The Impact Of Industrialization And The Impacts Of...
Impacts of Industrialization Industrialization began when Britain was eager to invest money into
creating machinery to make textiles to avoid paying India to export cotton textiles. Since the
British empire had a lot of power and had widespread colonization, they had the money to invest
in raw materials. In the late 1700 s Britain wanted to produce their own cotton textiles, so they
began exporting the raw material, cotton, to make textiles from India. In 1750 s textile mill were
created to be able to produce larger quantities of cotton textiles in a shorter amount of time through
the use of more complex machinery. While India continued to make cotton textiles by hand,
Britain no longer needed cotton from India when the advanced technology allowed for Britain to
rapidly produce cotton. After textile machines were produced, household became urbanized when
children needed to travel to factories in the cities to help produce cotton textiles. Clothes became
mass produced after textile mills, allowed for the clothes to be identically produce in large
quantities. Mass production of identical products causes the prices to drop because the advances in
technology reduces the amount of laborers needed to make the same product. More technological
advances revolutionized the work industry, people were trained to do one task repeatedly, being
apart of the assembly line. Families were divided when they no longer worked together on farms,
and children, women, and men took on different

How Did Martha Graham Contribute To Dance
I decided to research one of the most influential Modern Dance pioneers; Martha Graham. Graham
s contributions to dance has often been compared to Picasso s contributions to art and Stravinsky s
to music; in my opinion she opened up many new opportunities and possibilities for dance
including the ability to learn free expression and honesty through movement. Martha Graham was
born on May the 11th, 1894, in the suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Martha was one of George
and Jane Beers Graham s three daughters. Martha s father was a doctor who specialised in nervous
disorders. George Graham was interested in the prevention of these particular disorders through
physical activity; an idea that certainly interested Martha. It was part of... Show more content on

Beginning with her best students from the Eastman school of Music, Graham started her own (now
famous) school for contemporary dance; The Martha Graham School for Contemporary Dance in
New York, where she continued to teach and express her own unique style. Graham mainly
believed in expression through dance so she tried very hard to create movement that focused on the
realness of life; her dance movements flowed with beauty and emotion. Modern dance is freeness
and the ability to express joy, sadness, and determinedness and without Martha Graham s
influence on the art of dance, modern dance simply wouldn t be the same as it is today. Graham
also introduced the use of moving scenery, the use of props as symbols and dance that was
combined with speech. These were all large changes and opened more possibilities and
experiences to the world of dance. Graham also got rid of the classic ballet folk dress and instead
often chose a classy straight black dress for her movement pieces.
Some of Graham s key works included her leading role performance in Igor Stravinsky s American
premier of Rite of Spring (1930). Graham also toured America in her role in the production of
Electra for four years. During the tour, Graham began to show interest in the American Indians of
the South West. It was this

SOCIAL MEDIA MARKETING
How to set up a Google Plus personal profile from Wordtracker, the leading keyword research tools
Ready to get started with Google+? The following guide by blogging expert Kristi Hines will help
you set up your Google+ personal profile.
Signing up
To begin creating your Google+ account, sign in with your Google Account on the Google+ Start
Page If you don t have a Google Account, you will be directed to create one first.
Before you sign up (if you haven t already), here are a few things to keep in mind. You want to
link your Google+ personal profile to the Google Account you use the most in your personal life.
That way you have one login for your YouTube, Gmail, Calendar, Docs, and Google+ profile. This
will also mean that you can receive your Google+ notifications while logged in to these other
Google applications as well.
On the flip side, what you don t want to do is use a Google Account that is not permanently or
100% completely yours. If you have a Google Account for your business, for example, you might
not want to use that if others have to access that Google Account as well. Or if you have a
Google Account that will go away once you leave your job because it is linked to a corporate
email address, you will not want to use that either.
Creating Your Profile
The first step to creating your Google+ profile will be to add your profile photo. Be sure to use the

Gender And Gender Inequality
Long time ago, parents tended to invest on their sons rather than their daughters. In the past, most
of boys went to school, and girls stayed home. At that moment, the women were not treated equally
because they did not go outside to work. The women only stayed home to take care of children and
do housework, so they depended on their husband financially. Nowadays people have still treated
one another differently based on group identity, especially when it comes to genderappearances.
Gender inequality has been happening around the world, it still occurs at some careers,
workplaces, and at home. Culture has a great impact on gender inequality in some developing
countries. For instance, Vietnamese people like to have more sons rather than daughters because
they believe in raising a daughter is like watering your neighbors garden, and raising a daughter as
ploughing someone else s field (Jayachandran, 2014, p. 11). In Vietnam, parents usually invest
more on their sons rather than daughters because the sons play a significant role in religious rituals.
Jayachandran (2014) reported that sons will carry on the familyname or widows wanting to retain
family land also make the first son especially valuable (p.14). Therefore, the sons are valued in my
family. I still remember when I was a child, I saw my mother tried to be pregnant several times to
have baby boys. However, she had only one boys, and four girls accidently. When I was a little, I
noticed the gender was

Medieval Manor Pros And Cons
A medieval manor was a large agricultural estate that was made up of various types of farming
lands, a village where the current manor tenants would live, and a manor house where the lord
who owns or controls the estate lives. It was typically the wealthy who owned or had control over
any of the manors. Most manors were built of natural stone and were built to last. Their size usually
illustrated the owner s wealth.
During the 16th century, medieval manors were built by lords and ranged in size from 1,200 1,800
acres and were primarily used for agricultural purposes. There were a wide variety of people who
resided inside a medieval manor. The manor s lord acted as a direct line of communication to the
King. The vassal or liege , was known

Malcolm X Pilgrimage To America
On April 13, 1964, Malcolm X left America for the holy Pilgrimage in Mecca, a pilgrimage that
must be made by every able bodied Muslim. He landed in the Jeddah airport and noticed, Throngs
of people, obviously Muslims from everywhere, bound for the pilgrimage... were hugging and
embracing He had noticed the multitude of complexions and the masses of different people
coming together with no racial or social prejudice. He compared his spiritual effect as if had just
came out of prison. The overwhelming sense of brotherhood he felt was unparalleled to anything
he saw in America. As he entered he abandoned his spiffy black suit for the white ihram (a two
piece dress for men that covered the top and bottom and one long piece for women). The ihram
would be worn by all pilgrims and Malcolm Xpoints out that, You could be a king or a peasant
and no one would know , Islam reflects the equality of men before God. This pilgrimage to Mecca
was Malcolm s turning point in his, life, ideals and Malcolm X says the Holy City of Mecca had

During the last few years of his life he preached for equality between the races and people of
America. After pilgrimage, he had hoped for a peaceful solution to America s raceproblems. He
wanted for the unification of the whites and blacks in America a harmonious sync. Though his
blatant outright criticism of Jim Crow laws diminished, his message behind it flourished into life.
He called for a united America in the union and collaboration of all races and people who
believed in equality for all. He left the teachings and ideals of Muhammad Elijah who was head of
the Nation of Islam and thought that the white man was a devil . A message that Malcom X used
to believe wholeheartedly was now something he despised and preached against. His spirit of black
nationalism stopped during this period and he inspired the people to come together as

Importance Of Cultural Diversity In Schools
Cultural diversity has been an important topic amongst school systems for quite some time now.
There have been events that have occurred in history that have aided to the discussion, whether it is
positive or negative. Events that have stood out from the crowd include segregated schools that
wanted nothing to do with a race outside their own and schools that were eventually integrated but
not taught fairly to those amongst them. These events shaped the future for our school systems
today and as educators, it is our job to learn from them ourselves as well as educate students in
regards to this sensitive, very real manner.
Cultural diversity covers an array of areas. Culture in itself is, that complex whole which includes
knowledge, belief, arts, morals, laws, customs, and any other capabilities and habits acquired by
a human as a member of society, (UNESCO, n.d.). Different senses of culture are in multitude
when one takes a look at society as a whole. No two types of individuals, from different cultural
backgrounds, are the same on many different levels of living much less in school learning. This
area of importance begins in the classroom. For our students, cultural diversity is seen through
the lens of society, which is not always clear. As the teacher, an individual has to create a socially
accepted environment for each and every student that walks through his or her door on a daily
basis. In doing so, as a part of a lesson we will select groups and research key

Essay On Analysis Penetration
In life, I have stated that I am willing to try almost anything. This is generally true, moreover, I
love new experiences and the insights that they give me, but there were a few activities that I
was still unwilling to try for a variety of reasons. I have always been curious about anal
penetration. It was always something that I said I would NEVER do, but there was still something
that intrigued me about it. Over the course of the last few years, I have slowly started to become
more open to trying it. I thought through my hesitations about it and realized that I felt as though it
was predominantly societal pressure not to do it, which was ultimately stopping me. Furthermore, I
am a firm believer in not letting other people s views on me... Show more content on

I was able to be vulnerable and emotional with my partner. I felt like I could open up about what
was working and what wasn t without fear that they would become upset. I know deep down
that they would never get frustrated with me about something going wrong sexually, but I feel
like it has been ingrained in me to believe that they would. With the new found confidence that
my partner and I instilled in myself, we were able to end up trying anal penetration with a finger
about three weeks later. This was a wonderful experience. My partner gave me full control of
what was happening. It was an amazing way to try it for the first time. It is always important to
trust the person you are with and this experience reaffirmed my confidence in them. I haven t
been that sexually comfortable with another person in a long time. It is problematical in life to
say that something is acceptable or not for we each hold our own opinions. I do believe that
when it comes to matters of the bedroom that it is important to realize certain undertakings are
absolutely none of our business as a society. There seems to be this common misconception out
there, perpetuated by a phrase, that puts pressure on people to stay away from anal. This is an exit

believes, is accompanied by an ambivalence and emotional charge, which makes this conversation

Andrew Barton Banjo Paterson (17 February 1864 5 February 1941) was an Australian bush poet,

This change of pronouns gives a sense of the other , a separate entity. Through this otherness, he
betrays a feeling of superiority. His sometime overuse of victorious terminology shows complete
silencing of the actual circumstances of the war, which then sounds slightly superficial, therefore
betraying superiority.
Paterson s other purpose of this text is to promote nationalism amongst Australian men, persuading
them to enlist. He deliberately emphasises on how everyone in Australia is an Australian, through
this line English, Scotch, and Irish bred, They re all Australians now! This would make everyone at
the time feel obliged to join.
His victorious tone also conveys also conveys the glory and honour that accompanies being a
soldier. The actual hardships of the war which would dissuade enlisting if mentioned, is deliberately
silenced by Paterson.
The careful choices of literary devices Paterson had successfully conveyed his underlying purpose
to the reader. This text also paints a picture of the mood of one of the facets of Australians in the
war which is the main focus of this poem.

A Study On Childhood Cancer
Background
A study was conducted in Sierra Vista, Arizona and Churchill County, Nevada
concerning an increase in childhood cancer cases between the age of 0.8 and 12.8 years old.
Between the two locations, 14 children with Leukemia were chosen to take place in this study.
The children were compared based off of demographics, urinary and blood levels (metals,
tungsten, pesticides, etc.) as well as location of residence compared to the rest of the U.S.
Population. Variables were used in the determination of whether or not environmental exposure
was the cause of the increase in cancer related cases among children and to determine if this was
indeed a cancer cluster. The results indicated that these findings were not a cancer cluster, but
yet individual cancer cases.
Discussion
The statistical test that was done for table 3 was the geometric mean in order to compare
the three groups. This type of test takes the average of a set of numbers. It is derived by taking
the nth root of the product of n numbers. The geometric means of urinary levels of tungsten in
Sierra Vista, AZ and Churchill County, NV were compared with the levels in the U.S.
population. The test determined that only 20% of the children in AZ had higher levels of
tungsten and about half had levels below the national average. The data for Sierra Vista and
Churchill County are not statistically significant; however, the data for the U.S. Population is
statistically

Maya Number 4 Essay
To many people and cultures, the topic of numbers may seem to have limited to a nonexistent
symbolic relationship or importance. Numbers seem to have the sole purpose to act in
mathematics. Many people would not consider a number to be the center of their actions or daily
thoughts. Regardless, the Maya people holds one numberabove all near and dear to its heart. The
number four in Maya culture and literature keeps recurring in many texts. The two primary
examples of addressing the importance of the number four can be seen in the sacred Popol Vuh
and the popular play of the Rabinal Achi. In a close analyzation of the number four, it can be
confirmed that it holds great influence on the Maya people. This can be stated because the number

characters then only move in a line from north to south (and vice versa) on each half of the stage.

Cause And Effect Of Cocaine
One of the most detrimental and addictive narcotics in the world today is cocaine. Cocaine dates
back as early as 3000 BC. Ancient Incas used the coca leaves to counter the effects of living in
thin mountain air. Native Peruvians in the 1500 s chewed the plant strictly for religious
ceremonies. Andean Indians are believed to chew the leaves of the coca plant to increase their
energy for work while decreasing their hunger and pain. It wasn t until 1859 when a German
chemist Albert Niemann successfully extracted the narcotic from the coca leaf. In the 1880 s, it
was freely prescribed by physicians for maladies as exhaustion, depression, and morphine addiction
and was available in many patent medicines ( Cocaine), until users and doctors began to realize its
dangers and side effects. While it was not fully understood at the time, cocaine has many
devastating and lasting effects on the user.
Today, cocaine is commonly derived from the coca plant that is most commonly grown in
Columbia but also Peru and Bolivia. It is harvested and processed into a coca paste which the
base of is extracted and turned into the white powder form of cocaine. Once the powder is made
it is often mixed with laundry detergent, laxatives, or boric acid to cut down the potency and have
more to distribute. Cocaine can be used snorting, smoking, injecting or swallowed. The United
States outlawed cocaine in the early 1920 s but it wasn t until the 1970 s and middle of the 1980 s

Axon Annual Financial Report
In the quest to develop safer use of force options for law enforcement the concept of
neuromuscular incapacitation technology was produced leading to the development of a Taser or

Axon company which continues to develop tasers and web based applications for law enforcement
it is important to look at the company reports, specifically focusing on the annual financial report

Furthermore, there were additional financial statement in the annual report which further explained
operations and comprehensive income. About the statement of cash flow, it appeared the indirect
method was used based on the example comparisons with the text (Hicks Hicks, 2014). Thus,
further research was completed on the details presented in the indirect cash flow statement which
consist of noncash operating included in net income or loss (Foerster, Tsagarelis, Wang, 2017).
Namely, the direct method appears more straight forward with presenting information for operating
cash receipts and payment. While attempting to asses if Axon is a company worth investing in it
would appear looking at a direct method cash flow statement would be more beneficial. The indirect
cash flow statement derives net cash flow from operating activities without separately presenting
any of the operating cash receipts and payments. Although the Financial Accounting Standards
Board (FASB) sees accruals as improving the ability of earnings to measure company performance
by smoothing out temporary fluctuations in cash flows, we see the lack of cash inflows from the
tardy customer and the resulting inconsistent presentation across several financial statements as
fertile ground for security mispricing. (Foerster et al., 2017, p. 74). Therefore, it would be benefit

Film Analysis Of Babakiueria
Babakiueria revolves around a role reversal society in which white people are treated unfairly.
Throughout the film commentator, Duranga Manika, strives to explain the Babakiuerians way of
life, however she fails to apply a willingness to fully understand certain aspects of their life so
judgment can be rendered fairly. As the white peopleare not highly valued in this society it is
reflected in the way the governmenttreats them and how Manika describes them. In this film as
Manika attempts to inform the viewers of how white people go about their lives she lacks an
essence of qualities that are critical to gaining an empathetic understanding of other people s
faith. For instance, as Manika is watching the white men bet on horses she expresses a lack of
careful observing in regard to the activity of horse racing. She describes the horse races as a religion
to these folks, that they exchange all their earned money for prayer tokens and bow their heads
in ritual as they watched trained horses run around a circle (Babakiueria,10:03). While bowing
the head they pray for success, wealth and happiness in the future as if they rely solely on
outcomes of the race to bring them triumph in life. Manika is failing to see the social aspect of
this activity; careful observing, reading and listening necessitate sympathetic imagination, which
requires projecting ourselves into the viewpoint of others and trying to see the world from their
perspective (Kessler, 6). The way that Manika is clearly not attempting to see the races from the
mens prospective exhibits how she is fails to apply careful observing, reading and listening. In
addition, as the film articulates its ambition to bulldoze the highway roads with replacement of a
park, critical intelligence failed to be applied. The Babakiuerian s hope to show future generations
what the area used to look like by demolishing an entire freeway, opposition from the white protest
group state that important trade routes will be interrupted and the area should remain the same
(Babakiueria, 13:10). Manika also claims that the white people oppose the new park because they
simply cherish being the most polluted society in the world as if that is why they disagree rather

Diffuse axonal injury is typically observed using diffusion tensor imaging (1). Impairment of brain

by exposing rodents to varying conditioned stimuli like electric shock or loud noises, the elevated

The Causes And Cons Of Chemistry In Chemistry
After completion of the transesterification reaction employed at the optimal conditions, the catalyst
was collected from the reactant mixture by filtration; the catalyst was washed with hexane several
times to remove the adhered oil particles, and then dried at 110В°C for 2 hr. The catalyst was
reused several times without further treatment to obtain FAME from WCSO.
To evaluate catalyst stability, the optimum amount of CaO that was obtained by examining the
operating condition was stirred with 38ml methanol at the optimum conditions obtained. After the
catalyst was separated, methanol was mixed with 30 ml WCSO and the reaction was carried out
under the optimum conditions, 65В°C, methanol: oil ratio 30:1, 3 hr. and 300 rpm.
3.Results and discussion
3.1 Catalyst characterization
The synthesized CaO catalyst was subjected to different temperatures and times of calcination. The
calcination time and temperature change the catalyst structure; consequently, this affects catalyst
activity and the concentration of FAMEs produced. The impact of different calcination
temperatures, 700 В°C, 750 В°C, 800 В°C, 850 В°C, and 900 В°C, and durations, 1, 2, 3, 4, and

With the increasing number of families that have two working parents in a family children would
want to seek attention from parents at any rate they can. If parents spank them when they
misbehave, misbehaving constantly can make them feel somehow connected with parents.
Sometimes spanking a child is necessary to bring attention to the child when they are constantly
misbehaving. Some parents believe spanking is a great way to discipline a child because they
would become more obedient. For instance, many parents use corporal punishment as a last resort,
some parents may reluctantly spank their children because they cannot think of what else to do to
show the child the seriousness of his or her misbehavior (encyclopedia, 2003) Parents use
spanking a child as a way to make children act the way they are supposed to act. Many children go
wild, since they have never received any real punishment from either parent other than just getting
grounded for misbehaving. Sometimes parents lose control of their children due to the lack of
disciplinary skills. When parents lack disciplinary skills the children tend to have control of all
situations. For example, a child may be throwing food in the kitchen when they dislike the meal the
parent prepares. The parents do not use any act of physical punishment towards the children but
rather ground them when they misbehave. The

Introduction
This case study is about competition between American Airlines (AAL) and other airlines, as
well as the way AAL behaved in the face of new entries of low cost carriers (LLC) at AAL s Dallas

which American resumed its prior marketing strategy of reducing the number of flights and raising
its prices to levels comparable to those before the low fare competition. Over the period 1994 1999,
AAL have higher profit margins on routes without Southwest Airlinesor LCC competition, as it

Economies at the hub. Major airlines acquire and maintain large market shares at their hubs
even with higher prices and higher costs than competitors. For example, AAL has a price 31
percent price premium in DFW, a 70 percent share of the non stop passengers in DFW, and a
higher cost per available seat mile (ASM) due to union contracts. However, they achieve
economies of scope and scale that are not captured in the measures of cost per ASM (Edlin, Farrell,

beyond the hub, such as from Wichita to Dallas then to Miami.
The Wichita Dallas flight (known as upline) creates additional traffic and profits on AAL s

Ten Reasons Our Program Will Succeed On and Off the Field
As the new Athletic Director here at Calvary Christian School, I hope to give you all an
overview of my background and why I will help your kids grow as athletes and people. I was
born in Columbus, Georgia to Jerry and Kendall Ammons. I have one younger sibling, my little
brother Tyler. I was raised within a Christian home and accepted Christ as my Lord and Savior in
2003. I have strived since then to live my life according to the purpose that God has called me
upon. As an alumnus of Calvary Christian, I understand the difficulties of high school. I also

As we have just renovated our baseball field, added on to our new middle school, and created a
football field, we hope to continue to add on to our school. We hope to instill new fundraising
techniques that allow for us to achieve our new goals. Our new goals will boost our facilities
and draw even more students to our school. Our next projects include: the addition of a softball
field and club house, making the football field all turf, a new weight lifting facility, and a new
building for our high school. We look forward to our Knights Family, growing in size, while you
are apart of it.
Lastly, my fellow coaches and I have come up with a mission statement and bible verse that will
represent our goal for our student athletes. The mission statement states:
With emphasis on faith, academics, athletics, professionalism, servitude, and love for others, the
athletics department will show Christ in everything we do, on and off the field, and will show that

Maya Angelou Measure
In the autobiography I know why the caged bird sings by Maya Angelou, Marguerite sees Mrs.
Flowers as the measure of what a human being can be. Marguerite lives with her grandmother,
and looks up to a member of her neighborhood, Mrs. Flowers. The shame Marguerite has when
her grandmother speaks to Mrs. Flowers is astronomical. One day when Marguerite luckily gets
to go to the home of Mrs. Flowers, she is given books to read and remember and to Marguerite it
proved she liked her. The measure of a human being is different for everyone and it will reflect on
their actions.
Maya Angelou writes that Mrs. Flowers is the measure of what a human being can be to really
emphasize how good of a person Mrs. Flowers was and how much she looked up to her. Going
through what Maya Angelou did at such a young age battered her. Being a young woman she
needed someone to look up to, Mrs. Flowers became that person. With the charisma and manners
of Mrs. Flowers it is no wonder why she looked up to her. Now don t you look nice Mrs. Flowers
made Marguerite feel very special even with the simplest compliment. Mrs. Flowers, however isn t
just a nice person, but a wise one too. Words mean more than what is set down on paper.... Show

Cruelty And Cruelty In The Country Of Iraq
I am writing to inform you of the cruelty going on in the country of Iraq. I have been traveling
the country as a photographer and I have managed to earn the trust of Iraqi soldiers who are
performing acts of torture on prisoners. According to the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq, Iraq
has one of the world s oldest cultural histories, boasts a rich heritage and has a long reflected
cultural diversity. Although Iraqis generally are a religious and conservative people, there are
strong secular tendencies in the country. (See Fig. 1)

Torture has always been apart of Iraq s along with many other countries cultures. Even though Iraq
has been a part of the Iraqi people s history, it still goes against the rights of men and women to be
imprisoned with no probable cause and then tortured until the government or another individual can
get information out of the prisoners whether it is true or not.
In Kenny Paul D. article The Meaning of torture , he states that torture is the action or practice
of inflicting severe pain on someone as a punishment or to force them to do or say something.
There are many different types of torture from rape, to both physical and mental torture.
According to Mosul Torture Exposed, prisoners in Iraq were hung from the ceiling with their
arms tied behind their backs. The men and women who are imprisoned, are whipped, shocked,
raped, and the Iraqis who were performing the torture would add weights to the men s backs that
they hung from the ceiling. (See Fig. 2) The Iraqi soldiers also threatened the men s families by
saying that they would kill or rape the women if they did not confess to the crimes the men had
committed, whether the accusations were true or not. Fig. 2. Man who has been hung from the

Reflection Paper On Refugees
The first day of my internship at the Refugee Legal Service in Dublin, Ireland I learned the
difference between watching news clips on refugees, and what it meant to actually go through
the whole process. The asylum process is a painstaking, time consuming, and emotional ordeal.
During my time there, I ended up meeting with dozens of refugees, but there was one event that
I can still remember clearly. I was invited to help work on a case involving a woman and her son
fleeing from South Africa due to facial scarring on the first born child. After a meeting with
several members of our legal team, I reached out to the caseworker and asked if there was
anything extra I could do to help their case. She asked that I try to find more evidence to support
the claim that facial scarring was still going on in the village the family was from. After
spending days researching the area the village was in, I was able to find other accounts of facial
scarring. Because of my extra efforts that helped her case, I was invited to attend the hearing at
the High Court. This opportunity was incredible and overwhelming and I know this was only a
fraction of the work that you have to go through to be granted asylum. The hearing was eight
hours, long and I was one of the few people allowed to sit in the back of the courtroom and take
notes. Throughout the entire day it was interesting to see how the asylum process actually works,
as opposed to hearing or reading about it. During the lunch break I

Film As Art And Abdellatif Kechiche s Blue Is The Warmest...
Within my Film Theory essay, the two theories which I will be exploring in depth is Rudolf
Arnheim s essay Film as art and Laura Mulvey s Visual pleasure and Narrative Cinema . These
two different theories will be applied in relation to Abdellatif Kechiche s Blue is the Warmest
Colour (2013).
Introduction:
In the essay s inception, an overview of both theories will be established in a summary. Within this
introduction, I intend to make my thesis and intentions of the essay s outcome clear. The main
intention that I will explore within my essay is how Mulvey and Arnheim s theories relate in a
contemporary context. With special attention paid in regard to Blue is the Warmest Colour as my
case study a film which attempts to authentically represent a lesbian relationship. However, is often
considered and criticised as having a dominance of the male gaze, despite the films intentions and
audience.
Body of paragraphs:
An alternation between the two theories in each paragraph will be employed in order to draw
similarities and differences between the theories. Furthermore, an aspect which I believe is vital
within my essay and likewise any essay regarding the advancements in film theory is the
consideration of the historical, political and cultural context in which the theorists were writing. A
thirty two year old British woman, Laura Mulvey writing in the mid 1970 s a peak point for the
movement of second wave feminism. In contrast with German born Rudolf Arnheim, writing in the
early 1930 s in the wake of sounds introduction to cinema.
The two theories, although from vastly different backgrounds, addressing vastly different issues,
align in consideration of the film I have chosen in my case study Blue is the Warmest Colour.
Blue is the Warmest Colour has been accused by feminists as being a film marketed to women and
lesbians made by men objectifying the women and actresses on screen through the male gaze rather
than the female gaze. The film has also garnered controversy through its sexually explicit scenes. In
one scene in particular, there is a 10 minute sex scene between the protagonist Adele and Emma
whereby the two straight actresses simulated lesbian sex. The actresses since accused the director

The Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors Act was introduced in 2001, with yet
to be completely passed into law, and was created in order to allow current, former, and future
undocumented high school graduates and GED recipients to pursue a three step pathway to gain
U.S. citizenship through work, college, or the armed services. The first step of this plan regards
the recipient s conditional permanent residence, meaning they have residential status for up to
eight years. Secondly, the recipient must soon be granted lawful permanent residence, or a green
card. And lastly, they can apply for citizenship after 5 years with their green card. To qualify for

Annually, there are close to 65,000 undocumented immigrants who graduate high school or earn

are forced to pay out of state tuition despite how long they may or may not have lived in that
state (Bennion). Regardless of their residential status, Dreamers are capable of being honor
students, athletes, valedictorians, all of the above, and everything a permanent citizen is able
to assume the role of. They are just as intelligent, and if we provide to them the same resource as
those who are legal are given, they could truly become a role model to many alike. On top of
everything, it is already challenging for a Dreamer to get a job thanks to their status as a citizen,

Classical Imagery in Shakespeare s Much Ado About Nothing...
Classical Imagery in Shakespeare s Much Ado About Nothing
The romance of history has lured many of the world s greatest authors to search for their subject
matter in the pages of time. William Shakespeare serves as a unfailing embodiment of the emotion
of days past; yet he also turned to those before him. The comedy Much Ado About Nothing is a
poignant love story, riddled with stunning imagery and allusion. An examination of the development
of certain characters, the imagery and allusion, diction, and structure illustrate that the author wrote
in a style heavily influenced by the classical movement of Ancient Greece and Rome. The classical
thread strengthens the tapestry which is Much Ado About Nothing.

The play was written in 1598 during the reign of Elizabeth I of England. The following statement
certainly rings true of William Shakespeare:
English authors in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries made extensive use of classical
mythology, in drama and narrative poems, as ornaments in lyric poetry, and by means of
mythological allusion in prose and verse works.1
The mythology of Ancient Greece and Rome appears in the characterization, imagery, allusion, and
theme of this play. The references to the classical period are both bold and subtle as Shakespeare
weaves them into the work.
The opening scene immediately sets the stage as well as introduces the characters and their
relationships, thus allowing the playwright to ply his stylistic trade.
Shakespeare uses a subtle ploy: the setting of the scene is Italy, which was the very heart of the
classical world. Messina seems to exist as a peaceful town, nestled in nature. The pastoral setting is
characteristic of the Renaissance movement which itself was a return to the classical glorification
of nature. As the play unravels, it becomes evident that many conventions were selected due to their
specifically classical undertones.
The beginning is reminiscent of the epic genre: the first scene starts in medias res with the
announcement of Don Pedro s triumph in battle. The epic style is characterised as possessing a
hero of great national or even cosmic importance, a setting ample in scale,

Two Layer Floodgate Lab Report
Two Layer Floodgate Can an increase of layers on a floodgate improve the performance of the
floodgate? If a second layer of popsicle sticks is added to a model floodgate made out of
popsicle sticks, then the two layer floodgate will be able to block more water. The control
variables for this experiment include where both tests were conducted (bathtub), the materials
used for each floodgate (same brand of popsicle sticks), the 20x6.x8.5 floral foam blocks on each
side of the bathtub, the location in the bathtub that the floodgates were placed in; all of these
variables were the same for each experiment. The independent variable was how many liters of
water in the bathtub at one time. The dependent variable was the amount of water the floodgate
held back (measured in how high the water level was on the south end of the bathtub). The
floodgate with one layer was the control group; the two layered one was the experimental group.
The first procedure for this experiment was to gather your materials. Next was to build the
floodgates and set up the bathtub. To conduct the experiment, pour 2 liters of water into the bathtub
from the south end at a time, and log the results. The first design of this experiment involved no

The design of the floodgates couldn t help but be flawed. No popsicle sticks will be created
completely the same. Therefore, when hot gluing them together, they won t match up perfectly,
and this will create small gaps that water can creep through. Also, the popsicle sticks may have
shifted before the glue was dry. The clay may have also let water through it. The clay was not
allowed to dry and stick to the bathtub before the experiment, and that was probably the problem.
Water may have evaporated or been absorbed by the floral foam or clay. All of these variables could

Andrew Carnegie Gospel Of Wealth
Andrew Carnegie was a Scottish immigrant, born in 1835. His first foray into the world of work
was as a bobbin boy, at the age of 13, where he earned $1.20 per week. Carnegie quickly gained
skills and proved his work ethic, until he landed a job with the Pennsylvania Railroad, and was
promoted to superintendent by the age of 24 (Carnegie.org, 2015). From there, Carnegie s vision
and success grew exponentially, and now his name is often mentioned alongside the likes of
Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, and Cornelius Vanderbilt (Biography.com, 2017). With great success,
came great wealth, and Carnegie developed very clear ideas concerning how wealth should be

The 2016 election saw a candidate, Bernie Sanders, whose views many considered to border on
socialism. (Sanders asserts he is actually a Democratic Socialist.) Sanders views brought the
debate over capitalism vs. socialism closer to the forefront of American politics than it has ever
been. Carnegie seemed to be like minded. When asked in an interview if he was a Socialist, he
did not answer directly, but made the following statement, I believe socialism is the grandest
theory ever presented, and I am sure some day it will rule the world... Then men will be content to
work for the general welfare and share their riches with their neighbors (Nassaw, 2006). Obviously,
Carnegie s prediction has yet to come to fruition in the United States. While Sanders had (and still
has) many staunch supporters, his ideals drew much criticism from those who argued that they
incentivized failure. Interestingly, Carnegie drew a distinction between how one gains wealth, and
the effect this may have on how he spends his money. There are those who inherit wealth; they are
the most likely to spend frivolously. To the contrary, those who earn money through hard work,
develop a greater appreciation for money. He further encouraged those with great wealth to set an
example of modest, unostentatious living, shunning display or extravagance (Carnegie, 1901).
Facets of today s society can be seen praising pretension, and encouraging flashiness or frivolity. As

Character Analysis Of Albrecht Duerer s Lot And Children
In the gallery room for 16th century German art, a single column stands towards a wall, facing the
entrance directly. The translucent ceiling above has many small lamps facing in different directions
to light the room, but the one aiming directly at the front of this painting is noticeably brighter than
the rest. Albrecht Duerer s Madonnaand Child is illuminated with such ferocity from above that its
angled, bronze painted frame casts a shadow both on the painting and on the column below.
Surrounding this painting is the taupe grey of the column, which has a slightly deeper surface for
the painting to hang on; while the painting is hung slightly below eye level for many, the column
is much taller and features a light cornice at its peak. However, the reverse of this structure is
important, for it also features the reverse of the painting itself Albrecht Duerer s Lot and his
Daughters. In stark contrast to its obverse, this painting is cast in shadow. A small window slightly
larger than the painting itself displays it, and there is absolutely no ceiling lighting highlighting this
work at all, with the harsh lighting for the front painting worsening the ability to examine this one.
Upon closer inspection, it seems that there is a light within the window itself, providing a soft glow
from the top down. However, this lighting was not functional on several occasions in November of
2017, while its surrounding paintings were still more illuminated; the wall behind the column is

Supernatural. Eric Kripke the program creator and his many writers have done more than
excellence with the story of Supernatural and its thirteen season mess so far. There are many
different reasons on why this is the best television show ever known to mankind. Let alone the

They say that the show is being squeezed out for every ounce of juice it has to offer. I mean the
main characters Sam and Dean have died a total of 117 times. They ve been offed by everything
from a taco to Hellhounds to run of the mill gunshot wounds. Even Mark Sheppard said on June

Jacket Analysis
What sections of the Jacket do you enjoy reading? Why? Everything, I think I ve read an article
from every section and I think they are all good. I enjoy reading about the school because it
helps me understand what it will be like next year at the school What do you think are the Jacket
s strengths? What could be improved? I ve only read about thirty articles of the Jacket, and I
have loved every single one. They are so educational and professional! Everything is well written
and well researched. Even the opinion articles take a look at both sides. What could be improved?
I have no idea. Everything seems well written and thought out. It would be cool if there was a
youtube channel, where articles are translated into video form, but it seems unlikely. Why do you
want to join the Jacket? (Be honest)... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I also love doing research, I just finished my isearch and I had so much fun finding someone to
interview and arranging a meeting with him. Also the idea of me writing something on a
newspaper that has existed since 1912 and the whole school reading it makes me so excited.
What skills do you possess that you feel would make you a good writer? How would you use
these skills to contribute to the Jacket? I have a good vocabulary, I can find reliable sources, I
enjoy interviewing people and can get them to relax and answer questions honestly. I have
already worked in a newspaper and I really enjoyed it. Because of my experience I can write
unbiasedly. I am always on time and I don t mind putting my lunch hours to use and working on
the jacket. I also am prettie gud at da spelling and da grammar. Describe any passions, hobbies, or
activities (other than writing) that you engage in either at Berkeley High or outside of

French Revolution. Philosophers from the 1700s influenced the making of two documents known
as United States Declaration of Independence and France s Declaration of the Rights of Man and

John Locke Believed that everyone was created equal with the same three natural rights. The

The American colonist separated from Britain because King George 3rd was not governing the
people correctly. For example, he created Taxation without Representation . Taxation without
Representation is when the American Colonist were being taxed unfairly. John Locke believed the
government was there to protect the people, and if they were not being protected they have the

  • 2. The Impact Of Industrialization And The Impacts Of... Impacts of Industrialization Industrialization began when Britain was eager to invest money into creating machinery to make textiles to avoid paying India to export cotton textiles. Since the British empire had a lot of power and had widespread colonization, they had the money to invest in raw materials. In the late 1700 s Britain wanted to produce their own cotton textiles, so they began exporting the raw material, cotton, to make textiles from India. In 1750 s textile mill were created to be able to produce larger quantities of cotton textiles in a shorter amount of time through the use of more complex machinery. While India continued to make cotton textiles by hand, Britain no longer needed cotton from India when the advanced technology allowed for Britain to rapidly produce cotton. After textile machines were produced, household became urbanized when children needed to travel to factories in the cities to help produce cotton textiles. Clothes became mass produced after textile mills, allowed for the clothes to be identically produce in large quantities. Mass production of identical products causes the prices to drop because the advances in technology reduces the amount of laborers needed to make the same product. More technological advances revolutionized the work industry, people were trained to do one task repeatedly, being apart of the assembly line. Families were divided when they no longer worked together on farms, and children, women, and men took on different ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. How Did Martha Graham Contribute To Dance I decided to research one of the most influential Modern Dance pioneers; Martha Graham. Graham s contributions to dance has often been compared to Picasso s contributions to art and Stravinsky s to music; in my opinion she opened up many new opportunities and possibilities for dance including the ability to learn free expression and honesty through movement. Martha Graham was born on May the 11th, 1894, in the suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Martha was one of George and Jane Beers Graham s three daughters. Martha s father was a doctor who specialised in nervous disorders. George Graham was interested in the prevention of these particular disorders through physical activity; an idea that certainly interested Martha. It was part of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Beginning with her best students from the Eastman school of Music, Graham started her own (now famous) school for contemporary dance; The Martha Graham School for Contemporary Dance in New York, where she continued to teach and express her own unique style. Graham mainly believed in expression through dance so she tried very hard to create movement that focused on the realness of life; her dance movements flowed with beauty and emotion. Modern dance is freeness and the ability to express joy, sadness, and determinedness and without Martha Graham s influence on the art of dance, modern dance simply wouldn t be the same as it is today. Graham also introduced the use of moving scenery, the use of props as symbols and dance that was combined with speech. These were all large changes and opened more possibilities and experiences to the world of dance. Graham also got rid of the classic ballet folk dress and instead often chose a classy straight black dress for her movement pieces. Some of Graham s key works included her leading role performance in Igor Stravinsky s American premier of Rite of Spring (1930). Graham also toured America in her role in the production of Electra for four years. During the tour, Graham began to show interest in the American Indians of the South West. It was this ... • 5. Gender And Gender Inequality Long time ago, parents tended to invest on their sons rather than their daughters. In the past, most of boys went to school, and girls stayed home. At that moment, the women were not treated equally because they did not go outside to work. The women only stayed home to take care of children and do housework, so they depended on their husband financially. Nowadays people have still treated one another differently based on group identity, especially when it comes to genderappearances. Gender inequality has been happening around the world, it still occurs at some careers, workplaces, and at home. Culture has a great impact on gender inequality in some developing countries. For instance, Vietnamese people like to have more sons rather than daughters because they believe in raising a daughter is like watering your neighbors garden, and raising a daughter as ploughing someone else s field (Jayachandran, 2014, p. 11). In Vietnam, parents usually invest more on their sons rather than daughters because the sons play a significant role in religious rituals. Jayachandran (2014) reported that sons will carry on the familyname or widows wanting to retain family land also make the first son especially valuable (p.14). Therefore, the sons are valued in my family. I still remember when I was a child, I saw my mother tried to be pregnant several times to have baby boys. There have been events that have occurred in history that have aided to the discussion, whether it is positive or negative. Events that have stood out from the crowd include segregated schools that wanted nothing to do with a race outside their own and schools that were eventually integrated but not taught fairly to those amongst them. These events shaped the future for our school systems today and as educators, it is our job to learn from them ourselves as well as educate students in regards to this sensitive, very real manner. Cultural diversity covers an array of areas. Culture in itself is, that complex whole which includes knowledge, belief, arts, morals, laws, customs, and any other capabilities and habits acquired by a human as a member of society, (UNESCO, n.d.). Different senses of culture are in multitude when one takes a look at society as a whole. No two types of individuals, from different cultural backgrounds, are the same on many different levels of living much less in school learning. This area of importance begins in the classroom. For our students, cultural diversity is seen through the lens of society, which is not always clear. Over the course of the last few years, I have slowly started to become more open to trying it. A Study On Childhood Cancer Background A study was conducted in Sierra Vista, Arizona and Churchill County, Nevada concerning an increase in childhood cancer cases between the age of 0.8 and 12.8 years old. Between the two locations, 14 children with Leukemia were chosen to take place in this study. The children were compared based off of demographics, urinary and blood levels (metals, tungsten, pesticides, etc.) as well as location of residence compared to the rest of the U.S. Population. Variables were used in the determination of whether or not environmental exposure was the cause of the increase in cancer related cases among children and to determine if this was indeed a cancer cluster. The results indicated that these findings were not a cancer cluster, but yet individual cancer cases. Discussion The statistical test that was done for table 3 was the geometric mean in order to compare the three groups. This type of test takes the average of a set of numbers. It is derived by taking the nth root of the product of n numbers. The geometric means of urinary levels of tungsten in Sierra Vista, AZ and Churchill County, NV were compared with the levels in the U.S. population. Andean Indians are believed to chew the leaves of the coca plant to increase their energy for work while decreasing their hunger and pain. It wasn t until 1859 when a German chemist Albert Niemann successfully extracted the narcotic from the coca leaf. In the 1880 s, it was freely prescribed by physicians for maladies as exhaustion, depression, and morphine addiction and was available in many patent medicines ( Cocaine), until users and doctors began to realize its dangers and side effects. While it was not fully understood at the time, cocaine has many devastating and lasting effects on the user. • 17. Film Analysis Of Babakiueria Babakiueria revolves around a role reversal society in which white people are treated unfairly. Throughout the film commentator, Duranga Manika, strives to explain the Babakiuerians way of life, however she fails to apply a willingness to fully understand certain aspects of their life so judgment can be rendered fairly. As the white peopleare not highly valued in this society it is reflected in the way the governmenttreats them and how Manika describes them. In this film as Manika attempts to inform the viewers of how white people go about their lives she lacks an essence of qualities that are critical to gaining an empathetic understanding of other people s faith. For instance, as Manika is watching the white men bet on horses she expresses a lack of careful observing in regard to the activity of horse racing. She describes the horse races as a religion to these folks, that they exchange all their earned money for prayer tokens and bow their heads in ritual as they watched trained horses run around a circle (Babakiueria,10:03). While bowing the head they pray for success, wealth and happiness in the future as if they rely solely on outcomes of the race to bring them triumph in life. Manika is failing to see the social aspect of this activity; careful observing, reading and listening necessitate sympathetic imagination, which requires projecting ourselves into the viewpoint of others and trying to see the world from their perspective (Kessler, 6). The way that Manika is clearly not attempting to see the races from the mens prospective exhibits how she is fails to apply careful observing, reading and listening. In addition, as the film articulates its ambition to bulldoze the highway roads with replacement of a park, critical intelligence failed to be applied. The Babakiuerian s hope to show future generations what the area used to look like by demolishing an entire freeway, opposition from the white protest group state that important trade routes will be interrupted and the area should remain the same (Babakiueria, 13:10). The catalyst was reused several times without further treatment to obtain FAME from WCSO. To evaluate catalyst stability, the optimum amount of CaO that was obtained by examining the operating condition was stirred with 38ml methanol at the optimum conditions obtained. After the catalyst was separated, methanol was mixed with 30 ml WCSO and the reaction was carried out under the optimum conditions, 65В°C, methanol: oil ratio 30:1, 3 hr. and 300 rpm. 3.Results and discussion 3.1 Catalyst characterization The synthesized CaO catalyst was subjected to different temperatures and times of calcination. • 23. Maya Angelou Measure In the autobiography I know why the caged bird sings by Maya Angelou, Marguerite sees Mrs. Flowers as the measure of what a human being can be. Marguerite lives with her grandmother, and looks up to a member of her neighborhood, Mrs. Flowers. The shame Marguerite has when her grandmother speaks to Mrs. Flowers is astronomical. One day when Marguerite luckily gets to go to the home of Mrs. Flowers, she is given books to read and remember and to Marguerite it proved she liked her. The measure of a human being is different for everyone and it will reflect on their actions. Maya Angelou writes that Mrs. Flowers is the measure of what a human being can be to really emphasize how good of a person Mrs. Flowers was and how much she looked up to her. Going through what Maya Angelou did at such a young age battered her. Being a young woman she needed someone to look up to, Mrs. Flowers became that person. With the charisma and manners of Mrs. Flowers it is no wonder why she looked up to her. Now don t you look nice Mrs. Flowers made Marguerite feel very special even with the simplest compliment. • 24. Cruelty And Cruelty In The Country Of Iraq I am writing to inform you of the cruelty going on in the country of Iraq. I have been traveling the country as a photographer and I have managed to earn the trust of Iraqi soldiers who are performing acts of torture on prisoners. According to the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq, Iraq has one of the world s oldest cultural histories, boasts a rich heritage and has a long reflected cultural diversity. Although Iraqis generally are a religious and conservative people, there are strong secular tendencies in the country. (See Fig. 1) Fig. 1: Iraq on a world map. Source: Iraq in the world May 4, 2011. November 1, 2017 (https:/ /commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Iraq_in_the_world_(W3).svg) Torture has always been apart of Iraq s along with many other countries cultures. Even though Iraq has been a part of the Iraqi people s history, it still goes against the rights of men and women to be imprisoned with no probable cause and then tortured until the government or another individual can get information out of the prisoners whether it is true or not. In Kenny Paul D. article The Meaning of torture , he states that torture is the action or practice of inflicting severe pain on someone as a punishment or to force them to do or say something. There are many different types of torture from rape, to both physical and mental torture. According to Mosul Torture Exposed, prisoners in Iraq were hung from the ceiling with their arms tied behind their backs. The men and women who are imprisoned, are whipped, shocked, raped, and the Iraqis who were performing the torture would add weights to the men s backs that they hung from the ceiling. • 25. Reflection Paper On Refugees The first day of my internship at the Refugee Legal Service in Dublin, Ireland I learned the difference between watching news clips on refugees, and what it meant to actually go through the whole process. The asylum process is a painstaking, time consuming, and emotional ordeal. During my time there, I ended up meeting with dozens of refugees, but there was one event that I can still remember clearly. I was invited to help work on a case involving a woman and her son fleeing from South Africa due to facial scarring on the first born child. After a meeting with several members of our legal team, I reached out to the caseworker and asked if there was anything extra I could do to help their case. She asked that I try to find more evidence to support the claim that facial scarring was still going on in the village the family was from. After spending days researching the area the village was in, I was able to find other accounts of facial scarring. Because of my extra efforts that helped her case, I was invited to attend the hearing at the High Court. This opportunity was incredible and overwhelming and I know this was only a fraction of the work that you have to go through to be granted asylum. The hearing was eight hours, long and I was one of the few people allowed to sit in the back of the courtroom and take notes. Throughout the entire day it was interesting to see how the asylum process actually works, as opposed to hearing or reading about it. During the lunch break I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Within my Film Theory essay, the two theories which I will be exploring in depth is Rudolf Arnheim s essay Film as art and Laura Mulvey s Visual pleasure and Narrative Cinema . These two different theories will be applied in relation to Abdellatif Kechiche s Blue is the Warmest Colour (2013). Introduction: In the essay s inception, an overview of both theories will be established in a summary. Within this introduction, I intend to make my thesis and intentions of the essay s outcome clear. The main intention that I will explore within my essay is how Mulvey and Arnheim s theories relate in a contemporary context. With special attention paid in regard to Blue is the Warmest Colour as my case study a film which attempts to authentically represent a lesbian relationship. However, is often considered and criticised as having a dominance of the male gaze, despite the films intentions and audience. Body of paragraphs: An alternation between the two theories in each paragraph will be employed in order to draw similarities and differences between the theories. Furthermore, an aspect which I believe is vital within my essay and likewise any essay regarding the advancements in film theory is the consideration of the historical, political and cultural context in which the theorists were writing. A thirty two year old British woman, Laura Mulvey writing in the mid 1970 s a peak point for the movement of second wave feminism. The comedy Much Ado About Nothing is a poignant love story, riddled with stunning imagery and allusion. The play was written in 1598 during the reign of Elizabeth I of England. The following statement certainly rings true of William Shakespeare: English authors in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries made extensive use of classical mythology, in drama and narrative poems, as ornaments in lyric poetry, and by means of mythological allusion in prose and verse works.1 The mythology of Ancient Greece and Rome appears in the characterization, imagery, allusion, and theme of this play. The references to the classical period are both bold and subtle as Shakespeare weaves them into the work. The opening scene immediately sets the stage as well as introduces the characters and their relationships, thus allowing the playwright to ply his stylistic trade. Shakespeare uses a subtle ploy: the setting of the scene is Italy, which was the very heart of the classical world. Messina seems to exist as a peaceful town, nestled in nature. The pastoral setting is characteristic of the Renaissance movement which itself was a return to the classical glorification of nature. As the play unravels, it becomes evident that many conventions were selected due to their specifically classical undertones. The beginning is reminiscent of the epic genre: the first scene starts in medias res with the announcement of Don Pedro s triumph in battle. If a second layer of popsicle sticks is added to a model floodgate made out of popsicle sticks, then the two layer floodgate will be able to block more water. The control variables for this experiment include where both tests were conducted (bathtub), the materials used for each floodgate (same brand of popsicle sticks), the 20x6.x8.5 floral foam blocks on each side of the bathtub, the location in the bathtub that the floodgates were placed in; all of these variables were the same for each experiment. The independent variable was how many liters of water in the bathtub at one time. The dependent variable was the amount of water the floodgate held back (measured in how high the water level was on the south end of the bathtub). The floodgate with one layer was the control group; the two layered one was the experimental group. The first procedure for this experiment was to gather your materials. Next was to build the floodgates and set up the bathtub. To conduct the experiment, pour 2 liters of water into the bathtub from the south end at a time, and log the results. There are those who inherit wealth; they are the most likely to spend frivolously. To the contrary, those who earn money through hard work, develop a greater appreciation for money. He further encouraged those with great wealth to set an example of modest, unostentatious living, shunning display or extravagance (Carnegie, 1901). The translucent ceiling above has many small lamps facing in different directions to light the room, but the one aiming directly at the front of this painting is noticeably brighter than the rest. Albrecht Duerer s Madonnaand Child is illuminated with such ferocity from above that its angled, bronze painted frame casts a shadow both on the painting and on the column below. Surrounding this painting is the taupe grey of the column, which has a slightly deeper surface for the painting to hang on; while the painting is hung slightly below eye level for many, the column is much taller and features a light cornice at its peak. In stark contrast to its obverse, this painting is cast in shadow. A small window slightly larger than the painting itself displays it, and there is absolutely no ceiling lighting highlighting this work at all, with the harsh lighting for the front painting worsening the ability to examine this one.
