FoodMinisterRamVilasPaswanmetFinanceMinisterArunJaitleyhereanddiscussedtheissueofraisingimportdutyoncrudeandrefinededibleoilstorestrictcheapimportsandprotectdomesticfarmers,amongothermatters.ProblemsfacedbysugarmillsinavailingofloanssanctionedthroughtheSugarDevelopmentFund(SDF)andtheissueofadditionalbudgetallocationforFCIwerealsodiscussed."Theproposalonincreasingimportdutyonedibleoils,additionalbudgetforFCIandloanissueunderSDF,amongothers,wereontheagendaofthemeeting,"PaswantoldPTI.TheFoodMinistryfavoursincreasingtheimportdutyoncrudeandrefinededibleoilsfromexisting2.5percentand10percent,respectively,hesaid.IndustrybodySolventExtractorsAssociation(SEA)hasbeendemandingadutyhikeincrudeedibleoilsto10percentandonrefinededibleoilsto25percentaslocalpriceshavefallentohistoricallowsduetocheaperimportsfromMalaysiaandIndonesia.Onsugarsectorissues,PaswanbriefedtheFinanceMinisteraboutthecurrentimpassebetweentheUPsugarmillsandthestategovernmentovercanepricepolicy, sourcessaid.Privatesugarmillsinthestatehavethreatenedtosuspendoperationsinthecurrentseasonbeginningthismonth.
PaswanalsodiscussedaboutrelaxingcertainnormssothatsugarmillscanavailofloanseasilyfromSDF,sourcessaid, addingthathealsosoughtadditionalbudgetallocationforstate-runFoodCorporationofIndia(FCI)forgivingfoodsubsidiesthisfiscal.AbudgetallocationofRs92,000crorehasbeenmadeagainsttherequirementofRs1,47,700croreforthisfiscal.
India'ssugarstockshavedeclinedby25percentto6.92milliontonnesatthebeginningofthenewmarketingyearthatstartedthismonthduetoloweroutputandhigherexportslastyear.Sugarstocksstoodat9.3milliontonnes(MT)asonOctober12013.ThemarketingyearrunsfromOctober- September.Althoughthestocksofsweetenerhavereduced,theyarestillnearly2MThigherthanwhatisrequiredformeetingthedomesticdemandtillproductionfromnewcrushingseasoncomesintothemarket.Accordingtogovernmentestimatessugarstocksstoodat6.92MTasonOctober1,2014,sourcessaid.ThisislowerthantheIndianSugarMillsAssociation(ISMA)projectionof7.4MTofopeningstockatthestartofthismonth.ThestockshavecomedownsignificantlyassugaroutputofIndia, theworld'ssecondlargestproducer,fellto24.3MTin2013-14marketingyearfrom25.1MTinthepreviousyear.
AndhraPradeshChiefMinisterNChandrababuNaidudirectedofficialstoevolvewaystomakethestateamajorproducerofcoffee.NaiduheldareviewoncoffeeproductioninVisakhapatnamregionwithformerCoffeeBoardChairmanKrishnaRaoandofficialshere.TheChiefMinisterwasinformedthatdespitefavourableclimaticconditionsintheregion, backwardnessandnon-usageofmoderntechnologiesledtoadeclineincoffeeproduction,accordingtoanofficialrelease.Ofthe58,000hectaresofcoffeecultivatedinAndhraPradesh'sagencyareas,55,000hectaresarebeingcultivatedbytribalsalone.TheChiefMinistersaidthisshouldbeincreasedtoonelakhhectares.
Limitedstockiestsellinginlocalmandiescoupledwithpossibilityofweaksowinginthecurrentyearwillprovidesomesupporttojeerapricesatlowerlevels.TheNCDEXfuturesarelikelytotest11090-11100levelsinthenearterm.Aspermarketsources,recedingsuppliesofjeerainbothdomesticandinternationalmarketwillencouragestockiestbuyingfromlowerlevels.TradersstatedthatweakarrivalshavebeenreportedininternationalmarketduetolimitedsuppliesfromSyriaandTurkey.ThiswillsupportthedomesticjeerapricesintheneartermasinternationalbuyerswillroutetowardsIndianmarketfortheirseasonaldemand.
