Riceprocurementbygovernmentagenciescontinuestolagat10.35milliontonnes(MT)inthemarketingyear2014-15sofarasagainst10.9MTinthecorrespondingperiodlastyear.TheFoodCorporationofIndia(FCI)andstateagenciesundertakeprocurementofriceandwheattoensurethatfarmersgetaminimumsupportprice(MSP)."RiceprocurementasonNovember24isslightlylowerthanyearago.ProcurementinPunjabandHaryanaisnearingend. OtherstateslikeTelangan.

CottonCorporationofIndia(CCI)hasplannedtoprocuresixtylakhbalesofcottonthisseason(Oct'14-Sept'15)withtheoutlayofRs.12000crores.Around8lakhbalesofcottonhavebeenprocuredbyCCIinAndhraPradeshandTelanganasofar.CCIhastiedupwiththeconsortiumof14banks,ledbyBankofBarodainordertocarryouttheprocurementrelatedtransactions.TheshareofIndiaisgettingwiderinapparelexporttoUSA.OnthelesserpricecompetitivenessofChinaandBangladesh,IndiahasnurtureditsmarketshareinapparelexportstoUSA.Indiaexported745millionsquaremetersequivalent(msme)toUSA,duringJanuarytoSeptemberthisyear,7.5%higherwhencomparedtothecorrespondingperiodlastyear.TheGovernmentofIndiahasgiventheapprovalforRs.653crorestothestategovernmentofMaharashtratorescuethedroughthitfarmersinthestateandtohandletheotherlossesoccurred.Around19,069villagesoutof39,134havebeenhitbadlyduetodrought..
