SugarmillsinMaharashtraareyettocommenceproductionofrawsugarinthenewseason,withindustryexecutivesindicatingtheywouldstartproducingtheminimallyprocessedsweeteneronlyiftheCentreextendssubsidyonitsexports.In2013,millsinthestate,thenation'slargestsugarproducer,startedexportsofrawsugaratthebeginningofNovember,muchbeforethegovernmentannouncedasubsidy.Internationalrawsugarpriceshavefallenfromlastyear,whichismakingthemillerstotreadcautiouslythistime.BBThombre, chairmanandMDofNaturalSugarandAlliedIndustries(NSAI)andsecretaryoftheWesternIndiaSugarMillsAssociation(WISMA),saidproductionofbothrawandrefinedsugarhasnotstartedyet.NSAIexported10,000tonneofrawsugarlastyear."Producingrawsugarwillbeaffordableonlyifwegetthesubsidyforexports,"saidVSChavan,MDofKolhapurbasedWarnaCo-operativeSugarFactory.Accordingtomillers,exportershavenotcomeforwardtocontractforrawsugar.Some23mills,mostlybelongingtoleadingpoliticiansofthestate,startedcanecrushing,despitehavingnoclarityonsugarcaneprice. Castorseedpricesfellby2.35percentonWednesdayattheNationalCommodity&DerivativesExchangeLimited(NCDEX) asaresultoffreshsupplyofthecommodityinthemajormandiesaswellasstrongproductionestimates.AttheNCDEX,castorseedfuturesforNovember2014contractwastradingatRs.4,692perquintaltonnes,downby2.35percent,afteropeningatRs. 4,780againstthepreviousclosingpriceofRs.4,805.Ittouchedtheintra-daylowofRs.4,697tillthetrading.Castoroil,extractedfromcastorseedisthelargestvegetableoilexportedoutofIndia. Indiaisthebiggestexporterofcastoroilholdingabout70percentshareoftheinternationaltradeinthiscommodityfollowedbyChina&Brazil.
CorianderpricesgainedonWednesdayasaresultofthelimitedstocksonaccountofrestrictedarrivalsfromthemajorgrowingbelts.CorianderNovembercontractrose1.5%to12063levelsonWednesdayatIndia'sNationalCommodity&DerivativesExchangeLimited(NCDEX).Thegovernment'sthirdadvanceestimatepeggedallIndiacorianderoutputat428000tonnesin2013-14(Oct-Sep)asagainst524000tonneslastyear.ExportsofcorianderduringApril-July2014haveincreased40percentto16000tonnesfrom11412tonnesayearago,accordingtothedatabytheSpicesBoardofIndia.However,aspermarketsource,higherpriceandrobustexportsarelikelytoincreasetheacreageintherabiseason.CorianderiscommoninSouthAsian, MiddleEastern,CentralAsian,Mediterranean,Indian,Tex-Mex, LatinAmerican,Portuguese,Chinese,African,andScandinaviancuisine.
