ENVIRONMENTAL CONCERNS AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT - WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE T...vijay kumar sarabu
There is direct relationship between environment and economic development. Economic development without environmental considerations can cause serious environmental damage in turn impairing the quality of life of present and future generations. In the process of economic development, the environmental problems have been ignored or less concentrated. Any country’s environmental problems are related to the level of its economic development, the availability of natural resources and the lifestyle of its population. In India, rapid growth of population, poverty, urbanization, industrialization and several related factors are responsible for the rapid degradation of the environment. Environmental problems have become serious in many parts of the country, and hence cannot be ignored. The main environmental problems in India relate to air and water pollution particularly in metropolitan cities and industrial zones, degradation of common property resources (Tanks, Ponds Lakes, Rivers, Forests etc.) which affect the poor adversely as they depends on them for their livelihood, threat to biodiversity and inadequate system of solid waste disposal and sanitation with consequent adverse impact on health, infant mortality and birth rate.

As part of the Paris Climate Agreement goal of limiting global warming to 2oC, annual emissions reductions from agriculture must reach 1 gigatonne of carbon dioxide equivalent (GtCO2e/yr) by 2030. Plausible options to do this only deliver 21–40% of this target. Agricultural systems are witnessing ambitious goals and require transformative actions. Across food systems actions include: application of next generation technologies, increasing investment flows and improving returns, change in pattern of landholdings, enhancing capacities through skill development and capacity building, and via changes in the distribution and dynamics of the population and labour force. This transformation would generate multitude of benefits such as education, nutrition, health, water, sanitation, and empowerment of women and youth, and transforming rural livelihoods and indigenous communities.

Declaration on Rio+20: 63 Environmental Laureates from 37 countries ask governments in Rio+20 to be pioneers and and social innovators.
Progressive companies around the world are developing products and services that will revolutionise industries and deliver transformative change for society and our planet. These solutions are driving new business growth while significantly reducing emissions towards a low-carbon, sustainable future for all.
Accelerating and scaling up implementation across sectors and borders, however, will require a higher level of collaboration than we have ever seen before, between business, government, and NGOs. The Business for the Environment (B4E) COP17 Dialogue aims to facilitate this, bringing stakeholders together to forge new partnerships and take real action on climate change. Leading the way and powering ahead for a clean industrial revolution.

Diabetes is a rapidly and serious health problem in Pakistan. This chronic condition is associated with serious long-term complications, including higher risk of heart disease and stroke. Aggressive treatment of hypertension and hyperlipideamia can result in a substantial reduction in cardiovascular events in patients with diabetes 1. Consequently pharmacist-led diabetes cardiovascular risk (DCVR) clinics have been established in both primary and secondary care sites in NHS Lothian during the past five years. An audit of the pharmaceutical care delivery at the clinics was conducted in order to evaluate practice and to standardize the pharmacists’ documentation of outcomes. Pharmaceutical care issues (PCI) and patient details were collected both prospectively and retrospectively from three DCVR clinics. The PCI`s were categorized according to a triangularised system consisting of multiple categories. These were ‘checks’, ‘changes’ (‘change in drug therapy process’ and ‘change in drug therapy’), ‘drug therapy problems’ and ‘quality assurance descriptors’ (‘timer perspective’ and ‘degree of change’). A verified medication assessment tool (MAT) for patients with chronic cardiovascular disease was applied to the patients from one of the clinics. The tool was used to quantify PCI`s and pharmacist actions that were centered on implementing or enforcing clinical guideline standards. A database was developed to be used as an assessment tool and to standardize the documentation of achievement of outcomes. Feedback on the audit of the pharmaceutical care delivery and the database was received from the DCVR clinic pharmacist at a focus group meeting.

UNDERSTANDING WHAT GREEN WASHING IS!.pdfJulietMogola
Many companies today use green washing to lure the public into thinking they are conserving the environment but in real sense they are doing more harm. There have been such several cases from very big companies here in Kenya and also globally. This ranges from various sectors from manufacturing and goes to consumer products. Educating people on greenwashing will enable people to make better choices based on their analysis and not on what they see on marketing sites.
Characterization and the Kinetics of drying at the drying oven and with micro...Open Access Research Paper
The objective of this work is to contribute to valorization de Nephelium lappaceum by the characterization of kinetics of drying of seeds of Nephelium lappaceum. The seeds were dehydrated until a constant mass respectively in a drying oven and a microwawe oven. The temperatures and the powers of drying are respectively: 50, 60 and 70°C and 140, 280 and 420 W. The results show that the curves of drying of seeds of Nephelium lappaceum do not present a phase of constant kinetics. The coefficients of diffusion vary between 2.09.10-8 to 2.98. 10-8m-2/s in the interval of 50°C at 70°C and between 4.83×10-07 at 9.04×10-07 m-8/s for the powers going of 140 W with 420 W the relation between Arrhenius and a value of energy of activation of 16.49 kJ. mol-1 expressed the effect of the temperature on effective diffusivity.

ENVIRONMENTAL
SUSTAINABILITY
2. The practice of environmental sustainability helps to ensure that the needs of
today's population are met without jeopardizing the ability of future
generations to meet their needs.
Environmental sustainability is defined as responsible interaction with the
environment to avoid depletion or degradation of natural resources and allow
for long-term environmental quality.
Our environmental policy aims to minimize the production of waste; to
eliminate where possible the use of potentially harmful chemicals, and to
minimize them where they are unavoidable; and always to assess the
environmental impact of our procedures in advance.
INTRODUCTION
3. Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)
to eradicate extreme poverty and
hunger;
to achieve universal primary
education;
to promote gender equality and
empower women;
to reduce child mortality;
to improve maternal health;
to combat HIV/AIDS, malaria,
and other diseases;
to ensure environmental
sustainability; and
to develop a global partnership
for development.
4. India is a signatory to the Millennium Declaration adopted at the United
Nations General Assembly in September 2000, and has consistently
reaffirmed its commitment towards the eight development goals.
6. AFFORDABLE AND CLEAN ENERGY
Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern
energy for all
Energy is central to nearly every major challenge and opportunity
the world faces today. Be it for jobs, security, climate change,
food production or increasing incomes, access to energy for all is
essential.
Sustainable energy is opportunity – it transforms lives, economies
and the planet.
All initiative to ensure universal access to modern energy
services, improve efficiency and increase use of renewable
sources
7. NO POVERTY
The sustainable development goal fund support initiatives that
tackle poverty from a multispectral perspective and address the
following dimensions-
Create opportunities for good and decent jobs and secure
livelihoods.
Support inclusive and sustainable business practices.
Promote better govt. policies and fair and accountable public
institutional.
8. CLIMATE ACTION
Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts.
It is disrupting national economies and affecting lives, costing
people, communities and countries.
People are experiencing the significant impacts of climate
change, which include changing weather patterns, rising sea
level, and more extreme weather events.
Affordable, scalable solutions are now available.
To address climate change, countries adopted the Paris
Agreement.
9. ZERO HUNGER
Underlying the food and nutrition situation are multiple challenges
in achieving sustainable food production. A rapidly growing
population is increasing the demand for food.
The sustainable development goals fund programmes apply a multi
sectoral approach and include the following key dimensions.
Promotion of integrated approaches for alleviating child hunger
and under nutrition.
Promotion of sustainable and resilient livelihoods for vulnerable
households.
Strengthening of capacities to generate information allowing for
improved policy making & advocacy.
10. PARIS AGREEMENT
To strengthen the global response to climate change by creating an international
network of government bodies, all dedicated to lowering emissions. Syria and
Nicaragua were the only countries who did not join the Agreement.
Goal of keeping the increase in global average temperature to well below 2°C above
pre-industrial levels, ideally aiming to limit the increase to 1.5°C. This change would
put massive strain on food production, clean water sources and energy production.
What happens next? It was designed not to spook the world's biggest polluters away
from the table and to open a dialogue between nations on an international issue. And a
step towards a unified front against climate change.
If everyone abides by the Paris Agreement, what could it achieve? hopes of
reducing their overall emissions to a long-term goal of zero-net emissions overall -
carbon neutrality.
How is it being enforced? World's worst polluters would be financially accountable
for their chemical contribution to climate change. The greater the polluter, the higher
the cost - the typical rate set at $150 per tone of CO2.
What have been the results of the agreement to date? 5 years ago India, one of the
countries to sign the Paris Agreement, had an economy largely driven by coal. It has
now made significant steps towards adopting solar energy and recently scrapped 13.7
GW of planned coal power projects.
The Paris Agreement was an assurance of these changes - a way to hold countries
accountable for future generations and the needs of a changing world. While no
financial claims could be made by countries against one another for the effects of
climate change, it held the greatest polluters to a new standard.

CASE STUDIES
12. ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY
AND BUSINESS
Businesses focus on “going green,” they enforce sustainability on
their organization to reduce energy use, costs, waste, and other
environmental factors.
Many consumers and stakeholders increasingly expect to see
sustainability initiatives; as such, sustainability has become a new
part of the strategic, tactical and operational environment of many
businesses.
For instance, one national chain of convenience stores started
tracking green analytics data to optimize transportation routes to and
from its distribution centers; to maximize fuel efficiency.
All in all, the importance of environmental sustainability to the
business sector is doing well by doing good.
