Economic Benefits Of Globalization
Globalized cities act as connections between nations around the world, thereby creating the
international economy and fostering the development of impoverished nations by increasing the
mobility of capital and jobs. The mobility of capital and labor can be beneficial to international
corporations that are capable of taking advantage of international business opportunities. This aspect
of globalizationcan encourage the movement of the operations of large corporations to developing
areas that are in need of investment. While the movement of those corporations into developing
countries can be beneficial to the region as a whole, globalization does not always affect all
members of a population equally. Certain populations still struggle to find adequate housing,
employment opportunities, and healthcare despite the overall economic development in their city.
To maximize the benefits of globalization, it is also essential that city officials understand the
importance of creating a cohesive vision to guide the growth of an aspiring global city. The Meta
Theme laborand capital describes how globalization has increased the mobility of funds and jobs
due to the ease of transporting goods and exchanging information internationally. Capital
investments are essential to the development of cities. Even with an effective plan in place, the
development of a city is not possible without investment in infrastructure. Additionally, the mobility
of jobs made possible by globalization has

Analyse the poetry of Thomas Hardy
Thomas Hardy is an intriguing and enigmatic poet whose poetic themes deviate from war, nature
and heroism to love, the transience of life and the death of the soul. Though penned some eighty
years ago, the poetry of Thomas Hardy remains remarkably accessible and identifiable to a
modern reader. While some critic s claim that his poetic writing is archaise. His language elegant
but awkward and his work difficult to comprehend, I enjoyed the poetryof Hardy for its diversity of
themes, its earthly realism and his descriptive and metaphorical language. I identified and
empathised with his poetry of loveand loss, change and decay. Whether he is describing the

Repetition, particularly of the word Lyonnesse , and rhyme contribute to the musical quality of the
poem.
There is a contrast between the narrator s demeanour at the outset and the demeanour of the poet
upon return from his journey. Hardy captures the sense of transformation as a result of falling in
love. While initially feeling only lonesomeness , the poet returned with magic in my eyes . This
line is significant as it is another reference to a childlike, dream like world, perhaps depicting that
the feeling is make believe or artificial, much like a child s fantasy world. The transforming nature
of love and happiness is reinforced in the final lines. The transformation is so immense that All

Written ten days after the sinking of the Titanic on her maiden voyage with the loss of 1513
lives, the Convergence of the Twain was initially written for a gala in aid of the Titanic Disaster
Fund. Essentially, The Convergence of the Twain is a social commentary and social critique of
human vanity and pride of life which were expressed in the opulent style of the ship s
construction. While the loss of the titanic was a very human tragedy and despite the fact that two
of Hardy s friends were among the dead, Hardy appears less concerned with lamenting or
remembering the dead as he

The Causes Of Blasphemy In Pakistan
Since 1990, at least 73 people have been killed over alleged blasphemy, according to an Al Jeerza
tally (Pakistan minister resigns ending Islamabad standoff ). The major religion in Pakistan is
Islam, which is practiced by about 95% of the population. Muhammad is the prophet and
founder of Islam, so when taken lightly, situations can easily get out of hand. Pakistan s Federal
Law Minister, Zahid Hamid, is being accused of blasphemy because of wording in his oath,
because of his oath he s being protested by numerous religious groups; the protests will either lead
to countrywide violence, or a resignation of Hamid. Pakistan s federal law minister, was being
protested to resign from office because of extreme protesting against him for breaking his oath.
According to religious protester, Khadim Hussain Rizvi, the minister had a sense of wording that
made ease for those banned from identification as Muslims. Hashim says, The protesters. . .
perceived the change in wording as representing a softening of the state s position against members
of the Ahmadi sect, who are not permitted to identify themselves as Muslims in Pakistan. (Pakistan

the name of the Prophet Muhammad during his electoral oath. Because of his so called clerical

Childhood Obesity Is A Common Problem
Childhood obesity is a medical condition of being overweight or obese. This condition has
continued to grow and increase over the past five decades. In the US alone there are more than
three million cases per year. For one to be obese it means that the individual is significantly
overweight for their age and height. The way to tell if someone is obese or overweight is by a
BMI, which stands for body mass index. Being overweight is defined as having a BMI that is at
or above the 85th percentile to the 95th percentile for children and teens. Childhood obesity is a
common problem in America today and changes need to be done to save the future youth from
having these health problems. Childhood obesity has been around for a long time. It has... Show

Another reason being lifestyle that is taught to children by their parents. Some blame can be put
onto parents if they do not lead their children into an active healthy lifestyle. Many children tend
to either live a vigorously active lifestyle or sedentary lifestyle, which is greatly influenced by
their parents. A bad habit in diet can also induce the chances of childhood obesity. For example,
Beverages such as sugar sweetened beverages (SSBs) and whole fat milks are leading sources of
added sugars and solid fats, respectively, in the diets of US children and contribute nearly one
fifth of total caloric intake. (Ford and Popkin, 47 53) This explains how many sugary drinks are
incorporated into young children s diets and can be very unhealthy for them. Most children love
sugary drinks, but these drinks can have a negative impact on their diet causing them to gain
unwanted excess weight. One way to help this is by monitoring the amount of sugar a day they
consume. For example, One of the best strategies to reduce childhood obesity is to improve the
eating and exercise habits of your entire family. (Sandhya) This shows how small changes in
children s diets and lifestyle could result in many beneficial outcomes for children who suffer from
this. Childhood obesity has received many efforts of improvement, but hasn t had enough results.

Lord of the Flies by William Golding and the Philosophy of...
Rousseau and Golding are both philosophers and are both known for different similar topics.
Rousseau is known for his first book, A Discourse on the Sciences and Arts, about his
philosophies saying that man is good. Golding is known for his bestselling novel he ever wrote,
Lord of The Flies, also expressing his philosophies saying that man is evil. Rousseau and Golding
have many contrasts that fight against each other s philosophies but was never spoken to each
other because they lived in different time periods. My view on the spirit of a humanwithout order is
that humans are all good even though some don t show it. Jean Jacques Rousseaus philosophies
were published in 1762 to explain the good of man. His philosophies explained reasoning is what
causes societies to corrupt the good of man and humans are just naturally good by themselves.
Also Rousseau s beliefs show that humans are good physically and mentally also believes, modern
man s enslavement to his own needs was responsible for all sorts of societal ills, http:/

ideas of modern philosophies saying that if humans didn t have a governments or societies, what
would their natural characteristics be and saying those characteristics are permanent and would
never change. So Rousseau took this philosophy and added on to it saying humans are good
naturally so the characteristic of being good is permanent and will never

In J. D. Salinger s Just Before The War With The Eskimos
As researchers have dug deeper into the roots of rejection, they ve found surprising evidence that
the pain of being excluded is not so different from the pain of physical injury (Weir, 2012). J. D.
Salinger s short story, Just Before the War with the Eskimos, reveals how the characters have been
rejected by society. One of the many characters in the short story, Franklin, had been rejected by
Ginnie s older sister. Listen. I wrote her eight goddam letters. Eight. She didn t answer one of
em. He never got a response back from her, which lead him to decide to not try anymore. Also,
he was not able to contact her in any other way because of having to work at an airplane factory
that he obviously hated. Franklin could not be a part of the war because of his heart. With his

Society says people must fit certain emotional standards or else they are not considered normal.
They are excluded from the social world, and made to feel like they are not good enough as
human beings. For example, a homosexual couple was refused service in a flower shop for
being gay. Flower shop employee Jennifer Williams told CNN s Gary Tuchman that she couldn t
serve a same sex couple who sought arrangements for their union (Wong, 2015). Another
example is of a same sex couple applying for a marriage license in Kentucky. The county clerk
refused to issue one when she saw that they were homosexual because it went against her beliefs.
About eight minutes into the ordeal, an office employee curtly tells the couple no even after they
flash a printout of the Supreme Court s June 26 decision and a letter from Gov. Steve Beshear
ordering county clerks to obey the ruling. (Hensley, 2015). These couples and numerous others

Lovie Smith s Propaganda In College Football
Sunny and 75 with bright blue skies today is a great way to start off the college football season ,
says a sports analyst on the tv from a tent in the tailgating section. Walking down the strip
peeking through the trees seeing a glimpse of the arena reminded me of a modernized colosseum.
Approaching the main entrance greeted by a metal statue and a stadium with a dark shade of
brick with countless of doors and glass windows. Many Lovie Smith propaganda is seen around
the stadium along with the array of Illinois gear. Welcome to Memorial stadium, it s game day for
your Fighting Illini , said the announcer. My stomach dropped for the fact that college footballis

Illinois players with the fancy navy blue jersey with orange pants started to get the crowd
pumped as they were lining up for kickoff. The game was over at the start, during kickoff the
kick returner was shaking and dropped the ball and was leveled by Illinois players. Following the
drop ball, Murray State went three and out and punted the ball. The Illinois punt returner got great
yardage and soon after the offense scored.
Illinois was in control through the game dominating on both sides of the ball. Putting up 52 on
the offensive side and 6 sacks with only 3 points given up on the defensive side. The crowd loved
the dominance coming up with chants and always on their feet supporting the team. People are
finally coming to the games, around 50,000 people showed for the home opener and fans finally
have something to cheer for with the start of the Lovie era.
The following week was the first challenge for Illinois playing against nationally ranked team
North Carolina. Illinois s defense was talked about the whole week, with the major question if
Illinois s defense could hold high power North Carolina s offense. North Carolina having athletes at

Essay about The Americanization Of Canada
When the topic of Canada comes up among peoples, immediately the thought of ice hockey, the
Mounted Police, and beavers comes to mind. In fact, Canada has truly lost its true identity that we
once knew. It is slowly being assimilated and in fact Americanized ; in aspects of social identity,
national identity, and cultural identity.
First, Canada is being slowly Americanized ; in its social identity. When we talk about a country s
social identity, we examine a few areas. First is the media, which is constantly bombarding
Canadians with images and values of American culture. Through the images we see Americans
constantly fighting, either in aspects of global policing in their own backyard with Americans
killing Americans. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First thought that comes to most peoples minds is that of the mounted police, beavers, ice hockey,
and wide land mass. In fact, our national identity has been brought about by the American way of
life. This buying spree essentially started when Walt Disney purchased the Mounted Police s
image o it could be displayed in the Ebcot center. The most powerful, stunning uniform is to be
adorned by some no account, flag waving, hillbilly yokel. Another national image wh8ich spans
all three topics of social, natural and cultural is that of Tim Horton s. The one place where we
all go almost every day, has been bought by an American, Dave Thomas. The image of hockey is
distorted as well for there are 28 teams in the NHL, and only 6 of those teams are based in
Canada. That means that Canada only has 21% of what is considered to be a national sport. The
government image is distorted in the Canadians mind as well. All of the American s television
shows and news would have some Canadians believe that our governments work the same, and all
courts operate in the same way as Judge Judy s and the People s Court. In summary, not only are
Canadians loosing the social identity but their national identity as well.
Third, not only is the Americanization of Canada taking place through the social and national
identities, but also through cultural identities. Canada is viewed as a mosaic and not a melting pot
such as in the States

Existentialism in Literature and Science
Existentialism is the philosophical approach or theory that emphasizes an individual s existence as
a free and responsible being determining his own development through acts of the will (
Existentialism ). What does that mean exactly? To make it easier to understand, that means humans
as people are shaping their own destinies with every choice they make. That seems quite obvious,
but to further understand the meaning of existentialism, it must be analyzed through the impacts it
has had on both literature and scientific theories alike. The literary movement of existentialism is
seen heavily in Franz Kafkas The Metamorphosis and Albert Camus The Stranger. In The
Metamorphosis, the movement of his existentialism is gradual. Gregor Samsa, the protagonist,
hates his job and he wishes to be free of all his social suffering. This is seen when he is
transformed into a monstrous vermin (Kafka 3). His transformation symbolizes him being free of
the social afflictions but his human like qualities also fade away and his meaning of lifeis taken
away as well. Gregor now hardly ate anything anymore. Only when he accidentally passed the
food laid out for him would he take a bite into his mouth just for fun, hold it in for hours, and then
mostly spit it out again (45). After his family abandons him and he is ready to die, there really isn t
a meaning to life by that time. The Metamorphosis emphasizes that one must interact with society
in order for there to be a meaning to

Essay On Why College Athletes Should Be Paid
Throughout the years many schools have been caught paying their athletes money when they
are not allowed to. The National Collegiate Athletic Association, or the NCAA, makes billions of
dollars every year because of the popularity of their sports. When the school has a successful
season they are making millions of dollars and as a result, some schools are breaking the rules
and they are trying to pay players and recruits to entice them to come to their school so they can
make even more money. This has lead to a corrupt system and has many people asking whether it
would be better to just pay collegeathletes or not.

Their reasoning for thinking this way is because their names and images are used all of the time.
College sports are the only sporting events in the world that bring in large amounts of money but
do not pay out to its athletes. Many advocates of paying the athletes think that the athletes put in
enough time and hard work to earn a paycheck, and they do not have the time to be employed
anywhere else. The supporter of this issue say that there is not a way of stopping the large
companies from cashing in on the student athletes. Many people in this camp think that the
NCAA should not be allowed to call themselves a nonprofit organization. These people find it
unfair that coaches get paid so much and the players get nothing. For example, Nick Saban, the
University of Alabama s football coach, makes 11 million dollars per year (Swanson). Supporters
of paying college athletes find it unfair that the coaches are making so much money while the
players are receiving nothing. One simple reason that they feel that they should be paid is because

Drug Abuse in the NFL What is the definition of drugs? Is it the simple explanation of a
substance we consume that is alien to our bodies, for better or worse? Or is it much more
complicated than that? Many would agree that people use them as an escape from reality, a way
to hide their pain in life, or a way to deal with stress. People who use illegal drugs for their own
benefit, whether it s for stress release or for performance enhancement, are drug abusers. In today s
society drug abuse is very common. Millions of Americans smoke weed, snort coke, or do heroin

In recent months leading up to now, there have been quite a few cases of players abusing drugs,
which have led the NFL to consider changes to the policy. There are a handful of specific areas that
have been revised recently; these include HGH
Testing, Appeals, DUI Discipline, PED Discipline, Marijuana Threshold, and Marijuana
Discipline (DUI and PED discipline has been ramped up, and marijuana policy is more lax). The
NFL wanted to ease up on the punishments given out on marijuana abuse, and focus on cracking
down on DUI s and PED s. The punishments given are varied by what offense the player
commits. For one of the most popular of drugs, marijuana, a first time offender will be placed in
a substance abuse program without any suspension. A second offense leads to a two game fine.
Each additional violation leads to a four game fine, a four game suspension, and then a 10 game
suspension. So, a player can test positive for marijuana three times without getting suspended
(DUI and PED discipline has been ramped up, and marijuana policy is more lax). With DUI s
however, the league has become stricter. In the past, a first time offender was not suspended.
Today you get a two game ban for your first violation. Second time offenders get an 8 game
suspension and aggravating circumstances can lengthen the suspension. (DUI and PED discipline
has been ramped up, and marijuana policy is more lax). As for

Ethnic Identity And Cultural Beliefs
Introduction: Around Twelve thousand years ago, human beings learn basic agriculture and animal
domestication. This allowed a human being to create societies which allowed ethnic groups to
emerge. An ethnic group is a group of people that share similar ancestry, physical traits, customs and
cultures with each other. A person s ethnicityis important to their identity since they grew up
learning about their ancestry s past and culture in order to understand social interaction and
behavior. Culture s is subunit to a Person s ethnicity since it is the knowledge, beliefs, and customs
of the ethnic groups history and experience. It influences a individual to speak a certain language,
eat a specific diet, and practice a religion that is important to their region. It can also help explain
why a person wears a specific design of clothing or interacts differently with people of the
opposite sex since culture shapes an individual s social behavior. It is a key block to a person s
identity since it allows individuals to connect to a community that has been practicing and
spreading it since its conception. Many countries today, such the United States, are home to dozens
of ethnic groups and their culture. I have been exposing too many ethnic groups and their cultures
while growing up in Orange County but I never realize their importance in our daily lives until I
started to take ethnic studies courses in the community college. That is where I begin to appreciate

In his defense, Dikaipolis blames not Athens for the war, but its pompous leaders and lying
politicians, It was some Athenians who started it some Athenians, mind you, not Athens, remember
that, not the City, but a bunch of good for nothing individuals, worthless counterfeit foreigners, bad
coin through and through (The Acharnians, line 515 519). Lamachus, a general of the army, is
brought into the play and mocked by Dikaipolis for collecting coin from the war, and only going
on paid missions. Nothing s tolerable to you, unless you re drawing pay for it (The Acharnians,
line 619). Dikaipolis also names off other notable elected officials who receive money from
various aspects of the war. Lamachus then proclaims that I shall never stop making war on the
Peloponnesians (The Acharnians, line 620 621). Dikaipolis mocks Lamachus once more by
opening a market of free trade, except with Lamachus who is denied entry. Aristophanes, who
closely resembles the character of Dikaipolis, rumored to have actually played the character, is
pointing out the flaws that lay within Athenian society. The City itself may have not started the
war, but the great politicians and generals did so out of their own greed. Freedom of speech,
denied to Dikaipolis in the beginning of the play by the Assembly represents the denied feeling of
the masses towards the war, which are drowned out by the war party of Cleon and corrupt officials.

The Insolvency And Employment Law
The sale or transfer of an insolvent undertaking creates an interaction between differing bodies of
law. The main statutes are the insolvency and employment law, principally although not exclusively
encapsulated by TUPE (TUPE, 2006). The interaction between these laws is of particular interest to
this study. Insolvencylegislation is focussed upon the rescue of the company and employment
legislation is concerned with employee protection.
The interaction between the afore mentioned legislation is inevitable, with the potential for
employment protection and business rescue to be characterised by tensions. Employment law is
intended to ensure protection for the employees existing rights especially in matters relating to
remuneration and can directly interfere with the attempt to transfer the struggling business with
minimal financial liabilities (Thornton, 2014). There is certainly the opportunity for the divergent
intentions to directly conflict during the insolvency related transfer.
Pragmatically, an obvious tangible asset for cost reduction in a business rescue is often jobs. TUPE
restricts the new employer s options and had been described as impinging on new owner s
discretion to make financially cogent decisions (Thornton, 2014), consequently TUPE can also
actually impact on entrepreneurial freedoms. Whilst recognising employee protection is necessary,
if the business is unable to continue then subsequently this results in loss of all jobs. Thus from an

Drugs, violence, prostitution, pollution, infestation, and sickness of all kinds are present in South

Furthermore, the children feel like they are nobodies because of their segregation from the rest
of society. It s skin colour and it s being poor. This is something more than disrespect. It s as if
they wish you did not exist so they would not have to be bothered. (Kozol, 41) Strong feelings of
rejection make these children believe they are segregated nobodies. The segregation and hatred
changes the personalities of the children. In order for the children to remain rational while growing
up, they look to their faith.
Most children have witnessed so much injustices that they can only turn to religion as a source
of comfort and strength to live on. Even racial segregation is present in the churches where
people pray for better times. The children pray for the safety of their loved ones and hope that
they will live in heaven after death. They believe that God is out there to hear their prayers. God
hears. He sit up high and look low, even here. (Kozol, 203) This statement reveals that even though
the rest of society may not hear the desperate cries of the people living in the Bronx, but God does.
Therefore the people still have hope and struggle to survive. Adolescents think about heaven
because death occurs frequently in the Bronx. Everyday the children pray for their protection and
well being. God bless Mommy. God bless Nanny. God, don t

A Closed Family In Anne Tyler s Dinner At The Homesick...
A Closed Family:
Growth Through Suffering
The novel Dinner at the Homesick Restaurant is one of Tyler s more complex because it involves
not only the growth of the mother, Pearl Tull, but each of her children as well. Pearl must except
her faults in raising her children, and her children must all face their own loneliness, jealousy, or
imperfection. It is in doing this that they find connections to their family. They find growth through
suffering.

Ezra creates and manages a restaurant that corrects the excessive closeness of his family with an
atmosphere that consoles the customer while making no demands. (Volker 126) This was his
idealistic home.
Jenny, the youngest, becomes a pediatrician, a professional mother, who can avoid stifling
emotional obligations. (Volker 126) She, as a child, ignores most of what s going on so that no
emotional harm is done to her. Jenny exclaimed: We made it didn t we? We did grow up. Why, the
three of us turned out fine. , as if she has no regrets nor has made no mistakes. This shows how she
ignores and avoided emotional conflict throughout her life.
Pearl often wondered how other families worked and why hers didn t. At one point late in life
she indulges in the signal act of idealization imagining the lives of other, happy families (Voelker

first was so no one could see their problems and the second was so her children couldn t see what
they were missing.
Closed families produce people less socially and personally satisfied. For instance, the son or

The Effects Of Eutrophication On Coastal Waters Essay
Eutrophication is a harmful process that occurs when an excess amount of nutrients enter into a
water system. These nutrients, such as nitrates and phosphates, enable plants to grow and are only
beneficial to an ecosystem in small amounts. When an excessive amount of nutrients enter a water
system, an explosive growth of algae is stimulated, creating an extremely low oxygenated
environment where fish and other organisms are unable to survive (Rhyther et al. 1771). These
excessive nutrients are sourced back to a range of anthropogenic activities such as, discharge from
sewage treatment plants and septic tanks, and stormwater runoff from over fertilized lawns, golf
courses, and agricultural fields (NOAA). Globally, eutrophication has become one of the largest
pollution problem affecting coastal waters (Howarth et al., 2000). United States has the second
largest consumption rate producing 220 million tons of waste per year just behind China who
produces 330 million tons per year (Duan et al. 2008). These enormous amounts of wastes are
harming vital parameters of ecosystems. For instance, Chesapeake Bay off the coast of Virginia is
the largest estuaryin North America and 70 % of it is polluted (Boesch et al. 2001).
Overpopulation is on the rise and coastal counties are the fastest growing counties. Approximately
54% of people living in the United States reside in these counties (Iculliton. 1998). As the
population rises, industrialization increases as well. This has

Stereotypes In The Movie A History Of Toy Story
Around two years after the first Toy Story movie was released, production had already begun on

Characteristics such as these mentioned can be seen in toys determining so much about a toys
identity and what they represent. Studies have shown that these qualities also have an immense
effect on what audience or gender group interacts with the toys along with the overall marketing
of toys. A partnered experiment run by the departments of psychology at The University of
Cambridge and The University of Hong Kong observed toddlers playing with two gender typical
toys, once in gender typical colors and once in gender typical colors (Wong and Hines). These
assessments occurred twice, for four minute periods, at two different age groups that included
twenty to forty months of age and twenty six to forty seven months of age (Wong and Hines).
After, results between sex and toy choice along with sex and color were collected. It was found
that Boys played more with the train than girls did and girls played more with the doll and with
pink toys than boys did (Wong and Hines). At both time collections, boys and girls combined
played more with the gender atypical toy when its color was typical for their sex than when it was
not (Wong and Hines). After reviewing the results, it is suggested that once children develop
gender typical color preferences, they begin to influence their toy preferences, especially those for

Biological Level Of Analysis
Psychology EE Draft 1
Biological The biological level of analysis suggests that biological factors play a large role in
heterosexual attraction. Biological aspects including hormones, neurotransmitters and evolutionary
explanations provide insight into romantic attraction. Commonly, new lovers will continuously
think about their beloved, and develop a sense of obsession. This irrepressible feeling of being in
love is the result of a biochemical cocktail (course companion). In anthropologist Fischer s (2004)
book Why We Love: The Nature and Chemistry of Romantic Love, she suggests that dopamine,
adrenaline and serotonin are all involved in human romantic passion. Romantic love is genetically

Buss (1996) suggested that jealously may be biologically based, and that women s patterns of
jealousy may vary through their menstrual cycle. It was found that when oestrogen levels were low,
during menstruation, women were more sexually jealous, while when their oestrogen levels were
high, during ovulation, they were more emotionally jealous. Evolutionary explanations suggest that
human sexual behaviour is based off the need to optimise the prospective of reproduction, and is
driven by securing the best genetic combination for offspring as well as the maximisation of
parental care after child birth. During menstruation, females tend to worry that their partners will
seek out another mate, whereas during ovulation they may fear that their partner will form an
alternative emotional attachment to another possible mate, as the jeopardisation of the security of
her child causes anxiety. This study suggests that the jealousy patterns of women may be related to
the potential safety of her child. Another study done by Buss (1993) found that men and women in

Persuasive Essay On Cloning
Caution and Consideration Over the past decade or so, the technology of cloning has taken off in
leaps and bounds. Scientists are now able to clone an entire organism. As with most scientific
discoveries, there is great debate concerning the legal and moral implications of such ability. What
makes a human, human? What makes someone individual? What are the possible consequences
physically and psychologically of the clone? If there are benefits, do they outweigh the possible
harms? In general, there are two sides to this debate, those in favor of and those against human
cloning. Those who argue in favor of human cloning take up the cause for research and genetic
therapy. They also bring up various medical benefits such as the ability to overcome infertility and
the ability to treat inherited diseases better. They would say there are no moral issues regarding
individuality because identical genes do not equate identical personalities or experiences. In
contrast, those who oppose this technology cling to the moral reality of human nature and
individuality. According to the Islam view, such a thing is a threat to human dignity and honor.
Humansbecome as objects manufactured in a lab. They bring up the possible psychological harm
that the expectations of the parents could cause. At the end of the day, the situation is rather sticky
and involves careful thought and cautious steps moving forward. Based on the common benefit, the

Alternative Energy In California

Alternative Energy
California s reliance on high polluting fossil fuels requires that the state strongly emphasize the
development of Alternative Energy Sources (AES) such as hydrogen power, electric vehicle,
hydroelectricity, as well as wind and solar power. It proposes that a wholesale move towards AES
will improve life in the state in three distinct ways. First, it will increase Californians consumer
reliance on finite non renewable energy. Second, it will create jobs in the state by generating a
domestic AES production infrastructure. Finally, it will reap enormous environmental benefits
whereby fossil fuel emissions will be cut significantly. While the move away... Show more content

A shift towards wholesale AES usage would entail a significant reduction of the state s greenhouse
gas emissions. Currently, our use of fossil fuels and consequent greenhouse gas emissions are
causing climate change, destroying natural habitats, and causing ill effects in terms of our
population s health, through pollution related illness (Atabani et al., 2012). While AES is
proposed to be the most viable solution to decreasing the ill effects of fossil fuels, some propose
there are ways that California can and should utilize our current fuels in more environmentally safer
ways for before shifting directly towards alternative fuel. With regards to CO2 emissions from coal,
some propose that so called Clean Coal, or Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) represents an
environmentally viable energy production strategy whereby the United States and California can
use their abundant coal reserves, and trap the CO2 emissions, thus burning the product without

Summary Of The Story Eveline Essay
Jose Villanueva
English 1302.1001
10/3/15
There are many ways to interpret the short story Eveline ; however, I feel this story is very
meaningful. In the story, the 19 year old Eveline lives at home with her father and works at home
and in their store in a small town in Dublin, Ireland. Her brother Ernest has passed and Harry was
in the church decorating business and would help the family out by sending money. Eveline
worked and would give all of the money she earned to her father. When her father did give her
money, Eveline was expected to use that money to buy dinner so she could cook later that
evening. In the beginning, Eveline s father was more kind towards her, but after the mother and
his son had passed, he took out his anger on Eveline and the other siblings. Eveline had taken her
mother s place, helping her siblings, cleaning, and cooking. At times she had fell under her
father s violence. At one time he threatens Eveline by saying what he would do to her only for
her mother s sake. (Joyce 598)She felt she had no one to protect her. When Eveline talks about
her childhood she says how everything used to be and how everything has changed, also how
everyone has left or passed on. Eveline then realizes that she to, was to go away like the others
and leave her home. This leads to her looking around the room, and all of the familiar objects and

Abolishment
Abolishment of the death penalty in America Every year, many prisoners on death row have to
choose their last meal before they face death. It is a very serious decision for inmates to make
because it is the last thing they got to savor and enjoy since they are moments away from
execution. Prisoners on death row, pay with their lives for the crimes they have committed.
Instead of granting life sentences to prisoners, federal courts punish prisoners by executing them.
It is a long and difficult decision for states to make, but based on the unjust manner cases are
presented regarding prisoners of color, there is a large number of innocent prisoners put to death
row. This form of punishment is cruel and unusual. It is cruel because it is a barbaric punishment
that has no place in the 21st century. It is also unusual since America is the only 1st world nation
that still uses the death penalty. The death penalty is also given to racial minorities the most. The
issue of racial bias is greatly present in capital punishmentcases. The issue of putting someone with
a mental disability on death row is always a possibility. Although, the Supreme Court has ruled
executions of the mentally ill illegal, there stands a chance that the execution will end up
happening. Considering all the possibilities of racial injustice and mental health stigma, the death

Effects Of Overpopulation
With the fast paced and growing world that we live in today, we are overpopulating, over consuming
and a significant amount of our resources are being used up. Malthusian focuses on bringing
importance to the issue of overpopulation and how it strains many aspects of our lives such as the
environment, and economy. Therefore, Thomas Robert Malthus theory of overpopulationis a prime
example of the dangers overpopulation can have on our planet if there are no measures taken to
ensure that there will be a sustainable future. For instance, we are going through a crisis in many
parts of the world where overpopulation is an issue and is resulting in poverty. Additionally, many

This is also present in Kenya since AIDS and HIV are a critical issue in the country and it doesn t

increase overtime if it continues to grow at the current rates. China and the one child policy is an
example of how population control helped keep the country more sustainable. It s crucial to keep in
mind that the more people that there are, the more resources are needed and is very difficult to
create a sustainable society when the members are having many children that they cannot provide
for.
Furthermore, there are inconsistent population to food growth in many countries and this can be
very damaging to the economy. For instance, there has been a rapid growing population in India
but agricultural production has slowed down. Which means that there is a scramble for
increasingly scarce resources. This does not only affect the economy exports but it also negatively
impacts the citizen of the country since it can get more expensive for large families to provide
food for their children. This is very similar to Thomas Robert Malthus theory of overpopulation
since he stated that there would be a gap between population and food sources since population
would significantly outweigh food sources. In addition to that, many developing

The Pros And Cons Of Roe V. Wade
In 1971 Jane Roe attempted to have an abortion, but was opposed by Henry Wade, the District
Attorney of Dallas who was determined to enforce the Texas law that made abortion, unless
medically necessary, illegal. The conflict only grew in strength and publicity until it landed at the
Supreme Court in the now legendary case of Roe v. Wade. When the legal battle was over, women
were granted the right to abortionin the second trimester, a right that continues to cause conflict
40 years later. The case ran from 1971 1973 and it got a heated debate started across the United
States. The topic of abortion had always been debated heavily but Roe v. Wade sparked a wave
of protests and new opinions. The argument over abortion prior to Roe v. Wade is similar to
what it is today; there are those who support abortion (pro choice) and those who don t (pro life).
Of course each has its exceptions to what is viewed as acceptable. Many supported abortion
because women went to extremely dangerous lengths to terminate their pregnancies. ВЁIn 1965,
illegal abortions made up one sixth of all pregnancy and childbirth related deathsВЁ, (Planned

Karl Marx, Commodity Fetishism, An Objective, Valuable For...
To begin with I can t but mention that without assessing(considering, evaluating) Commodity
Fetishism both from the points of view of the philosophers of the past and economists and
businessmen of the present it s not an easy task to investigate the subject.
According to Karl Marx Commodity Fetishism is the perception of the social relationships involved
in production as economic relationships among the money and commodities exchanged in market
trade .
In simple words it s the cult of the things selected and providing them with super valuation.
Commodity Fetishism transforms abstract, subjective aspects of economic value into real,
objective, valuable for people things.
Let me say a few words about the human nature. Each of us is material. We are sure we need
more than we really need to survive. That s probably, the main reason why socialism was unable to
compete with capitalism, especially former Soviet republics closed for bright, new, modern or brand
new trade marks. Big and small stuff becomes an integral part and an accompaniment(a supplement)
to a personality.
Speaking about the effects of Commodity Fetishism I should emphasize that they are not confined
to the sphere of production but permeate every sphere of social life. Social relationships become
the property of things and the form of false consciousness concealing real conditions.
The global effect of commodity fetishism is that we have become the society of consumers. We
have reached the freedom for but not

Frank Lloyd Wright was a renowned American architect famous for his work titled Falling Water.
Wright made a significant contribution to the development of modern American architecture.
Falling Water was a house commissioned by Edgar Kaufmann and his family used it as a modern
vacation house in the mountainside. Although Falling Water is the most celebrated of his works, he
did more than a thousand sketches that resulted in more than 500 completed projects. Unlike other
architects of his time, Wright was willing to experiment with new ideas, in which he took to
become passionate more towards nature. His love for nature and his willingness to integrate
architecture with nature was a major influence in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For some years, he had spent time in Japan studying the country s culture and architecture. From the
Japanese prints, he realized that there was a remarkable level of simplicity and that the print always
carried its spiritual significance (Assefa, 2003). He attributed such simplicity to a unique Japanese
culture that emphasized the underlying geometry of print. He realized that the Japanese had a
remarkable interest in nature and that they represented nature in the prints (Frank Lloyd Wright
Trust, 2016). When it came to Japanese houses, they employed similar simplicity, but the structures
remained impressive. He began selling Japanese prints in America, and his design of Falling Water
depicts that the Japanese culture was a major influence. The kind of simplicity that he depicted in
designing the house was outstanding. Moreover, Falling Water represented the underlying

African Americans And African American Community
As seen through time, African Americans have been at a disadvantage when it comes to accessing
funds that are available to most people. This however has not stopped them from creating and
accessing help that supports and aids their families. Through communal efforts, African Americans
have been able to create mutual aid for themselves. In these communities, there are many sectors
that have been built, but the main reason many are making it or able to afford and do what they are
currently doing is through the help of the various communities and organizations that came about.
Throughout each decade there have been forms of aid created solely for African Americans. Before
slavery, when African Americans were still in Africa, the communities were thriving economically
and socially. Africa produced a plethora of advanced civilizations. Although Europeans like to credit
themselves for the spread of Christianity, Christianity was in Ethiopia long before the Europeans
came. As one can see through time, church is an important communal and distinctive quality of the
African Americancommunity. In his book, West African Religion: A Study of the Beliefs and
Practices of Akan, Ewe, Yoruba, Ibo, and Kindred Peoples, Geoffrey Parrinder explains, Africa had
a history, long before the Europeans came to our shores... Religion is a fundamental, perhaps the
most important, influence in the life of most Africans (Parrinder 1). African Americans already had

J Paul Getty Museum
I visited the J Paul Getty Museum in Malibu, California in April of 2011. I was on a school trip
and at the beginning had no interest in going to this museum. However it being on the itinerary,
I just went along. Arriving at the Getty museum you could see how the building was a work of
art itself. It was like a sculpture jumping from ancient Greece mixed with a modern flare.
Holding over 40,000 pieces I did not know where to begin. Noticing a pamphlet with all the
information about the more famous paintings I saw the name Van Gogh and recognized it from
the art class I was in at the time. Therefore I made my way to this wing of the museum. The title
of the Van Gogh piece I saw and what I m choosing to write about is called Irises . As

The Similarities Of Films Who Does Not Love A Great...
Cody Gilroy
Intro to Cinema
Professor Lee
December 6, 2016
The Similarities of Films Who does not love a great comedy film. I know that comedy is my
favorite genre. When thinking about comedies or comedians one person comes to mind, Will
Ferrell. In some people s opinion he is the best comedian actor. Will Ferrelljust so happen to be in a
comedy partnership with director Adam McKay. McKay is responsible for over 20 films. There are
three films that I am particularly fond of The Other Guys, Anchorman: The Legend of Ron
Burgundy, and Step Brothers.
ДЂAdam McKay does not single handedly write his movies. Like I said, he and Ferrell are in a
partnership and co write movies together. Adams movies tend to be a mean or not appropriate
for children. When did comedies start saying four letter words every other sentence. The times
have changed that is for sure. I would be lying if I said I was shocked. I would also be lying if I
said I had no taste, or judgment of comic strategy. Because, like I said I am very fond of these
movies. Adam s films have a lot in common including his own partner. Will Ferrell plays the
main character in most of McKay s films. In fact, he is the main character in all three of the films
that I have chosen. So it may that I just like movies with Will Ferrell. Adam McKay has a
tendency to starting off his movies with a quote, and of course he works with Will.
In the movie Stepbrothers, an American buddy slapstick comedy which stars Will Ferrell and

Military Ethics Essay
The ethical problem is roots in the culture, so solve this problem is inevitable. While the alcohol
consumption is part of our social life, the soldiers cannot avoid it. First recommendation is the
maintaining the chain of command. The commander should assign the chain of command if
alcohol related event occurs in order to maintain the continuous leadership in the unit. He or she
should give the temporary authority to the next leader in the chain while the alcohols effect
disappears from the commander s body. This measurement could prevent lot of previously
mentioned negative effect, such as decision making and using authority while intoxicated or mind
altering state. The next recommendation is important in the lead by example perspective.
The second recommendation is the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The last recommendation is for the NATO HQ s service members.
Those soldiers who serve for a NATO HQ should get a training about the HDF Values and the
NCO values to understand to maintain the discipline of the HDF and comply the laws and
regulations. This training should consist of law and regulations, army values and code of conduct
and the HDF s Code of Ethics. These recommendations helps to maintain and enhance the
profession of arms by obey the rules and with saving the traditions.
In conclusion, alcohol consuming in duty is an old visible ethical problem in the HDF, but it needs
some steps to reduce the dangerous outcomes to the unit and the civilian connection too. There
were three big topic, the root causes, the effect to the troops and finally the recommendation to
take action correct the problem. The root causes are the lack of regulation. The Hungarian laws
reject the alcohol drinking only in labor safety aspect; they do not rule the leadership aspect of the
mind altering substances. The other root cause is the operational area, in

Violence In Macbeth
In the play, Macbeth, Macbeth has just been told his wife has died. She should have died
hereafter: There would have been a time for such a word. Tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow
creeps in this pretty pace from day to day (Shakespeare). Macbeth reaction is surprising, given the
fact that his wife has just died. His reaction shows the consequences of prolonged exposure to
violencedoes to an individual. Violence in the media can leave negative impact on people s moral
compass. In fact, violence in the media can lead to a negative influence on behavior, desensitization,
and aggression.
The impact of violence in the media is believed to cause many negative behaviors. Psychologist
Anderson states that, the evidence strongly suggests that exposure to violent video games is a
causal risk factor for increased aggressive behavior, aggressive cognition, and aggressive affect
and for decreased empathy and prosocial behavior. (14 Mass Murders List) This claim can be
supported from previous violent acts committed by people who played violent video games. Adam

Importance Of Machu Picchu
The site that I have chosen Is Machu Picchu. It is an Incan citadel set high in the Andes mountains
in Peru, above the Urubamba River valley. The site was built in the 15th century but was later
abandoned, Machu Picchu is renowned for its sophisticated dry stone walls that fuse huge blocks
without the use of a motor and intriguing buildings. Machu Picchuhas polished dry stone walls,
three primary structures which are the Intihuatana, the temple of the sun, the room of the three
windows. Many of the outlying building structures have been reconstructed in order to give the
tourist a better idea of how the structures originally appeared. Machu Picchu lies in the southern
hemisphere at 13.164 degrees south of the equator. Archaeologists believe that Machu Picchu was
constructed as an estate for the Inca emperor, which can often be mistakenly referred to as the
Lost City of the Incas . The site was built in a classical Inca style. By 1976, thirty percent of
Machu Picchu had been restored and the restoration has continued. The site Machu Picchu was
declared a UNESCO world heritage siteand a Peruvian Historical Sanctuary in 1981.
Ecological sustainability is the capacity of the biosphere to meet the needs of the present

Here Follows Some Verses Upon the Burning of Our House, by...
The Puritan life, although simple, demanded diligence both mentally and spiritually which put
stress on even the most faithful of followers. Although the common practice entailed brushing
religious struggles under the rug, few writers bravely wrote of their religious doubts and
endeavors to become better Puritans. Author Anne Bradstreet shows in her work Here Follows
Some Verse upon the Burning of Our House, July 10th, 1666 that religious struggles are often met
by Puritans and it takes brave souls to admit their difficult time with their religion. This poem
shows a woman dealing with a religious crisis and how even though she struggles her faith still
holds strong in the end. Bradstreet s poem displays a crisis of faith in her content... Show more

These material items have become physical representations of the memories Bradstreet created with
them so the loss is a tragic psychological event. This quote also represents the struggles that the
author had with the non materialistic Puritan lifestyle. She has put so much emphases on her
material possession that she has lost sight of what is truly important, which is God. The content
expressed in this poem mirrors the materialistic struggles most Puritans felt with their faith at one
point or another. Bradstreet makes a point to show her thought process of returning to the Puritan
mindset when she begins to question herself in her poem. The following is an example: The
straight I gin my heart to chide,/And did they wealth on earth abide?/Didst fix thy hope on mold
ring dust?/The arm of flesh didst make they trust? (37 40). The repetitive notion of the author
questioning herself allows the reader to see into her thought process regarding her current struggle
with her beliefs. The author includes this process in the poem to enable the reader to fully
understand her way of thinking and ultimately makes her writing more relatable. Bradstreet
develops the content of the poem to show her external struggle to release her material possessions
and focus on the process of regaining her Puritan beliefs, however, the form of the poem speaks
louder to her unwavering internal faith. There is evidence

Leonardo Da Vinci Was The Renaissance Man
The Renaissance period was a period of change in Europe that occurred between the 14th to the
17th century. Leonardo Da Vinci is perhaps the most famous figure of the Renaissance according
to .But what exactly is the Renaissance man? The Renaissance man can be thought of as a man
who lived during the period of Renaissance who had knowledge of and was interested in wide
branches of knowledge. With the above given definitions it is not hard to see why Leonardo Da
Vince personified the ideal of the Renaissance man. He was a brilliant inventor, mathematician
scientist and perhaps one of the best artists that have ever lived. Looking at the life such a brilliant
actor it is difficult to imagine if someone today could ever match his achievements but I think it is

In his drawings Leonardo depicts how rocks actually pile, gather and break up in mountains and
caves. For example in the The Virgin and the Rocks he depicts how the rock in the background
has been punctured and sculpted by wind and water. Jones claims that Leonardo had already
discovered that the earth was older than it was than supposedly portrayed in the bible. He
further goes on to explain the Leonardo came to this conclusion. Leonardo had discovered that
shells which are found on mountain top must have been the remains of animals that lived there
before. Therefore there was a sea in that area that was later replaced by land over a long time. Da
Vinci also discovered that it was water that is responsible for the formation of sculpting of land
and it could do so only after a long period of time. Therefore Jones asserts that Leonardo Da Vinci
discovered that the earth could have not been created in a single moment as described in the book
of Genesis. This was only discovered in the 1800 so in my opinion it asserts how ahead of his time

Criminalization Of Illegal Immigration Essay
The United States government has very few options for undocumented immigrants due to the
public perception of their criminality. Many people have stern opinions against immigration, but
more specifically, those who are in the country illegally. The criminalization of undocumented
immigrants has allowed all factions of society and their problems to be placed on undocumented
immigrants. Economic, political and social problems have been attributed to them, and solutions
have been proposed that in order to fix those elements to American society can be done by
removing the illegal immigrants. Facts and statistics show the opposite of this. In fact,
undocumented immigrants add billions of dollars in sales, excise, property, income and payroll
taxes. A majority of immigrants are encouraged and attempt to obey the law, in... Show more

The changing tides of immigration have all been impacted by the attitudes of society, it has caused
change and halted change from occurring as well. Government action and inaction have been
impacted by political opinions of the public. Throughout the history of immigration in the United
States, opinions on the government s ability to handle immigration issues, in addition, reveal
extremely clear and negative attitudes. For a long time, the public has seen a problem with the
government and their capability when it comes to addressing illegal immigration. It can be inferred
that due to the lack of support from the American people, the government were pushed to increase
political action toward illegal immigration. By doing so, again there is a correlation with the
restriction that has pushed people to illegal measures. There is a strong unified relationship between
how history, and the opinions of society have governed immigration in the United States. Most
notably, immigration has been divided into clear distinctions where some carry more weight than

French Revolution Dbq Research Paper
During the late 18th century, France was divided into two different social classes of people. One,
were the first and second estate who were very wealthy and yielded political power. They consisted
of the clergy, nobles, and royalty. The rest of the population of France, the 97%, were poor common
people that had poverty and high tax imposed on them, and they were known as the third estate. The
third estate wanted democracy, and the first and second estate wanted a monarchy, which caused

one of the ideals of the French revolution. Also in the Napoleonic code, Napoleon betrays another
ideal that was pushed for during the French revolution. The laws are executory throughout the

Napoleon, being the first consul of France, gives himself a significant amount of control over
France by forcing any laws that he decrees to be followed by all citizens in France. Ironically he
gives rights to some, but forces all to obey him and his laws. One of the main reasons the French
revolution commenced was because the people of France believed in a government where all had
rights and political power, rather than only the rich. The decades fought and the bloodshed was for
a democracy, but here, Napoleon returns France back to a constitutional

Compare And Contrast The Last Judgement And The Sistine...
Both of the paintings by Michelangelo are excellent examples of Renaissance era art. These two
paintings are the Last Judgment and the Sistine Chapel ceiling. The ceiling was worked on from
1508 to 1512 and shows many themes common throughout Renaissance art. One of the most
prominent is the stunning realism in both pieces. Despite there being hundreds of figures is both
pieces each is extremely realistic. There s a huge stress on the human figure in this painting and
they look as though they could be real people. There s also a fair amount of perspective, although
this isn t one of the most important parts of the paintings.
Another interesting motif is the international influence in the paintings. Even though the paintings
have extremely Catholic origins they have some elements of other cultures. One of the biggest
ways this is shown is in the sibyls that are between some of the scenes. These sibyls have origins
from Africa, Asia, Greece, and Ionia. These paintings also show departure from traditional Catholic
values in some of the symbolism the paintings show. In the center of the ceiling there is a painting
of man and God, yet God is painted inside the shape of the human brain. In ... Show more content

Another technique it demonstrates is heightened realism. Whereas before the Renaissance the
figures may have been painted simply and in only enough detail to get the general idea across,
these figures are shown more realistically. Lastly there is the technique of perspective as shown in

your parents and your self. In the nowadays generation, the way we talk is considered to be rude

  • 2. Economic Benefits Of Globalization Globalized cities act as connections between nations around the world, thereby creating the international economy and fostering the development of impoverished nations by increasing the mobility of capital and jobs. The mobility of capital and labor can be beneficial to international corporations that are capable of taking advantage of international business opportunities. This aspect of globalizationcan encourage the movement of the operations of large corporations to developing areas that are in need of investment. While the movement of those corporations into developing countries can be beneficial to the region as a whole, globalization does not always affect all members of a population equally. Certain populations still struggle to find adequate housing, employment opportunities, and healthcare despite the overall economic development in their city. To maximize the benefits of globalization, it is also essential that city officials understand the importance of creating a cohesive vision to guide the growth of an aspiring global city. The Meta Theme laborand capital describes how globalization has increased the mobility of funds and jobs due to the ease of transporting goods and exchanging information internationally. Capital investments are essential to the development of cities. Even with an effective plan in place, the development of a city is not possible without investment in infrastructure. Additionally, the mobility of jobs made possible by globalization has ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Analyse the poetry of Thomas Hardy Thomas Hardy is an intriguing and enigmatic poet whose poetic themes deviate from war, nature and heroism to love, the transience of life and the death of the soul. Though penned some eighty years ago, the poetry of Thomas Hardy remains remarkably accessible and identifiable to a modern reader. While some critic s claim that his poetic writing is archaise. His language elegant but awkward and his work difficult to comprehend, I enjoyed the poetryof Hardy for its diversity of themes, its earthly realism and his descriptive and metaphorical language. I identified and empathised with his poetry of loveand loss, change and decay. Whether he is describing the transience of life and the onslaught of time Down their carved names the raindrop... There is a contrast between the narrator s demeanour at the outset and the demeanour of the poet upon return from his journey. Hardy captures the sense of transformation as a result of falling in love. While initially feeling only lonesomeness , the poet returned with magic in my eyes . This line is significant as it is another reference to a childlike, dream like world, perhaps depicting that the feeling is make believe or artificial, much like a child s fantasy world. The transforming nature of love and happiness is reinforced in the final lines. The transformation is so immense that All marked with mute surmise . Written ten days after the sinking of the Titanic on her maiden voyage with the loss of 1513 lives, the Convergence of the Twain was initially written for a gala in aid of the Titanic Disaster Fund. Essentially, The Convergence of the Twain is a social commentary and social critique of human vanity and pride of life which were expressed in the opulent style of the ship s construction. While the loss of the titanic was a very human tragedy and despite the fact that two of Hardy s friends were among the dead, Hardy appears less concerned with lamenting or remembering the dead as he ... The Causes Of Blasphemy In Pakistan Since 1990, at least 73 people have been killed over alleged blasphemy, according to an Al Jeerza tally (Pakistan minister resigns ending Islamabad standoff ). The major religion in Pakistan is Islam, which is practiced by about 95% of the population. Muhammad is the prophet and founder of Islam, so when taken lightly, situations can easily get out of hand. Pakistan s Federal Law Minister, Zahid Hamid, is being accused of blasphemy because of wording in his oath, because of his oath he s being protested by numerous religious groups; the protests will either lead to countrywide violence, or a resignation of Hamid. Pakistan s federal law minister, was being protested to resign from office because of extreme protesting against him for breaking his oath. According to religious protester, Khadim Hussain Rizvi, the minister had a sense of wording that made ease for those banned from identification as Muslims. Hashim says, The protesters. . . perceived the change in wording as representing a softening of the state s position against members of the Ahmadi sect, who are not permitted to identify themselves as Muslims in Pakistan. (Pakistan minister resigns, ending Islamabad Figure 1. Protest leader and Muslim scholar, Khadim Hussain Rizvi standoff). Some blame can be put onto parents if they do not lead their children into an active healthy lifestyle. Many children tend to either live a vigorously active lifestyle or sedentary lifestyle, which is greatly influenced by their parents. A bad habit in diet can also induce the chances of childhood obesity. For example, Beverages such as sugar sweetened beverages (SSBs) and whole fat milks are leading sources of added sugars and solid fats, respectively, in the diets of US children and contribute nearly one fifth of total caloric intake. (Ford and Popkin, 47 53) This explains how many sugary drinks are incorporated into young children s diets and can be very unhealthy for them. Most children love sugary drinks, but these drinks can have a negative impact on their diet causing them to gain unwanted excess weight. One way to help this is by monitoring the amount of sugar a day they consume. For example, One of the best strategies to reduce childhood obesity is to improve the eating and exercise habits of your entire family. (Sandhya) This shows how small changes in children s diets and lifestyle could result in many beneficial outcomes for children who suffer from this. Childhood obesity has received many efforts of improvement, but hasn t had enough results. Many businesses ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Lord of the Flies by William Golding and the Philosophy of... Rousseau and Golding are both philosophers and are both known for different similar topics. Rousseau is known for his first book, A Discourse on the Sciences and Arts, about his philosophies saying that man is good. Golding is known for his bestselling novel he ever wrote, Lord of The Flies, also expressing his philosophies saying that man is evil. Rousseau and Golding have many contrasts that fight against each other s philosophies but was never spoken to each other because they lived in different time periods. My view on the spirit of a humanwithout order is that humans are all good even though some don t show it. Jean Jacques Rousseaus philosophies were published in 1762 to explain the good of man. His philosophies explained reasoning is what causes societies to corrupt the good of man and humans are just naturally good by themselves. Salinger s Just Before The War With The Eskimos As researchers have dug deeper into the roots of rejection, they ve found surprising evidence that the pain of being excluded is not so different from the pain of physical injury (Weir, 2012). J. D. Salinger s short story, Just Before the War with the Eskimos, reveals how the characters have been rejected by society. One of the many characters in the short story, Franklin, had been rejected by Ginnie s older sister. Listen. I wrote her eight goddam letters. Eight. She didn t answer one of em. He never got a response back from her, which lead him to decide to not try anymore. Also, he was not able to contact her in any other way because of having to work at an airplane factory that he obviously hated. Franklin could not be a part of the war because of his heart. In fact, Canada has truly lost its true identity that we once knew. It is slowly being assimilated and in fact Americanized ; in aspects of social identity, national identity, and cultural identity. First, Canada is being slowly Americanized ; in its social identity. When we talk about a country s social identity, we examine a few areas. First is the media, which is constantly bombarding Canadians with images and values of American culture. First thought that comes to most peoples minds is that of the mounted police, beavers, ice hockey, and wide land mass. In fact, our national identity has been brought about by the American way of life. This buying spree essentially started when Walt Disney purchased the Mounted Police s image o it could be displayed in the Ebcot center. The most powerful, stunning uniform is to be adorned by some no account, flag waving, hillbilly yokel. Another national image wh8ich spans all three topics of social, natural and cultural is that of Tim Horton s. The one place where we all go almost every day, has been bought by an American, Dave Thomas. The image of hockey is distorted as well for there are 28 teams in the NHL, and only 6 of those teams are based in Canada. That means that Canada only has 21% of what is considered to be a national sport. The government image is distorted in the Canadians mind as well. All of the American s television shows and news would have some Canadians believe that our governments work the same, and all courts operate in the same way as Judge Judy s and the People s Court. In summary, not only are Canadians loosing the social identity but their national identity as well. • 11. Existentialism in Literature and Science Existentialism is the philosophical approach or theory that emphasizes an individual s existence as a free and responsible being determining his own development through acts of the will ( Existentialism ). What does that mean exactly? To make it easier to understand, that means humans as people are shaping their own destinies with every choice they make. That seems quite obvious, but to further understand the meaning of existentialism, it must be analyzed through the impacts it has had on both literature and scientific theories alike. The literary movement of existentialism is seen heavily in Franz Kafkas The Metamorphosis and Albert Camus The Stranger. In The Metamorphosis, the movement of his existentialism is gradual. Gregor Samsa, the protagonist, hates his job and he wishes to be free of all his social suffering. This is seen when he is transformed into a monstrous vermin (Kafka 3). His transformation symbolizes him being free of the social afflictions but his human like qualities also fade away and his meaning of lifeis taken away as well. Gregor now hardly ate anything anymore. Only when he accidentally passed the food laid out for him would he take a bite into his mouth just for fun, hold it in for hours, and then mostly spit it out again (45). After his family abandons him and he is ready to die, there really isn t a meaning to life by that time. The Metamorphosis emphasizes that one must interact with society in order for there to be a meaning to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

College sports are the only sporting events in the world that bring in large amounts of money but do not pay out to its athletes. Many advocates of paying the athletes think that the athletes put in enough time and hard work to earn a paycheck, and they do not have the time to be employed anywhere else. The supporter of this issue say that there is not a way of stopping the large companies from cashing in on the student athletes. Many people in this camp think that the NCAA should not be allowed to call themselves a nonprofit organization. These people find it unfair that coaches get paid so much and the players get nothing. For example, Nick Saban, the University of Alabama s football coach, makes 11 million dollars per year (Swanson). Is it the simple explanation of a substance we consume that is alien to our bodies, for better or worse? Or is it much more complicated than that? In recent months leading up to now, there have been quite a few cases of players abusing drugs, which have led the NFL to consider changes to the policy. There are a handful of specific areas that have been revised recently; these include HGH Testing, Appeals, DUI Discipline, PED Discipline, Marijuana Threshold, and Marijuana Discipline (DUI and PED discipline has been ramped up, and marijuana policy is more lax). The NFL wanted to ease up on the punishments given out on marijuana abuse, and focus on cracking down on DUI s and PED s. The punishments given are varied by what offense the player commits. For one of the most popular of drugs, marijuana, a first time offender will be placed in a substance abuse program without any suspension. A second offense leads to a two game fine. Each additional violation leads to a four game fine, a four game suspension, and then a 10 game suspension. So, a player can test positive for marijuana three times without getting suspended (DUI and PED discipline has been ramped up, and marijuana policy is more lax). With DUI s however, the league has become stricter. In the past, a first time offender was not suspended. Today you get a two game ban for your first violation. Second time offenders get an 8 game suspension and aggravating circumstances can lengthen the suspension. (DUI and PED discipline has been ramped up, and marijuana policy is more lax). As for ... This allowed a human being to create societies which allowed ethnic groups to emerge. An ethnic group is a group of people that share similar ancestry, physical traits, customs and cultures with each other. A person s ethnicityis important to their identity since they grew up learning about their ancestry s past and culture in order to understand social interaction and behavior. Culture s is subunit to a Person s ethnicity since it is the knowledge, beliefs, and customs of the ethnic groups history and experience. He wrote and producing his first comedy, The Banqueters, in 428 at the showpiece festival in the City of Dionysia. The following year Aristophanes won first prize with his play The Babylonians. This production however caused charges to be brought upon him by the politician Cleon for smearing the Athenian people and state. In all, Aristophaneswas brought on charges twice, the second time for his play The Knights in which he again attacked the politician Cleon. In 405 Aristophanes was however publicly honored and crowned for promoting Athenian unity in his play The Frogs. Throughout his life Aristophanes wrote forty plays, eleven surviving to this... Lamachus, a general of the army, is brought into the play and mocked by Dikaipolis for collecting coin from the war, and only going on paid missions. Nothing s tolerable to you, unless you re drawing pay for it (The Acharnians, line 619). Dikaipolis also names off other notable elected officials who receive money from various aspects of the war. Lamachus then proclaims that I shall never stop making war on the Peloponnesians (The Acharnians, line 620 621). Dikaipolis mocks Lamachus once more by opening a market of free trade, except with Lamachus who is denied entry. Aristophanes, who closely resembles the character of Dikaipolis, rumored to have actually played the character, is pointing out the flaws that lay within Athenian society. The City itself may have not started the war, but the great politicians and generals did so out of their own greed. Freedom of speech, denied to Dikaipolis in the beginning of the play by the Assembly represents the denied feeling of the masses towards the war, which are drowned out by the war party of Cleon and corrupt officials. • 18. The Insolvency And Employment Law The sale or transfer of an insolvent undertaking creates an interaction between differing bodies of law. The main statutes are the insolvency and employment law, principally although not exclusively encapsulated by TUPE (TUPE, 2006). The interaction between these laws is of particular interest to this study. Insolvencylegislation is focussed upon the rescue of the company and employment legislation is concerned with employee protection. The interaction between the afore mentioned legislation is inevitable, with the potential for employment protection and business rescue to be characterised by tensions. Employment law is intended to ensure protection for the employees existing rights especially in matters relating to remuneration and can directly interfere with the attempt to transfer the struggling business with minimal financial liabilities (Thornton, 2014). There is certainly the opportunity for the divergent intentions to directly conflict during the insolvency related transfer. Pragmatically, an obvious tangible asset for cost reduction in a business rescue is often jobs. TUPE restricts the new employer s options and had been described as impinging on new owner s discretion to make financially cogent decisions (Thornton, 2014), consequently TUPE can also actually impact on entrepreneurial freedoms. Whilst recognising employee protection is necessary, if the business is unable to continue then subsequently this results in loss of all jobs. Thus from an external ... • 22. The Effects Of Eutrophication On Coastal Waters Essay Eutrophication is a harmful process that occurs when an excess amount of nutrients enter into a water system. These nutrients, such as nitrates and phosphates, enable plants to grow and are only beneficial to an ecosystem in small amounts. When an excessive amount of nutrients enter a water system, an explosive growth of algae is stimulated, creating an extremely low oxygenated environment where fish and other organisms are unable to survive (Rhyther et al. 1771). These excessive nutrients are sourced back to a range of anthropogenic activities such as, discharge from sewage treatment plants and septic tanks, and stormwater runoff from over fertilized lawns, golf courses, and agricultural fields (NOAA). Globally, eutrophication has become one of the largest pollution problem affecting coastal waters (Howarth et al., 2000). United States has the second largest consumption rate producing 220 million tons of waste per year just behind China who produces 330 million tons per year (Duan et al. 2008). These enormous amounts of wastes are harming vital parameters of ecosystems. For instance, Chesapeake Bay off the coast of Virginia is the largest estuaryin North America and 70 % of it is polluted (Boesch et al. 2001). Evolutionary explanations suggest that human sexual behaviour is based off the need to optimise the prospective of reproduction, and is driven by securing the best genetic combination for offspring as well as the maximisation of parental care after child birth. During menstruation, females tend to worry that their partners will seek out another mate, whereas during ovulation they may fear that their partner will form an alternative emotional attachment to another possible mate, as the jeopardisation of the security of her child causes anxiety. What makes someone individual? What are the possible consequences physically and psychologically of the clone? If there are benefits, do they outweigh the possible harms? It s crucial to keep in mind that the more people that there are, the more resources are needed and is very difficult to create a sustainable society when the members are having many children that they cannot provide for. Furthermore, there are inconsistent population to food growth in many countries and this can be very damaging to the economy. For instance, there has been a rapid growing population in India but agricultural production has slowed down. Which means that there is a scramble for increasingly scarce resources. This does not only affect the economy exports but it also negatively impacts the citizen of the country since it can get more expensive for large families to provide food for their children. This is very similar to Thomas Robert Malthus theory of overpopulation since he stated that there would be a gap between population and food sources since population would significantly outweigh food sources. Wade In 1971 Jane Roe attempted to have an abortion, but was opposed by Henry Wade, the District Attorney of Dallas who was determined to enforce the Texas law that made abortion, unless medically necessary, illegal. The conflict only grew in strength and publicity until it landed at the Supreme Court in the now legendary case of Roe v. Wade. When the legal battle was over, women were granted the right to abortionin the second trimester, a right that continues to cause conflict 40 years later. The case ran from 1971 1973 and it got a heated debate started across the United States. The topic of abortion had always been debated heavily but Roe v. Wade sparked a wave of protests and new opinions. The argument over abortion prior to Roe v. To begin with I can t but mention that without assessing(considering, evaluating) Commodity Fetishism both from the points of view of the philosophers of the past and economists and businessmen of the present it s not an easy task to investigate the subject. According to Karl Marx Commodity Fetishism is the perception of the social relationships involved in production as economic relationships among the money and commodities exchanged in market trade . In simple words it s the cult of the things selected and providing them with super valuation. Commodity Fetishism transforms abstract, subjective aspects of economic value into real, objective, valuable for people things. Let me say a few words about the human nature. Each of us is material. We are sure we need more than we really need to survive. That s probably, the main reason why socialism was unable to compete with capitalism, especially former Soviet republics closed for bright, new, modern or brand new trade marks. Big and small stuff becomes an integral part and an accompaniment(a supplement) to a personality. Speaking about the effects of Commodity Fetishism I should emphasize that they are not confined to the sphere of production but permeate every sphere of social life. Social relationships become the property of things and the form of false consciousness concealing real conditions. The global effect of commodity fetishism is that we have become the society of consumers. We have reached the freedom for but not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This however has not stopped them from creating and accessing help that supports and aids their families. Through communal efforts, African Americans have been able to create mutual aid for themselves. In these communities, there are many sectors that have been built, but the main reason many are making it or able to afford and do what they are currently doing is through the help of the various communities and organizations that came about. Will Ferrelljust so happen to be in a comedy partnership with director Adam McKay. McKay is responsible for over 20 films. There are three films that I am particularly fond of The Other Guys, Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, and Step Brothers. ДЂAdam McKay does not single handedly write his movies. Like I said, he and Ferrell are in a partnership and co write movies together. Adams movies tend to be a mean or not appropriate for children. When did comedies start saying four letter words every other sentence. The times have changed that is for sure. I would be lying if I said I was shocked. I would also be lying if I said I had no taste, or judgment of comic strategy. Because, like I said I am very fond of these movies. Adam s films have a lot in common including his own partner. Will Ferrell plays the main character in most of McKay s films. In fact, he is the main character in all three of the films that I have chosen. So it may that I just like movies with Will Ferrell. Author Anne Bradstreet shows in her work Here Follows Some Verse upon the Burning of Our House, July 10th, 1666 that religious struggles are often met by Puritans and it takes brave souls to admit their difficult time with their religion.
