I chose to travel to the Museum of Modern Art for this assignment. Once I was
there, I wasn t sure which artwork I wanted to focus my analysis on. At first I was
overwhelmed by the sheer enormity of the museum (I have never been), but after a
little while I gained my bearings and began to explore for 20th century art. After
viewing many of the paintings that we discussed in depth in class and many that we
did not, I decided to write my analysis on Street Light, by Giacomo Balla. I chose this
paintingbecause the colors and aspects of it intrigue me. I am also familiar with it,
which can help aid me in my analysis. I was extremely interested when we discussed
Futurismin class, and I was happy that I could find something in the Museum of
Modern Artthat had to do with that particular movement, especially a painting that
we touched upon. The painting itself was much larger than I anticipated in person,
and stood taller than me the way it was mounted on the wall. The colors were more
vibrant than any picture online could convey, and I found that I had to restrain
myself from physically touching the lines of color that symbolized the street lamps
light. Up close, I was able to notice the finer details of the work. The lines seemed a
little messier and more hastily painted than I had originally thought, however, this
added to the movement of the piece overall. I found myself wishing that the lines of

In this paper, I will argue that the Mind Brain Identity Theory provides sufficient
grounds to accept Epicurus argument for death being annihilation. I will argue my
thesis by referring to Peter Carruthers The Mind Is the Brain to establish that one s
mental states are in fact brain states and will also refer to Epicurus Death is Nothing to
Us. Next, I will explain that if one accepts the Identity Theory then one should also
accept, as Epicurus argues, that death should not be feared, for it is annihilation. I
will conclude by refuting objections to the Identity Theory and the Epicurean
argument on death.
In order to accept the validity of the Identity Theory, one must have a thorough
understanding of it. It is a form of materialism which asserts that all mental states
and events are in fact physical states and events (Carruthers 301). For example, if I
were to put my hand on a hot stove, I would have a conscious awareness of the pain
of my burning flesh and it would provoke physical actions such as immediately
drawing back my hand and screaming. This instance illustrates Carruthers first
premise in the Identity Theory argument that conscious states and events, or my
awareness of the pain of burning my hand, is a causal condition for the occurrence
of physical states and events, which would be exemplified by me drawing back my
hand and screaming (Carruthers 302).

This article is shows different strategies that a principal can use to help raise test
scores in schools. The strategies mentioned have been used by principals in the past
and, therefore, have been successful for schools. The authors mention six different
strategies that can be helpful and certainly fall along the lines of best practice. The
strategies involved are analyzing test data, parents support score raising efforts,
constant monitoring of progress, looking at student work helps improve teaching,

My Immortal by Evanescence conveys the same tone and mood as the scene in
Catcher in the Rye, where Holden ruminates about his deceased brother while
writing Stradlater s composition. Holden constantly has Allie s death on the mind,

Intro To Art History The Torment of Saint Anthony is the earliest known painting by
Michelangelo. The artist was only twelve years old when he created this masterpiece,
and the piece is now currently a part of the permanent collection at the Kimbell Art
Museum. The painting shows demons and devils ambushing the Medieval Saint
Anthony, in an ironically peaceful landscape. The compiling details of this painting
emerges a dark and mysterious light that may depict how Michelangelo was feeling
at the time of his creation. There are a few major compositional shapes that really
stand out from the rest of the painting. The first is saint Anthony, who is wearing...
The lines are fierce so the teeth seem fierce. The way the monsters stick is held in
the air looks as if he is about to hit the Saint on the head, so that maybe the victory
of taking the saint is less of a hassle. The demon to its right has wings that expand
all the way out into the peaceful blue sky. The harsh green color of its wings
against the light blue of the background portray the intensity of this particular
monster. The face on this demons face is very unclear, and somewhat distorted.
This is proof that Michelangelo used a lot of his imagination to depict this
painting. Although the face is a bit distorted, you can still with your own
perspective draw out what the demons face should look like. Each monster has a
different compositional shape, which allows for the painting to be more
interesting. Each wing, tail, arm and pair of legs are all different. He uses many of
the same techniques with his lines and cross hatching, yet the demons are all
specifically diverse. As you finish pondering the disturbing and detailed image of
the Saint and the demons, your eyes then begin to rest on the landscape, where they
are better soothed due to the cool colors Michelangelo used. The strokes of his brush
are very smooth and relaxed unlike the demons, which are more sporadic.
