The Juxtaposition Of Private Witt And First Sgt. Welsch
The juxtaposition of Private Witt and First Sgt. Welsch in The Thin Red Line by
Terrence Malick is used to illustrate the two ways that a man can view the world, in the
most basic sense. John Cottingham also discusses these two ways in his book Philosophy
of Religion. Cottingham describes the two ways as the atheist, who cannot see past the
disorganized concatenation of contingent episodes in his experiences, and fails to find
transcendent meaning in his experienceof nature (Cottingham 61). This describes Welsch
s worldview. He has experienced war and from that experience he has concluded that
there is no vertical plane that can draw him up. There is only the darkness here and
now, all we can do is try to survive as long as we can. However, there is another way of
seeing things, the way of the theist, or Private Witt. According to Cottingham, the theist
not only can, but must have a sense of joy, reverence, and thankfulness for the
experiences we have, because the theist can see the beauty, or as Witt would say, the
glory, that shines through all things. The theist has a transfigured experience of reality. A
theist encounters God in a profound way through his experience of nature, art, literature,
and the like. The two views are strikingly different, and Mallick uses Witt and Welsch s
interactions, as well as nearly every other moment in the film, to illustrate the two
manner of seeing the world. In their first interaction, Welsch spells out his beliefs about

Reader Response For The Kite Runner
Reader Response for The Kite Runner Section 1 Writing Style: Khaled Hosseini,
author of The Kite Runner, is most definitely different than other authors. He uses
strong, detailed words that may be difficult, at some points, to understand. His use of
vocabulary is rather challenging for me. The more use of challenging vocabulary, in
my opinion, makes the book even more interesting. Now, I m not a big fan of reading,
but after reading this book, I had found an interest in reading more challenging books
like The Kite Runner. Not knowing a word can change the whole scene by finding out
what it actually means. Now, Khaled uses a wide variety of figurative language to grab
your attention. Khaled Hosseiniuses mainly similes, metaphors,... Show more content on

His eyes flicked to me. I wanted to laugh for some reason. Or scream. I brought the ball
of my hand to my mouth and bit on it. Baba laughed softly through his nose. (Hosseini

In this moment, Amir is very excited with Baba because he is calling the general
about Soraya. Amir has a little thing for Soraya, by which later in the novel, she
becomes his wife. The text in this novel was pretty straightforward, you just have to
identify the figurative language that the author uses, because he uses a lot of it to make
the book more challenging. He also uses a lot of dialogue. My personal favorite is a
passage from the end of the novel.
It was only a smile, nothing more. It didn t make everything alright. It didn t make
anything all right. Only a smile. A tiny thing. A leaf in the woods, shaking in the wake
of a startled bird s flight. But I ll take it. With open arms. Because when spring comes, it
melts the snow one flake at a time, and maybe I just witnessed the first flake melting
(Hosseini 371).
The reason why this is my favorite passage is because, when Hassan and Amir were
kids, Hassan would run the kite for Amir, and during this passage, Amir s nephew

African American Dancers With Pink Ribbons
C. Investigation.
A post by Eric Underwood ( source H ) challenged Bloche (a major dance wear
company) on social media by posting a picture of himself painting his ballet shoes with
his skin tone make up. A phenomenon used by most dancers of colour as dance shoes
tend to only come in beige ,pink ,white and black. A White Russian dancer replied to
Eric Underwoods post with Why don t dancers of colour use ordinary black shoes . This
was not the only racially offensive comment made towards the post and is one of many
made daily towards dancers of colour. This is what provoked this investigation. An
investigation that provides insight into the obstacles/challenges encountered by African
American dancers with regards to being successful in the world of dance and key figures
that have overcome this struggle.
There are many major obstacle facing African American dancers that contribute to
racial segregation in the dance world. For instance flesh coloured shoes with pink
ribbons are the traditional foot wear for ballet which dates back the 1820 s. Many
African American dancers have questioned major dance wear companies who use this
tradition as an excuse not to provide all the different skin tone dance wear. It is not only
the dance wear companies refusing to adapt to modern societies idea of equality but
other white dancers and companies as well.

Space Catalog Research Paper
New database is Hubble Space Telescope s legacy S. Mathur Over 25 years, the Hubble
Space Telescope (HST) has collected more than 100 million bits of data and images of
astronomical objects and space phenomena. These have been maintained in the
Barbara A. Mikulski Archive for Space Telescope (MAST), but the collection was not
easily accessed or searched. Researchers at the Space Telescope Science Institute and
the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland have now made these available
in a new database called the Hubble Space Catalog. The Hubble Space Catalog can be
considered to be the HST s legacy achievement, expected to serve the needs of
researchers for decades. According to TamГЎs BudavГЎri, astronomer and member of

Apple Took Advantage Of The Great Recession
Q1. Apple took advantage of The Great Recession (2007 2009) after many of its
competitors had bankrupt or suffered from huge losses, causing an excessive of the
amount of the unsold components that the manufacturers had produce. They could not
find a market that can buy them, Apple sees that as an opportunity to buy those
components, such as memory chips and LCDs, at lower prices and in most the time at
cost, and use it as a competitive advantage in its manufacturing.
Apple s management had predicted its margins to be shrieked for the next 5 years; as a
cause of that recession that reshaped the market. The management took a fast and smart
decision and they predict the market after they analyzed it and found out that they can
make better future by using the low prices of the parts, rather than downsizing.
Apple had adapted to the market change by developing the app revolution, where
developers (most of them are apple s customers) can design and program their own apps
and generate profits, which added about 300,000 jobs to the U.S. economy. They also
provided app developers with the tools and distribution they need to bring their best
ideas to tens of millions of its customers worldwide.
Sharing their customers with developing their products build a strong and long
relationship between them, and that s an long term adaptive to the future market where
the customers are more involved and they value their services over the prices.

Rorschach Interpretive Procedure
The interpretive procedure, the 4 s, provides a significant structure to organize the key
findings of the Rorschach inkblot assessment by modifying and adjusting the
interpretations based on idiographic factors. This procedure is categorized into four
steps: Scan, Sift, Synthesize, and Summarize. The first step is a brief preemptive step
where the assessor scans over the scores in order to look for any extreme scores to give
them a better idea of what they might find in the following steps. Sifting is the next step
where the clinician carefully goes through all of the results, noting the standard score for
each variable, section by section. The purpose of shifting is to formulate a preliminary

Black Mirror, By Suzanne Collins, And Harrison Bergeron

Repent, Harlequin! said the Ticktockman by Harlan Ellison, Hunger Games by Suzanne

Can Critical Regionalism Counteract The Impact Of...
Can Critical Regionalism counteract the impact of Globalisation on our cities?
In the era of constant networking and relaying of information, the world has become a
much smaller place. The shrinking world has somewhat become a familiar spectacle of
identical fads and lifestyles. At least in the developed countries, globalisation has given
birth to homogenous consumer culture. Demonstrated not only by the expansion of multi
national cooperations such as Apple and Starbucks but also by the indistinct architecture.
It is a common sighting in urban cities today to see the identical steel, concrete and glass
structures. This occurrence might be innate due to the easy exportation of concepts and
architects, however not obligatory. Whilst advancing towards a modern society,
architects have adapted this universal style of architecture that fails to represent the
unique topography of different cities. Architects have the choice to either repeat the same
building everywhere or to push ourselves forward, to create an encounter between
ourselves and the local culture (Koolhaas, 2012). If the notion of Critical Regionalism
were to be practiced by architects through the integration of the local culture with modern
techniques, it could potentially return the missing identities of these cities.
Critical Regionalism was devised during the early 20th century, as an attempt to reject the
monotony developed by the International Style and the purposeless ornamentation

Ministry Burnout
A Description and Scope of the Issue of Ministry Burnout
The Scope of the Issue of Burnout Ministry burnout is a problem for the minister who is
burned out, the family of the minister, and the churches they serve. Adding to the
problem is, There are still many in the churches who refuse to recognize that there is a
problem with what is today called clergy burnout (Randall, 2013, p. 334). When a church
will not acknowledge there is a potential problem, the minister will be left to deal with the
shame and pain of suffering burnout. Burnout is a psychological condition that results
from chronic stress related to working with people (Milner, 2007, p. 9). The statistics
are alarming. Christian Ministers are leaving the ministry in droves. According to
statistics gathered by J.R. Briggs, 1,500 pastors leave the ministry for good each
month because of burnout or conflict in the church they serve (cited in Briggs, 2014).
According to the data gathered by Brigg (2014), that means that over 18,000 pastors
leave the ministry each year because of burnout and conflict. Briggs (2014) also found
that 80 percent of pastors and 84 percent of pastors spouses are discouraged in their
roles. Statistics further reveal that for every 20 pastors who go into ministry, only one
retires from ministry (cited in Briggs, 2014). To further expose ... Show more content on

The person who burns out is unable to deal successfully with the chronic emotional
stress of the job, and this failure to cope can be manifested in a number of ways,

church to church in hopes a new beginning, when on truth, they are carrying their old

Lab Report Titration
Abstract: In this experiment, our team analyzed an unknown acid and a sample of
vinegar solution by the process of titration using a 0.1 M sodium hydroxide solution as
the titrant, as this solution is a strong base. In addition, our team members used
phenolphthalein as indicator in the reaction.
Introduction: First of all, for this experiment our team made use of several glassware,
such as a buret, three 250 mL erlenmeyer flask, and a 10 mL flask. Additional, we also
used a buret clamp, a plastic bottle with stopper, sodium hydroxide in form of pellets,
potassium hydrogen phthalate (KHP), phenolphthalein as indicator, unknown acid and
vinegar. The process of titration involves measuring the exact volume of the known
concertation (which in this case is sodium hydroxide) that is required to react with a
measured volume of an unknown concertation. Our team used sodium hydroxide, since
it is a common solution used in titration analysis of samples containing a solute acid.
Nevertheless, sodium hydroxide must be used quickly, since this solution can react with
carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and its concentration will change with the time. In
order to not add an excess of titrant than the necessary for the reaction, our team made
use of phenolphthalein as indicator. This indicator in particular changes to a pale pink
color from basic pH. On the other hand, we also titrated a sample of vinegar with the
same sodium hydroxide solution, since vinegar is a dilute solution of acetic
The Treaty Of Versailles Was A Peace Treaty
Adolf Hitler was born on April 20, 1889 in Austria. Hitler was a German politician and
the leader of the Nazi Party. Adolf Hitler was a decorated veteran from World War I. The
Treaty of Versailles directly affected the German people and Hitler. The Treaty of
Versailles was a peace treaty set in place at the end of World War I
to end the war. One of
the most crucial and contentious problems with this treaty was it required that the
country of Germanyto disarm, take guilt and pay apologies to the other countries.
The treaty of Versailles did not run well for Hitler and when he became chancellor in
1933. His Nazi Party became the largest elected party in Germany. After becoming
chancellor, Hitler worked to rebuild their economy and wanted better living space for
the people of Germany. He achieved better living space by killing all Jews. In 1934
President Von Hindenburg of Germany died and Hitler took power of the presidency.
(www.ushmm.org) The Nazi Party also had summer camps spread across the country and
even the United States to help spread the Nazi word and their views. The summer camp
helped promote the new and rising Germany and the Nazi party. He put the unemployed
to work in public programs, rebuilt the army and sent Jews, communists and others to
concentration camps. (time.com)
Adolf Hitler did not only use traditional weapons such as gases, guns or planes but he
also used non traditional weapons such as propaganda, his manipulation of words and his

Medical vs Military death tolls in the Civil War
Killing. A horrible thing, indeed. But, widely misinterpreted. To most people, the first
thing to come to mind would be a person making someone else die. This isn t necessarily
true. Killing is just causing death. For example, Ebola isn t a person, yet it made people
die. So did Dysentery, a disease in the Civil War that was nicknamed Minister of death .
I m sure you can guess why. So, what did kill more people in the Civil War? The
numbers show that out of all the deaths, more happened off the battlefield than on it,
specifically the diseases and medical practices.
The Union enlisted 2,893,304 soldiers.
What Is Unrestricted Moral Relativism
In this essay I will argue that unrestricted moral relativism is incorrect because of the
objection that our moral judgments is not just based on our culture or history. I believe
that our moral judgments are based on who we choose to be. If this theory was true.
This means that you are stuck with cultural morals for the rest of our lives. Yet a lot of
people move to different places with different cultures. They start to adopt to new
morals, and new way of thinking of what is right or wrong.
Moral relativism states that our moral judgments are based on our culture. There are no
standpoint that is uniquely privileged over all others. The main idea about this theory is
that different cultures have different moral values, so there are no universal
A Very Brief Look at Ireland
An old myth claims that St.Patrick used his to scare all the snakes into sea. Therefore,
there are no snakes in Ireland. Ireland gained it s independence from Great Britain in
1937. The head of Ireland is still under Britain s command. Before Ireland became a
country, Ireland was covered in ice and snow, during the the Last Glacial Maximum. The
Last Glacial Maximum is the era when ice covered northern Europe, Asia, and America,
which was about 20,000 years ago. Irelandis the sixth richest country in the world, which
is surprising because it is mostly farm land.
Around 600 and 800 B.C. Celtic tribes began to settle on Ireland. Around the 12th
century Britain took the Irish s independence. During the potato famine, in the 1840s,
farmers dug up potatoes then a day after the potatoes became slimy, blackish, mass of
rottenness . About 1 1/4 million Irish left their homes. They took ships Canada and
America hoping for a better life.
On 1916, Easter Monday, Ireland started a Rebellion. The IRA , Irish Republican Army,
fought Britain for five years to win independence for 26 southern counties. The other 6
counties are still under Britain s control. This lead to the Troubles in the 1960 s which
were acts of violence on the United Kingdom Army. The United Kingdom, United
States, and Ireland was a part of a process that helped traders and sellers which is know
as The Good Friday Agreement in 1988, in Northern Ireland. In 1990, Mary Robinson
changed Ireland s history by
Essay On Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension
Intracranial hypertension is the term that is mostly used for all forms of high intracranial
pressure. There is one form of intracranial pressure that in the 1890 s a German physician
Heinrich Quincke named pseudotumor cerebri which describes a neurological disorder
that has all the symptoms of a brain tumor but without the presence of an actual brain
tumor. This condition is now known as idiopathic intracranial hypertension. Idiopathic
intracranial hypertension is a condition that occurs when the pressure inside the skull
increases for no obvious reason. It seems to occur out of nowhere and without warning
which is where we get the word idiopathic which means relating to or denoting any
disease or condition that arises spontaneously or for which the cause is unknown.

intracranial hypertension is the nervous system including the brain and cerebral spinal

include carbonic anhydrase inhibitors or diuretics. Carbonic anhydrase inhibitors such
as acetazolamide will suppress the production of the carbon anhydrase enzyme which
will intern decrease the production of cerebral spinal fluid which will also lower
pressure in the skull. Diuretics will increase urine production to help get rid of excess

The Rotten Damage Of Food Waste
The Rotten Damage of Food Waste
Growing up, children were most likely told to always finish all the food on their plates
because somewhere else in the world, another child was starving. Most kids never
really understand how serious the matter actually is and it is expected for adults to
know better but here we are in 2016 where roughly one third of food produced is wasted
every year. The problem with this is that about 21,000 people die per day from starvation,
but where is that food they need to live? It s rotting in the fridge, it s being used for
contests to see who can eat the fastest, or it s simply been thrown away because the sun
has gone down and people refuse to buy it the following day if it s not new. What s even
more depressing is that most starvation deaths are of children.
The first problem here is poverty. How can someone work when they re so hungry and
sick? How can someone get a job they re too sick to work? It s bad enough that a child
would die of starvation, but if the father or mother dies of starvation, then the whole
family could die too due to the fact that there s no one to go to work. Not many people
step up to help the hungry child because they have their own family to think about. This
isn t to say that no one notices starving countries because it s more than likely that
everyone has seen the commercials on tv of children in different countries running
around while the narrator explains how anyone can help by simply donating maybe five
dollars.
Acetylferrocene Essay
Aim The objective of this experiment was to separate a mixture of two compounds
(ferrocene and acetylferrocene) using adsorption column chromatography. Introduction
Adsorption column chromatography is a technique that uses a solid stationary phase
which is fixed and a liquid mobile phase that moves slowly through the packed column.
This technique uses the property of polarity as the compounds have a greater affinity
towards the respective phases (either stationary or mobile) which leads the compounds
moving at different rates through the packed column and separating from one another.
The stationary phase is fixed in the column and it contains the adsorbent which attracts
the more polar compound in this experiment at least. On the other... Show more content

Whereas, hexane is non polar because it contains only single bonds of hydrogen and
carbon and the difference between the electronegativity of carbon and hydrogen is
very small. Ferrocene is less polar than acetylferrocene and hexane is less polar than
ethyl acetate so using the property of like attracts like ferrocene will have a greater
affinity to hexane and acetylferrocene will have a greater affinity to ethyl acetate. Thus,
ferrocene had to be eluted with hexane as it would bind to it and flow out and
acetylferrocene had to be eluted with ethyl acetate as it would bind more to ethyl
acetate than the adsorbent (silica) and flow out later. Table of Chemicals

The age of technology has changed communication in both our personal and
professional lives with the advent of social media. Facebook, Linkedin, Twitter, and
others have global connections to the external world. The readiness of I pads, laptops

Analysis Of Perseverance By Maya Angelou
Perseverance You may encounter many defeats, but you must not be defeated. In fact,
it may be necessary to encounter the defeats, so you know who you are, what you can
rise from, how you can still come out of it (Maya Angelou). In all the nonfiction books
read in class perseverance is the main concept in each story. The dictionary defines
perseverance as continued effort to do or achieve something despite difficulties, failure,
or opposition : the action or condition or an instance of persevering . In terms of usage,
perseverance is a noun. Common synonyms for perseverance include persistence and
steadfastness . The antonyms of perseverance is giving up and not trying. This is

extent as this film was only the second set of Superman films .Superman (poster 2) also
known as Clark Kent still represents the comical and original idea of superman with the
bright red and blue hues on the costume, typical superhero image. More over the image
of superman consisting of mostly good is still present and represented ... Show more

The poster shows a hint of character devepoment from the all good clichГ©d superman
to a better rounded character. This shown by the use of destroyed city6 background and
as well as the ray of sunlight behind superman and the use of a low angle shot that
shows the strength of a character. The usual superman saves the city all by himself
notion is abolished in the poster with the use of fighter jets in the background
emphasising san event that is somewhat a national emergency in which the man steel
requires assistance. However poster 3 only show the fact that man of steel might have
become faster ( use of blurred buildings) and is experiencing some type off physical
strain. Which in this case aslo reflects on character development but other than that , the
extent in which poster three reflects on the evolution of Superman is limited.
In terms of filmic technology posters one and two show a limited amount limited
comic technology because of the comical look to the filmic posters. the costume which
superman wears in the second poster is mainly made of ordinary cloth which reiterates
simplicity .where as in the filmic posters for Man of steel show a lot of development in
filmic technology as the poster(s) have more detail. And the man of steel s costume
seems of be made out a micro fibre , latex like material that fits him perfectly
The Buyer Of The Carter Electronics Inc.
I am writing in response to represent you, the buyer of the Carter Electronics Inc. to
review the company s 2015 financial statements and evaluate the appropriateness of
the treatments used in Carter s 2015 income statements in order to determine the
acquisition price. I have identified the users who may be interested in reviewing my
report and their objectives: Joe O Brien The objective of Joe O Brien is to minimize
the cost of buying Carter Electronics Inc. by spotting the inappropriateness in the
income statements through decrease of the net income or increase in the net loss. Paul
Carter (the original owner of Carter) The objective of Paul Carter is to maximize the
selling price through increase of net income or decrease in net loss in response to the
treatment of various issues. There might be other users included customers or future
investors and CRA whose needs for performance measurement and evaluation of
financial statements. In addition, there is a conflict of interests between Mr. O Brien
and Mr. Carter on the acquisition price of Carter Electronics Inc. Mr. O Brien will be
the primary user for my report. Followings are all of the constraints that will affect my
recommendation to you: Since Carter Electronics Inc. continues to expand, it is likely
that the company may go public in the newly future. As a result, I would recommend that
the company should consider using IFRS and comply under GAAP for their financial
statements. The formula of
An Essay About Siem Reap
Most visitors to Siem Reap are there to visit the famed Temples of Angkor and who can
blame them? These spectacular ruins from the 9 14th centuries are an adventurer s
dream. Located just 7km from the entrance gate, Siem Reap has become a popular stop
on the tourist trail of Asia. Once a sleepy town full of farms and small shops, the increase
in tourists over the past 15 years has brought an international feel to the town. Modern
hotels, internet cafes, and international restaurants are a welcome treat after a day spent
exploring the temples in the Cambodian heat. Yet, Siem Reapretains its small town charm
and visitors who take the time to explore the town and its surroundings are rewarded with
a deeper insight in to Cambodian culture and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Ethical Dilemma Of Pornography
Benchmark Ethical Dilemmas
Lindsay Rohland (2015) defined an ethical dilemma as, a complicated situation in which
one must make a difficult choice or decision in the face of conflicting morals. The
choice between right or wrong may seem a challenging but a person s morals are
typically influenced by religion. Christianity has answers for every dilemma a person
could be facing. The ethical dilemma of pornography will be analyzed by the Christian
worldview, and compared to the perspective of the pantheistic worldview.
Ethical Dilemma
Pornography is an ethical dilemma that affects men and women from all walks of life.
In TJ s case, porn is photographs or videos that depict of erotic subjects with the
intension to titillate the audience (Pornography, 2017). Making an ethical decision is
difficult for TJ because of his options: continue to practice his freedom rights to
privately watch and giving up the pleasure he receives from watching porn. Continuing
will put himself at risk but by quitting he will no longer be supporting the pornography
business. If TJ is a Christian, he could look to the core beliefs to help him decide.
Core Beliefs
The Christian worldview is enforced by the Bible, which does not mention pornography
because videography had yet to exist. However, the Bible does mention various forms of
sin, prohibited sex and acts of the mind that would cause a person s sexual immortality.
Galatians 5 (NIV) states, 19 The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality,
impurity and debauchery... 21orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those
who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. Based off scripture, humanity
should not partake activities such as fornication, incest, adultery, orgies, and rape; all
popular pornographic storylines. Watching pornographic videos could cause lust and
sinful thoughts in. Lust is secular and will separate a person from God (1 John 2:26,
NIV). Knowing this may influence a Christian to not indulge on pornography and
actively seek counsel.
Resolution
A specific problem may not be clearly stated word for word in the Bible, but Jesus is and
always will be the answer, according to the Christian worldview. The ethical dilemma of
pornography is caused

ABS Anti lock braking system (ABS) is an automobile safety system, that allows the
wheels on a motor vehicle to maintain tractive contact with the road surface according to
driver inputs while braking. Preventing the wheels from locking up (ceasing rotation) and
avoiding uncontrolled skidding, it is an automated system that uses the principles of
threshold braking and cadence braking which were practiced by skillful drivers with
previous generation braking systems. It does this at a much faster rate and with better
control than a driver could manage.
ABS generally offers improved vehicle control and also decreases stopping distances on
dry and slippery surfaces for many drivers, however, on loose surfaces like gravel or
snow covered pavement, ABS can significantly increase braking distance, although still
improving vehicle control.

Truth Burial In Beowulf
In the year 1939 in the community of Sutton Hoo near Suffolk, England a discovery of
massive proportion took place. The magnitude of this archeological find was
described in a local news article, For the first thousand years of the Christian era the
little island of Britain was overrun by hordes of men who rose up out of the sea. In the
Fifth Century came the Angles, from somewhere on the bleak coast of the Baltic. Ships
brought them, and when their kings died they were buried in ships with their bows
pointing toward the sea. This discovery answered many of the questions left by the
story Beowulf, a document once cast of as a transcribed lore. Modern day archeological
discoveries prove that Beowulf is a story founded in truth.
That truth ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example in Beowulf there is described a helmet that Hrothgar bestows on to
Beowulf. To fight. Hrothgar s helmet would defend him; That ancient, shinning
treasure, encircled With hard rolled metal, set there by some smith s Long dead hand
(Beowulf 1448 1451) This description of the helmet brings forth images of a similar
one found on the burial ship of Sutton Hoo as described by the British Museum, The
helmet was made of iron and probably weighed about 2.5kg The metal was polished
and was decorated with pictures of warriors and powerful animals. Another example of
the similarities between objects from Sutton Hoo and Beowulf is a sword Hrothgar s
courtier Lent him a famous weapon, a fine, Hilted old sword named Hrunting; it had
an iron blade, etched and shining (Beowulf 1455 1458). This description is almost
identical to the description of the sword found at Sutton Hoo as described the
University of Chicago, The hilt of the sword has a beautiful gold and cloisonnГ©
garnet pommel and gold guards. The iron blade is heavily corroded but was pattern
welded, made from eight bundles of thin iron rods hammered together to form a pattern
of parallel or herringbone lines in the metal. To this core, a cutting edge of carbon steel
then was forged. The images produced by the descriptions of actual artifacts and the
descriptions of objects from Beowulf are
Mary Rowlandson Reflection
Reading this book, made me realize that life in the 1600 s was far different than what
we know now. People were more vulgar and much more violent than how we are today.
Mrs. Mary Rowlandson, however was very religious and relied on God no matter what
she went through. She struggled with what she had to eat while being with them in
captivity. She also saw the difference in her cultureand their culture. While reading the
book, I noticed Mrs. Rowlandson took her bible with her everywhere and that she made
references to bible verses to help her build strength.
Mary Rowlandson relied on her faith even while she was being captured by the Indians
/ Native Americans and treated as a possession. There was a major cultural difference
between Rowlandson and the Indians. Rowlandson was not as accepting of their
culture due to the fact that they did not share the same Puritan values as her. She
always kept God with her even when she lost her daughter and when she was separated
from her husband. Although she kept her faith in God, she still questioned why she
was captured, and why she wasn t killed along with her family. She begged God every
day for mercy and strength to continue travel each day. When the Indians came and
burned down her town and killed people she knew, and forced their way into homes,
Rowlandson continued to ask God for answers on what to do. Being that Rowlandson
was a profound puritan, witnessing the way the Indians sang and danced made her
compare them to creatures of hell. Oh, the roaring, and the singing, and dancing, and
yelling of those black creatures in the night, which made the place a lively
resemblance of hell. (Rowlandson 10) She described the Indians as barbarous creatures
and black creatures. She believed that the Indians were not believers of God which
impacted the way they treated her and the other captives as people. Although she still
felt a sense of hatred towards them for what they did to her, she couldn t help to feel
grateful towards them when they gave her food, or when they gave her a warm place t
sleep. She felt grateful towards them because when the other Indians treated her badly
there were others who gave her food when she wasn t fed and gave her animal skin to
sleep on

  • 2. The Juxtaposition Of Private Witt And First Sgt. Welsch The juxtaposition of Private Witt and First Sgt. Welsch in The Thin Red Line by Terrence Malick is used to illustrate the two ways that a man can view the world, in the most basic sense. John Cottingham also discusses these two ways in his book Philosophy of Religion. Cottingham describes the two ways as the atheist, who cannot see past the disorganized concatenation of contingent episodes in his experiences, and fails to find transcendent meaning in his experienceof nature (Cottingham 61). This describes Welsch s worldview. He has experienced war and from that experience he has concluded that there is no vertical plane that can draw him up. There is only the darkness here and now, all we can do is try to survive as long as we can. However, there is another way of seeing things, the way of the theist, or Private Witt. According to Cottingham, the theist not only can, but must have a sense of joy, reverence, and thankfulness for the experiences we have, because the theist can see the beauty, or as Witt would say, the glory, that shines through all things. The theist has a transfigured experience of reality. A theist encounters God in a profound way through his experience of nature, art, literature, and the like. The two views are strikingly different, and Mallick uses Witt and Welsch s interactions, as well as nearly every other moment in the film, to illustrate the two manner of seeing the world. In their first interaction, Welsch spells out his beliefs about self
  • 3. Reader Response For The Kite Runner Reader Response for The Kite Runner Section 1 Writing Style: Khaled Hosseini, author of The Kite Runner, is most definitely different than other authors. He uses strong, detailed words that may be difficult, at some points, to understand. His use of vocabulary is rather challenging for me. The more use of challenging vocabulary, in my opinion, makes the book even more interesting. Now, I m not a big fan of reading, but after reading this book, I had found an interest in reading more challenging books like The Kite Runner. Not knowing a word can change the whole scene by finding out what it actually means. Now, Khaled uses a wide variety of figurative language to grab your attention. Khaled Hosseiniuses mainly similes, metaphors,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Children aren t coloring books, you don t get to fill them with your favorite colors. (Hosseini 21). Now, Khaled uses tone to describe what is happening in the scene. His eyes flicked to me. I wanted to laugh for some reason. Or scream. I brought the ball of my hand to my mouth and bit on it. Baba laughed softly through his nose. (Hosseini 162). In this moment, Amir is very excited with Baba because he is calling the general about Soraya. Amir has a little thing for Soraya, by which later in the novel, she becomes his wife. The text in this novel was pretty straightforward, you just have to identify the figurative language that the author uses, because he uses a lot of it to make the book more challenging. He also uses a lot of dialogue. My personal favorite is a passage from the end of the novel. It was only a smile, nothing more. It didn t make everything alright. It didn t make anything all right. Only a smile. A tiny thing. A leaf in the woods, shaking in the wake of a startled bird s flight. But I ll take it. With open arms. Because when spring comes, it melts the snow one flake at a time, and maybe I just witnessed the first flake melting (Hosseini 371). The reason why this is my favorite passage is because, when Hassan and Amir were kids, Hassan would run the kite for Amir, and during this passage, Amir s nephew (Hassan s son)

An investigation that provides insight into the obstacles/challenges encountered by African American dancers with regards to being successful in the world of dance and key figures that have overcome this struggle. There are many major obstacle facing African American dancers that contribute to racial segregation in the dance world. For instance flesh coloured shoes with pink ribbons are the traditional foot wear for ballet which dates back the 1820 s. Many African American dancers have questioned major dance wear companies who use this tradition as an excuse not to provide all the different skin tone dance wear. It is not only the dance wear companies refusing to adapt to modern societies idea of equality but other white dancers and companies as well. Mathur Over 25 years, the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) has collected more than 100 million bits of data and images of astronomical objects and space phenomena. These have been maintained in the Barbara A. Mikulski Archive for Space Telescope (MAST), but the collection was not easily accessed or searched. Researchers at the Space Telescope Science Institute and the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland have now made these available in a new database called the Hubble Space Catalog. Apple took advantage of The Great Recession (2007 2009) after many of its competitors had bankrupt or suffered from huge losses, causing an excessive of the amount of the unsold components that the manufacturers had produce. They could not find a market that can buy them, Apple sees that as an opportunity to buy those components, such as memory chips and LCDs, at lower prices and in most the time at cost, and use it as a competitive advantage in its manufacturing. Apple s management had predicted its margins to be shrieked for the next 5 years; as a cause of that recession that reshaped the market. The management took a fast and smart decision and they predict the market after they analyzed it and found out that they can make better future by using the low prices of the parts, rather than downsizing. Apple had adapted to the market change by developing the app revolution, where developers (most of them are apple s customers) can design and program their own apps and generate profits, which added about 300,000 jobs to the U.S. economy. They also provided app developers with the tools and distribution they need to bring their best ideas to tens of millions of its customers worldwide. • 11. Can Critical Regionalism Counteract The Impact Of... Can Critical Regionalism counteract the impact of Globalisation on our cities? In the era of constant networking and relaying of information, the world has become a much smaller place. The shrinking world has somewhat become a familiar spectacle of identical fads and lifestyles. At least in the developed countries, globalisation has given birth to homogenous consumer culture. Demonstrated not only by the expansion of multi national cooperations such as Apple and Starbucks but also by the indistinct architecture. It is a common sighting in urban cities today to see the identical steel, concrete and glass structures. This occurrence might be innate due to the easy exportation of concepts and architects, however not obligatory. Whilst advancing towards a modern society, architects have adapted this universal style of architecture that fails to represent the unique topography of different cities. Architects have the choice to either repeat the same building everywhere or to push ourselves forward, to create an encounter between ourselves and the local culture (Koolhaas, 2012). If the notion of Critical Regionalism were to be practiced by architects through the integration of the local culture with modern techniques, it could potentially return the missing identities of these cities. Critical Regionalism was devised during the early 20th century, as an attempt to reject the monotony developed by the International Style and the purposeless ornamentation utilised by
  • 12. Ministry Burnout A Description and Scope of the Issue of Ministry Burnout The Scope of the Issue of Burnout Ministry burnout is a problem for the minister who is burned out, the family of the minister, and the churches they serve. Adding to the problem is, There are still many in the churches who refuse to recognize that there is a problem with what is today called clergy burnout (Randall, 2013, p. 334). When a church will not acknowledge there is a potential problem, the minister will be left to deal with the shame and pain of suffering burnout. Burnout is a psychological condition that results from chronic stress related to working with people (Milner, 2007, p. 9). The statistics are alarming. Christian Ministers are leaving the ministry in droves. According to statistics gathered by J.R. Briggs, 1,500 pastors leave the ministry for good each month because of burnout or conflict in the church they serve (cited in Briggs, 2014). According to the data gathered by Brigg (2014), that means that over 18,000 pastors leave the ministry each year because of burnout and conflict. Briggs (2014) also found that 80 percent of pastors and 84 percent of pastors spouses are discouraged in their roles. • 13. Lab Report Titration Abstract: In this experiment, our team analyzed an unknown acid and a sample of vinegar solution by the process of titration using a 0.1 M sodium hydroxide solution as the titrant, as this solution is a strong base. In addition, our team members used phenolphthalein as indicator in the reaction. Introduction: First of all, for this experiment our team made use of several glassware, such as a buret, three 250 mL erlenmeyer flask, and a 10 mL flask. Additional, we also used a buret clamp, a plastic bottle with stopper, sodium hydroxide in form of pellets, potassium hydrogen phthalate (KHP), phenolphthalein as indicator, unknown acid and vinegar. The process of titration involves measuring the exact volume of the known concertation (which in this case is sodium hydroxide) that is required to react with a measured volume of an unknown concertation. Our team used sodium hydroxide, since it is a common solution used in titration analysis of samples containing a solute acid. Nevertheless, sodium hydroxide must be used quickly, since this solution can react with carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and its concentration will change with the time. In order to not add an excess of titrant than the necessary for the reaction, our team made use of phenolphthalein as indicator. This indicator in particular changes to a pale pink color from basic pH. On the other hand, we also titrated a sample of vinegar with the same sodium hydroxide solution, since vinegar is a dilute solution of acetic

  • 16. What Is Unrestricted Moral Relativism In this essay I will argue that unrestricted moral relativism is incorrect because of the objection that our moral judgments is not just based on our culture or history. I believe that our moral judgments are based on who we choose to be. If this theory was true. This means that you are stuck with cultural morals for the rest of our lives. Yet a lot of people move to different places with different cultures. They start to adopt to new morals, and new way of thinking of what is right or wrong. Moral relativism states that our moral judgments are based on our culture. There are no standpoint that is uniquely privileged over all others. The main idea about this theory is that different cultures have different moral values, so there are no universal

Ireland gained it s independence from Great Britain in 1937. The head of Ireland is still under Britain s command. Before Ireland became a country, Ireland was covered in ice and snow, during the the Last Glacial Maximum. The Last Glacial Maximum is the era when ice covered northern Europe, Asia, and America, which was about 20,000 years ago. Carbonic anhydrase inhibitors such as acetazolamide will suppress the production of the carbon anhydrase enzyme which will intern decrease the production of cerebral spinal fluid which will also lower pressure in the skull. Diuretics will increase urine production to help get rid of excess salt and water and may help in lower intracranial pressure. Doctors may try surgery if medication is not
  • 19. The Rotten Damage Of Food Waste The Rotten Damage of Food Waste Growing up, children were most likely told to always finish all the food on their plates because somewhere else in the world, another child was starving. Most kids never really understand how serious the matter actually is and it is expected for adults to know better but here we are in 2016 where roughly one third of food produced is wasted every year. The problem with this is that about 21,000 people die per day from starvation, but where is that food they need to live? It s rotting in the fridge, it s being used for contests to see who can eat the fastest, or it s simply been thrown away because the sun has gone down and people refuse to buy it the following day if it s not new. What s even more depressing is that most starvation deaths are of children. The first problem here is poverty. How can someone work when they re so hungry and sick? How can someone get a job they re too sick to work? It s bad enough that a child would die of starvation, but if the father or mother dies of starvation, then the whole family could die too due to the fact that there s no one to go to work. Not many people step up to help the hungry child because they have their own family to think about. This isn t to say that no one notices starving countries because it s more than likely that everyone has seen the commercials on tv of children in different countries running around while the narrator explains how anyone can help by simply donating maybe five dollars.

Introduction Adsorption column chromatography is a technique that uses a solid stationary phase which is fixed and a liquid mobile phase that moves slowly through the packed column. This technique uses the property of polarity as the compounds have a greater affinity towards the respective phases (either stationary or mobile) which leads the compounds moving at different rates through the packed column and separating from one another. The stationary phase is fixed in the column and it contains the adsorbent which attracts the more polar compound in this experiment at least. On the other... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Whereas, hexane is non polar because it contains only single bonds of hydrogen and carbon and the difference between the electronegativity of carbon and hydrogen is very small. Thus, ferrocene had to be eluted with hexane as it would bind to it and flow out and acetylferrocene had to be eluted with ethyl acetate as it would bind more to ethyl acetate than the adsorbent (silica) and flow out later. • 23. Evolution Of Superman Film The posters for each superman film reflect the evolution of superman and filmic technology. Poster three (man of steel) is most effective for advertising superhero films whereas poster two ( superman 1978) represents the idea of superman and this will be argued with close reference to the respective Supermanfilmic posters . The posters for Superman 1978 reflects the evolution of the Superman films to a limited extent as this film was only the second set of Superman films .Superman (poster 2) also known as Clark Kent still represents the comical and original idea of superman with the bright red and blue hues on the costume, typical superhero image. More over the image of superman consisting of mostly good is still present and represented ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The poster shows a hint of character devepoment from the all good clichГ©d superman to a better rounded character. This shown by the use of destroyed city6 background and as well as the ray of sunlight behind superman and the use of a low angle shot that shows the strength of a character. The usual superman saves the city all by himself notion is abolished in the poster with the use of fighter jets in the background emphasising san event that is somewhat a national emergency in which the man steel requires assistance. However poster 3 only show the fact that man of steel might have become faster ( use of blurred buildings) and is experiencing some type off physical strain. Which in this case aslo reflects on character development but other than that , the extent in which poster three reflects on the evolution of Superman is limited. In terms of filmic technology posters one and two show a limited amount limited comic technology because of the comical look to the filmic posters. the costume which superman wears in the second poster is mainly made of ordinary cloth which reiterates simplicity .where as in the filmic posters for Man of steel show a lot of development in filmic technology as the poster(s) have more detail. And the man of steel s costume seems of be made out a micro fibre , latex like material that fits him perfectly

  • 26. Ethical Dilemma Of Pornography Benchmark Ethical Dilemmas Lindsay Rohland (2015) defined an ethical dilemma as, a complicated situation in which one must make a difficult choice or decision in the face of conflicting morals. The choice between right or wrong may seem a challenging but a person s morals are typically influenced by religion. Christianity has answers for every dilemma a person could be facing. The ethical dilemma of pornography will be analyzed by the Christian worldview, and compared to the perspective of the pantheistic worldview. Ethical Dilemma Pornography is an ethical dilemma that affects men and women from all walks of life. In TJ s case, porn is photographs or videos that depict of erotic subjects with the intension to titillate the audience (Pornography, 2017). Making an ethical decision is difficult for TJ because of his options: continue to practice his freedom rights to privately watch and giving up the pleasure he receives from watching porn. Continuing will put himself at risk but by quitting he will no longer be supporting the pornography business. If TJ is a Christian, he could look to the core beliefs to help him decide. Core Beliefs The Christian worldview is enforced by the Bible, which does not mention pornography because videography had yet to exist. However, the Bible does mention various forms of sin, prohibited sex and acts of the mind that would cause a person s sexual immortality. Galatians 5 (NIV) states, 19 The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery... 21orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. Based off scripture, humanity should not partake activities such as fornication, incest, adultery, orgies, and rape; all popular pornographic storylines. Watching pornographic videos could cause lust and sinful thoughts in. Lust is secular and will separate a person from God (1 John 2:26, NIV). Knowing this may influence a Christian to not indulge on pornography and actively seek counsel. Resolution A specific problem may not be clearly stated word for word in the Bible, but Jesus is and always will be the answer, according to the Christian worldview. The ethical dilemma of pornography is caused

Preventing the wheels from locking up (ceasing rotation) and avoiding uncontrolled skidding, it is an automated system that uses the principles of threshold braking and cadence braking which were practiced by skillful drivers with previous generation braking systems. It does this at a much faster rate and with better control than a driver could manage. • 28. Truth Burial In Beowulf In the year 1939 in the community of Sutton Hoo near Suffolk, England a discovery of massive proportion took place. The magnitude of this archeological find was described in a local news article, For the first thousand years of the Christian era the little island of Britain was overrun by hordes of men who rose up out of the sea. In the Fifth Century came the Angles, from somewhere on the bleak coast of the Baltic. Ships brought them, and when their kings died they were buried in ships with their bows pointing toward the sea. This discovery answered many of the questions left by the story Beowulf, a document once cast of as a transcribed lore. Modern day archeological discoveries prove that Beowulf is a story founded in truth. That truth ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example in Beowulf there is described a helmet that Hrothgar bestows on to Beowulf. To fight. Hrothgar s helmet would defend him; That ancient, shinning treasure, encircled With hard rolled metal, set there by some smith s Long dead hand (Beowulf 1448 1451) This description of the helmet brings forth images of a similar one found on the burial ship of Sutton Hoo as described by the British Museum, The helmet was made of iron and probably weighed about 2.5kg The metal was polished and was decorated with pictures of warriors and powerful animals. Another example of the similarities between objects from Sutton Hoo and Beowulf is a sword Hrothgar s courtier Lent him a famous weapon, a fine, Hilted old sword named Hrunting; it had an iron blade, etched and shining (Beowulf 1455 1458). This description is almost identical to the description of the sword found at Sutton Hoo as described the University of Chicago, The hilt of the sword has a beautiful gold and cloisonnГ© garnet pommel and gold guards. The iron blade is heavily corroded but was pattern welded, made from eight bundles of thin iron rods hammered together to form a pattern of parallel or herringbone lines in the metal. To this core, a cutting edge of carbon steel then was forged. The images produced by the descriptions of actual artifacts and the descriptions of objects from Beowulf are
  • 29. Mary Rowlandson Reflection Reading this book, made me realize that life in the 1600 s was far different than what we know now. People were more vulgar and much more violent than how we are today. Mrs. Mary Rowlandson, however was very religious and relied on God no matter what she went through. She struggled with what she had to eat while being with them in captivity. She also saw the difference in her cultureand their culture. While reading the book, I noticed Mrs. Rowlandson took her bible with her everywhere and that she made references to bible verses to help her build strength. Mary Rowlandson relied on her faith even while she was being captured by the Indians / Native Americans and treated as a possession. There was a major cultural difference between Rowlandson and the Indians. Rowlandson was not as accepting of their culture due to the fact that they did not share the same Puritan values as her. She always kept God with her even when she lost her daughter and when she was separated from her husband. Although she kept her faith in God, she still questioned why she was captured, and why she wasn t killed along with her family. She begged God every day for mercy and strength to continue travel each day. When the Indians came and burned down her town and killed people she knew, and forced their way into homes, Rowlandson continued to ask God for answers on what to do. Being that Rowlandson was a profound puritan, witnessing the way the Indians sang and danced made her compare them to creatures of hell. Oh, the roaring, and the singing, and dancing, and yelling of those black creatures in the night, which made the place a lively resemblance of hell. (Rowlandson 10) She described the Indians as barbarous creatures and black creatures. She believed that the Indians were not believers of God which impacted the way they treated her and the other captives as people. Although she still felt a sense of hatred towards them for what they did to her, she couldn t help to feel grateful towards them when they gave her food, or when they gave her a warm place t sleep. She felt grateful towards them because when the other Indians treated her badly there were others who gave her food when she wasn t fed and gave her animal skin to sleep on
