Enterprise resource planning (ERP) is a software solution that integrates all functions and departments of a company. It takes a process-oriented view to help a company meet its goals. Implementing an ERP system involves several steps - project planning, gap analysis, business process reengineering, configuration, training project teams and end users, testing, going live, and post-implementation support. ERP implementation can take 12-18 months and 1-3 years for full transformation. It allows for on-time delivery, increased flexibility, reduced costs and lead times, improved resource utilization and customer satisfaction. However, ERP implementation has high costs and requires extensive training.
