of the structure, synthesis, function, distribution, and potential uses of magnetosomes, as well as discuss current issues facing magnetosome research and application. Alinsky had a particular contention on the issue of means and ends, or in the terminology of informal education, on process and product. He was certainly aggravated by people who would not take action to uphold their principles. I would like to quote from chapter Of Means and Ends in Rules for Radicals, He who sacrifices the mass good for his personal conscience has a peculiar conception of personal salvation ; he doesn t care enough for people to be corrupted for them . This made me question my own values and principles, and encouraged me to not only demand for change, but to establish concrete actions. The radical reasons that were employed by Alinsky in said chapter were the ones that captured me most. Ethical and philosophical discourses about what is right or wrong often leave open ended questions in my mind. Due to the fact that the internal integration of good trade was accomplished with the creation of the customs union, the Common Commercial Policy was used in order to formulate general rules concerning all aspects of external good trade. In order to avoid the distortion of internal trade or competiveness conditions, it has become imperative that the CCP extended to all directives concerning trading of good with other states, like border evaluation and customs duties, and these needed to be interpreted in such a way that the intra EU commerce would not be disturbed. Needless to say, the European Union represents all its member states within GATT and has been singing important commercial bilateral agreements with other states. According to the Joint Commission, these medication errors are believed to be the most common type of medical error and are a significant cause of preventable adverse events (The Joint Commission, 2008). Many experts agree with the research that medication errors have the potential to cause harm within the pediatric population about three times as higher than in the adult population. This is due to medication dosing errors that are weight based dosing calculations, fractional dosing, and misplacement of the decimal point that can lead to overdosing or under dosing (The Joint Commission, 2008). Children are at greater risk than adults for medication errors because they have an immature physiology as well as developmental limitations that affect their ability to communicate and self administer medications (The Joint Commission, 2008). Another important factor is that the great majority of medications are developed in concentrations appropriate for adults; therefore, pediatric indications and dosage guidelines often aren t included with a medication, necessitating weight based dosing or dilution (The Joint Commission, 2008). The need to alter the original medication dosage requires a series of pediatric specific calculations and tasks, each significantly increasing the possibility of error (The Joint Commission, 2008). However, this dye, which contains iodine, can cause some side effects (e.g. nausea, itching and hives) (Krans, B. n.d.). The iodine injection can also cause pre existing kidney issues to worsen further, which can ultimately result in the failure of kidneys. • 49. Napoleon Bonaparte And His Power Napoleon Bonaparte was a great leader until he took his power too far. He helped France get out of their debt and also won multiple territories from winning wars. He continued to strengthen France with his great leadership and military strategies. Eventually, though, he began to abuse his power. He proceeded through a war, without forfeit and experienced a great defeat. During his time of power Napoleon was a paradox. Napoleon s fall from being a great leader taught us that, sometimes when people get too used to having so much power and authority, they may abuse their powers to a large extent. At the beginning of his reign, Napoleon entered France s governmental system while France was in a huge debt from The Revolution, and the aftermath of King Louis IVI. But Napoleon quickly fixed this problem for France. To help organize finances in the government, he created two new bodies: the Ministry of Finance and the Treasury. In one of the only wise moves the Directory (the previous governing body of France) ever made, the assignats began to be recalled and franc reintroduced. This was finished under Napoleon, and the affect was that people now had reliable money. (Finances) With him being able to make such a huge difference in such little time, he was gaining attention and authority, from the people of France. After so many years of France going through debt, he fixed it in a short matter of time. This began to strengthen France again, making them more powerful, along with ... • 50. Viking Raiders Essay Beginning in about A.D. 800, many Scandinavians sailed south from their homelands to seek their fortunes. These seafaring warriors began by raiding coastal sites of the British Isles but soon grew more ambitious. During the next three centuries, they left their mark as traders, pirates and settlers on much of Britain and the European continent. These raiders became known collectively as Norsemen, or Northmen, though they are better remembered by another name: Vikings. Most Vikings came from the regions of Scandinavia now known as Denmark, Norway and Sweden. However, they were not united by race or nationality. To the people they raided, the Vikings shared several common features. They were great sailors, ferocious fighters, and hailed from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Viking leaders soon realized they could make deals with kingdoms seeking to be left alone or even desperate for protection. By the mid 800s, the lands of Ireland, Scotland and England were attracting Viking settlers as well as raiders. Viking settlers founded Ireland s first trading towns, including Dublin and Limerick. • 51. Sense And Sensibility In The Novel By Jane Austen Sense and Sensibility written by Jane Austen is a novel that does not only deal with two sister s love matters, but how two dissimilar personalities respond to society and love. The theme of society vs. sense is existed throughout the novel because it is concerned with the ruling of one s feelings, or the incapability to do so. Declaring love for someone, nurturing one s self and not caring what people think is important in expressing this kind of social duty. (Pam Morris, 43) This kind of theme is always present, with some dramatization, within Emma Thompson s 1995 film adaption. Literary critic Deborah Kaplan argues that Thompson s film adaption demonstrates harlequinization , where the narrative structure of the mass market structure , where a lot of people really like them, it focuses on a hero and a heroin s courtship at the expense of the other characters and experiences. Kaplan is stating that the film is negative because some characters are underrepresented. She s right, but at the same time it is to be expected because it is a film adaption. I argue that Kaplan is right, the film adaption does demonstrate this harlequinization to the point where it ignores all the important scenes within the novel such as how the Dashwood sisters are represented, Marianne s rescuers Willoughby and Colonel Brandon in contrast to the novel. With all of Jane Austen s novels, Sense and Sensibilitygives the readers an insight of the personal lives of nineteenth century women, Marianne and Elinor Dashwood are the examples of heroines, sisters with dissimilar personalities. Marriage is a way to alter wealth for women, it is always a central theme within Austen s novels. In the novel, the Dashwood women are left poor because the fortunes of their father was inherited by their brother. The women leave their home and move to a home in Devonshire which belongs to John Middleton, who is Mrs. Dashwood s cousin. This is what introduces possible suitors for the two eldest Dashwood sisters, Marianne and Elinor. Edward Ferrars and Elinor fall in love and Marianne falls for John Willoughby. In the film, the Dashwood sisters seen as so poor after their father passed away. For example, in one scene, the Dashwood women cannot ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Sporting events such the Olympics start the spreading of national identity and nationalism, and what kinds of nationalism they promote (Hargreaves, 2002). Olympic sport has occasionally been employed to promote narratives concerning national ideals and values (Milford, 2012). American nationalism has been apparent in the modern Olympics since its inception in 1896 (Larson Park, 1993). The U.S. sent its first team, made up of the Boston Athletic Association and Princeton University, to the inaugural 1896 Olympic Games in Athens and one of a few nations to send a team to all of the early Olympic Games, third being held in St. Louis in 1904 (Brownell, 2005). The leaders of the American Olympic movement saw opportunities to define American ideals concerning about physical culture, to make sport an integral part in national self definition, and demonstrate the superiority of the American social and political structure (Dyresson, 1998). In these early games, the U.S. sport media created scripts to the American public that taught the values of athletic performance in the Olympics to better understand their own nation and other nations as well. The media portrayed American athletes in these Olympic Games as protagonists in a struggle to win against other nations of the world who ultimately wanted to destroy the United States (Dyresson, 1996).
