Other People s Footage Documentary Analysis
The basic argument of the documentary, Other People s Footage, is to explain the process of using
copyrighted footage for a new purpose, whether that be in films, music, etc. The documentary states
that fair use comes out of the first amendment, which means it is completely legal to use. It also
argues that fair useis easy to implement, as long as you follow three simple questions that deal with
content and time limits. The new work must be transformative as well. This means something new
needs to be created for the work to be considered transformative. Although fair use can potentially
be a scary thing if used incorrectly, a rock solid Yes to all three questions mentioned in the
documentary will put you in the 100% comfort zone. There... Show more content on

At around the 23 24 minute mark the documentary explains the first Auburn Alabama game that
Jackson plays in. If the documentary had solely used interviews, stats, and testimonials to get
the point across this scene would have been extremely boring. However, it uses actual footage
from the game, including audio from the broadcast, in the form of short videoclips. This
includes a touchdown run from Jackson, and the opening kickoff among others. Every clip from
this scene passes the three questions that must be answered. The point to be made in the
documentary is that Bo Jackson was a phenomenal football player, which is reaffirmed in the
touchdown run. If the documentary used entire possessions or quarters, then this would have
been inappropriate for the demonstration. However, this is not done and each clip is short
enough to be considered reasonably appropriate. The connection to be made is clear to the viewer
because the clips show what is being said. There is also a lot of buildup to this game, so it is clear
the clips relate to what is being

Jack Mandala Quotes
Character Mandala Jack s Introduction: Jack craves power from the beginning of the novel
when he is not elected as chief and finally gets it when he gains control of the savages. Jack
becomes the leader of the savages and slips further and further away from civilization by the day,
as he kills pigs for pleasure and even kills some of the boys. Jack has a very aggressive
personality and is ugly and gangly. *I put brown and green together because they represent the
same thing Brown and green The brown and green represent Jack s mask. Golding uses the mask to
represent savagery and human nature, showing how Jack was consumed by his barbaric instincts.
Similarly, I placed the brown and green on the outside to illustrate how the mask consumes him.
Furthermore, Jack uses the mask to ВЁhid(e behind), liberated from shame and self
consciousness...ВЁ(Golding 64). Finally, these colors relate to the one of the themes of the book,

For example, Jack yells ВЁshut up, Fatty...ВЁ when Piggy makes a simply remark(Golding 21).
This quote shows off Jack s aggressive nature, as he creates an altercation when there was no
problem. Furthermore, this quote foreshadows about Jack s personality later in the book, as he is
always looking for a reason to get angry at either Piggy or Ralph. Lastly, this color choice
correlates to the theme, humans generally try to create conflicts even when one is not necessary, as
Jack tries to create altercations due to his fiery

High Stakes Testing
Testing the Joy Out of Learning sheds light on the negative effects of excessive test preparations
and test taking in the wake of No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) of 2001. The Act is a U.S. federal
program that seeks to improve student performance at primary and secondary schools. However,
under this program student face an unprecedented number of tests in math and reading. According
to this report, Students also take regular benchmark tests supposedly to predict performance on the
mandated tests and district assessments throughout the school year. The time spent talking about,
preparing for, and taking tests has increased exponentially (Nichols, Berliner, 2008, p. 14). Although

eliminate the word test from any banner, poster, or encouraging slogan (Nicholos Berliner, 2007,
p. 18). As an observer, I am hard pressed to find a sustainable student benefit aside from the
removal of a negative stimulus. A true and effective conclusion is to fight back against the federal

The job of a paramedic is very gruesome but rewarding career. 7000,000 EMTs in the U.S. treat

The Rise Of The Adult Entertainment Industry
The rise of the adult entertainment industry has exploded in both popularity and accessibility
within the last thirty years as a result of the emergence of pay per view adult movies, pornographic
websites, and 1 900 phone lines. The number of topless bars, exotic car washes, X rated theaters,
and massage parlors in business has boomed greatly. Within this time, United States Supreme Court
decisions recognized that First Amendment protection might very well extend to some types of non
obscene pornography and nude dancing as a form of nonverbal expressive speech (1). Though
consequently, the possibility for such First Amendment right protection paved the way for increases
in adult businesses. Although it may seem unlikely, the fate of First Amendment freedoms is
irrevocably linked to the ongoing conflict between the agents administering the adult entertainment
and those who defend public decency. The expansion of adult business have generated intense
concern among communities, with many individuals believing that the proliferation of adult
material including X rated movie viewing facilities, topless bars, and adult bookstores, ultimately
threatens property values, and are morally hazardous to their community (2). As a strong trend to
regulate such businesses, governments around the country, and specifically in North Carolina, have
begun to significantly restrict the locations of such adult oriented establishments. Such regulations
put into effect restrict such businesses to

Constitutional Law And The Legal System
With the media giving cost play to the term Constitutional , in reference to ongoing discussions
between the Executive Branch and the Legislative Branch, some confusion concerning the power of
Constitutional Law and its foundation for our legal system is understandable. Constitutional law is
not confined to the founding document as the sole source of our legal system. It includes the past
rulings of the Supreme Court, as well as guidance given in the various writings of the original
founding fathers and the precedence of Common Law. Thus Constitutional Law encompasses the
entire sphere of American Jurisprudence and its continued evolution will have a resounding effect
on both the rights and liberties of the individual for generations to come. Division and Enumeration
of Powers The first three articles of the U.S. Constitution describe the division of power among the
three branches of the Federal Government. Article I, Sections 1 10 enumerate the powers and duties
of the Legislative branch. Article II, Sections 1 4 concern the powers and duties of the Executive
Branch and Article III, Sections 1 3 enumerates the duties and powers of the Legislative Branch.
Significantly, the enumerated powers are not an exhaustive list. Not all powers are delimited in
relation to the other branches nor to that of the States. Thus, the powers of each branch has been
further determined by Supreme Court rulings, under the guise of specific powers outlined in these
three Articles. Therefore,

Pros And Cons Of Dependence On Technology Essay
Technology surround us. Like water in the cream, people are swimming in technology each and
every day. From the radio playing a favourite song to a text received about the results of a game,
people use technology constantly. However, there is a point at which people are overtaken by
technology; when he wave engulfs us and there is no way out. People are becoming more and
dependent on technology. Ever since technology began heavily integrating itself into society, many
major uses have developed, but at a cost that brings on dangerous side effects, both mental and
physical, as shown by the potential Y2k bug, that will continue unless active measures are sought
out by those so dependent on technology. Outside of the classroom and the office, technology is
still omnipresent. The internet, like most advancements and perhaps the best known example of
modern technology, began at a military level ( Information Technology 2) and wound up eventually
landing in the laps of businesses and the common person. With this, the normal way of conducting
business changed dramatically. Instead of physically exchanging... Show more content on

How the Hippies Counterculture Transformed Music Essay
In the 1950 s and 1960 s, rebellion and music were synonymous. The 1950 s brought widespread
attention to a new kind of music coined as Rock n Roll . Because parents deemed the music as
sinful, the youth used it to establish an identity for themselvess. In the 1960 s, the rebellion was
given a collective charge when young adults voiced displeasure over the country s entrance into the
Vietnam War and the use of nuclear weapons. One group within this movement was coined the
hippies . This paper will discuss the beliefs of the hippies of Haight Ashburyin San Francisco,
California and illustrate how the hippiecounterculture transformed into an evolution of music, in

Haight Ashbury had a history of being an entertainment center, capitalizing on San Francisco s
economic success in the Gold Rush.
In his book titled The Making of a Counterculture: Reflections on the Technocratic Society and Its
Youthful Opposition, historian Theodore Roszak described a counterculture as typically involving
disapproval or an attempted dismissal of those institutions which presently hold some level of
dominance, while simultaneously having hope for an improved life in a new society, in terms of
thinking and being. There has been some level of debate, discussing whether or not the hippie
movement of the 1960 s and 1970 s matched this definition. Was the movement solely a product of
the hippie s clustered university lifestyle, where common experimentation with drugs as well as
political activism served as their own sources of rebellion? This notion was argued by
anthropologist William L. Partridge, in his case study titled The Hippie Ghetto: The Natural
History of a Subculture.
Roszak argues in his book about a hippie rejection of technocracy: the system of organizations and
elite experts that influences society to attach itself to the importance of efficiency, rationalizing,
planning, and necessity, which hippies felt was clearly depicted by the nuclear arms race and fight
against communism between the United States and U.S.S.R.

Metaphors In American Childhood
We could have ran through every backyard in North America until we got to Panama (Dillard 48).
This is just one of Dillard s many metaphors throughout the novel that portrays a deep awareness of
space and time. Through metaphors Dillard captures a true depth in the novel that regular sentences
can not obtain. Normal sentences might pull a reader in, however metaphors can truly captivate the
reader to imagine all new possibilities. Dillard shows through metaphors of sight, time, and
understandingthat as you grow older your awareness of time and spacedeepens in understanding.
Sight is one of the few senses that a young child is able to use freely. A young child can have an
outlook that looks completely different than what an adult has. In An American Childhood,
Dillard explores her Pittsburgh and sees many things including, which she describes as, a black
phalanx (34). This metaphor is explicit because a phalanx is meant for a mass of people, not a
few nuns that are walking down the street. Phalanx describes these nuns well because it is a word
Dillard attributes to something she sees as unknown and mystifying. The mystifying nuns represent
one of the first real things that Dillard sees in Pittsburgh that frightens her. Dillard uses this
metaphor as a sign of fear when amongst the nuns, but the reader can see through her word choice
that the awareness she has of the world is pretty open. Dillard is able to see nuns in her travels and
think deeply about her thoughts.

What Are Some Fishermen For Fishing During Adverse Weather...
Part A
Question 1:
The article suggests some fishermen choose piracy as an alternative to fishing during adverse
weather conditions. The table below lists some of the marginal costs and benefits to fisherman
during the adverse weather conditions. As shown above, not all cost can be measured in monetary
value. Implicit costs such as opportunity costs are also considered as these are important in order to
determine the economic profit.
Piracy has far more monetary benefits than fishing during the adverse weather as suggested in the
table. Furthermore, the marginal costs of piracy are mostly based to threats/expectations, while the
marginal costs of fishing are mostly based on facts. Hence it can be said that piracy has more
marginal benefits than fishing during the adverse weather, which causes an increase in piracy.

The Fourth Amendment To The Criminal Justice System
There has always been the thought that police can abuse their power especially when it comes to
collection of evidence that could incriminate someone for something that was illegally obtained.
The exclusionary rule was put in place to counteract evidence that may have ben illegally obtained
to be inadmissible in a court of law with few exceptions to the rule.
Under the Fourth Amendment, the police cannot just force their way into someone s home without
probable cause. Even with probable cause, the police need to have the consent of the owner or a
warrant that says they can search the premises, and that anything they find can be used against you
in a court of law (Miller, 2016). The Fourth Amendment is one of the most important amendments
to the criminal justice system. The Fourth protects citizens from the police obtaining things that
could lead citizens to be convicted for something that the police did not have permission to obtain in
the first place. The exclusionary rule was put in place by Mapp v. Ohio and Weeks v. United States.
In Weeks V. United States, Weeks was convicted of transporting lottery tickets through the mail
when police illegally search his home without a search warrant. The police went to his house
where they search Weeks s room and took possession of various papers and articles found there,
which were afterwards turned over to the United States marshal They then returned to weeks home
to search for more stuff that could be used against Weeks. The

Essay On Farewell To Manzanar
What is the United States of America? The United States of America is a place where
immigrants and natives join; it is a place of freedom and unity. In the 1940 s, however, this unity
disappeared. After the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941 by Japan, all Japanese Americans were sent
to internment camps in hopes of catching a traitor. A young girl, along with eight siblings and her
mother, was taken to camp Manzanar. Her father had already been taken away from the family.
This is the start of an autobiography, Farewell to Manzanar by Jeannie Wakatsuki and James D.

for. To this day, there are still many debates about the idea of internment camps.... Show more

Even before they were sent to Manzanar, suspicious Japanese Americans, like Papa, were
removed from their homes. As soon as Papa was taken away, he and his family began living in a
broken home. This was only the beginning of the broken home, however. When the rest of
Jeannie s family was shipped to Manzanar, they began separating apart, too. It started when they
stopped eating meals as a family and instead ate at different times and places. It is important for
a family to eat together so they feel secured and included within their own household. Jeannie s
family truly snapped when Papa returned to Manzanar. He was different he had started to sip
(wine and brandy) till he was blind drunk and passed out (50). His drinking caused abuse to his
family. He began to hit Mama and verbally abuse his children. A family should never have to
physically harm each other to exemplify discipline. A true family needs to feel secure among one
another, with no distractions that may impair the family. In this case, Papa was the distraction. His
time away from home and from his family had made him make negative decisions. It was very
unjust that innocent families were thrown apart because of the Japanese

Family Planning And Poverty
The mainstreaming of the family planning agenda in many countries over the decades has been
accompanied by increased researcher interest in the subject, with a lot of research attention being
focused on the link between family planning and poverty. Empirical research studies using standard
economic models have demonstrated that increased access to familyplanning services is associated
with lower rates of poverty. This effect has been posited as occurring through a number of channels.
The first channel is the family size channel. As per this channel, increased access to family planning
reduces the number of children per family, which results into parents devoting more time and
resources per child, and occasioning higher per child investment that should lead to material
decline in household poverty (Bailey, Malkova and McLaren, 2013). The second channel is the
household income channel. Here, increased access to family planning services helps to free up
more resources, which can then be invested in the improvement of the human capital of the
parents. For instance, delaying parenthood can enable the soon to be parents to pursue further
education, gain more work experience, or enroll for further job training, and thus raise their
lifetime earnings levels (Bailey, Malkova and Norling, 2014). For instance, Bailey, Hershbein, and
Miller (2012) demonstrated that women who had access to the pill were able to delay motherhood
and to invest in their careers, resulting in higher wage

Suffering has changed the priest s physical appearance as well as his character. It has made him
look like a small man carrying a shabby dark suit (The power and the Glory 51) with dirty hands
unlike the soft hands of the priests in old days before the persecution. It has also made him
outraged at his old hypocrisy when he actually touches the pain of the poor that for a matter of

the Power and the Glory among the police and pisteleros [he] had actually encountered [he] had
to invent him as a counter to the failed priest (Ways of Escape 85). His physical appearance
reflects his strength, sharp discipline, and principles: His gaiters were polished, and his pistol

20th Century American Politics
Over the course of the 20th century, the people located in what is now modern day Slovakia
experienced immense political transformation. Before the end of World War I, the Slovakian people
were part of the Austro Hungarian Empire. When the empire dissolved, two republics were formed
creating Czechoslovakia until it too was dismantled by political demonstrations in the 1970s and
1980s. However, this volatile nature settled down when Slovakia became its own independent state
in 1993. Though the state is relatively young, it is still an imperative component of the European
Union today and this democracy is seen as functioning tremendously well nowadays. Slovakia s
main political policy tends to focus around cultural issues, which has negatively impacted the nation

Politics is usually characterized by contests for and shifts of power signifying the desire of the
people to place their sovereignty in the hands of responsible leaders. Such leaders devise political

together define the longitudinal political climate of a state. Moreover, the differences constitute the

Traditional Herbal Medicines Used For The Treatment Of...
Radix Paeoniae Alba (RPA), a well known Chinese herbal, ( Bai Shao in Chinese) has been
widely used in Chinese Medicine for thousands of years. It is made from the root of P. lactiflora
after boiling in water and peeling off the bark (China Pharmacopoeia Committee, 2010). Its
constituents have been recognized as valuable traditional herbal medicines used for the treatment of
diseases with a long history in TCM (Fang et al., 2009). Empirical evidence suggests that various
peony root preparations have broad therapeutic benefits for pain, muscle spasm, inflammation,
menstrual dysfunction, and neurodegenerative disorders, stroke (Wu 1985; Wu et al. 2010; Guo et
al.2012). These therapeutic benefits are believed to be mainly derived from its major constituents
that possess multiple pharmacological properties, in particular neuroprotective effects. To date,
more than 15 constituents have been identified from this Chinese herbal material, including the
isomers paeoniflorin (PF) and albiflorin (AF), are the main representative monoterpene glycosides

Mearsheimer and Walt present a number of contrasting arguments that argue that Saddam s

John Updike A P Analysis
In the story A P by John Updike, the narrator Sammy is a local grocery clerk in a small town. He
is a young man thrown into conflict with his older manager, Lengel over young female customers.
Sammy was intrigued teenage girls, and he struggled for distinguishing fantasy of romance and the
reality of the responsibilityhis manager has placed on him as an employee. This story focuses on the
conflict between the older generationand the new age by comparing the characters. The author
described Sammy as a working class person; however, he was only 19 years old and adolescence
like a teenage girl, Queenie. So, Sammy and girls in the bikini represented the younger generation,

First, he shows himself preparing his climax moment through the intellectual and creative
personality. If a static or dynamic character is in the story, Sammy is considered a dynamic
person. In A P, he says three girls in bikini to imply a new conflict as a crisis and chance of his
growing, She had talked the other two into coming in there with here, and now she was showing
them how doing it, walk slow and hold yourself straight (1290). He has been fascinated by them,
and he gives a creative name in the way they walk and moves in stores. This creativity is a
mediator that leads to new thinking and growth when the crisis comes. Second, when the conflict
reached a climax, he chose his own way with his heroism. After Lengel gave Sammy the
opportunity to withdraw the impulsive declaration, the door heaves it open, and outside the
sunshine is skating around on the asphalt (1294). This mention emphasizes the Sammy s personal
fulfillment and sincerity. He knows he regrets his decision to quit A P, but he will not avoid his
responsibilities. This quote provides a clue to a mature attitude by describing how one obtains
responsibility through individual decisions and

Children s Literature Becoming an Equalizer
While we are undeniably a multicultural society, we are not yet a truly pluralistic society where
persons of every ethnic background and race share equal access to opportunities for empowering
their lives and have the right to pursue their own good. (Bundy, 1992) The upperclass were wise to
the importance of reading; which, is the basis for leaving England settling in America. Children s
literature started with teaching to read for the expressed purpose of understanding the word of a
higher power and living accordingly. The importance of literacy becomes more apparent as society
falls in to war. Furthermore, many authors, philosophers and many other important figures in

The moldable mind once filled with practical applications will understand the lessons taught by
the novel. Daniel Defoe, author of the novel, wrote about singular man on an island fighting to
survive until rescue; similar to the aging of children. With this in mind, children s British and
American literature explored the two sides of the adventure stories. Boys Stories, Adventure
Stories, were influenced by Defoe s story depicting a castaway s survival. They were created for
boys because they showcased heroism in the face of an issue. The protagonists characteristically
display more than ordinary abilities in single mindedly pursuing a moral cause, and in the best
stories they are changed and enriched by their adventures. ( Adventure Stories, 2001)Usually in

The Benefits Of Transgender In The Armed Forces
Transgender in the Armed Forces
Many go to risk their lives to serve our country and unfortunately many don t come home in the
end. Entering our armed forces brings great opportunities, but a lot of stress as well. Being given
the freedom and the chance to serve is phenomenal. Every race, gender, or sexual orientation
should have a right to join, or so we thought. Why shouldn t certain minority groups not be allowed
to serve?
Upon joining the armed forces many benefits step forward, but do some of these benefits go too
far? Many army recruiters come to schools and always mention the benefits. Transgender veterans
or personnel need medications and maybe some surgery which cost quite a sum of money that gets
passed to the government to pay (West). The government should not be paying for transition
surgery or medications, due to it being the taxpayers money(West). People that are transgender
should be able to pay for their own hormones and surgeries because other transgender people not in
the military do so(West). In many ways too they could be disqualified for the medications and the
surgery before entering the armed forces (Allen). Why should they be given special treatment for
being transgender, when someone else is just as qualified and willing is dismissed for depression
or some other medical need. Even with these exceptions the medications or surgery might even
work in the end. Transgenders have been known to be mentally unstable before joining the military
because of

Psychological Effects Of Rosa In The Shawl
Rosa, who symbolizes all mothers in the story, was suffering depression because she had good
intentions for her kids but she became hopeless in this situation. Rosa was psychologically hurt
during the war; also the prisoners in Zimbardo s experiment were damaged psychologically due
to the guard s treatment to them. When Rosa s daughter dies, Rose then became psychologically
ill: So she took Magda s shawl and filled her own mouth with it, stuffed it in and stuffed it in,
until she was swallowing up the wolf s screech. (Ozick 4). In a sense, the mother becomes the baby

Ozick explains in The Shawl, how war can damage a person physically, which also affects them
mentally. Rosa starts to lose hope regarding her infant s health in addition to her own. Ozick
explained, The weight of Rosa was becoming less and less; Rosa and Stella were slowly turning
into air (Ozick 2). Rosa and Stella were becoming air because it s been days since they have
eaten anything. This can also be understood that they are dying and soon will vanish. Also, they
suffer from the brutal environment condition around them. Stella, cold, cold, the coldness of
hell (1). Ozick explains how brutal the weather felt to them. This explanation of the weather
helps one to see what those people went through during the war; these conditions are hard for an
infant like Magda to bear. It s known that infants need warm temperatures and special care to
live, but here Magda did not have the basic needs for a child to survive. To relate, in Zimbardo s
experiment the prisoners were subjected to physical pain as well. Zimbardo quotes an
anonymous prison who speaks about physical violence: the silent system was imposed upon me,
and to even whisper to the man in the next cell resulted in being beaten by guards, sprayed with
chemical mace, blackjacked, stomped, and thrown into a strip cell naked to sleep on a concrete
floor without bedding, converting, wash basin, or even a toilet (110). The prisoners faced torture
under the control of the guards. Those prisoners can be compared to Magda. They are suffering
pain but they do not have the ability to get rid of it because they are being controlled. The
prisoners were treated as if they are not humans. The guards beat them and treated them like
animals. Furthermore, war can affect a person physically, mentally and in fact, it even affects one s

Intended Conversion to Christianity in Flannery O Conner s...
I think that Flannery O Connor s short story A Good Man is Hard to Find is written partially in
order to convert people who have not yet fully accepted the Christian faith. O Conner, having a
strong upbringing and solid Christian background, wrote this story believing it would help people
who do not have a strong moral base and Christian convictions to seriously making the necessary
changes. Flannery O Connorshowed deep concern towards the value system of the youth at the
time. She firmly believed in helping to guide the youth in a positive direction. Her belief that
Christ was no longer a major priority to the people of her generation was a driving motivation. A

Her characters never seem to find their redemption until they find God at the end. People of
Christian faith have often criticized O Connor s works for being immoral, but in actuality, she
writes about these extreme situations and portrayals of wrongdoing to express the power of
God in a positive light. O Connor both gracefully and skillfully shows the immoral character of
the Misfit as well as the enlightened character of the grandmother. The characters in A Good
Man is Hard to Find evolve through a sort of metamorphosis. There are changes that occur in
their views of the world and their perceptions about life and death. In this body of work, we see
those changes occur in the Grandmother and in the Misfit. The Misfit is shown to be constantly
experiencing a deep inner struggle with his own convictions. We see this clearly in his
conversation with the Grandmother. O Conner s skillful portrayal of the Misfit helps the reader
to detect some obscure details of his behavior. These details, his gestures, his speech, and his
thoughts are key elements in determining the Misfit s state of mind. We see the grandmother
become timid over the course of the story. She seems to have some type of identity crisis. Starting
off bold and confident, we see the Grandmother very humble and timid by the end. Her ideas of
what she should look like and how she should talk no longer mattered. O Connor also shows that

Romeo And Juliet My Favorite Movie
Shakespeare s Romeo Juliet is one of the most famous plays ever written. Over the years there
have been many different play and film adaptations. Because it has such an interesting story people
have tried to put their own twist to the story. Its not necessarily how they change the story that
makes it interesting, its the way its portrayed and shown. There are quite a few different, but
definitely exciting versions of the greatest love story ever written. Premiering at the Carthay Circle
theatre, the first film adaptation of Romeo and Juliet was in 1936. The reviews were generally
basic. Some critics loved the film, but altogether the critic and public response was less than
enthusiastic. Some people recognized it as a very important contribution... Show more content on

The first, released October 27, 1996, was Romeo + Juliet. Personally it is my favorite film
adaptation of Romeo and Juliet and it loosely relates to west side story. Its about two rival
families in a city, who s hate creates chaos for two teenagers falling in love despite the current
family commotion. Romeo was wonderfully played by the amazing Leonardo DeCaprio and
Juliet was beautifully portrayed by Claire Danes. It was directed by Baz Luhrmann who brought
a very elaborate, fast paced, and eye popping version of the greatest love story of all time. The
critics loved it and so did America because it brought in over 46.3 million dollars in box office
profits. The next film, Tromeo and Juliet, released February 28, 1997 was a very loose
adaptation of Romeo and Juliet. It can only be described as sexual, violent, eye closing, and
BOLD in so many ways. Set in Manhattan it follows Tromeo of the Ques and Juliet of the
Capulets. Both have horrible abusive families who s strife leads Juliet to buy a potion that turns her
into a cow monster, but is returned to normal when Tromeo kisses her. They later find out that they
are siblings, but does not let that stop their love for each other. Despite the mutilation, sex, and
incest the film received generally positive

Parable of the Sadhu Essay
Parable of the Sadhu: Analysis from three general approaches.
The Parable of the Sadhu presents a complex situation which action immediate action was
necessary. Sadhu, an Indian holy man, was discovered naked and barely alive by a group of
multicultural mountaineers during their journey. Each ethnic group did a little to help the Sadhu,
but none assumed full responsibility. Their priority was in climbing the mountain rather than
carrying Sadhu to the village where other people could help him. Although the conditions of the
trip were so that once the mountaineers went down to the village they might not have been able to
come back up, the author of this essay still feels guilty for what was not done for the Sadhu

They focus on cultivating certain characteristics and look at every situation in terms of its potential
influence on the morale of the person (Donaldson 10). This method, although much more helpful
than utilitarianism, still produces an unclear response. On one hand, kindness and compassion are
both virtues that would be cultivated if the mountaineers decided to help the Sadhu and carry him
to the village. On the other hand, if mountaineers continue their journey virtues such as courage and
determination would flourish. It is difficult to decide which virtues are more important than others
and therefore, this method is too ambiguous to be applied to this situation.
Finally, there is deontology, also called non consequentialism. Deontology, in general, focuses on
the motives of the act and the concept of duty (Camenisch 2). Kantian deontology assesses that
there is a Categorical Imperative the highest moral principle that should govern all human actions.
This universal law is stated in two ways:
1) act in a way that one would act with anyone in the same situation, and so that one does not create
an undesirable world and 2) interact with people as human beings with rights and dignity rather
than means to an end (Camenisch 2). This moral principle would be the most fair and useful in the
Sadhu situation. McCoy s friend mentions in the essay that the mountaineers would have probably
acted differently if the Sadhu were a member of

Links Between Organisational Objectives And Personal...
Personal development objectives are affected by organisations goals, as companies will want to
steer their employees in a direction that should meet their corporate strategy and link into the
mission statement. However, personal objectives and organisational objectives should tie in
together and have a common goal, which should meet the needs of both participants (Dransfield,
2000). Although organisational objectives can hold a negative attribute to employee s personal
development, if the company invests time into employees PDP and employees can see that there
is a plan in place for job promotion, then they re more likely to keep their staff (Cotton, 2011). A

Harry Potter Betrayal
From Julius Caesar s twenty three stab wounds to Gatsby s disloyal love, the importance of the
cruel act of betrayal in literature has long been discussed. Perhaps less historically, betrayal has
also appeared in the wizarding world of Harry Potter, as two terrible wars redefine values and
loyalty within the wizarding community. However, betrayal also shows itself in acts of love
and bravery in Rowling s beloved series. In the Harry Potter books betrayals are used to reveal
truths about characters, represent development, and uphold the belief held within all seven of
the books: that we are defined by the choices that we make. Within the Harry Potter series,
betrayals are often used to show sides of characters that we might not have otherwise seen. With
the first wizarding war in full swing Lily and James Potter (in hiding from Lord Voldemort and
his Death Eaters) are betrayed by their close friend Peter Pettigrew. As their secret keeper it is his
responsibility to protect them to his own death. Instead he goes against the traits of his house,

Amendments to the National Constitution
Background In the U.S. legal system, the Constitution forms the basic template for legal theory and
management of law. This document formed the bases for the U.S. government and defined the
three main sections: Executive, Legislative and Judicial. We must remember, too, that the idea of
this constitution of removing ties to a monarchy and setting up a separate government by the
people, for the people, was a very radical idea in the 18th century and had a background not only in
the various documents from the Mayflower Compact to the numerous colonial governmental
charters. There, were however, numerous compromises that had to be made to ensure ratification of
the Constitution. However, had these compromises not been made, (e.g. slavery, etc.) it is unlikely
the colonies would have come together to ratify the document, and the British may have prevailed.

Km and 5,000 sq. Km allocated 6 Kits В· Wards with above 5,000 sq. Km allocated 8 Kits. Since
Wards are different in sizes, even within counties, the analysis of distribution at the county level
or regional level will not provide a representation of a fair conclusion on the spread. For instance,
Kilifi County has 35 Wards of varying sizes but threeWards (Ganze 5,427 sq. km; Bamba
1,532.70; Marafa and 686.90 sq. km.) account for 62% of the entire area of Kilifi County. This
means that the three Wards will get between 6 8 kits and yet the majority of the remaining Wards
will receive four kits each. In the case of Bomet County, the total number of Wards falling within
the second category of 31 500 sq. km is 25. This entitles Bomet to a total of 100 kits using the
formula. The concerns that the population of the unregistered issued with IDs is low and therefore
Bomet does not deserve the number of kits is clearly misleading. Because issuance of IDs is
dynamic and the baseline might change at any given time depending on government policy, the

Daigasso Band Brothers Research Paper
At first glance the Japanese Nintendo DS launch title Daigasso! Band Brothers doesn t look like it
has much to offer. Launch titles in general emphasizes visuals over gameplay but Daigasso! seems
to have not received that memo. Thanks to the DS being very import friendly Western gamers are
also free to check out this title but the question is, why would you want to?
The game opens with a shot of the only music shop in town open at midnight. You are greeted by
Barbara Bat the owner and freaky purple haired(?) mascot of the game but since everything is in
Japanese that s about as much as I could gather. If you are a fan of rhythm games then all that

All the instruments on a track play separately so if you miss your notes or press the wrong buttons

drums probably being the hardest to master.
None of the DS launch titles have exactly boasted impressive visuals but Daigasso! doesn t look
like it even tried. Everything is colourful but the emphasis is squarely on functionality.
Animations are scarce and the few static pictures are mostly of the bat girl. Daigasso! is
obviously a very niche title and not everyone is going to wade through all the foreign text just to
experience it. Those that make the effort will find it worth their while and hopefully a English
version is not too far off. Just goes to show that you don t need gimmicky plastic peripheral to
enjoy a good rhythm game.

every button and the touch screen things get way more hectic than in any guitar hero or rock band
game. The midi tunes sound great and there s enough variety to keep you playing for a long time.

Historical Accuracy Of The Movie Troy
The historical action film Troy, inspired by Homer s Illiad follows the epic battle between the

Julian Glover, Brendan Gleeson, Siri Svegler, and Diane Kruger. The film was directed by
Wolfgang Petersen and primarily produced by the Warner Brothers, Helena Productions, and Latina

The final battle depicted in this film is known as the Sack of Troy. This movie seems accurate
when one is watching it. The detail incorporated into the introductory plot is realistic. For example,
the legends and tales they said about Achilles are viable, as many are aware that he was a great
warrior. The battles were gory and illustrated what a real ancient battle would resemble. Overall,
the film seemed realistic while watching it. The film shows the viewpoints of warriors and their
wives and family from the time period. Yet, it does not show the life of any sort of merchant or
farmer from then. The movie is solely about the battle, and it excludes anyone who is not royalty
or part of the army. An example of this is the final battle scene in Troy. The viewer is not shown
the repercussions of the war on anyone but those who fought. In addition, only one side of the
majority of the protagonist is shown. Achilles, for example, is depicted as a savage killer
throughout the entire film. Even when his own cousin dies, he responds by killing someone.
When his lover is abducted, he responds by proposing a battle. He is constantly illustrated in this
light. Although the general idea of the film may be correct, the historical facts are not. One of
the largest inaccuracies in the film is the length of the Battle of Troy. In reality, the battle lasted
over 10 years whilst in the film it lasts a mere 17 days. It would have made the film less exciting
to include what would seem to be 10 years of battle, so instead the filmmakers just compressed it
into a fraction of the real length of the war. Another inaccuracy is with the characters, and who
lives or dies. The order of fatality is skewed in the film, and many characters die in the film that
did not in the legend. For example, during the film Hector kills Menelaus during his duel against
Paris. However, in reality Menelaus

Analysis of the private security industry data
Over the last several decades, a series of reports and studies have examined the private security
industry. Originally these studies played a roll in defining private security and documenting the
growth and trends in the industry. These studies however, have become outdated and the surveys
used in this research have produced data that the who population cannot utilize or that are
potentially subject to nonresponse bias. Because of this, it is unclear how well one can use these
sources to utilize this data to make assumptions or produce reports on private security as a whole.
Currently, there is no existing data source ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
2) Cover a broad range of topics . A targeted, national (or international) study of the private security
industry should cover a broad range of topics in order to minimize any potential measurement error
caused by combining data from multiple sources that use different definitions of private security.
Therefore, it is important that a future study not only fill in the recognized information gaps on
private security, such as the value of the industry as a whole, but also obtain reliable and updated
statistics, such as employee demographics, that are sufficiently covered by other surveys.

3) Collect data collection rigorously by geography. Research must combat methodological and
response rate challenges that affected past data collection efforts based on the specific area. This
should include the development of a sampling frame that provides more representative coverage of
the companies from specific geographies. Furthermore, procedures must include non response
follow up and clearly defined geographical categories to ensure a reasonable response rate.

Another remarkable value panda withheld is its extraordinary cultural value. The two colors the

According to the Encyclopedia Britiannica, Yin Yang is the two complementary forces that make

There will be one less thing to represent this unique idea if we do not save these endangered species

on their website that the WWF founders would like a strong and recognizable symbol to

Expectations And Expectations
Expectations are real. Expectation usually creates anticipation for something that has not yet
entered our personal space or domain. As a tree loses leaves and even the whole branches with the
onslaught of strong winds and storms, so shall our expectations die, and are reborn. We cannot
curb them, as the tree could not stop new leaves and branches from forming. But while they are
with us, we must avoid being over demanding. The hustle for superiority is passionately engraved
on the hearts of many and its pursuits often skip steps which will always demand to be revisited...
Our expectationof others is so great such that it has become the major cause of sadness and
disappointment. Greater expectation that is focused on how we think others should conduct
themselves, take on their assigned responsibilities and etc., will only bring abject sinking and
disintegration. It is for the same reason some who can t stand pressure end up quitting prematurely.

Brother Lamont Coakley says that, When character does not collaborate with your blessing; your
blessing becomes a curse. God s blessings come in form of massive opportunities without
limitation but there is a need for spiritual and emotional preparation to sustain the availed
blessings. Opportunity is often difficult to recognize. Claude McDonald said that, Opportunity
is a bird that never perches. It is possible not to see an opportunity until it has ceased to be one. It
is therefore advisable to jump at every small opportunity available in bid to get to your intended
destiny. But without characters opportunities become purposeless and abuse is inevitable. Your

Drum Solo Research Paper
A drum solo is defined as being a instrumental solo played on the drum kit. A drum solo may be
preconceived or improvised, and of any length. Rock solos often times have little to absolutely no
accompaniment from the other band members and don t necessarily have to stick to the tempo,
form or structure of the song. Jazzdrumsolos on the other hand, often trade fours (or eights or
even twelves, in the case of blues) with other soloing instruments and will stick with the form and
structure. The 1980 s actually saw a decline in drummers recording drum solos because too many
drummers had done a lot of solos on record, but that doesn t mean some of the best solos didn t
come out in this decade. I put together a list that features 15 well known drum solos from the 1980 s.

Velcro Fly by ZZ Top from the Afterburner album released in 1987. From ZZ Top s electronic
period, probably the most complicated thing drummer Frank Beard did during this period. It s a
pattern that he repeats throughout the song, making the song most known, not for it s guitar but for
the drums, a rarity from a band with Billy Gibbons on guitar.
14. In the Air Tonight by Phil Collins from the Face Value album which was released in 1981. You
hear very little drums in this song, until the solo part, which after the solo the drums are very
pronounced.
13. Freedom by Alice Cooper from the Raise Your Fist and Yell album which was released in 1987.
For Alice Cooper, this is one of his heaviest albums, this song kicks off the album by showing it s
going to be heavier than anything he s ever done by doing some double bass drum work.
12. Radar Love by White Lion from the Big Game album which came out in 1989. This song was
a cover of the Golden Earring song. This solo features a trade off between just the drummer, and
the whole band playing along, and then he starts playing a little shuffle type, utilizing his ride

We care about what people say and think about ourselves. And we take it personally especially

brutally kill Ralph by burning him out of the island. In the novel it states The fire was a big one

shows that the boys were using a huge fire to try to burn out Ralph from the island so that they

Steve Harmon Character Analysis
CHARACTER DESCRIPTION INVOLVEMENT Steve Harmon Steve Harmon is a 16 year
old black man who is being convicted of felony murder and participating in a holdup at a
drugstore. Steve grew up in a bad neighborhood and on multiple occasions admired the tough
thug guys and even wanted to be like King (pg 96). His flashbacks show us that Steve did talk to
King, Johnny and Cruz about a planned holdup, (pg 50) though in court he outright lies and says
that he never talked to either one of them about anything important enough to remember (pg
226). When in prison, Steve is terrified of the other guys and guards (pg 96) and gives us the
impression that he is innocent and doesn t belong there. Steve wants to make himself different
than the other guys in his mind and the mind of the jury, but he goes through hard times where
he sees himself as just another criminal (pg 129.) He proves to be a pretty good kid in his film
class with Mr. Sawicki (pg 234) and loves his little brother, Jerry (pg 58). Steve sees himself as a
good person, though he admits that he has made mistakes. Steve s biggest struggle throughout the
novel is against his moral, as he tries to figure out if he really he is a monster like Petrocelli
called him. Filmmaking becomes his way of coping with the environment while on trial. Through
his screenplay his can separate himself from his inner and outer fears and make sense of his
experience. Filmmaking allows Steve to look at things from an outside perspective. Kathy

Literature Review Of Stirling Engine
Literature Review Stirling engines were invented in the early 1800 s and since then there have
been major changes to the design to adjust to certain criteria. In the early stages of the engine the
ability to create highly efficient engines became limited due to technology and materials available.
All the sources sampled agree on what a Stirling enginewas and what characteristics make them
different. A Stirling engine is a heat enginethat has the heating and cooling of the gas which then
applies pressure on the piston heads thus moving both the gases and the pistons creating energy
(American Stirling Company, n.d). Other articles on Stirling engines agree, saying Stirling
engines are machines that operate in a closed regenerative thermodynamic cycle. The use of
Stirling engines is based off the Stirling engine cycle of power (Asnaghi, Ladjevardi, Izadkhast,
Kashani, 2012). Other respected articles agree with this basic definition of the engine saying that
applying an external heat source to a closed cylinder where the cyclical expansion and
compression of air inside the cylinder drives the pistons up and down (Helman, 2015) and because
the engine is a closed system the expansion of gases cause the pistons to move (Saab, 2015). An
introduction to a 2010 study points out that there are more concepts to the Stirling engine then just
mechanics saying, The Stirling engine is based on the materials, development, and design of the
engine to determine how well it works

From a feminist perspective, one emphasizes women, their experiences, and their role in society
while promoting equality in gender. Cultural aspects and generational stereotypes are also
addressed. Not only does this perspective deal with females, but also with male roles in society,
how to explain social differences between genders, and gender oppression. Other questions feminist
look at are how do men and women s values differ and how men and women perspectives change in

Justifying Reproductive Cloning For Logistical Motives Essay
Justifying Reproductive Cloning for Logistical Motives
In this age of technology and innovation, what was once science fiction is now becoming a reality.
Human reproductive cloning is on the forefront for providing prospective parents with a new mode
of reproduction. However, with the concept of reproductive cloning comes an unprecedented set of
ethical issues. Issues especially focused on how cloning may affect the child s right to an open
future are highlighted by philosophers such as Dena Davis. Davis takes a neutral stance on
reproductive cloning and argues that it is morally impermissible when used for duplicative
motives, but permissible when used for logistical motives. Duplicative motives are when the
genetic replication itself... is the attraction (Davis 160) and the parents wish for their child to be a
mere copy of their donor. Logistical motivations are when the parents end goal is simply to have a
child that is genetically related (Davis 159). Davis leaves the evaluation of such parental motives in
the hands of healthcare professionals. Philosophers McGee and Wilmut add to Davis position, but
call for a more holistic evaluation of parental motives and competency by following an adoption
model. In this paper, I will support Davis argument on the moral permissibility of reproductive
cloning under logistical motivations by addressing the main concerns that surround reproductive
cloning. First, I shall reconstruct Davis argument in favor of reproductive cloning

The Pros And Cons Of Political Reform Commissions
In early December 1999, the new PUP government announced that it was establishing a broad
based Political Reform Commission to review Belize s system of governance and develop
proposals for reform. On January 13, 1999, Prime Minister, the Honorable Said Musa officially
launched the Commission in BelizeCity. Some of the things the Reform Commission was
mandated for are: to review the system of governance and to make recommendations for its
improvement, whether by amendments to the Constitution or laws or otherwise, with a view to
achieving greater democracy. Also, to take account of all the ideas and proposals made over the
past few years by different organizations. Some members of the Reform Commission are: Senator

Therefore, I disagree with the commission s recommendation. I believe that Belize should
change from Parliamentary Executive to Executive Presidential. In such case, having the
Parliamentary Executive system has quite a few disadvantages. Some of them are: quick
decision making, the system has not effectively prevented the increase of official waste and
corruption, and the House and even more so the Senate serve largely as rubber stamps for
Cabinet decisions. If we continue to use this system, the people will not be able to be a part of
the decision making because this system is of a dictatorship. It means that even if we disagree
with something, it s not us who have the final say. Also, it didn t decrease waste and corruption
but I believe instead it has increased. Moreover, saying that the House and Senate serves largely as
a rubber stamp for Cabinet decisions means that the House and the Senate are approving matters or
making decisions without real power. The House Senate aren t very important to what they

The Duff Movie Analysis Of The Movie
Thuy Ngan Le NguyenMovie Analysis Paper : The DUFF
The movie, The DUFF, is a typical high school movie that revolves around a senior girl named
Bianca who at the beginning of the movie is completely contented with who she really was. She
had two very attractive and popular best friends who were Jess and Casey. The story all began
when Madison, aka the mean popular girl who seeks for attention at school invited them to a
night party at her house. Well at first, Bianca doesn t want to come. As she heard that her crush
Toby will be there; she was forced to come. During the party, Wesley, who is her childhood friend
whom she doesn t like that much come to talk to her. It was a normal conversation until he
suddenly called her the Duff which is the abbreviated term for Designated Ugly Fat Friend. After
that incident, Bianca s life was not the same as it was before. She tried to sought for a change and
asked Wes help for her to transform from a Duff into somebody that actually fit in among the crowd.
After going through lots of changes, she was then able to realize things that she never thought of
before. At the end, she was able to understand that being a Duff is not actually a bad thing because
in reality, we are always going to be somebody s duff. This movie analysis paper will define,
describe and make connections between the three important concepts including self concept,
perception, and self esteem in relation to the movie, The DUFF.
At the beginning of the movie, it showcases a very confident girl who walked with her two
pretty friends, Jess and Casey, and never felt out of place. She is that type of girl who would
oftentimes wear comfortable clothes at school such as pajamas. She doesn t care about what
other people think of her, as long as she is happy, she is fine with that. Bianca s self concept was
defined as her own identity, perception of self and who she thinks she is. She used to have a
great concept of herself by believing that she does belong. However, the development of her self
concept was greatly affected by reflected appraisals which refers to self concept that reflects the
way we believe others see us. This involves judgements made by other people especially significant
others that

Impact Of Globalisation On Higher Education
Globalisation is the evolution of society which affect human life, education is one of those,
especially in postgraduate degrees which receive the most influence from globalisation. The
development in technologies and communication have produced a shift in learning system which
affect cultures and national economic growth. Higher educationsystems has been transformed by
globalisation, which is the widening, deepening and speeding up of worldwide interconnectedness
(Held et al., 1999, p.14). When examining the impact of globalisation on higher educationall over
the world, the positive and negative aspects of this phenomenon have been widely mentioned. Some
writers argue that globalisation has the destructive effect to the postgraduate system in developing
nations and non English speaking developed nations (Marginson, 2006). Although the downsides of
globalisation to higher education remain highly controversial, the occurrence of this phenomenon
could significantly encourage national universities and governments to develop their standard of
higher education which will benefit to students (Damme, 2001). Globalisation could increase
cultural exchange and multicultural reality as well. This article sets out to analyse critically the
overview of globalisation and how it has valuable effects to higher education in long terms.
There are a large number of definitions for Globalisation which could have different meaning for
different people. According to Knight (2001), it

Essay On Green Mountain s Dark Magic
Green Mountain s Dark Magic K Cup is a bit magic and a bit dark and a lot good
There s a beginning, middle and end in most movies and books. The exposition serves to set the
scene, followed by the rising action, climax, falling action and finally, the resolution. If coffee were
a movie, then this extra bold K Cup picks up right before the climax. The victim: Green Mountain
Coffee s Dark Magic K Cup is marketed as an extra bold pod that contains more coffee than
regular K Cups. Is it really extra bold? Using a Keurig 2.0 brewing system, I set off to answer this
very question. The machine rumbles to life and an opaque liquid gurgles into the cup. It looks
pretty bold. The aroma quickly finds my olfactory nerve. It s thick and savory. There s nothing
sweet about this fragrance. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Picture of Dorian Gray smack in the middle where he s obsessing over a cloth covered

painting. Keurig s Dark Magic brew leaves you wanting more.
The Dark Magic K Cup has nothing on other dark roast brews like Barista Prima Coffeehouse s
Italian Roast, which provides a full bodied cup of coffee whether you re ready for it or not. In
contrast, Dark Magic is much more palatable than similar brews like Green Mountain s Wicked
Winter blend. The only thing wicked about this pod is the vibrant blue color housing the K Cup.
The background: Green Mountain Coffee Roasters began as a small, specialty coffee company in
Vermont, in 1981, where they offered an assortment of coffee flavors and tea blends. Their
business excelled and eventually supplied coffee products to many retailers, convenience stores
and gas stations across the U.S. In 1994, GMCR invested in startup company Keurig and became

  • 2. Other People s Footage Documentary Analysis The basic argument of the documentary, Other People s Footage, is to explain the process of using copyrighted footage for a new purpose, whether that be in films, music, etc. The documentary states that fair use comes out of the first amendment, which means it is completely legal to use. It also argues that fair useis easy to implement, as long as you follow three simple questions that deal with content and time limits. The new work must be transformative as well. This means something new needs to be created for the work to be considered transformative. Although fair use can potentially be a scary thing if used incorrectly, a rock solid Yes to all three questions mentioned in the documentary will put you in the 100% comfort zone. There... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At around the 23 24 minute mark the documentary explains the first Auburn Alabama game that Jackson plays in. If the documentary had solely used interviews, stats, and testimonials to get the point across this scene would have been extremely boring. However, it uses actual footage from the game, including audio from the broadcast, in the form of short videoclips. This includes a touchdown run from Jackson, and the opening kickoff among others. Every clip from this scene passes the three questions that must be answered. The point to be made in the documentary is that Bo Jackson was a phenomenal football player, which is reaffirmed in the touchdown run. If the documentary used entire possessions or quarters, then this would have been inappropriate for the demonstration. However, this is not done and each clip is short enough to be considered reasonably appropriate. The connection to be made is clear to the viewer because the clips show what is being said. There is also a lot of buildup to this game, so it is clear the clips relate to what is being ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Jack Mandala Quotes Character Mandala Jack s Introduction: Jack craves power from the beginning of the novel when he is not elected as chief and finally gets it when he gains control of the savages. Jack becomes the leader of the savages and slips further and further away from civilization by the day, as he kills pigs for pleasure and even kills some of the boys. Jack has a very aggressive personality and is ugly and gangly. *I put brown and green together because they represent the same thing Brown and green The brown and green represent Jack s mask. Golding uses the mask to represent savagery and human nature, showing how Jack was consumed by his barbaric instincts. Similarly, I placed the brown and green on the outside to illustrate how the mask consumes him. Furthermore, Jack uses the mask to ВЁhid(e behind), liberated from shame and self consciousness...ВЁ(Golding 64). • 7. The Rise Of The Adult Entertainment Industry The rise of the adult entertainment industry has exploded in both popularity and accessibility within the last thirty years as a result of the emergence of pay per view adult movies, pornographic websites, and 1 900 phone lines. The number of topless bars, exotic car washes, X rated theaters, and massage parlors in business has boomed greatly. Within this time, United States Supreme Court decisions recognized that First Amendment protection might very well extend to some types of non obscene pornography and nude dancing as a form of nonverbal expressive speech (1). Though consequently, the possibility for such First Amendment right protection paved the way for increases in adult businesses. Although it may seem unlikely, the fate of First Amendment freedoms is irrevocably linked to the ongoing conflict between the agents administering the adult entertainment and those who defend public decency. The expansion of adult business have generated intense concern among communities, with many individuals believing that the proliferation of adult material including X rated movie viewing facilities, topless bars, and adult bookstores, ultimately threatens property values, and are morally hazardous to their community (2). As a strong trend to regulate such businesses, governments around the country, and specifically in North Carolina, have begun to significantly restrict the locations of such adult oriented establishments. Such regulations put into effect restrict such businesses to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Constitutional Law And The Legal System With the media giving cost play to the term Constitutional , in reference to ongoing discussions between the Executive Branch and the Legislative Branch, some confusion concerning the power of Constitutional Law and its foundation for our legal system is understandable. Constitutional law is not confined to the founding document as the sole source of our legal system. It includes the past rulings of the Supreme Court, as well as guidance given in the various writings of the original founding fathers and the precedence of Common Law. Thus Constitutional Law encompasses the entire sphere of American Jurisprudence and its continued evolution will have a resounding effect on both the rights and liberties of the individual for generations to come. Division and Enumeration of Powers The first three articles of the U.S. Constitution describe the division of power among the three branches of the Federal Government. Article I, Sections 1 10 enumerate the powers and duties of the Legislative branch. Article II, Sections 1 4 concern the powers and duties of the Executive Branch and Article III, Sections 1 3 enumerates the duties and powers of the Legislative Branch. Significantly, the enumerated powers are not an exhaustive list. Not all powers are delimited in relation to the other branches nor to that of the States. Thus, the powers of each branch has been further determined by Supreme Court rulings, under the guise of specific powers outlined in these three Articles. Therefore, ... From the radio playing a favourite song to a text received about the results of a game, people use technology constantly. However, there is a point at which people are overtaken by technology; when he wave engulfs us and there is no way out. People are becoming more and dependent on technology. Ever since technology began heavily integrating itself into society, many major uses have developed, but at a cost that brings on dangerous side effects, both mental and physical, as shown by the potential Y2k bug, that will continue unless active measures are sought out by those so dependent on technology. Outside of the classroom and the office, technology is still omnipresent. • 10. How the Hippies Counterculture Transformed Music Essay In the 1950 s and 1960 s, rebellion and music were synonymous. The 1950 s brought widespread attention to a new kind of music coined as Rock n Roll . Because parents deemed the music as sinful, the youth used it to establish an identity for themselvess. In the 1960 s, the rebellion was given a collective charge when young adults voiced displeasure over the country s entrance into the Vietnam War and the use of nuclear weapons. One group within this movement was coined the hippies . In his book titled The Making of a Counterculture: Reflections on the Technocratic Society and Its Youthful Opposition, historian Theodore Roszak described a counterculture as typically involving disapproval or an attempted dismissal of those institutions which presently hold some level of dominance, while simultaneously having hope for an improved life in a new society, in terms of thinking and being. There has been some level of debate, discussing whether or not the hippie movement of the 1960 s and 1970 s matched this definition. Was the movement solely a product of the hippie s clustered university lifestyle, where common experimentation with drugs as well as political activism served as their own sources of rebellion? This notion was argued by anthropologist William L. Partridge, in his case study titled The Hippie Ghetto: The Natural History of a Subculture. Roszak argues in his book about a hippie rejection of technocracy: the system of organizations and elite experts that influences society to attach itself to the importance of efficiency, rationalizing, planning, and necessity, which hippies felt was clearly depicted by the nuclear arms race and fight against communism between the United States and U.S.S.R. ... • 12. Metaphors In American Childhood We could have ran through every backyard in North America until we got to Panama (Dillard 48). This is just one of Dillard s many metaphors throughout the novel that portrays a deep awareness of space and time. Through metaphors Dillard captures a true depth in the novel that regular sentences can not obtain. Normal sentences might pull a reader in, however metaphors can truly captivate the reader to imagine all new possibilities. Dillard shows through metaphors of sight, time, and understandingthat as you grow older your awareness of time and spacedeepens in understanding. Sight is one of the few senses that a young child is able to use freely. A young child can have an outlook that looks completely different than what an adult has. In An American Childhood, Dillard explores her Pittsburgh and sees many things including, which she describes as, a black phalanx (34). This metaphor is explicit because a phalanx is meant for a mass of people, not a few nuns that are walking down the street. Phalanx describes these nuns well because it is a word Dillard attributes to something she sees as unknown and mystifying. The mystifying nuns represent one of the first real things that Dillard sees in Pittsburgh that frightens her. Dillard uses this metaphor as a sign of fear when amongst the nuns, but the reader can see through her word choice that the awareness she has of the world is pretty open. Dillard is able to see nuns in her travels and think deeply about her thoughts. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. What Are Some Fishermen For Fishing During Adverse Weather... Part A Question 1: The article suggests some fishermen choose piracy as an alternative to fishing during adverse weather conditions. The table below lists some of the marginal costs and benefits to fisherman during the adverse weather conditions. As shown above, not all cost can be measured in monetary value. Implicit costs such as opportunity costs are also considered as these are important in order to determine the economic profit. Piracy has far more monetary benefits than fishing during the adverse weather as suggested in the table. Furthermore, the marginal costs of piracy are mostly based to threats/expectations, while the marginal costs of fishing are mostly based on facts. Hence it can be said that piracy has more marginal benefits than fishing during the adverse weather, which causes an increase in piracy. • 14. The Fourth Amendment To The Criminal Justice System There has always been the thought that police can abuse their power especially when it comes to collection of evidence that could incriminate someone for something that was illegally obtained. The exclusionary rule was put in place to counteract evidence that may have ben illegally obtained to be inadmissible in a court of law with few exceptions to the rule. Under the Fourth Amendment, the police cannot just force their way into someone s home without probable cause. Even with probable cause, the police need to have the consent of the owner or a warrant that says they can search the premises, and that anything they find can be used against you in a court of law (Miller, 2016). The Fourth Amendment is one of the most important amendments to the criminal justice system. The Fourth protects citizens from the police obtaining things that could lead citizens to be convicted for something that the police did not have permission to obtain in the first place. The exclusionary rule was put in place by Mapp v. Ohio and Weeks v. United States. In Weeks V. United States, Weeks was convicted of transporting lottery tickets through the mail when police illegally search his home without a search warrant. The police went to his house where they search Weeks s room and took possession of various papers and articles found there, which were afterwards turned over to the United States marshal They then returned to weeks home to search for more stuff that could be used against Weeks. In the 1940 s, however, this unity disappeared. After the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941 by Japan, all Japanese Americans were sent to internment camps in hopes of catching a traitor. A young girl, along with eight siblings and her mother, was taken to camp Manzanar. Her father had already been taken away from the family. This is the start of an autobiography, Farewell to Manzanar by Jeannie Wakatsuki and James D. Houston. At camp Manzanar, a young girl, Jeannie, faces many obstacles that she was not prepared for. To this day, there are still many debates about the idea of internment camps.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even before they were sent to Manzanar, suspicious Japanese Americans, like Papa, were removed from their homes. As soon as Papa was taken away, he and his family began living in a broken home. This was only the beginning of the broken home, however. When the rest of Jeannie s family was shipped to Manzanar, they began separating apart, too. It started when they stopped eating meals as a family and instead ate at different times and places. It is important for a family to eat together so they feel secured and included within their own household. Jeannie s family truly snapped when Papa returned to Manzanar. He was different he had started to sip (wine and brandy) till he was blind drunk and passed out (50). His drinking caused abuse to his family. He began to hit Mama and verbally abuse his children. A family should never have to physically harm each other to exemplify discipline. A true family needs to feel secure among one another, with no distractions that may impair the family. In this case, Papa was the distraction. His time away from home and from his family had made him make negative decisions. It was very unjust that innocent families were thrown apart because of the Japanese ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. Family Planning And Poverty The mainstreaming of the family planning agenda in many countries over the decades has been accompanied by increased researcher interest in the subject, with a lot of research attention being focused on the link between family planning and poverty. Empirical research studies using standard economic models have demonstrated that increased access to familyplanning services is associated with lower rates of poverty. This effect has been posited as occurring through a number of channels. The first channel is the family size channel. As per this channel, increased access to family planning reduces the number of children per family, which results into parents devoting more time and resources per child, and occasioning higher per child investment that should lead to material decline in household poverty (Bailey, Malkova and McLaren, 2013). The second channel is the household income channel. Here, increased access to family planning services helps to free up more resources, which can then be invested in the improvement of the human capital of the parents. For instance, delaying parenthood can enable the soon to be parents to pursue further education, gain more work experience, or enroll for further job training, and thus raise their lifetime earnings levels (Bailey, Malkova and Norling, 2014). For instance, Bailey, Hershbein, and Miller (2012) demonstrated that women who had access to the pill were able to delay motherhood and to invest in their careers, resulting in higher wage ... It has also made him outraged at his old hypocrisy when he actually touches the pain of the poor that for a matter of seconds he felt an immense satisfaction that he could talk of suffering to them now without hypocrisy it is hard for the sleek and well fed priest to praise poverty. The reader comes to see that he is really a good man when he gives the priest money before knowing his truth, and even after he knows that he is a priest, the lieutenant s character develops and softens; as he breaks the rules he has always been committed to and brings the priest a bottle of brandy and tries to find someone to hear his confessions. Entering our armed forces brings great opportunities, but a lot of stress as well. Being given the freedom and the chance to serve is phenomenal. Every race, gender, or sexual orientation should have a right to join, or so we thought. Why shouldn t certain minority groups not be allowed to serve? Upon joining the armed forces many benefits step forward, but do some of these benefits go too far? Many army recruiters come to schools and always mention the benefits. Transgender veterans or personnel need medications and maybe some surgery which cost quite a sum of money that gets passed to the government to pay (West). The government should not be paying for transition surgery or medications, due to it being the taxpayers money(West). People that are transgender should be able to pay for their own hormones and surgeries because other transgender people not in the military do so(West). In many ways too they could be disqualified for the medications and the surgery before entering the armed forces (Allen). It s known that infants need warm temperatures and special care to live, but here Magda did not have the basic needs for a child to survive. On the other hand, if mountaineers continue their journey virtues such as courage and determination would flourish. Perhaps less historically, betrayal has also appeared in the wizarding world of Harry Potter, as two terrible wars redefine values and loyalty within the wizarding community. However, betrayal also shows itself in acts of love and bravery in Rowling s beloved series. • 36. Amendments to the National Constitution Background In the U.S. legal system, the Constitution forms the basic template for legal theory and management of law. This document formed the bases for the U.S. government and defined the three main sections: Executive, Legislative and Judicial. We must remember, too, that the idea of this constitution of removing ties to a monarchy and setting up a separate government by the people, for the people, was a very radical idea in the 18th century and had a background not only in the various documents from the Mayflower Compact to the numerous colonial governmental charters. There, were however, numerous compromises that had to be made to ensure ratification of the Constitution. However, had these compromises not been made, (e.g. slavery, etc.) it is unlikely the colonies would have come together to ratify the document, and the British may have prevailed. Biometric Voter Registration Case Study Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has defended the formula used to distribute the Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) kits for the ongoing mass voter registration exercise. The commission on Friday sent a press release to the media seeking to give a clarification on concerns raised by sections of the public on the ongoing exercise. The statement by IEBC s Communications Corporate Affairs Manager Tabitha Mutemi has clarified that the allocation of BVR machines was based on the lowest electoral unit, which is the County Assembly Ward (CAW), and the number of kits assigned according to size, taking into consideration ease of access to the kit by potential voters. ...The allocation was based on the lowest electoral unit, which is the County... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Km and 5,000 sq. Km allocated 6 Kits В· Wards with above 5,000 sq. Km allocated 8 Kits. Since Wards are different in sizes, even within counties, the analysis of distribution at the county level or regional level will not provide a representation of a fair conclusion on the spread. For instance, Kilifi County has 35 Wards of varying sizes but threeWards (Ganze 5,427 sq. km; Bamba 1,532.70; Marafa and 686.90 sq. km.) account for 62% of the entire area of Kilifi County. This means that the three Wards will get between 6 8 kits and yet the majority of the remaining Wards will receive four kits each. In the case of Bomet County, the total number of Wards falling within the second category of 31 500 sq. km is 25. This entitles Bomet to a total of 100 kits using the formula. The concerns that the population of the unregistered issued with IDs is low and therefore Bomet does not deserve the number of kits is clearly misleading. Because issuance of IDs is dynamic and the baseline might change at any given time depending on government policy, the Commission decided it was prudent to use a more static variable that infuses equity across the country... read the statement by IEBC in ... It was released in 2004, and features some of Hollywood s best such as Brad Pitt and Orlando Bloom. Other significant actors include Erica Bana, Brian Cox, Julian Glover, Brendan Gleeson, Siri Svegler, and Diane Kruger. The film was directed by Wolfgang Petersen and primarily produced by the Warner Brothers, Helena Productions, and Latina Pictures, thus making the film an American Hollywood production. The final battle depicted in this film is known as the Sack of Troy. This movie seems accurate when one is watching it. The detail incorporated into the introductory plot is realistic. For example, the legends and tales they said about Achilles are viable, as many are aware that he was a great warrior. The battles were gory and illustrated what a real ancient battle would resemble. Overall, the film seemed realistic while watching it. The film shows the viewpoints of warriors and their wives and family from the time period. Yet, it does not show the life of any sort of merchant or farmer from then. The movie is solely about the battle, and it excludes anyone who is not royalty or part of the army. An example of this is the final battle scene in Troy. The viewer is not shown the repercussions of the war on anyone but those who fought. In addition, only one side of the majority of the protagonist is shown. Achilles, for example, is depicted as a savage killer throughout the entire film. Even when his own cousin dies, he responds by killing someone. When his lover is abducted, he responds by proposing a battle. He is constantly illustrated in this light. Although the general idea of the film may be correct, the historical facts are not. One of the largest inaccuracies in the film is the length of the Battle of Troy. In reality, the battle lasted over 10 years whilst in the film it lasts a mere 17 days. It would have made the film less exciting to include what would seem to be 10 years of battle, so instead the filmmakers just compressed it into a fraction of the real length of the war. Another inaccuracy is with the characters, and who lives or dies. The order of fatality is skewed in the film, and many characters die in the film that did not in the legend. For example, during the film Hector kills Menelaus during his duel against Paris. However, in reality Menelaus ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 49. Literature Review Of Stirling Engine Literature Review Stirling engines were invented in the early 1800 s and since then there have been major changes to the design to adjust to certain criteria. In the early stages of the engine the ability to create highly efficient engines became limited due to technology and materials available. All the sources sampled agree on what a Stirling enginewas and what characteristics make them different. A Stirling engine is a heat enginethat has the heating and cooling of the gas which then applies pressure on the piston heads thus moving both the gases and the pistons creating energy (American Stirling Company, n.d). Other articles on Stirling engines agree, saying Stirling engines are machines that operate in a closed regenerative thermodynamic cycle. The use of Stirling engines is based off the Stirling engine cycle of power (Asnaghi, Ladjevardi, Izadkhast, Kashani, 2012). Other respected articles agree with this basic definition of the engine saying that applying an external heat source to a closed cylinder where the cyclical expansion and compression of air inside the cylinder drives the pistons up and down (Helman, 2015) and because the engine is a closed system the expansion of gases cause the pistons to move (Saab, 2015). An introduction to a 2010 study points out that there are more concepts to the Stirling engine then just mechanics saying, The Stirling engine is based on the materials, development, and design of the engine to determine how well it works ... Justifying Reproductive Cloning For Logistical Motives Essay Justifying Reproductive Cloning for Logistical Motives In this age of technology and innovation, what was once science fiction is now becoming a reality. Human reproductive cloning is on the forefront for providing prospective parents with a new mode of reproduction. However, with the concept of reproductive cloning comes an unprecedented set of ethical issues. Issues especially focused on how cloning may affect the child s right to an open future are highlighted by philosophers such as Dena Davis. Davis takes a neutral stance on reproductive cloning and argues that it is morally impermissible when used for duplicative motives, but permissible when used for logistical motives. Duplicative motives are when the genetic replication itself... is the attraction (Davis 160) and the parents wish for their child to be a mere copy of their donor. Logistical motivations are when the parents end goal is simply to have a child that is genetically related (Davis 159). Davis leaves the evaluation of such parental motives in the hands of healthcare professionals. Philosophers McGee and Wilmut add to Davis position, but call for a more holistic evaluation of parental motives and competency by following an adoption model. In this paper, I will support Davis argument on the moral permissibility of reproductive cloning under logistical motivations by addressing the main concerns that surround reproductive cloning.
