Birth Control History
This essay will examine the demand for and prevalence of contraceptives in the United States.
The history of birth control in the U.S. begins long before the infamous 1973 Roe vs. Wade
Supreme Court decision affirming the legality of abortion. Birth control has not always been
accessible, safe or reliable. Despite many myths, there are a multitude of reasons why a woman
would choose to prevent or end a pregnancyincluding not being able to support a child.
Before examining birth control, it s important to first dispel the myth that birth control and
particularly abortion is only sought by modern, unmarried women who are more promiscuous than
women in earlier ages. America was never abstinent. It s a myth that more teens and young adults

Along with Katherine McCormick, the second female MIT graduate and a biologist, Sanger
found funding to support the pill s development. The pill s clinical trials were in Puerto Rico
because with its chronic overpopulation was far more accepting of birth control than the mainland
U.S. The largely poor women were not informed that they were taking part in an experiment. A
fifth of the women in the trial suffered side effects from nausea and headaches to high blood
pressure and potentially deadly blood clots. While Sanger s crusade to help impoverished women
improve their self efficiency through knowledge and access to safe birth control, the pill s trials
shamefully did the exact opposite.
Today reliable and birth control is accessible to most Americans and 8 of 10 women have taken oral
contraceptives at some point in their lives. Birth control methods are still rapidly evolving. Even in
1960, nearly all birth control methods were conducted during intercourse such as condoms. Now,
pregnancy prevention is taken beforehand with oral contraceptives, IUDs, female sterilization, and
vasectomies. Starting in the twentieth century, Birth control has allows women to control the
timing and number of births, the pill made it easier for women to enter and remain in the paid

The Negative Consequences Of Plagiarism In The Modern Age
Recent memory has been filled with technological advances following one after another; the twenty
first century has been an era in which change occurs at a nearly exponential rate. Each of these
advances has brought new opportunities for students and educators to further the learning
experiences. Few students can imagine a time before beneficial technologies like interactive white
boards or the near infinite resources held within the internet. However, these same resources which
can be positively used by students to supplements their educationcan also be used to unethically
benefit from the hard work of others. In the modern age, plagiarismis a tempting, easy, and
accessible ploy utilized by students across the world. In spite of the shifts in technology and
increased ease with which plagiarizers can operate, academia remains staunch in its stance against
the theft of other s intellectual property. At all educational levels, teachers still stress the
importance of using proper citations and the administrations of various high schools and colleges
have strict anti plagiarism policies. However, the methodologies of teachers and administrators have
changed to fit the times. In high school, many English teachers spend entire weeks teaching their
students the proper methods of citation on paper and using online resources. Likewise, school
officials explain to their students on a yearly basis the negative consequences of plagiarizing works

Abstract: Association rule mining can be used to extract patterns of a website visitors behaviour.
This data can be used to improve web marketing (e business) techniques or to improve the web
surfing experience. Here we are applying association rule on web usage log file of an institution.
We are using association rule as interesting measures and verifying their values in two different
period of time. We will see how this comparison brings extra important information about
association rules generation and helps a webmaster make more and more accurate decisions about
the website development and enhancements. Here our main aim is to remove user unwanted
uninterested rules and to replace them with new and most favourable patterns or we can say by
association rules. In this paper we are describing association rules mining approach.
Keywords: Web usage mining, association rules, interestingness measures, E business.

Leotard Research Paper
Leotards are a fundamental clothing item used many sports, mainly dance and gymnastics, which
allow the athlete to perform at their peak ability without restrictions. A leotard allows for fluidity
of movement and should also be light weight, stretchy, durable, and conform to the athlete s body
(1). Upon their first appearances in the sporting community, leotards were manufactured from
stretchy wool (1). However their increasing popularity later led to modifications in the choice of
material; leotards being made from cotton and spandex (1). Spandex, also known as lyrcra or
elastane, is a synthetic fibre which is produced from a long chain polymer called polyurethane (8).
Alternatively, cotton is a natural fibre made from glucose molecules which... Show more content on

This remarkable characteristic is due to the chemical composition of the polymer, as the fibres
are made of many polymer strands (8). These strands are comprised of two segments of a long,
amorphous segment and a short, rigid segment (8). The amorphous segments allows for the elastic
properties of spandex where the material can be continuously stretched and then return to their
original shape and size (8). This polymer also has useful features of being light weight, easily
dyed, abrasion resistant, and is unaffected by the harsh effects of perspiration, body oil, and
detergents (8). These attributes of spandex makes it a popular choice of material for sports

Narrative Essay About Playing Basketball
When I was younger, I became involved with a variety of sports and activities. I began my
involvement with sports by playing soccer at the age of four. After a year of playing soccer, I
transitioned to more feminine sports like dance and gymnastics. While I enjoyed dancing and
gymnastics, I was heavily influenced by my brother and his passions. I always wanted to do what
he did. I even played on his football team because tackling people seemed fun. He began to play
basketballand being the admirer that I was, I had to follow in his footsteps and start playing
basketball too. Little did I know, the very first moment I touched a basketball would have been one
of the biggest impacts on my life forever.
I was six years old and in the fourth grade when I decided I wanted to play basketball. One day
my brother was outside practicing with my dad, and my curiosity drew me outside to join them.
He was working on layups and his jump shot, and I was following along with him. After we were
done, I was so excited and I just knew I wanted to play basketball. My dad was shocked that I
wanted to play because it meant giving up dance and gymnastics, but I had a feeling it would be
worth it. I kept practicing with my brother whenever he went in the backyard to shoot and
dribble. My dad started to realize that I was serious about wanting to play basketball. I began
watching basketball with my dad and brother and studied the player s moves. My dad showed me

Gender Inequality And The Aristotelian Society
Gender Inequality in an Aristotelian Polity Aristotle s philosophies were deeply influenced by his
upbringing and interest in biology. He believed that the reason of a thing lies in its function.
Everything that exists has a purpose, and that purpose is the reason that thing is the way it is. For
example, all the substances that make up a seed are there because the way those particular
substances interact with each other causes that seed to grow. When the seed grows, it reaches its
full potential as a plant. Humans are the same. Humanbeings have a potential to live up to, which
is finding true happiness by living an honorable life. One lives an honorable life by complying
with societal standards, which are built through community based on three levels of
organization. The first of these is the household, which is designed to manage the necessities of
individual existence, such as procreation, sleep, nourishment, and shelter (pg. 35). The second is
the village, which in simple terms is the market place of society, where people buy and sell
goods and services. The last of the levels is the polis, the political community in charge of making
collective decisions in the public s best interest. Each of these levels performs an essential,
inescapable function in any society (pg. 35) Species survival is crucial to any society, and is
covered under the household level of government. But because species survival is so important,
those who are capable of bearing children will be

Introduction: Nike was founded under the name Blue Ribbon Sports in 1964. In 1972 the first
pair of sports shoes was sold and experienced enormous growth and achieved a 50% market share
within the sports shoe market in the US only eight years later. After sluggish focus and growth in
the 1980ies, Nike experienced strong growth in the 1990ies and cemented the position as global

McAfee of Harvard Business School has said: What Nike and i2 Technologies Inc. began
experiencing the problem actually is not the software itself... The culprit there was misspecification
Further on the subject of customization, Nike had great difficulties balancing customization with
speed to market. I believe the external factors of significant competition, changing market place and
resulting disappointing financial performance in growth markets lead Nike to rush the
implementation and interfered with normal OBB. The rushing meant that a guideline, templates
and implementation methodology was discarded by Nike with the argument that the i2 provided
material was too rigid. In general I would argue that Nike required technology that was not
sufficiently available at the time. This pushed i2 to enter unknown software territory and program
to order disabling sufficient time for vendor/developer testing. The criticality of this was further
boosted due to lack of testing from Nike, which clearly illustrates faults in phase 4 of the
implementation as well. (Appendix 3) Lastly, I find evidence that a global ERP and SCM software
potentially would be difficult to manage successfully at the time due to the structural issue of
underdeveloped bandwidth infrastructure , which could indicate Nike required a technical solution

African American Vernacular English Essay
For my project, I have many options that I am considering. Narrowing down will be difficult
because each has its own important information that I believe should be shared. One idea that I
came up with is to compare African American Vernacular English (AAVE) to American Standard
English. For example, the origins, grammar rules, words, articulation, and etc. Not only will I
compare them, but I will argue the legitimacy of AAVE with research. I m not advocating for
AAVE to overtake American Standard English, but I am supporting that AAVE should be looked
at as an official language like Spanish and French and be treated as such. No one should feel like
they are talking wrong nor should their language determine ones intelligences level, but in schools...

I also will counterargue many misconception, myths, and confusion when it comes to AAVE. My
second idea was comparing schools funding all over the St. Louis Greater Metro Area.
Comparing the schools funding will show the vast difference in funding. I will also provide
examples of more equitable system that bridge the gaps of funding. My third idea is tackling the
myth that urban parents don t want their children to succeed as much as parents from the
suburbia. This idea came to me in class when we were talking about charters schools and parents
having options, and one young lady was like yeah, the ones who actually want their kids to go to
school. That type of thinking is toxic and it is a microagression. This kind of blend in with my
fourth idea which is that going to better schools, especially if they are in the county, are not
always better. I said that because at better school one can feel like they don t belong and how
something about them is lacking. We can all agree that parents at all class levels who don t want
their children to succeed or go to school are a huge minority, yet with urban people problems like
this get overstated as if most have this problem which is simply not

Rite Of Passage
Rites of passage are key aspects of every culture. According to Window on Humanity written by
Conrad Phillip Kottak, a rite of passage is an individual or collective transition from one stage in
life to another that involves a change in social status. Although they differ between cultures,
every rites of passage includes three major phases: separation, liminality, and incorporation.
Separation is when the person withdraws from an old social status. For example, when a Maasai
boy is about to begin the process of becoming a man he must shave all of his hair. Liminality is
the stage when one is in between two social statuses. An example of liminality would be different
taboos or transformations of the Maasai boys, like not being allowed to flinch... Show more content

This is a ritual that every Jewish girl is expected to go through in order to be recognized as an
educated Jewish woman. Before a bat mitzvah, parents hold responsibility for the child s behaviors.
Prior to the three phases, the child is not obligated to know the commandments and the expectations
of a Jewish adult. Reaching the age of a bat mitzvah signifies becoming a full member of the Jewish
community with the responsibilities that come with it. This ceremony usually takes place at the age
of twelve. I remember having to go to Hebrew school as a child. I was sent there not only to
learn about the religion that I was born into, but also to eventually prepare for my bat mitzvah.
About one and a half years prior to my bat mitzvah celebration, I was separated from the rest of
the students and put into a special class. In this class I was educated on the meaning of the ten
commandments and was expected to be able to read in hebrew. I also was expected to learn how
to sing a portion of the Haftara out of the Torah which is the Jewish version of the Bible. During
this stage, my parents were expected to pick a date for the celebration and begin planning. In
this stage, I was still considered a little Jewish girl . Although a bat mitzvah celebration sounded
like fun, my experience with the separation stage was not even a little bit enjoyable. I was very
stressed, trying to understand the commandments, learning how to sing the haftara, preparing for
the celebration, writing and reciting a speech, and picking out a pretty dress to wear. After a
long preparation for the service it was time to share what I have learned with friends, family, and
the people of the synagogue. I was extremely nervous to perform but I remember feeling beautiful
in my gown. The liminality stage began when it was time to get up in front of the crowd at the
synagogue and sing the haftara and read my speech. This was done in order to

Parenting Styles In Grace Based Parenting
My family situation is very positive. My parents have been married for years. They were not able
to have kids till they were years old. In 1997 they had me and four years later in 2001 they had my
younger brother. Both of my parents parenting styles are different. They both, however have a
combination of parentingstyles described in Grace Based Parenting. Grace Based Parenting
addresses seven parenting methods. The seven methods are fear based, evangelical behavior
modification, image control, high control, herd mentality, duct tape, and life support or 911
parenting. I think at one time or another, either both or one of my parents have exercised the
methods fear based, high control, and grace based parenting. My parents have not always had a
fear based approach to parenting. I believe when my brother and I were young they took on this
method mainly to protect us. Because my motherhas experience in the medical field and more
specifically worked at Scottish Rite, she has seen some terrible things that have happened to
children. Thus, she did not allow us to go over and hang out with just anyone. Our door,
however, was always open to any neighborhood kids and I remember many times that we had
almost every child in the neighborhood in our living room. They did not discourage us from
hanging out with nonreligious children in the neighborhood. In fact, they encouraged us to set
a good example for those kids. They, also, encouraged us to invite them to church and most times
we had at least one child going with us to church. When it came to television and the Internet, I
did not have television till I was in 3rd grade and could use the Internet, but it was monitored.
My parents implemented high control parenting in that they had a lot of control on if I did or
did not do something. They did not push me out of my comfort zone in safe ways. They
controlled so much because they wanted me to be safe and never make any big mistakes that I
never really got involved in anything that was outside of a church activity or a sports team which
one of my parents were always there to supervise. I eventually felt that there was no need to try
new things because they were always there to judge or wanting me to

This meant that ownership of a CD was still necessary, meaning sales did not drop significantly
to begin with. However the invention of MP3 players, allowing people to move files from their
computer on to a portable device meant this was no longer a problem for down loaders. Some
sites have aimed to provide a legal outlet for customers to download music, the most recognisable
being Apple s iTunes system. This has been an extremely successful venture for Apple, but has
done little to prevent piracy. Apple has also played their part in the way we purchase music. The
International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) Digital Music report estimates that
forty billion tracks were downloaded in 2008. 95% of these tracks are estimated to have been
downloaded illegally (IFPI Digital Music Report 2009). While it is obvious that the music
industry has almost gone completely digital and people no longer place any real value in owning
physical CDs, music listeners also avoid paying for their downloaded copy of the songs they wish
to own.

Queen Elizabeth The First

that if I were turned out of the realm in my petticoat, I were able to live I any place in

monarchs. Elizabeth was a great ruler and dealt with many of England s issues. Elizabeth s main
concern throughout her reign was peace and stability of the realm, and religious persecution was
only adopted when certain religious groups threatened this peace (Sharnette). Elizabeth wanted her

She believed that there was only one God, Jesus Christ and made sure that she showed that
through her speeches and the way she ruled England. Many would most likely agree with
Elizabeth s beliefs and ideology because Elizabeth believed in Jesus and because of the way she
always would pray to God for guidance daily when she became Queen of England. Elizabeth also
didn t want to sentence anyone to death, probably because she had seen all the executions that
her father, King Henry VIII, was responsible for and couldn t bear to be anything like her father.
This can be shown through her taking twenty years before having her cousin, Mary Stuart, who
tried to take her throne, executed. She also liked to encourage her people and also was good
friends with a lot of them before she even became queen. She had become so popular, that they
would celebrate her coronation date every year. Elizabeth was also kind and generous enough to
allow the arts to flourish during her reign and because of this, writers, and playwrights would
honor her in their plays and artists would paint her picture to honor her. Queen Elizabeth not only
helped the arts to blossom, but also allowed for Protestantism to become more wide

Elastic Demand And Inelastic Demand
Elastic Demand, Unit Demand and Inelastic Demand:
Understanding the law of demand as it pertains to the elasticity of demand allows economists to
measure consumers responsiveness or sensitivity to changes in the price of a product. Measuring
the degree of this change or percentage of change will result in elastic, unit or inelastic demand.
Elastic demand (elasticity) means that demand for a product is sensitive to price changes. Demand
elasticity helps a company to predict changes in demand based on changes in: price, competitive
goods (substitutes) and other factors such as is the item a necessity or a luxury. The formula for
calculating price elasticity of demand is: Price Elasticity of Demand (eD) = (% changein Quantity
demanded )/(%Change in price) . If the formula creates a number greater than 1 the demand is
perfectly elastic. Unit Elastic Describes a supply or demand curve that is perfectly responsive to
changes in price. If the formula creates a number equal to 1 the demand is unit elastic. Meaning
that the change in quantity demanded is exactly equal to the change in price. If the price goes
up by 20% the quantity demanded goes down by 20%. The inverse of this would also be true if
the price goes down by 20% then the quantity demanded will go up by 20%. Therefore, if the
demand for the product is unit elastic, a change in price will not cause any change in total
revenues. There are few goods consider to be unit elastic, but products such as medicines

The Twelfth Night By William Shakespeare
Within Shakespeare s plays, there are many ways in which characters play with gender stereotypes.
Through changes to appearance and personality, characters disguise themselves to fit in with the
opposite gender. Cross dressing suggests that because the characters are female, they do not have
the appropriate power they need for the situations they find themselves in, and when they achieve
that power, they are still femaleand still manage to fulfill their goals. So, for a womanto have power
does not mean she needs to stop being female but to stop being perceived as a female so she can
be treated differently. In The Twelfth Night, Viola disguises herself as a man in order to find her
brother and in The Two Gentlemen of Verona Julia also dresses as a man to travel to Milan and
visit Proteus. Both of these women find themselves in challenging situations, who use unique
strategies in order to cope and subtly opposing genderroles.
Shakespeare (1564 (baptised) 1616) was an english playwright. His plays have been translated to
many different languages and they have been repeatedly adapted. Not only do his plays continue to
stay popular, they are constantly studied, performed and reinterpreted through different cultures
around the worlds. His plays hold many stereotypes of men and women in their roles in society, but
he also questions, challenges and changes those representations. He allows female characters to
struggle within and against social expectations so they, like

Goodfellas Essay
Goodfellas
(Goodfellas is the film adaptation of the non fiction book ?Wiseguy?, written by Nicholas Pileggi.
The film charts the rise and fall of Henry Hill?s thirty year career within the New York mafia. The
film was released in 1990 and was directed by Martin Scorsese. Goodfellas stars Ray Liotta as
Henry Hill, Lorraine Bracco as Karen Hill (Henry?s Wife), Robert Dc Niro as James Conway and
Joe Pesci as Tommy DeVito.
The film begins with one of the most horrific and sickening moments to appear in a film, the
murder of Billy Batts. At this point the viewer knows nothing of the background events that run up
to this scene. Additionally, the characters are not yet known, so there is no emotional baggage
being carried with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The purpose of the narration is to smooth over the various jumps in the story. Throughout the
film sub stories change quickly, narration is the device that covers the holes. Without narration
the viewer would become lost very quickly, and may not fully understand events. At the
beginning of the film, Henry is shown as a young boy looking out of his bedroom window
admiring the lifestyle of the local ?Wiseguys?. Here follows a very quick succession of events
that show how his character gets involved with these people and what he does to earn more
respect from them and eventually be accepted into their group. The narration explains why he
admires them so much, ?They did whatever they wanted?, why he wants to part of their group and
why he does what he does, ?It was about being somebody in a neighbourhood of nobodies?.
Within the film there are four main characters; Henry Hill, Karen Hill, Tommy DeVito, and James
Conway. Henry and Karen are the only characters that are followed throughout the film. On the
whole, character development is kept to a minimum. For instance, many characters are introduced
to the viewer during a walkthrough steadicam shot of a bar. Most of these characters will be seen
later on in the film, but will only in the background of various scenes. The viewer may recognise
these characters but they still know no more about them. Even with the main characters there are

Theme Of Women In The Yellow Wallpaper
The Woman behind the Wallpaper
There comes John, and I must put this away, he hates to have me write a word. (Gilman 469)
This quote is a prime example of the lack of freedom and control woman in the 1800 s have. The
narrator of our short story The Yellow Wallpaper is an excellent example of a Victorian Womanwho
expresses the theme of Female Oppression and inequality. Through use of literary elements such as
characterization, symbolism and imagery Gilman perfectly illustrates the social issues these women
struggle with.
Gilman uses literary elements such as characterization and imagery to help emphasize the
detrimental effects of female oppression. In the story the characterization helps to demonstrate the
struggles between Jane Doe and John. Her husband, John, often demeans the narrator making her
appear self centered. Perhaps that is one reason I do not get well faster. You see he does not
believe I am sick. (Gilman 468) This illustrates the toxic and unhealthy relationship between John
and his wife. John controls her by forcing her to believe all her issues are in her head, causing her
paranoia and delusion. Furthermore, this helps express how much power men hold over women
and how little control females have over their lives. Another example of how literary elements
demonstrate the overall theme of inequality of women occurs when Gilman describes their house
through immense imagery. One example of the amount of control John has comes through the dark
and eerie

Mexico Business Cycle
Mexico s Business Cycle
The term business cycle or economic cycle refers to the fluctuations of economic activity around
its long term growth trend. It involves shifts over time between periods of relatively rapid growth
of output recovery and prosperity, and periods of relative stagnation or decline contraction or
recession. These fluctuations are often measured using real gdp.
Despite being termed cycles, these fluctuations in economic growth and decline do not follow a
purely mechanical or predictable periodic pattern. In recent years economic theory has moved
towards the study of economic fluctuation rather than a business cycle . Some economists believe
calling the business cycle a cycle to be a misnomer, because of ... Show more content on

Since the nature of the financing flows to Mexico were short run, the vulnerability of the economy
increased due to these adverse shocks, resulting in capital outflows and a collapse of the exchange

supported adjustment program including support schemes for the banking industry, a floating
exchange rate, the tightening of monetary policy, fiscal consolidation and restrained income
policies. This resulted in an improvement of the economic situation and real gdp grew at about 5%

Qatar Airways And Its Impact On The Asian East Asia
Over the last few years, Australia has been booming with tourists mainly from the middle east Asia.
The cause of this major boom in Australian tourism was due to the growth of Gulf carriers carrying
11.5% of all international passengers to and from Australia. With an alarming increase of traffic to
Australia by the Gulf carriers, the Australian market share has increased, leaving Emirates Australia
s second most popular international airline (Flynn,2014). Each of the gulf carriers has had different
approaches of affecting the Australian market share and consequently had different effects to the
market. Emirates and Etihad formed partnership and alliances with the two main Australian airlines,

Before the alliance, Qantas had an alliance with British airways and in 2004 they held 3% of the
market share but in 2013 they were not to be seen as one of the top market sharers. Also, as
shown in figure 3, in 2006 Emirates had joined the Australian market first than the other two gulf
carriers and had an outstanding amount of 630,000 seats to Australia. While Emirates was
making a big impact in Australian market, Etihad joined in 2007 right after Emirates, however
they were not as successful as Emirates. Etihad gradually gained passengers and in 2009 when
Qatar airways joined, they had approximately 290,000 passengers. By the end of 2015 Etihad had
the same number of seats to Australia as Emirates had in 2005 and Qatar Airways was even smaller.
As shown from figure 3, Qatar Airways had Etihad s 2008/2009 seats to Australia in 2015.
(CAPA,2015). Although Qantas still remains with the most market share in Australia, Emirates is
showing its capabilities to dominate the Australian market.
Emirates is not the only gulf carrier that is showing some form of dominance or its potential to have

The French Resistance (La Résistance française) was a collaboration of individual movements
against the German occupation of France and the Vichy regime that complied with the Nazis

manage escape networks to allied territory for political enemies and others persecuted by the Nazis

Charles de Gualle, the father of the RГ©sistance, openly rejected the Vichy government and was

Legitimacy Of Anime
Legitimacy of Anime Although Japanese cartoons, known as anime, are not live action films, they
are a legitimate form of art, specifically film. Anime films contain themes relevant to societal
issues, which is depicted in compelling, riveting ways not obtainable through live action films,
which touches the audience. The film Graves of the Fireflies, directed by Isao Takahata in 1988, is
a prime example of an animefilm that provokes thought and compels emotion. Graves of the
Fireflies is an animated adaption of a semi autobiographical short story by the same name,
written by Akiyuki Nosaka in 1967. The movie is set in Kobe, Japan during the latter stages of
World War II and follows a brother and sister as the struggle to survive trying to scavenge. The
opening scene takes place a month after Japan surrendered to the United States in World War II.
The protagonist, Seita, a teenage son of a naval officer, is dying of malnourishment in a subway
concourse as people walk by him and look down on him for being homeless and raggedy. Early in
the film we can see the lack of sympathy from bystanders. The protagonist dies that night and in
spirit reunites with his sister, Setsuko, as the scene ends fireflies surround the siblings. The
following scene depicts American bombers headed to hit a target, the target happens to be Seita s

Relationship Between Father And Fate In The Odyssey
Father and Son Relationships Determine Fate and Destiny The Odyssey, by Homer, is one of the
most influential texts of Western literature and it is paralleled to The Aeneid, by Virgil. Father and
son relationships are very important to Greek culture, as evident in the relationship between
Odysseus and TelГ©makhos in The Odyssey. Hundreds of years after The Odyssey was transcribed,
Virgil continued to recognize the importance of the father and son relationship and he incorporated
it into The Aeneidby focusing on Anchises and Aeneas. Both epics revolve around and delve into
the valued father and son relationship. This relationship is so important to Greek and Roman
culture that it has an effect on the idea of fate and destiny. Throughout The Odyssey and The
Aeneid, the relationship between the father and son is responsible for determining their fate and
destiny.
The fate of Odysseus and Anchises is thoroughly influenced by their respective sons. Throughout
Odysseus s journey, Odysseus wants to give up because of all the hardships he has to face. His
son, TelГ©makhos, serves as his motivation for coming home and drives his will to live and fight
his hardships at sea. At one point, Odysseus considers giving up so he will not need to face the sea
raging/ under such winds anymore (Homer 5.314 315). In spite of his moment of weakness, he
continues to fight for his destiny of homecoming to reunite with his son. TelГ©makhos encourages
Odysseus to achieve his destiny. Likewise,

Racial Profiling And Law Enforcement

Racial Profiling in Law Enforcement The topic racial profiling is an ongoing debate that is
currently being argued in America. Before being able to help understand the faults of racial
profiling, one must know what it is. According to the National Institute of Justice, racial profiling
in law enforcement is commonly defined as a practice that targets people for suspicion of crime
based on their race, ethnicity, religion or national origin ( Racial Profiling ). Racial brutality tends
to be an outcome of most racial profiling cases. Racial profiling will usually be most casually seen
in traffic stops. Not only does racial profiling make police officers hypocrites for not protecting, and
causing distress to, the society they sworn to abide to, but it also makes them breach the
constitution of the United States of America. Racial profiling is an unethical, biased, and
unconstitutional practice in law enforcement.
As stated previously, one must have a good understanding of racial profiling and the topics being
further discussed. Beginning with the confusion of thinking racial profiling relates someone to
being a racist. Racially profiling someone does not make a person, in this case a police officer, a
racist. The actions the police officer takes towards profiling racially is what makes them a racist.
For example, one has to ask if the profile was based purely on racial prejudice which is having a
negative attitude toward

When students reflect upon their learning, they engage in a potentially transformative act of
responding to, connecting with, and analyzing an experience, event, process, or product. Reflection
is thus one way to bridge the separate thought and action: an opportunity for students to describe
their internal processes, evaluate their challenges, and recognize their triumphs in ways that would
otherwise remain unarticulated (Allan Driscoll 2014). Being a reflective learner would therefore
help me be more proactive in applying my existing knowledge to create new ideas and improve my
understanding of course material. Reflective learning would also have a positive impact on my
future career since I would be able to develop my learning and thinking abilities by building on
the critical evaluation of my past learning experiences and applying them to my work. I believe
this would make me self aware and give me the ability to identify and address my strengths and
weaknesses. I therefore agree with the argument by (Moon, 2002) that reflection improves the
depth and relevance of individual learning (Moon, 2000 cited by Trehan, 2008). If I had no
knowledge of effective learning skills, I would have been stressed out whenever I come across an

Sometimes, people will have different feelings when they are at different ages. People will change
their minds when they see, hear and know more. At first, in my opinion, I think as a Chinese, I
didn t need to go to other countries to study. But now I really think studying abroad is a great idea.
When I was in the high school, some of my classmates were talking about studying abroad in
college. I didn t know why they wanted to do it. For me, studying overseas seem pointless and
expensive. Every Chinese student has to spend more than 1.5 million Yuan, which are more than
200,000 dollars in four years if they study in the US. It s too expensive, and also dangerous.
According to the Chinese People s Daily, there were more than 7 major crimes aimed at Chinese
students in US in 2014, and caused 10 people died and 17 injured. Furthermore, more than 72.1%
Chinese students have more or less mental disease when they study abroad due to the high pressure
and homesick. So I think even though my family has enough money to pay for my tuition fees, it is
so unnecessary to spend the money just on college. I can get a degree in one of the Chinese
universities. It only cost 6000 dollars. And it is so much safer. After I graduate, I can use the
rest of the money to buy an apartment, a car, and even a good job. Then I can find a pretty girl to
fall in love and set a happy family. I am sure I can have a comfortable and easy life with this
amount of money.
However, if I spent

Rappaccini s Daughter And The Birthmark By Nathaniel...
The Interrogated Science Science is one of the most important factors that many science fictions
deal with. Some of them describe the positive and useful side of science such as the description of
sciences like mathematics, physics, chemistry and many other fields of study. While some of the
other science fictions describe the dangerous sides of sciencethat can hurt and even kill human
beings. Concerning this idea, Nathaniel Hawthorneis one of the American writers of the mid
nineteenth century who writes about art and science. This paper will describe the sort of science
that need to be interrogated and how is combined by comparing Rappaccini s daughter and The
Birthmark by the role of the scientists, Dr. Aylmer and Dr.

Aylmer tried to convince his wife with a plan that achieves her happiness by enjoying the perfect
beauty. His gambles started when he was isolated with his wife in an apartment provided with a
laboratory. It was a symbol of his discoveries of the elemental power of nature. This time,
Georgian was one of the elements Aylmer used to discover the physiological truth by his plan of
removing his wife s mark. As compared to Dr. Aylmer, Dr. Rappacini is also a skilled physician
who makes a different scientific experiment on both human beings and plants. He is a famous
doctor by which his name is heard as far as Naples. He makes a medication from strange plants
like collecting the strange flowers in his garden. Signor Pietro Baglioni, one of the main
characters of Rappaccini s Daughter story, describes Doctor Rappaccini when he says: Doctor
Rappaccini has as much science as any member of the faculty with perhaps one single exception
in Padua or all Italy. But there are certain grave objections to his professional character
(Hawthrone 4). It means that Doctor Rappaccini is as far as he is a good scientist, he has some
issues with his character. One of these issues, as Dr. Aylmer has, is his concentration on science
more than mankind (4). He deals with his patients as if they are only experiments. He is ready to
sacrifice any human life, himself or anyone dearest to him for adding anything possible to his
knowledge. Giovani, who is another important character,

Walls Placed on Relationships in Mending Wall by Robert Frost
Walls Placed on Relationships in Mending Wall by Robert Frost
In the poem Mending Wall, Robert Frost utilizes the literary devices of imagery, meter, and
symbolism to demonstrate the rational and irrational boundaries or metaphoric walls humans place
on their relationships with others. The precise images, such as the depiction of the mending time
ritual and the dynamic description of his old stone savage armed neighbor, serve to enhance our
enjoyment as well as our understanding of the poem (40). The poem is written in blank verse
(iambic pentameter); the form that most closely resembles everyday English. Frost deliberately
employs this direct, conversational, and easy to understand style of meter which appears ... Show

It is a ritual which contains its own paradox; the two neighbors are cooperating together to sustain
this barrier which divides them. As they mend, Frost begins to question the reasoning behind the
walls existence. His neighbor s only response is Good fences make good neighbors (27). The
neighbor s uninterested attitude and indifferent response forces Frost to inquire further. He attempts
to justify the wall by using a logical argument. There would be a need for walls if they had cows
or similar pasture animals, but he and his neighbor have no such animals. Frost not only wants his
neighbor to consider what he is walling in but also ponder what he is walling out and why. Deaf to
any arguments, the farmer will not go behind his father s saying and question his strong conviction
of good fences making good neighbors (43).
The stubborn neighbor s blind acceptance and in the dark way of living is paralleled by the
image Frost paints of him. In line 40, a simile is used describing him as like an old stone savage
armed as he works toward restoring the wall. This man who is so insistent on maintaining this
wall is a product of a long gone age of thinking. He is like a savage from the time when it was
essential to wall yourself off from other savages for safety and protection. Lines 41 and 42
continue: He moves in the darkness as it seems to me, not of woods only and the shade of trees.
He is not only in the dimness provided by the

Simulated Prison Experiment
A Study of Prisoners and Guards in a Simulated Prison Purpose Craig Haney, Curtis Banks and
Philip Zimbardo are the authors of A Study of Prisoners and Guards in a Simulated Prison and
published the article in September 1973. The purpose of the Zimbardo Stanford Prison Experiment
was to grasp a greater knowledge of, the basic psychological mechanisms of human aggression.
(Haney, Banks, Zimbardo, 1973, pg. 1) Creating a simulated prison environment did this. During
this experiment, a greater understanding of the development in roles, labels, and social expectations
was identified. The researchers thought this topic should be studied to help determine and isolate

prisoners, over an extended period of time. Although the experiment was cut short a week earlier
than planned, it shouldn t have began without a full outline of what to expect. The subjects who
were prisoners were given minimal explanation and details as per what to expect, with minimal
information being as inadequate as 3 small meals a day. The prisoners were only allotted
supervised bathroom visits, if they were earned, otherwise were not allowed to go. They were
called girlies and mocked by the prison guards, which in turn affected their need to have authority
and power after the experiment was terminated. Within real jails, inmates are allowed to have
unsupervised bathroom visits, all while maintaining security and safety and minimal invasion of
privacy. (BГјlow, 2014) The guards ethically and legally should not have been able to treat the
prisoners in such ways, as they took away their privacy and

How The Great Depression Affected Germany
Germany s economic troubles only increased during the period known as the Great Depression.
The Great Depression weakened economies worldwide and caused massive unemployment rates
(Castillo, German economy in the 1920s). The Depression put millions of people out of jobs which
led to thousands of being left on the streets to starve (Goldstein 7). According to John Maynard
Keynes, a European economist, the Great Depression was the greatest economic catastrophe... of
the modern world (Flagel 25). While the Great Depression affected multiple countries around the
world, no country was hit as hard as Germany(Callery 16; Dowsewll 20). The Great Depression
affected Germany the most for multiple reasons. The first reason why Germany was affected the
most by the Great Depression was because of the tariffs imposed on Germany (Castillo, German
economy in the 1920s). As seen in the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Germans were finding loopholes in the restrictions placed upon them by the Treaty of
Versailles. For example, the treaty restricted the development of weapons in Germany, so the
Germans built weapons in facilities in Russia (Axelord 35). In 1933 after assuming the role of
chancellor, Hitler proclaimed, Today Germany, Tomorrow, the world (Axelord 40; Immel 17).
At first Hitler began rebuilding the armies in secrecy, but in 1934 Germany s army expanded
massively (Axelrod 16; Goldstein 9; HistoryOnTheNet, World War II Causes ). Germans once
again began building new military vehicles, and Hitler began rebuilding the German navy and air
force (HistoryOnTheNet, World War II Causes ). Hitler planned to use Germany s military to take
back the land Germany lost to the Treaty of Versailles (Grant 14). Hitler was a reason that caused
Germany to start World War II (HistoryOnTheNet, World War II

Muscle Fatigue Essay
Contrary to what was long thought, muscle fatigue is not due to the accumulation of lactate in our
muscles. Indeed, it is the concentration of H + protons and not the lactate concentration which
intervenes in the acid base modifications responsible for fatigue. Moreover, we know that the most
important production of this latter, results from the hydrolysis of ATP and not glycogenolysis.
However, muscle fatigue depends on many factors and in our time, is still not very well understood.
Indeed, in vitro, the accumulation of H + protons leads to a significant decrease in the cellular pH
(7 в†’ 6) which inhibits the activity of the enzyme regulating glycolysis: phosphofructokinase or
PFK. But in vivo the add of inorganic phosphate (Pi), ADP, AMP... Show more content on

Moreover, always in vitro, this inhibition would entail the stopping of the glycolysis and
consequently the stopping of the synthesis of the ATP, thus a decrease in the contractile force,
synonymous with functional incapacity. Then, the protons would compete with the calcium ions,
preventing them from interacting with the troponin calcium sites. Under these conditions, the
removal of the inhibition exerted at rest by the troponin tropomyosin complex on the formation of
the actomyosin bridges could not be realized: the muscular contraction could not therefore take
place. However, in vivo, two to three minutes of rest are sufficient for the muscle to regain its
functional capacity after stopping by exhaustion following intense exercise causing a large drop in
pH.
Second, lactate is often mistakenly accused of causing muscle cramps. In fact, cramps are caused
by mineral deficiencies or hydromineral imbalances. Indeed, if it was because of the lactate
concentration, every time you do some sports you would be prone to cramps. It is

Gerber s Servant Leadership
Although Gerber (2007) provided several leadership themes throughout the book such as
Servant Leadership by Greenleaf (1977), The Leadership Challenge by Kouzes and Posner
(1995), and Motivation and Personality by Maslow (1954) she could have provided an even
stronger argument by referring to Goleman s (1995) book on Emotional Intelligence. Early on in
ER s marriage to FDR she was faced with the realization that her social secretary, a young
beautiful woman of twenty one was having an affair with her husband. FDR then in the role of
assistant secretary of the Navy (p.67) was neither discreet nor restrained about romancing his
mistress in public (Gerber, 2007). ER could have easily reacted to this situation with anger,
frustration, and contempt, instead she focused on her own growth (p. 71). Goleman termed this
type of inner healing as optimism or hope which has healing power (p.177).... Show more content

Instead of measuring ones IQ (conventional intelligence) Goleman s theory required
administrators to look at the leader s EQ (emotional intelligence) which measures behavioral and
character elements of intelligence. ER believed that by turning her sorrow into strength and
practicing EQ she could handle the low points or dark hours of her life. As Gerber (2007) wrote
Like Eleanor, you should work toward self mastery the ability to take control on your own terms
for the purpose of healing and helping yourself (p. 72). In Dubrin s 2010 book on leadership he
believed that when star performers were compared with average ones in senior leadership positions,
differences in emotional intelligence were more pronounced than differences in cognitive abilities

Critique Of Mcdevitt s Book Report
Question Two: A critique of McDevitt s Book
McDevitt s book is a well written and useful publication for learners, people with interest or
managers in the administration of their respective investigative unit. Fundamentally, there is plenty
of useful information in the book.
To begin with, the author highlights how efficacy can be increased amid the investigative officers
and how resources can be used to make investigations better. These are very important points
because they assist a lot of people in a number of ways. Chiefly, the management of resources is
perhaps the single biggest hurdle in management of investigations. Generally, investigations require
a lot of funds to proceed. On the same note, they involve travelling and a lot of field ... Show more

Certainly, this perspective is important in a situation where the number of investigative officers is
limited. However, this is not entirely true in most situations. In reality, the number of investigative
officers is usually sufficient to handle the crimes that are reported. Concerning the issues of time, it
would be prudent of the author to only suggest that the arrival time of the investigators should be
prompt to facilitate faster collection of evidence but not that the patrol officers should take it upon
themselves to begin the investigations. The author repeats this point in a number of sections.
Seemingly, the author has a certain bias towards extending favorable treatment towards the patrol

What Does All Quiet On The Western Front Symbolize
Symbolism On All Quiet On The Western Front Throughout the book, All Quiet On The Western
Front , by Erich Maria Remarque, numerous examples of symbolism and literary devices are
expressed. Remarque uses symbolism and literary devices to show that the horrors of World War
I turned its soldiers into animals, forced them to stand face to face against death, and led their
fates to be determined by chance. During a violent war scene, Paul Baumer, describes what war
has done to the men fighting in it. He explains that they have become wild beasts , only focused on
doing whatever they had to, to hang onto life a little longer (Remarque, 113). Remarque utilizes a
metaphor to make apparent that war has turned these men into animals, who worry only

Family Assessment
Introduction and identification of family
The family is the basic unit of society. When a family member becomes ill, the entire family is
affected. Family assessment is important because assessing the family s structure and style will
help formulate an effective teaching plan. It also helps to examine the strengths and barriers in the
family. Health promotion and health maintenance for children and their families are foundational
for all nursing care. Having specific knowledge about one s genetic makeup and associated
increased risk for disease provides a basis for health screening and may provide motivation for
people to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Early diagnosis allows early intervention with health

People with Huntington disease fatigue easily, so it is important for him to take several short
breaks throughout the day. Physical activity is also important. It can be as simple as walking
around the block. Incorporating exercise and movement in the daily routine is very important.
Conservation of structural integrity
Apathy and decreased motivation are two of the most disabling symptoms of Huntington s disease,
which could be wrongfully labelled as laziness. To prevent pressure ulcers, G.S should be included
in activities that rely mainly on gross motor skills such as sweeping, raking leaves, bringing the
clothes in off the line, and folding the clothes.
Conservation of personal integrity
People with HD, and particularly those living in residential care facilities, often lose their
identities when caregivers and support staff become too intensely focused on their medical care
and support needs. Immediate physical needs have to be balanced with opportunities for
individuals to be recognized as more than just a disease . Creating a personal print or video diary, a
scrap book or a photo album is one enjoyable way for people to record their interests and personal
histories. It can also be used as a tool to stimulate discussion and reinforce the person s identity as

  • 3. Birth Control History This essay will examine the demand for and prevalence of contraceptives in the United States. The history of birth control in the U.S. begins long before the infamous 1973 Roe vs. Wade Supreme Court decision affirming the legality of abortion. Birth control has not always been accessible, safe or reliable. Despite many myths, there are a multitude of reasons why a woman would choose to prevent or end a pregnancyincluding not being able to support a child. Before examining birth control, it s important to first dispel the myth that birth control and particularly abortion is only sought by modern, unmarried women who are more promiscuous than women in earlier ages. America was never abstinent. It s a myth that more teens and young adults have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Along with Katherine McCormick, the second female MIT graduate and a biologist, Sanger found funding to support the pill s development. The pill s clinical trials were in Puerto Rico because with its chronic overpopulation was far more accepting of birth control than the mainland U.S. The largely poor women were not informed that they were taking part in an experiment. A fifth of the women in the trial suffered side effects from nausea and headaches to high blood pressure and potentially deadly blood clots. While Sanger s crusade to help impoverished women improve their self efficiency through knowledge and access to safe birth control, the pill s trials shamefully did the exact opposite. Today reliable and birth control is accessible to most Americans and 8 of 10 women have taken oral contraceptives at some point in their lives. Birth control methods are still rapidly evolving. Even in 1960, nearly all birth control methods were conducted during intercourse such as condoms. • 6. Leotard Research Paper Leotards are a fundamental clothing item used many sports, mainly dance and gymnastics, which allow the athlete to perform at their peak ability without restrictions. A leotard allows for fluidity of movement and should also be light weight, stretchy, durable, and conform to the athlete s body (1). Upon their first appearances in the sporting community, leotards were manufactured from stretchy wool (1). However their increasing popularity later led to modifications in the choice of material; leotards being made from cotton and spandex (1). After a year of playing soccer, I transitioned to more feminine sports like dance and gymnastics. While I enjoyed dancing and gymnastics, I was heavily influenced by my brother and his passions. I always wanted to do what he did. I even played on his football team because tackling people seemed fun. I was six years old and in the fourth grade when I decided I wanted to play basketball. One day my brother was outside practicing with my dad, and my curiosity drew me outside to join them. He was working on layups and his jump shot, and I was following along with him. After we were done, I was so excited and I just knew I wanted to play basketball. My dad was shocked that I wanted to play because it meant giving up dance and gymnastics, but I had a feeling it would be worth it. I kept practicing with my brother whenever he went in the backyard to shoot and dribble. My dad started to realize that I was serious about wanting to play basketball. • 8. Gender Inequality And The Aristotelian Society Gender Inequality in an Aristotelian Polity Aristotle s philosophies were deeply influenced by his upbringing and interest in biology. He believed that the reason of a thing lies in its function. Everything that exists has a purpose, and that purpose is the reason that thing is the way it is. For example, all the substances that make up a seed are there because the way those particular substances interact with each other causes that seed to grow. When the seed grows, it reaches its full potential as a plant. Humans are the same. Humanbeings have a potential to live up to, which is finding true happiness by living an honorable life. One lives an honorable life by complying with societal standards, which are built through community based on three levels of organization. The first of these is the household, which is designed to manage the necessities of individual existence, such as procreation, sleep, nourishment, and shelter (pg. 35). The second is the village, which in simple terms is the market place of society, where people buy and sell goods and services. The last of the levels is the polis, the political community in charge of making collective decisions in the public s best interest. The rushing meant that a guideline, templates and implementation methodology was discarded by Nike with the argument that the i2 provided material was too rigid. In general I would argue that Nike required technology that was not sufficiently available at the time. This pushed i2 to enter unknown software territory and program to order disabling sufficient time for vendor/developer testing. The criticality of this was further boosted due to lack of testing from Nike, which clearly illustrates faults in phase 4 of the implementation as well. • 12. African American Vernacular English Essay For my project, I have many options that I am considering. Narrowing down will be difficult because each has its own important information that I believe should be shared. One idea that I came up with is to compare African American Vernacular English (AAVE) to American Standard English. For example, the origins, grammar rules, words, articulation, and etc. Not only will I compare them, but I will argue the legitimacy of AAVE with research. I m not advocating for AAVE to overtake American Standard English, but I am supporting that AAVE should be looked at as an official language like Spanish and French and be treated as such. My third idea is tackling the myth that urban parents don t want their children to succeed as much as parents from the suburbia. This idea came to me in class when we were talking about charters schools and parents having options, and one young lady was like yeah, the ones who actually want their kids to go to school. That type of thinking is toxic and it is a microagression. This kind of blend in with my fourth idea which is that going to better schools, especially if they are in the county, are not always better. I said that because at better school one can feel like they don t belong and how something about them is lacking. • 13. Rite Of Passage Rites of passage are key aspects of every culture. According to Window on Humanity written by Conrad Phillip Kottak, a rite of passage is an individual or collective transition from one stage in life to another that involves a change in social status. Although they differ between cultures, every rites of passage includes three major phases: separation, liminality, and incorporation. Separation is when the person withdraws from an old social status. For example, when a Maasai boy is about to begin the process of becoming a man he must shave all of his hair. Liminality is the stage when one is in between two social statuses. An example of liminality would be different taboos or transformations of the Maasai boys, like not being allowed to flinch... Before a bat mitzvah, parents hold responsibility for the child s behaviors. Prior to the three phases, the child is not obligated to know the commandments and the expectations of a Jewish adult. Reaching the age of a bat mitzvah signifies becoming a full member of the Jewish community with the responsibilities that come with it. This ceremony usually takes place at the age of twelve. I remember having to go to Hebrew school as a child. I was sent there not only to learn about the religion that I was born into, but also to eventually prepare for my bat mitzvah. About one and a half years prior to my bat mitzvah celebration, I was separated from the rest of the students and put into a special class. In this class I was educated on the meaning of the ten commandments and was expected to be able to read in hebrew. I also was expected to learn how to sing a portion of the Haftara out of the Torah which is the Jewish version of the Bible. During this stage, my parents were expected to pick a date for the celebration and begin planning. In this stage, I was still considered a little Jewish girl . Although a bat mitzvah celebration sounded like fun, my experience with the separation stage was not even a little bit enjoyable. I was very stressed, trying to understand the commandments, learning how to sing the haftara, preparing for the celebration, writing and reciting a speech, and picking out a pretty dress to wear. After a long preparation for the service it was time to share what I have learned with friends, family, and the people of the synagogue. I was extremely nervous to perform but I remember feeling beautiful in my gown. • 14. Parenting Styles In Grace Based Parenting My family situation is very positive. My parents have been married for years. They were not able to have kids till they were years old. In 1997 they had me and four years later in 2001 they had my younger brother. Both of my parents parenting styles are different. They both, however have a combination of parentingstyles described in Grace Based Parenting. Grace Based Parenting addresses seven parenting methods. The seven methods are fear based, evangelical behavior modification, image control, high control, herd mentality, duct tape, and life support or 911 parenting. I think at one time or another, either both or one of my parents have exercised the methods fear based, high control, and grace based parenting. My parents have not always had a fear based approach to parenting. I believe when my brother and I were young they took on this method mainly to protect us. Because my motherhas experience in the medical field and more specifically worked at Scottish Rite, she has seen some terrible things that have happened to children. Thus, she did not allow us to go over and hang out with just anyone. Our door, however, was always open to any neighborhood kids and I remember many times that we had almost every child in the neighborhood in our living room. They did not discourage us from hanging out with nonreligious children in the neighborhood. In fact, they encouraged us to set a good example for those kids. They, also, encouraged us to invite them to church and most times we had at least one child going with us to church. When it came to television and the Internet, I did not have television till I was in 3rd grade and could use the Internet, but it was monitored. My parents implemented high control parenting in that they had a lot of control on if I did or did not do something. They did not push me out of my comfort zone in safe ways. They controlled so much because they wanted me to be safe and never make any big mistakes that I never really got involved in anything that was outside of a church activity or a sports team which one of my parents were always there to supervise. This has been an extremely successful venture for Apple, but has done little to prevent piracy. Apple has also played their part in the way we purchase music. Elizabeth s main concern throughout her reign was peace and stability of the realm, and religious persecution was only adopted when certain religious groups threatened this peace (Sharnette). Many would most likely agree with Elizabeth s beliefs and ideology because Elizabeth believed in Jesus and because of the way she always would pray to God for guidance daily when she became Queen of England. Elizabeth also didn t want to sentence anyone to death, probably because she had seen all the executions that her father, King Henry VIII, was responsible for and couldn t bear to be anything like her father. This can be shown through her taking twenty years before having her cousin, Mary Stuart, who tried to take her throne, executed. She also liked to encourage her people and also was good friends with a lot of them before she even became queen. She had become so popular, that they would celebrate her coronation date every year. • 18. Elastic Demand And Inelastic Demand Elastic Demand, Unit Demand and Inelastic Demand: Understanding the law of demand as it pertains to the elasticity of demand allows economists to measure consumers responsiveness or sensitivity to changes in the price of a product. Measuring the degree of this change or percentage of change will result in elastic, unit or inelastic demand. Elastic demand (elasticity) means that demand for a product is sensitive to price changes. Demand elasticity helps a company to predict changes in demand based on changes in: price, competitive goods (substitutes) and other factors such as is the item a necessity or a luxury. The formula for calculating price elasticity of demand is: Price Elasticity of Demand (eD) = (% changein Quantity demanded )/(%Change in price) . If the formula creates a number greater than 1 the demand is perfectly elastic. Unit Elastic Describes a supply or demand curve that is perfectly responsive to changes in price. If the formula creates a number equal to 1 the demand is unit elastic. Meaning that the change in quantity demanded is exactly equal to the change in price. If the price goes up by 20% the quantity demanded goes down by 20%. The inverse of this would also be true if the price goes down by 20% then the quantity demanded will go up by 20%. Therefore, if the demand for the product is unit elastic, a change in price will not cause any change in total revenues. There are few goods consider to be unit elastic, but products such as medicines ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 19. The Twelfth Night By William Shakespeare Within Shakespeare s plays, there are many ways in which characters play with gender stereotypes. Through changes to appearance and personality, characters disguise themselves to fit in with the opposite gender. Cross dressing suggests that because the characters are female, they do not have the appropriate power they need for the situations they find themselves in, and when they achieve that power, they are still femaleand still manage to fulfill their goals. So, for a womanto have power does not mean she needs to stop being female but to stop being perceived as a female so she can be treated differently. In The Twelfth Night, Viola disguises herself as a man in order to find her brother and in The Two Gentlemen of Verona Julia also dresses as a man to travel to Milan and visit Proteus. Both of these women find themselves in challenging situations, who use unique strategies in order to cope and subtly opposing genderroles. Shakespeare (1564 (baptised) 1616) was an english playwright. His plays have been translated to many different languages and they have been repeatedly adapted. Not only do his plays continue to stay popular, they are constantly studied, performed and reinterpreted through different cultures around the worlds. • 22. Theme Of Women In The Yellow Wallpaper The Woman behind the Wallpaper There comes John, and I must put this away, he hates to have me write a word. (Gilman 469) This quote is a prime example of the lack of freedom and control woman in the 1800 s have. The narrator of our short story The Yellow Wallpaper is an excellent example of a Victorian Womanwho expresses the theme of Female Oppression and inequality. Through use of literary elements such as characterization, symbolism and imagery Gilman perfectly illustrates the social issues these women struggle with. Gilman uses literary elements such as characterization and imagery to help emphasize the detrimental effects of female oppression. In the story the characterization helps to demonstrate the struggles between Jane Doe and John. Her husband, John, often demeans the narrator making her appear self centered. Perhaps that is one reason I do not get well faster. You see he does not believe I am sick. (Gilman 468) This illustrates the toxic and unhealthy relationship between John and his wife. John controls her by forcing her to believe all her issues are in her head, causing her paranoia and delusion. Furthermore, this helps express how much power men hold over women and how little control females have over their lives. Another example of how literary elements demonstrate the overall theme of inequality of women occurs when Gilman describes their house through immense imagery. One example of the amount of control John has comes through the dark and eerie ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Relationship Between Father And Fate In The Odyssey Father and Son Relationships Determine Fate and Destiny The Odyssey, by Homer, is one of the most influential texts of Western literature and it is paralleled to The Aeneid, by Virgil. Father and son relationships are very important to Greek culture, as evident in the relationship between Odysseus and TelГ©makhos in The Odyssey. Hundreds of years after The Odyssey was transcribed, Virgil continued to recognize the importance of the father and son relationship and he incorporated it into The Aeneidby focusing on Anchises and Aeneas. Both epics revolve around and delve into the valued father and son relationship. This relationship is so important to Greek and Roman culture that it has an effect on the idea of fate and destiny. Throughout The Odyssey and The Aeneid, the relationship between the father and son is responsible for determining their fate and destiny. The fate of Odysseus and Anchises is thoroughly influenced by their respective sons. Throughout Odysseus s journey, Odysseus wants to give up because of all the hardships he has to face. His son, TelГ©makhos, serves as his motivation for coming home and drives his will to live and fight his hardships at sea. At one point, Odysseus considers giving up so he will not need to face the sea raging/ under such winds anymore (Homer 5.314 315). Before being able to help understand the faults of racial profiling, one must know what it is. According to the National Institute of Justice, racial profiling in law enforcement is commonly defined as a practice that targets people for suspicion of crime based on their race, ethnicity, religion or national origin ( Racial Profiling ). Racial brutality tends to be an outcome of most racial profiling cases. Racial profiling will usually be most casually seen in traffic stops. Not only does racial profiling make police officers hypocrites for not protecting, and causing distress to, the society they sworn to abide to, but it also makes them breach the constitution of the United States of America. Racial profiling is an unethical, biased, and unconstitutional practice in law enforcement. As stated previously, one must have a good understanding of racial profiling and the topics being further discussed. Beginning with the confusion of thinking racial profiling relates someone to being a racist. Racially profiling someone does not make a person, in this case a police officer, a racist. The actions the police officer takes towards profiling racially is what makes them a racist. People will change their minds when they see, hear and know more. At first, in my opinion, I think as a Chinese, I didn t need to go to other countries to study. But now I really think studying abroad is a great idea. When I was in the high school, some of my classmates were talking about studying abroad in college. I didn t know why they wanted to do it. For me, studying overseas seem pointless and expensive. Every Chinese student has to spend more than 1.5 million Yuan, which are more than 200,000 dollars in four years if they study in the US. Concerning this idea, Nathaniel Hawthorneis one of the American writers of the mid nineteenth century who writes about art and science. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Aylmer tried to convince his wife with a plan that achieves her happiness by enjoying the perfect beauty. His gambles started when he was isolated with his wife in an apartment provided with a laboratory. It was a symbol of his discoveries of the elemental power of nature. This time, Georgian was one of the elements Aylmer used to discover the physiological truth by his plan of removing his wife s mark. As compared to Dr. Aylmer, Dr. Rappacini is also a skilled physician who makes a different scientific experiment on both human beings and plants. He is a famous doctor by which his name is heard as far as Naples. He makes a medication from strange plants like collecting the strange flowers in his garden. Signor Pietro Baglioni, one of the main characters of Rappaccini s Daughter story, describes Doctor Rappaccini when he says: Doctor Rappaccini has as much science as any member of the faculty with perhaps one single exception in Padua or all Italy. But there are certain grave objections to his professional character (Hawthrone 4). It means that Doctor Rappaccini is as far as he is a good scientist, he has some issues with his character. One of these issues, as Dr. Aylmer has, is his concentration on science more than mankind (4). He deals with his patients as if they are only experiments. He is ready to sacrifice any human life, himself or anyone dearest to him for adding anything possible to his knowledge. Giovani, who is another important character, ... Walls Placed on Relationships in Mending Wall by Robert Frost Walls Placed on Relationships in Mending Wall by Robert Frost In the poem Mending Wall, Robert Frost utilizes the literary devices of imagery, meter, and symbolism to demonstrate the rational and irrational boundaries or metaphoric walls humans place on their relationships with others. The precise images, such as the depiction of the mending time ritual and the dynamic description of his old stone savage armed neighbor, serve to enhance our enjoyment as well as our understanding of the poem (40). The poem is written in blank verse (iambic pentameter); the form that most closely resembles everyday English. Frost deliberately employs this direct, conversational, and easy to understand style of meter which appears ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is a ritual which contains its own paradox; the two neighbors are cooperating together to sustain this barrier which divides them. As they mend, Frost begins to question the reasoning behind the walls existence. His neighbor s only response is Good fences make good neighbors (27). The neighbor s uninterested attitude and indifferent response forces Frost to inquire further. He attempts to justify the wall by using a logical argument. There would be a need for walls if they had cows or similar pasture animals, but he and his neighbor have no such animals. Frost not only wants his neighbor to consider what he is walling in but also ponder what he is walling out and why. Deaf to any arguments, the farmer will not go behind his father s saying and question his strong conviction of good fences making good neighbors (43). The stubborn neighbor s blind acceptance and in the dark way of living is paralleled by the image Frost paints of him. In line 40, a simile is used describing him as like an old stone savage armed as he works toward restoring the wall. This man who is so insistent on maintaining this wall is a product of a long gone age of thinking. He is like a savage from the time when it was essential to wall yourself off from other savages for safety and protection. Lines 41 and 42 continue: He moves in the darkness as it seems to me, not of woods only and the shade of trees. He is not only in the dimness provided by the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Simulated Prison Experiment A Study of Prisoners and Guards in a Simulated Prison Purpose Craig Haney, Curtis Banks and Philip Zimbardo are the authors of A Study of Prisoners and Guards in a Simulated Prison and published the article in September 1973. (Haney, Banks, Zimbardo, 1973, pg. 1) Creating a simulated prison environment did this. The Great Depression weakened economies worldwide and caused massive unemployment rates (Castillo, German economy in the 1920s). The Depression put millions of people out of jobs which led to thousands of being left on the streets to starve (Goldstein 7). According to John Maynard Keynes, a European economist, the Great Depression was the greatest economic catastrophe... of the modern world (Flagel 25). While the Great Depression affected multiple countries around the world, no country was hit as hard as Germany(Callery 16; Dowsewll 20). • 44. Muscle Fatigue Essay Contrary to what was long thought, muscle fatigue is not due to the accumulation of lactate in our muscles. Indeed, it is the concentration of H + protons and not the lactate concentration which intervenes in the acid base modifications responsible for fatigue. Moreover, we know that the most important production of this latter, results from the hydrolysis of ATP and not glycogenolysis. However, muscle fatigue depends on many factors and in our time, is still not very well understood. Indeed, in vitro, the accumulation of H + protons leads to a significant decrease in the cellular pH (7 в†’ 6) which inhibits the activity of the enzyme regulating glycolysis: phosphofructokinase or PFK. But in vivo the add of inorganic phosphate (Pi), ADP, AMP... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Moreover, always in vitro, this inhibition would entail the stopping of the glycolysis and consequently the stopping of the synthesis of the ATP, thus a decrease in the contractile force, synonymous with functional incapacity. Then, the protons would compete with the calcium ions, preventing them from interacting with the troponin calcium sites. Under these conditions, the removal of the inhibition exerted at rest by the troponin tropomyosin complex on the formation of the actomyosin bridges could not be realized: the muscular contraction could not therefore take place. However, in vivo, two to three minutes of rest are sufficient for the muscle to regain its functional capacity after stopping by exhaustion following intense exercise causing a large drop in pH. Second, lactate is often mistakenly accused of causing muscle cramps. In fact, cramps are caused by mineral deficiencies or hydromineral imbalances. Indeed, if it was because of the lactate concentration, every time you do some sports you would be prone to cramps. It is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Gerber s Servant Leadership Although Gerber (2007) provided several leadership themes throughout the book such as Servant Leadership by Greenleaf (1977), The Leadership Challenge by Kouzes and Posner (1995), and Motivation and Personality by Maslow (1954) she could have provided an even stronger argument by referring to Goleman s (1995) book on Emotional Intelligence. Early on in ER s marriage to FDR she was faced with the realization that her social secretary, a young beautiful woman of twenty one was having an affair with her husband. FDR then in the role of assistant secretary of the Navy (p.67) was neither discreet nor restrained about romancing his mistress in public (Gerber, 2007). ER could have easily reacted to this situation with anger, frustration, and contempt, instead she focused on her own growth (p. 71). As Gerber (2007) wrote Like Eleanor, you should work toward self mastery the ability to take control on your own terms for the purpose of healing and helping yourself (p. 72). Critique Of Mcdevitt s Book Report Question Two: A critique of McDevitt s Book McDevitt s book is a well written and useful publication for learners, people with interest or managers in the administration of their respective investigative unit. Fundamentally, there is plenty of useful information in the book. To begin with, the author highlights how efficacy can be increased amid the investigative officers and how resources can be used to make investigations better. These are very important points because they assist a lot of people in a number of ways. Chiefly, the management of resources is perhaps the single biggest hurdle in management of investigations. Generally, investigations require a lot of funds to proceed. On the same note, they involve travelling and a lot of field ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Certainly, this perspective is important in a situation where the number of investigative officers is limited. However, this is not entirely true in most situations. In reality, the number of investigative officers is usually sufficient to handle the crimes that are reported. Concerning the issues of time, it would be prudent of the author to only suggest that the arrival time of the investigators should be prompt to facilitate faster collection of evidence but not that the patrol officers should take it upon themselves to begin the investigations. The author repeats this point in a number of sections. Seemingly, the author has a certain bias towards extending favorable treatment towards the patrol ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What Does All Quiet On The Western Front Symbolize Symbolism On All Quiet On The Western Front Throughout the book, All Quiet On The Western Front , by Erich Maria Remarque, numerous examples of symbolism and literary devices are expressed. Remarque uses symbolism and literary devices to show that the horrors of World War I turned its soldiers into animals, forced them to stand face to face against death, and led their fates to be determined by chance. During a violent war scene, Paul Baumer, describes what war has done to the men fighting in it.
