Meditation Reflection
Ever since I was a little girl my parents made it clear that I needed to do this or that
because it reflects what type of family I was raised into. My family is very well
known in a small little town in Northern Michigan. Anything that I did that was
against my parents expectations was corrected in private, and then expected next
time we went out. My family was persistent on being represented well. They valued
things like respect. My mom grew up in a family where they all went to a catholic
church every Sunday so it is viewed as a ritual that my she always took part in.
Therefore, if she was to go to church, then I was too. From the time that I was a
baby until I was 16 I never had the choice to choose what I wanted or what I
believed. So how was I supposed to understand other religious views that people held
if I wasn t able to learn about them? The day I questioned my own religionwas the day
that I became myself. I started reading. I started learning. I started meditating. I
explored the unknown natural surrounding that had never been exposed to me....

What is meditation? Meditation is a conscious state of breathing techniques to
enhance our mind, focus on something, and create a sense of awareness of one s
environment. In essence, it s like the nervous system; interpreting signals throughout
the body to relay information to the brain, and being aware of what s going on
around us. With this comes equanimity: composure and an evenness in a difficult
situation. Equanimity is something that I ve learned from meditation. As your
meditating you should feel very calm and composed, this is how we would like to
feel all the time. Unfortunately, our bodys have fight or flight responses to react
quickly to the environment. So by training our body and brain to react to situations
that are out of our control as calm and composed, it will help you make better
decisions in future
The Dickens Flynn Effect
The Dickens Flynn model is an attempt by William Dickens and James Flynn (2001)
to explain how environment and genes can interact to account both for
environmentally driven increases in raw intelligence scores over time (the Flynn
effect) and for genetically driven and stable individual intelligence differences within
the human population (Spearman s g). On first glance there is much that appears
promising about the Dickens Flynn model, for it does directly address the observable
tension between the Flynn effectand g, something that many explanations for the
Flynn effect fail to do. And yet further inspection also reveals that the model is
troubling in a rather conspicuous way it sports the overall mechanics of a Rube
Goldberg machine.
Perhaps the first thing to recognize about the Dickens Flynn model is the degree to
which leverage plays the key role. For instance in the authors general outline of the
model, small genetic advantages are described as being amplified through the means
of a natural attraction to environmental surroundings that serve to enhance those
advantages. Environmental influences on population wide intelligence characteristics
are said to be boosted through such factors as social multipliers and rolling triggers.
And finally, genetic and environmental forces are depicted as mutually propelling
each other by means ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Why did they not gravitate instead to something more direct, with fewer moving
parts? Flynn (2007), ever the paragon of candor, provides a thorough and revealing
answer in the pages of his book What is Intelligence? There Flynn notes that during
the height of the intelligence race debates, Richard Lewontin (1976) had offered a
compelling description for how an environmental influence could uniformly impact
an entire population while still leaving undisturbed any of that population s
genetically driven

I was extremely nervous for my first autopsy and it happened as early as the second
day of my internship. I did not know what to really expect and had not dealt with or
seen any deceased individuals before. Luckily, Michael gave me a lot of good
hints and tricks for making it through. The best one he told me was to think of the
deceased individual as an empty vessel. What is lying on the table is not the
person, because what makes them a person is gone, it is what is left over. He said
that we have to perform the autopsies on them to help figure out what caused their
death. It was the best advice and I have continued to distance myself from the
individual by thinking in that matter. Even after several years as a deputy coroner,
Michael still has to handle his stress this way. This is especially true when they
bring out the bone saw for opening the chest plate and the skull. Michael has to

My dad used to tell me all the time that we are all a work in progress. At the time I
didn t know exactly know what he meant. As years have passed on and my
relationship with Christ matured, I now know what he meant. We as children of
God can never be perfect, but what we can do is strive to be like Christ, this is what
the definition of a Christian is, Christ like . I try to share the good news of Jesus, and
when I do I like to talk to people about God s Grace and through his son Jesus there
is no Condemnation.
Theological Definition God s grace is a word frequently used to refer to gift from
God . In many circles, it is theological defined as God s unmerited favor (Hughes,
1998, Ryrie, 1963). Within this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One example of a time that I truly experienced God s grace was a time that I ran
out of gas. I was on the way home from work and decided to get gas near home
instead of closer to work, because the prices were lower. As I was turning into the
gas station parking lot my SUV started puttering and staled. Instead of freaking out,
I calmly asked God to allow my SUV to start up to get to the first pump. On the first
try my SUV started right up just so I could get to the pump. I love just thanking him
for the good things in life but also still thanking him and praising him when things are
not going my way.
Theological Definition
The next important topic I want to talk about is condemnation. Now what is
condemnation? Webster s definition of condemnation is this: an act of judicially
condemning. Condemnation to me means not only condemning someone, but also
condemning ourselves, because of sins we have committed. Romans 8:1 says this
So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. What is
this saying? Through Jesus we do not have to feel guilty for the wrong we have
done. Jesus has already paid for our sins through his sacrifice. Justification is a term
that goes with both condemnation and grace. Justification is defined in the Praxis
the assigned book for Theo 104. Justification is an act of God s free grace, wherein
He pardoned all our sins, and accepted us as righteous in His sight, only for the
righteousness
Characteristic Features of the Middle Ages Essay
Also called the middle ages, the medieval ages were influential in European history.
It dates between the 5th and the 15th centuries of european history. The beginning
of the period was marked by the collapse of Rome while its end was marked by the
end of Renaissance. The Roman Empire s fall bringing forth an idea of uniting Europe
in what was called Christendom, this was based on the beliefs of the church. Features
such as migration of people, invasions, population distribution, and deurbanization
characterized this period. The medieval ages had three periods, which include the
antiquity, the medieval periods, and the modern period, all of which exhibited
different characteristics. The end of this period saw various challenges coming...

The Pope was the supreme authority while there was an emperor who was second in
the command. For example, Charlemagne served as the Roman emperor after being
elevated to the position by Pope Leo III. The church became powerful in many
aspects; the people were required to pay tithe to the church while there was
exemption of the church from taxation. The church went to the levels of owning
armies as well as cities in addition to playing a great role in the regulation of state
affairs. This period was characterized by spectacular art and architecture. The church s
position facilitated the development of structures such as cathedrals and monasteries
that served the entire religious and political leadership of the time. Some of the
economic and cultural developments that saw the development of the renaissance
took place around the 12th century. Economic power characterized by the
developments in art and architecture began shifting from eastern Mediterranean to
Western Europe. Apart from development of towns and cities, communication began
to be advanced as well as trade development saw the rise of rich merchants.
Agriculture was at the center stage of the developments, where cultivation of beans
increased exponentially. The resultant was an increase in population as well as the
disintegration of the preexisting feudal structures. The Gothic architecture and art
was developed to a greater extent in the 13th century.

Isaiah Thomas mild left ankle sprain
Isaiah Thomas is the promising point guard of Boston Celtics who was injured
recently. He twisted his ankle early in the fourth quarter which forced him to
immediately leave the game against Atlanta Hawks because of his mild left ankle
sprain.
Mild ankle left sprain is an injury to the bands of ligaments that surrounds and
connects the bone of the leg to the foot. It occurs when the foot suddenly twists or
rolls that will force the ankle joint out of its normal position.
You may have a sprain when you notice these following signs:

Safe Water with Adequate Sanitation
1 Introduction
Accessing safe water with adequate sanitation has been a crucial problem for
billions of people around the world (1). Most of them are in the developing
countries and this problem seems to increase in the following years (2). One of the
renewable sources of freshwater which has sufficient sanitation is rainfall.
Globally precipitation generates supply of 40000 to 45000 km3 per year (3).
However, there is not a uniform rainfall for different areas of the world. Developed
countries are mostly located in the temperate or tepid latitudes, hence they have
more precipitation. On the other hand, developing countries have mostly arid and
semi arid climates which they lack in the sufficient rainfall. Imbalance between
water needs and its resources has been a crucial issue for these countries. It has been
expected that by the year 2025, 34 countries most of them developing nations will
experience water scarcity (2) (3). This situation is more critical in the North Africa
and in the Middle East (4).
In addition to the scarcity of fresh water which is a major concern, nowadays for both
developed and developing countries, the quality of water has been deteriorated due to
the pollution, particularly in the developing nations. The major causes of the
contaminated water resources are the inadequate wastewater treatment, non optimized
landfill construction, leaking from sewage systems, and unauthorized agricultural,
municipal and industrial wastewater discharge into aquatic
Pros And Cons Of Whaling
Do you agree with the Norwegian and Japanese position on permitting the hunting
of non endangered species of whales as a cultural exemption? I do not agree with
the Norwegian and Japanese position on permitting the hunting of non endangered
species of whales as a cultural exemption because I just don t approve of whaling
in general. I can however see their point. For the majority of a population in a
village to depend upon whaling as their main income and/or food source would be
really difficult if it was banned. It would be a nice thing if their governments could
help with job rehabilitation. Maybe even offer incentives to change their business
venture. I feel like whaling is an archaic practice these days with so many other
options to take place of the stuff harvested. Do you think the whaling ban constitutes
a violation of these nations sovereignty? I do not think the whaling ban constitues a
violation of these nations sovereignty because the ocean and its bountiful resources
do not belong to any one country. It is the planets as a whole. It is the same
principal for the oil spills and other populations and over hunting or needless killings
that take place. You are not only affecting your coastline, but the entire planet in

Should an international panel (such as a committee at the WTO) be asked to weigh
the validity of such claims? Who should serve on such a panel? I do believe these
kinds of questions about cultural exemptions should be settled by an international
panel and asked to prove the validity of such claims. They should brought before a
world committee. I do believe they should present their case before an international
court. At best a representative from every country, but at least one from every cultural
Insanity In One Flew Over The Cuckoo s
The nineteenth century may have inspired transformation of society, but there was no
radical improvement in the relationship between the male psychiatrist and the female
patient. A new generation of doctors, even more moralistic, domineering and
masculinist in their approach than their predecessors, employed scientific methods of
research inspired by Darwinian theories, which gave full weight of scientific
confirmation to the narrow Victorian ideals of femininity
(Showalter 122). The intellectual inferiority of women was confirmed as a result of
reproductive specialization (Showalter 122).

It is partly due to the changes in the psychiatric methods. Further into the twentieth
century, institutions for mentally ill began to suffer from the lack of credibility and
bad reputation of unnecessary cruel treatments administered not only on women,
which were supported with popular literature such as One Flew over the Cuckoo s
Nest. Furthermore, increasingly popular belief in the curability of mental illnesses
with the employment of drugs all culminated in the beginning of de
institutionalisation of psychiatry.

she can enjoy considerably more freedom than her predecessors due to the spreading

The forced abortion is one of the triggers of her madness. Traumatized by this

Instead of attempting to resolve the conflict, viewing the Shimerdas as foreign and
distant provides a perspective that justifies violence. This is demonstrated as [Jake]
landed Ambrosch a blow on the head (83). Jake is able to justify the violence to
himself, because the wrongdoing of Ambrosch is amplified by nativism.
Giants in the Earth conveys a greater sense of difference a racialized depiction
between us and them with a frenzied panic from Per Hansa s family accompanying
the appearance of Indians. Fear of Indian s was common among settlers, who told
stories of great massacres and atrocities committed by tribes. When Indians
approach, Per Hansa and neighboring settlers are indignant, stating that there isn t
any doubt the land they inhabit is theirs fearing the Indians may steal it or attack
his family (Rölvaag 73). Perception of Indians uncivilized and barbaric contribute
to their fear, as they watched with anxious attention the Indian band as it crept up
the slope of the hill towards the crest (68). Per Hansa creates greater distinction as
he drew such ghastly pictures to Sam of the cruelty with which the Indians would
probably treat the cows , bowing to racialized assumptions that Indians are savage
(69). When he remarks that I guess we ll have to be satisfied with a scalp or two ,
he recognizes that scalping is the most dreadful thing in the world (71). His
recognition of the atrocity only worsens his actions, as he deems scalping

JOHN SELF:EPITOME OF AN ERA
1.INTRODUCTION
Money:A suicide note is the dark novel by Martin Amis that depicts the degredation
of society, its morals and values ,in the eighties. It is set in 1981 and includes
notable events such as the Royal Wedding of Charles and Diana and the riots in
England. Amis gives us a repulsive and materialistic view of New York and London
in the late 20th century, corrupted by pornography, self promotion, junk food,
alcohol, television and most importantly Money.

the vices that he is addicted to junk food and video games. America is grand, he
can be whoever he wants to be, act the way he wants and a place where he can get
anything his heart desires. We get the feeling that Self enjoys being in the States
more than in England. In comparison, Britain seems smaller, not as advanced, but it
is starting to be like America, since it has traded its places of high culture for

Drug use is on the rise worldwide, and Canada is not immune to this travesty,
according to the Health Officer s Council of British Columbia 2016 report a
staggering 47,000 Canadians died due to substance abuse throughout the previous
year. It is widely believed that drug use is the result of one s own personal choice in
a circumstance they decide to live in. Although concept s such as Howard Becker s

the sociological environment plays a factor in shaping individuals and leading them
to resort to choices such as drug use. The Labelling theory is a concept in which the

The emotion of anger is particularly important in mediating the relationship between

significant relationships between strain and deviance among a testing group of
Cuban and other Hispanic boys. The four acculturative strain and protective factor
scale categories that used in the study were language related conflicts, familism,
family acculturation conflict, and ethnic awareness. Language related conflict was
significantly correlated with deviance in both groups: with drug use among Cubans
and alcohol use among other Hispanics. Results from familism were found to be
negatively correlated with deviance and substance use in both samples. Family
acculturation conflict, which combines describes family conflicts based on cultural
strains, was highly correlated with deviance and the abuse of substances in both
testing samples. Lastly, ethnic awareness, which concerns perceptions of prejudice,
was significantly correlated with deviance and substance use in both subsamples.
Results proved to show that there is a direct correlation between elements of

Unilateral Neglect Case Study
The case study my classmates and I studied was the case of Mrs. S who was
suffering from unilateral neglect. According to our textbook, Psychology of Brain
Injury, unilateral neglect is a more of a broad name for this disorder (p. 208).
Neglect is also referred to as hemineglect, visuospatial or hemispatial agnosia, and
visuospatial or hemispaial in attention (Zillmer, Spiers, Culbertson, 2008, p. 208).
There is no strict definition to unilateral neglect in our textbook, however, it is
characterized by a patient s inability to recognize or acknowledge the opposite, or
contralateral, side of the their body and their world. Unilateral neglect most
commonly occurs after someone has suffered a stroke, most commonly in the right
parietal lobe,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
S did show some of the standard symptoms, however, she did not show all common
symptoms seen in patients with unilateral neglect. Some other common symptoms
are patients colliding with other people and objects on their left side, having
reading difficulties, trouble drawing pictures, and trouble dressing their left side
(Zillmer, Spiers, Culbertson, 2008, p. 210). In some cases the patient does not
recognize their left side as their own body. The patient my act as if their left arm
and leg non existent. This is the reason that many thought there was, originally,
damage to the motor or sensory systems (Zillmer, Spiers, Culbertson, 2008).
However, through testing, researchers have found that the patient, in fact, does still
have feeling in his or her arm and leg (Zillmer, Spiers, Culbertson, 2008). The
patient is still capable of moving her limbs and feeling pain, but due to her disorder
cannot process the stimuli at the level of awareness (Zillmer, Spiers, Culbertson,

Frank Lloyd Wright Falling Water Essay
Silsbee enjoyed designing buildings that were inspired by the Victorian movement.
Thus, his buildings were very narrow and tall with an asymmetrical house design.
Wright enjoyed designing buildings that were more progressive with low pitched
roofs and an open floor plan. He described his own work as gracefully picturesque
compared to the other brutalities of his time. In 1888, Wright began working for the
Adler and Sullivan firm. The firm was looking for someone to finish the drawings
for the inside of an Auditorium Building. Wright was quickly chosen for the job and
soon became an apprentice in the firm. However, while working at this firm, he did
not get along with the other draftsmen. Sullivan knew of this, took care of Wright, and

Fallingwater is a house designed by Wright in 1935 that can be found South of
Pittsburgh. This innovative house was built over a waterfall. It was originally a
house for businessman Edgar J. Kaufmann and Liliane Kaufmann, but now it stands
as a National Historic Landmark. While it only took Wright two hours to design, it
took nearly 3 years to build the house because of conflicts between Wright and the
construction contractor. The contractor thought Wright was inexperienced and
doubted his choice of using reinforced concrete. Thus, to help settle any worries the
contractor had, Kaufmann sent Wright s design to a firm of consulting engineers to
approve of the said design. Once Wright heard this, he grew offended and threatened
to leave the project if his drawings weren t returned. Kaufmann gave in to Wright s
demands and ended up burying the consulting engineer s report within a stone wall of
the house. Another conflict Kaufmann and Wright had dealt with supporting the West
terrace. Kaufmann decided to instal a supporting wall underneath the West terrace
because there was a noticeable sag after the concrete formwork was removed from the
cantilever. Unfortunately for Kaufmann, Wright discovered this and secretly removed
the top course of stones. After about a month, Kaufmann told Wright what he had
done. In return, Wright showed Kaufmann what he himself had done and how for the
past month the cantilever has held
The Importance Of Architecture And Architecture
Introduction
In the Ottoman period, a new art direction was appeared and spectaculars
perspectives were born. Due to the expansion of territories by the Ottoman Empire,
several sciences, fields and theories were developed. One of these fields was
architecture; the Ottomans constructed several public buildings and edifices were
shared the perfection in structure and in aesthetic value. The mosques are the most
influenced edifices in this period because the Ottomans practiced Islam, besides the
increasing in Muslim population and the annexation of new lands to the Ottoman
Empire, the construction of mosques was required. Another essential factor in the
development of the mosques architecture is a thriving economy. The Ottomans
constructed the buildings with luxurious architectures such as fenestrations spreading
over the shaft of the dome to reflect the glory of exterior of the mosques. We can
conclude that the construction method, in the Ottoman period, is influenced by the
Ottoman culture, the Islamic regulations called Shariah and several issues such as
climate and materials used in building. Also, we can see the effect of byzantine
architecture on the Ottoman buildings.
However, several innovative contributors appeared in the Ottoman period such as
Sinan (figure 1), he is genius in art and architecture and he constructed approximately
400 buildings. Sinan affected the Ottoman archeticture in a direct way by introducing
new ideas; his works have aesthetic value besides the

1. Drug Testing of Middle School Students May Help Prevent Substance Abuse:
Study. Partnership for Drug Free Kids. N.p., 8 Mar. 2013. Web. 18 Nov. 2015. .
Students who were randomly drug tested are less likely to continue the drug use as
an adult. Studies show that when students get jobs, money, and cars they have the
easiest access to drugs. Among the studies it has been found that students who have
drug tests earlier in life will be less likely to continue the drug use. By drug testing
young kids you can show them that there is consequences for their actions. Often

Genetics may make up 50% of the risk for alcohol and drug dependence, but not all
people who use alcohol and drugs will develop an addiction. Ultimately, addiction is
influenced by many factors, including a person s environment, parents,
expectancies of what drinking or using drugs will do, and one s individual
response to drugs and alcohol. While a family history of alcohol or drug
dependency is known to contribute significantly to the risk of a child developing
the same condition, genes are not the sole determinant of alcoholism or drug
dependence. Lots of people have come from addicted families but managed to
overcome their family history and live happy lives. Teens may think that they don t
have the choice to stop but they do. Which is why if teens are drug tested earlier in
life the can be prevented from developing an addiction.

Senses in “UFO in Kushiro” Essay
After the Quake is a collection of imaginary short stories written by Haruki
Murakami which became well known after his emotional impact of the Kobe
earthquake. The protagonist in UFO in Kushiro is Komura, a Japanese salesman,
who practically lives as an average person nowadays. However, five days after the
earthquake, Komura s perfect life falls apart when he finds a letter from his wife,
saying that she is gone forever. Trying to get use to the thought, Komura takes a
break from his work and goes on a journey to deliver a small box to another part of
the country. Haruki Murakamipresents the story with an illustration of various
senses. A Visual image is one of the author s senses in the story that helps readers to

It looks like the author s purpose of this story is to make readers think and decide
on their own what really happened to that woman. One of the author s tactile
senses is the unknown box that Komura has to deliver to Hokkaido. Sasaki,
Komura s friend from work, gives him an attractive offer for a trip to another part
of the country for free, only if Komura delivers the mysterious box to his sister.
Komura accepts the offer and takes the box; however, something strange seems for
him to be in the box. Sasaki ensured Komura that there is nothing fragile, and there
are no hazardous materials (Murakami 508). Komura takes the small package into
his hands and shakes carefully but cannot really feel anything. As Sasaki had said,
it weighed practically nothing. Komura held it in his hands and studied it a few
seconds. He gave it a little shake but he couldn t feel or hear anything moving inside
(508), Murakami writes. The author leaves another dubious question for the readers,
but maybe it was Murakami s purpose of not telling all the details about the strange
box. Auditory image is also one of the Haruki Murakami s senses that create a better
understanding of the UFO in Kushiro . The hearing sense in the story appears when
Komura is in the plane and reads the newspapers about the earthquake. Murakami
writes:
The morning paper was full of the earthquake reports. He read it from beginning to
end on the plane. The number of dead
The Amazon Rainforest Is The Largest Rainforest Of The
World
Background: The Amazon rainforest is the largest rainforest in the world, covering
one billion acres. The rainforest is predominately in Brazil, but also borders the
countries of Peru, Columbia, Venezuela, Bolivia, Guyana, Suriname and French
Guiana. The unique biosphere of the Amazon is a result of millions of years of
evolution. The Amazon is a damp and wet climate; with so much rain the soils of the
Amazon are thin, yet, they grow the some of the tallest trees on earth. In some parts
of the rainforest, sandy soils are found, which have evolved through erosion over
millions of years. The soils of the Amazon are the foundation of the rainforest and,
although these soils have lost their mineral content and fertility, rich and lush
rainforests grow on them (WWF, 2013). The atmosphere of the Amazon allows for
organic matter to decompose expeditiously, creating high nutrient and fertile topsoil.
However, organisms reabsorb these new nutrients as quickly as they were formed.
The Amazon is home to one in every ten animals on Earth, and plays a vital role in
regulating the global climate. Soy has contributed to deforestationand soil erosion in
the Brazilian Amazon (The Growth of Soy, 2014). There is a delicate balance
throughout the Amazon; this equilibrium allows for one of the most diverse
ecosystems on Earth to strive, yet, it is in jeopardy due to human impacts such as the
cultivation of soybean monoculture. It is estimated in another 50 years, 40% of the

Kimball s Argument On Religion, And Cultures
Chad Martin Dr. Eakin Religions, Ethics, Cultures 9 Sept 2016 I can slightly agree
and heartily disagree with different aspects of Kimball s claim that religion becomes
dangerous and even evil when mixed with our own interpretations. I think that when
we take our own view as absolute, we start lording over others, and we start to enter
dangerous territory. For example, Kimball mentions that the most extremist believers
will resort to murder and not care about breaking their own doctrines. People not only
start going against their own values and humanity but they also start taking
interpretations so down to the peg that they start lording it over themselves perhaps
forgetting who they are and letting something else take its place. Soon they... Show

Violent Media Is Good For Kids By Gerald Jones
In the article Violent Media is Good for Kids by Gerald Jones, provides an escape
in which kids can rid themselves of their natural aggression from adolescence.
According to Jones, children should have unlimited access to such unrestricted
entertainment. He also claims undoubtedly that violent media impairs children,
rather it helps them express their emotions in non destructive ways. Violent media
gives them this confidence that they can rule the world and without this media,
they will grow up easily manipulated, too passive aggressive, and too distrustful of
themselves. This paper pursues to give an in depth analysis of Gerald s Jones
allegations, eliciting the truthfulness, or otherwise, of his argument. Jones
provides arguments in his article to support his thesis, such as a superhero role
model can give kids power and make them feel fearless. Children need a way to
vent their emotions and by allowing them to do so can help them connect with
other children. All kids feel rage, so if they let it out in a safe way they can exploit
it to combat challenges in life. Jones uses his own personal experience, idolizing
violent media. According to Jones, his life as a child was a nightmare, a lonely boy
leading a fearful life. He had little to no social interaction with kids at school or that
lived in his neighborhood. His parents were so opposed to the violent world they put
up this wall between Jones and the society. Jones got the opportunity to captivate

Water Extraction Is Different Than Brewing Coffee
1.The first step of water extraction is different than brewing coffee because only a
small amount of water is used. Additionally, the same bag was brewed twice as
opposed to one time. Both of the previous processes are done in order to get a more
concentrated sample of caffeine. The hot water extraction is similar to brewing
coffee because hot water is used so that the caffeine will be more solubilizable,
however a larger amount of water is used to dilute the amount of caffeine. Another
similarity is that when the hot water extraction has concluded, the coffee contained
caffeine and other impurities such as tannins and cellulose. 2.The potassium
carbonate used in this experiment is used as a base and reacts with the gallic acid in
in the carboxylic acid of the hydrolyzed tannins. When the potassium carbonate reacts
with the tannins it produced potassium salts that are water soluble. Also the phenol
groups in the catechin react with the potassium carbonate to form salts that are water
soluble. When the salt is formed this separates the aqueous layer from the organic
layer in the centrifuge tube once they are combined. 3.... Show more content on

Water is used because it also removes tannins, caffeine, and some of the pigments in
tea. The caffeine and tannins are also soluble in water because of their similar
polarities. The organic layer consists of the dichloromethane, cellulose, and caffeine.
The dichloromethane was used as the organic solvent. This was used as the solvent
because cellulose and caffeine are soluble in it because they all have similar
polarities. The dichloromethane was also used to help purify the caffeine even more
because tannins are not soluble in it. Water and dichloromethane are also used as
solvents because when both of the solvents are combined, and centrifuged, they will
not mix because water is polar and dichloromethane is nonpolar. Therefore, once the
layers are separated there should only be caffeine in the dichloromethane

Selena Quintanilla Informative Speech
It s no doubt Selena Quintanilla Perez was a very influential woman. She was
an American singer, songwriter, spokesperson, actress, and fashion designer.
She was called the queen of Tejano music. She was born April 16th, 1791 in
Lake Jackson Texas. She died due to gunshot wound ON MARCH 31, 1995. She was
23 years old.
She died March 31, 1995. She was also the youngest in her family. I am mainly
going to focus on Selena s life, and how she accomplished her dreams.
First, I thought I would mention some things about her personal life and her
life before fame. She debuted on the music scene in the 1980s as the lead
member of the band Selena y Los Dinos, which also included her older siblings.

Second, I ll talk about her life on the road. Selena toured with her lead
guitarist and future husband, Chris PГ©rez. She also toured with her siblings and
parents. Chris and Selena clicked right away. It was love at first sight. They were
married up until she died. I imagine life on the road would be filled with many
laughs and good memories as her and her family traveled together.
Lastly, I m going to talk about her end of her life, and the events that led up to
it. As we may or may not know, Selena was shot by the president of her fan
club. She died March 31st, 1995. It was at the Days Inn motel in Corpus Christi,
Texas. The perpetrator is an American woman named Yolanda Saldìvar. She
was the president of the fan club. Many people were deeply saddened by her
death of Selena and she is very missed even to this day. Her memorial and
tributes still stand.
In conclusion, I told you a little bit about Selena. Maybe you knew some of it,
maybe some was new to you. I definitely learned a lot about Selena. She is very

Stanford Prison Experiment Essay
Junior Research Paper, Stanford Prison Experiment If men define situations as real,
they are real in their consequences. This small sentence known as the Thomas
Theorem carries a lot of meaning in the context of our subjects. The idea of the
Thomas Theorem states that if we perceive something to be reality, it will determine
how the way we act and think in the situation (Alleydog). The Stanford Prison
Experiment is seen in history as one of the most significant psychological
experiments of it s time, and the Abu Ghraib Scandal which happened 30 years later
became famous for many of the same reasons. Because of the way this experiment

Philip Zimbardo ended the experiment on the grounds that the behavior of the
guards was escalating to a point where it was ethically wrong to treat a person this
way, as well as the way the guards broke so many of the initial rules (Zimbardo).
The guards misused their power by using it to humiliate and abuse the prisoners.
Because of the way this experiment was cut short, data was limited, but this does
not mean that what was collected is not useful or helpful. The audio, video, and
rating scales of the individuals moods were all collected and compiled as the
experiment progressed. The data recorded showed that guards and prisoners
adjusted easily to their given roles, treating the situation very seriously and
realistically. One of the men, Dave Eshelman, who was placed as a guard was
interviewed about his time in the prison. In this quote he talks about taking up the
role of a guard, and how it affected his mind and the experiment personally:
What came over me was not an accident. It was planned. I set out with a definite plan
in mind, to try to force the action, force something to happen, so that the researchers
would have something to work with... I was kind of running my own experiment in
there, by saying, How far can I push these things and how much

RESEARCH OBJECTIVE
The study aims to determine the failure rates and mean time to repair statistics in
relation to the medical equipment in order to make correlations between the
probabilities of harm to patients in a sudden failure of the equipment. To determine
whether there is another or alternative way of equipment maintenance management
strategies from the relevant industry experience and to check if they have the
potential to improve the availability of hospital equipment in critical conditions and
to reduce the harm to patients by using the equipment s in proper conditions by not

The research was conducted by conducting a survey. The survey was designed in
such a way that every hospital had to answer the questions in the survey. Every
hospital had been given six to eight copies of the questionnaire depending on the
involvement of the hospital departments and the type of equipment s available for the
survey and the maintenance strategies followed.
After completing the questionnaires, approval was required from the hospital head
who is responsible for every activity taking place in his hospital. The main study of
this experiment is to check the non availability of the equipment or failure, which
would risk the patient s life in danger. The rules and regulations or criteria for
conducting the research on the criticality of the equipment is the risk of failure or
breakdown of the equipment when it is used on a patient, the average time used for
a patient, average number of patients used or serviced by the equipment, operational
life of the equipment and the availability of alternative equipment in case of failure
or malfunction at critical times. There are around 6782 devices were examined
during the process. We have taken only 5 equipment s for the study in this paper.
In the pilot project we have considered only 5 hospitals and five types of critical
hospital equipment were examined and that had a non availability of high risk level.
The equipment s are kidney dialysis, cardiac catheterization

Three Truman Students and a Teacher Helped Discover a Huge Oil Scam

Diamond Energy Corporation (RDEC) planned to obtain oil from a government

to buy their drilling rights, so the oil they get won t ruin the environment, where
endangered species live, such as the Florida panther. Drake McBride s father had
given him a company to mess around with and they were barely getting any oil

them so it spelled SCAT. In an attempt to capture and stop the man, RDEC hired a
bloodhound to find him, which went missing. Even after that, the man alerts the
game warden that he sighted a panther in Section 22, and even gave them GPS
coordinates. In case hikers stumble into their well somehow, Bayliss surveyed the
area from a helicopter. Because Section 22 was on a wildlife preserve, they were
endangered animals, like the Florida panther, the game wardens want to find it and
protect it. To make sure the game wardens don t look for the panther and
accidently find the pirate well, Bayliss shoots at the panther, but only to scare it
away from the site. There was a school field trip in the swamp, and to prevent the
chance of the kids finding the illegal drill site, Bayliss lit a controlled fire to scare
them off. The smoke alerted them and they went back to the school. Torkelson, a

dropped it out of the helicopter and frames someone another suspect. Bayliss
framed a former arsonist by taking his bag and putting a butane torch inside it,
with no fingerprints on it, and then planted it near the place where the fire was set.
This was to make it look like it was the bag of supplies used to start the fire. Jason
Marshall checked where the torches could be bought and found 3 locations where
the torches were sold. Only one store was open and it was the correct

this war eventually grew to include thirty two nations from all across the globe.
The start of this war is due to the assassination of Franz Ferdinand, the archduke of
Austria Hungary by Gavrilo Princip, a Serbian Nationalist who was a part of a

Even for men, who were qualified for such educational opportunities, being
engulfed in the work force by their early teens, meant they too were not able to take
advantage of a further education. Feminism, a movement that began in the late
1840s began to recirculate into the lives of many modern women. They were
striving to earn the many basic rights present to men such as the right to vote, and
more opportunities to furthering education and access to jobs. This perseverance
and determination led to an increase in employed women in the United States from
2.6 million to 7.8 million during the late 1800s to early 1900s. Even though
women were being employed, and were given the opportunity to work, they still
would not be eligible for more laborious and higher paying positions, all of these
would go to their male counterparts. This along with the right to vote, were key
figures in the Women s Suffrage Movement, a movement for women s rights overall
that began in the late 1840s. Through the movement s work, women had gained the
right to vote in four states Wyoming, Colorado, Idaho, and Utah by 1896. Women
soon became aware of their power in groups, and seeked to form unions in various
cities and towns where they would create agendas and attempt to get their thoughts
across. Women worked to get access to better schools, rules regarding child labor,
and also regarding liquor

The Adaptive Identity
The concern about identity is a major existential question. People recognize different
objects by their sense, and thus consider their appearance, sound, or smell as their
identities. In many cases, even though the physical traits of an object have changed,
people still know the object. Therefore, these physical definitions of objects are not
their identities. The connections of these characteristics, and furthermore of them and
their inner self, define the uniqueness of an individual. Since the massive universe
constantly moves toward entropy, the only consistency is change : caterpillars
transform to butterflies, the ugly duckling turns into a beautiful swan, and I have
become unacquainted with my mother language but more comfortable with English.
Thus, I am concerned about my rising ignorance of my own culture and of my true
being in the world. But in the poem Identity by A. R. Ammons, I find relief: identity
holds its center within but proceeds to randomness on the exterior to adjust and
adapt. The spiderand the spider webserve as extended metaphors that represent
human beings and their identity. A spider makes web from its body and creates a
place for itself in the world. Because the spider silkis formed in its body, it is a
portrayal of the inner part of an individual; with the silk, spiders weave webs that
identify a species (2). Mostly, they weave a special center (on which they rest), and
leave a relatively large circular space around the beautiful
Research Paper On Being A Toxicologist
I found them and discovered what and how they died! It called being a
toxicologist. We discover all of the ways to find the criminals and we find out how
the victims died if caused by fault. Toxicology is the scientific study of adverse
effects that occur in living organisms due to chemicals. It involves observing and
reporting symptoms, mechanisms, detection and treatments of toxic substances, in
particular relation to the poisoning of humans. In many cases the evidence may be
invisible to the naked eye but these scientists can piece it all together. They are the
people who use their skills to find the bad guys by using bloodwork, fingerprints,
medicine, and in some rare cases drugs. First Analysts classify fingerprints into three

They find chemicals in food, water, drugs, and air. While testing these they see if the
concentration can kill and or harm the human and animal environment. Many of the
world s chemical problems can seriously affect the way people live. Toxicologists
investigate what the pollution can do to the human body. There has been many
reports of how the air has caused stroke, Alzheimer s disease, Parkinson s disease, and
neurodevelopmental disorders.
The next thing is how the education would be to become one of these. Toxicology
students learn the nature of chemicals and biological agents. Most of the
toxicologists get a bachelor s degree but you can get a lot more by getting a bachelor
s degree in pharmaceutical science or other closely related field to help prepare for
graduate school. Graduate degree s show that you have excelled greatly in many
things and it shows your skill level in the field of science.
The last thing is what toxicologists do. They mainly are seen helping a victim, or
someone dead, by determining how and when they died. They draw blood and they
run multiple tests to rule out foul play and drugs. Kinda like when you see a crime
show or crime scene. They do all this to make sure that they catch or find out anyone
or any way the person died. They run tests on bones if there was no body but the
Operation Desert Storm
The Apache helicopter has been the premier attack helicopter of the United States
Army for the past thirty years. The Apache firmly secured that position in the
opening moments of Operation Desert Storm by proving that it was capable of
accomplishing missions well beyond its intended purpose. Due to its success in
Desert Storm and subsequent conflicts, it is now the attack helicopter of choice for
the United States Armyand its Allies around the world. Its success has led to
multiple subsequent models that built on the airframe and success of the original
AH 64A models. In January 1990, after much deliberation and planning by General

EF 111s to begin their bombing campaign on various other targets inside Iraqs border.
They went on to destroy over 500 enemy tanks during Operation Desert Storm. The
Apache proved beyond a doubt during this conflict that it was here to stay and that
it could be used far beyond its designed purposes. Today s AH 64D and Echo models
are built on the success and reputation of the original Attack Helicopter that showed
the capabilities and how vital they are to the battlefield especially in today s conflicts

Salt Lake City Urban Planning
Economic development planning has increasingly become vital to the health of local
economies in the globalized economy. Local officials are tasked with balancing
present day issues surrounding local economies, as well as attempting to project
where the local, state, regional, national and world economies may be headed and
what industries will see growth or decline. Economic development planners, must
also be aware of the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (SWOT) of the
city or state they represent. Contemporary Urban Planning notes that economic
development planning rose to prominence in the 1960 s, with the creation of several
federal government programs to help combat povertypockets and structural
unemployment in economically... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In class, we have discussed the challenges that are faced by economic development
planners. SWOT analysis must be continuously updated as conditions change in the
city and region. Economic development planners must be aware of what skills and
education local citizens have so that sustained development can occur without
wasting tax payer funds. In the case of Salt Lake City, planners have ben able to
leverage the skilled workforce being educated at institutions like Brigham Young
University (BYU) and the University of Utah, to attract high tech jobs. While the
federal government has abandoned federal economic development programs, it is still
an essential element for states and cities who wish to see continued health and
development. A variety of programs, including property tax incentives and focusing
on educating, attracting and retaining highly skilled workers through high quality of
life programs, are essential in the globalized, highly competitive economy.
Contemporary Urban Planning notes that economic competition has grown more
intense since the 1980s . Globalization and increased competition for jobs, means that
states and cities must always be working to attract and retain businesses in the face of
stiff competition from around the
An Excerpt From The NovelPrayer To Aphrodite
An excerpt from the novel: Prayer to Aphrodite . Balmy evenings were spent
strolling along the seashore, occasionally finding some secluded cove where they
could make love undisturbed, or sometimes the couple would just gaze up at the
clear night sky as they lay down together on the sands. On one occasion two days
before the end of their holiday Amy tried to count the stars. You ll never do it, said
Clare, there are more stars in heaven than all the grains of sand on all the world s
beaches. Clever Clogs who told you that? It was my Uncle Bernard. He was into

It began to rain rather suddenly and Amy, wondering where Clare had disappeared,
was about to go and look for her, when she appeared at that moment, soaked to the
skin. What on earth were you doing all that time? she said curiously. Were you
praying for the rain to stop? It says here that this temple is supposed to be
dedicated to Apollo the Sun God she laughed, waving her guide book in the air.
Oh, no, it wasn t that particular deity I was praying to, Clare said with a secretive
smile. On another lazy afternoon by the pool, Clare, lounging beneath a sunshade,
composed a short poem in blank verse. She felt that writing rhyming verse was
sometimes too arduous a task. The poem was, as were all her poems, written for
Rachel. She scribbled it down on the back of a postcard; deliberating afterwards
whether to actually send it, even sticking a stamp on it and writing Rachel s
address underneath: Forsaken You have forsaken me; I, who have loved you. But
you will never admit to it. You just say I m busy when I call, In the forlorn hope that
one day, You can find it in your heart to forgive. Was my love a crime for which I
shall be eternally punished? Should I say something, lie to you perhaps? Deny my
love, tell you it was all a dreadful mistake, And can I have our friendship back?
Grovel at your feet and say I m not a lesbian. The long leisurely days on the sun
kissed isle passed rapidly and Clare forgot about the postcard
Union Carbide s Chemical Plant
After the tragic explosion in Bhopal, India, due to Union Carbide s chemical plant,
many citizens suffered tragedies such as death and severe injuries due to the toxic gas
that was released upon the explosion. When citizens of Bhopal decided to sue against
the Union Carbide Corporation, they combined all individual lawsuits against the
plant together, as well as exercising their forum non conveniens, which handed the
lawsuit to Indian courts. Moving the court case to India benefitted the company
because Indian courts are friendlier to defendants. After all the legal tools Union
Carbideused, they were able to use the Indian government to their advantage and
enter into a settlement which was just $470 million in damages paid to the
government (leaving victims with little to nothing) for a potentially billion dollar
lawsuit if the lawsuit occurred in the United States. Union Carbide s actions are
unethical in the eyes of most citizens, even though the company was trying to avoid
the downfall of their business. Transparency: Deciding that Union Carbide was
unethical with their decision to use their legal tools to avoid a billion dollar
lawsuit, Union Carbide, as well as their employees will be upset. They believed they
were making an ethical decision for the company, and from a business prospective on
the issue they were. Top management had to think about the company and its
employees, they did not want to leave their employees jobless, and see their families

been directed towards attempts at providing high quality service for real time
applications of IP based networks in the past decade. The core idea of these
techniques is to control the IP network congestion level which is the main cause of
delays/losses, and also imposes upper bounds on these events. Traffic policing is one
of the techniques used for this purpose. These techniques makes the assumption that
users generating flows/calls will specify the setup time by using Service Level
Agreement (SLAs) i.e. the characteristics of the traffic that they emit to the network.
Therefore, these techniques are employed to ensure that the generated traffic is
within the conforms of previously agreed contracts. One of the most popular
traditional traffic policing techniques is the Leaky Bucket (LB). Average rate and the

1 What are 3 resources available to the port FSO in assessing domestic and
international risks associated with terrorism and other criminal activity threats posed
to port maritime operations? There are several resources available to the port
Facility Security Officer (FSO) in assessing domestic and international risks
associated with terrorism and other criminal activity threats posed to port maritime
operations. There are also several things to keep in mind as the FSO when trying to
assess these risks. The FSO needs to build rapport with all law enforcement agencies,
government agencies, stakeholders and all private securityentities within the port. A
collaboration of efforts is important in order to mitigate the risks associated with
terrorism and criminal activity threats. The FSO needs to utilize risk management
process to its full potential and in order to create an effective port facility security
plan. Intelligence collection and information sharing is paramount and should be the
basis or foundation that the risk assessment and port facility security plan is based off
of. Once this information has been gathered it is critical that this information is
shared with law enforcement agencies, government agencies, stakeholders and all
private security entities within the port. The more people that know the threat the
better off the security with in the port will be. It is important for the FSO to
understand that intelligence changes day to day and sometime hours to

II.Presentation topic and length.
The topic of Sheryl Sandberg s TedTalk was Why we have too few women leaders.
This TEDWomen talk is 14 minutes and 58 seconds in length.
III.How does this presentation fit into the class? Why is it important? (250 words
strongly suggested)
This presentation fits into the class because we discussed in great depths about the
wage gap that our society has between men and women in the workplace. Sandberg
makes more than the average male her net worth in 2016 was 1.39 billion dollars.
It is important that men and women start being treated equally. Sandberg discusses
the issue of why there are only a few women leaders and how to keep women in the
workforce to create more leaders. She also talks about how women should act and
how society should be treating them. It is important that she addresses these issues
because the wage gap not just in America but also all over the world is a huge
issue. Right now women working full time earn 81 percent of what full time
workingmen make. There is a 19 percent wage gap between men and women. It s
2016 we need to live in a society where both men and women have equal chances in
the workplace and we should more commonly see women in positions of power in
all different sectors of the work field. Women who are just as qualified, and work
the same hours, as men shouldn t be paid 4 dollars less than men to do the same job.
The wage gap needs to be getting

  • 2. Meditation Reflection Ever since I was a little girl my parents made it clear that I needed to do this or that because it reflects what type of family I was raised into. My family is very well known in a small little town in Northern Michigan. Anything that I did that was against my parents expectations was corrected in private, and then expected next time we went out. My family was persistent on being represented well. They valued things like respect. My mom grew up in a family where they all went to a catholic church every Sunday so it is viewed as a ritual that my she always took part in. Therefore, if she was to go to church, then I was too. From the time that I was a baby until I was 16 I never had the choice to choose what I wanted or what I believed. So how was I supposed to understand other religious views that people held if I wasn t able to learn about them? The day I questioned my own religionwas the day that I became myself. I started reading. I started learning. I started meditating. I explored the unknown natural surrounding that had never been exposed to me.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What is meditation? Meditation is a conscious state of breathing techniques to enhance our mind, focus on something, and create a sense of awareness of one s environment. In essence, it s like the nervous system; interpreting signals throughout the body to relay information to the brain, and being aware of what s going on around us. With this comes equanimity: composure and an evenness in a difficult situation. Equanimity is something that I ve learned from meditation. As your meditating you should feel very calm and composed, this is how we would like to feel all the time. Unfortunately, our bodys have fight or flight responses to react quickly to the environment. So by training our body and brain to react to situations that are out of our control as calm and composed, it will help you make better decisions in future
  • 3. The Dickens Flynn Effect The Dickens Flynn model is an attempt by William Dickens and James Flynn (2001) to explain how environment and genes can interact to account both for environmentally driven increases in raw intelligence scores over time (the Flynn effect) and for genetically driven and stable individual intelligence differences within the human population (Spearman s g). On first glance there is much that appears promising about the Dickens Flynn model, for it does directly address the observable tension between the Flynn effectand g, something that many explanations for the Flynn effect fail to do. And yet further inspection also reveals that the model is troubling in a rather conspicuous way it sports the overall mechanics of a Rube Goldberg machine. Perhaps the first thing to recognize about the Dickens Flynn model is the degree to which leverage plays the key role. For instance in the authors general outline of the model, small genetic advantages are described as being amplified through the means of a natural attraction to environmental surroundings that serve to enhance those advantages. Environmental influences on population wide intelligence characteristics are said to be boosted through such factors as social multipliers and rolling triggers. And finally, genetic and environmental forces are depicted as mutually propelling each other by means ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Why did they not gravitate instead to something more direct, with fewer moving parts? Flynn (2007), ever the paragon of candor, provides a thorough and revealing answer in the pages of his book What is Intelligence? There Flynn notes that during the height of the intelligence race debates, Richard Lewontin (1976) had offered a compelling description for how an environmental influence could uniformly impact an entire population while still leaving undisturbed any of that population s genetically driven

  • 5. Criminal Justice Agency Analysis D.Agency/Organization within the Criminal Justice System a.Where the Agency gets its Authority The laws of Indiana were first codified in 1823 by Governor William Hendricks, which was officially adopted in 1824. The code has been revised about every year since with the General Assembly specifying which clauses are to be altered in the bills they pass. The code is currently made up of thirty six titles, with each being divided into articles, chapters, sections, and clauses. The Allen County Coroner s Office receives its authority from the Indiana Code, specifically title 36, article 2, chapter 14. I was extremely nervous for my first autopsy and it happened as early as the second day of my internship. I did not know what to really expect and had not dealt with or seen any deceased individuals before. Luckily, Michael gave me a lot of good hints and tricks for making it through. The best one he told me was to think of the deceased individual as an empty vessel. What is lying on the table is not the person, because what makes them a person is gone, it is what is left over. He said that we have to perform the autopsies on them to help figure out what caused their death. It was the best advice and I have continued to distance myself from the individual by thinking in that matter. Even after several years as a deputy coroner, Michael still has to handle his stress this way. This is especially true when they bring out the bone saw for opening the chest plate and the skull. Michael has to move behind a wall in the forensic center and doesn t like to watch the
  • 6. Theo 104 Reflection Paper Reflection Paper My dad used to tell me all the time that we are all a work in progress. At the time I didn t know exactly know what he meant. As years have passed on and my relationship with Christ matured, I now know what he meant. We as children of God can never be perfect, but what we can do is strive to be like Christ, this is what the definition of a Christian is, Christ like . I try to share the good news of Jesus, and when I do I like to talk to people about God s Grace and through his son Jesus there is no Condemnation. Theological Definition God s grace is a word frequently used to refer to gift from God . In many circles, it is theological defined as God s unmerited favor (Hughes, 1998, Ryrie, 1963). Within this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One example of a time that I truly experienced God s grace was a time that I ran out of gas. I was on the way home from work and decided to get gas near home instead of closer to work, because the prices were lower. As I was turning into the gas station parking lot my SUV started puttering and staled. Instead of freaking out, I calmly asked God to allow my SUV to start up to get to the first pump. On the first try my SUV started right up just so I could get to the pump. I love just thanking him for the good things in life but also still thanking him and praising him when things are not going my way. Theological Definition The next important topic I want to talk about is condemnation. Now what is condemnation? Webster s definition of condemnation is this: an act of judicially condemning. Condemnation to me means not only condemning someone, but also condemning ourselves, because of sins we have committed. Romans 8:1 says this So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. What is this saying? Through Jesus we do not have to feel guilty for the wrong we have done. Jesus has already paid for our sins through his sacrifice. Justification is a term that goes with both condemnation and grace. Justification is defined in the Praxis the assigned book for Theo 104. Justification is an act of God s free grace, wherein He pardoned all our sins, and accepted us as righteous in His sight, only for the righteousness

It dates between the 5th and the 15th centuries of european history. The beginning of the period was marked by the collapse of Rome while its end was marked by the end of Renaissance. The Roman Empire s fall bringing forth an idea of uniting Europe in what was called Christendom, this was based on the beliefs of the church. For example, Charlemagne served as the Roman emperor after being elevated to the position by Pope Leo III. The church became powerful in many aspects; the people were required to pay tithe to the church while there was exemption of the church from taxation. The church went to the levels of owning armies as well as cities in addition to playing a great role in the regulation of state affairs. This period was characterized by spectacular art and architecture. The church s position facilitated the development of structures such as cathedrals and monasteries that served the entire religious and political leadership of the time. Some of the economic and cultural developments that saw the development of the renaissance took place around the 12th century. Economic power characterized by the developments in art and architecture began shifting from eastern Mediterranean to Western Europe. Apart from development of towns and cities, communication began to be advanced as well as trade development saw the rise of rich merchants. Agriculture was at the center stage of the developments, where cultivation of beans increased exponentially. The resultant was an increase in population as well as the disintegration of the preexisting feudal structures. The Gothic architecture and art was developed to a greater extent in the 13th century.

  • 9. Safe Water with Adequate Sanitation 1 Introduction Accessing safe water with adequate sanitation has been a crucial problem for billions of people around the world (1). Most of them are in the developing countries and this problem seems to increase in the following years (2). One of the renewable sources of freshwater which has sufficient sanitation is rainfall. Globally precipitation generates supply of 40000 to 45000 km3 per year (3). However, there is not a uniform rainfall for different areas of the world. Developed countries are mostly located in the temperate or tepid latitudes, hence they have more precipitation. On the other hand, developing countries have mostly arid and semi arid climates which they lack in the sufficient rainfall. Imbalance between water needs and its resources has been a crucial issue for these countries. It has been expected that by the year 2025, 34 countries most of them developing nations will experience water scarcity (2) (3). This situation is more critical in the North Africa and in the Middle East (4). In addition to the scarcity of fresh water which is a major concern, nowadays for both developed and developing countries, the quality of water has been deteriorated due to the pollution, particularly in the developing nations. The major causes of the contaminated water resources are the inadequate wastewater treatment, non optimized landfill construction, leaking from sewage systems, and unauthorized agricultural, municipal and industrial wastewater discharge into aquatic
  • 10. Pros And Cons Of Whaling Do you agree with the Norwegian and Japanese position on permitting the hunting of non endangered species of whales as a cultural exemption? I do not agree with the Norwegian and Japanese position on permitting the hunting of non endangered species of whales as a cultural exemption because I just don t approve of whaling in general. I can however see their point. For the majority of a population in a village to depend upon whaling as their main income and/or food source would be really difficult if it was banned. It would be a nice thing if their governments could help with job rehabilitation. Maybe even offer incentives to change their business venture. I feel like whaling is an archaic practice these days with so many other options to take place of the stuff harvested. Do you think the whaling ban constitutes a violation of these nations sovereignty? I do not think the whaling ban constitues a violation of these nations sovereignty because the ocean and its bountiful resources do not belong to any one country. It is the planets as a whole. It is the same principal for the oil spills and other populations and over hunting or needless killings that take place. They should brought before a world committee. I do believe they should present their case before an international court. At best a representative from every country, but at least one from every cultural
  • 11. Insanity In One Flew Over The Cuckoo s The nineteenth century may have inspired transformation of society, but there was no radical improvement in the relationship between the male psychiatrist and the female patient. A new generation of doctors, even more moralistic, domineering and masculinist in their approach than their predecessors, employed scientific methods of research inspired by Darwinian theories, which gave full weight of scientific confirmation to the narrow Victorian ideals of femininity (Showalter 122). The intellectual inferiority of women was confirmed as a result of reproductive specialization (Showalter 122). 2. 2. The Position of Twentieth Century Women in The Bell Jar 2. 2. 1. Further into the twentieth century, institutions for mentally ill began to suffer from the lack of credibility and bad reputation of unnecessary cruel treatments administered not only on women, which were supported with popular literature such as One Flew over the Cuckoo s Nest. Furthermore, increasingly popular belief in the curability of mental illnesses with the employment of drugs all culminated in the beginning of de institutionalisation of psychiatry. Considering the position of women in society, Atwood s nameless Narrator has already achieved what Esther Greenwood could only hope for she has both a career and the freedom to indulge in sexual relationships without the restrictions of marriage. Yet, even though she can enjoy considerably more freedom than her predecessors due to the spreading opposition towards the male supremacy, she still feels powerless and sees herself as a victim of the patriarchal society. The forced abortion is one of the triggers of her madness. Traumatized by this experience when she felt completely powerless and out of control, the Narrator has also lost trust in society and

Rölvaag s Giants in the Earth portray the difficulties of everyday life in unexplored territory, with similar themes and context. Although the overarching themes of both novels are similar, the manner in which characters behave with each other, the dependency families have on each other, and the ability of individuals to mitigate conflict is different. Both My Ántonia and Giants in the Earth portray an array of sources causing conflict in relationships. However, they differ in the motivations of characters and intent of individual action. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Instead of attempting to resolve the conflict, viewing the Shimerdas as foreign and distant provides a perspective that justifies violence. This is demonstrated as [Jake] landed Ambrosch a blow on the head (83). Jake is able to justify the violence to himself, because the wrongdoing of Ambrosch is amplified by nativism. Giants in the Earth conveys a greater sense of difference a racialized depiction between us and them with a frenzied panic from Per Hansa s family accompanying the appearance of Indians. Fear of Indian s was common among settlers, who told stories of great massacres and atrocities committed by tribes. When Indians approach, Per Hansa and neighboring settlers are indignant, stating that there isn t any doubt the land they inhabit is theirs fearing the Indians may steal it or attack his family (Rölvaag 73). Perception of Indians uncivilized and barbaric contribute to their fear, as they watched with anxious attention the Indian band as it crept up the slope of the hill towards the crest (68). Per Hansa creates greater distinction as he drew such ghastly pictures to Sam of the cruelty with which the Indians would probably treat the cows , bowing to racialized assumptions that Indians are savage (69). When he remarks that I guess we ll have to be satisfied with a scalp or two , he recognizes that scalping is the most dreadful thing in the world (71). His recognition of the atrocity only worsens his actions, as he deems scalping

Although he was a bit emotional, he moved on. Others also advocated a similar statement, But nearly everyone I ve spoke with, Adnan s friends and teachers say he took the breakup like anyone would. Adnan s friend Mac Francis said Adnan initially was devastated and jealous about the new boyfriend. Said he grumbled about it in a typical guy way, nothing strange. Everyone I talked to said some version of this, that he wasn t rage filled or vindictive. He was just sad (Episode 2: The Breakup p. 36). Sarah Koenig asked many people and none of them announced anything extreme between Adnan and Hae after their breakup. After analyzing these pieces of evidence, one can infer the claim of being upset over Hae isn t verified through anyone. Another component to Adnan s innocence would be Asia McClain and the library. Thereafter, a witness, Asia McClain, had physically spoken to Adnan when he allegedly murdered Hae. Asia McClain was a high schooler that attended Adnan s school and composed a couple letters to him after he was arrested. One of these letters reads, Dear Adnan I hope I

Thus, his buildings were very narrow and tall with an asymmetrical house design. Wright enjoyed designing buildings that were more progressive with low pitched roofs and an open floor plan. The firm was looking for someone to finish the drawings for the inside of an Auditorium Building. Wright was quickly chosen for the job and soon became an apprentice in the firm. While it only took Wright two hours to design, it took nearly 3 years to build the house because of conflicts between Wright and the construction contractor. The contractor thought Wright was inexperienced and doubted his choice of using reinforced concrete. Thus, to help settle any worries the contractor had, Kaufmann sent Wright s design to a firm of consulting engineers to approve of the said design. Once Wright heard this, he grew offended and threatened to leave the project if his drawings weren t returned. Kaufmann gave in to Wright s demands and ended up burying the consulting engineer s report within a stone wall of the house. Another conflict Kaufmann and Wright had dealt with supporting the West terrace. Kaufmann decided to instal a supporting wall underneath the West terrace because there was a noticeable sag after the concrete formwork was removed from the cantilever. Unfortunately for Kaufmann, Wright discovered this and secretly removed the top course of stones. After about a month, Kaufmann told Wright what he had done. In return, Wright showed Kaufmann what he himself had done and how for the past month the cantilever has held

The rainforest is predominately in Brazil, but also borders the countries of Peru, Columbia, Venezuela, Bolivia, Guyana, Suriname and French Guiana. The unique biosphere of the Amazon is a result of millions of years of evolution. The Amazon is a damp and wet climate; with so much rain the soils of the Amazon are thin, yet, they grow the some of the tallest trees on earth. In some parts of the rainforest, sandy soils are found, which have evolved through erosion over millions of years. The soils of the Amazon are the foundation of the rainforest and, although these soils have lost their mineral content and fertility, rich and lush rainforests grow on them (WWF, 2013). The atmosphere of the Amazon allows for organic matter to decompose expeditiously, creating high nutrient and fertile topsoil. Additionally, the same bag was brewed twice as opposed to one time. Both of the previous processes are done in order to get a more concentrated sample of caffeine. The hot water extraction is similar to brewing coffee because hot water is used so that the caffeine will be more solubilizable, however a larger amount of water is used to dilute the amount of caffeine. Another similarity is that when the hot water extraction has concluded, the coffee contained caffeine and other impurities such as tannins and cellulose. 2.The potassium carbonate used in this experiment is used as a base and reacts with the gallic acid in in the carboxylic acid of the hydrolyzed tannins. When the potassium carbonate reacts with the tannins it produced potassium salts that are water soluble. The research was conducted by conducting a survey. The survey was designed in such a way that every hospital had to answer the questions in the survey. Every hospital had been given six to eight copies of the questionnaire depending on the involvement of the hospital departments and the type of equipment s available for the survey and the maintenance strategies followed. After completing the questionnaires, approval was required from the hospital head who is responsible for every activity taking place in his hospital. The main study of this experiment is to check the non availability of the equipment or failure, which would risk the patient s life in danger. The rules and regulations or criteria for conducting the research on the criticality of the equipment is the risk of failure or breakdown of the equipment when it is used on a patient, the average time used for a patient, average number of patients used or serviced by the equipment, operational life of the equipment and the availability of alternative equipment in case of failure or malfunction at critical times. There are around 6782 devices were examined during the process. We have taken only 5 equipment s for the study in this paper. In the pilot project we have considered only 5 hospitals and five types of critical hospital equipment were examined and that had a non availability of high risk level. The equipment s are kidney dialysis, cardiac catheterization

They would get money from the government by getting them to buy their drilling rights, so the oil they get won t ruin the environment, where endangered species live, such as the Florida panther. Even after that, the man alerts the game warden that he sighted a panther in Section 22, and even gave them GPS coordinates. In case hikers stumble into their well somehow, Bayliss surveyed the area from a helicopter. Because Section 22 was on a wildlife preserve, they were endangered animals, like the Florida panther, the game wardens want to find it and protect it. To make sure the game wardens don t look for the panther and accidently find the pirate well, Bayliss shoots at the panther, but only to scare it away from the site. There was a school field trip in the swamp, and to prevent the chance of the kids finding the illegal drill site, Bayliss lit a controlled fire to scare them off. The smoke alerted them and they went back to the school. Torkelson, a fire investigator, says that a RDEC pen was found near where the fire started. To make Torkelson stop suspecting RDEC started the fire, Bayliss lied that he dropped it out of the helicopter and frames someone another suspect. Bayliss framed a former arsonist by taking his bag and putting a butane torch inside it, with no fingerprints on it, and then planted it near the place where the fire was set. This was to make it look like it was the bag of supplies used to start the fire. Jason Marshall checked where the torches could be bought and found 3 locations where the torches were sold. Only one store was open and it was the correct

  • 41. The Adaptive Identity The concern about identity is a major existential question. People recognize different objects by their sense, and thus consider their appearance, sound, or smell as their identities. In many cases, even though the physical traits of an object have changed, people still know the object. Therefore, these physical definitions of objects are not their identities. The connections of these characteristics, and furthermore of them and their inner self, define the uniqueness of an individual. Since the massive universe constantly moves toward entropy, the only consistency is change : caterpillars transform to butterflies, the ugly duckling turns into a beautiful swan, and I have become unacquainted with my mother language but more comfortable with English. Thus, I am concerned about my rising ignorance of my own culture and of my true being in the world. But in the poem Identity by A. R. Ammons, I find relief: identity holds its center within but proceeds to randomness on the exterior to adjust and adapt. The spiderand the spider webserve as extended metaphors that represent human beings and their identity. A spider makes web from its body and creates a place for itself in the world. Because the spider silkis formed in its body, it is a portrayal of the inner part of an individual; with the silk, spiders weave webs that identify a species (2). Mostly, they weave a special center (on which they rest), and leave a relatively large circular space around the beautiful

It says here that this temple is supposed to be dedicated to Apollo the Sun God she laughed, waving her guide book in the air. On another lazy afternoon by the pool, Clare, lounging beneath a sunshade, composed a short poem in blank verse. She felt that writing rhyming verse was sometimes too arduous a task. The poem was, as were all her poems, written for Rachel. She scribbled it down on the back of a postcard; deliberating afterwards whether to actually send it, even sticking a stamp on it and writing Rachel s address underneath: Forsaken You have forsaken me; I, who have loved you. But you will never admit to it. You just say I m busy when I call, In the forlorn hope that one day, You can find it in your heart to forgive. The core idea of these techniques is to control the IP network congestion level which is the main cause of delays/losses, and also imposes upper bounds on these events. Traffic policing is one of the techniques used for this purpose. These techniques makes the assumption that users generating flows/calls will specify the setup time by using Service Level Agreement (SLAs) i.e. the characteristics of the traffic that they emit to the network. Therefore, these techniques are employed to ensure that the generated traffic is within the conforms of previously agreed contracts. One of the most popular traditional traffic policing techniques is the Leaky Bucket (LB). Average rate and the maximum burst size/length of a
