ERP Implementation – Steps
• Step 1 – Culture, Communication and Budget
▫ ERP System implementation impacts all functions and
transactions. There needs to be organizational level
commitment. Budget needs to be for ERP Software,
Implementation Cost (external and internal) and
Infrastructure. Plan for ongoing licensing and operating
costs.
• Step 2 – Select Appropriate ERP software
▫ Onsite or Cloud, Software fit with other systems in
company (Database, Operating System), In House
Expertise, Industry fit and customer references
• Step 3 – Plan the implementation and Go Live
▫ Select a implementation partner or go it alone.
▫ What modules to implement and in what order

ERP Implementation – Steps
• Step 7 – Customization and Reporting
▫ Generally customization should be avoided and business
processes need to be changed. This will keep software lifecycle
costs low. Use standard reporting as much as possible, unless
easy configuration/development is possible.
• Step 8 – Training and User Setups
▫ Train the users in Software Operation
▫ Setup user accounts and security
• Step 9 – Data Migration and Environment Preparation
▫ Plan historical data strategy.
▫ Move data from existing system for current fiscal year to ERP
format. May need Data Conversion.
• Step 10 – Go Live
▫ Get additional help for launch and initial support
▫ Plan periodic assessments.
