2. Initial thought
A cover letter is very important for an actor, when sending a showreel
a cover letter is crucial. A cover letter can be very difficult to get right,
it needs to be specific to each individual agent or casting director and
brief as agents dont have much time to look at each email. I want to
make a basic cover letter then edit it for each individual person. To
make my cover letter the best I need to research and look at examples
of successful cover letters to gain inspiration.
3. Cover letter examples
The first type of research I conducted was googling the perfect cover
letter for an actor. I came across a few examples of successful cover
letters. One that stood out was on the website acting blog, because it
gets straight to the point as well as including important information
such as previous work, interesting skills that make an actor stand out
and they have shown knowledge of the casting director’s previous work.
I would take these tips and apply them to my own letter. I wouldn’t
change anything to this letter other than making it relevant to my own
experiences.

4. Cover letter tips
I researched tips on what to include and the tips I will definitely use are
these:
● Keep it short but precise
● Include relevant information about previous experience
● Show you have researched the casting director
● Use personality in writing
● Don’t mention anything about a follow up email
● Include relevant information for them to contact you

5. Another type of research I conducted was on Youtube, I searched for
cover letter advice and learnt:
● Not showing your personality is a huge mistake
● Make sure to address the individual person or agent not just
everyone
● Don’t make it too long it’s not a resume in paragraph form
● Always talk about yourself
● Do your research on who you are contacting
● Be clear with what your asking for

6. Advice I disregarded
● Write a follow up message to make sure they received your email.
● Talk about them loads not just yourself.
● It’s a good idea to email everyone at the agency so they can all see
you.
● Include lots of information even if it makes a long cover letter.
● You can be informal to show your personality.

This is a professional way to write a covering letter
to a casting director or agent. They have highlighted
their attributes, allowing the recipient to clearly see
their strengths.
