1. Entry level jobs (Presenter)

2. One way to get a foot in the industry is becoming a TV or radio Runner. This job acts
as a general assistant for the producer and other production staff. This job will
provide vital experience and knowledge of the production process. This job provides
networking experience as well as it being seen as the first step on the ladder. I began
researching TV presenters who started as a runner and found a story about a man
called Ben Sheppard (ITV Good Morning Britain co-presenter). He started as a runner
and after lots of hard work and dedication he progressed up the ladder becoming a
presenter on the Good Morning Britain Panel. This process is definitely something I
would do to become a presenter as when employed as a runner you’re given lots of
roles and responsibilities. This job is seen as the perfect entry level job as you get
insight into all department areas so you can see first hand what you would and
would not like.

3. Another entry level job to get into the industry is shadowing a professional. To get
this role is challenging as they are rarely advertised so it’s up to you to get the role.
One way I would get this opportunity is by messaging and emailing radio and TV
presenters asking them them if you could shadow. With this email I would include a
CV and cover letter to increase my chances. I would expect to receive lots of
knowledge and experience as I would ask relevant questions about how and why
certain things are done in that way. Shadowing rarely consists of carrying out tasks
although it can happen depending on the employer. This would be a really good
opportunity as I would find out whether it’s really for me or not.

4. Initial thought
To get into radio and TV presenting its slightly different to other jobs. Although I
could go down the university route and get a degree in journalism I want to explore
other avenues first. I’ve previously looked into avenues for presenters I knew
shadowing and running are great entry level jobs so I began to look further into
them.
After researching both entry level jobs I decided if I want to pursue a career in
presenting I will get a runner's job. This will be either on a TV or radio set,
alongside shadowing industry professionals to gain first hand experience This will
also help me decide if this is the path I want to go down or if its in another area in
the related field.

an established workplace. As stated in my
previous slide this job is what Ben
Sheppard started doing who is now
currently a presenter on Good Morning
Britain. I feel I have the skills to be
successful at this job and progress into
other departments.

8. This is another example of an entry level
job into the TV industry. It doesn't state the
job description here, I assume you get that
in the second phase of the application. I
presume it's similar to the ITV production
runner job which includes booking travel,
general admissions and float
management.

9. The last entry level job is a studio runner. The
job varies depending on department, ultimately
they are looking for someone who is creative
and on the go which I'm happy doing.
