Ecological
change
By Definition of Development
Development is a process that creates
growth, progress, positive change or the
addition of physical, economic,
environmental, social and demographic
components.
Sustainable Development
• The term ā€œsustainable developmentā€ first came to
prominence in the world Conservation Strategy
(WCS) in 1980.
• the United Nations Conference on Environment and
Development (UNCED) held in Rio de Jenerio in June
1992.
• Generally Development is the gradual growth of a
situation that becomes more advanced and strong
than previous one.
Continue
•Development is intended to bring a positive
change for human being and its surroundings.
Development may take place by bringing about a
change in policy, projects and legislation.
•Development is a unfolding of human potentials
for meaningful participation in economic, social,
political and cultural process and institutions, so
that people can improve their conditions.
Concept of Sustainable Development
• Gro Harlem Brundtland first introduced the concept
of sustainable development in 1987. He was then the
Prime Minister of Norway and chairman of the World
Commission on Environment and Development.
United Nations Views on Sustain
• The UN established the Commission on Sustainable
Development (CSD) in December 1992 to ensure an
effective follow-up of UNCED and to monitor and
report on the implementation of the Earth Summit
agreements at the local, national, regional, and
international levels
Special Session of the General Assembly,
•Held ion June 1997, adopted a
comprehensive programed for further
implementation of Agenda 21 as well as the
work programed of the CSD for 1997- 2002.
What was major Aim to
achieve this?
• There were two Major Aims of Sustains
• Maximizing the probability of achieving
sustainable development.
• Minimizing the chances of environmental
degradation.
Goal of sustainable development
To use natural resources and
energy in such a way that it
remains conserve for the
future generations, is called
Sustainable Development.
End poverty in all its
forms.
Zero Hunger.
Health.
Education.
Gender equality and
women's empowerment.
Water and Sanitation.
WHAT ARE ENVIRONMENTAL CHANGES?
• Environmental change is a change or disturbance of the environment most
often caused by human influences and natural ecological processes.
• Environmental changes include various factors, such as natural disasters, human
interferences or activities, or animal interaction.
• Examples Natural disasters, Human interferences, animal interaction.
• Earthquake and Tsunami
• overpopulation, pollution, burning fossil fuels, and deforestation.
• Plants and animals benefit each other as members of food chains and
ecosystems.
Concept of Environment
• The concept of ā€œenvironmentā€ has evolved/developed
since it started to become a global issue in the early
1970s.
• The Earth’s ecosystems are in fact fragile, and that
human beings have been contributing much to its
degeneration. The social and economic welfare of
human beings is closely linked to their environment.
CAUSES OF ENVIRONMENTAL CHANGES
Environmental changes occur in a number of
ways like-
Pollution
Deforestation
Volcanic Eruption
Global Warming
CONCEPT OF DEVELOPMENT AND
ENVIRONMENT
The 'environment' is where we live, and development is what
we all do in attempting to improve our lot within that abode.
The two are inseparable.
• Environmental crises not only involve social, political &
economic aspects but also pose a philosophical problem.
• Development is the process of furthering people’s well-being.
•
What are the impact of development on the
environment?
•According to National Survey 2017
•The environmental impact of economic
growth includes the increased consumption
of non-renewable resources, higher levels of
pollution, global warming and the potential
loss of environmental habitats
The environment is central to all four
of these requirements.
social and natural. Natural assets, including water, soils, plants and
animals, underpin the livelihoods of all people.
human,
material,
financial,
Long-term development can only be achieved through sustainable
management of various assets:
DEVELOPMENTAL SECTOR’S
Sectors such as agriculture, fishery,
forestry, tourism and minerals provide
important economic and social benefits to
people.
Conclusion
Our natural environment makes human life possible, and our
cultural environment helps define who we are. It is therefore
essential that our population and economic growth are
environmentally sustainable.
Sustainable development encourages us to conserve and enhance
our resource base, by gradually changing the ways in which we
develop and use technologies. Countries must be allowed to meet
their basic needs of employment, food, energy, water and
sanitation.
