SHAREPOINT
PROGRAM
To support collaboration across the company,
the Enterprise SharePoint Program is
responsible for standards and best practices,
as well as to help departments implement
their sites.
The SharePoint program team will help
understand individual needs and implement
the best solution with minimal effort. To do
so, please consider the following concepts.
SHAREPOINT
OVERVIEW &
PURPOSE
SharePoint is a web-based collaborative
platform that is part of the M365 package. It
is often emphasized as a document
management and storage system.
SharePoint allows you to manage all
corporate content, create websites and
company intranets, create business processes
to automate tasks, and build customized
apps that can help teams become more
productive.

4. MS-TEAMS

PURPOSE
MS-Teams is a business communication platform
that is part of the M365. It offers high-quality video
conferencing with recording options, phone calls, text
chat, group messaging. MS-Teams is integrated with
SharePoint supporting document and library

When a MS-Team is created, it automatically creates
the following resources: a M365 group, a
SharePoint Site with document library, a mailbox
and calendar, a OneNote notebook and finally ties
into other M365 apps such as Planner and Power BI
(analytics).
MS-OFFICE
OVERVIEW &
PURPOSE
MS-Office is an office related applications where
each application serves a unique purpose:
Word creates documents. PowerPoint creates
presentations. Excel creates worksheets. Outlook
manages email and calendar. OneDrive stores

amounts of data.
Teams are also part of the Office bundle.

5. Project: An initiative with beginning and
end. Once the initiative is complete the
collaboration piece is no longer needed.
The content can be achieved. For example:
Creating a new course.
Operations: It is used for day-to-day
activities. It will involve permanent files and
conversations. For example, once the
course is created, the document goes
through an approval process to be used
and managed within an operations
environment.
PROJECTS VS.
OPERATIONS
Collaboration: Collaboration sites are
primarily used for Collaboration. i.e., where
members of a work group or project can work
together on project deliverables, plan events,
track, or exchange ideas. Collaboration Sites is
where work happens. In team sites, members
have the same access.
Communication: Communication sites are
primarily used for sharing content for viewing
only. E.g., when you want to broadcast a
message, tell a story, or display services.
Communication Sites is where the result of the
work is shared with a wider audience. In
Communication Sites, content is intended for
the broader Langara community.
COLLABORATION VS.
COMMUNICATION
SITES
SOLUTIONS
A couple of considerations when choosing
a solution to your needs. First find what
type of content you will store in your
SharePoint and second how the content
will be used.

Once you have the previous questions sorted out,
you can open a ticket request to IT.
If you already open a ticket, a meeting will be setup
to review your responses to the questions initiating
the design and implementation steps.
