            Social media is all the rage. Consumer adoption of social media as a means to reconnect, communicate,
            and share content has been so massive that there are now over 1B people on all the collective social

            networks. We could easily see a doubling of that number based on current adoption rates of newer

            What’s less clear is how many companies have adapted to the growth of social media by launching some                     network analysis Techcrunch   Technology                      Twitter

            sort of corporate initiative. Even less clear is how many of those initiatives are in non-mission critical “edge”        workflow
            functions vs. “core” business functions. At Buzzient, our belief is that we’re at the beginning of a phase of
            “core” adoption of social media by enterprise users.

            Take a look at enterprise social media implementations. How many of them are in marketing, marketing

            Like many new technologies, the early action with social media is at the edge of the corporation not in the
            core. This is because the edge is low risk, easy to write off environment. As the new technology migrates
            to the core, and the essential functions of the enterprise, the stakes get higher. A false start or a bad

            technology decision can come back to haunt you years later.


            In order for a new technology such as social media to make sense to the enterprise core, there needs to be
            a plan for integration with existing systems. When one looks at social media, the vast majority of products
            assume that the enterprise user will adopt the new technology as an additional application in the corporate
            menu. In fact, in order to stimulate adoption and increase the bottom line benefits, new technologies such
            as social media need to integrated WITH existing applications and business processes.


            In the journey from the edge to the core, an open architecture and approach that supports easy integration
            dramatically increases the chances of success in that technology’s adoption. Users of social media would
            be advised to think carefully about their strategies for integration of social media with the enterprise core.

Consumer adoption of social media as a means to reconnect, communicate, and share content has been so massive that there are now over 1B people on all the collective social Social Media Analytics networks. We could easily see a doubling of that number based on current adoption rates of newer social media integration Social Media Management networks (Pinterest, anyone?). Social Media Marketing Social Media Publishing social media reach Social Media Tools social What’s less clear is how many companies have adapted to the growth of social media by launching some network analysis Techcrunch Technology Twitter sort of corporate initiative. Even less clear is how many of those initiatives are in non-mission critical “edge” workflow functions vs. “core” business functions. At Buzzient, our belief is that we’re at the beginning of a phase of “core” adoption of social media by enterprise users. Social CRM and the Enterprise Take a look at enterprise social media implementations. How many of them are in customer service, supply chain/ERP, or a “core” function? This is because the edge is low risk, easy to write off environment. As the new technology migrates to the core, and the essential functions of the enterprise, the stakes get higher. In order for a new technology such as social media to make sense to the enterprise core, there needs to be a plan for integration with existing systems. When one looks at social media, the vast majority of products assume that the enterprise user will adopt the new technology as an additional application in the corporate menu. In fact, in order to stimulate adoption and increase the bottom line benefits, new technologies such as social media need to integrated WITH existing applications and business processes. In the journey from the edge to the core, an open architecture and approach that supports easy integration dramatically increases the chances of success in that technology’s adoption.
