TheCottonCorporationofIndia(CCI)willprocurecottonfromfarmersin11producingstatesastherateshavefallenbelowtheminimumsupportprice(MSP)inAndhraPradesh, TelanganaandMaharashtra,Parliamentwasinformedtoday."Duringthecurrentcottonseason2014-15,pricesofcottonarebelowMSPinthestatesofAndhraPradesh, TelanganaandMaharashtra,"MinisterofStateforAgricultureMohanbhaiKundariasaidinawrittenreplytotheLokSabha.CCIhasinitiatedactionforprocurementofcottonfromgrowersatMSPin341centreslocatedin92districtsin11cottongrowingstates,headded.CCIisthegovernment'snodalagencytoprocurecottonattheMSP,whichiscurrentlyRs4,050/quintalforlongstaple.Theministernotedthatdomesticcottonpricesdependonanumberoffactorsincludingpreviousbalance,currentsupply,aswellasfuturedemandinbothdomesticandinternationalmarkets.
Guarseedandguargumhavewitnessedsomerecoverytodayduetorecoveryinglobalcrudeoilpricesmadesomespeculativedemandinguargum.Overalldemandhasbeenpoorinbothcommoditiesinlastfewdays.Thearrivalsinmajormandiesarehoveringaround1-1.25lakhbangs.Overallscenarioremainslaxafterasteadytrendwaswitnessedinthecommodityafterthemassivearrayoflossesinthelastfewdays.Notmuchofanupsideisseeninthecommodityamidlackofexportdemandforguarmeal.Apersistentdrophasbeenseeninworldcrudeoilmarkets.WTIcrudeoilslumpedunder$68perbarrellastnightasacloselywatchedmeetingoftheOrganizationofthePetroleumExportingCountries(OPEC)saiditwouldmaintaintheproductionlevelof30millionbarrelsperday.
Mustardseedpricesaretradinghigherinlocalmandiesduetolimitedsuppliesinlocalmandies.Thestrengthininternationaloilpackwillalsoaddsomebuyinginmustardseedmarket.Thedemandisalsolikelytoaccelerateduringwinterperiod.Tradersexpectingthatmealpricesarestillstronginlocalmandies.
Turmericpriceshavereportedsomeweaknesstodayduetoweakdemandbystockiestandexporters.Tradersstatedthatweakproductionestimatesandrecedingstocksinlocalmandiestosupportpricesinthenearterm.Thetotalturmericproductionisestimatedataround45-47lakhtonnesinthecurrentyear.
Localsugarpricesarebeinghitfromlackofdemandinreadymarkets.Oldstocksareunlikelytoseeanybuyingandthoughthemillersaretryingtosellthenewstocksatanelevatedlevel,notmuchofanupsideispossible.

Around4000farmersgatheredatRajkotdistrictofGujaratandheldarallyinordertoputforwardtheirdemandbeforethegovernmenttoraisetheMSPof CottonandGroundnut.BhartiyaKisanSangh(BKS),anassociationoffarmersofSaurashtraandnearbyregion,isdemandingRs.1000per20kgasMSPofcottonwhichiscurrentlyRs.810.Theyalsodemandedtheincentiveforcottonexportsandrestrictiveimportpolicyforcottonimports.HeatedconversationtookplaceinRajyaSabhayesterdayoverthedrasticallyfallingcottonandPaddyprices.Theoppositionpartiesi.e.CongressandSamajwadiParty(S.P.)putforwardtheissueoffallingpriceswhichhasledthefarmer'sdistressandtheriseinthesuicidefigures.ItalsoclaimedthatnoinstructiontoCottonCorporationofIndia(CCI)hasmadetopurchasecottonattherightprice,asitwasintheperiodofUPAgovernment.TheoppositionpartyalsoremindedthepromiseofPrimeMinisterNarendraModiofpayingfarmersapricethatis50%morethanthecostofproduction,isnotbeingfulfilledasMSPofcottonisRs.3750perquintalformediumstapleandRs.4050forlongstaple.AccordingtoU.S.DepartmentofAgriculture(USDA),cottonimportsbyThailandarelikelytofallin2014/15followingthedeficitincottonconsumptionbytextilecounterparts.YarnspinnersandfabricweaversinThailandarefacingtheproblemofhigherproductioncostandweakglobaleconomy.Thedrasticfallincottonpricestoafiveyearlowcouldforcethefarmersworldwidetoswitchfortheothercrops,accordingtoInternationalCottonAdvisoryCommittee(ICAC).CottonatICEforMarch2015delivery
hastouchedthelevelof58.53centsperpoundinlateNovember,whichislowestsinceSeptember2009.ThesluggishdemandfromtheChinacouldlimittheworldcottontradeto7.9milliontonnes,11%lowerthisseason2014-15,saidInternationalCottonAdvisoryCommittee(ICAC).
