TheUttarPradeshgovernmenttodayexpressedconfidencethat119sugarmillswillcommencecanecrushingoperationsalmostontimenextmonthevenasprivatemillshavethreatednottostarttheirunits.ThestategovernmentexpectssomemillsinwesternUPtooperatefromNovember10andothersfromthethirdweek,UPCaneCommissionerSubhashChandsaidhere.Normally,sugarcanecrushingoperationsstartfrommid- NovemberinUP.Therewereapprehensionsthatcrushingmaygetdelayedduetosuspensionthreatgivenbytheprivatesugarmillsafewmonthsbackbecauseofthecanepriceissue.Theyhaddecidednottocommenceoperationsinthe2014-15year(October-September)tillthestategovernmentcomesoutwitharationalisedcanepriceformula."Millshaveassuredthattheywillstartoperations.SomecooperativeandprivateownedmillsinwesternUPwillstartcrushingoperationsfromNovember10,whileotherswillstartfactoriesfromthethirdweekofNovember,"Chandtoldreportersafterattendingameetingonsugarhere.
AsCottonpricesplungeinIndia,theCottonCorporationofIndia's(CCI)procurementoperationhasgainedmomentum.Asperreports,around17,000bales(170kgeach)ofcottonhasbeenprocuredbyCCI.TelanganaandAndhraPradeshaccountsforamajorshareofthesepurchases.TheGovernmenthaddeclaredasupportpriceof?4,050aquintalforthecurrentseasonthatbeganthismonth.ThegovernmenthadaskedCCItoprocureCottonattheminimumsupportprice(MSP)inTelangana,Karnataka,MaharashtraandOdisha.
Jeerafuturesareexpectedtoremainhigher.However,comfortablesuppliesmaycapsharpgains.JeeraNovembercontractdippedby0.74percentto11385atNCDEX.Theupsidegainsinjeerafuturesfuturesmayremaincappedasprofitbookingfromhigherlevelscannotberuledout.Atthespotmarkets,arrivalsaresteadyondailybasis.AreaunderjeerainGujaratwasreportedat455,000haasagainst335,200halastyearwhileabout390,000haweresowninRajasthan.Geo-politicaltensionsinSyriaandTurkeyhaveledtoasupplycrunchintheglobalmarketsraisingsupplyconcernsfromthetwomajorexportingcountries.ExportordersaredivertedtoIndia.ProductionisalsoexpectedtofallinSyriaandTurkeyduetocropfailure.ExportsofJeerabetweenApr-July2014stoodat58,000tn,up40%asagainst43,898tnbetweenApr-July2013.
Corianderfuturestradedwithanegativebiasduetosluggishdemandalongwithforecastofsubstantialincreaseinacreage.CorianderNovembercontractdipped1.12%onWednesdayatNCDEX.corianderpricesinthespotmarketroseonTuesdayonimproveddemandasmarketsresumedoperationsafteraoneweekholiday.SpotmarketsinRajasthanwereclosedonaccountofDiwali.CorianderpricesimprovedonTuesdayassupplydecreasedinproducingmarkets.EagleandBadamiqualitycorianderrosebyRs150-300perquintal.ScootervarietyofcorianderwasquotedatRs10,800-11,000perquintal.Thegovernment'sthirdadvanceestimatepeggedallIndiacorianderoutputat428000tonnesin2013-14(OctSep)asagainst524000tonneslastyear.ExportsofcorianderduringApril-July2014haveincreased40percentto16000tonnesfrom11412tonnesayearago,accordingtothedatabytheSpicesBoardofIndia.However,aspermarketsource,higherpriceandrobustexportsarelikelytoincreasetheacreageintherabiseason.
