Describe Emerson s Idea Of Self-Reliance
Analysis of Self Reliance
1. Describe Emerson s idea of self reliance in your own words. To what extent do you agree or
disagree with his philosophy? Would you consider yourself to be self reliant and to what
degree? Emerson s idea of self reliance is that a person must seek truth above all else in life, or
else their life has been wasted. To find truth a person must not listen or be bothered by the
opinions of others, form their own opinions and not just adopt whatever may be popular at the
time, not change their purpose in life to fit someone else s expectations of what it should be, and
above all to seek your own individual truth without conforming to what the world believes or
wants to change you into. I agree with Emerson that a person should find their own reason for
living, and that that purpose should drive their actions and intentions, I also agree that other
people s opinions on what you should do with your own life should be ignored. However, I disagree
with Emerson on his idea that a person should not be bound to what they have said in the past,
and that you should have no regard for consistency of actions or words. I believe that a person
should be consistent in their words in actions, or else they are not being authentic to themselves.
I also do not agree with Emerson in that if a person conforms at all to societal views or pressures
that everything they say or do will be false because one portion of their beliefs is borrowed from
the world. I believe

A Brief Note On Pharmacology And The Nursing Process
Digoxin

Pharmacology and the Nursing Process

Sandra Laird
April 1, 2015 OVERVIEW OF DIGOXIN
Origin
Digoxin is a drug gotten from the leaves of a digitalis plant ( Digitalis, 2015, para. 1). We
commonly refer to this plant as foxglove but we also use its botanical name, which is Digitalis
purpurea when discussing it ( Digitalis, 2015, para. 2). Foxglove is a popular flower that can be
found growing along the roadsides and in meadows or waterlogged areas usually in the western
region of the United States ( Digitalis, 2015, para. 2). Although this plant can now be found in
America, European immigrants originally brought Foxglove into the United States centuries ago (
Digitalis, 2015, para. 2). William Withering first described the therapeutic effect of this plant in
1785 ( Digitalis, 2015, para. 4).
Drug Class
Digoxin is grouped under a class of drugs known as cardiac glycosides (Lilley, Collins, Snyder,
2014, p. 387). Cardiac Glycosides are a class of drugs known as cardiac drugs (Lilley, Collins,
Snyder, 2014, p. 387). They are the oldest group of cardiac drugs that are recognized to have
beneficial effects on people with failing heart and help in controlling the heart s ventricular rate
(Lilley, Collins, Snyder, 2014, p. 387). These drugs help make the heart beat stronger and with a
more regular rhythm. In previous years, cardiac glycosides (digoxin) were used as the first line
drugs for heart

A Report On Korean Industrial Production
Introduction
VoC approach does not provide sufficient prototypes.
South Korea is SME
Turkey is also SME because it has similar characteristics. State policies are similar.
However, outcomes of these state policies are quite different (give figures) In the mid 1950 s,
Turkey was a much richer country than Korea. With about the same population, Turkish GNP was
about three times that of Korea, Turkish exports were fifteen times those of Korea, and the
Turkish savings rate was much higher than Korean. By 1980, the situation was dramatically
reversed, as Turkish income was 40 percent below Korea s, Turkish exports were less than one
fourth those of Korea and the Turkish savings rate was about two thirds of Korea s. (Krueger)
There are either economic advantages or economic disadvantages to a military alliance with the
United States, both countries had them. And, insofar as proximity to a rapidly growing region of
the world affects growth, Turkey and Korea had Europe and Japan, respectively (Krueger).
Korean industrial production rose forty five fold between 1960 and 1984, whereas Turkish
industrial production was 6.6 times higher in the same period. (Yilmaz)
During the period 1963 1990, total factor productivity (TFP) increased at an average rate of 2.4
percent in Korea. In this period, TFP in Turkey increased at an average rate of almost 0.9 percent.

Analysis Of Dante Alihieri s Purgatorio By Dante Is...
In Dante Alihieri s Purgatorio, Dante is climbing up the Mount of Purgatory. Dante encounters
many trials that he must face with the help of Virgil (human reason). The closer Dante gets the to
the top of Purgatory the more and more Virgil fades away and when he finally does disappear
Beatrice is there to be Dante s guide.. Throughout Purgatorio, Alihieri uses Beatrice not only as a
symbol to portray the medieval church but also a light. This is why Dante is blinded by the sight
of Beatrice when she drops the veil. Most commentators agree with idea of Beatrice being a symbol
of both the church and light while Bernard Stambler agrees with this but he expands upon that
symbol. While most commentators believe that Beatrice is an accurate example of the Church,
others tend to believe that the chariot that Alihieri talks about in Canto 32 is a more accurate
representation of the church. John Carroll was one of the ones to believe this. In Stambler s book,
Dante s Other World; the Purgatorio as Guide to the Divine Comedy, he talks about how Beatrice is
more than just one symbol in Canto 32 and 33 in Purgatorio. He says that first, the essential
function of the Church throughout the purgatorial process and through the further preparation of
the soul for its entrance to heaven; second, the material decay into which the Church as an
institution had fallen through her usurpation of temporal functions (Stambler 271). He is saying
that Beatrice is a symbol for Church but he expands

Importance Of Islam In The Long Distance Trade
Islam played a key role in the long distance trade between the South China Sea and the
Mediterranean Sea from the 7th century until the late 15th century. During this time, Islam had a
large number of merchants which allowed for them to play such a role in the expansion of trade
and which also allowed for the expansion of Islamas a religion. The Silk Road was the most used
land routes between the 7th and 15th century and this was because it was the largest, most active
trade routes that stretched the longest distance which allowed for further reach of resources,
commodities, ideas, technology, and religion. The silk road had many different land and sea
routes that went a range of distances and to a variety of different places. The role that Islam
played in the trade between the South China Sea and the Mediterranean Sea, was also beneficial
for them. The long distance trade allowed for Islam to grow and develop in many ways. Due to the
extreme distances that the trade routes covered, Islam, the second largest religion, behind
Christianity, was able to share their beliefs as a culture and as a religion. There were many different
key assets and events that help with the expansion of the long distance trade routes and their goods
between the 7th and the 15th century. During this time, Muhammadwas a key figure in the Islamic
religion and the Islamic culture. Which also meant that he was a key role in helping Islam gain its
role in the long distance trade. The prophet

The For Project Management Capabilities Development
2.1 INSTUTIONS FOR PROJECT MANAGEMENT CAPABILITY DEVELOPMENT
The evolution in institutes and association in project management had Initial activities concentrated
on information exchange and project practices but soon expanded into the area of certification. The
requirement for certification standardization by the associations first PMI in USA, and later APM
in UK, developed their own reference documents. The first version of its (Guide to the) Project
Management Body of Knowledge in 1976 and reviewed by 1983 was produced and Various other
national project management associations produced their own versions, in some cases quite
different from PMI‟s. these BOKs were developed over the period 1976 2001 [Morris et al
2006]. PMI became the primary basis of certification program in the mid 1980 s with further
updates in the upcoming years. On the other hand, Professional Standards Group (PSG) of UK
Association of project managers (APM) leads to development of APM s body of knowledge. The
content of APM s BOK was dictated by APM certification programmer, which made document to

Animal Farm Old Major Analysis
Old Major is a twelve year old boar with a wise and benevolent appearance. He feels that it is his
duty to pass on his wisdom to the other animals before he dies. Old Major is the speaker of a
speech he makes in the novel Animal Farm. In his speech he argued the idea that men are the
enemies of the animals. Old Major s purpose is to convey the idea that the only way for the animals
to get justice is to form a rebellion. Old Major adopts a serious tone in order to convince the
animals that the only way to get justice from the enemies is to rebel against them.
Old Major begins his speech by recognizing that before he dies his job is to pass on his wisdom
into the other animals in the farm. To prove that he has qualifications in saying this, he states, I
have had much time for thought as I lay alone in my stall (5). He says this in order to prove that he
has had many hours to think and put his thoughts in order. This sharing of emotion creates a
serious tone that elaborates how the animals need to receive this wisdom before Old Major is no
longer with them. Old Major, the speaker, of a speech made in the novel Animal Farm believes
that before his death, his comrades need to obtain his knowledge on the nature of life.
Furthermore, Old Major shifts his topic in the middle of the speech by claiming that men are the
enemies of the animals. He argues that humans are evil when he states, Why then do we continue in
this miserable condition? Because nearly the whole of the

Essay About Peranakans
In this essay, I will be introducing the culture of Peranakans or more commonly known as Babas
and Nyonyas for the men and women respectively. The Peranakans are usually the descendants of
Malays and Chinese who were intermarried in the early 1500s and, had settled down in Malaysia,
Singapore, and Indonesia. The reason for choosing this topic is due to my ancestry and I have seen
part of the culture being led by my grandmother. I will be discussing the five main aspects, namely
the history, fashion, food, languages and the religions.
Legend has claimed that in 1459, Chinese Princess Hang Li Po resettled herself in Malacca as she
got married to Malaysia sultan and, her entourage consisted of an estimated number of 500 servants,
relatives, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the olden days, part of the requirements to become a bride in a strict Peranakan household
includes the ability to prepare high quality Nyonyas cuisines that are recognised by her future
mother in law s, else the wedding could be called off.
The Peranakan food has contributed to the modern day in Southeast Asia significantly, as proven by
many of the Nyonya restaurants being established in Malaysia and Singapore in recent years.
The traditional Peranakans language or the Bahasa Melayu baba is a unique language with a
mixture of Malay language and Chinese dialects. However, during the British colonial era, many
Peranakans picked up English language and thus, the following generations of the Peranakans
communicated using Chinese dialects or specifically (Hokkien), Malay language and English in the
olden days. Peranakans languages are different from Singlish or colloquial English as it consists of
mainly Malays language.
Today, the new generation of Peranakans have lost their old ways and the traditional language.
Nowadays, English and Chinese languages have replaced the Peranakan Malays and hence, there
could be certain communication barriers between the older and younger

Genetically Modified Foods Research Paper
Even though it is evident that the potential of genetically modified organisms to improve our food
production is astronomical, they are not without their drawbacks. Since it is the negative public
opinion of genetically modified organisms that is affecting their application their negative aspects
are often magnified and become very important to their future use. To accurately understand the full
story of genetically modified organisms it is important to look at some of the real issues that they
present and weigh these negatives against the many positives outlined earlier. One of the issues that
is very concerning to a large portion of the population is the lack of independent review for biotech
companies on their use and application of genetically modified organisms. According to Robin
Mather, a Senior Associate Editor at Mother Earth News who has written about GM crops since the
early 1990s, As the system now stands, biotech companies bring their own research to the
government body overseeing their products (Mather 44). Mather supports this claim with her
reference to the insight of Doug Gurian Sherman of the Union of Concerned Scientists, We don t
have the whole picture. That s no accident. Multibillion dollar agricultural corporations, including
Monsanto and Syngenta, have restricted independent research on their genetically engineered
crops. They have often refused to provide independent scientists with seeds, or they ve set... Show

Time Travel
For many years time travel was the stuff of science fiction. This was all just part of the world s
imagination until recently. Scientists now believe that the current laws of physics allow us to travel
though time. They believe that we can now travel back to see our founding fathers sign the
declaration of independence. We could travel to 2999 to witness the birth of the next new
millennium. Such travel would require a machine capable of withstanding great pressures and
incredible amounts of speed. The act of actually traveling though timeis for the most part, agreed
upon, but the implications of such travel is not so decided upon. Many different theorists have
different views of what could happen and some go, as far as to say that if we... Show more content

Time for a stationary observer on earth and for an astronaut on a spaceship of high velocity is
different. A person s heart beats to the rhythm of the realm it is in. One realm of time seems the
same as any other to the person in the realms, but not to an observer outside that realm that can see
the difference. As an example, astronauts traveling at 99% the speed of lightcould make a trip to
the star Procyon that is 11.4 light years away in 23 earth years round trip (Hewitt 229). Because
of time dilation, it would seem that only 3 years passed for the astronauts, there clocks would be
3 years older; they would be biologically only 3 years older (Hewitt 229). It would be the mission
control people that would appear to be 23 years older. The question is why dose this happen. Let
s say that we are in our hometown, looking at the grandfather clock that is in the center of town.
The clock reads 12:00 noon. Light from the sun bounces off the face of the clock and hits our
eyes. We then turn our head and the light misses us and travels off into space. In space, there is a
space ship that is traveling at the speed of light. An astronaut looks out his passenger side
window and sees the reflection of the clock. It reads 12:00 noon. As he continues to move at the
speed of light, he keeps up with the reflected face of the clock. In the space ship time would pass
as normal, but time in the universe would have seemed to stop. This might sound like

Essay on The Swastika in MAUS
The Swastika in MAUS
The image of the swastika pervades Arthur Spiegelman s graphic novel MAUS. In a work where
so much of the Holocaust has been changed in some way after all, there are no humans in this
version, only cats, mice, dogs, and pigs we must wonder why Spiegelman chooses to retain this
well known emblem. To remove it entirely or replace it with another, invented symbolwould
completely disorient the reader; but some might claim that this is the effect at which Spiegelman is
aiming. I believe it is not. Rather, Spiegelman uses the swastika to subtly remind the reader that
while the guise in which events are presented may be somewhat unfamiliar, the novel is still a
narrative of the Holocaust.
The swastika, it has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But these changes help to make it more stern, more authoritarian, more evil a testament to
Spiegelman s ability to adapt this already emotionally loaded symbol.
It is with the coming of the swastika that the graphic novel becomes dark . I mean this in two
ways. First, the first chapter of the novel is rather light in its message, focusing on the beginning
of the relationship between Vladek and Anja. The swastika first appears on the frontispiece to
the second chapter, ironically titled The Honeymoon . After this point, the totalitarianism begins.
The presence of the swastika is strongest at the first time Vladek sees it. He states, on first seeing
it, It was the beginning of 1938 before the war hanging high in the center of town, it was a Nazi
flag. Here was the first time I saw, with my own eyes, the swastika. On the next page, the swastika
becomes detached from the flag and floats like an ominous moon on the horizon behind the scene
of a pogrom. Spiegelman here is milking the emotive power of the swastika for all that it is worth.
But perhaps the most interesting use of the swastika in MAUS is to be found towards the end of
the book. Anja and Vladek are attempting to hide when they come to a crossroads, and the roads
meet in the form of a swastika. Vladek tells Art: Anja and I didn t have where to go. We walked in
the direction of Sosnowiec but where to go?! It was nowhere we had

`` My Dream `` By Brittany Maynard
My dream is that every terminally ill American has access to the choice to die on their own
terms with dignity. Please take an active role to make this a reality (qtd Brittany Maynard Fund
). Brittany Maynard Diaz, a 29 year old woman who was diagnosed with Glioblastoma and only
given six months to live, turned her tragedy into a legacy when she chose to die with dignity.
She became an advocate for the Compassion and Choices End of Life Consultation or EOLC
program by sharing her story and decision with everyone in America in an effort to help give
everyone in her situation the same options. She believed in dying with dignity for the same
basic reasons that many others do; constitutionally speaking, it is within everyone s individual
rights, it is an established medical practice used all over the world, and no one should be forced
to suffer needlessly. After researching her diagnosed form of cancer and discussing her options
with her family, any type of treatment given would only destroy the quality of life during the
time she had left to live. What would you do? Imagine going to the doctor after numerous, severe
headaches. The doctor performs a CT scan that reveals a rapidly growing brain tumor. The doctor
breaks down the information, reveals that the tumor is a rare form of cancer, and is inoperable.
Unfortunately, the doctor also relays the life expectancy with a cancer this rare and aggressive; a
few months at best and those short months will become increasingly

Privacy In Law Enforcement Essay
In law enforcement, protecting lives, safeguarding property, and reducing crime is constantly
challenged by increasingly sophisticated criminal activities. Governments and law enforcement
agencies strive to stay ahead of offenders and ensure the safety of law enforcement professionals
relying more and more on rapidly changing technology. In car camera systems, for example, are
now valuable tools used to ensure and validate a high degree of officer professionalism (Schultz,
2016). But as criminal activities and technology changes, so does society s views on justice. Issues
related to Constitutional protections and citizens privacy as well as how defendants and victims
are treated have been debated for a long time in the U.S. ( 21st Century , n.d.). Privacy, especially,

does not mean they will actually participate in criminal behavior. People who inherit the sickle

Examples Of Self Destruction In Macbeth
In life people seek prosperity. Humans have been trained to always want more, never satisfied
with what they have. Whether someone does everything in their power to achieve a promotion, or
someone tries to become rich. The previous example shows selfishness and that people will do
whatever it takes to achieve these goals, whether an asset to society, or a downfall. In the
Renaissance tragedy, Macbeth, Shakespeare reveals how people s greediness and feeling entitlement
to prosperity causes their own self destruction. Greed, the selfish desire for something that causes
people to perform acts that they may have thought they were not capable of, which can change
somebody s entire outlook on life and change their entire personality. Greed consume... Show more

unhealthy and can cause people to hallucinate and see things that aren t really there. Shall never

protest me the baby of a girl. Hence, horrible shadow! Unreal mockery, hence! Macbeth began
seeing ghosts, which was one of the first signs of his self destruction. Shakespeare shows that
this is part of the slow decent into insanity. Once this has started it is very hard to stop. A slow
and painful process, especially if being watched from the outside because the person s life
spirals out of control and nothing can be done to stop it. Is this a dagger which I see before me,
the handle toward my hand? Come, let me clutch thee. I have thee not, and yet I see thee still.
Art thou not, fatal vision, sensible to feelings as to sight? (II. i. pg. 51) Macbeth envisions a
dagger in his sleep. He has a nightmare and sees the dagger before him, unable to touch it.

The Greeks Were Deeply Religious People
The Greeks were deeply religious people. They worshiped many Gods who they believed
appeared in human like form and yet had superhuman strength including ageless beauty. The
Iliad and the Odyssey, were cultures earliest surviving examples of Greek literature that told
stories of men encountering with a variety of Gods and goddesses. Roman Religion was more
practical and less poetical than the Greek religion was however; they both had similar roles and
duties. The Greek religion was more of some ceremonies and big rituals. It included all sorts of
deities including Zeus, Hera, and Poseidon, (Alchin). The Greeks focused their entire life on
pleasing their gods with the exception of wine and animal offerings for the gods. The Romans...

Whereas Rome was divided into four different social systems: Freedmen, Slaves, Plebeians, and
Patricians (Binns). In the Roman society, the women were not treated as insignificant individuals,
as they were in Greece. Women were rather considered citizens, if they were not born into slavery,
therefor they were not able to hold political offices or vote. They were both known for their
architecture and contributions for some of today s society s buildings. The Greeks were responsible
for incorporating three different types of architectural styles: Corinthian, Doric, and Ionic. Most of
the Greek architecture inspired the Romans, who in turn adopted the Greek style however the
incorporated arches and aqueducts into their buildings. Another architectural notation is that the
Greeks chose to use statue figures to honor the human form, while Romans seemed to focus more
on the actual technique and the building design. The Greeks used materials like wood, plaster,
metals, and some marble to create their architecture. While the Romans did use some of the same
materials as the Greeks, they were responsible for the new incorporation of concrete as a new
building material, something the Greeks never had. In Greek class structure only free, landowning,
native born men could be citizens entitled to the full protection of the law in a city state. In most

The Sweet Sound of Elvis Essay
It was a muggy Sunday morning; I walked out of my bedroom and smelled the thick aroma of
pancakes cooking. In the distance I heard the radio going but just pushed it aside like it was
nothing. My mom was singing when I got into the kitchen, singing along with a man named Elvis.
At the time I had no idea who this crazy man was and why he sounded so interesting. I remember
that day like it was yesterday, she was so happy and cheerful nothing could bring her down. I saw
how that musicmad her and how it changed her attitude towards life and music. My mom said that
she liked the different types of music that he combined together, to make the unique melody that
everyone fell in live with. My moms interest soon became mine, starting to... Show more content on

When did he decide music is what he wanted in life? There are so many events that could have
changed Elvis s perspective on music, life and what he wanted to be. On deeper scale learning
from what Elvis did during his life will teach others that it is okay to make mistakes, learn from
them and move on. I want to know how it affected him when producers denied him. How he felt
with people reacted to his music. Elvis was a man that didn t really show his feelings, so I want to

of the most influential human beings in music history still known today.

really wanted to incorporate into my paper but I came across a few facts that were interesting,
David Dalton the writer of the rolling stones article about Elvis said that Elvis was supernatural,
his own resurrection. (Dalton, 1) this made me believe that Elvis was unusual and that there was
something more to him. This is when I decided to search a little deeper into his life. Next I came
across an article called the Homage to a rock king I looked into the article because the title was
intriguing. I found that people thought he was America s most gifted, distinctive and influential

The Working Alliance Between Supervisor And Supervisee
Clinical Supervision is defined as a distinct professional activity in which education and training
aimed at developing science informed practice are facilitated through a collaborative interpersonal
process (Falender Shafranske, 2004). According to Falander and Shafranske (2004), clinical
supervision involves observation, feedback, facilitating self assessment of the supervisee, and
knowledge acquisition through a variety of methods. In supervising developing therapists, more
senior members of the profession monitor the overall quality and development of the professional
services being offered by beginning members of the profession (Knox et. al., 2008). Similar to what
we know about therapy, the working alliance between supervisor and supervisee is an essential
piece of what would be considered a positive supervisory experience.
Bordin (1983) defined the working alliance within clinical supervision as a collaborative process
based on three central aspects: mutual agreement and understanding regarding the goals of
supervision; mutual agreement and understanding regarding the tasks of supervision; and the
emotional bond between supervisor and supervisee. Specifically, an effective supervisory alliance
has been shown to be related to a variety of positive outcomes within supervision, including
enhanced trainee multicultural competence (Ladany, Brittan Powell, Pannu, 1997), increased
trainee self disclosure (Ladany et al., 1997), reduced stress and psychological

Essay on Smoking in America
Smoking in America
In the United States today, more than forty six million Americans are addicted to cigarettes. More
people have died due to cigarette smoking than from narcotic drugs, World Wars I and II, and the
Vietnam War combined (Bailey 1). The annual death toll for cigarette smoking is more than four
hundred thousand Americans a year, and is the number one preventable cause of death in the
United States. If Americans are aware of the lethal effects of smoking, why is it still so popular?
Guy Smith, a Phillip Morris TobaccoCompany executive, claims that their research shows that
advertising is the top reason people start smoking (Bailey 34). Most people will argue that this is
not true because the do not like to be sold and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A major issue today in tobacco advertisement is the controversy over ads targeting children and
teenagers. The two companies under the most fire for their advertisements are Marlboro and
Camel. Marlboro uses a fictional Marlboro Man, while Camel uses a high rolling and
sophisticated cartoon character, Joe Camel. Camel has been attacked by several Tobacco free
organizations as a major influence on children. Dr. Lonnia Bristow of the American Medical
Association remarks, To children, cartoon characters mean that the product is harmless, but
cigarettes are not harmless. They have to know that their ads are influencing children under ten to
begin smoking, but choose not to stop creating them (Thomas). Researchers have conducted
studies that show six year olds recognize Joe Camel as well as they recognize Mickey Mouse.
Every industry denies that their advertising goal targets people under twenty one, and they claim
their goal is to simply promote brand switching and brand loyalty (Breo). Jeff Pearlman sums up the
attitude of the tobacco and advertising industries by saying, Is the use of a cartoon character in an
ad proof that you are targeting children ? If so, what about the Pink Panther selling insulation or
Snoopy promoting insurance? (Bill Clinton...). The media and the entertainment industries have a
major impact on smoking. With the help of movies and television, smoking seems

Subculture
There is something about the ideology of a subculture that sparks an interest in me. Maybe it is
intriguing due to its members originality, courage to stand up for beliefs, or freely expressing their

mainstream, and forming their own distinctive norms, not caring what the normal members of the
mainstream society think of them. Or do they care? Maybe that is the exact statement a subculture

Most of the original rebellion was directed towards the British class structure. They wanted to
express their disapproval of the structure that governed their country. In The Jam s Eton Rifles , the
band sarcastically attacks the upper class, calling them arrogant and preaching to them that rugby is
the only thing making them strong (Punk 68). The Sex Pistols album God Save The Queen portrays
the Queen of England with a safety pin through her nose on their cover. The reaction to this outburst
of shocking rebellion from the mainstream society was a strong, displeased one. American writer
Greil Marcus defined punk as, ...refusing the future society has planned for you. Thousands of
social misfits attempted just that. Through the many causes for this rebellious political expression:
communism, anarchy, feminism, etc., the punks of England had a focus and a reason. It was this
that made the punk a valid, yet undesired member of society, and the British public got to see this
sociological change first hand (Chamberlain par.8). Although this movement was short lived, its
impact was a phenomenon, and its effects were long lasting, which distinguished this group from

Prejudice In The 12 Angry Men
Prejudice is something that every one has experienced or seen in other people. In the film The
12 Angry Men, the 12 jurors are ready to send a young man to the execution chair for the murder
of his father. 11 of the twelve men vote that the boy is guilty but juror number 8 votes not guilty.
This man was able to see passed his prejudices while the other men are seemly blinded by them.
You can t dwell on what might have been... and it s not fair to condemn him for something he hasn

prejudices through their beliefs, words and attitude. A great example of how peoples beliefs can
influence the way they think about other people. The jurornumber 11 sees the young manas still a
child and in the men s eyes all children are born as liars. They are incapable of telling the truth and
therefore the boywould have had to kill his father and didn t go to the movies that night during

Practicing the presence is to develop a continual openness and awareness of Christ s presence
living in oneself . It involves turning your mind to a Christward direction, constantly being thankful
and doing everything for God. This reflective essay will cover numerous aspects of the spiritual
discipline of practicing the presence, including my original understanding, a significant Christian
historical figure, and denomination comparison. Furthermore, different personal experiences of
practising the presence, specifically individual, group and corporate, as well as a reflection on my
original ideas and closing with ways to encourage practising the presence in ones daily Christian

My original understanding about practising the presence was centralised on the idea of seeking
God through prayer and going into that secret place where I can just soak in His presence and
allow Him to renew and restore my soul.
A Significant Christian figure in history who has contributed to this discipline
Brother Lawrence is one of the most significant figures for the spiritual discipline of practising
the presence. He is known for his devotion to God and the ability to bring Him into every aspect

On the morning of May 18, 1980, the United States of America experienced its deadliest and
most destructive volcanic eruption in history. Briefly succeeding a magnitude 5.1 earthquake, an
enormous slab of Mount St. Helens northern flank collapsed in a massive debris avalanche. This
landslide was the largest to transpire on Earth in recorded history and caused the volcanoes
magma system to depressurize. With the cap of the mountain removed, superheated gases and
rock fragments blasted through the side of the mountain (USDA, 2005). The lateral blast

should a future event occur. Technology for monitoring volcanoes has advanced dramatically over
the last 36 years. The seismometers used in 1980 are prehistoric compared to todays equipment.
Nowadays, seismometers can hear low frequency indications of fluid moving deep below the Earth

public if evacuation s required. Although, monitoring might detect possible eruption but the
magnitude of an eruption is still difficult to determine (Crandell and Mullineaux,

If you think about it not much has changed in the overall look and theory of this ancient invention.
The look is similar to the brushes of the dark ages, but the materials used to make our modern
brushes are certainly different. Our (very) ancient ancestors used a thin twig with a frayed end to
rub away food from their teeth. Then they created more sophisticated versions with handles made
of bone, wood or ivory with the brushes crafted from the bristles of boars or other animals. With

There are many variations of the toothbrush, but basically you need to decide upon manual or
powered.
The toothbrush head should be small enough that it can reach each tooth. The bristles should be
soft, with rounded ends so you will feel comfortable brushing your gums.
Whichever type of toothbrush you settle on its always best to go with the style or brand that your
dentist recommends.
Powered toothbrushes are they better?
Both powered and manual toothbrushes can clean your teeth effectively. You may find that you
prefer an electric toothbrush because it takes less time to effectively clean your teeth than with a
manual brush. Electric toothbrushes are also a good choice for anyone who has limited dexterity,
such as arthritic fingers or hands.
Getting children to brush their teeth is sometimes a chore in itself and left to their own devices,
getting them to keep brushing for the recommended two to three minutes is sometimes impossible.
Using a power toothbrush may help children to be more motivated and excited about brushing their
teeth.

Plato s Levels Of Reality
Final Essay: Plato s Levels of Reality 1.Introduction Plato, arguably one of the most famous
philosophers in history is known for his dialogues and theory of Forms. The theory of Forms
argues that ideas (non physical forms) are more real than tangible objects or what our senses
perceive. According to Plato, there is the visible realm and intelligible realm. Reality could be
divided into three different levels; the level of appearances, the real level, and the ideal level
which he explains through the analogy of the Divided Line in The Republic. By viewing reality
in this bifurcated way, it is still philosophically useful to an extent as it provides different
perspectives to worldly problems. It forces humans to critically evaluate their knowledge, along
with ethical and practical considerations and practices When adopting this view, it should be
done so with caution as there are still some flaws within this way of thinking. 2.Main Body An
extension of the Sun simile where Plato attempts to explain goodness and the nature of reality
and knowledge, the Divided Line extrapolates on the relationship between the two realities and
their corresponding knowledge. The line is divided into two unequal parts the smaller part would
be the Visible Realm while the larger part would be the Intelligible realm . The two parts are then
divided into two unequal parts again of the same ratio the smaller part of the Visible realm is

COMM 440: Gender and Communication

Gender seems to be a hot topic in our society; many people feel the pressure to conform to a
specific gender stereotype without really being aware of what they are or their influences on our
perception. So what is a gender role? A genderrole is the overt expression of attitudes that indicate
to others the degree of your maleness or femaleness. A common gender stereotype in our culture has
been that a woman s place is as a homemaker, and caregiver, while men are expected to provide
for their families. In today s world women have been able to shed some of the more traditional

Cinderella, she never gets up the courage to confront her stepmom or stand up for herself.
I will now properly introduce to you the princess that started it all, the fairest of by far, Snow
White. Disney first released Snow White into the public in the1930 s. What set her apart was her
stunning beauty, something she has no control over, but was born into. Snow white was never seen
as anything more than a pretty face and a sweet nature. She was at the mercy of men, the dwarfs,
the huntsman, and the prince, to save her from an untimely death. Despite the warnings from the
dwarfs, and her current situation Snow went ahead and ate the poisonous apple from the disguised
witch. This only exemplifies Snow Whites weakness, and how easily she gives into temptation.
Snow White has a few talents which include, cooking, cleaning, and singing.
One of the most popular princesses, stayed out passed her curfew, came home missing a shoe,
and had lied to her stepmother as to her whereabouts. Cinderella is a princess that some would
say is a rag to riches story. I mentioned her earlier as being born into wealth, which is true
however she was treated as a servant and reaped none of the benefits. Cinderella is polite, obedient,
delicate, and last but not least beautiful. She lived and tolerated years of abuse from her stepmother

Forecasting By Vector Autoregression Models
CHAPTER NINE
FORECASTING BY VECTOR AUTOREGRESSION MODELS
9.1 Vector Autoregressive (VAR) Models
Vector Autoregression (VAR) models were introduced by the macro econometrician Christopher
Sims (1980) to model the joint dynamics and causal relations among a set of macroeconomic
variables. The vector autoregression (VAR) is commonly used for forecasting systems of
interrelated time series and for analyzing the dynamic impact of random disturbances on the
system of variables. The VAR approach sidesteps the need for structural modeling by treating every
endogenous variable in the system as a function of the lagged values of all of the endogenous
variables in the system.
The vector autoregression (VAR) model is one of the most successful, flexible, and easy to use
models for the analysis of multivariate time series. It is a natural extension of the univariate
autoregressive model to dynamic multivariate time series. The VAR model has proven to be
especially useful for describing the dynamic behavior of economic and financial time series and for
forecasting. It often provides superior forecasts to those from univariate time series models and
elaborate theory based simultaneous equations models. Forecasts from VAR models are quite
flexible because they can be made conditional on the potential future paths of specified variables in
the model.
In addition to data description and forecasting, the VAR model is also used for structural inference
and policy analysis. In structural

Abstract
This paper examines the use of performance enhancing drugs (PEDs) in professional sports. In all
professional sports like baseball, basketball, football, and organized fighting, PEDs have been
used to enhance athletes, however there is a question of ethics in the use of PEDs. Some
examples of PEDs are anabolic steroids, doping, and stimulants. All of these effect an athlete s
performance in a different way, although their health is also at risk. The life span of athletes is
depleting without the use of PEDs, therefore with PEDs being used it is only worse. Also these
professional athletes are role models to thousands of young athletes. These young athletes are

Drugs like anabolic steroids are some of the most common performance enhancing drugs used by
athletes. Victor Conte, the founder and president of BALCO, a sports nutrition center in California,
has been involved in several performance enhancing drug usage cases because of his company s
involvement in the making of performance enhancing drugs. After the notable suspension of Giants
star Melky Cabrera for having high levels of testosterone, Victor Conte said, As much as 50
percent of MLB players utilize performance enhancing drugs. (Kendrick, pars. 2) This was an
especially startling claim considering that only one hundred thirteen players have been
suspended for PED usage. There are approximately 1280 players in the MLB, and only 8.82% of
MLB players have been suspended for PED usage. If Victor Conte s claim that 50% of MLB
players use PEDs is correct there are 527 players using PEDs that have not yet been caught. Other
drugs that are commonly used are stimulants. According to the Mayo Clinic in an article on PEDs,
Stimulants are drugs that can reduce fatigue, suppress appetite, and increase alertness and
aggressiveness. They stimulate the central nervous system, increasing your heart rate, blood
pressure, body temperature and metabolism. (par. 6) Some examples of these are amphetamines,
ephedrine, and mesocarb. Amphetamines primarily help players have a significantly greater level
of alertness. This aids hitters who only have approximately 0.4 seconds to hit a pitch
(efastball.com, par. 3). Ephedrine reduces fatigue in players, which can assist players to have better
strength, power, and speed. Mesocarb increases workload capacity and cardiovascular function, and
these are just three of the many stimulants baseball players, all of which having dangerous side
effects. The Mayo Clinic has concluded that stimulant use can lead to,

Woman In The Odyssey
In the beginning there was darkness, and then magically God came to bring light. This light he
brought on Earth would be day, when the light disappears it will be called night. Genesis is a
crucial part of the bible because through this people could understand how the world was created.
Not only does it answer how the world was created, but also it answer the question of how man and
womanwere created as well. When Godcreated humans he wanted us to stay pure. This did not
happen because a snake manipulated Eve to eat the fruit off the tree she was forbidden from.
Although she knew it was wrong Eve ate the fruit hoping it would make her wise. This story
depicts woman as being curious beings, which most people might view as her being foolish.
Proverbs is somewhat different since it is more of a list a woman should fulfill; these tasks
however are not to be belittled. A woman does a lot more than what society thinks. They are wise

For Genesis most people would characterize Eve as being foolish for listening to a snake,
however, I see it as being curious. The snake is described as being more subtil than any beast of
the field (Genesis 1.1). She cannot be blamed for being a fool since the snake was clearly more
cleaver than she was. Adam however committed the same crime as Eve, but he was convinced
by his equal to do so. When God created man and woman he made them clueless, they were
unaware of good and evil. Eve saw the opportunity the tree of the knowledge of good and evil
had to offer her. The tree would make her wise and although God said they would die from eating
the fruit they did not. By acting independently Eve was able to open her eyes to the truth of her
surroundings. In Proverb they describe everything a woman does more than just bare children. They
are smart individuals who have the ability to achieve

Critical Writing Review Of Hamlet
Many people equate good critical writing with very descriptive writing when that is simply not
true. Good critical writing should not just be an in depth description of a topic. Good critical
writing should include a clear presentation of your argument and your own evidence, a clear and
confident refusal to accept opposing conclusions from other critical writers, and a balanced
presentation of reasons why the conclusions of other writers may be accepted but are ultimately not
correct. Many people have written reviews about Kenneth Branagh s four hour uncut movie

being a critical writing piece.

Learning Theory, Prior Attachment Experience Within Early...
Within this essay there will be a consideration to one key element in detail, with the intention of
describing a successful mathematics lesson; with reference to relevant learning theory, prior
attachment experience within early years and educational reporters.
A mathematics lesson has many key elements to make it successful within an educational setting,
such as hands on learning, the use of resources and use of assessment. This essay will have a core
focus on children learning through play with regard to Development Matters. (Early Education,
2012).
When planning practical learning activities, practitioners may come across some difficulties with
regards to equal learning opportunities (Atherton, 2013). These issues may include but are not
limited to effective differentiation, assessment and different learning styles. It can be suggested from
observations on attachment, it is apparent that adapting learning activities to suit the needs of all
children can be difficult but these activities can be adapted such as when using number during play,
bigger numbers can be used for the higher ability and smaller numbers for the lower ability, Visser
(1993) concurs, stating that teachers can meet the need for progress by selecting appropriate
teaching methods to match the individual pupil s learning strategies, within a classroom setting.
As children grow they will develop their own, individual learning style and this can be difficult for

Eisenhower s Farewell Address Analysis
Eisenhower s Farewell Address
After World War II, America continued to increase their defense to avoid more losses like the Pearl
Harbor incident that killed 2,300 Americans and destroyed ships and aircraft. Furthermore, the Cold
War raised the demand to increase the American defense system. President Dwight D. Eisenhower,
the supreme commander of the Allied Forces during WWII and two term President, was concerned
about the sudden growth and cost of the American defense system. During his Farewell Address,
Eisenhower addressed his concerns about keeping the peace, the creation of numerous weapons for
the national defense, and how scientific and technologic development becomes a powerful and
unregulated tool.
One of Eisenhower s concerns ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the United States faced two world wars in less than fifty years, the American government is
obligated to create military weapons and equipment from an armament specialized industry, not
from other industries. American makers of plowshares could, with time and as required, make
swords as well. But now we can no longer risk emergency improvisation of national defense; we
have been compelled to create a permanent armaments industry of vast proportions (Ravitch 537).
With the government investing millions to billions of dollars in armament industries, these
industries create and innovate various equipment, weapons, and technology for the military to
employ in their duty defending the country from outside threats. As the fear of communism
continued to spread across the country, the American government invested billions of dollars in
wars against communist regimes. Furthermore, missile forces expanded even further. Some people
may argue the American government exploited the Red Scare to enhance patriotism, national unity,
and authority. However, there is no evidence to back up this claim since it is a conspiracy theory
based on intuition. The Arms Race during the Cold Waris an example of the American government
compelled to employ numerous weapons and technology to demonstrate the strength of their
military. With the Soviets continuing to send satellites such as Sputnik and develop their own
versions of the Atomic and Hydrogen bombs, the Americans employed initiatives such as the
Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI) to counter the Soviet threats. The Arms Race continued until the
Soviet Union disbanded in the early 90s and ruined the economy spending money on weapons and
technology. In a sense, the Cold War prevented a WWIII since the Americans and Soviets spent
billions of dollars on their national defense rather than initiating a

Compare And Contrast Twilight And The Vampire Diaries
Twilight Movie Series Versus The Vampire Diaries Television Series It is an extraordinary thing
to meet someone who you can bare your soul to and accept you for what you are , this is a quote
from Edward Cullen in the movie Twilight. The Twilight movie series focuses on Bella and
Edward s love life and what it entails. These movies came out from 2008 2012. In 2009 the CW
came out with the hit television series The VampireDiaries, which focuses on Elena Gilbert and her
life along with the Salvatore brothers. Both series originated from a book series and have been a
popular source of entertainment for years. The Twilightmovie series and The Vampire Diaries
television series both have similarities and differences that revolve around the main characters,
content, and story line. First, to compare and contrast Twilight and The Vampire Diaries, the main
characters need to be analyzed. Bella Swanand Edward Cullen are the main characters in the
Twilight movies, while Elena Gilbert and Stefan and Damon Salvatore are the main characters
in The Vampire Diaries. Both Elena and Bella are humans at the beginning of each series and
fall in love with a vampire. However, the similarities between the two female characters end
there. Elena is an older sibling and very protective of her younger brother, Jeremy. Elena is also
very popular and has many friends. Elena makes it very clear in the series that she does not want
to be a vampire. Bella, on the other hand, wants to become a

The purpose of this work is to explore Machiavelli s political philosophy through the lens of
discord. In terms of discord, Machiavelli presents the two main rivals, who are the nobles and the
people. He sees the two different humors of the nobles and the people as the cause of discord. He
observes that conflicts caused by the two diverse humors create salutary effects. His praise of
tumults has inspired scholars not only to relate the notion of humors to the discussion of political
freedom, but also to find the origin of the Modern Republicanism in his political philosophy.
Focusing on the irrational cause of humors, however, existing studies have slightly overlooked
rational causes such as idea or reason or knowledge of political... Show more content on

He also plays an important role in transforming detrimental results of discord to its salutary results.
In this dissertation, I will categorize the one man s characteristics into three features: tyrannical,
prudent, and deceitful. I will also illustrate how the one man manages discord, and even controls it
having with his three characteristics. The last question is associated with the relationship between
discord and regime. Conflicts take an important role in the creation of regime, its decline, and its
extinction. Presenting the connection between discord and regime, this work also explores the
regime types for which Machiavelli designs. In his preference of the republican regime, I will
present the distinctive features of Machiavelli s regime, which are tumultuous, rejuvenated, the
presence of the one man. Based on that, I will conclude that the presence of the one man is crucial
in terms of Machiavelli s regime. In the discussion of discord, there are two main contenders of the
nobles and the people defined. The one man is invisible in conflicts. However, his role is critical in
conflicts between them. Like an invisible hand, he involves in competitive relationship between
them by affecting the outbreak of tumults, its intensity, and its settlement. He also plays an
invisible, but important role in making Machiavelli s

Quality of Work Life Ethics and QWL are two interlinked work environment factors in
enterprises. QWL is the perceptions to which the business meets the full scale of employees
needs for their well being at work. The QWL are of two categories, lower order and higher order.
Fig 1. depicts the conceptual model of the QWL. This is very essential for continuous attraction of
human resource and also to retain the current work force. Regardless, many of the employees are
experiencing dissatisfaction towards work and the work place. Loss of interest, drop in production,
low employee morale etc. all leading to the overall drop in operations. Similarly, while at work, we
had been subjected to immense stress and high job deliverance which led to poor performance
constantly month on month. Frustration built amongst employees in this particular project more
than the other processes across the floor. This project was Accenture‟s Diamond project and the
maximum revenue generator and the decline in production only meant pushing employees to strive
harder beyond the point of exhaustion. So much that the meal break time was down sized, team
huddle time slots were allocated outside the production time. A feeling

  • 2. Describe Emerson s Idea Of Self-Reliance Analysis of Self Reliance 1. Describe Emerson s idea of self reliance in your own words. To what extent do you agree or disagree with his philosophy? Would you consider yourself to be self reliant and to what degree? Emerson s idea of self reliance is that a person must seek truth above all else in life, or else their life has been wasted. To find truth a person must not listen or be bothered by the opinions of others, form their own opinions and not just adopt whatever may be popular at the time, not change their purpose in life to fit someone else s expectations of what it should be, and above all to seek your own individual truth without conforming to what the world believes or wants to change you into. I agree with Emerson that a person should find their own reason for living, and that that purpose should drive their actions and intentions, I also agree that other people s opinions on what you should do with your own life should be ignored. However, I disagree with Emerson on his idea that a person should not be bound to what they have said in the past, and that you should have no regard for consistency of actions or words. I believe that a person should be consistent in their words in actions, or else they are not being authentic to themselves. I also do not agree with Emerson in that if a person conforms at all to societal views or pressures that everything they say or do will be false because one portion of their beliefs is borrowed from the world. I believe ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. A Brief Note On Pharmacology And The Nursing Process Digoxin Oluchi Madubuike University of Texas at Arlington Pharmacology and the Nursing Process N3365 001 Sandra Laird April 1, 2015 OVERVIEW OF DIGOXIN Origin Digoxin is a drug gotten from the leaves of a digitalis plant ( Digitalis, 2015, para. 1). We commonly refer to this plant as foxglove but we also use its botanical name, which is Digitalis purpurea when discussing it ( Digitalis, 2015, para. 2). Foxglove is a popular flower that can be found growing along the roadsides and in meadows or waterlogged areas usually in the western region of the United States ( Digitalis, 2015, para. 2). Although this plant can now be found in America, European immigrants originally brought Foxglove into the United States centuries ago ( Digitalis, 2015, para. 2). William Withering first described the therapeutic effect of this plant in 1785 ( Digitalis, 2015, para. 4). Drug Class Digoxin is grouped under a class of drugs known as cardiac glycosides (Lilley, Collins, Snyder, 2014, p. 387). Cardiac Glycosides are a class of drugs known as cardiac drugs (Lilley, Collins, Snyder, 2014, p. 387). They are the oldest group of cardiac drugs that are recognized to have beneficial effects on people with failing heart and help in controlling the heart s ventricular rate (Lilley, Collins, Snyder, 2014, p. 387). These drugs help make the heart beat stronger and with a more regular rhythm. In previous years, cardiac glycosides (digoxin) were used as the first line drugs for heart ... State policies are similar. However, outcomes of these state policies are quite different (give figures) In the mid 1950 s, Turkey was a much richer country than Korea. With about the same population, Turkish GNP was about three times that of Korea, Turkish exports were fifteen times those of Korea, and the Turkish savings rate was much higher than Korean. By 1980, the situation was dramatically reversed, as Turkish income was 40 percent below Korea s, Turkish exports were less than one fourth those of Korea and the Turkish savings rate was about two thirds of Korea s. (Krueger) There are either economic advantages or economic disadvantages to a military alliance with the United States, both countries had them. And, insofar as proximity to a rapidly growing region of the world affects growth, Turkey and Korea had Europe and Japan, respectively (Krueger). Korean industrial production rose forty five fold between 1960 and 1984, whereas Turkish industrial production was 6.6 times higher in the same period. (Yilmaz) During the period 1963 1990, total factor productivity (TFP) increased at an average rate of 2.4 percent in Korea. In this period, TFP in Turkey increased at an average rate of almost 0.9 percent. (Yilmaz) In the absence of big private businesses in Turkey, the state assigned a leading and dominant role ... • 6. Analysis Of Dante Alihieri s Purgatorio By Dante Is... In Dante Alihieri s Purgatorio, Dante is climbing up the Mount of Purgatory. Dante encounters many trials that he must face with the help of Virgil (human reason). The closer Dante gets the to the top of Purgatory the more and more Virgil fades away and when he finally does disappear Beatrice is there to be Dante s guide.. Throughout Purgatorio, Alihieri uses Beatrice not only as a symbol to portray the medieval church but also a light. This is why Dante is blinded by the sight of Beatrice when she drops the veil. Most commentators agree with idea of Beatrice being a symbol of both the church and light while Bernard Stambler agrees with this but he expands upon that symbol. While most commentators believe that Beatrice is an accurate example of the Church, others tend to believe that the chariot that Alihieri talks about in Canto 32 is a more accurate representation of the church. John Carroll was one of the ones to believe this. In Stambler s book, Dante s Other World; the Purgatorio as Guide to the Divine Comedy, he talks about how Beatrice is more than just one symbol in Canto 32 and 33 in Purgatorio. He says that first, the essential function of the Church throughout the purgatorial process and through the further preparation of the soul for its entrance to heaven; second, the material decay into which the Church as an institution had fallen through her usurpation of temporal functions (Stambler 271). He is saying that Beatrice is a symbol for Church but he expands ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Importance Of Islam In The Long Distance Trade Islam played a key role in the long distance trade between the South China Sea and the Mediterranean Sea from the 7th century until the late 15th century. During this time, Islam had a large number of merchants which allowed for them to play such a role in the expansion of trade and which also allowed for the expansion of Islamas a religion. The Silk Road was the most used land routes between the 7th and 15th century and this was because it was the largest, most active trade routes that stretched the longest distance which allowed for further reach of resources, commodities, ideas, technology, and religion. The silk road had many different land and sea routes that went a range of distances and to a variety of different places. The role that Islam played in the trade between the South China Sea and the Mediterranean Sea, was also beneficial for them. The long distance trade allowed for Islam to grow and develop in many ways. Due to the extreme distances that the trade routes covered, Islam, the second largest religion, behind Christianity, was able to share their beliefs as a culture and as a religion. There were many different key assets and events that help with the expansion of the long distance trade routes and their goods between the 7th and the 15th century. During this time, Muhammadwas a key figure in the Islamic religion and the Islamic culture. Which also meant that he was a key role in helping Islam gain its role in the long distance trade. • 9. Animal Farm Old Major Analysis Old Major is a twelve year old boar with a wise and benevolent appearance. He feels that it is his duty to pass on his wisdom to the other animals before he dies. Old Major is the speaker of a speech he makes in the novel Animal Farm. In his speech he argued the idea that men are the enemies of the animals. Old Major s purpose is to convey the idea that the only way for the animals to get justice is to form a rebellion. Old Major adopts a serious tone in order to convince the animals that the only way to get justice from the enemies is to rebel against them. Old Major begins his speech by recognizing that before he dies his job is to pass on his wisdom into the other animals in the farm. To prove that he has qualifications in saying this, he states, I have had much time for thought as I lay alone in my stall (5). He says this in order to prove that he has had many hours to think and put his thoughts in order. This sharing of emotion creates a serious tone that elaborates how the animals need to receive this wisdom before Old Major is no longer with them. Old Major, the speaker, of a speech made in the novel Animal Farm believes that before his death, his comrades need to obtain his knowledge on the nature of life. Furthermore, Old Major shifts his topic in the middle of the speech by claiming that men are the enemies of the animals. He argues that humans are evil when he states, Why then do we continue in this miserable condition? Because nearly the whole of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Essay About Peranakans In this essay, I will be introducing the culture of Peranakans or more commonly known as Babas and Nyonyas for the men and women respectively. The Peranakans are usually the descendants of Malays and Chinese who were intermarried in the early 1500s and, had settled down in Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia. The reason for choosing this topic is due to my ancestry and I have seen part of the culture being led by my grandmother. I will be discussing the five main aspects, namely the history, fashion, food, languages and the religions. Legend has claimed that in 1459, Chinese Princess Hang Li Po resettled herself in Malacca as she got married to Malaysia sultan and, her entourage consisted of an estimated number of 500 servants, relatives, ... In the olden days, part of the requirements to become a bride in a strict Peranakan household includes the ability to prepare high quality Nyonyas cuisines that are recognised by her future mother in law s, else the wedding could be called off. The traditional Peranakans language or the Bahasa Melayu baba is a unique language with a mixture of Malay language and Chinese dialects. However, during the British colonial era, many Peranakans picked up English language and thus, the following generations of the Peranakans communicated using Chinese dialects or specifically (Hokkien), Malay language and English in the olden days. Peranakans languages are different from Singlish or colloquial English as it consists of mainly Malays language. Today, the new generation of Peranakans have lost their old ways and the traditional language. • 11. Genetically Modified Foods Research Paper Even though it is evident that the potential of genetically modified organisms to improve our food production is astronomical, they are not without their drawbacks. Since it is the negative public opinion of genetically modified organisms that is affecting their application their negative aspects are often magnified and become very important to their future use. To accurately understand the full story of genetically modified organisms it is important to look at some of the real issues that they present and weigh these negatives against the many positives outlined earlier. One of the issues that is very concerning to a large portion of the population is the lack of independent review for biotech companies on their use and application of genetically modified organisms. According to Robin Mather, a Senior Associate Editor at Mother Earth News who has written about GM crops since the early 1990s, As the system now stands, biotech companies bring their own research to the government body overseeing their products (Mather 44). Mather supports this claim with her reference to the insight of Doug Gurian Sherman of the Union of Concerned Scientists, We don t have the whole picture. That s no accident. Scientists now believe that the current laws of physics allow us to travel though time. They believe that we can now travel back to see our founding fathers sign the declaration of independence. We could travel to 2999 to witness the birth of the next new millennium. Such travel would require a machine capable of withstanding great pressures and incredible amounts of speed. The act of actually traveling though timeis for the most part, agreed upon, but the implications of such travel is not so decided upon. Time for a stationary observer on earth and for an astronaut on a spaceship of high velocity is different. A person s heart beats to the rhythm of the realm it is in. One realm of time seems the same as any other to the person in the realms, but not to an observer outside that realm that can see the difference. As an example, astronauts traveling at 99% the speed of lightcould make a trip to the star Procyon that is 11.4 light years away in 23 earth years round trip (Hewitt 229). Because of time dilation, it would seem that only 3 years passed for the astronauts, there clocks would be 3 years older; they would be biologically only 3 years older (Hewitt 229). It would be the mission control people that would appear to be 23 years older. The question is why dose this happen. Let s say that we are in our hometown, looking at the grandfather clock that is in the center of town. The clock reads 12:00 noon. Light from the sun bounces off the face of the clock and hits our eyes. We then turn our head and the light misses us and travels off into space. In space, there is a space ship that is traveling at the speed of light. An astronaut looks out his passenger side window and sees the reflection of the clock. It reads 12:00 noon. As he continues to move at the speed of light, he keeps up with the reflected face of the clock. In the space ship time would pass as normal, but time in the universe would have seemed to stop. • 13. Essay on The Swastika in MAUS The Swastika in MAUS The image of the swastika pervades Arthur Spiegelman s graphic novel MAUS. In a work where so much of the Holocaust has been changed in some way after all, there are no humans in this version, only cats, mice, dogs, and pigs we must wonder why Spiegelman chooses to retain this well known emblem. To remove it entirely or replace it with another, invented symbolwould completely disorient the reader; but some might claim that this is the effect at which Spiegelman is aiming. I believe it is not. Rather, Spiegelman uses the swastika to subtly remind the reader that while the guise in which events are presented may be somewhat unfamiliar, the novel is still a narrative of the Holocaust. The swastika, it has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But these changes help to make it more stern, more authoritarian, more evil a testament to Spiegelman s ability to adapt this already emotionally loaded symbol. It is with the coming of the swastika that the graphic novel becomes dark . I mean this in two ways. First, the first chapter of the novel is rather light in its message, focusing on the beginning of the relationship between Vladek and Anja. The swastika first appears on the frontispiece to the second chapter, ironically titled The Honeymoon . After this point, the totalitarianism begins. The presence of the swastika is strongest at the first time Vladek sees it. He states, on first seeing it, It was the beginning of 1938 before the war hanging high in the center of town, it was a Nazi flag. Here was the first time I saw, with my own eyes, the swastika. On the next page, the swastika becomes detached from the flag and floats like an ominous moon on the horizon behind the scene of a pogrom. Spiegelman here is milking the emotive power of the swastika for all that it is worth. But perhaps the most interesting use of the swastika in MAUS is to be found towards the end of the book. Anja and Vladek are attempting to hide when they come to a crossroads, and the roads meet in the form of a swastika. Vladek tells Art: Anja and I didn t have where to go. • 14. `` My Dream `` By Brittany Maynard My dream is that every terminally ill American has access to the choice to die on their own terms with dignity. Please take an active role to make this a reality (qtd Brittany Maynard Fund ). Brittany Maynard Diaz, a 29 year old woman who was diagnosed with Glioblastoma and only given six months to live, turned her tragedy into a legacy when she chose to die with dignity. She became an advocate for the Compassion and Choices End of Life Consultation or EOLC program by sharing her story and decision with everyone in America in an effort to help give everyone in her situation the same options. She believed in dying with dignity for the same basic reasons that many others do; constitutionally speaking, it is within everyone s individual rights, it is an established medical practice used all over the world, and no one should be forced to suffer needlessly. After researching her diagnosed form of cancer and discussing her options with her family, any type of treatment given would only destroy the quality of life during the time she had left to live. What would you do? Imagine going to the doctor after numerous, severe headaches. The doctor performs a CT scan that reveals a rapidly growing brain tumor. The doctor breaks down the information, reveals that the tumor is a rare form of cancer, and is inoperable. Unfortunately, the doctor also relays the life expectancy with a cancer this rare and aggressive; a few months at best and those short months will become increasingly ... Governments and law enforcement agencies strive to stay ahead of offenders and ensure the safety of law enforcement professionals relying more and more on rapidly changing technology. In car camera systems, for example, are now valuable tools used to ensure and validate a high degree of officer professionalism (Schultz, 2016). But as criminal activities and technology changes, so does society s views on justice. Issues related to Constitutional protections and citizens privacy as well as how defendants and victims are treated have been debated for a long time in the U.S. ( 21st Century , n.d.). The theory of Forms argues that ideas (non physical forms) are more real than tangible objects or what our senses perceive. According to Plato, there is the visible realm and intelligible realm. Reality could be divided into three different levels; the level of appearances, the real level, and the ideal level which he explains through the analogy of the Divided Line in The Republic. By viewing reality in this bifurcated way, it is still philosophically useful to an extent as it provides different perspectives to worldly problems. It forces humans to critically evaluate their knowledge, along with ethical and practical considerations and practices When adopting this view, it should be done so with caution as there are still some flaws within this way of thinking. 2.Main Body An extension of the Sun simile where Plato attempts to explain goodness and the nature of reality and knowledge, the Divided Line extrapolates on the relationship between the two realities and their corresponding knowledge. Forecasting By Vector Autoregression Models CHAPTER NINE FORECASTING BY VECTOR AUTOREGRESSION MODELS 9.1 Vector Autoregressive (VAR) Models Vector Autoregression (VAR) models were introduced by the macro econometrician Christopher Sims (1980) to model the joint dynamics and causal relations among a set of macroeconomic variables. The vector autoregression (VAR) is commonly used for forecasting systems of interrelated time series and for analyzing the dynamic impact of random disturbances on the system of variables. The VAR approach sidesteps the need for structural modeling by treating every endogenous variable in the system as a function of the lagged values of all of the endogenous variables in the system. The vector autoregression (VAR) model is one of the most successful, flexible, and easy to use models for the analysis of multivariate time series. It is a natural extension of the univariate autoregressive model to dynamic multivariate time series. The VAR model has proven to be especially useful for describing the dynamic behavior of economic and financial time series and for forecasting. It often provides superior forecasts to those from univariate time series models and elaborate theory based simultaneous equations models. Forecasts from VAR models are quite flexible because they can be made conditional on the potential future paths of specified variables in the model. In addition to data description and forecasting, the VAR model is also used for structural inference and policy analysis. In structural ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some examples of PEDs are anabolic steroids, doping, and stimulants. All of these effect an athlete s performance in a different way, although their health is also at risk. Victor Conte, the founder and president of BALCO, a sports nutrition center in California, has been involved in several performance enhancing drug usage cases because of his company s involvement in the making of performance enhancing drugs. After the notable suspension of Giants star Melky Cabrera for having high levels of testosterone, Victor Conte said, As much as 50 percent of MLB players utilize performance enhancing drugs. (Kendrick, pars. 2) This was an especially startling claim considering that only one hundred thirteen players have been suspended for PED usage. There are approximately 1280 players in the MLB, and only 8.82% of MLB players have been suspended for PED usage. If Victor Conte s claim that 50% of MLB players use PEDs is correct there are 527 players using PEDs that have not yet been caught. Other drugs that are commonly used are stimulants. • 36. Critical Writing Review Of Hamlet Many people equate good critical writing with very descriptive writing when that is simply not true. Good critical writing should not just be an in depth description of a topic. Good critical writing should include a clear presentation of your argument and your own evidence, a clear and confident refusal to accept opposing conclusions from other critical writers, and a balanced presentation of reasons why the conclusions of other writers may be accepted but are ultimately not correct. Many people have written reviews about Kenneth Branagh s four hour uncut movie production of Hamlet, but I m going to evaluate just four reviews to determine their credibility of being a critical writing piece. Alan Stone has written a drawn out review of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition, Branagh did not add additional dialogue to indicate this scenario, but rather a silent cut scene. In the end, Stone declares that these criticisms are no more than quibbles about this glorious film (Stone). Alan Stone gives extensive background of Branagh s film, is clear about his opinion, provides lots of evidence, and includes and refutes opposing views. Berardinelli has written a piece that includes only his opinion with no critical reasoning or specific evidence. Berardinelli gives background information on Hamlet itself when talking about how legendary actors John Gielgud, Richard Burton, and Laurence Olivier have taken the lead role (Berardinelli). He also gives background to Branagh s connection with Hamlet and how it has been something of a private obsession for Kenneth Branagh since the age of eleven (Berardinelli). He then goes into a lengthy synopsis of Hamlet. Berardinelli is not at all on the fence about his opinion; he states his argument very clearly early on when he says I do not make lightly, this latest version is not only the best filmed adaption of Hamlet I have ever seen, but the best cinematic expression that I have come across of any of Shakespeare s plays (Berardinelli). Berardinelli adds evidence to support ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Eisenhower, the supreme commander of the Allied Forces during WWII and two term President, was concerned about the sudden growth and cost of the American defense system. As the United States faced two world wars in less than fifty years, the American government is obligated to create military weapons and equipment from an armament specialized industry, not from other industries. American makers of plowshares could, with time and as required, make swords as well. But now we can no longer risk emergency improvisation of national defense; we have been compelled to create a permanent armaments industry of vast proportions (Ravitch 537). With the government investing millions to billions of dollars in armament industries, these industries create and innovate various equipment, weapons, and technology for the military to employ in their duty defending the country from outside threats. As the fear of communism continued to spread across the country, the American government invested billions of dollars in wars against communist regimes. Furthermore, missile forces expanded even further. Some people may argue the American government exploited the Red Scare to enhance patriotism, national unity, and authority. However, there is no evidence to back up this claim since it is a conspiracy theory based on intuition. The Arms Race during the Cold Waris an example of the American government compelled to employ numerous weapons and technology to demonstrate the strength of their military. With the Soviets continuing to send satellites such as Sputnik and develop their own versions of the Atomic and Hydrogen bombs, the Americans employed initiatives such as the Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI) to counter the Soviet threats. The Arms Race continued until the Soviet Union disbanded in the early 90s and ruined the economy spending money on weapons and technology. In a sense, the Cold War prevented a WWIII since the Americans and Soviets spent billions of dollars on their national defense rather than initiating a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In terms of discord, Machiavelli presents the two main rivals, who are the nobles and the people. He sees the two different humors of the nobles and the people as the cause of discord. He observes that conflicts caused by the two diverse humors create salutary effects. His praise of tumults has inspired scholars not only to relate the notion of humors to the discussion of political freedom, but also to find the origin of the Modern Republicanism in his political philosophy.
